We have arrived at Sunday, and it is Susie Stoddart's birthday today. With her boyfriend as a significant investor in Williams, what are the chances of her getting a foot in the door of Formula 1 for her birthday? Probably very small, actually, so let's move on to some F1 related things instead.
- Our excellent guest writer Stuart Codling has gone and got himself a blog all of his own. Whilst we'll miss his fabulous posts here, it's great he has a piece of the web to call his own, and I highly recommend that you subscribe right now. Do it now. You know you want to. I'll still be here when you get back.
- A couple of days ago it was confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen will be racing in the World Rally Championship, driving for Citroen. This is great news for keeping the Finn in motorsport, and it may even mean we pay a bit more attention to rallying. Maybe.
- In the comments, Pat pointed out the new ESPN F1 site. They are the owners of F1-Live, and the new site looks kinda fancy, well sourced material, some good pictures, and more importantly, no sign of any unreliable aggregated news. Worth keeping an eye on.
That'll do it for now. There will be a live show later on today, fingers crossed, so hope to see you around about 8pm, but of course, I'll see you in the comments before then too.
pingety ping
Helllllllo Sunday.
Yay for rallying!
Really? Its already 25 degrees. Yay for drinking I say.
nooo.... it can't be sunday! :( however it does mean... we are still in the off season (can't bring myself to count down each day... )
ooh. I forgot to remind you about Rally des Femmes in Canberra yesterday. All female drivers!
Because I will shout at you :)
Helllllooooooooo Wembley
i heard rg is planning a party on saturday too, can our party call rg's party on speaker phone and have an inter-internet-party thing?
party line! $3.95 per minute. speak to REAL girls!
Probably, if Kathi supplies bandwidth?
hello
ooh, win!
Hi Jon
Giggles Advent for today = Amazing
Yeah, first annual RG christmas party. Fun to do that if poss.
Grosjean still yet to get back to his invitation though.
am tired but too stubborn to go to bed this early on a saturday night
Hellllllloooooooo Jon
buy a baguette instead
He's a BB, so therefore not awesome.
I'm never aware of the rule of awesomeness. I know there are pints for it though.
if he's as slow as trulli, would he be at the head of a BBQ?
How was everyones Saturday, and what are they up to for Sunday?
My terms of awesomeness
a) Have the initials RG
b) Have the birthday as 16th April
c) Be called Timo Glock
Can he handle the pressure or wil he crumb--le
Fine apart from the occasional gaffe
homeware shopping:( and looking through catalog for furniture acquisitions. I really should be goin out to tonight but hey, I'm old and now into decorating my apartment. Oh dear. ..when did it all go wrong? And I'm enjoying it!
How was yours?
and you thought is was making this up:
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/12/06/things-ive-learnt-from-farming-today/
Saturday good, productive use of time getting a freezer and visiting the supermarket that shall not be named, plus a new halogen heater. Is there some sort of irony in buying a freezer and a heater in the same day? Dad owed me the freezer as he nicked my old one the previous time I moved. He picked up a Christmas tree while there, and grabbed a rather nice Subway footlong..
Sunday = do nuthin at all. maybe watch another race to blog about.
okay everyone over to the 6th thread so we don't continue to confuse Em :P
Saturday, lazy trip into town. Bus driver took his own route.
Sunday, big game. I say big game, for once we are actually above a good team in the league so its winnable. Scary.
it just broke my mind.
changing threads is confusing :) hehe
i didn't know we grew sugar in this country either. :D thanks christine!
read that as a trip into lazy town.
Tate & Lyle have a huge refining factory near the O2
Mine was great thanks, got up at 6:45, on a bus to Reading at 7:15, here by 8.20. Bummed around for the morning, went to a carvery (£3.50!!!!), ate too much, felt sick. Came back, went to a carol service, chatted and helped clear up, then just watched cool runnings. Sunday...early-ish start, walk to Church then i have no idea whats happening
interesting post
That is what Suffolk is for. Keeps the geese happy as well
Is that near funky town?
:D Oh that would have been, different.
Anyone got a teleportation device or something, or anything? :(
if i did then i wouldn't be here... honestly i wouldn't... #sorryemiloveyoureally...
actual aww
are you feeling better?
Not a bad Sunday for u then- one plan and let the rest flow on
very, very possibly.
Yeah much ta, i always eat too much when i go to a place like that. It's the law
why? Where do you need to be?
Do these ping backs mean steven has a blog? :s
Ignore me :D
I think Doohickey is becoming sentient and is trying to say something
spam. ignore.
:)
Its a long story but today and tonight has been a nasty, nasty combination personally.
Although preferably with Lou if we're gonna be specific :)
oh, wait. not spam.
sorry becken!!
Correct.
i'm still shaking cos your mum shouted at us XD
I decided having an English language blog was too easy so I have a Portugese one
We heart Becken!
About the Cava?
Right. Off to Christmas drinks. Yum!
See yous.
hehe. original article is here:
http://f1around.wordpress.com/2009/12/05/steven-roy-le-seus-artigos-no-sidepodcast/
the speed the pingbacks came in, i assumed the worst, but they're all good.
##shhhhhh
true story.
awwww she is just tired and grumpy ;) i get it all the time
about our sleeping patterns :D
sorry to hear that champ. I hope we can keep you distracted for a while and bring a smile to yur face, or at the very least, an ice cream headache.
What?
You can't call Becken spam.
Hm :-(
Have fun
But it's the weekend
Lou's Mum: Chill ;)
can i take it back?
:( Booo
Your in sidepodcast now, its a nice place.
Byeeeeee
luckily i am in an alcove so i just saw lou's face drop as the door clicked open...it was like, laptops, DOWN, covers, OVER FACES!
See you later Paul
The two of you need to giggle quietly
/bye paul
Do you have C&C? It sounds like you need to blow things up.
This will cheer everyone up.

s'what i meant
Yep, Jon links something wrongly again!
the music factory? Things that make you go hmmmm
hehehehe :D it's funny cause it's true..
couldn't make it up ;)
shhhh, i'll work out whats wrong. i didnt use the link button, i just posted it in like im meant to :(
Good old Command & conquer
Not unless the foohickey is doing time travel.
you know what this means steven...
now you're internationally famous and your fans have spoken and they'd like some more articles, it would seem.
nah just keep posting bad links. It's funny:)
not my fault!! i tried both ways, neither work
LOL at "foohickey"
Is that the Kung Fu version?
i meant the lack of preview.
lemmie see if i can fix.
now I remember. I think I had a friend who was in to that.
foohickey?
