The weekend is here, and whilst I am still fighting off germs, we're busy gearing up for the racing to start. This is the last weekend before everything kicks off in Bahrain, so I hope you're making the most of it! Here are some of the things we're talking about, in a super duper extended daily:
- A quick plug before we get into the motorsport stuff, I quickly posted a new episode of Media Future Change last night. It had been delayed a few days because of voice issues but finally made it into the public domain. Hope you enjoy listening, and as ever, feedback is always appreciated.
- I finally got round to updating the about page on I Heart Franck to feature more information about who I am, obviously, and how I discovered Monsieur Montagny. Not that I discovered him or am taking credit for his success or anything. I was tempted to write a bit about how I would faint on sight of FKM, but then I remembered he has read the site in the past, and that wouldn't really be a great opening line.
- Whilst we're talking about yummy people, Lucas di Grassi has partnered with some watch people. They sponsor Renault as well, which is slightly odd, although he was a development driver for them. I wonder if this will affect his position in the rankings.
- We often get people asking if we're bringing back the video previews and at the moment the answer is still no. Teams aren't really giving out as much footage as they used to, and now we know why. Red Bull kept it all for themselves! They have shared the packaged video with us, though, and it's pretty awesome. We'll let them off, especially as they intend to do it for every race.
- Don't forget the competition to win a signed copy of Joe's book. It closes on Tuesday, so if you haven't already entered, make sure you do!
- Whilst we're doing reminders, it's worth mentioning the Fantasy Racers league. We'll be doing a roll call of all the teams signed up in this weekend's show, so if you haven't yet joined, are planning to, and want a shout out, make sure you join the Panda Racing league before Sunday.
That should keep you going for now - double the usual number of items! Let us know how your weekend is going, and I will see you in the comments.
Hello new daily, I am here to see you arrive.
happy saturday everyone.
i apologise for my weirdness... blame tim henmen.
Ah there it is, I was wondering where it'd gone to
On that, can I now remove my entry as I picked up a signed copy last Friday
If not, and my name is drawn, just move on to anther lucky punter please
No probs.

Oggi! :)
Have we got any South African listeners?
Err, what happened to the Listener's Map?
http://platial.com/map/Sidepodcast-s-Listeners/594335/
"Please take the time right now to export any maps you cannot live without"
According to the map Rich and James
woah!
Looking at the story that it links to the guys who started it up are leaving to do other things.
Screenshot :( :( :(
Export! Export!
This is not a call to Holsten
i'll have to look into it, that's a bugger
http://platial.typepad.com/news/2010/02/geographic-euthanasia-the-end-of-platial-as-we-know-it.html
Wonder what this means:
from http://platial.typepad.com/news/2010/03/a-letter-to-our-mappers.html
it means "twitter is where it's at and we've been left for dead".
Rich is in Cape Town, it'd be cool to meet for a beer
Mr C!!!!
You can still see the map if you follow the wiki link and there is no mention of its imminent demise
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Listener+Map
I can't believe you all forgot!! :(
http://photofinishblog.wordpress.com/2010/03/06/a-special-birthday/
;)
rich is ace, he's on twitter: http://twitter.com/richardknight
I remembered. OK I didn't
I never use that, it keeps jumping around at random and is way too small
I wonder where we can export the data to?
Pukka
Thanks
he's a commenter too?..
:D hehe am shocked Lukeh forgot... then again i only remember it cause it's the day after Em's birthday.
No activity since January
I wonder if he still reads though
rich, sure. just don't mention sauber.
Yeah. Rich. The man with the shiny new room and lots of Linux PCs.
how can you no know rich?!
him!
he's like a regular.
Yeah. And he likes Heidfeld.
google maps/earth? a 3d view of the listener map!
I meant, still reads tweets, I was gonna follow and DM him
Will have to look out for him here
If anyone sees him, tell him I'm coming his way... possibly
might have to be. no time this week tho.
Yes. Haven't seen him for a little while but Rich has commented for a while. Maybe he is busy with all the stuff that was happening at work. He runs IT for a niversity and they had a new building and complete re-organisation happening. There are pics in dorpio of his new computer labs
But can we have all the listener's on an SPC Earth?
He is a little bit of a Heidfeld fan
you know, Rich. Rich! remember? he comments and things.
Silly apostrophe, creeping in there unwanted
:)

you also have google mars and google sky, if you need it.. ;-)
And no show this week to promote Bassano's International Meet-ups :(
tried googling listener maps, and user generated maps, but nothing of any use. I would have said Frappr, but it's the same people. *facepalm*
night all, happy Brawn day ;) xx
hehehe. i found plaitial by googling frappr :)
hehe bassano the true drinking begins tomorrow evening when i go out with my family D:
Night lou and emily (since I can't be bothered to change back to Friday)
I wonder if there'll be any suggestions on the Platial Blog?
http://platial.typepad.com/
Night Lou
I'm in the pub too
We'll do a virtual cheers via Twitter
Tweers?
night emily & lou happy Brawn day.
Pat, did you see the wicked video @fourstar linked to for the Massive Attack tune?
oooh, that was a quick fix:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=107243466441483332763.000481175a0e00ff19f2b
not sure if anyone can add to it though?
No I missed it
One sec
I haven't got an option to add anything.
Clips from a film wasn't it?
Not sure about new album. It's not growing on me yet.
Been listening through 1st 4 albums today, and still have a soft spot for Blue Lines, but Mezzanine is still my favourite.
thought as much.
at least we know the data is sound.
So long as the data is stored somewhere for now until a better home can be found
I did that before I listened to the new one on Spotify. It was okay, I probably need to listen to it more.
Yeah, from The Fall
Track is Paradise Circus with Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval, I think
Vid and tune work well together
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O86iI7oXYfA
Same, really like 100th Window too though
Link needs to go on the wiki until another solution can be found
I like that one too. Read a review for latest, and they berated 100th Window.
night lou
Fools
Heligoland is a grower
can do, cheers for the headsup.
I think of the Listener's Map as one of my children
[I don't have any human ones, btw :)]
Who is the vocalist of Pray For Rain? I thought it was the guy from The Invisible, but not sure. That's the problem with downloads, you miss the sleeve notes. (goes to check)
Quick query... I want to test iToons on Windows. How much hard disk space do you reckon I'll need? I have 12GB of MP3s at 128, 196 (and some in AAC) that'll all need reripping to whatever format it uses and I don't know how much bigger that'll make 'em.
Tunde Adebimpe
Lead singer of the Brooklyn-based band TV on the Radio
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunde_Adebimpe
mmmm... I'm not in it. Some of the data is not exporting?
If you're short of space, I'd keep the library on an external
You don't need to change them, they should all play fine.
don't worry. you have to go to page 2 on the list on the left to actually show the pins for the people there...
After you install iTunes you can select your preferred file type in the preferences
I've got a free 40GB drive and my 200GB external is full. I might shunt 35GB off of it and when I gradually work through the other stuff it'll open up more space (say when I delete the now-superceded MP3s). I've got 5GB of podcasts..
but it wont read ogg... I don't tell me it is because it has 'no computational power' :-(
Okay. I do want to change up the 128 files though.
