Our first ever multi-day thread. How odd.
Mr C and I are taking a break from things, and this time it's a real break, not one where we turn up in the comments after an hour away from the site.
Hopefully we've left you with plenty to be getting on with. Last week we published a Joe show and a Stuart show, and yesterday I put this weekend's F1 Debrief up.
Hope everything is well with one and all.
Well, good morning.
So, nobody to keep an eye on us, party time?
I say we take bets on when Mr or Mrs C turn up in the comments ;)
Oooh I hope Mr and Mrs C are off somewhere exotic! It's anniversary time isn't it?
I was just going to suggest a sweepstake. I reckon tomorrow evening 8pm
yes.. well next thursday i believe (same day as a friends birthday, am not that creepy... honest)
I'll go the 8th - 2pm
wait... what?... that was in reply to Alison.. ah well.
Much love to Christine and Mr C, hope to see you around soon, enjoy your break! x
I know I have a go at NASA occasionally but why does Yahoo news have a story on damage to the shuttle from the launch and NASA doesn't?

i really should be asleep by now.. but i'm watching 'The Man Who Cycled the Americas' on iplayer and i'm totally hooked.. i'm gonna be shattered tomorrow

Hello all, just quickly dropping by to direct all F1 2010 game fans to this link:
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f1-2010-game-1316/411156-f1-2010-what-we-know-so-far.html
One feature which I spotted was this:
Also, I literally just spotted this in the same section:
:D
i know i missed it, i was listening to the debrief i think :D
:D
i get addicted to these travel/adventure things too easily, i was the same with 'long way round' and the other one..
Oh my. The Northern Dream Team is coming by the sounds of it. Watch out F1
I may be slightly bigging up my ability of driving on racing games. I'm more like the 2002 Massa.
It's fine. At least you don't have an addiction to food programmes when you're trying to save money on pretentious unnecessary food!!
I'm glad I watched that, wish I'd done so sooner.
What's all this about going away? This isn't allowed.
hehehe i'd rather that tbh, cause i get all upset that i'll never get the money to go to these places. or stupid things like how i'd love to do something silly like climbing a mountain, but in reality i would hate every moment.. i confuse myself. :D
Going away is outside?
Hmmm I see a life of obesity and/or bankruptcy.... I'm sure cycling is good for you!
Ooh multiple day daily? Good idea! As I saw Crofty mentioned earlier and it reminded me, whats all this that Stuart tweeted about Bbc not wanting him to be called crofty anymore?
If you want a good one by the same people, watch Race to Dakar. That's another brilliant series. But I agree, can't get enough of Charlie and Ewan on dem bikes :D
Hey folks,
Off to bed now, but am just going to get this in quickly before I drop off. I guess I shall see some of you tomorrow evening.
GP3 Secures Broadcast Partner: http://wp.me/pSi0N-4N
Well you can't possibly avoid the doohickey when you are inside, so they must have gone outside. Mobile doohickey is marginally easier to avoid due to data charges. :)
The BBC is probably still in the 1930s
Ah good to see it got a TV deal... of sorts..
Night Leigh.
i never liked cycling... i wouldn't mind doing the 'by any means' way of travelling round the world though (as long as i don't cycle... was never really taught how to cycle)
Of sorts being the key term, but its something...
Plus the theme song for RtD is awesome too!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW-4KnJN3IU
I love love love cycling. Nick won't go anywhere with me :(
I think images on twitter have to be a profile shot of them, I know that much.
I need to see that too...
actually before i do split, where is the thingymebobs tomorrow night - all I know is that it's on Goodge St
i was confused by that too, i didn't know if it was a serious tweet or not, so i thought i'd wait and see. never occurred to me to ask the comments - doh!
The best cycling is sitting in front of the telly watching hours and hours of the Tour de France.
i'd rather be out taking pics of the cycling ;)
I thought it was on the back seat of a tandem
*hums addictive song*
A real earworm :) Love it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b9RSV9p8Vo (shame this is only the audio)
heheh I vaguely remember this one too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inxg017BAi4&feature=related
hehehe that was awesome :) Mark Beaumont is brilliant! it somehow makes it all the more amazing that he did most of it on his own filming and everything. love it :)
and with that i must attempt to get some sleep, night all! xx
Night lou, have fun tomorrow :)
have a good day
I have set up a wiki page for us to let Christine and Mr C know anything they missed while they are missing. If you see something they need to know or something they would be particularly intested in put it on this page.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Things+MrC+and+Christine+need+to+know
For those who aren't going to the London thing, don't forget the VivaF1 quiz at 8.30pm UK time.
Good night. Don't make yourself ill in London
Aww, the one night I go out...
Excellent idea.
Sleep time, see you whenever...
See ya Pat
It's been a great night for photos. This one shows a mountain range in Indonesia during the earthquake. Look at all the dust being thrown up
http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local-beat/Camera-Captures-Natures-Power-89947392.html
Thats a lot of dust. I take it they haven't been used in a while then..
Multi day thread. Good timing as I am in the n
middle of nowhere. However I will have to celebrate my birthday with JV all alone. :-(
Ooh paul is your birthday on friday? Its not on the calendar!
oh, just keeping it a secret :-)
Yay! April babies rule. There seems to be lots of us here :D
it really does. Sidepodapril :-)
Darn tootin'!
June.
.
June is what you meant to say :P
Happy Birthday Paul!
for Friday...
How's a new iPhone OS announcement sound as a present?
anything new sound brilliant. I'm so glad I have the iPhone on this trip. It's been great.
Happy Birthday Paul!
Speaking if earthquakes, did anyne listen to the latest TWiT where one of the guests in LA felt an earthquake from Mexico, while they were live on air? Funny thing was that validation came from Twitter, the pulse of the Internet, as Leo would say!
To go off on another tangent, what are people's favourite thing to photograph? Just recently been getting into the world of DSLR photography and with some nice weather I love taking piccies in the back garden. Was just flowers this past weekend and various shots of the bits table to test out depth of field variations! Hoping to get a dedicated macro lens at some point, or at least a zoom with 2:1 macro until funds allow something better!
Sorry for the random topics, with the absence of Christine and Mr C I felt the need to contribute to the Sidepoduniverse, something I'd love to do more of if time permitted. Hope you all have a great day :)
Woohoo!
oh you too?
his is double mine!
um. So that's me plus 1?
I mean the date :D
There are three people coming to check out our spare room tonight. I am scared. I need a new flatmate but I don't want one.
well so did I but now I'm confused :-)
heheh, all I know is mine is 12 and his is 24 :D
yuk. Can they just pay the rent and live somewhere else?
that sounds ideal.
ahhhh. For some reason I thought you were on the 5th. That must have been someone else
ahh yes, that was Andy Taylor.
Got my A s confused
yay! people born on the 12th of a month are awesome! :P
my dad and me and my brother are all the 12th :D my mum is the 13th because she is silly.
hehe how scary... me, my dad and my aunt are all born on the 12 (you share a birthday with my aunt :) ) but my mum is born on the 13th!!
Amy = Lou?
ooooh very #sameperson!
scarily so! :) only you eat a banana the right way, no way i can compete with that ;)
Does the number12 have something to do with stalking race drivers? Hmmmmmm
thats Petrov's number and he's about the person I am least interested in stalking :D
well JB was driving car no 12 in 2006 when he won in hungary... so.. erm, possibly. However i don't really have an interest in Petrov.. soo......
that's not fair, it's lovely weather in Wales and yucky weather here.... i hope it's somewhere in the middle in London. First time i've gone outside the house for days and it's the one day it's not sunny :(
Good morning. I like sunny days.
That's crazy!
shift change! i'm off to london! see ya! xx
I was doubly confused because I thought your birthday was the 16th. I must look at my calendar more
Have a good day!
Help! How can I defragment a drive in Widows 7?
ahh found it, sorry
Yeah you should ask Kathi she knows ;)
Do people still defragment drives?
Can't remember the last time I did
She told me to not be a lazy idiot and ask google. She is quite rude.
I do. I like it when the coloured bars moved around in XP. 7 doesn't do that :(
Me too actually... and it doesn't??
I downloaded another one I used to use, can't remember the name and don't know if it works with 7. If you remind me tonight when I'm home I can tell you the name.. I should do C: drive again come to think of it.
Kathi, the easy way to find things on Win7 is just start typing the name in the start bar search. It works quite well.
I think it was this one
http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-Disk-Defrag/3000-2094_4-10567503.html?tag=mncol
thank you.
Morning, folks.
All sorts of articles on Joe's blog up now. Main headline, though, is an alliance between Renault and Daimler.
And something about the almost-certainty of an Indian GP in 2011. Interesting that Joe also says Abu Dhabi will be the closer in 2010 AND 2011, with India also interested in taking that spot.
I am sure everyone is interested in the closer. I wonder if it is being auctioned off. In his talk Jod said Brazil was good for the closer because of the time zone.
I wonder who will loose out to allow India in?
wahhhh flatmate hunting, make it stop, make it stoopppppp.
:( the next one will be perfect
the problem is my other flatmate is soooo picky. She has said a definite no to any people who work retail, tradies and a definite no to one who sounded perfect but is a chef. She seems to think anyone who doesn't work in an office isn't worthy of living, and is definitely not going to pay rent even though we pointed out to her that tradies especially make really good money and the rent is not very much.
We both liked one of the girls who was here today but we get the feeling she didn't like the room very much.
There's nothing wrong with working in retail!
Can't you just replace her too?
I know! And the one who works retail said she likes baking cookies! What a perfect housemate!
My flatmate is on a huge salary though so she has a very skewed view of what is normal. If I told her how much I earn she'd probably ask me to move out because I'm so "poor"
I'd like to, I'd quite like her bedroom. It's bigger than mine and it has an ensuite :D
Maybe you should make this as complicated as possible so that she decides living on her own would be the best option
heheh she started mentioning today the option of her buying her own place sometime soon. As much as I hate flatmate hunting and don't want to have to replace her as well, I realllllly want her room :D
I guess wages are poorer in retail though. If i had a comparable job in another sector my wage would basically double... Problem being i'd never get the job :P
Isn't the rent higher on the bigger room with nice bathroom?
they definitely are, but in no way would anyone on your average retail wage here struggle to pay the $138 a week rent :D
Do people still defragment drives? {Comment #94}
Occasionally I do because otherwise Sims 2 slows to a crawl (I am liable to pile gigabytes of custom content on my copy and the game accesses the hard drive a lot. Also, it used to be one of the few things that could send me to sleep when I was having a bad night as a kid (it no longer works, but the nostalgia is nice).
they definitely are, but in no way would anyone on your average retail wage here struggle to pay the $138 a week rent
$138 a week? That's a lot of money - when I was working in a library, that would have nearly cleared me out of money every month, before considering such things as food or utilities...
can't you just show them a photo of Heikki and ask them what they think?
average in this area is about $270 a week which I certainly can't afford :D
what is it in £?
about 80
average in this area is about $270 a week which I certainly can't afford {Comment #120}
Anyone who tried charging that much where I live would find themselves never getting to rent out the place because everyone who could afford it would live somewhere else.
That's not bad at all then. :) I was paying that on 'mate's rates' sort of thing for a small granny annex flat, for 3yrs. Really helped clear my debts off..
The x-rate has changed a lot though, I remember an Aussie mate came over here when £1 got AU$3..
Actually if it is for a room rather than a flat then its probably the same as my town.
yeah, I remember when we used to talk about going over there and the rule was always whatever you had in $ you would only have 1/3 in £, which is quite painful, but its certainly not that bad anymore.
yeah thats the cheapest room, total rent for our flat is apparently £1110 a month, according to google currency convert :D
Big place? :)
not particularly, but it's quite new and it's only 10 minutes walk from the middle of the city :D
In other news I'm quite traumatised because I bought a chocolate bunny today but I am getting the feeling I didn't take it out of the shopping bag before I then filled the shopping bag with rubbish and put it out in the wheely bin because that darn bunny is nowhere to be found. It was only 75c so not expensive, but I really want the chocolate!
actually to go back to this, one of the people who came to look was an Italian guy and I asked him where he was from and he said "you might not know it, its an area called Abruzzo" and I said "oh, I know it, Jarno Trulli is from there!" and he looked at me odd.

I know Jarno tends to keep a low profile because he is modest and doesn't do attention-seeking, but still...
he said "who?" and I said "the Formula One driver" and he said "oohhhh Jarno Trulli" but of course when he said it in his Italian accent it sounded a lot more better than when I say it :D
:)
Hate when that happens..
I think they pronounce it Yar-no, we pronounce it Ya-no. :D
Hello all. Oooh, the Cs on vacay... ;)
Hi
hey everyone!
apple keyboards are odd!! and magic mice suck... but i love the mac :)
(lou)
I still can't get over the banana revelation
(lukeh)
hello lou-keh :D How is London?
the weather is horrible, but the apple store is awesome. lukeh is tweeting on his phone, not sure he has grasped the idea of free wifi...
oh and typing on a mac keyboard is really hard... when standing up, and feeling ill. lukeh is making fun of me.
I am merely taking an interest in your typos
@lou and lukeh are you guys sharing apple gear?!
Am on my train, it got crowded with kids not far from me. help!!
well.. it's very busy in here... i found this one first (lou)
Talking to yourselves, eh? ;)
Nice to see you're enjoying London.
Hi guys. Shame about the weather seeing as it so nice here...
I was going to say say hi to Mr and Mrs C for me but I see from the wiki they are no longer attending. They do breaks good!
Ooooh. Sounds like a sudden vacation, then. Last I heard yesterday, I thought they were attending. :)
their reason for not attending is 'bored witless with f1'
so they've disappeared to some far-off distant land, then? :)
Is Franck racing this weekend...?
Afternoon folks
i'm sad i don't get to see them today, i made them something but will have to wait till next time.
i understand why mr c doesn't like using capital letters on a mac... it's hard!!
just so i don't drive myself insane. on a mac... is it shift enter to post a comment without using a mouse? lol
I think they are taking a break for their sanity, which I appreciate. I fear if they don't they'll give up on us all together, they are really not liking this season at all :(
you're really not selling me the mac experience!
Ah, a laptop.
Headphones, a Debrief, a pasty (not Greggs :( ) and on our merry way. Life is good!!!
no it's awesome, i love it. it's just different. plus i'm ill and have lukeh laughing at me..
:(
I think I'd be loving this season had Schumacher not been in it and I could be impartial. :)
I am liking that I had the best weekend ever at Albert Park but I do need more dry races to judge the rest of it :D
right i'm being dragged away from the mac... i want to buy one :( see those who are at the meet up later... :P xx
byee!
Get lukeh to buy one for you.... ;) Have fun.
I heard your voicemail when Jeremy phoned. I am so gonna have to go to Melbourne. That was hilarious!!!
I'd easily have the best weekend ever at Shanghai if I can get Schumi's autograph... :D
See ya lou-keh! :D
I enjoyed not getting his autograph :D
it would be even more fun with more people. Although im not sure we could have fitted more people in the truck
:P
you need to find a crazy German woman to follow
I hear Sutil's on the market. :D
Hopefully they'll come back refreshed.
Part of me hopes they turn up tonight just for the social occasion (and not talk about F1).. but another part of me reckons a total break is the better course.
bye!
Does China have a padock autograph area?
Echoed. They work so hard I forget sometimes it's just them doing it.
Will donate some more at the end of the month when I get paid.
Oh, and my fee for the Lowestoft Air Festival will be donated to charities and good causes. Sidepodcast will be one of my good causes. Total pay is around £200, split 4 ways that's a nice haul for the charities and SPC.
Sadly, no. None of the Tilkedromes have, IIRC.
I had the best weekend ever too. thanks to you, Paul and Pamela.
How about we all stop judging F1, and just enjoy it. Stick the crayon back up your nose Homer!
Indeed.
Malaysia 2011, yes or yes?
Too true. All for the best I hope. *fingers crossed*
Or? Will consider if my budget (and family schedule) can take it. :)
waaay too early to make that call. i sense that I am a little bit different from you in that respect
boo. Well good luck with the Schumi hunting. I could have quite easily got an autograph fir you if I had known
Malaysia tickets are released in November, IIRC.
Hehe. Tis all right. The autograph is just half the story. I wouldn't wanna miss out on personally seeing him. :)
heheh Pamela said the same thing.
phew! that buys me time :)
woot! Now to choose which hotel. I have decided I want to 5-star it up so I can spend all day by the pool :D
that late? But Amy will already be booking accomodation and transport ;-)
Don't tempt me to say yes..... :P
Pics or it will never happen. Deal? :D
really? Even with white pants on?! :D
he was smaller than I expected
once I make a decision, it happens ;)
try this on for size: http://www.crownregency.com.my/crown/
:)
I'll ignore that, thank you very much. :P
you should lead an army
I think I'll go to Malaysia just for that hotel, who cares about the race?
white pants rock!
hold on, weren't you complaining about rent earlier? Did you win the lottery and not tell us?
And it's surprisingly cheap. We spent PHP6000 per night, which is...GBP100 per night, thereabouts?
An Amy Army? Gawd, don't tempt her...
I was looking at much flasher than that! heheh I think I may be dreaming.
I was trying to work out where Heikki could have been since him and Catherine both tweeted about getting the train into the city, but I couldn't find anywhere really flash that was out of the city, and near to the track.
That is nice. I think I know where I might be going on holiday in 2011
really? I'm there !!
no, my rent is fine, I was complaining about my flatmate thinking other people won't be able to pay it :D
Plus I figure with 52 weeks to save, I can certainly afford to splash out a bit. And I see they want to make track tickets cheaper. Win/win!
lets book out a whole floor! party party party!
LOL
Rates are here:
http://www.crownregency.com.my/crown/rates.htm
Apr 1-3 was the Malaysian GP weekend, which is a fair comparison. :)
:D Hahaha! The room we rented last time was a bit spacious. Renting 1-2 rooms will more than suffice. ;)
I might just wait to see what happens at Spa first ;-)
then again, Williams said there were 6 teams staying at the Marriott Putrajaya and I certainly do like the sound of staying with 400 F1 folk :D
The train into the city is the KLIA Ekspres, which goes to the Central Station. That doesn't really tell us much about where they're staying.
NOTE: Sepang is out of the city - it's near the airport, which is a good hour away from KL.
I'll hold you to that, and expect pics. ;)
it's also twice as expensive as my pick. but hey, if you can afford it. :D
like I say, 52 weeks to save!
aren't you going to Europe or something?
I doubt you'll see much of the teams unless you buy them lots of drinks at the hotel bar.
shhh, thats paid for (mostly)
oh that's right I forgot about that planning thing you do
That's not just planning, that's organisation down to a mighty small tee!
:D
you should see my "Europe 2010" ringbinder.
there were heaps of Torro Rosso and Mercedes people with laptops in the foyer of my hotel in Melbourne every night
Twitpic. Now!
LOL. Why aren't you in project management?
true, planning would be even MORE fun if it was someone elses money :D
a picture cannot capture its beauty, there are so many pretty pages full of so much beautiful information :D
Does it have coloured sticky tabs?
they are on my list of things to add to it.
Oh come on, that's more reason to come to Melbourne......
ahh by then Europe will be in the past and the folder will be no more. Malaysia doesn't need a folder because I already know most of what I need to know :D
Guys and girls, I think I know where Mr C and Christine have gone;
http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/statuses/11754581822
Hmm, I think the daily of going to the 11th might have been a bit short.
hahaha... that background is awesome.
little bit :D
We're never going to see him again. :)
Now that the iPod and iPad are out, what I'd like to know is when the iPud will be released...
*hides*
Well, am here at the restaurant waiting outside for the rest. You guys have an eta?
Wasn't 7pm mentioned? I can probably do earlier though.
That's crazy-early!
I can be at the place at your earliest convenience. Might do a short pub crawl. Will DM you my number on Twitter.
Course DMs don't work if you don't follow. Didn't realise that.
Am I not following you?
What's your account?
turkey_machine
had no idea you weren't following me!
I had no idea... You have protected your tweets maybe that's why? I have requested you.
now accepted. mobile internets annoying on old phones
bassano cant make it. :(
I did always say it was a 'maybe'
Next time
Hi all
Hello Bassano
Apparently, the iBrowse comes next
Where's Gavin, he should be free for some daytime drinking?
Wassup, RG
Still on Easter break?
Yep, one and a bit weeks still to go on this one.
Frickin' brilliant news!
Good for them :D :D :D
I've been on shift since Good Friday, it's been a long week
found maplin. help!
Back away from the tech pron TM
but its so beautiful...
Was this mentioned earlier, post by Joe today?
Renault-Nissan and Daimler form new alliance
Renault [Lada ;) ] F1 to have Mercedes engines in the future a possibility?
its like i entered geek heaven. with pretty lights.
Powered by AAA batteries, recharged from the thoughts of coders everywhere :D
Bonjour! x x
Comment êtes-vous tous aujourd'hui ?
How are we all today?
(ok i'm in a silly mood excuse me!)
Je ne peux pas vous entendre
au revoir
x x
Hello Elissa
Very well thanks.You?
Je ne parle pas français très bien, du tout
I do not speak French very well, at all
#ThanksBabelFish
Votre français est suffisamment proche !
Hey it's good enough!
Is it me or is the news between races not as exciting as last year?
No 'omg' i must read this stories
Well, Scarbs has just tweeted this:
After two races of inter team accusations, the FIA have outlawed suspension that adjusts ride height in between qualifying and the race.
TBH, there is an English only policy here [one of the few rules]
But at least you are self-translating :)
That makes me sorta smile inside...
Better text the gf..she's not a fan of RBR
Anything found on their car? they'll probably go even quicker now in China to prove a point.
I think it's not just them
Ferrari, suposedly, have a manual adjustment to their ride height
Puts a stop to MacLaren's development in that direction!
I'm in a silly mood...i'm not really french....well strictly not true...I just wasn't born in france (french parents)...so I'd say anglo with ever so slight french influence
Doh!
Thought we'd be in with a chance then! I dispair at our decisions recently..I actually avoided friends on sat night because I knew the ribbing i'd get
Interesting
Not French with an Anlgo influence?
Ah, no more 'ride height waste' then. (can't use -gate)
Evening all! How are things?
Meh....
English girl through and through...foreign parents
Bill Bailey has just tweeted that the 'Wurzel Tax' has been dropped :)Ministers drop plans for 10% increase in cider tax
That'll make Pat happy
What about during the race itself though? Poor wording yet again from the FIA.
Fair enough, how you feel is what counts, in my view
That'll make Chris happy too! :)
The FIA has told Formula 1's teams that any self-levelling damper system used to regulate the ride height of a car between qualifying and the race during a grand prix weekend would be deemed illegal.
"Any system device or procedure, the purpose and/or effect of which is to change the set-up of the suspension, while the car is under parc ferme conditions will be deemed to contravene art 34.5* of the sporting regulations,"
Furthermore we believe that any self levelling damper system is likely to contravene 3.15** of the technical regulations.
From
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82763
Funny you say that...
My mother was arguing me the other day about this very subject...
In her eyes i'm French first English second...I disagreed saying i'm of French stock but can't be as i'm born here!!
Yay for cheaper cider...stowford press for me please!
That's more like it.
I'm with your mum on this one
But it's your view that's important
And Magners for me, while your at the bar ;)
Hello hello ... when exactly do parc ferme conditions end? Does being on the grid before the race count as parc ferme?
Ha fair enough....
Be boring if we all agreed...
*you're
I believe it does.
Magners...oh Bassano i was just getting to like you!
Wash yr mouth out squire with some proper cider!
x
Indeed
I think it does deopend on your environment when growing up
I grew up in quite an Irish London community, so feels more Irish than British
Could be worse, could be Strongbow!
Bleurggh!
Precisely! I only drink it because I'm a student and it's cheaper than real cider
Well it should be Bulmer's but they're not allowed to call it that here cos someone else already does!
I haven't tried much Cider to be honest, not been in the West Country since I began drinking it on occasion
Guinness is my preferred tipple, as most people here know :)
Do they still sell 'K'?
sat in The Fitzrovia on Goodge St. pre-italian drinking!
I think the only thing that tops that is those horrible teen ciders like 'Diamond White' etc
(Shudders at the memories)
Never heard of it. Sorry!
8.4%
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K_(cider)
magners isn't the same as magners in Ireland though. It's bulmers isn't it? Quite confusing.
Pre-Italian?
Dinner?
ah right on same page.
brilliant will join you there.
I don't think there is a Magners in Ireland. As you say, there it's called Bulmers
Hence the name chamge for the UK
Don't ever drink Bulmers in the UK but in Ireland, it's nice
controversial I know!
But the venue has big tables and will let us stay as long as we like.
is now the time to say i hate cider? Never liked it. Much prefer beer, proper beer!
@alex: brilliant. Youngs is 2.50 a pint too!
I don't subscribe to the 'eating is cheating' philosophy
Eating let's me drink for longer :D
there is a magners in Ireland made by the Irish bulmers company. It's their cheap strong one their. So lots of Irish people thought English people were all mad drinking Magners as it's like saying, "have you heard of this great new drink Diamond White"?
I don't get on with Cider to well but there is a picture of me on the drop somewhere with lots of cider.
Ah, didn't know
Don't really do cheap drinks. As Cheeky Vimto proves!
Evening folks,
Shall be out of the office in about 20 minutes - is it still on Signor Grilli on Goodge St?
I love cider but buy me a nice red wine and i'm putty lol
i remember that, I think
exactly. I was trying to think of somewhere central which wouldn't be too noisy or too crammed. And for pubs that can be trouble.
Are you around Monday? ;)
[another drinks meet-up]
it is. Join us at fizrovia on the same road if you're early.
Possibly but I live out in the sticks (Oxfordshire) and London maybe a mission for us!
I have a gf mr the btw...yes I know what yr thinking lol
Lou is coming from Kent
It was an honest question, bring her too
My pub invitations are a bit legendary here
The SidepodCommunity needs to be less reliant on Doohickey and more meet-ups and laughs
Organising Spa is part of that goal
While Doohickey is a laugh, I totally agree. Btw, are you going to Goodwood this year Bassano?
will do, if i'm out there early enough - coming in from hammersmith
I hadn't considered it but have read about the rave reviews from the previous two years
When & where is it?
[Don't say "at Goodwood"]
Off the top of my head, it's 2-4th July, and it's near Chichester.
FoS not Revival, right?
Yep
Ok, quite simply
Why should I go [apart from the brilliant SPC folk to hang out with]?
You can get up and close to various cars from previous years, as well as watch them being driven up the hill circuit by well known drivers. There's a rally course, which I didn't get to see last year, but apparently Timo Glock loved it. Also, there are various sports cars to look at, as well as demo cars from various companies.
I'm not good at describing things. People who have been, what have I missed?
I'll certainly think about it
Is in the Calendar now
Folk go for a day or the whole weekend?
Bet hotels are not cheap
I'm there for the weekend, but I'm a local so hotels aren't a problem. On the plus side, I can help by scouting the pubs out for you :)
OK, I'll test the waters and see who's up for it then
Local-ish Pub/Inn would be ideal
£50 each for Sat or Sun, £107 for all three days
thats an expensive weekend
#isnothere
#fainted
It seems that doesn't hold back it's popularity though
Cheaper than a GP
*realises he needs to save more than he had expected
True!
true but would much rather spend it on going to lots of other meetings
Good evening
It does! :) I should buy some to celebrate, although it would be siubject to the tax... Haven't had any in ages, summer drink really.
I like the Bulmer's sold here.. I think..
From 'The Feeder Series' host, I can understand that
Hi Pat & PJ
I saw the rally stage. It's a long way for not much IMO. But at the very top you can see drivers more clearly.
I've only ever done one day before and I was always busy, lots of walking.
Its gone up
haha, its not a single seater thing, i just prefer club motorsport more than big meetings
I think I'm interested in racing than drivers or static cars
I get that, seems fair enough
More value for money
Compared to Goodwood, I mean
So am I but Goodwood isn't your average 'collection' event
£105 for a 3 day ticket and what £100 for a hotel?
I could do 20 one day club meetings for that or 8 national 2 day meetings, id enjoy that much more!
Heheh, Alex that was a nice tweet to Lukeh and Lou :)
http://yfrog.com/1ho1dj
Now they'll definitely find it
Lukeh's Gregg's Radar will show them the way
Did everyone see that Mr C has an iPad and is app developing as we speak?
Saw that earlier. Please make them iphone compatible!
@bassano yes, oh yes. some holiday.
This sudden burst of summer has hampered my packing somewhat. Now filling bag with dresses I know I'm not going to be able to wear.....
Unless it's an "HD" app, it should be compatible with both
I think he's been holding off on the app writing whilst waiting for the iPad to launch
I've had a few conversations in the past few months with him about apps and stuff
Didn't he say ti wasn't his, but his companies?
Friday's supposed to be decent down here, Sat & Sun dry
Who can tell in this country!
I haven't seen the sun since I came back from Dubai! Tbh, I've barely been outside in daylight hours it was a big shock when I came out of work today :P
Don't know, am not up to date with twitter yet
Oh I see it now, ok he's playing with one
You can still use dev simulators to write
It was gorgeous here yesterday, today not so much
I had to take some time out earlier to snap the blossom on the tree outside my window which is in full bloom
It's only going to last a short while before all the leaves appear
Well I had a scarf and gloves on yesterday and I had to de-ice my windscreen before work 3 days last week so maybe that gives you an idea of my baseline....
Weather in this country is so effed up
Nice and sunny here today but with a cold wind and a hint of warmth. Lovely indoors though, with the sun coming through...
I love it though. I couldn't cope with anything more extreme in either direction :P
I'd kinda like a stable winter and a stable summer
Not an erratic sine wave of seasons in a week
Yeah I guess so. I'm just so struck by how much time I spend indoors....
It's not exactly been conducive to outdoor venturing lately
I've seen many films and tv shows filmed in the UK.
I am CONVINCED that you guys never see the sun there. It's always cloudy and gray or raining.
We do atmospheric and miserable drama quite well :)
I'll have to take a photo
This is a good point extremely well made
http://www.thebullrunf1.com/2010/04/video-bbc-f1-ignore-toro-rosso.html
Photoshopped! I'll say that before you even send it!
;)
The weather here has been great all week, if a little hot, but it kinda sucked last night because we decided to do a "Le Mans" style start for karting.
It's NOT easy to run in full gear.
I saw that tweet, what's one of those then?
Oh, like 1950's GP's?
proper old school start :D ive seen them before, very amusing
Cars lined up along the straight, drivers on the other side of the road, they run over to the cars
no
Yeah, Amusing is a word I'd use, especially when the drivers ages range from 10 to 60 :)
When did Grands Prix stop doing that then?
Pre-war?
They never did it
I don't mean F1
I thought they all did that, way back, was it just a Le Mans thing?
Here's a picture of one:
http://classiccars.about.com/od/classiccarphotogallery/ig/Le-Mans-Classic/Running-Start.htm
As far as I know it was just Le Mans... or sportscar racing in general perhaps.
Agreed
Hymie drove a great race
I've added it to this page Steven made, 'cos even if they don't want to watch any more F1 they might get a kick out of the editing.
And the banana peeling isn't there?
Shocked!
:(