*cough* preview button *cough* ;)
If it was really long, just posting it won't work.
i didnt think i'd need to as i just posted it in straight from the url
I think of sidepodcast as international or have you decided that it is its own country now?
tinyurl or bitlyperhaps?
if it were, what would it be called?
or just use the Link button :-)
agreed. but the second time...
no!
I thought we called it Sidepodland?
Didn't we do this when we were thinking of flags?
ahh, yes.
i recopied and posted, i then realised that it wouldnt work, so i tried using the link button and previewed and still wouldnt
That's it
Hang on we have done this before. Sidepodland even had a flag. Maybe the doohickey wants independence from sidepodland
no worries. tis amusing :)
#norecollection
http://bit.ly/7iWudp
PREVIEWED
AND SIGNED
:D yeeeeees
#autonomous sentinence
write some words, select, press Link, put URL between quotes, preview, post
ta, i am aware of how html works ;)
#sometimes
apparently not :-)
If you can search dropio I am sure sidepodflag will show up. I remember doing a flag with a cupcake on it.
oooh. it turns the url into a smiley. interesting, will try and fix that.
no! when jon does that very bad things happen.
Does it come with Finnish lessons?
see ^^
has always worked for me
#nothere
i have "an ability"
:P
jon is special.
fact
you see dead links?
:D :D :D :D
that's going on comment of the year.
thanks ;)
am looking forward to the description of this one ;) :P
Right, I like late kickoffs so I can go to bed later. But still, stuff means I have to go to bed. Darn this having to go to bed business. Night. lotsa love.
Adios Mr G
Only reference I can find to sidepodflag is in the comments here. I tried to link to the comment but when I clik on the comment the url switches to a thread from April. ??
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/12/02/daily-2nd-december-2008/
:) night mr rg. Good luck tomorrow.
Night RG
see ya
G'night RG
have broke the wiki formatting:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Best+Comment+of+the+Year
night chap.
grr YouTube... can't watch anything on it without it stuttering..
that is quite broken. shall investigate right now.
#blameflash
I will sort it
appreciated
I'll go get Brian Blessed then
aaaa,aaahhh
:)
oops. I didn't know you guys were keeping a list up there. Some great comments up there.
Mr C: are you still trying to play with the wiki on Safari?
for sometime post xmas. probably a vote and a prize or something?
sadly.
hehee wiki and you really don't get on do you..... *da ja vu from yesterday*
Firefox!
to slow.
it mocks me.
But it works with the Wiki
#steventotherescue.
sounds a great idea. There's some classics up there. Most I've never seen because I've been a little absent in 2009.
Sorted
:(
perfect, ta.
It has reminded me about my driving blowtorch
How I hardly knew thee...
and this is why I declared once that I was scared of the wiki.
I like that hashtag. Maybe I should trade in #blamesteven and update to #steventotherescue. If only I knew how to use an orange drill
Buy a normal drill and throw Tango at it?
#yearsoftraining
Nah, you know when you've been Bassano'd
electrocution issues.
and some Cash ;)
we can't delete #blamesteven... it was the first hashtag wasn't it? it's vital!
if you need someone to blame... #blamesteven
Elec...tri..city?
In wales everything is run by string, wool and cheerios.
Sudden urge to go eat come cheerios.
*some. Typing in the dark is harder than it sounds.
:D
Cheerios rule!
:-)
i never understood cheerios, as a cereal. i feel i am missing out.
they are yummy :)
Perseverance may be required
Well they're cheery, they're oats, and something something.
I forget the last bit.
was hoping someone would remember a film that was somehow robbed for an Oscar.
Although Frosties are special too, tony the tiger is a hero what with his... Frostiesness.
None of these compare to toast though.
:D
#blamelou or #blameemily?
there was a brief period when i was blamed for things.. but it never made it to a hashtag... so #blamesteven will have to do :P
Get the honey-nut ones.
agreed
I only really remember the name
Ewwwww noooooo.
*although my allergy to nuts may be biased here
every cereal is better in honey nut variety. true fact.
Stallone & Kurt Russell
I still stand by the feeling the toyota unveiling of 2009 was robbed of an oscar damnit. Jarno's awe inspiring reaction of 'Yah' still tingles my spine to this day.
you can blame me i'm never around anywhoo ;)
you allergic to nuts? i did not know this...
including the little weetabix things
oooh that could have been a fun day out
gotta be seen again:
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/01/16/formula-1-in-hd-courtesy-of-toyota/
i literally just thought this.
"remember that time in A and E..."
You will be. You will be addicted just like the rest of us. You will need to come here to find out who Lou has rented your kitten to.
:D
It's sad that everytime I go to a & e i look for either a dr cox or an alan statham :(
:D
okay.... we need to go to sleep before my mum returns to shout some more.. night all! xx
Although half of this quota has kind of actually been ticked off my list as we all already know
:)
yep. I knew someone that had a boxed set of Stallone films an that was in it. I think it's inclusion was...making the set cheaper.
G'night Lou
G'night Em
meanie!!!
true. will consider this when kitten goes missing. night all :)
Gnight :)
see ya.
bug squashed. thank you steven, this should now work:
http://sidepodcast.com/2008/12/02/daily-2nd-december-2008/#comment-155613
you'll be needing a badge like bassano.
Timo, if only you understood at the time what Kobayashi's cameo was meant for!!!!
Good night
Night.
*ouch*
so Lou gets to decide when they go to bed. C'mon Emily! Stand up for your rights ;) night:)
What am I going to do with a badger? I wonder if Lou could lease it as well?
:)
oooops. #sorryrg
Random question - has anyone ever purchased a sofa from ikea and was it any good?
Longevity not great
But if you need a cheap one for a few years, not bad
not what I was hoping to here but not unexpected. Did u have one?
Still do, way past it's sell by date
Still comfy enough, just looks quite shabby
does not bode well for my bed!
Too many unpublishable replies for that
in theory if it looks shabby I can always just cover it. As long as I have a couch to sit down on after a long day at work. Two weeks ago I cooked dinner and turned around thinking that I'd sit on the couch and watch tv. Then I realized I still don't have a couch. Or a tv.
