From father to son; what better way to start a day?
What's that? It's Friday already?! Fantastic. That means it's time to present you with a whole new daily to get you through the joy that is Friday and guide you into the first weekend of the F1 break weekend. Elsewhere away from F1, I'm very excited that Football League football returns this weekend (with the Premier League back next weekend), but if you're not into football why don't you spend some time exploring the further branches of Sidepodcast's kingdom? There's always the Sidepodcast Wiki, or perhaps you could bring the Sidepodcast last.fm group back up to date or join the Sidepodcast Book Group, as long as you come back here and join in with the Daily. Deal? Deal. Take that, Noel Edmonds!
Paddock News
To be Frank, it's time to move on Williams - It seems Adam Parr is determined to focus on the now and not the then by saying Williams aren't done with 2011 just yet. Come on chaps, let's get through the year and focus on 2012 because it's been a bit of a write off for this season sadly. At least you made a sexy livery and I got to write an emotional look at the status of the team. Plus Rubens is still being all Rubenstastic so it's not all bad.
Korea-ing off the scheduled timeline - Here we go again with the Indian Grand Prix as there are worries about the new circuit at Delhi not being ready for inspections and probably still being selotaped down 20 minutes before the race. OK, so a tad overreaction there (kind of!) but it does seem like Korea all over again doesn't it? Let's hope the Indian organisers and Chandhok Snr can get this all sorted.
Elsewhere...
Gimme a Minute, or 15 hours worth - This absolutely staggers me and what an achievement this is - congratulations to F1 Minute on recording 15 hours worth of F1 Minutes over the years and just an awesome job from Christine to still be doing a wonderful job today. Mr C also deserves credit for being the manda (Man panda) behind the scenes creating websites, apps and have you noticed that gorgeous little F1 Minute he made on the homepage? Very cool. Let's hope we get many more minutes to hear about the world of F1.
Can a 900 year old man turn 50 again? - Lord Moffat of the Steven variety, king of writing and all that is BBC, has announced how he has big plans for Doctor Who's 50th anniversary in 2013 but isn't spilling the details at this early stage. My predicition? The last few Doctors all meet up for a pint, get horribly drunk, one of them gets to know Captain Jack a little too much and rose Returns and Russell T Davies blows up at the end of the episode. Oh, and of course, an awful lot of running.
Classic Games and all that Jazz - Previously in the past I've briefly mentioned an absolutely wonderful game called Grim Fandango. It's a bit of a cult classic but it's easily one of the finest pieces of gaming I've ever played especially for it's storytelling. But Kotaku have had a look back at another reason why it was so wonderful - the original jazz pieces made for the game. Some absolutely stunning bits of music made up Grim Fandango. I implore you to try and find a cheap copy of the game and give it a go. So much fun and original storytelling that would make Hollywood jealous!
Everything is ripping me off and I'm ripping everything off - If you're going to click one link on this daily then please, please, please make it this. You have to see these videos of how, well, everything is a mix! Everything truly does take itself from everything else and this series of videos, currently up to part 3, make for an interesting, engrossing set of small videos that all go through a few minutes length. Plus they're so stylishly told it's hard to pull away from them once you start watching. Damn you everything. he says, stealing that from everything else.
Friday Fun!
Seeing as we have a mid-season break, I thought I would have a little bit of Friday Fun for the masses to encourage a bit of creative thinking down there in those lovely comments and you should absolutely join in if you have any ideas. I ask you, fellow F1 fans...
If there was an F1 Bingo card created to fill in during a race, what F1 cliche's could be part of the bingo card?
Lukeh's mind
To give a better idea, when you head off to the Bingo, you obviously get a bingo card and you mark off the numbers and so on and so on. But what if there was one for watching Formula 1? What cliches would be perfect for a F1 bingo card to tick off during a race ? Who knows, if we get enough brilliant ideas there may be a bit of photoshopping going on tonight when I get home from work...!
And that's that. To close off today's daily, why not a little song from this small British band known as Muse? They're alright, like. I've heard of them a few times. But yesterday I could not get a certain song out of my head and I know Gavin is a huge fan of this song so it seems only right, in true Radio Giggles fashion, to say this one's for you Mr Rubbergoat. Have a lovely day people and I'll see you in the comments.
"I think kobayashi/perez would fit in well at ferrari"
Sometimes I wish we performed poorly more often...
