It was a really quiet day yesterday, so we had to come up with other ways to amuse ourselves, like record a panel and debrief show. With it being a beautiful bank holiday in the UK, these should both be edited and available later today, but no promises, as I am coming down with the sniffles. Anyway, here's what we've been discussing recently:
- We're after your Twitter (or a-like) submissions for the "describe your fave F1 event in 140 characters or less" competition. Might need to come up with a catchier name than that as well. You know you want to have a go, give it some thought and then share your answers in the comments.
- We're pondering how feasible it is to go and live in Finland, after marvelling at how well the Skype conference call sounded last night. There was a bumper number of people on the call, and Kathi was hosting, so it was no problem. She posted her internet speeds in this comment, and after we picked our jaws up off the floor, we started looking at emigration.
- On a weekend when there is very little in the way of F1 news, I had a look back at this time last year in yesterday's F1 Minute. It's nice to know how far we've come and see that we don't need to worry about the smaller teams and their budgets. Oh, wait a minute...
That'll do for now. Keep us updated with any news you spot in the comments, although I'm not really anticipating any. Also let us know what you're doing if you have a day off, or moan about your day if you don't. I'll see you in the comments.
New day!
What's happening this week?
[Well, until Friday anyway]
Also let us know what you’re doing if you have a day off, or moan about your day if you don’t
on that note, moan moan moan I'm off to work. I shall probably check in on commenting later, so no one is allowed to go to sleep.
I (heart) bank holidays.
I'll be at work in 6 hours
[This is my once a fortnight; sleep in sunday - stay up all night]
Have a fun day and think up lots of great questions
I have my textiles exam on thursday and friday *cries*
Catch you later :D
See ya Amy. :)
Final day of freedom before I start work again for me.
Bye Amy! Thanks for being on the Panel today you were great!
Which is a good site except that Nico doesn't know how to pronounce his own name. Silly boy.
:D lol
With all his nationalities it is not surprising he is confused
http://www.namethatdriver.com/david_coulthard.asp
Worst pronunciation
Enjoy it my good man :)
Right, it's time for LPG and I to go to bed. Night all.
Night Andy and LPG!
i have arrived at work and managed to swap shifts for next monday to a 10am start. I smell a hosting job. The things i do for sidepodcast, i hate late shifts!
true sidpodcast dedication right there :P
Incredible. I look forward to your show. If you need any help just ask.
yay! amy that's brilliant! :D
seconded and thirded here!
...although, also quite scary ;)
Woohoo! Will look forward to your show, Amy. :D
I've finally caught up with all the comments... Loved, just loved, the Twitter question, lou. :)
The thing that made me laugh about that was at the time, as Lou explained it, there was a collective 'Oh... my.. god!' silence from everyone in sheer shock at such a question, which was really funny :D
Wow! Christine, that collective silence must stay in the final edit - would love to hear that. :D A shame I missed this show - sounded like tons of fun. :)
Although the initial worrying fear of trying to think of a good answer soon kicked in :P
:D i'm glad people liked it. when i said it i had a horrible feeling that people would hate it and it would kinda sink as an idea or question and go very very wrong.
It was a great question and I was just stunned trying to think of a subject then how to cover it in 140 characters
haha that silence really threw me tbh i kinda thought my phone had died lol i would have done anything to have seen people's expressions though.
The brilliant thing about it personally was that it really, really made people think, as well as the stunned nature of thinking of what to actually say! :D
Instead it was fab and now has its own thread. I hope people are going to be posting answers on there.
Hands down truth, my eyes widened and my jaw did drop. Honestly, we don't want to go ruining the question by constantly saying how fab it was, but it was a fantastic and unqie idea from yourself.
i'm still thinking of a good one tbh..
Also, it was unique. Unqie is a silly word.
I sure will! Let me have a think, then I'll post it there. :)
my look was one of "oh god dont ask me first" as i tried to think of an event and how to sum it up at the same time
that's kinda why i asked if there were any volunteers, i though people would need some thinking time. i kinda wished that Mr C had been on the panel a little :P just cause i would have loved to have heard his.
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/03/f1-nostalgia-for-the-21st-century/
am still thinking now... coulda been a long show!
hahaha :)
i have already thought of my killer question, but no actual questions. Thus i am hoping for a news filled week
you'll have the GP to help you too ;) oo can't wait to hear you're killer question.
There's the small matter of a Grand Prix before then too ;)
You don't need to do all the questions today
there is always the fear that spain will be a boring race that generates no questions! I need something to do at work today... I lie, im actually quite busy
well people say Bahrain is normally boring.. lol i think spain will be a little predictable... in the way that Fernando will probably try and get pole again... but it's going to be imo the first proper test to see if the new regs have worked :)
I guarantee that you will see questions everywhere in the next week. Every time some mentions a new technical piece or anything about budget caps or any interview you will see questions.
Listen to Steven he is often right about these things :P
It will also be the time where many teams will bring massive car changes. I feel it will be as unpredictable as Melbourne (but yeah, Alonso will get the pole for his fans :-) )
Oh thanks Lou. You say the nicest things.
hehe :P
true, true. Time to put my phone away and do some work, see you all in 12 hours!
have fun amy!
Have fun at work
see ya :)
okay it's getting late, time for some sleep for me, i'll try and put this very unproductive day for textiles work behind me and hope i get more done tomorrow. speak to you all tomorrow evening and thanks to everyone on the panel and all the commenters :) twas a lovely evening x
goodnight :)
Good night Lou
Time to go too i think and finish watching Little Miss Sunshine in bed. Goodnight everybody whos still awake, thanks also for a fantastic panel and general good evening :)
Good night Lou, congratulations for the panel!
And good night all, I also have to dine and sleep...
one for christine in the morning:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jByfWOLmjo
Fantastic!
it's almost like a carling advert, only minus the beer :)
Err, okay! ;)
christine's not gonna understand that is she?
:(
:D
Nice explanation on Speed TV's chalk n talk about Push vs Pull Rod suspension. Especially in relation to RBR and diffuser options
http://tinyurl.com/dhv8zw
No Twitter account for me, so I've posted my twit in the other thread instead. :)
It takes some time to get used to Asia shift hours again... :|
nice one.
i just woke up early for no good reason :(
meant to come back on the discussion we were having prior to the live show last night. on the subject of the music industry, a couple of points from my perspective:
- we need a rule about not having interesting discussions when i'm sleeping / busy. it's quite inconsiderate y'know! this was the second time the idea of making a record came up in the comments and i slept through the first one :(
- the problem with the discussion going on is the music industry is a ridiculously complicated mess and you can't sum up in a line or two just how difficult releasing a single is. weird al doesn't just phone up someone and mention he might fancy ruining one of their records. there are palms to be greased, favours to be called in and that's before the vagaries of international copyright law come into play. most of the problems can be solved by waving money at people. sadly, that requires having a quantity worth waving.
- christine and i are having way to much fun with sidepodcast right now, just as it is. life is pretty much perfect. getting exponentially bigger is any way shape of form will almost certainly ruin things. for evidence see the pop group the rembrandts, a great songwriting duo who's abilities were scuppered when they wrote the popular soundtrack to friends. suddenly they had more wealth than they could ever have asked for, and the first thing they did with it was to follow their dreams... to different sides of america. result = no more songs for rembrandts fans (technically i think the band may have reformed many years later after spending it all, but that invalidates my argument, so lets brush over that fact eh?).
that last comment probably needed to finish with a some kind of inspirational rally cry. keep poddling along didn't seem to cut it.
what's the sidepodcast equivalent of 'rock on'?
Sneaky... :P
Pod on? :D
And... Mr C? Up early? What has the world come to?!
i think mr c needs more sleep!