In my experience, IKEA does bookcases, shelves and stuff the best
Sold wood things with few moving parts
;)
That's what i've done
For a cheap sofa, it's been fair I guess
hm
im looking at a sofa bed couch thing and while not expecting too many visitors but need a second bed on standby
just reading becken's post. what happened to clive?
http://f1insight.madtv.me.uk/
hasn't updated in a while, anyone know if he's taking a break?
ah good, that's what my bed is. although perhaps the mattress won't last.
a lot of their stuff looks well made.
Have never been impressed with their kitchens on display
Maybe they aren't assembled very well in situ
ive never bought a heap of ikea stuff but next week with a mate and a car I want to just fill in the blanks and buy everything. I'm here for at least 2 years and want to set up asap and it an easy fix and reasonably cheap too.
Now we know what BMW's plans are for 2010. Sell the F1 programme, cut right back on touring cars (from 5 cars to 2), and expand into GT racing.
Agreed
I just avoid things with hinges from there
I haven't read Clive's blog in a while so I am out of touch.
thanks for the headsup. I don't think I'll be buying that much stuff like that and hopefully won't be buying the cheapest option, just the second cheapest;)
oh yeah their absolute-cheapest stuff doesn't look very durable at all :-)
same here.
i like that becken picked the one show you weren't a fan of, as his favourite too.
I wonder why.
Mr C: Did you see the digi magazine demo from Time?
yup. my guess is that if we're seeing, it has nothing to do with apple.
if it were legit we wouldn't see that before a keynote.
The industry seems to know [or hope] something is coming soon, not just from Apple most likely
hope is the key word. they need a tablet more than apple do.
And if Apple are waiting and/or perfecting such a machine, the anticipation just grows and grows
it is the perfect device. for everyone.
we're already looking at ways spc could work on one. and it doesn't even exist. i don't remember wanting for an IT solution so much before.
ohh Vettel is on TV.
Anything interesting?
why?
He's talking about football :(
See you all later guys. I'm heading offline.
see ya Scott
If it's as affordable as expected [or hoped], it'll be a great media player, email & browsing tool
Like a prettier netbook
With Apps
See ya Scott
has a multitude of uses:
- iphone screen is too small to read text on
- it's the right size to read a novel on
- it's the right size to use in the kitchen, or to read a manual to fix your car
- it's small enough to carry to work
- companies will love it for meetings
- our videos will look stunning on it
- live shows, touchscreen means no mouse clicking. could be an awesome pinger
bye bye.
Interesting.. I was in Comet earlier and was thinking a little netbook might be quite handy.
importantly, it has a micropayment solution built-in.
that is THE killer feature.
it's also what the internet is missing.
If it weren't for the iPad rumours I would've bought a Linux Netbook months ago
Or a second hand MacBook
Slighly related
Apple just bought a music streaming company
Lala
http://www.tuaw.com/2009/12/04/lala-bought-by-apple-streaming-itunes-store-around-the-bend/
thereoretically should be rather popular then
that could work too. am going off last.fm due to half the tracks being wrongly titled and tagged.
im watching cycling.... as part of the V8 Supercars telecast. Hmm.
First street race in Sydney. I really should be there. I spent all my ticket money on this tv - i'm going to use it!
Bit disappointing when Channel 7 calls it a HD channel and it is broadcasting in 576i
Spotify any better?
I still favour my own collection
Genius mix isn't a bad feature
they were supposed to have fixed that with the fingerprinting initiative
I thought HD was 720 minimum
and it is much better than it used to be
getting there. ads are annoying, we may go for paid version soon. christine's in charge of that.
they're missing quite a lot of songs though.
keep getting live songs, when it claims i'm listening to the album track.
Street race? Didn't know that.
Eastern Creek is the one near Sydney isn't it, did they move from there?
exactly! false advertising.
ah yeah
yes, it is at Sydney Olympic Park. Well done V8 peoples.
The track looks rather narrow and is incredibly bumpy, but looks like good entertainment.
not the end of the world. but not ideal either.
Someone just put this impressive 'gear-up' landing on the drop
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/2006-5-5-kingairgearup-wmv
If it gets more people to attend and comes over well on telly, then great!
I'm still a big fan. Even if I think it should still be called Audioscrobbler.
wow!
agreed.
hehe.
stunning!
someone motivate me to go shopping please.
For food?
Hunger will do that for you soon enough probably
night, good sidepodpeople :-)
go shopping!
what do you need?
no, sadly for boring stuff like a duvet cover.
Pah, it can wait if you want
Evening
noo thats not helpful I need to go today. I am also going to suss out some things for Spa trip which should be exciting me!
Then Shooooo!
already??
go to a big store and test all the mattress just for the fun of jumping on them? look for colourful and funny duvets?
The only thing we should be sussing out now is the ticket and hotel. Everything else can wait.
have you learned nothing from my super organisation? :D
Ticket is awaiting delivery [and probably printing]
Hotel is on the 'to do' list
am not expecting it to be sent for months yet.
Note for Giggles:
Chateaux is a plural of Chateau
maybe he has more than one
I am scared my Monza ticket will be sent after I leave for London. Why are not all races like Melbourne and send them out 5 months in advance :D
If Silverstone is confirmed I might go for a General Admission for Sunday only
I'm sure they'll be with you before June at the minimum
if affordable i could be tempted into that instead of goodwood
they sell those?
I think so
I was considering it this year
fair enough. i though hill said they couldn't afford to do that.
Maybe I'm wrong
It's the only way I'll consider it
Rally Germany is the weekend before Spa. I'm thinking about visiting my parents and then travel to Spa via the rally. But then I wouldn't be able to travel with you :(
We'll have most of the weekend to socialise together
Estimated £120 for Sunday General Admission
[based on 2009]
Maybe not
ouch
WOW!
sounds about right. most expensive gp on the calendar.
And they wonder why they can't make any money
Sell more for less!
I can't believe it costs more than Monaco GA
it's a sellout?
They are still in the mindset of restricting tickets for traffic reasons, despite the new roads
There have been bigger crowds in the past than go now, I'm sure of it. Say the Mansell era.
total expenditure is more over the monaco weekend. but tickets are more expensive, i believe.
woah, Sunday only in Melbourne is $99 aka around £55
possibly. are the grandstands still there?
there wasn't a spare seat in the place in '08.
Normally they sell all the tickets but they have an artificially low crowd to guarantee the traffic is good enough for Bernie who uses a helicopter.
where else can people go? there wasn't an empty seat anywhere.
