Hello, welcome to Thursday. Nearly there. Just one more day until F1 track action and two days until most of us get to see some of it. Not long now. The break is nearly over.

F1 This Weekend

We may well see the final Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park this weekend. Opinions seem to be divided between those who are glad a 'Tilke track' is gone and those who think this was one of his better designs. I'm in the latter camp. It was a shame they didn't 'do a China' and change the pricing structure to suit the local market, it worked in Shanghai this year. The DRS zone is in a weird location though because the long straight-with-a-corner-in-it is already a very good passing area anyway, the cars don't need help there. I'd have put it on the pit straight where the cars just about get side by side before backing off, that's where they need help.

Do read these fine previews:

Other Racing This Weekend

There is plenty else to be excited about this weekend. A full plate of racing. A smorgasbord of motorsport!

  • GP2 Istanbul Park - the first round of the GP2 'Main' Series as well as GP3.
  • ILMC & LMS Spa-Francorchamps - the 6 Hours at Spa is the last big sportscar race before Le Mans and Audi will debut their new car! This race is on Saturday and was moved especially so as not to clash with the Grand Prix. Check out this huge entry list, which I've linked in French because endurance racing should always be in French.
  • GT1 Portimao - it seems odd that a GT1 race is on the same weekend as the huge ILMC race, some drivers (and media) like to do both, this has to be a bad decision for GT1 and the FIA, especially since it is up against the FIA's other big series (F1 and WRC).
  • WRC Italy - a visit to Sardinia with the debut of the new MINI in full WRC-spec, that'll be worth keeping an eye on.
  • World Superbike Monza - this could be fun, I imagine they must still have slipstreaming at Monza with the bikes.
  • NASCAR Cup Darlington - One of the classic NASCAR venues where drivers are still challenged, something of an egg shape to it.. The race is on Saturday night (really Sunday morning UK time). Nationwide runs on Friday.

Why on earth would you want to go outside? If you want to know more about when these events take place, I'll have a post on my site tonight highlighting the race start times for all of them.

Bits And Pieces

I wrote that header and *flashback* it reminded me of the old Radio 1 Roadshow game, Bits & Pieces, where they'd play out clips from several songs, then the contestant has to guess the names of all the songs in a time limit.. if I could write Dailies like RG I could've done that here.

Alex has been recording a 'how to' video for Sidepodcast, I could link to it here but I believe it'll appear in a forthcoming post, so do look out for that soon if you want to make the most of the site's features.

One of the great things I often forget about the 'European' races (even if they are just within Asia, like the Turkish track) is the annual debut of the team trucks and motorhomes. We'll see a full paddock again! None of these flyaway crates and distant detached offices. I'm looking forward to seeing some new schmoozing palaces like the McLaren starship or the Red Bull Energy Station, and perhaps even some new team truck liveries too. Even Pirelli are getting in on the act! (I wonder if they bought it from Bridgestone?)

Gavin found this great trailer for a new film about a pioneer of the Bonneville salt flats, it is well worth watching and I hope the film becomes generally accessible.

Maverick had the great idea of honouring Istanbul Park by picking his favourite Turn 8s from around the world.

If you saw the BBC Royal Wedding coverage and also have an Autosport.com Plus subscription, check out Bamber's Week.

The IndyCar team owners are reportedly going to lobby Randy Bernard, Tony Cotman et al to defer the 'aero kit' rules a year to 2013, meaning we'll only see a basic car next year. It'll still be an improvement on the current car but we won't have the twist of competition. Robin Miller broke the story, some were saying the other night it may even have been leaked by Bernard to show the team bosses what the reaction would be - he's done it before.

Both Miller's story and the IndyCar.com homepage have fan votes, do use them to say whether you are happy with the deferral or not, they do pay attention to them and decisions have already been made this year based on IndyCar.com and SpeedTV.com fan votes! The proposed lucky dog rule was abandoned because of them, and double-file restarts were persisted with for longer because of them. All that said, if you look at the current vote counts they have totally different outcomes, perhaps they shouldn't base crucial decisions on fan votes?

