Wednesday already, and according to Wikipedia, it is also Dave Richards birthday. I guess he will be holding off any massive celebrations until next week, when the 2010 entrants are revealed. Happy birthday anyway, Mr Richards. Here are some of the things we're talking about today:

  • Massa seems to think there's a chance he can get his fourth Turkish GP win in a row, albeit a tiny, tiny chance. Ferrari are seemingly faster than they were at the beginning of the season, but I'm not sure they are ready for wins yet, are they?
  • Our F1 Big Picture Turkey build up begins, with a great picture of Sebastian Vettel a couple of years ago in the Toro Rosso. Red Bull also think they're in with a chance of some improved form in Turkey, but will anyway be able to get past the Brawn boys?
  • It is your last chance to vote in the Circuit Cup, as we are now in the final - Spa vs Monaco. It was perhaps an obvious final from the outset but the route getting here was fun, and I can't wait to see who ends up victorious.

That'll keep you going for now. I have just had to renew the Skype number and voicemail box, so don't forget to call in your thoughts, ideas, predictions on 0121 28 TRACK. Can't wait to hear from you and I'll see you in the comments.

Anyone who's interested in going to goodwood this year may be excited to know that the list of drivers/riders that will be appearing over the weekend can be found here I've got all excited about it cause Jenson will be there, as will DC, Mark Webber, Timo Glock (don't tell R.G) and a few others. :D

  • Scott Woodwiss02/06/2009 at 23:09

    huh?

    Ah, I'll explain.

Simply, in the Sony E3 press conference, they showed the trailer for Gran Turismo on the PSP and I spotted a Ferrari Enzo, and I'm just happy about it :D

I never get that excited about GT4/5s any more, i'm really not a fan of the whole "understeer like a cruise liner" thing

we'll it has to be a darn sight better than GT4, i had one go on that and hated it.

Speaking of that, looking at the GT PSP trailer a little more closely, I can't help but feel it's just a handheld GT4 with Ferrari's. Looks awesome, don't get me wrong, but it looks like it has pretty much all the same cars and tracks as GT4, just the Ferrari's have been ported in to "update" it.

  • Jon Waldock02/06/2009 at 23:16

have we discussed dieter rencken's article this week? it's another good one.

of note, he totals 18 potential f1 entrants to the 2010 championship, but also mentions that lola's entry may be conditional that the budget caps are enforced.

additionally, the fia have published a handbook detailing cost-cutting measures right down to "allocation of gym club expenses".

  • me02/06/2009 at 23:45

Mr C's will be much better than mine as he has been to goodwood lots of times

i wouldn't bank on that. am completely out of practice and don't have f1 testing or the bgp to get my eye in this year.

it's less about being in the best place, more being prepared when something happens. for two years running we scoped out the absolute best place to stand for a shot of lewis, and twice they re-routed him down different escape roads.

  • Paul02/06/2009 at 23:52

wel last year Jenson walked round with his friends on the saturday in a kinda disguise (Well a big hat and or a hoody apparently) and was hardly noticed (i've probably mentioned this tuns of times). not sure he'll be able to do that again :( success comes at a price.

I don't see the similarity at all there. CB could barely reach 10 miles a way on a good day. It was getting very popular until the government introduced legal FM CB in 1981. Before that it was all not very legal AM imported from USA

I would not normally share my dreams because I know it's annoying to read about other people's made up stuff, but I figure this is worth recording for posterity:

Dreamt last night that the Monaco podium ceremony was taking place in my flat. Was struggling to fit the champagne in the fridge, and the trophies were so heavy they broke the table.

The Prince got something on his shirt, and I said we had plenty of time to wash it whilst the drivers made their way from the track to the flat. He said he would just buy a new one. I said didn't he know there was a recession on, and then we started arguing.

Me and Prince Albert, arguing over the laundry. Priceless.

  • Journeyer03/06/2009 at 08:15

    also Massa for the win!!

