Hello and welcome to Monday, it's that time again, time for a daily. I suppose it is also back to school time again. I always remember the fifth of September as the sort of time I'd get that sinking feeling. Thankfully, school was a while ago for me. Anyways, what kind of F1 things are we talking about?
- This weekend, we put up a couple of posts, the first of which involved David Coulthard and his Mercedes Benz reality versus virtual race. The action kicks off today at 3pm, with live streaming on the website, so if you have spare time, it might be worth seeing who can win - DC on track, or the excellent gamers on the simulator.
- We also heard from both Lukeh and James who attended the Red Bull Speed Jam in Cardiff, with some great pictures and words about their day out. It seems Red Bull are pulling out all the stops at the moment to keep the crowds entertained, so well done to them.
- There's also news doing the rounds that Narain Karthikeyan has found himself sponsorship to be driving at the Indian Grand Prix, but are HRT prepared to give him the opportunity? I suppose if the price is right, any opportunity turns into a business transaction. I am always surprised at the lengths F1 goes to trying to get drivers into cars for home races.
We finished recording the latest episode of F1 Debrief last night, so it should be released at some point during the day. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for that one, and have a fabulous Monday!
Hi Monday.
Today would've been the 65th birthday of Freddie Mercury and Google have made what could be their best doodle animation yet, press play! http://www.google.co.uk/
Wow! What a beautiful tribute. I love it. :)
That goes a bit beyond a doodle
Ahh back to school on Wednesday, simply can not wait...
Those things just keep getting better. Love that one so much. And its a great reason to play Queen all day.
Good idea. Love to do that today/tomorrow.
Tuesday for me.
A good reminder to finally get around to buying some.
And work tomorrow, so time for sleep now..
G'night
Goodnight
I need to check this out when I get home because on my work computer I push play and it does nothing except load the "Freddie Mercury" search results.
It should do a lot more than that but I won't spoil it for you
I hear a 98 second animation ;)
It didn't seem that long but yes
love it! didn't realise group lotus were doing this too: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2011/09/lotus-evora-s-freddie-mercury-edition-revealed.html
lemmie guess... IE?
theres no such thing as spoiling things for me, I spoil everything for myself first :D
I don't think I could cope living in America because I wouldn't be able to find out how every TV show ends before I start watching it.
of course :D
They have to do something to raise their profile
:D
hehe
That would drive me insane. I love surprises. :)
Me too. I hate trailers and I hate shows that show you bits that are going to happen later in the show or next episode.
I am looking at you Dragons Den
dun dun dun.....
That is the worst thing ever. There's some worse than others, I mean like one practically gives away the first 45 minutes of the next episode, I don't mind them being there to entice you but leave an element of surprise...
Oh, just found this on twitter. Graham Rahal was a lot closer to the safety truck at the start of the Baltimore GP than we could see from our angle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHuIb2e5Nh0&feature=share
It was a RT by Pat. :)
Torchwood is terrible. They spend the last 5 minutes telling you what is going to happen the next time. The point of the program is to try to figure it out. So now as soon as they say next week... off it goes
small world :)
did you hear lou might be moving in next to stuart? that's how small sidepodworld is.
I saw that on twitter, too. Twitter is the center of the universe.
So Lou is starting the SidepodCommune?
First time I saw that. Outrageous. How can anyone let that happen? I have never seen that at the lowliest club meeting
Is that the same truck they were using to move the tires while they were on the parade lap?
dare i ask... anyone mad about the indycar race, or was it finally a quiet one?
oh, don't worry, we had a grid rearrangement after a big clogging wreck in one corner. No worries, there's still no integrity. Graham Rahal said 'the officiating was terrible.'
But the actual race did not have the carnage I expected. That was a big surprise.
Don't remember
bugger.
It ended with a driver complaining about the officiating and the officials making up rules on the fly again
can't they all just get together and play card games or something? racing seems beyond them.
a few of them need to go play cards. Everyone else has a race series to save.
To be fair all the drivers bar one were very sensible today
Absolutely. I was talking about race control and some promoters. :)
They need to do something else
Just found a story about someone standing for the leadership of a political party whose plan if elected is to disband it. Interesting tactic. But #nopolitics here
I rarely get surprised though, I think everything I've ever seen that had a "twist" ending, I guessed within about 10 minutes of the start.