I think he slept again...
Good morning all.
Umm, unfortunately my day is very swiftly Tremayning...
I guess everyone is sleeping in because it's a bank holiday in the UK? We don't get ours in Viking-land until Friday...
Where's Journeyer?
Chance would be a fine thing – writing the chapter about the Ferrari 312T3 for MBW...
Oh you tease!
What's the book about? Mediocre Ferrari F1 cars?
Oi! Not sleeping here!
I'm looking for pictures (of racing cars :-) ) and maps (of the 'golden triangle') for an illustration project that has to be in the post tomorrow...
Tsk! It wasn't mediocre. Good thing I'm not researching via Wikipedia...
Not this one, I hope
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Triangle_(Southeast_Asia)
Now, what was I saying about Wikipedia?
Hello you lovely lot. :)
Morning Scott. What news?
Last day before I'm back to work, so I'm just enjoying it while I can.
Interestingly you can do a cover without permission. But it costs you money as you say. This came up when somebody (Pink maybe) wanted to do a cover of a Rolling Stones song and the Rolling Stones didn't want her to. They were complaining that the rules didn't make it impossible to stop her. But in the end she didn't do the cover anyway because it would have been prohibitively expensive to do... For Pink!
If you get permission, which is pretty straightforward if you are on a record label - but obviously not always guaranteed, you get into a profit sharing agreement which means you don't have to pay anything up front. They just take part of the money you make.
Anyway none of this is to say it's worth while doing for Sidepodcast.
a) It's already available for free
b) It would be really complicated to do
c) Mr C and Christine would have to live on opposite sides of Finland like the Rembrants but with faster internet
So that's that then :)
I went a little bit negative in that sentence... The rules made it impossible to stop her.
Mr C, I should be around for the parade lap!
w00t! :D
Time to come up with some podsafe car related suggestions! You were very good at that last time Scott!
Wasn't the T3 the 1978 car or am I talking like Flavio?
At this stage, I may miss the whole damn lot!
I am going to have a go at recording 'Tell me Lies' tonight. All I could find was a MIDI file ( I have the actual song) so it's going to be badly sung and cheesy - but hopefully very funny!
I might too depending on which day of the weekend I'm working this week,
I have a Mother's Day Brunch :(
:(
Although I feel it might seem like I'm not exactly flexible if I say I want to work Saturdays on "GP weekends".
Badly sung and cheesy is what we do best here...
...except for Christine's efforts of course!
Mother not into F1?
Not really. I'm here because I don't know anyone that likes or watched F1...
And it's Mother-in-Law BTW. Mum is 10,000km away in NZ...
Morning all.
Hey Christine. Feeling any better? :)
Morning. Enjoying your day off?
Oh you know, have felt better, have felt worse. Can't complain.
Mr C has decided that you don't want to move to opposite sides of America. I think that was the thrust of his argument ;)
Feeling better?
I can't say I'm using it to it's full potential, but it's well timed so I can do some lovely editing :)
Good to hear :)
Ah. I'm not sure anyone should use the Rembrandts as an argument, should they? :)
How is your last day of freedom?
Well you have already been outside once this weekend. It's best not to push your luck ;)
Well not at five in the morning on not much sleep :)
Even he seemed to lose heart in his argument!
Bless. To me the argument is simple:
I. don't. want. to.
Job done :)
G'morning ladies and gents :)
Morning Lukeh, how are ya?
Keep. things. as. they. are. please. :)
Not too bad so far, thanks. I'm hoping at least they'll give me Sundays off for "GP weekends". But apart from that, I've just got to get everything together for tomorrow. :)
That's. how. we. like. it. :P
I'm good thank you, had a nice shower to wake me up and I dreamt I was writing a blog about Toyota's red and white livery which is a bit... bizarre, but all in all, good thanks :D
Like we said last night, mental in a good way...
Looking for me? :)
Good day to you sir! Where's your usual morning posts with F1 Wolf and the Aussies these days? I had nothing to read this morning!
I hope you're not calling me an Aussie!
Absolutely!
Hell no! Your aksunt us so thuck there's no wiy you're anything bat a kuywee! ;)
thats what I like to hear! The biggest insult I get over here is 'you're a kiwi? you don't sound like one!'
Well I certainly don't - but it was so nice to hear you on the panel as I haven't heard a proper kiwi accent for ages!
you have one of the oddest accents ive ever heard. One of the 'only sounds kiwi on every third word' types.
It's a by-product of living in a country where English is not the first language. I was born in the UK and then moved to NZ, where I picked up a light kiwi accent. The problem is that over here in Denmark no-one could understand me so I flattened out my accent. It was a real problem especially when in job interviews...
ahh yes, I have heard that from one my friends from school who also did the fall-in-love-with-a-Dane-and-move-to-Europe thing.
I've always had confidence problems with the way I speak... it was really difficult trying to fit in when every word was mocked - a real confidence killer :(
The fact is that the way I speak can't be helped ... the only thing I can do is try and sound coherent. Funnily enough, Mr & Mrs C both noted in the pub that I sounded different when I was talking to my wife!
It's a cool country you know!
I might visit one day, my friend lives in Vejle. I don't know where that is.
I do! It's a nice little town ... about an hour's drive from Odense (where I live)...
Glad I watched that, I know the difference between the suspensions now, thanks :D
Man, Bank holidays are quiet here. Is the weather nice in the UK today?
Cloudy and cold for me.
Rather overcast here in Wymondham.
Not as nice as the previous two days here.
Am editing Debrief, and Mr C is snoring. Glad we made the most of it on Sat.
Same here in Bristol. Not suprising, it is the UK and bank holiday. All we need know is some rain.
Same here. Saturday was 24 degrees, today the sun has just poke through...
I'm on Asia hours today and tomorrow - am conducting communications training for employees - they need it. Will be back to my regular Euro-hours on Wednesday. :)
Would you mind linking to your article that you write on Thursdays?
Morning. I also have sniffles and a light headache, have done since Saturday night. An early night and long sleep seems to have helped a little. Who put my name on next week's panellists wiki?
And the rain fell here at half 11, sigh.
Apologies, probably my fault as I put the washing out and had the termerity to contemplate finding a cheap bbq from somewhere.....
Will do on Thursday - I haven't even started yet - will catch up tonight and probably Wednesday morning to finish it.
Details on the new GP3 Series which will be on the F1 bill some weekends next year:http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75054I thought it was meant to be growing out of F.Master?
Link didn't work
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75054
Chris Van der Drift already moved to FR World Series powered by Nissan ... but he had a bad weekend (hit his team mate)...
And last week's?
Ah-ha, we have a culprit!
I brought my Sunglasses today - so I take some blame too... :(
For Bahrain? It's over here:
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2009/04/23/bahrain-grand-prix-history-video/
BTW, apparently, it's gonna be 'most-wins' for the championship next year:
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2009/05/04/most-wins-system-confirmed-for-2010/
Cheers ;)
Does anyone here listen to the podcasts from Fastmachines.com?
I do
I have 3 layers on I'm so cold, brrrrrr... gorgeous all weekend, then when you get a mention of Bank Holiday, the weather decides to strop and go away :(
They're an interesting bunch aren't they?
They are very, um, different to what we're used to. :-) I haven't heard the most recent one but their F1 opinions can be a little crazy.. Sometimes they have a guest who does his own podcasts called Live Fast Racing, those are long at 2hrs but are also very good.
Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks they are a little 'offbeat'. Interesting to listen to though...
I HATE the cold.
Especially when you're on a bike and it makes your hands hurt!