  • Chris03/06/2009 at 08:34

    Prodrive/Aston Martin

    USF1

  • Christine03/06/2009 at 08:40

I did not know of the parade lap podcast. What does this include?

The Parade Lap is no longer a podcast, but a live stream that starts about an hour before the BBC coverage begins. It's just some general chatter about F1 with some music, to build up to the race.

The replay is available after the event, but this year we've decided not to produce the podcast and put it in the feed. You can see recent shows here: http://www.sidepodcast.com/category/parade-lap/

    o ok

  • Chris03/06/2009 at 08:43

Christine, do you or Mr C play any F1 games at all, as I am looking to see if there are any games I gave missed. I have the following:

F1 Manager (based on 1999/2000 season)

    F1 06 (PS2)

    F1 05 (PS2)

Any more anyone can think of?

  • Christine03/06/2009 at 08:45

Any more anyone can think of?

We don't have much time for games, sadly, but I know there are a lot of people on here that do.

  • Journeyer03/06/2009 at 08:45

Any more anyone can think of?

    Sony Liverpool created F1 2000, F1 2001, and F1 2002. I think they also created an F1 2003.

EA also produced some games around that time. They also had F1 Challenge, a single game covering 1999-2002.

  • Chris03/06/2009 at 08:46

Mr C, is there any way of getting a new little box on here so we know who is online because you could be just typing away to no body!

Bernie doesn't allow the F1.com live timings to be embedded. Apparently there are workarounds but we also don't want to get sued. We're still thinking about it, though.

I think Bernie is Anti-F1 on the internet. I think I remember a news story back in the off-season saying there was going to be new online live graphics for F1, like the rev, speed and kers graphic

    Still no joy

  • Alex Andronov03/06/2009 at 08:55

If you make the new live comment live thing window narrow it stops being two columns wide, and becomes just one. As you can drag everything around you can set it up so that you can see both windows at the same time.

Once the show is over, we put up a replay so people can watch back, if they so desire.

Any chance the rest of us might be able to get a copy, perhaps via the internet? I'd have applied for an entry to get one of those had I not been put off by the €309,000 entry fee (few books are worth that much money and that book won't be among them).

There is considerable reference to the book in the regulations and I would be more comfortable with the regulations if I could see how the regulations would be enforced.

  • the Blue Orange Lion03/06/2009 at 10:20

Was scanning through F1 garbage news and found this quote from Kubica or as M. Hamilton used to call him "Q-Beecha".

"When the opportunity for me to drive in Formula One came I could have said 'no, it's too early for me. I would rather wait for another year'."

It's normal for any aspiring young driver to say "no" to an F1 race seat offer I guess. Maybe anothe case of meaning lost in translation? Wait another year as possible Renault test & demo driver? Is that a hint from Robo? I suppose there were no Polish Ferrari drivers before him? Possibly. I'm in the mood to start a new rumour.

F1 Manager (based on the 1996 season, made by Europress and nothing like as good as the game of the same name made by somebody else and based on 1999/2000)

Grand Prix World (based on the 2000 season)

Ferrari Challenge (based on the 1991 season, runs on a PC via an emulator)

    Grand Prix 1-4 (based on 1991, 1994, 1998 and 2001 respectively; I don't have Grand Prix 4)

Grand Prix Manager 1 and 2 (based on the 1995 and 1996 seasons respectively - though I only have GPM2)

Johnny Herbert's Grand Prix Championship 1998 (based on 1998)

Grand Prix Circuit (an absolutely ancient game; released in 1988 but not tied to any particular year)

Wikipedia also has a list of F1 games for computers.

    During the weekly pod cast you mentioned this live commenting, Can you view the live timmings in the same window as this commenting as I normally have my laptop live with the timings, would be cool if I could get this commenting and timmings on the same screen on my 15.4 laptop {Comment #180}

I think you'd need to have the live timings and commenting in different windows. My practise set-up involves three windows (one for live timing, one for video, one for other stuff) and, at last count, eight tabs.