You can buy 1TB USB powered portables now
But 500GB is about £50
You might be able to, I can't... all my money is currently directed on the Spain holiday and then Spa...
of course this means I probably shouldn't be installing iTunes :)
Fair point
I've got grand ambitions of squeezing in some other races but I say that every March :)
I see Massive Attack use their proper names now. I still think of them as 3D and Mushroom
Yeah, they're changeable though
Maybe they are 'growing up'
I think you can get a Quicktime Plugin for that
Taking into account that I'm sitting in the floor of the lab, talking to (lovely) people in the internet, it's not starting very well...
sort of. it plays, but it doesn't integrate them into the library. I can use vlc for that
Ah, ok
I use SUPER to change formats. I transferred Race Driver Grid Menu music on it (because i liked it, and i am sad)
but I don't want to change formats. I use OGG and FLAC for a reason (quality and open source), and I find it annoying that a program that it's supposed to be the best music/video library/store/player (at least according to apple) it's unable to play the most common open source formats. I'm actually considering buying an iTouch, and the lack of ogg support is one of the big points against it...
Maybe it's a DRM issue, in the early days the record labels insisted upon it
Changed now of course...
I understand it for the store part, but for the player? I understand that they want to push their format (microsoft does the same), but I find it annoying...
Agreed
And no plugin allows them to be stored?
It is 1.39am on a Saturday morning, I am lying on my bed reading (and comparing) the 2009 and 2010 MSA UK regulations on Timing and Time Keepers....
a) What is everyone else up to?
b) Can anyone beat the mundaneness of what I'm doing?
a)Shownotes
b)Shownotes
As I said, it's 22:42, and I'm sit in the floor of a dark lab, waiting for a measurement to finish (to start another)
is that something to do with photos?
a) Chillin', in preparation for tomorrow's marathon sesh with friends over from Ireland
b) Err, no
i think it's down to patents.
no company with any money in the bank is going near flac or ogg. only companies with essentially nothing to lose are doing it. vlc is based in some country exempt from copyright laws.
h.264 and acc have been properly developed as commercial entities with fully encompassing licensing and that's the only way a massive company like apple will touch it.
I've spent the evening chilling out, taking a break from anything to do with motorsport and the blog.... apart from commenting and the odd tweet.
Now I've had a sudden urge to do some work on an idea I had so I'm making up a quick Excel sheet to see how it looks.
Not that I've found. I don't have enough music to make the managing by hand impossible, so I didn't try very hard though. And I'm a Linux guy most of the time, so this rant is more abstract thinking than anything :P
not that kind of lab... there are lasers involved and if I had a proper digital camera I could take nice pictures, though....
Have you looked at DoubleTwist to see if that will work?
didn't know. do you know why those formats are problematic if they're released under GPL licence?
I'll look at it. thanks
because you have no idea who wrote them. if a person rips of an idea or code and releases it under a gpl licence, it's still a ripped off idea or code.
Are Italian courts insane!! I mean really!!
That is all
I've said this before but Italy & Sanity do not belong in the same sentence
I read about the Google/You Tube thing and now the ebay thing too. It's just insane.
what now?
sounds reasonable...
ignore
the Senna thing was a farce from start to finish, so nothing surprises me with them
senna thing? i dont know anything about a senna thing?
What?
After Senna's death at Imola, Patrick Head & Frank Williams stayed away from Italy for fear of Manslaughter charges
oh right yeah. i read about that in the Senna book. I think they did get hauled in front a court at some point but i'm probably wrong
When he crashed at San Marino in 1994, Williams went to court for years after. Read lower down this wikipedia article
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Ayrton_Senna
The case was brought back to court a few times after it was closed. Colin Chapman had the same thing when Rindt died at Monza and Jim Clark had it when he crashed with von Trips at Monza in 1961 which resulted in von Trips and a few spectators dying
have you listened to TWiG this week?
http://twit.tv/twig31
I have never listened to TWiG :D but shall do.
It's just all getting a bit stupid. You can't sentence the Google bosses because some idiot put up a video, and you can't restrict trade through the selling of real ralph lauren bags (ok they may have a point over the fake ones) on ebay. It's nuts.
it has the potential to ruin the web, if it ever goes that far.
thankfully it's someone else who has to figure out the problems :)
btw jon, we really oughta have a chat about commenting context.
i read your first comment and thought "uh-huh", and carried on with what i was doing, assuming maybe you were watching something on tv. tis actually a very interesting subject now i know what on earth you mean ;)
Awesome - Petter Solberg is on Twitter
http://twitter.com/Petter_Solberg
totally, i have equal issues with the libel case with Simon Singh, you cant sue people because you dont like what they say. free speech isnt completley free speech anyway anymore, but its just getting a bit scary.
i gotta go to sleep, feeling rough today so hopefully more sleep will do me good, if not another day of paracetamol! hoorah
ah yeah. sorry about that! i tend to do that alot i find. shall try harder.
was it ever completely free?
tis okay. just letting ya know i ignored the first one, and if no-one had asked, i'd be none the wiser :)
block italy from the internet
well, this is what i was trying to work out in my head, it probably wasnt and some limiting is probably good for society (im looking at you Islam4UK) so that we dont go all motely crew on people we dont like, but there is a line.
that's certainly one option. and then you block china... and then...
eventually it's not a world wide web any more.
how far do you go back, people used to be beheaded for voicing an opinion. at least the web only leads to prison :)
not sure it ever has been.
Never
Just so you know, while I may be eons behind (and I'm not deleting to catch up as I am with a few others), I am keeping podcasts I've listened to so I know which notes to refer to when I get around to playing with iTunes properly, so I can buy stuff. So keep writing 'em please. :)
it is currently worldwide. it's just not completely open world wide.
true.
They don't seem to work in iTunes. Either it's me or Mevio. I'm guessing me.
ah! still, they should be searchable?
I think I've sorted it now. Ep37 has nothing, but Ep38 has. It was me, relying on Mevio, who shortened the summary I made.
am listening now sb. will close comments for a bit, have to concentrate on coding, back in 56mins (ish) :)
see ya Mr C
I must go to bed, been up for 24hrs now, and I am due some quality sleep.
night all
See ya. I can't fathom staying up that long, even for Le Mans :)
Night SB
Ah, it's quite do-able
Depends on your reasons though
I drove to London, then Aylesbury, then home. 400 mile round trip. Worn out. All work related.
night sb, and see you later mr.c
3 cans of Red Bull during the day helped a lot.
I can imagine.
The longest I was awake was I think when I moved out from my flat in Dundee. I had flown home in January '06, stayed for a few weeks to look for a job, then one weekend Dad 'borrowed' a company van and he drove it from here, that's 10 hours. We arrived at 4am, slept for four hours, loaded the van (furniture and all), cleaned the place down and were away again at about midday for the 10hr return trip.
Okay there was a sleep but it wasn't long. I was a passenger throughout because I wasn't allowed to drive on their insurance.
I'm not sure why we got there so late, I think it was because he had things to do at work...
ooh pat wants to squeeze in more races? *cough* italy *cough*
:)
bunny, that was an awesome show.
Heh, I was thinking of something cheaper, but I would love to do that race :)
I may have been to Monza before... but with no racing on.
I listened to one last night, he's very good at picking songs. Worth going back if you haven't done so.
ooh, lou blogged? did i miss the plug?
http://photofinishblog.wordpress.com/2010/03/06/a-special-birthday/
shall do.
