Welcome to the fourth day of the sixth month of 2009 - the 155th day of the year, with 210 to go before the year end. It was a relatively quiet day yesterday, the quiet before the Turkish storm, you might say. Here are some of the things on our minds:

  • Talking of storms, it looks as though there could be some rain in Turkey today, but the rest of the weekend is due to be sunny. If this rain takes it's time getting to the track though, it could affect some of the early proceedings over the weekend. Keep your eyes peeled for the weather as we head towards Friday.
  • The Backpacker is back, and her guide to F1 is gradually being updated. She's disappeared over the last month or so, but has plenty of insight into the last few races now.
  • You voted in your droves but finally we have crowned the winner of the 2009 Sidepodcast Circuit Character Cup. Spa won the vote by an impressive 126 votes to Monaco's 30 - and was winning by a majority for most of the day, including the extra half hour as we forgot to close the polls. Nevertheless, we will crown the circuit soon, and look forward to the race there later in the year.

That'll do it for now. Your F1 Digest preview for Turkey is already up and waiting to be listened to, if you haven't already. As ever, I will see you in the comments.

    {People will want to watch F1 racing as it is now, not max's version, TV companies will be lining up to show it, and im sure many of the existing ones will find a way to do find releases in their deals.}

Not a chance of that happening. Max an Bernies contracts are rock solid, just like Williams were with the Banks. BBC are tied in for the remainder of itv's old contract for instance.

    Quiet here tonight. That's unusual.

I dont deny the contracts are solid, but there are always clauses for escape (at least with the major providers in Europe). Firstly the whole Ferrari veto thing may be enough to bring a case of misrepresentation on its own. Secondly if all the major teams do pull out, gross mismanagement could be argued. Thirdly the loss of all the major racing institutions could allow an argument to be put forward that the sport has fundamentally changed from the one in the contract.

This isn't to say it would be easy, just not impossible. But i would expect Bernie to be in on any breakaway, he is just to good at the politics to miss out, and he seems to be positioning himself perfectly at the moment

My argument all along has been that if there was a breakaway Bernie would drop Max and go with them. Now that monaco has sided with the manufacturers that is a certainty.

I think the pre FOTA meeting lunch with Bernie was very interesting, and has yet to be fully explained.

I'm beginning to think that just because we haven't heard anything about a breakaway doesn't mean that work on a new series isn't already under way. I suspect the teams do not really want to do it, but they may be preparing something to fire back at Max on June 12th.

I think the plan is to try to force Max out or to put a new Concorde agreement in place that ties his hands to prevent new rules being invented at the drop of a hat. Failing that I think Bernie will tale the Broadcast and circuit contracts and transfer them to the new championships probably buying out CVC in the process.

  • Dans04/06/2009 at 04:28

More likely to expand LMP1 than invent a whole new series i would of thought.

  • Jeremy04/06/2009 at 05:19

This whole situation is being carefully orchestrated by Bernie. Max is his puppet. Despite the appearance of freedoms, Max does what he is told.

I wish the teams would breakaway from 'Bernmax' completely and make sure that the circuits make enough money to ensure the future of Motorsport in general, whatever we may be racing in the future

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)04/06/2009 at 06:13

    For Mr. C:

The MSC/N.Technology entity also created the International Formula Master series in 2007, which is a sort of crap version of Formula Three that supports the WTCC in order to give Eurosport something to broadcast in the gap between the races.

    I love Patronise F1 :D

Max is daring FOTA to start their own series.

We're now closer to the brink than we were when Ferrari sued in Paris...

Well done Max, what a great way to help things out...

    Morning guys,

  • Christine04/06/2009 at 08:49

Max is daring FOTA to start their own series.

Ooh, the future of Sidepodcast hangs in the balance :)

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 08:50

This is ironic coming from last of the late rule setters Max:

"A Concorde Agreement which one receives so late can't be signed by June 12," Mosley was quoted as saying."

