Friday has reached us at last, and I know I'm not the only one who is glad Thursday is over. From the very beginning when I thought it was still February, everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong. But never mind, we're on to another (hopefully better) day and here are some things we're talking about:
- The very badly named HRT team dominated headlines yesterday as they launched a new car and confirmed another driver. With a full line up now of Senna and Chandhok, they're gearing up for the season to begin and team principal Colin Kolles is still suggesting they could be the most successful of the new teams. I'm not sure about that, they haven't had a minute out on track.
- It looks as though we might be getting another of those pre-season controversies, with Red Bull "asking the question" about the McLaren's rear wing. This brings back so many bad memories of the diffuser issues before the 2009 season got underway, and through the first few races. Let's hope they can sort this out before it gets anywhere near overshadowing the action.
- Renault will be running some Lada branding on their car this year, as the manufacturer get on board sponsoring both the team and Vitaly Petrov. Presumably they don't mind the horrible red mirrors, then. The name looks good on the car, although I can't decide if that's just because it's nice to see sponsorship rather than empty chassis'.
That's all for now, let us know what you've got planned for the weekend, and I will see you in the comments.
Hello Friday, hello all
Hello :)
Sad to report a Tesco FAIL tonight
Stopped off especially for the highly recommended Green & Black's Ice Cream to find a rather small selection and no G&B in sight
Still, the Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake flavour is still quite tasty
:( :( :(
Also, their Mex Chilli Cheddar is no where near as gorgeous as the Somerset Afterburn we had last week [though that's not a surprise]
Hi
I think I've discovered a problem with Bruno Senna....
He has a hat stuck to his head and he can't get it off.....
That stupid Blue hat has been on his head since British Formula 3 many years ago!! Suit + Blue Hat = HA
It would appear that Sainsbury's do stock it, though am guessing it's not on offer [It is, however, about 3mins away - next time!]
His uncle had the same problem. Niki Lauda has a lot to answer for.
Your Uncle blames Niki Lauda?
Surely this can't be right
http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/2010/02/27/mclaren-developments-snorkel-rumour/
Maybe he has a bald spot forming?
not a bad shout
Niki Lauda was the first one to wear a cap permanently after his accident. Pretty soon it had a Parmalat logo on it and at one time they were supposedly donating him $1 million a year for the privelege. Ayrton Senna regulalry wore a blue cap with Nacional on it.
And your Uncle?
No-one ever paid him $1 million for wearing a hat so he never wore one.
Very often in fact. I have several posters with him in that cap in my shop.
Ah, sorry. Don't know why I saw 'my uncle' instead of 'his'
I get it now. Doh!
Like Schumacher's Deutsche Post one
I read that the other day
It's an interesting theory but the whole driver's leg altering airflow seems a bit too woolly for my liking
Fudge getting in your eye?
he's tied it to this story too:
http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/2010/03/04/blown-rear-wings-seperating-and-stalling/
"The difficulty in getting this tuning to work is what’s given rise to the rumour about the driver operated snorkel duct on the McLaren."
It would work but I can't imagine it would be comfortable for the driver and is bound to lead to cramp late in the race. Surely much easier to do the James Hunt thing and carry a cloth in the car. Then stuff it in the slot at the start of the straight and pull it out at the end.
tell us more?
Obviously, or chilli cheese :)
I don't doubt that, I just think to be an effective difference it'd take more than positioning a knee near an inlet or duct
James Hunt when commentating used to go on at length about how stupid drivers were for not keeping a cloth between their legs. Every time someone had something on their visor he would tell the same story about how he always kept a damp cloth between his legs to clean his visor. So to save valves or soft tubes or driver gymnastics stick the damp cloth in the hole.
Isn't that what the tear off strips are for?
jenson and JLS?
JLS and Formula 1 racer Jenson Button have filmed an advert for Walkers Crisps together.
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/news/a206712/jls-button-team-up-on-walkers-advert.html
ahh, got ya.
Jenson and crisps?
Not the healthy dietary choice of a sportstar at his peak fitness is it?
Not if the wing is set right. Thisnk of the hole and everything that goes with it as an aerodynamic turbocharger. The wing or at least the part the turbo feeds is stalled without the turbo. ie if you have no snorkel and drive round that part of the wing won't work. Add the turbo and the extra airflow it supplies is enough to keep the airflow attached and generate downforce (and drag). Shut the turbo off on the straight and you have a stalled wing with minimum drag.
Button also had the Button Biscuits at the Japanese Grand Prix last year.
The principle is sound, it's the knee/cockpit part that I'm not liking
We need spy pics!
Yes but you can only wear a few of those and in the 70s cars spewed oil all the time and tracks were not the modern polished surface and many were overhung with trees and the like so unless they had 20 tear offs they had to try to clean the visor during many races.
Gotcha, makes sense.
"Two planes take off at the same exact moment. They are flying across the Atlantic. One leaves New York and is flying to Paris at 500 miles per hour. The other leaves Paris and is flying to New York at just 450 miles per hour. Which one will be closer to Paris when they meet?"
but... JLS??
It would be interesting to see how they plan to achieve it.
The one Schumacher is flying because he cheated
Damn Rory Byrne...
The Paris departure will be stuck in Spanish or French Air Traffic Control industrial action and will be waylaid en route, so, that one! ;)
15mins of fame and the kids like 'em
Walkers are cashing in
:)
it says to me, button isn't quite famous enough.
Do you mean Airspeed and what are the wind conditions?
[Assuming the route to be the same, only in reverse]
This is like a Monty Python question involving swallows :D
Well that just wouldn't be true would it? I thought they rarely flew the same flight plan there and back?
Read it again. "Which one will be closer to Paris when they meet"
Trick question. mwahah
So many variables
I think the important part is when they meet. ie are in the same place
I'm confused about what you mean?
I think both go over the north pole or close to that route. The plane flying from NY to Paris has advantage because of the earths rotation, it's spinning in it's favor.
I refer you too my first answer. The one Schumacher is in cos he cheated
When they meet, they will be in the same position and of equal distance to Paris
Gah... Thats what you get when you overthink...
^^ what he said
wouldn't that equal a crash? neither are close to paris, they explode into a billion pieces/
totally
:D
was another answer i was hoping for :D
It wont matter when they meet, because they'll be a huge international crisis
The N. Atlantic routes do fly closer to the ploe than a point to point line on a map would indicate [it's shorter] but I'm not sure the Earth's rotation will affect them
Yeah that's what I thought. Depends which bits float furthest that way....
...and a new series of lost?
When two people meet that don't necessarily collide
oh my. i wish i'd never asked :D
You try flying at 500mph towards something and then stopping without falling out the sky ;)
It kinda does when you're talking about vehicles though!
So which one did the closest piece to Paris come from?
Nooooo, I don't want to dedicate another 6 years with no answers! :)
Why would the earths rotation not affect it? Is airspeed calculated in with the earths rotation (I'm not sure myself, I'm scared of flying anyway)? If not, the earth spinning would greatly affect the ability to cut time from NY to Paris and stack time going the opposite direction.
ps #sentencefail
Much shorter series due to near instant hypothermia
Flying on the same route in the opposite direction they'll be at different Flight Levels [altitude]
At least a thousand feet, probably double that
:)
Like titanic with less ice
No, is the simple answer
when two planes "meet", it isn't usually for coffee.
Oh yeah of course, but I wouldn't call that meeting...
