Monday has arrived, and with it brings Robert Kubica's birthday. The Polish driver turns 25 years old today, and I hope he's throwing a big party to celebrate his drive at Renault. Oh wait, that might not be secure as he hopes. Hmm. We might be finding more out about that today, watch for breakout threads.
- We seem to be only producing F1 Debrief episodes fortnightly at the moment, but it's working very well. Yesterday's was a bit of a cracker, if we do say so ourselves. You can wait for the edited version which should be along later today, but I do recommend checking out the replay of the live show.
- We have finally drawn a line under our Sidepodscience Shell V-Power Challenge, after many months. Back then, we tested out the premium fuel in our cars and tried to talk about the science behind it, but now we have the answers from an actual Shell expert. If you haven't already, head on over to our interview with David Wood from Shell for some real science.
- My final piece of self promotion will be for Mr C's Jerez testing round-up. We tried a bit of an experiment this time round, opening up a thread for each day of the test, and Mr C concludes how this went, plus has a quick sum up of what the drivers got up to.
That should do it for now. Don't forget it is Must Comment Monday this week - although I can't talk as I have yet to find time to sit down and do it proper. I do try and comment as I go, though, and you should try it too. I'll see you in the comments.
Ping
Well done Pinger
Booo I posted that in yesterday.... I don't think petrol stations are open at this time either. We have some 24 hour fuel places to put your credit card in, I'm not sure they have revels dispensers....
24 hour supermarket, airport, motorway services?
That's what I'm saying... It's Sunday night, nothing opens until 8am. I live very far from an airport or a motorway I'm afraid :(
What a backward country
This may be God's way of calling me fat....
Around here every night is like this not just Sundays.
although they open earlier than 8am
If it was another day I could go to Tesco or Asda though. It's 12 miles but I'd probably do it right now.... I want them super bad.
There are several 24 hour supermarkets within 10 minutes drive for me and a stack of petrol stations that open 24 hours. I hate Revels though so they are all wasted on me
I can convert people. Nick said this. He then stole mine and ate them when I wasn't looking....
Do you know revels backward is slever?
wow.. dedication! there is a 24 hr Tesco 15 miles away from me but I'm guessing they are closed on Sunday night
Yeah, it's the law. If you're over a certain square footage, you're only allowed to be open until 4pm on a Sunday or 5pm if you open later in the morning.
How 19th century. My local Tesco is open 24/7
Where?
So its a 24 hour Tesco that's not open 24 hours??
Irvine. Put it in the search and it gives you the opening hours
http://www.tesco.com/storeLocator/
Yes. In England they're all like that.... They open from 8am on a Monday right through until some time on Saturday night. They then open 10-4 on Sunday.
Ah I didn't realise you lived in Scotland. For some reason I had it in my head you lived in England at the moment. I now have no idea why I thought this....
Yeah they changed the law in Scotland. They're allowed to be open right through.
There are some old trading laws which prevent it from being so.
They keep trying to change it and the shop unions start up screaming....
I think Sunday trade should be banned, and if you're in a job where you have to be open 7 days (like police etc) then you cant work more than 1 sunday a month. Family should come first
I have lived a couple of times in England but I ma back in the civilised world getting my strength up before my next spell of missionary work educating the less fortunate.
heh, the Dorchester store isn't on there...
What if you work 6 days a week and Sunday is the only day you can get anything done?
Okay wow. That's kinda crazy thinking in my world. I work Sundays regularly. I don't find it to be a great hardship. Sunday's a rubbish day for doing things. I'd rather get one of my working days out the road....
Maybe 'cos Jackie is Scottish and lives in England?
Don't blame 'em. Working Sundays isn't great anyway...
Me too :)
It is.
Weymouth Ave
Dorchester
I do it? I'd just like to be able to get my shopping on the way home from work rather than have to stop at the petrol station and pay a fortune.
Sundays are nice and relaxing unless there's F1 on.
ah. I searched for Bridport where I live and it didn't show as a 'nearest store' despite ones further away being listed
Yeah but I have another day off instead... Being off in the week is very satisfying.
Typical internet search
I would find it annoying on quite a few levels.
I found it annoying on the odd times I had to do it but I was doing Mon-Fri at the time too.
Yeah well working an extra day is never going to be a winner. If it became part of your routine, I'm sure you wouldn't mind it.
No working 6 days a week either!
PS. For most of my life, I have worked Sundays. I now have Sunday and Monday off. I keep getting confused by the number of people everywhere when I do stuff on a Sunday :-)
Oh I would. It was warehouse work.
Right but I don't see why because you don't like working a Sunday, you think me enjoying my routine should be illegal?
Also what if you need money? No overtime or saving up flexitime to fund a holiday?
Hello all!
hello.
Just watching Sunday Night Football (real football) and having a few beers
Hi Joe
Vikings . Cardinals?
Cards!!!!!!
You think they can deal with Favre?
I'm hoping the old Farve shows himself...an interception machine. I'm also a Bucs fan and when the Bucs played the Packers I could count on at least 3 interceptions from him. So I hope the Cardinal DB's are ready
Steven, I finally listened to your podcasts, they were very good. You should have a beer for yourself...I will
Glad you liked them and nice of you to drink my beer for me.
I would like Sidepodcast to do a "Where are they now" series covering some famous and less famous F1 people. I bet you could get behind that
nice idea..
That could be interesting. Anyone particular in mind?