And Max makes a mistake in there:

you can organise your own championship. But we have the Formula 1 championship.

He owns the rights to the World Championship. FOM own Formula 1.

  • Lukeh04/06/2009 at 08:51

Ooh, the future of Sidepodcast hangs in the balance :)

    :o damn you max!

Talking about unsure futures, the postie is in my street at the moment and The Sims 3 should be in my hands very soon. so I'll see you guys in November or so I think! :P

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 08:51

  • Christine04/06/2009 at 08:53

    We'll relaunch as Cupcakecast.

  • Kathi04/06/2009 at 08:53

the new teams we know about so far:

    Campos

    USf1

    (Brabham)

    March

    N. Technology

    Epsilon Euskadi

    Superfund

    Lola

    Prodrive

    Have I forgotten somebody?

  • Lukeh04/06/2009 at 08:53

Will do, might do a blog entry if it's reeeeeeeally awesome.

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 08:54

Didn't somebody say that somebody would be getting something as a present for something somebody did when somebody was asleep?

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 08:55

    We'll relaunch as Cupcakecast.

I think you'd have to have a breakaway series Nachcast.

  • Journeyer04/06/2009 at 08:55

He owns the rights to the World Championship. FOM own Formula 1.

So Bernie owns it? Hmmm... That could become very interesting. :)

  • Christine04/06/2009 at 08:55

Didn't somebody say that somebody would be getting something as a present for something somebody did when somebody was asleep?

Somebody did say that. Sadly, it will not run on any of the machinery we have at the moment, so it will have to wait until our next upgrade :)

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)04/06/2009 at 08:56

    Have I forgotten somebody?

No, but MWM did a tour of Zytek and asked them if they could make an F1 engine.

The answer was in theory yes, but not without the money and backing from a major car manufacturer, so they didn't want to do it at this time...

  • Journeyer04/06/2009 at 08:57

    Have I forgotten somebody?

Add Williams, and they'll suddenly have 10 teams versus FOTA's 9.

But the new entry list makes me think that Max is Diablo having created an army of the undead (teams)...

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 08:57

Somebody did say that. Sadly, it will not run on any of the machinery we have at the moment, so it will have to wait until our next upgrade :)

    Mmmmmmmmmm upgrade :)

For just £1 a month you could buy somebody like Christine a functioning "B" key.

For just £2 a month a game like the Sims 3

    ;)

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 08:58

Add Williams, and they'll suddenly have 10 teams versus FOTA's 9.

And Ferrari. Ferrari are masters of the last minute switcheroo.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)04/06/2009 at 09:00

And Ferrari. Ferrari are masters of the last minute switcheroo.

And then watch all the new teams get bought out by FOTA members...

Seriously, did you think Litespeed were in it for anything other than money and publicity?

  • F1Wolf04/06/2009 at 09:03

    afternoon ...

on that "But we have the Formula 1 championship" by Mosley. yes, FIA does not have F1, FOM own it. but what if Max talks on behalf of himself and Bernie ?

  • Journeyer04/06/2009 at 09:04

And Ferrari. Ferrari are masters of the last minute switcheroo.

But ah, this is different. I don't think LDM will like losing to Max... and I'm not sure Max is willing to give in too much to Ferrari's demands...

  • Journeyer04/06/2009 at 09:05

but what if Max talks on behalf of himself and Bernie ?

while it is possible, i'd like to think Bernie is smarter than that and would rather keep his options open than siding with Max now.

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 09:05

on that "But we have the Formula 1 championship" by Mosley. yes, FIA does not have F1, FOM own it. but what if Max talks on behalf of himself and Bernie ?

  • F1Wolf04/06/2009 at 09:05

still, when I see reference to "Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell" I think of GMM (they quote Motorsport Aktuell in half of their stories). Would be nice if somewhere we could see the complete speach by Max rather than sentence here and there

Yeah but you can trust Jonny Noble from AUTOSPORT can't you?

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 09:08

I still have an inkling that this is a massive plan to cause F1 to die. Just so that F1 can start again just in time for a new season next year.