Hold on. Duncan Dayton and Highcroft racing are 30 minutes from me? The interview location given on Wind Tunnel has him right down the road!
Oh, there's a race at Lime Rock this weekend. I forgot about that.
This is tomorrow.
http://www.limerock.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=101&Itemid=99
Looks like a fun day out
For those who missed the Indycar race this was the big incident of the race
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wmQH6CFhsw&feature=feedu
Good morning. My body clock seems very confused. I think I need one of those sun lamps to tell you if it's daytime or not.
in Baltimore they call in the big incident, in Macau it happens every 10 minutes (no matter which race) :-)
Morning all
no might be about it, sending the contracts off today so fingers crossed after all my issues with it, me and my girlies will be safe in a nice home with some wonderful neighbours! :)
What's Stuart?
afternoon
Hello Wolf,
How are you today?
@DavisCup #Switzerland's #DavisCup team for play-off against #Australia confirmed: #Federer, Wawrinka, Bohli, Chiudinelli
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
I remember how big news it was when BBC announced F1 will be broadcast in HD.
Here we had to put up with the inferior definition and old 4:3 format. And then yesterday while browsing the TV menu I spotted ESPN HD channel. I swear it was not there few days ago. Curious me went on to check what are they showing. And I saw an add for F1 ...
So, without telling anybody, they brought us F1 in HD. There was no announcement, till now there is not a mention on espnstar.com nothing ...
In any case, dilema - stay on with BBC over internet or go HD on big screen but put up with ads and the dreadful commentary ...
I go HD on big screen, switch to BBC over internet in the adbreaks. Although I guess I have BBC commentary anyway on my TV so thats not an issue.
the events over internet and TV are not exactly time synchronized, 15-20 secs lag ... so would not work. and jumping from TV to computer is not very enjoyable ...
by the way, I went to check the hotel I would want to stay in if I go to Melbourne fo F1 ... I got so upset that I am actually thinking about not travelling at all ... Thu - Sun not available, Wed to Mon available ... 2 people per room OK, 2 adults plus any number of kids - not available ... I think I will travel to Sepang instead
bah thats rubbish. Another hotel not an option?
well will see, at the moment I am upset with this rip off attitude in a city I would not really expect it from
maybe next years grand prix is oddly popular and other people have already booked all the good rooms? #reaching
I do not believe so, because when I check the calendar for March the whole month is available except Thu - Sun on GP week. But the moment I add Wed and Mon all the rooms become miraculously available. If I check any other day I can add children to the booking, for GP week I can't , I must book extra room ... I think I am going to write a friendly email to the hotel and ask for some clarification :-)
How well do you know your Formula 1 history?
The book That'll be the Day: 365 F1 Stories takes a look at significant moments or quirky happenings on this day in Grand Prix history. Can you guess what event the following describes?
ahh yes that definitely sounds like them doing a dodgy then. Booo!
I think a lot of that is because the current series is made for US TV with lots of ads, so on the BBC they need to fill the time somehow. Doesn't make it less annoying.
That's frustrating. Maybe instead of emailing them you should consider another hotel.. unless they all do it?
While I was away over the weekend, I found myself a little busy.

:)
In tasty news, my favourite pie shop back home has bought out a range of Rugby World Cup pies for all the teams that are playing matches in town.
http://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/175820/hand-made-pies-are-team-effort
I am sad I'm not there, I want to try them ALL!
Good work, how was the weekend?
Oh wow
I want the meatball in red wine
Good weekend, but I forgot how grey and miserable Rockingham is. It really feels like a circuit in the middle of an industrial estate - probably because it is!!
Sadly, the leftovers of the failed CART attempt makes it feel quite desolate - all the grandstands from the original events are still up (capacity 52,000), so it always feels as it if you are in a big empty space.
I like the sound of beef, potato and cheese :)
It is a bit bleak sometimes. I went to the CART events and it was a good venue with enough people there, just in the wrong place. I can certainly see how it might be a bit soulless for a smaller event. You'd need binoculars to see the road course from the stands.
