It's Friday at last, and that means we're heading into another weekend. We know that Jon is busy this weekend, and will most likely return sans voice, but what are you up to? Let us know. Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Peter Sauber is not at all happy with BMW and their decision to essentially stop him buying the team. We've covered this in F1 Minute, and F1 Big Picture as well, but Sauber says this is the worst time in his entire motorsport career history. That is pretty bad!
- Mr Brawn has admitted that he can totally see Schumacher winning at some point in this season, if not at Valencia. The Ferrari appears to be on the way up, and Ross knows how the man works, I guess.
- Yesterday, Whitmarsh has said they aren't giving up on this year's car. Having won their first victory of the year, McLaren are going to keep on developing, and are hoping that this car will be the basis of next year's as well. It better had be, or they'll just repeat this year again, won't they?
That'll do it for now, I reckon. Don't forget to let us know if you have exciting plans for the weekend, and equally if you're not. I'll see you in the comments.
I seek refuge in Friday.
Aaaah that's better.
So......Jon Waldock is the 2CV Ted?
typo alert
am on it!
done. cheers.
Perhaps it was meant to be "one, there first victory...."
The other mode of transport was frizbee. Also on the drop.
Although i'm not here :)
Spectacular action, you should take up "ultimate"
mornings, bah.
'tis a Friday tho
my alarm isn't due to go off for another 10 minutes but I've been up an hour. Stupid presale ticket timing.
Did you get the tickets>?
Rob Thomas?
Let's try todays thread instead ;)
Amy, how did the chocloate milk saga end?
Evening
Well, that got quiet all of a sudden. Something I said? :)
hi there.
Work keeps getting in the way.
I can't believe I forgot about that.
Hey Mr C
What's the latest?
I'm mighty concerned about the chocloate milk spillage aftermath, any news?
I hate that
am coding (for a change). new spc stuff for your viewing pleasure this weekend(ish).
i think she lived.
Cool
Phew, that was a close one
Did anyone else catch a train this morning with a bubler (sp?) to drink from? See dropio
Sounds ideal, what with all this swine flu going around.
No but I am laughing at the fact that
a) Giggles catches like a girl
and
b) He appears to be auditioning for children's TV
Oh good
yay! :D
something is telling me i need to get some sleep before i'm woken up in 6 hours time. night all x
Sounds fair enough, g'night Lou
Night Lou
Night!
Random question, i dont suppose anyone here has a swimming mp3 player they can recommend/tell me to avoid?
A waterproof one?
yes!
There's an article from The Independant, but it's from last year
Why do you want that? You should concentrate on the swimming
Breathe in... and out. In... and out
I have to swim indoors here... i find it very boring!
Ha ha, Speedo have just launched one
You want one that can swim?
Is there a swimmer's world magazine/website?
:P
I used to sing to myself.
I know what you mean, but I think you are better off without the music. Not sure how you could make that work anyway, unless you have ear plugs under a cap or something.
Surely the gadget show will have tested them at some time. Sounds like their kind of thing
Look's like there is
What about a waterproof armband & headphones for your player?
Shown here
I can't believe that the wires don't get in the way. It would drive me nuts.
The gym machines all have iplayer on them, i dont think it would be unreasonable to tun the whole pool into an lcd screen as well?
Only if it can keep up ;)
Some places actually pipe music into the pool. Of course you mostly end up with "easy listening". Rod Stewart anyone?
Hang on, this looks familiar
Who posted this?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-168
I have seensomone using one, you just clip it on the back of your googles and have the wires coiled up.
However aparently the earphones are a bit annoying...
I'm guessing Giggles popped over to Filton
Giggles. He is trying different transport museums.
So i am loking at amazon and debating how relaiable the reviews are when i come accross this gem
This is the most useless product ever, it only lets you listen to the instramentals of a song and does not enable you to actually listen to any vocals, which is absolutely pointless.
how odd...
http://fwd.five.tv/gadgets/audio-video/portable-audio-video?page=4
The gadget show has tried at least a couple of waterproof mp3 players.
Huh? Surely if they are MP3, it doesn't matter?
Some of the Amazon feedback comments are a bit 'wtf?' :)
ah cheers, cant seem to get any videos, but they have some descriptions of the ones i have been looking at... nothing comes cheap though!
And the furry boots?
this is a hightech device, it clearly analyses the audio and filters out any vocals... might make podcasts a bit dull though!
You thought underwater music didn't come at a price?
.....are purple.
I suspect the legs are not Mr C's
i was hoping they had cheaper options... i dont want to dance on the water, just listen to music under it! :P
There's pink too
They are amy's... she was explaining that they are amazing...
How long are your swimming sessions?
I did kinda wonder that
From the people that gave us Ugg boots!
I havent started yet, so it will depend on my fitness...
When i was a teenager i used to do 2 hours 3 times a week....
up and down... up and down... we didnt have music back then mind, we had it rough!
I wonder if swimming could be grounds for me to wear ugg boots in the uk...
The videos run for me
Amy's new slippers
I am getting looped ads for g-force... which i dont think i will be seeing!
got it working, speedo looks like the best one.
now if i set my self a target of 20 KM, i will buy it once i have swum that far :P
that's a good idea.
best of luck getting back into it. I have been planning on starting swimming again for 6 months and still haven't got to the pool.
I paid for 2 months membership at my local pool/gym, hopefully it works!
We can also help with this...
Every time Paul starts commenting we should ask him if he has been swimming yet... :P
Oh no! Please no no no.
I have so many good excuses!
Sounding like a quitter already :)
Lucky I didn't mention my plans for mountain biking!
I read an article about the Nike + ipod. Apparently for most people, if they get past 5 runs, they normally keep it up. Might be the same for swimming.
I think it is like an exercise. If you get into the habit of doing it you will keep doing it and if you get into the habit of not doing it you continue not to do it.
Thats the problem. I like my habbit of leaving work, getting home, glass of wine.......
You need a target to aim for. You could sign up for a sidepodradio show to talk about your return to exercise. That way you will be motivated to be up to speed by then.
Just Do It
Ha! you won't get me that easy.
Ah man, director John Hughes died
RIP
It wouldn't need to be half an hour. We are looking for 5 minute fillers. Just trying to help motivate you.
aaah man
Never heard of him toll I saw it on the news
you've seen his films though.
??
All must see films of his...
Uncle Buck (1989)
Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Weird Science (1985)
The Breakfast Club (1985)
I suppose
and home alone
Hmmm. What sort of 5 minute fillers? For shows or between?
That's the one Giggles is re-making this week.
Don't remember tractors or frisbees in the original
Produced & wrote but didn't direct
Not a massive fan of that one but it was popular, to put it mildly
Oh dear. I was looking so good up 'til then.
fair enough. it felt like a john hughes movie.
Between orfor when things go wrong. Which won't happen.
Okey, there's a challenge. I shall put my thinking cap on.
The Brat Pack should all be at that funeral
Please God, no one remake The Breakfast Club anytime soon (or just, ever!)
You can put it just below Maverick's Sidepodanory.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodradio
Or Pretty in Pink for that matter
I havent really herd of him either, but they were saying what a big loss it was to the world of film on the radio as i was driving home tonight, I have seen ferris Bueller's day off and love that film, i might have seen some of the others mentioned, cant really remember... has he done any recent projects?
I'll have to work something out, that isn't completely boring. Maybe something about track days.
Only been writing recemtly it seems, not much worth mentioning
I look forward to it
Didn't direct that either though he had a had in in somewhere, writer maybe
his is mr. 80's. he pretty much defined the entire 80's movie genre.
Hit teen movie after the other
Opened movies like only Tom Cruise can now
Which is why I seem to embarrassingly know most of these movies.
*turns on ipod with Duran Duran playing*
I could just play my brother's band's CD for 5 minutes.
gotta be simple minds...
That's on there too.
These all need to go on Christine's list if not seen already
Dammit, they should go on anyway! :)
Right, i am going to head to bed as i am apparently more tired than i think
I will leave you with something silly for the iphone owner who has everything
Was never a fan
not even of this one?
the comments already mention john.
Oh lord no
I don't need to hear that again
Back in the day, it was probably ok, but now...
class my friend, pure class (in part because they didn't write it). the drumming is timeless.
la la la laaa, la la la la la la la laaaa.
Well that is true, I think it's HIM I dislike
i can see that. i still like 'em regardless, but especially for the drums.
G'Day everyone!
That's why I was a massive Adam & the Ants fan
Two drummers :)
Hey Sean
How's it going?
:)
hullo sean :)
Hi Sean
Loved the two clips you posted.
loved your shows, sir. loved 'em
Shows?
They were for the original Sidepodradio, now are on drop.io
Haha! There was an Aussi band a saw a few times called Big Pig - THREE drummers. Awesome.
Cool, how long ago?
3 drummers?
Yep - you had to hear (and see) it to believe it.
Three drummers, 4 singers, 1 harmonica.
If you get the chance some time, try to find "Hungry Town" by Big Pig, gives you some idea of the sound.
Last couple of days. I think.
Here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OE9fhRDEr7A

Big pig with lots of drums
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjsdFk6BJ-g
This was more my thing back then :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtxuPqjSJDc
Hehe. I never knew he had "another" song.
3 or 4 decent albums, in fact
Well I never. and I thought Ant Music was it.
crazyness. righto, must be time to sleep. night all.
Night fella
Good night
Night Mr C
Night.
before i go, a last word from joe on bmw:
"Pulling out of F1 was enough of a slap in the face for the sport from BMW. Wiping out the team at the same time would be unforgiveable."
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/08/06/the-plight-of-peter-sauber/
Stand And Deliver was massive
I read that earlier, poor Peter Sauber (& the guys at the team)
I hope he finds a way to sort it out
Oh, you're right, it was too. Get's him out of the one-hit-wonder camp.
I wonder if BMW's decision last year to concentrate on 2009, now stands as the second must stupid decision in F1, behind Honda's pull-out with such a great car in the works.
It does kinda prove Max's point about Manufacturer's invlovement in F1
I hate to say that but...
Surely Ferrari going to war with the FIA when the FIA were letting them write the rules must be the stupidest
Maybe, although less obvious than the other two.
and yes, I guess Max has a point.
But everyone said this would happen when Max initially announced his plans to get manufacturers involved in team ownership. What has happened does not prove him right it simple means that he now knows what the rest of us knew from day one.
Fair point
the talk of my slippers makes me wish i was wearing them now. Perhaps i should buy a pair for the office. To answer other questions yes i got the tickets and i also found someone who wants my spare one. The chocolate milk doesnt smell, yet. Fingers crossed it stays that way. The gap is where i keep my guitar hero controllers so i put them back on top of a layer of towels. Shall remove towels tonight.
hello sidepodpeople
G'Day!
going into the weekend or already there?
It's Friday arvo. Yay!
Which tickets are these?
yeah, my mistake. I'm on vacations and I'm travelling tomorrow back home, so my days can be a little mixed :-)
My weekend started yesterday! ;)
pearl jam!
Cool, that should be big.
well, mine started on Thursday last week :-)
unfortunately, it ends this Sunday :-(
But I have a 4-day weekend EVERY week.
I love uni. ;)
enjoy it while you can...
Grrrr, uni students, grrrr.
I have to sleep now, tomorrow I have a long trip to do. see you on saturday (hopefully after a nice day of ski ;-) ). bye
See ya mate.
Morning everyone!
Hello there.
by the way Paul, the ferrari place is on Lygon St and is called Cafe Correto. I think.
good morning
Morning, everyone. Woohoo! Today is a good day. :D
really ? for any reason other than it is Friday ?
Thanks, I can remember Lygon st.
Leaving work early, and am off to vacation for the weekend. And the lady and I will be back in time to watch our college hoops rivalry - from opposite sides of the court (it's her school versus mine). :D
w00t!
What colleges are playing hoops this time of year?
Morning all, quick hop in the shower and then im off.
How are we all?
really bored, have been staring at the same excel table for almost 2 days ... hopefuly 2 more hours and am done :-)
Morning. Too tired. Work later. Boo. :(
Right, am off, have a good weekend y'all
Have a good time!
Will do :D
Hmm. Strange.
