It's back to work then, if you weren't already, and now we can start turning our attention to the Spanish Grand Prix. Preview quotes are beginning to emerge from teams, and there's plenty of chatter about what to expect once we get going again in Barcelona. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about.
- Having a lovely bank holiday here in the UK meant that not one but two podcasts were published for your listening pleasure yesterday. The Debrief catches up with all things news-worthy, including McLaren, Donington, and the last race in Bahrain. The Sidepodpanel is hosted by both Jackie and Lou and has some really great questions and a lot of laughs.
- Alianora has been looking at the 2010 regulations in a lot of detail and written a great post on the subject. It's a long one but well worth a read. The last paragraph, though, features the phrase: "...mostly it is a mess..." which does basically tell you all you need to know.
- Don't forget that if you're on Twitter (or fancy counting out 140 characters), then take part in the F1 Nostalgia competition. We've even started using a hashtag - #f1nostalgia - which makes the entries really easy to find. RG has signed up to Twitter especially for the competition, so if you're not a member yet, you've got no excuse.
That'll do for now. There'll be more news along later today, no doubt, so I will see you in the comments.
In unrelated motorsports news, because that's my 'thing', Indy500 practice gets underway today with Rookie Orientation. Of note for us is Mike Conway who was BAR's tester in another life, wasn't he? He hasn't done too well in IRL so far this year.
To link that to the Twitter note above, anyone into IndyCar can follow the series itself as well as a host of teams and drivers on Twitter. Full list is here:
http://indy500.com/news/13798/IMS__IRL__Teams__Drivers_Embracing_Social_Media_For_Fans_During_May
It got me thinking that F1 generally could do a much better job. Us fans and bloggers are holding up our end of the bargain but the teams are still writing as if they are doing press releases or using it as a linkfeed (compare @BMWSauberF1Team to @VisionRacing). There is no Official F1 Twitter account, and we're relying on the Fake Drivers for our kicks. Over in IndyCar the team-mates are using it to rip into each other!
Must go to bed, night all.
Good night Andy
Night Andy
I love this dancing bird on the BBC news http://digg.com/d1q1Qk it's brilliant
Hard to beat the QI bird though
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM_oUJAhKsI&feature=related
looks like MediaTemple has some issues ... I am down, I am down
so is ollie. are you on cluster 2, cause spc seems fine?
i'm not here btw, i'm supposed to be sleeping.
cluster 2 probably
Don't forget to listen to my fantastic parody song that I promised to sing in the panel: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/tell-me-fibs-mp3
Jackie found it funny and I hope you do too! ;)
Mediatemple appears to be fine, at least F1Wolf is alive again after half a day coma
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75059
Actual F1 news!!!
Just listened to your song Gavin, I love the midi background track :D
Yeah it's well cheesy - really adds to the song, don't you think? ;)
Just reading the latest ask the expert, it's kind of sad that "17th season" Rubens has the same number of wins as "3rd season" Lewis.
I want Rubens to win races this year so much :(
That's what happens when you sell your soul to become a helper monkey :(
Yes exactly. Not as if he didn't know
pray...for....mojo
Welcome to me, every season! :P
Morning all.
Evening
Hi Lukeh, how's it going?
OK thank you, had my day messed about about by lecturers and I think my driving instructors a bit angry at that (not my fault) but apart from that, things are alright. Are you feeling better today mrs C?
Worse if anything, but I have yet to prove it is the black death, so I am still counting myself lucky :)
Morning.
What a cacky day. :(
Tell me about it. It's madness over here!
Morning all
Evening everyone.
General salutations, fellow Sidepodcasters!
Man, it's quiet today...
Very little news, and it appears most people are having bad days.
Quieter than the Nelson Piquet Junior fanclub :D
Man, removing the most commented count has really reduced the amounts!
Not much happening until the British GP @ Donnington gets killed later today by the council.
Although, I'm the busiest that I've ever been at the moment...
At the moment I seem to be getting by until the next F1 race...
lol
Well, hopefully it's increased the quality of the posts instead of the quantity
I'm still here - so that's a negative, captain!
Ironicaly, I've been posting more since they were removed. I recon the doosleepy has something to do with it though...
My office had another electrical faliure to the building over the weekend... It has caused untold problems to our systems.
You've been posting more so it won't go to sleep?
Me too! :D
Another one??
Have they installed Tesla Coils or something?
That's one of the reasons. I'm kind of a lurker on most websites and forums I visit. Mainly because I'm scared I'll say something that will offend or be laughed at by the regulars. Thankfully, this site seems more grown up, so I'm more confident. That's increasing my posting rate as well.
Hehe. I don't know if grown up is the right word. Sometimes we name circuit corners after musicians named after food. :)
And we do laugh at each other a lot too ;)
No childish arguments here. Good debates, though. :)
Red Alert Soviets all the way! :D
You know what I mean. Theres few immature arguements and everyone's opinion is respected.
Absolutely. That's the aim, anyway.
Right lunchtime and a break...
Far too much work for today. :(
Yes another one :(
did you forget to keep peddling like they told you too last time?
No, he was off for the long weekend and there was no-one there to pedal for him :)
Thats going to kill a aspect of my life that I enjoy - live ground running aircraft. :(
The Victor at Bruntingthorpe took off during a fast taxi.
Bad. Very bad indeed!
Is it not good that it took off?
No.
No certificate of airworthyness
Only ground running condition
No airworthy spares
Unsure if it was a licenced pilot at the controls..
No insurance for flying
Very bad indeed.