Just enough change to make Bernie's deal with CVC invalid.

Imagine they said the budget cap isn't necessary because every team was to get pots more money from Bernie. Which he can suddenly afford because CVC aren't there any more.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)04/06/2009 at 09:09

  • F1Wolf04/06/2009 at 09:16

yes, but the fact that Mosley spoke to nobody else only to one publication, and issued no statement himself or through FIA makes me wonder a bit ... althoug I would not be surprised if Mosley said what was published

  • Journeyer04/06/2009 at 09:19

Wow, that’s quite conspiratorial and yet quite feasible at the same time…

If they pull that off, that will be the greatest magic trick in F1 history. TBH, I'm surprised that CVC have stayed in and haven't sold out to Bernie yet...

    Evening all

    Greetings Amy. Greetings all.

Quick question - I'm looking to store some files and send links to people so they can download the files. typically 50-70 Mb I expect. I used to use adrive.com but the links only last two weeks and ideally I'd like them to last longer. I'm aware of depositfiles, rapidshare, ziddu, filefactory but i am after recommendations please. Ideally, free and simple for people to download, ideally without having to wait for 60 seconds, and as few pop ups as possible. feel free to send me an email saybekatrocketmail with the obvious three letter word after that (the one that starts with a c). FYI, i don't check that account everyday. thanks, and have a nice day...

Some brusque words from Maximilianus the Greatus... Well, it's obvious now that if FOTA teams are not accepted then they'll just buy out the new entries. Otherwise a grid full of teams with weird names like Epsilon Dubbelskaldi or Eupsylon Beebeefon with pay-drivers will become a reality.

sort of, but less of a problem. you can put any old words in front of the phrase big picture and it'll still work.

    - le mans big picture

    - sports car big picture

    - crazy fota breakaway championship big picture

however, take away the '1' from f1 minute and it pretty much ruins the whole 60-second-play-on-words part of it.

"I have been told the Red Bull Energy station has been updated, images online later."

this is an odd race to be updating your motorhome? or did they need to wait until after the problem of the floating monaco barge had passed.

  • Amy04/06/2009 at 10:56

Nooo, Amy is moving to Finland with us.

    Yes, Finland > Sydney.

  • Scott in Italy04/06/2009 at 10:56

I just took all my sink plumbing apart, then put it back together, and its not leaking. I now feel like I can acomplish anything.

can you come to my house. we have sink problems too.

  • Jeremy04/06/2009 at 10:57

I must check if we have an office there. I'll go if everyone else is :D

since when is SPC moving to Finland?

Thanks for the message Jeremy about file hosting things.

do you also have a flatmate who forces chicken bones and tea bags down the plug hole?

  • Scott in Italy04/06/2009 at 10:58

not me - I'm going to Boston so I can complain about SpeedTV.

  • Christine04/06/2009 at 10:59

Since they has better internets than us.

  • Scott in Italy04/06/2009 at 11:00

do you also have a flatmate who forces chicken bones and tea bags down the plug hole?

So you do this, and then you fix things? or if i get you, i get a two for one offer? No this was a rust issue for us, but I can sympathise.

  • Jeremy04/06/2009 at 11:01

not me - I'm going to Boston so I can complain about SpeedTV.

Email bernie. I think he's given up on trying to read every comment, every day. Once he knows you're stateside, your bound to get a GP in the USA!

You're more optimistic than I am. I am however looking forward to accepting social offers in my new city because F1 won't be at the same time - I'm guess no body does things at 6am in boston, apart from jogging.

  • Jeremy04/06/2009 at 11:04

Rust? In Italy? Never. It must be the electrics in your sink! :p

  • Scott in Italy04/06/2009 at 11:05

Rust? In Italy? Never. It must be the electrics in your sink! :p

:) If it ain't broke don't fix it. when it's broke, just mend it so it gets by for a few years. when that breaks, complain about the constitution. that's how the government works here :)

you mean me or the PM? ;) Every second day, Berlusconi is complaining about the constitution or the justice system or something. in many ways, i will miss the exploits and the articles like "berlusconi's harem"....