Apparently I posted this tweet last night.... when I was sleeping.... *cue spooky music*
Morning all.
Sleeptweeting?
From tweetdeck? That's impressive. Couldn't have possibly been a butt-tweet. Unless you sat on your laptop or something.
Morning Christine. How are you today?
I dunno! I'm a little freaked out by that as I was definitely asleep...!
Tired. I didn't sleep well. I didn't tweet in my sleep though, so things are good :)
Good to hear your day so far is at least a lot less mysterious :P
All I can think of is I left my laptop on and just fell asleep kicking the keyboard or rolling over it or whatever.Perhaps it got left on for such an amount of time that it automatically shut down to save energy? I always start up gmail, SPC and tweetdeck when I load up my laptop every time so... I dunno. I really can't explain it. :S
It makes sense as a tweet though. Spelling is a bit off, but if your feet can form sentences in your sleep, you might want to think about joining the circus!
This is the last day of the Holiday.
I believe I have to go some way to beat falling in the water. However...
Finally, an excuse! :D
What is on your itinerary today?
There appears to be a baby on drop.io.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/ds2-2-jpg
that looks like brand new baby
Yep I can confirm your suspicious that appears to be a baby :P
Time to read back on comments!
This is either Andy's new arrival, or someone has been keeping a secret from us :)
I caught up just now, I don't think there is anything.
Must be andy and LPG's like you say then :)
Unless it's an even more strange morning where I'm sleeptweeting and newborn babies are already commenting. However, I think that may be over thinking things
change your password just in case?
I don't think there's anything in the comments either. It's nothing to do with me!
that's quite common reaction :-)
I am thirsty, but there is no bubbler on the train home. I want fancy morning train back :-(
that may be the most awesome drop.io ever!
#sorrygiggles
I think mr and mrs c have been hiding this from us. Hiatus indeed!
Ha! Not a chance. Podcasting + babies do not mix.
i wouldn't trust us with a furby, let alone a living, breathing person.
A combination of the two could easily be called poocast.
you get used to it, takes about a week :-)
i heard if you bought several of them they tend to chat amongst themselves, but they don't half make some funny noises.
one person making inappropriate noises at inappropriate times is more than enough...
Indeed. The noise children make from a completely different level of the building... imagine what it would be like inside our own home!
Local colleges. We're near the equator, remember. :D
anyway, who 's baby is that, on drop.io ?
I'd vote the Andy + LPG guess was a good one.
Hmmm. I'll wait for the day you guys have a kid. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday. :D
Enjoy the wait.
While you Enjoy the Silence?
Words are very unecessary, they can only do harm.
My parents bought a car instead of having children.
Which then led to them having children?
genius.
wait... you don't exist?
Well I exist so they had children eventually, but it was 9 long years and hundreds of thousands of "when are you having kids" questions later :D
Ah, so it had nothing to do with the car then. ;)
heheh no! They finally sold it last year and they said it hurt more than selling one of us would because they'd had it for longer :D
:D
I wonder if Mr and Mrs C are being asked that too.
...What?! :P
Only by you lot :)
28 years is a long time to keep a car! You grow attached, apparently.
that is what car companies would think too :-)
:D
I agree with Wolf. Car companies hate it when you say that. You don't make them enough money. :P
ah but it was one of these, they age nicely :D
You should have said that before. Then we could have agreed that it would be harder to sell than a child! ;)
Thats what you get for moving to the seaside, apparently old cars don't like salt-watery air. Children on the other hand quite enjoy the seaside :D
wow ! why sell that ?
you ruined their car!
I didn't want them to move, I liked our old house :(
oh. we'll let you off this once ;)
my high school english teacher bought it. It seems weird that he is now in my house :D
morning
morning :D how was Jenson on the radio this morn?
Morning :)
how was your lesson?
Ditto :P Yay for a day off work! :D
Hello there.
This talk of Jon's circuit radio duties at Snetterton has reminded me that the guy who runs the circuit is looking for a new Clerk of the Course for next year and my dad has been put forward for it :D
i was confused as to why he was on the radio at first... i didn't get to hear much unfortunately, my instructor turned up early..
really really really good :D i'm now resonably confident on main roads and stuff, must have been 6th lesson lucky, cause i didn't have any major problems :D so fun :)
yesss ! I am done with the boring excel table !
Nice! http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77580
I tried to watch DTM since its on TV here now, but there was Ralf and I got scared and had to turn it off.
heidfeld to dtm then?
he is not allowed to leave F1 until he wins at least once. Poor Nick. Poor, winless Nick.
Morning all! Wow thats a nice car!
better than amy, apparently.
I need a device invented which stops my mouse closing all my windows when it falls on the floor, that was my 2nd attempt at saying hello!
Perhaps if Amy sat in the car it would solve any potential rivalry for affections...
Oh dear England. 16-2 already...
more babies!
Its not happening, i am not watching... la la la la la la
Awww, mini Feds :)
Wow, they are small...
I wonder if he caries them about on his racket?
awww!! congratulations to Andy and LPG! (if it's their baby)
I'm going to be off into the city in a bit. Yes, that's right - outside...
be safe out there.
i don't even know what that means! :( i try with cricket.. i really try... but i just don't get it. i can sit and watch it, or play it, but i always need someone to explain the scoring..
It seems to be a trend that's catching on. Inevitably #IBlameSteven.
You craaaaazy. I don't want to go into our city centre later. :(
aww
have fun! :)
SKY=FAIL
MFC Tip: I am not sure this online tv thing is the way of the future...
Got paid today as I do this time every week, so methinks I shall do some spending on my day off. I need a lightweight waterproof jacket for a start.
Hehe, aww :)
Cricket makes itself out to be more confusing than it is to be fair. Once you understand the innings and whatnot it's easier but I can see why it'd be confusing. But I agree, it's easier to just play and watch than go on about explaining innings and wickets and the likes :P
Speaking of scary - just watching the FIA GT, and JV is racing a Mosler
It means something like 2 batsmen have been caught out and between them at that point, they had scored 16 runs. That's not good.
they should just play rounders or something.. it's much easier to understand.
:D
easier than running up and down a strip of dirt?
I dont understand rounders.
I can do cricket, baseball and softball, but i really dont understand rounders.
the bat is tiny and you seem to have to hit the ball miles as you arent allowed to stop on the bases?
Stephane Ratel looks like a playboy
no i get that... it's the scoring i don't get... therefore rounders i easier to understand :)
I get ODIs, I get Twenty-20 (or is it 20-Twenty?) but I don't get tests. I don't get why they play for days and THERES NEVER A WINNER ITS ALWAYS A DRAW. I get a little angry.
Oooh.. Rob Dougan's album Furious Angels just came thorough the post. Excellent. :)
it's safe to go outside if you keep intouch at all times with your phone.
Hah :D
huh?
OK, basic cricket part 1 :P
You run, you get 1 run.
Hit it over the rope without bouncing 6 runs
hit it over the rope rolling or bouncing on the way 4 runs.
its certainly not for me and my 64k internet :(
I won't have my phone. I'll have stacks of paperwork for the upcoming changeover, possible boxes of [insert frozen food here] and my patience in a stress ball from shopping day customers. Boo to all of that :P
now you tell us ;)
As opposed to the other sort where you have to wait for something you don't want to watch?
you need to watch Heikki play cricket again where they explain that the further away you hit it, the better :D
does that mean on holiday i must keep my phone with me at all times?
I am trying to watch the ashes on skyplayer.
It works sporadically, i think i am on my 5th different error which has stopped me watching this summer.
Booo
LOL. Speaking of him, that's one funky tshirt
yes.
to put it another way... do as giggle's does.
okay... even when swimming? or is it safe to keep it out of the water? :P
that's where you went wrong.
what the heck is skyplayer?
send videos of my holiday?
Its a little loud for everyday wear, but I shall rock it at the Grand Prix in March. I hope the weather is good enough :D
Drive tractors and drop frisbees?
you can get waterproof phone cases.
:D
Its basicly an online distribution service for sky tv channels and on demand content.
You can either get it if you have sky, or like me you cant get a dish..
It is pricey and rubbish
That reminds me, Paul have you been swimming yet?
sounds like sky.
It's Friday night, so not yet. However, tomorrow is an option
At least when i had a dish i could just watch what i wanted....
Eau Rouge in a Maserati looks scary
I wish I knew someone with a swimming pool. That way there wouldn't be other people there and I wouldn't have to look at a timetable. Not that I've been swimming in ages anyway.
It's worse if you ave been a "swimmer" and have to swim in the public lanes.
Passing can be difficult
shoulda married a tennis player.
I knew it.
I am not looking forward to this, hopefully i am so far out of shape it isnt an issiue...
I suspect I will be too.
Oooooooooooh. Rob Dougan song appeared in the Grand Prix 3 game on the PC. Never knew that :D
Although even if you don't know the name, he's 99% most famous for basically being the music behind The Matrix...
Perhaps we should be raising money for a Sidepodswimming Pool instead of silly charities :)
:D Just some motivation would do.
i have a swimming pool.. we've not used if for a few years though sadly :( am waiting for dad to have a free month so i can help try and sort it all out.
WOW. Everyone round to Lou's.
Mornin all. Lovely day, dunno why I'm stuck inside.
Hmmm. I saw some cheap air fares the other day.....
yay! more people to help clean it ... erm i mean... i'll cook a bbq and everything :P
Pool party at Lou's! :D
morning. i wish it was lovely here. it's almost dark outside!
I mean Sidepodpoolparty ;)
I'm sold. Buuuut, is there a Greggs nearby?
Damnit RG!
I'm hungry now.
Lou's offering up free food and all you can think about is paying for some?! :P
Mwahahahaha.
I fancy a 'run'
i've never been in a Greggs before..not sure they have them down here...but i live in the countryside so it wouldn't be near even if we had one :(
Well, you can't really get a sausage roll at a bbq.
Sausage in piece of bread?
Couldn't she just buy some from Tesco instead?
It's called a hot dog, apparently.
Once you go to Greggs your sausage roll standards explode to immense levels
Hmm...
*goes to find out if there's a Greggs in Norwich*
I'll have to tell him that tomorrow. (My brother Greg, that is)
Hmm, according to their site, we do have their stores, only they're called Bakers Oven.
Can't be the same, their sausage rolls are nothing special
Not the same thing, not even close!
England 39-3
Cricket has just started working... kinda wish it hadnt :(
Hehehe. Oh dear oh dear.
That's what I was saying the last two tests.
Why oh why does my favourite player have to get out easily?
hahahaha this is the radio one thing i missed this morning. Jenson looks happy lol!
I am not sure whats more embarrassing, the scoreline or getting out to Mitchell Johnson...
You clearly need a new favourite player!
:D
He looks like he really doesn't wanna be there! :D
#sorryamy
:D
Yeah, suppose. Oh, next one is Steve Harmison
Or maybe he wasn't all that happy because I actually recognised what car he was actually driving virtually - his 2007 Honda. :D
What a bizarre interveiw...
yeah.. if you don't follow the show it may be a little odd.. but they are trying to find out what she is good at.. it's obviously not 'being an f1 driver'...
ahhhhhh :)
Hi All. I dont know if anyone has mentioned it, but it will soon be 123456789 for you all in the UK.
What does that mean? 12:34:56 on 07-08-09.
The world didn't end here in Aust when the clock ticked over, so I assume you'll be safe as well. Anyone need a slightly used tin foil hat and bunker?
42-4....
Obviously needs to play for Durham more often, get a feel of good success.
i still have no idea what your saying!... but it doesn't sound good..
Basically, if the score after the dash is higher than 5, and the score on the left is in two figures, we are doing bad.
Hehehe, it's very very bad for England.
Basically 42 runs scored with 4 men out (of 11). The first few people, when you're batting, are usually the better batsmen in the team. England are losing all their good batters, who should've been going for at leats 50 runs each between them. They should've at least got 100 runs before losing the first two men.
At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they don't reach 100 runs before they lose all their wickets (before everyone batting is out).
They probably didn't help... but... still :P
oh. :(
If I say "Go Australia", will it come back to haunt me? (I don't read the comments that often anymore, so I'll miss it if you say it :P )
That also is very bad because Australia are veeeeery strong in terms of batting.