Speaking of votes, there is a referendum and some local and regional elections in the UK today. If you fear the mighty Delete button, as you well should, it would be better to keep talk about those to Twitter and Facebook (and those who don't like politics may want to avoid those sites tonight).

Shall we have some music? It has been a while since I included a song in the Daily and I hope you like this one.

My Latest Novel - I Declare A Ceasefire

Do also listen to The Hope Edition from their other album. I recommend both albums if you like this sort of thing.

I like that YouTube has introduced artist pages linking to tracks that are available, you can find the one for My Latest Novel here and it features a selection from both albums although some are live versions - it might be better to click the YouTube Mix on the side.

Have a good day!

Try saying that 5 times fast. :)

Poll is now who's your pick to win the Indy 500. Aero-kit poll gone. #IndyCar

nice daily Pat, never knew there was so much racing this weekend!

I am all about the F1 and the tennis this weekend of course :)

Going to skip my tea break and go home early tomorrow so I can miss none of FP1, plus its always nice to leave early on a Friday. This week has gone so fast!

Oh, I reallly don't think Thursday can suck as much as Monday through Wednesday this week, but I shouldn't dare it like that.

What's the latest with the launch?

  • Steven Roy05/05/2011 at 01:40

What's the latest with the launch?

The earliest possible date now is the 10th. They removed the control box and found a fuse that had failed but they don't know what caused it. It could be anyone of a number of things anywhere in the shuttle

    So the systematic checks begin.

  • Steven Roy05/05/2011 at 01:46

    So the systematic checks begin.

They have replaced the box with a new one and now they have to try to see what works and what doesn't. No doubt they have to run multiple tests to make sure there are no intermittent faults. The 10th is the earliest possible date but it is not remotely certain

  • Jordan F105/05/2011 at 01:46

Hello is Mr. C still around ?

Podcast is proper not the right word. I have a text based story based apon the binned idea of positive reviews for the various circuits. Reember how both RG and myself picked Montreal ?

Well, I have sort of turned it into So what should somebody do if someone has more than three days to kill in Montreal around the time of the Grand Prix ? The Premiss is the Sidepodcast Air crew is on layover in Montreal-Dorval airport and bored out of there minds...

Indeed - of course not many know he was the movie version of the First Doctor

  • Alex Andronov05/05/2011 at 09:03

So has the F1 season started yet?

I was amazed at the bit when they brought Kimi Raikonnen back from the trucks at the end... ooops ;)

you've been in Denmark for aaaages, I don't get why you can't drive there.

Even I can drive in Europe :D

  • Alex Andronov05/05/2011 at 09:04

Indeed - of course not many know he was the movie version of the First Doctor

The movies were touted as being influential on Moffat. But to me it's the Douglas Adams era that's most influential on him.

  • Pat W05/05/2011 at 09:04

the NZ driving age is going up after years of argument.

I'd be sooo mad if I was 11 years younger :D

    16 is still young

  • Christine05/05/2011 at 09:04

The movies were touted as being influential on Moffat. But to me it's the Douglas Adams era that's most influential on him.

And, judging by this season, LOST.

  • RubberGoat05/05/2011 at 09:04

you've been in Denmark for aaaages, I don't get why you can't drive there.

Because I have to start again and it costs over a thousand quid to learn. And we didn't have a car until one month ago..

(though we can't discuss it yet of course)

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 09:05

    16 is still young

definitely, when I look back and realise I had my full license at 16 and a half I go 'my, that was young'

  • Nick05/05/2011 at 09:05

I'd better write that post now then!

    OOPs! Sorry :)

so how is that NZs fault that you can't drive in Denmark?

  • RubberGoat05/05/2011 at 09:08

so how is that NZs fault that you can't drive in Denmark?

No idea. Kiwis can't drive apparently.