Silverstone 2010 Moto GP Weekend tickets start at £60
There is plenty of space for more stands outside the pitstraight area.
the support categories for Melbourne have been released as well: V8 Supercars, Australian GT, Mini Challenge Series, Formula 5000 Tasman Cup Revival and Formula Fords.
The Historic Demonstration theme is Milestones of Italian Motorsport to mark the 100th anniversary of Alfa Romeo
There used to be a lot more stanfing/wandering people
Shouldn't someone be shopping right now? :)
not really, it's all corporate stuff isn't it. where would you put another grandstand?
Yes. SHOO!
Shops have chocolate.
I found out they close at 6, that gives me 4.5 hours to organise myself.
I'd happily sit on the grass somewhere safe
not sure. ground gets very muddy after three days of rain and standing room was four people deep two years ago.
Standing is also good :D
Outside of Abbey.
The whole length of the bit between Stowe and Club.
I'd knock down the stands at Luffield and build bigger ones.
And while I was at it I'd remove the Hangar Straight bridge because it blocks the view for the high camera at Stowe (watch the 70s races).
Amy, is your channel 7 hd coming in at better than 576i?
mine is PrimeHD but I'm cranky!
How would she know?
Do they tell you the resolution?
I have no idea how to check
my tv has an info button that tells me. my friends old LG plasma has one too. I'm hoping her Sony does
Dad just upgraded his Sky to HD.. he showed me Discovery HD. That's impressive.
You are not going shopping today. When you think you have 4.5 hours to get ready it is a certainty you will use all that time and then some.
people can no longer cross the bridge.
it's all corporate viewing. there's no longer any space?
hmm I shall have a look
You can see Amy's telly from Sydney?
How do you know what make of TV she has?
who says im in sydney today? maybe im in melbourne. ok, nah.
The bridge at Bridge? They could at the touring car meeting in 2008.
Is it? No idea.
I was thinking of getting an HD TV for the living room
Think I'll just wait until LED gets cheaper now
#stalkingamy
it's closed during the weekend to the public. none shall pass.
yup.
samsung Series 8 50 inch Plasma. Is plugging my recent purchase ok? :P
Ah. And I've just remember the touring car meeting used the national circuit :-)
Lol at the *provisional for every race on the FIA's F1 page
Why not just say "Provisional Calendar"?
http://www.formula1.com/races/calendar_preview.html
all i'm saying, is, i don't think it's a simple problem to solve.
the tickets are price and the race is a sellout.
ok, info button says the picture is 1080i
hmmm. i wonder if regional tv is ripping me off then - Prime is not equal to 7 even though they run the same shows. i could see the difference in picture straight away compared to 9 and 10's 'HD' channels.
thank you :-)
that was an effort and a half, i don't watch tv through my tv so I had to struggle around with plugging the aerial back in :D
you are too nice to me. i may have to send you an xmas present soon.
that will be unnecessary!
well i've had a brilliant day so far chatting on SPC, but I will disappear now to watch the V8s. happy, happy day.
later sir.
bye jeremy
Incidentally, they've planned the new pitlane wrongly. They ought to have put it on the outside of the track with viewing areas on top of the corporate boxes, to give a view back up to Stowe. Right now the corporates are going to pay over the odds for a track below them and a view of fields.
bye!
Bye Jeremy
fair point. will the people inside be watching the race though?
It'll be interesting to see the new section of track though, to see if it works.
Probably not!
I'm gonna go as well, sleep time. and I feel a lie-in coming on.
g'night.
Me too, see ya Pat
Night all
Night Pat
night pat
People are leaving in batches again. Night Bassano
and night bassano
:)
Home :D
A whole half hour early. Must be my lucky day.
see ya tomorrow.
It's a 'gosh, look at the time thing'
Well done
hello.
hi alison
I have made goats cheese on toast to celebrate....
Time for bed. Goodnight all.
night steven.
will you share?
night steven
I would have.... Alas I have scoffed it all. Too excited for my own good.
I don't think I've ever had goats cheese. I'm intrigued now.
I had once but didn't have cow cheese to compare, so I don't know which is the difference in taste... :-(
am now going to have to go find some cheese.
:)
I have some in the fridge, and some quince sweet (of the solid kind)...
I may have to visit the fridge now ;-)
I am thinking marmite and cheese on toast will be a good first meal. And I'm so not going shopping today.
the race is years away anyhow.
brb.
#sidepodmotivationfail
It's Finnish independence day and holiday today. You're just celebrating that. hyvää itsenäisyyspäivä!
its not sidepodfault, its the fact I remembered that I hate shopping on weekends because of the crowds, and I'm finishing work early on Wednesday so I can go then :D
hyvää itsenäisyyspäivä indeed!
oops hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää
I didn't finish all of today's task list :-(
but I need to sleep. see you tomorrow (today actually...)
Mr C!!!! He went off in search of cheese... And never came back... Do you think he entered the kitchen and fainted? Do you think I should call Emergency Services? I can imagine the call...
999: What's your emergency?
Me: Mr C has fainted in the kitchen due to all the cooking stuff
999: That can happen... We shall send police, fire and ambulance.
Me: Fire?
999: He might have turned the oven on.
Me: No chance.
999: Well if he's fainted we'll need to winch him up.
Me: Good point.
999: Do you have an address
Me: Sidepodtowers, Rockall
999: I thought they'd moved
Me: Oh yes... Sidepodtowers, Slightly further up Rockall.
999: Bonza! We're on it!
Good news Parade Lap fans... Etherpad is back:
http://etherpad.com/ep/blog/posts/etherpad-back-online-until-open-sourced
Morning, folks. :D
Have read and commented (although still in moderation) on Stuart's first proper blog entry - brilliant writing from Stuart, as always. :)
Morning!
...I had no idea he had wandered off in there alone...
If you want something to look at this fine sunny day, then have a look at this
http://gulfnews.com/pictures/news/your-pictures-of-cars-decorated-for-national-day-1.542842
December 2nd was national day here, and for some reason over the past couple of years the big thing to do is to decorate your car patriotically
Big business and several government departments hold competitions with prizes for the winners .
Love it.
Just checked with Mr C who said sleepily that he didn't even get the cheese. He got distracted by something else, completely forgot, felt tired and came to bed.
