Hello, welcome to Thursday. Nearly there. Just one more day until F1 track action and two days until most of us get to see some of it. Not long now. The break is nearly over.
F1 This Weekend
We may well see the final Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park this weekend. Opinions seem to be divided between those who are glad a 'Tilke track' is gone and those who think this was one of his better designs. I'm in the latter camp. It was a shame they didn't 'do a China' and change the pricing structure to suit the local market, it worked in Shanghai this year. The DRS zone is in a weird location though because the long straight-with-a-corner-in-it is already a very good passing area anyway, the cars don't need help there. I'd have put it on the pit straight where the cars just about get side by side before backing off, that's where they need help.
Do read these fine previews:

Other Racing This Weekend
There is plenty else to be excited about this weekend. A full plate of racing. A smorgasbord of motorsport!
- GP2 Istanbul Park - the first round of the GP2 'Main' Series as well as GP3.
- ILMC & LMS Spa-Francorchamps - the 6 Hours at Spa is the last big sportscar race before Le Mans and Audi will debut their new car! This race is on Saturday and was moved especially so as not to clash with the Grand Prix. Check out this huge entry list, which I've linked in French because endurance racing should always be in French.
- GT1 Portimao - it seems odd that a GT1 race is on the same weekend as the huge ILMC race, some drivers (and media) like to do both, this has to be a bad decision for GT1 and the FIA, especially since it is up against the FIA's other big series (F1 and WRC).
- WRC Italy - a visit to Sardinia with the debut of the new MINI in full WRC-spec, that'll be worth keeping an eye on.
- World Superbike Monza - this could be fun, I imagine they must still have slipstreaming at Monza with the bikes.
- NASCAR Cup Darlington - One of the classic NASCAR venues where drivers are still challenged, something of an egg shape to it.. The race is on Saturday night (really Sunday morning UK time). Nationwide runs on Friday.
Why on earth would you want to go outside? If you want to know more about when these events take place, I'll have a post on my site tonight highlighting the race start times for all of them.
Bits And Pieces
I wrote that header and *flashback* it reminded me of the old Radio 1 Roadshow game, Bits & Pieces, where they'd play out clips from several songs, then the contestant has to guess the names of all the songs in a time limit.. if I could write Dailies like RG I could've done that here.
Alex has been recording a 'how to' video for Sidepodcast, I could link to it here but I believe it'll appear in a forthcoming post, so do look out for that soon if you want to make the most of the site's features.
One of the great things I often forget about the 'European' races (even if they are just within Asia, like the Turkish track) is the annual debut of the team trucks and motorhomes. We'll see a full paddock again! None of these flyaway crates and distant detached offices. I'm looking forward to seeing some new schmoozing palaces like the McLaren starship or the Red Bull Energy Station, and perhaps even some new team truck liveries too. Even Pirelli are getting in on the act! (I wonder if they bought it from Bridgestone?)
Gavin found this great trailer for a new film about a pioneer of the Bonneville salt flats, it is well worth watching and I hope the film becomes generally accessible.
Maverick had the great idea of honouring Istanbul Park by picking his favourite Turn 8s from around the world.
If you saw the BBC Royal Wedding coverage and also have an Autosport.com Plus subscription, check out Bamber's Week.
The IndyCar team owners are reportedly going to lobby Randy Bernard, Tony Cotman et al to defer the 'aero kit' rules a year to 2013, meaning we'll only see a basic car next year. It'll still be an improvement on the current car but we won't have the twist of competition. Robin Miller broke the story, some were saying the other night it may even have been leaked by Bernard to show the team bosses what the reaction would be - he's done it before.
Both Miller's story and the IndyCar.com homepage have fan votes, do use them to say whether you are happy with the deferral or not, they do pay attention to them and decisions have already been made this year based on IndyCar.com and SpeedTV.com fan votes! The proposed lucky dog rule was abandoned because of them, and double-file restarts were persisted with for longer because of them. All that said, if you look at the current vote counts they have totally different outcomes, perhaps they shouldn't base crucial decisions on fan votes?
Speaking of votes, there is a referendum and some local and regional elections in the UK today. If you fear the mighty Delete button, as you well should, it would be better to keep talk about those to Twitter and Facebook (and those who don't like politics may want to avoid those sites tonight).
Shall we have some music? It has been a while since I included a song in the Daily and I hope you like this one.
My Latest Novel - I Declare A Ceasefire
Do also listen to The Hope Edition from their other album. I recommend both albums if you like this sort of thing.
I like that YouTube has introduced artist pages linking to tracks that are available, you can find the one for My Latest Novel here and it features a selection from both albums although some are live versions - it might be better to click the YouTube Mix on the side.
Have a good day!
A smorgasbord of motorsport!
Try saying that 5 times fast. :)
So I wrote that about the IndyCar.com poll and people are now tweeting about how the votes are going up way too quickly to be real... so let's see what they do about that
Poll is now who's your pick to win the Indy 500. Aero-kit poll gone. #IndyCar
Maverick had the great idea of honouring Istanbul Park by picking his favourite Turn 8s from around the world.
Thanks for the info about YouTube and artist pages. Nice daily, Pat.
I'm excited for the 6 hours of Spa!
Me too, hopefully it'll be easy to follow but we'll see.
Bedtime (already, that came around fast), see you tomorrow..
nice daily Pat, never knew there was so much racing this weekend!
I am all about the F1 and the tennis this weekend of course :)
Going to skip my tea break and go home early tomorrow so I can miss none of FP1, plus its always nice to leave early on a Friday. This week has gone so fast!
Tomorrow is Thursday not Friday. You are confusing me
Me too, we're stuck on the other side of this planet.
But if I wasn't here to report from the future how would you know what to expect?
Thursday sucks. Be prepared.
Today is the 50th anniversary of the first American going into space.
There are even stamps to celebrate
Later in his career he even played golf on the moon
Telling the future is fine but by the time it is any use to me I will have forgotten it.
Oh, I reallly don't think Thursday can suck as much as Monday through Wednesday this week, but I shouldn't dare it like that.
What's the latest with the launch?
The earliest possible date now is the 10th. They removed the control box and found a fuse that had failed but they don't know what caused it. It could be anyone of a number of things anywhere in the shuttle
So the systematic checks begin.
They have replaced the box with a new one and now they have to try to see what works and what doesn't. No doubt they have to run multiple tests to make sure there are no intermittent faults. The 10th is the earliest possible date but it is not remotely certain
Hello is Mr. C still around ?
That must be something the astronauts are used to, but what do you think they do with a week extra to hang around in gravity?
They went back to Houston a day or two after the launch was scrubbed and they go back into training. They also remain in partial quarantine with only an approved list of people having access to them
Not sure Jordan.
This includes Gabby Giffords' husband, right?
If he is not "a round" I will settle for "a -square" then.....
I have dumped a lot of my dive shots on flickr, as promised a while ago. Not the greatest, but then I blame the camera....
Yes. The pilot and him were back doing training flights the day after they flew back to Houston
I hope I can watch this one, whenever it takes place.
You could e-mail him the link as well as posting it in the comments
I hope we get a good crowd here for it
You mean like this?
I love this one
This is my fave.
Thanks for sharing your pics!
Which ones are you two talking about ?
Happy #RevengeOfThe5th! If you haven't taken over half of the Galaxy and killed a bunch of Jedi yet, you're a bit behind.
I love Death Star PR tweets.
