The weekend is here, and whilst I am still fighting off germs, we're busy gearing up for the racing to start. This is the last weekend before everything kicks off in Bahrain, so I hope you're making the most of it! Here are some of the things we're talking about, in a super duper extended daily:

  • A quick plug before we get into the motorsport stuff, I quickly posted a new episode of Media Future Change last night. It had been delayed a few days because of voice issues but finally made it into the public domain. Hope you enjoy listening, and as ever, feedback is always appreciated.
  • I finally got round to updating the about page on I Heart Franck to feature more information about who I am, obviously, and how I discovered Monsieur Montagny. Not that I discovered him or am taking credit for his success or anything. I was tempted to write a bit about how I would faint on sight of FKM, but then I remembered he has read the site in the past, and that wouldn't really be a great opening line.
  • Whilst we're talking about yummy people, Lucas di Grassi has partnered with some watch people. They sponsor Renault as well, which is slightly odd, although he was a development driver for them. I wonder if this will affect his position in the rankings.
  • We often get people asking if we're bringing back the video previews and at the moment the answer is still no. Teams aren't really giving out as much footage as they used to, and now we know why. Red Bull kept it all for themselves! They have shared the packaged video with us, though, and it's pretty awesome. We'll let them off, especially as they intend to do it for every race.
  • Don't forget the competition to win a signed copy of Joe's book. It closes on Tuesday, so if you haven't already entered, make sure you do!
  • Whilst we're doing reminders, it's worth mentioning the Fantasy Racers league. We'll be doing a roll call of all the teams signed up in this weekend's show, so if you haven't yet joined, are planning to, and want a shout out, make sure you join the Panda Racing league before Sunday.

That should keep you going for now - double the usual number of items! Let us know how your weekend is going, and I will see you in the comments.

Not sure about new album. It's not growing on me yet.

Been listening through 1st 4 albums today, and still have a soft spot for Blue Lines, but Mezzanine is still my favourite.

Who is the vocalist of Pray For Rain? I thought it was the guy from The Invisible, but not sure. That's the problem with downloads, you miss the sleeve notes. (goes to check)

  • Pat W06/03/2010 at 01:12

Quick query... I want to test iToons on Windows. How much hard disk space do you reckon I'll need? I have 12GB of MP3s at 128, 196 (and some in AAC) that'll all need reripping to whatever format it uses and I don't know how much bigger that'll make 'em.

I've got a free 40GB drive and my 200GB external is full. I might shunt 35GB off of it and when I gradually work through the other stuff it'll open up more space (say when I delete the now-superceded MP3s). I've got 5GB of podcasts..

  • guille230606/03/2010 at 01:17

I use SUPER to change formats. I transferred Race Driver Grid Menu music on it (because i liked it, and i am sad)

  • guille230606/03/2010 at 01:32

I use SUPER to change formats. I transferred Race Driver Grid Menu music on it (because i liked it, and i am sad)

but I don't want to change formats. I use OGG and FLAC for a reason (quality and open source), and I find it annoying that a program that it's supposed to be the best music/video library/store/player (at least according to apple) it's unable to play the most common open source formats. I'm actually considering buying an iTouch, and the lack of ogg support is one of the big points against it...

  • Bassano06/03/2010 at 01:34

I use OGG and FLAC for a reason (quality and open source)...

Maybe it's a DRM issue, in the early days the record labels insisted upon it

Maybe it's a DRM issue, in the early days the record labels insisted upon it

    b) Err, no

  • me06/03/2010 at 01:44

I understand it for the store part, but for the player? I understand that they want to push their format (microsoft does the same), but I find it annoying...

i think it's down to patents.

no company with any money in the bank is going near flac or ogg. only companies with essentially nothing to lose are doing it. vlc is based in some country exempt from copyright laws.

h.264 and acc have been properly developed as commercial entities with fully encompassing licensing and that's the only way a massive company like apple will touch it.