    Do I remember correctly that Fisi has been involved in every 1st corner crash in Turkey from 06-08? {Comment #232}

    You do.

2006: Started alongside Alonso, which was fine until the Renaults and Michael Schumacher attempted to go three abreast into the apex of the second corner. Giancarlo, faced with a choice of hitting his team-mate or spinning, did the latter. This resulted in chaos. Surpringly, the only retiree was Tiago Monteiro, and that was because he got caught between that accident and Christian Klien's accident at the back as they converged.

2007: Starting from the midfield, Giancarlo got stuck in a gaggle of cars carrying too much speed. Ended up hitting Trulli and triggering chaos. Amazingly, everyone carried on, though some had to pit for replacement bits and pieces.

2008: Starting from the back, Giancarlo missed his braking point (citing distraction from Bourdais) and took the season high-jump record by using Nakajima's car to vault him into a gravel trap. Needless to say, that ended Fisi's race right there, but Nakajima only made it as far as his pit because of the damage to his car.

Putting live timing and commenting in different tabs works too. It's putting live timing and commenting in the same tab that Bernie resents for some reason.

I have fond memories of Ferrari Grand Prix on the original Macintosh models in the mid to late 1980s.

I remember (vaguely) reading in a computer magazine about the current known world record on a particular track and getting very excited because I was faster than it!

I cant remember exact details, but I know that I could keep the accelerator (mouse button) held down for the whole lap and just steer which the magazine said was impossible but suggested it would be the only way to beat the current record.

Is it though? They are both tough to win and require a driver with skill, experience and engineering savvy...

in Amy news I got 6 more Racing Lines today, including the one where Lewis was mentioned for the first time, he has a 4 page article in the November 1998 issue. Possibly the best issue ever because the rest of it is celebrating Mika's championship :D

    Hey again.

Just got back home from the hospital. For some reason, even though I have been told that I don't have epilepsy, they made me have an MRI scan. It was noisy and very uncomfortable and now I feel tingly and dizzy and have a splitting headache. I wish the doctors would just leave me alone :(

  • Jon Waldock03/06/2009 at 15:14

Yep! All is well. Plus we have a new printer thats very flash, it even has a disk drive to burn picture cd's, so i'm keeping myself amused.

  • Jon Waldock03/06/2009 at 15:16

Well, least your on two legs and okay.

Although my left leg is a bit dodgy, bit bruised, but don't think that happened in said incident.

Hi Gavin, sorry you're still not sure what's going on, but every test should get a you a little bit closer to a diagnosis.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)03/06/2009 at 15:18

Hi Gavin, sorry you're still not sure what's going on, but every test should get a you a little bit closer to a diagnosis.

My diagnosis is: I am fine, I am perfectly healthy, I don't have epilepsy, but I have to have another test because someone else said so.

TBH, if this goes on, I'm just gonna go mental!

  • Jon Waldock03/06/2009 at 15:19

That dosen't sound very nice, hope you feel better soon. You could try sleeping? or taking something for it

  • Christine03/06/2009 at 15:19

TBH, if this goes on, I'm just gonna go mental!

    Can't you just say no?

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)03/06/2009 at 15:20

    Can't you just say no?

But the thing is, if they can't rule out epilepsy I can't drive. Ever.

As an F1 fan that's quite annoying so I want them to draw a line under the whole thing...

  • Christine03/06/2009 at 15:21

But the thing is, if they can't rule out epilepsy I can't drive. Ever.

Ah, ok. I thought you said they had already confirmed you were fine and healthy.

  • Scott in Italy03/06/2009 at 15:22

    Can't you just say no?

My advice is to keep doing the tests. Sure it's annoying but even without the driving issue, they can hopefully make sure they know what's going on.

  • Amy03/06/2009 at 15:25

I have drop.ioed the most relevant SPC picture ever.

Ah, ok. I thought you said they had already confirmed you were fine and healthy.