I was chatting Roberto Moreno for a while and he said pretty much the same thing - ambitious project, but just in the wrong place
Steven... Apparently Virgin Broadband give you a choice as to which hold music you'd like. Press 4 for Indie!
I'm very stressed! The store that was going to take me part time while I was studying have said they have no room!?
Booo !!
What a waste of energy
I have some other options but I really thought it was sorted. An afternoon on the phone for me then :D
Still, an irritation though.
Very much! Not good times at all because I need to keep my job, it's not optional really....
weight off my shoulders listed, the girl who was selling me her Friday Davis Cup ticket because she couldn't get the day off work decided to pull a sicky but all the tickets were showing as sold out and although she promised me I could still have hers and she'd try get another one I was pretty sure she'd change her mind.
But they've just released more tickets for sale. Phew, I'm not going to miss Roger :D :D
I was just telling my dad how much I want to buy these pies and he's offered to buy all 6 and put them in the freezer. Tempting but eating 6 pies in 7 days doesn't sound good for me :D
Woohoo!!! :D
my first ever grass tennis, and it's Roger. I might die. Good practice for going to see the Olympics though, I'll have to come back to life I guess :D
Result. Take some back to Melbourne.
I could just wait until after my friends wedding because then fitting into the bridesmaids dress doesn't matter, and I don't leave until 2 days after it. 6 pies in 2 days, thats one for breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinner. Easy :D
Seeing as how it's Jochen Rindt's anniversary today (41 years!!), I thought I'd give this another bash
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2010/09/12/the-lost-champion-jochen-rindt/
:)
Wow, they finished the never-ending job painting the Forth bridge! They usually have to start again as soon as they finish.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-14789036
Job = Sorted :D Big big relief :D
Excellent stuff
Nice. Same one?
Only half a day of stress. Good for the heart I guess :P
Yeah a transfer of my current job. I was keen to keep my pay and terms etc. on a part time basis. It's much better than I'd be able to get in a normal part time student job.
Morning from a cold, dark and wet Tundraland everyone. I thinking we can call summer over (practically here.)
Good afternoon.
Today there's US Open.
Actually I am wathing Eurosport. There are somo athletics going on...
Hi Marti,
I'm at work wondering why I'm at work
:)
World askes itself that question...
When do you finish?
I have about 2 hours - will be catching the IndyCar weekend tonight and doing a bit of writing too
:)
Rafa Christmas suffering a bit during the US Open Press Conference.

I love British Eurosport adverts.
Kobe Bryant one is fantastic!!
Love Eurosport's graphics.... I should watch that TV channel more often.
So how is everyone's North American Labour Day?
Mine is spent in Work, albeit in the UK
Fine, thanks.
Enjoying my last Spanish High-School Monday vacation day of the summer.
And you?
So Asics mean 'anima sana in corpore sano'
Original...
You can have your race wins Red Bull, but you don't have the best wind tunnel in F1... http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94274
That's what we're talking about *waves index finger around*
Interesting...
US Open time! Any tennis fan around here?
So how is everyone's North American Labour Day?
Fine, thanks.
Enjoying my last Spanish High-School Monday vacation day of the summer.
And you?
Research. misidentifying a Clan Cameron tartan and a Clan Gordon Tartan on my Scottish Higland Plastic Soliders. Embrassing as Cameron has quite a lot of red strips in it. Gordon, not a drop. I wish I clam ingorance, being from Clan MacDonald, but my Cameron grandmother is rovering over in grave right about now....
Oh, no worries. I don't mind at all.
*scratches Jordan off christmas card list* ;)
Oooooh it's the big move in under 3 weeks now. Must nearly be time for a fun filled trick to IKEA :D :D :D
Darn. One less lump of coal for Christmas..... The diamond-making pressure cooker is getting a little short on materials, here....
:D
Hahaha
they're opening the biggest Ikea in the southern hemisphere in Melbourne on Thursday.
I have already lined up a friend with a car to visit with me :D
Francesca Shipavona (or however it is written) looks like a guy...
(US Open)
Good planning there! Not that I'd expect anything else... :P
I may get impatient waiting for her to make the time though and just make the trip on the train + 20 minute walk.