Yeah it's interesting to hear their perspective, because they have so much racing in America it means F1 isn't *everything* so they treat it like any other series. I've noticed a lot of North American blogs, podcasts, TV shows etc do that
btw they are on Twitter @FastMachines
Hello all. How are you on this overcast bank holiday?
Relatives have gone, back to normal RG until next bank holiday when I go to York.
Cold. Now going to disappear to do a solid couple of hours of college project..
Saw Kathi's bandwidth:
Mine?
down: 0.75Mb/s
up: 0.5Mb/s
Daaaaang.
When I asked Kathi yesterday I was expecting it to be fast but damn.. that fast?! Daaaaaang totally sums it up :D
Just come back from a trip to the shop and I have the new copy of F1 Racing with me. There's a rather moving article written by Ann Bradshaw, Williams' press officer in 1994, about the events of May 1st 1994.
Stuart C mentioned it the other day...
...so I'm glad you liked it too ;) - I look forward to reading it in three week's time, if at all...
Just looking at the main article of Pitpass in F1R and it has a representation of what a Lola F1 paintjob might be. It's a Williams FW31 in black with red wings and sidepods with the Lola logo on the rear wing, nose and front wing elements.
Also a big feature on Brawn and there's two hilarious pictures of both Jenson and Rubens looking into the camera with "puppy dog" eyes :D
I think I've read that interview every day since I bought the magazine friday, it's quite ridiculous really...
Those pictures are awesome :P
It must be a slow F1 news day if we are live commenting reading F1 Racing ;)
oh. umm, yay ;)
Ross is apparently embarrassed at having a team names after him. :P
Aha, we have some news.
Jenson's getting an upgrade package for Spain, no word on Rubens though.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75052
And Bernie says he's going to protect Ferrari
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75055
My advice - take Damon Hill's advice in F1R and just agree with everything he says. As he put it: "There's no point negotiating, is there? Just agree with him and don't argue".
the rolling stones are a big bunch of plonkers. annoyingly the rules allow them to block the use of stone's loops and samples. so they do.
even more annoyingly, despite years and years of destroying their bodies through substance abuse and then falling out of a tree. they somehow manage to still be around. there is simply no justice.
What amazes me, and I had no idea about this, is that they seriously considered calling the team Tyrrell!
Comment in moderation again. I swear it happens to me at least once a day now. :P
I'm sure I did read about that before, or someone said it here.
I had no idea, going through the interview and seeing that just shocked me. Got me wondering what if...
Bad weeds die hard, so they say...
hehe. i just re-read it, it was a rubbish argument.
the point i was trying to make is that whilst people wishing much success on sidepodcast is mighty lovely. what we have now should be appreciated first.
Isn't one of their latest singles called 'Rough Justice'? :D
I quite like the Stones but they must have so much cash that they could build houses out of money - so I'm disappointed that they choose to operate like that.
A few years ago I heard that the surviving members of the Doors were having a fallout because two of them wanted to be able to make money off their songs being used on adverts, etc. but the other one vetoed it. That seems just as silly!
one of those things i'd have been better off not knowing methinks :(
aww :( im sorry if it's caused an annoyance asking!
It got me thinking though - if you have 75KB per second upload, it's no wonder it buffers when you are skyping too. 75KB doesn't sound much for video streaming...
hehe. is it not enough that the girl is leading the FR championship, she has to go and have the fastest net speeds too?
;)
agreed. nothing we can do about though, so we just do our best.
I take comfort in the fact that finland is quite notorious for it's super duper internet speeds created by superman where as us UKers are notorious for a bit of copper wire and selotape running under our homes to get onto the net :P
That has to be Fibreoptic - but I don't think she lives in a big city so it sounds awesome to me!
I have 1MB down/100KB up btw... seemed OK until yesterday!
Exactly. So when are you going to start learning Finnish? ;)
Off topic, but at the Women's FA Cup final (there's nothing else on TV, OK?) one of the players is on a stretcher with 5 paramedics carrying here and an oxygen mask on her face. From the replay, I'm not sure exactly what happened but she might have done something to her leg.
:( nasty. Eduardo had the same thing happen when he broke his leg last year so it's probably leg related... always nasty to see or hear it happen though.
I think they might have to substitue her as she might be injured?
:D
You don't say.
I know she was injured, I'm just not sure what kind of injury she sustained.
A bad one from the sound of it. I hope she's ok!
The five minutes I go away from the match and I miss something. Which team, that lot or Sunderland?
Sunderland.
Rightio.
Though the Sunderland keeper likes flattening the Arsenal players
Evening all.
Happy Monday to ya ;)
howdy sean. what be new?
Heh, I was actually going to once. I tried downloading a Learn Finnish program but it didn't work so I gave up.
Nothing here.
It's only Monday for another 11mins. ;)
Damn Aussies!
just noticed this comment on drop.io:
"I'm glad my husband's wise cracks have inspired you to write this Christine! You have a very good voice!! Well done! Lucy Smedley x"
...and we've lost christine again :)
NO WAY! :D
Wow. Well done guys!
Is she sad that Smedley is married?
i know, he's married?
i think so.
I am married, too.
FLOORED!
Can I just say that Massa & Smedley are Team 5 Pints of Awesome!
Seriously, I can't think of a nicer pair on the grid than those two! :D
:D
i would've let you go for rob though, i'm understanding like that.
Is he the 'free pass'?
is Rob on "the list" ?
daaaaaaaang. :D
Wow...
Only so you could get a factory tour or something.
:D
The odds of a factory tour is slowly rising... :)
*are slowly rising
:D Oops. Silly me right there... Next thing we know, Massa himself will comment on it!
I'm looking forward to the next race. I want one of the commentators to mention it. That would be great.
Croft, FP1, Friday. I like the chances of it. :)
Legard : "Of course Raikkonen has had his own song made about him after being called Felipe Baby by Rob Smedley'
Brundle : 'Err Jonathan, that was Massa'
I think they will. Or, if the BBC played it as the outro to a race. That would be FANTASTIC.
I've talked about it for a while, but just got the camera out to show you my lovely (and very worn) t-shirt...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/another-fia-fiasco-jpg
Nah, probably won't be an outro. A shoutout itself for the girl (and hopefully, the website too) is our best shot. :)
I don't think they will either, but you can't deny it would be great. ;)
I like it.
I'm gonna ask about weekend working tomorrow see if I can work the Saturdays of race weekends as my one weekend day a week. That leaves Sunday off for the race. All in the name of Sidepodcast, of course. ;)
you guys are crazy. you should maybe wait a while though don't you think? settle in and see how it goes first.
that's brilliant :)
Okay to counter balance, I'm going to York on the weekend of the Monaco GP.
Do you wear it every weekend then ;)
Also let us know what you’re doing if you have a day off, or moan about your day if you don’t. {Original entry}
I've had a day off (not surprising as I haven't had a job for the last three months) and have finally caught up with doing analysis of the 2010 regulations (separate Sporting and Technical entries). To be honest, I don't see any good reason why any team which has read through the regulations properly would sign up to cost regulation.
Lets just say it's been worn alot more in the last 2 years...
So Max says we don't need Ferrari, and Bernie?
Speaking to The Times newspaper, Ecclestone said he won't let Mosley "destroy" Ferrari. - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75055
This could get interesting...
that is unexpected.
good cop-bad cop? or are they back at war?
nice one alia. we shall link to those in tomorrow's daily post too. good stuff.
Bernie is looking at it from a commerical aspect, lose Ferrari lose money.
christ knows. bernie realises how important ferrari are to his bottom line. i assumed the ferrari threat wasn't serious, by the sound of it bernie thinks it might be.
I think its geniune. they both seem to have (and i never thought i'd say this) valid points.
Max is right because F1 dosen't need Ferrari but
Bernie is right that if Ferrari left, from a commercial point of view it would be huuuuuuuuge!