That's where it gets confusing. For some reason I have to have all these tests done - probably to rule it out, but I'm really getting annoyed because they say one thing and then just do another.

So on the one hand all is well, yet at the same time they act like they're looking for something. And that really stresses me out :(

  • Amy03/06/2009 at 15:29

Ha, I don't need to be told!

That picture freaks me out to be honest, people watching me sleep is my PET HATE so for someone to photograph it, even if I'm fake sleeping, would be my worst nightmare.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)03/06/2009 at 15:30

My advice is to keep doing the tests. Sure it's annoying but even without the driving issue, they can hopefully make sure they know what's going on.

A lot of people have advised the same. But what are they testing for if they think I am OK?

I have had EKG, EEG, blood and blood pressure tests. I have had a two-hour physical. They have found nothing. Now I have had the MRI and have to wait at least a week for the results.

Next they'll be cracking my head open just to be sure :( Quite frankly I don't trust these guys and I am unhappy with the way I have been treated - just shunted along the line like a railcar. If they sat down and talked to me about the incident, the fact that I have had no further symptoms and that they have found nothing, they would see that I am fine too!

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)03/06/2009 at 15:31

Have you told them that it's upsetting you?

Yep. Told the last doctor (#6). I asked him why I needed a scan when he could see that I was healthy and his response was "Because [his] supervisor said so"

I can feel a Tremayne coming on here...

But I'm fine. I fainted because of exhaustion IE lack of sleep (Non-SPC related!)

  • Scott in Italy03/06/2009 at 15:32

If they sat down and talked to me about the incident, the fact that I have had no further symptoms and that they have found nothing, they would see that I am fine too!

To second what Christine said earlier, have you said this to them. Not all doctors have the solutions and I guess they're just referring you to someone who might be able to help - a different set of skills will hopefully find something.

  • Amy03/06/2009 at 15:34

7-6 6-2. One more please Roger!

  • Christine03/06/2009 at 15:37

Yep. Told the last doctor (#6). I asked him why I needed a scan when he could see that I was healthy and his response was "Because [his] supervisor said so"

Naturally, I don't go around handing out medical advice, but from what you've said, if I were you, I'd be kicking up a fuss already.

I think Vettel could be put in Webber's shadow this weekend. He might be a talent for the future, but he hasn't really outshone his team-mate this season like he was expected too. the next couple of races could tell us a lot about him

  • Dans03/06/2009 at 18:12

Moving onto the fun stuff, now that we have at least 6 good new teams, i reckon its enough for Max to do whatever the hell he wants and will reject the fota entry.

Looks like Toyo, Reggie and Bull Juice could be out of a job.

  • Nick03/06/2009 at 18:21

Moving onto the fun stuff, now that we have at least 6 good new teams, i reckon its enough for Max to do whatever the hell he wants and will reject the fota entry.

I think bernie is obliged to have at least 17 cars on the grid so Max would need them all to be capable, and run the risk of loosing the FIA's most high profile series to a breakaway. Max's strategy is always to push far too hard then let go just enough at the last possible minute.

  • lou03/06/2009 at 18:21

Looks like Toyo, Reggie and Bull Juice could be out of a job.

but all of fota (except williams) have entered together, surely if max rejects the fota entry all 9 teams won't be in the championship next year?

  • me03/06/2009 at 18:22

but all of fota (except williams) have entered together, surely if max rejects the fota entry all 9 teams won't be in the championship next year?

he could reject them and then they could each pay late entry fees.

  • Dans03/06/2009 at 18:24

Breakaway, schmakaway. Wont happen far as i can see.

Even if he rejects the entry, Ferrari and Williams are in. Add to that 7 new teams and you've got 9, leaving 4 places left.

Brawn and Macca will be in for sure, only 2 left, whos gonna be crying when the music stops...

  • lou03/06/2009 at 18:24

he could reject them and then they could each pay late entry fees.

not sure i follow your reasoning. ferrari are currently tied in with the other 8 fota teams. as are brawn and macca?