  • Pat W06/03/2010 at 01:44

It is 1.39am on a Saturday morning, I am lying on my bed reading (and comparing) the 2009 and 2010 MSA UK regulations on Timing and Time Keepers....

    a) What is everyone else up to?

    b) Can anyone beat the mundaneness of what I'm doing?

I've spent the evening chilling out, taking a break from anything to do with motorsport and the blog.... apart from commenting and the odd tweet.

Now I've had a sudden urge to do some work on an idea I had so I'm making up a quick Excel sheet to see how it looks.

  • guille230606/03/2010 at 01:45

    Agreed

And no plugin allows them to be stored?

Not that I've found. I don't have enough music to make the managing by hand impossible, so I didn't try very hard though. And I'm a Linux guy most of the time, so this rant is more abstract thinking than anything :P

  • guille230606/03/2010 at 01:46

is that something to do with photos?

not that kind of lab... there are lasers involved and if I had a proper digital camera I could take nice pictures, though....

no company with any money in the bank is going near flac or ogg. only companies with essentially nothing to lose are doing it. vlc is based in some country exempt from copyright laws.

didn't know. do you know why those formats are problematic if they're released under GPL licence?

  • guille230606/03/2010 at 01:50

Have you looked at DoubleTwist to see if that will work?

    I'll look at it. thanks

  • me06/03/2010 at 01:51

didn't know. do you know why those formats are problematic if they're released under GPL licence?

because you have no idea who wrote them. if a person rips of an idea or code and releases it under a gpl licence, it's still a ripped off idea or code.

After Senna's death at Imola, Patrick Head & Frank Williams stayed away from Italy for fear of Manslaughter charges

oh right yeah. i read about that in the Senna book. I think they did get hauled in front a court at some point but i'm probably wrong

  • startledbunny06/03/2010 at 02:01

senna thing? i dont know anything about a senna thing?

When he crashed at San Marino in 1994, Williams went to court for years after. Read lower down this wikipedia article

  • Steven Roy06/03/2010 at 02:01

After Senna's death at Imola, Patrick Head & Frank Williams stayed away from Italy for fear of Manslaughter charges

The case was brought back to court a few times after it was closed. Colin Chapman had the same thing when Rindt died at Monza and Jim Clark had it when he crashed with von Trips at Monza in 1961 which resulted in von Trips and a few spectators dying

  • me06/03/2010 at 02:01

I have never listened to TWiG :D but shall do.

It's just all getting a bit stupid. You can't sentence the Google bosses because some idiot put up a video, and you can't restrict trade through the selling of real ralph lauren bags (ok they may have a point over the fake ones) on ebay. It's nuts.

totally, i have equal issues with the libel case with Simon Singh, you cant sue people because you dont like what they say. free speech isnt completley free speech anyway anymore, but its just getting a bit scary.

i gotta go to sleep, feeling rough today so hopefully more sleep will do me good, if not another day of paracetamol! hoorah

    block italy from the internet

  • Jon Waldock06/03/2010 at 02:10

well, this is what i was trying to work out in my head, it probably wasnt and some limiting is probably good for society (im looking at you Islam4UK) so that we dont go all motely crew on people we dont like, but there is a line.

  • me06/03/2010 at 02:11

    block italy from the internet

that's certainly one option. and then you block china... and then...

I think I've sorted it now. Ep37 has nothing, but Ep38 has. It was me, relying on Mevio, who shortened the summary I made.

The longest I was awake was I think when I moved out from my flat in Dundee. I had flown home in January '06, stayed for a few weeks to look for a job, then one weekend Dad 'borrowed' a company van and he drove it from here, that's 10 hours. We arrived at 4am, slept for four hours, loaded the van (furniture and all), cleaned the place down and were away again at about midday for the 10hr return trip.

Okay there was a sleep but it wasn't long. I was a passenger throughout because I wasn't allowed to drive on their insurance.

  • Pat W06/03/2010 at 02:43

I'm not sure why we got there so late, I think it was because he had things to do at work...