  • Amy04/06/2009 at 11:08

Since they has better internets than us.

I have been throttled back to a 64k connection on my usual wireless, and have 1.1gb of my 3g connection allowance left to stream practice/qualy/tennis finals. 1.1gb is not enough, something will have to be sacrificed :(

  • Nathan04/06/2009 at 11:47

Can anyone see a way that FOTA and FOM could tell max and his new teams to get stuffed and go there own way? Would Bernie support FOTA and do this?? Would you like to see the FOTA teams, the new teams or a mixture under the new 2 tier cost capped rules?

Sacrificing F1 for Tennis? That's instant bannination right there!

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)04/06/2009 at 11:51

Yes. Bernie takes FOTA's side, buys F1 from CVC and forms GP1 with FOM contracts...

i moved to italy just to get motor sport at a good time of day, but underestimated my need to understand all the talking stuff. almost a smart choice. so i'm guessing you clearly didn't understand VIC before you got there?

I made a joke about at lunch about census things (those national government survey where you tell them your heritage and religion etc) - if this country had a religion question, it would just have one box "Catholic" and also the advice that you must fill in at least one box. AFL in VIC is the same. you must convert!

AFL is a relI was still surprised they got a good turnout for origin

  • Amy04/06/2009 at 12:12

can you not watch qually in the pub, and use their wifi?

now this is an idea I can get behind. I only went there for qualy once and they failed to get the streaming up and running so I never went back. But taking my own laptop, that works!

  • Amy04/06/2009 at 12:13

AFL is a relI was still surprised they got a good turnout for origin

I saw some posters today for the Soceroos vs Japan at the MCG. What an epic fail of a football game that will be.

  • Scott in Italy04/06/2009 at 12:16

are you commenting on the talent of the game, or the lack of audience?

I think it will be a big turnout - i think if Australia beats Qatar on Saturday they'll qualify for the 2010 world cup - if that doesn't happen the Japan match will be huge. this is a rematch to a game to the 2006 world cup, where many australians gave up at the 85 minute and went to bed (i think at 1 or 3 am) because australia was behind. three goals in a few minutes later and people were pretty happy the next day :) I know friends of my parents where the husband gave up and his wife had to convince him the next day that they really had won.

  • Amy04/06/2009 at 12:21

are you commenting on the talent of the game, or the lack of audience?

I guess I just don't often associate Japan with soccer!

I do know that the Qatar game is on at 2am, because there are ads for it all over my office :)

It doesn't. Wellington Phoenix play in a 35,000 arena and get an average crowd of 1200. Considering how many football fans there are in Wellington, that's Piquet-poor!

They seem a lot smarter, and tend to make more decisions for themselves rather than depending on you. stuff like conversations and keeping up with friends seems to be what they do as well rather than, again, depending on you to micromanage relationships etc as well. so in that aspect, from what i can tell so far, big improvement. Only took them 3 games, like. ;)

It has gone the other way in that they are far more free thinking. If you have two different families you are playing, while you are playing one the other will do its own thing. You can go back to a family to find out that they have had kids you don't want, and they may have even moved house.

No KERS for Heidi & Lurch this weekend...

BMW Sauber has decided against reintroducing its KERS for the Turkish Grand Prix, ahead of what driver Nick Heidfeld believes is an 'important' weekend for the team.

so that was their previous mistake - the other weekends were not important. somebody should have told them that every race was important.

Mr C... Thought this was interesting from John Gruber:

Have you ever noticed that when Microsoft makes a product announcement that people actually get excited about, it’s almost always for a product that isn’t scheduled to ship for a year or more? The Project Natal demo sure looks cool, but Microsoft has long ago burned through its “cried wolf” credibility for me. This thing is vapory even by Microsoft’s standards. Let’s see it when it ships.