It's nowhere near as convenient to reach as the older store but I am willing to make the effort for the BIGGEST store. Plus as a cardholder I get free hot dogs in the first week they're open :D Plus I need a couple of bags of meatballs for my freezer.
:D
Actually, I see there's one in Southampton. That probably makes more sense than trying to cram even more stuff into my loveably tiny car ♥
I would drive you!!! I might tell Nick we have to go to Melbourne especially :D
its 2.5km to walk around the whole showroom so its good for you!
#jealous
Awesome grandstands at New York's main tennis court.
How many people can be there?
Actually Schiavone wins Pavlyuchenkova (her name is Anastasia, so we'll call her Annie) for 1-0, first set.
Awesome Schiavone.
Annie has nothing to do!
I may stay away for a while though, Ikea crowds make me want to kill myself if I'm ever there on a weekend (WHY DOES EVERYONE WALK SO SLOW GRR) so I can imagine a new store will be much the same.
I'd have thought so. Probably loads of stupid people that don't know how it works trying to take away the display furniture.
There's one right in the middle of Southampton. It was a Pirelli underwater cable factory when I lived there..
Oh. My. God.
Watch this!!!! http://youtu.be/YWzrZexjYPo
Can't at the mo - in work. What is it?
It's a video about a man who has built a mini-wooden pieces esculture of the Tower of Pisa.
A journalist comes to interview him. He says that the Guiness World Records judges will come to see it the following week, and then the journalist brakes the whole esculpture.
Watching the US Open and i think... Why the tennis female clothes are so small? This can't be comfortable!
****
Not sure comfort was in mind when they were designed.... ahem.
*facepalm*
:D Not that they mind.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too...
I keep meaning to go there to check it out, usually I go to Bristol but Soton is just as far.
yikes
I just knew that was going to happen when I saw the sculture.... Why the idolt did not think about glueing everyhting together is beyond me although....
Yes, you're right.
But the journalist is not very smart... I mean. If you use a microphone which has a cable, just don't go around a circular wooden sculture!
Belgium race edit is up!
www.formula1.com/video
A good song choice (something different, for once). Highlights include a very good edit on the Hamilton-Kobayashi crash, as well as generous servings of Rob (even if he's not in a good mood).
And Annie wins by 3-2 to Schiavone.
C'mon Ski!
I knew it was going to happen when the reporter drafted his mic lead right across the front of piece at the beginning of the interview.
He had no idea where hid lead was, as opposed to the structure.
I've seen another facepalm video about a spanish reporter which interviews a man who has built a giant wooden castle (16 days of work).
And yes. She decides to get closer to it, and she fails... And brakes the castle... Reporters everywhere.
Interesting, can you provide a link?
belgium race edit is up: http://www.formula1.com/video/race_edits/
some stunning camera work there. nice work on the whole edit.
indeed. did you see my earlier post? ;)
one of their better race edits. arguably the best one so far this season.

Freddie Mercury stuff today.
Lotus unveils Evora S in honor of Freddie Mercury
While I'm not so keen on what I think is commercializing the Lotus name too much, I do like that they're auctioning it off for charity.
Also, if you go to the Google site, their video doodle for Freddie is quite something as well.
Yes, nice edit! :D
I didn't like the song at all, but the images are great.
Yesterday I read something about a Michael Jackson tribute car...
nope.
indeed. did you see my earlier post?
I like the song, partly because it's so different to their recent offerings. They've been starting to repeat showcasing the same set of artists and genre. So going electronic was refreshing. :)
Touche. :D
Hehehee... Colin Chapman had absolutely no qualms about commercialising the Lotus name - in fact, he was one of the first to do it in F1.
Pavlyuchenkova tennis clothes are smaller than my swimsuit...
The Belgian SPC Debrief is out :D
http://sidepodcast.com/post/f1-debrief-they-404ed-their-driver
50minutes. Not too bad, although I loved de 1h15min hehe
Heh. Fair point. But I do think opening up to sponsors is different to making one-off Lotuses that don't really contribute to the brand. Do you see Ferrari making special one-off editions of their car, for example? I mean, they do make customized ones for paying customers, but that's not really as a marketing exercise, which this one is.