You did Sir
Seems Lukeh forgot 'twas the anniversary too
heheh :)
My blog idea is going to be a bit cumbersome I think. I was going to have a new page off the header that I could link to, it would be similar to your Season page in some aspects but it would consist only of points tables for various series.
So I guess this is a weekend of prep/to yourselves in SPC Towers before the onslaught begins
pretty much. although i do think we'll be doing a lot less this season.
there's still 6 months of coding to be done and a live server to figure out, so pretty much we'll be opening threads and then backing out of it.
Still no joy with that then :(
Amy, have you been keeping an eye on what the Euro has been doing? Obviously it would be different against the £ than the AU$... but I need to buy some :-)
it's not a technical problem, it's a time problem. the issue is fixed so to speak, it's just we're not diving into live shows until the process is very much smoother.
The Euro is shocking for us Brits, am guessing its better for the Aussies than it used to be
So no Parade Laps either yet?
umm, well i'm not sure, but with giggles' radio licence, i think we're hoping he'll host them and call us.
(no idea if we've got around to asking him that)
I need spending money for Spain. I think the conversion is going to hurt.
With 20 listeners there are buffering issues, can his side cope?
Effectively 1 for 1 :(
Under normal circumstance I wouldn't expect one until probably Barcelona anyway though.. Started with the Euro races last year didn't they?
ustream hasn't had buffering issues for us, and it scaled to 100,000 users during leo's apple event stream. i'd assume it's a client issue.
yup. works for me, unless anyone wants more?
I think Giggles has the broadcasting bug though
He was at Maplin last Friday before the Joe talk
:)
That's probably a silly Q for this place :)
Lost me now
:-)
I was wondering when he was going to complete the alphabet now the season is going... but I think I can answer that by saying 'non F1 weeks'? Unless he's planning to do them after the racing.
oops.
hadn't occurred to me.
as in... the buffering is your end.
Ok, probably quite true
Lukeh said he had issues too, also on VM
Either would work really, from his POV.
From mine I'd prefer them on 'off weeks' but then I could be busy on those as the family knows I'm 'available'..
I like to keep my family guessing by being unpredictable ;)
damn hard to prove where the issue is. i'd be stunned if ustream fell over with 20 viewers though.
I'd have to agree
I must away. I stayed far too late listening to music and doing those tables when I'd planned to go and get a haircut in the morning... There's a danger of sleeping in and missing him now :)
Ah well if I do there's always next week. Apart from quali being on..
I wouldn't be surprised if the church near me had a live prayer cast, sapping all the broadband goodness :D
night chap.
:D
See ya Pat
I'm attempting something like that, last week I stayed here and listened to Giggles Radio instead of going anywhere.
There is the issue of our supposedly weekly golf match which is shuffled around a lot due to weather.
The euro is soooo good for me at the moment but so is the pound. Aussie dollar is very strong
One of the few countries outside of China that didn't have a recession I think
they still blame it for everything though! Everyone in my office lost half an hours work a day which isnt much but adds up to 130 hours over a year in pay I used to receive
Well, to some extent they do have to deal with the rest of the world and their money
or lack thereof.
Sadly, yes
Yet some idiots still want to go on strike!
true story.
we just had a freaky flash storm and now our lifts arent working :( i hope they fix them by 530 because i dont want to go down 16 flights of stairs :D
At least it's not up ;)
at least! going home now. see you tomorrow? today?... after the sun gets up...
Hey everyone. Finally back from work... things are a nightmare.
Just starting the process of expunging all of the stuff from my website discussing why I was so excited about a team that shall not be named. Also, I need to change the headers up.
Also... my power ranking column is coming back with a vengeance.
Funny picture of Buemi: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/1003/did.you.see.that.0305/content.5.html
Buemi just came to realization that someone lathered his racing suit it in icy hot.
Morning everyone :)
Geeze, even on the weekends you're an early riser.
I know... Tell me about it. I have a lot on at the moment... busy busy busy...
Morning folks. :)
Lou, greet Em a Happy Birthday for me. :D
And it's Alison's turn to take a trip in the time machine... ;)
I have no idea how that happened..... I just opened the page I swear!
Morning Alison and Journeyer
How to pronounce Filippine
:D
It's all right. ;) Did you reload the page, or just turned it off sleep mode?
Morning Alex. :)
Curious question: Will we have Giggles Radio even during the F1 season, assuming the live shows will be back?
Good question... I don't know yet. It might be a warm up thing. Depends on how much people (including me) can cope with.
It would mean wall to wall broadcasting for a european race...
Parade Lap
BBC Pre-Show
Race
BBC Red Button thing
Giggles Radio
Debrief
Add to that the occasional Top Gear, and that is an unbeatable lineup. :D
I'm sure more you is good for us. But as always, it's a matter of how much you can handle. :)
they did not fix the lifts :(
if it storms like this in 3 weeks I will not be happy! I do not want the race to be stopped by floods :(
Send some of that rain our way - we're currently experiencing a dry spell.
That said, we've never had a wet Australian GP in Melbourne...
you can have some of ours, they had to evacuate one of our main stations as the roof collapsed under the weight of the hail. Here is some pictures. It's the second flood in a month!
wow. :O
I can handle non-race stopping rain but a Malaysia like situation would make me grrrrrrr
Very true... If I do remember correctly, the shortest-ever F1 race was in Australia too - stopped due to rains. 1991, I think.
ahh the police have asked people to stay away from the city tonight. I like having a good excuse for not leaving the house :D And here is a story about the side of F1 I don't care about at all.
*googles* hmmm. not bad. :D
theres not a lot of point in not running a photo when she is "advertising" the F1 in shots like this.
indeed. looks like they missed a trick there... ;)
Don't do this at home! #sillyFinn
whoops! Some of the places where rallying fans stand make me really nervous.
Morning everyone
Got unsettled by the first bump, made him take that second bump a lot harder, forced the flip.
Kimi has the speed, but he's still too inconsistent. I wonder how long it'll take him to hone his craft...
I was just watching that before logging on to spc Kathi...
Funnily in the wrc review of the day they've bleeped out Kimi's comment...
I wonder why....
Finnish swear? :-/
No mention of the Mexico rally in Christine's intro... what about yesterday?...
Nope...
I am disappointed that there isn't the teeniest note... just to remind people...especially since there's no actual F1 going on...
Kathi will no doubt let us know...
Awww. To be fair, so many people are interested, it's being discussed in the comments even if Christine doesn't mention it. She can mention a less-thought-of bullet point (she only has 3 to work with, after all). :)
http://www.stefangp.com/denial.html
Why is this being published on the Stefan GP website if it has nothing to do with the F1 team? Shouldn't this be on the parent company's website instead?
Unless there's an F1 connection I'm missing here?
That they are good at misleading comments...
That may well be a good point in Bernie's book?...
yep
Fair enough...
And I guess Franck needs more promotion than Kimi....
Aha so if I played it over I could learn some new and charming Finnish vocabulary for my trip to Finland in the summer....
Strange - nice to see that other than that, they still haven't updated the website. Apparently they're still trying to get an entry for this year
:D So you're going to... 3 rallies this year? Sweden, Jordan, Finland?
Will probably head off for a few more too.... just haven't booked flights etc yet...