LDM will perform the start at Le Mans... That HAS to mean something. Ironically enough, LDM was the guy who pulled Ferrari OUT of Le Mans in the first place, waaaay back in 1974.
Methinks Bernie knows FOTA is just as good as his FOCA was, maybe even better. Lose Ferrari, you lose half the casual fans (AT LEAST) in one fell swoop.
I dare ask for any saturdays off and I've been in work 18 months! Gotten used to missing qualifying now though... :(
Better than missing the race! :)
Oh without a doubt :)
However....Max has changed his tune....
http://www.crash.net/formula+one/news/60405/1/mosley_ferrari_most_important_team_in_f1.html
And i never saw this the first time round, but found it accidentally....
http://www.crash.net/Formula+One/News/144798/1/ecclestone_vettel_penalty_wrong_and_discourages_fights.html
I miss qualifying semi regularly myself, and I don't even have a job! :(
I'm happy, 'cause my last day at work is on Saturday. That, coupled with my last exam on Friday means Sunday's going to be fun! The parade lap (hopefully), the race, then a debrief and panel to finish off.
Parade lap. Woohoo. I'm going to take it that it has already been talked about so shall celebrate quietly in the corner.
hehe. and not for the first time :)
Anyone else seen this?
http://www.sportinglife.com/formula1/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=formula1/09/05/04/manual_125243.html
When are Bernie & Max NOT at war with each other?
Ah yes and if the teams can't unanimously decide who gets the money Bernie's keeping it. How convenient
Don't ask me - I gave up on those two years ago!
Hmm, well, if Brawn get a say in what is done with the money, I can't see anyone coming to an agreement. How convenient for Bernie...
:D
First effin' parade lap of the year and I might miss it due to mother in law coming round for mothers day brunch :(
Pah! Wifey sees her almost every day! There's only one Spanish grand prix per year!
telling ya, you need to marry someone who enjoys f1. 'cept for alex, cause that would ruin christine's plans.
:D .. no domestics now!
mondays off = daytime podcasts:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/04/f1-debrief-the-fia-people-are-coming/
One of the discussions going around here was Lewis' snub (and McLaren's) of Ron Dennis award last Thursday. I should be open I do not like Ron Dennis, however, I was appalled that Lewis could do this. Even Allan Prost made the effort to attend, why did Lewis and his dad not? The fact that Lewis indicated he would attend the day before but pulled out and refused to even provide a requested tribute to his former team boss is really bad manners. This is especially bad following his withdrawal from the Crown Prince of Bahrain’s function to honour Ron.
No one from McLaren attended either with none of the 10 reserved places occupied even though the guest list suggested they would be attending.
Poor Ron this must have been all very hurtful.
Source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/lewishamilton/5259892/Lewis-Hamilton-snubs-McLaren-ex-mentor-Ron-Dennis.html
yay! :D
thankye :)
Should it not belong to Honda? The bit that is so convenient is...
It must have been. I wonder if team Hamilton blamed RD in some way for the Oz saga?
However, (and I'm not a Ron fan either) it does look to me like Ron fell on his sword to protect the team and ultimately Lewis so it wasn't partcularly kind to snub him in this way.
Wow, I actually feel really bad for Ron there. Bad stuff from lewis and co. :/
somewhere along the line ron dennis decided he was good at managing drivers, i'm not sure where the self belief came from because even senna eventually left the team.
coulthard has regularly spoken out about the man since leaving mclaren, montoya appears to hate him, kimi has done better in the ferrari environment, kovi denies needing to be rebuilt as dennis had claimed, and let's not even mention alonso.
if lewis isn't speaking to ron, i can't pretend to be surprised. it seemed almost inevitable.
yes, ron gave the man his one and only break, he owes him a debt of gratitude lewis likely can never repay. but to me this was always going to happen.
That's pretty bad form by Lewis.
What a boring day at work, I hate it when all you need is to be kept busy to keep you awake.
is it not bank holiday for you either?
I'm off. Goodnight everyone.
see ya sean.
It's a bank holiday for everyone but some of us have to work it
We do get a day in lieu to take when we choose and a little extra in the pocket.
I don't mind that bit, I just wish I could keep my eyes open today
perhaps mclaren (the team) are really distancing themselves from ron in an effort to appear as a new mclaren?
what lewis did though was rather different. saying you'll go even if you won't is no good at all.
to be fair to ron, senna left not because of their relationship, it was because he wanted to win titles - and he couldn't do that in a mclaren-peugeot. that said, ron's only good pals with mika now...
night sean
true enough.
Niight
Don't forget Lauda and Prost. You may be right, Ron does wreck careers!
A sory that starts of with the 'snub' headline at McLaren and ends with Ferrari and budget caps
Pah!
Expected better of The Telegraph
He made Kimi's and Lewis', but even they had to leave McLaren.
Most notably, he wrecked Mansell's career. ;)
he thinks he's a people person, the people disagree :D
It certainly seems that way - or was it a Palace Revolt?
Attending a function does not mean you like the person, Ron was in the business a long time, he largely built the team and it was successful. Would we be sing songs of praise for Lewis if he was driving a Spyker/Force India? Lewis's success has been based on having a very competitive and reliable car.
He did too. Mansell may have been on the way down, but you have to remember he was winning in 1994...
And some talent to get into that car, perhaps?
He won once in 1994, and only after Schumi and Hill took each other out. Even so, Mansell was competitive in 94 and nowhere in 95.
I have never liked Ron or Mclaren that much and it's easy to see why things are instantly better without him...
Talent or not, a lot of people have talent but don't go far without any funding.
Given how poorly McLaren are doing right now, it's all a matter of perspective.
He may only have won one race but he was very racy and competitive that year. We were all shocked at how off the pace he was in '95 :(
also, lewis was never distracted by the need to find funding. we meet five or six up and coming drivers at silverstone just a after xmas, and all of them were concentrating on sorting out financials for 2009 rather than focusing on improving their driving skills further.
the benefit of having someone like ron saying "don't worry, i have your back", during those early years shouldn't be underestimated.
i must've missed something. how did ron ruin mansell's career?
True, but Prost still attended the function. Mika also attended. The really bad bit was to refuse to provide a tribute to Ron! In my books it shows Lewis up as being extremely shallow (as well as being a liar) and the poorest representative of a World Drivers Champion.
The 1995 car was too tight for Mansell - and too uncompetitive for him to do anything about it.
Ron was force feeding him pies?
:D
He didn't need to do it for Nigel. He didn't need to force feed JPM with Big Macs, either. :P
i really wish someone would challenge bernie, after he made such a fuss of kimi being a poor champion. i noticed last week he decided f1 now needs a beckham, presumably because he's not impressed with how is current wdc is shaping up?
I concede some driving talent but its about 80% car and 20% driver. Jenson is the classic example here 3 points last year 3 wins out of 4 this year.
By building him a rubbish car and then telling the whole world he was too fat to sit in it.
that was newey's decision though?
Yeah, cos Bernie's leading by example :)
:D
:D :D
which ron had to approve anyway? if he knew he had a chance to nab mansell, surely he should've told newey to take that into consideration when he designed the car?
He did not like Kimi either and was luke-warm about Fernando - so obviously Michael was his preferred type. Possibly I was a bit harsh with Lewis so lets make it tied poorest representative of a World Champion.
Newsy wasn't at mclaren until 98 though?
ha! :D
i have no idea tbh, i wish my memory was better :(
Not sure what he sees in Michael that he doesn't see with the others? It's not like Michael was a press- or PR-friendly type of guy - far from it.
oh yeaaaaaah! :P
sorry. good point. i shoulda said the designer was in charge of the chassis size, not ron.
my issue with ron is that he appears to do drivers heads in, you can't fault the man if his team make a bit of a lemon. at least not directly.