The one looking up to the sun from beneath the water. Great perspective.
Yesterday was Star Wars and now the revenge of the 5th
I like the idea of going underwater to photograph the sky. I was very impressed with the underwater beer drinking
Well, if you want to salute Sidepodcast, do it right......!
I'd never heard of Star Wars day, is it May the 4th be with you?
It is the only way
Oh, the sky shot... Yeah, one of those split second decisions... It's a nice hot day, think I will out to the local pond and cool off....
Boy, it is a nice sunny day up there. Think I will take a picture and see what happens....
That is awesome. Then revenge of the 5th. :)
I'm huge on the double quote tonight!
I'm really tired, so I'll go to sleep. See you later.
Great choice. :)
Anything else of interesting going around here Steven, or do you have any timbits of information I can use for a podcast on Montreal ?
I didn't know you were doing a podcast. What are you going to talk about?
Sounds like an interesting idea. I can't wait to read it. I am not sure I have anything of any use to you.
Did Christine say anything about not being in the side of a Planetarium ever? I noticed she started talking about learning various constellations at one point.... I could make an easy tie in....
And also to a Starbucks coffee joint....
I think you are right about the planetarium. I think she had something on her list about learning a certain number of constellations.
Hmmmm, have we pick any current F1 driver who we suspect if rather crash-prone yet....I think I can work in a dig here...
Definitely worth having a dig at a few people.
Anyway it's way past time for bed.

Morning, loving how Istanbul is turning into Silverstone this weekend.
Media car park has turned into a swamp and the truck sent in with hardstanding as got stuck: http://yfrog.com/h380816210j
Turkey - going out in style
As long as Silverstone doesn't do the reverse and have 9 spectators
Sweet - accommodation and travel sorted for Snetterton next week. Thankfully, the 4th round at Brands is mercifully close to me
Unlikely any time soon thankfully
sometimes i like not going to every race. I need sun with my F1.
It's a Franck weekend? Bah, I cannot keep up with invisible people.
Between F1, GT1, WRC, GP2 & GP3, I'm not sure I'll keep up with anything!!
No, that must be spreading yourself too thinly.
I'll get round to seeing it all by the end of next week (probably)
Just in time for the next lot to begin, no doubt.
Sounds awful but do have fun :)
I'll do my best
Sidepodcast - Not keeping up with invisible people
Motorhomes: "Even Pirelli are getting in on the act! (I wonder if they bought it from Bridgestone?)"
Jaguar's old haunt actually
I'll be watching F1 and (hopefully) ILMC if I'm not out.
GT1 races are archived in full on their own website so hopefully I'll have a big catch-up session when F1 goes on break in August. GP2 races and WRC highlights will be got from somewhere to be put in a pile for winter, GP3 I only read about..
Ah I'd forgotten the video was in another post already, even though I'd read it. I think I was waiting for the new version of it.
Oh that's a different
I'm going to Frederiksborg palace on Sunday for a picnic so I'll be missing the race and watching it later. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederiksborg_Palace )
Which means it might be best if I avoid the comments that day, eh Leigh? ;)
I don't think the video was in another post don't panic :)
But it is here: http://vimeo.com/23285665
the NZ driving age is going up after years of argument.
I'd be sooo mad if I was 11 years younger :D
I'd better write that post now then!
Hell, I still haven't even seen last week's Doctor Who yet.
(**Must make days longer)
No hurry, I was confused
The stupid system they have over there is the reason why I can't legally drive at the moment!
Thinking of which, "Something for the Weekend" returns tomorrow following a three-week break
oooh, we best not discuss it yet then.
You shoulda got your full then :P
I was amazed at the bit when they brought Peter Cushing back from the dead at the end... ooops ;)
Flicking through the news...
So has the F1 season started yet?
Indeed - of course not many know he was the movie version of the First Doctor
I was amazed at the bit when they brought Kimi Raikonnen back from the trucks at the end... ooops ;)
For various reasons that was not possible...
you've been in Denmark for aaaages, I don't get why you can't drive there.
Even I can drive in Europe :D
The movies were touted as being influential on Moffat. But to me it's the Douglas Adams era that's most influential on him.
16 is still young
And, judging by this season, LOST.
Because I have to start again and it costs over a thousand quid to learn. And we didn't have a car until one month ago..
(though we can't discuss it yet of course)
definitely, when I look back and realise I had my full license at 16 and a half I go 'my, that was young'
OOPs! Sorry :)
could you sit for your full next time you're in NZ?
Really? I wouldn't have thought that at all - there haven't been any accidentally phallic-shaped aliens yet, have there>
I love that people on the internet write articles like this :)
The design of the tardis in particular.
Doesn't matter - I'd still have to take lessons and another test here anyway.
Oooh, yay, now men don't need a handbag.
so how is that NZs fault that you can't drive in Denmark?
No idea. Kiwis can't drive apparently.
The rules are that an EU Licence is allowed, a Russian Licence requires a written test and everyone else has to do lessons and then a driving test.
At least Matt Smith doesn't have a bushy moustache (yet)
ahh well then I wouldn't agree with
Needs more Philip Hinchcliffe era...
Evolution of Nintendo characters:
I think I'll buy a car when I win my 21 millio next weekend.
I have been using my 13" laptop bag and calling it my "iPad bag". Some people have suggested that it is a man bag, I have countered by saying that it can only be a man bag if it has in it some kind of cleansing product or tissues. A briefcase isn't a man bag is it? So as long as the bag is just holding an iPad then it's an iPad bag.
But maybe I can do away with the bag entirely now :)
Backpacks are cool.
Bit heavy-handed for an iPad though
those iPads do complicate lives don't they ? :-)
I've never been so thankful to be female and carry a handbag everywhere :)
nope, i take christine everywhere with me and she sorts it all. even types on it for me :)
it just occured to me that I will spend better part of next three weeks in countries where F1 spend the last 2 races. slight error in timing...
time for more Masterchef! I'll be back later with a tears report :)
Thanks Christine :) I enjoyed making that!
yikes, the latest mac software update isn't remotely scary.
BLEEURRRP!! ...and then it reboots.
anyhow, must be off to work. laters all.
see you Mr C
Bit of a flurry of work there..
Did you see that Metallica are doing F1 Rocks in India?
grr why can't a band I like play a race I'm actually going to :D
And to think you missed out on linkin park in abu dhabi as well!
That will be... interesting.
they're playing Singapore. I won't be watching.
Cancel the Singapore trip and go to India. :)
I want a lottery win.
I asked my Indian friend if we go for the Indian GP and he asked me back if I am crazy ... we go Singapore :-)
Loved this comment on the site:
"Pretty surprising that India would be much of a market for speed/death metal"
Eehhhh... Metallica are not, nor have they ever been even more remotely close to speed / death metal - they are very, very, very, very different from Metallica's brash brand of radio friendly hair metal.
Christine... (or anyone really) do you have a list of all of the qualifying start times for the season? I know I can find them in Calendar... But I wondered if there was a list written out?
I tried to buy my winning ticket today and they wouldnt accept my credit card. Then I tried again. Then I tried again. Then they said they were contacting my bank to make sure I wasn't using stolen details. Gah. It's not like I haven't bought tickets from them with that card before!