Good shout, I'll add!
Is this Heikki's Catherine?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/5pz6c0htqypg0ctp-jpg
Ah, they said it would become unsupported soon...
Are Flickr link's embedded here?
We shall find out, didn't think they were
I think they are and Picasa's aren't but I've never tried
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bassanoclapper/4500100285/
Oh yes! :)
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/PatrickWotton/2010VigoSpain#5454569995823154194
Not on DD
Same on normal, ah well :)
Is that where your Sis lives?
Region, not beach
That is on her doorstep almost literally! Come out of the door, cross the road, walk 30 seconds across a car park / bit of grass and you're standing there.
Cool
Nice part of Spain?
We can't have an archive of that size that isn't searchable and is being pensioned off :(
Very nice, yeah. Big-ish town / small city but not geared for tourists really, and that makes it nice and relaxed. There are things to see that aren't well-advertised so no huge crowds, admittedly it was early in the season.
I hadn't realised you'd had a snoop around Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.. or maybe I did and forgot
Someone mentioned going through it and picking up the interesting and funny things and putting them somewhere else... sounds like a big job though
Yeah, trust me to visit Montreal in the year there's no GP
Mr C did a Debrief shout out for meet & drinks
"He's a nice bloke but he will get you drunk"
I need to sort my Cape Town pics and up them
Big editing task, I over-snapped... a little
I remember you'd been to the city, not so much the track.
I know someone who went to the race in '05 and he reckoned the hype of the city didn't live up to the reality, did it as a double with the USGP and preferred Indy.
To where?
SidepodCommunity Flickr?
Groan! Nick took loads of pictures and then never showed me any of them. I think this is the worst of all worlds. I get bored when photos are being taken but I like to have them later....
The race or the city?
Something like that I think
I took 205 over 6 days in Spain and thought that was way too many, it probably was
I'm getting quite into photography but need more discipline to finish the process
1500 in 7 days.
Ooops
I knew there would be a huge cull though, tried to get the right shots
In Dubai?
The city. The race was okay albeit ruined a bit with a massive hangover. :) Said the track was in a big industrial area and looked like Birmingham. I tried to tell him Birmingham doesn't have a big waterway in the middle, or a racetrack.
blimey!
Yeah
It's on a massive artificial island, it's not industrial!
The city was okay, I enjoyed the pubs more to be honest
Christ almighty! Not that many though.....
50 mins or so until the VF1 quiz. Startledbunny and I usually fight over 2nd-last. I think we've got a good chance this week since everyone else is out.
That was the other gripe, getting in and out of the circuit. I took it with a pinch of salt because if I'd had a massive hangover I'd probably complain about that a lot. May do at Spa but in advance I'll say I'm expecting it...
I had some pretty special subject matter though
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bassanoclapper/4500148551/
Yeah, tube only
I think I'm special subject matter! :D
:)
Well, that may be the case but would you want Nick to be taking hundreds of pics of you on holiday?
I'd rather that than have him take thousands of photos of buildings and stuff....
Or at least show you what he did take :)
Run kitty, run like the wind!
http://twitpic.com/1dvwbu
Silly boy! I'm going to make him take to to LegoLand. I found vouchers, there's no excuse now..... That'll teach him!
Windsor?
Cool, am in Windsor on Sunday afternoon if you're near
You want to come to Legoland??? :D
Alas we're going to have lunch with his aunt and uncle on Sunday.
When I get the lens I've got my eye on, I'm heading down to the Natural History Museum
I love that building
No, I'll be in a pub near the river :D
Text if you need an escape, I can create a 'minor emergency' ;)
That was my number
[meant to text it, sorry]
Oh okay haha
Escape from Nick or his family??
Your choice :)
Does every new F1 track need a funky building?
http://joesaward.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/grid.jpg
Eurgh!
Less 'funky', more 'imposing'?
Yeah, maybe I was thinking of the American usage
Funky: adjective
strongly musty
'cooked greens make the kitchen smell really funky'
It looks like the architect went to B&Q, saw the white contiplas stacked on the shelves, and took that as their styling cue
Awwww
VivaF1 quiz in 20
Could be a little quiet. SidepodPubbing and sports on TV, it seems
I'll be hopping between Viva and here I expect, depends how involved I get. :) Normally I'm cooking during it but I'm trying to do that first.
Why do we never see the Yello & Red striped flag? :D
"Warns drivers of a slippery track surface, usually due to oil or water"
http://www.vivaf1.com/glossary_y.php#Yellow
Is the VivaF1 login not the same as the old site one?
It should still work
Hmm,
I'm getting "Invalid Username"
And
ERROR: There is no user registered with that email address.
Should I be logging into the forum?
I've asked in the chat and it should still work. You can re-register if you have no luck.
doesn't matter
That email address is already in use
Forum or Blog login?
Forum i think. Blog posts give a wordpress login, which doesn't work
Oh I see. Forum then. Or Chat.
Looks like Viva is currently experiencing server problems too
I noticed
interesting description:
In his solo venture Jónsi departs from the ethereal, dreamy landscapes present in Sigur Rós' music and instead concentrates on shorter, more instant 'portrait' tunes
'Portrait' tunes?
new one on me
Seems quite cool so far though
Sounds like load of artsy-fartsy-horse-poop to me.
(the description, that is, not the music. Haven't heard the music)
I don't know where Last.fm get their descriptions from but the album is good
Former GP2 team Durango has announced that it is applying for the 13th slot in the Formula 1 field next season
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82765
Applications must be received by 15 April, with the FIA promising an announcement by July
Which means "We realised that maybe we left it a bit late for Lotus last time"
;)
I don't like the sound of:
Durango dropped out of GP2 at the end of 2009 due to financial issues
There'll be a Northern Rock F1 team next
Durango have been running in GP2 and before that F3000 for well over a decade so they are an established team, that's the plus point... They are known as competent but not that special and tend to run in the back third of the field unless they've got someone really special on board, that's the minus point.
Enjoying Go Do at moment
Ignore it, those teams dont often get a lot of funding outside of their drivers, and they only had one driver at the time, so its not their fault. Also had a massive shunt at hte end of last season which wouldnt have helped
VivaF1 login:
Think my username is incorrect, can't 'confirm password' cos need username AND email address
Can't re-register as email address is already in use
Err...
can you go to the confirm username thing?
Lou, Lukeh & I are seeing him next month
Where's that?
Never mind, got it
My postie is going to get angry with me I'm sure of it. Spurred on by my victory in a competition designed for children, I have ordered many free items online....
You're keeping him employed, he should be happy
O2 UK update:
Today I was asked for Customer Service feedback via text :)
Did I tell you I won a cyberpet playing a stupid children's game? I was quite embarrassed. Last time I did something like that they sent me a game of operation because I had a monthly high score on some game for 5 year olds.... EMBARRASSING!
Though they scored ok on Warmth & Friendliness
Not so much on Level of Knowledge or Overall Satisfaction
What's a cyberpet?
Are you playing this on CBBC or something?
What planet do you live on? You've never had a tamagotchi? The games were on the blood donation website if you really must know....
Bad times over on the VivaF1 Quiz
Limping server, I think
Tamagotchi yes
A cyberpet implies it was online
Weren't they in the 90's or something?
Yeah.
What decade are you in?
:-D
lasted an hour with one of those. made me feel like a bad pet owner. i have a fish and 2 cats, they're both still alive, i can't be that bad
Today or generally? ;)
Wow
First sold by Bandai in 1996 in Japan. Over 70,000,000 Tamagotchis have been sold world-wide as of 2008
Sidepod meetup dubai is complete.
Fourstar and I met, he has the photo, we would have taken more, especially on the roof top terrace, but the beer was a distraction...
and 69,999,000 are in landfill sites now
GRRRRR
That and the fact that your photos are classified :)
Hi Nick
Excellent!
For me!?
Fourstar obviously took it, or asked someone else to
You're more than welcome to my tamagotchi!
No, "kids things"
They're too old for you ;)
Is it a duck? Can I eat it?
Just don't put it in the fridge
Freezer is much safer ;)
We've moved to the Viva Drop chat (bottom of page)
http://drop.io/vivaformula1
Where are we meeting on Monday Nick?
Not too far from Oxford Circus please :)
Hi Andy
We're usually between Charing Cross and Waterloo
Are you on Regent St by any chance?
#Classified
Shouldn't be a problem. I may or may not be visiting somewhere near to Oxford Circus on Monday.
Gotcha
Did you see that Mr C is playing with work's iPad import?
Yes. Several other people I know have been similarly blessed. Jealous.
I thought I was gonna get a WiFi but now I'm considering a 3G
Just give us a date or something
Oh and I wish they'd stop emailing me updates about the release when I registered interest on Apple.co.uk :)
Your guess is as good as mine.
Don't moan at me, I can't help that, sorry.
Not at you, just generally moaning :D
Yeah, I know
Those damn chinese need to work a bit harder :)
Erm?
Make more, faster :)
Hmm. I'd prefer quality over quantity.
One of those pub places?
coal hole? chandos?
Why break the tradition...
Nick wants me to add votes for the coal hole because it would be romantic or something although to be honest, I'd like to stay far away from the decision making process....
Romantic? With me and Bassano in tow? I doubt it.
Nope, I've decided
We're going there
Sorted :D
And Lou, Giggles and maybe more
I think she is trying to say, she would like it since we had our first drink there ;)
sounds awesome! :D
It's done
Just the two of you though...
And that was romantic wasnt it? with Alex there-n-all ;)
#isnthereforfearofalison
you should come :D
Nope
#sorryalex
YES!
Jon?
What time? Mondays not great for me
Late afternoon onwards... ish
haha. let me know a time and i shall let you know
I'm sure Alex would understand
Did you send me your phone number Bassano?
I just did ;)
Oh, ok then
Think so but can DM again
haha i have an early-ish start the next day and a long car journey to wales so it makes a difference :P
we will be there for hours, let us know when you are coming and we will tell you where ;)
Where did you DM me?
This would've been months ago
I'll do so on twitter now
Done
:(
Thanks. I have an old DM from you, but no number apparently
Maybe I didn't then :)
#SheDoesntDoThisInRealLife
in a good way...
#phew
whats this? dare i ask
What's that supposed to mean? Do what??
Is Jon brave enough to find out though? ;)
#busted
hahaha. shhhh
You dont go :( because you are all :)
Domestic!
Well Mr C & Christine aren't here. Someone has to
nicely saved
I'm not entirely convinced thats what you meant....
I need popcorn
Before anything breaks out (;) ) who's on the attending list?
McLaren T-Shirt going cheap
Heikki fans only:
https://www.mclarenshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10551_-1_38672_VMM351
Amy!!
Myself, Nick, Alison, Andy, Janna
Lou & Giggles are strong possibles
Maybe others
OI
awesome
I think I am morally forbidden to wear a McLaren Rocket Red Victory T-shirt to Spa as it's overtly emblazoned with "Vodafone"
might clash with your vodafone ipad?
Andy, are iPhone gloves discounted yet or should I wait for August? :)
I won't have one of those
if it's a london based activity, i'm out, but wish i was there.
Same unless it is a weekend or I get time off, which I'm a bit busy for atm
You can join us virtually as if you were watching Withnail And I
I couldn't possibly repeat it here but @fourstar's last tweet is very funny
#NotForTheEasilyOffended
6 music one?
I know nothing. No, really.
The problem with the Withnail and I drinking game is that you don't just have to match them drink for drink, you have to match what they drink too.
Would it be unwise to say I don't understand.... Drinking games never work out well when you don't understand!
Evening all
Kermode & Mayo suggest a Caipirinha instead of lighter fluid
Hi Steven
need to find a hardware store, for the meths.
they didn't drink that did they? that's in my imagination isn't it?
Lighter fluid I think.
The VivaF1 quiz is running late and is being held here http://drop.io/vivaformula1 due to server issues, if you're interested
Have you seen the film? If not, you just have to watch and all become clear, well more sort of fuzzy.
I started a wiki page last night so that if anyone sees anything that Christine or Mr C would be interested in there is a way of letting them know. Also if you see anything that should influence Christine's rankings it should go there too.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Things+MrC+and+Christine+need+to+know
You need to watch Withnail though, just don't play the game whilst doing so
Hi Steven
we're on Q23 already, flying through
No. Its okay. Im sure Nick will look after me, I'd be pretty heavy to carry home....
Pat plugged it earlier, I suggested the banana opening be added
must watch again
It's really late. I think I will pass as I am doing three things at the same time already.
Good idea.
Ooh, you little multi-tasker, you ;)
IMDB says that Richard E Grant drank vinegar (which replaced the water he'd drunk in rehearsals), so you could probably get away with that instead.
What makes you think he'd carry you home?
I showed someone today and they said they discovered it last week. His Mum had been doing it that way for years and he never knew
Is this some kind of National secret?
Someone already added it
You think he'd leave me lying on the pavement?? Mean.
Yeah, I think I heard they did that to get the reaction they did on film
I think
its guarenteedthere is a high possibility that if you are then he'll be on the pavement too ;)Yeah, Pat
After I suggested it
I had heard of it before but I had no bananas at the time so I forgot about it again. I have now tried it and it works
I didn't mean to suggest he'd leave you on the pavement. I was thinking more of a taxi.
Oh, you've had practice at this.
Well done
That's real love.....
I have seen a few earthquake reports on twitter over the last couple of days. I came across this map that shows all the earthquakes in the last week. Are there this many every week or is the world about to blow up.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/
Not exactly, but I was getting disapproving comments from LPG.
ouch
There's been one in the last hour NE of NZ
Prove me wrong :P
1010 miles North East
That's the red one on the map. Red means it happened in the last hour.
He's tried to carry me before. I don't think it ended very well. I think the pavement is a likely destination.
For a sidepodmeetup, they are awfully quiet on the internet aren't they...
If you look at the past 8 - 30 days chart
There's plenty on nearly all the fault lines, especially in the Pacific and Indian Oceans
You were drunk but he wasnt? I am shocked
California this week has had dozens and is still having them
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Maps/special/California_Nevada.php
Depends on which page you're looking at.
They are in a restaurant, maybe they are being civilised, what with me not being there an'all :D
The one I linked to

It's like the Doohickey of Earthquake reporting
Or EQFB
Alex's iPhone battery must be flat. It's the only possible explanation.
/He usually carrys his Maplin external with him
Even Norway is having earthquakes
No twitpics of the menu or the drinks, standards are falling. :) I expect a full report tomorrow.
How dare they actually speak to each other.... I'm horrified!
If they can't get in the comments I expect them to tweet each other at least.
He's left that at home, obviously (should have got a Mophie Juice Pack).
There's been nothing from Lukeh on Twitter for 9 hours. His battery must have gone too.
No qik streaming. hmm, not good. even i filmed a balloon once, and i wasn't doing anything.
The first thing Nick told me when i met him was that when he was with Alex the time before, within 2 minutes of them sitting down he had his phone out live streaming. So i'd say somethings wrong :P
I choose to assume they have no signal in the restaurant. That must be it.
As is Turkey, Italy & Poland
I wouldnt let him film me.... I find it a bit creepy
I dont mean Alex. He obviously isnt creepy! :D
They're way too bulky for my liking
It's just not the SidepodPub way!
Bassano do you have any quiz answers or were you spectating? Kimster is looking for them.
I prefer it to a plug-in battery because it's less likely to break the dock connector
I'm not overly comfortable with it but you have to expect a little at a meetup...
ah so Nick is creepy? ;)
I think Lukeh made them go to the Gregg's across the road and all they can say is Om Nom Nom
No I was just looking, thanks for asking
:D
Are you trying to cause a domestic? :P Luckily Nick is too asleep to get involved.
can't have, they don't open late nights. they should, but they don't. they would make a fortune.
It was still afternoon when they spotted Greggs and told Lukeh & Lou
I think he has made them stay open until the food is gone
wish i had his powers, could do with a cheese & onion pasty right now :(

After two races of inter team accusations, the FIA have outlawed suspension that adjusts ride height in between qualifying and the race.
What about during the race itself though? Poor wording yet again from the FIA. {Comment #280}
Because you'd have to breach parc ferme in order to get a non-electronic system to maintain ride height for 22 hours of parc fermé then lose ride height during the race. Unless you initiated it at the first pit stop using a manual action such as a tool-based ride height adjustment "prompting" the system to start passively altering the ride height.
At which point I see where you're coming from. Would insisting the ride height must be the same between the end of Q3 and the end of the race to within a set tolerance work?
"Furthermore we believe that any self levelling damper system is likely to contravene 3.15** of the technical regulations."
I got 22.5, which pleases me :)

Aha
We were wondering :)
Furthermore we believe that any self levelling damper system is likely to contravene 3.15** of the technical regulations. {Comment #666}
Ah. Article 3.15. The moving aero regulation. The regulation that is so all-encompassing it implicitly bans all F1 cars past present and future unless the FIA happens to be feeling merciful on any given day...