So I guess this is a weekend of prep/to yourselves in SPC Towers before the onslaught begins

pretty much. although i do think we'll be doing a lot less this season.

there's still 6 months of coding to be done and a live server to figure out, so pretty much we'll be opening threads and then backing out of it.

  • Bassano06/03/2010 at 03:29

there's still 6 months of coding to be done and a live server to figure out

Still no joy with that then :(

Amy, have you been keeping an eye on what the Euro has been doing? Obviously it would be different against the £ than the AU$... but I need to buy some :-)

  • me06/03/2010 at 03:30

Still no joy with that then :(

it's not a technical problem, it's a time problem. the issue is fixed so to speak, it's just we're not diving into live shows until the process is very much smoother.

Amy, have you been keeping an eye on what the Euro has been doing? Obviously it would be different against the £ than the AU$... but I need to buy some :-)

The Euro is shocking for us Brits, am guessing its better for the Aussies than it used to be

ustream hasn't had buffering issues for us, and it scaled to 100,000 users during leo's apple event stream. i'd assume it's a client issue.

Hey everyone. Finally back from work... things are a nightmare.

Just starting the process of expunging all of the stuff from my website discussing why I was so excited about a team that shall not be named. Also, I need to change the headers up.

Also... my power ranking column is coming back with a vengeance.

Curious question: Will we have Giggles Radio even during the F1 season, assuming the live shows will be back?

Good question... I don't know yet. It might be a warm up thing. Depends on how much people (including me) can cope with.

It would mean wall to wall broadcasting for a european race...

    Parade Lap

    BBC Pre-Show

    Race

    BBC Red Button thing

    Giggles Radio

    Debrief

  • Journeyer06/03/2010 at 07:00

    Parade Lap

    BBC Pre-Show

    Race

    BBC Red Button thing

    Giggles Radio

Add to that the occasional Top Gear, and that is an unbeatable lineup. :D

I'm sure more you is good for us. But as always, it's a matter of how much you can handle. :)

  • Amy06/03/2010 at 07:16

Send some of that rain our way - we're currently experiencing a dry spell.

That said, we've never had a wet Australian GP in Melbourne...

  • Amy06/03/2010 at 07:19

Send some of that rain our way - we're currently experiencing a dry spell.

you can have some of ours, they had to evacuate one of our main stations as the roof collapsed under the weight of the hail. Here is some pictures. It's the second flood in a month!

Very true... If I do remember correctly, the shortest-ever F1 race was in Australia too - stopped due to rains. 1991, I think.

Got unsettled by the first bump, made him take that second bump a lot harder, forced the flip.

Kimi has the speed, but he's still too inconsistent. I wonder how long it'll take him to hone his craft...

No mention of the Mexico rally in Christine's intro... what about yesterday?...

    Nope...

I am disappointed that there isn't the teeniest note... just to remind people...especially since there's no actual F1 going on...

Kathi will no doubt let us know...

Awww. To be fair, so many people are interested, it's being discussed in the comments even if Christine doesn't mention it. She can mention a less-thought-of bullet point (she only has 3 to work with, after all). :)

  • Journeyer06/03/2010 at 08:09

    http://www.stefangp.com/denial.html

Why is this being published on the Stefan GP website if it has nothing to do with the F1 team? Shouldn't this be on the parent company's website instead?

Unless there's an F1 connection I'm missing here?

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 08:12

Unless there's an F1 connection I'm missing here?

That they are good at misleading comments...

Strange - nice to see that other than that, they still haven't updated the website. Apparently they're still trying to get an entry for this year

  • Journeyer06/03/2010 at 08:21

Aha so if I played it over I could learn some new and charming Finnish vocabulary for my trip to Finland in the summer....

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 08:30

So you're going to... 3 rallies this year? Sweden, Jordan, Finland?

Will probably head off for a few more too.... just haven't booked flights etc yet...

Yep.... I know I am mad but it's a great way to see a bit of the world ... actually I saw more in Sweden of Sweden than I generally see of a country when F1-ing....