#isplayingdevilsadvocate
They ar never going to meet then unless it is vertically.
Jetstream would though
Yeah, ok. I'm having a bad sentence structure week
It's very concerning!!
Indeed
I'm curious to know if it's better or worse after a Late Shift rather than Earlies :)
How does jetstream affect time? 500 mph is 500 mph. Now if were talking the planes using a certain level of thrust instead of laying down the direct airspeed of both, a jetstream would be an advantage.
Again, I know little of flight.
Simple put [I think]
Airspeed can be 500mph but a head wind of 100mph [in the opposite direction] gives you a ground speed of 400mph
*Simply put
grrrrrr
:D
Which begs the question, how is airspeed calculated? Don't aircraft these days just use gps in figuring airspeed?
The Jetsream will affect the local conditions which will affect the relative speed of the aircraft [head or tail wind]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airspeed
Reading that right now in fact for curiosity's sake.
My arm is still sore
Did you shift gears yesterday?
Hah yes thanks. No crashing for me.
It's probably 18 years since I studied Theory of Flight, am quite rusty
:(
I am a great believer in making things as simple as possible. Imagine you are walking through an airport at 5mph. Beside you there is a moving wakway also travelling at 5 mph with someone standing on it. If he was a plane effectively he has a 5 mph tail wind. His airspeed (in relation to the walkway) is zero but his ground speed(in relaltion to the floor around the walk way) is 5 mph. If he walks at 5 mph his airspeed is 5 mph but his ground speed is 10 mph. In effect he is covering ground twice as fast as he is walking because the walkway (or air if he was a plane) is doing half the work
Have I killed the conversation?
I'm just mourning the loss of a functional limb....
At least the echo still works
What have you done to it?
Well put.
The circumference of the earth is around 25000 miles. Since the earth does one rotation every 24 hrs, the affect would be a bit overr 1000 mph. Since a commercial plane cant fly 1500mph, I guess the rotation wont have anything to do with the flight other than atmospheric pressure and wind currents.
The doctor cut it :( I'm sure she was trying to help but now it's sore.
Earths rotation isn't factored into physics questions involving point to point speed either when some object takes flight. Gravity but not earths rotation.
Rotation has no effect unless you want to leave the atmosphere and head into space. Then it is much better to launch as near as possible to the equator but that is a whole different set of calculations and still won't tell us which one is nearer Paris when they meet
How weird
Typed a response from my phone whilst I was in the kitchen
They'll both be and equal distance. I was merely doing some thought wandering as to which would make it to their destination quicker.
Is he a witch doctor? Bleeding people went out of fashion a long time ago. Now doctors when they don't know what is wrong with you mess with your head instead
I am going to bed. I am tired. I am reading a thick book that is both out of date and of no interest to me. I am talking in short sentances. I spelt sentence wrong.
Goodnight.
*waves*
I'm sure I asked her to do it. I want sympathy really. Nick just wanted to laugh.....
It's so annoying. I can't have a shower for 5 days because I can't get my arm wet. I've been reduced to ridiculous arm-in-the-air bathing....
Concorde reached that or thereabouts
Though that's obviously now retired
I can't remember which way the jetstream works but assuming Jon's original question contained ground speeds rather than air speed the one leaving Paris was going 50mph slower so would take 10%ish longer to get to its destination
Goodnight
And Nick isn't there to scrub your back. How inconsiderate of him
But as we established, once they met, they would both be the same distance from Paris....you over-complicator-you
;)
Aside from the fact that a point on the Earth's surface isn't in the same position it was an hour ago
West to east.
BOOOOOO to people who retired Concorde.
You are supposed to be in bed
See ya Jon
You sure started something with this plane business! ;)
I regret it
ALOT
No waterproof dressing covers?
My belief has always been that planes can't fly. They over until the appropriate piece of the planet is under them.
Apparently not. She just said to stay well away from water with it....
Dont tell Bernoulli that =P
Don't fly from Paris to New York then cos those planes keep crashing. And you don't want to be in a plane crash because your arm will get wet
Well, there's a few theories to that one
It could be the one's responsible for the Air France accident. Continental, I think, are to blame for debris on the runway
Or, the original manufcturers, BAe & Aerospatiale who no longer wanted to support it
Or some amateur pilots with naughty ideas on a chilling day one September
:D
?!
9/11
Wasn't the aircraft just asininely expensive to run too?
How many plane types go decades before there first accident?
It was way out of date so I can see there difficulty
That is a new one on me. Never heard this version before
Yes, but it was also obscenely expensive to fly on
For BA, it made an operating profit, not to mention the PR and cache of a unique flagship
ahh, totally threw me.
Good advice!
The downturn after 9/11 nearly stopped it in it's tracks. The market didn't really recover enough to recoup the amount of money spent on Kevlar Fuel Tank Liner modifications for the fleet
Can't have a few plane loads of rich people blown up when a few plane loads of plebs are available?
Was it feasible to run? The US govt shut down another aviation engineering masterpiece, the Blackbird, because it just made little sense to keep flying the plane.
My first thought when I read your comment was a repeat of the Paris airshow Concordski but then I realised the accidents were totally different
I think the Air France hull that was lost was a charter flight with once in a lifetime holidaymakers onboard, mostly
As I said, BA turned a tidy [though relatively small] profit
The Blackbird didn't have rich squillionaires queueing up to fly on it
Supposedly, French Air Force jets flying nearby
Right, I was just talking about practicality of the plane.
I had a chance to see one up close a while back as it's in the Smithsonian Air and Space museum, and I had no idea how big they were.
Also, military spending never 'makes sense'
It runs on paranoia
One, meaning Concorde. I guess one meaning Blackbird too, as they have one there also.
Tell me about it. They're talking about shutting down the F22. They just put that plane into service a while back =/
I flew on the Concorde on it's last journey to Boeing's Museum of Flight at Everett, Seattle
hi all. ITS BACKSTREET DAY! :D
ALRIGHT!!
I saw an investigation program into the accident. The airshow rules said that there was a box that no-one but whoever was showing at that time could enter for a fixed period. Nothing was allowed to take off for a certain time before the show period. They proved that one or two Frenech Air Force planes took off later than they should have and were seen in the box when the Concordski was in the air. The hypothesis was that as the Concordski pulled its nose up as high as it could the pilot spotted the fighter in the cloud and tried to manouvre away but was right on the limit of the plane's capacity at the time so it stalled and fell.
Sweet. The coolest plane I got to ride in was an AC130, and I was scared to death the whole time because I'm terrified of heights =(
Hi Amy. What?
Don't start! :D
Are you going on the Backstreet cruis with Christine?
At 60,000 there's not much concept of height
Though the Earth's curvature looks cool. Space above, sky below
Thats pretty sweet. Reminds me of that James May special when he went into the U2.
Who knew Bono could go that high?
You gotta be that high to wear those sunglasses he's been rocking forever =P
They're playing Melbourne today?
no, the melbourne show is tonight.
So tonight isn't today anymore?
No, has to do with the earths rotation.
Is tonight now tomorrow?
Did I miss a memo again?
As long as it's not swallows, I'm good
My cat is hiding in a shopping bag I brought home yesterday and grunting. What a wacko...
:)
Is it stalking you?
Did anyone hear the Lewis Hamilton interview on R5?
Maybe. It might be her kitty ghille suit.
No
they talked football.