Does every new F1 track need a funky building?
http://joesawa....com/2010/04/grid.jpg {Comment #447}
It looks like one of the buildings I had lectures on information learning and communication in at university except with half the floors missing. 1960s bleurgh!
At least nobody can accuse the Indians on over-focusing on glittery glitz, smoke and mirrors...
Don't I get the joker half-point then?
thanks Steven. I was having problems. The reception wasn't too hot in the place for video then my Flickr kept sending me to the mobile link. I took the m. Part out of the m.Flickr.com thing but obviously there was another bit.
I'll check

I missed that, thanks
He obviously doesn't know you well enough yet ;)
No problem. For some reason it randomly inserted #/ into the url. Very odd
Apparently it was a 2-point question so you got 1 point
Shock horror
Alex socialises with poor internet reception. Who knew?
Tamagotchi yes
A cyberpet implies it was online
Weren't they in the 90's or something? {Comment #497}
Yes. They were the craze of Christmas 1997 - I remember having a monkey for two weeks and it was pretty annoying but addictive. Got fed up of having to wake up at 4am to feed it though.
In the last two years, they've had a mini-revival, particularly in Japan.
Apparently it was a 2-point question so you got 1 point {Comment #692}
OK, that explains everything, thank you :)
Another venue crossed off the list for a return visit...
Does that mean Lou's maps and planning doesn't consider reception? No wonder Lukeh and her always end up wandering
I hope he has informed the venue that they need to solve the problem if they want another visit.
It may have had poor reception but it was a fab place, thanks to Alex for choosing it. Are we back at the Coal Hole on Monday?
Aye, late afternoon - early evening start time
To be finalised soon
Hi everyone. Just got back from the restaurant. Both Mrs. Goat and I had a really great evening. Thanks everyone for coming - the restaurant was really nice and we really enjoyed catching up with you all. See you at the weekend when we get back to Denmark :-)
Hi Gavin & Janna
Good to see fun was had by all
I have seen a few earthquake reports on twitter over the last couple of days. I came across this map that shows all the earthquakes in the last week. Are there this many every week or is the world about to blow up. {Comment #617}
Over the last few months, the Pacific Plate has been extremely active as it's been rubbing and folding under all the other plates. This accounts for most of the quakes. I do wonder if the volcanoes in the middle of the Pacific Ocean are being more active than usual.
Judging by the map, the Nazca plate is also more active than usual. I wouldn't want to live in San Francisco right now, but I don't think the world (or even the city) is about to explode in a plume of magma.
Ok, will be in town from late morning so anytime will suit me.
Hi Janna and Gavin
Does Leigh know?
I can't tell you how happy I am that the world is not going to explode. If it did that would prove my theory that we will all be wiped out by a space rock wrong and that would be annoying.
I thought Bruce was gonna save us
Jaime just tweeted this!
http://twitpic.com/1dwxck
He's a strange lad
Not sure tbh
I'll let him know
I thought it would be alcohol that would save us :(
Jaime just tweeted this!
http://twitpic.com/1dwxck {Comment #709}
Does he plan to do the China weekend race looking like that? And if anyone in the press notices, what will it say about F1 priorities?
Not if the planet blows up under him. No point drilling if we are bein volcanoed to death.
I thought it would be alcohol that would save us :( {Comment #714}
Maybe it will save us from underground explosions the way Bruce will save us from cosmic rocks...
I think that could cost him ranking points
i'm off to bed
thanks Alex for the video. Got a nice surprise when everyone popped up. I don't lurk/comment/visit enough to know who was going to be there. Must try harder.
night all
Quite a journey for ya though. Night.
Added it to the wiki page
could he save us from F1 rocks? please?
(i'm going, no, really)
Night startledbunny
even folks
fun evening tonight - how is everyone?
Bruce is our only hope. Of course this assumes anyone bothers to follow the rocks and give him a little warning.
Hi Leigh. We have just seen Alex's video
hey
could he save us from F1 rocks? please? {Comment #721}
I think that's what ear defenders are for (if you mean the PR gimmick). Bruce probably has an ample supply of them though ;)
even folks
fun evening tonight - how is everyone? {Comment #723}
Good evening. I'm fine, thank you. Just trying to finish off Part 2 of my LMS primer - only I can see that turning into a three-parter all by itself, and given that LMS racing starts on Friday that's not exactly ideal!
...and my attempt at staying covert?
Evening folks!
Yes :D A late answer for sure, but I couldn't let it go unanswered!
Ahoy hoy, evening all.
Hi Jim and Amy
...and RG
Hi Leigh, good to meet you tonight. Just trying to stay awake so I don't miss my stop & end up in Bognor.
Amy,
Someone posted this earlier. Cheap Heikki T shirts
https://www.mclarenshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10551_-1_38672_VMM351
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9V8oAOUMSs
Dunno if any of you have seen that. I got a kick out of it though
genius!
Thats what I thought when I saw it, not just because I'm tifosi. Pretty clever idea. I'd like to see him do a lap from the last race where Nando didn't have a clutch.
Ooh nice but I already have the womans version of that shirt. Plus I am in a feud with the mclaren eshop at the moment :D
Awesome, how does he keep time without looking at the screen?
Ear piece and a couple practice shots at it I assume.
Pretty impressive. You can do some impressive stuff with those guitars.
Nice to meet you to Janna - nearly missed my stop on the tube myself
:o
Speaking of Alonso... Apparently sometime during my 20 straight hour shift I had on Monday/Tuesday, where I was rebuilding three servers all by myself in a dark room, I decided that buying Fernando's signature Puma was a good idea. Not smart... These things are terribly ugly.

Bit of news for everyone - the main artist at this year's Indy500 Carb Day is.............................................. (guess)
I am having so much fun with this :D
http://nikeid.nike.com/nikeid/index.jsp
I'm trying to come up with some F1 team colour schemes. :P
Dot Matrix? :P
I had to double-check where I was before I stepped off my DLR train at London City Airport.
Took me 30 minutes to find the damn Travelodge mind......
close, but no cigar - it's ZZ Top!!
Ah, typical... :P
At least it is a band I've heard of this year :)
Hi guys BTW, at my hotel after finally finding it. Damn roads in darkness disorienting me!
Goodnight all. If you see me on here tomorrow during the day, please shoo me - I'm supposed to be doing some home study.
Good luck with it... Red Bull and headphones..
Well, have fun I suppose ;) Night.
Hey TM
Anyhoo everyone,
I'm off to bed - shall be back tomorrow at some stage
:)
See ya.
See ya tomorrow Leigh
Before I do split, here's a difference between F1 and the IRL: the IRL go out of their way to put up copies of old races on their You Tube, while FOM spend all the time taking F1 clips down
Hi all, said I would comment when home. Am here, hope everyone else gets home safe too. 'Night all, comment with you later.
Hey all, i made it home in one piece :)
Hey lou! have a good time?
yes! it's been awesome, despite the rain, and the complications i had with a mac keyboard :D
how has everyone else's day been?
Long. Worked 8 hr shift, then had to drive home 3hrs from the work site to heat cycle a set of race tires for this weekend. I'm beat.
I think I saw that... Been sunny up here for a change, so just took the most of it.
Heya
Busy day at work, which is good because I got a lot done (may be quiet tomorrow though).
Watched a bit of House, did the Viva quiz while listening to the Debrief, quite a chilled evening.
hey lou. mines been alright thanks, i may have started another blog, but you aren't allowed to see it for a while (mwahahahahaha)
should be asleep anyway, night all
addict :)
just like I am to commenting... no doubt as tomorrow is a quiet day I'll be around a lot too...
ditto, night everyone
Night Jon and Pat.
another blog??... tis totally unfair that we can't see it :(
hehehe night jon
night Pat.
The world has gone to bed
I'm still up =) Doing expense reports
i'm here, am waiting for Lukeh's delayed train to get home so i know he's safe in wales :) that and i can't stop coughing.
I have always hated those. Everyone thinks you make a fortune from expenses and I have lost money on them with every company I ever worked for.
You need a great photo to cheer you up
a great photo of what?
How about one of a mountain during an earthquake with all the dust and soil etc being thrown up in the air.
http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local-beat/Camera-Captures-Natures-Power-89947392.html
I lose a lot of receipts and such. My company owes me around 15k right now and I'm trying to claim back reports and what not right now. Huge ordeal =/
oooooo!!!!! not that i'm too sad (although goodbyes are always upsetting :( )
It is always a pain and you always end up losing receipts. 15K is a lot though
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow!!!!
Talk about being in the right place at the right time. If they had been facing in the other direction they would never have known
that is incredible! seriously incredible..
I hav never seen anything like it. I have become obsessed with earthquakes this week owing to all the stuff on twitter. I have no idea how many earthquakes there are in a normal week but we have had over a thousand this week which seems an awful lot.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/
1,000!!!?! wow.
1080 now
what??? that sounds ridiculous!
Tell me about it... I need this cash to finish building my 2010 race car =(
heehe i've just watched the video alex took of us all in the restaurant, am very confused by the fact he says it was thursday night... i could have sworn it was wednesday..
When you look at the map it is incredible. The map for California is really scary.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Maps/US10/32.42.-125.-115.php
Clearly Alex was confused
goodness! and to think many of them wont have been felt by lots of people... i almost wish i could experience an earthquake.. (a small one) we had one here a few years ago but it was so small i didn't really feel it.
i will feel sorry for him tomorrow when he wakes up thinking it's friday :(
There was someone on this week's TWIT who had an earthquake live on the show. She was skyping in
Earthquakes I can deal with. I lived in Cali for quite some time on and off with business. Tornadoes scare me to death though.
oh my! that must have been interesting...
tornadoes look awful! *shudders*
California just had another 4.2
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Maps/US2/31.33.-116.-114.php
She was talking about it and everyone in the studio went straight to twitter. In about 30 seconds they were telling her there was an earthquake
the wonder of modern communication..
Sounds horrific!
She was starting to panic and everyone in the studio was quite calm. I think they have been through so many they don't painc even though it was a 7.7
Not fun to have around either. Both the times we had a tornado in our area were probably the two most frightening moments of my life. More so than wrecking at Laguna Seca.
Is bassano around? or is he sleeping?
He was around for a while earlier but I have no idea if he still is
i've just seen his flickr pic
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bassanoclapper/4500148551/
so pretty, i wanna know how he ended up being so close to the cheetahs!
His last comment was at 11pm when quoted a pic of Jaime
Jaime pic
http://twitpic.com/1dwxck
hmmmmmm........ rrriiiiigggghhhttt........
I like the one that looks like it has just spotted dinner.
That is about the most complimentary comment so far
the one on his twitter? it's incredible! there must be an awesome story behind the pics...
:D it just seems very... odd... 'why?' comes to mind... but i think i'm starting to realise that Jaime is just a bit.... different :P
The cheetah in the photo you linked to. One has its back to us and the other with the lead looks like it has spied something tasty
The original comments were like that. He is a bit........weird/odd/strange etc
ahhh :D i thought you were talking about - http://twitpic.com/1dvwbu
hehe i must read through the comments tomorrow :)
I saw that one as well but the other one is a far better photo
indeed, but it makes me very curious and jealous of his trip!
Definitely. Imagine someone taking a cheetah for a walk on a lead. I suppose if you let it off the lead you would never see it again
you'd have to have it trained... i bet they are strong animals, would be hard to control it if it was pulling on the lead.
I think they would need to be raised by hand to be able to do that with them
most probably, it would be awfully cruel otherwise.
They would eat you otherwise. There was a program on earlier with a couple of men in an enclosure with three lions then taking them for a walk. No leads though. They would be pointless given how strong they are.
wow!! Taking a big cat for a walk would be an incredible experience! Taking a tiger for a walk would be amazing :)
Yay! Lukeh is home which means I can now go to sleep :) night all! xx
Night Lou.
Don't try to take a tiger for a walk. They are huge
#sidepodspace
Keep your head down at lunchtime tomorrow. Thy just found another space rock and this one is going to the Earth closer than the moon. It's only a baby though and is far enough away for us not to worry too much. Of course there could be a huge one out there coming closer that they haven't found yet so best keep your head down.
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/asteroid-earth-close-flyby-100406.html
As someone from a country with a fault line straight through the middle of it who used to live with an obsessed geology major I can say that 1000 earthquakes in a week isnt as bad as it sounds. nz has heaps every day if you look on the tracking website but the majority are never felt by anyone. I used to feel probably 2 or 3 a year. I miss earthquakes. I have never been in a really big life endangering one though so that may be why I enjoy them.
Birmingham in the UK has more tornados than any other part of the world... But they are tiny and you hardly notice them.
After living in Australia for 675 days I have finally organised an appointment to trade my new zealand drivers license for a victorian one. Super procrastination success! In other news I also really like that my predictive text rejects jiving before living.
Clearly it also selects rejects before selects.
Are you sure thats a good idea?
Are Victorian licences still valid? I didnt think they had cars back then...
*groan*
:D
Morning guys. Not totally hungover, but did have a great evening. :D
Anybody know where Alex posted his video of us in the restaurant?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexandronov/4501036146/
Fantastic, /me bookmarks for safekeeping as Vodafone blocks Flickr and YFrog as over-18 content!
Good morning Sidepodpeoples.
That was amusing!
Morning all
Morning jon.
And morning pat.
Can I point out, if its possible you had missed it, that I am purely hopeless at packing :(
hehe we know. We can help! What needs packing?
EVERYTHING!!!!
Break it down!
for how many days?
Im going to London tonight. I think my issue is that I dont really have time as i have to go to work now
ah. just get al your clothes out. simple
#lovesbeingaman
Hahahahaha my clothes don't all fit in the wardrobe, forget a suitcase :P
hmm, how many days?

hi
I put in my dressing gown and that appears to have filled the suitcase. It might have to go....
ok so go get 9 pairs of socks and undies out, 4 pairs of jeans then come back!
put it in a carrier bag and have it as hand luggage
I'm certain I dont own 4 pairs of jeans!!!
haha then however many you do have
4 pairs of trousers seems excessive though.... How dirty do they really get??
if you are me, very, but i guess normal people can get away with less
You only really need two pairs of jeans and maybe something a bit posher if you're going out for a meal or something. Or better quality jeans.
You could try cleaning your clothes while away. I got bored with that and now have a bag full of dirty clothes. Luckily I am home tomorrow.
I don't think I have worn my jeans in 3 weeks away. Shorts, on the other hand....
Shes gone quiet....she must be packing
#shocked
Anyways, I give up. I have to go to work. Im sure youll see me whining later.... Bye!
booo see ya
Bye. Make a list when you are at work.
Woohoo! Made it on the train, with breakfast. time loses. i won!
Morning all
Hello
Morning lukeh. good evening for you sir?
Yep, great evening, was a very good laugh :) shame the train home was so frustrating. Stupid trains!
didn't ruin a very good day though.
oh dear, what happened with the trains?
Ah, stratford. perenially a building site!
Got on at London paddington as usual, got to Reading and we just sat there for an hour or so doing nothing until they told us there was a problem with one of the carriages, so I got off and waited for another train to cardiff central. It came, but went to compleeeetely different locations on the normal route between cardiff and london paddington so it took a lot longer to get home on that. I was knackered by the time I got it.
Good gods, I had no idea you were going to Cardiff!!! Thought you were staying at Lous, like a sensible Lukeh. :D
That's harsh though, them not telling you anything just sat at Reading. First Late Western I trust?
Hehe, pretty much. It's usually alright but it did take the mickey a bit.
Afternoon
Has anyone seen the race edits by FOM for Bahrain and Australia? All I can say is, whoever chose the music for the Melbourne edit is a legend :D
http://www.formula1.com/video/race_edits.html
I see Jakey in the Aussie edit!
G'afternoon folks.
Hiya RG
I have subway mug love :D
Afternoon all
How do you make Migranes go away? :( :( IT HURTS SO BAD
tell me about it :( I had one yesterday... Best thing I find is to drink lots of water and if you are suffering from light sensitivity then shut yourself in a dark room and try and sleep. I often get them of an evening, but sleeping them off is the best thing imo. Hope you feel better soon!
you like the underground?? :(
My miraines suck so bad, my vision goes all blurred and out of focus, then that stops and the headache comes. Owwww.
Subway do mugs?
Do Less Stuff
I was doing nothing when i got it!
You buy a cup or something and get free drinks of some sort dont you? or have i got that wrong?
What had you been doing for the previous 36 hours?
:( they are awful, both my aunt and I suffer from them and we both find taking strong painkillers and sleep help.
Very little, Sleep, went for a run this morning, came back had a shower, ate more food, drank lots
they can be related to things like dehydration or not eating enough (like blood sugar levels)?
Conclusion: outside = bad
I don't usually get them when I have that, i had lots earlier though, im going to go sit in a dark room
FACT
i always find electrical screens make it worse :( I hope you feel better soon!!!
It still blows my mind that you're just like "oh hey, I'm on a train and now I'm in another country"
It's a mindblowing experience. Like the banana thing but with more trains.
also, ping: http://toata.wordpress.com/2010/04/08/73-the-fear-of-being-a-rollercoaster-tycoon/
AAAAAAAmmmyyyyy. Can I bother you once more with my problems on skype?
I'm going to freak out every single time I cross a border in Europe. Anyone travelling with me, be prepared :D
surrrrre
hehe I'm so pleased he can :)
That reminds me...
passport.
yes!!! Please get one. :)
I have a nice lift of stuff I have to do so I don't forget :)
Would be soooooooooo much easier if I weren't working tomorrow and saturday though. Boo.
*list, even. Can't get those underground lifts out of my head.
:-)
Remember to have your passport to hand at the tunnel. If this freaks you out, wait until you hand over your passport to the French officials while still being in Kent.
I am jealous. Can you build a train to New Zealand please? It's only 2579km or 1603 miles from here to Wellington, it's not that far :D
but working is giving you the money to do the things on the list ;)
heheh. I am kind of sad they don't really have border controls in the Schengen area anymore. I want lots of passport stamps.
urgh! *shudders*
hehehe but flying is cool!! :)
hehehe that's fun :)
but so expensiiiiive. If the South Pacific had an easyjet equivalent it would be OK. We have a couple of "budget" airlines but they're really not budget by any sense of the word.
You won't even be asked to show your passport unless you're flying.
boooo, damn you organised Europe!
You get stamps?
:(
*shakes fist at us*
Sounds like you and Europe will get along just fine then ;)
I think the outside hates me :( every single day I've been stuck inside it's been warm with clear skies (Inc today) but when I actually went out of the house yesterday it was horrible weather! :(
Indeed. Everytime I arrive in Australia they try to encourage me to use the new self-immigration-electronic-booth thingy that they have for New Zealanders but I refuse to even though it would be sooo much quicker because it doesn't give you a stamp :D
I went outside this morning. Can't believe it took me 15 minutes to get a letter posted at the Post Office (international recorded delivery prevented the "stick it in a postbox" approach), though the JobCentre part was unusually quick.
Ooh I know how that feels. It took me 40 minutes or so monday to send something off *shakes fist at easter*

The upside is that my local post office has now introduced delicatessen-style ticketing complete with comfy curvy seating so people can sit down while waiting...
I went outside for 20 minutes, now i have a migraine.
outside = bad
hehe they've done that too at the main branch in the city centre. It reminds me of argos :D
hehe they've done that too at the main branch in the city centre. It reminds me of argos :D {Comment #937}
It does me, except that my local Argos has four plastic chairs, even though there are frequently more than four people queuing. Wait times tend to be just as long, for that matter!
Biggest. news. ever.
They are making Johnny English 2. http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=27530
I loved Johnny English!!!!
you will be very pleased to know that Johnny English is a film i have seen! :)
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
Wooooooooooo!
good because explaining that in the style of cool runnings is impossible!
but i do hope someone will try!
so do i :) hehe
Easy
Those nasty people from the USSR (or Savage) try and become winners (king) but the ambitious if not slightly inept Jamaicans (Johnny English) and the coach who knows how to do it (That lass who helps him) try and save the day and in the end become heroes and everyone loves them (him)
not bad!
Slick! :)
nice :D
Thanking yous ;)
Ant has been spending his day working on the F1 2010 game
http://twitter.com/T4RG4/statuses/11823289666
awesome! :D
When it comes out and people love how much it feels like F1, we'll be able to say 'that's because of Ant's awesome input' ;)
well... you will be able to say that, i only have a wii so wont be buying it.. that and it's probably best i don't buy it ;)
This is true, based on yesterdays discussion :D
cashier number four, please
I put this in the 'Stuart podcast' thread but will crosspost here in case people are only checking the Daily when the read back. I'm sure Mav will be around to plug it again later :)
Maverick at VivaF1 has reviewed Stuart's book and is giving their copy away in a competition. I'll enter when I get home. :)
http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=2615
I assume it is Mav anyway because Jackie's posts usually appear as Saltire...
Just finally catching up on posts I missed when I was away... Jim: you're mad.
James Moy has some pics up from Malaysia!!
http://www.jamesmoy.com/section376770.html
ooo and i've just realised he's blogging too! I make that two brilliant f1 photographers blogging now :D
hehehe can't wait till Amy read this from James Moy -
'In complete contrast, when Nico Rosberg, a Finn, pretending to be a German... '
I need to have words with this James chap.
:D hehe well at Spa i'm going to be keeping an eye out for any photographers i recognize, am sure if i spot him i can point you in the right direction ;)
WHAT????
I got the reservation confirmation for the second mobile home. They are not next to each other :(
#sorrykathi?
oh no! i'm sure they aren't too far away though?... nothing stopping us hanging out in one or something... hopefully the weather will be nice and warm and we can sit outside in the evenings #beingreallyhopeful
No not far away.
*pats you on the head* Sure Lou, it will be sunny and warm :D
it will! it's August... it's gonna be awesome and warm... :)
it certainly wont rain... my cameras wont like that....
Ooo!! Ooo!! Apple will be talking about the iPhone OS 4.0 from 6pm, nearly forgot about that!
Yes, my manager picked a brilliant time for training.
oo i forgot too. 40 mins to get as much history revision done as i can then :)
40 mins to finish this chapter! :P
go go go! :P
Right, I'll be off. Enjoy that Apple thingy.
Byee RG!
I'm keeping an eye on Engadget's live updates.
9:51AM Still not in! Looks like this could start a little late...