The rules are that an EU Licence is allowed, a Russian Licence requires a written test and everyone else has to do lessons and then a driving test.

  • Leigh O'Gorman05/05/2011 at 09:08

Oooh, yay, now men don't need a handbag.

I have been using my 13" laptop bag and calling it my "iPad bag". Some people have suggested that it is a man bag, I have countered by saying that it can only be a man bag if it has in it some kind of cleansing product or tissues. A briefcase isn't a man bag is it? So as long as the bag is just holding an iPad then it's an iPad bag.

But maybe I can do away with the bag entirely now :)

  • RubberGoat05/05/2011 at 09:12

Loved this comment on the site:

"Pretty surprising that India would be much of a market for speed/death metal"

Eehhhh... Metallica are not, nor have they ever been even more remotely close to speed / death metal - they are very, very, very, very different from Metallica's brash brand of radio friendly hair metal.

  • Alex Andronov05/05/2011 at 10:07

Christine... (or anyone really) do you have a list of all of the qualifying start times for the season? I know I can find them in Calendar... But I wondered if there was a list written out?

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 10:07

    I want a lottery win.

I tried to buy my winning ticket today and they wouldnt accept my credit card. Then I tried again. Then I tried again. Then they said they were contacting my bank to make sure I wasn't using stolen details. Gah. It's not like I haven't bought tickets from them with that card before!

Everytime theres a major prize on offer their website buckles under the demand.

orrr I could have just coughed up the $130 to see Metallica when they were here about 6 months ago. I decided I like them but I don't like them as much as I did 10 years ago so $130 was too much :)

I could understand it for things like Muse - their stage with its videos and stuff was ridiculous.

The Backstreet Boys on the other hand looked like they were performing on a box to a backing CD :D They were cheaper than Muse, but not much.

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 10:17

often the local bands playing in the clubs and pubs offer better shows and for much less money that those big expensive ones ...

thats why with the big expensive ones I generally only go and see people that I've loved for years and years and years and have always dreamed of seeing. It's always been well worth it in the end.

  • Leigh O'Gorman05/05/2011 at 10:17

    That's rarely true

Different situation altogether. Muse will dictate the price, whereas BB will have next to no choice and are probably on a wage

Fleetwood Mac did a pretty awesome simple setup too.

You say that as an attendee, but were you able to have a good look at the itinerary and other equipment used. What you call "simple" could be quite sophisticated behind the scenes

I'm not even sure what we're arguing about, I'm happy to pay $130 for things I want to see and I get that touring isn't cheap :D

Not arguing. I'll agree that some tickets are probably too expensive, but I'm also trying to relay that sometimes tickets are expensive for a reason.

Does it include free travel to all the non-London venues? The train I usually take to London just happens to start at the sailing venue.. :)

  • Nick05/05/2011 at 10:40

If you removed that stuff you'd notice - and so would everyone else

I disagree, last year i saw chicane play with about half the stuff other bands take and it was brilliant.

If you need a ll that stuff then how were there succesfull concerts in the past?

Im pretty sure the beatles didnt take thousands of people with them

Spectators with a ticket for a Games event in London will receive a one-day Games Travelcard for the day of that event. Games events include all ticketed sporting events and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The Games Travelcard will entitle you to travel within zones 1–9 on the London public transport network throughout the day of your event.

Spectators with tickets for Games events at Eton Dorney, the Lee Valley White Water Centre and Hadleigh Farm will receive a Games Travelcard for use on public transport in London on the day of their event. Spectators will also be able to use their Games Travelcard to travel by National Rail between London and the recommended stations for those venues. No additional fare will be payable.

The Backstreet Boys on the other hand looked like they were performing on a box to a backing CD :D They were cheaper than Muse, but not much.