Yeah, I've always wondered what Luca Badoer is doing these days
Cards turned the ball over quickly
:-)
Favre nearly had his first pass intercepted
Yeah there's lots of people, Peirre Luigi Martini, Alex Cafi, Stefano Modena, pick a name there's tons of them a few steps away from stardom
James Hunt used to rave about how good Stefano Modena was. Then Modena became Brundle's team mate and that ended his reputation
when he's him old self, he'll throw them right to a defender, not just a tipped pass
I think there are a million stories out here that haven't been asked about
We all have drivers we think should have achieved a lot more like McNish, Magnussen, Byrne, Thackwell but for a range of reasons didn't. Equally there are guys with long careers who I would never have given a test to.
I think this referee had his eyes shut when he called that
True. But there are also famous guys with championships that it would be interesting to know what they are up to. I also suspect they wouldn't mind the attention of talking with Christine and Mr. C while we ask them questions
If it's for the Cards, he did a fine job
It was a touchdown for the Vikings and he decided it wasn't. Currently challengine
And the truth comes out
im bored. And sleepy. Boo monday.
How was the party?
If you're at work, that explains the Boo part
party was excellent. Now i am at work for another 7 hours :( counting down the days til my 4 day holiday!(17 to go)
That's good because you were not sure you wanted to go
yes, i am glad i did! There are some photos on the drop
Someone said you were not in the pics and you had just nicked them from the photo booth
i am in all 6 in the first set, the second set i just shoved my head in the booth for one frame.
Anyone know what time the British gp press conference is on during Monday? None of the articles I've seen tell me. But maybe it's not clear yet - how appropriate ;)
Haven't seen a time mentioned
cool. It might be a present under the tree when I wake up.
Were they ever teammates? I don't think so. :-/ Modena's best season was 1991 - he was really going for it that year with the Tyrrell.
I'd include Frentzen and Wendlinger in that list. Heck, I'd put Brundle and Verstappen in for good measure.
Not this again.
Other than the headline, JA includes an aside on Gerard Lopez, who JA likens to Chad Hurley. JA makes it sound like a good thing, but given where USF1 is right now (i.e. we have no idea), that may not exactly be the most favorable of comparisons.
Morning everyone :)
Hi Alex! Hi Everyone!
My James Allen book arrived and his signature annoys me. It is just a squiggle.
Morning.
Morning Jeremy.
There seems to be a lot of negative comments about this book... I have got to March and I must say that I am enjoying the retrospective so far ... what I like about it is that with hindsight, a lot of things were said in F1 that turned out to be completely false... ;)
Morning folks. :)
surprise, surprise. :P :D
Well it's more amusing than surprising, TBH.
For example, in March all the FOTA teams had signed an agreement to stay in the sport until 2012... that accord got broken pretty quickly! :D
Haha! Very true. That said, I do wonder - if the breakaway did push through, would it have made them more or less likely to leave?
I think those that left would still have if it broke away - they just needed the right excuse...
And that could've ended up being even more humiliating - perhaps this is the victory over LDM that got away from Max? LDM must be the only enemy Max never got to defeat in public.
Interesting. I'm having my catch up fix with Christine's Advent Calendar: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/07/f1-advent-calendar-2009-day-seven/
Yup. Three days to catch up on today!
i've been trying to work out where I recognise the music at the beginning is from. I'm starting to think it's something like Starbucks jazz music.
Looks like Silverstone have finally put bernies's deadline extentions out of their misery http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTRE5B604U20091207
You know, I'm glad that someone stood up to Bernie and negotiated with him.
He certainly never misses the chance to stick the boot in and blame the BRDC, as he is quoted in the article.
Sour grapes. Less money for the longboat to Valhalla!
Bernie the Norse god - the thought of it makes me shudder. :O
I think he really does believe he can take it with him!
By the way, StuartC's website is 5 Pints of Awesome!
Morning all. How's Monday?
Do we have a link?
http://www.stuartcodling.com/
God bless Apple Loops.
Merci :)
New article on Stuart's blog, too. Very interesting line of thought from Stuart... :)
Indeed... the weirdest thing is Adam and Joe because they turn so many of them into songs and things so it seems much more like they "own" the loop. Very strange. They get people writing in to complain that they've ripped off things from other shows and also reporting other people ripping them off. Crazy.
I don't understand is he saying Brundle also complained about the venison?
Oh I see... Ignore me.
Are they like Fruit Loops?
Naughty me for bad plugging :(
Adam and Joe are weird anyway!
Just remembered - doesn't the Copenhagen Climate Conference start today?
How is it over there, Gavin? I know you don't live in Copenhagen - but do you work there?
Have pre-broken out a thread on Silverstone: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/07/silverstone-set-to-confirm-british-gp/
dictionary :)
This is not me trying to be pushy or demanding, but when I saw the link for the reply in the daily I went to look and I don't think it's there yet. Happy to wait, just wasn't sure if you knew.
The replay? That is Mr C's job.
Aha!
#blamesteven
I do - I believe it starts Wednesday. Honestly, I don't know what's going to happen, but every precaution seems to have been taken, including our office, as we work in an industry that may be unpopular with these types.
Personally I am familiar with it because I had to deal with this directly in my old job, but thats a story for another time ;)
Is that like a pre-announcement announcement?
Not really. It's more like... I know people are going to want to talk about it and I might not be around to do a breakout when it happens.
Breakout has broken...
Like the first breakout...
So it's a pre breakout breakour? :D
praise for the C's, praise for the breakout
Morning all.
I think i've realised why LewHam always wear a proper tie rather than a Bow tie at Black Tie events.....I think it's because he can't do it up properly!
sorry, it got as far as drop.io. the autosport awards confused me and i needed a lie down. will do now.