http://live.gdgt.com/2010/04/08/live-iphone-os-4-0-event-coverage/
i like gdgt
so many ipads sold.. and none to me :(
Not even a mac to compensate!
i came to the conclusion that a macbook must be easier to type on ;)
Wooooooah.
“Let’s start off with the first one, the biggest: multitasking!”
10:15AM - “If you don’t do it right, your phone will feel sluggish and your battery life will go down. We’ve figured out how to avoid those things, and that’s what took us a little longer, and I think we’ve nailed it.” Demo time! “We’ve got a great UI for it, I think you’ll like it.”
That is awesome, and very useful looking at the screenies on gdgd and engadget. Yay for multitasking!
Anyone want to buy my book?

oooo folders!! yay for organization at last! :D
Is also on Waterstones website, looks interesting
i never knew you were an author Steven ;)
I can't believe someone with my name wrote a religious book. Not a subject I would ever write about
Neither could I
Totally useful, but I do like swiping from page to page ;)
Least I can sort out my bajillion games now
hmmm...
.....is a fantastic work written by Steven C. Roy. An associate professor of pastoral theology, Dr. Roy teaches at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois.
how do you have enough space for so many games :( i'm quickly running out of space due... i think i need to delete some podcasts... or at least not sync them all
I'm dubious too Jon,
I mean, fantastic? Really? ;)
I did say last night I was Multi-tasking. Clearly I was doing more than I realised
;) He's been fooling us! all this time and we never knew :P
For an american he has perfected the Scottish accent very well
Also, this does mean that at some point in the last 24 hours Dr Roy has been googling himself ;)
yay for ibooks being on the iphone/ipod touch... tbh i would have been surprised if they hadn't brought it onto the iphone, but it's nice to know i'll be able to use it too.
Lots of us over there. 25% of the people who signed the declaration of independence were Scottish and it was based on the Declaration of Arbroath of 1320
I kept hearing about Google alerts over the past week having never heard of them before and eventually decided to see how they worked. Having limited imagination I used my name.
Oooooooooooh!!! Now that is cool. A proper gaming network.
ah yes, i have it for The Feeder Series
Uh oh, universal achievements. Thank god this is coming out after my dissertation.
This ad network is Apple kicking Google where it hurts...
evening all :)
Not really. Google WANTS them to do an ad network so the FTC won't get in the way of Google buying the mobile ad company they're trying to buy right now.
:D
evening Alex :)
Hiya Alex. They're also kicking gaming networks like Plus+ and OpenFeint who try and implement their networks into games but I'd much prefer a universal gaming network amongst all games anyways.
Well that's true... But Steve said people don't search on the iPhone they use apps...
Grrr... The Apple Dev site has gone down!
I think that's Steve drinking too much of his own kool aid.
But it should be up to the developer which ad service to use (I'm guessing)
All this ad stuff is all done in HTML5 too. Silly flash.
I love the Toy Story aliens - ooooh ;)
or maybe not, as I read through the live blog I'm watching (was a bit behind)
Blimey at the iAd stuff...
Finally! Multitasking on the iPhone!
Also, OS 4 will give you folders to organise your apps as well.
But only in a few circumstances!
Only for 3rd party apps, I know :P
Ooh and social gaming as well. So kind of like XBOX Live for the iPhone.
Pretty much, I'm well excited for that. Achievements are going to sap my time just like they do on the Xbox :(
I am actually a little mindblown by this advert system
This will all be interesting tomorrow after the Jobs reality distortion field wears off.
i'm not sure i totally understand it... it's an advert you can interact with?..
It seems like rather than it be simply something that links to the adverts website, it'll be a fully fledged mini-app thing that works as an advert whilst you interact with it.
Multitasking wont work on 2nd gen ipod touch? hmph.
aaaaannnnnddd.... my ipod wont support multitasking.. my poor ipod.
I think if it's as easy as he says it is then most people won't develop their own ad network
They don't want it too. They want you to buy a new one.
It won't work on the 3G either?
Nope.
Evening all. I am not quite here yet as I'm going to have a shower then get some food, just a quick catchie uppie.. :)
Boo!
hmm... not sure that kinda thing hugely interests me, am happy to be proved wrong though.
I forgot to add my reply :)
Excellent, thanks Kathi. After you said there were only a few left I sort of thought they wouldn't be together. Just glad we got 'em.
the only thing I want to do with my ads is skip or ignore them.
That's actually well rubbish about the 3G/2nd gen thing. Stupid apple. *strops*
these apple people need to stop making irresistible products...i need to win the lottery so i can buy my macbook and iPad..
It's things like this that make me want the HTC Desire even more.
hehehe don't be upset it's only a few things we don't get...plus it's not like we, as ipod touch users, could make full use of the multitasking all the time..like with the internet i mean. Plus it's not like the ipod touch is rubbish atm ;) plus we still get folders etc.
The 3GS is the iPhone standard now... but in a few months it will be the iPhone HD... So you will be 2 behind on the 3G. It really doesn't have the memory for multitasking is the problem... The 3G has 128Mb of RAM and the 3GS has 256... Now while that seems like double the operating system takes up the same amount on both around 70Mb... So the 3G only has 58Mb of RAM to play with whereas the 3GS has 178Mb. The ram is important for all this multitasking. And the 3GS has more than 3 times as much free.
Sorry - iPhone HD?
I dunno, I find it very annoying sometimes not having multitasking on my ipod touch. It's something I've really wanted on it, and when it finally comes, it's out of reach :(
The old models just don't have the specs for it. There is no way they could do it.
That's the rumoured 4th Gen model. Double the resolution and the new kind of LCDs a la the iPad.
but... it's not the most up to date model?
If it doesn't have an AMOLED screen, better camera with flash and Flash compatibility, not for me, thanks.
isn't the battery life on that not very good though? or am i thinking of a different phone?
that's funny.
Jailbroken iPhones can multitask.
Also, ALL iPhones can multitask, they do it all the time. It's just that apple wants to control it.
Apple will definitely never have flash compatability on any handheld device
That's just been brought up now actually in the live feed
11:13AM - Q: Any change in Apple position on Flash and Java?
Steve: No.
Flash is a really bad idea on a portable device and will be dead within 5 years.
And OLED is not going to happen I don't think. The iPad screen is actually very nice.
My iPhone battery only lasts at least a day if I'm lucky. I find I have to charge mine every day. To be fair, anything's better when it comes to battery life.
If they give you everything on your existing device, what incentive is there for you to spend more money with them? They need you to want the new features and buy the latest device, like any business
Businesses suck. :P
Not properly. Not in a sensible way though.
well... we actually have no idea about the camera or anything do we? not really, they are only rumours... at some point apple are going to have to update their camera to a 5mp+... i have seen nothing to suggest why that can't be this summer..
If I'm lucky and I use all the battery saving techniques, I can get about 2 days max and that's it.
The rumours suggest the new phone will shoot HD video so the camera will be beefed up considerably if that's the case.
that's a reason why i don't want a smartphone, other than the fact that sometimes its good to be forced to be away from the internet. I don't want a phone that can do everything if at the end of a busy day out i can't do the one thing i ultimately need it to do... ring home.
The battery life is pretty poor. And now with multiple exchange accounts it will be even worse.
If you've seen when they opened up the iPad it looks like a giant battery with a few other bits inside.
I have an HTC Hero and find if I'm on Twitter & Doohickey all day (like yesterday when I was out all day) I need to charge the battery. I think it's an issue for all smartphones.
yay :)
At least with the HTCs and such you can actually change the battery if necessary.
i would argue that you shouldn't need to carry a spare battery around with you all day.. but i'm an odd person who doesn't like the idea of everything being on one device :)
The thing is, I think, that Apple is a pigheaded company and I love it for that and am annoyed by it too. They don't do things until they are ready and they decided on things and won't be shifted. In their opinion you shouldn't need a battery... And while this model might not have the battery life you want they won't compromise because in the end they will be right and your mobile phone won't run out of battery.
Well no I didn't mean it like that. I guess you'd only need it if you were, say, going to be away from a plug socket for a lengthy period of time.
Still, we had 2 come into the Orange shop yesterday and my mid afternoon, both had been sold. Seriously, I fell in love with it as soon as I held it. Damn my 24 month contract with O2! :P
i would argue that you shouldn't need to carry a spare battery around with you all day.. but i'm an odd person who doesn't like the idea of everything being on one device :) {Comment #1072}
Somehow none of this is helping to convince me away from my (HP) iPaq...
by*
Ok, I'm over the multitasking thing now, I just want OS 4.0 :)
yay! :)
Assume this is the Desire. I'm hoping to upgrade to it when my current contract expires later this year. Would be grateful for any feedback if you hear of problems or if all reaction is good.
Although if it means I can't have the game center than there shall be some serious fist shaking! That'll show 'em.
true, i see your point, you've got to buy something you like, otherwise what's the point :)
hehehe well you could always buy an iphone :P
#ifmoneygrewontrees ;)
hehehe well you could always buy an iphone :P {Comment #1082}
Or an iPaq...
I'll be getting rid of my iPhone 3g as soon as the nexus one comes out on Verizon.
Well we're getting it in black as well as the standard colour on Orange. But the specs are good and I haven't heard any major problems with it, so in my opinion it's all good! :P
Evening guys, just popping by before we all head out for dinner... again! 2nd time in 2 days. This time it's a curry house for my mother's birthday.
Have we all had a reasonably good day? I saw Alex's video - big LOL's from me.
Have we all had a reasonably good day? {Comment #1086}
Yes I have. Currently putting the finishing touches onto the Le Mans Series GT Drivers/Teams Primer. I've only got the LMP2 lot left to go which is just as well since practise starts tomorrow...
Alia what model ipaq do you have?
Alia what model ipaq do you have? {Comment #1088}
I have a hw6915. Three years old and the only problem I've had with it is the headphone port packed up a couple of weeks ago (about £15 to fix if I can be bothered to purchase and replace it myself).
When i have enough money i need an iPad...
http://photofocus.com/2010/04/08/the-ipad-offers-new-markets-for-photographers/
is the link i meant to include...
Star Wars the sitcom anyone?
I am sure they meant to do Cool Runnings and mixed them up. So easy to do that.
http://uk.tv.yahoo.com/blog/article/415394/
Right, time for dinner. Shall reconvene laters.
Also, big Sidepodstat coming up: this Daily thread will eventually be the most commented thread on Sidepodcast!
I wouldn't bet on that just yet
I wish I had never started reading up on earthquakes. I alway thought there were 10-12 minor earthquakes a week around the world but it seems I couldn't have been more wrong. In the past week there have been 1201. Last night the weekly total was only 1080 so there have been at least 120 earthquakes since then.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/
that's... insane....
Blimey, someone isn't liking the Earth at the moment.
Hey folks.
People living in the bottom corner of this map are insane. Look how many earthquakes they have had in a week
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Maps/US10/32.42.-125.-115.php
At least the space rock they found a couple of days ago missed us
but, how many of those can they feel though? are they really mini ones?
The big yellow one was a 7.7 which is big. The biggest blue square inside the yellow one was 5.3 which would definitely get your attention happened a couple of hours ago. Apparently 4 will definitely be felt.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richter_magnitude_scale
I knew there was a good reason why I liked living in Britain.
Talking of space rocks I read this last night. NASA'a WISE mission which views space in infrared is discovering dozens of new asteroids every week. The main reason they have remained undiscovered until now is that they are dark in colour. So all the space rock stuff we have known until now only covers bright shiny space rocks and doesn't include the sneaky dark ones.
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/wise-discovers-dark-asteroids-100326.html
Even Norway has had a couple this week. Who knew there were quakes in Norway
Home from work. Managed to postpone this morning's packing panic but I think it's beginning to set in now....
Panic packing?? Pick a case/backpack/whatever then chuck a mix of clothes in until it is full. Packing over.
Right, Jon's guide to packing.
What do you need?
To be fair, I might be done.... It's just that I've forgotton loads of things like my phone charger.... Stuff like that.
Hey Alison! how many days are you going for?
I also have packed far too much stuff but that was always going to happen really :D
oooh phone chargers, im the worst at remembering them
9
I remember to take them. I can guarantee I'll leave it down there and have to buy a new one. I must own about 5 by now....
You only need a small case for that then
staying in londres or does nick still have his house?
Errr yeah about that....
It's his daddies house. We're staying there yeah.
ah ok, i 'ssumed it were 'is
ah okay, so it's not too bad... packing loads and loads for 9 days is much better than packing loads and loads for just 4 or something like that ;)
His dad lives in Australia so it doesn't get a lot of use!
ah ok, thats cool
makes more sense then going back up norf which is what i assumed you were going to do
Yeah I'm at home at the moment. It's all a little bit awkward.
I dunno, I took a large one to Spain for 6 days
My hero :D
heheh :)
I'm gonna have a shower. I'll review the case after that.....
when i went to Spain for 2 weeks i took waaaay too much apparently... i thought it was just the right amount, but never mind.
You sound like a lawyer
haha.
Nick-ity-nick-nick is at Dubai airport!
#ExcuseMe!
hehe hi Nick
#definitelyisntherenopenotonebit
I am sat in the most ridiculous airport terminal... its like the old one but 5 times bigger, which was 5 times bigger than the one they had before that..
Tilke has designed an airport terminal?
It has plenty of straights... Half of it is in a tunnel under the planes... I wouldnt be suprised
ahhh... so lots of things to keep you busy then?
I wish he would design airports. At least the Indian track looks a little better than his recent efforts
Wikipedia says this is the wolds largest building by floor space: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubai_International_Airport
I am sat facing a wall though as i have found a power point that i probably shouldnt have!
Looks a lot like a shopping center.
wow! that's an airport terminal
It has a lot of shops!
there should have been a question mark there...
:D
I would take a pic, but wikipedia has one taken right next to where i am... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Aeroport_de_dubai_terminal_3_aile.jpg
that is a NICE airport
That floor looks shiny enough for Ron Dennis
I have been stuck in worse airports for 5 hours!
Verona?
Bombay
6 hours in Copenhagen and 9 in Geneva were worse
Thats a type of potatoes? You saying its an airport too?!
we arrived at the airport for our trip to Spain 7 hours early as we kinda got the time wrong... we got very bored in Gatwick so to be stuck in that terminal would have been a godsend :)
It has free wifi!
People your age might call it mumbai. I was there for 8 hours between flights.
It was the worst airport i have waited in, but watching the people was amazingly entertaining
Least you had entertainment, 8 hour delay at Vernoa, in an airport where it is a mad scrum for security, which was one lane. About three shops and when the plane was delayed all the shops were shut and there was nothing to do but wait. And I'm going back this year.
they should have free wifi everywhere... it's cruelty if not
The weirdest terminal i have been in was in bulgaria. It was an old soviet era military hanger which had been converted.
I will look for details
I spent 6 hours in Copenhagen waiting while I could see the plane I was going to get on sat outside the window. The crew were stuck in Munich.
I've been to Nice airport and it doesn't look like that
hehe people watching is kinda fun... i was sitting in the train on the way home yesterday evening and a guy with a very very posh accent was on the phone talking about f1... he went to Bahrain and said it was as boring as it was on the TV just with the added bonus of being deafened and the 'horrible smell of rubber'... he didn't sound like he enjoyed it much.
That is one of the big problems with F1. People who would love to go to races can't afford to while people like that get to go and don't appreciate it.
If he doesnt like the sound of the cars or the smell of the track, it seems an awful long way to go. Having said that, i would happily go to the paddock club if they had it for other sports i did not care for!
If they had a weight limit on buses, I think I'd have to remove half the contents of my case.... What should I do about shoes?
I think they do have one, but they wont actually weigh it
Nat Express?
Put them in the case inside a carrier bag apart from one pair which you should wear
he was over there 'for business' and the tickets were cheap.... i nearly asked him if he listened to sidepodcast but i thought it was best not to :P
well... it depends what you are going to do while away? wear a comfy pair for traveling.. and then a pair to wear if you go out in the evening... shoes are complex things :)
oh you mean weight? never mind lol
Yeah I have packed a pair of acceptably cute flats. I will wear stamping about shoes. I'm sure it'll be fine. I dont have any hugely smart clothes....
Nooooo I didn't. I just mean Ive got waaaay too much stuff. Warm clothes take up a LOT of space though......
ah then you shouldn't need tooo many pairs of shoes :)
As an aside, I hate that airport. The bit I landed at had all these signposts that led you nowhere. The corridors they pointed to weren't finished. I must have been wandering for about half an hour. Plus everyone off the plane seemed to want to connect to another flight, noone wanted out the airport!
ahhhh okay. is it going to be cold next week then?
I have no idea. I have a bit of a cold already though. I don't want to make it any worse, its going away.
I wish I could be a more organised person!
ah...that makes sense, hopefully i wont be ill on monday to make your cold worse... :)
I thought you were meant to be the organised one?!
I wish I wasn't so indecisive. I've spent over an hour wondering what I want to do. Lots of choice.
Relatively speaking, I am :P
aha
@tomasscheckter to @danwheldon (IRL drivers):
http://tweetphoto.com/17643601 If u win this weekend I am buying them and you have to wear them to autograph session
I have been for a walk around the pond and bought some water.
Now feeling 7% more tranquil....
:)
So it wont be a surprise if he is leading and suddenly pulls over on the final corner?
And I'm back from the curry house, having had probably the best curry ever. Lamb laziz with a splash of brandy. When I saw the flames my face lit up.
:) :)
No pun intended. :D
What's a laziz?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_8605000/8605112.stm
- awwwwwww!!! i want one...
The quote on the menu was: "recommended served with brandy". It got flash fired about 6 feet from where I was!!!
The one I had was tomatoes, either lamb or chicken, and some very well combined spices, not hot but not mildly flavoured. Glad I had it with the brandy, it was sublime!
Sounds good!
Russell Howard's good news is on now :) - yay! :)
Hmm, that, or the Masters.
I'm not going to ask you lot because I see one show winning, easily.
there is no comparison! Russell is a legend :)
oh .. :D
Don't worry, I'm with you on this one :D
Does anyone play golf?
Is it hard? I have been told to take it up
Wow. I'm stunned.
i watched his thing last week, it was alright, some bits were funny
#radioshowruinedhimforme
#ipreferedjonrichardson
#golfrules
Nope, but I'm more than happy to critisce you
I used to play alot, got quite impatient though and was playing against guys who were playing off handicaps of 3 or 4 which can get quite demeaning after a while.
It's not 'hard' get a few lessons and you'll be able to hold a decent game together, then its just practice as to how good you are
but i saw the recording of last weeks... and it was awesome... Russell has an amazing personality, it's brilliant to watch him 'be all professional' on moment, and the next be chatting to members of the audience :)
#jonisalegend
it may have been, but i didnt enjoy the show that much, some things were quite funny but there were large parts i just didnt enjoy
#fact
#sameperson
Eurgh!
I looked for lessons, they seem to be quite expensive.
My new apartment building has a crazy golf course, so maybe i will practice there before moving onto the driving range :D
the driving range is always good, awesome for when your stressed too,
i live with two people who think the same...
fair enough.. :)
Hitting a bucket of balls at a driving range is great for getting stuff out of your system
There is also a big arcade here where you can use a pro simulator for next to nothing, people will cotton on soon but i might give it a go when i get back
Your mum and dad think im a legend?
AWESOME
I also have a balcony overlooking the sea, but there is a highway inbetween #badIdea
i used to... in fact i used to play alot... then i 'woke up' and realised i could do more exciting things in a day... like play tennis. Then again i still walk round the golf course with my parents when they play.
What floor and how far to the sea?
I try to.. Its harder than it looks but it is a good excuse to get some exercise and when you hit a good one it makes you want to come back for more :)
I need to get fit and healthy.... golf seems a good option,
especialy if you get a cart to drive round in, and a guy to carry the bats :P
but totally different to actually playing golf, you have to have alot of patience. I'm way too competitive, and i was kinda rubbish so it was a bad mix.
they say its the 13th floor, its really the 17th.
Sea is just under 1K away
And end up in the bar afterwards
You can't hit it that far.
Nobody can hit it that far
#goonnnn
What time is your flight Nick? Soon?
I never got as far as playing golf
One of the courses has several bars dotted around the fairways
#civilized
Yes, there are people queing up for the gate.
Flight is in just over an hour
You need to get a lot closer or an awful lot higher if you are going to hit the sea
I shall sneak though
You are not competitive. You told me that
hmmmm yes... getting out and about is good :) specially in the sun :)
Tennis?? Prefer golf..
bats :)
me too, much less energetic, much more relaxed
yeah.. sorry, not competitive...
Some of us like to actually exercise rather than pretend.... :P
You need bats to play golf
oi! i do do actual exercise, i just used to like to play golf too! may be going for a round tomorrow actually.
i say a round, its really half a round
Last time I played golf we were doing pitch and put and I lost my ball.....
Exactly. Thats the same reasoning why I play football (in goal)
Tennis is awesome! (where is Amy?..) it's much more fun, lots of running around and things :)
:D
pitch and put is okay.. as is crazy golf... mainly cause it doesn't last for hours and hours.
yeah but you have to either be a) really good or b) playing against someone equally rubbish otherwise they just smack it and you have no chance of running to get it
Unless you push yourself..
Yeah but I think it's pushing it to call it either sport or exercise.
You don't go anywhere
Amy only likes it because she gets to wear purple
I have a bias against tennis because I was useless at it at school :)
friendly tennis is awesome :) i only ever play against equally rubbish people :D hehe
you don't with golf either tbh :P
Its a bit like F1, you go around a course and you finish where you started.
Golf Bats!
Sport; a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
Exercise; Exercise is physical activity that is planned, structured, and repetitive for the purpose of conditioning any part of the body
QED
it just takes 4 hours to do a lap
You get to go up hills and round corners. Legard would love it.
The dictionary is not God, it changes you know.....
Psshhh. At this time, right now, I am right.
You must accept this :P
4 hours of legard?!?!?!?! i couldnt cope
Jon is always right, he is, after all, a legend.
FACT
Really?
I covered that in my book
http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Much-Does-Foreknow-Comprehensive/dp/0830827595/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1270763852&sr=1-2
Im staring to enjoy listening, simply because even if i have seen the race before, i have no idea what he will say next!
:D :D :D
:D haha
:)
you're getting very good at plugging your book Steven, almost Alex-esque. :)
:D
You need a C!
Professor Giggles does a plugging module at author school
Added to http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Things+MrC+and+Christine+need+to+know
You reminded me I'd forgotton my crocodile :) Crisis averted.
:D
:D
I have no doubt that you pack more for 9 days in London than I will for 5 weeks all over Europe and Singapore.
its funny because its true :)
That's because you need loads of space for your planning folders
also true
Ah the folders are staying at home! I do have a page with a list of what to pack though.
:(
I just hate that feeling where you want something you've left at home
Is the list on the list? ;)
What have you left?
Dont worry, we can find a replacement! :)
Nothing yet.... Im still at home
You'll bring a travel folder with printouts of booking confirmations though..
Go through everything a zillion times, then ask us for mundane things you may have forgotten
How can you leave anything behind if you haven't left the house?
Bus ticket
Kitchen sink
I haven't!! I just said I hate the feeling. Doesn't mean I have that feeling now.... :D
as long as you have cloths, makeup, money, electrical items and things to keep you busy on the couch... surely that's all you need?
cleaning cloths are a necessity, i want the place spotless!
#thankslou
Things to keep her busy on the couch?
Noo confirmations will not be in a folder, that is wasted space and weight! I travel super light.
ah.. multiple #spellingfails ... i'm tired and ill :( sorry.
Really? thats not a clever idea. What happens if you get somewhere and they say you aren't booked here. The you cant go "aha! look! i am amy, queen of all organisedness!"
i can't spell at the best of times... :( i need more sleep. sorry. i meant coach/ bus
And quoting the wrong comment. You have no luck just now.
This from a man who doesn't actually own a cloth and used one of his own t-shirts to mop up a spillage?
You must be in for it now!
it's bad times :(
Surely all that stuff should be stored electronically rather than carrying acres of paper
Hehehe, i have to board, Bye!
I realised that afterwards
it should be, but its always good to carry a back up
Have a good flight Nick.
See you on the other side xx
They'll forget or mislay your booking. That's what they do. #superscaredofthis
see ya!
Bye Nick! Don't run across bridges!
Have a good one
Or you'll get shot?
bah?
Even all
Why was Nick at the airport for 5hrs?
*Evening
[obviously]
Even to you Bassano
He was Super organised?
#hahahaha
To cut a long story short, he was kicked out of his apartment.....
evening
Evening
I saw this and thought "thats a nice picture"
but then they went and ruined it.
http://www.clubmsv.com/media/21561/brands hatch.jpg
I had all my confirmations backed up as PDF's on my phone and on Dropbox
Who by?
:)
Hey Bassano
Here
Ok then
Does he have anywhere to live when he returns?
Landlord. It's nothing bad. I have to go now too. Byeeee
byee!
You can't leave us like that?
Bye Alison.
Byeeee. Have a good sleep/work/journey
He's moving i think, and that was just the end of his tenancy
Byeeee
by covering up someone's number plate?
See ya Alison
which is fine, but its awfully done. someone did that in paint
Surely there's software that can do that
Oils & acrylics just get messy
ha
ha
ha
hmmm
Have a not too uncomfortable bus trip thing
i see what you mean, could have just been done badly in photoshop :P
:D
seeing as i'm a little bit low today and need cheering up, is there any motorsport on this weekend?
MotoGP
Opening race, Qatar I think
There is bound to be some NASCAR on.
wooooooooo
oh.
Le Mans Series at Paul Ricard. Moto GP
i don't like watching nascar... :(
8ish sunday i think, or saturday. bbc3
someone on my course has been moaning about it because its not on a proper channel, it makes no difference though :s
Yep. I like MotoGP but they have a depleted field I think... was just about to read the Autosport.com previews. Qatar is a boring race though.
have you ever watched a moto gp race before?
You could also look at Pat's lovely blog:
http://toomuchracing.com/
Which has a whole host of upcoming races.
oh i forgot about the Le Mans race...
It must be online, no?
its in the dark though! thats good
yep.
Ta :-D
I just went there to have a look too
IndyCar is on
on hte bbc website. she moans alot for someone who never talks
whats the the "oh" ?
tvcatchup
No it isn't.
Pfft
No, no. Racing! ;)
i haven't checked my feed reader in a while... ah #fail....again.
#bias
Oh my thing is on the sidebar anyway. After getting very confused on Sunday I've thought about a blog post showing the start times of everything, not sure if that'll work or not, may try it tomorrow.
i like motogp.. don't get me wrong, but i just prefer other motorsport. I was determined to check it out last year cause everyone kept saying how good it was and it just didn't appeal, i get waaaay too concerned when they lean over in the corners and when drivers fall off.
They never get really hurt, you should see the airbags they have started to put in their leathers, its safe, and hilarious!
Club Bike racing dosent really appeal as much as car racing (as in being there), but ill watch it if its on
I have loads of iPhone OS 4.0 to catch up on
Was looking at some of it on twitter earlier
I went to a club bike meeting once and had to leave because I was a nervous wreck. I was in a constant state of panic. This was around the same time as I was racing myself. Watching a bike race was a million times worse than me losing the car at 100mph
it's the same thing i have if i watch a crash in f1... i kinda hate it. i immediately worry about the drivers/riders.. but as Lukeh always says i worry too much sometimes.
You misunderstand me, I will have the confirmations with me, I just wont have a folder to put them in. They are also all on my kindle too :D
Bike people are a special breed of crazy. ITV4's coverage of the Isle of Man TT last year was fantastic, the onboards and helicam shots made them look suicidal.
Totally but its rare that people get seriously hurt in circuit racing, even at bike events.
I don't worry when f1 drivers have crashes, 99.9% of the time they get out and are absolutely fine.
Are you worrying about worrying now?
Isle of Man races are awesome and insane. People go on about how it is impossible to make the Nurburgring safe because it is 14 miles long. The TT course is 36 miles.
i know... doesn't stop me worrying though. lol
no. haha
Its always the small accidents. The big accidents are fine and you see them get out nearly all of the time. But the likes of Timo's accident (still dont believe you Toyota)
TT course is very different because of the kerbs and spectators, when people die every year you kinda have to wonder whether its worth it...
#sidepodspace
If anyone is bored early tomorrow morning the first spacewalk of the current space shuttle mission starts at 5:41am and last 6 and a half hours.
That's a long time to be walking with no Greggs around
Most years there are probably more spectators who die than riders because on the Monday(?) anyone in/on anything can lap the track so you get all these loonies who haven't slept in three days and have been drinking a lot decide to show their mates that they could be a racer and one of them always massively overestimates their ability
Even still, its seriously dangerous for the riders too.
Just wait till they go back to the moon. I am thinking of applying for Greggs franchise there. Imagine what you could make with a captive audience and no opposition for quarter of a million miles
It's dangerous all round. I couldn't believe it the first time I saw it.
Waiting for bus. I can now spend the next half hour worrying it isn't coming...
/Have you got a cushion or a rolled up jumper?
at least i'm not the only one that worries about things like this
They should put a GPS in it so you can track it on the net
clearly. Why dnt they do that?
at our bus stops they have an electronic sign that tells you how long until it arrives
wow! we don't have that at ours... we just have to stand there and hope the bus comes... most of the time it's very late :(
But for inter city buses...
I remember taking a bus once :-)
( public transport not good where I live)
Have you not noticed those in London Lou?
It's Britain, it'll be fine. After a nearly 3 hour wait in Porto airport for a the scheduled bus to Spain, it arrived 30 minutes late.. nobody around to say that..
the only national express bus that comes near me stops at the bus station which has a big board of times
nope. i don't think i've ever travelled by bus in London. I tend to walk or get on the tube...
Why isn't mcdonalds wifi faster? I am trying to download a podcast!
Oh :D happy birthday to me-eeeee
(and Jacques)
yaaaaaaaaaay happppppy birthday paaaaaaaaul :D
Happy Birthday Paul!!!
Happy birthday fella
Happy Birthday Paul and Jacques
Hehe :D
thanks
Wooo, happy birthday mate!!! (and Jaques)
Happy birthday Paul :)
Only a cool 470km drive home today, and all on sealed road. Yay
Ok so i may have started a blog yesterday...oops.
http://icantrun.wordpress.com/
Have a read.
I am stupid/insane.
Enjoy!
is this a competition? ;-) or are you all trying to fill up wordpress?
I think as Christine hasn't started a new blog this week [that we know of] Alex & Jon are doing their best to fill the gap :)
You are trying to beat Haile Gebreselasse at distance running? Um. Good luck :)
World records??
Ambitious. I like it.
Christine and Mr C have an ipad. That must be worth a blog
They have the use of one
They don't own one, yet
I haven't started a new blog in ages. I wonder if...
A blog to cover the new blogs that are popping up?
Good on ya for setting yourself a challenge and the 3km you did is far more than I can acheive.. a record is something else mind
I can still see Christine wanting an ipad only site to discuss what they do with it and what they think of it
A blog to list all the blogs by people on sidepodcast
Oh they'll have one, probably within a month
Isn't that a wiki page already?
Jon!!
This is fantastic. I hope you inspire me to run again.
It's probably best you do t know what is ahead. Let's just say the best I ever did was 10k in 35 mins, during a world duathlon championship.
Woooooo. :-)
For all of them?
Bus is here on time. It's packed though!
Yes Yes I Know. Lets just say I don't do things half heartedly.
You did Duathlon? Thats awesome! I started training for triathlon but decided that i didnt want to do the running bit...so this is me making me do hte running bit....
Well it's there, so that's one less thing to worry about ;)
See, No need to panic about packing
My wp.com dashboard has 5 at the moment
haha very good
I have found a space to sleep next to a small child. They let me lean on th window tho....
yes, duathlon was the winter training for triathlon.
I hate running, but there you go
Don't lose the kid ;)
Me too! I kinda regret not choosing to do the cycling record now...
Seems
"easier"
yikes, don't get too close
not sure you have the numbers right for that. I think Chris Boardman did quite a handy hour record on the Lotus bike
yeah thats what put me off. the cycling governing body did a clever thing though and froze development on hour bikes then and there because they could see it was going to become about money and how hi-tech your bike was rather than out and out speed.
running is less distance, and i can do it on a treadmill when its raining. cycling is rubbish on a gym bike.
You can run on a treadmill without going mad?
I can run for 5-10ish minutes flatout on a treadmill before dying, i never reach bordem. I find that ipods and the the tv's on the wall with endless repeats of top gear help
Happy birthday Paul!
Right, time to hit the road. Podcasts did not download :-(
Ooo thanks Amy :-)
boo for mcdonalds. safe drive!
Relatively early night for me, last day of seven earlies and I'm knackered
Here's to my four day weekend
See ya peeps
adios!
I like the sounds of those weekends! Have a nice sleep. And see ya Paul.
wow! how is it nearly 1am?? i need to sleep, night all! xx
And night lou
aaand I'm off too. Feeling relatively awake but I know if I stay up I'm in danger of oversleeping (only slightly though) and run around like a headless chicken in the morning. :)
Night all.
Night
And night to Pat as well.
Night
Don't want to repeat myself but night
Night whoever is going!
Evening all
Hey Jim. How are you doing?
Not bad. My Fernando Alonso Puma's arrived. They're as ugly as I thought they'd be... It looks like I'm wearing footballs on my feet.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2756/4503547863_775f03f42f_o.jpg
Er, American footballs that is.
I'd imagine that to be much more uncomfortable then.
LOL! I'm not sure yet, these shoes are rather tight too. Shoes say size 13, but I'm questioning this already. My Raikkonen Puma's are size 13 and fit much better. Must be the Scandinavian construction advice.
I can't sleep :(
Why?
Are you wearing ugly Fernando Alonso shoes that hurt your feet too? They're keeping me up right now.
I'm on an overnight bus. I jus got to sleep when we pulled into services and the man started making announcements and turned on all the lights
Ah, sounds like fun!
You make travelling by bus sound so appealing
Why are you trying to sleep wearing alonso's shoes?
LOL! I'm not. It's only 10:30 here in the states.
We're late moving on again. I'm properly sleepy this time, it's a more normal bedtime. I hope i have more luck :)
My sidepodcast decals came in this week, but the sucked so I was up late working on a new one. I'm much more pleased with this one and it'll look great on my race car =)
When are you due to arrive wherever it is you are going?
First time one of those has been on a real car. A couple of the guys who do sim racers have decals on their sim cars
The delay is probably caused by the extra weight of your luggage. Bus needs more petrol to compensate.
I was hoping to have it on the car this weekend, I'll be at a massive event on Sunday. Next week it is I guess.
Buses don't use petrol. They use diesel. If it has petrol in it then you are going nowhere
10:42 pm, nothing to do tomorrow, I think I may have a pint or two.
I'm due into victoria at 7
I was going to write fuel then changed my mind. Should have stuck with it.
Time for you to get a little sleep then
Sounds like a plan. I was going to get up early to watch the first spacewalk of the shuttle mission but since it starts in an hour and a half and I haven't been to bed yet it is unlikely I will be up on time.
Whe you do something like that there is always a pedant around to point it out
Thats ok now I can say I learned something today. I had never stopped to think about what makes buses move before.
It's simple. Anything bigger than a car or small van runs on diesel. So buses, trucks, tractors, trains(if they are not electric or steam) all run on diesel
It is way past my bedtime so I am ging to try and get some sleep. See you lot tomorrow which is today now.
Nice SR
lol, so I'm watching a replay of the red button forum after sepang and Brundle had the quote of the day with, "I'm not sure what's spanish for 'FIX THAT GUYS', but I would imagine he was saying that"
Woooooo! M25! Traffic is very heavy though :(
I have made it onto the train. Success! :D
I am outside my house. My keys are inside my house. Something is wrong with this scenario.
How did you manage that?
I am at baggage claim :D
Woohoo although hopefully you're not at Yas...
I must not have put them back in my bag last night for some reason. I got into our "secure" complex because the door to the basement carpark was open but I cant get over my fence into my courtyard or in my front door. I would be happy in my courtyard until someone else gets home, I could sit at my table! Instead I am sitting on the ground with my kindle, hoping my flatmate answers my text asking if she is coming home soon.
And now its started raining! Come on flatmates, reply!
Now I am outside the bank, trying to get my flatmates keys. The bank is closed so I cant get in and I dont have her work phone number. I hope she got my email announcing my arrival :)
Hello. I am on tenterhooks waiting for the conclusion of these stories.
Did Amy get home?
Did Alison meet Nick?
I got home! ..
Good :)
First practise for Le Mans Series starts in 2 minutes and the official site still hasn't got the Live Timing up. This lot are starting to make FOM look efficient...
This is the ACO, this is normal :)
Are Nick and Alison in the same country yet?
Morning guys!
This is the ACO, this is normal :)
Ah, OK. I just feel completely left in the dark because Radio Le Mans has, for reasons best known to itself, decided to schedule a programme about paint coatings over the start of the time slot for first practise. So basically I'm waiting here with absolutely no idea of what's going on.
According to this it doesn't start for another hour. 12.40 CET is 11.40 here.
According to this it doesn't start for another hour. 12.40 CET is 11.40 here.
You know what? That would explain a great deal. Oops...
I commend your eagerness in being there early :)
I commend your eagerness in being there early :) {Comment #1507}
Well, I figure if I'm going to learn about how Fisi's new series works, it would be a good idea to see as much of LMS as possible. Who knows - I might get as enthusiastic about it as I am about F1!
Seems fair. I'm interested to see how he does especially with Jean Alesi sharing the car!
Not sure how much attention GT2 will get.. it is the 4th class but often has the best race among the classes..

