Friday is here at last and we can start talking about the upcoming weekend. It's been a hectic week, and testing gets underway again next week, so we need a chance to rest! But, there's still Friday to get through, and to help us along, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- We've been talking about our calendar a lot recently, and although we've made it as easy as possible to subscribe to it, we're still uncovering all the options. Kathi spent some time working out how to get the calendar working with Mozilla Thunderbird/Sunbird, and wrote an excellent wiki page of instructions. If you have any other tips to add, please get them in there, or else follow Kathi's great words.
- Journeyer's Thursday Thoughts question created a great response in the comments, and we had a guest post from Nathan running quite objectively through the options. My team was a bit less conventional, but that probably goes without saying.
- We have finally found out what Nick Heidfeld has planned for the upcoming season, and although being a test driver for the Schumacher team can't be what he was hoping for, it's good that he's still on the grid in some capacity. Have your say over on the breakout thread.
That'll do for now. Let us know what you're up to today and over the next couple of days as well, and I will see you in the comments.
Morning, folks. :D
morning ;-)
(I should not believe on the black sky outside?)
If it's past midnight there, it's already morning. :D
Hey guille.
Hello
kind of related to F1 through Newey: is anybody going to follow America's Cup races next week?
Didn't know it was on. Who is in it this time?
not yet. 21:16, and I should be thinking on my dinner... :P
If I'm not mistaken, Alinghi and Oracle BMW.
guille, is that right?
Alinghi the defender, BMW Oracle the challenger. In massive 90 foot multihulls...
I'd LOVE to follow it. Aren't they racing in the Middle East this time? Is it Dubai or Abu Dhabi? I watched it live last time out, and it's awesome to watch. :D
it's valencia again.
Oh, so those Middle East talks fell through, eh?
The Valencia marina is good for America's Cup races... just not F1 races.
first race start 10:06 local time on Monday (talking about strange starting times...)
Ahhh Fudge. I'm gonna miss it live. :(
Are NASA organising? 10:06?
more or less, a legal thing. they can't race on the south hemisphere in february, and they need to race before winter to comply with a previous ruling of the court. it was a big legal battle since the end of the last cup, and it hasn't ended yet. F1 politics is kindergarten compared to this...
well, the actual warning signal is at 10:00. 6 minutes later they can cross the start line, but they can fight those minutes for the best position to start
this racing before winter was part of the original america's cup charter, right? when they defended off home soil, and all the teams were still in the northern hemisphere?
I don't know much but I've heard from a man at work who's into sailing as much as I'm into motorsport, that essentially there was a bit argument and then a ruling that they can race what they like, so they are going all-out...
Sounds very intriguing, that...
it's supposedly being broadcasted live, for free, on the internet, in HD (take note bernie...)
won't believe it til i see it. and that's assuming it stays up, too...
I love watching all the moves before the start of a race
Do you have a link?
Something like a disagreement about what they could race, and after much arguing the judge (or whatever) decreed the original rules just said "a boat".
Heh. So the gloves are off. It'll be very interesting to see what they come up with.
in short: normally you have a challenger (several actually) that put a challenge to the defender. they agree on the terms of the Cup (yacht sizes, place, format of the races). this time it was a whole legal mess, with two big egos involved, so they had to revert to the original 'regulations' that date back to 1850. One of the things it says is that you have to race from the end of winter to the beginning of summer, according to the hemisphere you race in. the other is that there is a maximum time between the challenge and the races. and the last is that boats should be less than 90 feet at the water line.
everything can be overruled if the two teams agree, but the owners don't want to agree on anything. so he we are...
www.americascup.com has the official feed, but I guess that it will be replicated on the teams' pages also
reverting back to an 1850 charter? that's... appalling.
Alinghi has come out with a 90 feet catamaran, allegedly with a 1,000 square meters main sail.
BMW-Oraclew with a 90 feet trimaran, with a 68 meters high 'wing-sail' (apparently it doubles the size of a Jumbo wing).
And both are really amazing to see when they lift one of the sides from the water... Figures are around 30 knots of real speed with 15 knots of wind...
I think this is going to be fun
Mosley vs. Briatore is kindergarten, I tell you. The owners of the two teams were publicly fighting (in words) for the last year and a half. And not some gentle pushes, really hard words and eternal legal battles. to revert back to the 1850 rules was the only way 'forward'
I hope so. but if one of the boats results significantly faster than the other, it won't be very appealing
At least it will end fast and they can go back to the America's Cup format of lasts editions. it mirrors F1 in many aspects, not only in being the pinnacle of technology in its area (actually, I should say F1 mirrors America's Cup, as it's 100 years younger... ;-) ).
hehehe okay i've emailed Emily Davenport and now i'm off to bed but i'm so excited it may be difficult to sleep. night all! xx
night lou
Night Lou.
Remember to hassle the parents as soon as they wake
That's.... big
you call her by her whole name? hehehe. night lou. :)
i have written myself a note :)

Good night
Wow that was a quiet night!
Morning everyone :)
Good evening. I just got home.
I just started work... It's a funny old world.
Hello Dan and Alex.
Howdy!
Hmmm. One of the established teams in a bit of trouble for not submitting paperwork on time:
Companies House threatens to dissolve Vijay Mallya's Force India team
FTA:
They originally had until 25th January to file. They failed to do so, but asked for an extension. This was granted, and the final deadline is 25th February.
If the company gets dissolved, that pretty much means FIF1 is kicked out of F1 (the company having been the signatory to the Concorde).
Morning :)
I wonder what has happened top his Ferrari debt ...
Hey Gavin. How's your Friday?
Oh dear. I should hope this is only a threat and that they file on time. I wonder how much Vijay is in debt for?
All but gone now, I'd assume, when Ferrari got Fisi's services.
Very good sir! How was yours?
One hopes so at least...
From what I understand, there is no money owed, just the paperwork.
Good so far. No work, so just bumming around. :D
Sorta #MFC
You know how football has a transfer deadline? Well Sunderland almost missed signing a player because the fax machines broke and they couldn't send out the request in time.
They had to get an engineer in to prove that this was the case so the Premier League could give them a special dispensation to sign the player.
By Fax! Who still uses faxes?
You've GOT to be kidding.
As Christine told me before, no change here... :D
#mfc
Apple vs. Amazon: The Great E-book War Has Already Begun
FTA:
My question is: Is it fair for Amazon to do this?
When a company is late filing the reason is usually a nasty hole in the accounts that needs plugging.
CNET's Molly Wood has a fantastic Molly-Rant about this: http://news.cnet.com/8301-31322_3-10438385-256.html
So glad she's back doing BOL fulltime now :D
Yikes. Could that be... the Ferrari debt?
Agreed. That's why in my old job, one of the clauses for a company holding a permit was that their paperwork filed to the companies office was all in order...
Didn't Simon Gillett have the same problem?
I think so, but it never got to the point that DVL was actually dissolved.
#mfc
State of the Internet 2010
I loooove pretty graphs and graphics. :D
By the way Alia, I look forward to your opinion on this ;)
Oooh so do I - thanks J :D
No problem-o. ;)
Me too! :D
It's not fair...
Old model:
Author -> Publisher -> Distributor -> Bookshop -> Customer
Amazon model (current):
Author -> Publisher -> Amazon -> Customer
iBooks model (proposed):
Author -> Publisher -> iBooks -> Customer
Amazon have a new compensation scheme which basically offers the same rate as Apple but does this:
Author -> Amazon -> Customer
Publishers are not too keen on this. You have to sign an exclusive deal with Amazon to get it (eg. don't sell to Apple). It is the only way Amazon can afford to sell the books they say.