#fridayfun
Don't do that. For a second I thought you meant Bernie. That would take away the only chance I have of enjoying F1 without his self indulgence
Nice daily Lukeh, but by all reports, this delay is exclusively at the hands of Charlie. The Indian GP organisers have, by most accounts, been on time for much of the development, with many of the basic grandstand and circuit structures been completed as far back as May.

I posted the latest Something for the Weekend earlier this evening, but it's not awfully family-friendly, so I won't post the link here.
:)
good lord, i forgot about the last.fm group. we fell out with the site when they dropped all their songs from web playback.
Ever been RickRolled? I've got something even better for the lovers of all things Finnish: Waynes Worlded!
Search Porkka on YouTube and watch their Bohemian Rhapsody from an old VW Polo. Absolutely brilliant :)
have you seen this:
http://www.humblebundle.com/
some decent selection of independent games, they all work on windows/mac/linux
and, you pay what you want...
(curious statistic: linux users pay on average 50% more than mac users and almost 3 times as much as windows users)
yes!! I was going to link to it but It got left out sadly. Incredible deal.
Interesting. Of course if they were proper Finns 3 of them would be playing and the fourth would be sliding the Polo round the field
THey have a game called Cogs. Don't tell Mr C
http://www.cogsgame.com/
I'm still downloading/installing, but out of 5 games I've tested so far, 3 of them look that they'll keep me procrastinating for a long time ;-)
eh? one person appears to have paid: $4,048.00. those numbers are nonsense, if that person was a linux user.
:)
I missed out #confidentialfromMrC
probably a group paying all together
the statistic about linux users paying more is not circumscribed to this bundle in particular, I've heard it before (don't remember where)
I know notch created minecraft and is a big advocate for the indie community

i guess. windows users have bought more than linux and mac users combined.
ergo, i conclude windows users are tight and a bunch of procrastinators and stupider than chrome users... or something :)
Sounds right
There are bunch of people on the web complaining about #newtwitter - I'm glad I don't know them.
Surely there are better things to be doing right now (but look at me complaining about people complaining, which may actually be worse...)
people don't like change.

It's generally OK - but I don't like how Twitter Search takes a lot longer to load now, especially on mobile.

AHA!
don't worry, I've worked on it for so long that even me forgot why I was doing it ;-)
Bet you are happy it is done
very happy.
and relieved of being free again, it took far longer than what I wanted (writing, not the whole work).
I still have to pass the small detail of the oral defence, but that's something I'll worry in a month...
It's always difficult to do these things within the time scale you think you should be able to do it in.
Good plan
I blame everybody else. My advisor took a couple of months off and the research council didn't gave me a research position for this year, so there was no pressure to finish :P
This sounds like is heading into the conversation I had with Alison earlier about work expanding to fill the time available
bingo!
(F1 bingo?)
how long have you been working on it then?
Congratulations on getting it done! :)
I started the PhD in early 2006, and should have finished earlier this year (5 years).
But writing the thesis took me roughly one year instead of the 6 months I've had in mind. Not all the time was focused on writing though, that's why it took me so long.
Anyway, it's not a big deal, I was just a couple of months behind schedule
thanks!

"For Sure"
"The team have done a fantastic job"
"Mate" (only likely to come from Mark Webber)
"Disappointed" (only likely to come from Lee McKenzie)
"Actually" (Eddie Jordan)
What a bad headline: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-14414889
Makes out it's worse than it is because the headline says "hospital", but then the article says "minor shoulder injury" ...
Morning all
Absolutely.
Well "for sure" has to be the number one item on anyone's bingo card, followed by "it's the same for everyone."
Perhaps even a "put this weekend behind me and look forward to [insert next race here]"

Good morning again!
How is Sidepodworld today?
Hi Marti,
Not too bad, and you?
Fine, looking at some slot parts.
Today I should recieve four new tyres, which will help to improve my Peugeot 908 performance! :)
Sad to read about Rowan's accident, but fortunetly it seems his life is not in danger.
Aye - the headline was blown way out of proportion
This made me smile somewhat - I've played plenty of horror shows in my time
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/aug/04/musicians-worst-gigs
I agree.
Hot dogs for lunch - I'm stuffed now!
Nice. Today I've got tortellinis :D (don't know the english name of that food)
Tortellinis ;)
Wow - quite a lot there!
It's tortellini :)
Morning all
I see sidepodworld is quite asleep today...