Morning Mr. C. How come?
hooray the bootleg of my Pearl Jam show is finally available. I've never been so thankful for a digital music file.
i just done commented on stuart's site:
http://www.stuartcodling.com/2009/12/at-the-autosport-awards/comment-page-1/#comment-16
i hadn't noticed. someone around him must be able to though?
A tie roadie?
In other news, T Kravitz was seen in a white tie.
Apple just emailed me to say a store is opening near me soon. I've never been to an apple store. :D
tell me he'd had a shave?
I done commented too, Steve...
:)
I saw no facial fuzz.
phew.
Right, I'd better get going to the office, because the it-was-a-late-night excuse is going to wear a bit thin.
I am in HMV and I have spotted a certain Official 2009 D
F1 Season Review DVD. Before you ask, I won't be buying it now, I'll ask for it for Christmas :P
it's out already?
Yup!
I hope bernie hasnt accidently produced something saying Jenson is the world champion before he actually is...
I got an email to say the zone 4 one was out December 4th which is much better than the March release they managed for the 2008 one. But its $40 and I know in a few months I'll find it for $10 so no purchasing for me :D
:D:D
last night's debrief replay should now be up.
Been out for a week-plus already. Checked a preview online. :) My copy is already in the US, waiting to be shipped here.
I'd forgotten that I'd set the washing machine going and can't leave until it's finished, so I'll entertain myself with the debrief in the meantime!
yay. there's a song you've just got to hear :)
ahh, had no idea. can you let us know if it's any good?
Do you know I have had the 2008 one since Easter and not seen it yet?
Hi all
I just nearly cried seeing the ticket prices for Silverstone 2010
Anyone else thinking of going?
How much are they?
http://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/2010-Formula-1-Santander-British-Grand-Prix/?tab=Book-now
less than we paid two years ago, no?
Is it cheaper than Spa?
What kind of tickets did we have?
http://www.spagrandprix.com/
bronze terrace.
It was about £300 we paid, so the early bird price is cheaper, the regular price not so much.
depends what you're comparing, but spa's top price is higher than silverstone's.
£448 for "weekend gold plus" in spa
£399 for "club silverstone" (which last time featured private loos and a brass band)
Ok in 2008 I paid £110 for 3 day pit straight terrace ticket! totally worth it
2009: £169 for 3 day luffield terrace ticket
So this year i've decided i don't want to fight strangers at 7am trying to find a spot for my chair and getting hassled by the marshalls even though i've PAID for a spot on the luffield terrace (terrible this year as people who'd paid were turned away due to lack of room. So though it i'd get a 'cheap' seat...
Even with the early booking discount it's £200!!
And of course friends wanna go so all has to be booked together
I feel backed into a corner...only chance i'll get to see the cars unless I got to Spa for the same price...Silverstone is only 8 miles for me :-(
Spa is much more expensive than I'd imagined.
I know many of you will sya GA is the way to go but i've done the terrace thing!! I was so annoyed seeing many of us literally arguing to get a space this year at 7am on the sunday yet the seats don't fill up until the parade lap...
I'd like to feel less like a 3rd class citizen even just for an hour
it is.
i wouldn't. much rather have a seat.
GA makes me hate humanity.
the problem is the price of the euro.
I am having the exact opposite, the strong AU$ is making my holiday a lot more affordable than it would have been a year ago.
I was disgusted at the treatment of people this year..
Why should i and others who've PAID for a ticket/service be turned away from our choice of location because Silverstone didn't think people would be bringing fold up chairs...
I'm sorry but only an idiot expects us all to sit on unsheltered concrete for 6 hours before the race...2008 was awful due to weather but being my first year I didn't care really...although i caught an illness as a consequence of being wet and cold for hours...
aw diddums
Stoopid weak pound.
Hullo. Hurrah for silvy.
I would have thought it would be cheaper too...
hehe. plenty of time for it to change.
...and for us to save.
it'll be well over £1,000 for the weekend for the two of us though.
Jeez. I am less keen now. Wish I hadn't looked.
GA at Le Mans was very good... but no seating and it was hot and dry ;)
#nothingtoseehere
merci

I'd be up for that!! It's ok when the weather is warm!!
is there a price you can pay not to have a brass band in your loo?
I laugh in the face of your expenditure! And then I see my credit card statement. And then I cry.
heheheh.
no.
oh.
:D
IE not British or Belgian weather then?
My mad Ferrari cousins went in 2007 - I might ask them and see what they thought of Spa...
As long as it's not bagpipes, I think it's okay.
anywhere from £320 down doesn't come with a live band.
not that a live band was expected last time.
our problem is cameras, they don't work when wet.
(how did we get around talking about spa again? grr)
Sorry :(
*runs away from computer in fear*
Thing about Silverstone is, how can they spend money on improving the place when Bernie is bleeding them dry?
I was thinking about going to get some lunch, but the money will be better off in my newly-created Spa piggy bank, I think!
heyhey
did they wear flippers too?
Spa=Kimi=Monument at Eau Rouge.
Thats my life aim
193 - Gavin Brown (RubberGoat) said: 07/12/2009 at 12:03:41Thing about Silverstone is, how can they spend money on improving the place when Bernie is bleeding them dry?
I don't Bernie wants them to succeed at upgrading the place...
heheh. it's ages away. plenty of time to save.
agree
that reminds me, was going to check something for Christine..
Hmm.
Ooh, yay!
Silverstone got saved. but they dropped the Bridge
So what do i do??