Did it land OK though? Is all well?
:)
one wing scraped along the runway - shedding nuts and bolts...
other than that it's in a world of trouble with the CAA
Oh bumsocks. Was DC invited to drive it or something?
http://www.crash.net/motogp/news/146357/1/victory_at_last.html
I know it's bikes... but I really liked this column...
Would have been some of the ground crew I suspect.

Oiii !!!!
so...thats not MEANT to be in the air?
Oooohhhh....really not good!
Whoops - that's much worse than I imagined!!!
the latest update to the next weeks panellist wiki page upsets me greatly. Worst grand prix ever!
let's do a tilt to the left...
and then a twist to the right...
This aircraft, named Teasin' Tina *still wearing her Gulf Argument colourscheme* was retired from the airforce in 1993 - most of the Victors at that time had flown right up to and int his case past her normal lifespan.
Very bad indeed.
Question:
If Toyota win, what will be the national anthem of the constructor? German?
Just a quick comment about the doohicky - is it possible to have an option to change the font size?
Easy on the web page version - I tend to use the desktop doohicky though. :(
DD will be re-written after lclt updates, and the site design. it really wasn't meant to be as popular as it is.
alex might describe it as a monster :)
What's the current eta for the site design? (I'm not expecting it at that time, I understand Sidepodtime, but I'm just interested.)
lclt updates should be available by monaco. although more tweaking will be required based on feedback. then it's onto the redesign.
at some point during summer would seem likely :)
Mr C's created a monster,
'cos nobody wants ta,
use LCLT no more,
they want 'hicky
Do do da do do da do da do da do do da do-hicky.
Cool. Looking forward to it!
at some point during the winter ;)
That could be sung in time to the Police song do do do dah dah dah .. I expect to see it on the drop later :D
hehehe :)
it's already winter down here, NO EXCUSES
*gulps*
It is already to the tune of Eminem's Without Me.
Knowing the name of the song certainly adds an extra meta joke :)
Just been listening to jesus is my dad on Drop,io. It's really good. Next week, I've got a week on my own, so I'm planning to write/sing a song. Good news is, my fave band (the barenaked ladies) released 3 of their songs on the latest album in a compatable form with Audacity, so I can remove the voice track and add my own, with the original music playing underneath!
I've chosen the song another spin. Thinking about singing either about Piquet or Silverstone last year
Wow. Have I just killed the conversation?
:)
was just thinking we're going to need to keep track of all the cover songs, because i've already lost track.
You know what they say... never discuss religion or politics!
It's been one week...
:D :D
Here's one for you: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/8033922.stm
In pic no.4, which one is the dummy? ;)
I now have that song going around my head... A lot!
At a guess, the right one.
Want me to upload it to the drop?
if it's legally shareable, please do.
I am busy plotting the ATP tour alongside the F1 season to work out how many sport-less weekends are in my future.
um, if I'm honest I have no idea. I legally bought the CD and I'm not making a profit uploading one track, so any ideas?
It never happens for me. The name of Pat W's blog is my life's mantra and slogan!
It's not... no.
are the audacity versions special ones? like created for community use?
Why oh why does other motor racing barely interest me. I need to get hooked!
Yes, but one week isn't one of them. I know, I'll upload the original version of another spin, so people know what it's like before my version next week.
just listening here because i'd never heard of it.
That works. The reason is, it was never released as a single. Shame really.
Here's one week...
http://www.last.fm/music/Barenaked+Ladies/_/One+Week
I've gotta go. See you guys later
you are a very annoying man :)
it's live though.
see ya chris.
i agree, that song had finally left my head after about 11 years. I only have myself to blame for clicking the link though.
C'mon - It's a great song. :D
I also like the 'Weird' Al version too. ;)
haven't looked at sidepodchart in ages, but i like that christine shares join forth place with bono.
also in the unique to this group table. christine is top ahead of radio 5live. i think it's good we have such diverse taste in... music :)
that would be the programming language forth there then. oops.
I am somewhat glad I don't use last.fm. I would have no friends. What I listen to alone is not always things I would like to admit to :D
It's OK. You can tell us you like Fred Dagg!
if it weren't for my gumboots, where would I be?
actually this is in my top 25 most played list, talk about kiwi cliche!
LOL!
You'd be in the hospital or infirmery...
Cause you would have a dose of the flu or even pluracy...
they made us learn it at primary school :(
my flatmate and I often put it on after a few drinks and have a singalong, it really amuses all the non-kiwis who think we're very multilingual and talented, I wouldn't have a clue what any of it means in English though, except for aroha!
I was expecting Split Enz there..
ahh, liking Split Enz isn't shameful though!
Didn't say it was.
I liek the Enz
That's a Billy Connelly song from ages past
Fred Dagg "borrowed" it, changed a few words and managed to turn it into an NZ cultural anthem. I reckon most kiwis I know have no idea Billy did it first :D
1974 http://www.themadmusicarchive.com/song_details.aspx?SongID=11120
I was wondering who came first - but it's definitely a song that applies to both countries equally!
it's just not looking good for kers, is it?
BMW are ditching it for Spain as well.
So back to between 3 and 6 cars running it. McLaren, Renault & Ferrari
BMW are also not running a DD Diffuser until they have evaluated the upgraded aero package they will use in Spain...
bonKERS
it different kind of felipe baby:
"Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, who tied the knot in November 2007 with Anna Rafaela Bassi, said it was a “good time” to think about having children."
hehehe.
if they have a kid I reckon it will be taller than its father by age 4.