Nobody cares :-(
I care!
Aww I got my comment 10 seconds too late :(
You posted that 21 seconds later, I'd have been impressed.
Awww, that's not true! That's actually pretty cool. It'll only happen once! :P
But at least I know the world didn't end for you :)
Unless I'm commenting now with wings and a halo, the world didn't end.
I care. I was trying to track down Bruce, but I guess we didn't need him in the end.
*takes tin foil hat off*
Fully loaded satellites will conquer nothing but my mind! ;)
Well, England haven't lost a wicket in a while...
They're actually getting boundaries!!
It was a good life.
Well guessed everyone who saw the baby pics. He arrived last night at about 23:50, so missed being born on 07/08/09 by 10 minutes. No name yet, we'll let you know on that. Weight 3.42kg (that's 7.5lb) Everything seems to be fine.
Congratulations Andy and LPG! :D
Aww, congratulations to you and LPG!! Fantastic news :D
Ooooh, congrats. I shall assume they are on drop.io.
And with Andy's announcement, another wicket for England :P
Yes. He already looks different, well less squashed.
I liked not losing a wicket.
yay! Congratulations Andy and LPG!! :)
Wow congratulations! you and LPG must be so happy!
The Pic looks amazingly sweet!
If you get stuck on names there are usualy people in the comments! :P
5 england people are out, we have only scored 65 runs.
This is not good Lou!
Is Sidepodbaby an option?
This is not Alex in a bar territory, a name will be announced in due course. It won't be "Mr C" either.
Oh god, I hope we're not gonna do what I think we're gonna do, are we?
We are also using the bowlers to bat, and most of them, can't bat.
oh :( poor england..
The Mitsubishi Starion that Jeremy Clarkson bought and modifed for the non-Porsche £1500 sports coupe challenge in Series 6 of TG is now on eBay!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250472942129#ht_986wt_1167
Indeed. It's confusing because everyone is in white :)
Seems over-priced for a Starion
haha :)
See that's where I always thought you could clean up on Bullseye! by making sure your non-dart player was actually a bit good.
They are a lot better than they used to be, broad is a future bowling all rounder. Swans good, Anderson is gritty.
Onions and Harmison are not likely to set the world on fire though...
They need Monty back!
congrats! I've heard that Heikki is a fine name for a boy ;)
Great, I can't go into the city because of the stupid trains being on strike :(
No. #sorryamy We already have a scandanavian name anyway - our other son.
Ah, very good :D
So 72-6 hehe
Kimi and Heikki? There's a team
yay. congrats andy.
does he have a domain name yet?
LMAO :D
He doesn't have a first name yet...
we should probably play 'Guess the innings total'...
#eng 86
mrtaylor.com?
6 wickets before lunch, eh? England should be proud.
For all the wrong reasons.
Well done to both of you!
super lols.
How about Brock? Please? :)
#90
#eng 90
99.
Harmy to be a hero and score two sixes.
Eng #88
Knowing Australia it will be Eng: 286
I like the way in your worse case scenario we still have a poor first innings total!
Sorry Jeremy, LPG has said no.
In best case scenario, we go for 99, and we get them out for 50.
Chance of that happening though, 1 in 10000000000000000000000000000
I suppose I'd better head off to work... even if it is a beautiful day outside, I'll soon be in an office or a big stupid freezer. Boo!
Anyways, see ya later peoples.
See ya lukeh
You have way to much faith in the current Aussi side
Alright, chance of that happening is 1 in 10000000000000000000
:D
Is Harmison playing?
Zoe laughed at my optimism too. :)
Yes. He was so good for Durham and we were dominating so much, they decided to let the other teams catch up a little
All is not over then.
Can we know a last name? Or the starting letter of surname? (if not taylor)
I am thinking Steven Paul XXXXX hoping that the surname starts with C and you can combine Apple and Sidepodcast
Last name starts with an A and we're not naming him Steve after Jobs OR Wozniack
rats.
Hmm. So not Taylor or Goth.
oh, oh, oh... what about jony?
Juast to throw it out there...
Horatio?
Apparently its more common these days...
what the fudge?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Ive
I got it as soon as I hit enter. sorries :)
I read it as Joni as in Joni Mitchell
Aaron is also a good name for getting alphabetical preference...
They go by surnames these days.
:D
Thats what I was thinking! Alex Aaron Axxxx
or Aaron A Aaronson? or Arthur B Ablabab?
we already have two girls with first names beginning with A. That was bad planning.
Alphabetical preference ain't all its cracked up to be
Thats easy for an A-person to say :P
My friend Zula on the other hand...
I vote for Alex to be in the somewhere. Giggles is a good nickname.
jenson?
Felipe! Then he can be Baby Felipe!
jensen?
i second this.. Jenson is a good name :P
Lewis is actually not a bad name...
:o *types '-jensen' into the filter*
Sorry guys, none of the suggestions are working so far. I can give you some more definite nos:
Lewis, Rubens, Nick, Giancarlo, Timo, Kimi, Fernando, Nelson, Sebastian etc.
And Most Definitely NOT Michael. Or Ralf.
Incidentally, notice this shot on the BBC? Even in a kart HE has to be number 1. Warning - don't scroll down if you are offended by semi-naked Germans.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8186319.stm
Wouldn't everyone just assume you were named after Jenson Button...Is that a good thing!???? :-)
Whats wrong with Timo? I think its a lovely name.
I am all for naming animals after F1 drivers, but not children, so I understand :D
Awesome work.
I think we should come up with TLAs first and work back from there. eg. NRA, AAA, PDA (thanks Zoe for that last one)
How about Newton or Pippin?
:D Sadly he doesn't look like a Timo, plus it's quite like Tim.
I am out of ideas, but if he had a sister called jill you could call him Jack
(not Jacques)
Ah I get it now...picking F1 themed names for a young one?
Heinz-Harold
Eddie
Heikki
Rene
Alain
I always though Archie was a cool A name
thinking up names is hard :(
Tim 'toolman' Taylor? Tim Brook Taylor?
well to relate this back to my parents and their car, when my brother was born, with a last name starting with F, my dad was very keen for him to have two middle names so his initials would be MGTF. Mum said no.
They did not put this amount of thought into mine, hence I am ALF :(
heeeeeh!
Actually, no. Sidepodcast is taking the concept of choosing drinks for Alex and applying it to baby names. It's not working so well.
Agreed! It's a cool name
i feel we've let you down :(
At least Amy has a name. Unlike some.
Isn't it awesome? :P I think of it all the time. Knowing your height makes it even funnier. #sorryamy
It's OK.
the last time we didn't have a name, we ended up with doohickey...
Oh...It's Friday afternoon, my brain can't keep up.
this is not me :(
Untrue. The last one ended up with MFC.
he has furry feet...
oh yeah!
I don't eat cats :(
Not all Kiwis have furry feet despite what Lord of the Rings suggests.
built in slippers! :P :P :P
jealous!
what about ted?
and with a middle name starting with L, he becomes TLA!
Pete Wentz said something about having to chose a name that he could grow up to be a rockstar, or a president, and it would fit both. But then he went and called his son Bronx Mowgli, so clearly he didn't take his own advice.
sting?
ari!
This is why I like Brock so much. To me it is such a strong name which works in any situation. Everyone I suggest it to says its bad. Boo to everyone.
Seven?
Brock is a surname :P
Over here it is an old name for badgers.
it also makes me think of clucking chickens. Brock brock brock brock brock.
What The?
I know of a child called Brock Holden. This is the best name ever.
I dont have one...
My initials are NCK... everyone just writes nick :(
Huh
Where's my post gone?!!
By best do you mean "most bogan"
inappropriate sir.
The Amy Zoe affinity continues...
Awesome!
ah-ha, what about stefanano?
You are joking me?!!!
How on earth is providing a link to wikipedia and the film Bad Taste inappropriate??
It's a spoof horror film made in NZ
Yet posts about Kiwi's with furry feet are allowed?
?????????????
i clicked the link and there was a big picture of someone sticking their finger up?
I see a post from you about this at 13:51??
Does that mean you've removed my post linking to the article with a topless MSC? Thinking about it, you probably should remove it to protect the easily frightened.
Congrats!
First name starting with 'A'. I nominate 'Alguersuari'.
I had a nasty case of click-n-regret
heheh. annoyingly the bbc is mostly family friendly, and you provided a warning. so no ;)
:D
Yeah I think that's the one!
Last time I looked Wikipedia wasn't noted down as a restricted website!!
By a big picture you mean a little pic of the film box office poster in the top right of the wiki page?
I swear I must've done something to someone on here in previous life, is it just a case of hammer RCC whenever he's online.
Have I said something about someones fav driver on here something?
On alphabetical preference... try having a last name starting 'W'.
Jeremy lied to me. He told me this place was all about motor sport. But I see now it's nothing to do with motor sport at all! Shocked and appalled. :)
Is your real name Chris H? :P
Uh oh. Rumbled.
Better do some more work... will try to sneak back later..
no. if it was i would've commented and said:
"rcc, this is a family friendly website, therefore i have removed your inappropriate link. please think before posting similar content in future."
instead i chose not to highlight it, and carried quietly on without pointing you out in front of everybody.
if you are unhappy with our comment policy and wish to discuss, i am of course all ears. go for it.
No it's not, It's Mike
oh noes!
hey zoe.
So Harmison is now equal highest no. of ducks for England.
*would've.
O hai *waves*
we're really struggling for suitable baby names here. we don't want to let andy/lpg down. any thoughts?
I am googling ways to get milk smell out of carpet :(
Put another smell over the top?
Because me posting a link to WIKIPEDIA a family friendly website is inappropriate...
It might not be personal but It feels like it, can't seem to do anything right on these boards. How many times recently have you had a go/removed/or ignored anything I say without anykinda of explanination. I think yr going way OTT on the PC stuff.
Forget it
1 reader lost
If you have some; you could leave some silica gel sachets around it for a day or 2 then vacuum?
Wikipedia isnt family firendly! there is plenty of stuff in there you wouldn't shout about....
Anyway I am heading to the pool... i am making progress :D
I like Joshua. But I've already got dibs on that (Jeremy stands by Brock, ew). Aside from that... Toby? Luke/Lucas? Umm... boys names are hard :/
hey Zoe :)
how is your hand? you cut it at the same time as the milk incident didn't you?
as i said earlier, some wikipedia linking is fine. we specifically rewrote the moderation filter to allow it in fact. the site wasn't the issue, the specific was.
fair enough, however, we are pretty open about it upfront. you don't have to agree with it, but you can't say you didn't know?
*page.
damn i wish i could type.
hand is good :D carpet is bad :( Might have to rope in both my housemates to help me move the cabinet even further.
they really are. who knew?
at least you managed to include a question mark in that last comment ;) maybe it's typing or the question mark :P
bound to be the keyboards fault and not the lack of using preview.
Hi Mike. Sorry about the 'Chris H' joke that you may not be aware of.
The way this site is run can be frustrating (for some) but I accept it for what it is. There's no point getting high blood pressure over what happens in this wonderful community.
Please continue to comment here. I, for one, value the comments from all visitors.
You'd think it wouldn't be so tricky. There are 3 billion boys out there, how hard can it be to pick a name? I don't even have kids and I struggle.
England all out for 102. They actualy got to 3 figures! Siddle on a hattrick for next innings!
It would be nice if for once someone actually said something good about anything that I post...
I don't know why I come on here somtimes, i'm clearly not part of the 'incrowd' regardless of the amount of times i've tried to join in conversation.
anyway I have work to do..
didn't really answer my question, but fair enough.
of course :) hehe this reminds me of when there was no lclt or doohickey and we were asking for an edit button... not that we need on for doohickey.
OK people, please hold your baby name thoughts for a bit, I have to go and buy some essential items, back later.
tis on the list. a tough one to fix, because we want doohickey to reflect the edits.
you practice? what hope do we have?
I sincerely hope there isn't an 'in-crowd' on Sidepodcast. I've always thought the community have been very welcoming to new people. I'm disappointed to read things like this, especially from someone who's been featured as a guest writer, with an excellent post.