When have Ferrari ever had to market anything?
Googled it. For a second there, I thought Group Lotus made that one too. :D
Exactly. Do luxury car manufacturers need to market their wares? I don't see Lambo doing it, or Bugatti. They stay above that.
When did they bring in Mohammed Al-Fayed? #footballreference
That was what I first though hahaha
I've only ever seen Lambo in GT sportscar racing. For ages, I thought Bugatti had gone under such is their utter silence in the car and motorsport industry.
May I try GT5 again? I would like to archive Vettel's Prototype, but it seems unreachable...
(Video) Electric car sets record at the Nordschleife.
http://www.caranddriverthef1.com/coches/planeta-motor/toyota-bate-el-record-electricos-en-nurburgring-video
It didn't stop Lambo from selling cars, though. Also, the Bugatti Veyron got a lot of publicity with nary an ad - because they made a very good car. If Lotus want to be treated seriously as a luxury carmaker, I think they should act like one and stay above the marketing fray, letting the cars speak for themselves.
.
...they would ditch Bahar.
;)
Hahahahaha! Touche. :D
Listening to the Motorsport Magazine podcast with Murray now. Has anyone listened to this?
Annoying echo, though.
Brilliant podcast - easily their best. Didn't get an echo though.
Ta! Listening to it now, then will listen to the Debrief tomorrow. :)
Rightio. Operation tidy up is go. Wish me luck. I'm going in!!
Where do we reckon I could buy those collapsible plastic boxes to put stuff in to move?
Ladies and gentleman. 8'38 min in the Norschleife, in the rain and with a Mercedes SLS.
Not too good, but enough for me :D (goal was 8:30)
Nice to have met you.
Can I make a suggestion to Mr.C and Christine?
Could you make a videopodcast when Vettel wins the Championship (I could have said 'when someone', but we all know who's going to win)?
Like the Debriefs, but with images.
I've seen the Parade videos, they were great. There's one very funny with a strange juice hehehe
been there, done that:
http://sidepodcast.com/post/inside-track-2009-season-preview
video's are sadly too expensive to scale. we can't afford to do them anyone.
F1M ping: http://www.f1minute.com/news/f1-teams-unsure-drs-effect-monza
I was so excited by the promise of the video f1 minutes. I was just thinking about that again earlier today. That was super cool, shame it's just not practical.
I have only just found this so don't be mad that the offer has just ended but apparently Midas Green Tech regularly do offers like this which might take some of the load off: http://www.midasgreentech.com/
agreed. the problem with those is we need a studio setup permanently. we can't build it every day or several times a day and we have no room for a fixed set up. might do some more for fun during the off-season or something. good to experiment.
Bunker, bunker, bunker.
if we take five years off to build a bunker, f1 might be back on the bbc :)
Ooh actually Mr C There is a promo code that will get you the 1TB / month free if it makes sense: http://midasgreentech.com/5by5/
If you're gonna a build a bunker,
Then you better hunker,
Down and do it!
oooh.
Hmmm, the Canadian Snowbirds are at the CNE airshow in Toronto, doing their show. I know this as the two Solos are flying overhead some 57 air kilometers away while the other seven are doing the actual show.
Kind of annoying that my home is used as an offstage area of an airshow although....
We'll make a 5by5 listener out of you yet :)
Get Kevin McCloud in there!! :D
heheh.
you still need to pay $35 a month for a base server, and i can't see what you pay when you go over 1TB, but it's worth investigting.
i'll end up with a bunker and christine will end up with a bump. #babymaker
[Engage Strange Accent]
Despite the house being underground there are many signs of personality here, from the home studio, to the posters of F1 and Pandas on the wall, but the question remains, who would live in a bunker like this :)
Enjoy a little something from the Sidepodcast back catalogue.

I think Mr C is the one who would confidently say at the beginning of the show, "yes I'm going to project manage this myself"
"we were looking to save some money, and an architect seemed excessive. i've never managed anything like this before, but i have a pencil and a ruler."
I mean how hard could it be?
I built a house out of lego once. Easy.