I thought Renault won't run it either
Haven't seen anything from Renault about it yet. If true though, McLaren could be the only KERS team :D
Afternoon all. Just popping my head in to say hi.
Interesting that KERS seems to be falling out of favour isn't it? I think it is a pity as we've not yet had a chance to see the WIlliams system in action.
It's also just as well that there's no wide-area network version of KERS ;)
Kemblewatch....
1530 - Tuesday.
Williams have just turned up.
Cheers,
Rob.
Leaving it a bit late for some running aren't they?
ace. what's the weather like?
apparently button's leading the race for a spoty this year.
Cold and a bit blustery - no running today, tomorrow a cert.
Rob
with no olympics to contend with he is probably a shoe-in
and i know thats not the right expression but my brain has gone to sleep here at 12.44am
appreciate the heads-up rob.
wonder if i can blag an out-of-office day?
How many page 22's does one man need?
:)
I still can't get over there being a page 22 cake :)
haha. i actually quite enjoy the sound of f1 cars doing their thing.
There was a page 22 cake. :)
There was?
Hi everyone. Have done a Gavin by fainting, one way to get out of science I suppose.
Hey! You ok? You should try breathing more! :P
I'm alive. Don't remember a thing though.
Dude what happened? Do you remember anything beforehand? Have you been to hospital for a checkup?
If you want to talk to me on Skype later I'll be happy to help...
*waves* phew what a hectic day. Hi everyone :)
You alright RG? :/
Got hot, dizzy and down in about a minute. My mam is a nurse so she has checked me up and everything seems fine.
Despite the fact I don't have skype, thanks for the offer but I think I'll be okay, cheers though
Can I just ask quickly, because people seem unsure on the site why it was added to the wiki, why has BATracer become an unmentionable?:(
Apologies if it's a big bad reason but I honestly don't remember anything negative happening with batracer.
what was the subject?
i added it, cause i ruined my trip to the beach. by all means remove it from the list though.
I think it was because there was some argument about it, I think it was the thing with Scott where he complained or something
Radiation, nothing horrifying, just about the sun rays etc.
just wondering if people were conducting experiments on you...
Did your drinks bottle fail?
:D
ah really? :( that's a shame, I had absolutely no idea..
There's nothing to really discuss anyways, I was just wondering and a few people have asked :)
:D
How come you got away with a check up and I have had to have months of tests???
Just from fainting?
i only followed half the conversation, i was paddling in the sea at the time.
i got really annoyed with the game that got cancelled, and then the follow up that almost didn't happen. mostly the competition seems to have it in for me :)
I have already been far more successful than the team I modelled myself on, so I will be impressed with how it ends.
LOL BATracer ruined your trip to the beach? I know we took it seriously round here, but nobody yet has claimed that it ruined their day :)
with a1gp coming to a close, it looks like f2 might be worth following:
"Early and late shifts are in operation to ensure car build work is in progress from 0530-0100, seven days a week, as dedicated engineers and mechanics work towards the first scheduled group test."
"The Williams JPH1 has now covered more than 6,000kms during its test and development programme and ran with the adjustable front wing mechanism for the first time this week"
They're going for that rubbish as well?
*sign* :(
i've been keeping an eye on it, it does look good
It will help alot for overtaking, especially as it's a single make series
Does someone (other than the state) pay for your tests?
Because they suspected I had Epliepsy. Stupid really, because I have an office job and I have been a computer geek my whole life.
Every time I get tested, they tell me "oh, you're fine, but we're going to have to run another test." Every test has shown I'm in rude health, which makes me more depressed that they can't just draw a line under it!
It's all paid for by the state, thankfully!
ah thought it might be.
epilepsy can come on people at any time in their life, so it's worth the tests, but probably quite irritating
Yes it does. I'm looking forward to it and I think Williams will do a much better job of making cars than Ferrari did fir A1GP.
Yeah but I know it was from exhaustion and after 5 months I've had no more symptoms...
they look to be arriving on time for starters :)
Of course. Williams care if they do a good job because it's their reputaion at stake, whereas Ferrari's wasn't...
Eurosport isn't it on. Might catch a glimpse of it
Pass. Different style of doctors?
Haha, might be a cause
Yoda here?
looks like bernie has maybe woken up to twitter.
sucks for the guy who had it first
yeah, i don't see him getting that back in a hurry :(
coming soon, bernie sues every keyboard in the world as we see the introduction of the F0 button
and the removal of the f13 key?
using bernies mindset - "sure, why not, if it means a bit of extra money" :D
And the makers of "Big F1 accident"
same thing happened to F1.com...
tbh, they need sueing :P
I think I dislike Jenson doing well this year simply because his success bought that back from wherever it had gone to die 10 years ago.
And now, an F3 car that runs off chocolate, and is made of vegetables. The streeing wheel is made of carrots and the bodywork comes from potatos.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8031737.stm
Uhhh.. I've never seen an f3 car in my sunday lunch!!
it did, but bernie had to pay to get it. with twitter, you can't own a username, you're at the mercy of the chief twits. he'll likely get that one for free.
You know how its made by Lola...
A healthy alternative for Kimi to munch on next season?
;)
Did a refresh on the doohickey by mistake, can I confirm that my computer isn't losing it?
see now I should be sleeping but am distracted by old F1.com articles on the internet archive.
Despite losing his record finishing streak when he crashed out of the Brazilian Grand Prix, and falling 18 points behind championship-leader Kimi Raikkonen as a result, Michael Schumacher insists that he is not worried about his chances of winning a record sixth title in 2003.