Miss the very thing I work each day for even though it's only 8 miles from my door and travel to Spa etc or just accept the cost and pay it the whole time trying to imagine Bernie being consumed by fire?
spa isn't any cheaper. so not that.
Depends - why not try Spa one year to compare?
I have never heard of any of these: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8395789.stm
But the panda one should win, clearly.
I want to try Spa but I have this massive love of silverstone
It's like I can't stop myself going there...I know it sounds sad but i know all best places for piccies, how to avoid the traffice, got my own bed at night etc...it's ideal for me..
Nobody likes change!!
Bernie you are going to burn my friend....
rather a slightly dearer Silverstone than no Silverstone at all?
I can't get to grips with this newer commenting..
How do I quote someone!!
Was going to say Gold Panda automatically gain 600 plus votes from the sidepodcast 'massive'
rather a slightly dearer Silverstone than no Silverstone at all?
It appears so!!
There is a donations button on the right hand side of the home page :)
If you're commenting on the individual posts, that is broken at the moment. If you're using one of the live commenting solutions

You just have to click on the sentence to quote.
It didn't take long for Stuart to get to this topic at all. I call it:
The GMM Article
Although it discusses much more than that. :)
It looks like he's standing in the bit of Valencia that made it look cool before we saw it for real
that is surprising..
although nobody is forcing you to take the top option..
If noone buys tickets for next year they will have to drop them for the following 16 though...
Shame this wouldnt work in practice...
I took a pic of a plastic Panda for you Christine, I'll download it from my camera later!
I feel my economics degree and the principles of supply and demand all coming back to me!
I need one of those.
The problem is there is inquantifyable demand when patriotism and ingrained habbits are involved.
It could be cheaper to fly to turkey, stay in a hotel, buy tickets and watch the race there, and it could still be less popular than silverstone
What about Germany or Hungary, any cheaper?
Don't bother. I had a friend who went to qualifying this year and he said there was nobody there!
I guess some people won't make the tradeoff of money saving vs convenience.
In other news, I am trawling war graves sites to find out where my great uncle is buried because I thought it might be nice to pay a visit when I am in Europe, but he's at the complete opposite end of Italy to where I am going :(
Oooh. Got any more info?
this was him and he is here.
He was my nanas brother and as far as I'm aware, the only closeish relative I have who was killed at war.
That's very cool to know that. I have no idea about my relatives, although my Grandad from Italy told me that if they had a parade they would kick you up the bum if you didn't salute.
Also, Denmark was occupied, and my brother-in-law bought the Farmhouse that has been in his family since 1800. He found an old WW2 rifle and bayonet, and he wouldn't say much, but implied his Grandad may have been in the resistance!
Yay silverstone! Morning/afternoon all:) just here for a minute or two :)
where abouts in italy? I'm asking because whenever I go back I might be able to go say hello for you. I know it's the not the same though.
apparently "The Sangro River War Cemetery lies in the Contrada Sentinelle in the Commune of Torino di Sangro, Province of Chieti"
which means nothing to me but google maps said its 4 hours from Rome :D
god no. not in a million years.
was just a useful benchmark.
it's no more pricey than last year though?
ahh well then whats all the fuss :D
not a place I've heard of either but you can always go next time you're in Rome;)
or... maybe people just like racing?
that would require time off of work though? hardly the same as rocking up in a field on a sunday afternoon.
wiki says its in Abruzzo. I only know of the existance of that region because of Trulli and earthquakes.
I like rocking up at places.
:)
to be honest, that's how I know it as well. It is a bit out of the way and not much else over there to do at the same time. Abruzzo does have a really bice national park apparently, but it wasn't enough for me to head out there.
Do you think Geologists do too?
I don't think I correctly emphasized in the video yesterday how unsurprised Joe was that I wanted to borrow his bin. I always wonder at what point he'll regret being my neighbor :)
:)
I meant it isnt an event to whoch you can predict a price snap at, as there isnt an equivelent alternative... For example if you didnt like the hike in train fares you could, buy a car or take the bus.
For a lot of people, whilst they will wince at an increase in the cost of sporting tickets, but still buy a GP ticket or a season ticket to there team. because although their are alternatives, they don't appeal at the same level.
Its why so many millionaires buy football teams, they get to be famous, and they can hike up the costs so eventually everyone pays for them to do it.
Possibly, but if you flew to turkey Thursday night and back on Sunday night would it be much different to driving to Silverstone on a Friday morning in time for FP1?
Anyone know why the Friday Night Comedy Podcast wasn't available until today?
And an interesting one, I would've put Silverstone top of the non-Monaco pile. Apparently Montreal is quite high too?
My mind is fried, I dont think my sentences make sense any more! (if they ever did)
sentences are good enough for us. I think we all have an innate sense of understand each other by now :)
off to work. See you all later.
Have fun! Happy monday!
thanks. Meetings start at 9am ;)
I was just reading the comments on a blog and I noticed a comment from Fourstar which started, "I have a dull meeting this afternoon..." I then asked him, "who are you meeting this afternoon?". He said, "don't you mean 'who are we meeting this afternoon'".
It wasn't in my diary. I think he's trying to give me diary updates by comments on other people's blogs now... #MFC
which is cool. unless the person you're meeting reads the same blog.
I don't think it was actually on purpose. Maybe, in the end, there are some advantages to not putting your real name...
I'm a fan of US racing and its history, particularly on the Indycar side. If anyone else here likes it, I strongly recommend the Oil Pressure blog where I was just reading a history of the Unser family. These are very well written pieces.
