There was little in the way of F1 news yesterday, and by little I mean absolutely nothing. Hence there was no F1 Minute either, which is annoying, because I do like doing those 60 second snippets. Anyway, here are some of the things that did happen yesterday and we are therefore still talking about:
- We completed our first Sidepodfilmclub live commenting experiment yesterday and it was loads of fun. I don't know what it'd be like to catch up with the film comments after the movie has ended, but if you want to, the thread will live on here. Don't worry if you missed it, we will definitely be doing another one soon.
- We suddenly got excited about F1 drivers on Twitter, although there have been a few of them tweeting for a while now. With the arrival of Vettel, it suddenly seemed like this might actually take off. We blogged it, naturally, but we'd also love to hear your thoughts on drivers and their microblogging habits.
- As it's such a quiet weekend, if you're at a loose end, check out a new page on the wiki: Rural Racer. It's not a great game, and I only really say that because I am useless at it, but I'd love to know what you think of playing games on the wiki, and keeping track of how well you're doing within the page. If I can find more racing games that are available to embed, I'll pop them in there too.
That should do it for now. Here at Sidepodcast Towers, we're working on behind the scenes bits and pieces today, which is always fun. I'll see you in the comments.
Hello tomorrow
Today i need to take a photo of some lucky charms, and make a regulars page on the wiki...
But hello sunday, hope you are sunny!
Is it environmentally friendly for us to be throwing away perfectly good days so often?
Today I intend to tidy up my bloggy notes on Hungary and hopefully Valencia, in the hope of getting caught up before Monza.
so it turns out I feel a little sleepy when I stand up. Perhaps I'll just have to sit in my chair all day :D
Do something to get yourself going again...
Like go for a swim? or you could run down bat......
okay, time for me to get some sleep i think. i'm shattered. night everyone! x
I went outside for 30 seconds to check if the duvet I washed yesterday is dry yet (it's not) and that is as outside as things are going to get today :D
Night Lou
night lou!
G'night
For the hell of it I just did an AA routemap from here to Francorchamps in Belgium. 8 hours. I had no idea it was on a very similar latitude to here, thought it was over the channel then head north for a bit...
Night.
Hmmmm, I wonder if Christine would like to purchase a Marmot?
night!
Better safe than sorry i guess ;)
I haven't checked my followers for ages mainly because I haven't used twitter in weeks. I am being followed by James T. Kirk. Beat that Vettel
Do you think she'll be allowed ;-)
she's not...
Well, it is either purchase the Marmot or this particular version of Marmot might become extinct. Not that mr. C has other stuff to worry about on his rap sheet (killing Ringo Starr and the Video Star... for example)...
I'm surprised to find it is only 12.38. thought it was far later. this makes me happy
Best go to bed, beginning to sober up. Alcohol will be gone by 07:00 hrs so will see you all after then. Goodnight all.
night janna.
Night
Night Janna
Night. I'm considering whether to finish this bottle.
Captain obvious frowns...
:P
hahah :-)
One glass contains 1/3rd of a wine bottle. There is 1/3rd of a wine bottle remaining. hmm!
i just poured another.
Are you trying to say you need another bottle?
I might be. Is one bottle of wine preceded by 1 x Carlsberg and 1 x bitter not too much?
I don't feel drunk, just merry
I am going to die of alcohol poisoning in Belgium
Shocker, final amount of wine does not add up to full glass, just shy
For the following morning...
Beer before wine... Everythings fine
Wine before Beer, you may feel weird
you have time to practice.
but I cannot afford to practice!
This makes sense. I probably shouldn't finish with a beer then.
And there will be expert teachers on hand... :D
ahhh.
Nah you'll be fine. I'm sure Bassano will train you well when you stay in London beforehand.
Where I come from that makes you a total lightweight
good
I wasnt going to mention that my mad architect friend used to drink 2 pints of wine before we went out at uni...
Just saw a scary pic of the 'computer said no' lady from Little Britain with Bernie's face, on the drop...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-26
My 90-degree oriented alchohol
Well if you have the pint pot ready it would be rude not to....
well this is it

on the wall behind me, birthday prezzie from last yr
Hello all
Hi Joe
Hi Joe
Steven, you'd appreciate this, I attended my first MLB game last night. Didn't turn out so well, but it was fun
Looks like you picked the wrong night. Your team are winning tonight
I think you're going to have to.
Yeah, I'm watching now. It was a close game and Tropicana Feild is very nice. Had lots of beer and now I'm having more to try and feel human again
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/78339
Rossi has the donkey from shrek on his helmet his weekend??
So
unds like you enjoyed the experience even if the game didn't go your way
I remember tropicana field from the world series last year... awesome name!
Apparently he called himself a 'silly donkey' (sanitised) after he fell off at indianapolis over the radio
I did, stayed on St. Pete beach, drank lots of beer. Hoping to take in a couple more games, one against the Yankees. Tonight the Beach Boys have a concert after the game
The Trop is great. And the Rays tank, a large shallow tank with Rays swimming around
I have always liked people who stick with a helmet design but Rossi is an exception. He has the most unbelievable designs. The one mentioned in the item that he used last year had his grinning face on the top. So when he he was head down anyone in front of him looked over their shoulder and instead of seeing his helmet saw his face grinning at them. It looked so weird on camera
I've been to St Pete Beach, lovely place. Is the baseball ground nearby? The concert after sounds fun.
For some reason it never occurred to me that there would be rays there
It was about a 20 minute taxi ride from the beach. Did that because I knew there'd be lots of beer
You can go up to the tank and touch the rays as they swim by. I seen a few times that home runs have landed in the tank. It's just beyond center/left feild.
I hate rays!
Given the choice of swimming with a ray or a shark, i would take the shark!
Rossi and his grinning helmet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Prx8ppLIxQ0
:D
Not nearly as much as I hate alligators.
Do you live in/near St Pete?
No, about an hour and a half south. But I'm a big Rays fan and I really like St. Pete Beach.
Its mainly because i saw somone get stung as a child and i have been traumatised ever since...
Yeah, we get alot of people stung by rays on Sanibel, it's very painful. Always shuffle your feet when you are wading in the surf.
I went in '97 with the family, was only 17. Can't remember the name of the place we stayed. Not far away they had a great little mini-golf... we went down to Fort de Soto and got badly sunburned
oops. picked up wrong comment on the quote..
It's a rite of passage to have you skin peeling off like a snake.
:-D we definitely did that :-)D
Now you had to go to Busch Gardens, right?
When i used to go scuba diving, there was a ray with a 4 metre tail by the reck we were on. My instructor was petting it and swimming after it... he turned around and i was literally hiding in the wheel house of the reck
Of course. And up to Orlando for a few days to do Disney and Universal.
I love seeing the rays break the surface, it's a rarity but very cool.
Just saw a tweet from Leo. TWiT live is audio only because he screwed up the feeds. Even the best have disasters so everyone else is allowed a few mistakes
Did the whole Florida thing....good for you.
I wish we'd done NASA and Daytona as well! I'll have to go back.
In the same vacation, we did the NASA thing and Daytona, but this was before any space shuttles....I think this was in the early 70's.
phew :)
Cool.
In my head I'm half-thinking of doing the Chicago IRL race, hopefully MotoGP if it is on the same weekend again... Too expensive though but I want to do it, and dovetail a visit to NASA into the equation..
For the next couple of mistakes you make you can trot that out and no-on can criticise
hehe!
I think my resources are going to be put into Spa instead though..
i guess the thing was leo, is he doesn't make the same mistake twice. whereas our server dies frequently.
I wouldnt go to NASA... the weather will be poor.
So this Spa thing is really happening? I thought it was late night/early morning drunk Sipepodcasting. I'll do Montreal and really try for Spa
would be great to go for a launch but it would be pot luck really
I think so! It might be some elaborate sidepodjoke. If it is happening I intend to be there.
It is now on my radar screen
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-28
Tried to get a better pic of my former Grolsch bottle wine glass, pressie from my sister. Didn't pic up the light well enough perhaps.
Doesn't help I have dimmed lights in the evening to help relax. Don't like the harsh main light.
Excellent! Hope to see ya there.
Have we researched the ticket price for Spa?
If you had his resources it wouldn't
I have now consumed one bottle of red wine tonight.
Its not even on the calendar yet!
also a fair point.
Thats awesome... I want to make one!
They sell them... somewhere
Not as much fun!
Gone for another beer. Sorta wish I had a JD & Coke...
If we are taking cars to Spa, I volunteer mine.
Loud guitars.. give it a chance after the intro... not to everyone's taste I know, but I (heart) it and wish I was there :-)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3UZ72_Z2J0
good night..
Good night
i may have killed my laptop quite badly.
Leo screwed up the feeds so everyone is allowed a mistake. So what did you do?
#sidepodspace
The third and final spacewalk of the shutte mission finished after 7 hours and 1 minute. Everything scheduled was accomplished apart from a connector problem with some avionics cables which are being installed to attach to the next section of the ISS which will arrive early next year. The connector refused to connect so has been left dangling for a future mission to deal with.
i have no copy/paste or drag/drop :(
How is that possible? I assume you have re-booted
was trying to install software called memcached, which will be used to make sidepodcast faster (eventually), it did't work. linux is simple, leopard really not.
now i have no copy/paste and the dektop is essentially locked :(
I guess you need Andy or maybe Jeremy
i shall leave for morning.
i have learnt this evening that mac's aren't brilliant at everything :)
My illusions are shattered
:D
I am still awake... and sidepodisaster!
No panic button on macs?
hehe. there's an off button, so i'm gonna press it. catch y'all tomorrow.
Night... i should probably do the same, starting long films in the middle of the night is a bad idea... !
Looks like no-one on this site sleeps at normal times.
I was only staying up for the spacewalk so now that it is finished so am I. With luck I will be awake enough to atch the Moto GP at noon-ish
Morning all :D
Okay, everyone sing:
"Mr. C killed his lap-top today....."
Morning Jon... You're up early!
So today for me is Sidepodradio day... I am away next weekend so today is the last chance for me to actually finish my show...
Hey Alex, What is your show going to be about?
My show is called Radio Giggles. It will be four half hour shows of music and chat. But more chat than music... Because I am a loser swot I did actually finish my Radio Giggles shows in time for the last time the Sidepodradio was scheduled. To punish me they released them on the site so now I have to make 4 more...
You can see my previous attempt over here (working from the bottom up):
http://www.sidepodcast.com/tag/giggles/
Just downloading Mr C's song for the show...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/mr-c-rocks-mp3
It's good but it's quite... short!

I read that as a 'Four and a half hour show' at first. Eeek. Sounds fun. I shall definitely check out your previous attempts.
No it's 2 hours in total... but shhh don't tell anyone they weren't quite half an hour long each either!
Ooops I got the quoting all wrong again... How did that happen.
I'm really not sure... What did you do?
If you are using the doohicky you should just have to click on the text you are quoting
Yeh I think I clicked on the wrong text... and then tried to correct, but obviously messed it up. This should work though
It did. w00t!
Trying to find new headphones this morning... but can't decide what I'd like.
Morning peoples!
What have people got in store for today?
Yo, still in Cyprus. Still got at least another 1 hour and 15 min wait for the coach. Grr.