I'm fairly sure it'll get more attention than GT1 this weekend, if only because GT1 has the grand total of one car. But yes, the prototypes could get a lot more attention.
GT1 is a brand new class though, its different from the old GT1 i believe, so it will grow...eventually..
Shame, I liked GT1..
Very different type of racing to F1 and it can take a while to get your head around it, strategies can take hours to play out, I quite like it.
GT1 is a brand new class though, its different from the old GT1 i believe, so it will grow...eventually.. {Comment #1511}
This is true, but until then GT2 stands a chance of getting good coverage :)
Was supposed to be but they made a hash of it so half the cars in FIA GT are modified old cars and I think that LMS entrant is too...
Yeah it is, what i mean was, GT1 isn't the corvette GT1 class that was there last year, it should be growing instead of falling. Give it a year or two and i think they'll be more cars out there
There's a GT1 World Championship too, which I'm looking forward to as well :P
When they come in the LMS i will be, but hour GT Races don't really do it for me
I'd watch it if it was on, but wouldnt purposely sit down to watch it like i might with a LMS race
I think it could be fun.
Also I think it's great that pretty much every major manufacturer has a GT3 car - Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, Jaguar, Ford, Chevy, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Aston Martin, Lotus, etc.
Tom Kristensen has apparently ruptured an Achilles tendon and isn't at Le Castellet because he might aggravate his ankle getting in and out of the car (it's reckoned that he could drive the car).
Le Mans first practise has started. If the Cs were here, I'd wonder whether a breakout thread was advisable.
Dont you love how they can race for 2 hours in heat putting 100kg through their legs to the pedals with all the g-forces, but its the getting out hte car that they are worried about!
it was the same with franck, i still have no idea how he raced so well with a broken leg!
Mansell's spun!
Ouch... and double ouch because it has screwed up a few TMR picks..
Maybe Sunday. Its a bit quiet anyway at the mo.
Is it too late to change?
Hey y'all.
oh no! me too, cut off still hasnt come so we can change it right?
Midnight tonight.
awesome
Anyone got live timing?
Anyone got live timing? {Comment #1529}
I have. The trick seems to be to load it just before the session starts.
ah, link? i shall try.
Direct live timing link:
OK, whose idea was it to put the pit lane exit in the overtaking spot in the first corner braking zone?
ah yes, you are right, the whole lms site is down too
ah yes, you are right, the whole lms site is down too {Comment #1534}
I didn't realise that was the case. Perhaps they have too much traffic (there's been mention of the increased media attention on LMS already this session?)
I think some people are going to have fun at the 'Ring... http://www.nuerburgring.de/fileadmin/webcam/webcam.jpg
Live timing is working again.
Ooh an SLS! Mercedes promo event perhaps?
I think #92 needs to get Rob Bell in that car.
I'm off to get lunch. Will try to return for the second practise.
Now there is a Porsche Turbo and an E-Type
*not here*
http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2010/4/10647.html
hehe a fun Q&A with JB.
*back to revision*
I wonder if they ever gave Heikki a prize for being top of the leaderboard in their quizzy thing last year.
ooo good point. maybe it was a golden plated ticket or something :P
heheh. I do have to give Jenson points for liking banoffee pie because no one here seems to know what it is and I looooove it.
banoffee pie is awesome! i haven't had it in ages though.
best.pie.ever
I don't understand why it doesn't exist in Australia. I always make a point of having it when I am at home.
it's not that hard to make... maybe you should make it for your flat mates ;)
I shall add it to the list of things for my mummy to make me when she arrives in 12 days ;)
:D ahh even better :)
ooh I just turned on my TV and heard Crofty! I appear to have just missed a Malaysian GP replay.
LMS FP1 times, Autosport aren't saying Kristensen is missing
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82787
i wish we had crofty on our GP replays :(
Dear oh dear. Abysmal Ferrari non-story on grandprix.com today. They've taken Domenicali's quote about Alonso's engine breakage and used it in the context of encompassing Sauber's retirements, too. Dishonest, lazy and dire...
it was just the press conference :D
oh.. that's alright then :)
oh dear :(
Afternoon all
@FakeMosley:
It's just occurred to Mistress Justine that loading a car with fuel contravenes the active aero regulations. Damn us and our rules.
But the Ferrari engine does appear to have a few issues
Yes. Just a few.
Also
@FakeSebVettel:
That bloody Aussie (Ron Walker) thinks we're lazy prima donnas! I for one, won't stand for it and I won't get out of bed till he apologises! :D
James Allen has decided slideshows with Darren Heath's pics are better than voiceover's about 'hand gestures'
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/04/malaysian-gp-slideshow/
Phew!
I made it a few times but it's difficult to get the right 'offee' here.
If you look in the shops for "toffee" then you may find it easier ;)
Afternoon all
There's a good canned version that my friend uses for Banoffee, I'll ask her tomorrow which one it is
right, i've finished with silly revision now, hiii all!
Hi Jon
Hi Lou
I'm editing and uploading, it's a slow process but Johnny Cash is helping :)
My revision cosists of reading a book about Motorsport sponsorship
degree revision = bliss ;)
ooo i love editing!!! but i have nothing to edit :( luckily i'm going to lydennhill tomorrow to make up for not going last week :)
grrrrr :( i wish history was that interesting.
The History of Lou or just history in general? :)
hahah both ;) but more so my alevel history course ;)
Slowly going here
ooo that has reminded me! how did you get so close to the cheetahs??? and why are they wearing leads? :)
I missed second practise and am now baffled as to why the LMS live timing claims there were no GT2 cars in it...
The running pic is from a viewing platform, they were chasing a 'mechanical hare' of some sort in a greyhound track way
The leash pic is when they were brought to the grounds where the accommodation were. Cheetahs were semi-tame by being fed regularly and were reared to accept human presence
Although is was a 10,ooo hectare site, it was a game reserve rather than a wild safari
http://twitpic.com/1ebg1r
wow! you've got some awesome pics so far :) can't wait to see the rest :)
awwwwww
Evening everyone,
In a(n another) DEB related document, the Minister for Digital Britain thinks IP address means 'intellectual property'... oh dear
http://www.mediaweek.co.uk/news/995688/Minister-Digital-Britain-blunders-embarrassing-IP-slip-up/
Hey Leigh
Are you joining us on Monday for drinks on the Strand?
should do - where's the strand?
Between Charing Cross and the Waterloo bridge
http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/81/813/Coal_Hole/Strand
sweet - the Barber IRL race is on Sunday evening, so I might still have my IndyCar hat on
:)
Though I should have said
Between Free Parking and Chance :)