Not many Surface systems are around at the moment.

I've used tablet PC's in the past when I had to go out and about fixing things. Was pretty useful. Got clients to sign on the screen, generated a PDF jobsheet witht he signature on it and then emailed it, also updated the system back in the office with the details of what was done and signature and times on site and signed off.

Could even add little drawings into the fix and it would include them.

We've done a basic version for PDA's as well. Doesn't do all that, but we still have the Tablet version and people still use it.

To a certain extent right now that is a Mechanical Turk.

yeah, i know. although i saw another company demo a similar thing a few years ago and it really did work. it cost several thousand pounds, mind you.

my point is, right now i don't see myself getting that excited about the wwdc.

I want to go to Deep Cove, Nth Vancouver

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 14:17

There was a very famous case from the late 18th Century of a machine that would play chess against you. It was a machine that looked like a Turkish man sitting at a table with a chess board on top of it. It would play chess against you by moving it's hand and a chess piece. And it beat anyone who tried to play it at chess.

Of course really a grandmaster was hiding under the table pulling the strings.

    Fooled everyone.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanical_Turk

there is a great book about it somewhere

Agreed. Especially as a lot of the software stuff is essentially out in the open if you are in the development program (as I am sure you are).

    Ah. Still cool though.

So I think the thing they'll do in the demo is kind of stand on the street showing the phone showing the picture of what the street looks like and then turn the phone and pan it.

Of course the problem is that will look very much like the camera app that is supposed to do video too.

But it will have overlayed the name of the road.

yup. it's childsplay, just plug in a webcam and click broadcast.

slight catch. the webcam isn't "here" but it's online and I'm trying to not do anything in the studio - because I'm in a different country. essentially, i'd be rebroadcasting feeds which are all ready available. I'm sure i can figure it out in a great exercise i probably really don't need to do.

I'm too young. Hi all by the way

Reminds me of a time when years ago my house was rung up for a political survey - I answered 10 minutes of questions before they got to "who did you vote for in the last election?". i told them i didn't vote. then they read out some responses as to why and then I said "I'm not old enough to vote". for a second i thought my opinion was going to matter. it didn't.

  • Scott in Italy04/06/2009 at 15:42

Why? I've read all the options and none of them scream out as to why I should vote for them... I have no bias towards any of them. I'm very neutral with this stuff :P

it was a "legends match" that they billed as a replay of the 1988 final. They were just goofing around, inviting heckling from the crowd and they were continuously doing impressions of each other. My favourite part was when they had a challenge to see who could be the first to serve faster than 200km/h. When they finally managed it, I think they got louder cheers than Federer did earlier ;)

And with that, I go to bed!

    Interesting article in Private Eye:

"Lewis Hamilton fears taking a step backwards in Barcelona on Sunday," Matt Butler wrote in thelondonpaper on 7 May, "after revelling in his giant leap forward in Bahrain."

Over at the rival freesheet, London Lite, meanwhile, Geoff Teather was also turning his mind to Formula One. "Lewis Hamilton fears taking a step backwards in Barcelona on Sunday," Teather revealed, "after revelling in his giant leap forward in Bahrain."

And so they both continued for several more paragraphs, two great minds with but a single voice. Meanwhile, the daily star had an eerily identical dispatch "from James Murray in Barcelona", as did the Telegraph website's offering written by "Rod Gilmour and agencies".

The price was in fact written by Ian Parkes, sports reporter for the Press Association. Nothing wrong with using agency copy, of course, but why stick someone else's byline on it?

Sorry to quote so much of the article but I felt it was important for our understanding of the current reportage. No wonder GMM are cleaning up when the papers are resorting to tactics like this to cut costs.

Yikes. I've seen some newpapers have comments like "with additional writing by AP/Reuters" - and what they really mean is that the press agency wrote 99% of it.