A long flight and looking at the entertainment for inflight stuff, it aint promising.
Oh dear RG, do you have a good supply of podcasts?
Gosh it's quiet this morning... Everyone must have been tired out from the movie watching last night!
I am here but with nothing to say :D
Likewise :)
How did the movie thing go? I was lazy, and just watched it last night my time.
got a bit confusing with people watching different edits of the movie but it was fun!
:D didnt think there would be different edits of that one.
Never seen the movie before - loved the accent on the little kids
Morning all
Hi Jon
Howdy, how are ya?
Good. Been at the world MTB championships - crazy stuff
Christine has an affinity with the wee one :D
Morning all,
Hope you enjoyed the film club - We had a nice, typically Danish evening that started out as 50 people in a small farm house eating the rent (a freshly spit roasted pig) and lots of Danish food, speeches and then the strong alcohol broke out and it got a bit wild... lots of dancing and I think I sang Roxanne at some point!
Aw no way!! Downhill/4X etc??
Hehe. Love to see he try the accent
Downhill today, and trials. Trials is completely nuts. The downhill was pretty wild too
Awesome!! I love that stuff, would love to do it but dont have the balls that some of those guys have, its insane!!
It is insane. I tried to ride down the downhill course a while back. My bike doesnt have enough suspension for a start, but I can't go fast enough for the corse!
It's incredible the speed then can carry through the corners, and how quickly they can change direction.
My girlfriends grandparents live near fort william, so im trying to convinvce her we need to go visit them so i can ride the downhill course
You need a serious bike.
Sounds suspicious to me ;)
aha yeah, i'd hire one. I may just try and do the 4x track instead....its less, ya know...life threatening
Morning alex, btw last night i hadnt just got up....i'd just got home :D
Brits did well at the MTBs. Won the mens downhill, and the womens short cource cross country - this girl called somebody Last
hehe. I did the 4X track, and almost crashed onyly twice. I went over a jump and landed on my front wheel for about 15 meters
We always do well at cycling, i have no idea why but in recent years we've got very good at it
ouch
BMX on steroids!
Ah!
And now i wake, 6 hours sleep is officially not enough
:D
No! What were you doing?
Hello all.
Muse in Teignmouth, Devon. Gig finished at 11, i got a coach at 11.30 which dropped me in london at 4 and then a car took me home, got in at about 5.30
Mooorning
Hi Christine, I trust the movie evening went well?
Morning!
Ouch!
Gig good?
I enjoyed it. I haven't caught up with comments yet to see what other people though.
*thought.
Mind blowingly good, lots of people saying it was the best they've played.....not bad for my first outdoor gig ;)
Cool. I ended up having to watch it at a more reasonable hour
Morning :)
What did ya watch?
Ah. Did you like it?
Morning
"The" movie
what's unreasonable about 5am? :D
ignore me, im still asleeep
The kids were hilarious
I got home at 5am....would you like A LIST?
There's a 5 am ?
Yes... It's when I get up during the week!
Morning everyone, just made it :)
Half the world (well, Exeter anyway) seemed to be at that Muse gig!
Half the world? There was only 10,000 there ;)
Morning.
Hmmm. The other half must have been at the Worlds then.
ahaha :D
Well, half of Exeters young people anyway!
i should have moved to Exeter lol :)
How was the hill climbing yesterday Neil?
Ew young people - scary
I agree, young people are scary, what is odd though is I went to college with those guys, and now they are trendy with people 10 years younger!
Hill climbing was great thanks, have put some photos and bits on my blog
Did you drive?
No Paul, did not drive, but my friend Steve was, he came top of his class for that day in his Impreza.
Fantastic. I haven't had a go at a hillclimb yet
I would love to give it a go one day, my current car is not up to it, and my bank balance is not up to getting a decent car for the job! Perhaps one day, pipe dreams!
Thats a great blog you've got there neil!
For anyone who has ever paid attention to the Sidepodcast iTunes iMix, I have had to redo it and the link has changed.
The Music page has more info about which songs are in there.
Thanks Jon, it's all experimental, I can never hope the the blog greatness of some of the guys here!
New blog post: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/09/06/sidepodradio-lukehs-lunch-time-comedy-show/
hehehe i hear lukeh
*heart
Good morning. Um. Afternoon.
Afternoon
And you were able to be up at 12.20 your time? If I'm ever drunk enough to sing I am usually extremely ill for at least the next 24 hours.
Hey Jon
Wow, how good was it??
It was AMAZING, words cannae describe it
Ah you answered already :-)
Good to hear it. It'll be on Radio 1 tomorrow night so I hope to remember to listen to it then.
:-) :-)
Afternoon all
Webber was just interviewd at the Moto GP
Did he say anything exciting?
Not really. It was pretty much the same interview DC gave the last time he was at Moto GP. Love the two wheel stuff. Respect the guys who do it. Would love to see Rossi in F1 but don't think it will happen.
Moto GP race about to start. They are on the warm up lap
For the Talladega Nights people last night.. some real NASCAR:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRPSR9h1xlU
watch it all if you can, for the multiple camera angles and sponsors etc..
Afternoon guys, just recovering from the night before. I trust everyone is well? :)
Hi Scott. I think a lot of people seem to be recovering..
I'm going to tidy the flat a bit.
Slightly worried for my arteries after cleaning that grill...
Just think, whatever's coming off it is inside you. Urgh...
Urgh... I've just spent two hours attempting something that isn't going to work for Sidepodradio. Drat!
That's a point, I should really start doing some recording for my show. I think though that someone else will have to record. One of my mates called me on skype to check if his was still working and after about 30 seconds or so the call dropped. Bugger :(
Still, a guest post shall be on its way. :)
:(
I think my brain is a bit tired so creativity may not be the thing for me today. Which is a bit of a problem given this is only of the only chances I have... Hmmmmmmm....
Maybe I should watch The balad of ricky bobby?
It is good inspiration I think.
Okay you're on!
You still want to do the show or would you prefer to do it solo?
I have had an idea for commenting...
You know how Alia always links a quote back to the original comment? I really like that because often you forget where the quote came from and it's nice to read back...
Could it be possible that if something is quoted in a posted comment, somebody else can click on that quote and it will open a link to the original comment in a new window?
Morning Everyone:
Still doing this trip to Spa, eh? There's like 50 000 Marmots in Canada screaming to have Christine come to Montreal.... Boy, they are going to be disappointed !
Rossi won and got inside Lorenzo's head again
That must be an illegal tactic
but think of the lovely food in Belgium ;)
Awesome.
Any sympathy I had for Badoer just left the building. The guy clearly has lost his grip on reality.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78383
Pedrosa donated second to Lorenzo because Lorenzo had no clue how to get past him.
Of course, we'll just have to find a way of recording it. I'll have to Skype via iPhone though.
its never going to work.
That's weak Lou. Just go to a variety store in Canada, buy some Mayo, have French Fries at any restaurant and dip the Fries in the mayo. Voila! Beligum Food! in Montreal.
Guest post is written and sent :)
Waffle
Or better yet here in the UK, McCains oven chips and Hellmans' ;)
The DTM race sounds like a demolition derby. The safety car seems to be back on as soon as it is off
At least Dank got to go ... he was worried on Friday because his tickets hadn't arrived!
haha that's what i was thinking ;) waffles.. and Spa :D
Is it raining at Brands or have Plato and Matt Neal been training the DTM drivers?
and chocolate!
I have been following his tweets. Looks like diResta is going to win. He quickly built a two second lead after the safety car then more Audis crashed causing another safety car
i nearly forgot about the Chocolate! :)
Belgium Waffles can be easily made too. Two slices of waffle between the ice cream of your choice. Choclate syrup and whipped cream. The Cherry can be removed if you are on a diet....
Amy, can you throw over the PS3 controller charger thingy? I have lost mine and it has no battery :( I'm sure you can reach if you try hard enough
done. did you catch it?
Are you insane? How can you forget about Belgian chocolate?
i dunno.. i blame it on the waffles...
I didn't :( I am doomed!! Doomed I tells ya
Belgian Beer? I ain't drinking Labatts or Molsons!
Hello everyone!
What a wondefull day!
Paul di Resta won the DTM race at Brands
aha! I found it. Good throw Amy :P
What a ...!
:D I won't need it back for a while, mine is fully charged
Amy is awake?
She really must be BORG
its still early!
have you not slept at all?
I slept from 1-5
ah okay, so you have had some sleep :)
good afternoon everyone from sunny but cloudy yorkshire
has anyone heard from nikki recently, like in the last week or so?
Awesome, I wonder if he followed our expert commentary?
Nor you should have either Labatts or Molsons. Labatts is Belgium beer (Interbrew owns it) and Molson's is effectivity owned by Coors...!
You want real Canadian Beer, try Moosehead or Rickhard's. Then there are the local brewery stuff.
Well I am awake ... Had a fry-up and a Red Bull!
*cheater :P
I tried to stay awake so I could go to bed at 9ish and just sleep all night, but it didn't work :D
Interesting flavour combination!
Steam Whistle is good too!
Seems to have worked ;)
Red Bull is a good shout. I've got some in the fridge, maybe I should partake
I haven't seen her around
Hi anyone who arrived while I was doing other stuff.
I don't think so
I need to go get food from the shop which has lucky charms.
If they don't sell them anymore there will be trouble!
w00t! mac is fixed again.
hi all.
Whoop Whoop!
According to twitter she is on a long weekend. I will DM her to get in touch
cut and paste!
hello!
please explain what fixed it
I thought macs didn't break ... or was Red Wine involved?
Last night's music was a laptop with external hard drive plugged into an amp and big speakers ... sounded great!
Have you been working on it all night?
I was about to ask how you know of Stream Whistle as it is a local brewery but I realized that you are looking at my facebook profile that says I am a fan of Steam Whistle.....
...Proudly supporting my local brewery.....
nope, slept on it and figured it out in me sleep.
I guess you haven't seen his comment from early this morning that he had badly killed his laptop
i ended up removing /tmp directory. i think because i thought i'd created it in the first place.
recreating said folder brought copy/paste and drag/drop back to life. i have no idea why though.
That is a good trick
cut and paste!cut and paste!cut and paste!cut and paste!
check!
Nope... some colleagues went to a trade show and visited the brewery and brought me back some pilsner, a glass and a bottle opener ;)
i broke it. however, macs do suck for web development. apple have done something funky with the unix internals, so nothing actually works as expected and none of the files are where i expect them to be.
also, apple is 64bit which confuses everything.
No I didn't. I don't always catch up on comments. Is the problem related to a particular species of the feline family that seems to live in cold places?
no. i just wanted to install a php library that'll help speed up sidepodcast comments. am going to do it using a linux virtual machine instead.
I know these words all mean something & are in English but it feels like a foreign language :-)
I consider myself good with IT (I seem to be the guy that fixes people's problems in the office) but you guys take it to a whole other level. I am in awe because I have no idea what you are on about!
Amy, I sent you a helpful message via Facebook... did you see it?
? or is that still not an option
hehe. it's quite boring, but in essence, the sidepodcast.com web server is running one set of software and my mac another.
i thought the mac could run the same software, but alas no.
using the external keyboard, yes. not lying in bed using the built in one.