How can Apple afford to undercut Amazon so much? Apple does not make any money from sales in the iTunes Store or AppStore so the guess is that they are doing the same with the iBookstore.
Apple sells books without making money to sell iPads.
Amazon sells kindles without making money to sell books.
That's where the difference comes from. And it means we'll see quite a bit of upheaval while this sorts itself out.
Very interesting explanation, Alex. Thanks for that.
It'll be intriguing to see whose business model wins out.
today is not a good day for Gates in the Life of Amy. The mechanism in the lock on my front gate fell out last night so I cannot secure my courtyard. Ill cry if someone nicks my bbq. Then I headed out to the back gate of my complex because the mail box is there. But someone has jammed that lock past where its meant to go so the gate cant be opened. So I have to go out the front entrance and walk right around the block to get the mail. Boo gates, why do you hate me
Just need to buy a new lock, and it'll be sorted. ;)
bad luck amy. hi peoples, how be we?
Send the bill for the gates to the richest man in the world.
goodness. :P
if amazon put prices up i just will stop buying. The archaic regional restrictions already suck. Case in point, I wanted to read Open by Andre Agassi. I wanted to read it on my Kindle. I was prepared to pay to fo this. The book is on the Kindle store but not for Australian customers. So I downloaded a pdf from a torrent site and put that on my kindle instead. Amazon/publishers, stop not letting me give you money!
Experience shows it tends to be the disinterested party (eg. Apple in this case)
The reason that Amazon got the distribution businessness was that they worked out a way of being cheaper to the seller and offering no difference to their experience because they had innovated (no shops).
Apple are essentially doing the same thing (no physical books).
i cant buy a new lock, the key is some sort of magic one that opens lots of doors in this complex so i have to wait for my stupid landlord to sort it out :(
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/04/thoughts-with-a-glass-of-wine/
have we discussed the mole update in this post? ;)
Oh. Boo.
Maybe you should say to him, "if the barbecue goes then you're paying for it".
ps. Amy if I sign up for the Amazon deal you mentioned the other day at the moment it locks me in to exclusively publish my book electronically with Amazon... which is a bit :(
oh :( there are 4 kindles in my office at work now. I am such an inspiration.
hehehe. Amy is a Technology Evangelist now, it seems. :D
For Amy and Kathi:
eBay auctions for a driving lesson with Mika Hakkinen
Just read Joe's post. Made me chuckle!
Charity auctions can get scary! When they announced they were selling raquets from the Australian Open I figured they would all be far too expensive for me but Rogers sold for $28,000 which goes well beyond 'far too expensive' :D
The bidding is for 10 days, it seems. Very little bidding, as of yet...
http://twitter.com/The_Real_JB
Jenson still follows OfficialMGP, apparently... :D
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/05/a-silly-story/
on that Force India story
Duly commented. Thanks, Wolf. ;)
That is the last gasp of stupid on Amazon's part!
I think its more the publishers fault but even so, grrr. It's a really, really good book though so when I can finally buy it legally I will :D
I lived in an apartment block that doubled as a hotel type place, which meant the cleaners had a master key. One summer evening Mrs. Goat and I were chilling out in our undies after work (as one does) when two little chinese people walked in. We said hello and asked them how they were, and they walked out embarrassed!
We rang the landlord to complain (it was a privately-owned apartment, not part of the hotel you see) and got her to change the locks ;)
After having a go at Amazon earlier this will be all about the publishers.
Different companies own the rights in different areas.
Is it? Apart from the shocking parts?
I became a tennis fan quite towards the end of his career so I missed a lot of what happened early on. I had no idea most of what happened to him had happened. It's the third tennis autobiography I have read recently and its been the most interesting by far. I want to read the Serena Williams one next but thats not available to Australia on Kindle yet either.
For some big authors different companies own the rights to the hardback from the paperback so there is a lot of debate about which one of them gets to publish the electronic version.
there was outrage that Dan Brown and Stephen King books were not available to Australia but I noticed a few weeks ago that they are now, so it's nice to know that eventually these things seem to get sorted out.
now also Autosport picked up the Valles for USF1 story:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81287
i'm now catching up with spc comments on joe's site...
:)
agreed. but the winners are:
- authors
- consumers
bring it on.
Morning all. Not quite Thursday but an excellent post: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/02/05/thursday-thoughts-lorenzos-ideal-team/
blimey, popular question this week!
Absolutely... There was a huge danger of Amazon becoming a giant monopoly. And once that happened prices would not stay low.
Saw a doco on the Williams sisters once. That will be a good book!
is it me or the LG ?
LG #f1 Survey fail after 10 mins answering stuck at 96.88% complete. Can't convince the survey that 1
pluggety plug.
http://www.fantasywrc.com
Hastily constructed with thoughtless rules and scoring. You never know - it might work?
Wooohoo!
Can I point out that there seem to be a lot of Danes in the WRC this year?
Anyone who is in the Slough area (or can get to it) on Sunday, you are invited to F1 Karting for...Karting....
We've booked 10 spaces but are a bit short on numbers, so if anyones interested then please let me know!
Morning all.
The Telegraph story is a funny thing (and not because of the curious synchronicity – I was doing my first Companies House return this morning before I heard about this kerfuffle). The authors of it have links to Bernie that I’ve never quite been able to fathom.
No surprise to find Joe coming out against the notion; he doesn’t rate the authors.
Speaking of Joseph, a comment appeared on quite an old entry on my site yesterday – from the proprietor of F1 update or whatever it’s called.
http://www.stuartcodling.com/2009/12/better-coverag
Unbelievable that he reckons AUTOSPORT are as bad as GMM ... at least they have people in the paddock!!!!
My favourite bit of that is the big long ranty moan and then "Interesting site, by the way. I shall read more." love it
It's like saying "With all due respect..." before slagging someone off!
That is right (sort of). Companies House stuff is a reporting issue. You have to submit your accounts (they do check to make sure the sums add up) and report if any directors have lost or joined. You have to pay for the privilege of doing this - £30 if you file on paper, £15 if you do it online.
So, since I don't have to file accounts until next year, this morning I paid £15 to tell them that nothing has changed. Bah!
I was going to write a more full response, going back through Joe’s site and his to demonstrate that what he described as a ‘load of b—s’ was in fact a fair and accurate summary of what had been said and done. After a while I realised he was one of those people who will post a comment and then almost immediately start backtracking – you know, the old “I never said that.” So I decided not to bother getting into an argument.
:D it's a good question, no? ;)
Good choice. GMM arguments are always long and bitter!
but the authors have links to Bernie? Not completely flim-flam then, I guess?
We know that Bernie always likes to kick up a stink ... remember his comments at WROOM that he thought the new teams would fail...
That I don’t know, and I would advise against drawing firm conclusions. They have occasionally been a route through which Bernie has made information known. That doesn’t automatically mean that in this case the story is true, or that it has come from Princes Gate. The authors do spend a lot of time digging through accounts to come up with stories like this. There are people who believe the stories they write and people who don’t.
By Christian Sylt and Caroline Reid
neither seems able to write without the other. does one do the consonants and the other the vowels?
yay. i need to think up a new teamname...
That's what I got stuck on!
fact.
have we mentioned you need a blog?