Good to know.
People from Warick made an F3 car from vegetables....i'm not sure its your computer thats lost it....
a chat with simon gillett.
just for fun, spot the bbc editors mistake ;)
No, I have numbers next to comments now. Sorry to Mr C if I'm ruining a big surprise, but I wanna know that it isn't my computer going mad.
it means the style sheet hasn't loaded properly. just give it refresh, happens sometimes.
no more doohickey work is planned for a very long time btw.
Like on the left big numbers? I had that once.
one n or two?
In April 2003 Ralf was worried about his future. So why did we have to put up with him for another 4 years? Ugh.
Afternoon. God AS levels are stressful... despirately needing sleep, but i've so much to do. how is everyone? happy i hope?
yay!
yay, means more lclt love then.
all good now.
donington news:
"The promoters of the 2010 British Grand Prix at Donington have been given until June 30th to provide the local council with the paperwork it needs in order to get the planning permission signed off so that the race can go ahead."
Just wanna bring up something I found after a tweeting discussion with lou and chris evans, in case people haven't seen it, but it appears GP2 is now on Setanta but in possibly highlights form at least, haven't seen any news about live races and the official site is very vague
apologies if this was known aggggges ago :P
Why does The Satan Channel always take the good stuff, the football, the gp2, the dtm (okay), the boxing, the golf...
Well he's not having vivaf1 off me unless he pays hansomely
Well, well, well... will something really come out of this? Or is this just 8 weeks of delaying the inevitable?
This will be my only comment for now - too tired to look back or stay on. See you in the morning. :)
Yay for Setanta
At least it wasn't bloomin' Sky Sports!
I'm saying delaying the inevitable, perhaps a morale boost for the donington team. Can't see them still getting the goahead.
vivaf1?
2010 Cost-regulating teams (of which, surely, there can't be many are to be allowed movable rear wings as well as a greater range of movement and frequency at the front wings.
From Alianora: http://formula1home.com/forum/weblog_entry.php?e=730
Looks like Pitlane Fanatic to me ;)
That's where it currently points
ahh, cool. didn't know it as that name at all.
I bought it just in case I ever want a blog
A handy name to keep in your back pocket though
:D
Danger Jackie! Danger! ;)
Actually I don't have enough to say to warrant one yet and I'm really enjoying the discussions on PF right now
8 more weeks? After giving them 2 extensions already?
*sigh*
Bernie - just can the British GP now - Donnington's promoters appear to be useless and Silverstone is almost as bad.
If you want to get the British fighting for the GP - send it to France or Germany. Then people will actually do something to get it back from them.
You know what and I hate to say it, I'm sick fed up hearing about Donington, it's just not gonna happen
it's the same old thing with a big constructiong thing in the UK really. It always amazes me how quick Abu Dhabi has come together when we have our problems, look at the new Wembley and the ridiculous problems it had with it's budget, other money issues and the deadline of building it.
A school round the corner from me had a mini swine flu outbreak
Just saying
Hey everyone, long timey no speaky. How we all doing?
Fake Bernie twittered that facemasks in team colours would be available for Spain
I'm alive.
Aye, couldn't agree more, really need more sense when coming into these things
Hey Chris, not bad. You?
Good to hear.
I love Fake F1 tweets
Pretty good cheers. Though getting bored with crappy TV.
I put a message on here for you about that on Sunday!
Sorry buddy, missed that one
That's okay. It was only...
Belated :D then
So here's a fun thought for an evening conversation...
What is your favourite F1 moment of all time?
What I mean is a moment that gave you simple pure F1 joy. It's worth thinking about because you have to have a favourite really.
What I'm thinking of are moments like Jenson winning after so many years... The moment you realised Alonso had toppled Schumi's dominance... One of Murray's crazy comments. Or was it something away from the track?
It was Lewis in China on the kitty litter for me, sorry if I offend people but that was just so funny.
My absolute favourite is a choice of three, I couldn't choose between either of these:
1) Murray in Japan when Damon Hill came round the final chicane and that legendary line 'And I'm going to have to stop, because I have a lump inside my throat' - it's just a legendary moment of happiness and success and everthing, plus that was when I started really, really getting into F1
2) Rubens Barrichello's first win in germany 2000 and seeing him in tears on the podium and when he got out the car being so damn happy and everything :) Amazing moment and I was so so so so so proud for him!!
3) Brawn GP's 1-2 in Australia, the underdogs overcoming the odds and just everything, I know it's a very recent thing and there could be so so more many possibilities but the feeling I got from this rivals the previous 2 I mentioned and a Honda fan it was an incredible moment to see Jenson, Rubens and Ross al there huddles in sheer bliss :)
Not sure if it is my favourite of all time, but the last couple of laps in Brazil last year were pretty special. I went through the full range of emotions in the space of five minutes. It still sends a shiver down my spine every time I see it.
Same thing happens to me whe I see Sutil running
That was special :D
Jackie it was supposed to be a nice happy thing! Tsk!
Were you really happy when that happened?
I much prefer moments when somebody does something to win than when somebody does something to lose.
fantastic!
Erm, was the year 2003, Brazil, something about that, that one race.
Fake Vettel says:
Did you know that the 08 Honda was codenamed H1N1? Apparently it was a Pig to drive! Boooom Tish!