I'm thinking I need one of these...
https://www.dropcam.com/
by that measure. building a rocket ship should be a piece of cake.
yes! leo has one: https://www.dropcam.com/demo/1c195f8865a140ecaf493ad3fe8f2630
hello hello!
Is there still that vast hole at (the former) Darlington Circuit that you may be able to fill in with a pre-fab bunker and then just add add the soli to cover it over with.?
Mmmm Lego!
Oooh that reminds me... I know #nochristmas and all but I have got these for me and Kat:

We all know Mr. C does a great job project managing the pizza making.
Wotcha
There is a new Lego shop near the Apple Store in Cardiff and so far, I haven't not been in it since my trips to cardiff since it was built.
A lego shop!!!
That's where I heard about it. Mmmm.... Streaming
alex, looking at the midas thing, we need more than 40GB of disk space, so that means the silver package. at $70 a month, even with 1TB free, it's still out of our range unless we think about dropping some archived shows or something.
How does that work?
"at home with alex and family"
Shame sorry, I should have looked more into it, I just heard free bandwidth and thought... Oooh oooh Mr C!
Lego shops are awesome and extremely dangerous to my wallet.
it's the best deal of that kind, we've just painted ourselves into the worlds tightest corner. ambitious but bad at planning.
can't see a bunker being an issue though. where's that paint?
I'm not sure... I think you get a bit a day to help build a scene
Just thought I should mention now that making a bunker bigger once you live in it is not easy. Just thought I'd mention that now :)
According to the description, there are 24 christmas gifts in that box. Don't ask me what they are hehe
:)
I got Nick a Lego advent calendar last year. It's EPIC!!!
Each window has a little thing in it that you put together and it builds up a whole scene over the month. Mega amazing!
Christine if Mr C ever says to you, "actually I don't think we'll ever really need a [insert name here] room in our bunker", to you remind him of this :)
Nick is the luckiest man to have ever lived. :(
Noted.
This is clearly true :D
Why do you say that with a sad emoticon? :)
I don;t care if it's August. I'd have a lego advent calendar now!
it's not even august! But I'd still have one!
Hahahaha
16 seconds. That was a fast move! hahaha
Today's google doodle could quite possible be the best thing on the internet.
(behind sidepodcast)
There must be a group of people whose work is to create thoose doodles... Congrats to them.
one day, it'll be a feature length film.
It's not on google.com, at least for me, all I get is some boring labor day flag :), but google.co.uk loads it right up.
Slightly short notice, can anyone else do tomorrow's daily, am currently in the middle of decorating and am computerless!
I've played the GT5 for almost 2 hours and now I've just turned on my tv.
Annie nd Sciavone are still playing, third set.
if ya wanna start making some real cash in the game, do the seasonal events.
Thanks, I know :)
Now I must earn money, to buy the Formula GT. I am stuck at the 24 level, but we'll carrie on.
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/tweets-of-the-week-who-would-you-want-at-the-after-party
Schiapove breaks and now we're 4-4 in the third set (7-5 and 6-3, the others)
I'm sure we can find someone, no problemo.
"All the singles ladies, all the single ladies..."
US Open music. You had never heard those hits before, or did you?
There's nothing more funny than F1's podium song :D
Annie will win this game... 5-3 and she wins by 30-0.
And I remember that at the beggining I said Schiapove would win
Schiavone has just tried to kill Annie with tennis ball...
ooh, it's on eurosport now. not sure we can afford to renew subscription at the moment. sounds fun though.
Yes, I am watching this thanks to a subscription (one of those where you buy 100 channels).
Annie Whatever has won the match,
we have to ipad app, it's good but we never get the most from it.
In terms of motorsport, Le Mans is the big thing of Eurosport' annual calendar. Next year I'll try to stay awake all the day.
Evening all
Does Christine know Diego Forlan has moved to a new team?
Good evening Steven
Is she a fan of him? Now hi is in italy, i think.
Selena and Ivanovic are on the main court yard... I think they scream a bit, i don't know...
She became a fan during the world cup. He moved to Milan to play for Inter. Then after he moved there Inter discovered he could not play in the Champions League because he already played in the Europa League this season
There was a time when he was very very very close to move to Barcelona. But finally que didn't.