That's a waste isn't it?
your tonight is my tomorrow
i guess it was delayed. i got bored and turned off. 5livef1 weren't happy.
So I gather, am catching up on tweets
Is that today or tomorrow?
I half heard it. It happened to be playing in my parents' kitchen when I went over there.
Either way, they're playing Friday night, yes? :)
yes :D
Pretty much.
Yes, were here with a F1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton. Lewis, how do you feel about Inter Milan leading Serie A?
this has to be watched...

Is @FakeChandok Mr Bean?
Stop being sore stupid arm! I can't sleep. The way my arm naturally sits means there's pressing on the sore bit.
Can you put something under your armpit so your arm doesn't rest on your side?
I'm gonna try raising my elbow I think.
You need one of those inflatable things to take the pressure off. Also useful when the plane crashes
Bassano is the man to ask about elbow raising
K folks, the earths rotation is making me sleeping so I have to crash out. Take care
Good night Alison and Jim
I'm sure I don't know what you mean!
See ya Jim
I'm off too, that blog post took far too long to write, I was supposed to be going to bed an hour ago.
Night Pat
G'night Sir
I would say good evening everyone but it looks as though everyone is going to bed.
Still a few of us up and Amy just woke up.
No, there's enough of us here
excellent
How are things in your part of the world?
Quite nice, great weather and tomorrow off of work :)
I only remembered yesterday that I have the weekend booked off, a friend is over from Ireland so it's an 'old gang' meet-up in Windsor on Saturday
Sunday is for recovery and pub lunch!
Nice, not sure what I will do here, much relaxing I think.

cool!
Morning everyone :)
hello again.
I think I have worked out how to stop wordpress from being hackable in a way which would work for me. But I am still very wary what with everything you've said and now my own experience there. (I could lock down access to wp-admin to a couple of static ips)
I don't even know if I could do go for odd with the encapsulation and so on on the hosted wordpress to make the podcast feed?
All I know is that I suddenly have a lot of work to do :(
Awww sorry :(
Morning folks. I've woken up naturally at this ridiculous hour of the morning.
that could work.
you could host the podcast somewhere like libsyn.com. that would give you an rss feed etc. more money though.
same reason i'm still up at 6am :(
What I hate is that if you want to make it look nice and professional you want to have it all under one roof and under one domain. It always feels to me like the equivalent of having a .wordpress.com or a .blogspot.com
As you've been proving for the last year the most frustrating part of it is that it takes away from the time you can spend on other creative activity.
Yay... Friday and stuff!!
exactly. we can't do live shows because there's no time to sort that, and keep the site moving forward etc. fun times.
email if there's anything we can help with, i must sleep (briefly).
hi... and bye ;)
cheers mate. Have a good sleep.
i have had backstreet beers. Now waiting for a backstreet train to backstreet dinner then backstreet concert. Very excited and slightly drunk.
Oh dear. I have been invited to dinner and to "help buy a computer".
Yikes
Shouldn't you take a taxi so you can take the backstreets? :D
Hope it's great.
Wow. HRT have no sponsors. I wonder which car will be the most devoid of stickers in Bahrain?
Morning all.
Morning
I'm in the Capital this morning. Just outside the congestion zone. Shattered
This one's for Lukeh: http://www.myextralife.com/comic/comic-rated-m-for-mature/
Hello one and all.
Nothing from Amy for a couple of hours. I was hoping she might live comment the concert :)
hello
Morning :)
How is everyone's Friday going?
not quickly enough! :-D
this time next week, we'll have already had FP1
how's your day?
Morning :)
Have you had a Friday fun suggestion?
Oooh, no, I'd forgotten!
Mm, even though I am dead set against countdowns and what have you, I am almost looking forward to it :)
almost? :-D
I don't wanna go overboard :)
Aaaargh. Today is not off to a good start. For once I actually felt like some breakfast. Was gonna have some cereal but my milk is MIA....
you need to go overboard, if you start low key how are you going to get beyond the European GP?
You raise a good point.
Save that for the Backstreet Boat
Has another copy of my book absorbed it?
Awwww :( Sorry!
Ha. I'd push everyone else overboard 'cept for Amy.
It's OK - got my gear for skiing sorted, had some croissants and the usual meetings. How about you - did the cold go away?
Didn't you just go skiing recently? Or were you planning this?
And my cold? It never developed, but I am still fighting off the sore throat. It's turned a bit tickly now which is annoying, but I'm counting my lucky stars.
I'm pretty sure it was the orange juice that saved the day.
Morning.
We're within the normal gap between races! I wasn't going to watch FP1 and 2 this year but for Bahrain I just have to, albeit I'm frustrated I can't do so live.
Getting annoyed with Hotmail now. Much more spam getting through than before. I've had that as my main a/c since 1999 and I think it is time to ditch it.
It's not quite crazy o'clock but close enough.
I'm at work.
I did - remember it's only a 1 hour drive to Sweden so we do it as a day trip.
Because my mate from Trinidad is involved, the planning goes like this:
"Hey, we going Skiiing this weekend?" "Cool"
Hopefully this guy is coming down to Spa with me but for various reasons, won't let me plan the trip yet...
Awesome. The powers of OJ are legendary ;)
Aww, if it's the only one you're going to watch all year, you should take the day off!
Don't - get a Gmail account and auto-forward the hotmails to it. It's like having an outer wall of defence ;)
A day trip skiing is bizarre to me. Fun though, you'll be an expert soon. Winter Olympics 2014?
I am convinced I could easily represent either the UK, NZ or Denmark considering how poorly they all did at the Olympics in Skiing ;)
The funny bit is when 4-year olds are out skiing you all - makes you feel just a little silly ;)
That's very Rosberg of you :)
No way - my hair would never look as lovely as his does!
I could but I shouldn't really, I'm going away for a week on the following Wednesday.
That's a good question... I've not seen nearly so much advertising on the BBC this time around
in fact, I've not seen any advertising
No car chase? Maybe the budget has been cut. I never got a response from Jake about Ted, can anyone confirm he is still in the pits this year?
Oooh, that gives me an idea.
Here we go: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/05/friday-fun-selling-f1/
I'm not an expert but I doubt driving a rally one week after you had back surgery is a good idea. #sillyFinn
There's no 'almost' with Jake
Love the story about his brother...
I like to think I'm an expert :p and it's not. My shoulders used to hurt afterwards from the harness

I've just been asked an interesting question via FR.
Description : Why is Nick Heidfeld not listed as a driver for BMW Sauber?
Because he isn't one?
I mean you obviously know htat but why don't they? :)
I've just been asked an interesting question via FR.
Description : Why is Nick Heidfeld not listed as a driver for BMW Sauber? {Comment #287}
I haven't seen any reserve drivers listed, so Nick, being in that category, wouldn't have been listed either.
I mean you obviously know htat but why don't they? :) {Comment #289}
Because the FIA doesn't have to assign reserves a number or count them in things like the four-driver regulation. From an administrative perspective, reserve drivers are only of interest to them for the purposes of total employee headcount (in the resource restriction), for CRB purposes and for whether they have a Superlicence. So the FIA just doesn't care about them quite as much as they do the race drivers.
Maybe it was a question intended for the team principal? I'll forward it on, just in case :)
:)

Friday can't go quickly enough for me either - I can't wait until LMS testing starts on Sunday. My patience was not helped by my brain thinking it started today, me tuning in to Le Mans Radio and then wondering why they were talking about the ALMS instead...