I thought it was just me
I am the same.
We are the ones IT people think are dangerous, because we know enough to do real damage...
...Muhuahuauahahahahahahah :D
I did, thank you very much! I am rubbish at replying to Facebook messages, sorry!
I think it is very interesting actually ... perhaps sometimes you could make a breakout post explaining such issues and seeing if we can assist in any way?
NP and not necessary ... just wanted to make sure you had seen it ;)
You just inspired me to check my facebook.
Apparently i forgot someones birthday and i am in trouble.
This is why i dont check facebook
it's only because i'm editing the travels in sidepodland show for her, and not heard anything for a while.
i've sent her a pm on the wiki though.
i won't be around a pc pretty much until friday evening, and could miss the deadline time.
thank you steven.
Ahhh, the old roundhouse in Toronto. Makes sence as you can see if from the Convention Centre....I know the place far better than I should for my own good health....!
once it's working, i'll explain the architecture. it might be useful to other bloggers. for the moment, you just need to know that macs aren't perfect. and in this instance are annoyingly too far ahead of their time.
I think it's interesting too, I just don't understand tech speak. Maybe we could have alternative posts, one for the people who understand and one translated into normal words, a bit like the CBBC commentary on the races
Grrr.Shhhh.Grrrr
heheheheh... good plan.
But the Mac Vs. PC adverts say they are... don't tell me now that I can't believe everything I see in an advert! ;)
Apache?
I agree - perhaps we can learn it this way ... I deal with a very technical job and constantly have to have stuff explained to me so I can do my job better - but once I understand it, it really helps me do my part better!
yeah, but apache is different on the mac, because it's 64 bit apache. and located somewhere else, and i can seem to bind to the correct libraries.
all in all a bit of a waste of saturday, albeit an educational waste of time.
APACHE!
Any sympathy I had for Badoer just left the building. The guy clearly has lost his grip on reality. {Comment #249}
I believe the press coverage was a symptom, not a cause, of the problem in this instance. The press are supposed to report what they see and what they saw was not pretty.
It's not a waste of time if you learned something...
In World Rally news from Oz, I say 'Boo' to Citroens penalty which hands the win to Ford. I do however look forward to the remaining two rounds. This is going to be close folks!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78382
preview button? :-)
They were actually quite polite IMO... Us bloggers, well we ripped him to shreds!
If anything, I'd like to think that my analysis played a part in Fisi getting the drive, albeit a very very small one! :D
if anyone has printer/copier related questions though, i'll be happy to help. Web server related questions, i'll pretend, then come out with a half baked answer that'll baffle you.
Stupid. Let's exclude Citroen because Loeb is the only decent driver and we have to make it look like there's actually a fight for the championship!
well. yesterday i set out to make the site faster, and today i' doing exactly the same thing for exactly the same point.
:D
Using non-homologated parts is incredibly stupid. Especially something like an anti-roll bar
But if the glass is half full, we still have a working site and now you know how not to do it ;)
And we all appreciate everything you do to make our Sidepodexperience better :-D
Did you just cache Saturday? Is that why it's happening again?
Because if you did then you have made progress.
Quick Poll, is it too early to open a bottle of Thatchers Cider?
Uugh. For me, yes !
While I wasn't paying attention to the flat, little spiders have made it their home by making lots of cobwebs in places just out of me eyeline... thankfully Henry was feeling hungry
that would be progress!
I don't believe so
I think it would be okay.
You have to open it early so that the sun doesn't heat the bottle too much and cause it to explode. Open it for health and safety reasons.
That's true!
Good advice Steven! (despite the fact I own a fridge...)
I could of course wander over to the pub and have a pint while the sun is out, but I am not sure I fancy "outside" today!
HSE should always come first, of course!
Thanks guys, going to get the bottle opener now!
From @Britsonpole:
Next poll question: Are Kasabian the new Oasis?
Allegedly it's not good to drink alone... So I'm going to open a beer just so you're safe :)
their singer can't sing either?
A can of Red Bull helped my alertness a bit. As did going round the place with a vac.. I think that means lunch.
They think they are, but they aren't.
Yes, they are both rubbish.
Noel can sing when he wants to.
Doesn't 'Underdog' sound like a song Oasis should have made?
agreed. he's not the singer though.
Noel was awesome singing live. I don't think I'll ever see a better live performance than "Don't Look Back in Anger" with 20,000 people singing along!
I never liked the way Liam sang, but I put up with it because I always loved the songs.
My favourite Oasis performances are when it's just Noel & a guitar. No whining Liam and no over production.
A few of their songs do.
Then you will love to hear that Noel plans to go solo :D
He should have been. I always preferred the ones where was lead.
I know one Kasabian song and only because it was on F1 coverage. They're not "everywhere" like Oasis was. Not over here anyway.
I like that Mr C gets all this praise and encouragement for wrecking his laptop and spending an entire day achieving nothing.
Meanwhile, I've updated the music page, redone the SPC iMix, posted a guest blog, added a second game to the wiki, and put all the graphs in the qualifying posts for the season.
But, you know, well done Mr C for being ace. ;)
go Christine for being ace-er :D ;)
comment of the year? :D
Yeah but Christine, it's the effort that counts ;)
Agreed! I never liked his attitude and self-importance either. With Noel you can tell he doesn't take himself seriously and it was all a wind-up...
Wow. Should Mr. C. get you a glass of bitter lemon to drink? ;)
Christine, every day you are 5 Pints of awesome. My wife knows very little about what goes on here and even she recognises how much effort you guys put into the site! :)
:)
Awww!!!
Christine needs a hug ;)
That's because you got on and did it without commenting it? :-)
Don't talk about fridges. Those cause problems here
We know you're not as needy about praise and stuff ;-)
I luv you both equally. Now go and play in the sunshine.
Exactly. Liam was a ... but Noel has style! Even his press statement announcing leaving the band was class.
You are so considerate
exactly!
No not Acer. Their laptops go wrong.
Hehehe.
Afternoon :)
But their netbooks are, well... Ace!
*eye twitches*
Bad bad times with acer...
*looks at her laptop* tell me about it :(
Afternoon. Say something nice about Christine!
A mutual friend of ours had that Ferrari laptop. No end of trouble with it - and it's replacement.
Why waste your time doing that when you could have been helping him get back to square 1?
Afternoon
I think from this comment from Christine we can see that in the Oasis comparison... Christine is like Noel talented just gets on with it. Mr C is Liam all blah blah blah breaks things makes noise ;)
(That does sound quite harsh for Mr C... Maybe I should cancel this comm...ooops wrong button)
:D
a panda hug?..like this?
My father in law has one. What an oversized overblinged piece of W...!
Haha! Mr C doesn't whine so much though.
Did somebody mention wine?
Wubbish?
oh noes... this is the link...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/54017078@N00/261161351/
i preferred it when we were pinky and the brain :(
Awww...
Now Mr C needs a hug!
Haha yes ;)
there's a lot of love in the room.
Is he being hugged or mauled?
:)
Hold on...
...health and safety disaster...
...there is no beer in the fridge...
beer spillage?!
...I can't imagine running a beer fridge without beer in it is safe...
Germs! I'm outta here! See you tomorrow (my time).
Come to my house - I have about 60 beers!
oh - even worse than spillage!
Hehehe Christine is amazing! I would expand but I'm likely to give a non-complimentary compliment. I'm good at that.
hugged? ... i think..
Okay... see you in a few hours ;)
Night
See you Jeremy
Ah like Chris
night squire.
Night!
I better go and buy some... Live stream?
bye :)
Oh no Alex, A beer fridge without beer is, well, just a fridge :(
Haha, that's okay too. We need some more stuff for the wiki! :)
beer shopping? wow!
An unsafe fridge!
Lets see... on qik
Hey Christine, Bourdais is the weekend winner on his Superleague debut!
aw my internet sucks at showing live stuff, i just keep getting buffering.
http://qik.com/alexandronov
wha??
I got nuthin yet
You heard it here first... the facebook link just posted it!
cool.
he;s walking out the gate and up the road.
That's odd, mine is showing a pint glass.
press play?
Mine has a shot of Alex frozen in time
alex is getting a bit good at walking and talking :)
ah yeah good point, I thought it auto-played :-)
mega buffering
it is for me too, i see him climbing a big hill.
Seems a long way to go for a shop...
collared blue shirt on a weekend.. tch..
:D
That man is never without a collar.
a man needs beer though.
I see him frozen in time. This doesn't work too good on a dial up speed connection :(
he's reached the top of the hill and now on the same street as the shops.
I can see beer would be a driving force, I am just surprised there is not a nearer shop, or have I got used to the luxury of living in town?
barely works on 8mb adsl, the problem may be his upload speed
he lives in london, towns don't get much bigger, not sure why he's so far from shops though.
i see him reading comments now. "waves"
I can hear my conversation at work in the morning...
"What did you do at the weekend?"
"Oh, you know, watched a man walk to the shop, the usual."
actually, this may be an augmented reality demo.
who walks around with two phones? ;)
I see him holding up a phone to the other phone, can't see what's on the screen
Hmmm, London? Isn't that near Reading?
:P :P
a what? I saw a screen showing the street with boxes on it
it unpaused! I heard 'uh' and then it paused again :)
yeah that's it. the boxes tell you what stuff is near you.
like where the pubs and cafes are and which shop sells beer.
ah that's pretty cool!
Mr C, did you see my earlier comment about commenting? (that sounds awfully recursive!)
it knows where you are by GPS and which way you're facing by compass. it knows where stuff is from google.
he's in the shop!
and it froze with his hand on the Grolsch :-)
oooh, what beer is he going for? I can hardly contain my excitement!
we have beer!
He walked right past the tunnocks wafers, how could he?
Mine is too fragmented. I'm going to have to watch it again.
haven't looked back yet. i got excited by copy and paste.
what you're asking for is really tricky. i'll have a think, but i suspect the answer is no.
Me too Pat, I am downloading this cracker so I can watch it whenever I like.
Fair enough - was just a bright idea I guess...
ooh, i think he just bought the fridge?
Even though it jumps.. I can see he is moving between the beer and the chocolate...
it's a great idea, bloody hard in practice.
i kinda prefer when the comment just quotes the relevant bit tbh.
actually it could be replaying the same thing :-)
I have not actually really worked out how to quote properly at all, don't confuse me even more!
hehe. just click the bit you want to quote.
Erm I'm not going to answer the phone ever again. You've all gone mental?
It;s easy peasy, if you;re using the Doohickey or LCLT just click the comment you want to quote and whala!
Blimey!
w00t!
Too buffery so I'm watching his previous vid instead, where he's leaving the house... 3mins or so.
"Houston Control, Alex 11, mission accomplished. The Alex Has landed. We have beer, over"....
http://qik.com/alexandronov
hehe. i think he's just leaving the shop on mine.
:D :D
I saw a blue bag full of beer!
Afternoon all, i may or may not have fallen asleep on my bed....whoops. Are we having fun?
mmm, just watching alex walk back to his house.
Awesome
I learnt how to reply to a comment.
I'm editing my holiday photos from Mallorca and listening to music - INXS at the moment...
i think he bought grolsh and kitkat's but i'm not sure?