  • Dans03/06/2009 at 18:28

Brawn and Macca will be in for sure, only 2 left, whos gonna be crying when the music stops...

RedBull likey to be there as they have that independent ethos, Down to BWM and Force India most likely. Lets see if Bob Marley starts changing their tune... lol.

  • Nick03/06/2009 at 18:30

Even if he rejects the entry, Ferrari and Williams are in. Add to that 7 new teams and you've got 9, leaving 4 places left.

I think FOTA will have to breakaway if they are rejected, they cant sit out of racing for a season. None of the FOTA members have entered for next year, only the organisation itself. As far as i can see, if max rejects it, any contracts held with Ferrari will have been broken. Ofcource there will be a court case, max probably wouldn't get re-elected e.t.c.

It wont happen though, All the teams will be there for next year, and i suspect Torro Rosso will be sold to one of the unsuccessful applicants

  • Dans03/06/2009 at 18:31

not sure i follow your reasoning. ferrari are currently tied in with the other 8 fota teams. as are brawn and macca?

Ferrari have a contract with FIA to race till 2012, form filling is just a formality.

The entry can be rejected in its entirety, then its down to who Max wants. If they are excepted, they all have to race under the budget cap. Unless he agrees with fota's proposal of course, cant see that happening!

  • me03/06/2009 at 18:32

I think FOTA will have to breakaway if they are rejected, they cant sit out of racing for a season.

autosport were speculating that max may let all the new teams in and cut fota loose. however, there's nothing stopping mclaren offering to buy lightspeed's assets and entry.

  • Christine03/06/2009 at 18:32

autosport were speculating that max may let all the new teams in and cut fota loose. however, there's nothing stopping mclaren offering to buy lightspeed's assets and entry.

F1 with none of the current teams? Boo.

understood. i can't see ferrari ever allowing the fia to peruse their accounts. that isn't how italian companies work, especially when the company we're talking about is called fiat.

  • me03/06/2009 at 18:34

F1 with none of the current teams? Boo.

not worth getting out of bed for.

however, it could be temporary as various people try to buy there way back into f1 via the backdoor.

  • Lukeh03/06/2009 at 18:35

not worth getting out of bed for.

I think I would still watch but at the back of my mind feel sad we didnt have names like ferrari, mclaren et all. Would be very sad :(

  • Nick03/06/2009 at 18:36

autosport were speculating that max may let all the new teams in and cut fota loose. however, there's nothing stopping mclaren offering to buy lightspeed's assets and entry.

I think FOta probably have some sort of covenant to gaurentee their members loyalty, i cant see how they would trust each other to enter the way they did.

I wonder if they have any backup plan for next year ready to go?

For a team like Mclaren, racing with the current F1 teams is going to be a lot more attractive than a bunch of nobodies. Look how many people flocked to max's F2 series last weekend. I think that will be similar to Max's f1 of unknowns next year if it has to go up against a FOTA series

  • Dans03/06/2009 at 18:36

The only concession i can see Max making is the glide path, long as he control of it all.

Remember this is most likely about Spankys revenge... hehe.

I think I would still watch but at the back of my mind feel sad we didnt have names like ferrari, mclaren et all. Would be very sad :(

for me it would depend if there were mostly new drivers too.. new drivers + new teams would not equal f1 in my eyes and i would probably loose a bit of interest, as in i may watch some races but i wouldn't go all out to make sure i saw them, like getting up at silly o'clock in the morning. but i don't think it will happen so all is good :D

  • Scott Woodwiss03/06/2009 at 18:39

For me, it took a few minutes (15 or so) and I missed a few questions on my first quiz attempt. I presume there's still 30 mins before the quiz starts though. Better sign up quick.

Indeed. :) But I think Nick signed up already - he's just waiting for the activation email.

  • Ollie03/06/2009 at 19:07

Indeed. :) But I think Nick signed up already - he's just waiting for the activation email.