  • Amy06/03/2010 at 08:32

Yep.... I know I am mad but it's a great way to see a bit of the world ... actually I saw more in Sweden of Sweden than I generally see of a country when F1-ing....

random question, were you much into F1 before Kimi came along?

Yep.... I know I am mad but it's a great way to see a bit of the world ... actually I saw more in Sweden of Sweden than I generally see of a country when F1-ing....

That's the upside of rallying - it's not in an enclosed environment - you really do it outdoors.

Is there a Rally GB this year? You can go there too.

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 08:39

random question, were you much into F1 before Kimi came along?

Followed most races but somehow started to get more into it when Kimi came along in 2001....

    Tended to follow certain drivers....

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 08:41

Is there a Rally GB this year? You can go there too.

There is a Rally GB in Wales in November around the same time as Abu Dhabi...

So there's a choice... Kimi in Wales or the other guys in Abu Dhabi....

    So Wales it is....

  • Amy06/03/2010 at 08:42

    Tended to follow certain drivers....

you've taken following certain drivers to a whole new level :D Even if everyone I like went to the WRC at the same time I just couldn't get into rallying :D

  • Leigh O'Gorman06/03/2010 at 08:44

you've taken following certain drivers to a whole new level :D Even if everyone I like went to the WRC at the same time I just couldn't get into rallying :D

Do love a bit of rallying, although the new commentator on MotorTV drives me mad!!

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 08:46

Even if everyone I like went to the WRC at the same time I just couldn't get into rallying

If you'd asked me a couple of years ago I'd have said the same thing but going to all the F1 races has been such fun when Kimi moved I had to try rallying... and it's fun....

Basically wherever you go in motorsport everyone is sooo lovely...

Kimi is a great excuse for travelling...

  • Amy06/03/2010 at 08:48

If you'd asked me a couple of years ago I'd have said the same thing but going to all the F1 races has been such fun when Kimi moved I had to try rallying... and it's fun....

Perhaps I would feel different if I had seen every F1 circuit but by the end of this year I will have only been to four so lots more to get to, most of which I know I never will :D

  • Journeyer06/03/2010 at 09:03

Unless there's an F1 connection I'm missing here?

    And there is!

I think this is a Google Chrome bug with the Doohickey, but it's a very weird one.

Click a link in the active thread post, and it takes you to another page. You then hit the "back" button and the "reply" buttons become "B", "I", "Del", "Quote". It only happens for the first few comments though, and is one I can't pin down!

    Can anybody confirm and replicate?

Correct, a refresh fixes the issues. I'm amazed at how many websites Chrome breaks because they work around IE and Firefox bugs!

"A navigator's skill lies in good timing, clear pronunciation and a nimble thumb to turn the pages quickly."

My diction is excellent but I suppose Kimi may want it in Finnish...

I'll work on the thumb dexterity this afternoon...

"At least if the police do stop me with the comment, "And who do you think you are? Lewis Hamilton?" I can reply, "No officer, Sébastien Loeb." "

    Hmmm...

Sordo does seem to have disappeared both in the sector and stage times...

They can't all have had accidents, I'm guessing the stage is blocked for some reason

  • Pat W06/03/2010 at 14:41

It is 1.39am on a Saturday morning, I am lying on my bed reading (and comparing) the 2009 and 2010 MSA UK regulations on Timing and Time Keepers....

    a) What is everyone else up to?

    b) Can anyone beat the mundaneness of what I'm doing? {Comment #100}

    a) I was asleep then. After that, I helped prepare tea (which is now in the slow cooker), went shopping, visited Grandma (where I watched the 2009 F1 review on TV) and when I got back I found I'd got an interview at a local library. While typing this I'm also planning how to do stop-motion video reviews of races. So I'm having a good day.

    b) No. Unless the FIA have changed the rules again (in which case I request permission from you to thump whoever was responsible).