- Christian Horner and Martin Whitmarsh talk to the BBC
- Vettelfinger
- Lee says "You must be disappointed"
- Brundle says "compromised" or "meat in a sandwich"
- Coulthard says "Indeed" when starting a sentence
- "Ted"

NASA has found liquid water at Mars. Wow!
Well, they're not completely sure, but it's quite possible.
Someone tweeted that Mariah Carey is already demanding it as a rider for her concerts ;)
Don't drink the water. Don't even touch it. Not one drop. #doctorwho
hahaha poor girl. I guess she must be at Houston right now, asking for a rocket. :P
Doctor Who is very popular at the UK, no?
I've never watched that programme. :S
It's been broadcast by the BBC for a long time and is very popular since they brought it back in 2005.
I think that a spanish television tried to broadcast it here, but it wasn't a success.

#sidepodspace
Today we have the first attempt to launch the Juno mission to Jupiter. This is the one with the steel Lego figures. There are launch windows of up to 90 minutes every day for the next three weeks which NASA claims gives a 99% chance of a launch happening. I think if you asked NASA what the chance of getting wet if you fell in a swimming pool was they would say at least 75%.
Anyway today's launch attempt is scheduled for 11:34 Eastern or 16:34 UK time and the launch window is open for just over an hour. Weather today is 70% good.
http://spaceflightnow.com/atlas/av029/status.html
It's just dawned on me that the 2012 calendar has four GP's in July alone. Ouch!!
I should have added if Juno does not launch in the three week period it has to be parked somewhere for 13 months till the planets are lined up again
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/juno/launch/Juno_launchpreview.html
I've started writing tomorrows daily, not going to sleep through it this time!
May I add a link (pretty please)?
:)
In another words, at the most 1 out of every 4 swimming pools has been drained, according to Steven Roy's NASA Stats. Even more reason to keep an eye out for small children around swimming pools....
if its about Heikki :D
You are way too organised
Sadly not I'm afraid
i was pretty close to zzzz again and I decided I'd better check if it's my turn just in case. And it is!
Or 1 of every swimmers is dry
ahh, sorry then but I cannot interrupt my process! Perhaps the Sunday writer (Lou?) will be much nicer than I :D
Or 1 of every 4 swimmers is dry
Kind of hard to get wet in an empty swimming pool, but if you are NASA, you have to factor in everything into their calculations, in this case of swimming pools, you are never going to stop drunken idiots from trying to swim in empty swimming pools....
Usually they try to take a running start to dive into the deep end.....
Classic Darwin Award stuff ?
Diving into the deep end of an empty pool must get a Darwin Award
*hugs*
megawall says yes!
Quick question for Mr C or Christine. Can I interest you in hosting a guest post for the swap shop? It seems I have 15 writers and 10 hosts
absolutely jackie. have been plugging the concept everywhere i can, but don't have capacity to write anything worthwhile (except maybe about objective-c programming).
hosting we can do though, more than one if it helps you.
I had noticed that you had *hugs* it's appreciated. Surprised at how much interest it's had to be honest. I'll let you know later tonight who'd been lined up.
Ooohh lovely job
:)
it's a brilliant concept, glad to see it growing.
Well it's nice to share the love and it was inspired as a twist to Thursday Thoughts. Any chance that'll return soon?
ooh, it could've for the break. hadn't thought about it. off-season though, for certain.
I'd play. My main problem is finding the topic to write about, once something gets me interested I'm fine. I had thought about asking you yesterday, the topic I had in mind was "should there be permanent FIA stewards?"
Jackie,
Did you say you needed me to host two posts?
great question. we can do that next thursday no probs.
If you could Leigh that would be awesome. I think that there are 15 writers (17 if Mav and I take part) and now I have 11 host sites
brilliant, it's something I've been pondering for a while
More than happy to do two as well. More the merrier?
Hello lovely peoples.
No sweat - just for the sake of equal coverage, whoever sends posts my way, I might two or three days apart to ensure the first isn't buried
Hi RG
Thanks RG, have a good holiday?
Was good, but its nice to be home.
Yes that's what I thought too, if someone has given of their time you want it to get the page views for a couple of days
Speaking of stewards, it was interesting to note the other day that IndyCar have put Mike Conway, Alex Tagliani and Ryan Hunter-Reay on probation until the end of the year, but apparently said nothing regarding Helio Castroneves or EJ Viso - surely two of their worst offenders..?