Is that the 2012 chassis design? :D
Are the DTM races at the same weekends as F1?
No - apparently they are on alternate weeks...
They deliberately avoid it. I think because Norbert likes going to all of them. :)

OH MY WORD.
Amy!!! Tell me everything.
Hello Amy :)
THAT WAS AMAZING. Of all the shows I have ever been to I have never seen a crowd get so into it. Everyone was up dancing the whole time. My friend who I went with wasn't keen but she was quickly singing along and yelling and clapping. She said you can't deny that they are cheesy dancers but they are fantastic entertainers and put on a great show. I took a little clip of video from each song and some photos that didn't really turn out because I forgot to charge the batterys on my super zoomy camera so I had to use the other one :(
Woooooohoo! They weren't too crazy then?
oh there was a lot of screaming, especially everytime Nick sung, but it just felt right :D Here are some backstreet boys. Here is me partaking in the backstreet boys (as seen at the bottom right of the stage). I appear to not be looking at the camera. I think I was still drunk.
If you pick your favourite song from here I can upload some video :D
My only real complaint was they finished the show with I Want It That Way which got the place really pumping but then they did Straight Through My Heart as the encore and lots of people were standing there like 'oh I don't know this one' and it killed the mood a bit at the end.
Woohoo! Backstreet love x
I think I know what episode that is for. *zips up mouth*
oh oh oh and in the row in front of me there was a man of at least 50 who knew ALL the words to ALL the new songs. He was there with his wife and she looked bored out of her mind whereas he was LOVING it. I decided he was an awesome man.
*gasps* You know stuff!
it's such a contrast...
USF1 have plans to enter F1 long before the FIA think it's a good idea and still can't build a car
Lotus get a few months notice, build and test a car and still have time to be playing pinball
You had a great view!
I can't believe they don't sing Panic. All the footage I've seen of the Unbreakable tour, the crowd go mental for it.
I read spoilers. I can't help myself.
They played nothing off that album at all :(
They didn't have big screens so I was pleased to be at the side not the back. As it was, from where we were sitting we couldn't tell if AJ had totally shaved his head or just bleached his hair.
Lotus are my new favourites. Sorry Virgin.
Okay, i just nodded off at work... I don't think anyone noticed!
you really love that job dont you :P
ooooh!
Mexico Rally has started :)
Morning folks, whats the good word?
Hey - having a good day, even though I had a bit of a scare earlier...
Oh yea, do tell?
My pics on the wall may have accidentally got into an official photo. Apparently it's no problem though. I took them down out of respect anyway...
And besides, my colleague gave me a Mozart Chocolate Ball for helping her, so it's all good :D
Dunno what that is but it sounds awesome!
Chocolate with more chocolate and Marizpan inside :D
here is a video of some of what I like to call the official sidepodcast theme tune ;)
Nice! I wonder if they have that or something like that here in the states...
I am sure they do - whereabouts are you? I see loads of TV programmes from the Food Channel about gourmet chocolate in the states...
Petter Solberg quickest through SS1 almost 10s faster than the second Ogier. Kimi was 9th 40s behind
oh...
40 seconds?
Washington DC.
Has Block run yet?
Shouldn't be a problem then ;)
That's not bad, depending on the length of the stage...
He's in the stage at the moment. His last two splits were quicker than Kimi's
That'd be nice. Unfortunately they dont have one of my favorite things I used to get when I lived in Germany: Milchschnitte.
about 15s too slow for his road position and car
NOOOO!!!!!!
wow :)
He is through 9th 2.6s quicker than Kimi
Go Petter!
*weeps for FR team*
:)
Raikkonen needs an extra dose of sisu.
oh dear
He hit a rock :(
Bad damage that'll cause delays in transit between stages?
Don't think so. He got through the stage after all
ooh I have caught up on comments from while I was out. Sorry for not live commenting, I would have loved to but my phone died as soon as I got there.
Fair enough. Just didn't know if he was leaking fluids.
As long as you enjoyed it, that's all that matters...
I would like to go back :D Perhaps I should investigate the price of flights to Sydney....(note: I will not actually be investigating the price of flights to Sydney)
How many stages until the next service?
3 :(
A pit wall thingy: http://twitpic.com/16qp7p
I so want one of those for my folks at my next HPDE event.
2 of my colleagues may be joining Panda Racing ;)
Christine, have you seen this? http://www.creativeadawards.com/traffic-accident/
Don't worry, I think there's a green screen involved!
oh no, I wasn't expecting that many!
WHAT!?
officially named "prat perch"
Did Eddie Jordan invent that? ;)
Who hit the rock, Kimi?
Still quite a ways to go...
It's rather odd, isn't it?
?
ooh, panda.
but not since flavio quit.
:D
ss2: Kimi stopped on the stage :(
DOH!
:-(
Hopefully he's just checking it...
ss3 has started and he is still stuck somewhere between split 1 and 2 of 6 on ss2.
Block did well: 8th
How'd Petter do?
first on ss2 again, hasn't started ss3 yet
Ogier was second, Loeb third
Woo!
Hey all.
But he does have a better start position, right? So he's got a cleaner road.
there's nothing woo about that!
hey :)
I've adopted Ogier as my WRC driver to follow, so 2nd should be wooed at...
yes.
Also the Citroens seem all a bit quicker than the Fords.
Kimi is moving again
Interesting..
I was wondering if the tactics would come in yet where they try and get a lower order position for tomorrow..
i know. but kimi!
They are loosing too much time for it to be strategy. Mikko is already 20s behind Loeb
My drivers are currently 1-2-3-6. So far so good. :D
Ford needed to be quick on the gravel because they've effectively focused on this and given up the tarmac to the Citroens.
That said, it's good that Petter is competitive - may mean Loeb won't have it all his own way.
That's a surprise
Petter is in a Citroen ...
WOW
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81866
Force India has announced that director of business affairs Ian Phillips will leave the team after 19 years with the Silverstone-based squad.
The fords were having some cooling problems yesterday after running through some water.
Looks like Mr Mallya never really forgave him after what happened last year.
Hello, BTW. :)
+36 over all =(
Exactly. Citroen is no longer just Team Loeb.
that still amuses me!
if you say so
Isn't Petter in a 2009 spec Citroen?
wonder how much he cost the team?
you don't sound convinced...
in terms of?
is he? if so, it makes the current situation even more impressive.
money.
i agree with Kathi. it's still team Loeb, maybe not as much, but it still is
I'm not sure, I thought he was, but can't quickly find anything on the internet about it and I really should be working ;)
#isstupidandslow
how do you mean?
He's also driving a C4
Hirvonen is out of sorts so far - 54 seconds down, and we're not even done with Day 1 yet...
that's a 2009 spec.
So yes, even more impressive!
ALthough I'd still like to see him in a Subaru!
*we're not even past the morning of Day 1 yet
so ian talking out loud, confirmed fif1 were interested in letting fissi go. ferrrari (who were screwed at the time) then didn't have to offer quite so much.
This is very odd, though - Solberg and Ogier ahead of all the key players - what gives?
oooooh ok. i gotcha now.
yeah maybe
i would suggest on this evidence... rather a lot.
The order in which they run the stages plays a big role here. Mikko is first on the stages and he clears the road from dust and some gravel making the stage quicker for the driver after him. So Petter and Ogier have ideal conditions while Mikko and Loeb to some extend suffer
it is. Something must be seriously wrong with the factory fords.