I've said this before but Italy & Sanity do not belong in the same sentence

    I read about the Google/You Tube thing and now the ebay thing too. It's just insane. {Comment #115}

The eBay one makes total sense, given that Britain's been trying to get eBay to do the same thing and, if it could afford the court fees, would be legally entitled to force that information to be given over (subject, of course, to lawyers interpreting the "legal enforcement" element the same way as me). Legal enforcers the world over have rules preventing people from blocking the enforcement of laws and eBay's actions could be interpreted as such pretty easily.

The YouTube judgement makes less sense - there's an analogous situation (forum hosts can under certain circumstances be held responsible for publication of posts by others that happen to breach the law), but Google has a reporting/takedown system that one would have thought would be satisfactory to the court.

Virgin and Lotus are proper F1 teams, I'm convinced of that. I believe they will have upgrades at Bahrain and once or twice more in the year. Okay they won't do it at every race like the top teams and they won't close the gap, but I expect them to maintain it and then next year's cars will be faster. You can't expect a new team to do anything else. What does the man want, the same teams year in year out?

Those concerns are valid for HRT though - we don't know anything about them at this stage.

No way will they be able to do as much development as the guys at the front. If they can maintain the gap, they'd have done a heroic effort. But even Super Aguri struggled to maintain that gap in their Year 1 - and that's with Honda funding.

it depends on how far along their negotiations are with vettel and/or kubica. if, as is looking the case, massa stays on pace, it may be difficult for them to let massa go.

Unless you live in China, then execution is very much possible (if rarely practised in case it encourages others) for voicing your opinion on the web. The situation concerning free speech has improved in many other places, thankfully.

  • Pat W06/03/2010 at 15:49

What does the man want, the same teams year in year out?

the 107% rule would be a good start.

    True. I'd settle for 110%.

I was just thinking about it in terms of laptime.

    Let's say a good lap is 1m25s. That's 85s.

    107% is 91s (gap of 6)

    110% is 93.5s (gap of 8.5)

I took 110% from another series but perhaps 107 does make sense.. but I can't see the FIA going through all this trouble only to lock them out that way. They may have to for safety reasons.

  • Pat W06/03/2010 at 15:50

  • Alianora La Canta06/03/2010 at 15:50

    do they still want that though? {Comment #373}

They wanted it in 2004 when their logical third driver was Luca Badoer. They only offered to reprieve Brawn through an engine supply because the damage to F1 and FOTA of losing ex-Honda that way was worse than the downside of only having two cars. So presumably they still do want a three-car team...

  • Journeyer06/03/2010 at 15:51

...perhaps 107 does make sense.. but I can't see the FIA going through all this trouble only to lock them out that way. They may have to for safety reasons.

I would guess they will see where the new teams are at Bahrain, then assess if they need to make adjustments for this. Any decision would have to be made in time for Monaco - that place is just too dangerous with slow backmarkers around.

but the rest i agree with.

    Closer to black

    Virgin GP

    It is black

  • lou06/03/2010 at 16:05

    virgin?

well... a little bit (i don't mind the virgin much... but it's still much more grey than usual..)

    It is black

there is a little bit of grey... (a nice amount..)

  • Pat W06/03/2010 at 16:07

I suppose now though, it could work since no one would have to pit for fuel?

I don't think so. Closing the pits means lining the cars up behind the SC before opening them again. I would say it should've worked with refuelling because the delay created pitlane space.

I suppose it depends where the garages are - if Ferrari are at the end and HRT at the beginning then all fine and dandy. If Ferrari are at the start and HRT at the end, you'd find say Alonso pitting from the lead, stopping for 3 seconds, and emerging among a pack of midfield / lower order cars.

It would be like NASCAR - which is fine for NASCAR because they have acres of space to work with. Most F1 pitlanes aren't like that.

  • Pat W06/03/2010 at 16:07

    Agreed!

Theres less grey than the Virgin.

McLaren's is nice enough, you won't notice it on the Sauber or the Virgin, Campos have used it very well and Mercedes, well, forget about them.