Free parking?? London???
:o
Only in Monopoly
Afternoon folks
*crickets chirp* *tumbleweed rolls by*
Hi Jim
It's fairly quiet this evening so far
Heya. Boy this place is deserted huh? C&C take a break and it's a ghost town
hi jim
Heya Leigh
Dinner time maybe?
Anyone have any big friday plans? This is my first Friday in a while w/out a track day on Saturday, so I can finally go out and have some fun.
only plans i have is a stream of the indycar practice later on
Tomorrow I gotta call it an early night though. Massive event going on on Sunday.
I'm trying to rally some support for a pub visit though my liver would probably prefer I didn't.
Tis going to be a busy weekend
Get you some good Guinness =)
Naturally
Ah, brb in a bit. Time for qualifying in iRacing.
YES!!
http://www.retrotuckshopsweetsdirect.co.uk/
IRL practice is on Indycar.com right now - audio issues, but a good picture
Evening all.
This is going to be a bad race... I'm 2.4 seconds off from where I need to be. I'm going to get lapped.. alot...
Heya Lukeh.
evening Lukeh
haven't made the iRacing jump - i'm still on GP3 and rFactor
Evening :)
Yea, I'm doing the TDi Cup in iRacing right now. The car is dog slow so you have to carry a lot of speed. Pretty challenging.
evening lou
It's at a good track too, Lime Rock.
hi :)
IRL:
I must say, there's lots of talking that Barber will be really difficult to pass on, but it looks like a wonderful driver's circuit
Grid starts in 7 min... Lil nervous.
Note to self - when cargo lifts dont work, try and get companies to invest in stairlifts. If my back could speak, it would be screaming right now
Hi I have survived. Nick is busy warring with electrical appliances....
Hi Alison
hi alison
If you were ever planning on travelling national express, can I just recommend that you don't bother.... :D
rookie error
;)
Long winded coach trips, or coach trips at night are just awful. Went to barcelona on a coach. NEVER AGAIN. (Plus now I need a passport *looks at lou*)
i'm still amazed you don't have one! lol
I would have been fine if the driver hadn't seen fit to make an announcement 20 minutes after I fell asleep. Twice.
I didn't have my own passport until I was 17
I remember Visitor's Passports
Mine was around13 I think
Have you had Manual Handling training?
maybe it's cause i've always gone on day trips to france and things... but i've always had one, and assumed since he'd been to spain Lukeh would have had one too... apparently not. lol
Hello to all ye newcomers, btw
Yeah, I made sure my knees were bent when picking up heavy objects ;) I'm still knackered though, boo.
How did you manage that Lukeh?
If I could explain how it was done through the school, I would happily do so! But like I said to you, all I know is that we had to give them a passport type photo and details, andthey did it for us for international trips
Is there nothing he won't disagree with? :)
IRL:
...and both Romancini and Castroneves spin off at the same time at opposite ends of the circuit - how odd.
:D i just find it so odd cause every time i've been over seas with my school they've needed my passport. this is a new thing for me, and i'm totally confused as to how they were allowed to do it :)
IRL:
Weird - during Indycar practice, the pit crews don't wear protective gear when refuelling and changing tyres. Just team shirts and jackets... how odd.
'http://twitpic.com/1ec34p - Here I am scrubbed up about to walk thru those doors behind me to watch open heart surgery'
https://twitter.com/AussieGrit/status/11894044173
erm... wow..
Clearly Adrian newey has taken his car design too far
Nice comment:
One of Seb's dares, or new career path? ;-)
Hello all, have finally finished at work. Went in today to handover to new person. Officially unemployed on Tuesday, looking forward to celebrating at Sidepodmeetup on Monday :)
Hi Janna
you can enjoy the nice weekend now too
:)
Also, I often come to Doohickey through the "Comment in Realtime" (can't remember exact wording) link under the Daily on the Sidepodcast home page. "Join the Conversation" is still there but the other link has gone. Have checked on both PC and phone & neither have it. Is it just me?
Am looking forward to it
Hey janna :) I would love to join you all monday but Monday annoyingly is my only compulsory weekday at Uni, and at such an important time I can't skip it, boo. Hope you celebrate in style though :P
booo for uni ;) i'm sure bassano will help her celebrate :D
Sorry won't see you but uni is most important. It will enable you to stop working & have a break in 22 years time ;)
Nah, got the same as well. I blame the multi-daily thingy.
Will tweet Mr C for looking at after break
That is my forte
Good evening. 1 x big shop done. Now I rest. :)
Is it cos the Daily, is not the daily?
After this earlier, I looked for one in the shop. They didn't have one so I bought ice cream Mars bars instead.
and a cheesecake :)
hi pat
I love those
Hi Pat
You got proper food too, right? ;)
What's not proper about ice cream Mars Bars and cheesecake? It has all the food groups; chocolate, sugar, cheese ;)
Curry sauce & chicken, and pizza. That's proper food, right? :)
among other stuff..
That's better, the things you eat between cheesecake & Mars Bar Ice Creams
Thinking burritos tonight. And tomorrow 'cos I tend to make enough for two and there's only one of me.
IRL:
Viso has spun off with 1 minute left, essentially finishing the first practice session. Top 5 are Power, Briscoe, Wilson, Franchitti and Andretti. Sato is 10th
Looks like the Mansell collective were 4th in the second LMS practice, a place above Alain Prost's son.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82792
Fisichella and Alesi were only 10th in class.
Hehehe, aww poor Phil Tufnell.
He just about remembered that Brawn GP were Constructors World Champions on Question of Sport :)
hehehehe :D
Oh cool I may get a few points in the TMR game :D
I thought that was quite risky but it may pay off :)
Tiz very quiet everywhere.. everyone gone down the pub?
Some of us are here. But I'm tired. :)
It's a case of ignorance is bliss I'm afraid
Hi Lukeh, nearly finished the write-up?
Hey Jackie. Nah, stuck in for the night.
11,000 words done, 4,000 words to do. I reckon by next friday I'll have the write up aspect of it finished :)
Yay that's brilliant
The remaining bit is mostly a reflective/PDP section as well so the hard work has been sorted out I reckon. Still need to make sure it's of a good standard though
Don't think so
I'm trying to find people to go to the pub - it's proving hard :(
Isn't Alex already there with fourstar?
Part of me wishes I was but I just can't be bothered..
What's PDP?
Fourstar is in Dubai
Fourstar's in Dubai
I don't know what Alex is up to, quality time with Katherine possibly
I tweeted him earlier but didn't what to keep trying as he's out with us on Monday hopefully
Oh wow, was he there for the race?
personal development planner, basically looking back at uni and how
annoyingbeneficial it's been ;)The MotoGP? No idea..
No, work or leisure, I think
I saw fourstar tweet that Alex had an awful day and I thought I saw something about a pub and a glass of wine
LOL a few years from now you'll look back on it with rose tinted specs
Alex:
ooooh nice :) I am sitting outside with a glass of wine!
Not sure where though
Just watching a Michelin advert .. Virgin Racing need those tyres to save fuel
The French journalist Stephane Samson tweeted this earlier:
Just heard about Luc Besson being consulted for a better F1 coverage on TV, especially in the pits. Need to check this information.
I think it may be a trip to the offie and an evening with Aperture, Arthur Guinnesss and maybe Johnny Cash if he's not busy
Car chases and shootouts - and that's just qualifying
Excellent!
Sometimes just the chance to chill out and relax is good enough
Mr and MrsC getting some quality time I hope
Who is operating grandprix.com if Joe isn't? Stuart tweeted earlier saying he's no longer involved..
I thought he still had limited ties to the place.. but I have no idea who else runs it
I was enjoying editing & uploading my pics here earlier, I shall contine with some booze and music shortly
They look cool :)
Right, this Guinness won't buy itself
Back soon
bye Bassano
Have fun mate.
Am only going to the shops, I'll try though :)
You can still have a fun time at the shops.... somehow.
*laughs*
;)
Nick is making cooking pasta look very difficult :D
I'm going to split for a while too.
Got a few posts to write tonight and music to be listened to
:)
but you only need to put it in water right? how is he making that look difficult? even jenson says he can cook pasta...
Well initially he had a tiny pan then somehow he got it all stuck to the bottom. I had to leave the room before he burned himself I couldn't watch....
:D
I've decided that when my pay goes through later this month, I'm booking my driving test. I did a couple more lessons today, first ones in about a month or two and I did a mock driving test. Considering I haven't driven for that period of time, I still would have managed a pass. JUST. Scored 14 minors, about 6 of them were for untidyness in terms of gear changes and steering. Essentially I am rushing these things a little bit whilst driving. That's the racer's instinct for you :P
I can't really judge. Last time I cooked we ended up with burnt pizza.
ahhhh
Shopping is getting weird
My local Somerfield has been refreshed & rebranded intp a Co-operative Food
At the tills they have some monitors advertising offers and such
While my stuff was being scanned I noticed they are also carrying out mini surveys on these LCDs using the Chip & Pin machine to ansnwer the questions
"Do you think we need more research on the effects of pesticide on bees"
WTF?
I've seen them ask things like "was your cashier polite?" or other things to do with the store or their service... that's a new one on me..
No, salt, olive oil and presumably some sauce for it too
Still, it's really not difficult. Even I can do it
Evening all..
hey Steven, had a nice day?
Hi Steven
Put water in pan
Put a few drops of olive oil in pan so pasta doesn't stick
Boil water
Add pasta and wait a few minutes
Lose the water and eat the pasta.
What could go wrong?
Didn't add olive oil or butter then. If he can't make pasta should he not be banned from the kitchen?
Not so bad. You?
Boil water. Add spaghetti. Wait 10 minutes. Empty on to plate. Add pesto and mozzarella. Done.
i'm alright, totally sick of coughing all the time though.
Stop doing it then
i can't help it :(
Whilst listening to Jonsi's incredibly stunning album, I may have made this.

Oops. ;)
Sidepodcast - Owning 85% of wordpress blogs.
If people keep making new blogs everytime Christine and Mr C disappear for a few days they are going to keep doing it
Have all these new blogs been added to the list of things they need to know?
Nice :)
Is it National Blog Week?
:D
True story
Add salt to water to raise the boiling point and add to taste as desired
I cannot stop listening to it. You've no idea how excited it's made me for the gig.
:D
Hi Steven
I never add salt. Boiling is hot enough. Especially for Nick. He needs to lower the air pressure in the kitchen to reduce the boiling point so he does less damage to himself
i'm in a dilemma.. i can't wait for the gig... but then again i don't want it to come cause its the same day as my first alevel exam.. and that's a scary thought.
But what's your initial verdict on the new series?
One word: Awesome.
More than one word: Flippin' awesome.
This reminds me of uni when a flat mate came around in all seriousness looking for a thermometer. He was making boiled rice and needed to know when the water was boiling.
Sent him on his way to look for a barometer as well!

Remember 'The Beast' of a lens?

Well I'm (now not so) secretly in love with Amy Pond

I love people who stick rigidly to instructions without ever engaging their brain
yes...

She's mine.
Mario Kart time... shortly when my mate gets his backside in gear... back in a while :)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*lensenvy* .... bad times...
They want to use that to search for space rocks
Keith was really debating whether to take it
In the end he got some great star shots when we were out in the sticks with virtually zero light polution
I'll post some when he's edited his
He has an amazing wide angle, long exposure shot of the Milky Way
300mm lens with 2 doublers - effectively, a 1200mm lens
I was using an 18-55mm :(
:o!!!!!
I hope Alison doesn't look at Bing today or Nick is going to have to find ducks
On the other hand
ALISON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ducks
That was the first time I've loaded up Bing since it went online.
And the last! ;)
They want to drive traffic they need ducks. If they use baby pandas it would take the server down
wow! i want one!
No, probably one more time.
Guy from our wireless department is letting me borrow one of their Nexus One's to look at over the weekend. Gonna load Bing up on that just for the Meta-wackiness of it all.
Back folks,
What goes on?

Done. And to make it even more meta, I did a search for Bing on google so I didn't have to type in "bing.com"
*shocked*
So that's a Mac, ducks...
*gets pen*
Mandarin Ducks are gorgeous
Mandarina Duck is also good :)
Watch, she'll be wanting a panda soon. *hides*
I thought Lou wanted it as a pet. Not as dinner. Clearly I misunderstood
Or a duck that looks like a panda
We had a few panda related items in paperchase :)
a duck... not a Nick...
I want a crocoduck. http://www.freethoughtpedia.com/wiki/Crocoduck
sweet
:D
no...a Macbook, iPad, Ducks, a Kitten... Crumpler bag.... alot more money...
yuck.. i don't eat duck.. they are too cute..
Weekend in bath spa
Me, I just want a dairy milk.
oh yeah and a baby panda... not that i ask for much ;)
Mandarina Duck make bags, wallets and stuff
not bath spa... Bath.. (not if there is a difference..) i'd prefer a weekend at goodwood... i'm pleased you're taking notes though :P
IRL:
2nd Practice has just started. The chap who just topped IndyLights 2nd Practice is Niall Quinn - not the ex-Ireland football player unfortunately though.
A huge lens and a paddock pass
Here's a cool video about Lotus' link up with KV Racing in the IRL. It even features my good friend Clive Chapman from Classic Team Lotus :)
http://www.f1wolf.com/2010/04/the-other-lotus-racing-car-video.html
I wonder if Nick is reading this ;)
yep... add those to the list too :P
Do they have free wifi in casualty?
3G maybe, if he can browse with his good hamd
Pat's not doing so well with his food either:
just dripped a bit of my cider onto my burrito
Our thoughts are with Pat's burrito
Now i want a breakfast burrito!
I'm not even hungry, but they are just too yummy
i don't even know what a breakfast burrito is...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burrito
About half-way down
oh right...
You're doing it wrong, a MacBook is not an iPad stand
http://thedailywh.at/post/508842520/youre-doing-it-wrong-of-the-day-to-paraphrase
why would you?... i mean... what?...
I think the word you're looking for is stupidity
That is just WRONG. *weeps for wasting use of macbook*
Lukeh, did you see me tweet earlier... they are filming a 4th series of the IT crowd! :)
Yep, graham linehan was tweeting twitpics from production for a few weeks :) I can't wait!!! :D
you knew and didn't tell me? ;)
Lou:
For info, this is where the Cheetah couple pic was taken

#GivingAwaySecrets
awwww!!!
IRL:
2nd Practice just finished - the top 5 are Will Power, Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon and Marco Andretti.
Takuma Sato is 6th and ex-GP2 driver Mike Conway is 9th just ahead of Dario Franchitti
ehehehe i'm going to take some pics at a local SEMSEC race meet tomorrow, i'm very excited as i get to go outside again :)
By the way, this looks like a wonderful circuit - not a whole load of passing places, but it looks very tough to drive
Where is that happening?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2amoWpv0b8
Lydden Hill, never been there before so it's a totally new experience..
I know a lot of peopl like that track but I don't think I have ever watched an event on it
It will be good for you then to try and find somewhere different to shoot from. Make sure you don't get one of those awful outside diseases
I used to enjoy watching the races at the Airport in Cleveland, before and after the IRL/CART split.
i still have the last one.. so i'll be careful not to get another one too ;) The only times i've been out of the house this holiday (the grand total of about 5 days) it's been raining, or just general horrible weather, i'm praying tomorrow i may actually get to be out in the sunshine :)
Sunshine? What's that?
according to mum, it's good for you... apparently it might stop me looking paler than a victorian (her words not mine).
Yes, a very good track - I do think it's much better than the current airport circuit at Edmonton.
Did she not ban you from going outside? If so it is her fault
I believe it's a film, or some kind of weather thing. it is a good film though.
I assure you, people in Melbourne are not pale ;)
yep she did. to be fair to her i only just made it out of the house on wednesday. but i've managed to get lots of revision done, so i'm doing well in that aspect. worst thing will be when i go back to school and everyone will have come back from holiday with a tan.. and i'll look ill compared to them (again..)
sits behind the clouds mostly
Back again. Mario Kart is good fun.
A few more added to the Cape Town batch