I'm editing race notes.
he bought proper beer? thats the second day in a row!!!
w00t
and locked himself out?
That's what Mr C said too.
I've never had to edit holiday photos; my editing consists of taking the really rubbish photos out of the group of rubbish ones that i take
and we have beer :)
yay alex.
hehe yeah i saw ;) quoting comments is very cool, i still get excited by it :D
Ooh, I am off there in a few weeks, did you have a good time?
You have beer, did you not get enough for the rest of us?
Okay... So... How to tell you this...
The beer isn't very far away... the BUFF..FFF.F.FFF....FFFFF....FFFF.F...FF.F.ERING is something rotten with this phone!
When I got home and stopped the stream you were watching me walking out of my house and the augmented reality video test hadn't even started...
I didn't like to comment as I felt that might ruin the experience.
yikes!
but yay :)
we have to watch it again now it's uploaded.
Am in need of a little sidepodadvice i think.. my friends are all badgering me to decide what i'm doing for my birthday now (it's over a month away!) so they can make sure they are free and stuff (which is nice :D ) however i've no idea what i should do... i want to do something special as it will be my 18th, and people have suggested going up to london, but i really really don't want to go shopping (which could be what we end up doing if i don't choose soon - loads of my friends love shopping in london)... so.... any ideas?
That's the first part out - then you have to tweak them, rotate them, make sure the color and contrast levels are good, crop the ones that need cropping, copy and reduce in size those which you want to upload, and then back them up ;)
Blimey!
How much sleep do you think someone needs to function properly? Would I die if I started doing bar work at night as well?
It was fantastic!
Um I think the entire process of buying the beer might have taken 9 minutes there and back.
Which part did you go to?
Have a kids themed birthday party?
oooh, bouncy castles!
Take it from me - you can deprive yourself as much sleep as you like and kid yourself that you are OK ... then one day you collapse at work at the drop of a hat, get taken home from hospital, take a week off for stress and then be worried for the next six months while the hospital runs numerous and unpleasant tests to make sure you are OK.
You don't really need the extra cash that much do you?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78394
Le Seb won super league in portugal and 100,000 euros
Alcudia - beautiful old town and loads of cool things to do!
haha that would be funny.. although maybe 4 friends would be up for it.. the rest would probably not get into the spirit of it... plus we had a strange fun day yesterday at school with bouncy castles, candy floss and everything... not many of us enjoyed it that much...
Told ya so ;)
i was thinking Kids games, knickerbockerglorys etc. its lots of fun
No. I've done it before and I made myself so knackered I had to leave uni. It would only be very short term though... Hmmmm maybe I could just do one night a week. You're right though, I do need to be careful.
I can't remember what I did for my 18th so it must have been great. Probably went to a pub since I was that last of my friends to legally be able to drink.
I went Go-Karting with my friends ... it was awesome!
Oh great, we are going to a resort in the South East of the island, as long as it is warm and sunny and I am not at work then I am happy!
Aleeeeeeeeeex wheres your blog post about this famous person *whines*
:D :P ;)
I had about 20-30 over, we had a bbq, it was drink free (because i hate being the sober one at a drunk party!) and played some odd games and just chatted, was very nice. it wasnt very special in what we did, but was good fun :)
see i'm one of the first to be able to legally drink.. so erm... that kinda thing may not be possible :(
It's also nice down there - if you can, there is a great dolphin show at Aqualand in Magalluf and nearby is an awesome waterslide theme park called "Western Park"
The whole island is only 50km long though and there are loads of buses so you can explore it good!
oooo! i like that idea... hmmm......
Have you watched the video he just recorded when he went to the shop?
do this
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78383
P.S Badoer blames YOU, yes YOU (kinda) for him leaving....
Ah yes... I'll work on that now :)
For my 18th I had a couple of meals with various bits of family (parents split up). Don't remember doing much with friends
You are not old enough to enjoy a bouncy castle yet
Why would you do that?
i want to do the water thing!
Mansell?
i have an awesome time with my friends all the time so i think a bbq and stuff at mine would be just as special.. but it's just what i normally do you see... so i'd like to do something different..
Because it was invented in NZ?
People are trying to make me do that for my 30th - I don't like heights or being out of control!
OMG! what on earth!...
:D :D :D :D
reminds me of this
my brother did that once. Getting out of the ball isn't very elegant
argh!!! ITS LIKE HE'S BEING BORN!!
Why is it full of water? Looks like a recipe for drowning??
That's what I thought! Is this your brother?
if it's full of water you stay upright.
To stop friction burns if you want to do it not tied up inside. The other option is to be tethered in!
the full sequence of photos is terrifying
Come on, we HAVE to see them now!
I just found out why Mr C had computer problems. It was because he was supposed to be in Spain this weekend.
http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?id=46796&PO=46796
I would not like this.... How do you get out if you're strapped in???
I've done a bungy jump but this looks horrific!
i know! i forgotted.
well next this happens and then you come out all wet
he's getting a street? I want to go there now. Perhaps I should add it to my Spain itinerary :D
awww its a boy, congratulationss ;)
You're doing this in 3 weeks? How much more are you planning on seeing??
I may have added an extra week and bumped it up to four ;)
Just saw on twitter that someone has a fake Steve Jobs blog. I am sure the fanboys will love it.
http://www.fakesteve.net/
Patronising Tip of the Day
Alex, just watched the end of your video, you need to tip the glass before pouring!
hooray now that I have watched that video I can say I have seen inside a London shop. Who needs to fly all that way now!
My guess is if Amy comes to Europe she will end up staying for 5 years
"a london shop"....they're not all the same ;)
I suppose I;d better be getting ready for this charity match!
I can get a 5 year visa thanks to my welsh grandad ;)
bah you've seen one you've seen them all. I've also seen inside the London Eye.
They let anyone come and live here now, didn't you know.... ;)
I don't want to mooooove! (yet)
let me suss the place out first. I had to add the fourth week because I wanted to spend more time in Spain ;)
it's not the inside of the London eye that's so amazing... it's the views....
Hah I'm only kidding. It's a commonly held belief that any old person can just rock up and get a visa here.... I'm sure it's not true. People just don't like the EU immigrations arrangements.
I can see them on youtube. Thats it, trip cancelled ;)
A lot of the convenience stores are!
You don't really seem them like that where I am..
haha I know. Immigration anywhere sucks if your country doesn't have some sort of agreement. Hence why I am in the only country I can go to, no questions asked :D
What's on the list of places?
well i suppose we need someone to be in the comments :P
just the typical "big" cities at the moment, so Paris for France and Rome for Italy, then Milan while I am there for Monza. I have to go to Zurich to see my friend, and I want to do Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia in Spain. I can't decide where I want to go in Germany so shall do more investigations/asking people for recommendations.
Tell me about it - I have been through the bloody process three times now. Awful stuff.
Denmark is very hypocritical on this - if you are from the EU, they can't stop you, but if you are Kiwi or Aussie, you can only stay a year (even if you marry a Dane) and my lovely and highly intelligent colleagues from Russia and Kazakhstan (married couple) have to jump through hoops because they actually want to buy a house and stay here! GRRR!!!
Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt. Apparently they are all good. They are on my to do list!
silly Germany being so big!
I wouldn't mind fitting in a trip to Monaco, but I don't mind if I don't make it, I'll be back one day...
very big list!
You know, have you considered moving to Europe for a year? I have lived here for two and visited 8 countries, because it's so cheap and easy to get around...
Finland? Wherever in Switzerland Federer and the twins live
I quite like the idea of moving to Denmark. Fortunately my British passport is useful in that department...
i may cry with jealousy.. you are planning on going to some of the places i would do anything to go to... like Rome, Paris, and Barcelona...
you'll love Valencia :) while your in Germany you should go to Berlin zoo, and see the Panda...
It's the reason I am here!
Munich is a great city. Never been to Berlin but it has to be good to
I have, but I can't justify the upheaval in my life it would be at this stage :)
I have been briefly to Hamburg, very industrial in places, but really interesting, spent more time in Bremen, which is a lovely old town.
You know, it sounds awful, but it's not that bad ... you just have to have an open mind!
I need time to do Finland so that is next time. Plus Gavin will kill me if I don't go to Denmark, and I have a friend in Norway, so it's looking like Euro 2: Nordic is going to be the sequel.
Not a vast amount to do in Bremen though... Although ubelievably cheap to fly to :)
I've already moved my entire life once, I'm not ready to do it again in the near future ;)
Hire a car and drive from Monza?
Just dump most of your stuff in storage and set off with a suitcase.... :D
Imagine meeting the love of your life and then having to spend a year, a lot of money, and a lot of time filling out forms, doing interviews and basically having to do a lot of stuff which is a great big invasion of all parts of your personal and private lives ... just to ensure that she can stay with you in NZ? Well, that's immigration for you!
I don't think I'll be able to hire cars while I'm there, I think you have to be 25 in most places and I'll be 24.
ah bummer
It is awful. A family friend of ours grew up in Ireland and married a Kiwi. He lives there now but I remember the fuss they went through.
I like doing not a lot (excellent Christmas markets though).
I have heard that they are cheap, but they don't fly from Bristol or Exeter airports, so I have only been into Hamburg and then across to Bremen from there.
Oh, and you can always drink Becks beer all day!
I went last year, and did it the other way round: flew to Bremen and travelled to Hamburg on land. I paid £2 return... and I really do mean £2. - Taxes, charges, the lot... All that came out of my credit card was £2
This was from manchester too, which is the easiest airport for me to get to. You can imagine how disappointed I was the other week when they decided to move all the flights away to cheaper airports :(
Immigration is very odd. One of my uni friends, her dad is Canadian and her mum's British. She was born in the UK but spent a lot of her childhood living in Canada. Now she's finished her degree and wants to move back to Canada and she's having awful trouble with immigration controls. You'd think people in that kind of situation would just be able to live in either place. Apparantly it's because she wasn't born in Canada.
hmm
To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. An International Drivers License is required for rentals in Italy.
The question is will I feel up to driving on the wrong side of the road in a strange country where the language is unfamiliar :D
lou, if your friends are up for traveling but you don't want to go to London you could always get the train to Brighton. Do something cultural like go round the Pavilion, then go for candy floss on the Palace Pier and end up at the Karaoke at the end of the pier.
I'm telling you, it's not the wrong side of the road aspect that's confusing. It's driving from the LH seat in the car.....
ahh yes. One of my dads friends had an old American car and I never felt right being a passenger on the drivers side :D
I'm off! Will let you guys know later tonight how the charity match goes :)
I just spend the whole journey punching the wall as I think I'm going for the gearstick.
Good luck mate!
Bye Lukeh!
Get satnav!
I might be willing to give up my 'I hate automatic cars and will never drive one' bias temporarily
Ciao!
good luck :)
Didn't know you were on. Good luck!
my phone has it, I love it. Sometimes I let it tell me how to get home from work :D
You will love Denmark! Everyone drives a manual here!
I can't imagine driving an automatic. I think that'd probably result in a lot of pointless punching as well.
Berlin is Good from what i hear, Munich is absloutly stunning.
All the other cities i went to were nice, but not all that special.