Grey is good. Better than the dull whites we've been seeing in the last few years.

they're not all going to pit for tyres on lap 1 though?

What if they qualified on the "wrong" tyre for the race anticipating an accident as some circuits are more prone to that than others? Australia might be interesting for that ? Am quite happy to be told I'm talking nonsense but this whole using the tyre you qualified on could make for some interesting strategy calls

  • me06/03/2010 at 16:12

I agree on the latter point, it makes you look more professional IMO. Look at Arden in GP2 - they lost the Red Bull backing and could have turned up with a white car, but instead came in team livery. Brawn is unique because Hondas were white anyway and Brawn themselves had no team livery. Sauber is half-and-half.

I very much do mind that nobody has sponsors though.

If everyone else is doing it, they lose nothing. And the potential benefit in perhaps cutting out a pitstop at a less convenient moment or having better-functioning tyres in the first phase of the race could be invaluable. After all a safety car restart at that point is a lot like having a second start.

  • Jon Waldock06/03/2010 at 16:22

Our colours of the car (apart from '93) have always been determined by the main sponsors, so I can't say I'm too surprised there isn't a distinct colour.

    I don't see how that would be unless the backmarkers either stayed out (resulting in them being substantially slower in the next phase of the race), your team messes up its pit-stopping or the backmarkers got through the initial mess in front of the faster cars in the first place. The delta time ensures that the shape of the grid on Safety Car call-out determines the pattern of how they'll arrive in the pits and therefore (in theory, aside from team-mate stacking and errors in practise) how they'll get out of the pits and line up for the re-start. {

I wonder what grey means psychologically....

    From http://www.colour-affects.co.uk/psychological-properties-of-colours

    GREY.

    Positive: Psychological neutrality.

Negative: Lack of confidence, dampness, depression, hibernation, lack of energy.

Pure grey is the only colour that has no direct psychological properties. It is, however, quite suppressive. A virtual absence of colour is depressing and when the world turns grey we are instinctively conditioned to draw in and prepare for hibernation. Unless the precise tone is right, grey has a dampening effect on other colours used with it. Heavy use of grey usually indicates a lack of confidence and fear of exposure.

    RE-START AFTER RETIREMENT

    45.1 GENERAL

45.1.1 A crew which has failed to complete a Day will be assumed to re-start the rally from the start of the next Day unless they confirm otherwise with the clerk of the course by completion of the form located in the rear of the road book and lodging it with the organiser as soon as possible before the stewards’ meeting preceding the re-start.

    and

    45.2 PENALTIES

For all crews which restart a time penalty will be applied.

This time penalty will be as follows:

For every stage or super special stage missed: 5 minutes.

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 16:52

It's interesting... Wilson and Sordo have a flat 5 minutes, but Block has 5 minutes plus whatever difference there is between Petter Solberg and the stage winner.

This time penalty will be added to the fastest time of the drivers’ priority group (P1, P2, P3) for each missed stage, which shall include the special stage or super special stage on which the crew has retired.

For non-priority drivers, this time penalty will be added to the fastest time achieved in its class by a non-priority driver.

And yet we must all bow at the temple of Kimi.

I do tell everyone that I am completely bonkers...

Whereas you are always so rational...

I truly admire how even handed you are as I know I can't be!...every now and then I try but find it pretty much impossible.... a character weakness I know...

Actually if Franck were in F1 would you find it hard to be so even handed?... I bet you would still be nice about pretty much everyone....

Which is why you guys have made this so successful...

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 19:00

(we're still not renaming though, sorry lukeh)

Now I have missed something... changes of name???....

  • Turkey Machine06/03/2010 at 19:01

Actually if Franck were in F1 would you find it hard to be so even handed?... I bet you would still be nice about pretty much everyone....

I have an easy way of being even: I hate everybody equally. :)

  • Turkey Machine06/03/2010 at 19:01

I have an easy way of being even: I hate everybody equally. :)

Although some more equally than others.