That's the email I was talking about. It took about 15 mins for me to receive it. It wasn't PF's fault, prolly my hosts fault. Just adding a voice of warning from my own experience.

How are you Journeyer? As I've not been present in any live blogs this year, I've been missing your insights and general chatter. I hope all is well in your part of the world though.

  • Alianora La Canta03/06/2009 at 19:07

Breakaway, schmakaway. Wont happen far as i can see.

    Even if he rejects the entry, Ferrari and Williams are in. Add to that 7 new teams and you’ve got 9, leaving 4 places left. {Comment #493}

Williams are in. Ferrari are complaining to the effect that the FIA has broken the contract between itself, the Scuderia and FOM, in which case there is no reason why it would need to comply.

Force India has a contract with the FIA and FOM though, because Jordan signed a deal with Bernie in late 2005 (about two weeks before Williams did).

I can't see a breakaway happening but that's because I doubt the manufacturers can be bothered with the messing about that would entail.

  • RG03/06/2009 at 19:08

Nothing so far, ill give it another 5 mins

Whats you be calling yourself on there?

Yeah - where have you been lately? :) Last couple of weeks have been a bit rough, but on the whole, tis good.

  • RG03/06/2009 at 19:09

Ignore, you should be able to get on now.

    Awesome, thanks

  • Alianora La Canta03/06/2009 at 19:13

    You must love Piquet then {Comment #498}

No way! Piquet Jr. managed to completely annoy me before he even entered F1 with his arrogant attitude and lack of results to justify said attitude.

He's done nothing in F1 to change that, plus his driving lacks a certain spark (difficult for me to put into words, easy for me to spot).

Entering Renault because some sponsor said so (rather than because he was a better option than either Fisi or Kovalainen) didn't help matters either.

To put the seal on it, most of Piquet Jr's crashes are pretty mediocre. At least when Fisi crashes he usually does so with style...

  • Ollie03/06/2009 at 19:14

Yeah - where have you been lately? :) Last couple of weeks have been a bit rough, but on the whole, tis good.

This season was meant to be about BF1, so I stepped down from any live blog commitments in order to concentrate on it. However, work (real-life work) has stepped up a gear and now I'm all over the place, working hard in the real world and trying desperately to keep the site going. So in a nutshell, I've been nowhere, mostly. I call it Cyber-Homelessness. "Spare any change, mister?" :D

Not knowing what it is (to prevent any foot-in-mouth scenario) I hope that whatever it is that is causing you grief is resolved soon. You deserve happiness and uninterrupted viewing of motor sport. :)

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)03/06/2009 at 19:15

No, they have applied, but if they'd announced on friday their story would have been taken away with the whole FOTA thing, so by announcing it now, they get a clear news cycle.

  • me03/06/2009 at 22:17
  • Nick03/06/2009 at 22:17

Actualy i have had a brainwave.

You have to wonder how many of these teams have a flying felipe's chance of getting on the grid. I will exclude USF1 from this as there modus operandi is slightly different.

Now that the cost cap appears to be moderatly dead, look at how Honda couldn't find anyone who could come close enough to buy the team and run it. Have these people suddenly become considerably more wealthier or committed over the last 6 months? Unlikely, especially as they would have been guaranteed a place on the grid back then, and far more publicity as being the only new team

  • RG03/06/2009 at 22:17

i'm not convinced it's gone at all.

  • Jackie03/06/2009 at 22:19

You have to wonder how many of these teams have a flying felipe's chance of getting on the grid. I will exclude USF1 from this as there modus operandi is slightly different.

That flying Felipe quote must surely be wiki-worthy :D

Can I butt in with a quick request. Can the guys who submitted quiz entries check that I remembered their scores correctly please. TY

I got 31.5 but not to worry!

Will change it .. me chicken memory

  • Nick03/06/2009 at 22:21

i'm not convinced it's gone at all.