How are you planning on doing all of this? Euro rail pass or flights?
that is something I need to work out. I need to work out what order I am doing things too :D I have a loooong time to sort it out though, which I need to remember when I start stressing.
They are awesome, I have no idea why they are so unpopular in this country.
They are essential for 4x4 offroading though
You get used to it very quickly. It is much easier if you have someone in the ar with you because you tend to drift because your point of view has changed. Driving in towns or cities or on motorways it doesn't matter which side of the car you are on. It only matters on country roads when it is harder to overtake. I have driven every combination of which side the steering wheel is on and which side of the road you drive on and you adjust very quickly.
Bye Lukeh
It will cost a fortune in fees when you cross boarders, unless you have a lot of lugage or go in a group it probably isnt worthwhile.
Petrol also costs quite a bit more in Europe than Aus
I is travelling alone! My mother is worried.
Although the first thing she asked when I told her I was going to Spa with a bunch of F1 fans was "ARE THEY ALL MEN?"
That is not a bad idea if you can get an automatic hire car. Although changing gears right handed is not difficult. The thing I found really odd is that I am used to having a lump of metal next to my right arm and when it wasn't there I felt exposed on that side. At the same time my left side felt positively claustrophobic as I am used to having space there.
Was she worried or trying to marry you off?
perhaps a little of both!
If you are under 25 you should be able to get some kind of European young persons railcard that would save you a fortune
You can take hire cars on the European mainland to any EU country at no extra cost.
Of course!!! An Interrail card I think it is called!
to get one to go the countries I want to go to is about $650 AU. There are some journeys I'd rather make my plane though, so I need to investigate these budget carriers that Ross Brawn likes so much ;)
Really? I know you couldnt in 2006, there was a 90 Euro charge.
That sounds familiar. I don't know how the eligibilty works. Do you need to be an EU citizen or can foreigners get them?
It depends on your hire firm. I've taken one over the border without a fee though. You get most of the fees if you want to drop it off in a different country to the one you picked it up in....
the one I was looking at you can't get as an EU citizen, it's only available to dirty outsiders :D
Be aware the airports they fly to airports whcih are nowhere near the cities they are named after.
One of the london airports is over 100km from the city
You can get cheap flights but you lose so much time hanging around airports at both ends and getting into cities.
Try Ryanair and Easy Jet for starters
Ah yes, that was what i was thinking of
Really. I had a hire car in France way before that and we took it everywhere as soon as we read the paperwork that came with it. Mind you the company hired that so maybe they just ticked all the boxes. The thing is there is nothing except a road sign to tell you that you have crossed a border so no-one would ever know unless you crash it.
WHAT?
thats the problem with budget carriers - sometimes the airports are nowhere near the places they say they are. At least the trains generally take you right into the middle.
I like sleeper trains as well, it means you don't waste a night sleeping and then a day travelling.
I meant dropping it off, we were trying to rent a car in germany and drive it back to calais, but it wasnt realy feasible with the charges
You should look at the TGV in France which is the high speed train and look at ICE trains in Europe to. I think it is Inter City Express but I am not sure. They cross several countries so you can get on one in Belium and get off in Swaziland or something
The Interrail pass is only available to European residents, the Eurail pass is for the rest of us
Train of the unwashed?
There is one that goes over night from Brussels to Berlin so I thought that might be a good starting point after Spa.
I don't know of any charges going from country to country in the EU, other than the normal toll road charges. As Steven said there is normally just a sign saying you are now in France or wherever.
It works in this country as well?
Thats insane. First the channel tunnel and now the EU are issuing tickets...
Errrm yeah I was just looking at that. One month's unlimited travel all over Europe costs less than a month's season ticket on my line.....
It is not permitted to purchase a pass for travel within your own country of residence
BOOOO :(
the problem is when the "unlimited" travel doesn't include the company you want to travel with, plus the extra fees for reservation charges and the extra cost for overnighters. Stupid extra fees, they're as bad as airlines.
Why is that not a surprise?
Only in Brussels... (and strasbourg for 48 days of the year)
Dont tell UKIP!
You can't have every stray Kiwi you meat travelling round Europe on your ticket
If you know someone with an adress elsewhere in europe you could probably get it to work...
She is going to chop them up?
You never know, they might meet a nice Scottish bloke and take him back to Australia!
Just realised i havent been using smiley's.
Please feel free to read back and associate them where appropriate.
Comments aren't the same without the little yellow balls of happiness :)
No they aren't. The interrail site says it was set up by train operating companies, not the EU.
Are there not enough of us there already?
I blame the French. I believe that is the standard xenophobic comment that is required at this time.
You can never have enough Scots!
cheese eating surrender monkeys!
Hmmm you've made me really tempted to Interrail around Italy this summer.... I hate you all. You're going to bankrupt me.
I guess if I really work on my language, I could work over there.
don't let language stop you, all my Spanish friends live in Ireland and barely speak any English ;)
Do they speak irish? :P
True
you could teach english in a school. you don't need to know much of the language to do that... only English.. ;)
Are you planning on a career as a gypsy or something? That is a lot of travelling for one year. If you can finance it though you should do it
My Italian is passable. I did A Level a few years ago. It'd probably stand up to waitressing or the like.
That's what my sister and her bloke are doing! He's just started as a teacher in an expat school and she's halfway through an intensive 2 week course.
:D They all work in Spanish restaurants so never quite bothered with the English. What little they knew they would forget after a few drinks, but after a few drinks my Spanish improved remarkably as I lost my inhibitions about speaking to natives :D
Aha, it has worked.
Me Verry expensive Lucky Charms!
A bargain at £6.59
You can always get work in Irish bar without the language. When I lived in Paris the vast majority of people in those barely spoke French and I spent a lot of time translating for them even though my French is far from fluent. Don't worry at all about language. Once you are working in it you will almost instantly pick up the bits you really need and once you are speaking it on a daily basis you will be shocked how much you know.
If you are going to do anything build vocabulary. Don't worry about learning 99 verb tenses as people know you are a foreigner and if you have present tense and some arm waving you can do past and future.
You will have to work had on your british accent before you come over... You will need a lot of stamina to keep it up enough so everyone can understand you :P
If you have A level you could easily do waitressing or the like
I came over to Denmark with zero Danish - I found a job where I work in English and they paid for Danish lessons ;)
talking like a Brit for a month, my poor jaw muscles ;)
That is the hardest part. Once you decide that you don't care if you say something stupid and you don't try and rehearse everything before you say it, it becomes much easier. You also have to stop translating into English both ways. Just think in Italian. I know that sounds like a huge step but you can do it. I don't mean you can learn it I mean you can already do it.
Do a Scottish accent. It takes no effort at all. I know 3 year olds who can do it
I'm having awfully bad crisp cravings so I'm gonna go buy some, settle myself down with a film or something i think.
I was with my Swiss friend the moment she suddenly realised her inner monologue was now in English instead of Swiss German. Freaked her right out!
The one thing she never got quite right was "what are you doing?" she would always say "what are you making?" because 'machen' translates as both.
As far as I can see making and doing are the same word in most languages. I decided one day while I was reading Auto Hebdo the French equivalent of Autosport that I was just going to read the French and not translate as I went. To start with I had to read things twice mainly because I didn't understand a lot of the technical terms. 5 years of French at school and never once used the words for camshaft, clutch or exhaust.
After a couple of days I was reading things once in french and understanding it. Then one day I sat down and read two pages of technical stuff in one go. It was so easy I couldn't believe it. I sat there so proud of my progress then I realised it was in English.
d'oh!
It's still a foreign language for me
Hahahaha I'm sorry but I'm not letting you away with that one....
I had 7 years of it at school. I still find it very difficult. I get better with alcohol though
I only had 1 year of German though and its almost as good as my French
I am still nowhere near the level of being able to think in another language. I have always wanted to learn arabic, but it doesnt look like it is going to happen,.
I thought I couldn't think in a foreign language but just decided to try it and it was so much easier than I thought.
Ahhh, that's not much cheaper than ours.
Boo.
the love I have for the Spanish language is one of the reasons I want to spend more time in Spain than anywhere else. I want to use it as much as I can while I'm there.
With Danish, I read a sentence, translate the words I know and I get the point of it even if I can't understand the whole thing. If I am still unsure I check out the story in English to confirm...
:-) :-)
Come and work for us - there are so many Spanish people that it has become the language of conversation round here!
The thing I found listening to French is that you don't need to get every word to get the point of what is said
There are several other places around here which sell them, i will shop around ;)
they also had plastic bowls with a single serving in them in for £3.50
You cant do that when you are thinking though!
those single serving cereals are ridiculously overpriced but they are a godsend in my desk at work when I'm running late (ie always since I stay up til 3.20am, oops)
That;s why you have to think in French
Do they come with a spoon?
no. Last week I took my spoon home accidentally so the next day I ate my sultana bran with a fork.
I should buy a packet of disposable cutlery so this never happens again.
But if you dont understand enough words of French to convince yourself that you are thinking in French how do you stop yourself from slipping back to thinking in English?
If you go to KFC enough you should start to build up a collection?
They've taken away everything disposable at work (the canteen provides breakfast and lunch) for stuff that is washable - and the cleaners collect it overnight too!
we have a dishwasher at work but its always full of dirty stuff because no one ever seems to turn it on, and theres no dishwasher powder anywhere to be found. So I just keep my own stuff at my desk :D
You just have to decide you are going to do it. I started off doing it while reading then after a few days I switched for everything because it just happened. I was working in English so I wasn't forced to speak French all day. Occasionally we did bits in French if someone came in who didn't speak great English. I hadn't spoken French apart from at scholl before I went there and the first few days when people spoke it was a blur but I found that I gradually picked up more and more words. After about 6 months I had a meeting with the head of the construction company who were doing the other half of the project we were working on. For 4 hours we discussed all the temperature and humidity controls for a full electronics plant. He only spoke French and I only spoke in English and it worked so well I stil don't believe it.
ooh. Monza next weekend? I can have chicken again? Hooray!
KFC has cutlery now?
I am going to BK or KFC tonight to make up for my disapointment earlier in the week. cant decide which.
BK is a drive through so it is winning at the moment
Are you only allowed chicken on race weekends? They have strange laws in Australia
I actually had chicken for dinner tonight, but its the only time I let myself have fast food because I was eating waaay too much of it.
F3 euroseries from a tiny version of the nurbergring is on skysports at the moment...
Can I say who won a race today?
Nice to see all the racing drivers sticking together. Tweet from Max Papis
Is mika maki a real finn? he doesnt have a nen'
Well, off to the bewilding thing know as "Outside"...I shall try to watch out for Marmots......
I thought the F3 Euroseries was at Brands with the DTM
He is a Finn
today they raced at Brands Hatch
I am sure Christine would like you to kidnap some
I have no idea. it definatly isnt live
ooh I'd best go to bed. Oops. Don't let this happen again tomorrow! I need sleep!
Night!
if you don't, we'll moderate ya. night amy.
Gees, calm down y'all. I was just letting people know there was some motorsport on the tele...
Night! I think you need to stop having the early evening naps.
I've woken up a bit now. Was in a sluggish daze all day.
Stay awake. It's early yet
Does anyone have a picture of Fisichella's Ferrari helmet?
you think we should design him one?