True, but even so, it's rare for two non-team-leaders to be leading the way in a dry rally, no matter which point of the weekend.
Even if Loeb can claw back some of that time in the afternoon, 26 seconds is quite a bit of a gap to make up.
From Mr C (the other one)
http://tinyurl.com/yfjtwsy
Let's see what it looks like tomorrow night after Petter had to sweep the stage for a whole day
cheers
and from joe:
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/03/05/phillips-leaves-force-india/
When Vijay Mallya arrived in the team, Phillips played his usual role but the Indian team owner was upset when some media turned to Phillips rather than listening to Mallya himself.
that's a different take. interesting.
If this is true, there seems to be a bit of a trend with Mallya really being hands-on with the team. First Kolles and Gascoyne, then Phillips were sent packing. Let's see if it has any impact on their performance...
Kimi 7th on ss3, 15s than Block who was 10th
What time monitoring site are you using? The WRC site is slow at updating.
I use the WRC site too. They said Kimi's time on the radio.
leo sayer says it'll be like nascar in bahrain:
"The teams who’ve had no testing will be using the first few races as a test session anyway, with frequent pit stops to adjust wings, roll bar, hydraulics, balance weights etc"
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/03/04/the-hispania-cosworth-f1-car-first-pictures/#comment-12848
That's amazing...
I was in mourning as my blackberry only picked up that he hadn't finished SS2...
Now I am home and eating cake and whoopee he's back and doing well in a stage...
He did say two of the stages would be goodish and SS3 was one of them...
His career with FIF1 has been on life support since he said on the Beeb that Fisi was going to Ferrari before Vijay had a chance to opine...
Hi everyone.
Ok folks, time to drive back to DC. Take care.
Bye Jim, Hi Lukeh
ss4 (1,5 km)
1. Ogier, 2. Loeb, 3. Solberg, 4. Sordo, 5. Kimi
Yaaay.
Hey Lukeh, seeya Jim
@f1scoop is now plugging an evening with joe:
http://twitter.com/f1scoop/status/10032084307
quite the turnaround from bitching about his toyota ;)
i wonder why... do you know something i don't? :P
nope, nothing.
if i had to guess, i would say that stuart suggesting he knew who was behind the tweets, has made scoopy a little more... friendly. but i knows nothing.
interesting thought there. :)
anyway, apologies for being a bit quiet tonight. tiring but fun day just past. off to bed for me. night folks!
i guess he hopes we won't hold history against him (i will).
night sir.
Byeee
i've had a tiring day... it's hard work running frozen department by yourself in a supermarket on the busiest shopping day of the week :(
character building?
I prefer character tired-ning :P
If that's even a word...
Kimi on the same time as Sordo so =4th...
On WDC they sometimes show Kimi in front.....
I can see this will be another curse of the 2nd stage event....
Solberg is certainly kicking some booty!
Of course, I'm GUESSING the Solberg in question is Petter and not Henning.
World Rally Radio is on...
Hello all, how are we today?
Still laughing at your Friday Fun entry ;)
Hey janna.
Hoopla
home home home home, home home home home...
Kimi's car is in service to fix his wonky steering...
No nasty comments please....
Ill. booo. thats ill by the way, stupid I being the same as l
Awww, what's wrong?
Hello Janna and Leigh
feeling generally veery rough at the moment, been very busy and have now stopped so its all catching up....todays symptoms are monster sore throat and feeling ergh. boo
Oh dear. It doesn't taste nice but Honey & Vinegar is very good for sore throats, 2 teaspoons of honey, one of vinegar in a mug of hot water
Good evening young RG
*waves*
Only in Ireland.......
http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/Limerick-man-sentenced-to-four.6128348.jp
Sometimes I worry about homeland
Weirdness going on with WRC live timing...
Splits coming up but no finals for SS5...
Kimi not gone yet...
The Fords are struggling a bit...
I'll leave you in Lady's capable hands. Good night everyone :)
Nigh Kathi
Evening all
Evening Steven
Bye Kathi, Hello Steven
Interesting to see Ian Philips is leaving FIF1. Wonder if this means he is going to do more radio for the BBC.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81866
Night Kathi...
Sorry to see you go...
Certainly Petter's day...
Fastest again in SS5 so far...
Looks like he'll be track sweeping tomorrow at this rate....
That should slow him down a bit
Mr Block expected in in a mo....
Kimi started SS5....
Holding my breath....
That was an odd experience. Just did my shopping on line. The local Tesco has recently been knocked down & they built a new, larger store at the other end of the car park. Now they are telling me that everything in the store is "New!", including semi-skimmed milk, I'm sure they stocked that before ;)
Good evening. I've been perusing the latest Autosport while listening to 6Music (thought I'd show it some love - Lamacq has still got it hasn't he?). Christine and Mr C may like to turn to page 38 where Edd Straw has a feature on the subject of fuel with lots of pics from Shell, though the quotes are from ExxonMobil. Just the 8 months after you. :)
I Was in Sainsburys earlier and found you could buy milk in a bag! A plastic sealed bag instead of a carton or bottle!! how wierd is that!
I saw that. Plagiarism. Outrageous plagiarism. Add to that the president of the Schumacher fan club writing Mark Hughes's column
It's Christmas again? :)
they'll be off to mark webber's pub for a pizza next ;)
next they'll be called themselves TESCO.
5live said he won't be in the paddock, stuart thinks he miht be working with eddie and joe says he'd be useful to plenty of teams.
i'd just be happy if he doesn't vanish.
:)
Ferrari will employ him to interrupt radio communications
Not too bad on SS5 for Kimi...
Faster than Villagra, BLOCK and even...
Wilson...
So he'll be 8th and that stage on that basis...
The earlier problem on SS2 was a fuel pump that stopped working... Kimi and Kaj turned mechanic and sorted out the faulty lead but it took about 25 minutes to find....
Apart from that he's been 10th SS1, 7th SS3, =4th SS4 and now 8th on SS5, which is effectively SS1 for the second time....
I have just left a comment on Stuart's blog saying that Philips off the leash would be good value for the beeb. He is one of the Jordan mavericks that led with the lip and said what they thought regardless of who didn't like it
I thought he had a fuel tank problem
http://www.wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=405&season=2010&rally_id=MEX&category=&stage=5
8th on the stage 18th overall
officially named "prat perch"
Did Eddie Jordan invent that? ;) {Comment #369}
He might have invented the term, but the item itself pre-dates him.
He hit a rock on the road on the first stage that damaged his steering... not sure if they fixed it in service or not...
In SS2 his fuel pump stopped working (possibly due to the rock "bang" but I don't know for sure) and they had to locate the issue with that before they could get going again....
Prat perch as a term was invented byt the Lotus mechanics and I think Lotus may hev been the first team to have one.
have not hev
I read on AUTOSPORT his codriver found a loose wire down the side of the fuel tank
WOW
http://www.aut...s/report.php/id/81866
Force India has announced that director of business affairs Ian Phillips will leave the team after 19 years with the Silverstone-based squad. {Comment #398}
This has been a while coming. However good Ian is as a commercial manager/second-in-command type, I don't think his position in Force India ever recovered from the crime of prophesising out loud in September. Good luck to Ian in whatever role he takes on next - he was invaluable to Jordan and its successors.