Everytime theres a major prize on offer their website buckles under the demand.
orrr I could have just coughed up the $130 to see Metallica when they were here about 6 months ago. I decided I like them but I don't like them as much as I did 10 years ago so $130 was too much :)
$130 is just absurd for any band
thats about standard for anyone who tours down here that plays any venue bigger than a pub
FIA does: http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pressreleases/f1releases/2011/Pages/f1-2011-start.aspx
The last known surviving World War 1 vetren has died today. I only mention it because he was known as: Claude "Chuckles" Choules
Must have been my predecessor :)
it is about half of what they charge here for Kylie M for her July concert... madness ... some of these "artists" are way too greedy ...
Obviously the costs of touring are huge, but there crosses a point where some music fans just say "no"
apparently its the cost of bringing their stuff allll the way down here. I think thats rubbish. But I've never gone to anything that cost less than $100
I dont think he knows that much about india, he is going to be in for a shock bless him
often the local bands playing in the clubs and pubs offer better shows and for much less money that those big expensive ones ...
Trust me, it is very very very very very expensive to do.
You should go and see british india, great Aussie band
... and that's why the tours make them millions ...
I could understand it for things like Muse - their stage with its videos and stuff was ridiculous.
The Backstreet Boys on the other hand looked like they were performing on a box to a backing CD :D They were cheaper than Muse, but not much.
thats why with the big expensive ones I generally only go and see people that I've loved for years and years and years and have always dreamed of seeing. It's always been well worth it in the end.
That's rarely true
Different situation altogether. Muse will dictate the price, whereas BB will have next to no choice and are probably on a wage
They're still surprisingly popular actually, I don't know if that'd be true.
Most likely the arrangement from the start
my accidental presence at their gig at Sing GP two years ago will forever be the blemish on my otherwise spotless resume ... :-(
as in from the start of their career? Their 1999 tour was the fastest grossing tour in history. No way were they on a wage.
You'd be surprised at the percentage of outgoings for a tour. Painfully few artists ever make it work financially
Highest grossing tour ever: $580 million.
Bono isn't poor, I'm sure he got to keep some of that :D
Grossing.... remember, these are guys who were put in place by an organisation. The wage would be good, but trust me, they had little command over the figures they received.
Truth is "highest grossing tours" mean absolutely nothing, because the costs have not been taken off that figure...
I'm mostly just sad theres no one touring in the near or far future I want to see. Guess it saves me money :)
apparently that one cost $750,000 per day.
Snoop DeeOhDoubleGee IS playing at yas tonight, or tomorrow
I wasnt tempted!
We've had Katy Perry and Bieber here this week
I wasn't either :D
Daily costs of the production are approximately $750,000, not including the stage construction
I swear ! they were right at the entrance - between the gate and my grandstand ! no way to avoid, that was very nasty trick from the organizers, very nasty ... had to go quickly for some Tiger in the can to wash down that shock
The figure varies from territory to territory, but it can be seriously high.
ah, you found that figure before me, knew it was costing a small fortune
I 100% avoided Mariah Carey last year and I wasn't even trying to, I think you're lying :P
Thats their own fault, it doesnt cost that much for 6 or so guys to pitch up at a place with a couple of amps, guitars and a drumkit.
:-( Need new front brake pads and disks... feeling poor today
A land anchor would be cheaper
now if I could just bill the idiots who keep pulling out right in front of me and forcing me to do emergency stops...
I'd like to thank an ad on an invoice for something unrelated, for pointing me at this which firstly has a great URL and secondly looks potentially useful for anyone thinking of UK train travel:
well, you probably knew she was there, I had no idea those boys were performing. will do better this year and will do my homework before venturing to the track :-)
Based on every gig i have been too...
Far too much attention to lighting, far too many video screens and in many cases far too many random effects.
If they dont make a profit, its probably because they couldnt controll their costs
Gee... need to make sure there is enough money for olympic tickets too #stupidolympicsystem
I knew they were there, I complained in the comments about missing it for months beforehand. You should have spent more time here and you'd have plenty of warning :D
hm, they are all so poor, that's why they all have to travel in public buses, fly in economy and live in subsidized housing
My favourite ones I've seen have been the more stripped back. Eddie Vedder all alone by himself, and Fleetwood Mac did a pretty awesome simple setup too. Fleetwood wasn't cheap either, anything whose main fan base is middle aged tends to do that :D
A quick test shows it actually isn't any different in price to the normal but at least it is navigable
If you removed that stuff you'd notice - and so would everyone else
I never at any stage said they were broke, but one must remember that many artist's career are over in less than five years
best gig I went to was Deep Purple. simple stage, 80-90 USD for the most expensive ticket and what a show ...
I am pleased Olympics tickets include travel around London. My poor Oyster depleted very quickly last time.
You say that as an attendee, but were you able to have a good look at the itinerary and other equipment used. What you call "simple" could be quite sophisticated behind the scenes
I'm not even sure what we're arguing about, I'm happy to pay $130 for things I want to see and I get that touring isn't cheap :D
big day today, me Island boy crossing the harbour for drinks first time in years ...
Oh that's good, didn't realise
Not arguing. I'll agree that some tickets are probably too expensive, but I'm also trying to relay that sometimes tickets are expensive for a reason.
Does it include free travel to all the non-London venues? The train I usually take to London just happens to start at the sailing venue.. :)
I disagree, last year i saw chicane play with about half the stuff other bands take and it was brilliant.
If you need a ll that stuff then how were there succesfull concerts in the past?
Im pretty sure the beatles didnt take thousands of people with them
Spectators with a ticket for a Games event in London will receive a one-day Games Travelcard for the day of that event. Games events include all ticketed sporting events and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The Games Travelcard will entitle you to travel within zones 1–9 on the London public transport network throughout the day of your event.
Spectators with tickets for Games events at Eton Dorney, the Lee Valley White Water Centre and Hadleigh Farm will receive a Games Travelcard for use on public transport in London on the day of their event. Spectators will also be able to use their Games Travelcard to travel by National Rail between London and the recommended stations for those venues. No additional fare will be payable.
There is a zone 9?
Hard to tell, I didn't work for the Beatles - also, they stopped playing live very early in their careers
i'm absolutely not here, but: http://mrschristine.com/2010/03/04/changing-touring-forever/
apparently so. I think you'd be pretty far out by then!
A quick lookup of BB: "Backstreet Boys played in Australia more than two years back and organizers promoters has still no idea how much profit, if any, the tour made." Feb '11
because they weren't louder than the screaming masses so they probably could do with more stuff with them :-)
Can I just say, it's BSB.
Boo... my end of london only goes up to 6 http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/tube-dlr-trams-and-train-travelcard-zones-map.pdf
and its 2011 #imissthe90s
7-9 all get lumped together as 'ancillary'
Ah nothing about Weymouth.. SWT may make a killing..
Wuh? Backstreet is one word.
Sounds about right
I found where they're mentioned
London 2012 ticket holders for events at co-Host City venues will not receive a Games Travelcard to use on public transport. These venues are: Weymouth and Portland; the City of Coventry Stadium, Coventry; Old Trafford, Manchester; Millennium Stadium, Cardiff; Hampden Park, Glasgow; and, St James’ Park, Newcastle.
But they do keep saying they are back
now its the NKOTBSB
Last I heard, they're doing a show in Vegas... in July?
Wimbledon don't do that. My potential tennis final tickets seem more of a bargain by the moment.
Joe does "As exclusively reported" now? A bit disappointing.
weren't people complaining it was all london based in the comments a while back? glasgow and newcastle don't seem very london.
they are doing many shows, a 52 date tour. I want to go!
ooooooh you applied for finals too?