Yep.... I know I am mad but it's a great way to see a bit of the world ... actually I saw more in Sweden of Sweden than I generally see of a country when F1-ing....
random question, were you much into F1 before Kimi came along?
That's the upside of rallying - it's not in an enclosed environment - you really do it outdoors.
Is there a Rally GB this year? You can go there too.
Followed most races but somehow started to get more into it when Kimi came along in 2001....
Tended to follow certain drivers....
There is a Rally GB in Wales in November around the same time as Abu Dhabi...
So there's a choice... Kimi in Wales or the other guys in Abu Dhabi....
So Wales it is....
you've taken following certain drivers to a whole new level :D Even if everyone I like went to the WRC at the same time I just couldn't get into rallying :D
Do love a bit of rallying, although the new commentator on MotorTV drives me mad!!
If you'd asked me a couple of years ago I'd have said the same thing but going to all the F1 races has been such fun when Kimi moved I had to try rallying... and it's fun....
Basically wherever you go in motorsport everyone is sooo lovely...
Kimi is a great excuse for travelling...
Perhaps I would feel different if I had seen every F1 circuit but by the end of this year I will have only been to four so lots more to get to, most of which I know I never will :D
And there is!
As I was browsing through the F1Reject forums, I saw this commercial.
Just too hilarious not to mention. :D
what??
Does the rich guy with the N emblem look familiar to you?
Kind of thought it looked like Flavio, but surely not...
Doesn't he have his own Billionaire brand? That's what the huge N could be based on.
It's a funny * take of Flav....
Rallying currently on Dave and Motors....
Sky+ here we come....
ahhhhhhhhhh......
:D
hey all
Just watching the rally on Motors ...
Mr Block talking about how Americans need to get into rallying but it doesn't get the exposure....
He rightly says "Americans like watching Americans"....
Shame that USF1 didn't see it through isn't it....
Too true. Either Americans or American sports.
Goodmorning all. Having a little chuckle to myself about the FIF1 tweet thing.
How are we all today?
i'm okay, got a bit of a sore throat this morning but other than that alright. yourself?
i do too. felt very ill yesterday but feeling a bit better today.
http://xkcd.com/710/
^^ that'll cheer ya up
:D
@Mr C, ta for the TWiG shout, very good ep, very interesting
poor poor poor little car: http://www.aamulehti.fi/uutiset/urheilu/172528.shtml
KIMI!
You know what, I forgive him. 2 reasons;
1) He had his cap in the car and put it on when he got out the car...
2) Watch the end of the video....you can see the cap fly past the camera....:D
Afternoon SPCLand.
Remind me to never go rallying with him.
Afternoon all.
Was just thinking, eventually will his co-driver not want to be in the car?
Afternoon
Going to settle down to watch Day 1 in a few minutes
At the moment he still sound mostly amused. We'll see ... :)
Blimey
Afternoon all
I think this is a Google Chrome bug with the Doohickey, but it's a very weird one.
Click a link in the active thread post, and it takes you to another page. You then hit the "back" button and the "reply" buttons become "B", "I", "Del", "Quote". It only happens for the first few comments though, and is one I can't pin down!
Can anybody confirm and replicate?
Hey SB and Leigh
Yep. Chrome has always had issues. Give it a refresh and it'll be fine
Correct, a refresh fixes the issues. I'm amazed at how many websites Chrome breaks because they work around IE and Firefox bugs!
Oooo....
Would there be a vacancy?....
Any news if Kimi will be running today? I can probably take a guess but wondered if there was any real info?
No he won't...
The car is not patch-up-able....
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/motorsport/2749065/Rally-Ireland-How-to-become-a-rally-navigator-in-six-weeks.html
;)
get going
BBC 1 now....There's F1 Goodness.
yay
Excellent and thanks Jon...
"A navigator's skill lies in good timing, clear pronunciation and a nimble thumb to turn the pages quickly."
My diction is excellent but I suppose Kimi may want it in Finnish...
I'll work on the thumb dexterity this afternoon...
"At least if the police do stop me with the comment, "And who do you think you are? Lewis Hamilton?" I can reply, "No officer, Sébastien Loeb." "
Hmmm...
Do you think the policeman would turn white if I said Kimi Raikkonen....
Great article I think I'll send off for the "Go Rallying" pack...
I don't want to watch anything with the words 'F1' and '2009' in it. Nothing but bad memories.
!!!! but.. but.... today is a special day!
Hmmm.....
I can see where you are coming from but if the price is Schumacher back in F1 then the price is too high....
but..i know... but... Jenson... world championship.... :(
I was promised a title chllenge y'know, and we ended up struggling for a podium.
I have to admit I'll recall 2009 with a mixture of elation (Spa and private friends type stuff) and huge regret (Kimi's last year)....
Oh well... that's life!...
Hello.
Supremely long sleep followed by hot shower = win.
I think I missed the barber though, stoopid saturday opening hours
Why are they doing a 2009 review? There has been so much change! If any year is crying out for a pre-season primer it is this one.
Solberg has started in Mexico...
First split is up...
OK, at the risk of sounding completely stupid, I have to ask. What's a "headping"?
When you talk about someone and they appear. Thats a headping.
For example.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUU
ace!
I shall be putting this to the test next weekend. I have the house to myself.
Well, there's a dog here, but she likes curling up on the sofa and going to sleep. :)
Mine is broken. I tend to appear when doctor who is mentioned. ;)
you called?..
Is there any way to get access to the GPS data?
hoorah.
see, there ya go TM.
was just showing what Headping is :)
Point proved, I shall go drown myself in paracetamol to kick this headache.
Laters.
ahh :)
see ya
i shall join you i think, Paracetamol right next to me!
Not that I know of...
Hmm...
Loeb abd Sordo's splits look good but Ogier has disappeared...
Hirvonen and Jari Matti not as promising...
wow, looks likes we missed one helluva force india tweet!
Sordo stopped on the stage
It's a mistake with the timing in Ogiers case...
He's now home but Mr Loeb has overtaken him on the leader board...
Nooooooo
:-D
Ooo...
Jari Matti did pretty well...
Sordo does seem to have disappeared both in the sector and stage times...
Pat you were half right yesterday. The Fords didn't sandbag but it looks very much like Loeb did.
I just saw some tweets, sounds like he's flying!
He is and it looks like Mikko is doing better today...
Just come in behind Loeb and in front of Jari Matti but still no Sordo....
Matthew Wilson and Ken Block stopped as well
Petter had a 27sec lead overnight, but Seb has already reduced that by 17sec after a single stage..
They can't all have had accidents, I'm guessing the stage is blocked for some reason
I'm just going to walk around the block, check my car doesn't have a ticket and get some air and maybe a coffee... back shortly.
Sordo has a mechanical problem, Matthew went straight when he should have gone right and is stuck in a ditch and I don't know what's wrong with Block. But all are out of the way of the other cars
Are you listening to the radio Kathi?...
yes. Ken broke his suspension.
Block has broken suspension and Wilson has only one wheel on the ground....