This one is even better.. very revealing about the way racing is perceived in the southern US and how a NASCAR fan is completely different to an IndyCar fan...
http://oilpressure.wordpress.com/2009/11/16/distancing-indycar-from-nascar/
what I like about it is that with hindsight, a lot of things were said in F1 that turned out to be completely false... {Comment #87}
I'm using the Autosport preview issue to help me write my season round-up transcript and it, too, has some unintentionally amusing comments. Not to reveal too much in case Mr and Mrs C want to excerpt that part of the round-up for the Megamix...
Oh yeah, better get round and send something ;)
Do it!
Yes Ma'am!
In fairness, I have barely been home for a week. If I have until the 16th, I can easily start writing and do the talking by then!
14th.
Still fine *rustles paper* ;)
i appear to be exhausting all of my mustcommentmonday thoughts responding to stuart's posts. the man is writing more than joe.
Its crazy! I thought id check to see if there was a new post today and there were loads!
Great stuff though Stuart :D
*tuts*
;)
Oh yeah, better get round and send something {Comment #257}
I'm hoping to record my piece tomorrow (I've only got to finish off the Ferrari and politics sessions before I start talking) and send it in mid-week-ish.
indeed so. it's crazy!
Ello all
Good day to you to!
Ey-Up!
Evening sire. How art thou?
anyone like to save me from my lecture. i don't think i can take much more of this :(
Hey Jon.
Still working, Still sick...
I think i need a sabbatical! :P
hmmmmmmmm ;)
My thoughts exactly. :)
And how are you today then?
Am doing pretty good ta, i've got no more work in until end of Jan, so am at a bit of a loose end, so am starting to plan bits and pieces and do some bits i've been putting off! It's a good day i think!
Hehe, good for you... Its 7:15 here, Im hoping to be done working by 11...
am?
pm, no doubt. i usually finish work at 10 pm myself.
what work do you exactly do, nick?
woah
perfectly normal - we work European hours, remember. :) so we usually come in for work just after lunch.
ah yeah i guess, thats cool
Internet advertising...
If i have a web connection... I can work.
A blessing and a curse
I feel your pain. I absolutely do.
But it's an interesting industry to be working in.
so its you who keeps sending me all that spam! ;)
:D still up, amy?
or just got up :P
psssh, its only 2.25, I'll be up for hours! :D
=))
#notguilty!
RG = Happy. Woop
That is all
Why?
?
Am listening to yesterdays Debrief thingy
That's a question and a half ;)
:D Hmmm. :P
http://www.feederseries.co.uk/
A kind of reflective thing, buy anywho, watch/listen/read.
Tis great
#MCM
Thought you were going to follow that with Timo is the new King, but Sauber still is happy.
Afternoon all.
Helloooo
How art thou?
Good thanks, erm, thee.
Watching the 1996 Spanish GP post-race presscon, and I'm seeing Alesi and Villenueve reliably saying "for sure".
When did that habit start anyway?
I broke my mp3-player. again. :(
You should probably not do that.
And there's my comment for #MCM!
Boo.
Kathi, by any chance, will Finnish TV be covering the FIA Gala live this year like they did before?
nope. No Finn won -> no gala
Toni Vilander doesn't count
BOO. :(
Does that mean I have to settle for the delayed Eurosport coverage?
FYI - It's on Sunday the 13th, 2300 GMT.
For next year you'll just have to hope that either Heikki wins F1 or Kimi becomes rally worldchampion. I'm no sure which one is more likely.
I'd say the latter - at least Kimi has already has a seat - in a title-winning car at that.
#sorryAmy
Emerson Fittipaldi usually gets the blame for introducing it to F1 so 1970.
So it'll be 40 years next year?
Goodness me.
hehe. just received a heads-up that mav's "driver of the decade" idea may have been a popular one.
could be a mahooosive coincidence mind you.
could be.
coincidence with what, exactly?
For sure :)
had an email to say another blogger may have liked the idea.
could be a complete fluke of course.
Bless Mr C and his Bottle
Grrr.
Do we know roughly what time Sidepodmeetup is on Saturday?
I tried to be all #mfc and use ammazon's download store for the first time but failed because I live in the wrong country. My Dad had to be #mfc for me. I hope they sort that out eventually :(
Finnish internet can't do Amazon?
Amazon doesn't do Finland
That's insane
They dont even do australia!
Madness. At least they could argue Australia is a long way away but if they are doing mainland Europe it is crazy not to do Finland
I hope this will work out: http://www.stefanoforenza.com/ubuntu-one-music-store/
the only European countries are UK, Germany, Austria and France. They should have a European store (in English) at least for the downloads.
That doesn't make any sense. They should be able to do the whole EU without it being massively more complicated than doing a few countries. They are asking for competitors to just take the Spanish abd Italian markets for example. That must be close on 80-100 million people. That has to be worth a little bit of efort from Amazon.
Evening.
I've only just come in and read this without reading anything else anywhere and already I have a feeling I know who you mean..
hullo chap.
;)
Do you read the last.fm blog? I'm currently reading this ultra-cool thing here. Anything where they turn a graph into a mountain, and then make a 'war room' for a product launch, has to be good.. Interesting too.
ooh, no. i shall now.
You'll like the realtime stuff and Christine will like the graphs. "if it moves, graph it"
we need a war room.
Me too. World feed, onboard, comments, twitter...
Sounds much better than a playground.
doesn't it... hmmm
it does? *throws flowers*
Twitter's site gets weirder and weirder. It says it is down for scheduled maintenance, and with it is a picture of a caterpillar and an ice cream.
or maybe not.
we has no-one to fight anyhow.