Aren't you going to London next year? :P
it is a bit. everyone else was just sticking to an embargo.
i prefer my way: http://twitter.com/#!/sidepodcast/status/65901357781090304
Just some football stuff and Olympic football is a bit pants apparently
he wasn't under an embargo.
I thought he was just taking the **** with that.
It's not that bad.
If it was all spread about it wouldn't be London Olympics
NKOTBSB should play the Opening Ceremony.
First rumour I heard was the Spice Girls and I thought that'd be super. Then the next one was Coldplay. Bah.
sure, but it's not a huge achievement when loads of other people already know about it and are sitting on it for a few more hours
i laughed, but i have no idea if that was his intention :)
isn't it? ok.
someone tweeted Ms Bearpark and told her she should keep her personal stuff off Twitter. Her response was 'so don't follow me...'
She did delete the original tweet about Will though.
good answer :)
She has a point, but doesn't she use her account for work as well?
I think more people would be happy with the latter performing. ;)
thats a bit like saying to someone "Stop hitting that person"
Then them replying with "Stop watching me hit them"
Pretty sure every British band who is famous will be linked to it.
Interesting advice from a PR person
well that wasn't even true in the end, everyone else (well, maybe not Benson) had the story but weren't publishing it
get it right and he's praised, get it wrong (infiniti) and he's lambasted but it's exactly the same tightrope he's walking
I used to like it in the old days when they referred to zones 1 to D... That wasn't complicated at all :)
I think she is muddling up a professional and personal account there. Bit of thin ice I reckon..
the whole think is identical to infinity, the only difference is benson didn't copy the story so less people knew about it. i assume because this time benson was in on this briefing and not on holiday.
i like it, i prefer f1 people to be real (even if real lewis scares me). did you read this from nat: http://twitter.com/#!/NataliePinkham/status/65727789382373376
i (hearts) people who have lives outside motorsport. must watch that.
and I was sleeping so I ended up reading the later story first and the earlier later and whatever embargo made no difference :-)
Mr Gascoyne: Got an interview with @sarahholtf1 coming up. She is as mad as a box of frogs so should be interesting
That'll get you off to a good start :)
I love people being real but I hate watching people be all passive agressive when slagging off their exes. Reminds me of me when I was 17 :D
You smell ;)
thats too direct
"A certain someone somewhere smells. Not naming any names. But you know who I mean"
Yeah I suppose that's the difference between 17 and 12 :)
I agree with both of these points. It's nice we get to hear some non-F1 stuff but airing the dirty laundry in public isn't right to me.
ahh those were the days.
Then, as she says, you shouldn't follow. No use complaining about it when you have the "ignore" button.
"cor, look at the hot girls backside! phroaaaarw"
I did not follow much what was on twitter since end of China GP, so, who was airing what laundry ?
HAHAHAHAHA! i wonder where you pulled this from. :D
Surely that's more "pub on a Saturday night" lingo?
That was the only thing on Twitter from the wedding that kept trending well into the next day, he wasn't alone on that one :D
Tonight on the news they showed the Pippa's Bottom Remix video. Slow news day over here I think :D
This is it. We have the greatness of people being real, plus the greatness of ignoring people when their being real is not attractive to us. :)
So you don't think it's a tad unprofessional?
... I quietly used that button several times already
agreed. i like will and a i like em. if they annoyed me i'd stop following.
a good example of this was scott speed and his wife, who were the opposite. way, way, way too nice to each other. i couldn't bear to read about it, so i stopped.
Have we had this discussion before?
I enjoyed unfollowing her so I only have myself to blame when I dip into her page from time to time :D
i know, but you also know EXACTLY why he was tweeting it and who it was meant for :)
I didn't, but I do now...
Is it her twitter account or is it the company's name's account?
Which actually brings in another thing which is about Jake Humphrey using his own twitter account on the BBC which seems actually weirder than this.
But regardless... in my mind you would follow somebody in F1 for information if you thought they were professional and responsible... and if you think this is unprofessional then why would you keep following them?
I never got that from it just because everyone else was writing the same stuff. Makes sense now though :)
OHHH! I get it now.
I do agree though. :D
the only example i can think of is geoff from virgin, who's tweeting under the guise of an f1 team, but then also as an individual. i don't know yet where to stand on the idea of a whole entity having a single personality.
conversely, williams tweets are less fun now claire is sharing duties. so a tricky one.
Which is where the confusion lies... he uses a personal account as his professional one...
Because you enjoy their tweets and they might reply back? I don't look to Em for F1 info really, but she does tweet a lot about the drivers she looks after, which is interesting...
speaking of individuals and teams,
this tweet from @clubforce confused me
Morning all, it's Will at the track and it's a damp start to our #F1 weekend. Adrian, Paul and Nico will need jackets for the track walk!
Will who? Have we met? Are you their new PR person who is starting full time as of this race? Did I miss an introduction?
I think he realised (or was told?) it might not always be a good idea so he started his own account (and sometimes crosses wires between them :) ). I like that he still tweets from Virgin in the first person, far more interesting.
I personally would prefer ClaireFromWilliams or for her to use her own account. Then have a Williams Twitter account that automatically retweets any on topic comments.
on topic comments from any of the team
In all fairness though, Jake keeps himself in check
Mav forgot to say thanks for the link earlier :)
That's what Team Lotus does and it works really well. And the team a/c is also first-person sometimes.
Oh, missing comma :-)
Part of the beauty of Twitter, though, is how many different ways people use it. Fascinating.
last thought for the day. does anyone think the way ferrari use twitter is unprofessional. if so has anyone unfollowed them?
I had withdrawals today. I really must find that phone.
Not so much unprofessional as unfathomable?
I unfollowed them not because I found them unprofessional but because I found them boring. I dont like when every single tweet is just a link to something to read elsewhere.
Unprofessional - not thought about it in that sense. Entertaining, yes.
"WE deserved the podium with Fernando...."
Oh, they link now? I must have stopped following them before they grasped that concept :)
That's not unprofessional. Childish and petulant, but teams are like that sometimes.
but they tweet just like a sulky teenager too :)
I think I did too but I checked in again after that we deserved the podium thing just to see if they'd gotten more entertaining. That one was amazingly entertaining but the rest of it, nope :D
they wouldn't but that in a press release though.
Yes, but they tweet like that character Kevin from the Harry Enfield show
The same team that released the Horse Whisperer memos? :P
seems pretty minor now when you compare it alongside Real Madrid
how is that different from WillEm?
Real Madrid would
I think they would.
Are you sure?
fair enough :)
they've got the entire team claiming a great UEFA conspiracy because they lost to Barcelona
Ferrari's petulance is minor compared to the break-up of a family, which is bitter rather than childish
I've trained myself to only use it on evenings and weekends. Had to do that with the comments too on busy days (today is not a busy day :D)
i'm sure they don't think it's childish.
i like that social media brings you closer to f1, so you can find out what real people are really like. everybody's idea of 'too close' will vary though.
It's not too bad because generally when I'm at work Europe is asleep. I like to have it with me so I can get alers for my personal emails though, imagine if I'd had to wait an extra 7 hours to find that email from Air Asia :D
It goes back to the private/personal life thing.
It would be unprofessional if InsideFerrari started tweeting about their marriage breakup or whatever.
WillEm use their personal accounts, and have blurred the lines by also using them for professional things, but it's their private life and if they want to plaster it all over Twitter, that's their call.