I can confirm he did not faint in the kitchen... because he didn't even get that far.
phew! If he doesn't go into kitchens generally he certainly shouldn't go unsupervised. He might use the wrong knife or something ;)
We are out and about this morning. It's cold in this courtyard. But at least it's not raining.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-357
What is that silver thing?
it's a big pile of silver balls by Anish Kapoor (it might well have a different name). We're at the royal academy.
I've braved the wrath of the queue to get a better picture for you:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-358
Is the Queue just to get in or is there something special happening today?
just to get in. But it is special. The exhibition is sold out!
Ah, I hope its a good one!
Have you considered walking up to the front of the queue and pretending to look like you know what you are doing?

Yooooong is heading up a "Lotus F1 Racing" young driver programme for Asia..

that would have been a good idea. But we're in now :)
eeew... i think that is supposed to a big paan stain...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paan
Funnily enough Nick I think this might be only the third thing we've ever queue for here. One of the others was Chihuly who made that Atlantis sculpture out in Dubai
Ah i have seen that.
I think the best description i heard about it was that it was "classiness masquerading as the height of tack" or something similar
http://z.about.com/d/travelwithkids/1/0/y/e/1/sculpture.jpg
Hey all :) I see giggles has seen some of Anish kapoor's work!! I'm very jealous, I'm studying him as part of my textiles work atm.
Everyone having a nice morning?
I am working... But still sick so it is not that great, on the plus side I am doing it from home :)
I'm here right now :)

I was about to ask if she has a corner folding problem... but that is just perfect whatever it is!
Hello Mr C, have you found the cheese this morning?
Oooh Alex, I have news to report! I witnessed Nick using a bookmark.....
Really now... :D How? Webcam?
Oh, and hello. ;)
No, it was before I just forgot about it until now.... There were train tickets in books. It was good times.
Ahhh. Most interesting, that.
*Note to self: Look for old conversations on bookmarks in the archives
:D
erm?
we were really concerned for your welfare.
ohhh right. i forgot :)
thing is, when i got up i realised i was cold, so went to bed. i must've been more tired than i knew.
hello!
yeah, I ended up eating my cheese alone... ;-)
oh no!
when I got mine I discovered someone else in this house has been eating my cheese :(
who moved your cheese? ;)
Mouse or Human?
don't worry, by that hour my brain was shuting down. my memory of the event will be short ;-)
:)
I have an oyster card over here though, so the problem reappears...
not me! I have internet records that show I was 20000km away
something that can wield a knife judging by the way it had been hacked at :(
Booo...
Dancer?
who teach such things to mouses. don't they know it's dangerous?
only to cats.
and to cheese owners, it seems :-)
It's marvellous to see Rubens like this. He seems to be a great dad :-)
Time to go for me, some work to do *outside*... see you later! (at what time is the live show?)
hehe, later sir.
Awwwwwwwwwwww
See ya guille
See you!
Oooh live show... it says 8pm, so thats midnight my time...
I will bring snacks ;)
MorningAfternoon. I got up at 1pm. D'oh! Bed was too comfy and I wanted sleep. Have been down to recycling centre to ditch the packaging for the freezer, and my old pc box.I'm now going to get some soup..
Does anybody listen to the Open Paddock podcast? I've just discovered it, not listened yet though. Any good?
You want a goat's cheese salad. Strong but lovely.
:-) :-)
I thought you were "sick" shouldn't you be getting an early night?
That has to be one of the most annoying things on Earth. You can't mess with cheese.
:( I am
But i missed so many...
Yeah right... How do you even get a cold when you live somewhere so hot!!
Hey everyone. I can confirm playing football with a cold doesn't really help.
Coming from a guy in the tropics, it can happen - pretty often, too. Hot areas and tropics are more susceptible to wild swings in temperature.
I still don't buy that you can get sunburn and a cold on the same day!
Excellent!
I pronounce myself Exhibit A!
You don't trust Nick now? Tsk tsk. :P
She has more bookmarks than anyone else I know!
:)
PING: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/06/shell-v-power-challenge-your-questions-answered/
all i'm saying, is, i don't think it's a simple problem to solve.
the tickets are price and the race is a sellout. {Comment #360}
You're right. Silverstone's north and south ends are practically encased with grandstands. The straights connecting them aren't, but the general admissions people need somewhere to go because that is how quite a lot of people get introduced to spectating at Silverstone.
The new layout is slightly longer, but it looks like the old layout is being preserved as a possible track configuration, so it won't produce any new space for grandstands.
What they could do with is having some of the spectators on the inside - the one grandstand that wasn't full was the grandstand near the pits (it was probably reserved for paddock guests, but there weren't enough of them to fill the grandstand even on race day, partly because some guests prefer watching in the garages or motorhomes). If they could have the rest of that grandstand filled with paying spectators, plus figure out a way of using the adjoining bank as general admission without people either wandering into the paddock or interfering with the helicopter traffic, they could probably get another 10,000 in the venue for the price of some extra staff and barriers.
Beyond that, it gets sticky. And expensive.
http://www.patronisef1.com/index.php/f1-news/1680-silvy-set-to-announce-british-gp-deal
I linked to this because it mentioned this:
Todt the peacemaker? That took me a bit by surprise - he's normally not the type...
What is this I don't even...
Have a quick question for any VB2008 users... is there a way for my project so that, when I create a new form, I can have a set default layout for the new form? Rather than having to copy and paste a layout from form to form, if you get what I mean...
Well, if anything, Todt is always determined to improve the standing of whatever company he's working for (Peugeot, Ferrari), and the FIA is no exception.
He probably understands that a British GP is crucial for the sport, and he did what needed to be done to pull it off.
If this is the kind of Todt we'll see as FIA president, I'm all for it.
in vb.net? not that i'm aware of. why have you got multiple forms with the same interface?
Could of course just be due to some nudging from his Deputy President for Sport - Graham Stoker
Part of the requirements of our assignment is to have a website-like appearence, to have a single set layout with the main area obviouslty changing depending on whats happening. Like if you're on Amazon and you obviously have the homepage, when you search for an item you'll still have the header, log in options etc. but with search results appearing
The MSA - of course! Good spot Mav.
Hear hear. A British GP is for the good of the sport, and Bernie has become too greedy. He's obviously a Viking because he really does believe he can take it all with him. Expect him to be buried in a sarcophagus shaped like a boat big enough to hold all of his cash and deep underground to take him on his journey to Valhalla ;)
Now there's something I would never have expected. Not so much him as a peacemaker, because I recognise he's a good manager of people, but him being the one to smooth BRDC/BE relations..
aha, could be..