No-one has tried to beat 6 rolls yet though
oh dear :(
Sordo has a broken wishbone. Well not Sordo but Sordo's car :)
Latte and a caramel shortcake from Costa, lovely
It is 1.39am on a Saturday morning, I am lying on my bed reading (and comparing) the 2009 and 2010 MSA UK regulations on Timing and Time Keepers....
a) What is everyone else up to?
b) Can anyone beat the mundaneness of what I'm doing? {Comment #100}
a) I was asleep then. After that, I helped prepare tea (which is now in the slow cooker), went shopping, visited Grandma (where I watched the 2009 F1 review on TV) and when I got back I found I'd got an interview at a local library. While typing this I'm also planning how to do stop-motion video reviews of races. So I'm having a good day.
b) No. Unless the FIA have changed the rules again (in which case I request permission from you to thump whoever was responsible).
Has BlogF1 fallen over?
Solberg started the next stage...
oh no :(
Hello all, just tried BlogF1 and can see the site & read the articles, is there another problem?
It isn't loading at all for me.
it's fine for me
Ollie had a great post about helmet cameras used by Felipe Massa and it reminded me of the ones Champ Car used to use.
Here's Paul Tracy at Montreal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3CLCPhYQfc&feature=related
dead here too.
wow!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81892
Felipe having a nice moan
What's the fastest lap you've seen at Brands Hatch Indy? I'm thinking this one :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1xFhr-ppVc
he's right though.
Rather he had a moan about Alfonso....
Webber's already done this as has Massa's boss.....
Very short-sighted of him. It isn't like they'll stay that far back, not Virgin or Lotus anyway. The only Minardi-like team is Hispania.
...Only if they get the funding to develop. Iffy at this point.
Hello, folks.
are you sure? people are saying they'll fall farther back when big teams bolt on new parts in bahrain.
10 seconds off the pace is dangerous.
Dex says Baguette is off to the Indy 500
http://www.mynameisirl.com/2010/03/baguette-with-your-dog-sir.html
10 might be a bit much, but i can easily see them 6-7 seconds off.
croftie mentioned 10 on the radio this week.
...really? if that is true, that would be embarrassing.
I've said this before but Italy & Sanity do not belong in the same sentence
I read about the Google/You Tube thing and now the ebay thing too. It's just insane. {Comment #115}
The eBay one makes total sense, given that Britain's been trying to get eBay to do the same thing and, if it could afford the court fees, would be legally entitled to force that information to be given over (subject, of course, to lawyers interpreting the "legal enforcement" element the same way as me). Legal enforcers the world over have rules preventing people from blocking the enforcement of laws and eBay's actions could be interpreted as such pretty easily.
The YouTube judgement makes less sense - there's an analogous situation (forum hosts can under certain circumstances be held responsible for publication of posts by others that happen to breach the law), but Google has a reporting/takedown system that one would have thought would be satisfactory to the court.
something like that, he had the info from engineers, who said cars are yet to do banzai laps and new diffusers still to be fitted. virgin are fixing leaks, not developing performance parts.
i'm siding with massa.
indeed. so am i.
I was thinking about him the other day, wondered where he'd go off too with no F1 seats
Virgin and Lotus are proper F1 teams, I'm convinced of that. I believe they will have upgrades at Bahrain and once or twice more in the year. Okay they won't do it at every race like the top teams and they won't close the gap, but I expect them to maintain it and then next year's cars will be faster. You can't expect a new team to do anything else. What does the man want, the same teams year in year out?
Those concerns are valid for HRT though - we don't know anything about them at this stage.
I wonder if they'd appreciate the bread puns... ;)
the 107% rule would be a good start.
True. I'd settle for 110%.
No way will they be able to do as much development as the guys at the front. If they can maintain the gap, they'd have done a heroic effort. But even Super Aguri struggled to maintain that gap in their Year 1 - and that's with Honda funding.
Very short-sighted of him. It isn't like they'll stay that far back, not Virgin or Lotus anyway. The only Minardi-like team is Hispania. {Comment #354}
He's simply repeating the party line regarding the new teams. Remember Ferrari wants to be able to put three cars on the grid and suddenly the message makes perfect sense...
As would I - but I suspect that would just lead to us having... well, 20 cars anyway.
A bit too late for that now, their expected 3rd driver is somewhere else.
do they still want that though?
schumi isn't coming back. they've only got fissi and the young tester chap.
:)
To me, Ferrari can't moan about dangerous and slow drivers after they put Badoer in with his shockingly back pace.
and Gene
also true.
it depends on how far along their negotiations are with vettel and/or kubica. if, as is looking the case, massa stays on pace, it may be difficult for them to let massa go.
they didn't even want him on the grid last year :)
they got rid of Kimi pretty easily and he was well on the pace
TBH, i don't think he was fast enough, especially when once considers his pay packet.
massa is much more affordable, though.
lotus' pace?
;)
how far do you go back, people used to be beheaded for voicing an opinion. at least the web only leads to prison :) {Comment #137}
Unless you live in China, then execution is very much possible (if rarely practised in case it encourages others) for voicing your opinion on the web. The situation concerning free speech has improved in many other places, thankfully.
I was just thinking about it in terms of laptime.
Let's say a good lap is 1m25s. That's 85s.
107% is 91s (gap of 6)
110% is 93.5s (gap of 8.5)
I took 110% from another series but perhaps 107 does make sense.. but I can't see the FIA going through all this trouble only to lock them out that way. They may have to for safety reasons.
only for HRT though, long-term
Speaking of HRT, someone over on the autosport forums added some colour to the livery ;) http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=111348&view=findpost&p=4195652
bahrain should be okay maybe. the track is wide enough and runoffs a plenty.
expecting carnage in aus tho.
do they still want that though? {Comment #373}
They wanted it in 2004 when their logical third driver was Luca Badoer. They only offered to reprieve Brawn through an engine supply because the damage to F1 and FOTA of losing ex-Honda that way was worse than the downside of only having two cars. So presumably they still do want a three-car team...
I would guess they will see where the new teams are at Bahrain, then assess if they need to make adjustments for this. Any decision would have to be made in time for Monaco - that place is just too dangerous with slow backmarkers around.
i like the green!
Year 1 was horrifically slow and I expect nothing different this year. Year 2 was much better - now I know they had the benefit of a better car, but so could these other teams.
Nope, I still love the initial livery.
Me too, initial livery was better.
to be fair, aus = carnage, even without new teams. ;)
Bad me....
To me, Ferrari can't moan about dangerous and slow drivers after they put Badoer in with his shockingly back pace. {Comment #375}
Well, Luca was only three seconds off the pace. This lot will be somewhat more than that...
...though I'm still with the new teams on this one.
And thats why it may feature in my top 5 2010 liveries:
http://northernwaffler.wordpress.com/2010/03/04/top-5-2010-f1-liveries/
There's always carnage in Aus :-)
In terms of safety I'm far more concerned about 24 cars pitting under safety car when stops only take 3 seconds.
but its grey...
It's called camoflage....
ooh, good point. the delta time means they'll be spread though, right?
i don't like it.. :(
it's a good grey, though. and the white lines add some texture to the overall colour.
And? If you work it well, which Campos have, then it looks brilliant.
that might not matter much if they were in the process of being lapped by the midfield...
That's true, I suppose most would pit before the caught the SC. I was still thinking in terms of peeling off after they were all queued up
pitlane is open now though.
it won't be a train though.
given how close the midfield is right now, i suspect it will be.