I never saw the incident in question, I really should watch more Indycar ... and that reminds me, I must do my picks for Pat's TMR game today
Hey, Jackie I think I can host too if you need another one. (Work might try to throw a monkey wrench into the gears, although)
Cheers my dear :)
More to do with multiple incidents throughout this year - while some of the racing has been good in IndyCar this season, I've also been disappointed by several boneheaded moves.
At least someone is speaking a little sense regarding the TV deal
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/93642
What puts me off with the Indycar is all the non racing periods between the green flag bits, that and the adverts I just can't watch a whole race even though the heart is willing.
If you can get Canal+, they show the races with US commentary, but with no ad breaks and yes - they often go yellow too easily; however NASCAR is worse for that. Much worse.
It took a while but finally someone on the inside has figured it out. Shame one of the established teams with decades of history couldn't do it but I am convinced Bernie has them all hypnotised.
Canal+ is that an internet thing or a TV channel?
Canal+ is French TV
Ah, that would probably be a non then
French cable and satellite, but normally I try to stream it (ahem) from there
must dash, catch you later :-)
See you later Jackie
Victory, because I went to work for a couple of hours on my day off yesterday, today I have the rest of the day off and have come home. :)
Here's some amazing Wave photos! http://www.clarklittlephotography.com/
Listening to the build up to today's launch of Lego to Jupiter I have discovered that our starship needs a Roger because listening to the radio chatter a Roger does all the work
This Roger's available if needs be...
http://tinyurl.com/6xtcw5d
I thought it was Juno. A lego one would surely melt. :)
Those are incredible. I have no idea how he can hold the camera steady enough to do some of those. I guess a few hundred attempts got ruined when a wave smacked the back of his head
Not sure he would be a lot of help. Although is he did come with us it won't take an hour and a half to figure out who shot him
They have three steel Lego pieces on board
Those are really beautiful, I love the way the light is captured as well as the waves.
This is my favourite photograph this week http://www.reddit.com/tb/j5whr
This is how it was done http://imgur.com/zZcG6

Juno mission Lego pieces
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/juno/news/lego20110803.html
I love it
I like the first one too. I think it had something to do with seeing the cars in a Jaguar showroom in Croydon after they won (must have been in the 80s?) but that car always says Le Mans to me.
I am not impressed with the selection available.
I love the Rothmans Porsche but more for the racing than the look. Gulf is iconic but it looked way better on the Porsche 917.
You like purple Jags? I bet you prefer this one

Listening to the build up to today's launch of Lego to Jupiter I have discovered that our starship needs a Roger because listening to the radio chatter a Roger does all the work
You are turning our honourable mission to find free-to-air F1 broadcast into a remake of "Airplane 2!", Steven.....
"Capt, Oveur, Get me McCroskey, Done. !"
1st Officer Dunn: "What ?"
I prefer the one in the post.
You are right. We need Shirley too
Yup, I voted for the GT1 ! the gulf colours were used on loads of cars... and therefore not iconic to the GT40...
Hey! The Security and Tactical departments could use the target practice...Other than that - No names, No pack drill.......
45 minutes till launch of Lego to Jupiter
I just noticed all the brackets have gone. I did not remove mine. I sense a conspiracy
I'm not very good with LM liveries so I can't think what else should be there, surely the Audis.
Sensing an impromptu short quiz coming if anyone's feels their F1 brain vain needs a massage
:)
THere were some fabulous privateer Porsche 956/962 liveries. The Mazda that Johnny Herbert won in which is the only rotary engine ever yo have won Le Mans. The classic American blue/white twin longitudinal stripes
BMW art cars
Go for it. I have 30 minutes before they find a reason not to launch this rocket
Q1: For two points, what was significant about the broadcast of the 1967 German Grand Prix?
They only had a camera at the start finish line. No way the covered the full Nordschleife
Not quite
First race live in colour?
In Europe yes, correct. !!
Steven Roy = 2 pts
ah yes
Seriously? I am a genius when it comes to things I am clueless about
Q2: For five points. To the nearest 5%, what percentage of World Championship races has Juan-Manuel Fangio won?
27%
Nope. Think about the question.....
;)
I will stay out of this one because I know his stats
Are you sure you know this one..?
Yes
Even 10% seems too high if there have been 700 or 800 GPs..
5%
35% if you include the ones that did not count towards his overall score?
is this a trick question and its 0%
Correct.