:)
Hah!
http://twitter.com/redbullf1spy/statuses/8672300854
No mention of Ken Block etc? Or are the drivers just those competing in the full season, in which case, Raikkonen and Sordo won't be either, will they?
A plug for a post about fruit: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/02/05/new-food-resolution-1-the-sharon-fruit/
I just stuck in all Class A drivers from the Swedish entry list. I guess I'll need to review drivers before each event once the official entry lists are published.
Sounds disgusting! You're going to try and choose something more appetising next time?
That is the idea, yes.
I have commented
So have I!
Thanking you both. I do get emails telling me though. :)
Yeah... see it's a balance thing innit? I don't want you to think I've ignored your comment. So I might write something in reply here, but I may as well write it as a comment there, but then you get ignored here.
What's a boy to do?
smartarse ;)
good question. if you come up with any answers, leave a comment.
Isn't a plug to point you in the direction of something, and therefore doesn't really need commenting on here?
shhh! Don't mention that Christine commented to tell me that she'd sent me an e-mail the other day. I got an e-mail about that too ;) joke joke joke abort abort. shh!
#confidential
Hehe!
Yeah you're probably right, and now we've moved it down out of the way so nobody else can see it... ooops.
I am mega nervous... about to head off to a school to meet with the headteacher and it could make or break the work for my dissertation depending on how well our interview goes... there is a Greggs right next to the school (yes, another one) so there may be comfort eating afterwards... anyways, wish me luck!
Technically, I have only started plugging my personal stuff because Mr C said that was the only way he was going to read it. Apparently RSS is so last decade.
Good luck! Comfort eating or celebration eating, it's win-win.
Good Gregs!!! I mean Good Luck!
I don't put each post here because it would be madness. But I do do twitter.
i've only seen you plug one post since the weekend?
RSS is only good as a catch all for your favourite blogs...
on twitter that is.
How do you mean it's only good for that? That's what it does, isn't it?
Because when I add News Sites RSS Feeds, they basically swamp my reader until I have to slash and burn through them. It's best to visit the news websites say once a day and then use the RSS Reader to check when your favourite blogs have been updated...
Ah, I'm with you. The MFC thing.
good point... I... um... I mentioned the site when it moved... that was yesterday... But you're right I forgot to mention my article about Italian Restaurants, my post asking what your favourite thing about one of your appliances is and my post about history repeating.
I am a man who forgets things I think that is the only explanation I have.
http://twitterfeed.com/
Thanks Alex... forgot to comment on the appliance post (had to think about it...)
Yeah... I don't like that I don't think. I want them to make sense as tweets in their own right.
Is that some automated service? Because I tweet almost every link but I like to personalise it...
I'm all ears. Well that's not strictly true. I also have eyes and hands and well you get the idea.
so have two accounts. we must have about 6 at spc.
Nah but I like sending a personal tweet with a blog link...
You'd prefer to follow an RSS feed in twitter than use an feed reader?
no. i prefer to follow an rss feed in tweetdeck.
Why?
#sidepodspace
I'm sure we already probably know about this but one of the guys on the ISS is on twitter: http://twitter.com/Astro_Soichi
Is that for real? Because 'Astro Mike' was tweeting by proxy back on earth...
They have the interwebs up there now.
I don't know: http://twitter.com/Astro_Jeff and http://twitter.com/Astro_TJ
Have they moved on from Windows 3.1 yet?
I don't know but there are some twitpics!
i love twitter lists at the moment. i like the way tweetdeck offers columns of organised information. it syncs more reliably to the itouch than the google reader too and often stories appear there before they do in netnewswire.
Can people do a quick test for me a friend is saying that he can't see my latest post on my site: http://gamboling.co.uk
He can only see Moving Day. What about you?
http://www.ibtimes.com.au/articles/20100125/iss-astronauts-finally-get-internet-access-post-first-space-tweets.htm
also, more and more people are truncating rss feeds, meaning i have to go to the site, plus if you're on the site, you're more likely to comment.
The Empty Vessel – Part 3
Ditto.
Okay must be him... Odd
Don't say I never do anything for you: http://twitter.com/gamboling
:)
Although you could, mr c, it turns out create an account called @mrcsfeed which you followed. Twitter feed can consume multiple feeds at a time and you can prepend a word to them to identify them.
Me too!
It wasn't just him somebody else has just complained too. Very odd.
Presumably they can see it via a direct link?
One guy could see the direct link but couldn't see it on the home page. One guy got a 404 on the page and also couldn't see it on the homepage.
That is odd.
Indeed. I blame blogger ;)
On a tangent... here are some concept designs of Dallara's vision for a 2012 IndyCar... http://pressdog.typepad.com/dogblog/2010/02/images-of-dallara-concept-seriously.html
I like number 1!
Hello again :)
how did it go?
Noo, the question is, what did you get?
He got a sausage roll?
Very well, the interview was super beneficial and I got plenty plus more of what I needed for my research, plus he gave me a tour of how the school was now compared to when I was there and the difference computing-wise is just... I couldn't believe it!
A sausage roll, of course :)
listed: http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/personal
I quite like Number 3, but yeah Number 1 is nice.
Number three is a bit too sportscar for my liking...
Another visit to AUTOSPORT, another article from Mercedes talking about Schumi. Booooooring. ;)
schumi = traffic
traffic = income (of a sort)
Income = more predictions?
i doubt it's very much income at all really. something that might interest you gavin.
if you were to buy some google ads promoting f1numbers, could you work out what you're paying to advertise on each f1 site, and then figure out how much they're earning? maybe.
probably a lot of expense, and still it wouldn't but totally accurate.
Ahh, Facebook freaks me out.
once or twice, i'm sure. ;)
What now?
It's become super stalky I reckon..
and have you listened to a word we say?
i'm happy with the current arrangement, as it is. i'm even looking at cutting my overall blogging output in the blogosphere, what with all the work i've suddenly found myself doing. so i probably won't have enough time for a dedicated blog. :D
It's hard enough trying to figure out where to link effectively to and who is linking to my blog, or even searching for my blog.
So I doubt it would be easy to tell which F1 websites are worth paying for ads to be displayed. I have an idea, but really it would be a hit and hope approach...
Traffic is a factor, as well as it looking like a slow news day. The next big news will be at Jerez next week...
You don't have to blog religiously - I haven't posted since new years. I have been thinking about posts, just haven't written them yet ;)
i'm less interested in who is worth paying, more interested in finding out how what kind of returns they are getting.
just wondered if it was possible to figure that out by putting money into google.
Seeing people I used to know freaks me out.
I'm sure if you paid the sites enough money they'd tell you :)
Ah, yeah I'm with you there. People I am curious about but do not want to friend...
People I am not even curious about!
hehe.
in fairness, you're quite easy to find. even without facebook.
Hi. Just on Force India, someone has replied to Joe with details of the process for late submission of accounts. It includes publically-available records on Force India .
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/05/a-silly-story/#comments
you used to know? so you don't know them anymore? i guess this is different from, say, a long-lost friend?
That would make the costs skyrocket just for a few clicks.
Actually you have asked this at a very good time - the blog traffic had tailed off this week down to about 150 per day, until yesterday when it broke 2,000 views for the first time. This was due to one link in a comment on a Polish F1 blog post about Kubica, where they posted a link to my fuel figures post.
I spend an hour after posting making links on Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, Digg, and lots of F1 fora. The effort has been well worth it however and has not costed a penny, because of plenty of forwarded links like the example above...