F1 never did get the hang of closing the pits :)
i did love that idea, though. oh well.
Steven English has found Ricardo Rosset.
http://twitter.com/Steven_GP/statuses/10077479005
I suppose now though, it could work since no one would have to pit for fuel?
The Americans are very good at it, it works well for them but they have other systems in place to complement it. F1 just isn't built that way.
good point.
BBC 1 now....There's F1 Goodness. {Comment #294}
Ah, it was fun watching the 2009 review again, just to notice all the stuff that's changed since. I've also now seen the new BBC F1 adverts three times - good use of anachronistic footage...
can i complain about the amount of grey on the grid this year please? we have...
Mclaren,
Mercedes
Sauber,
HRT,
Virgin GP
tooo much grey in my opinion...
ooh, good point. the delta time means they'll be spread though, right? {Comment #401}
Not if the safety car is called immediately after a first-corner pile-up, which is the most likely scenario. Then all the delta times would get the entire grid into the pit entry within about 5 seconds of each other...
they're not all going to pit for tyres ono lap 1 though?
virgin?
but the rest i agree with.
maybe a few gamblers at the back, but not much more.
Closer to black
It is black
well... a little bit (i don't mind the virgin much... but it's still much more grey than usual..)
bright orange isn't it?
it's grey.. it may be darker grey... but it's still grey.
there is a little bit of grey... (a nice amount..)
I don't think so. Closing the pits means lining the cars up behind the SC before opening them again. I would say it should've worked with refuelling because the delay created pitlane space.
I suppose it depends where the garages are - if Ferrari are at the end and HRT at the beginning then all fine and dandy. If Ferrari are at the start and HRT at the end, you'd find say Alonso pitting from the lead, stopping for 3 seconds, and emerging among a pack of midfield / lower order cars.
It would be like NASCAR - which is fine for NASCAR because they have acres of space to work with. Most F1 pitlanes aren't like that.
Agreed!
Theres less grey than the Virgin.
some of the swirls are grey right? ... i like it on the Virgin though, it's a good balance. But it's grey ;)
wow, looks likes we missed one helluva force india tweet! {Comment #323}
I do love FIF1's tweet stream :) Even if my browser nearly locked up attempting to find out the story behind the tweet...
Postscript: Am now patting myself on the back for refusing to use any URL shortening surface.
McLaren's is nice enough, you won't notice it on the Sauber or the Virgin, Campos have used it very well and Mercedes, well, forget about them.
Grey is good. Better than the dull whites we've been seeing in the last few years.
they're not all going to pit for tyres ono lap 1 though? {Comment #419}
A lot of them will, given that everyone has to start on the tired tyres they qualified on.
i am questioning if they are telling the truth: http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/status/10076423768
we shall see.
What if they qualified on the "wrong" tyre for the race anticipating an accident as some circuits are more prone to that than others? Australia might be interesting for that ? Am quite happy to be told I'm talking nonsense but this whole using the tyre you qualified on could make for some interesting strategy calls
and lose a top 5 spot?
an interesting call - can't wait to see the reply
i disagree.. there are very few liveries i actually like this year.
Unless the other tyre is completely unusable for the race, I doubt any of the front-runners will give up position.
+1
i'd be amazed if bitly had overlooked something like that.
Same, but most of the ones I like are grey.
White just points out you're unsponsored. If you are in team colours it kind of hides it a bit.
I dont mind that no-ones got sponsors. I'd much prefer a decent scheme to one that hides the lack of sponsors
i kinda the Ferrari, Williams, Red Bull, and maybe the Mclaren... not sure about the others.
I know nothing about technology but would it be difficult to check for such issues across all languages before generating the link? Something innocent in one language can be appalling in another
what's not to like about grey? any color is great if used properly. and i think it was in the case of Hispania.
true. but you're only checking for swear words of 6 characters of less.
I agree on the latter point, it makes you look more professional IMO. Look at Arden in GP2 - they lost the Red Bull backing and could have turned up with a white car, but instead came in team livery. Brawn is unique because Hondas were white anyway and Brawn themselves had no team livery. Sauber is half-and-half.
I very much do mind that nobody has sponsors though.
I will always love Toro Rosso.
agreed.
and lose a top 5 spot? {Comment #435}
If everyone else is doing it, they lose nothing. And the potential benefit in perhaps cutting out a pitstop at a less convenient moment or having better-functioning tyres in the first phase of the race could be invaluable. After all a safety car restart at that point is a lot like having a second start.
why? as long as they dont pull out, does it matter?
maybe if they had nicer liveries companies would be slightly happier to sponsor them ;)
Our colours of the car (apart from '93) have always been determined by the main sponsors, so I can't say I'm too surprised there isn't a distinct colour.
Big if, though. Very slow backmarkers complicate issues further for those trying to make up places.
As a fan of one team who has exactly 1 sponsor, I am worried.
Did the Nestle deal fall through?
Hmmm...
I wonder what grey means psychologically....
i was the same to an extent with Brawn GP... but just because they have no sponsors it doesn't mean they have to pick the most boring colour and cover their car in it..
Must have. I'll have a look around.
they had millions and millions and squllions of honda's money to tide them over though.
+1 (Again)
i wonder how much of BMW's money is going into Sauber in the form of sponsorship money...
but it dosent mean they (horrible colour teams) need to give them grim liverys
true.
yeah i know, but that was only for the year right?... we didn't know what would happen in 2010 (thankfully ;) )
if Sauber win the WDC after BMW pull out i shall laugh alot
i found the brawn livery to be the worst on an f1 car since the earth car. i'm not a fan of the HRT either though.
:)
Big if, though. Very slow backmarkers complicate issues further for those trying to make up places. {Comment #455}
I don't see how that would be unless the backmarkers either stayed out (resulting in them being substantially slower in the next phase of the race), your team messes up its pit-stopping or the backmarkers got through the initial mess in front of the faster cars in the first place. The delta time ensures that the shape of the grid on Safety Car call-out determines the pattern of how they'll arrive in the pits and therefore (in theory, aside from team-mate stacking and errors in practise) how they'll get out of the pits and line up for the re-start. {
The earth car is brilliant.
Serves them right (except for Mario)
at what?
my poor team. However i loved it... as did Darren Heath (hehehehe) HRT isn't nice.. i'm not even a fan of the name.
I was actually thinking more lapping the backmarkers.
ah... but which one? the ra107 or ra108?
The ra108 was an improvement livery wise.
At earthing?
Why do I mind that people can't afford to race? erm..
Honda have been adamant they didn't regret pulling out even when Brawn won the title...
Originality.
agreed. the names on the nose, was a silly idea mind you.
ra107.
From http://www.colour-affects.co.uk/psychological-properties-of-colours
GREY.
Positive: Psychological neutrality.
Negative: Lack of confidence, dampness, depression, hibernation, lack of energy.
Pure grey is the only colour that has no direct psychological properties. It is, however, quite suppressive. A virtual absence of colour is depressing and when the world turns grey we are instinctively conditioned to draw in and prepare for hibernation. Unless the precise tone is right, grey has a dampening effect on other colours used with it. Heavy use of grey usually indicates a lack of confidence and fear of exposure.
Was the part I found most interesting
Anyway, must dash. Night folks. :)
yeah i'll agree with that.