They're not being unprofessional, but tasteful is another matter!
tweet of the week, right there: http://twitter.com/#!/MarussiaVirgin/status/66102757031034880
I love how much F1 loves him, he was one of the first things Mabel pointed out to me in the Lotus garage :)
i can't wait for pickle to start tweeting...
"Goo goo gahh gah gum"
I did have a brief moment of panic that this account was real
Ah, i finally realised what WillEm is!
I thought you were talking about Will-I-Am
Now a break til Sunday :)

I'm away for four days next week, trying to figure out if I can fit in some running time.
Excellent. My running buddy has cancelled tomorrow as her daughter has appendicitis. I don't know whether to go running during the day anyway or run on Saturday?
My advice would be skewed by the fact I keep knocking back people who offer to run with me. I don't like the idea of running with someone else, I like to go at my pace, speed up when I want to, slow down when I want to, having someone else to think about would suck #selfish
No, you're right. She kills me because she's half my size and faster than me. I keep up with her for a lap, stop for a stretch and then build back up during lap 2...
Thanks for the link about "other Turn 8s", that was a very entertaining article for a geek like me!
Rivage, Portier, Piratella, Woodcote, Parabolica... That's heaven on Earth!

I just realised I need a free practice food for 2011.
2010 was the year of free practice donuts, does the comments have any suggestions?
Shapes & KFC?
I'm a bit partial to pork scratchings myself...
KFC is a no, that was 2009 :D
Shapes don't appeal to me enough to eat 15 times :D
I do like pretzels. I feel like something that tastes really bad for me though :D
Maybe cake. Maybe I could try a different cake every race. Oooh the obesity.
You could start With a margherita and add an ingredient for each race.
*might get a bit expensive by the end*
That would be the super dooper koopa troopa supreme by Brazil, won't it?
I've started snacking on bags of nuts and dried fruit. Healthier than chocolate. But you eat the whole thing because its not filling.. not sure if that's a bad thing
delivery pizza is another thing that I only eat about twice a year because I wait until I really, really, really want it.
Good suggestions though, I might have to have a Sidepodbinge one day and try all of them at once :D
Apples and peanut butter? :)
tasty but far too healthy!
I have a better idea - make a list of all our suggestions and try one for each GP. :D
hmm, closer but still not quite right.
It might come to me while I'm sleeping.
Bacon and bratwurst
I do need to buy some bacon because I am going to make an epic bacon and egg pie some day soon. Bratwurst, noooooo.
ooooh that sounds possible.
How about something Finnish for Heikki?
I'm going to the pub tonight as it's the monthly stand up comedy show: http://www.wisecrackers.dk/
I'll probably have either Fish & Chips or Beef & Guinness Pie...
I love the bacon and egg thing fourstar makes, looks amazing
I like the sound of both of those. They may not be suggestions but they're going on the list.
I have no idea what thing you mean but I'm intrigued. Anything with bacon and eggs combined is magical.
They're not. I'm just looking forward to this evening and I'm hungry now!
definitely on the list. I got very excited to find 'cheesy cheese' flavour in Malaysia.
I've got Texas BBQ at home
Beef and Guiness pie..
What about Cheesy Peas?
It was in a muffin tray with the bacon making a cup and the egg in the middle
Add a schwarma to the list :)
Cheesy cheese! http://amyfulton.posterous.com/cheesey-cheese Much better than not cheesy cheese. We don't have any sort of cheese flavour pringles over here and you all know how foreign flavours excite me :)
I'm not a big fan of BBQ flavour anything. I'm boring and always go for salt + vinegar or sour cream and onion. Sometimes I can't decide so I get a small tube of each. Damn you decisions.
What about Maggi Onion Dip?
That's end of the night after the pub food?
according to the pringles australia website we do in fact have cheddar cheese flavour. I'm positive I've never seen it. Maybe I can hunt that down tomorrow and it can be my first FP1 snack.
is that the lamb kebab? is that how it's spelled? we spell it shawarma.
Quick lunch over here!
I asked my last friend who visited from NZ to bring me some and she bought Pams ones instead. The dip they make isn't any good! Bah!
sounds tasty but I really really like pastry.
the place that made really good ones near my work closed down :(
Different restraunts spell it different ways, my local uses that one
Its chicken or mutton steaks on a spit.
Heres a guy who ate a lot of them http://gulfnews.com/life-style/food/shwarma-drama-1.17885
We've got cheese and something I think? Can't remember.
Their salt and vinegar ones are nice
Cheese flavoured crisps always sound wrong but taste nice.
http://pringles.com.au/en_AU/Pages/Flavors.aspx?&Flavor=8 is blowing my mind. I swear I'd remember seeing a white pringles can. Must find.
You know my wife's Auntie came over from NZ to visit last year and she asked Mrs. Goat what she wanted from NZ. She desperately wanted Pineapple Lumps.
Now her Auntie is rather frugal ... so she brought the brandless ones and they tasted awful :(
Pizza is a flavour?
my grandad always ate cheese and onion flavour so sometimes I buy them because the taste takes me back to childhood but it doesn't seem to be a flavour I can find easily in Melbourne.
Never used to like them..
people don't understand, if you're bringing something from the other side of the world make sure you bring the right ones!
If you can't find them I can send you some.
thats very kind of you! They must be around somewhere though, thats the Australian website!
Another new venture: SidepodSnacks.
You have the craving, I have the postage.
how is everyone? :) f1 tomorrow!!
oh yes, thank god we can get back to normal. :)
I am adding popcorn to my list.
my flatmates are a bit freaked out at my excitement.. again..
list is now 12 items long. Good thing I quite like running now.
Thanks for the help <3
Someone overheard me yesterday and asked, 'oh, you're into racing?' I was like O.O. Um, yeah!
Amy, If you are in Canada go to the local Tim Horton's Donut shop for a Bacon and Egg muffin called a breakfest club.
Ok, I have to scoot for a bit.
You have to watch Fish and Chips every second...
I'll add it to the list for 2013 :D
see ya! :)
Thinking of the fish and chips situation. The fish fell not only on my trousers but also on the bag of former commenter... Erm... Mind's gone blank... He was attempting to eat a food appropriate to each grand prix.
Is it too late to get turkish pringles?
Mmm. In a pub too!
hmm it is Turkey, if I wanted to be relevant i should go for the doner kebab tomorrow. No time though, no time!
UK Pringles site says they have kebab flavour. That would be two birds one stone.
I may have left this too late to sort out.
Ah phew just remembered his name. Glad I put myself out of my misery.
Are we not supposed to mention it or something?
I was going to link to the wiki page of his Grand Prix menus, but I don't think it made the transition.
Only because it wasn't a particularly amicable departure, but it makes no odds really.
Ah now I know who you mean then.
I just didn't think anyone would particularly mind / know / care. But it was driving me mad and then I remembered so that was it really.
I'm still thinking about the fish and chips :)
thats one of a very few items on my 'no way, never ever, ew yuck' list :)
I genuinely don't understand how something can still be so funny two years later.
The original stuff from actual Turkey is very nice. Better than the Fry's chocolate one we get here.
I get that sometimes and it's like a thorn in your brain - literally blocks everything else out!
I've had that from a Turkish lady at work and I didn't like it either :(
It's very sweet and fragrant. You have to be in the right mood!
Me neither but it was bloody hilarious!
Sorta related - I have had a horrible song from an advert in my head. It's quiet here so it was swilling around and around. But a short blast of AC/DC seems to have fixed it!