Ahhh. Acquaintances...
I'm not hiding. It just turns my head upside down because it was like a whole other life.
Like school people and stuff.
That too I guess. I have a unique situation where I lost contact with all my school friends in the UK and luckily none have found me. A few have from NZ but that is OK I guess. I dread the day where I get a friend request from NZ from someone I don't really care about.
The weirdest part is that people who didn't even want to hang out with me in school and lost touch now want to FB friend me...
What are the odds a given cow will make it to the Superbowl? http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/04/what-are-the-odds-that-a-given-cow-will-make-it-to-the-super-bowl/
it's cost you in time. it depends on how much you value that time as to how much it costs, of course.
I agree. I glance at it once a day. One guy who was my neighbour when we were kids has found me after something like 15 years Turns out he's quite the racist.
It can't have been that long ago, right? ;)
A very good explanation it is, too. Have duly thanked him in the comments.
I have tried from Day 1 to keep the blog free of costs, and I don't mind linking around because the return is ten-fold on my page views, so the time is not wasted. I would have only done something else worthless anyway!
The thing is though, this is how most people are finding the blog and probably how the Guardian found it, so like I said, the return makes the investment worthy...
very true.
Time flies.
...when you're having fun, so they say. Mind you, it's hard to imagine that the 90s was 2 decades ago...
Wouldn't you believe it. Next month is 10 years since I started Uni!
Mmm, mostly time just flies though, whether it's fun or not.
School was another life for me. That chapter is closed. I have no interest in going to a reunion, for example...
Me neither. No way. You couldn't pay me to go.
Agreed! Although, if I won the lottery...
As Mr Einstein had it... Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity.
While we're on the subject he also said, "Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new."
That's certainly the Sidepodcast excuse, anyways. :)
I am always trying something new then!
did he say anything about starting late?
Well he did invent the elasticity of time so you could say he said a few things about it :)
I really miss Windows 7 when I am at work - browsing windows is so much easier!
ooh good. he should be our mascot.
Sidepodcast - Einstein is our mascot
?
There once was a lady named Bright,
Who traveled faster than light.
She set out one day,
In a relative way,
And returned on the previous night.
Ooh, we should do some F1 Limericks for next Friday Fun.
I tried to do that once and it was very difficult!
Oh. Maybe not then.
No no, I want to see if some people can!
There once was a driver called Glock,
Who was a fan of guitar heavy rock,
He couldn't grow his hair,
not even for a dare,
Which made him quite difficult to mock.
That's exactly why I won't do it - I have these images in my head and I don't want them ruined...
:)
Mr C... Here's the evidence you need for the Einstein Mascot thing...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafele–Keating_experiment
These two scientists few atomic clocks around on aeroplanes (and kept one on the ground). And because the clocks moved they all read different times at the end of the experiment.
Einstein predicted this. Time is relative from the point of view of the observer. The viewers think you're late... but you are running on Sidepodtime :)
See, I told you it's still worth it!
we should sell that line to virgin.
Live GP2 Asia on Eurosport 2 in a minute
[missed that when looking at the schedule yesterday]
There once was a pit reporter called Ted,
Who has all sorts of knowledge in his head
When he shares his views
We get to play Ted News
And talk about what he had said
I think I got my tenses a bit mixed up, as per usual.
There was a young man from Frome,
who had a scraggly beard on his dome,
when he went to Woking,
they said, "are you joking"?
he said, "well I was going to use a comb".
I shall stop now.
I just love it how some people are agonising over the Testing Times: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/sarahholt/2010/02/ferrari_and_mclaren_off_to_a_f.html
...While others say they are irrelevant: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/04/testing-and-other-stuff/
I must say with all the fuel load discrepancies I am leaning towards the latter...
:) :)
Oh that's AWESOME. :D
Ooooh, that's brilliant.
Topsy's racing!
what's interesting is that brawn dominated testing last year (albeit all done in march) and went on to win the championship.
so testing may be more accurate at times than we give it credit for.
The consensus is that final testing will be more representative.
You have to factor bigger fuel tanks this year though...
Afternoon :)
I've baked more bread!
Hi Alison
Hello Alison. Send some bread over? ;)
Bassano still owes me a toffee crisp :P
Toast in the post!
:D
Tbh it's normally eaten before it cools....
that's the key though. the last test will be important. this one not so much.
barca is an aero circuit.
:D
except Frome is pronounced 'Froom' ;)
Very empty stands in Abu Dhabi
Maybe they're in the mosques?
Could be
Hotel's looking nice as the ambient light drips though
*drops
It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere. There was a shocking number of mosques off the motorway though!
I guess that's why they're trying to build a city around the circuit
Yeah they've built it a fair way out of the city. I guess to avoid insane traffic....
Bread = gone :(
Where did it go? Into your tummy? ;)
Yas Marina hotel lights seem to only like changing colour for F1 races
if it changes colour and no one sees it, is it changing colour? ;)
:)
Exactly. :D
Sand on the kerbs is having a similar effect to rain
Reckon they should put F1 drivers in GP2 cars when the F1 gets back to the Yas Marina.
There was a young man from Frome,
when driving his car went zoom,
but it was made by B-A-R,
so it couldn't go too far,
before the engine suddenly went BOOM!
Very good :)
don't mess ;)
Hehehe
You say Froom, I say Frome?
I actually say po-tat-to... who actually says po-tat-to eh?
to-may-to and to-ma-to of course exist. po-ta-to sure but nobody says the other one. Crazy!
Some Canadians say po-tat-to eh, others say po-tay-to eh!
:)
I've just spent four hours and three minutes doing the FOTA survey and simultaneously blogging about it. The transcript is now available...

School was another life for me. That chapter is closed. I have no interest in going to a reunion, for example... {Comment #238}
None of my schools bother with the reunion thing as far as I can see, but university keeps trying to invite me to them about three times a year. I keep refusing because they cost lots of money.
four hours?
Hi. Just on Force India, someone has replied to Joe with details of the process for late submission of accounts. It includes publically-available records on Force India .
http://joesawa...silly-story/#comments {Comment #220}
This team has a culture of regarding money matters somewhat... ...flexibly, dating back to when it was founded in 1991. I've got used to it, but it does frustrate me when the team needlessly does stuff like this. I expect it will be sorted out at the last minute, but it's still pretty scary. Come to think of it, I've just helped Mum do her accounts; maybe I should volunteer to help Force India with this?
four hours? {Comment #305}
Well, I did blog about it as I went. And I'll admit to having had lunch in the middle. But I had at least three hours of actual screen time and I think the survey would have taken me over an hour even without the blogging due to the nature of the questions and their structures.
WOW. Epic.
Oh, and LG do make phones. ;)
impressive. i got bored after looking at page one.
Somebody just wished me a happy new year...
On the 5th of February? He's too late for the Julian New Year, and too early for the Chinese New Year.
Must be a time-traveler. ;)
Greetings Earthlings

Re the earlier comments about ISS astronauts tweeting. They can now tweet without an intermediary. Before they sent messages down and someone on the ground converted them to tweets. Now they have the technology to tweet from space.
Rather than digging out individual astronauts you can follow all of them with a single click at http://twitter.com/NASA_Astronauts
yay!! i've just booked a ticket to an evening with Joe :).. so i just turn up?.. does he email me a ticket? do i bring the confirmation of payment?
w00t! i don't remember if he said?