OT: A Filipina friend of mine agreeing with Mr C's thoughts on the B word. Not that it would probably convince me or Steven Roy any better. But still, nice article I wanna share:
Why I Must Blog, Why We ALL Must Blog
that's ace. cheers for sharing... over to steven :)
Good luck with that. In the meantime, I'm off to bed. My training participants await tomorrow. Good night. :)
G'night buddy
night j.
night!
has anyone seen that the Bahrain BBC Forum has been put on their site? the full version!
Oooh wow!
Tempted to ask - is it geolocked?
Is that the same as was shown online straight after the race?
Didn't he want an outspoken WDC, he has that in Fernando. Mind you this is Bernie, he's probably changed his mind.
Goodness me - just wanna say:
Bernie likes outspoken WDCs that speak about agreeing with Bernie and/or Max. Which may be why he liked Michael... Right, REALLY must go to bed now.
yup

:(
Dang. Thought so. Thanks for checking, though.
I know this is a *cough* GMM story but could it be true?
Link
It's in the regulations the FIA published the other day so I'm sure it's true. Sadly. :(
But with the budget cap subject to change, I'd like to think this is subject to change as well...
Budget cap subject to change, did I miss something?
in all honesty, given the other changes that are happening in f1 next year... i'm just not bothered.
We can only hope, I agree we haven't heard the last of this though.
Do you really think they'll stick to 40m pounds? I sure doubt it. And Bernie mentioned in the Autosport article that they'll still be negotiating certain details...
Bernie says a lot of things and what I think of the budget cap makes no difference as the fans' opinions don't count for much these days
very true. are hopes are currently resting on... ferrrari.
*gulps*
just had a strange shudder through my nervous system there
I just getting a little tired of it all.
Sometimes there's just too much reporting. I suppose we've kinda had this conversation before
Where's Joe's Blog, I think I'm just gonna stick to that and avoid 90% of the links elsewhere :(
[Am tired and grumpy, tomorrow will be a better day]
I'm sure most of us didn't want it to come down to this - but as it turns out, we and Ferrari actually share the same sentiments on the cap. So this may be the best thing for F1's future...
yup. it comes from companies promising 10+ f1 stories every single day.
the simple answer is if we don't like the 2010 regulations at the start of next season, we all vote with our feet and stop watching / paying.
that really is the only true power we have.
good point. it might be a first for me though. sidepod180 :)
But we [here] willl just watch it anyway and bitch to each other
The audience figures will drop and Max will still blame Ron
not necessarily true. if christine and i don't like it, we'll stop watching. why follow something you don't enjoy?
hopefully it won't come that, because f1 can be lots of fun. am not ruling out a 2010 sabbatical until refuelling returns, for example.
would that mean the end of sidepodcast? :(
dunno. haven't given it that much thought.
there's no fun in spending 12 months bitching about rules you don't agree with, but have no power to change.
We're all about the positives.
All right - I'll take that as reassurance. I really think the refuelling ban for 2010 will come good.
Anyway, 3rd time's the charm, even in closing shop for the night. Later. :)
see ya sir :)
Jenson's wrong when he says Red Bull are the top team (sort of):
Super Season Grid Team Average Times (after Bahrain):
1. Brawn GP - 1'31.728
2. Red Bull - 1'31.737 (+0.009)
3. Toyota - 1'31.876 (+0.148)
4. Ferrari - 1'32.090 (+0.362)
5. Williams - 1'32.096 (+0.368)
6. BMW - 1'32.221 (+0.493)
7. McLaren - 1'32.306 (+0.577)
8. Renault - 1'32.323 (+0.595)
9. Toro Rosso - 1'32.905 (+1.177)
10. Force India - 1'33.237 (+1.509)
Brawn are still faster on average. JUST.
ooh, nick's birthday on sunday.
also of note from the man: "I'll be interested to see whether the hard tyres are preferred here, because this compound hasn't worked at all well on the previous race weekends."
Oh yeah. I agreed on that point as well. Thinking racing was going to be dull, dull, dull.
A sabbatical can mean a lot of things. Just hoping they don't go down the Hakkinen route.
just until f1 becomes interesting / exciting / worth discussing again.
as christine said, positive is good. f1 at the moment is great. long may it continue.
That reminds me, look at this I found today
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/2158191.stm
Now just who is that article author? :D
another commentator who should've stuck to writing :)
Just how short are some of those paragraphs! Someone needs to tell him one sentance does not constitute such a thing.
:D
theres something strangely amusing about finding old BBC F1 stuff, for example, look at Jarno's little picture here!
Cute.
looking at the old drivers, Enrique Bernoldi, where is he now?
On Button's profile
And when Renault insisted that they saw greater potential in Trulli
Yeah, suuure
IndyCar with Conquest.
nice one alia. we shall link to those in tomorrow’s daily post too. good stuff. {Comment #246}
Thanks, "me" :)
Button's picture is so strange! He looks like Wurz :D
Ah yes and if the teams can’t unanimously decide who gets the money Bernie’s keeping it. How convenient {Comment #261}
And how against the Concorde Agreement (which while only operational through a clause written into the 1998-2007 Agreement, is still the only thing that allows the FIA to influence the championship at all in the first place).
Good read, thanks!
Should it not belong to Honda? {Comment #272}
No. If a team drops out of F1 for any reason, the money doesn't go to them because it only vests at the end of the year following the one where it is earned.
In theory, the money should be shared equally between all teams which complete 2009 (including a 10% share for Brawn, in the likely event of it reaching Abu Dhabi).
And become a DTM podcast?
After retiring from all things racing for a couple of years. :D
hehehehe!
And they were talking about the Trulli Train phenomenon 7 years ago, they just hadn't named it such!
Budget cap subject to change, did I miss something? {Comment #337}
The FIA has until 31 July to change any and all regulations it wants, in theory. In practise, we've seen them change the regulations six days before the first race of the season not too long ago...
Otherwise, this cap will be in at £40m as specified.
Evening all... Hope everyone's had a nice afternoon :)
Hello Kat
Hold on I wrote that.... Tsk!
the bestest. 'cept for the weather. yourself?
booo!
Interference on the laptop!
We do that ALL the time! I blame the man who wrote the doohickey.
Alex, is there something you're not telling us? ;)
I'll let her know how disappointing it is that it's me ;)
Not Lou?
[Or Steven]
Hahaha :)
the simple answer is if we don’t like the 2010 regulations at the start of next season, we all vote with our feet and stop watching / paying.
that really is the only true power we have. {Comment #346}
Unfortunately, the viewing figure measurements are so skewed and the arguments used for paying Bernie his race fees so closely connected to intangibles such as "awareness", we don't really have those power either.
All we can do is complain and hope someone in power pays attention. Even if they will never admit it :(
Or you?
Or you ;)
Snap RG!
I'm just as clever as Alex. Woo
Live commenting is not my fault, nor the doohickey
My blame is with illnesses that are not hangovers ;)
The picture of Rubens is the best one. :D
Hilarious :D
Oh yeah?
[Ahem, Frentzen]
Afternoon everyone.
I've broken my car. :D
That sounds like bad news to have a smiley after it!
:)
already?
And that's funny, cos?
[Hey, btw]
That's true... I had an illness that wasn't a hangover honest after I met you the first time :)
Me too!
Maybe... it... was... YOU!
:D
Alianora is totally right... Weirdly if we took to the streets and protested holding up part of London then the awareness of F1 would go up and Bernie would get more money not less...
What an allegation!