I guess it had to be him - the FIA is the only other key stakeholder that is neutral and has sufficient influence over both parties.
ahh right. you can make a custom control which displays the default layout, and then drop that onto every new form. quite a bit of work though.
not sure there's an easy way to make a template. soz.
On that note, I love Giggles' dig at Fourstar on his advent calendar :D
Is this the first (vaguely) visible thing he's done since being elected?
If true, yes.
I guess he's keeping a low profile in contrast to Mr Max. Which isn't a bad thing in your first few months in office.
Still wanna know who the F1 Commissioner will be, though, especially in the context of all these Merc-Schumi talks.
Allright, off to football then. Will probably miss the debrief so have fun and see you tomorrow!
Have a good one.
I might watch some A1GP in a minute, although I should do something more constructive first
If Max kept a low-profile - would be very nervous about what he was up to!
Todt the peacemaker? That took me a bit by surprise - he's normally not the type... {Comment #522}
FIA does something unequivocally good for F1 shocker! Yippee! Let's hope Jean Todt does stuff like this more often :D
Afternoon guys
I'm just watching on YT "The Secret Life of Formula 1" and I've just watched a part where Alan Henry speaks about all the electronic aids. He says that appaently there was a plan to introduce some form of standard ECU and give it to all the team some years ago but at the time it was scrapped because it was thought this would scare all the manufacturers away because it crossed over with their own technology.
This got me thinking - is it possible this could be one of the reasons, aside from everything else, that manufacturers like Honda, Toyota and BMW left F1? Think about it - pretty much all 3 of those car makers are known in some shape or form for their technological capabilities and innovations (don't ask me what they are exactly, I'm not sure myself). With a standard ECU in F1, maybe they took the view that the sport was moving away from a technological showcase and therefore with out an arena to try out their innovations, they would not be as effective.
I'm probably all wrong on this one, but it did get me into thinking that maybe there was a link.
I might watch some A1GP in a minute, although I should do something more constructive first {Comment #539}
There's A1GP today? I missed that...
Perhaps old races?
No it's an old one I've not had time to watch.
It could have been a factor, but that alone wouldn't have swayed them away from the sport. The manufacturers probably didn't like it, but they could've lived with it.
It may have been a contributing factor along with the other restrictions like the rev limit, will-we-won't-we have KERS. The main reason was still the downturn I think, 'cos these decisions are coming from very high up.
That's why I said "aside from everything else".
Indeed so. :)
I have been having a very odd afternoon... But then that's what happens when http://goforodd.com challenges are being dealt with. Video to appear shortly :)
It's a sore point at work...
In a jokey way of course...
http://mantovani.zip.net/
New stuff! :D A Rubens wallpaper (a classy one!) for Lukeh, and a cure Dan Gurney cartoon to boot.
That is awesome
Can i ask an excel question, as this is beyond me... If there is anyone here who can help i would be most happy ;)
If i have a coulum of text cells which have "speech marks" around all the phrases, is there any way to remove them?
I dont think the usual way will work as excel uses them to denote text?
I cant seem to get SUBSTITUTE or REPLACE to do it?
You need to escape the character a double double quote does it... eg
So to indicate a double quote you madly have to write """" which is 1 x " to start you off, 1 x " to end, and then in the middle "" to indicate ;no I actually meant to include this " here'.
Excel notes text by using a single apostrophe as the first text character in the cell. Any quote marks other than that can be removed.
So you should be fine in removing quotation marks ("), but not apostrophes (')
Aha, genius :D
Thanks
Thanks!
Thats good to know as chances are i would eventualy have done that...
The " marks weren't my fault though :P
Nick if you want to just chuck all " marks you could just use find and replace...
Ive done it now, but in the future would that work without disrupting formulas?
I am very proud of myself... Managed to fit in a quick run to the supermarket before closing time. Totally forgot about stupid Sunday trading hours....
This is fantastic :)

Rowan Atkinson is just a legend!
Where has that come from? :)
And are there any more? :D
It's from the QI Advent calendar but I've no idea of the origin. Probably the brilliant mind of Rowan Atkinson :)
Which leads me onto the announcement of Toro Rosso's second driver for 2010...
Hehehehe.
His head's a bit too big in proportion with his neck and body, but it's still good :D
Tis the intention...
I have more goats cheese #sorrymrc

If anyone is bored waiting for the debrief I think you'll like the new Go For Odd Challenge: http://goforodd.com/2009/12/challenge-2-art/
Oooh linky to your advent calendar Alex? I haven't seen it today.
http://gigglesadvent.com/
Thankies!! Woop woop. Love it....
The key line from Katherine which might sell it to you for this... "I don't want to miss the wall splat"... I also ruin a perfectly good shirt! :)
ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/06/jerez-test-december-2009-roundup/
:D:D:D
The length of the initial attempt is fantastic. Blue Peter has nothing on this
The moment of realisation of how badly it has gone wrong is something I really love :)
I think you both got it instantly as to how much it was going to fail :P
Also Katherine's laughter throughout makes it even funnier
It really did... We just had Joe pop round to visit to pick up his... um... device that he lent us... and we watched it on the tv in the living room. The laughter track was great!
Evening all. How are things?
evening. working inside here, when outside there is one of the most beautiful days of spring so far :-(
Sounds about right! Am I right to assume the debrief is on at the normal time?
Says 8pm in the thread
*checks* oh, yeah! Are they aware the car show starts at half past/
Live debriefs > car show ;)
true!
Live debriefs > car show >>>>>>>>>>> football.
Can ya guess my current mood?
Silly Everton :(
Is it the same mood as when your team scored 9?
Possibly not.
DVD FTW
#nothere
err, DVR
:P
also iPlayer!
not in the slightest :)
So is everyone having a good evening?
Struggling to remember even the simplest things with VB but getting there slowly. Has been years and years since ive used it properly.
Spotify is keeping me sane :)
I do a lot of vb still sadly (vba to be honest)
I would rather not be sitting in front of the computer, but yeah
but sitting in front of computers is the only way to listen to such great things as the live show tonight (and also my own show for example which contains humous: http://goforodd.com )
It's annoying because my method of working with it goes like this:
Visualise plans in mind based on assignment briefing and what goes where
-
Set everything up visually on VB 2008
-
Forget how to code/what code to put in
-
Read VB books
-
Give up!