That's not a problem. It's well know that Scottish people can start a fight with anyone and there are at least three of us here so we can start a fight with ourselves then when someone tries to break it up we all turn on them. Traditional Scottish Xmas and new year entertainment.
:)
Not really about fighting, more about a method of focussing on the task of following all the data flowing through a race weekend...
love this picture:
http://www.f1minute.com/category/f1-big-picture/
(taken by lou's favourite too)
very nice, as is the one below it
:-D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgzC-l_lmUU
That is exactly how it works.
Popping in quickly to share something amusing. The computer drivers on Forza 3 learnt a valuable lesson about the GT40 earlier this evening.

Silly driver! Anyways, back to VB land

brdc this time.
gooood evening everyone :)
3-in-1. well done you.
Fool..
I didn't like ovals had clockwise races?
hey lou.
Evening
The Jenson pic was like a headping. Wasn't it?
You can do some races on normal or reverse versions of the tracks, basically all the ovals to make the game sound like it has more tracks
*runs away*
I'm browsing through some of the videos on the official wrc channel on youtube. This is Kimi during the rally Finland. Does he know he is supposed to just follow the instructions and not talk back?
includes swearing (in Finnish)
hehehe loving the photo of Jenson.. even though he looks odd without his beard.. lol nice to see webber too :) he's on a question of sport this week i think..
Why did I say 'like' instead of 'know'?
ah
of course ;) as was the awesome awesome awesome pic by Lorenzo :D
shoo! ;)
hehe.
what's he saying? he's sound like he's not happy with the info he's being given.
I saw a version with subtitles the other day, not sure if I'll be able to find it again but if I could I wouldn't be able to post it here :-)
oh right :D
so the lclt is our war room... of sorts?
He is complaining about the car. And occasionally asking Kaj for clarifications but mostly complaining about the car in colourful language.
actually it may have been another stage
Hehe, you will be making it black with green text at race weekends next to look extra menacing! :D
If it's the one I think it is: search for Uurainen
Just checked my history and it was SS11
in a sense :-)
It is funny to hear him answer back!
ah no sorry that was something else
The LCLT is not threatening enough for a war room.
I don't think war rooms have snuggly sleepy pandas in them. I may be wrong.
needs a menacing countdown?
oh.
maybe, just maybe.
Maybe we need to give the panda an M16 and a laser beam.
is that any more nutritious than bamboo though?
If it is pointing an M16 and a laser beam at its keepers they will bring it something a lot more nutritious and chocloate
i spy jules!
There is no link in your link
you're not meant to give it away that easily.
but i used the preview button and everything!... i shall try again
i spy snow
:D
Wow!!
...Tony Jardine!
Maybe Lou gives us the answer and we have to guess the letter it begins with.
meanie!
i think his company do silverstone/brdc pr stuff.
:)
That looks like the new more clean cut McLaren corporate Jenson.
Aww. Was hoping this would be the start of an amusing series where Jardine pops up in the background of photos
ooh, doesn't it just.
yeah i said that earlier.. he has very little beard now :(
he's very grey.
overall look = disappointment...
This is Kimi's on-board during the crash. Surprisingly not much swearing. (click jatkuu)
The few things I can understand:
Kimi: everything alright?
Kaj: yes (in a few more words)
Kimi: nice roll
No Finns were harmed in the making of this video.
He was also at the Silverstone announcement!
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1323825
he organised it :)
http://www.jardine-international.com/
Where's Jardine
A F1 equivalent of Where's Wally
:)
could they not get those people chairs?
He was really unlucky to go of and roll there.
Bernie got the chairs as part of the deal
sometimes the best photograph can be taken from the floor.. they probably wouldn't get the angle they were after if they were sitting on a chair.. ;)
:P
I have come home from the pub and for some reason am now watching Wallace and Grommit. Perhaps I drank more than I thought.....
Did you get Revels?
I got some in town earlier thanks :)
is the FIA Gala this friday?
It was on December 12th last year if that helps
and December 7th two years ago
great! you're already thinking on the best way to take photographs, even before starting your career ;-)
hi happy british people (and other happy people in the world that love Silverstone)
Thanks Kathi and Steven.. my thinking was if it's this Friday then it will be a double dose of Jenson as he's on friday night with Jonathan Ross too... (if i say it enough i wont forget...)

Evening Sidepodworld
good evening :)
evening
Hi guys! I know I haven't commented in a week and I missed a live show... :(
it's been at long week at camp Lewis with rehearsals, theatres and loads of coursework. Well, I'm here now...
hey sir. we're barely here, working on new and exciting stuff.
how were rehearsals?
Hello Mr Lewis.
they were okay, but the dossers didn't turn up (again), our normal set up was being used for something else and we didn't manage to get much done. I just hope the grades don't suffer...
bonsoir, Monsier RG
hi Lewis
good evening! ;)
Hello people who came in while I was reading things.
I'm making progress on my RSS backlog. I haven't done any MCM yet apart from at StartledBunny's.
Theres the most amazing video of Ant kart racing over on www.feederseries.co.uk it's really worth a look
the last bit went in one eye and out the other. Please elaborate
ah shoot. gotta get cracking on that in an hour. i saw jon's plug. anyone else been writing?
Must Comment Monday. Comment on every blog post you read that was written today.
I'm being evil and writing a football post. Mwahaha.
Catch up on blogs when I am done. One promises ;)
oh lordy!
Sorry I thought MCM was some sort of HTML code...