:D
It was a happy thing, I was just about rolling on the floor laughing
Well alright then :)
Itw as just one of them awwwwwwwwww :) moments when you just feel so pleased for them and you know it means the world to them. I still think rubens got such a raw deal at ferrari in terms of how good he was, but when your teammate is michael schumacher, you're always going to get that
I'm sorry, I know its sad but I am being honest
Vettel's victories have both bee special
No I just wanted to check. I understand what you're talking about :)
I agree although this one had a slight crimp in it because of Webber.
Some great suggestions from you Lukeh :)
Yeah, his first win was fantastic.
Just noticed that all three of yours are underdog stories. Always good for the heartstrings those :)
you're right! I've never ever realised that :)
Hamilton winning the WDC last year. That last lap in Brazil was something else. Also his win at Silverstone last year, again that was something else!! :)
That's coz they break all the rules and use slave labour in the middle east...
James Allen has a 'who's doing what that's new in Spain' piece on his blog
Jonny Herbert in the Stewart getting the teams first win at the Nurburgring after frankly, a dreadful year for him.
First lap of The Eurpoean Grand Prix at Donnington in 1993
Mika Hakkinen's first race in the McLaren MP4/8 - outqualifying Senna
Mika Hakkinen's first win at the European Grand Prix at Jerez in 1997 - I know it was team orders - but it was wonderful to see.
Hakkinen's title in 1998
Finally - the 1987 Monaco and Detroit Grand Prix. Team Lotus' final wins at the hands of Ayrton Senna. Happy, but also sad.
That, Brazil 2008, Imola 2005, Japan 1996, Silverstone 1992, and Honda pulling out of the sport (all 3 times!)
Donnington given till June 30th to produce documents required by planning department, apparently
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDrWrYwIBB8
This is why USGPE...F1...thing will fail :(
Harsh but fair
Why doesn't that post end with ... and therefore I think you should pick these drivers for your FR team
Geez! Just had a great big lecture from Mum about my priorities of work and money and how I should maybe go stay with my Dad and stuff. I'm not getting a chance to have some sort of an evening here!
Phew, now that that's out of the way, evening everyone. What's the good word? :)
Yo Scott, how was the first day?
I'll let him answer before I tell him my day.
T'was good, mainly observation and being shown around. Found out for a start that I'm not working weekends at all! :D Plus, I'm getting paid weekly, or as Mr C would say "WEEKLY!", which is cool despite the fact that quite a bit of that will be depleted due to expenses and stuff.
It's just the travel arrangements which we're trying to sort out which is why the suggestion of staying with Dad is coming up.
But yep, all in all a good first day. Nice friendly colleagues and a nice, fun and relaxed atmosphere :)
Sounds aweosme, and weekends off! :D I also get paid weekly and absolutely love it, it keeps my checking an eye on financial side of things a lot easier personally. Great to hear it went well though for you.
Is he the one with the big tv or am I getting confused here?
When I try to open a link in a new tab or window from the lclt I get http://www.sidepodcast.com/ria/ajax/[http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/index.htm]
Obviously it is not a big deal to modify the url to get to the right page but this never used to happen. I have only noticed it over the last two weeks
I know, it's very awesome! Means I don't have to miss the Parade Lap, qualifying and the race AND I can be around for the Debrief and panel/chat/ whatever else is going on. :D
Just had a comment moderated
Speaking of parade lap, what time will it be starting?
Yup he is, and he recently got Sky+ HD installed by a mate who he sold a car to who just happened to be a Sky engineer and also had a couple of the older HD boxes. HD channels = awesome :D
Just a pity the F1 isn't in HD then ;)
sorted. to answer the question it's since we changed how the "link" button works in realtime. might need a rethink.
try to fix 'em as i see them but likely can't grab them all.
By the way, for those who haven't heard it yet:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/jesusismydad-mp3
I don't think it's as funny as the other songs around here, but writing the lyrics was rather easy and I think it's good ;)
And the lyrics:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/jesus-is-my-dad-lyrics-txt
I see we have a potential new panellist listed on the wiki. He is asking when the show is recorded and I have replied sying Sunday night 9ish sidepodtime. Is that the plan for this weekend or does the rac screw that up.
It may be worth putting a planned recording time/date on the next week's panellist page in future just to make it clear.
Enjoyed that mate, really did, some very nifty lyrics in there. I like the verse about the family and the other one about cutting the chicane. Nice stuff mate, your voice is not bad either.
Your through to the next round ;)
Not to beat you to anything but I talked to him earlier ;) Said he might be able to attend, but a bit late as he has a family who will be asleep.
Also thought I was Alex, now I know I'm as clever as him...
I'm through to boot camp! :D
Glad you liked it. Seems it more in the "good voice song" bracket rather than the "funny song" bracket. ;)
Well I'll never get to RGesque levels of conciseness. That's my dream :)
It seems like there might be a two tier system ;)
I hope he can make it. We need newbies to keep things fresh.
sounds about right, cheers :)
good plan.
Haha.
'The one who never hears tick-tock'
:D
If we start putting up a magic tree we'll know we've got problems!
"But really loves that Timo Glock" ;)
:D
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21435.html
According to Joe Donington's planning permission could get pulled tonight.
Tick Tock Timo Glock
Hold on a moment....
:)
Well there's a surprise...
So that's it - we're on the verge of losing the British GP :(
Seeing as I am always asking too... yes it is!
Oh god, I've put ideas into his head now... ;)
Evening. :)
The 2010 British GP will be at Silverstone. It was always going to be at Silverstone. This just brings forward the date that Bernie gets his default fee.
Nice - you should have sung my song because you can actually sing...
I hope your right, I don't see it happening.