Different situation altogether. Muse will dictate the price, whereas BB will have next to no choice and are probably on a wage

A quick lookup of BB: "Backstreet Boys played in Australia more than two years back and organizers promoters has still no idea how much profit, if any, the tour made." Feb '11

    I found where they're mentioned

London 2012 ticket holders for events at co-Host City venues will not receive a Games Travelcard to use on public transport. These venues are: Weymouth and Portland; the City of Coventry Stadium, Coventry; Old Trafford, Manchester; Millennium Stadium, Cardiff; Hampden Park, Glasgow; and, St James’ Park, Newcastle.

    I didn't, but I do now...

  • Alex Andronov05/05/2011 at 11:13

So you don't think it's a tad unprofessional?

Is it her twitter account or is it the company's name's account?

Which actually brings in another thing which is about Jake Humphrey using his own twitter account on the BBC which seems actually weirder than this.

But regardless... in my mind you would follow somebody in F1 for information if you thought they were professional and responsible... and if you think this is unprofessional then why would you keep following them?

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 11:14

i know, but you also know EXACTLY why he was tweeting it and who it was meant for :)

I never got that from it just because everyone else was writing the same stuff. Makes sense now though :)

    I do agree though. :D

  • Mr C05/05/2011 at 11:15

So you don't think it's a tad unprofessional?

the only example i can think of is geoff from virgin, who's tweeting under the guise of an f1 team, but then also as an individual. i don't know yet where to stand on the idea of a whole entity having a single personality.

conversely, williams tweets are less fun now claire is sharing duties. so a tricky one.

  • RubberGoat05/05/2011 at 11:16

Is it her twitter account or is it the company's name's account?

    Hers.

Which actually brings in another thing which is about Jake Humphrey using his own twitter account on the BBC which seems actually weirder than this.

Which is where the confusion lies... he uses a personal account as his professional one...

But regardless... in my mind you would follow somebody in F1 for information if you thought they were professional and responsible... and if you think this is unprofessional then why would you keep following them?

Because you enjoy their tweets and they might reply back? I don't look to Em for F1 info really, but she does tweet a lot about the drivers she looks after, which is interesting...

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 11:16

    speaking of individuals and teams,

this tweet from @clubforce confused me

Morning all, it's Will at the track and it's a damp start to our #F1 weekend. Adrian, Paul and Nico will need jackets for the track walk!

Will who? Have we met? Are you their new PR person who is starting full time as of this race? Did I miss an introduction?

I think he realised (or was told?) it might not always be a good idea so he started his own account (and sometimes crosses wires between them :) ). I like that he still tweets from Virgin in the first person, far more interesting.

Which is where the confusion lies... he uses a personal account as his professional one...

In all fairness though, Jake keeps himself in check

  • Alex Andronov05/05/2011 at 11:19

Mav forgot to say thanks for the link earlier :)

  • Pat W05/05/2011 at 11:19

I personally would prefer ClaireFromWilliams or for her to use her own account. Then have a Williams Twitter account that automatically retweets any on topic comments.

That's what Team Lotus does and it works really well. And the team a/c is also first-person sometimes.

  • Maverick05/05/2011 at 11:22

Mav forgot to say thanks for the link earlier :)

    Did I?

    Oh, missing comma :-)

  • Christine05/05/2011 at 11:24

Part of the beauty of Twitter, though, is how many different ways people use it. Fascinating.

  • Mr C05/05/2011 at 11:24

Not so much unprofessional as unfathomable?

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 11:26

last thought for the day. does anyone think the way ferrari use twitter is unprofessional. if so has anyone unfollowed them?

I unfollowed them not because I found them unprofessional but because I found them boring. I dont like when every single tweet is just a link to something to read elsewhere.

  • Leigh O'Gorman05/05/2011 at 11:26

Unprofessional - not thought about it in that sense. Entertaining, yes.

Oh, they link now? I must have stopped following them before they grasped that concept :)

  • Christine05/05/2011 at 11:27

"WE deserved the podium with Fernando...."

That's not unprofessional. Childish and petulant, but teams are like that sometimes.