  • Christine06/03/2010 at 19:01

Whereas you are always so rational...

    Hehe, it's all a front :)

Actually if Franck were in F1 would you find it hard to be so even handed?... I bet you would still be nice about pretty much everyone....

I would be totally biased, but probably still nice to the others as well. I'm annoying like that!

  • me06/03/2010 at 19:01

Whereas you are always so rational...

    Hehe, it's all a front :)

    it's news to me!

Hello all, Christine's photo reminds me to tell you I now have a ball to sit on at home. My friends gave me a computer chair for my birthday and I bought a ball for the dressing table. I comes with a scary dvd about exercise but I just like sitting on it ;)

  • Christine06/03/2010 at 19:27

Now you have a ball, a podcast is the next logical step :)

I have been spending birthday money this week. As well as my 1TB external hard drive and my ball I have bought Burning Rubber by Charles Jennings One of my resolutions was to read more F1 history so this is the next book I'm going to read. yeah, that line definitely needed fixing.

F1 Timing app for Ipod Touch: Must have??

well, we haven't actually bought it yet, but we will in the next few days, yup.

however, we'll be feeding information back into the live comments, for everyone else.

    it's only 1 pound a race though.

  • jpancoast06/03/2010 at 20:03

Did you see the video posted earlier? It is all onboard and runs for 2 mins before the crash.

The motors tv coverage of the swedish rally had a LOT of that footage. very cool. I'd rather watch the drivers drive than listen to the announcer yap his head off and be constantly switching around.

  • rethymnoracer06/03/2010 at 20:04

    it's only 1 pound a race though.

    Thanks for your response.

Sorry for the delayed response, just been plugging in the new hard drive & setting it up to backup my pc (does it sound like I know what I'm doing?)

If you search for Formula 1 on Waterstones it's the first book that comes up, I found it cheaper on Play.com. Having had a quick flick through it seems like a basic history which is what I need at the moment. Will review when I've read it.

    yikes at number one! :)

Well, I'm much more positive about work now I'm leaving ;)

  • Janna06/03/2010 at 21:13

Christine just commented on the Mark Webber thread :

Just posted the transcript for this. Mark Webber says "very" a lot! :)

This has reminded me to say that I won't be able to donate as much to Sidepodcast in money terms when I stop working so I thought I'd contribute by transcribing. I see from the wiki there are a lot of episodes that need doing, can you let me know if there are any particular priority ones or shall I just start at the beginning?

Janna, you are the nicest person in the whole world!

We tend to think the more recent ones are of a higher priority as they are more relevant information. Plus we're a bit better at the whole speaking thing now than we used to be so they might be easier!

  • Alison06/03/2010 at 21:15

its wierd. no-one should speak like that all the time

I think I could almost pull it off. It takes practice though. They expect you to use certain patterns of speech....

  • Steven Roy06/03/2010 at 21:34

I see fantasy rallying has been updated today.

    http://www.fantasywrc.com/

Not so happy with the current state of the rally though. I had 4 drivers in the top 8 yesterday and now two of them are 14th and 15th

    http://www.wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=405&season=2010&rally_id=MEX&category=&stage=15

  • Paul Convery06/03/2010 at 21:35

Yeah season 4 of Midweek Motorsport is indeed 2009.

  • Pat W06/03/2010 at 21:36

    That's last year's isn't it?

Yeah season 4 of Midweek Motorsport is indeed 2009.

Something like 50 episodes at 2 hours a pop. I know I'm behind too but that's mad :-)

  • Paul Convery06/03/2010 at 21:36

I see fantasy rallying has been updated today.

I was just looking at that awhile ago. I'm top of the Sidepodcast league now and second overall :)

Lol Well I need something to stop myself falling asleep at work, and I only just started listening this year.

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 21:38

Looks like tomorrow we'll get Loeb, Ogier, Solberg, Hirvonen and Jari Matti....