Nah, I reckon it'll go back to Sliverstone...
It's either that or Bernie will buy Donnington on the cheap.
But I think that's unlikely
Evening all,
In my italian language class today - we spent 20 minutes on the history of Ferrari :) Hilarious. One of my colleagues doesn't like formula one, but I still kept talking to her anyway...
Pop quiz for the evening?- do you know where the prancing horse logo comes from? or at least who also used to use it?
Any rumours that Sidepodcast towers is considering a bid ?
I think they are concentrating their efforts on a team entry.
Can I just point out that it's spelt Donington?
Thank you.
Ill happily fund a Scaeletrix Grand prix
i spell it... l.a.u.g.h.i.n.g.s.t.o.c.k
joe posted an update a while back btw:
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/05/05/donington-lives-to-fight-another-day/
It was used in memorial of an Italian pilot who fought in one of the World Wars who sadly got shot down or something. It's stuck ever since.
No ;)
Oh alright then :)
I like the "or something" in this sentence :)
You know, I was listening to Tell Me Lies in the car this morning when I was getting a lift to work and I thought about your song. I was also going over how I'd sing it. :D
If you want, I can do a recording of me singing to the song and send it to you to create a cover version of your cover version ;)
if we're gonna start correcting grammar, i may need to stop commentn'
Me fail English? That's unpossible!
you misspelt com...uhh.. nevermind mr c!
You can also spell it "tragic that Donington may not be able to afford to be a proper racing circuit again" :(
Bravo! He was known as the hero of the skies in the first world warm Frencesco Baracca.
Does anyone other than me here live in London...
Ooooh Bassano!
eh?
We have a different Australianspelling - F.A.R.C.E.
uh-oh...
It was a lot more unpleasant than that :)
I was just going for that one too :)
Because if they're so strapped for cash, how are they going to make the track race ready again?
You're right!
Sorry. As a lad that was born in the area I can't stand to see it spelt Don*ington. It may as well be a swear word!
the wheatcroft's are not strapped for cash?
multitasking is never good :)
it's funny when you're all picking on someone else's spelling/grammar :)
Tom Wheatcroft won't sell him the circuit
watching the football as well? ;)
Fighter squadron someone called Baracco or something like that
So do you think that whatever happens, Donington will be left in a state where it can hold races again?
of course.
i like my multitasking at the mo; commenting, watching and relaxing at the scoreline. Ahhh bliss. :P
Gillett's comapny owns a 150 year lease from Tom Wheatcroft's company. If Donington loses the GP the lease defaults back to Wheatcroft and he has stacks of money
Steven, you are close. It was a man, Francesca Baracca
see pictures
Definitely
and a nice new tunnel.
aah forgot! gees. - about to load it up... doing work actually. i'm giving a presentation on friday in Milano and need to put it together
Relaxing even more now :D
football. gees. amazing score.
Oh dear... In my first ever bet I... due to a complicated set of circumstances went for a 3-1 win for Arsenal. I had... literally 91 pence riding on that outcome!
with all your combined f1 knowledge... you bet on a football match?
Hey big spender!
Maybe he got confused cos Arsenal were wearing red, so he automatically thought that as red always wins in the end in F1, it was the same in football
ah man now you cant buy 2 packs of sweeties or a can or something :(
I think it is safe to say that it is not looking good for you
Fourstar talked me into it. It was a silly thing where there were some people suggesting the scores for the match. And then I boldly suggested this score (off the top of my head). Obviously I needed to back it up. So I said... "I will place all of the money in my pocket on the outcome".
Turned out I only had 91 pence. But Paddy Power* will take any amount as a stake.
*Other betting firms are available.
They didn't tell me that both teams wore red!
:)
That's £19.42 I'll never see!
:) I still remember the adrenalin when i was listening to the horses as a teenager. winning $11 seemed like a great afternoon, but the fact i lost about $15 in all the other bets just never seemed to factor into my joy of winning a whole $11.
Apparently it's your reaction to this that decides how you feel about betting.
If your reaction is like mine where I feel I lost the winnings then you're unlikely to come back. Whereas if only the wins mean anything to you then you are likely to become addicted.
Very interestingly in the world of betting beginners luck has been proven. It sounds silly but it is true. People who continue to gamble are generally far more likely to have experienced beginners luck. Because on average of course you always lose but of course at random some people are lucky at the beginning. Those people are always chasing those early highs.
It is of course, in statistical terms, a self-selecting sample.
That was a lot of "of courses" from me!
The score is now 3-1 so you could be half right
Woohoo. If it stays this way I will just explain to fourstar that he misinterpreted what I meant.
Horses for courses?
Just trying to keep things sable ;)
*stable
Sorry Alex, but your repeated offending tonight has earned you this
You are totally right. I'm still convinced I can make it big, but I rarely gamble now - it's really the more personal bets that I'll make. Like betting on a friend moving overseas and random stuff like that.
I shall get to work on recording some vocals for my version of Gavin's song, as he suggested, in a sec ;)
I still haven't time to listen Gavin - things are a little hectic. For example - I'm at work at 10:30pm local time:(
I'll listen when I get back, and maybe I'll even leave a voicemail, but there won't be any singing. If I get bored while travelling, I'll write some Haiku about Sunday's race. Anyway, hometime for me. Have a good night everyone :)
BMW threats towards the 2 teir championship continue.
Will BMW leave F1 so soon without winning anything?
I can do production duties again if needed.
Could Peter Sauber buy back his shares in the team and rename it back to Sauber or am I being optimistic?