Took it out for a spirited drive this morning. I've found the limit of the brakes.
Stopped to fill up with petrol *15mpg means you do that a lot* and there was rather a lot of unpleasent smelling smoke coming from the front brakes.
On the way home I found I had next to no brakes at all. Boiled fluid, badly glazed pads and massivly overheated disks - they're discoloured :D
So, uprated big brake kit, braided hoses and racing brake fluid arriving on wednesday ready for fitting on thursday.
Come to think of it, a lot of my friends get that malady
Maybe I am the bringer of the 16hr lurgy
sure. but if we stopped watching, he would annoy us less.
The picture of Sato was a little scary when I first saw it!
He looks like a Pokemon character :)
It took longer than normal. ;)
Would Justin.tv still count as not watching?
I'm sorry but have you seen Heidfeld's hair??
You are totally right too :)
heheheh.
no.
Surely that's a young Noel Edmonds sans beard
Wait a minute, I may have stumbled across F1's next scandal!
I think this picture proves that I'm not a bad influence...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/wineingalex-jpg
I mean who could take against a person who knows how to correctly hold up one's pinky like that ;)
Holding the glass wrong though. I don't drink and even I know it should be held by the base or the stem. ;)
Ah, that's White Wine that shouldn't be warmed by the touch
Red wine is enhanced at body temperature!
Ah that's white wine you're thinking of!
Snap, take 2
snap :)

take 3

okay this is getting us nowhere :)
:D
whilst your here alex. ran into trouble upping the incoming comment count to more than 20. because the doohickey is designed to work well on mobly devices, blocks of 20-30 comment seem to be optimum.
may have to come up with a switch on the page that says "gimmie everything as fast as possible", but at the moment, it's not a quickie fix.
Now imagine if THAT was across different daily threads ;)
:D :D
That'd be a big switch then
It's a good job we took the top commentor count down as well!
True, the quality was in the timing though
Ah... Okay... Interestingly it's exactly right though when mobile I wouldn't want to do that... I only ever want to browse back through the comments on a real pc. On the iPhone I want it to be responsive. So yes... Lets not make masses of work for you...
tis okay. another for the list :)

podcast number #2:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/04/sidepodpanel-holding-out-for-a-timo/
Woo hoo, you guys are on fire today.
Productive Bank Holiday, many thanks
woooow, your like a big podcast making machine!
Just when I was about to comment I found I was unable to get to the keyboard because of Katherine's latest Ravelry project... A snake...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/katsnake-jpg
You can see he's quite interested in the goings on on drop.io!
Holding out for a Timo?
Uh-oh....
lukeh [hearts] spc's editing turnaround today :P
Who do I need to talk to about getting more of these bank holiday things? They are quite useful.
:)
:)
What we need are some SidePodHolidays..
Was listening to the F1 Rejects Australia podcasts this morning... I've fallen quite far behind!
Well done to Christine for quick editing. :)
Whoops. It appears that while ordering the brake kit I've ordered uprated anti roll bars and front and rear strut braces and the poly bushes...
*hides card before spending more...*
But what is it that you say Mr. C about those who say on a knee-jerk reaction that they'll never watch F1 again? Is it not how you are reacting with the 2010 rules?
Methinks Flibster's friend is a little too flexible and he may have to hide his bill in a more secure environment this time
I'm still in trouble about that single...
clearly not. a knee-jerk reaction would've seen me gone already, no?
again, no thought gone into this, but if after a couple of races we're bored stiff and miserable, that would be the time.
I essentially believe that I will watch F1 regardless of the rule changes. Part of the political challenges is what makes it so interesting to me...
Depends how you define the knee and the jerk I suppose....
Well, we know who the jerk is... the one who thought of the no refuelling rule :D
Just been reading the subscriber-only article on the budget cap and there's something in there about the FIA giving Mercedes an expection to supply Brawn with customer engines because each manufacturer can only have 1 customer.
But I thought Merc was exempt from that exception anyway since Force India are partners, not customers. AFAIK, partners get engines for free and customers have to pay (obviously). So in effect, Brawn are their only customers.
*exception
Christine, what's "Numbers"?
Excel for Mac.
Apple's answer to Excel
Technically Excel for Mac is called "Excel" ;)
Yup. I have that too.
If I had thought that way I would have given up in the Schumi/Brawn years when he just drove away, race after race. I still stuck at it, pining for the underdog result. It'll be a very different type of race next year and it might take 3 or 4 races to understand it.
i did give up though. for a period. twice in fact, the first time i think when he was a annoying cheating git at bennetton.
maybe i'm more fickle but f1 has to earn my attention. it's not a given.
I kinda went through that phase when Schumi started dominating all the time. From maybe mid 2001 until 2005, I never really paid attention to F1 as much as I do now. I was more into touring cars, Le Mans and rally. Only when Alonso knocked him off his perch did I tag back onto it.
I get that... I just love the machinations. The politics rev up at a disproportionate rate to the quality of the racing usually. This year is a first where the racing has been interesting but the politics has also been strong.
However, that probably means that Brawn is going to run away with the title. The guys complaining are closer to the situation, the press slant it differently... but that's because they have to find something interesting to talk about.
I lost interest for a bit during that time. I wasn't in 'full nerd mode' as I call it, as I had been before and have returned to since. Still watched in the hope this would be the race it all changed.. I'd have hated to have missed the race he was trounced.
hehe. good point.
in this case it's different though. i'm not avoiding a driver, i'm avoiding mediocre racing and that's easy to wander back into once the regs get reverted.
Yep this was the period I got interested in CART, BTCC and MotoGP a lot more. I had a very passing interest before - I had a bit more time to develop those interests because I couldn't be bothered with the periphary of F1, just the core of qual+race.
I'm surprised anyone came through the mid-90's, TBH...
Bassano...
I hope you have a face mask...
"The independent school in Dulwich, south east London is the fourth to close due to swine flu"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8032697.stm
I suppose so. I just find it odd that you'd even consider walking away without at least a half season of analysis behind it.
Indeed it is. Numbers is the Apple equivalent to Excel.
It's great :)
Further to Flibster's Car News, an update from my side:
I'll be getting a car tomorrow night to replace the dying Punto! I'm still hoping they'll repair that so I can flog it for money..
Dad and I were looking on eBay and he put a couple of bids on to test the reserves, expecting the other bidders to keep going... and they didn't! So he's won 2 cars. An Astra and a Focus. Will collect Astra tomorrow night and Focus on Fri or Sat.
The song has been sung:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/tell-me-fibs-mp3
Why? I don't know, don't know, why!
Go for the focus if it's in good condition. Much better to drive.
And I should add that while this was inspired by Christine, it pales into insignificance with her marvellous effort ;)
Ta, I was wondering about that.
Focus is a 2002 and Astra is a 2000 but had a new engine in 2005. Focus looks to be in a better condition. Dad convinced me to try a diesel for economy reasons, so they both are, and both have high mileage.. Tempted to test them for a bit then flog one or both.
Uh, obviously will flog one because I'm not keeping two for no reason, don't know why I wrote that..
My uncle and family have astra's (previous shape) and they seem OK...
Sidepodsilence?
Adjusting the 'next week' wiki..
I'm contemplating another song - a version of "Jesus He Knows Me" all about Hamilton.
Now that my second choice song for Timo, now has been used as the title of the panel, might get something else.
After YMCA of course.
Mr/Mrs C - can you enlighten me on the details of your netbook/3G kit?
A friend wants some advice on something to take away with her in the summer.
Can I just argh!! at you all..
For the last few days (it seems like months!!) I have had the tune of santa baby going through my brain on a total ear worm... on the odd occasion that it has gone away its been replaced by something else that someone has done a 'song' to...