I still can't find my phone. Now I'm genuinely concerned :(
You've tried calling it I suppose?
When did you last have it? Have you turned your bag inside out?
yesterday when I left work. I unplugged my headphones from it because I decided to listen to my Kindle on the way home instead. I'm 100% sure I put it back in my bag after I unplugged the headphones because I was standing by the lift so the only other place I could have put it would be on the floor!
For Amy when she gets to Montreal:
Look Under Hot Breakfest Sandwich....
nope. I have crawled on the floor under one side of the bed, next step will be the other side. I took a break to watch TV. Clearly it's an urgent matter :D
Have you checked at work too?
Stoopid company name makes for a stupid URL.
yep, had a look around all the places I go at work while I was there today.
I still have your number from Spa if you need it called, just don't answer as it'll cost a fortune :)
although if someone else does answer i won't be able to speak as i'm in the office
heh no, the battery is long dead :) thanks anyway
that is a terrible logo too!
Victory! Phone managed to fall off bed and land in a bag I had beside the bed full of cables and wires and cameras and my fanvision and assorted other devices. And rather than just landing on the top it had slid down the side to the bottom and ended up UNDER the stuff thats been sitting there all week.
Gah. But so relieved!
What a stoic approach to social media
Wow - a Facebook page!! I hate the way these things read like laboratory experiments.
I thought I'd lost my dictaphone in Ireland until I found it lying in my washing basket...
it also inspired me to finally put all the cables back where they actually live. Success!
it's a press release.
as williams were the last team to join facebook, the correct complaint is "what took you so long, you're meant to be the fans favourite".
I know that, but it always amuses when company release these notes. There's a feeling of "I suppose if we must" about them
Maybe they realise that FB is becoming puerile and full of spam. Twitter can be too, of course. I just find FB to be much worse
Howdy stranger ;)
erm, uh...not yet...
kids are working.
Stranger than most.
Odd maybe, not strange :D
High praise, indeed.
I've been following the Le Mans timing a little. I can't wait to watch.
Is this the Spa 6hrs thing?
Or has that been and gone?
Ta. I remember setting a series link/reminder for it
Think Eurosport or Motors TV are showing it. One of the Cable/Satellite channels
See bullet #2 up in the daily.
6 Hrs now
Oh. They should update their website then.
I do red the Daily, honest. Just not usually straight away :)
We'll be the judge of that ;)
No TV coverage in the US, of course. Only some highlights hour and a half that I never watch.
*polishes up laptop screen*
At least I'm not bitter. It would be bad if I mentioned it every. single. time. we talk about Le Mans.
They aren't the most prompt organisation in the world. ALthough I see their event image is for 1000km... there was an announcement over the winter that they'd all be timed events now
Now I'm home and got my Twitter back I can see they red flagged FP2 for a crash between the #9 Peugeot and the RML car.
That is at least more consistent.
This being the ACO they'll probably decide the distance in the 5th hour of the race.
I have to go eat. See you later.
Big crash for Rebellion too
I bet it was Lamy.
Glad he's not with Franck this time.
Heads-up from Jake:
By the way, if you've series linked F1 quali, please note we're on BBC TWO this Saturday for various reasons. On Air at 11am...pass it on!
Stop messing with the schedule! What's happening now?
Oh, nothing important. Just football
Can't be a hardship to press '2' instead of '1'.
The last bit clashes with a Championship football game. Not that important but neither is a qualifying round.
It can if you don't follow Jake or read the comments here
That's what series links are for, if they don't work when the channel is different, maybe they should think abpout not messing with it for a one off show which could go on BBC 2 instead.
I realise footie will get more viewers but it's irritating
sounds more like a technical failing of series link?
I agree. I'll have a look later to see if it picked up the channel change
there's no spam on the sidepodcast pages(s). never has been.
youtube on the other hand...
It should pick up all instances of a mention? I think some DVRs do that?
Probably not, do you have to manage it a lot?
I've noticed several spam posts floating around in the last few weeks, linked to big media stories. FB needs to get on top of it before people lose faith [those that have any with it]
no. there is none.
Maybe cos it's a fan page that people respect. That's good
Latest word from the track is that Pedro Lamy and Mike Newton are both ok. This can't be said about the cars though. #ILMC #LMS
no idea. i don't recall there being spam on fb. with twitter, i get it everyday.
Peugeot n°9 is OK. The car will be ready tomorrow morning, for the third free practice session.
Maybe spam's the wrong word. Posts that inadvertently imbed in your own wall/profile and harvest data. Malware I guess
While Sky's planner seems much much better at noticing big time shifts in tv series and over-running coverage than the virgin boxes... I believe neither of them can cope with a channel change.
Which is a bit rubbish. This is still less bad then when they changed channel mid broadcast without warning because that broke a lot of people.
still nope. not on any pages or christine's wall so far as i've seen. and christine has a few friends.
gavin needs to read this: http://blog.ouseful.info/2011/05/05/first-play-with-r-and-r-studio-f1-lap-time-box-plots/
it's software developed by the developer of windows live writer, btw.
I may be wrong but I seem to remember that it is because the series link information is created by the tv companies not sky and virgin as dvr box makers. And there is no central source of UUID (ids being handed out for series) so the channels get to make up their own series numbers and keep track of them and then just say this is the same program as that. Basically so that if BBC and ITV both have a new series starting they don't have to check with each other which one of them gets the ID for series id 27.
This was supposed to make things easier to differentiate between new series of Friends on Channel 4 and the endless reruns on E4. But of course they could have just grouped all of Channel 4's channels together and said to Channel 4 you make sure everything has separate channel numbers but... even at Channel 4 the channels operate quite separately... So...
What they should have done is made the spec call for a GUID which is a really big number where it is almost impossible for two numbers to be the same. Then everyone could just be creating their own GUIDs and entering them and then the box would be able to even pick up a series that moved to the Red Button (which is really just an extra channel that's hidden).
But they didn't ask me ;)
In a mutation of the allergy for 2011, no less than three names are put forward for candidature: Mark Webber, a constant name on the list since the start of the year, then Jenson Button, joining the ranks in China and now, we also have Nico Rosberg. Needless to say, it is just rubbish, the sort that gives you really bad allergies.
"Spring, the time of allergies"
Hayfever, I'm guessing
I think this is them being professional ;)
Rubens has said some words about the changes at Williams.. some pretty direct stuff. I suspect he's right too. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91131
"Sam is doing five or six jobs, so he's overloaded. It's too much for a single human being. He ends up achieving only half of his own capability doing his own job because he's overseeing other things.
"It's something that needs changing – Williams needs to work as a family, not keeping things to themselves and going to the press."
yay for massa!
FM: Everyone seems very impressed with the racing and the good fights, the overtaking and the influence of the rear wing, the KERS and the tyres. We drivers have always had fun on the track, but it’s important for the fans to see a really exciting show and it seems we are moving in a good direction on this front compared to last year
Retiring after this season, then?

Perhaps, to be fair I thought he would anyway
Williams wil be in worse shape if so
True - he's just targeting to hit 300 GPs this season.
But his mood does remind me of his blah-blah-blah outburst at Nurburgring 2009. Much more eloquent, but no less sulky.