:D
oh dear. Have you tried stackoverflow.com ?
Nooooooo... *looks*
Lukeh I did I say I'd help :P
Subaru are joining the Intercontinental Rally Championship
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80451
what's that mean then?
Eek! All my buttons have randomly disappeared on VB.
Has jenson organised a family reunion I haven't heard about?
They're kinda getting back in to rallying proper since they left the WRC.
Ooh they're back now. don't do that, VB!
PING: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/06/live-as-happy-as-disco-dan/
Max made a worse job of the WRC than he did with F1. They had so many rallies wanting a WRC round and were trying to cut costs so instead of picking the best they had the hair-brained idea of rallies alternating. So classics like the Monte-Carlo, Finland, GB are in the WRC one year and out the next. Needless to say someone saw the opportunity and set up a rival championship -the IRC- which has far more sensible technical regulations and a far more competitive field. Subaru have been a staple of the WRC since the early 90s. They pulled out a year or two ago and now they are back with the rival as are other manufacturers.
ahh, so why did kimi go to wrc then?
Alex Yoong joins Lotus
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80446
because WRC still has the best cars. IRC uses cars similar to the support series of WRC (S2000 and N4 cars).
and it is still the world (rally) championship. At least for the moment.
There is no money for drivers in the IRC and the WRC cars are faster and more advanced. THE WRC is still higher profile because it is the world championship. If the WRC people had any sense they would adopt the IRC tech regs and sort out the claendar to put the classics back on their own calendar.
Imagine the Monaco GP being in an alternative championship every second year. It's insane
they're supposed to be doing that. S2000 regulations (but with a more powerful engine) should become obligatory in 2011 or 2012, after a transition year. And starting next year they have a new company taking care of the promotion/spectacle thing (kind of Bernie). the question is if they'll arrive to 2012...
Greetings Earthlings!
Is the countdown to H-Hour for todays live show still counting down normally or does Sidepodcast have a worse holding pattern than London-Heathrow ?
Hi Jordan, apologies I forgot to change the focus to the live thread. Please join us: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/12/06/live-as-happy-as-disco-dan/
i want to be here...
'21:39 Just as in 2008, this year's AUTOSPORT Awards kicked off in triumphant fashion, as the 1,200 guests rose in unison to applaud new world champion Jenson Button as he made his way down the grand staircase into the Great Room.'
Dear Mr Giggles.
That was the best vodcast i've ever seen. EVER
Jon
*reloads doohicky, moves back to the daily, then opens iplayer in a separate tab*
See you in about a hour!
*sits in daily land*
Back in the Daily. I'm gonna retrieve my food then there's TG but I'm not sure whether to watch it now, may follow Autosport live updates
http://live.autosport.com/commentary.php/id/171
No F1 news today I guess?
First show in ages with no mention of the b word
Oh yeah, happy days
He did say he had sorted the bandwidth out
Maybe that's part of it
Mr C spent a whole night this week at his mother's fixing the wi-fi. He's in danger of knowing what he's doing.
:D
Christine's Mother-in-Law's WiFi FTW!
That could be dangerous.
ok. time to go. see you later/tomorrow
Night Guille
see ya
See ya Guille

Just catching up on Top Gear on the iplayer. Hammond's hair is getting bigger every year. Two more years and he will look like http://covers.mp3fiesta.com/covers/36/3690/art_3690_big.jpg
it has Ant in it!!! :)
it does indeed :P ickle ant
:D
harsh!
Jake, Jenson, and Ross are at the awards! awesome :)
pioneering and innovation award is won by f1 in schools?
we saw that at autosport int. '07. have they done anything new?
okay i neeeed to get on with my work... see ya later!! xx
new classes (gt ones now et al) but generally the same principle. tis a good scheme
there was a big deal made about this year wasn't there?
night lou.
i agree.
but pioneering?
bye lou
Oh yeah, we forgot to shoo you!
night lou!
byeee
as pictures go, that is rather lovely:
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1323779
for kids, yes. my old school did it, was amazing for kids, teaches them loads.
fair enough. seems odd to me.
your vote for car of the year?
(for a man who claims not to care, i find myself slightly addicted)
ditto
is there some sort of live thing going?
umm. car of the year, Pug 90(whatever number we're up to now)
autosport live comments:
http://live.autosport.com/commentary.php/id/171
I agree that it has been around a while, but it is a pioneering idea. I'm not sure if this award specifically has to relate to something that appearing in the last 12mths, unlike the others.
you can't give the brawn car of the year though? over newey's masterpiece.
have decided i can't do anymore work this evening... and am going to watch top gear instead.. so i'm back again...
#sorrymrcfornotleaving
also... YAY for the Brawn winning an award :D
F1 or not?
F1 I'd pick the Brawn. Overall... choice between the Peugeot 908 and Brawn..
That really was the most predictable award EVER
boo
It was fastest.
Pug pour moi
I thought the BMW was v....
Ah, even as a fan I can't deny it was awful.
all motorsports.
Just what I was typing when you interrupted me mid-sentence!
The Brawn was in the making since the Jurassic period for heaven's sake. Newey's RB5 was undoubtedly the fastest on the grid for most of the season and will be the one people copy for next year.
but... it was soo good at the beginning of the season it dominated soo many races... plus they only made 3.. and i'm soo biased :) hehe
Even over the 'RG's Awesome Man of the Year' award?
oooh oooh i know this one....
Ned
Perhaps they feel they can't give it to the car that came second. I don't remember them ever giving the award to the car that came second, even if it was technically better
you can't win this one :P
#doubledeckdiffuser
Okay, maybe it doesn't seem predictable :D
They should change it to "package of the year" then
Is there an award for 'Bless, they tried there best with a poor car' award?
yep i believe honda got it last year ;)
And the winner is, force india! ;)
Clearly that would go to my 2006 STCC Season
#neeeeeeerd
Oh...
You entered the Swedish Touring Car Championship?
Newey gets a Bolster Award..
And now Newey wins an award for technical excellence. He can't design a racing car which Autosport can recognise as being the best though :-)
He must have one of those already
ahem
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/cimg4377-jpg
I see the Swedes have had to cut costs a bit...
ahh :-)
Why are Greggs jam foughnuts so good?
Because they're inspired by the sausage rolls to taste good
Because Lukeh says so ;)
Oh no wait, that's sausage rolls. Or both.