  • Nick04/06/2009 at 16:59

Back when i worked in a newspaper in the distant past, it was overseas, and the paper carried news from all over the world. We would often use Agency stories, and a lot of the original stories were heavily based on reports from several agency's. Its a pretty common system, especially in the states where most papers are not national. I would imagine with freesheets its even more common.

However changing a byline and not crediting the agency is completely wrong, and probably against the syndication terms

  • me04/06/2009 at 17:00

something joe pointed out in his blog that i hadn't connected:

"It is amusing to see that names like Brabham, March and so on are being revived to give the FIA championship some names that people might recognise if the current teams are excluded next year."

  • Alex Andronov04/06/2009 at 17:01

    very, very interesting. thanks alex.

Private Eye had a similar article on Cricket Corrospondents in the issue before. The telegraph had got some names confused and had the same reporter at two places at once.

  • Nick04/06/2009 at 17:01

Yikes. I've seen some newpapers have comments like "with additional writing by AP/Reuters" - and what they really mean is that the press agency wrote 99% of it.

Normally it will have the agency initials at the beginning or the end. "additional reporting" normally means quotes have been taken or an eyewitness account of something.

  • Journeyer04/06/2009 at 17:01

Max's team - and Bernie's - the latter of which I find a bit concerning. Let's hope Bernie didn't push them to join. If he did, I'm inclined to think he's siding with Max...

Absolutely and that's the point. The papers are embaressed to admit they've cut the sports staff so much. So they are pretending.

And my guess is that is a big driver of GMM type reportage.

  • Scott in Italy04/06/2009 at 17:03

The telegraph had got some names confused and had the same reporter at two places at once.

It's the same guy who covered the Iraq war in 2003 by being in the USA and pretending he was in war zone.

    i guess transparency means little,

Max is daring FOTA to start their own series.

    http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75796

We're now closer to the brink than we were when Ferrari sued in Paris...

Interesting tactic. Wonder which way Bernie will jump.

  • Steven Roy04/06/2009 at 18:01

"A Concorde Agreement which one receives so late can't be signed by June 12," Mosley was quoted as saying."

This is from the same guy who constantly bring in ridiculously tight deadlines. Teams who were looking at committing to an F1 program in November were given a few days notice of a May deadline

  • Nick04/06/2009 at 18:02

The BBC mole makes it sound like Max has his heat set on a new formula badged as f next year, with Williams joining in the fun too.

  • Nick04/06/2009 at 18:04

Williams were the only part of the puzzle that didn't fit with my idea that a FOTA series is already being worked on. Maybe they just realised they couldn't afford to be competitive in it, and stood to make more money dominating in F1 against weak opposition?

  • Steven Roy04/06/2009 at 18:10

I think they know that Max can't create a new series so they are playing politics. If as usual the FIA wins and everyone caves in Williams are in th FIA good books and will make a few quid. If Max's new F1 collapses Williams will join in with FOTA and if their is a FOTA championship the terms will be more favourable to the teams so Williams will be happy to accept those.

Well, to take your mind off it a bit, Williams have a new aero package for Turkey:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5AfPilyebg

Basically for those who can't see it, they've got revised aero pieces on the front wing, the mirrors have been moved on to the vertical aero pieces on the sidepods a la Ferrari and they've revised their diffuser a bit to deflect around the rear wing end plates, which to me is very clever.

There is absolutely no point to watching BB because you know the mix of people who will be in there and how they are going to behave and react. The first series was an original program but now it would be like watching the tenth repeat of the same thing.

    Brabham DNA?

The family are considering legal advice about the new team using the name, apparently...

I'm impressed that it's nearly 10pm and still wear shorts with a lovely temperature outside :)

I'm glad this day is nearly over.

  • Scott Woodwiss04/06/2009 at 20:55

Interesting, ignoring the reality tv source of their fame, they seem quite good. I love their version of Kashmir and I'm a big fan of classical music anyways so I might have a look at this. Cheers Scott.

    No problem :P

    Wow :(

It's actually warmer now that it was together, in some kind of bizarro-world change of climate stance. or just Wales, whichever way you look at it :P

maybe Muppets would be more apt

The F1 teams should leave F1, they don't need to be there.