JMF has won 2.8% of the WC races so far.
Pat W = 5 pts
Steven Roy = 2pts
JMF won 24 of the 850 WC races that have taken place since 1950
;)
It was a sneaky question
He won 24 races from 52 starts
:D
Couldn't help myself
shocking :)
Weasel.
thanks to my sieve like memory if I was ever to quiz you it would have to be like
"Q: What colour is the Ferrari?"
I thought you were meant to be asleep
Q3: For five points. What driver won the final "Race of Champions" in its original run and what team did he drive for?
i got distracted by TV so i have only written one line of daily :D
thanks to my sieve like memory if I was ever to quiz you it would have to be like
"Q: What colour is the Ferrari?"
Any shade of red ? It has gone from a Vain-like blood red to scarlet.
:D
red is correct! a billion points!
Tricky. Colin McRae - Subaru
The one in the Canaries? Surely a rally driver because it was their sort of stage then. Marcus Gronholm for Finland.
Any shade of red ? It has gone from a Vain-like blood red to scarlet.
red is correct! a billion points!
It was hard to tell the Ferraris from the Dallaras at one point..... You could only tell by the way the cars where driven. The idiots where in the Dallaras during those days....
Nope. Nope and nope.
Tommi Makkinen?
Nope.
Clues will bring this down to a three-point question...
I think we need clues
still a long way to go to catch up to Jordans billion.
Clue please, else we'll just be naming all the rally drivers.. :)
Reducing it to 3 points, Danny Sullivan was the runner-up.
:)
Another question?
I had no idea he had ever entered
:D
Are you sure this isn't the IROC which isn't the ROC?
for 8 billion points, fill in the vowels H**kk* K*v*l**n*n
Mika Hakkinen. I claim all those points
Very sure.
double points! 16 billion!
In that case we need a better clue
Hake Kovilonion
I'm hungry
Reducing it to 2 points, it was first held in 1965 and ended in 1983
I thought it was started by Michelle Mutton. She must have just revived the original then
Oh.. so not the head to head competition thing at all then. Non-Championship F1 race? 1983 so it could be.. Keke Rosberg for Williams?
In a way, but also not in a way. She revived the title rather than the format.
1983 - Hannu Mikkola?
Correct.
Crikey.. that was a guess!
Silverstone or Brands Hatch?
THAT Race of CHampions
Prost
So Danny Sullivan must have dragged the Tyrrell up to second
Every year from 1965-'83 (except '66, '80, '81 and '82), teh "Race of Champions" was held at Brands Hatch.
At half GP distance, the race was a lengthy sprint race for F1 machines and drivers.
Pat = 7 pts
Steven Roy = 2 pts
Sullivan started 5th and battled with Rosberg for the win right to the flag. Rosberg won by 0.5 of-a-second.
No fair, I thought you guys where talking about IROC,,,,,,,
:D
Lego to Jupiter launch in ten minutes @
http://spaceflightnow.com/atlas/av029/status.html
After launch there will be a slight 5 year pause until arrival at Jupiter before anything interesting happens
Bobby Alison (answer) would have been met by a resounding .......
"Who the hell ?"
I am sure we all know who Bobby Allison is
NASCAR
In a US related final question for 5 points: How many F1 regulars competed in the 1950 Indy 500?
#sidepodspace
You couldn't make it up. THere hasn't been a hint of a problem all day but as soon as you get within ten minutes of launching it one crops up
not a clue :D
None?
Correct.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a tie-break situation
Pat W = 7 pts
Steven Roy = 7 pts
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Allison
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXbHQtZH8dE
Search you tube for "1979 Daytona 500 Allison"
That's what I get for missing a question :)
:D
Parsons, Holland and Rose can technically count as F1 drivers becasue they got F1 points for finishing in the points for the Indy 500.
I know, that's why I phrased it "F1 regulars"
:)
#sidepodspace
No launch attempt for at least 15 minutes
There some kind of issue with the helium system on the rocket. Quite why it has a helium system I don't know. Cooling?
Tie break for 1,000,000,002 points.
How many Grand Prix did Juan Manuel Fangio win in 1956?
5?
3?
Correct.
Congrats Steven Roy - You Are The Winner!!
(ding ding ding ding)
2
Ah pipped at the last, well done.