Night Journeyer
See ya mate.
Can someone please explain why Sordo, Wilson and Block are still listed on the WRC stage times, albeit losing 5mins per stage? That's obviously a penalty so I take it they are hoping to return later?
Ditto...
yes tomorrow
Weirder and weirder...
Not sure what that's about....
RE-START AFTER RETIREMENT
45.1 GENERAL
45.1.1 A crew which has failed to complete a Day will be assumed to re-start the rally from the start of the next Day unless they confirm otherwise with the clerk of the course by completion of the form located in the rear of the road book and lodging it with the organiser as soon as possible before the stewards’ meeting preceding the re-start.
and
45.2 PENALTIES
For all crews which restart a time penalty will be applied.
This time penalty will be as follows:
For every stage or super special stage missed: 5 minutes.
Thanks Kathi...
That's great...
So I guess it's 5 mins added to the slowest time?....
Thanks Kathi :)
It's interesting... Wilson and Sordo have a flat 5 minutes, but Block has 5 minutes plus whatever difference there is between Petter Solberg and the stage winner.
right, i'm off for a bit.catch you all later xx
This time penalty will be added to the fastest time of the drivers’ priority group (P1, P2, P3) for each missed stage, which shall include the special stage or super special stage on which the crew has retired.
For non-priority drivers, this time penalty will be added to the fastest time achieved in its class by a non-priority driver.
http://www.fantasywrc.com/
RG and I have the same team and we're doing well after Day 1 :)
bye!
(hearts) Oggi.
But, we do have Sordo and Wilson.
See ya lou
Yeah we're gonna be hurting today.
Bye lou, I'm off too for a while, comment with you soon
almost everybody has Sordo so that's no biggie and Wilson is cheap. So you should still do very well.
I'll just take a shot of being in the top 10 for the first time ever.
Just spotted Heikki tweeting about the rally...
Bless...
Evening everyone!
Hello there lukeh
Hullo mr Rg. How is everyone?
It went quiet here. :-)
I've had a tremendously lazy day watching tweets, rally times and John Wayne, then felt guilty and like I was wasting away, so just did some laundry and packed away the last lot, and some washing up... also starting to put together a case for the holiday.
Is anyone else playing Wolf's game this year?
http://www.f1wolf.com/2010/02/2010-prediction-game-begins-the-drivers-champion-prediction.html
aww man, there are just too many!
I remembered yesterday, this seems to have a lot of competition.
it looked good last year, is sofaf1 happening this year?
I know what I'll be spending Thursday nights doing :)
Just reading back through some of the overnight comments. I am way behind today!
Lady Snowcat really does have some claws, doesn't she? Consider myself officially offended.
I guess not everyone likes Franck...
madness ;)
And yet we must all bow at the temple of Kimi.
Well I demand more Rubens, Christine! In fact, have you ever thought about changing the website to siderubenscast?
I have Bangers and Mash!!
Woo! My pizza has arrived :)
I'm having steak. Beat that. :P
I have penguins....
ahh I nearly had steak, but had it earlier in the week so decided to have sausages instead
Ooh whats the joke?
Purrlease don't take offence Christine...
I'll try to play nicer....
Where do penguins keep their money?
woot. sidepodhugs.
(we're still not renaming though, sorry lukeh)
go on...
Evidently not Iceland since the banks keep going under... ;)
Defrosting some mince. Deciding between bolognese and chilli. I nearly wrote 'blognese' :)
Can't blame a guy for trying :P
In a snow bank.
:)
Yay for penguin jokes!!
:D
They are definitely up there with jokes from chistmas crackers
I do tell everyone that I am completely bonkers...
Whereas you are always so rational...
I truly admire how even handed you are as I know I can't be!...every now and then I try but find it pretty much impossible.... a character weakness I know...
Actually if Franck were in F1 would you find it hard to be so even handed?... I bet you would still be nice about pretty much everyone....
Which is why you guys have made this so successful...
Now I have missed something... changes of name???....
I have an easy way of being even: I hate everybody equally. :)
Although some more equally than others.
Hehe, it's all a front :)
I would be totally biased, but probably still nice to the others as well. I'm annoying like that!
it's news to me!
And that's why you are Christine and I am a cat....
I'm having a productive afternoon: http://twitpic.com/16zuvt
Yay for purple socks :)
They're a little bit fluffy too.
#MrCHatesThem
Hello all, Christine's photo reminds me to tell you I now have a ball to sit on at home. My friends gave me a computer chair for my birthday and I bought a ball for the dressing table. I comes with a scary dvd about exercise but I just like sitting on it ;)
If I try to do anything other than sit, I fall off!
Now you have a ball, a podcast is the next logical step :)
 I've only just been brave enough to write a guest post, baby steps...
I have been spending birthday money this week. As well as my 1TB external hard drive and my ball I have bought Burning Rubber by Charles Jennings One of my resolutions was to read more F1 history so this is the next book I'm going to read. (Not too sure I'm doing very well on resolutions 1 & 2 though)
Evening :)
Hello Alison, how is your arm?
Hullo alison
Awww getting better thanks :)
ooh, don't know the writer. how come you picked that one?
yikes at number one! :)
howdy.
Am disappointed by Public Enemies :(
I'm still having ridiculous arm in the air baths though!!!
Oh no :( not for very much longer I hope
Another 4 days :(
Kimi did this to his C4 in Mexico
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovGj6vSMqa4
Evening all :)
(hearts) kimi!
God, rallying is awful!
^^ fixed
:)
Evening all
@Mr.C
F1 Timing app for Ipod Touch: Must have??
yeah, that line definitely needed fixing.
I don't think Kimi rolling is awesome, however, but Rallying itself is way awesome. DOOD!
Did you see the video posted earlier? It is all onboard and runs for 2 mins before the crash.
Ah good to have the external shot and the interview :)
well, we haven't actually bought it yet, but we will in the next few days, yup.
however, we'll be feeding information back into the live comments, for everyone else.
it's only 1 pound a race though.
The motors tv coverage of the swedish rally had a LOT of that footage. very cool. I'd rather watch the drivers drive than listen to the announcer yap his head off and be constantly switching around.
Thanks for your response.
At 26 Euro's for the year I want to be sure it's worth it.
will probably review it after the first race again. not sure if that's helpful though?
Can you try it out for one race?
last year yes. this year, i don't think so.
I'll probably buy the app.
Got an extra Itunes gift card when I bought my Ipod Touch.
if you do, let us know what you think of it.
Will do.
BTW this is my first step into the dark side (Apple) and I quite like it.
Does anyone know what "posterior pharyngeal space" (without looking on wiki) is?
I swear it's made up
there is no going back now :)
Sorry for the delayed response, just been plugging in the new hard drive & setting it up to backup my pc (does it sound like I know what I'm doing?)
If you search for Formula 1 on Waterstones it's the first book that comes up, I found it cheaper on Play.com. Having had a quick flick through it seems like a basic history which is what I need at the moment. Will review when I've read it.
Well, I'm much more positive about work now I'm leaving ;)
yup.
ooh,ace.