Must sleep now, so will do.
Current line of thinking involves TLAs that can change by using names like William (can be Bill) etc. TWA ( time wasting annoyance) becomes TBA (to be announced)!
All of a sudden, people around me are talking about babies and stuff. I didn't mention anything. There must be something about today?
I blame Roger.
can they suggest any good names for boys?
I do! I blame Jeremy, he's turned me all clucky (he will deny this).
Do they know Andy and LPG?
I strongly deny this!
After my excitement of this week, I suggest Eddie :D
I don't think so, but it's entirely possible, I suppose.
Names I have overheard: Lee, Ben, Steve, James.
I vote for Dave.
You would :)
well, if you guys could have a girl, our lives would be a bit easier. thankingya ;)
then you can use fatherly phrases like " you make my life Hard Son/Sun "?
When I was younger I really really wanted to call my son if I had one Ben. I hate the name Benjamin though, so it had to be Ben. I have since gone off it.
lost?
In what I consider a weird situation, Zoe wants boys, whereas I don't care
No dice, boys are where it's at! Cept for the name problem.
indeed! And check out his birth name."Edward Louis Severson III" that rivals Titus Raikkonen in epicness.
plural?
From one over Australia have 10% of Englands total!
Met one too many Bens that I didn't like. He can go on the list :D
A whole soccer team! Or maybe just a tennis doubles team, either way.
In true Binary style, I am happy with zero or one.
:'(
:D
should we come back and ask you again after the 1st?
Definitely.
;)
It would test even your great memory to remember that in the distant future
sounds like a challenge...
Can I just say, my worlds are colliding. Is there a sidepodsupportgroup?
erm, there's a facebook group?
I think it's time to leave Jeremy's domain, we seem to have driven everyone away!
Night! :)
Night Zoe :)
Zoe is already there!
love it. g'night to you both.
night all. sidepodaddiction ;-)
Night Jeremy
Nigh Jezza, ya bogan. And night Zoe, you smart non nogan.
wow that comment really was spelling fail.
Was it also language fail as well? :)
indeed. Fail all around.
Much fail whale today.
I don't wanna go to bed now...
Thanks for existing SPC <3
stay up, stay up with us...
(it's not a cult)
just don't accept any drinks.
So, I just googled how to cure a headache and came up with this gem:
Take a lime, cut in in half, and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.
Anyone ever tried that? I would be worried people might think I've had a bacardi with it.
if it doesn't work you could pass the time trying to lick your forehead. Mmm. Lime.
I have a feeling trying to contort to do that would make it worse :)
marry a tennis player?
That can't be the solution to all life's ailments, can it?
possibly not. life would be less stressful though.
I'd be willing to give it a go. Preferably one of the Spanish ones.
never tried that before.. i stick to drinking loads of water, and if i have to take a painkiller of some kind.
Agreed. Sadly, I don't have a handy lime nearby, and if I was heading to the shops I'd go for the chemist rather than the greengrocer :)
:D
maybe the idea is you end up concentrating on the lime and not the headache?..
Sounds to me like a distraction cure. You will no longer notice the headache because the citric acid will run down your forehead and make your eyes burn.
I think I have a better headache cure for Christine.

Oooh. How do I get a job making videos about pandas for a living?
Pandapodcast
Start off doing your own thing at home and eventually lots of people will find out about you and you can become famous for singing panda baby. If only you had a panda to practise with. You may need to start with a man in a panda suit.
i am not being tickled like that for noone.
Then you will have to let me have one.
It's pm;y temporary. Once zoos start asking Christine to make panda videos she will be aeound them all the time and will stop wanting you to buy her one.
only
no.
no.
Re: comment 550 and 554
I, too, occasionally struggle with feelings of exclusion. When this happens, I try to remember two things:
1. this is a fast-paced, text-based medium. Text is not good at transmitting my personality nuances and what I write might be misinterpreted. Also, sometimes the comments are flying and my transmission can be missed before the community is on to the next.
2. this is an intercultural community. Sure, we're united by language and a love of F1, and sometimes I forget that we're not all coming from the same place, figuratively and literally. Cultural nuances don't travel well through text, either.
I've enjoyed meeting people here and think that the internet provides an amazing opportunity to get to know people from all over the world. This was my reason for suggesting "Travels in Sidepodland" for sidepodradio -- bring some recognition to the fact that we're from all over the planet (six continents are represented in the sign-up table!) and get to know people better. I'd like to get to know people here better, and I'm enjoying connecting with people on other platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.
Anyway, I've been thinking about this all morning, and I have no idea where it's going to pop into the conversation, so I hope it is received in the spirit of community and intercultural communications. Cheers.
I feel you need to learn the rules of marriage. What wife wants, wife gets. :D
not when wife wants to illegally import a living animal.
furby yes. panda no.
Don't say it like that.
All I want to do is have a baby panda to look at and cuddle and then give it back when it is not cute anymore.
You make it sound silly the way you say it.
if F1 has taught me anything, rules mean nothing.
Thanks for your comment Nikki, some excellent points.
:P
well.. she wont be illegally importing the panda if she looks after the baby pandas that will probably end up in Edinburgh zoo in a few years ;)
It feels like there is sometimes, It's the same usual people during the day and for people like me who don't have the same free time sometimes to sit and comment for hours etc it can be very hard to get involved in the discussions.
Sometimes I think because I may only be able to drop a post or two in daily I wonder if some of the more regular/daily posters just think there's no point responding cos in half and hour I'll be off anyway. That's not saying anybody is offensive or insultive etc, far from the case. I just seem to of really struggled to get involved in any kinda of conversation about F1 recently and there's quite a few 'in jokes' that baffle me. Maybe a reason why some lurkers are so shy?
I'm not a troll or anything of the sort (I come here for real sensible debate/discussion etc) but seem to of attracted just loads of removed posts or seemingly been ignored recently. Hopefully co-incidence but after a few times you start to wonder why..
I appreciate yr kind words Christine about being a good guest writer etc, that's kinda what frustrates me sometimes when I get comments pulled for no reason etc because it's obvious i'm not just someone who flits in and out etc and only wants to stir and provoke people. I have wanted to help out (ie music samples etc, articles, e-mails) and do what I can when I can.
I've never complained in the past because bottomline is you and Mr C do this for free out the goodness of your own hearts etc and who am I or anyone else to say anything negative. You'd be perfectly within yr rights to say 'see ya later we're off' and clearly many of us wouldn't want that.
All in all missing abit of sidepodlove
I haven't read back through the comments so I don't know what this is about or who brought it up. The real beauty of sidepodradio and all the other participation shows is that we get to hear the different accents which don't come across in text. I can remember a while ago someone telling me he was surprised that I had a Scottish accent despite the fact he had known me online for some time and knew I was Scottish.
I have noticed sometimes that if their is a particular topic of conversation flowing when someone new appears that I unintentionally skip their comment because I tend to scan rather than read and if I am looking for the next point in the main topic I just don't notice certain comments.
I have however noticed a few times recently where someone new has arrived and left and the majority of people have not acknowledged them and that is unacceptable. I noticed it particularly when Christine and Mr C went to the British GP Friday and quite a few people delurked. I noticed that I was talking to them and others were carrying on their own conversation and ignoring them.
I think we need something along the lines of must comment Monday where if someone new arrives or says they are leaving everyone must acknowledge them. This has long been normal protocol in chatrooms and should be here.
YIKES!
that may not have occurred to me.
She is not going to make a career videoing furbys
Hi Lou.
How did the driving lesson go today?
this 'for better, for worse' business. surely it doesn't extend to panda adoption, right?
;)
That is the for better side obviously
thanks. And sidepodlove to RCC and I heartily agree with Steven Roy.
Now I have just realized that it is actually Friday and that I should be at work. I was up late reading Daily Post: Friday, and woke up thinking it was Saturday -- having forgotten that it becomes Friday much earlier on Sidepodcast than here. :D Bye for now, sidepodland!
Bye Nikki
Have fun at work!
We don't pull comments for no reason, and will always explain why a comment has been moderated.
This is interesting, because I have never noticed a problem with Bassano or Andy who work at varying times, and aren't always around. If they're not getting something, I think they just ask and it's explained and then we're all on the same page. No one has ever been told off for not "getting" an inside joke, have they?
You are asking too much of me. :) see you later.
heya Steven. Well... it went really well :D no pavements attacking me today, i even started my lesson from my house (on a very very busy main road) as opposed to a small housing estate. I was actually very relaxed in my lesson today, and didn't get into a fluster at all :) apart from a few hiccups here and there (mainly with having to get out of the way for some lorry or something, it was very fun :D
how are you today?
I don't get some of them, when that happens I just hang back until the conversation has moved on again.
bye! :)
Lorries and the like are a pain. Glad you are enjoying your lessons.
no true. at least not for me. have stopped explaining (read: repeating) when it comes to regulars. by and large i think people know when they overstep the mark, they just like pushing things.
Me too! I think that's always going to happen though. The same way topics come and go. I am not interested in cricket but I don't mind if the people want to talk about it. I'll just wait until the subject of pandas comes up again, which it invariably does :)
Yes. Sorry, I mean, generally speaking, if asked, we can always explain, and will always have a good reason.
i'm hoping to go out for some practice with mum this weekend if i build up courage. :D
If their is something that you or anyone else doesn't get just ask. The only way this community works is if people don't feel neglected or excluded
yup and always for anyone new.
I know, just seems I can't say anything right sometimes!
Ha I should hope not, all this talk of pandas, Iphones, PC's, is very confusing sometimes. Alright maybe I need to just say 'What are you on about' and not feel a muppet for not getting it.
Only time I feel neglected is when I am bored at work and constantly refreshing mobile doohickey and you're all asleep :D
I think there is a difference to being uninterested in a topic and just not understanding inside jokes etc
aww! i wouldn't worry Amy, Lukeh was tweeting in his sleep yesterday i believe so it wont be long till one of us is commenting in our sleep :)
Absolutely. Ask away. Why should you feel stupid? Like Nikki said there are people from all over the globe talking about all kinds of things. You can't know everything! :)
I know.
Just remember she is not going to be as patient as your instructor. Just remember you can stop any time you want if things get fraught. Better to stop than have an accident because you are arguing.
I've learnt a lot from SPC comments just by watching some of the discussions fly by, even if i don't feel like i can contribute as i don't know enough about the topic, specially the ones about tech stuff.
We need more people between 3am and 7am UK time to keep you amused.
i know... that's why i'm building up courage, mum isn't a very good passenger anyways :) yet she'll be better than dad :D
precisely, the only other people around are other Australia based folk, who appear to do more work at work than I do
So we need people on the west coast of the USA who stay up late or early risers in China or Japan.
or, sidepodfunding for me to move to the UK. Also required would be someone to pay for my lodging, and someone to give me a job.
Move to Finland and live with Kathi
Mr Roy seems to have a learned mind........
anything science, geography, history related i'm yr man...
I fall to peices when discussing tech stuff though
I thought Dohickey was a person
I can't help but feel my lack of Finnish may make job hunting in Finland harder than in England.
Are us Aussies too boring for you Amy?
you don't post enough during the day time! I need constant sidepodconversation or I get withdrawals ;)
Skills, expected salary etc????
You don't give me anything to post about. ;)
Hehehe. You can join Steven in answering my stupid questions about space then!
If you look at the rubbish I spout constantly, you notice very little is F1 related, and a lot of it is slipper related :D
That's okay. We're all moving to Finland to run Sidepodradio 24/7 and the Motorsport News Wire thing as well. Jobs for everyone!
I have a degree in commerce but no relevant experience, and I want to earn management wages ;)
Thank you
I am clueless about tech stuff.
I haven't posted anything about F1 since the last race. ;)
I don't wear slippers though...
hooray! And Kathi did provide me with some very handy links a while back that I have since bookmarked and never looked at. Sidepodstudygroup? :D
All the big Finnish telecoms companies like Nokia and Sony Ericsson use English as the only language in their business
I am happu to have someone else on that show to shore up my knowledge
"Dear Nokia. I have refused to use any other make of phone since 2001 and am now onto my 4th Nokia product. Clearly I should be given a job in your company. Love, Amy"
I like those links.