It's like my signature still life shot!
:D hehe
Am cursing the fact that the lions wouldn't come out from under the trees
you could do a series of shots of the life of a pint of Guinness... yes i know i'm strange but i haven't taken photos in a while and i've going creatively crazy...
I want to do a Triptych of the cheetah in motion if I can
oooo!!!! :D
so what's everyone up to this evening? it seems very quiet, are all the nocturnal people sleeping?
listening to Air. The band not the gas
The whole evening's been quiet
Yay for Air!
...the band, not the gad.
Or the gas.
:D
Which album?
Oxygen's pretty handy
whole week... just goes to show how the C's keep convo's rolling I guess
people must have actual lives... like outside the house.. i used to have one of those... :P
Not much at all. I'd planned to get through some TV episodes (House probably - it gets taken off of BT Vision next week and I want to watch it first!). Ended up playing Mario Kart instead, and now listening to music while catching up on Google Reader.
Thinking about a a blog post of race start times for Sunday as a trial, not sure I can be bothered.
It is Easter week too so those with kids may be entertaining them...
Just writing up something. Two things to be fair. And then I plan on reading this weeks F1 Weekender
Love 2. Been listening to all the albums in order, sort of. I forgot the side projects they've done, but they're queued up after
doing a bit of writing with GP3 driving later
:)
I wasn't expecting that tweet from Dylan.. new gig I see :)
Yep. Keeping my other blog, but plan on finally making it about more general stuff, which I've been trying to do for about a year :)
Not quite how I'd hoped but I got this through the pink tinted glasses of a German tourist :)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bassanoclapper/4506618360/
Watching Eddie Izzard
Cool, looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
His opinions and writings are a little 'unique'..
I love Izzard, which show?
Circle. It's on 4
where??? :)
oooo!!!! :D
Well, lets see how this turns out then :)
Dylan's?? He's opinionated all right, but seems to love what he's at. I find some of his posts a bit too confrontational for liking though
A quick reminder that the wonderful Stuart Codling is putting himself up for a charity cycle ride tomorrow. Please, please put your hand in your pocket and sponsor the guy because you know he's ace, and you know he'll really appreciate it. And so will we.
http://www.everydayhero.co.uk/btc_extreme_chicken
Show him the way :)
Will do, saw Mr C tweet it earlier and planning to donate tomorrow :) hope all is well!
Thanks for the reminder Christine
Hope you a both enjoying your break
There is the potential for a good blogger in there somewhere.
He used to write for Planet IRL but fell out with Kohl I think.. he needs to move on from it.
Ooooh, I'll remind myself tomorrow and donate a few quid. Good cause that :)
yep
Will do, thanks for the reminder.
You can also win his book at VivaF1.
ooo thanks for the reminder Christine! :)
It says I'm donating to Anthony Rowlinson (he's a former ed of Autosport_, I take it they are in the same team..
They are, yup.
Evening all, how are we all doing?
@lou, have replied, my mistake! bad habit!
hi Jon
Hey Jon, I'm good. Hows you?
hi Jon
Pretty good thank you :)
hhehe okay, i got very confused... thought you were trying to make me a journalist :P
Done
#oops
Hi Jon. Re: you're running, have you considered a marathon or is that too far / wrong sort of training?
I will get there eventually :D a marathon is half the distance, its more speed than distance but one day i shall do that #potentially
You could start with the Great North Run...
Lukeh & Mr C may need to add this to the list - Baby Springbok:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bassanoclapper/4506655782/
Hi Jon
:D hehe i can be a journalist if you like... much prefer to be a photographer though :P
#sometimesiwanttobetoo ;)
#sometimesiwanttobetoo ;)
awwwww!!!
I could do, but that is 300 miles away...
Loads of people come up to do it...
They have a half marathon at silverstone! I can run round making car noises :D
awesome! i'll go take pics for you... you should totally do it ;)
apparently there's this little run around London too
Its called run to the beat, sounds interesting
I was thinking of the Marathon
oh right yeah :D that too
Will do in the morning
Time to sit down for the "Leigh O'Gorman Grand Prix World Series powered by GP3 - Round 3 of 32 at Kyalami". Looking for my first finish of the season.
:D
sleepbound now,
see you all later
Night SB
Night sb.
night! i'm off too! night all! xx
bye lou, and no doubt, to everyone who leaves in the next 15 mins.
Night both.
Have fun tomorrow. Good night
Night
:D
Wow, I just lost an hour
Clocks changed again?
I'm quite scared how accurate that turned out to be.
Felt like it
I feel like I've done that a couple of times tonight. Feels like 1am.
sleeptime
Good morning Doohickey
I don't think I've ever seen an 8hr gap in the comments
Hmmm. I didn't have anything to say
Alison Said "It looks Quiet" Earlier on
I always knew she was smart
When did Saturday mornings become cooking day on TV?
I think it's time for Lost before getting up
Nothing wrong with a bit of Saturday kitchen!!
I missed some of it this morning though. We went out duck hunting :D
Agees ago, Saturday Kitchen is great...
Morning, all three of you.
hey all while im waiting for some sort of track action to begin i thought i would say hi. im outside and its actually sunny :) i must be the only girl here
Are you at rockingham?
Saturday evening is Dr Who for me
Gosh, that's very English
nope. im not even sure where that is..... am at lydden hill. i think im getting funny looks cause out of the 20 or so spectators im the only girl and i have 2 cameras round my neck :) am just happy to be enjoying the sun though :)
Youe need one of those high visibility vests. Then everyone will assume you are official.
I am having an awesome bottle of red wine
hehehe i may see if i can sneak through the paddock in a moment..
I could get you a yellow one as long as you scratch of the BA bit on the back
Hello to those arriving
No, it seemed fine
Just one cooking show finished and then another one came on
When did Saturday Swap Shop go off the air?
Fisi and his team-mates managed to come second in the GT2 class in final practise, which makes me happy :)
You might see more spectators and a (slightly) more even split on race day, though as it is a club event perhaps not..
Morning all, this fine afternoon... I was on red wine last night and it made me sleep well :)
Hello all, thought I'd re-post this comment from Christine from earlier in case anyone missed it.
1982 apparently (now singing I Wanna be a Winner by Brown Sauce)
LMS update: The car Fisi and Alesi will be driving tomorrow has just qualified 4th-in-class. The time was obtained by Toni Vilander.
Hi folks,
So much for me getting up early
Hi Leigh
A quiet afternoon here. All you've missed is the sun :)
Well, the sun is still out so that's not so bad.
:)
Going to catch qualifying for IndyLights and the IRL then head out for nice cycle in the remaining afternoon glory
Talking of which, I've sorted out trains for going to see my sister in a couple of weeks so I'm off out to enjoy the sunshiney goodness. Catch you all later
Enjoy
See ya Janna
Lunch beckons for me, I think
Might even grab some pringles while i'm at it
:)
IndyLights:
Very, very odd spin for Adrian Campos Jr in Qualifying. A rather slow speed slide and he managed to stuff into the wall - don't see that too often
Hello all
checking in on the Indy lights FP
This is the qualifying session
IndyLights:
Wow - pole by 0.5 seconds by JK Vernay
Sorry, I'm back.
IRL:
Qualifying about to get the green flag
I think there's a Rolex race starting later.
There is indeed
Excellent, this track looks very good. Looking forward to watching the racing this weekend
Bertrand Baguette on track, wasn't he mentioned for an F1 ride this year, I remember Mr. C having a little fun with his name
Baguette was the Renault reserve
Yep, 96% chance of a drive with Sauber.
Nice to see that worked out for him.
Aha!
No, wait - he did the rookie test for Renault - not the reserve slot
:)
He was the 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 Series Champion
I also like how well Mike Conway does at times, he was in the F1 pipeline for a while, wasn't he
Yep - Conway was the third Honda driver who was cast out when Honda split
de Silvestro looks excellent so far too - very, very good.
First step to success - get a nickname; thus de Silvestro has earned the moniker "The Swiss Miss"
:)
Danica was dropped an F-bomb on the radio in St. Pete about Simona. I think Simona will prove to be better than Danica
In all fairness to Danica, de Silvestro's junior racing record kicks Danica into touch by a country mile - let's hope de Silvestro can carry that momentum through to the full series.
I agree, I have been very impressed with Simona. I remember watching her in F-BMW at the USGP, she was always in the top 5
IRL:
...and a spin for Dan Wheldon brings out the full course yellow
Also came close to taking the Atlantics title last year too
This sucks, trying to watch qualy and reading a text book.
Aye - I'm writing a post right now and getting heavily distracted
:)
Leigh, will you be on the doohicky watching race tommorrow? I will be
Still not sure where there'll be passing, but it does look like a wonderful track to drive
Doohickey? The IRL site?
Yep - it'll be 8pm here, so a perfect way to finish the weekend
L)
I'm sure there will be some passing, provided Tilke had nothing to do with it's construction
Doohickey, I'll be on the IRL site to ride along with a driver and watching on TV.
Was thinking last night that it reminds me of the old Zandvoort - I can see some mistakes being made, the circuit does look tough
I was thinking the same thing, I have it on one of my PS2 games. I think the Rolex race will tell us alot about this track. It's the first time I have ever seen it
Go Milka!!!!!!
Maybe she'll get within 5 seconds of the next driver....
That's a tall order.
And Milka ain't tall
IRL:
Sato and Viso is 2nd and 3rd so far - great laps
tuning out for now, will see you tommorrow for the race
see you Joe
IRL:
Qualifying done - Mike Conway finishes 2nd with Sato starting 6th; great job by both. The final top 6 is Power, Conway, Castroneves, Andretti, Dixon and Sato. Surprise as Franchitti, Briscoe and Justin Wilson are 7th, 9th and 11th respectively.
Looking forward to this tomorrow.
Right I'm off for a cycle before Doctor Who - shall be back in a while
*waves* i survived being out in the sunshine all day :)
Hello
Hi Pat
The track map makes it look like Oschersleben with gradient.
How was the day? I bet the air did you good. What was racing/qualifying?
It was lovely, yeah getting out of the house was brilliant. It was a SEMSEC meet... so a sprint race in the morning, then a quick practice, quali and then a series of races in the afternoon. :) There weren't many spectators but it was just lovely to practice techniques and things with the added bonus of having a nice time watching the racing.
Hello lou and Pat. Hope you are all alright.
yeah thanks, what about you RG? had a nice day?
Yeah, its been alright. Not too bad outside and didn't do too bad in predicting the Grand National either.
Hey
That's good, sounds like a nice relaxed way to get some practice in.
my friend text me to say she won £22 on the Grand National... i'd totally forgotten it was on.
yeah it was, plus Lydden Hill is a tiny track so it was easy for me to get round and get different angles without getting exhausted :)
Hullo all! :)
I saw the last quarter of it. No idea what was happening. Usually I either watch in full or completely ignore it...
Hi
Went for State of Play, finished third. Can't complain.
Hey lukeh
Hello, i take it you're excited about a certain show that's on soon..
i'm just happy to be home, doctor who is an added bonus :)
Oooh, what time does it start? I cant take any much more of this football.
6:15 i believe?
:)
6:15pm
Oooh thank you. Thats a relief.
Back folks
How is everyone?
Hi leigh. I'm tired but relaxed :) looking forward to the next hour!
Yes sir!!
:D
I cannot tell you how much I despise Wipeout - what a truly awful show. Did anyone see DW's weekend preview and what it's up against?
Even the awesomeness of Richard Hammond can't save this show
There's something not quite right about this:
5 million people watched You've Been Framed Extreme??? What the hell?!
I've gotta be honest - I'm pretty close to dropping Triple League Racing from my Twitter feed. Every single comment is about how dreadful everything is in racing.
It's getting very annoying.
I've had similar thoughts.
I've no problem with negative posts if they are well thought out and articulated, but recently it's been a barrage of criticism about Planet-IRL and all things racing.
Ahhh well...
Wipeout has overrun - I am officially tapping my fingers on the arm of my chair!!
:/
I expect the National delayed everything after it. I'm not sure why it would but that was the only live thing. Oh that and the news, maybe that was extended
Completely forgot about the Grand National... somehow
Heeeheheheheeee. I love Matt Smith :D
hehehe i love that she's still in her night cloths :)
Dear iPlayer,
You have chosen a bad time to start screwing up.
Yours sincerely,
Leigh
I can't help but look at that guy and think of the Demon Headmaster ;_;
Good episode, but I can't but think that the trailer for next week's episode is just a repeat of "Power of the Daleks"
Well that was awesome as ever :D next week's episode is very confusing already...
In saying that, I'm looking forward to it
We've seen a new side to the Doctor I think. Not too good under pressure perhaps?
Yeah! Angry doctor was angry...
Still a good episode though.
:)
Evening all.
Hey Christine! How are you?
*checks date*
You're not allowed back here yet! ;)
Good thanks, yourself?
evening christine
Hiya christine!
I makes the rules :)
Oooh, hello there Mrs C
much better than i have been :) just editing lots of photos now so all is good with me. i hope you had a nice break :)
Doctor Who ping! http://wibblywobbly.wordpress.com/2010/04/10/the-beast-below-dark-side-of-the-doctor/
Yes, Ma'am!
I've been so gripped by Dr Who I may have fotgotten to eat after work... I wondered what that rumbling noise was...
I missed it live. Boooo. Must watch iPlayer.
Yay for the iPlayer! :)
Except when it fails for live stream. Our Doctor Who was somewhat interrupted.
loving the pole :) are you gonna have a top 3 at the end of the series or something?
i need to sort out my spelling... sorry!
Evening.
Got back safe from the UK last night - thanks again to those who I met up with for dinner as both Mrs. Goat and I had a great time.
Tomorrow I shall catch up with the blog.
What's the story with the multi-day thread? Is everything OK?
ooooh, good idea!
Perhaps have it out of 5? As with just the 3 there might be some slighty one sided results.
We will likely explain more tomorrow.
Hey Gavin, good to see you are ok.
Ah OK, thought I'd missed something as I have been AFK for a few days. Will wait till then then...
Hiya Gavin :)
Thanks. The UK is really lovely and we had a brilliant time. but it's nice to be back in Denmark ;)
Keeping us in suspense again ;)
urgh! i'm not bright red... stupid outside.
seriously need to work on my typing
*shakes fist at outside*
I fear it will get me too come the start of July. ;)
Mrs Goat and I got a little burnt waiting for the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace ;9
i don't think it was the sun... more the wind... it's erm.... very open at the track..
Ouch, windburn? Not nice. :(
Boo, like our home pitch, not fun at all.
hehe was worth it though :)
Did you get many good photos then?
going through them now, but i hope so :)
yay! :)
Where did you go?
Lydden Hill race track, there was a local Motorsport enthusiasts meet today and i decided i'd check it out and see if i could get any good shots :)
I've been there a few times. It's quite a good track for pictures - there's a great place to stand on the inside of a corner (the track is sort of L shaped).
yep, i spent most of the afternoon there :) as did a pro photographer :)
I hope you were networking appropriately :)
That may depend on which side of the barrier the pro photographer was.
i did say hello, but he just gave me a funny look. When i walked through the paddock everyone seemed very disorganised, i smiled and attempted conversation with a few people but no one was overly friendly.... no one except two little children who at one point sat at my feet smiling at me and asking about my camera :D better luck next time i suppose :)
....that was odd. I just went into the kitchen and mum was humming The Chain to herself. I think I have subconsciously got it into her thoughts via constant F1...
hehehe
Now to get her to like that Rubens fella' ;)
i hear Jenson's a nice guy to support...
she already likes jenson :D
awesome!
a pic from today that made me smile - http://twitpic.com/1enxgj
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/04/10/downshifting/
I have a feeling he's facing the wrong way... :)
Bertrand Baguette on track, wasn't he mentioned for an F1 ride this year, I remember Mr. C having a little fun with his name
Yep, 96% chance of a drive with Sauber.
Nice to see that worked out for him. {Comment #1954}
I suppose the 4% was left out for a reason...
Guest post ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/04/10/heat-dust-and-a-little-ice-please/
(Sorry for the delay Ms Snowcat.)
The post on F1 Minute as well: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/04/10/a-minutes-silence/
Now, I must head to bed. Goodnight all!
night Christine :) say hi to mr c for us :)
Glad to have you back, night mrs c
Night
Hello to you all! I have had a very good day. How are we all?
Hi Jon,
How are you?
i'm okay thanks Jon, slightly sunburnt, but just uploading pics so i feel like i've had a productive day :)
Very well thanks!
Jonnn!!! I'm great thanks. Why are you so very good then?
oooh yes how was lydden?
btw, replied to your email, seems ive been an idiot again #sorrylou
that is the right form this time, promise!
Just had one of those really great days, spent the day with my girlfriend and some really good friends.
really good :)
ehehehe! i did wonder! ;)
Hi Jon. Reasonable I suppose..
i sent you the form to apply to apply for MSA media credentials, which is more effort than its worth i can tell you! the MSV form is very simple and makes sense with the emails i sent before. now i understand your last email!
:D hehee happens to the best of us :)
*looks* ahhh that makes a heap more sense! :D
i had assumed you'd got the MSA and MSV mixed up, hense my email.
okay most of my pics from today are here -
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/sets/72157623702539005/
...comments, opinions, advice and general feedback is much appreciated :)
you went to a SEMSEC meeting! i assumed you'd gone to rallycross. thats awesome, i was learning all about SEMSEC yesterday!
i missed the rallycross last week :( - stupid illness. but yeah, it seemed slightly disorganised, but once they got going with the racing it was awesome! (i don't know much about SEMSEC though..)
South Eastern Motor something something something?
They're basically a race club that do sprints, hill climbs and some race stuff too, they only run at Lydden Hill and Brands Hatch though, hense the south eastern bit. They only have a few championships too, but it seems good apart from the lack of other circuits. A typical championship year includes 4 rounds at each circuit.
Looking good, I like that you got a lot of cars in focus with the tracking/panning.
South East Motorsport Enthusiast Club? i think...
that explains the amount they have at lydennhill then :) with the sun out it made for a lovely afternoon of racing actually :) i was pleasantly surprised tbh :)
sounds about right!
i keep meaning to go down to lydden hill, whats the spectating like? barriers and such?
sounds about right!
Ahh a bit like the Castle Combe one then but with an extra circuit..
couldnt have put it better myself! apart from that castle combe racing club is run from the circuit, the guy who started it up came and talked at my uni. they did it so that they could run all their events in house, a bit like MSV are doing now
from a spectators point of view it's almost perfect. the fences only go up to about elbow height so it's easy to see over them, the two mini grand stands are pretty well positioned, and cause it's a small track you're able to see most of the action from pretty much where ever you are. From a photographer's point of view its brilliant as there's no catch fencing :) oh and a perfect place to stand at the inside of a corner. for £12 i'd recommend you coming down, i'll probably pop by next time too.
awesome! i love circuits like that, no FIA track rules for them :P
What about paddock access?
:D
well i wondered into the paddock area half expecting to be stopped but wasn't :) it was very manic in their though... so after about 15mins i wondered back out again. No one seemed to mind..
same at most club meetings! just walk in with confidence and smile as you walk through the gate and all is great!
:D i took a few shots but wasn't feeling confident enough to stay long enough to get nice ones.. hehe next time though :)
yay! Mr C is around :) hehe he 'favourited' and added to his gallery one of my personal favourite shots from today!
Thank you Mr C! :)
#nothere
they're ace lou
*hugs the absent Mr C* Thank you! have missed you, come back soon ;)
i shall. i has some stuff to invent first.
*raises glass of... orange squash... to commenters*
*waves*
howdy.
#wantsorangesquash
You could start a wine site... I want to learn more about wine. My sister bought me "Wine For Dummies".
*tips hat*
WB, BTW :)
stop by for a chat too :P but that sounds very exciting. I hope you had/are having fun with the ipad :)
Jon, have filled in the form now ;)
it's gone away for two days :(
hooorah :D
i need less wine. i think i need a treadmill with comments, so i can take part and get fit. f1 made me chubby.
oh noes! you'll get to see it again on monday though? ;)
i hear JB is looking for people to do triathlons with? ;)
I hesitate to suggest you take up golf but it seems to work for me.
i'm very excited, but very nervous too now just in case i do get it... i mean... i wouldn't know where to start! #newthingsareescary
Although i think i may owe you several drinks...
yes. first impressions:
- street view is awesome
- it feels weird sitting down with it, am forever walking around
- it changes everything
What form is this, may I ask?
May I suggest Jon's (the name escapes me for a link) new blog to keep up and possibly help?
That's the commenting and exercise you were after :)
It sounds incredibly awesome, so it's not just a large ipod touch then?
yeah i wouldnt get too excited just yet just in case, but im sure it'll be fine!
scarily, the photos you sent are hte ones i wanted to use :D
i saw that. i want to get a bit of exercise. more than golf, less than olympic standard :)
http://icantrun.wordpress.com
#metoo
I ran my first proper run on Wednesday, my legs only stopped aching today.
#oops
tennis is fun!! :) swimming is also good for fun exercise. failing that i'm sure Andy wouldn't mind if you look his kids to the park every weekend :P
Golf on our local course/s. Hilly=understatement :)
he also has hte coolest folding bike ever, its like hte smallest in the world i think
one... (the name escapes me) that could help me get a lot better pics, and help me for the future :)
How about swimming? Thats usually relaxing and helps?
i have the goggles problem lukeh (i think) has. i can't see without glasses and the goggles stream up.
MSV media form, help lou get behind the barriers!
it's a way in the future so plenty of time.
yay! i just picked some general ones that you could slot into different places if needs be.
it is like no other thing before it.
Ah. Perhaps not then
i must go be productive. catch you in the week y'all.
Lukeh and i had the same convo the other day actually... and yeah i think that's him :)
woo! :)
byeeeeeeee, stay safe
#downwiththekids
Cool :)
hehehe :D i'm very excited for you (seeing as i wont get one till i'm at least 25 ;) )
See ya
although i sent her hte msa one by mistake and we both got quite confused. all sorted now though!
Have fun mate, see yaa round
byee Mr C! don't go away for too long and have fun with the ipad! ;)
okay, i'm off to apply a load of aftersun and then try and get some sleep. Thanks for the comments about my pics, and thanks so much for the help Jon!
night all! xx
What do you want credited as lou?
It'll be Credit: whatever you want here. with that linked to your flickr until you have a website :P
night lou and im off as well, playing a game somewhere in Northumberland. Going on a mystery tour, hooray. lotsa love.
Goodnight both..
Night RG and lou
goodness... Erm my full name if it's for official purposes I suppose? Unless I can get away with 'lou johnson'?
#nothere
I suggest you stick with what you want to be known as in hte F1 paddock :D
Lou Johnson will be fine then... Not that I've thought that far ahead yet..
just something to think about, if you call yourself Louise now then when you move up people may have never heard of this "lou" ;) just a though
Lou, from the internet.
is that a good or bad thing? But I take your point, most people like emma know me as lou so.... Ooo decisions! Lol okay sleep time xxx
i dunno! its just something to think about atleast, you'll gather a reputation for yourself, so it depends what you want them to calling you!
I need sleep too! Long day! Night all
night Jon
Nachos will do that :)
Evening all
Just catching up, nearly done
I've heard it's more appropriate to think of an iPod Touch as a small iPad
:D I am still to be convinced. Luckily there is still no release date for Aus
On my recent holiday I found walking around wineries actually dropped the weight down a bit. A wine tour holiday perhaps then?
Supposedly, the rest of the world should start to get it later this month. I'm thinking early May as they are struggling to keep up with demand
Word is that those that actually try it are even more astounded by it
I was astounded by the ipod touch when I first got one, then I sold it. I want to know that the ipad is better than a laptop in my lounge room. Could be that it is.
It's clearly not an 'only computer' kind of machine though
I've been wanting a laptop for a while [my desktop suits me perfectly] and the iPad will complement my iMac to a tee
Depends what you use it for really
Browsing and email? I can't see how it'll fail
Yep, that's the idea. I just don't want to jump too fast. Also, I really get the felling the version 2 will be better, as with most of these things. I wonder if I can resist for a whole year!
Version 2 and then 3 will be so much better, much like the iPhone
I'll buy one in the first week and upgrade when I feel the need
Apple products have great resale value
My two year old iMac is still worth about 2/3 of it's purchase price
Can't argue with that. I sold my macbook for way more than it was worth.
I need some good reviews from people that have used it for a few weeks. Maybe there will be some around by the time they are available here
I'll let you know
If a release date isn't announced soon, I have a friend travelling to the states in a couple of weeks :D
my best friend has just got engaged, and she asked me if I want her to plan her wedding around the F1.calendar. My friends know me so well. :D
I am surprised whe didnt ask you to plan the wedding
That is one thing I couldn't plan, I wouldn't know where to start. If she wants a honeymoon in Monaco however...
ah travel. Yep, that's your thing
F1 travel :D
Morning everyone :)
Morning
The entire GT1 field has crashed in the warm-up. Which would sound more impressive if I didn't add that there is only one GT1 car...
Hmmm. I did that once (in the wet)
Hmmm. I did that once (in the wet) {Comment #2195}
That's one excuse Patrice Goueslard doesn't have today...
oops
That's one excuse Patrice Goueslard doesn't have today...
oops {Comment #2197}
For the sake of completion, I should probably mention that the track had 39 other cars from different classes on it - but Patrice made the mistake without "assistance" from any other car. 3 other cars copied the example but didn't hit the barrier like Patrice did.
The LMS race has now started and it appears that some of the front-runners have mistaken it for a demolition derby...
Morning all.
Morning.
It's getting cold here
We have had glorious sunshine all week, we even went outside yesterday. Today is not looking quite so summery though.
Is that where the weather went?
Stupid earth turning and all that....
I did manage to tour some awesome wineries over the past week though :D
You did have it good in the UK this week. We went out to see Phantom of the Opera on Thursday and we were wearing short sleeve shirts.
I went out to the garden to play with my nieces during the birthday party (back in Denmark) and I was cold with a heavy jacket on!
This is probably all the summer weather we will get, so you certainly timed it right!
That will help :)
It did. Although I felt a bit like James May (if you have ever seen that TV show he did about wine)
Oh yes, I liked that show. Did you take an expert with you?
We saw one of the California episodes - it is very funny. I like that it's Top Gear for Wine too!
Sadly no. There seemed to be lots around so I felt like a bit of an idiot. I don't know why you cant just "like" wine without the posh stuff
Was the expert on a bicycle?
It feels like it - we got a little sunburnt watching the changing of the guards too!
I wished i was on a bicycle rather than a car, I could have drunk more!
Morning everyone
Morning Lukeh.
I think I am too Doctor Who obsessed. I had a dream last night that he sold his tardis to be a millionaire and became a TV presenter on This Morning, but as Tom Baker rather than Matt Smith...
not so sure on that one....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZRvUzZc8-E&feature=related
:-)
The TARDIS would go for quite a lot of cash.
Good job we are moving out - last night the parties were so loud in the building it was like the music was in our flat.
My wife has just gone downstairs to tell off our new neighbour who is blasting out Celine Dion so loud our floor is shaking - apparently he's cleaning!
Don't go outside!
http://www.prguitarman.com/index.php?id=58
Hehehehehe.
Morning folks
Heya RG
and apparently has no taste either
Morning RG.
Hola
woah, comment overload. They weren't there before!
Wow - this pixels video is awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qASf5DEN_c4
I saw that on the same day I saw the bananas thing. That day was a mindblowing day
Wow. That ain't half bad.
Morning all, everyone having a nice day?
Morning guys, still no proper internet. making do with my mobile and opera 4. may go insane as a result.
Yes indeed... I've finished preparing today's giggles radio show :)
oooo!! Yay :)
aww lack of public holiday tomorrow means I probably can't stay up for it :(
Shame!
We could write to the prime minister and ask if my birthday can be a public holiday? It totally should be.
Morning all, everyone having a nice day? {Comment #2232}
I'm having a great day, enjoying listening to the Le Mans Series race. The first half-hour was absolute mayhem with several cars crashing and one car doing three laps on a broken suspension and then picking up a drive-through penalty (don't ask). The #95 AF Corse car that I'm supporting is currently 4th-in-class due to a combination of Alesi getting stuck in to some ding-dong battles without hitting anyone (which appears to be a rare art at the moment) and Toni Vilander simply whizzing past opponents.
It should. I took 3 weeks off for mine :D
are you back in Canberra yet?
It really should.
Dear Australian Prime Minister,
Please make Amy's birthday a public holiday as it should be. If you fix it in time for tomorrow then we'll forgive you about the previous ones.
Cheers,
Giggles
Yes, and work tomorrow :-(
I think all April should be a holiday as "the birthday month"
If you run to replace Kevin I will vote for you. Not that I can vote in this country. But, the thought is what counts.
I love how Amy manages to convince so much. Get into the paddock easy with 'But I'm Amy', demand a public birthday holiday... :)
Next I shall try to talk my way out of Economy on my way to London.
Not to mention 'let them in too, they're with me'
can you talk me into the paddock in spa please? :)
if I can talk me into the paddock in Spa I'd be surprised. Far too many pesky UK McLaren members making the trip over :(
I keep say - high-vis vest, and camera with long lens. Gets you in anywhere
oh :( bad times.
my camera lens isn't that long though :( di they wear hi vis vests in f1? Isn't it a special tabard?
Well, that too
Tis true. My cousing did it at Spa a couple of years ago :)
but when you get in as a photographer you can be in every paddock! good times!
Just joining in with the crowd seems to work?
Especially if that nice Mclaren fellow is there
hehe a long way to go yet :) like figuring out what I want to be known as.... I'm thinking there are less lou johnsons on the Internet than there are louise johnsons...My silly parents for giving me a common name lol :)
You have to know when and where they are meeting though, thats the hard part.
I think superman is taken. Are you after a pseudonym?
I like you as Lou :D When I hear Louise I think "Goodman"
I always liked my friend Lou as Lou, too
hehe I like being called lou too, jon asked me what I wanted to be credited as yesterday and it just got me thinking.
anyways... in case anyone missed them, some pics i took yesterday - http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/sets/72157623702539005/
:)
Ooooh, yay!
which are fantastic.
How could we? Excellent stuff yet again... I hope that when we go to Spa that you can give me a few pointers. Are you following the cars as you take the pic?
aw thank you :)
I have finally managed to watch Heikki's video with his trainer. It's in Melbourne! It has Catherine! Best video ever!
of course! although it will be my first time shooting f1 cars at top speed i think.. so i may be slightly angry if i don't get it straight away ;) Yeah essentially yesterday i was just practising my panning technique rather than trying to get any atmospheric shots. But yep, it's pretty simple once you get the hang of it in that you need to follow the car as it approaches and continue to follow it as you take the picture. The more and more used to shooting at one particular place on the track you are the easier it gets to predict the racing line and get a better shot.
I watched Doctor Who at last! My thoughts: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/04/11/the-beast-below/
You're quite right in The Matrix and terry Pratchett! Never considered that!
Does anyone who watched Dr Who actually like the new intro? I think I may be the only person based on all the responses I've seen!
didn't Alex say he didn't mind it?
Ahh yeah, he did. Yay that makes 2 people! :)
:)
I don't mind it at all.
Phew :)
someone who's even more obsessed than I am with the show just showed me a discussion on a forum he's part of discussing who they think is going to be the big bad enemy of the Doctor in this series or in series' to come. I had a bit of a chuckle when I noticed James Cordon is currently second placed on their list
I like the new bbc beta page, and the idea of a topic tracker, although i'm not sure how useful it will be for me. It's taking me a while to get used to though..
afternoon folks
Hiya leigh. you ok?
not too bad Lukeh
just done a bit of writing, so am relaxing a little now
what goes on your end?
By the way, video of the day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lul-Y8vSr0I
:D
Good stuff, I'm ok. should be getting on with dissertation work but I can't be bothered today, bleh.
William Shatner singing is always priceless viewing :)
I know that feeling all too well
I quite liked it.
aha :)
:)
Just done an application form. Took me 3 hours, possibly due to me watching and listening to the Le Mans at the same time...
Afternoon all.
According to Radio Le Mans, F1's going to have a mandatory KERS system next year acquired through tendering process. Please tell me they're wrong...
this item arrived in the post last week:
http://astore.amazon.co.uk/sidepodcast-21/detail/B002Q6CDLA
very much recommended if you've yet to find a comfortable position for the f1 timing app during races.
situating it atop your monitor, also makes for convenient iplayer viewing, whilst "working" :)
I have been playing "Catch Up With Lost" today and now I've watched up to the end of episode 9, but I must sleeps since the Prime Minister hasn't given me tomorrow off work yet. Night all!
wow!!! that looks awesome!
Like a Spider-Robot iPod!!
grrrr! Silly Prime Minister!
Good night Amy!
Night Amy :)
night Amy!
Happy Birthday!!! (if it's the 12th in Australia atm..)
not for another 5 minutes ;). It is in New Zealand though :D
hehee okay happy New Zealand Birthday Amy ;)
#95 (i.e. the AF Corse Fisi, Alesi and Vilander are using - the latter is at the wheel right now) is leading GT2! I'm really happy!
I swear Rollercoaster Tycoon hates me at the moment, that or I am employing the worst. mechanics. ever.
hehe i always get that. thanks for choosing DT btw :P
:D
I had a feeling it was you but I didn't want to say ;)
:D i'm gonna have to teach you to use chop sticks :P
They are very confusing things... :( I feel like whenever I use them I am literally fighting the food to eat it.
Truth.
oh?.. they're really simple to use once you get the hang of them, they're great :)
I've only used them once to be fair, I wasn't sure where to start when I first used them. It was quite embarrasing :)
I don't recommend using them at the carvery ;)
:D heheeh
I'll poke one through the middle of a yorkshire and eat it like a lollipop :D
oh lordy...
Good job we had Italian last Wednesday eh?
yes :)
:D
I read that as you'll poke one through the middle of yorkshire. Thought that would have been quite impressive.
Hey all.
I'm not that hungry. ;)
Hello again RG
I forgot to tell you guys something. Remember how Mrs. Goat and Mrs. Giggles had a slight delay on their food? Well later on I overhead the owner "vividly" discussing with our waitress why she had allowed that to happen (in Italian)...
Oh dear! He can be a little... um... enthusiastic sometimes.
hehehe Hi RG
Well he is Italian - it was amusing to see after a week spent with my family ;)
His pizzas were yummy though :)
Indeed. The stuffed aubergines and Ravioli were excellent too ;)
I remember once some years ago in there being told by the waitress that she couldn't take my order. I was trying to work out why not (no pen, no paper) but it turned out the reason was that she couldn't speak italian and so she wasn't allowed to send an order down to the kitchen because the chefs didn't speak english and everything would be confused. She had to wait for John to come back.
and the pasta! yuummm!!!
:D
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/04/11/live-giggles-radio-k/
yay! :)
♥
:)
Hey everyone,
Just back in the door.
Should anyone be interested in this evening's IRL race from Barber Motorsports park, it is available from indycar.com - the IndyLights race starts at 6pm (GMT) with the Indycar race following at 8pm (GMT)
:)
IndyLights:
Holy moly - the IndyLights driver Niall Quinn is also Irish; however he did not play in Italia '90 and did not score a goal against the Dutch
IndyLights:
I desperately want the Indy series to get some decent marshals / clearance crew - there should not ever be safety car for a rolling off the side of the track.
Good evening.
good evening pat
Evening Pat.
IndyLights:
Chequered flag - great job by JK Vernay.
I missed Giggles Radio again!
Tweets suggest little passing, not looking good for later. Am deciding whether to watch IRL, MotoGP or Masters... curse those who schedule things at the same time.
MotoGP I reckon...
I suspect the exciting part of the Masters will be nearer the end and after the racing, and you can watch MotoGP on TV and IRL on the computer can't you?
apart from yours saying there was lots :)
I think I proved last Sunday when I tried that, I can only follow one at a time :)
That's my thinking, though will be a Stoner walkover, it's his track..
Hell, I enjoyed - Vernay had it easy, but the mid-pack action great. There's passing places if some tries...
This is officially awesome
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv3KYRwPKAo&feature=youtu.be
Sounds a bit like F1 then
pretty much, yeah - reminds me a lot of the old Zandvoort / Zolder circuits. A very tough circuit, but no obvious passing places
Was I the only person seeing overtaking? A dream, maybe?
Wowee! Thats awesome!
Evening all.
Thanks to everyone who sponsored us in the Muc-Off 8!
Just got home. We were running 104th out of over 300 at the end – pretty respectable given the number of pros and semi-pros in the field.
I did the start. The Ickx stratagem was a massive error. I spent most of the first lap stuck behind people who appeared not to know how to ride a mountain bike. 3/4 of the way round the first lap I had a fairly epic shunt: front shifter got bunged up with mud and wouldn't downshift. As I faffed around trying to get it to work, I went headlong into the obstacle (steep drop into mud bath) I was trying to downshift for and went over the handlebars. A few minutes later I realised that my pump had disappeared, presumably into the goo...
There were loads of RBR mechanics, engineers and factory people there. Mark Webber had turned it down on the grounds that he'd "grow the horns" and try to race.
I had two more shunts during the day, both during the timed downhill section. The last one was a fairly spectacular sideways slide into the remnants of a blown-down tree. I don't think I broke the record.
Funniest moment of the day was when I moved over and let one of the leaders through. Did he say thanks? Not even a grunt. Less than a minute later there was a bang and his chain snapped. That's karma, that is.
Right – steak followed by bed!
Right, so I've been working since lunchtime getting my blog up to date and here are my posts for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Qualifying: http://f1numbers.wordpress.com/2010/04/11/sepang-qualifying-analysis/
Fantasy Racers: http://f1numbers.wordpress.com/2010/04/11/fantasy-racers-2010-sepang/
Driver Consistency: http://f1numbers.wordpress.com/2010/04/11/driver-consistency-malaysia/
I hope you still enjoy them even though they are a week late. This may happen a few times this year I think...
Well done Stuart.
Serves him right
;)
Heheh!!
Good to hear it went well Stuart, was more than happy to donate a bit of money.104/300 is great!
Awesome mate :)
Not bad considering the problems you had! Glad you seem to have enjoyed it. :)
Sounds like a good plan
Congrats on the finish position, just outside the top 100, no mean feat. And yeah, serves himself right eh.
I've got the IRL race build up live here http://racecontrol.indycar.com/player.php?type=false
You'll need to get a login if you don't have one
I'm on board for the IRL race
There's a race on? Do you want a thread?
There is, and I hadn't thought about a thread... I've no idea.. :)
You should be able to go to www.indycar.com and be in-car with selected drivers. Last race Danica dropped a few f-bombs on radio
Okie dokie. Well, if you do, let me know.
I'm not sure how many of us are following it.
Thanks btw
They've opted not to have Danica's in-car. Must have had some complaints
Ooh, this is Barber Motorsports Park. The track with the giant spider :P
I haven't seen a grandstand on the entire track, I think it's all hill and blankets
a giant spider???!!
The land used to be infested with spiders and cockroaches, but were able to drive them out - so they put up a giant statue of a spider as a reminder
http://cache.boston.com/multimedia/sports/bigshots/030510/bs6.jpg :D
eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who's clever idea was that?
The circuit owner, George Barber
I believe the corner is called "charlotte's web"
Where's Sato on the grid?
Pit road is very, very narrow - will we see a repeat of Coulthard in Adelaide '95?
Yep
Sato starts 6th
YAAAY! Go the Lotus Indycar :D
about to go green.....
:D
GO GO GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Come on Taku!
Does everyone think we need a thread or no?
Taku in front of Kanaan, I'm in car with Kanaan
http://twitpic.com/1exhc9
Yikes... Tim's going for, ur, silver...
Evening all.
Video quality from IRL is great
We saw a version of that a few days ago
http://twitpic.com/1dwxck
Only gripe I have is that they're using the helicopter cam too much.
Hi Steven! how are you?
Trying to get himself the Merc drive?
Hi
Hey mate.
I like that because you can see the different lines the drivers are using rather than the usual extreme close up which tells you nothing about what the cars or drivers are doing
Nice start for Wilson too - from 11th to 9th...
Fine thanks. Saw your pics from Lydden. This one is my fav.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/4508630481/in/set-72157623702539005/
We also saw a version of that a few years ago http://www.amiright.com/album-covers/images/album-David-Bowie-Aladdin-Sane.jpg ;)
I was going to make a facetious comment but there are probably people here who are so young they have never seen that. I think we need a minimum age limit
D****t - Sato slows.........
:(
Lotus has slowed and stopped on track
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :(
good to hear, thanks :) I was thinking I should send a link to the SEMSEC people... but there doesn't appear to be any general contact details, just details of various departments non that would probably apply.
Why stop on the outside of the track on a fast corner? That;s crazy
(not here)
MotoGP is about to start
(still not here)
is it wrong i think that looks kinda cool?..
This is Sato we're talking about.
Send it to the secretary and to the website contact. The secretary has the most contact with the members so is most likely to mention it in club communications and the web guy is the web guy.
http://www.semsec.org.uk/join.html
Now? BBC must be showing it on time delay. BOOO BBC
Bowie was incedibly cool when he did it
Brit driver Mike Conway just beat Power off put road! :D
Its on BBC3
The circuit owner was saying over the weekend that he;ll take suggestions from drivers to change the track for next year if needs be
Brilliant stop by Conway!!!
I won't update then, don't want to spoil it...
OMG!!! did you see that!! ;-)
yay for Mike (ex honda test driver) Conway! :)
It is live from Qatar and is a night race. BBC3. Replay on BBC2 after the Masters.
Off to bed now, enjoy the IRL, catch up with you all tomorrow.
Perhaps we need that thread after all :)
bye Janna! see you tomorrow.
see ya Janna
Night Janna
Night
Whenever I watch Moto GP it bored me really quickly.... I don't think I could ever get into it...
I figured it would be live somewhere. Had I known the BBC2 was time delay I would have watched the race live but I will stick with IRL and Foyle's War and catch the late Moto GP coverage
Must admit, the crowd at Barber looks pretty good
He needs a GP then.
I don't mind.
thank you! i knew you'd help :)
Wow - what a move by Marco!!
Night Janna
Qatar is quite a boring race usually
Were they racing or just sprinting? All the pics seem to be just one car
Moto GP's own Bahrain? :L
I try to get into Moto GP every year and I always turn it off or turn over, ot get disinterested no matter how I try. I just can't get into it I don't think.
More like Singapore.
I love Moto GP but like F1 it is heading in the wrong direction. Traction control, stupid engine rules and constant changes
Actually, wouldn't it be more like Abu Dhabi - a night race of sorts in the desert?
they were racing, the best shots i could get were of just one car.. and most of the categories were either a bit small or with little close racing (except at the start) :(
Hahaaa - guest on the radio calling this Formula 1
That can be a problem. I just thought it would be better if you had a bit more variety in your shots
that's true, i'll be there next time (hopefully) and now i know my way around will try for some different shots. It was nice to get some practice in yesterday though :)
If you can find a slow corner you will have a much better chance of cars being close together becuase even if the time gap is the same the slower speed means the distance between them is less. First lap at a harpin or the like would be good. Or even do a race start/first corner
i'm thinking the first corner would be a good place to start,
Your pretty much guranteed some action at the first corner of a race.
Don't know about anyone else, but I'm really enjoying this Indycar race
The Lotus car's back on track! :D
Points go right the way to the end, so he pick up an extra point or two...
I am not very keen on some of the barriers round this track. The angles are a bit odd to say the least
haven't noticed, will look
Yeah, there's some potential for some head-ons
Simona is doing great! 5th.
There seem to be a few barriers that could be further back from the track and a few that start off a long way back and get closer when it is not necessary
Wow. If Qatar is meant to be boring, I'd love to see what excting is.
very good race, specially at the end :D
Nice pics there Lou. Were you not able to stand in the corner I mentioned, where the track turns left and the spectators are on the inside?
yep i was, however i was shooting directly into the sun, so it the shots i got were weaker and kinda lacking in contrast. :(
Ah yes. Bit of a problem that. The day I was there it was overcast. The scary thing is I looked at the pictures last night and realised that it was 5 years ago we went there!
Here's a link to my pics - all motorbikes