That, sir, is genius :D
:)
Do you reckon we can run a competition, find a winner and send the design to Rob in time for Monza? :P
It depends on if you plan on getting it made or not? ;)
umm. i guess they've already figured out a design, and we don't have rob's contact details, which could be an issue. still worth having a go though i reckon.
I think Badoer's helmet design was the problem. It was supposedto have a prancing horse on it but the designer used my little pony by mistake
i thought we were the problem? well, us and every other living person who watched the past two GP's and dared make comment.
I'm back with crisps and with my sister in tow. She was very impressed by the doohickey :P
So she is not impressed by it any more?
has she seen livecommenting? tis only fair.
I should hope so, doohickey is awesome
It's like the 11th commandment isn't it? Thou shalt not insult Ferrari.
I did show her but she didn't like that so much. The mystery clock confused her.... :P
ahh, yes. will sort that later.
even if the driver does resemble frank spencer in every way.
We may need a clock on Doohickey for Amy.
Awww hehehe now he's complaining about being harassed :P
omg!
:D
:D
I tried to persuade her to come to Spa but she's having none of it :(
We got him fired apparently ;)
There is plenty of time before she has to commit. It is definitely a trip not to be missed. Show here the Giggles and Bassano blind installation video. She will want to meet them after that.
Public sympathy would probably have kept him his job a lot longer. If he became the public's little darling, Ferrari wouldn't want to incur public wrath by sacking him.
heheheh. ahh, am gonna have to find a clip for christine...
It's like they can't mess Felipe Massa around to solve their current driver issues. They couldn't deal with the backlash.
doooo it :D
Guys,
I have uploaded some pics from my Mallorca holiday to Facebook, but for those who are allergic to social networking, I have added some to Flickr too. Enjoy!
Try this link instead:
Lovely :)
christine hasn't seen some mothers do 'ave em?...
nope.
I went to Mallorca many years ago, but it looks lovely (i've got an aweful memory and what i think as Mallorca is quite likely to be Old Ibiza Town) :) Glad you had a good time
Did her parents not let her watch any comedy on TV?
:o i grew up watching repeats of that.. as well as faulty towers, monty python, are you being served and loads of other old comedy shows :)
she neeeeeeds to see an episode!
Going to Mallorca was the first time I flew anywhere. The only other time I've flown was to go to Sardinia.
Pretty much no.
Shameless plug alert!
Remember the "F1 Bloggers and Friends Karting Competition" from January? Well, I'm doing [url=http://formula1home.com/forum/weblog_entry.php?e=830]a second one in Birmingham[/url] to coincide with next year's Autosport International (Saturday 16th January 2010) and I've finally got the details written down in my blog, which means it will happen.
All these people seeing performing dolphins! I want to.
They let her marry Mr C....they must have a sense of humour ;)
8O
Sue them. It's for their own good.
When they had a say in what TV I watched, we watched a few things like Fawlty Towers and Open All Hours. Then I got my own TV in my room, so I didn't watch stuff like that.
I can't see my comment plugging that I've opened entries for the 2nd F1 Bloggers and Friends Karting Competition in Birmingham. Has it landed in the spam bin?
What?? I was subjected to hours of it. and 'Allo 'Allo (I had no idea it was so laden with innuendo until very recently), Fawlty Towers (liked that), lots of other stuff
Couldn't resist with that one, appologees!
'Allo 'Allo is an incredible program
Is it going to be during Autosport International again?
This is annoying, i may be going during one of the trade days this year!
Does anyone have a picture of Fisichella’s Ferrari helmet? {Comment #741}
No - but given what he usually does with helmets, it'll probably be identical to the one he's been using (with modifications) since the start of his career. Given that last time he tried doing a special helmet was Monaco 2008 and he spent the race fighting a progressive gearbox problem, it would be advisable for him not to change his helmet.
Jenson is going to be there next year too... which makes me want to go obv... however it will probably be around retakes :(
Is it going to be during Autosport International again? {Comment #787}
Correct. I figure that's when the most people are going to be in one place, so that's when it makes most sense to run the event :)
If I were him I'd go for a bright Ferrari red one!! He must be so happy :D
Which day?
It would look like Schumeys one surely?
It has so many layers. I watched it as a kid and really liked it, and completely didn't register half the stuff I now notice..
hehe if you watch one scene from some mothers do 'ave 'em it must be this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFLpwRMS00g
This is annoying, i may be going during one of the trade days this year! {Comment #789}
I see how that might be a problem. Going to Birmingham for two days (or getting a hotel for the night, which can be arranged) would be something of a nuisance...
I have no idea! I've never watched Shumi race.
ahh yup. retrieved.
for people using live comments, the link is: http://formula1home.com/forum/weblog_entry.php?e=830
Which day? {Comment #794}
Saturday evening. I wouldn't be very popular if I went on Sunday evening on account of my chauffer (Dad) having to work on Monday morning.
i never saw him race anyone either. at least not fairly.
I wasn't planning to go to Autosport International... I may rethink :-)
Thats cool, and potentially do-able!
i need one where he says he's being harassed :)
aha :D
Easy tiger...
i'll have a look...i just like that scene :)
ahh yup. retrieved. {Comment #800}
Thank you very much. When will I learn not to try using BBCode on a HTML-based comments system?
http://www.onpole.com/images/product_details/154833/
this is roughly it
How much are tickets to Autosport these days? has been a while since I've been
more than it's worth. at least this year they were.
I would disagree, it depends what your going for.
You are soooo lucky
That was my conclusion in 2004.
Cool? We damn near got hypothermia last year
possibly. it was certainly worse than previous years. in terms of stands, guests and entertainment.
drive faster
Hah. Similarly, I have NO idea what people get so fired up about. It's not the same to read about the crimes. You can't garner the same emotions at all.
:P :P
"Bring a coat if you're spectating"
or several.
don't get them started ;)
hehe.
think is, you can't "not" go. it kicks off the year, but we didn't find it value for money.
i would agree that the live action arena isn't as good as it once was, and that they forgot to put seat/block numbers on our tickets, but i'd still pay to go, although i'd only go for a standard ticket as apposed to previous years
but Jenson is going this time...
Hahaha. Good plan. It's just that you read a LOT of stuff and it's hard to tell what's factual and what's just prejudice or general dislike of someone's character.
I can "not" go. The only thing worth seeing is the live show and that's only something I'd want to see every few years.
If thats what your going for, then it may be a let down....
What have they done to it?
I think you may find it more interesting this year now that you have taken an interest in other areas of the sport than F1 and Franck
They havent *done* anything to it, per se, but it's just not as good as it used to be! Still good, but not AS good
Everything you read that made him sound bad is true
*nods*
Oh good, lets avoid this subject pleaseeee
I went in '01, '02 and '04 and enjoyed the live show. The static displays were just static displays and the people on the stage were just saying their normal pre-season fluff, but live. To be fair in '01 / '02 I was pretty impressed by seeing live people on stage and static displays as I hadn't been to a race yet.
Okay. It's food time anyways :D
My first was '04 i believe or maybe '05, it was great. Maybe you're right though, you get more used to it and it's less "amazing" each time
I cant fnd it, is it the one with the shrink?
I found the IT one :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP8PzO1mBug
I wasn’t planning to go to Autosport International… I may rethink :-) {Comment #803}
It will be good to see you, if you come :)
Thats cool, and potentially do-able! {Comment #804}
The more the merrier :)
Yeah but I went with a non-fan. It may be different with a group?
He said it alot
Theres a train station realllly close to the NEC and Karting and it's only £2 to go between them and a quick walk to the Karting place. So is very do-able
I have given in... off to BK
Thing is, I wouldn't go if it were just me going. If I'm meeting people there, especially people I've only met online, I'm more tempted.
pretty much every episode didn't he?
I'll be there anyway this year as it's almost a requirement for my course ;) it just depends if i have to do on a Trade day or can go on the Saturday, and if i can then thats good news! Potentially
Yes
Ooh is that karting thing going to take place again? If so, I am so there! :D
i'm searching youtube atm.. no clips i've found so far have it in...
So am I and failing miserably
Yup!
Getting there may not be my problem...getting home may be!
How much are tickets to Autosport these days? has been a while since I’ve been {Comment #811}
£29, £35 or £100, depending on ticket type. I'd recommend the £35 "Paddock Pass" ticket because it includes a map (which you'll need), simple access to the Live Action Arena and the ability to enter the autograph sessions if you're into that sort of thing.
If the stuff mentioned in the previous paragraph doesn't interest you, take the £29 ticket because the sort of people who would find the £100 tickets useful aren't the type to ask about the prices on a third-party blog.
I'll drive up and back same day.
Cool? We **** near got hypothermia last year
drive faster {Comment #818}
The driving isn't the problem. It's the patio heater freezing alongside the spectators...
Thanks. I was just looking on the website, they didn't have the Paddock Pass when I last went, and the circuit was much smaller. You get a map in that week's magazine anyway but presumably this is a special printout which is easier to carry around...
The £100 ticket doesn't interest me at all! It mentions the phrase "champagne and canapes" with a straight face, not realising this is not Monaco in May, it is Birmingham in January :-D
Ooh is that karting thing going to take place again? If so, I am so there! :D {Comment #848}
Yes it certainly is! ;)
£35 isn't too bad for a once-in-a-few years visit. Depends what Cool New Stuff is being launched I think.
:D hehehe
The only thing that you'll get from a paddock pass is autographs (if you want to queue), you get a lanyard with a map (as Alia says) and you can go "Backstage" at the live action arena, but all the cars are behind building-like-fences (without the barbed wire) and you cant get near them.
You get a map in that week’s magazine anyway but presumably this is a special printout which is easier to carry around…
It is pocket-sized and comes on a lanyard, so you can wear your essential navigation aid instead of leafing through upteem bags.
From the sound of how cold you were, and from being there before, you want a nice hot pie and a cup of tea...
But...it's only £6 more, so theres not much to loose
How tedious. I thought it would mean like an IRL or BTCC pass where you can get in the paddock.
I'll still go for the Paddock Pass option. Why would anyone pay £100 just to get a parking space and some champagne and canapes?
nooooo
If I go, which is possible, I'd get that too. I'd pay £6 because I'm curious and in any case I might go in Full Blogger Mode.
Planes and stuff: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/09/06/upside-down/
You don't need a pass to get into the paddock at Snetterton ;)
Although you do need one to get into the garages and hospitality. But you're free to walk behind the pit garages and inbetween the transporters. It's pretty good access for a facility such as Sneterton. I like it anyway :)
The £100 ticket doesn’t interest me at all! It mentions the phrase “champagne and canapes” with a straight face, not realising this is not Monaco in May, it is Birmingham in January :-D {Comment #855}
Precisely!
How do you get in then? Can you just walk straight in?
That seems strange
To the paddock? Yep!
Seriously, it's like that for all the race event there Well, all the ones I've been to anyway.
Mmmm yummys!!
That's with your normal £25 ticket, you don't pay the £10 extra?
Why would anyone pay £100 just to get a parking space and some champagne and canapes? {Comment #864}
Professional networking opportunities. It's the same thing that causes people to pay £500 to attend one day of a library conference. At the side of that, £100 doesn't seem quite so silly.