Happu? Sounds like you've been learning some Finnish yourself Steven. ;)
I can type in all sirts of languages. I just can't understand them. Happu sounds like it should be th next Raikkonen kid.
Well I
No probs, everytime there's a space question you've 99/100 answered it before I get chance to type. Reminds me..Mars is gonna be looking huge this month, Must dig the scope out.
I'm a banking analyst (cue the boo's and hisses) so you know Amy I might know a few places....
There is a recession on though so may struggle to find you a spot with manager wages with zero experience!!! If you said you were a doctor/dentist/plumber you'd have no problems, I think we'd probably pay you to come over. Failing that marry a UK sidepodder and yr sorted for a Visa :-)
Or just have an English parent and get citizenship. ;)
I can't beliieve I'm publically admitting I'm part English here....
That is generally because the questions are about missions that I hav been reading up on and following. Now I have to answer any question anyone dreams up and my ignorance will come to the fore.
I can get a 5 year ancestry visa, and then after they expire you can get permanent residency. No sham-marriage required!
Ah a mission man, good stuff... people look at me like i'm mad when I'm able to answer what's launching when etc.
What about the theoretical stuff? Ie cosmology, astro physics, quantum mechanics (QED etc).. That stuff I love the most. Crazy figures and concepts etc...
who said it'd be a sham, We (The UK) have some lovely gents...apparently
I find it facinating but haven't really spent enough time on it to get to grips with it.
well I see Australians make the worst husbands so I'm certainly in the wrong place.
BBC Atom series...tell you everything you need to know. Loads of torrents for it.
Best 3 documentaries ever seen on the Beeb. Talks about the dscovery of the Atom and goes right the way through up to today's current understanding (anti matter, quarks, parallel universes etc)
Well worth the 1.4GB it'll take up on yr PC
Any reason why?
In the words of another Australian, "please explain".
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/08/04/2646091.htm
:D
I think that may be true, but in the interests of defending myself:
Those damn Brits! They'll say anything to get one up on us!
Anyway, I'm off, catch you all later I guess.
Also, http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/All+Sports+with+Sean . Send in any sports related Q's you have for Sidepodradio, preferably via voicemail or mp3 recording, otherwise post them here with your name and Christine will record them for you. Then it will be up to me to answer them on the show.
g'night :D
Swimming was harder than i thought... I met my daily target for week 1 of 1K... hopefully it will get easier, it never used to be this hard!
Mrs C have you considered that pandas might only understand Chinese?
that is good! last time I went swimming for the first time in years, I did about 3 lengths of the 50m pool then decided it was too hard and gave up.
So apparently driving across England isn't a good way to generate exciting drop.io content. So I will have to use a video recorded last night (hence the white shirt #sorryamy).
I did encounter one other form of transport yesterday: the hula hoop.
I know it won't beat the baby pictures but you might like it!
If you have sound you will hear my future mother in law in the background passing comment on what is going on!
Ah it seems to be sideways:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/giggleshula-mov
I knew I shouldn't have let Katherine do the filming ;)
I was tempted to do that :D
good job i have paid for 2 months of membership... Its quite a motivation ;)
Congrats you two! Love to all!
I'll have you know that I've never named anyone in a bar.
However it is true that my father once met a guy called John in a bar, but he already knew a guy called John, so he said to him, "I'm afraid I already know somebody called John, how about I call you Percy". The name stuck through university, and he met his wife at university. So everyone except his parents now know him as Percy.
Hello to all, thank goodness no more work until Monday :-). Congrats to Andy & LPG for the new arrival
Haha, thats brilliant!
Amy doesnt like white shirts?
Thanks for taking us all along on your holiday though through Dropio, its been fun! :D
Or Alex Andronov :)
hehehehehe :D
Weirdly enough, because we were dealing with our brother and sister in law who may or may not be considering some a second child we were discussing this last night!
We came up with:
Windsock
We were told it wasn't strong enough so I suggested:
Volt
After this somebody suggested Ohm and resistance was futile.
Ithangyou!
Actually I think Windsock might be a good cat name!
She believes that I should always be in blue. It is my trademark. So I needed to get my white shirt apology in in advance!
Some places actually pipe music into the pool. Of course you mostly end up with “easy listening”. Rod Stewart anyone? {Comment #49}
My local pool does that. Great when they're playing the Bat out of Hell album (like they did a few months back); less good when it's a Ministry of Sound album (which was yesterday evening's offering).
Huh? Surely if they are MP3, it doesn’t matter? {Comment #56}
Depends. It may be that the player doesn't do a good job of equalising the medium part of the sound range and the reviewer simply didn't know enough about the technical side of sound to diagnose the problem correctly.
It may also be that there was lots of talking/shouting in the pool, in which case no MP3 player is going to adequetely compensate due to the way human ears work.
I for the first time in weeks wrote a comment about F1. It felt quite strange...
I may well be part of the problem here. And I am sorry for that.
I didn't post my comment I held it back because I wanted to be around when it was discussed and I was about to drive off. Interesting points RCC.
noooooo. who wants to talk about f1 anyways?
well i can't see that going viral ;)
atm there isn't much f1 to talk about :(
That is one of the best bits of television I have ever seen!
Absolutely.
I didn't mean... I wanted to change. I just mean that I can imagine that some of the in-jokes may be to do with me. Does it make any sense that I have a video where I am riding a tractor on a formula one site?
Not really if you've just arrived. But I think / hope people soon get used to me :)
:)
not at all. but it does set the tone rather well.
Does it make sense on another site? :P
This might be random.. but on the of chance i can get some help...
When you have done your first bit of serious exercise in a while and you start to ache, is there anything which can be done to stop it from being really bad in the morning?
i've always been told that the best thing to do is have a hot bath in the evening and try and stretch a bit. apparently it helps to relax your muscles or something. i'm no expert though.
Yeah, i jumped in the jaccuzi after i was done for 10 mins, but i dont think it will be enough, i might try that later :D
Eat a bananananananana
Really?
I dont have any! But I have 2 cartons of innocent smoothy.. they have 2.5 banana's each, if i have half a carton of that would it work?
When you have done your first bit of serious exercise in a while and you start to ache, is there anything which can be done to stop it from being really bad in the morning? {Comment #720}
Do some gentle stretching, have a warm (but not really hot) shower/bath, make sure you drink lots of water/fruit squash/sports drink and get a proper, nutritious meal eaten that contains plenty of energy and preferably some protein. There are treatments for muscle ache (Deep Heat is one of them), but I can't recommend a specific one for this because I've never used any myself. I know other people who do, though usually only when injured rather than aching.
Make sure your bed is comfy and make sure your body has recovered before repeating the exercise. Be warned - the first couple of times you could end up aching somewhat in the morning anyway, but the tendency will recede as your body gets more used to the exercise.
For future reference, doing a warm-down at the end of your exercise (either gentle stretching or doing whatever movements were involved in your chosen exercise at half-speed) will help speed your recovery.
I'm no exerciser. However I do know that when you exercise you break down muscle strands so that you can rebuild them. That's part of how you build larger muscles.
Potassium and sodium are used in the process of controlling muscles and so people often find that bananas are good if you are trying to develop muscles. Because they have loads of potassium in them but not too many calories.
No idea about the smoothy.
Um no. That is a good point. So if I learn Chinese, Mr C might let me have one?
Evenin' all.
I was sneakily reading comments while at work but wasn't able to reply, and now I can't remember what I was going to say. I may have another read!
I have only just about caught up on the comments. But from my understanding Mr C is already going to have to learn how to be an tennis star. It's a lot for a single week from him :)
Thanks Alianora!
Hehe, by the end of the session my movements were definatly less than 50% when i started :D
Counting down the lengths was painfull!
Evening Pat
no, no, no, no, no.
christine is going to find a tennis star.
i’ve always been told that the best thing to do is have a hot bath in the evening and try and stretch a bit. apparently it helps to relax your muscles or something. {Comment #721}
Couldn't have put it better myself, lou :)
If I've read correctly and you've been swimming, the other bonus is that you can get the pool chlorine/brine/[insert water-decontaminating chemical here] out of your hair, which will make you feel better in the morning
hellooo
Oh dear. That's a shame...
You'll have to learn to cook then.
Which is it to be Tennis or Cooking ;)
Oh yes, cricket. What's going on??
Evening Janna and Pat!
Thanks a lot, i will give it ago.
Dont realy want bigger muscles... but if thats the price i pay.... ;)
nooo - takeaway.
i have it all planned out.
And that will be useful for the news service
heh, it's not really a want thing, but that's what's happening.
You can start with Wii tennis.
Hi Alex! Are you still on holiday?
May I say how much I'm loving M&S right now. Garlic baguette, spag bol & bag of salad for £3.00. I think even Mr C could warm up the baguette & microwave the spag bol. :-)
Ah, so your choices are Tennis or Death!
Which makes me think of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZVjKlBCvhg
There may be some bad language. Eddie Izzard is amazing though.
you have got to be kidding me?
I'm back now. It's all over!
Nothing, all cricket has been cancelled for the forseable future :D
Mr C doesn't know how the microwave works!
He's all Micro-whats-that-please!
I knew there was a reason I'd forgotten it was on this weekend.
it's a tech thing though?
Or rather he knows how a micro wave heats things in science, but not how one makes a microwave oven heat things. Which is almost 180 degrees opposite most people!
dont you just close the door and either turn a dial or press go?
If he can turn on an itouch then turning on a microwave should be easy-peasy :D
good time?
Just noticed that we now have 99 members on the wiki. Anyone who hasn't joine cna now be the 100th member and may een get a mention on the next show.
Lovely thank you, I got to ride on a tractor! :)
Right on this note I have to go and have a takeaway curry!
I am a very bad influence :)
Hehe, by the end of the session my movements were definatly less than 50% when i started :D {Comment #730}
You're very welcome. Welcome to the ranks of active swimmers :)
Half the speed you finished the main bit of your exercise is at is fine for a swim-down (provided, of course, that you don't sink - if you feel that happening, you are allowed to speed up a bit to prevent that happening!).
Also, if you are losing that much speed through your session, I would humbly suggest that you've set a high enough bar for yourself in each session and shouldn't worry about stepping up the length/intensity count until you feel ready.
death rocks!
I can't explain it. This is the same man who doesn't like mobile phones as well.
gah! awful creations.
When i swam properly i used to warm up with 30-40 lenghts depending on what in was working on.
Now 40 is a full session!
what i need is a microwave i can control from twitter...
I can understand mobile phones because at the end of the day no matter how good they are, they are still phones. I hate phones.
but...why... without the invention of the phone there would be no iphone... which would mean no giggle's videos and pictures!! :(
iPod Touch. That is all.
you want to be able to tweet your microwave?
what a fantastic name.
i approve!
All done, now I have to work out how to use the wiki.
Eddie Izzard is a genius.
I have just realised you have deprived your self of rustlers....
This is very good and terrible at the same time
woot!
I concur :)
ROFL.
that was to death rocks.
I didn't think we would get the 100th that quickly.
You could start with the sitemap and follow the links that take your interest

Dont realy want bigger muscles… but if thats the price i pay…. {Comment #738}
Bigger muscles are no bad thing. You can do more stuff with them, and besides you can always tone them into shapeliness with a little light weight work once you've got used to your current level of exercise.
I remember seeing that... wondered what you were on about.
Of course they are. The default question for any couple is "when are you getting married?". Once married this secondary question comes into play. Nothing wrong with the other way about of course.
When i swam properly i used to warm up with 30-40 lenghts depending on what in was working on. {Comment #763}
What sort of distances were you working on? I do 24 lengths of warm-up, but then again I train for gala races and the longest races I've ever done have been 100 metres...
*waves at spc world*
You didn't stay to point and laugh? I think that's the only reason people
watch it.
*waves back*
everything went quiet when i appeared, did i say something?
I think it's the combination of em and you appearing at the same time. We scared everyone off. :(
Hehe, it must be that time of day. Did you get any free wine today?
It does kinda prove Max’s point about Manufacturer’s invlovement in F1
I hate to say that but… {Comment #157}
It does.