Quiet here today.
Interesting items in the dead tree version of a MAGAZINE. Gary Anderson was reviewing all the new cars. Bear in mind he is only looking at the launch models and they all had their diffusers covered. The two most interesting comments are that Toro Rosso have kept the pullrod rear suspension. Can't believe Alex missed that. Must admit I didn't notice.
.
And finally today was Lord Bradley's last column.
Well done. No idea.
i'm very excited :)
ah okay, i'm sure we'll find out closer to the time.
Send him an e-mail and ask
oh no :(
oh and also..i have some very exciting news :)
For my new textiles project (my exam) we were given the title 'passions and obsessions' and after talking it through with my teacher, i'm able to do formula 1 and motorsport!! :D it's going to be awesome!!! :D
You didn't know he was doing them till this week. You have missed 100 of them.
I think you will enjoy that.
You wil also be happy to know Gary Anderson likes the new McLaren
oo wow, go you :) I'd join you if i I could... stupid work/geography
Actually, hold me on that one.
ooh, firefox have blocked flash by default on their new mobile browser:
The Adobe Flash plugin used on many sites degraded the performance of the browser to the point where it didn’t meet our standards.
http://blog.pavlov.net/2010/01/27/firefox-for-maemo-rc3/
Looks like the world is trying to kill flash
also a good point. but it means he won't make it to digital.
(except on the renault blog)
thank the lord.
He said at the end of the column that he was giving it up to return to Renault. I wonder who will get that column now
I think it took me about 15 minutes - I not sure they will be pleased but if there had not been a breakdown of LG timing I do not think I would have noticed their existence - I tend to screen out advertising. Their computer screens are OK - well they are about the cheapest and that is all I know about them.
some stats from autosport, re: the popularity of this weeks testing:
Between February 1 and 3, 482,320 unique users came to Autosport.com, between them making more than one million visits, and viewing more than 4.3 million pages.
which is brilliant news. however, they can't help themselves:
The site was one of the only sources of news from the circuit
b*******!
http://www.haymarket.com/newsarticle.aspx?news=831
Ignorance is bliss :p
first IE6 and then flash. I wonder what will be next ;)
So why did we have to get times from a Dutch site, a Spanish site and the BBC?
But he's the saviour of the universe!
and watch a german tv feed?
is there much left? that's my two biggest pet hates nailed in a week.
i guess they mean, one of the only sources in english. clearly the bbc doesn't exist in haymarkets world.
erm, whats your third? :p
mediatemple
ah!
sadly, i don't think we can get Google and Mozilla to say mediatemple should be killed off.
That's a terrible piece of English. Were they the "only source" or not?
I have seen this type of phrasing - it is more to make you convinced they were when they were quite obviously not.
i'm just looking at details of their utterly brilliant coverage: http://twitpic.com/11ixkv
i could swear something is missing though?
Write out 100 times "The site was one of the few sources of news from the circuit"
:-D
Is it Day 0?
Hey all.
other luke on twitter, just pointed out a deliberate flaw in the caption on that post: http://www.haymarket.com/newsarticle.aspx?news=831
oops!
Exactly. It is saying one thing while pretending to say something different.
Well it could be from Jerez
2006.
Well it is Schumacher, 1 out of 2 isn't bad
:)
So the caption is right but the picture is wrong...
well testing was in valencia...
the caption matches the picture, the picture doesn't match the article
There was no testing over the same period in 2009
i bet we could prove it's not even jerez :)
h.264 maybe
you cant kill h.264??
Why not?
it's super-freaking-awesomly-brilliant?
and there's nothing better. is there?
#sidepodspace
The official countdown for the shuttle launch has now been started. Weather is now 89% good. Looks like I am not going to get to sleep in on Sunday morning which is a pain since the superbowl is on Sunday night.
Note to self: Don't start arguments about things you don't know anything about.
My whole knowledge can be reduced to:
h.264 is freedom-hating and evil (and possibly expensive); OGG Theora is not
you get e-mailed a ticket which I think you need to print
I am a bit worried about it too.
h.264 is free as long as the people who own it keep it free. And that's currently until 2016? From memory.
you're probably right, but the quality of theora is a bit rubbish. it wrecks our nicely produced videos. you get what you pay for really.
Memory was right.
agreed, but at the moment there isn't anything better.
I just wish they would say, "free forever". It would solve a lot of things.
I've just spent four hours and three minutes doing the FOTA survey and simultaneously blogging about it. The transcript is now available...
WOW. Epic.
Oh, and LG do make phones. ;) {Comment #308}
Thank you :) And I'll bear the LG phones thing in mind - who knows, there might be a test on it next year...
why should they though, if it cost money to make?
:D
Well indeed. Okay... Lets make Ogg Theora better? Or a better version of that for free.
This is where the thing gets dicey on the flash / HTML5 front. Not everyone is implementing the same thing because the standards can't insist on a non-free thing.
impressive. i got bored after looking at page one. {Comment #309}
Sorry. I didn't mean to bore anyone. It just happened to be a somewhat soporific topic...
where does the money come from to do that though?
i know. but html 4 didn't specify jpeg or png, nor did it specify mp3. but we're doing just fine on that front.
I think Mr C was bored by the questionaire rather than the post
Firefox http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/roc/archives/2010/01/video_freedom_a.html
I am so glad you did it because I was thinking of doing the same thing and you have saved me the pain and boredom.
i was. alia, your post was ace.
For my new textiles project (my exam) we were given the title 'passions and obsessions' and after talking it through with my teacher, i'm able to do formula 1 and motorsport!! :D it's going to be awesome!!! :D {Comment #321}
That's great :) Good luck with the textiles project!
@lookingspiffy on twitter suggested the following tweek:

:)
I still don't understand where the money came from to build linux... But now almost everything runs on it.. so I guess these things happen sometimes.
which is brilliant news. however, they can't help themselves:
The site was one of the only sources of news from the circuit {Comment #332}
Did they do the whole week blindfolded?!?
you say that, but i find the quality of linux (desktop) questionable. similarly theora works, it's just not the best thing out there.
openoffice is another example. free, but utterly useless to me.
My whole knowledge can be reduced to:
h.264 is freedom-hating and evil (and possibly expensive); OGG Theora is not {Comment #364}
Unfortunately, I've only got one program which half-understands what OGG Theora is (VLC) whereas h.264 is understood by everything up to and including my PDA (which can even record in it). So my knowledge can be reduced to: OGG Theora is about freedom in principle forever; h.264 is about freedom in practise for a limited time only.
And me.
Good evening. Trains suck :(
I think Mr C was bored by the questionaire rather than the post {Comment #377}
Ah. In that case, I agree with him completely :)
We had this discussion the other day ... it is happening in my office too, but that might be the nature of my industry because at any given time, half the office may be offshore...
You obviously have not tried some of the better flavours. Mint and Pardus are pretty good - Ubuntu is OK. Not had too many issues with Open Office - not the greatest though I will admit.
Thanks Steven
As predicted? :D
:)
also, linux is built on top of the basic principles of unix right? which was a commercial operating system.
i love the idea of free and open in principle. but in every day use, my perception of quality in closed / costly systems seems be higher.
I'm so cold right now that I can't see straight!