Evening guys, finally found my mobile broadband stick, so can live-comment!!! :D
How are we?
Not too bad TM
IRL about 2/3rd's through
:)
coool!!!!
Dare I ask who's winning?
Hey TM. Not too great if I'm honest, but MotoGP and that nearly made up for it.
the picture of the female photographer makes me jealous.. she has a nice Nikon lens :(
Marco Andretti
I imagine the footy must play a part in the "not too great", eh?
Ah. Manufactured by cautions, or has he been the fastest guy all weekend?
That and my own match. Stupid football.
made a great pass on castroneves for the lead
How bad was your own match?
We lost, but it was more the opposition using quite a few anti-football tactics. And the ref, who was rubbish.
Poxy refs.
I had a bad online race. Mated my car to the wall at Monaco. 3 wheels on my wagon!
This one guy must have been in his first online race ever. So slow at Monaco I reckon he was barely using all of the throttle. 2m12s his best lap, 40 seconds off the pace. Makes Life look quick!!!!!
BTW, is anybody else missing a "real-time conversation" link under the "daily" thread, like there was?
I'd forgotten about her. She was the official photographer for the track day, might be another route for you to try.
Where was that? Never noticed it before
Nasty, whereabouts?
Tabac.
Right next to "Join the conversation", there was a real-time link.
Is that on the homepage?
ahh! didn't know track days had official photographers. that's interesting.
Yeah, on the right-hand side of the home page.
A lot of the people at track days want photos of themselves and their cars on track
I can't remember the company name, but they were doing photo packages and also renting video cameras so you could have one strapped to your bike for a lap or two or something like that.
yeah, that makes a lot of sense. it just hadn't occurred to me.
That's why I never noticed it. I practically never go to the homepage. I have a tab permanently set at http://sidepodcast.com/realtime/ so I can see all the threads
Had a brush with a very slow backmarker on the run down to Station hairpin. I was sorely tempted just to ram them off the track, save others the hassle.
Quite an eventful little race then.
I was doing so well, leapfrogged 2 cars on the run to Ste Devote, and was up to 2nd after my team-mate came unstuck against the same backmarker. Only my screwup prevented me from finishing that race where I was. Shame, I was just starting to like that brute of a Honda RA300 on fat fuel tanks.
http://www.focusedevents.com/photo_video_services.asp
This is an example of what I mean.
GP Legends?
Yep, what gave it away?
Right, time for me to go to bed as I have to be in Central London for 0900.
Can I just confirm that the meet tomorrow is still on at the Coal Hole?
RA300
Not a good place to spin
wohhhh - de silvestro spun near the end of the lap and nearly got taken out by Helio
It's a good car, if you fancy a challenge. In terms of actually doing well in it, it's an absolute nightmare to control and tame. I much prefer a good car like the Eagle.
That said, I did finish 2nd in the last race with it.
shame - the yellows are just too late for Marco
Castroneves against the Ganassi boys for the win. Interesting
i haven't been told any different... oh and please don't laugh at me when i turn up all.. cause i got a bit burnt yesterday :(
this'll be a shoot out for the flag
I promise not to laugh. See you tomorrow then :D
Outside just doesn't like you
see ya!
Even I am watching IRL because i'm at work and there is nothing else on at all. The order scrolling across the top is too small to read so i have no idea what is going on
Shame those lapped cars are in there
2 laps to go. Castroneves leads Dixon then the next 5 cars are lapped then Dario in 3rd
it really doesnt! the one time i go out for a few hours when it's sunny and i get burnt! i look like i've just come back off of holiday :( mum (of course) blames it on the fact i never go outside so i'm not 'used to it'... but i mean... how do you get burnt in April! it wasn't even 18degrees! :(
can i say a proper happy birthday yet?
Hehe now you can, yes! For my birthday I would like Scott to win.
Temperature has nothing to do with it. People get sunburn in ski resorts where the temperature is below zero the whole time
Oh, boo
yay Happy Birthday Amy!
Woo, happy birthday Amy!
Happy birthday Amy
i think i need to explain.. i class 18 degrees as 'warm'... and the idea of getting burnt when it's not really that warm outside in the middle of kent seems strange to me. Getting burnt while skiing is different though?
happy birthday Amy!
Spiderman is away!!
It's all the same. It's just exposure to too much UV from the sun. It can happen at any temperature
I like that he just abandons his car on the track to go climb a fence.
How is that car not overheating?
i think my relationship with outside is the same as with london, i love it.. it hates me. I got burnt in the shade, with a heap of sun cream on while i was in Spain.. when i get into f1 i can tell i'm going to be perminantly burnt..
maybe you need to wear a burka
Hiiiiii
I got burnt on half my face in London yesterday....
It's Helio's thing
Pictures or you don't see the Bing duck
This south place sounds dangerous then...
Hey Alison
I know he normally does it but normally the fence is where he is supposed to stop and not 2 miles away
Come see us tomorrow, check it out yourself. I'm over the duck pictures at the moment. Nick took me to see real ducks :D
but... I don't want to :( I would rather just be normal
Someone will post pics tomorrow. You haven't seen a duck like the one Bing had a couple of days ago. I bet it would instantly be your favourite duck ever
hey Alison! So you won't laugh at my burnt face then?
Get 27 consecutive spray tans so that the spray tan acts as a UV filter
Happy birthday Amy
it was awesome.....
but... i want to look normal too...
And I even saved the picture just to be considerate and now I don't get to see your two tone face
I won't exaggerate, my "burn" wasn't that extreme. It's almost faded now. There won't be laughing at my end. There's no accounting for Nick though..... :P
You are just awkward. How about having an alarm that goes off every 5 nibutes to tell you to use more sunscreen
oh :( i'm just pleased Lukeh isn't coming, cause he'd probably laugh too...
I want a clock that works in nibutes!!
i may have to do that... lol i never used to be so sensitive towards sunlight :(
Yeah but then you'll look like a damn Oompa Loompa...
have you tried a suncream with a protection factor of 50 or more?
If your face isn't totally embarassing I don't want pictures then. Don't click this link if you don't want to see the cutest duck ever. You will want one of these so don't click.
http://drop.io/sidepodradio/asset/bing-duck-png
Thank you boys and girls :) now back to work for me!
Nibutes are the future
i did on holiday (got burnt in the shade).. i didn't yesterday cause i figured i'd be okay
Awwwwwww!! Nick took me to see this very duck I think!! Property of her majesty :D
Right - I'm going to disappear until tomorrow folks.
Good night and have fun
:)
Helloooooooo Sidepodworld!
Happy Birthday Amy!
It appears Nick is one step ahead of Steven....
i really want one.. it looks like it's been painted. plus they don't look that big either..
Byyyyyye Leigh
Hellllllooo Jon
You realise you just told Lou those ducks live in London. Lukeh is going to get dragged to see them on their next visit
words I never thought I'd hear... ;)
Night Leigh
It is a sad, sad day
night!
hey
Couple of LMS questions if anyone watched it...
1. If Pug hadn't had the problem did they have the race pace to challenge Audi?
2. What happened to Mansells to make them so far down?
But bigger than number 3
http://www.buzzfeed.com/expresident/10-animals-in-teacups
Missed the race
#2 Presumably he let his slow sons drive
wait.. seriously? that's brilliant! I'm going to London tomorrow!.. and maybe wedesday..
as much as i hope that is hte answer (trust me, i really do) they finished very far down so i assume there was a problem
but they are only ducklings.. the Bing duck looks like an adult duck.. so it's probably pretty small :)
mmm... then you must be really sensitive to sun :-(
I have a friend that uses factor 50 every time she gets into the sun, and puts new suncream every 3 hours, and wears a big hat (and still manage to look good ;-) ). And I thought she was sensitive...
1. Peugeot were off Audi's pace most the race.
2. Alternator problem.
i used to be absolutely fine.. i think i have spent too much time inside. to be fair i think alot of yesterday was probably due to the wind too.. *shakes fist at outside*
I went outside once. The roof was leaking.
:)
awesome! thank you!
outside is good in some places. the problem is that you live surrounded by the wrong outside ;-)
:D hehehe on the plus side at least when i go back to school people are gonna think that i went on holiday rather than being at home inside :P
:D
heheh :)
Well, I MUST go away and stop lurking, seeing races in second monitors and checking twitter or I won't finish my work for tomorrow. I'll have a heavy week at work, so I guess I'll see you for the China GP
(and hopefully I'll have good news about me, Spa, and a new camera... :-) ).
Bye!
Night Guille
Steven, did you send me a DM on Twitter? I'm not sure if it is genuine (it may be)
a new camera???!!!!!!
see ya!
Night mate.
Spa?!
Night :)
Spa and a new camera??!!!!
It has come the time when I have to decide to enter the digital world. If everything goes according to the plan I'll be the happy owner of a Canon 5D MII by the end of the year. I just need to think the 'how'...
I got an invite to an F1 community thing which I have joined and it asks about a list of other people you would be interested in so I clicked you and others from the list and it sends out a DM which I didn't realise. Looks like it could be an interesting set up
wow!!!
Aha, I wasn't sure if it was a genuine thing or a spam thing. I'll take a look, thanks.
I only followed the LMS from about half-way but Peugeot lap-times were not much better than the petrol cars with the occasional lap close to Audi's pace. They made up a couple of places late on when others had problems. It is like they gave up.
I got my invite from ladyofsalzburg and there are a few familiar names in there
there is a chance that I'll be in Europe for a conference starting the 31st of August. If I can arrange some previous travel plan, I'll be there :D
Worth noting it is ORECA rather than Peugeot Sport. ORECA aren't a bad team but they aren't the works team.
I'll also be considerably poorer than before, though... :P
Let's hope it works out
yeap.
Now I'm seriously off. Have a nice week!
*sigh* photography is an expensive hobby :(
Sta travel have sent me a $50 travel voucher so they must want me to go to malaysia too. So if they can beat any fare I find online I will be a happy chappy. Now, where is that 2011 calendar?
wow!! what a nice pressie for you
It expires in 6 months though so I hope we have dates by October!
you should go to another race this year! ;)
Can you book it then reschedule it, or will they charge a fee?
Japan
yes!!! Japan is awesome!!!!
I was pondering japan because one of the airlines had a 2 fares for the price of one sale but the dates didnt match up with the race. Its on my list though!
Japan is in my top 3 places i want to visit :)
I am visiting all of my top 3 this year so I will need a new top 3 soon.
you're visiting my top 3 too!
to be fair you live in one of them...
that should have been 2 of my top 3 but you'll probably get to Japan before i do so that counts too :P
Not sure if this has been covered but the Fantasy IRL has been updated. I am doing well which is good as I am stinking at the F1 and WRC competitions.
Since the 1st race, I'm doing a fantastic job of going downhill.
I forgot about Fr after watching the race. I had a very bad race
A chance to own a piece of the 2009 Championship: http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-usf1-trucks-seized-and-put-up-for-sale/ USF1 haulers seized and put up for sale. Previously owned by Brawn and still in JB livery. Another sad part of the USF1 failure but nonetheless interesting.
Shh, Lou's almost got her chequebook out already!