It also proves further that the FIA's claim to be a guardian of the sport is seriously misplaced. If it hadn't been making rules that forced the cost of racing up, forced out privateers and made the racing worse while claiming the opposite, none of this would have happened...
Heh yeah I think most (in the UK at least) are back from work and are sorting food etc.
No wine today :-( I did buy a couple of doughnuts yesterday! One left.
Boo. I'm here, feeling very sleepy after finally eating something substantial. Had dentist visit today and was drugged up.
Mmm, doughnuts. :)
I'm jealous! I bought some bonbons from work but I left them in my locker :(
Most races i did were 100metres i raced pretty much everything apart from breaststroke, i also did 200 metre medleys...
Was much easier then though, i have done nothing for too long...
ouch?
]
very much so.
My initials are PMW. If only I'd been called Bob
Hi Andy, to add my twopen'th to the naming debate, I like William, it was my Dad's name & it means Strong Warrior. I also like Nathaneal (I prefer that spelling) which means Gift of God.
That would have been RMW though
I didn't think it through.
We already have a variation on the latter, the Anglo Saxon version (he was born on Battle of Hastings day)
You could have had Boris, Bertram, Benjamin or even Brock.
send videos of my holiday? {Comment #308}
I might be able to do that next time I'm on holiday (assuming it's not Silverstone). I found out yesterday that my network provider now offers internet access at 30p per day instead of 1p per 2k of downloaded content (which worked out at about £1 to update my blog let alone do anything else).
Pity my PDA refuses to talk to the internet any more and technical support turned out to be a bunch of static...
:)
I officially hate the Aston DBR9. That is all. Carry on.
I wish I knew someone with a swimming pool. That way there wouldn’t be other people there and I wouldn’t have to look at a timetable. Not that I’ve been swimming in ages anyway. {Comment #319}
It would be useful for me too - my high speed and low co-ordination mean that going in a public session is impossible, so I have to stick to when my swimming club does sessions twice a week...
I could be a Ben.
amy says no
Has anyone even suggested Rob, Felipe or Franck yet?
FRANCK!
doh!
PING!
No-one is going to call their kid Ping
If you called him Franck, it would be blatently obvious that is was named after a certain individual. Needs a bit of clever treating, ie Frank.
and there was I going to offer myself for sham marriage, oh well
I am also dead, so I may be a bit slow tonight.
No and no, sorry.
could do. andy just called his iPod Touch.
Apparently it's a Chinese name meaning Duckweed :-D I love http://www.babynames.com/
although i bet his mates call him itouch for short.
They hadn't??? wow
Nooooooooo
Someone suggested Felipe.
Yeah it would - to us. The real world out there probably wouldn't have a clue :P
What about Seb?
What about him?
You can never have too many Sebs. Oh wait...
Maybe he could suggest a good name
you're commenting from the afterlife?
:D
That's the name of the panda.
Surely if it's a panda it would need to be pingping
I dunno. Probably, legs feel gone anyways.
Ah yes, double points.
If you're still looking for a baby name, Andy, there's a site full of ideas here, some vastly more sensible than others. I can't offer any specific ideas of my own though.
Pandas for reasons I don't understand seem to always have names that are a repeated single syllable. If only someone was doing a sidepodradio panda show where I could ask the question.
Fire could be a good name....
might be more or a girls name though
#sidepodspace wow
The Kepler space telescope has found the atmosphere of an exoplanet. It was launched earlier this year to hunt for planets that are outwith the solar system and to find Earth like planets that could support life. It is planned to survive for 3 and a half years and should find many exoplanets.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/kepler/news/kepler-discovery.html
I think it can be easy to misinterpret the many different interest (sub-)groups with an in-crowd. Each sub-group has its own little jokes shared by the people who talk about the subject regularly, yet they are all open to new people as is the wider community.
That said, it can be easy for us regulars to get caught up in stuff a new person or a casual follower may not immediately understand, purely because we're here so much. When that happens we hope someone will shout and tell us - we don't bite!
*waves at spc world* {Comment #782}

(yes, I'm still post-trawling)
You've got further than I have.
Bill?
As someone who has only recently de-lurked, you can find yourself in the middle of a conversation sometimes that you don't get. I see it like a group of friends who meet up for a chat. You don't all wait for each other to speak, listen intently whilst one person is speaking & then give a considered reply. You all talk at cross-purposes, some people get lost in the overall conversation but later on they can make their point. If we were all sitting in a pub, I'd probably be speaking to Lukeh or Christine about Dr Who, Mr C would be explaining some techie point to someone else & Alex would be passing round his holiday photos for everyone to have a laugh at. I love being part of the Sidepod community even though I know very little about F1.
That is a very good analogy :D
Just another name thought... 'Danger' as a middle name?
Michael: Dwight, what is your middle name?
Dwight: DANGER.
Michael: It's something with a "K"...
Ah I love the office :D
Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day has a child called Jakob Danger Armstrong, it's just great :-)
According to the BBC, Who has been promoted from his role as first baseman, and pole sitter to run the country.
The article doesn't have it as a headline, but it is there if you look down the right hand side of the page, http://news.bbc.co.uk/
That's excellent - frequently you see 2 or 3 conversations going on at once. I liked Nikki's comment earlier too.
Who's in charge? Uh oh!
You’ve got further than I have. {Comment #839}
For all I know I started earlier ;)
It can be a bit confusing sometimes, don't worry about it though, something else will be along in a minute and in any case you can always ask, or start another thing.
Even the bbc added a question mark, as if to say they couldn't believe the government had really chosen him...
Well I did skim through them during lunch at work earlier...
I mean, you know, he's good at baseball and getting pole position, but is that enough to run the country?
What?
Yes. In many ways it is superior to the original.
He probably knows What is What.
But being able to identify your former team-mates isnt really a qualification, surely?
At this point it is my duty as a Westcountryman to ask....
M4 or 303?
It looks like they are taking it in turns to be the executive officer for the week.
Anything would be an improvement on John Prescott :)
Heheheh :-)
The Wii is surprisingly tiring. Maybe an alternative for the swimmers out there.
Agreed :D
Surely that depends on your starting point and destination.
:D
Somerset to London.
It just seems the question is always asked in any East/West travel situation via car.
M1, M42, M5?
The Wii is surprisingly tiring. Maybe an alternative for the swimmers out there. {Comment #860}
It's probably good for entertainment, but less so as practise for getting gala medals. Hopefully there will be a gala for me this autumn.
Any East/West travel situation via car anywhere south of Bristol...
Lovely baby pics on drop.io. Congratulations to Andy and LPG :D
Jackie has her v back
2CV live pics
http://www.2cvracing.org.uk/24hrlive
Agree with Mr.C. The videos etc are welcomed!
We know this dilemma well, used to do Hastings to Bridgwater on a semi regular basis. A21/M25/M4/M5 or along the coast to Southampton then up the A36/?/A303/A39 etc.
Ooooh, that will calm me down.
Just catching up on Steven Roy's comments from last night... About how the most stupid decision was Ferrari going to war with the FIA.
I had a sudden thought. I know Max doesn't like to admit he is wrong ever but he must now admit he messed up everything he's ever been involved in in Formula 1.
For a start we know it was Bernie who put Professor Sid Watkins in to deal with safety. So the safety thing isn't really a thing.
But Max brought all of the manufacturer teams into F1 and I would say that he is now in the process of forcing them out.
Max took over the sport in the 70s. On his watch spending has increased at unsustainable levels. Now he wants to reverse it.
I'm sure there is more. But isn't there a way to see this whole exit from the sport Max's ham fisted attempt to undo everything he got wrong?
I didn't know there was a video feed.
but it is a good name for a panda :)
Max certainly has made some insane decisions and has a quite incredible record for being wrong but that doesn't seem to have harmed hs position though. Ferrari gave away an in built advantage.
Max makes knee jerk decisions because he is wrong so often. We know have cars with slicks and less aeor to give us more overtaking. In 1998 he gave us grooves and more aero because that would give us more overtaking. Look how often he has randomly changed the engine spec.
Bernie is every bit as bad. Neither of them have ever had a strategy they just react to any situation without any though for the implications. How else do we get to a situation where cars are so expensive to run that testing is banned. Surely it makes a lot more sense to specify cheaper cars and run them more than to specify expensive cars and not let anyone driver them.
You also have the wonderful juxtaposition of cost saving, new regulations and KERS. Is it any wonder manufacturers are leaving?
I think it is something of an in-joke for around here.. whenever someone arrives from Eastwards they are always asked which way they came. I'm not sure why, it isn't as if there are bonus points.
M4
I've forgotten my preview post again.
Hi Matt and Jackie.
Nicely found!
Right I'm going to stop annoying you with my inanities (is that a word?) while I catch up with Twitter, back soon.
did I get the bonus points?
I do indeed V v V v V v V and I'm vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvery happy about it
oh :(
I hope you didn't need to trade another key in for the v
ery good!
No, the nice Dell man gave me a new keyboard for my laptop
No. Sorry.
You have to take the A303 and navigate through the surprise speed cameras. Even if you aren't speeding they spring up on you.
It's ery ery good :D
That was nice of him
Well I did pay for 3 years warranty so at least I got something for my money
I don't pay for warranties on anything now. They charge way too much for them. Looks like you made a good decision this time.
Steven, the blog questions thing, is that still needed?
Jackie has killed the conversation :(
I'm here, but I'm just venting my anger somewhere else.
The sore toe football boots?
Its about football, but not the boots.
Ah. I know absolutely nothing about footy and even less about cricket
My laptop won't recognise CDs. Classes them as CD-Roms at the moment for some reason :(
Yes absolutely. There is a schedule on the page below for people to book calls with answers
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Interviews+with+Bloggers
I am doing ten things at once so started a conversation then got distracted. I am easily distracted
You want us both or a combined answer?
Up to you. You can be separate or combined. I guess it comes down to how much difference there is likely to be in your answers.
I'll do what I'm told *whistle*
Have you been sent the questions form the management?
Mr C sent me the questions and I sent them to Mav
Good. In that case between you, you should be able to work out if there is enough commonality of answers to fit them in one interview. In the end it is you interview so if you want to do it together you should do it that way and if you want to do it separately I'm fine with that to.
We're thinking combined effort there's only one question to still have a thunk about. Great questions though :)
I'm hoping there is commonality between us or we shouldn't be working together :D
I decided to try and have a logical progression to the questions and to keep them as simple as possible. The point is to let the bloggers talk about their blogs and the questions to guide the conversation. The show is not about me.
I was thinking about the commonality about where you came from and how you arrived at blogging rather than approach and your views
Ah, true. I hadn't thought about that. That's one of the answers but I won't say anything about that now.
Quite right. Save it for the show. I don't think the two of you need to have identical answers for joint interview to work.
One thing you may want to consider is two interviews gets you two plugs. I have suggested that rather than making this one show the interviews should be used as fillers between shows. I think one show of interview after interview would get boring and no doubt as soon as a blog address is given out some people will disappear to check it out and will miss the next interview.
I think that is what is going to happen.
Won't they miss the next show in that case?
I am glad you turned up. I thought Jackie and I had scared everyone away
I have been here. Watching a film, about to blog it.
Been a bit busy chasing older children away from their new brother.
Yes, sorry I can be a boring old **** at times :)
I am always here, but posting elsewhere.
Hopefully because they are smothering him with love :)
Has he got a name yet? .. he's gorgeous
I think it will be different if a new show starts but imagine we did 8 blogs in half an hour and people were checking some of them out. By thie time you get to the last one you will hav lost a lot of the audience. If there is only one at a time people will check it and listen to the show. What I wouldn't want to happen is for one blog near the end of a show to get less response because people were already checking two that had gone before.
I will keep an eye out for that
I guess they are fed up with him just lting there already
True that. So like one every hour before F1 Minute in that case? So people can check it out before the transition.
No name as yet, nothing seems to be appropriate. Like the others, it may take a few days.
They could be put up while threads are being changed or while people are getting sorted out on skype or while the fire brigade deal with Mr C's cooking
Hehehe.
Yeah, sure. Sounds good.
I'm on about timing, not Mr C setting the whole place on fire.