Did that at Spa
He's the only thing keeping them afloat, I reckon. But it's not the end of the world. If MSC does stay at Mercedes for 2012 (and so far, it looks like he's intent to do so), one of Sutil, di Resta, and Hulkenberg will replace Rubens at Williams. I'd bet it's Sutil. There will be some interesting names floating there later (Massa? Heidfeld? Not Webber, though), but their worst-case scenario is having to reach for a GP2 driver again...
Oh yeah! Blame my rusty memory. :D So yeah, if they'll have a crappy year, not much reason to stay, really.
you're assuming pastor is staying?
they need the money. the only way pastor leaves is if they can find a better venezuelan driver.
He he, harsh but fair
he has to bear some of the brunt of their poor season. sam may have run out of ideas, but pastor ran out of talent first.
Whikle I'm not enamoured with him yet, I'll give him a bit of time. The car must be shocking if Rubens can't get more out of it.
How on earth did he win GP2 then? Ahead of Checo who everyone loves right now too...
Seems you don't have to be stellar to win at GP2, maybe he stayed on track?
no idea? he drives an f1 car like sakon.
GP2 isn't as predictive as it used to be. (See Kamui Kobayashi).
This is bigger than just one season and the guy's only done three races. This is root and branch structural change.
true. but the motivation for the change was their worst start for x years, right.
Probably way overdue too
worst start ever, actually. but as bassano said, this is way overdue. the rot started well before pastor came in. actually, i reckon it started when they raced that walrus nose - and that was in 2004. they've been playing catch-up ever since.
one other guy who could replace Pastor: Petrov. but given his recent form, no way Renault lets him go now.
last effort then. might williams' start have been less awful if they'd kept the hulk?
That and the fact the last two have been similar
It happened when BMW left.
No. No better for me than Barrichello really right now...
on paper, it should. but of the fly-aways, they only had decent pace in australia.
they were already falling back even then. they only finished 5th in the 2005 WCC with BMW power.
Tomorrow is my last pre-5am alarm for a while :D
So it was Montoya's fault :)
Antonia Terzi's fault. :D Can't blame Montoya - he gave them their last win.
Ah, shoots, got sucked in. I should be #nothere.
And now I won't be. Night folks.

What's going on 'ere then?
Mr C, there may be an airport visiting opportunity in the near future and a London meet-up with a very special guest. Details to come as they become clear
Nuffink guv, 'onest
We do things like cover space shuttle launches in high definition, something that even NASA doesn’t do. So when you go to our web site, you can get an actual 1280 X 720p streaming version of a space shuttle launch, or anything we can get our hands on in high definition.
Everyone except Kai knew yesterday May 4th was Star Wars day. But she redeemed herself by picking up on the tweet declaring today the revenge of the 5th
Earlier today it occurred to me that in France today is also Return of the Jeudi
I am supposed to ask that
Ha, class :)
I have spacevidcast on the list of things I never get round to
Unless it is Kai who has been talking about a June visit for weeks. ;)
There's gotta be one for Empire
I would blast my way out of this but swearing is against the commenting policy ;)

Keep your drinking calendars free :)
Pandas are arriving in Edinburgh in July according to today's news
Getting a good spot for the festival?
How was The Flying Lap with Scarb's yesterday?
Well Sauber never fired anyone
They may even take traffic from it. Apparently the Chinese just decide when they are shipping them without consultation. I am sure Edinburgh would have preferred to get them in January when there is no big event on
And so does Rubens
He clearly thinks Williams need to make lots of changes
I thought the panda news would get that reaction
that's what I was thinking!
Ah, I missed that bit.
I really need to start growing that bamboo.
He hePhil Collins was a Star Wars model maker?
Ooh, that was messy. Sorry
This will take away a lot of the excuses people have used for not kidnapping a panda from Berlin for you. No need to cross borders or file paperwork
That really does look like him
So, the I can feel it, something in the air was really The Force?
I'm assuming this is you volunteering your services?
Liuzzi is probably one of the most unstylish Italians I have ever set eyes on
Volunteer myself? Certain people promised Christine a panda from Berlin then came up with excuses. Once they arrive in Edinburgh those excuses are no longer valid so they have to deliver
Is that a ... Newcastle United scarf?
My local pub tweeted [I know!] new additions to their menu
Chilli squid & chickpea salad with and Chorizo Nachos
I thought Udinese first but, possibly.
Sounds very weird.
Assume it's a Besiktas scarf as their badge is black & white http://www.bjk.com.tr/en/
Looks like it
Maybe it is a Juventus scarf to get in Ferrari's good books
That does not sound appealing!
Makes sense going by trackies.
When you think of Turkey, you don't think "perhaps I should pack a scarf" do you?
Probably not together but either sound good to me
They do a mean Sunday Roast though
That Panda didn't follow the simple plan... I mean if it had worn rather than eaten the hat it would have been soooo simple!
Don't remind Mr C about nachos though :)
Captain Leo Lakirk :)
I just missed The Space Shuttle: A Horizon Guide on BBC2
That was on a couple of weeks ago and then on the iplayer for a week
Please stop rain!! :)
It's been a tad dry lately, I think we kinda need it
I need to go to the polling station so I'd like it to stop please :P
Postal Vote FTW
[Is it Sun - 1st preference. A bit chilly - 2nd preference?]
Yes yes, I've already had to cold call several election candidates to find out where it is. That's enough politics for one day I think :P
Your polling station address isn't on your card?
I'm sure it is. Goodness only knows where that is though... You've as much chance of finding that as me. I haven't seen it in weeks and annoyingly none of my housemates are registered so I can't look at theirs.
If only there was an Internet site to look postcodes up, represented by in diagrammatical form or something
It's unfair that the vote on the alternative vote is done on a first past the post basis :D
Karun is in the comms box with Croftie Sat and Sun :)
Ooh, that's good.
Ant's in Belgium, obviously
@SarahHoltF1: Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari was also spotted wearing a pair of white jeans with diamante detail and....
Sounds like DC has been giving fashion advice.
Diamante detail?? Somehow I am sure Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg and co never imagined an F1 driver wearing that.
I wrote a blog post about the crazy way women's clothes measurements work: http://gamboling.co.uk/2011/05/05/measure-for-measure/
They are a bit cryptic
He has been rhyming in Italian though..
"Staletto ha letto un detto che il letto era netto"
"Staletto ha letto un detto che si va diretto al letto"
Although Google Translate suggests he's talking gobbledegook..
Stalybridge read said that the bed was a net
Stalybridge read a saying that goes straight to bed
I got an e-mail from twitter to the e-mail box for my gamboling twitter feed asking me to come back to twitter... That's a while without posts oops!
Maybe you have just identified the need for a new Andronov scale
"Have you got this in a large Andronov please?"
I scanned the comment and thought he was wearing stilettos
And then I step out from behind a curtain?
Team points for Lotus/Mike
@MikeGascoyne Got an interview with @sarahholtf1 coming up. She is as mad as a box of frogs so should be interesting
Did you know that S M L etc. vary measurably from country to country too. If I take a M here, it'd be L on the continent for example.
Same for the states
There was a time when I was an M in some places and an L in others. I like that t-shirts and things are even more simple than shirt..shirts, don't even have to worry about numbers.
All L now of course. :)
Actually, it's the other way round. Medium here is Small in the U.S.
Anyways, the simple reason that women's clothes don't work like mens is that there's too many measurements to take. You'd need 5000 different sizes to have enough combinations.
Another ping: http://www.f1bigpicture.com/news/steering-the-conversation
Yes. I wrote that at first then decided it was mean and took it away :P
But a 10 should be the same everywhere
It's still not consistent though.