Hehehehe.
I can't promise to make you sing like an angel though.

Argh, sorry... cat walked across laptop..
Surely it would have been more
,mnjbhdsz
??
I did ask her but she just miaowed
haha.
Going off early tonight, bye all.
Night RG
This is all I could get of her pic wise as she kept trying to attack my phone, laser eyes! :D
I imagine her doing a robot voice!
Great, Mum's been incessantly talking to me about travel arrangements for my job again! God, I've not had one minute's peace about the whole thing all night.
:D
at the moment she's just sitting here watching sidepodcast, its very cute :P
Without wanting to seem silly about this... The best tactic is to go on the offensive. Actually decide what you want to do and make it clear that you have made a decision and explain what it is. Then say this and oftentimes this is all that Mother's want to hear. They want you to decide.
Sometimes you think that just letting it wash over you is the quickest route to peace. It is not. Making them run out of subject is by far the quickest method.
Where would we be without Alex? :P
LUKEH! I WANT YOU TO COMMENT FOR ME! I THINK BRAWN WILL WIN EVERY RACE FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON! WITH RUBENS WINNING AS MANY AS JENSON THUS LEAVING JENSON WINNING THE SEASON BUT ONLY JUST!
You do have to watch mothers though otherwise they will eat your kitkat! Just ask Lukeh ;)
Seriously, my mum running out of subject is extremely rare! She'll say something to me about 6 times in a night and even when I tell her to stop because I get it, she'll still have a million and one reasons why she has to keep saying it.
See, thats what I thought she said but I'm just not up to scratch with my cat linguistic skills!

http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/kittyspc2-jpg
:D
In my experience the answer is to say not just why you get it but what you are going to do about it. Even if it is something like, "that's interesting, but of course I would have to discuss it with Dad. I'm not sure quite what I think yet. But his reaction will have a bearing"
"So you will discuss it?"
"Yes I'll talk to him on XXX"
A plan giving them a future nag date is good for changing the subject.
My mother too could talk for Britain.
Right well good luck Scott :)
I have to go to bed!
Night alex :)
right, now to record the vocals :D
Night!
Evening everyone. 1 x Vauxhall Astra has been collected. Nice drive.
Excellent! I go for total immersion. :-)
GP2 will be delayed or highlights on UK Setanta but live on Irish Setanta. That's annoying. DTM used to be live on MotorsTV but in low quality, now it'll be delayed or highlights on Setanta..
I have to go now, orders are I must be in bed for 11 if apparently I've a chance of getting ready in time to leave.
Night all. :)
night Scott
sited not 100 feet from the dingy old tunnel
Night!
Blimey. A slow night.
It is indeed :(
christine's unwell. am working on a temporarily revised sidebar at the moment.
ye gods this site needs a redesign.
im convinced angel's laser eyes (sister's kitty) have slowed down time as we know it
I'm trying to think of a reply to Scott's woes with his Mum. I'm getting similar grief and I'm 29 and have been out of the house for a decade.
May I suggest a "last five podcasts" tab?
(get well soon Christine)
am adding a player, which basically the same as f1 minute player on the right hand side, on with spc shows.
would that help? mainly doing it so there's the option of a volume control :)
That sounds goooood!
it looks surprising bad though!
That would be lovely :-)
Laser Eyes. A year or so ago I was madly in love with a song by that name!
There is a 30-second audio preview in the player here:
http://www.last.fm/music/DARTZ!/_/Laser+Eyes
There's also a shockingly bad live version on video.
Doohickey broke the link so try this
not bad :) a bit too indie for me but still catchy!
If I had electronic eyes
(with lasers as their main components)
I'd kill all those who I depise
(I'd fight them, I'd fight them)
If I had electronic eyes
(with lasers as their main components)
I'd kill all those who I depise
(I'd fight them, I'd fight them off)
It's not impossible to dance
(AI love)
Robot romance
It's not impossible to feel when your heart is made of chrome and steel.
homepage sidebar has been updated. haven't okayed this with christine, so still subject to change. please let us know your thoughts.
a new player has been added and the forward/back buttons allow you to skip through shows. can't decide whether the forward button should take you to the next podcast on the list or whether it makes more sense for that to be the back button?
also a link to gp+ magazine farther down, as joe's been sending us loads of links recently.
Living dangerously? ;-)
I like the update and if you are planning on making those players available to other sites, pls let me know.. Agreed on not knowing whether fwd or back should go to the next show..
She'll not thank you for putting Felipe Baby in there :)
Looks and sounds good though.
we pretty much discussed all the changes at the weekend. i'm not that brave ;)
f1 minute player is already available here: http://www.f1minute.com/share/
we didn't think there was much call for embedding spc shows?
it's in the podcast feed (as suggested by commenters), and the player just plays the feed. again, i am not a brave man :D
:D You must be feeling better though. Hope Mrs C gets some attention as well as the site so that she's better too.
OK, it's good if you know what's going on. Something to think about though, if you are a new visitor, it's not at all obvious. I know web sire design is really hard so I'm not criticizing, but it would be good if there was a list of recent podcasts or similar somewhere. I do like the player though!
ummm....
Got F1 Minute already :-)
Just thought it would be a cool thing to have the SPC shows on blog sidebars. I have no idea how much it would get used. If it turns out 'not much' then pull it. Depends if it is worth the work.
understood, lemmie have a play.