Some times I think I am better at guessing stuff than knowing it
May I remind any players of my game to please make their entry
http://toomuchracing.com/2011/08/02/tmr-game-2011-week-28/
Fangio won 3 F1 races (Argentina, Britain and Germany) and 2 non-championship races (Buenos Aires and Siracusa)
These were all GP class and not Trophy races
I think now is a good time to buy beer and a spray paint can for my car.. :)
Then I must do some more reading to catch up on things i missed
Final score
Steven Roy = 1,000,000,009 pts
Pat W = 7pts
The spray paint I can understand, by why would your car want beer?
I am amazed anyone was prepared to drive that car in 1956 let alone win with it
JMF was a little bit different from most folk though
:)
The 'sidepods' are fuel tanks
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/images/large/243/Lancia-D50_1.jpg
Yikes
And despite the fact that the car was raced as a Ferrari it was designed and built by Lancia. When Lancia went bust Ferrari acquired the cars and raced them
I see.
NASA have found their problem and it is on the ground and not on the spaceship.
Now they have no go because someone has strayed into the range so helicopters have been sent out to chase them. Don't aircraft have radios to NASA could send GO AWAY messages to?
You should have been asking me this stuff. I know it
:D
Work expands to fill the time available
NASA launches expand to fill the window available
Right folks,
I'd best disappear - back later on. I finally get to see the GP tonight
:)
That is the kind of tape delay we will all be on in a few years

Launch now due in 15 minutes time. Looks like everything is OK again
It had a long week, it is the least I could do
Launch in 15 minutes. I have a feeling I may have said that before. They keep putting the launch back 15 minutes at a time. It's like F1 refusing to throw the red flag until the 2 hour TV slot is up.
#sidepodspace
The clock has re-started
T-4 minutes and counting. First time it has started in an hour
Lift off of Lego to Jupter
GAH! co-worker came over to ask a question RIGHT before they launched.
Stupid coworkers.
Looks like a perfect launch. An hour late but perfect
Main Engine Cut Off and stage separation
That is the launch part finished.
daily is done, now you can stop worrying that you might not know what Heikki is up to! (to be honest he's probably playing golf)
But how do I keep up with him for the rest of the time. Maybe we need a Heikki daily rather than a Heikki monthly
even a monthly is getting more and more challenging :(
DM him and tell him to do more stuff and tell you about it
he's still doing lots of stuff, I just feel I'm losing my ability to talk about it and not be boring :)
How many people have said you are boring? I bet not a single person has complained even slightly
The Senna Documentary is on the Danish YouSee Player - kinda like the iPlayer except only subscribers to my internet service can see it.
Still cool though!
I just feel very repetitive :(
You only do it once a month. It's easy when you write something to be too critical. You follow Heikki during the month. Then research your post, write your post and check it over a couple of times. So to you there is a lot more repetition than there is to those of us who only read your post. If you feel there is not enough new material write your post on something else. It is your post and not Heikki's
that is true :) you're a wise one.
apparently people only scan daily posts for f1 news anyway.
#notbitter
I can;t help it
boooo people, boooooooo
Not everyone. I bet if you could put a survey together you would get several distinct groups from those looking for news to those that click on every link to those that read the posts but never comment and those that ignore the posts completely.
You can't please everyone so you may as well please yourself
Ooh, Dan Wheldon is going to race for HRT http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/93640
hehe, we can't even do that anymore :)
:)
:D

Sounds like after the problems and delay the Lego is going to make it to Jupiter. Of course a lot can go wrong in the 5 years before it gets there but the difficult bit has gone well
Enjoy a little something from the sidepodcast.com back catalogue.

Oops. I probably should have put some F1 news in some of mine :)
I think I didn't even have any links once
I haven't been around very much... But I sense I may have got involved in some kind of star trek thing anyway :)
I still think the
martiansjupitans should just come visit legolandevening guys!
Jordan decided that you were too busy to find a role for yourself so he made you his assistant
http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodTrek
Of course. Winsor even has win built into the name!
I agree. Maybe that is why there are only three pieces. If they want more......
Ok. I think I understand :)
Can you explain it to me then?
Today would've been his 43rd birthday. Dario and Mark told me on twitter.
Thanks to #Sidepodspace for keeping up to date with Legos going where no Lego has gone before
I didn't know that. Hard to believe he was as old as that.
Today I realised something that blew my mind
When the Royal Wedding were saying their vows, and Wills had to say 'I will', does that mean when Kate did her vows she said 'I Kate'?