Though anyone who needs telling that the VIP ticket offers professional networking opportunities is probably too low on the professional ladder to get any benefit from using the ticket that way.
Fair enough,i arrived on Friday morning when you don't need any passes to get in, i never left the paddock when i was there except for a walk along by Russel Chicane at 5.30 in the morning, but it was pretty foggy so i couldnt really tell where i was going
I really really heart the Red Arrows video - well done!
I like it too
At Knockhill you can stroll through the paddock all day if you like regardless what is on. Even when they have BTCC or when they had F3 the padock is open to anyone
If you mean Snetterton, you just pay the ticket price and then you're free to explore! But to get into the pit garages and the hospitality, you need a paddock pass.
What do you mean by in the garages? Actually in in the garages? Or do you mean between the garages and transporters?
Are these things about F1? Or is it more general motorsport?
Everything :D
Which, if my dad gets the Clerk of the Course position at Snetterton, won't be a problem ;)
So even if you don't have the slightest bit of interest in anything other than F1, would you enjoy going? I just like the human element of F1.
At Thruxton BTCC they won't let you through the tunnel into the paddock without the extra pass. Once you are there you can walk among the transporters and get between them and the garages. Jason Plato glared at me as he lit a cigarette, it was then I realised I'd been staring at him.
Jenson will be there... he is a human in f1 :P
Ummm.....i'm not the best person to talk to if its just F1 your interested in ;)
Wait i go out and now there is F1 at sneterton?
I thought Donningotn was a joke, but Snetterton?
Depends what stage of fan-dom you are at. If you have never been to an F1 race or test, and have never seen an F1 car before, you absolutely should go. You will also see drivers on the main stage although I never figured out how you know who is on when.
I just mean I'm not so into the technical stuff, or other forms of motorsport particularly. I just like the drama of F1.
I do have the benefit of never having been to anything like that before. Also I know nothing about anything so I'm likely to actually learn things.
You have to smell and feel motor racing and properly here it. Just watching it is 20% of the experience
Then go! Make sure you get stuck in learning about things and try and find someone who can teach you stuff!
I went to Silverstone with my dad last year. Oddly enough before I was a fan.... He wanted to go for his birthday but it seemed cruel to let him go by himself!
I was nominated as the person "least likely to hate it" Since then I've become hardcore hooked.
But you are in New Zealand when Autosport International is on
Oh I see! I wasn't really listening to what it was you were talking about or when it was on.... :D
The man has a point!
:D
Yes, actually in the garages is what I mean. But you are allowed to walk behind them and between the transporters.
Oi, don't bad mouth Snetterton. It might now be the biggest facility but it's still cool!
I agree completely. But... the first time I went I'd never seen a Formula 1 car with my eyes before. They didn't move and the engine didn't fire, I still had a good time because I was amazed at how small they are.
Now I've seen them moving at Goodwood 3 times I'm not hugely bothered about static displays unless they have special historic interest or are completely new. Depends where you are as a fan.
Theres a Palestine in Hampshire!!! This scares me
hooray!
You all bully me! I'm telling my mummy!
W have two conversations going on. One is on Autosport International and our karting competition and the other is about racing at various circuits around the country.
I had the added confusion of being eating when the conversation started....
i would love to hear you describe the problem to her.
...see, there's this website, with podcasts, and doohic...
Hehehe my mum doesn't even have a mobile phone! I might try and explain to her.... I could film it. I'm sure it'd be epic.
:D
I spent ages last year at th Classic Team Lotus stand and one with a whole load of 1970s F2/ F3 cars
:)
Two members of your family introduced to the site in one day. The plan is working
She dosent have a phone? Then you should qik the conversation ;)
okay... so.. is this Alonso? http://twitter.com/NanoAlonso
Could you live stream it?
I can't imagine him calling himself nano can you??
was looking last night, but wasn't convinced. anything new today?
good point...
same
Maybe it is a standard Spanish abbreviation or something the Spanish press call him and Fernando Alonso is taken
In all honesty, the way he's talking reminds me of the things Vettel was saying on there.... Me is suspicious.
no... i've seen the nandoalonso account before, which seems to be all in spanish... but this is all in english... who knows. we need rubens or jenson to say if it's them...
You think Alonso and Vettel are the same person
I'm reading our tinpot local paper which I bought to look at ads for flats.
Our town is 'twinned' with a place in France and like here they have a sign on the edge of town saying 'twinned with..' (but theirs is in French). Turns out they use it for rifle practice.
It kinda looks like that. They joined at like exactly the same time..... Plus they've been "talking" to each other.
When they next appear we need to ask then to check it out in person at Monza.
indeed. maybe if lots of us ask at once they'll see the messages and be able to tell us?
Vettel is only following JB and Rubens though...
I just found out Odense is twinned with St. Albans and... Brno!
Has it got a track like Brno or the old proper Brno track?
No but we have a karting track!
Back from an evening at the pub, please ignore any drunken comments I may type!
Hmmm I'm still yet to be convinced. It seems odd to me!
It's close enough to Spa to fit a side trip for a kartig race
it does seem suspicious... but Jenson thinks he's real... i think.. i'll ask if he can try twit pic out for us :)
He didn't add him though.... Why wouldn't he do that if he was convinced.
Yo.
Everything at home is flippin freezing. Grr.
RG's back!!!
you were looking at door magnets too?
you were looking at door magnets too?
RG! hi! did you have a nice time? i know the feeling. it took me 3 days to adjust :)
Is anyone watching The Mask on Channel 5? :D
i don't know :(
Welcome back :-)
You made it home RG
:D :D
Wow! 3 comments all at 21:25:45....however...
Lou...how did you manage to post 2 comments at exactly the same time!?
Maybe they hate each other..... :P
I'll top that by saying we are twinned with Newcastle, Newcastle and Nancy.
server fail.
Doohickey and LCLT dual action??
the lawyers?
I've adjusted to the computers at the hotel. So I'm pressing down hard on the keys and pressing 'del' instead of 'backspace'
magic :P
At least you don't have to watch a timer counting down now
oh
not so much magic then eh ;)
That is also a relief.
Thanks for the welcoming back guys as well.
no :(
OH MY GOODNESS
kinda a story, but also not
That story was around about a month ago.
Mr C, am just finishing off 'an email'. Should I send it to Christine, yourself or both? Titled: There's An App For That
Well it's only just come to my attention. Tis wierd that they've only just reported it
Hey folks, how's the weekend been?
12 hours drive?
Send it to me, pls :)
Thought so, just checking
Is the weekend over already :(
Sadly yes :(
Hey. Pretty relaxed. Yours?
Right, off to bed early - see you tomorrow ;)
really early! night
Night gavin
Night sir. Hey Bassano.
G'night Gavin
Hey RG, are you back now?
I've just discovered that Gpupdate's F2 race reports are word for word the F2 press releases that are sent out, but they don't state that they are.
Isn't there some law against that?
Night
Laptop on, lying in bed, watching Sky Sports News.
night
I think Autosport had it in the paper version. They said that Citroen was prepared to let Loeb drive in 1 once he clinched the championship which at that time could have meant he did 5 F1 races but his recent problems mean he will only do Abu Dhabi. At that time he had supposedly agreed a deal with STR
Short, Friday lates followed by Monday earlies but I spent the weekend catching up with some friends I don't get to see too often
Hehehe I've managed to snap my curtain pole. I don't know how. I went downstairs and found the curtain pole in 2 pieces balanced against one another!! How do I deal with this?
Don't let your sister swing from it
What an earth were you doing????
Sounds good apart from the working hours :-)
Maybe I should encourage her to do that.... Then I'd have proof she was responsible for breaking it and she'd have to pay to fix it.
what??
I'm a little busy but...
firstly drop.io a picture :P cause that's what we do ;) then... erm... erm.... i dont know...
you know you could just invite bassano around for a cup of tea? you don't have to wreck your house.
Is your orange drill warmed up?
Nothing!! I didn't touch it.
Hullo, I'm back, with lots of cuts, bruises, smelliness and exhaustin :)
Did you win?
cuts and bruises?? i thought you were playing football... not something violent?...
Always, it's like Thunderbirds round 'ere ;)
I've come back with broken wrists before. Its a violent game if the striker is big and heavy.
As long as there are biccies too ;)
Nah. We won 2, drew 1 and lost 4 but it was a good evening :D
Plus we didn't come last, hehehe. And I scored a few goals, woop.
You've never played football then?
hey
Hmmm I've taken a photo on my phone. Is there any way to text photos to the drop? I thought I could email it but it really hasn't worked.... My phone is proper old school.
Can you get Giggles round to live stream and yammer?
O.O
you can tell i've not watched a football game before can't you...
And I've done a few tackles myself. Gotta play it hard, tis the only way.
That sounds good
Any beauties?
erm, not sure there is?
i don't play/watch/ have any interest in football. i prefer playing racket sports like tennis and badmington... and swimming... and watching f1....
5 a side tourney so theres only so mcuh you can do. My best goal though which I got a few pat on the backs for was when I was in the very corner, turned the defender, and curled it around into the far side of the net. Nice little shot :)
The rest were generic shots and the like. Was in goal for most of the games though so didn;t get too many chances obviously
Ah well you'll have to live without. Unless I carry my laptop into the hall and take a photo with the webcam.
Is football the one with the round ball?
I am fairly certain swimming isn't a racquet sport although that could explain why I am no good at it.
Don't like 5 a side, unfair on keepers. Did go a tourney without conceding mind you. Though we got knocked out on the semi's on pens. Bit like Switzerland.
no... the swimming was separate... i'm not making much sense atm am i.
You mean you didnt do this
You are. I am just making bad jokes
I don't know if he's finished with his server migration or is still recovering from it
P.s, is this the most extreme commentator reaction ever?
oh. i'm too tired for bad jokes :P
MMS will do it
last seen drinking grolsh and blogging.
My phone is equally old, i use a data cable
Heck no. Listen to Brazillian guys, they know how to do it.
Ah, yammering with his keyboard no doubt then
Photo capable phones should have MMS
Send to the drop's email adress instead of a phone number
Sidepodcast@drop.io
That's how I do it. I think? I made a contact called Sidepodcast Drop, didn't assign a number but there is space to edit in an email address (I think after you first save the contact). Mine is a fairly old phone too.
Does that work?? It won't broadcast my phone number to the universe?
you can mms an email address? who knew?
testing.
Tell Mr C when you are going to send it and h can check it as soon as the message arrives. Nikki's works Blackberry sent a whole load of here details.
pls ignore.
You've not seen my pics? They all have this comment:
It works and no, your number isn't revealled
yup, can do.
wow! i may have to try that...
btw there is spam on the drop
Do you not remember the speed tape pics I sent you? I remember you being quite confused at the time...
That's how I sent pics from Phoenix before I had the iPhone. Cheaper than accessing email on the go
Ok...i have a name i need help saying please...
- Kazim Vasiliauskas
i try to forget the points in my life that i'm confused :)
Geoff
Vas-il-ass-kass

Part one of my venture to abu dhabi sorted... it looks like i have gotten myself a free ticket to dubai!
whoop!