Good excuse for me if he does that, no show to do... :)
Not the response I was expecting
I think MrC should make and ice panda-shaped cookies
The icing could be funny if it was video'd
Cookies is a good idea. Or maybe gingerbread pandas.
I read that as the icing could be furry
It might be if Mr C has to cook in the panda suit to avoid being seen :D
Cooking with panda's :D
That has to work so long as no-one picks up the wrong idea from it.
Disaster. internet broken :( may not be fixed for 48 hours...
Oh nooooo's :(
How can that be. Surely lack of internet is an emergency. Dial 999.
What would amy do? Her 2 net connection's look like such a good idea right now...
Buy a pay as you go dongle thing-a-may-jig
No 999, but I did speak to a nice guy in india. Bonus: I now know what the inside of a phone socket looks like!
She would take her laptop to the pub where there is free broadband
Currently preparing a blog post on my favourite music featured on sim racing games :P
Also... I made what now seems a god-like decision to buy paper autosport this afternoon!
Silly question time but is sim racing those "The Sims" computer game people taken to driving cars?
I just realised following on from the livery discussion of the other day that the doohickey is like the late 70s / early 80s Williams with a white bit in the middle and dark green either side.
I missed a livery discussion. :(
:D Erm, quite far from it actually. It's short for simulation racing game, so games like Gran Turismo, Forza and rFactor. They set out to accurately simulate aspects of driving and racing such as physics, sound and damage while graphically looking as realistic as possible.
Will it be making a change to royal blue and white like williams and saudia?
Someone did a blog post about their favourite liveries and a discussion started.
Shame that the name is likely to be confused with the other computer game then.
To an outsider looking in, probably.
Who knows?
Maybe that should be the colour scheme for FutureMediaChange or something.
lukeh did one. completley disagreed with it.
Is lukeh around?
Hullo. I am Lurkeh tonight.
:D Now why does that make me think Lurpak?
Would it be alright to use your last blog post of favourite liveries, and use the idea on my blog to share my fave liveries?
Go for it.
Is it the toast connection?
Evening folks
Thanks mare.
mate even. Stupid keyboard.
Hahaha!
You're welcome dear. ;)
Heya *waves*
Hi Bassano
Wouldn't it have been more appropriate to say deer?
Lukeh lets you use his blog idea, and yet you insult him. Where's the decency in that?! :P ;)
I'm scared to say hello in case I call you something stupid.
But hello
Neigh chance (pardon the pun)
The keyboard is flawed. Wrong design, always felt it should be qwetry
Now now, let's not pussyfoot around the situation.
Not Lurcio then?
I have a problem with s and d, in my mind they are the wrong way round
Titter ye not
What's "out for a duck" mean in cricket?
Means the person is out with no runs scored
You scored 0.
Like a lot of the England team.
And my career totals.
We have ducks in cricket and birdie's in golf .. which bird should F1 be?
So nothing to do with an evening meal with Chinese Pancakes?
It means England are losing again
So why is doing something for the first time "breaking a duck"?
The score sheet is going from Zero to One
The duck is over
Duck is really duck egg which are round like zero. Breaking the duck egg means you don't have zero any more.
Yeah I can understand that. But why a duck? That's the bit I don't.
All I keep thinking of is vultures, maybe that's just the people running the show.
No, you have a broken duck egg, that's what you have :P
You also have eagles and albatrosses in golf. There used to be a team called Eagle in F1 in the late 60s owned by Dan Gurney. If we are going to have a new bird it could be hawk but what would it mean
Hahahah this conversation has gone quackers
Vulture is appropriate in so many ways
You score a hawk. I dunno, three consecutive finishes in the same position?
Ie, Nico Rosberg will have a hawk if he finishes 4th in Valencia.
I'm also thinking bluetit, since I think that's probably what they all are anyway...
Albatross!
Will he know how to look after it though, that's the question. ;)
Those golf people had no imagination or were huge ornithologists
I agree with Pat, Albatross it is.
Or were just heavily distracted the day they were coming up with the scoring.
I love the spam clip
Let's not even get into the attire
[Hey, that works both ways!]
:D
bernie now calls himself, or at least considers himself a firefighter. bizarrely he says it with a sense of pride.
a decent manager wouldn't get into a position where fires ever broke out.
Agreed, but is he implying the the fire was lit by Max & FOTA?
That goes back to the earlier conversation about the lack of strategy and kneejerk decisions from him and Max
There is how the drivers crow when they win
They dovetail victories
they then swallow the champagne
and all the time they have to try and stay the swift
Plus Max & Bernie try to act like Ostriches until the very last moment and their heads finally come out of the sand
owl.
Don't worry I won't carry on with bird puns all night. It's just a lark
well their heads go round and round.
:D
How did we miss that one?
Is startledbunny an SPC username or just a twitter pseudonym?
I have seen them on here.
eh? sometime comments here during the races i think.
re: the "bloggers questions" conversation i missed earlier...
would anyone mind if we released both gavin's interview and lukeh's interview as podcasts earlier than the sidepodradio day? the thinking being, the answers are kinda time-sensitive and it might act as a teaser for anyone who listens but doesn't read the blog.
yell if you think it's a bad idea though.
Ok, that's cool
I approve Twitter requests rather than open to all. Keeps the spam down, I feel
Go ahead if you fancy using mine!
ahh. quick plug:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/playground/search.php?s=startledbunny
;)
Sounds fine to me
You could use one in an podcast like a debrief to like share what sidepodradio will be like.
and scream if you want to go faster!
He is a commenter and is doing a show with Nikki on sodepodradio
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Travels+in+Sidepodland
always :)
I do believe quoting Gerri Halliwell is a punishable offence unless you are mocking her
i like her.
Music?
shhh.
If the answers are time sensitive they should be released early. We are not exactly struggling for content
I am tired but I look perky. So while I don't think I need to be replaced I will bid you good night!
Sometimes, Mr C, you give with one and and take away with the other ;)
Oh that was one thing I was gonna do, check out the playground, will do shortly :-)
we shall do that. thanks you all.
Me too. We call her Gelli Harriwell.
hahaha. apologies.
Cheers Alex
Beers at some point when you return
i (heart) playground i really wish we did it sooner.
Night Alex
I've heard of this, I must investigate too
Apple fights back at news aggregators on the App Store:
A small group, who have released 5 Apps per day, such as "US Army News" & "Skin Care Updates" and over 900 others have had all their Apps pulled from the store for 'questionable business practices'
"every app produced by Perfect Acumen costs $5, most only aggregate content available online"
Story here
Silly question time but is sim racing those “The Sims” computer game people taken to driving cars? {Comment #953}
I managed to get some of my Sims to do some "racing" in ghost train carriages and logs on wheels before my last reinstall. Possibly the only form of racing where a 10-vehicle crash happened before the "drivers" arrived at the track... Haven't seen any proper driveable racing cars for that game though.
I believe Scott may mean "simulated racing" in the more general sense.
Any word on the job Alia?
I’m scared to say hello in case I call you something stupid.
But hello {Comment #974}
Hello, RG.
interesting that podcasters do the same to podcasts listed in itunes and they do nothing about it.
Do they charge for themthough?
Plus, reading out the news is diffent to just supplying a story that's copied and pasted
I haven't gone too deep in to the story but the issue isn't solely (or even) to do with their content
no. presumably apple aren't removing them for altruistic reasons though? they're doing it because they have to keep approving the damn things.
neither is my objection. i guess i don't like that the search result in itunes podcasts and appstore is basically useless, and the spam shows and apps are filling the place up with noise.
They've been happy to take their 30 percent for the last nine months but I think there have been numerous complaints about this outfit
I'd agree with that
Any word on the job Alia? {Comment #1046}
Not yet, Jackie. Maybe next week.
questionable.
hate to say it, but appstore does not fill me with good vibes at all.
Here's hoping it's good news
Who knew there were so many hazards for your iPhone whilst on Safari?
(Not the browser, the wildlife tours)
http://www.edibleapple.com/ostrich-vs-iphone-african-safari-style-video/
I'm sure a Panda would never do that
Really good idea. Search is very good although I don't know what to look for at the moment :-)
i bet it would ;)
I see you guys are onto the John Hughes collection already.
Good stuff
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/08/07/film-watch-13-uncle-buck/
only one way to find out ;)
(sorry have been watching comments more this evening)
It's just me! Nothing to do with him. Don't give him any more credit, his ego is the size of a house!
It was his idea to bring the film up the list, but shhh.
is she paying you?
Sorry :)
By the way, who suggested "From Justin to Kelly"
I've not seen it but Rotten Tomatoes gives it 8%
Maybe it's one of those 'so bad it's good' things
Oh and "Rambo I" can be found under the title "First Blood"
That would be Amy. I think she did categorise it as so bad it's good, you are correct :)
:)
Am I too late to mention that Planes Trains and Automobiles is my guilty pleasure? Especially the original scene where Steve Martin complains about his rental car?
I used to work in a video shop (before my aircraft maintenance days) and could put a pretty decent guesstimate on a film's qualities from the hundreds of trailers I got through per month
nope, i thought i'd help out though ;) plus if she gets a panda i'll happily come and clean your house or cook or something so i can come and cuddle it too :P
A guilty pleasure? But that film is a comedy classic!
One of many priceless moments in that film
My weekend will include a re-watching. Time to dust off the VHS.
When Steve Martin was still good
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels deserves a mention too
Can't believe he went on to do such tripe like The Pink Panther remakes
What is this strange accronym you speak of?
Is it like MP3?
I liked that film.
i have to watch it now!
Yes, but with bigger SD cards and the playing device is the size of a house. My remote is a box on a wire!
Don't tell me...
woah!
is it in itunes? have wine...
What does vhs stand for? I miss the real web...
nooo. christine hasn't seen it.
am hiding that comment startledbunny. soz.
very high standard
I once brought home a discarded VCR of the 'Billy Big Buttons' era after a night out with 'a couple of ales'
The original JVC where the buttons were like fingers sticking out, a top loader too
I somehow had the thought that I would clean it up and it would sit under the TV as art or something
Got thrown out pretty soon :)
Video Home System, no?
okily dokily.
Ooh, top loader! We used to have those on rental, they used to cost more than a 32" LCD TV costs now.
how did you carry that?
we are literally going to watch it a bit though...
It was very heavy :)
Very high standard? Modest those jvc chaps aren't they... I am suprised they arent a ferarri sponsor!
i remember betamax toploaders. double sided tapes too.
is it live, or is it memorex?
No! Very, High, Standard! :)
(you're right probably)
Well, the did invent the format
the inferior format?
That's the one :)
Memorex? I think I have some of their cdr's I hope everyone is having a good evening... Back to 1991 for me...
You're getting in your DeLorean?
it was an 80s thing. mostly it sounded like memorex.
:D :P
He is - VHS= Video Home System. The name was to differentiate between domestic and professional standards like U-matic
the hoover company?
What was the advert with the guy sitting in the armchir being blown away by the sound quality?
I'm literally lol thinking about another scene. The guy (Mr Hughes) was an absolute genius.
The longer recording time format FTW
Memorex. Re-record not fade away. I watched too many ads as a child.
Sony U-Matic.
That was Scotch
Was that the things that schools used to use
Massive tapes!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffa1E9k3H4k
Possibly.
Comment fail.
I bow down to your knowledge. I am but a fool. With memory issues
S'ok, you're in good company
;)
Memorex had the tag line"is it live or is it Memorex?"
Noooo!!!! Vacuum cleaners.
Is bugging me now, thought it was Memorex but can't find on YouTube
ooops. i forgot!
memorex issues? join the club.
:-)
s'ok, they try and say 'I'm going to vac the kitchen' but they can never stick with it... things are always hoovered, they just are..
right PT&A is beckoning. back in 1hr32.
i (HEART) itunes.
(take back what i said earlier btw).
I think you're right. And, remembering that my memory is a bit doo dah, was it Peter Murphy in the chair?
Enjoy
*henry rolls his (unfeasible large) eyes*
Who he?
Have fun.
I feel like I should be doing something like watching a film, playing a game...something..
It only works with Shake & Vac, that's the only time.
heh.