I know what you are saying and certainly a lot of "free stuff" is fairly rubbish. Linux/Apache as a server platform is way more stable than Windows/IIS. As a desktop there are some good platforms and they are quick to boot-up and easy for systems administration. I think you should give LinuxMint a spin. KDE is potentially awesome as a desktop - I will admit it has a little way still to go to refine.
but... unix/solaris is a factor more stable again.
i'm done with it at the moment. i know what i want from an OS and i'm happy to pay a premium for it.
an interesting angle that i had not considered before, re: no refuelling. a comment on joe's blog from GP:
I understand that teams will now burn as much fuel as possible during yellow flag periods
ouch!
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/05/thought-for-the-day-3/#comment-11136
It is that premium that your are paying, sadly the premium is more in some places than others for OSX and the hardware. Within a developing country's context Linux offers a lot that is simply financially unaccessible.
No experience of solaris so cannot compare.
completely understood. i can't afford the hardware i want/need either.
if you ever have the time, it's worth a look.
Good evening
hey ya.
I have just injured myself while testing to remove crackle :(
Howdy doodie. You well?
and you didn't think to live stream it?
i'll go live temporarily if anyone is there and interested
oh yes. doing fun things for spc.
can do.
Ouch. Ears.
I am live now...
no crackle.
Ooo...are you able to divulge. I have a plan for F1TP that I want to kick off in time for the season's start.
keep an eye on the daily in the next few days :)
nothing major, just fun.
That sounds awful. But since there is a relevant wiki page:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sporting+injuries
It wasn't my ears that I hurt... It was my finger.
There are a few things like that. Until now if two cars were running close to each other it was an afvantage to go a lap or two longer before pitting because that menat two laps of low fuel running while the other guy had full tanks. Now it is better to pit two laps earlier because you get two laps on new tyres where the other guy is on old tyres.
You have been crackled?
I am slightly disappointed with a fairly high hardware failure of our iMacs - love the operating system - no question it is the best desktop out there. Our Shuttle boxes have been the most reliable desktop hardware. I hate having to manage Windows PCs - I do and there is no way around it either. I have to install in the next few weeks 100 computers. A Linux/Shuttle is about a third of an iMac option. A Window option is about two-thirds of the cost.
and i cannot argue with that in any respect.
Can't hear nay crackle
but how do you burn fuel while going slowly?
No crackle
any not nay
me neither.
ooh, forgot to ask... i like belinda carlisle?
I shall do.
It's not like I don't read it anyway!!
Low gear, high revs, rich mixture, spin the wheels to keep tyres warm. Lots of options. They may even have a special high rich mixture setting that just dumps fuel into the exhasut like they did to keep turbos spinning.
Right tea time...back in 10
I thought that was your embarrassing person that you like...
Maybe it isn't her... I think it might be Celine Dion...
The last two shows were B and C. Bad time to request her unless sh had a D song
I heard the crackle
Boo crackle :(
gah!
:(
I'm getting drunk with my bosses. help!
You need help to get drunk?
It's either soundflower or it's the midi combination thing...
#bassano
re: soundflower... is said blame steven:

If they dump fuel into the exhaust we get flames coming out of the exahaust and all proper racing cars should have them.
well, she was cool in the go-gos.
i'll have to have a think. not her though.
ooooooooooooh!
I am happy to take the blem but I know nothing of soundflower
It hasn't broken the rest of the sound so it's okay... I wonder if it's because I'm using both the 2 and 16 channel one at the same time...
me neither.
ahh. well that is new in snowy.
Urm... when did I go from 11,000 tweets 2 weeks ago to 36,000??????
Twitter problem, loadsa people have had that, me included.
Ohh, fair enough. It threw back for a moment!
ah. does that explain rubens?
Ahh yeah, probably affected his count too
Right so to explain how this is working currently...
Microphone is coming in to the computer Input 1
Music is outputing from RadioLogic Input 2.
Traditionally you would put them both into a mixer and then input the output of the mixer into the computer and select that as an input into ustream.
However we can't do that because the audio is in the machine...
So what's happening now is...
Microphone is still an input...
Radiologic is outputing to soundflower 2 channel.
Audio Midi is combining soundflower 2 and the microphone into 1 output - Nasa setup.
Garage Band is using nasa channel as an input and outputting on soundflower 16 channel.
Audacity is listening to soundflower 16 channel and outputting to regular computer output so I can hear the combined sound on the headphones.
And ustream is listening to soundflower 16 channel too so you can hear the combined sound too.
And somewhere in there is the problem.
Fun!
RG I updated the sporting injury thing
live streaming is hard :(
Okay I'm going to try again....
This read's like a logic puzzle. Unfortunately I don't speak logic
Thankfully I'm not using logic as well!
I can see Alex but I can't hear anything

openoffice is another example. free, but utterly useless to me. {Comment #385}
Strangely enough, I find Openoffice.org slightly better than Microsoft Office (for one thing, I can generally trust it not to crash on me) - but I seem to be in the minority on that topic, both here and off-line.
Can't comment on Linux though because I've never used it (though I've got two copies floating around, they're really for emergency use).
You need to specify version of Microsoft Office - they're so variable (and not exactly improving)
You need to specify version of Microsoft Office - they're so variable (and not exactly improving) {Comment #464}
So far I've experienced versions 6, 95, 98, 2003 (desktop and mobile), XP and 2007. The flaws have basically been the same in all of them except 2003 Mobile in my experience (various levels of clunkiness, stuff doing things that don't even make proper sense even after I got the qualifications which supposedly explained its behaviour and random lock-ups of varied descriptions. Mobile 2003 is good but its functionality is rather limited (which may be part of the reason why Microsoft can figure out how to make it work properly). I've also experienced all three versions of Openoffice.org. They're not perfect (hello, long loading times!) but my main problem with it is remembering to convert the files to Microsoft-readable ones for the benefit of people who haven't been converted to Openoffice.org yet.
I find Openoffice very clunky, and not very flexible. However, I find Microsoft Office is getting more and more business orientated and that's just not the way I need to use it. Microsoft's problem is that they think they know what I want to do better than me and they happen to be wrong.
The standard of contestant on Mastermind now is depressingly low. The winner of this week's episode was asked which Scotsman was known as the worst poet ever and he said Burns. Not knowing the right answer is one thing but how can anyone think Burns was the worst poet ever?
Is it me that hates Office 2007 - I actually went back to Office 2003!
Evening all
Interesting day at Classic Team Lotus today - I was manning the phones all day for the first time, Martin Donnelly wandered in and out and the Lotus 72 was started up outside the office for a noise test! :P
Plus, I've found out something that is sure to make Gavin jealous - Classic Team Lotus now has 2 VIP iRacing accounts. ;)
You met Martin Donnelly. Another great driver who should have been giving Schumacher grief but didn't.
It's not Vogan, that's the third worse...
Literally, I heard Clive say his name in an Irish accent and then about 5 seconds later he walked in! He was otherwise occupied looking for Chris, so I didn't actually get introduced. But, yeah I sat there after he walked through bemused at what had just happened :P
:D
Donnelly was world champion material. Shame what happened to him.
He deserves massive respect after making a full recovery from a crash that should have killed him. And almost did.
for your information...
"The second worst is that of the Azgoths of Kria. During a recitation by their Poet Master Grunthos the Flatulent, of his poem, Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found in My Armpit One Midsummer Morning, four of his audience members died of internal hemorrhaging, and the president of the Mid-Galactic Arts Nobbling Council, survived by gnawing one of his own legs off... The very worst poetry in the universe died along with its creator, Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings of Sussex... in the destruction of the planet Earth."