Must have been the wire to the pump I guess....
SS6 in about 10 mins..
That is a repeat of SS2 that Kimi had problems on 1st time round....
He disappeared very soon after that (it was Belgium I think) - I remember about a week later a story saying he was suspended/not going to any of the races afterwards
Guess so
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81877
Yes it was Belgium as he said Fisi would be off to Ferrari...
He was right and we soon realised that Fisi was wrong... to go....
Apparently driving the Ferrari made him look 10 years older....
Reading the autosport report he set his 7th place in SS3 without changing tyres as well as wonky steering...
Not too bad for a rookie...
Another reason for me to get an iTouch/Phone
http://www.fiawtcc.com/Read_News.asp?idNews=481
Oh no...
I think I've done another major fail that lou will never make me forget. and this time I'm sober...
*refreshes tweetdeck*
hmm.
do tell?
I think you need to share so that we can help (& not because we're just nosey)
No, I'm pretty sure that I'm all nosey if I'm honest.
I am sure Lou will forgive you whatever it is. Unless you booked the wedding at a time when someone else has the simulator booked
I may have confused Tim Burton with a certain tennis player...
creepy cartoon maker Tim Burton?
Lou said she was going to see Alice in Wonderland, so I told her how much I like Johnny Depp and Tim Henman';s films together. I instantly got a reply 'Ahahahahahahaha' and I wondered why, re-read text...
facepalms ensued...
Friend of Mad Hatter Jonny Depp?...
Cor, that Tim Henman fella, makes some creepy cartoons doesn't he.
this has to make tweets of the week:
@alanbaldwinf1: Gather Charlie Whiting couldn't make it to McLaren today to see the rear wing that nobody seems to think is illegal. Hold the back page.
Evening
hey jackie.
]
Evnin.
SS5 started and Mikko Hirvonen still struggling a bit despite the cleaner road...
Loeb and Jari Matti faster in the early splits...
Is everyone happy?
very.
you?
Yep, wondering whether to watch Tin Henman's version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory myself.
Excellent stuff.
Me I'm good .. wondering whether or not to panic because Mav's says he's not ready for the season to start
Isn't Charlie inspecting the IRL track in Brazil this week?
Not too bad thanks, apart from every part of my body trying to kill me, I'm hanging in there.
Drinking so soon :D
Mr C's been saying that since the end of last season ;)
really? http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/wp-content/uploads/JA-and-Wirth-this-one.jpg
really, really?
It seems to have taken forever to get here and now it's fast approaching I think oh lordy where did the time go
oops
I have no idea what's happening here, but I now have an odd urge to watch back to the future.
we're maybe 50% ready, 60% if everything goes according to plan.
expecting new sidepodstuff around... spain or monaco at this rate :(
Terminator .. hasta la vista baby
i think so. planning fail?
Hello
Prat perch as a term was invented byt the Lotus mechanics and I think Lotus may hev been the first team to have one. {Comment #494}
Ah, so EJ doesn't even get to claim he invented the term...
I need him to score me points
theres another tweet i saw saying he got delayed on a plane in Brazil and so was late getting back
Hi Steven.
Forgot I said we'd start the quiz again very soon ... must start looking for questions
wooooooooo!! I heart the quiz, they make the middle of the week much nicer :)
Hey Alia .. what's the proper link for your blog please
No No No
Lou said she was going to see Alice in Wonderland, so I told her how much I like Johnny Depp and Tim Henman';s films together. {Comment #512}
Actually, a film with those two in it sounds like a good idea...
I have a feeling Camel were sponsoring Lotus at the time so it was yellow and EJ invented yellow so he has some kind of claim
Oh good
It would be oddly awesome.
They get oh so close to the finish and get beat before they can achieve success?
Ooh actually it's this wednesday ... yikes!
Will depend if road sweeper duties today have given him too much to make up...
Looks like Petter will be chief road-sweeper tomorrow followed by Ognier (bye bye Mr Sordo for next year?) and possibly Sordo assuming Seb Loeb hangs back to tuck in behind the other Citroens...
Mikkos 100th rally...
Don't panic. Well maybe panic a little
Is everyone happy? {Comment #520}
Yes - I've just had a nice bowl of pasta with pesto for tea :)
I have a feeling Camel were sponsoring Lotus at the time so it was yellow and EJ invented yellow so he has some kind of claim {Comment #544}
If extremely tenuous (I think yellow may have preceded EJ a little...)
yummy
They get oh so close to the finish and get beat before they can achieve success? {Comment #547}
And then they have such a witty piece of banter just before the credits that everyone forgets that they actually lost...
Very good...
Actually the only really invented colour in F1 is the dreadful Macca "porange" a mix of pink and orange...
Yuck...
Mikko now nearly 1 minute behind Seb Loeb...
I'm strangely mixed. I listened to some good songs on the way home and once I was home, it has been a fantastically sunny day with a tiny bit of warm breaking through the cold.
Feeling a bit 'meh' and snarky now but I think that's hunger, must get food and beer.
I was listening to dire straits earlier, that cheered me up
I was hoping to get through a big backlog of magazines, podcasts, racing and blogging by now. That hasn't happened but I'm not as annoyed about it as I was - my excitement for brand new live racing overrides anything :)
Ogier in the lead from Loeb but Petter still to go...
Agreed - and I no longer have annoying accounts studies in the way :)
Not Fleetwood Mac?...
ex. renault driver signs deal with current renault sponsor?
Lucas de Grassi has become the Brazilian ambassador for TW Steel watches this week, the company has proudly announced
http://www.watchshop.com/watchnews/TW-Steel-watches-announce-partnership-with-new-F1-driver$19653394.html
Go on Oggi
Hmm don't have that but I might have to purchase it :D
Ooo ooo ooooh! Has DC really signed up for DTM?
Todays Buzz Out Loud podcast they talk to the guy whose team did the Rube Goldberg machine for the OK GO video.
Talking about tactics for SS7 to get road position for tomorrow... apparently tomorrow has the dirtiest stages....
Expecting guys to slow down during this one...
oi oi oi ... sorry I had to :(
Last I heard he wanted another test first
saw a tweet a min ago that suggested he had
yep. He'll be driving last year's car #nothere
just saw molly's tweet. will listen later.
If Benson can't get an exclusive on that I'll......
:( :( :(
Here's the tweet http://twitter.com/MotorsportPrint/status/10040236273
Solberg fastest again....
At this rate he'll need to do the next stage in 1st to avoid leading on the second day...
Really? I am amazed he would consider anything other than a new car
Is there anywhere to watch the rally live?
Not that I've found...
:(
They are starting SS7 before Kimi's done SS6....
I shall watch the SS6 times...
You need to be careful what you put on facebook or you will end up in army jail
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100305/twl-soldier-s-facebook-post-scuppers-arm-3fd0ae9.html
saw that today - not the brightest in all fairness...
Ooooh dear.
Kimi 9th in SS6....
Just a few secs short of Wilson's time...
On to SS7....
Remote support. Lovely. :D
Hi TM...
Who do you support in Mexico...
Hirvonen 8 seconds slower than Loeb in SS7
Now over a minute in total...
But how far in front will Petter be and will Ogier and Sordo end up in front of Mr Loeb to road sweep...
Maybe Petter is likely to do so well in that role they'll not worry about getting Loeb behind Sordo...
Loeb will be in front of Sordo...
Ogier in front of Loeb...