Now i need to work out a way to convince my non f1 watching friends to come and buy tickets for a sold out event with money i dont have. Easy.
Va-sey-louw-kas
I nicknamed him Vasi
Good luck. Looks Lithuanian or similar
Also...
Natacha Gachnang and Armaan Ebrahim.
Not Seb the second
He is. Is my adopted F2 driver.
I can't see any trace of it on the drop.
vah silly ous kas
For the first one I refer you to MWM :-)
I'm trying now... It's not sending!! It's been saved for sending later apparently :( Stupid phone.
Her name is pronounced Natacha as normal and Gach(Scottish ch and in loch) nang. Never heard of the other bloke

Thanks all
Christine: email sent
Okaaay you'll have to forgive the quality! I took a photo of the photo using my webcam :P
Attempt 1
Other try
Broken curtains in dropio and no details on them
That's because I used my computer to send them. My phone came back and said sending failed....
All received thank you :)
Question....couldnt you just take the picture of the curtain rail using your webcam?
No, definitely not been hanging off those. No mum, not me
yeeeeeah :)
I was a bit frightened of throwing my laptop down the stairs in the process!!
wow that's strange. maybe the spiders did it...
Hold on, we have to plug our own shows now? Darn, I'll get Word open then.
I don't know if the photos give you an idea of the scale of that window... The hall is double height. The top of the rail is about 4m off the ground. I'd need scaffolding to get up there to fix it. Goodness only knows what I'm gonna do.....
Pat made a comment yesterday on the F1 phone in show post that we may get a better response i the show was earlier. There is a vacant slot at 2:30pm and I can see that people would be more likely to phone at that time.
Does anyone object to the show being moved to there?
@Alison Would that suit you or is it something you would not be happy about?
How do you ever manage to open & close the curtains?
Yup that suits me fine I reckon. It's still a Sunday yeah?
You don't have to but the opportunity is there if you want to use it.
Errr do you move your curtains by touching the rail?? You just move the curtain!
Might as well, would love some more questions.
Have an of you guys seen in NOTW today? Briatore is apparently blaming Barrichello for the safety car that came out. What the article does point out is that Rubens stopped after the satefy car had been and gone. Flav's as mad as a deluded tramp, and to be honest he has the looks to go with it.
It doesn't look that big in the pic. Bassano will fix it. He probably hasa scaffolding tool for his drill
I mean, if they're at that height
If you're tugging on the bottom of the curtain, that'd put some strain on the pole eventually
Still September 20th
Ahhhh, the image that first came to my mind when you said that *shudders*
This is regarding Crashgate BTW :P
Now you're giving all my secrets away. The Orange drill works best by suprise
excuse my stupidity but whats NOTW?
The news of the world's F1 department probably picked a story out of a hat with x amount of names needed for story, then picked out the amount of names needed out of another hat.
Read the NOTW??? Not in several decades
ooooh dw
Thanks! Just thought there might be people going to bed early ready for work, like Gavin.
Not if you don't pull down. I can reach the bottom of the curtain with comfort. You just pull across not down! It's sturdy wood :(
I phoned my bf and told him he had to come back and fix my curtain pole. He now thinks I've lost the plot.
Obviously!
:( :( :(
As soon as I read your comment it seemed sensible. I have now changed it in the wiki.
We have two empty slots so there is still the option of doing a show if you have an idea.
You will also see drivers on the main stage although I never figured out how you know who is on when. {Comment #890}
There are large screens by the main stage that give the times for when people are supposed to be on there. The schedule sometimes gets warped a bit though.
If you are pulling the bottom of the curtain across you are applying a downward force on the pole.
Yeah but surely all curtains work like that.... I can't reach the pole of any of my curtains.
You pull the side, it's just near the bottom.
isn't window fixtures's bassano's department ;)
However you pull a curtain, unless your pulling the curtain ring instead, your always putting a downward force on teh pole
Thanks.
I think Jon could promote his new podcast by doing a live version.
He needs you to live stream and yammer. He refused to go until you turned up.
Great idea. Jon?
Evening all. Been away for the weekend. Apart from the film last night, did I miss anything?
ah I see. Well I'm not here so that's a problem.
I have to go to sleep because of the getting up at five tomorrow.
You are prepared to leave Alison with no curtains just for a couple of hours sleep
Hi Chris. You missed Alex live streaming a beer purchase.
how would you even fix a broken curtain pole?
I think the main issue was that my descriptive skills are lacking. I couldn't really explain what had happened to it or the state it was in now. Plus I think I woke him up. He wasn't impressed that all I wanted to talk about was window fixtures :P
with an orange drill.
lol. Not much then.
Highlight of my weekend.
Precisely. Newton had some good thoughts on this subject
What you need is a long stick
Jon would love too but thats the day i move into halls
:)
Well, someone got up there in the first place to put it there
Do you have a tall ladder?
The bit where he walked up the street, classic!
Cricket score payback :)
No! Not that tall. I think I underestimated the height when I described it. It really is a scaffolding job. I'm now terrified to touch it incase it all comes crashing down.
Nowhere near.... What I need to do is ring again in about 90 minutes once he's definitely sound asleep again.
Not to alarm you or anything, but it probably will at some point
You call Bassano.
You buy a new one?
I provide drilling services and labour.
We still need safe, working at height access
You can do a pre-record if that helps. I like the idea of the people who only watch F1 getting an intro into the feeder series and some up and coming drivers.
And throw it up?
Do you have a crash helmet just in case?
Me too, sounds good
I watched some of the F2 race yesterday
makes sense i suppose... although i've never had to buy one to i wouldn't know where to go.. :D
Drill a couple of holes and super glue dowel pins into them
You provide your own cherry picker?
or maybe just pre record a little 5 min teaser or a little advert that could be played between shows?..
I have access to one but my employer doesn't really like it to go off-base
To further complicate it, the stairs start directly under the window.... You can't even put a ladder directly under the offending area (if you found a superlong one) because it'd have to be half on the stairs
IKEA, Homebase, B&Q, Wickes...
And stop tugging it
RG is tired. Aaaaaand has tons of podcasts to listen to, 5Live seem to be filling up my iPod i tells ya. Anywho, ciao. Lotsa love.
Excuse me?
The bottom of the curtain
Night RG
G'night RG
G
Good to have you back sir. Take care :)
Get a long stick and move the curtain from the top.
Oops, soz bout that :P
Night
If you give me a couple of days, ask me say Wednesday, then i can give you a definite answer. I wanna get the first podcast out by then, and then there should be another on the following Tuesday but it'll be less work because F2 and WSR aren't racing. I *should* be able too, but if you give me a couple of days and i'll give you a definite answer.
Once it's better
Night RG
Briatore is apparently blaming Barrichello for the safety car that came out. {Comment #1079}
One senses that Flavio may have been watching a different race to the rest of us...
night RG
or in houses...
It might make a mess of the front door!
You do realise that in Steven speak, you've just given a definite answer :D
Before I go, Mr Jon, take it your doing a podcast, any info like important posts I should read?
Have a think about it. I am sure if you need any help with it that can be arranged.
Anyone realised the timer in the FBFB is still running?
Yes. Don't touch it at all now and hope that a heavy spider doesn't touch it either.
Ummm....not that i'm aware of? Not really 100% sure what you mean
Yeah! I am aware ;)
Long day, I'll chat tomorrow.
I saw that earlier, it's counting up since the start time
Have you been following all year? Could do more of an overview. I haven't been watching when usually I would have.
You could do it from the outside and stick your head through the window
Why would he not want a chance to give his podcast a 30 minute plug?
i thought it was just a clock?
No worries! Sleep good!
What if new fixtures are going up? I mean, if we're going to all this hassle...
RG has been on holiday so he probably doesn't know about your feeder series thing
check Jon's blog in the morning RG that may help :)
The window doesn't open! I could just fire a nail gun at the curtain from the ground, hold it up....
oh ok, it was half a blog post, and wasnt really that informative. If your still around Mr RG, it's going to be about F2, GP2 and WSR.
How could that go wrong?
Must Qik Stream though, I think that'd be too good to miss
Dude. You've seen how hard I found it to get a picture of the problem onto the web. Forget a video.....
do it from your webcam?
Use your webcam and UStream, s'what i do ;)
P.S i (heart) the use of the word "Dude"
You can do it.
Yeah, that was the weak point in that scenario
I'll do you a deal. I'll ring the voicemail number from the hospital, would that suit you all?
As long as you drop.io pics of the carange later
You cant use mobiles in the hospital...do it from the ambulance
No pictures means it didn't happen
It's the law
:(
i think the code new code thingy seems to be working. if you notice anything odd going on with the comments, please yell.
I have noticed that no-one is discussing alchol but I don't think the code is to blame
:D
aha. i haven't had time to drink tonight. i have mostly caught up from yesterday though.
It's Sunday's fault
Was the film *that* bad??
true.
:-)
I told myself I wasn't going to have any drink this evening, after last night. Got the urge for a small beer.
Sunday sucks. Fact.
do you mean this sunday... or all sundays?
Nooo. Sunday is RorR day. Rest or Racing.
I had Friday & Saturday
The liver is evil and all that... but it still needs a rest now and again
Hmmm I did forget about the F1 aspect of it. I'm just always used to it being the last day of my working week and the hardest to add to it....
I wouldn't normally get to see the F1 until Monday (although I've not been working that schedule since I got my new job)
Got a glass of Ribena instead. Must have willpower (not you, Will Power)
okay time for me to sleep :) silly school getting in the way of late night commenting :P night all!x
you start tomorrow?
Goodnight Lou
G'night Lou
Night Lou.
i started last thursday :(
ouch. niiiight
Check it out, Sidepodnation :P

Night
Mr C i am struggeling to post with doohicky...
It worked! I tried aout 3 or 4 times, but it kept saying-
Error: could not submit comment
Test from Desktop Doohickey
Generally when it does that it still posts, so just click cancel and see if it comes through
...from iPhone
It is working perfectly for me
What even is that? What does it doooo?
I'm off, night all
night
It's doohickey that runs on it's own, not using an internet browser
Night Jon
I did that, i relaoad the page each time i get the message.
LCLT also did the same, Ye olde worked
G'night Jon
What are the benefits of that?
is it okay now?
Night Jon
Nick, are you using your phone to post?
All good since i was able to post on ye olde
see ya lou and jon.
nope, im on the old lump of junk in the corner of the room!
Night guys
You can run it as a seperate program, it's not as up-to-date as the browser doohickey though
Erm, a larger window showing more comments.
I don't know, I just prefer it. Mr C may tell us why, he invented it
I will try to pop back later :P
well, it's a technology trial mostly. a better version will appear after all the other fiddly bits are done. we weren't expecting anyone to use it tbh, but feel free to do so.
It's a permanent and much used feature of my dock
huh?
Nick was lamenting the lack of smileys in his posts lately
Maybe he's gone out to find some more
haha. madnes!
I think he said he was trouble posting comments
i guess now wouldn't be a good time for things to go quiet.
Are you still testing?
monitoring now. see if anything has made a difference.
it'll be hard to know before fp1 on friday though.
In terms of increased & rapid traffic?
exactly that. hard to replicate any other way.
We need 'An Alex event' to follow