  • Mr C05/05/2011 at 11:27

Unprofessional - not thought about it in that sense. Entertaining, yes.

but they tweet just like a sulky teenager too :)

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 11:28

Oh, they link now? I must have stopped following them before they grasped that concept :)

I think I did too but I checked in again after that we deserved the podium thing just to see if they'd gotten more entertaining. That one was amazingly entertaining but the rest of it, nope :D

  • Mr C05/05/2011 at 11:28

That's not unprofessional. Childish and petulant, but teams are like that sometimes.

they wouldn't but that in a press release though.

  • Leigh O'Gorman05/05/2011 at 11:28

Yes, but they tweet like that character Kevin from the Harry Enfield show

  • Journeyer05/05/2011 at 11:29

they wouldn't but that in a press release though.

The same team that released the Horse Whisperer memos? :P

seems pretty minor now when you compare it alongside Real Madrid

  • Mr C05/05/2011 at 11:29

Yes, but they tweet like that character Kevin from the Harry Enfield show

how is that different from WillEm?

  • Maverick05/05/2011 at 11:29

    Real Madrid would

    do tell?

    I think they would.

  • Nick05/05/2011 at 11:30

    Are you sure?

  • Mr C05/05/2011 at 11:30

    I think they would.

    fair enough :)

  • Maverick05/05/2011 at 11:30

    do tell?

they've got the entire team claiming a great UEFA conspiracy because they lost to Barcelona

  • Leigh O'Gorman05/05/2011 at 11:30

Ferrari's petulance is minor compared to the break-up of a family, which is bitter rather than childish

  • Pat W05/05/2011 at 11:31

I had withdrawals today. I really must find that phone.

I've trained myself to only use it on evenings and weekends. Had to do that with the comments too on busy days (today is not a busy day :D)

  • Mr C05/05/2011 at 11:32

Ferrari's petulance is minor compared to the break-up of a family, which is bitter rather than childish

    i'm sure they don't think it's childish.

i like that social media brings you closer to f1, so you can find out what real people are really like. everybody's idea of 'too close' will vary though.

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 11:33

I've trained myself to only use it on evenings and weekends. Had to do that with the comments too on busy days (today is not a busy day :D)

It's not too bad because generally when I'm at work Europe is asleep. I like to have it with me so I can get alers for my personal emails though, imagine if I'd had to wait an extra 7 hours to find that email from Air Asia :D

  • Christine05/05/2011 at 11:34

i like that social media brings you closer to f1, so you can find out what real people are really like. everybody's idea of 'too close' will vary though.

It goes back to the private/personal life thing.

It would be unprofessional if InsideFerrari started tweeting about their marriage breakup or whatever.

WillEm use their personal accounts, and have blurred the lines by also using them for professional things, but it's their private life and if they want to plaster it all over Twitter, that's their call.

They're not being unprofessional, but tasteful is another matter!

My advice would be skewed by the fact I keep knocking back people who offer to run with me. I don't like the idea of running with someone else, I like to go at my pace, speed up when I want to, slow down when I want to, having someone else to think about would suck #selfish

@byronf1: Massa, asked when Ferrari could catch up with the leaders, talked for three minutes and said....... practically nothing informative.

Inevitable question to Lewis about the triple apex Turn 8 where he usually wrecks his tyres because he's so fast zzzzzzzz

Petrov answering a question. Still can't understand his Russian accent. Something about killing James Bond and world domination I think.

    pretzels?

  • RubberGoat05/05/2011 at 13:07

I'm a bit partial to pork scratchings myself...

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 13:07

    Shapes & KFC?

KFC is a no, that was 2009 :D

Shapes don't appeal to me enough to eat 15 times :D

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 13:07

    pretzels?

I do like pretzels. I feel like something that tastes really bad for me though :D

Maybe cake. Maybe I could try a different cake every race. Oooh the obesity.

  • Nick05/05/2011 at 13:08

Shapes don't appeal to me enough to eat 15 times :D

    Dominos?