I do believe Sussex isn't in Scotland, so Mastermind is wrong
Yet
They're going to move it?
you wouldn't be an imperial expansionist scot?
There's another kind?
i am relieved to hear
If Alex is still about, I dug out some of my early HTML: http://twitpic.com/11jpjj

that is quality html!

No way we are settling for that. We want Berwick back
Having offloaded Brighton on you it seems fair compensation ;-)
Another off topic plug but I shall plug nevertheless - http://toata.wordpress.com/2010/02/05/the-development-of-being-arrested/ - I still don't know how Alex does it
Mr C and I are talking about football. We are quite out of our comfort zone :)
I can see you both explaining the offside rule to yourselves :)
I'm guessing ;)
What about football if I can ask?
Erm, we were talking about some football that we watched and trying to remember what it was. Narrowed it down to the Euros. Some penalties or something.
Better than the BBC Football punditry
Turkey v Croatia?
really?
I know it had that fella in it that thinks he's good looking. Ronaldo somebody.
:D
This is like a Legard commentary
It's ours
something happened on the field.
If its Euro 2004, then most likely England v Portugal, in which we lost on penalites.
Euro 2008, Portugal didn't have a penalty shootout.
Christiano Ronaldo? He is Portugese
I think it must be that. That is quite incredible. We need you!!
i remember none of this.
*shakes fist* BARROWMAN is on Jonathan Ross in half an hour ish
I don't know what surprises me more. That you two are discussing football or that you watched football
I know too much football. Could also be the World Cup of 06, in which we lost to Portugal, on penalties.
Oh! Well, it might be that. I think it had something to do with winking.
You can have it - I went there for a holiday and it was one of the most boring towns in Britain!
When we found out that the English and Scottish had been fighting over who owned it for hundreds of years, we joked that it was because they kept arguing "No, you can have it!"
Technically Berwick is still at war with Russia
I would also like Scotland to have it, because since they are in England, the Berwick junior teams play in the Northumbria league. Which requires me getting up early and a fun one hour drive.
Especially the caravan park. Although probably no-one would want that.
RG who would you rather have commentating - Legard or Andy Gray?
That is a cracker of a question
Legard.
The mute button?
I'm sure in some dimension, there is no mute button :(
You go for that and end up with Alan Smith.
in that one, there is still an option to put your fingers in your ears and go "laalaalaalaalaalaalaa"
Or find Radio 5Live and stick it on really loud.
THAT PLACE WAS HELL!
Help! I'm rather drunk but made it home safe. Bosses and alcohol = bad mix!
So what do the football fans think of John Terry losing the England captaincy for having a bit of extra-marital? Who is going to replace him? Ashley Cole - nope he did the same, Beckham- same, Gerrard - he thumped some bloke in a pub. Is there anyone in that team who is not going to be dragged through the press,
As long as he does the job in the pitch it doesn't matter. They're all as bad as each other.
Evening!
I do think that if you go down everyone who has done something wrong who plays football in England, I'll end up as England captain.
Rio Ferdinand is the new captain? In all honesty, I'd give the captaincy to Rob Green.
Personally I've been trying to get into rugby, the international union matches anyway. Six Nations starts tomorrow and I find myself disappointed that I may miss the 2 games.
much better than mine!
Give it to the legend that is 'BIG' STEVE FLETCHER
Same old Terry, cheating again? :D
That was our holiday this year. We thought it would be ok as a stopping point for going to other places. It was so good, we're staying in a cottage in Cornwall this year. Still haven't recovered.
Here's some roads that look like fun: http://www.waze.com/blog/the-19-most-complex-and-dangerous-roads-in-the-world/
Journeyer, what do you know about the one in the Philippines?
I think Paul or Barry Chuckle should be england captain if I'm honest
Do they still have Bradley Bear?
Seriously, it was more a prison camp than a holiday camp - we were booked for two weeks and decided to leave after two days. We went to Scotland and it was the year of the heatwave (1995) so we toured the whole country and had the best time ever!
Ferdinand got the job?? That's crazy. He is the most over-rated professional footballer I have ever seen. He is not exactly a good representative of anything.
I didn't know it started this weekend.
I'd have given it to Wayne Bridge, just for the laugh.
I know, I can't believe it wasn't given to the Chuckle Brothers. On pitch their skills could dazzle teams
To me Barry
To you Paul
To me
To you
Oh no, you've gone and lost it now Paul
Oh dear oh dear...
Good for you. I grew sick of it in the end in NZ...
the "drug cheat"?
#knowsnothingaboutfootball
That would have been funny
Erm, yes. Thats right.
ooh, good.
No, they have some kind of mascot though. The club though, (shudders)
Yeah hang on... he took the captaincy away from an adulterer and gave it to someone banned for implied use of drugs (he 'missed' a test)?
I do love how football is trying to take over F1 in the absurdity stakes ... maybe that's why I like it?
That's him. Have a bit of naughties with a woman you are not married to you lose the job. Get the longest ban in English football history then you get the job.
It is a classic Max decision
and we worry about the fia?
I think every sport is just catching onto the F1 Scandal bandwagon really. Golf, Football, Athletics, next it'll be a cheating scandal in Bowls as 78 year old pensioner takes one of the balls from someone's Bingo bag
The FA, UEFA and FIFA still live in the 1950s. At least the FIA are almost into the 21st century.
Don't get me started on the FA. My team (Bournemouth) get the same points penalty as Rotherham when out 'offence' was half as bad.
Now we've been under a transfer embargo for 12 months, because we *have no money*. Chelsea get a 2 year ban, then cancelled as someone made up a new rule or something.
Just grr.
I think the best solution is to be a casual fan..
I agree - too many games against the same teams. But it is a good sport to follow, especially the 6 nations...
from @scarbsf1:

Chelsea got away with it???
My favourite was when the Conference handed three teams a points deduction last season for fielding ineligable players. But that was because the Conference refused to use modern technology, not only did they not give the points back, but then went all out defensive and refused to speak to the media about it.
There was a very strange situation with AFC Wimbledon as I remember... (knows not much about football)
Evening :)
You're also forgetting the CAF banning Togo from the next two African Nation's Cups for pulling out of the tournament for being shot at and team officials being killed. How callous is that?
They fielded Uncle Bulgaria?
I think the crackle has gone now... But... I don't really know why :(
Where are the details?
:) :)
Hello
Yeah. Apparently the player in question - I neither know his name or care wasn't correctly registered at his other club. Or some other guff.
huh? it's a cad drawing, how much more can you ask?
go to the blog in the link. I don't understand what I am looking at or where the gearbox is?
And fined them $50k
:) :)
Test?
Oh bloody heck!
That was the most ridiculous and immoral decisions I've ever heard.
Well I assume the C stands for cowbell so I was expecting more
Live
on the floor behind the wheel, i think.
Everything else pales into insignificance compared to that.
Terrible.
Die?
I can hear music and see beer
water... not beer...
Funny looking beer
I know where the gearbox is but I don't see any details.
Slight crackling still occasionally
I hear Giggles.
oi! giggles! no!
i don't know what you're asking for?
I have blown up the detail as far is it will go. I can see a cog
That's why Mr C likes it :)
i see the driver is expected to have a broken leg to drive the thing.
No crackle
The original comment said with detail of the gearbox. I assumed there would be a separate detail drawing but there is very little that can be made out of the gearbox from this drawing.
ahh right. no, that's all there is.