What if that meant that some people had no shops at all that stock clothes fitted to someone even roughly your shape? At least this way, you can shop around and something somewhere is bound to fit.
Are you saying the shapes are different as well as the sizes?
What kind of craziness is this?
I'm not being funny but women come in many shapes as well as sizes.
They could just do varying shapes, same way they do regular or long trousers. If it has a number on it, it should be a real number not something arbitrary.
I'm aware of that, I just never considered it in relation to clothes buying
They should be like Clarke's shoes and have a number and a letter or something
Exactly when I buy trousers I can choose waist, length, and pleat shape (which is code for essentially the ratio between hip width and waist). These numbers are pretty consistant.
Not enough men's shirts have sleeve lengths
This third bit doesn't really exist with women's trousers. Tres annoying. It's more like trial and error to find something that even vaguely fits.
Clearly I don't go to the right shops, never heard of that... :) Different cuts of jeans I know about
Do you not have a shortlist of shops that have clothes that suit you?
Well there you go that's what I'm saying... As a friend on twitter has already pointed out to me it would be better if you could measure yourself and make it work, whereas the measurements refer to the amount of material currently. But once you find an amount of material and dimensions you would find it much easier to work out, "this is going to fit".
I only buy one brand of jeans cos nearly all of their styles fit me well. Tried one or two others in the last 20 years or so but never feels as comfortable
For trousers? I don't think I've ever had a pair of trousers that actually fit. My hips are way too tiny compared to my waist to everything always falls down :P I tend to just buy things from Tesco. If it's going to look stupid or fall off, it might as well be cheap :P
What are these jeans things you speak of ;)
It's what your plumber wears :)
Oh those blue worksmans trousers ;)
They look... um.. durable ;)
I didn't care about any of that until fairly recently, when I tried several at once and found Levi's fit best. Decided to gradually switch over as the current pairs wore out.
Yeah, those breeches from that French town
I'm lucky I found mine early, I guess
501s are the only jeans I own. I have a number of pairs but I don't wear them on the internet.
In Boston, I walked in, chose 2 pairs, tried them on and paid in under 10 mins
I think Kai and Janna were stunned into thinking it was Black Magic
I've got 501s and 504s(?) and I think the latter fit me better. I'd check again right now but one pair are in the washing machine. :)
ah... um... 504s um... I can't remember... um... trousers upstairs...
I'm quick but not that quick, unless I already know what's there.
Haha. I used to be quick in the clothes shops and then spend all the time wandering around HMV, unable to decide there.
I've heard of them. They sell those shiny circles of silver
I remember growing up in an Air Force Base. My father's Uniform came in two sizes: Too Big and Too Small. The idea was that if was size "Too Big" you grew. If was size "Too small", you shrank.....
One of my favourite pastimes back in the day
Timo Glock asked "You're not happy with CFD?" and replies "I'm not happy with the car. "
By and by, Mr. C around ?
Just seen an interesting idea floated on Twitter, just waiting for the story to post to see how accurate it might be
Just seen freaky advert for Jammy Dodgers [and Toffee ones]
I am here, yes. Not as exciting as Mr C, though :)
Well I don't know...
Drumroll please... It's Christine... WOAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!
*THE CROWD GOES WILD*
Where have you been where acts are announced with an evil cackle?
Ah that wasn't how it sounded it my head...
Well if it is a chioce between Christine the Car (exciting) and Christine the person (not so exciting as the Car) I willtake th eperson thank you as Ido not think my heart can tak the excitement of trying to outrun a manicial car....
I am sorry I thik I have the wrong address. I was looking for Sidepodcast, not "Phantom of the Opera." :P
Christine, you have always been my inspiration.
Hey Yanks.... Does the band "Here Comes The Chief" whenever the First Lady does a presentation by herself ? Just wondering.....
Christine: Kindly inform Mr. C that have have forefilled his request to post my dives on flickr.
I certainly will do.
This is a phantom of the opera quote for those attempting to follow along at home :)
Now I know it was written by Marshall Pruett, whose every utterance I believe to be true, I reckon this has legs.
Scott Speed to enter the Indy 500
I am so lucky to have a musical written all about me. Me, not Sarah Brightman.
Well she's called Sarah so it can't be about her.
Just as long as you do not attempt to sing "Think of Me", Alex.... I might have to saw off a chandeler..... :P
I'm not planning it... I must retire... (just for the night)... See you tomorrow lovely sidepodpeeps :)
Back from the pub. Fish and chips was not spilt on my lap and we had loads of laughs!
Thanks to Alex I now have image of Christine making an enterence to the opening few bars of Andrew Lyold Wbber's version of Phantom Of the Opera.
Exciting. Hellishing overdramtic, but exciting....
Don't know if you guys saw, but I wrote a guest post for BadgerGP which was posted earlier today, looking at the stats from their Fantasy GP game: http://badgergp.com/2011/05/fantasy-gp-2011-f1-stats/
Interesting what fish did you have, if you do not mind my asking ?
I have no idea!
....and here goes my "try the Flounder for the Hailbut" joke....
Audi's R18 looks like a Cylon raider. http://is.gd/l7jRiJ http://is.gd/N906cd Just needs the red lights..
That can be arranged, "By Yout Command"*
* Cylon Raider catchphase for the originial 70's version of Battlestar Galatica.
Loved the classic series, when it was re-aired on BBC2 in the mid-90s.
Reminder for TMRG players: http://toomuchracing.com/2011/05/04/tmr-game-2011-week-15/
Done. No NASCAR for me this week...
I just went for one guy
More Franck: http://heartfranck.wordpress.com/2011/05/05/audi-super-fast-in-spa/
And I shall retire for the night.
I'm looking into hotels and actual prices and stuff. I may need oxygen.
This is a follow on from your comment last night
They charge extra for that
Aww, sweet that you thought of it.
I told both of those 'day names' to someone today who found completely weird.
And I just made a financial plan for retirement today for the first time in my life. She said 'save more'. I, uh, didn't share my trip idea with her.
found ME completely weird, that is.
They always say save more and they are always right but you have to live now too
Yes. Balance is key.
I knew what you meant
Good morning. Welcome to Friday.
Would you stop being on the wrong day?
its after midnight for you, I'm not even wrong :D
I think all this planning you do causes you to be a day ahead of everyone else
i still haven't even planned my FP eating for 8 hours time.
Are you feeling OK?
I'm going to the supermarket in an hour or so, I'll sort it out then. Then I'll draw up a plan for the remainder of the season :D
What are you thinking at this point?
You scare me
I'm leaning towards popcorn or pringles. Things I can easily pick up next door with the loose change in my wallet :)
Not the first person to say that to me :)
Nice. And you'll need the right beverages.
Planners are not for the timid.
Probably a nice cup or ten of Turkish Apple tea. It's topical, and I'm still quite hooked on it :)
Well, it sounds perfect.
I have to coordinate viewing times for all the Turkish GP stuff and the Le Mans stuff. I haven't had time to look at that yet.
I don't think it intercepts with the tennis so thats nice. I've been a terrible watcher this clay-court season so I should rectify that this weekend
searching....hm. I have to see what I want to be near, etc.
Ohh, someone's on a trip... where to ?
To the UK :)
Silverstone The primary target ?
It will end up being Goodwood and a meetup. Looking forward to it.
At least I hope there will be a meetup.
I'm off the jump into tomorrow now. :)