You could start With a margherita and add an ingredient for each race.

*might get a bit expensive by the end*

  • RubberGoat05/05/2011 at 13:10

*might get a bit expensive by the end*

  • Pat W05/05/2011 at 13:10

2010 was the year of free practice donuts, does the comments have any suggestions?

I've started snacking on bags of nuts and dried fruit. Healthier than chocolate. But you eat the whole thing because its not filling.. not sure if that's a bad thing

  • Amy05/05/2011 at 13:10

    Dominos?

delivery pizza is another thing that I only eat about twice a year because I wait until I really, really, really want it.

Good suggestions though, I might have to have a Sidepodbinge one day and try all of them at once :D

I'm not a big fan of BBQ flavour anything. I'm boring and always go for salt + vinegar or sour cream and onion. Sometimes I can't decide so I get a small tube of each. Damn you decisions.

Is it too late to get turkish pringles?

Sorta related - I have had a horrible song from an advert in my head. It's quiet here so it was swilling around and around. But a short blast of AC/DC seems to have fixed it!

yesterday when I left work. I unplugged my headphones from it because I decided to listen to my Kindle on the way home instead. I'm 100% sure I put it back in my bag after I unplugged the headphones because I was standing by the lift so the only other place I could have put it would be on the floor!

AT&T WILLIAMS INCREASES SOCIAL MEDIA FEATURES FOR 2011

As Formula One heads back to Europe, AT&T Williams is continuing to increase its interaction with its fans through the launch of a host of new social media features via www.attwilliams.com.

@WilliamsF1Team and its drivers, @rubarrichello and @PastorMaldo, will continue to provide behind the scenes information and updates from both the race track and factory in Grove (...)

The official team website at www.attwilliams.com is now also connected to Facebook. (...)

    Oh, nothing important. Just football

The last bit clashes with a Championship football game. Not that important but neither is a qualifying round.

It can if you don't follow Jake or read the comments here

That's what series links are for, if they don't work when the channel is different, maybe they should think abpout not messing with it for a one off show which could go on BBC 2 instead.

I realise footie will get more viewers but it's irritating

Probably not, do you have to manage it a lot?

I've noticed several spam posts floating around in the last few weeks, linked to big media stories. FB needs to get on top of it before people lose faith [those that have any with it]

  • Alex Andronov05/05/2011 at 17:09

While Sky's planner seems much much better at noticing big time shifts in tv series and over-running coverage than the virgin boxes... I believe neither of them can cope with a channel change.

Which is a bit rubbish. This is still less bad then when they changed channel mid broadcast without warning because that broke a lot of people.

  • Bassano05/05/2011 at 17:09

  • Alex Andronov05/05/2011 at 17:20

Which is a bit rubbish. This is still less bad then when they changed channel mid broadcast without warning because that broke a lot of people.

    True

I may be wrong but I seem to remember that it is because the series link information is created by the tv companies not sky and virgin as dvr box makers. And there is no central source of UUID (ids being handed out for series) so the channels get to make up their own series numbers and keep track of them and then just say this is the same program as that. Basically so that if BBC and ITV both have a new series starting they don't have to check with each other which one of them gets the ID for series id 27.

This was supposed to make things easier to differentiate between new series of Friends on Channel 4 and the endless reruns on E4. But of course they could have just grouped all of Channel 4's channels together and said to Channel 4 you make sure everything has separate channel numbers but... even at Channel 4 the channels operate quite separately... So...

What they should have done is made the spec call for a GUID which is a really big number where it is almost impossible for two numbers to be the same. Then everyone could just be creating their own GUIDs and entering them and then the box would be able to even pick up a series that moved to the Red Button (which is really just an extra channel that's hidden).