I've finally noticed that Robert Kubica's having a birthday today. So happy birthday to him :)
Happy Birthday Bobby!
it was keke rosberg's birthday yesterday, according to the GP data book...page 742...
One day of the year where he might not be complaining.
without looking on Wikipedia RG, when is Tim O'Glock's birthday? :)
March 18th.
:/
nuthin wrong with a birthday in the middle of March
The first GP winner ever to win on his debut, Giancarlo Baghetti was born on Xmas Day...
I'm just unhappy he got it correct (although he has to be his biggest fan ever)
I'm amazed you'd expect the person who wrote this:
http://onetimoglock.wordpress.com/about-timo/
to get it wrong ;) :)
flippin' heck that wasn't there when i looked.
...defeat...
You do read the daily posts don't you?
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/10/12/daily-12th-october-2009/
blimey!
oh bugger.
language...
well at least, by the look of the comments you remembered it was my birthday :P
i heart Lewis :D
happy birthday/Xmas, lou...
[Insert evil laugh here]
fan count: 1
hehehe
Wohooo, have made great strides with this silly bisual vasic work today and tonight so time to call it a day with all that me thinks and chill.
...visual basic. bleh
I think I am gonna hit the hey, long day of film analysis tomorrow.
Merry Sidepodchristmas
lewis
hehe. night lewis.
adios
But thats fun! Which reminds me I still need to analyse Beyonce. Oh fun.
Bye lewis
huh?
do we want to know what that means?
For media. We have to analyse three music videos. This was the 'must use' one.
which video?
Crazy in Love. After listening to it for three times already I can confirm it is annoying and I did want to kill someone.
noo, classic. a brilliant video.
I was talking about the song mainly.
i likes that too.
what are you analysing? cinematography, choreography, otherographys?
Everything about the video. Whats going on, why thats happening, why she is wearing what, why that effect is being used.
if you can figure out the "blowing beyonce to pieces, but she's still alive" bit, i'm all ears.
That qualifies as education?
Yes?
Yeah, that did occur to me. Quite baffled.
Oh aye.
i'd say yep. a modern classic that video. lots to be learnt.
how many words rg?
Minimum of a page on size 12. Easily done, someone wrote five pages on it I think.
can see that.
what are your other choices?
Haven't really thought about that just yet, mainly focused on the more practical side of the whole thing so far. But need to get the written stuff done.
Dear RG.
I would like it to be known that I made a comment that sounds reasonably knowledgable about Football
Boo ya
That prompted me to look at the birthdays list and I have discovered something:
Happy Sidepodversary Scott.
Haha. Well played Mr Jon Waldock. I love that comment. :D
Mwhahahaha
Evening all, crazy busy week at work so sorry for not being around much.
Hope you're all good.
Two whole years. Impressive.
Hey Adie.€
wow. cheers rg.
Terrifying!!
I'm supposed to be tidying up right now. I have workmen coming in the morning. Really can't be bothered.
Twas Pat.
no need to apologise adie, think of spc as your local pub, only with better opening hours and less beer. pop in anytime.
I wouldn't have looked if it wasn't for those pesky kids, and their dog.
sorry. cheers pat.
tch, Scooby reference going over heads..
Zoinks!
What was I doing before I was on the phone? :-)
Journeyer's is on the 9th and Steven's on the 13th.
of this month? cool.
Ok....It was a flying visit so need to dash.
Fairthee well SidePodLand
byee
bye sir!
Evening, anything exciting that I missed?
British GP is at Silverstone for the next 17 years
Yep, that's definitely exciting! Glad they really have given up on Donnington or nothing now.
*does happy dance* ehehe
im happy, but also not bothered. is this bad?
I suppose it might be because you expected it to happen?
You knew it was going to happen. I told you months ago
Sums up my view nicely
Yeah i guess so. I'm happy for the Motorsport Industry, but from a race POV, i dont find silverstone's race that amazing unless it's wet
Hi all. Good news from Silverstone. LPG and I are wondering if this was the intended outcome all along, just like BMW and Sauber. Did BMW deliberately not sign the Concorde Agreement to make the team worth less money? Did BMW know that Toyota were going to leave F1?
Sounds just about right to me. With me, I'm glad it is still there because it would have been a disaster for UK motorsport if it wasn't, but since it isn't a race I've ever felt a desire to attend, as a fan I'm not jumping for joy, just mildly pleased. Plus this has been dragging on for years.
2008 was good times. If only I hadn't been looking all over for Michael Shumacher.....
i know... but it's nice that it's final and the fact i'll get at least another 17 chances to go to silverstone :)
It was more the absurdity of the announcement that Donnington were getting the Grand Prix from 2010 which annoyed me, just after Silverstone had been granted planning permission for circuit redevelopment, to bring it up to Bernie's modern standards.
i'm happy enough for you don't worry ;)
Did you find him?
I'm just sad Bernie didn't consider my idea of a race in my street. We have better hospitality than Mr Gillett and only 2 holes in our road
That too.
I think the way I think about it is a) i won't believe it until it happens and b) how do i know that it's not going to be at silverstone for 17 years, and in my head i've already started to get myself more prepared for another stupid battle of wills. its stupid
I liked Donington just for the fact it was closer to me. But not too close (ie Croft) so that it would be wrecked and I'd struggle for racing tracks again.
I think my dad gave up in the end and pointed out a random car.... I really have come on. I corrected him the other day. That was also Shumi related though, I wouldn't want you all to think I was obsessed....
why would bmw want to devalue their team?
ahahaha
Have been trying to work out the most effective way for me to get back into RC racing and my local club does oval and off road, but oval is alot cheaper...