I even resorted to Pugwash,... it didn't work!
Mee too! I usually try a verse of the lonley goatherd from the Sound of Music :D
OMG my spelling is getting worse.. now I can't even spell me! .. what does this internet do to you?
Here's a sample of the lyrics I've got for my Genesis Hamilton cover, "Jesus is my Dad":
I believe in my familyCos I got my little bro beside meAnd of course there's my girlfriendCalled Nicole Shirt...sing..thingy...
:D
Sounds good so far Scott!
*points at mention of... THAT WOMAN!*
:D :D
Yup!
*and* the result of the day is that I have also discovered that pritt stick doesn't work on minibooks anymore (uber annoying!), that *someone* broke a 6.5mm needle (and its one that can't easily be replaced either, being 'vintage' and all that), and that *someone* has taken and used the last piece of black bonded fibre *and* black tissue paper that I need to finish something off that should be in the post tomorrow am, *and* that I still have to get the printer to work so I can print off some forms....
And the lonely goatherd hasn't gotten rid of santa baby.
Although I'm wondering if there is a murray walker commentary somewhere that might do it???
Have you heard mine yet?
Brilliant line :)
Yeah, it's good :D
What about engine noises? Will that work?
Oops, I did listen to it earlier but I thought I commented? PES kinda stole my attention frustratingly...
Looking through the commented I obviously didn't sorry about that. It's very good! :D
Must have missed it, is it on drop.io?
No wher is it Gavin?
I should stop commenting and just watch, argh my spelling is getting even worse
Yes, I drop.io'd it earlier
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/tell-me-fibs-mp3
I need an instrumental of Jesus he knows me, and I can't find one!
think there is one, or at least a long enough bit of one (instrumental break style ) on one of the genesis albums.... Might be one of the orchestral offshoots?
I looked for a MIDI file and used iTunes to make an mp3 out of it...
http://www.karaoke-version.com/mp3-backingtrack/genesis/jesus-he-knows-me.html
£1.50 though.
Gavin I have tears in my eyes laughing, that's absolutely brilliant :D
Thanks - TBH I can't sing to save my life and the MIDI backing track just makes it worse! :)
I've got an insult about Fernando in my song too :D
Just remember, its in the lyrics, not the singing ;)
Right, got the lyrics :D
:p
more big piccy goodness:
http://www.f1minute.com/category/f1-big-picture/
So is Alex away for weeks from today?
I've finished the song, but I don't know how to save it as an .mp3. I'm using Audacity. Any help?
Plus there's MetaData on this track?
I think you need an external encoder. Under the file menu you should be able to export as MP3
There's an option to export multiple and that lets me save as an mp3. I'm just a bit concerned about this MetaData.
What's it recorded in?
I got the backing track from that Karaoke Version site, opened it in Audacity and recorded my lyrics on top of it. But there's this MetaData with all this stuff about artist and song name and everything.
Did you record your voice as a separate track and then mix it down?
the Metadata should be removeable from the resulting mp3 file using mp3tag:
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html
Removing it's not a bad thing is it?
Yeah, my voice is a seperate track.
Of course not ;)
Cos I don't wanna get into no legal stuff because of it! :P
I dunno, I'm a little too concerned about it. I might just leave the backing track out and export the vocals. If someone wants to put them onto a track, then you can if you want.
I'll have to re-record the vocals because even though i deleted the audio track, it still came up with the metadata thing. So I just closed it. I don't want to risk anything :)
But if you want, I can post the lyrics up? :)
I'm sure you'll be fine, Scott - it's not like you're intending to sell it.
It'll be fine Scott, you're not selling it on.
Sorry, Doohickey froze on me.
he's said he'll be around for a parade lap.
f1minute for today:
http://www.f1minute.com/2009/05/04/04-may-09-bernie-sides-with-ferrari-rather-than-max/
and with that, i'll bid y'all an early goodnight.
Here's the lyrics ;)

Weirdly if we took to the streets and protested holding up part of London then the awareness of F1 would go up and Bernie would get more money not less… {Comment #405}
True. So we're looking at complaining loudly enough for someone in power to steal our ideas but quietly enough that we do not generate any publicity outside the circle of those already watching F1.
This could be tricky.
Night Mr. C :)
Did I hear the words early, goodnight and me in the same comment?
Night sir
Gosh. Ah well, time to have another interesting conversation then :)
sure. but if we stopped watching, he would annoy us less. {Comment #409}
He would annoy me less, but Gordon Brown et al would annoy me more. For some reason, I get the impression that if I wasn't observing F1 this closely, I'd be analysing real politics - and Gordon Brown annoys me enough when I'm actively avoiding what he has to say.
meanie!
Heheheh, nice! :D
Nothing new here, I can assure you!
He's supposed to be lugging the printer downstairs....
Indeed it is. Now I want to hear the mp3!
Ooooh. Just noticed that it's Star Wars day...
Hmm, what if I put both into windows movie maker and made just a blank video instead? That would work!
So, my housemate at uni has made it clear that I'm not wanted in the house at the mo. It's her birthday party today, but she didn't tell me. so, with me effectively kicked out of the house for the time being, I'm in the pub on my own. What's been happening tonight?
Can you not just hide in your room? You pay to live there too!!
Aww.. that sucks.
Come and embrace our warm sidepodcast welcoming :D
Yeah, but I was planning to go out with some friends of mine. Trouble is, they are friends of hers. As it's a uni party, they're guarenteed to end up at a club, so I'm crashing the party there instead!
Just been reading the subscriber-only article on the budget cap and there’s something in there about the FIA giving Mercedes an expection to supply Brawn with customer engines because each manufacturer can only have 1 customer.
But I thought Merc was exempt from that exception anyway since Force India are partners, not customers. AFAIK, partners get engines for free and customers have to pay (obviously). So in effect, Brawn are their only customers. {Comment #456}
No such exception exists - the rule is that a supplier can supply a maximum of 4 cars. Mercedes got allowed an exception because Ferrari were allowed one for 2007 and 2008 for no obvious reason and the alternative was to allow Ferrari to supply 8 cars while banning anyone else from having more than 4.
I’m surprised anyone came through the mid-90’s, TBH… {Comment #470}
I think it helped that I supported Damon Hill and, later on, Jordan. It also helped that I was learning a lot about F1 during that time. That said, I thought the racing was pretty exciting - whether through its own merit or lack of F1 viewing experience I do not know.
That's no moon....
OK, what I'm doing is making a blank video with the backing track and then putting my vocals on top of it. ;)
not a bad idea - if you want you can send me the files and I'll mix them in ~Garageband
Which is better, blogger or Wordpress?
Both are good, blogger if you wanna get up straight away without hassle, wordpress for some good quality ones.
thanks, i'll keep that in mind. I'm trying the video route to see how it works. :)
Actually, i found it'll take too long. Where can I send them to you? :)
'Parantly there is a feature on Jenson Button on Inside Sport at 22:45
So Paul O'Grady's plea worked then! :D
*comes out from lurching/doing textiles* Really?!
haha, lurching :D
How big are they? If not too large then email me - taylor dot andy at me dot com. Otherwise you can upload to a file sharing site (a legit one) and email me the link
Unless I'm losing my hearing. Which could actually be a possibility
one day i'll overcome my bad spelling/ typos... until then i shall laugh with you :D
Is that researching Robert Kubica online?
I would like quality I guess...
Andy - you should have an e-mail now. Have fun! :D
Aww this is gonna be awesome, you'll all love it :D
I better... ;)
May the Fourth be with you. ;)
How's it coming along, Andy? :)
Thats the third time i've heard that today.....!!!! :@
Give him a chance.. sorry, I made him bring the stuff downstairs for me first...