Yes actually
I did spend several years at medical school though.... Do you have a particular interest in it? I certainly don't
oh yes, of course you did!
no but im reading something my better half has written (she's a Speechie) and i understand very little of it
Christine just commented on the Mark Webber thread :
This has reminded me to say that I won't be able to donate as much to Sidepodcast in money terms when I stop working so I thought I'd contribute by transcribing. I see from the wiki there are a lot of episodes that need doing, can you let me know if there are any particular priority ones or shall I just start at the beginning?
Ah okay. Well yeah sorry, some people really do speak like that all the time!
its wierd. no-one should speak like that all the time
Janna, you are the nicest person in the whole world!
We tend to think the more recent ones are of a higher priority as they are more relevant information. Plus we're a bit better at the whole speaking thing now than we used to be so they might be easier!
I think I could almost pull it off. It takes practice though. They expect you to use certain patterns of speech....
seconded.
she means, don't go near the archives ;)
message received and understood
Evening all :)
hullo paul. how are ya?
Evening :D
True story. I even got arm-related sympathy!
Not to bad. Was back to working full time this week so all my free time seems to have vanished.
ahh yes. happens to the best of us :(
Greetings world
Hello Steven, how's things?
It has at least given me a good reason to go back and listen to season 4 of Midweek Motorsport though :)
Hi Steven
thats ALOT
Pretty good. Managed to see a football match for the first time in weeks without the weather causing it to be canceled. Even turned out to be a nice day.
That's last year's isn't it?
evening
hi
I see fantasy rallying has been updated today.
http://www.fantasywrc.com/
Not so happy with the current state of the rally though. I had 4 drivers in the top 8 yesterday and now two of them are 14th and 15th
http://www.wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=405&season=2010&rally_id=MEX&category=&stage=15
Yeah season 4 of Midweek Motorsport is indeed 2009.
Something like 50 episodes at 2 hours a pop. I know I'm behind too but that's mad :-)
I was just looking at that awhile ago. I'm top of the Sidepodcast league now and second overall :)
You overtook me. That wasn't nice.
I think it has Friday's scores but not today's.
Lol Well I need something to stop myself falling asleep at work, and I only just started listening this year.
Looks like tomorrow we'll get Loeb, Ogier, Solberg, Hirvonen and Jari Matti....
Unless there is a problemo or Petter can get his act together in which case he'll be second and Ogier third....
Hope that suits everyones fantasy teams...
Couldn't care what order regarding my FR, but hope Oggi gets second.
It is but they had not been updated last last night. I think I will be heading down the rankings after today's numbers are added in.
i have kimi! grrr.
They might be doing the scores now as they'll do the pre Super Specials i.e. at the point they decide on tomorrows running order....
Then you are lovely...
And deserve a special treat... I suggest you ask Christine for one...
I still have three of the top drivers in my team after today so it's looking pretty good. Apart from Sordo who's down to 14th
I've been out of the rally loop. What did Kimi do THIS time?
same as every time!
He rolled slightly. 6 times I think
I refer you to Scott's earlier comment:
He has been learning from the pros I see. I'd give him 9/10 for that one.
Drinking on the job again I see!
The pro's would have got that further down the mountain and had more body parts off. 10/10 for execution and enthusiasm though!
Plus they would of found a tree to hit as well!
Not too many trees in Mexico...
But that's what makes them pro's, they can always find a tree
Hmm doesn't look like I'm going to get to see the Grand-Am race...
It's horrid when you can see the timings stop and everyone else obviously continuing....
It reminded me of 2007 Monza practice.... it took ages after Kimi's time stopped for us to get the news...
Sort of happened similarly yesterday....
Actually scrap that. Grand-Am sports car race from Homestead
http://www.justin.tv/freddy49usa#r=DBhMsWc~
that live?
It is yeah :)
yes
COOL, AM WATCHING.
ooh, uppercase fail.
sorry!
No need to shout! :P
Someone's excited about the race.
oh my ears!
multi-task fail :(
Do you save all your uppercases up or something?
So you aren't just excited about watching the race then? :(
His quota has been fulfilled for 2010
Bit excitable tonight, are we?
Really can't get my head around no one showing Grand-Am on tv in Europe.
For anyone watching the Grand Am race there is a load of info at http://www.grand-am.com/ including live timing at http://grandam.racersites-cluster.com/OrbitsServer/grandam/TimingView.html?sid=740&VN=55332
have never watched it before.
I watched a chunk of the Daytona 24 the other week, otherwise I've not seen it before. These 'roval' courses do nothing for me though, and I'm not sold on the cars.
This years Daytona 24 hours was the first I've got to properly watch some of it. It's a series that would be alot easier for the European market to understand than Nascar or IndyCar, but no one shows its
If ALMS is on a 7 day delay then GrandAm doesn't stand a chance.
Very true, especially when Nascar owns Grand-Am
Well the "roval" courses are still greatly more exciting that ovals, at least in my opinion but they are still just half measures. As for the cars, I quite like them. They aren't as good as you will find in LMS, but your basically talking GT3 cars and a more basic prototype class.
I'm having a very slow day today, so I'm gonna sleep it off instead. Night all!
Night!
See ya.
Good actual Evening SPC.
Does anyone know what "posterior pharyngeal space" (without looking on wiki) is? {Comment #580}
The area immediately in front of the back of the pharynx (that's the space between the mouth and the throat).
Medical terminology class comes in useful sometimes...
Hey Adie
Evening :)
Good evening :) how are you?
very tired, and stressed about my interview, however i've had a nice evening so that's alright.
what about everyone else?
yay for a nice evening :)
I'm not too bad. Has been a relaxing evening, watched Public Enemies but it was rubbish...
you thought public enemies was rubbish?????
I didnt like it :(
fight the power
?
but... Johnny Depp!!
;)
:P
I just didnt like it. I blame Christian Bale.
I'm a feeling non-committal tonight. Can't stick with anything. I turned off the GrandAm race because I wasn't into it... so I'm picking up my F1 championship on Wii but its only China... now I'm installing lots of Google goodies to my phone
hmmmm...
I'm sitting here waiting for my pc to finish backing up to my external drive. It's the first time I've done it so it's taking ages. I have a lot of podcasts in my ITunes library it would appear :)
Starting issue 3 of the F1Weekender...
West Wingggggggggggg
:D
ahhh... sounds fun :D
Sky Sports News. Awesome.
ooh!! i haven't managed to take a look at issue 2 yet.. is there a link?
i never got into west wing. tbh i never watched it.. but it never appealed :(
It's a great way to spend a Saturday night. I've also started my first transcription for Sidepodcast. I'm working on Debrief 132. It's odd listening to it at half speed but even then I can't type fast enough #schooltaughtmelatinnottyping
It's not the type of thing that I would have wanted to get into before i did, but you jsut gotta start from the beginning and watch it. Everyone i know who's started has loved it, its just like Friends to me, which im totally getting into at the moment!
I just spent quite a considerable amount of time trying to work out what latinno typing is....
latin *shudders*
ahhh.. the life of a student :)
 Sadly I'm so old I pre-date computers in schools. At my school they decided it was more important we learnt Latin and Greek rather than useful things like typing and cooking.

Hmm...I think I've fixed it.
Screwed the front page though...will need to look at that...
Thanks for letting me know.
Ooh, I spose I'd better write a daily.
You have 2 minutes!
Anyone mind testing links for me please?...Ithink I could view the old page as it was set to private and I was logged in to WP...