C4 wins rally car of the year, is there an F1 car of hte year tooo?
I think so
good point.
Actually no I think it is just racing car of the year
aha. because the c4 isnt a racing car. you is smart mr roy
just explaining to christine what a foohickey is...
They had to appease the rally fans..
it isn't?
Woohoo it took me two times to make it due to my xbox's inability to survive but I've finally made my GT40 look nice on Forza 3 :)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lukehmuse/4164505060/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lukehmuse/4164504966/
No. It is a rally car
well....kinda....
depends how you define racing car.
It isn't. It is a rally car. Apparently there is a difference.
oh.
what be the difference?
Looks great
it dosent "race"
what's the difference?...
ooooohhh
I likey that.
One does races and the other ralies
ah makes sense.
and racing cars don't rally
Has anyone told Kimi?
do we class rallycross as racing? because they race?
Only thing that annoys me is that I can't change the bonnet, and it has a middle bit sticking up where it dips down
We class rallycross as odd.
At least you have an XBOX that works :(
for lou:
"Gary Savage, Managing Director of Citroen UK"
used to be at honda, right?
Rallycross is awesome.
Have you sent it off yet?
Good question. I guess it is racing. Of course its really just something they could put on TV without getting in trouble with the Ministery of Agriculture
I've got the label I need - only it's a digital one and I need to print it off. And we have a printer, we just haven't set it up yet since we only got it recently and haven't had a chance to. :/
Because of t' Foot and Mouth Disease.
eeeer..... he was their Deputy Technical Director right?...
The review of the renault twingo on top gear is awesome!
I ♥ the Twingo
Haven't got to that bit yet
me neither
You wait...
I agree!
don't know. name rings a bell, wondered if he'd be working with kimi.
I always wanted an old school twingo. I don't think they ever made proper ones with right hand drive though.
scheckter on stage. no pigs apparently :(
Mum always wanted one - they didn't
How odd
Boooooooooooooo!!!
Enzo Ferrari gets an award??
Is he there to collect it?
a google search suggests he was with the team from 2004 -2006.. so i take it Jorg Zander took over from him in 2007...
before Jorg Zander?...
Right, bed, bye. lotsa love.
anyone else say that in Kathi's voice?
adios mr rg
night
see ya :)
bye, bye.
They were just talking about a panda on Never Mind The Buzzcocks :D
yep
Night RG
awww Lewis gets to give an award to Ron...
nope, but ron is?
Jenson Button isn't his son
:D
That's nice.
bah, Twitter broke
and I seem to have lost all BBC channels from Freeview
I still haven't managed to get any other channels apart from BBC on freeview since the new windows. Its so annoying :( All I want is Dave!
In retrospect that last sentence seems odd.
am confused why two awards are called the gregor grant award?
Watch Dave here http://www.tvcatchup.com/guide.html
I'm telling Lou!
I now see what people are refering to ala twingo
for all the Top Gear episodes you missed?
Sometimes there is one winner and sometimes two. Gregor Grant was the founder of the MAGAZINE
:D
I want to watch them 5 times a day
:D ehehe if it were Rubens i'd understand... but Dave! ;)
Of course, it was only a magazine then
ahhhh. i see.
:D
i'm gonna go out on a limb and say they missed a trick not giving the racing car of the year award to roary. he sang on a charity record for goodness sakes.
can someone remind me to go to the autosport awards next year please? maybe i can 'famously' approach a Lorenzo, or Darren Heath and ask for a job?... and the story can be told year after year about how they tutored me etc... ;) *is fed up with hearing about how lewis approached Ron at the autosport awards...* ;)
with PINGU!
gregor grant award for best supporting role.
Then you can present Jenson with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 10 years time after he's won 7 more championships ;)
How do you get a ticket to go anyways?
True dat.
I think you need to be invited. Is there public access
it's their biggest claim to fame :)
Pingu or Kobayashi... hmm.
That and Brundle slagging off the steak on-stage last year.
ooh didn't know that!
nooo clue...not sure the public can go... who knows.. i may be an agency photographer's assistant by then...#inmydreams
oh is there nothing James ruddy Corden isn't involved with?
why on earth is James Corden giving out the award? that's just strange...
Think it was quip that went perhaps a touch too far and upset the organisers of the event. All over a chewy bit of beef.
Hahaha.
its going to be Jenson.
Whaddya know eh?
didnt see that coming
#itsfixed ;)
hehe :) predictable but i'm still happy for him. he deserves this year in the lime light... Lewis wont let him have another one in a while...
Is he now Button's official hanger on?
Oh I seriously hope not.
clearly wants his shoes back
Don't know if you can buy tickets but I know who you need to contact to find out
http://www.haymarket.com/autosport/multi/autosport_awards_awards/default.aspx
It's like Jimmy 'Five Bellies' and Gazza all over again (look it up kids) :-(
It's a non-public event and they (Haymarket/AUTOSPORT) invite you to come along it seems.
Is there an event happening that has caused Twitter to crash? How come it goes down now and not during the World Cup draw?
was there a public vote for any award, or just internal?
http://www.istwitterdown.com/
the one kris meeke won was a public vote
You could vote for the Rookie of the Year award via autosport.com and, if you were any good at origami and didn't mind mascaraing your magazine, you could also vote for a few of the categories as well.
oh right.
who?
and the initial young driver nominees are done publicly, but then they are put down to 5 or 6 and then a panel chooses the winner
Tweetdeck disagrees!
Why does the link on there take you to a Kool & The Gang CD?
actually, don't answer that :)
Deary me. :-)
IRC
Like WRC, but better
ooooh, that was what it was about?
right, with you now.
I just found out who else was in the running, and you were right, very uninspiring!
"Meeke, who beat Jaime Alguersuari, Romain Grosjean, Sebastien Buemi, Nico Hulkenberg, Rafael Matos, Sebastien Ogier, Daniel Ricciardo and Alexander Sims to claim the award, accepted his trophy from 13-time grand prix winner David Coulthard."
who? oh wait.
wow, ive heard of 7 of them.
thats a surprise. the best man won
'ere, hold on. Button wins INTERNATIONAL driver of the year as well?
Hmm...

ere, hold on. Button wins INTERNATIONAL driver of the year as well? {Comment #815}
That's because it's for performances in international-level events in general, which includes F1. The categories are not mutually exclusive...