Unless there is a problemo or Petter can get his act together in which case he'll be second and Ogier third....

Hope that suits everyones fantasy teams...

  • RG06/03/2010 at 21:39

Hope that suits everyones fantasy teams...

Couldn't care what order regarding my FR, but hope Oggi gets second.

  • Steven Roy06/03/2010 at 21:39

I think it has Friday's scores but not today's.

It is but they had not been updated last last night. I think I will be heading down the rankings after today's numbers are added in.

  • me06/03/2010 at 21:40

Hope that suits everyones fantasy teams...

    i have kimi! grrr.

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 21:40

I think it has Friday's scores but not today's.

They might be doing the scores now as they'll do the pre Super Specials i.e. at the point they decide on tomorrows running order....

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 21:40

    i have kimi! grrr.

    Then you are lovely...

And deserve a special treat... I suggest you ask Christine for one...

  • Paul Convery06/03/2010 at 21:42

I still have three of the top drivers in my team after today so it's looking pretty good. Apart from Sordo who's down to 14th

  • Jon Waldock06/03/2010 at 21:50

    same as every time!

  • Steven Roy06/03/2010 at 21:51

I've been out of the rally loop. What did Kimi do THIS time?

He rolled slightly. 6 times I think

  • Janna06/03/2010 at 21:52

I've been out of the rally loop. What did Kimi do THIS time?

I refer you to Scott's earlier comment:

  • Paul Convery06/03/2010 at 21:56

Kimi did this to his C4 in Mexico

    http://www.you...m/watch?v=ovGj6vSMqa4

He has been learning from the pros I see. I'd give him 9/10 for that one.

He rolled slightly. 6 times I think

Kimi did this to his C4 in Mexico

Drinking on the job again I see!

He has been learning from the pros I see. I'd give him 9/10 for that one.

The pro's would have got that further down the mountain and had more body parts off. 10/10 for execution and enthusiasm though!

  • Paul Convery06/03/2010 at 22:01

The pro's would have got that further down the mountain and had more body parts off. 10/10 for execution and enthusiasm though!

Plus they would of found a tree to hit as well!

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 22:03

Plus they would of found a tree to hit as well!

Not too many trees in Mexico...

  • Paul Convery06/03/2010 at 22:05

Not too many trees in Mexico...

But that's what makes them pro's, they can always find a tree

  • Paul Convery06/03/2010 at 22:10

Hmm doesn't look like I'm going to get to see the Grand-Am race...

  • Lady Snowcat06/03/2010 at 22:11

It's horrid when you can see the timings stop and everyone else obviously continuing....

It reminded me of 2007 Monza practice.... it took ages after Kimi's time stopped for us to get the news...

    Sort of happened similarly yesterday....

    have never watched it before.

I watched a chunk of the Daytona 24 the other week, otherwise I've not seen it before. These 'roval' courses do nothing for me though, and I'm not sold on the cars.

    have never watched it before.

This years Daytona 24 hours was the first I've got to properly watch some of it. It's a series that would be alot easier for the European market to understand than Nascar or IndyCar, but no one shows its

If ALMS is on a 7 day delay then GrandAm doesn't stand a chance.

Very true, especially when Nascar owns Grand-Am

Well the "roval" courses are still greatly more exciting that ovals, at least in my opinion but they are still just half measures. As for the cars, I quite like them. They aren't as good as you will find in LMS, but your basically talking GT3 cars and a more basic prototype class.

    Does anyone know what "posterior pharyngeal space" (without looking on wiki) is? {Comment #580}

The area immediately in front of the back of the pharynx (that's the space between the mouth and the throat).

Medical terminology class comes in useful sometimes...

It's not the type of thing that I would have wanted to get into before i did, but you jsut gotta start from the beginning and watch it. Everyone i know who's started has loved it, its just like Friends to me, which im totally getting into at the moment!

 Sadly I'm so old I pre-date computers in schools. At my school they decided it was more important we learnt Latin and Greek rather than useful things like typing and cooking.