Franck had a broken bone just there. Maybe that is going to be his announcement
:)
They got Shuey circa Silverstone '99 to drive?
Good things time machines.
although that is significantly more than any other team are offering.
they have cars instead
also true.
It is unusual to release a drawing at all
Still no cackle
There is cackle but no crackle
he's a witch? may we burn him?
I got better!
He disappeared. That's proof he is a witch
They have several other angles on the home page
http://wheelnutsjournal.typepad.com/
You turned me into a newt
The shape of Michael's face just gets weirder
And now it's bed time....
Night everyone.
who's blog is that then?
night sir.
Good night
Byeeee.
night Alex
http://www.usf1formula1.com/about-the-team.html
i like them already.
Drawings from different angles, some wiring, and a nose. But no car.
I haven't got past the first picture yet.
How can you not like someone with the balls to rock a 'Mullet-and-tash-combo'??
Well?
I forgot about the driver.
It is the best thing they have done
A car would be more impressive
I said that!! Mr C didn't seem to think it was unusual.
Someone needs to correct the final sentence at the end of the first paragraph from this page. It is factually incorrect.

Facebook have changed your homepage again: http://www.facebook.com/sitetour/homepage.php
Just like in a supermarket, as soon as you get used to the layout they change it around!
Maybe it's time for Mr C to change his 'look'!
I hear you loud and clear! :)

I have to say Nick looks very cute all by himself in a big field. Bless.
And no-one knows what Mr C looks like. Have you just given us a clue?
He is a bit Keke Rosberg
That is it exactly!!
BFF's McLaren have updated their shop images
#Lotsofbuttonforlou
more from craig:
USF1: ...by using the transverse gearbox, the case can be shorter, creating more space under the differential. Stacking the gear shafts one a top the other motorcycle style, with a intermediate gear driving the differential. This is wider solution, but has some aero benefits. The diffuser can raise up steeper under the gearbox.
That's what I said when the rumour first came out a couple of weeks ago. He just used three times as many words and a load of technical stuff.
Where have my friend lists gone? I already miss half of what people say???
More Keke than Nico at least.
What other F1 drivers have rocked the mullet and tash? I can't think of any.
Graham Hill was a bit mulletty. Or some Fittipalidi style pork-chops on the face is a good look.
Hmm...
I really like this.
:)
Can't think of one but there must have been a few.
Right.
Hold everything.
Way too plain for me. #needsmorebrawn
and with that I'm off. Night.
Night Lukeh
night Lukeh
McLaren. They only chuffing do Kites!
Oh, that'll go down a storm in the Litchlake campsites.
Night Luke.
Night.
Why do they sell kites?
I wonder how long before someone tries to fly one at a track and takes out a car
Because it'll be a matter of time before their season is up in the air.
Couldn't help myself. *runs*
Or they will be flying high
On the open bridge at the Yas Marina.
Good question.
I remember a few years ago being on the banking up from Club and looking at the massive rocks we were all sat on. Couldn't believe it.
It would only take one nutter to ruin everything.
Talking of which, do you remember Hakkinen having a blow-out coming into the stadium at Hockenhiem in '98 or '99. Apparently...and this is unconfirmed but a letter arrived at Marinello prior to the race telling Schumacher to not worry about Mika that weekend, as his car wouldn't be finishing.
It's in an old copy of F1 racing I think, I'll see if I can find the issue in a box in my folks' loft when I'm next there.
Anyone want a McLaren sock?
https://www.mclarenshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10551_-1_49151_VMM1087
I remember hearing about that but I would think there is nothing in it
One?
It's an iPod sock. I have some (not McLaren ones!)
It's a multimedia sock!
I do like this though At least all my expense receipts would stay together.
For about a week.
shouldn't they have a vodafone iphone sock?
Yes they should!
With a picture of Jenson on the front, pointing his thumbs towards an image of the iphone.
like this?
Yup.
In fact, any pictures of people in future Sidepodmeetups, should re-enact this exact pose.
:)
Done.
Barrowman on Jonathan Ross now
Is this a good thing?
There are a lot of fans round here
hey all! sorry for just disapearing earlier. My friend rang me and asked if i wanted to go round to hers for the evening, and i totally forgot to check back with everything :)
how is everyone? had a nice evening?
Sounds like you enjoyed yourself. You just missed Lukeh. He disappeared off fo the night
:( this makes me sad. i haven't spoken to him much today :(
my friend has a very bad internet connection and phone signal at her house - it's like a mini Bermuda triangle... only in kent :D
Evening Lou.
Sorry...I found out the Button WDC models have now sold out
I am sure you can both survive until tomorrow.
How can people cope with bad internet?
aww bad times :( i'll have to make a huge textile piece for my exam that will celebrate it :)
Hey lou. Can't say I've had the most fun evenings, but I suppose these happen every now and again.
If it helps it looks really good on my desk
bad times. ;)
she doesn't :) she gets very angry. She loves watching ausi soaps like Home and Away and the only way see can watch the episodes when they come out in Aus is to download them, it takes her forever!
:-)
Failed link. Try this Lou

I was pasting a iphone onto the back. But I got my layers wrong. So I didn't
But it does! http://twitpic.com/11hv2o
Hmmm. Tshirt or sock? Hmmm.
Nice. I am tempted to break with tradition and get a non-mclaren
hmmm... i think i'd rather have a brawn hoodie :D
Someone stole my £85 million
I forgot to buy a ticket, so technically I won £2
dont you hate that?
Was is under the mattress?
Given the numbers that came out there is a good chance of a rollover.
Does this mean you aren't buying mclaren socks for everyone?
If I had won it I think everyone would have at least got a McLaren sock but I didn't
http://www.starsandstripesracing.com/
Hmm... I wonder who is tied to this?
All American Racers is Gurney's Eagle team
All-American Racing Team?
Now where have I heard that before...
Not USF1 then?
You need Mr C's whois thing
looks like they hid it:

Looks like the sort of thing Andretti (Michael) would do
He already has a team though.
Oh still? Fair enough then.
It has a number 50 on the wing. Has anyone run that number in recent seasons or is anyon associated with it?
I don't agree with that. It was only done that way in A1GP because of the national angle, I don't think he'd do it in open competition.
I'm off to bed guys
Night
awwww!
@ClaireVWilliams: @jpmontoya loving following you on twitter, Juan...we miss you at Williams! Good luck at the weekend!
http://twitter.com/ClaireVWilliams/status/8692054641
And he's literally just replied 5 mins ago!
@ClaireVWilliams great to hear from you!!! How is your family doing? And the car for this year?
Good night
I miss Juan :(
We could start a rumour that he was coming back based on that
YAY!
night Adie
lucas gets a go too: http://tweetphoto.com/10513763
Checking Wiki for the last couple of years and there's no #50, the nearest I get is Cheever Racing entering 51 and 51 in 2006.
No joy in the Lights list either..
Don't mean to state the obvious, but has it got to do with the number of states in the United States of America perhaps?
Anyone lost a drive who may start a team. Maybe the Green part of Andretti Green?
I got that part but I just wondered if there was something as obvious as someone who was asssociated with the number
Probably, but it was worth a look. They do like to retain their car numbers.
Not sure.. I've no idea what he's up to actually.
I'm glad that I've found your sidepodcast.com blog. Aw, this is a really qualitative post. In theory I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real effort to make a good article... but what can I say... I loiter alot and never seem to get something done.