Actually, I'm in two minds about this. When I discovered SPC, it took me ages to find everything on the site. In some ways that's a good thing, it kept me coming back :-)
you're more than welcome to copy the html from the sidebar and add it to your site. same for anyone else.
we'll have a think about setting up a page, the video player is quite popular, but i can't imagine that many people would want us waffling on their website?
there is that too. maybe we'll look at working the idea into the redesign?
I just meant that you should make her some honey and lemon or something. You do know how to use a kettle don't you?
At least you aren't the only one with questionable wording :-)
Well after listening to the last panel, you should advertise the "sexyest voices in F1". (Just between us guys that is)
I like the idea of the player on the front page but I think you need to differeniate between each show. As it stands on a race weekend we will have 4 digests one after the other which could cause people problems.
On the Joe advert would it not be better to advertise one of his free sites so that people could see how he writes and they can be diverted to his pay site from there? If people get sent straight to his pay site they may leave immediately on finding that there is a cost.
:D
my ummm was because i got carried away with the html.
So easy to do isn't it? :D
I have no idea. And I have no idea if anyone would sit on the webpage and listen for half an hour for a debrief, rather than download the MP3. Its just an added option.
damn good point. we're limited by what the player can do and space at the moment, but you're right.
fair point, but my selfish reason for linking to gp+ is because i love what joe's doing with micropayments. same reason i champion the autosport online subscriptions. i love the idea of niche content at affordable prices and wanted to encourage that. rather than "here's a cool blog you should check out".
i can be easily swayed though.
I disagree, of course you should be linking directly to Joe, the advert itself clearly states the cost.
I meant GP+, not Joe.
Yeah he's got my vote too. I like everything he's doing. Now if only I could get a copy of his "encyclopedia" !!!
yup, got ya.
If Toyota win, what will be the national anthem of the constructor? German? {}
It should be the Japanese. Though on current form, the German theme is just as likely to be heard.
Austria?
haven’t looked at sidepodchart in ages, but i like that christine shares join forth place with bono. {Comment #107}
Also, the top of the "Free Downloads" section last.fm recommends to me is the 23 April 2009 edition of F1 Minute. last.fm has plainly figured out I'm a Sidepodcast fan :)
What's the criteria though? The company is Japanese, as is the Team Principal, but based in Germany. It's the same for Force India isn't it? Owned and run by an Indian, based in the UK.
yay! :)
There's a sidepodchart?
yeah. the last.fm music chart:
http://www.last.fm/group/sidepodcast
oh dear, looks like blogf1 and f1wolf have both gone awol again.
media temple are having an awful couple of days :(
I've just found the "Pick of the Pops" theme tune (called "At the Sign of the Swingin' Cymbal") Not 'arf.
An little update on the Victor incident from Sunday.
UK air accident specialists are not intending to investigate an unusual incident at an air show during which a Handley Page Victor bomber unexpectedly became airborne during a high-speed taxi demonstration. But while the Air Accidents Investigation Branch says it is "aware" of the incident, it is not conducting an inquiry. The Civil Aviation Authority has so far been unable to comment further, pending clarification of the incident, but says the aircraft is not on the civil register.
So someone is going to get spanked by the CAA.
I guess they get a little bit sensitive when a plane that is not certified for flight takes off.
ace. where'd you find it?
Scary. I'm not telling anyone what I listen to !!!
Is it bad that 3 things go through my mind when I see the photo's
1) Oh.. thats not good at all...
2) ...but it looks so cool to see them in the air again...
3) ...and I missed it! Damn damn damn!
that' just what amy said :(
it landed immediately thought right? it didn't do a full circuit and come back in again.
My nieces hassle me enough, I don't need to put it online ;-)
http://www.radiorewind.co.uk/radio1/theme_tunes.htm
You need to register (free) to hear the audio though.
It still left the ground. Stopped with about 150ft of tarmac to spare. 8O
Unlicensed, uncertificated, unregistered, without owners permission, endangerment, crew non current.
Flight recording? I bet the pilot is going "Woo Hooo!!!!!"
when you say it like that...
but if the guy was catching a cross wind what else could be done?
Max up to his old tricks again:). Sorry I couldn't resist.
Might as well go for the full set I suppose, if you're going to break some rules, break them all at once.
Question is, who is responsible in law and what is the potential penalty?
Not get it close to V1 is the obvious one and respect the crosswind limits on the airframe.
With some rather trumpetty, nervous sounds in the background. :D
Who wants to see a plane like that doing 50 mph? Everyone would want to see it go close to V1 at least.
Maybe it was "whoooooaaaa, oops, did anyone see that?"
Or to go back to the Teletubbies...
"Again! Again!" ;)
LOL.
The Victor is a difficult beast. The wings are very canted so it has been known to take off with liberal forward stick pressure - where the nosewheel remained on the ground and the main gear to leave the bonds of the earth..
Stull an ugly beast though - and I love it. :D
Which funnily enough is exactly what the Wright brothers said back in 1903 :)
Right - time to go watch a film in bed.
Tonights entertainment of choice is the classic Back to the Future. :D
pressed enter too soon.
Night peeps and peepettes..
But the voiceover will say "no"
A true classic. We have all three films - our lot watch them over and over.
Night Flibster
Night. And I really should get back to work, this is too distracting
really is. i don't think i've ever met anyone who didn't enjoy the first one.
night all who're leaving.
I think I'd better go too, night.
see ya andy.
For anyone who has not seen them yet Alianora has a couple of superb articles on the 2010 technical and sporting regulations. You really need to read these.

seconded.
just posted a new daily thread: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/06/daily-6th-may-2009/
might be worth reposting that link over there too.