Its not gone, but i wouldn't bet millions of dollars on it being there any less than i would have tried to run an f1 team with it in december. Also strange that none of the new teams got together with a joint bid. espescially lola and prodrive.

It does make me think that these potential new teams are just wishful thinking .. and they could do the sports image untold harm if they get in and make a mess of it

It does make me think that these potential new teams are just wishful thinking .. and they could do the sports image untold harm if they get in and make a mess of it

  • Steven Roy03/06/2009 at 22:54

It does make me think that these potential new teams are just wishful thinking .. and they could do the sports image untold harm if they get in and make a mess of it

Bear in mind the last time there was an option for new teams to enter there were 12 candidates

  • Paul03/06/2009 at 22:55

if they get in, the damage is already done. having a bad race or ten couldn't make it much worse could it?

Might make for a good season for Williams!

    Yeah I've been half-reading :-)

    none.

    Bodes well for the wannabes...

  • Pat W03/06/2009 at 22:57

One other thing before I vanish again... I hope they bring back the 107% rule..

  • Steven Roy03/06/2009 at 22:58

And how many were taken on?

Prodrive who wanted to run customer cars. Then customer cars were banned. Typical FIA

  • Jackie03/06/2009 at 22:58

One other thing before I vanish again... I hope they bring back the 107% rule..

I'd love to see that back .. and the 12 lap qualifying

  • me03/06/2009 at 22:59

One other thing before I vanish again... I hope they bring back the 107% rule..

isn't that pointless if there are no manufacturers to set a sensible benchmark?

  • Paul03/06/2009 at 22:59

One other thing before I vanish again... I hope they bring back the 107% rule..

So williams will be sitting be themselves at the front of the grid. Interesting.....

  • Nick03/06/2009 at 22:59

will teams be reassed each year before they are approved entrants ensure they are still able to compete?

I don't get the closed shop, franchise model. They need to open th sport up.

  • Nick03/06/2009 at 22:59

    Reassessed! not reassed sorry!

  • Jackie03/06/2009 at 23:00

isn't that pointless if there are no manufacturers to set a sensible benchmark?

Isn't it necessary to keep the potentially slower teams developing?

  • Pat W03/06/2009 at 23:00

isn't that pointless if there are no manufacturers to set a sensible benchmark?

There will be manufacturers. The boards will panic when they realise it looks like they won't be in the Real F1. Maybe not as many as now as some will use it as an excuse to pack up.

  • Pat W03/06/2009 at 23:01

I don't get the closed shop, franchise model. They need to open th sport up.

Yep. I love this speculation over the new teams, and I think they won't be as slow as some seem to assume.

  • Jackie03/06/2009 at 23:02

It's all doing my head in and doesn't make sense. They want budget capped customer cars entering next year so that the following year they can become manufactures in their own right on an even smaller budget .. how the heck can that work?

  • Pat W03/06/2009 at 23:03

    cough *cosworth*

erm, practically spec engines? cossie will be 'allowed' to catch up, if only gradually

  • Flibster03/06/2009 at 23:16

F1 with none of the current teams? Boo.

May as well call it Formula GP2 and Williams...

  • Rich03/06/2009 at 23:18

Now that the cost cap appears to be moderatly dead, look at how Honda couldn't find anyone who could come close enough to buy the team and run it. Have these people suddenly become considerably more wealthier or committed over the last 6 months? Unlikely, especially as they would have been guaranteed a place on the grid back then, and far more publicity as being the only new team

What prevented Honda from being sold was the liability represented by having a big workforce. Still I wonder if there are some people kicking themselves for not buying the Honda team!

  • Lukeh03/06/2009 at 23:19

woah woah woah woah. Lewis Hamilton is working on Forza 3!!

Yeah, or Honda for selling it. DOH !

  • Lukeh03/06/2009 at 23:23

Ensuring the tyre wear model is accurate and the red light penalties work? ;)

    Haha :D

Check this out, although reading again, it's more McLaren are working on it with the guys at Turn10:

Turn-10 Studios is pulling out all the stops to make sure Forza 3 isn't just another racing sim, but the racing sim. And it's doing that by sneaking a peek at data yanked from the simulator Lewis Hamilton uses for practice.