I remarked this to my girlfriend and the first thing she said was...
"oh. BORING"
hehehehe
the rally Finland will have a in-the-city-special-special-stage. I'm still hoping it will go through my backyard.
Hence the sale to QADBAK. I don't think they cared who got it, apart from Mario, as I keep saying, they sold it to the first team who had enough money.
Sounds like a suitable response to me.... I don't even know what you're talking about!
you may need to find a hobby you can share?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/cimg4377-jpg
I used to race Competition Electric 10th Scale Touring Cars, was amazingly good fun and dirt cheap. Am trying to get back into it but my local club dosent do Touring Cars or the other class i race. So it's either oval or offroad
The off-road car sounds like a winner! hoorah
More Jenson stuff for Lou although the journalist seems to be more interested in Jessica
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1233940/Jenson-Buttons-girlfriend-Jessica-Michibata-shows-enviably-long-legs-F1-champion-wins-spate-awards.html
Yeah she sounds well into it!
It kinda looks like Damon Hill is standing next to a Madame Tussauds waxwork
ah he looks much nicer there...
This sentence further down confuzles me
"Mr Brown told attendees at the event he was proud to have seen the sportsman take the F1 championship title after a shaky start to the season."
Did Gordon watch a different season? Shaky start??
#ahem
Off-Season
poor guy can't get anything right.. lol
Someone tell the presses and cause a media outcry!!!
Tax write-off? I don't know but it seems strange, all their decisions were wrong right up to the point they sold to Sauber
Right I need bed. Sorry for the blatent non-f1 plug
http://thenorthernwaffler.blogspot.com/2009/12/there-is-god-and-they-call-him-michael.html
Byeeee! lotsa love.
Night Mr GGGG
Leave Gordon alone!!!
Night RG
night RG
This makes the point I was making earlier. Alison slags off Brown and that is fine but as soon as someone says anything about him we are all Scots together and will fight anyone who says anything.
I am happy you accept me to be Scottish!
But also yes, don't mess with us....
Evening everyone :)
evening :)
But you are.
Yes. Nick said because I wasn't born in Scotland, I wasn't allowed to be Scottish. I think this is pretty harsh....
Hey Alex.
Have you been splattering food on walls today>
If you were born in a stable you would not be a horse.
Not today... It's mainly a weekend activity... (As can be seen on http://goforodd.com )
:)
Pat posted this link earlier which sums up the Scottish character
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgzC-l_lmUU
I think that was originally an Oscar Wilde line
I love that clip. I was living in Scotland when I first saw it, and was watching with my boss.. we both cracked up..
Sounds about right....
It's even older... Often attributed to Wilde, but most commonly Wellington. In fact it's even older.
How do you learn things like this?
okay i'm off to sleep now. i'm shattered and feeling slightly ill, i'm going to blame my busy day for my light headedness..
night all! xx
I think it's from a standpoint of essentially never forgetting things... But I do ask everyone an awful lot of questions.
Hehe I suppose that's useful. I'm nowhere near curious enough to amass that level of knowledge.
Really?
Night Lou
Really?
Why do you think you do that? ;)
Yes Daniel O'Connell is the man responsible apparently.
Night lou
I remember a stupid volume of inane information. I get that bit. Somehow that's never quirky knowledge though, it's just dull.
Wellington is one of those people who is often forgotten but is great for quotes... He once, while writing a letter to his brother added a "PS. I believe I forgot to tell you I was made a Duke."
Also he is Mr "Published and be damned" and also "You must build your House of Parliament on the river: so... that the populace cannot exact their demands by sitting down round you."
But that's just presentation surely.
Because i'm...y'know... cool....
I'm trying to see how long i can stay after the library closes before i get kicked out....
Night Lou, hi Alex, misc to people I missed..
I went to get my haircut the other day (evidence in tonight's advent calendar) and the guy who cut my hair told me that a) he had lived in America for 20 years because he went on holiday for 2 weeks all that time ago and enjoyed it that much that he stayed, and b) that he was only back because he was deported by homeland security.
Now I never know, is that a) a story he told everyone and is normal, b) is a story he told everyone but I repeat because I remember stories, or c) a story you had to be in the right frame of mind to tease out. I'm never sure I know.
I like things that go a) b) c) have I ever told you about that ;)
I can't imagine he tells everyone but equally I can't believe you are the only person he told. My experience of people who cut hair for a living is they generally talk about whatever they like regardless of the customer. There was a barber in the town I grew up in who had the sane conversation with every customer despite the fact that by the time you got in the chair you had already heard it ten times. Usually it was about his bowling exploits.
Right... Which means it's b and also a bit of c. I think it takes very little effort to get people to tell you their story. But to be bothered and to be interested is the hard part - I guess. People tell their stories all wrong with everything in the wrong order.
are you still there?
Ack got to go :(
Maybe that is why you are a writer. You find information that the rest of us are not interested in then sort it into an easy to follow sequence
ack, bye?
Turns out they are really well trained...
I stayed for 2 minutes before being asked to leave. Boo
Bye
No fun
Bye Mr Giggles of Andronovshire
They probably want to go home what with it being midnight.
Evening all
Double roadworks on the way home tonight :(
PIIIIIING
oh wait. There's no new daily
#confused
You really don't need that
grr
You are pinging to tell us there is no new thread?
granted, i should have checked
hellllo yesterday!
Giggles Advent Calendar fact: 50% of windows start with the word 'So'
[1st two & last two, so far]
Hi Amy, it looks as though we've reached today now :)