He's just fired up garage band and plugged in the headphones :-)
It's Star Wars day. :D
IT'S TRUE! JENSON IS ON INSIDE SPORT! :D
That's OK :)
Inside Sport on BBC1 now. :)
Sorry, you didn't believe me? ;)
Why won;t my TV come onnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Because I need to plug it innnnnnn...
Jenson feature on now! :D
Jenson feature is starting... quick lukeh!!!
:D
:D
And on that note, I say ciao, see ya tomorrow.
D'OH!
See ya RG
what a strange set of pundits to talk about F1. I realise that the show is for al sports but it's a little strange hearing two non F1 guys talk F1
Mansell couldn't fit in the car. Senna left because McLaren could not build a competitive car and nothing to do with his relationship with Ron.
"Jenson's obviously a very talented driver" Well YES! :P
So they have people who know nothing about F1 talking about it?
"In motor racing, having a good car, I think, is a massive advantage..."
Now they're just talking about cricket...
Please hold, your song is important to us.
*bowls out Piquet*
Howwzaaattt!!!
Senna always wanted to be in the best car, mainly due to the fact he always had this obsession with winning at all costs. McLaren couldn't give it to him and Williams had pretty much built the most technologically advanced F1 car ever. Really it was a no-brainer.
One wonders if Schumacher had still won the title, if Senna would have started pining for a seat at Benetton.
Heeeeeeee's outta there! :D
"100/1 to win in January... now evens favourite to win championship."
How long I've waited to hear that... :D
Sounds good, doesn't it? :D
He was too fat to get in it. That wasn't Ron's fault
that's not what people said last year. *rolls eyes*
We all have to start somewhere :-)
:D :D
Imagine, if there was such a thing as fixed odds where bets were placed before the first race and then were fixed and never changed throughout the whole season, whoever put money on Jenson would be laughing all the way to the bank!
You don't want to know what settings he's playing with though...
Do you mind if you end up sounding like bill and ben?
He was in a Ferrari and by the time he won the Ferrari fans liked him enough to part with their cash
We all know why that was though ;)
Honda 07 and 08 = crap.
Erm, not really... :D
As in no, i don't want to sound like them!
Very interesting. Carry on. Nothing to see here
You don't half sound like Lewis at the end though... are you sure you aren't from Stevenage?
Hehehehe, I'm from Peterborough originally to be honest :P
My local town...
I'm around 2 miles away from the dump..err place..
Just like the stuff that was written about him...
that's not the point. the quality of the driver should NOT be judged on the car! it just bugs me soooo much.
sorry i sound a bit grumpy tonight. i'm not really that grumpy it's just i've just finished a textile piece and it looks characteristically plain, uncomplicated and a bit dull... :(
Aww, I'm sure it's fine...
Least it's done, right? :D
Bless.
Think Shaker :-) At least tell your teacher that that was your 'influence'....
it's just one piece... many more to go :s
eek :(
Even JYS says it's the right combination of driver and car.
you know the best bit about AS tech right?
A2 tech, you have to do it all again next year....
OK, just about to save this. I think it sounds OK, no squeaky voice effects have been added.
Shhhhh!! Its mean to remind her of that at this point in the year!!
Lou - what are you making?
Cool :)
It's a shame so few people could notice how well he was driving in 07...
lol i've been doing textiles for years :P i know this already ;) just wish it was photography really....
Well it was because he was a crap driver of course who had blown his career. Now that lewis guy, wow!!
/britishsensationalistmedia
I feel dirty and rotten after that comment, no matter how sarcastic it's supposed to be.
atm am doing various studies on cubism and preparing for my exam which is on thurs and friday.
I've had to do mine this year and it was hell.on.earth, so just sharing the technology related love...
RIght - Here's Scott's song, hope you like what I've done with it.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/jesusismydad-mp3
lol i'm doing fine art textiles... not quiet technology based... but if it's anything like the photography A2 i had to give up ( :( - still kinda sad about that) it will sure be.... interesting
It's true...
Ooooh, Ask the Expert on f1.com with none other than that lovable Brazilian fella Rubens :D
http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2009/5/9300.html
textiles is technology at my school...so from where im sitting...it is ;)
even though its not...hmpf
Oh no... what happened?
You really should spend some time on Ravelry though (not that I'm trying to tempt you but...)
Ooooh Jenson did better than Rubens :P
Been digging the old kit cupboard looking for a keyboard with a PS2 connector. I appear to have found my mixer and effects pedals from my Technology A-levels. :D
May have to get them working again - sadly I left the batteries in many years ago and they have leaked all over the circuit boards and cabling... not pleasent at all.
LMAO! :D I sound bad!
Heh, that was awesome. Good stuff Scott. :)
I hate being around talented people :-(
I thought Scott sounded fine, although the timings are a little out. I did what I could to adjust, but without a lot of editing that's as good as you'll get.
I think it sounds brilliant, well done Scott
i was doing 4 AS levels (ICT - heavy coursework, textiles - heavy coursework, psychology - lots of essays, and history - lots of essays) as well as my photography A2 out side of school which obviously was very heavy on coursework, and i simply ran out of time and motivation. everything suffered, and i just got so so stressed. I had many meetings with teachers at school and my photography teacher and we decided it was best to not complete the A Level as i wouldn't have got a very good grade in either that or my textiles. and now i can't complete the ALevel because all the courses have changed as of next year. so i continue to battle on with textiles just in case i want to get into an art college or do photography at uni. fun times.
Andy how did you manage to remove the lyrics from the music? RG and I are thinking of a combined effort
i know it was the right decision. it's just some times, like tonight it kinda gets to me. ah well. at least i'm healthy and happy now, which is something i wasn't when i was stressed. :)
I didn't - Scott purchased the Karaoke version which I combined with his vocal track
in the end it seems like you had to do it to stop it affecing you in other areas of your education, and im sure you'll succeed and go onto bigger things :) plus your friends, family and everyone here will support you 100% of the way! :D
Which board was the A2 with? Not all of them have changed (or changed that much)... plus the C&G photography is very similar so you could look to keep everything to do that in the future :-)
ah, thanks
it was AQA i think. my teacher rang the board to see if i could complete it next year but they said no. it's not impossible for me to do photography at uni now so that's alright. it's just a little annoying i couldn't complete it i suppose.
i think i'm just a bit tired tonight, i'll be fine in the morning :)
Jackie - what's the song you want to use?
The Bonnie Tyler I need a hero
There is
Good oh!
If you are looking at photography etc then most places will want you to have done a foundation course anyway, and you can get lots of lovely stuff done then and play lots and lots and lots (try and choose an art collegefoundation with a music/theatre dept. cos then you can include the lighting etc as part of the foundation.... ah, fun times :-) )
:D
Well, I must sleep now ahead of my first day at my new job. Thanks andy for the editing and i hope you guys like the song and find it funny :D
Night all :)
Oh yeah, good luck tomorrow. I hope you enjoy it.
Does it have to be that version? I think i have the ones from Shrek 2
Good luck with your job scott, I'm sure you'll do fan-daby-dozie. :D
yeah i've been looking at foundation courses... i can? omg that may be the best news i've heard all day! (i love doing the lighting etc for the school performances)
It's just that background music I didn't know there was another version
night, and good luck for tomorrow!
Yep, Jennifer Saunders as fairy godmother :)
Jennifer Saunders as the Fairy godmother singing it... its ab fab!
It will be funny, I have no idea how to go about recording it either .. ah well, a bit of a steep learning curve methinks
Night Scott! Good luck :) You'll do great
Time for some film watching in bed. King Kong tonight. Original 1933 black and white version. :D
Night all.
night Flibster
g'night.