Good player, although he is becoming old.
Tipsarevic glasses look like Alonso's ones. He only needs the stadium-size cap.
He was supposed to be moving to England after the world cup but it didn't happen. He is one of those players who has been associated with moves to all sorts of clubs
He was also very close to Spurs but noooo, they didn't want £12 million for a 33 year old.
Eto'o is the man. 30 million for moving to a russian team. 20 million par year. 3 year contracto.

I don't have any really cool Freddie Mercury stuff
....yet
A cousin of mine is a die-hard fan of him.
What kind of a rule is that?
Players who have played a European competition with a club can't compit for an other team in that season in the European competitons
They are making it up as they go, Indycar have taught them well. :p
:D
Only lasts until the knockout rounds.
I thought it lasted for the whole season. I may be wrong... It explains many things
Only if its in the same competition.
Players are only allowed to represent one team in European competitions in any season. It's a standard rule in any football cup competitions. If a club signs a player who has played in the FA cup for another team earlier in the season he cannot represent them in that competition.
It stops teams in the late stages of cup competitions signing up a lot of top players who can then go back to their previous clubs after the cup is finished. Transfer windows now make that impossible but there was a time.....
Maybe I should mention that to BT
I may be the only one: The night of the city turns me sad. The same happens with the rain.
I see
Hehehe I'm not sure what causes it but that varying volume of hold music is something that I experience quite often tbh.
It is annoying and on hold music generally is bad but BT's is awful
What's hillarious is when you call companies that seem to have their own radio channel entirely for when you're on hold to them. One of our work suppliers has this. Tells you something about how long they're expecting to keep you on hold....
By this I mean it's updated v regularly (more than daily) with news, weather etc. Such an odd use of resources.
You know that Malbranque story I put in yesterdays daily? Well... http://twitter.com/#!/danwalkerbbc/statuses/110788149000671232
*scratches head*
How very, very odd...
I know.
Full story... http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5jYjcTA-r74Z30e0B9o0KVAYoP4GQ?docId=N0209331315246620054A
I haven't had that in a long time
We've already decided my work is straight out the 80's though so.... :D
At least when they say they are going to put you on hold you don't instantly dread the same awful piece of music you have heard a thousand times
"the Frenchman does not have a son and that no member of his immediate family is in ill health"
whut?
Hmmmm I do have to stand there for 10 minutes listening to inane drivel though. No worse than talking to the customers though eh ;)
The worst part is it is always a song you like to hear being played that they decide to answer your call....
I just realised. Forlan has an F1 connection now because Inter are sponsored by Pirelli and the blue used on the inter tyres is the Inter blue
Looks like di Resta is taking over ASI. On the Autosport stage and theF1 grid and driving in the live action

Darn. I was going to ask a question about movie marches (theme songs that you can actually march to) that are awesome and not written by John Williams, but I think Ihave answered it with either "Blade Runner" or "The Right Stuff"....
But boy, that John Williams fella sure has made a hell of a lot of awesome songs over the years....
Jenson Button is opening a restaurant! http://twitter.com/#!/JensonButton/status/110781753307828224 How odd that it's in Harrogate
I guess whoever is running the restaurant is from that area and Jenson is just putting money in
Looks like being the first of many according to the restaurant website. His retirement plan post McLaren?
I always find it amazing that we know so little about the businesses drivers invest in. You would think they would want the publicity
Oh dear. I have just looked up the shop I've agreed to go and work in on Google street view. Should really have done that before. It's even bigger than the one I'm in now, over just as many floors. Looks even busier *cries*
I think that having heard Jenson talk about how wonderful it is to have a home in Japan it's a bit odd to choose the UK to launch your business unless he isn't big in Japan
Is it somewhere in Southampton?
They'll spend time in both places I'm sure
Just outside. We don't operate in Soton itself. Plans to open early next year I think.