I was going to steal an idea from powerboat racing, where races consist of say 6 laps around an oval course, and 2 of those laps require them to round a third bouy to make a triangle, its the driver's decision on which laps to do that.

How about we do that in F1 for some circuits like barcalona where divers have to take an extra chicane once every 3 laps or so?

  • Jackie04/06/2009 at 21:26

    I thought it looked nice.

I'm sure it did :) It seems odd to me that there's not much F1 news and there's a race weekend starting tomorrow

I say we do half a lap round an F1 course, and half a lap through the nearest boating lake.

With the craze for reality TV, I won't be surprised if a racing series somewhere starts a race with 22 cars and the public votes one out every 5 laps until a winner emerges or two hours have elapsed.

  • RG04/06/2009 at 21:29

    Malaysia?

No, thats artificial boating lake, I mean F1 car on the water. It gives the teams more of a thought in designing a new car, do they get a powerboat look and risk capsizing, the sailing look and be slow (ideal for BMW).

Until Facebook became popular, about half my friends didn't know my real name

  • Flibster04/06/2009 at 22:36

    you have a real name?

    I do wonder sometimes. :D

I received a wedding invite a couple of years ago adressed to Flibster and his better half.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)04/06/2009 at 22:40

Your real name is Rubber Goat?

No silly! That's the internet bit!

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)04/06/2009 at 22:40

I'm frequently referred to by people by my net name. I respond to it better than my real name to be honest. :D

That's coz you wouldn't tell us your real one!

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)04/06/2009 at 22:42

    To whom?

myself. like if i do something stupid.

I have a Danish friend who has a very Danish name ... which she anglicised to all her non-Danish friends.

Trouble is, every time she did something stupid she referred to herself in her anglicised name, to the point where it was becoming a split personality...!

Milky bar has chocolate in it. But it's made by Nestlé, so is by definition evil.

God, my uni was constantly either putting up signs to say it was banned, or holding meetings to ban it more.

Didnt really bother me too much.

It seemed to change every year. First it was to do with breast milk. Then it was to do with ripping off poor farmers. Then it was something to do with poisoning groundwater along with coca cola.

That's because they do all of these things and more and deny it. They've been doing it for years. It was a sad day when they took over Rowntree - no more Kit Kats, Fruit Pastilles, Fruit Gums or Polos :(

i read it. i can't see why it would instil so much hatred in someone? because they appear to to have an overaggressive marketing pitch?

if it helps, i've consumed more than my fair share of nestle's products in my lifetime and i'm just fine and dandy thanks.

I still like the story of someone who was doing a child development exam *or something like that* and part of it was a question asking for 9 reason why breast milk was better than powdered milks.

He gave all the normal responces, antibodies etc...., and got up to 8. But couldn't think of a 9th reason. So put down. It comes in such lovely containers.

He got full marks for that question - the only person who did. :D

The problem with formula is that if you don't make it right or with safe water, then it's worse than useless, deadly in fact. Nestlé have a track record of providing free samples (like a drug dealer) and then selling tins with the how-to instructions printed in the wrong language for the end user. Imagine if you had to make those cupcakes, but the instructions were only in Russian, Greek or Dutch and you had no access to Babelfish.

I love it, its what sets F1 apart from other series...

  • Dans05/06/2009 at 01:05

This time round its hyper intense. I keep smiling when i think what Max has managed to do, its a amazing bit of brinkmanship.

Pleased to get back to some organic type of championship 2010 too.

  • Dans05/06/2009 at 01:07

"...more in the spirit of the way racing was in the 1970s to 1990s, before the manufacturers came in and corporatised everything".

I have a feeling that FOTA will already be working on a breakaway, they have to be, its the only response they could launch back at max if they aren't there on June 12th. Its going to be a fun day.

  • Nick (on the naughty step)05/06/2009 at 01:09