My Dad and stepmum I mean.. they work at Numatic..
At 7 quid, I'm tempted. But I have my very high standard tape, so i'll try not to spend the money just yet.
Collaborative work get's there in the end
It was Peter Murphy for Maxell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DP89iMe0BY
It's only £3.
*gets
[shuns self for poor punctuation]
I'll get my coat.
:)
I wouldn't have found it without his name, well done
Memorex didn't feel right
All I could remeber was Ride of the Valkyries (sp?)
BTW seen as I'm 0/10 for factual correctness, looking forward to making my bit for Travels In Sidepodland. Maybe I should make stuff up anyway.
I think you get a point for Peter Murphy
Wasn't it something else? Like Night On A Bare Mountain by Mussorgsky? (listening to it right now on my itunes. i had it on CD (crocked disc). Remember them?
Def Valkyries
I've hundreds of them, need to rip all to iTunes some day
Some day...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZUIxGJ-ykI
No it's Mussorgsky. I'm 100% on that one.
Correct.
Ah, there was another then
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DP89iMe0BY
Very high standard? Modest those jvc chaps aren’t they… I am suprised they arent a ferarri sponsor! {Comment #1094}
They sponsored Midland back in 2006. Does that count? ;)
Though I prefer yours :)
I see now. They are quite similar at the beginning though.
It's because of the Peter Murphy advert that I got the Mussorgsky CD. It was over a decade later.
What's the piece called?
I'd quite like that now
S'ok, re-read the comments
More to the point, who performed that version?
"Night On the Bare Mountain" (or something very similar). Composer is Mussorgsky.
His well known work is "Pictures at an Exhibition". An old sitcom called "The New Statesman" with Rik Mayall used the beginning for the theme tune
Two nights in a row with Rik Mayall connections
Was it last night we were talking about Bottom, maybe the night before
Cheers, by the way
No worries.
I don't know a lot about classical music, but I have a lot of respect for it. It just happens that I know that particular piece.
I know and love about 3 pieces
Barber's Adaggio for Strings is another of my faves
Am really liking Ollie's F1:18 Flickr set

Birthday cake made by my Mum for me in 2005.
For some reason those photos reminded me of this.
When you were 8?
Cool cake though
Ha ha,
About 33! She was into the fancy cake making, Everybody else got one, and she decided to make me one that year.
Those are good
My friend's mum does some cake making on the side. For my 30th she asked him what my interests were.
He thought for a moment but could only come up with Women & Music!
I got a cake with 3 naked girls sitting on the edge playing guitars,
A blonde, a brunette and a redhead
I remember taking pictues but not any photos (it was an epic party)
That doesn't even make sense?
Oh wait, of the cake. Never mind.
I distinctly remember taking pictures of the cake but never saw any pics. Of the cake or anything of that night. Who knows where the camera went to
So pictures supposedly still exist, you just don't know the whereabouts. Gotcha.
Probably on a disposable camera down the back of the kitchen drawer or something, yes :)
Ha ha, classic Microsoft
Upgrading made easy
Confusing
I can report free wine tastes really nice.
Or course it does?
Grape variety/colour?
Yes, it has those
:)
Ah, one of those
Red.
2005 Chatau Courac Laudun.
Cotes du Rhone Villages.
I usually drink a Rioja or Merlot.
French Reds give me a terrible hangover
Not that many hangovers are pleasant but there you go...
Interpretation: Fancy free wine that tastes nice
I'm found of Chliean Merlot or Argentinian Malbec these days
For years it was just Tuscan Reds
Sounds fair
Mobile dohicky idea... Any way we could get a link to the content in the original post?
*fond
Most reds give me a hangover these days. I swear I used to be fine on them. I'm not planning to have the whole bottle this time. Last time... two times.. maybe three times, my SPC and Twitter convos went very peculiar.
Email it to Mr C
They're watching Planes, Trains... at the mo
Speaking of original post... no new Daily, but that can come after the film or in the morning or something
Me too. Hangovers get worse with age, exponentially
Btw I \heart/ mobile dohicky, it may be keeping me sane!
The idea, I mean
That's about it! I'm finding it a bit more drinkable and less dry than my usual.
If they get through it before I drag myself to bed, I want to ask them something. Won't post it until then.
Not to worry, I will remind him when the internet comes back
Intriging..
or even Intriguing
Free alcoholic beverages always appear to be more drinkable.
The film can't have much longer to go
They may not
Unless Mr C is doing more coding tonight
It's about the film BTW, Nothing else.
Indeed, I've been to a couple of market research nights for booze feedback
Tasted awful but no complaints
My "Market Research" nights are "Work Dos" where the boss asks if i want another drink. Well, you can guess the rest.
:D
heheh :-)
The conundrum of not wanting to turn down the boss, and not wanting to seem a drunkard..
The trick is to have a higher tolerence than your superiors
Morning!
Hi Sean
Hey fella
:)
Won't turn down a free drink, and happy to appear like a drunkard. That is until the morning after at Breakfast.
Never gonna happen!
Hello Sean
Practice ;)
It's worse if your superiors are quite happy to then drive home, and you are not.
Hey
MIRACLE!
Internet is BACK!
Hmm, good thinking. Not that I drink with the boss anyway, but you can never be too prepared...
That was a quick 48 hours
Where did it go?
Did Twitter break it?
During the "Practice" sessions, oh how wondrous it is to hear your other half tell others about your dancing in the street sessions, how you enjoyed decorating the hotel room, and how luck played a part in not being seen running through hotel corridors in one's undergarments.
Who knows, but Mr Genius dude in india has fixed it!
I may or may not have googled google in the last 24 hours! :P
Hmm. How does one get to take part in said "practice" sessions? ;-)
I am glad I don't act that way when drunk. If I'm home I just post stupid messages on the internet. If I'm not home, I stagger around until I am..
In some places on the net you would have been strung up for mentioning the T word. Not here though.
Is there pre-practice qualifying?
2. Buy alcohol
2. Drink alcohol, getting your body used to it.
Like the BBC Tech blog comments?
Drink in moderation, kids.
But what about the dancing,etc?
What about a 1, instead of two 2's? :)
Buzz Out Loud Podcast and This Week In Tech Podcast. They get hate mail for mentioning Twitter. Don't know why. I love it.
It's because us old folks just don't understand it
Maybe it's popular and the tech geeks liked it when no one else was using it
Apparently the teens prefer older comms like MSN
Twitter has an older demographic
Surprisingly more older people use Twitter than the young ones. They still use that My Facespace blah blah that's hip with the young kids today.
It's a combination of that and the fact that so much time has been given over to it in the past.
Crazy... I love it too.
well have i missed anything? guess i should go read though it all...
Hello to everyone who wasnt here before, i dont thinki have been online at the same ime as startledbunny before, so hello, i am nick and i am usually wrong :P
If you practice enough you won't notice ;)
This is true. My sister who is nearly 13 but acts older, spends a huge amount of time on MSN. I think this is because it has the webcam facility.
The younger teens or nearly-teens are on Bebo.
I find it hard enough to keep up with sidepodchat
I thought you meant do both steps at the same time
Pay for the empty bottle at the till? :)
oh yeah, hi to people i haven't said hi to before
Ah that's what "the girls" are up to then!
All I know is that I REALLY ENJOY hearing my inebriated exploits on work parties from my Wife. Don't get embarrassed at all! The "he tried getting out of the hotel room in his underpants" story never ceases to amuse me! Grrrr!
Former Honda F1 boss and Indy 500 winner Gil de Ferran is stepping down from driving for his own ALMS team. He's going to expand to run 2 ALMS cars and 2 IRL cars next year.
I have no idea where's getting the money in this economy.
Some people prefer MSN because it's the only way (apart from the doohickey of course) that lets you have proper conversations with people in real time, with more than 140 characters.
I got bored of Twitter after a day and I never used Facebook or Myspace.
Hello Nick. Pleased to meet you.
Financial institute bailouts
I wonder why he is quitting driving again
You can with skype to, as a bonus it works on my mobile :D
Twitter takes a few days or sessions of use to 'get'
Facebook got boring
My Space was good for latest info on obscure favourite bands and such
On the IRL team thing, I was wondering - possible opportunity for Franck?
Am doing it right now.
There is a lot of rationalisation going on which frees up cash to be spent elsewhere. Beyond that, its a lot cheaper to set up a new team now than in a boom
I must be slow. It's been alomst a year and I still don't "get"
How was Planes, Trains... ?
You watched the whole film?
If I wanted to have a convo with one or a few people I might be tempted back to MSN (actually these days I'd use Skype). Otherwise I just don't need it.
A day isn't nearly long enough to develop your Twitter reading habits. Try a week and follow the right people.
Mr C enjoyed it :)
Then I guess it's just not for you
Stick to SPC, all the cool kids are here
.
He says he doesn't have enough time to concentrate on that as well as run the team.
You didn't?
That is top advice.
Did you enjoy it?
I feel special. :D
I did but I cannot divulge too much. Gotta get a blog post out of it yet :)
Of course, I await
Facebook is boring. I check it a couple of times a week but only because people keep trying to get me to do things on it.
MySpace is useful for the occasional song that isn't available on last.fm or spotify. that's it.
cool, ta
Understandable I suppose. I get the impression he will be one of these guys who will be back again in a couple of years.
With time comments? I am a big fan of those :D
Maybe. Given recent background he'd probably aim for the sportscar seat though?
Yeah because I want to ask my question (stamping up and down like a 5yr old who wants some sweets)
Have to keep the content under guarf until you publish.
I recently removed all the 'email me' preferences
I'll wait though :(
Well, the no spoiler moment is probably over
You can ask!
Indeed. Mr C wanted me to be able to do it live, as we watched! Expect that to appear on his list at some point :)
Did you feel a bit sad at the end?
I like this idea. You should send it to 5live next FP session...
I did too, most of them anyway.
They still expect me to go on and look at their photos, and put my photos on it, even though I've got 'em elsewhere. That sort of thing.
It's only a matter of time before you are live streaming film watching.
Aww, I guess it depends what you imagine happens next. I like to think that they became great friends, and he moved across the street and was there for every thanksgiving as an honorary uncle type figure.
They'll get over it
Uncle Buck?
Yes!!
Oh. I was thinking someone who only gets invited to dinner if the computer has a problem. That must only be me.
Aww thats nice. I always felt really sad when he revealed his circumstances.
(loses man status in 5 secs flat)
It is sad, but I saw it coming from quite early on. At least he made a good friend.
"Those aren't pillows!"
Been wanting to say that for AGES!
Probably!
I've seen bits of P,T&A but I don't think I've ever actually sat and watched it all the way through.. Will have to do that..
Hehehe. You can let it all out now :)
Anyway, I must head to bed. Today's daily is all nice and ready for everyone.
G'night Christine
:)
Oh, you definitely must
Night.
Night.
Good night Christine
Goodnight Christine
Just realised after all the Izzard discussions earlier, instead of listening to music of debatable quality I should have been watching his DVDs..
At first, I thought you meant Paul Thomas Anderson
Will I regret asking who?
There was an Izzard discussion, damn missed that
I was listening to his Apple store live event earlier
Directed There Will Be Blood, Magnolia...
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000759/
Oh I really liked There Will Be Blood.
Boogie Nights also.
I need to watch it again
Wasn't overwhelmed the first time
Nicely shot, just didn't grab me that much
It is a very slow moving film and a little bit longer than it needed to be. I think you can tell that much when you go nearly 15 minutes before a word is spoken :-) But yeah I liked it, don't know why.
What are your opinions on Christopher Nolan films? I'll mention a few if you don't know the name.
Great work
Apart from two great Batman flicks, I really loved Memento & The Prestige
I'm going to put this out there and I'm sure you'll all disagree with. Batman Begins was better than The Dark Knight.
Just looked him up :-)
I liked Insomnia, and The Prestige was.. different?
Coincidentally my plan tomorrow night was to watch one or both of those Batman films..
I'd go with that
or even tonight... Saturday night.. stupid nightime being morning..
I preferred Dark Knight, but its a close thing, and it's nothing to do with Heath Ledger.
Memento blew me away, but its very weird. Not everybody's taste.