They are going to spend the next two years whizzing round the inner solar system before they slingshot really close to Earth and speed off on a 3 year trip to Jupiter. So it is 5 years before anyone gets to play with the Lego
Ah one of those sidepodcasty things has happened... Now it is best to simply nod and smile :)
:D
I will
No you Kate, I Will
That is what I have been doing so far. I figured it couldn't be too bad as we didn't start another new religion again
It's the royal Who's on first :)
Well that's at least something :)
It'll be worth it once they get them.
What?
No, Who!
What's on second
If I ever got a gig to write a Dr Who episode. I would so make a who's on first joke
And so, a young Welshman suddenly realised what his goal was in life - to get giggles to write a Dr Who episode
what does the guy from the black eyed peas say?
Dr: We have these three floor switches. They must be switched in the correct order.
[Amy and the doctor stand on switches two and three]
Amy: Who's on first?
Dr: No I'm on second.
hopefully nothing.
where is the love?!
#sososososorry
Changes the wheels according to sidepodlore ;)
Fire at will?
:)
Boom Boom Pow
hehe
'I gotta feeling'
that's the right move. :)

Found the place for the next meetup
http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/871303-chef-creates-star-wars-replica-treats-for-diners-at-his-sushi-restaurant
hehe
Perfect
I think it might be in Japan, though.
That is far, far away
To boldly go where no meetup has gone before, then.
As Lukeh said in the Daily
Plus Rubens is still being all Rubenstastic so it's not all bad...
He just tweeted:
I saw some news saying that I wanted to stop racing...makes me laugh really. All I want is to carry on racing...
His contract must be up for discussion soon though.
working double hard to have a good car for next year.Problems do exist and we r here to solve them.Williams need me as much as I need them
gmm spread some nonsense earlier, mistranslated from some foreign source.
Are they - sorry is he - still in existence? Haven't seen gmm mentioned in ages
Ahhh that explains it.
I imagine creating a load of rubbish takes a lot out of you. Must have rested...
Evening everyone, here are the blog swap details, hope they're ok http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=7891
Does Rubens have the record for the longest serving F1 driver, or who does?
Rubens is indeed the record holder, currently standing at 48 years and over 7 races
eh?
brilliant, cheers.
eh?
joke fail ;)
seems so :P
I do pay some attention to this 'ere sport y'know
oops.
He is the longest serving driver though yup. I make it 314 starts
or 315... something around that.
basically a lot.
I just can't imagine F1 without Rubens
1/3 of the world championship has had rubens in it. Mental.
That is mental, he's like the link to the past when I first started watching seriously. F1 is enjoyable now but it's very different to the late 90's
hehe:
@pauldirestaf1: Fighting over the tv on a Friday night. She wins.
Is that minus rankings points for allowing himself to be bullied or + rankings points for being considerate?
no idea :)
It's nice that the drivers have been tweeting this week, I've certainly appreciated it and that Paul Hembery is a star
Much more interesting than Andy Stobbart
#sorryandy
i love him! new favourite f1 person, top chap.
Who?
Can't believe that as the boss he takes the time to answer all our questions
the bridgestone man who paul is now, he always used to be on the radio 5 stuff but all we used to hear was what tyres they'd brought.
He was saying stuff in Italian on RAI and I was even liking that. Why don't the BBC talk to him midrace?
He needs his own fanpage, like Christian Horner
Sad end to Rowan Atkinsoin's McLaren F1 http://yfrog.com/khutffyj
:)
ooh, mclaren were expecting to fix it. that's a new car.
Plus points.
#notbiased
I read the story earlier but hadn't seen the pic. Several spins before contact. He must have been flying because he can really drive. Still the repairs will make Ron a few quid
You think that's fixable? It would never drive the same
Maybe they could selotape the back end of a ford fiesta on to save repairs, top gear style. proper cost cutting
McLaren can fix it. It will be a huge job and a huge bill but McLaren will fix it.
I can't imagine what speed he was doing to do that much damage though
Interesting theory although as the McLaren is rear wheel drive and the Fiesta is front wheel drive it would mean there would be nothing connecting the engine to the road. Which would help prevent future accidents.
Photoshop?
we have a question for the comments, that only commenters can answer.
we had an idea that would both promote christine's book, and at the same time possibly create conversation in the comments, on a daily basis.
having implemented the idea, we're now not sure if it's:
a) an innovative way to create F1 discussion
b) a shameless advert that has no place in the comments
give us a few moments and we'll show you an example of what we're proposing.
once you've seen it though, the question is important, will it help create discussion, or simply annoy people on a day-by-day basis?