I must have missed something, Jenson's grid position was the team's fault... I thought he said he misunderstood
I used to live in Southampton whilst studing for a PG degree, loved the place, I'd go back in a minute to live there
#sidepodspace
Someone has made a film about the disasters that happened to Apollo 18. I thought the only disaster that happened to it was that it was cancelled like all the others after 17. No according to the film.
http://www.space.com/12748-apollo-18-theatrical-trailer.html
They are making great progress with the spaceport
http://www.space.com/12810-spaceport-america-construction-commercial-space-travel.html
I'm really looking forward to moving there. It looks like an awesome place to live. The studying I'm not so sure about but....
Oh I'm sure you'll be fine, you have an advantage in that you know it's what you want to do
You're going to the good uni I hope, and not the bad one in town that I went to. Bad experiences meant I didn't like the city very much, the only thing I liked was being independent from home. Heard lots of better things about the other one. Better location, atmosphere, courses..
Hah! I'm having a very intense moment of uncertainty!! :D
Wonder if that was a case of 'grass is greener' though :)
Have you sorted out accommodation?
Probably is, I am going to Southampton University though yeah.
Did you say what shop it is? Wondering if I know it or if it is worth driving the 90 minutes to harrass you for a discount. :)
The part that you missed was calling Jenson's position in Spa the team's fault I say McLaren wanted to ensure Hamilton was ahead of Button under circumstances that should have had Button blown Hamilton out of the water. As everyone is saying, Button got screwed. If your McLaren, you do not screw a driver like that by accident, you are just too good a team for that. That only leaves that what McLaren did was done by design....
No discounts available I'm afraid. Not even for staff. MEANIES!
Cue conspiracy theory, I don't buy into that one
I'm staying in uni accommodation.
I really hope you have a wonderful time, I'm kinda jealous
Sounds like nonsense. Why would they make themselves a laughing stock on purpose?
I remember when Heikki was Lewis's tea mates there were a lot of people who thought the team was totally biased to Lewis and they didn't want their second driver to win. The theory was the team would not sign a proven winner as his team mate because Lewis ran the team
Boo
Yeah should be a good time. The common and the centre of town are really nice places in spring/summer especially.
Simple to ensure Hamilton get a better grid positon than Button. Button should have been able to cobber Hamilton in wet conditions, right? Maybe Hamilton a little more on the edge than we think he is and just needs to have it proven that the team is behind him 100%.
Like I said, McLaren is too good a team to screw up like that....So there's another reason for that.
And what laughing stock. Hamilton got 2nd place right.....so that's good.
Although I would have expected Button to get pole by more than a second in those conditions, if McLaren really wanted the two drivers to race.
Why? Lewis seems pretty good in the wet to me
The whole everything that Button has as advantages - the smoother driver, the ability to drive the car under changeable conditions, the wet weather weather expect and all that stuff.
Plus Hamilton is going though a bit of a rough spell with all the incidents he has had.
So create a situation where the favoured driver has a better gird position then his teammate and see teh boast inthe ego it gives him. It turned out well, Hamilton got 2nd place right?
Button who?
Button seems to make good calls in changeable conditions but I don't think in actual driving ability in those conditions he is any better than Lewis.
True
I don't believe McLaren would do that deliberately. Even if the management wanted to do that why would Button's engineer do it?
The same thing happened to diResta and it is not in FIF1's interest to take the pressure off Sutil
The same reason why we all listen to bosses who's decisions we disagree with. It pays the bills.
am writing the daily today. it will be late as always.
I think a small part of me just died.
THAT is were the theory falls apart :-D
I've spent some of the evening updating my YouTube channel with a few things from last year's Silverstone 1000km. They are quite short but since they aren't very good I didn't stitch them together to make a long one. I'd planned to get around to writing about it (after 51 weeks..) but since I couldn't link to videos which weren't there I busied myself with uploading. :)
I also discovered Picasa can output photo slideshows as video so we'll see if that looks okay in a blog post. Hopefully I'll write that Tuesday or Wednesday.
Anyway here's the channel.
Trust me, save yourself the ticket price
Poor quality sci-fi trading on hype of pretending to be true story
I watched the trailer and it couldn't look more fake. Either that or the moon has acquired a lot more gravity than it had before
spoiler alert: rocks being pulled around by strings do not make scary aliens
Unless the aliens are pulling the strings
aliens should have acid for blood and burst out of John Hurt's chest, not spend the afternoon making string puppet rocks
:D