"Their simulator was an influence on the game," director Dan Greenwalt told OXM. "We were swapping notes on how they do the complex fluid dynamics for their aerodynamics as well as how they generally simulate tyres, offroad surfaces and what have you.

"That was very helpful for us, to be able to swap notes with basically a commercial grade - where there is no expense spared - simulator and learn the sort of tricks they've learnt and give them basically to the masses at 60 bucks."

I was wondering for a moment, as Lewis technically still has a deal with another company (EA) so that was a little confusing. Still, McLaren data going towards the game; wonder if it will include pit radios?

  • Rich03/06/2009 at 23:29

Yeah, or Honda for selling it. DOH !

Honda have admitted as much that it was a mistake BUT I think the Mercedes lump is part of their success (the Honda engine was not as powerful and liked to commit suicide as a fiery ball!)

  • Flibster03/06/2009 at 23:30

Honda have admitted as much that it was a mistake BUT I think the Mercedes lump is part of their success (the Honda engine was not as powerful and liked to commit suicide as a fiery ball!)

If they had the Honda anchor in the back they would be trolling around in the early teens rather then winning.

The Honda V8 appears to be even more shockingly bad than the Cosworth was. Surprisingly as they had the most powerful V10.

  • lou03/06/2009 at 23:31

if the team were still honda they wouldn't have been winning races and dominating this year that's for sure. the engine was useless. It would have blown up in bahrain lol.

  • Paul03/06/2009 at 23:32

The Honda V8 appears to be even more shockingly bad than the Cosworth was. Surprisingly as they had the most powerful V10.

Where did Honda go so very wrong? They had THE engine in the 80s and early 90s

  • me03/06/2009 at 23:35

Where did Honda go so very wrong? They had THE engine in the 80s and early 90s

they didn't have to last two race distances. and they weren't homologated.

  • Flibster03/06/2009 at 23:35

Where did Honda go so very wrong? They had THE engine in the 80s and early 90s

Even the last V10 they produced was in excess of 1000bhp *possibly as high as 1075bhp from some accounts*

Turns out, they couldn't adapt to the percularities of a V8 engine.

    thoughts from JA:

"...on June 12th I think [the FIA] will name Ferrari as an entrant, despite the Italian teams’s desire to be part of the dissident group. After that it will be up to Ferrari to challenge for their right not to compete."

Wasn't he part of the great FOCA revolution?

  • lou03/06/2009 at 23:47

I think a breakaway is starting to make more and more sense for FOTA.

in my opinion i don't think they'll be going anywhere... they'll all be racing in 2010 and no doubt talks will continue about the other years and the moment Max steps down or is chucked out things will straighten themselves out. i just can't see it getting that major. they all know what they are doing and they know how Max negotiates things, they'll sort it out.

  • Lukeh03/06/2009 at 23:48

Yes, but i cant see FOTA doing nothing, the only option they really have left is to announce a breakaway and start organising like crazy. they control 2 parts of the f1 trinity in the drivers and the teams, and the third part, the circuits are probably just as fed up with the money extraction at the moment as the teams are

But what about the contract part and the TV part?

But what about the contract part and the TV part?

People will want to watch F1 racing as it is now, not max's version, TV companies will be lining up to show it, and im sure many of the existing ones will find a way to do find releases in their deals.

The contrat one is tricky for ferrari, but i would be confident they could argue they have fulfilled there obligations to enter. even if they dont, they could enter a psudo team with little effort put in, concentrating on the FOTA championship.

I don't even know weather it would go ahead, but what else could FOTA do after june 12th to up the ante, and find a beneficial deal. The fia elections are in September i believe, and if max goes then reconciliation could happen before next season.

Sorry I hit post instead of preview, and that post makes little sense grammaticly, but I hope it does conceptually!