What about Petter?....
There's only one Kimi.....
Nah, remote tech support for my nan. Teamviewer's awesome for that.
iPad available late April for UK and Australia.
http://www.apple.com/ipad
I must finish getting ready for work now
Very very true... just waiting for him to start SS7...
Great stuff....
Solberg 3rd on the phase and fastest for the day to SS7 so first on the road tomorrow....
No tactics for him....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIq-vG7tm8s
I think this is marginally child abuse, don't watch it if you're a bit squeemish, but she seems to enjoy it.
A must watch!
Go Petter! w00t!
Kimi on track for SS7....
Don't like the look of this ...Kimi seems to have stopped on SS7...
Aghh....
he rolled. both are fine
Bridgestone have been listening to the tyre complaints and have a new prototype...
http://www.hillclimbandsprint.co.uk/gallery/Gallery33/DSC_3655b.jpg
are those like the ultra-hards or something? :)
Mr C and I were discussing MFC type things. I wanted him to blog, but he said he's too busy, so I interviewed him instead!
:)
The amount of time he spends upside down he should be doing the Red Bull air races
Ooh!
New for this year. Wooden wheels and a rubber plank
:D
I don't want to cause trouble in sidepodcast towers but I just spotted an oddly interesting item on Channel 4 at stupid o'clock in the morning.
Hallo Panda
Channel 4
An existential anti-love story about men, women and pandas.
Tomorrow on Channel 4 from 2:55am to 3:25am
:)
i (hearts) kimi :)
good afternoon...
three weeks after the US?
there they go my FR points...
go petter! ;-)
Does everyone hate the UK.
Clearly no-ones heard of Airmail
you get F1 teams.
We get Apple products first.
Is it a fair trade?
and we down here get...?
I would like to propose a trade...
deal.
:)
you get a few of the teams and we can keep some, if you reduce the waiting time so a week?
Evening everyone :)
squire
evening alex
Is it a sliding scale?
Would McLaren moving over here be worth all three weeks? Or could we combine teams like Williams and Virgin combining to be worth three weeks?
Home sweet home :D
Apparently Kimi rolled 6 times ...
Hoping he can still take part tomorrow....
He was looking like being 6th on SS7 per the final split and rolled in the last section...
The others are doing the 2 Super Special stages....
at least he's pushing. I like it
Hi Alex
wow
if he keeps rolling it, he'll soon have to.
Whaaaaaaat??
Crazy times. I guess he's yet to learn that slow and steady win the race....
You still mostly 'armless?
If you are going to roll you may as well do it properly
Someone bashed into me today like full on. I think I'd rather have it chopped off than feel that kind of pain again.... Yeah that's made it super achy again although it had stopped hurting.
i hope he had his cap in his car. that would make me happy
'fraid so... from wrc.com...
The accident happened 17.5km into the 18.87km stage, on a downhill section littered with hairpin corners.
They won't know if can carry on tomorrow until they get the car back to the service park...
I'm hoping he can and hasn't messed up his back...
Ouch
for when lou catches up with comments:
http://prolost.com/blog/2010/3/5/for-the-record-canon.html
maybe he's not there to win, he's there to get some fun (and somehow find rolling the car amusing...)
hi all. I am at work. The things I do for Spa money!
merci
I love his cap...
Much cooler than the horrid normal ones....
Hi Amy
I guess it'll be on youtube quite soon...
It's okay. I bought myself Maltesers to make it feel better....
I've had a very busy evening...
My guess is that I've missed things.
Maltesers > paracetemol
I amy
do you fix it?
did, no do.
I'm doing remote tech support for my nan, and have been for the past 90 minutes. :)
not?
I thought you were chief boss woman these days...
ask Jari-Matti ;-)
yup.
:(
So that's why you didn't want to blog.
Funnily enough he is the other driver I support in rallying...
That's the way to go though really. Less work, more money. I swear it only gets more exaggerated the higher up the chain you get....
I'm working on a good perminant solution. This self hosted wordpress rubbish is the worst thing i've ever seen. And trust me i've seen a lot of stupid solutions to problems.
By that reckoning I should be earning a fortune :)
It only works if you have the kind of job where your boss doesn't work in the same building anymore!
David Evans says not. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81882
Perhaps the tarmac events are his forte...
you give them either very bad luck or very good luck, depending on how you look at it
Mine works 40 minutes away, but there are managers from other areas in my building, one next door to me..
welcome to my world.
I'm not a slacker! I do way more than my fair share of "unpleasant" shifts. There are just some things I don't like to do and now I can delegate them away....
Well it's really Kimi and as I was at 8 of his Ferrari wins I don't think I've done too bad for him....
I knew Jari Matti was a bit fast... and he smiled at me in Sweden... how could I not support him...
Hey Alia .. what's the proper link for your blog please {Comment #541}
Sorry I missed this earlier, Jackie.
My blog is at http://www.lacantablog.co.uk , but due to how the address system works, it converts any specified page within the blog to http://formula1home.com.au/forum/weblog_entry.php?e=xxx , where the "xxx" at the end is a number. (Formula 1 Home is the forum that hosts the blog).
My wiki is at http://www.lacantablog.com .
Most of the entries I write appear at both, but a few can't be made to work on the blog and a comment that appears at one will not be visible at the other.
Best opening line to a blog post ever?
http://thelaptimes.blogspot.com/2010/02/how-to-launch-f1-car.html
"It’s February, the beginning of a motorsports season (unless of course you’re A1GP, which you’re not, because you actually exist)..."
Well it's really Kimi and as I was at 8 of his Ferrari wins I don't think I've done too bad for him.... {Comment #667}
Now that is a good strike rate, given that Kimi only won 9 times for Ferrari. Maybe he should hire you to accompany him as his chief supporter and then he'll steamroller the opposition...
Or at least crash in to fewer things......
Hi all!!! Alice and Wonderland is an awesome awesome film...
hi lou
I'm having a donation spree. Just donated to 2 other websites I frequent a lot.
Oh, and my nan's computer is half-sorted. Still gotta sort McAfee and the Logitech keyboard drivers on it. Teamviewer is awesome!
Or at least crash in to fewer things...... {Comment #671}
That too.
Did Tim Henman do a good job?
Good to know. I presume Sr Depp is marvellous as usual?
Oh no
Glad you enjoyed it :)
you heard then? heheh amazini in fact :)
i may be in love with him again... #sorrylukeh
Someone mentionted that Tim Henman directed the film but I am not saying who.
#confidential
hahaha
Easy to do, man's a legend.
Reminds me of the name of a band, I don't think I can link to.
Evening all
evening
heya,
Hi Em ;)
you're so mean. i was just going to quietly sit here.
If any of you guys own a PS3, I can't stress enough that you need to make Heavy Rain an essential purchase. You just do. It's an absolute milestone in story telling for a game...
no lurking for you, birthday girl :P
That being said, I've been sat here for the last 20 minutes with my mind absolutely blown to smitherines by it. It's unexplainable.
That's a good sign of a great movie.
Piece it back together and go to bed like a good little Lukeh. :P
Hello
hey em.
Not allowed.
you can't! happy birthday :-)
I'm not gonna be able to sleep after all that excitement! It's like I've just taken part in my own blockbuster film.
A birthday?
On that tired bombshell, I'm hitting the sack. Looooooooooooong day's culminated in the longest tech support session ever: with family! Always the best...