But they didn't ask me ;)

  • Mr C05/05/2011 at 17:23

In a mutation of the allergy for 2011, no less than three names are put forward for candidature: Mark Webber, a constant name on the list since the start of the year, then Jenson Button, joining the ranks in China and now, we also have Nico Rosberg. Needless to say, it is just rubbish, the sort that gives you really bad allergies.

    wha?

Rubens has said some words about the changes at Williams.. some pretty direct stuff. I suspect he's right too. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91131

"Sam is doing five or six jobs, so he's overloaded. It's too much for a single human being. He ends up achieving only half of his own capability doing his own job because he's overseeing other things.

"It's something that needs changing – Williams needs to work as a family, not keeping things to themselves and going to the press."

  • Mr C05/05/2011 at 17:29

    yay for massa!

FM: Everyone seems very impressed with the racing and the good fights, the overtaking and the influence of the rear wing, the KERS and the tyres. We drivers have always had fun on the track, but it’s important for the fans to see a really exciting show and it seems we are moving in a good direction on this front compared to last year

True - he's just targeting to hit 300 GPs this season.

But his mood does remind me of his blah-blah-blah outburst at Nurburgring 2009. Much more eloquent, but no less sulky.

  • Pat W05/05/2011 at 17:55

    Did that at Spa

He's the only thing keeping them afloat, I reckon. But it's not the end of the world. If MSC does stay at Mercedes for 2012 (and so far, it looks like he's intent to do so), one of Sutil, di Resta, and Hulkenberg will replace Rubens at Williams. I'd bet it's Sutil. There will be some interesting names floating there later (Massa? Heidfeld? Not Webber, though), but their worst-case scenario is having to reach for a GP2 driver again...

I'm sure it is. Goodness only knows where that is though... You've as much chance of finding that as me. I haven't seen it in weeks and annoyingly none of my housemates are registered so I can't look at theirs.

Did you know that S M L etc. vary measurably from country to country too. If I take a M here, it'd be L on the continent for example.

Actually, it's the other way round. Medium here is Small in the U.S.

  • Alison05/05/2011 at 20:46

Anyways, the simple reason that women's clothes don't work like mens is that there's too many measurements to take. You'd need 5000 different sizes to have enough combinations.

What if that meant that some people had no shops at all that stock clothes fitted to someone even roughly your shape? At least this way, you can shop around and something somewhere is bound to fit.

  • Bassano05/05/2011 at 20:50

What if that meant that some people had no shops at all that stock clothes fitted to someone even roughly your shape? At least this way, you can shop around and something somewhere is bound to fit.

What kind of craziness is this?

  • Alison05/05/2011 at 20:51

I'm not being funny but women come in many shapes as well as sizes.

They could just do varying shapes, same way they do regular or long trousers. If it has a number on it, it should be a real number not something arbitrary.

  • Bassano05/05/2011 at 20:52

I'm not being funny but women come in many shapes as well as sizes.

I'm aware of that, I just never considered it in relation to clothes buying

They should be like Clarke's shoes and have a number and a letter or something

  • Alex Andronov05/05/2011 at 20:54

They could just do varying shapes, same way they do regular or long trousers. If it has a number on it, it should be a real number not something arbitrary.

Exactly when I buy trousers I can choose waist, length, and pleat shape (which is code for essentially the ratio between hip width and waist). These numbers are pretty consistant.

This third bit doesn't really exist with women's trousers. Tres annoying. It's more like trial and error to find something that even vaguely fits.

Well there you go that's what I'm saying... As a friend on twitter has already pointed out to me it would be better if you could measure yourself and make it work, whereas the measurements refer to the amount of material currently. But once you find an amount of material and dimensions you would find it much easier to work out, "this is going to fit".

  • Bassano05/05/2011 at 20:59

Clearly I don't go to the right shops, never heard of that... :) Different cuts of jeans I know about

For trousers? I don't think I've ever had a pair of trousers that actually fit. My hips are way too tiny compared to my waist to everything always falls down :P I tend to just buy things from Tesco. If it's going to look stupid or fall off, it might as well be cheap :P