How well do you know your Formula 1 history?
To learn about this and more events that helped shape Formula 1, get your copy of That'll be the Day: 365 F1 Stories (Part 2).
Love it
promise? would you respond to the comment and take a guess?
and if so, on a daily basis or a couple of times a week?
I think the word lap is missing
oops.
Change your name back
catches me out every time :)
A couple of times a day
How often has Leigh chucked in an impromptu quiz this week? And people love to answer the questions even if they are only guessing
Alternative view that you may not like but I am being honest. I like the idea of something that would allow more F1 comment but if you were to advertise the book every day I think that would annoy after a while, plus, if you are giving away 1/365th of the book every day why would people buy?
wow. ok.
fair point.
that was our fear.
just a teaser.
I have no idea what the answer is though.
Piquet?
i don't either...
where was piquet's last win?
Could you do the teaser thing but just plug the book once a week?
erm. tricky.
No idea
I managed ti filter out a few drivers on the basis that I knew where their last win was and after that I guessed
How about F1minute brought to you in sponsorship with the book?
hehe, now that is advertising :)
it's hard to split the text because we're doing the same thing on twitter: http://twitter.com/365F1Stories
but it's less annoying on there because you can just unfollow the account. will have a look though.
I guess it depends which site gets more individual users visiting and also whether the aim is to promote the book or increase comments. You have a wealth of talent in the comments here, could someone write a viral viseo that plugs the book?
The thing is, twitter is probably a far, far better place to advertise than the comments, because I imagine most of us on here have the books, or at the very least, have heard of them, so I wouldn't really see the point of advertising if I'm totally honest on the comments.
video, I can't spell
the question was whether we could leverage some of the effort that went into writing the teasers for twitter, into creating a discussion.
we can promote the book with videos and stuff later. this is just step 1 :)
I think it has to be worth ago. Run it for couple of weeks and see what the response is
I'd agree, see what happens
ok. 7 days, and then we'll have the same conversation?
if anyone complains during the week we #blamesteven. agreed?
Obviously
Absolutely :P
thanking you all x
Feels odd having a weekend off after two back to back races but I am kinda glad of the break
lie-in tomorrow! but yea, a bit quiet.
I don't even do that much in the great scheme of things but I do need the break to recharge the batteries and re-assess priorities. I should really get a back up hobby for the off season
This sounds like a sidepodcast project. Find Jackie a back up hobby
Do you want an active hobby or a passive hobby?
Something that doesn't require as much effort. Seriously, I've thought of taking up knitting, just because you don't really have to think about it
We could have a sidepodcast design an F1 car in wool project with people having to knit a specific part
Or a craft project where people make thir own car out of some material, Lou can photgraph them and we can put them all in a book
I am sure we can find something more interesting than knitting. Mr C could teach you html5 or Lukeh could teach you the basics of photoshop
#JackieHasLostThePlot ... took a while but finally flipped
How many people can knit? Not me
Please no more html, I have enough of that with all the results ans stats tables
wow!
We could make a car out of chocolate but I don't think we would ever get it done because the chocolate would go missing
can you bake a cake like this red bull one?
https://baked.facebookadmin.com.au/?p=805
I can a bit.
#blameMe yum!
and me
I used to many, many years ago I'd like to do something creative
Yes, I think I could. I used to make novelty cakes as a hobby when my daughter was a toddler
Or how about the community design an F1 board game
Good idea.
If I have whacky ideas when I'm perfectly sober, heaven help ya' when I've had a drink
:D
So what is the object of the board game then?
I think it should be a race to get the new upgrade packages to the next GP and all the logistical problems with getting stuff there. Remember HRT and the customs problem :P
So a dice game where the level of upgrade you have increases the number you roll?
You could have the board as a lap and have a 12 lap race?
Haven't thought that far, it has to involve a few trips to the stewards along the way
Go to jail/stewards
and team orders
You have been found guilty of blocking a faster car have a 2 role penalty
perfect
ooh, jackie. did you see my least-favourite f1 blogger has started his own quiz thingy?
for lou/coldplay fans, youtube are streaming lollapalooza here: http://www.youtube.com/Lollapalooza
coldplay scheduled for later this evening/morning (2am).
anyone who spills drink on the board causes a red flag and a 2 hour delay.