Night guys. Might leave a voicemail tomorrow if I can remember what I was gonna say!
Oh Mr C! Thank you for the email! :)
hey everybody :)
yes.. someone is now legally able to buy drinks... :P
night TM
Oh dear, and that passed through Mrs C's superb calendar and the wiki?
Hey Em and SB and cheerio TM.
These two letter names are gonna get confusing soon...
The demo put me off a bit. It reminded me of Parappa the Rapper, as in pressing the right buttons at the right time. Was impressed with the fight in the hotel though.
hi
i don't think i quite had to order the whole cocktail menu though.
Oh my goodness.
You mean Bassano got her drunk when she was under age? Wait till he turns up.
oi.
even more oi!
oh no!
I'm ready with the tuts if he does!
naaahhh, you have 676 options...
;)
You don't really get into the characters and the story through the demo though. It feels more like a tech demo to me that. As a fullu flegdged game and as you develop your story (it'll be different for everyone based on what choices you make) the emotional attachment to everyone and everything involved is staggering.
but easier to type
You were just a child.
:)
ooooooooooooooh dear.
Sounds like my kind of game. It'll have to wait a couple of months, I pre-ordered GTA4 Episodes, that will take up some of my time to finish.
:D
it always comes back to cheeky vimto whenever i come here now.
You are allowed to drink under 18 in the presence of an adult, I believe.
Sounds good.
Yeah I've noticed people don't tend to forget things.
ever.
that's cause we're amazini ;)
If you come more often we will have more stuff to throw at you. At least you didn't think the film was directed by Tim Henman
are you talking about a party at williams? (runs...)
you need to do something more outrageous.
Its amazini that really. The main thing to remember is never say a thing, like ever, about what you have done.
:)
maybe we should start a new thing where we don't endlessly rib other people's drunken misbehaviours....
...that would be a bit boring though. ;P
!!!!!!!!!
*hides under pillow*
What RG means is don't say you will sing YMCA on a live show
would that mean i would have to stop saying 'amazini'? because i think it could catch on :P
To be fair most of the misbehaviours we wind up people about happened when they were sober. For example if someone told you not to put something behind a door with a combination lock would you put all you recording equipment behind the door just before Joe went on stage?
It is an amazini word
Oh my, it isn't even in the dictionary.
:D
yeeeouch!!!!!
I don't believe it
I seem to have missed this story :D
Exactly.
Probably yes. I've locked Car Keys in a car before now.
:D :D
that doesn't sound good. :S
i fixed it, no harm done.
#nothingtoseehere

:D Ahh.
What was even more disturbing was that someone stopped in their car to help me break back in without even asking me if it was my car.
hehehe
Just catching up with comments....
it's bad times. Poor Jenson, at least it isn't as bad as some of the stuff Lewis has done.
Button is famous.. to me.... :D
This reminds me, today while waiting for the film i was hoping and praying to see the bbc f1 advert on the big screen.... but i didn't. Then got upset cause they didn't show it. I confuse myself.
*cries* it's really not a difficult name to spell....
:D (hearts) you..
hahahahahahaha :D
O.M.G!!!! i need this in my life...
woah. from the past few years?
same!
:D :D
:)
hahaha #blamethecomments
:D :D
You need to learn about comment trawling
I'ma try and upload a quick video for you just to demonstrate something quickly :)
i drink so much tea this is actually perfect.. lol
although... this would be perfect for school ... http://www.canonrumors.com/2010/03/i-want-one/
what have you done now?
Yay, hello weekend & hi Sidepodcast
hi bassano
It's not something I've done...
....to a certain degree....
That is nice.
heya
Someone's headping is working
What if you had the real thing and the mug, and mistook one for the other?
[sniggers]
i'm a nikon girl... so it would never happen.. but i suspect the one with the tea in would be slightly heavier..
You would get some very dark pictures or a soggy camera
I seem to have created another episode of MFC. Apologies if it's a bit scratchy, it was delayed due to voice issues :)
http://mediafuturechange.com/2010/03/06/im-sure-there-are-budgetary-reasons-for-this-as-well/
So I've just noticed
interesting.... i think...
how are you feeling today Christine?
Cool, well done on the productivity
it's the other way around, I think that lens weights around 1-1.5kg
ah... fair enough.. only one way to find out though! get one and try! :P
It comes and goes. Don't think it's turning into a full cold though which is the good news.
OK, you buy the lens, I buy the cup ;-)
but... i want the flask.
Oh, and Happy Birthday Emily!
yay for it not being any worse. :)
thank you! :D
She is now old enough for you to give her alcohol
OK, if you insist...
Not true
I couldn't previously purchase it for her but in the privacy of an SPC Christmas Party, for example, it wasn't unlawful
You can;t see it very well but still - phone fail http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/phonefail-wmv
i love the colours in your house.
oohh!!!!! that was what the blank text was about earlier!! :)
i think having a red bedroom would give me a headache... #sorrylukeh..
oh I didn't mean to send it... whoops.
s'alright, i was confused, but figured if it was important you'd text again :P
apparently, although Emily is old enough to legally buy wine.. she can not open the bottle herself...
My phone puts shiv duck and ducking when I type certain words.
Why?
weak twisting action with screw top bottles. :/
I think this means Katherine won't be getting an iPad anytime soon from Giggles
UK launch is now 'late April' for both Wi-Fi Only & 3G
I read an extremely funny tweet earlier with a predictive text spin. If only it was repeatable
I thought Lou meant there was some obscure law banning you from opening wine.
#veryconfused
I'd say more practice but that's probably not the right message to be putting across
hehe no i am simply a weakling. my thumbs are made for playing gameboys, not for any actualy practical use.
*actually
Invent a game boy that has wine, press the button, wine pours out.
i think they have that out on wii already.
there's a device for opening bottles & jars. jml probably make it.
Nah, you need one of these:
http://www.mensup.fr/usbwine/?act=insc&mp=USBWINE&o=92&p=61
huh?
What?!!
But the wine! It is coming from the laptop!! How is this possible?!!! What?!!!!!!!!!
Oh my goodness, I need to lie down. I suppose I should sleep.... night...
and you never run out as you can order more online
Good night Lukeh
night...
G'night fella
night Lukeh
night Lukeh.
Night sir.
I think it's only available from France Telecom.
night luke :)

no link fail here. :S
And again, was it the https?
http://twitpic.com/16tvow
Ideal thumbs for texting
Worked for me
Landscape is the only way for speed iPhone typing
Maybe it's just DD not liking the https://
same here, except i usually click links with the scroll wheel
Works for me with the https
I SO want to see that
stephen fry as the cheshire cat is insanely amazing. amazini, in fact.
I saw the trailer at the IMAX, didn't realise it was he
Did you see it in 3D?
i have an urge to paint my black cat blue now :(
Do it now before you sober up
yes we did, i love how seamless the new 3D is! very pretty. a couple of slippy green screen moments, but otherwise very nice cgi. lots of amazing actors/actresses on the list as well :)
i'm really tempted... but i have no blue paint.. or hair dye..
I wanted to book my ticketas ages ago but didn't know if I was going away
Incidentally, have we got any South African listeners?
I may be in Cape Town soon
[must check map]
corrected!
Rich is in South Africa
ah thank you!
I suggest talking in today for that. But I think Rich is there.
Ta
How did we all get back to the 5th. Everyone change threads to the 6th
