Qualifying day in Sepang then, but we've got a good few hours before the excitement begins. Hopefully, we'll be catching up on some sleep today and there will be no extra-curricular press conferences to keep an eye on. Here's what we're talking about:
- There was a plethora of headlines to cover yesterday, so much so that F1 Minute was simply a roundup of all the stories. Listen to the 60 second catchup here, and then let us know what you think about any of the topics covered.
- It looks like BMW aren't quite convinced that KERS will be the answer to all their problems in Malaysia, and have yet to decide whether to run it or not. Heidfeld ran one FP session with the device and one without, but he seemed to be pretty slow throughout, so presumably they have more data on which to base their decision.
- Sutil has admitted that the chances of Force India getting into the second session of qualifying seem to be pretty slim, which is not really what we want to hear. We expect to see the team towards the bottom of the timesheets by now, but it's just not the same if they are resigned to their fate, rather than hoping for better things.
That'll do it for now. There'll be some new threads along later for Free Practice 3, and Qualifying, plus a results post and an F1 Digest. Lots of good stuff to come, and until then, I'll see you in the comments.
Woo, quali day :D
How is it already Saturday?.. I'm still celebrating from last week :D
Lou, you've lost some capitalisation and gained a pre-emptive question mark
Cool, is this SPC time travel. I just commented in 3rd april and now I'm here, or is it there!!!!!!
We could tell you how we do it, but we'd have to kill you :)
i know... i commented from ye olde comments.... which really hate me... i swear it's trying to mess with my head... cause it's still not showing any comments on any posts... plus Doohickey has stopped letting me comment (am using desktop doohickey - which is fine btw), and lclt also hates me... it's not goind too well ;)
So I've got the Mac site up and now confusion reigns, which 1 to go for.........Ideas please. Bearing in mind I'm a P.C. dinosaur at best. you'll understand when some of you meet me.
Laptop or Desktop?
Oh and by the way, on the 15th, is anyone interested in photo's of my Williams 30th anniversary tribute? If so I'll bring them for you to see. No worries either way, dont want to be pushy etc.
Laptop would be better coz then I can take it to work when I'm nights.
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/FB402B/B?aosid=p204&siteid=1433098&program_id=2554&cid=OAS-EMEA-AFF&tduid=0dfdeeefd7c1a38760821beaf822a7d3
OK, what would you use the machine for?
Posting on nintendo DSi. Fun.. but very confusing. Cant sleep :(
Is there a deadline to this?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Name+The+Joe+Saward+Chats+Show
Just had a thought, is Joe Saward one of the 'Joe's here?
If there is it will be in sidepodtime
Isn't that a given ;)
Maybe not:
:( ... and the DSi has wifi? very cool.
Just doing stuff like this, etc etc. I am a proper dinosaur you know, not someone who pretends to be.
Get a netbook if cost is an issue
(Would still say a Mac, if it isn't. It really is one less thing to complicate your life)
Hehe. White Macbook will be more than enough then.
The DS Lite had Wi-Fi.
yup, this one:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/03/16/episode-95-everybody-wants-to-be-a-formula-1-driver/#comment-217540
:)
Did the Nintendo Pups chew the cables?
nintendogz is strangely addictive.
it does?! i never knew that... all this time i've had a DS lite and never know. lol
What you both need is a sponsor whose main message is "tells it like it is"
Not sure if there's a big dollar in that (see Bill hicks)
last weekend christine picked up a new habit of talking verbosely in her sleep, claiming ross brawn was going to tell her all the secrets.
i just had a conversation with her, where she claimed the russian's were talking to her, and they wouldn't fix me a strawberry milkshake.
...anyone mind if we take next weekend off??
I tried to train my brain, it didn't work :(
Worked for me - I have the brain of someone much younger than me. :)
podcasting should come with a health warning.
:D
I had a missus like that once, could answer question in her sleep during her nocturnal ramblings, was most amusing
Luckily, she was as honest as the FIA are crooked
aww :)
Just next weekend? Sure that'll be enough?
hehe. podcasting may damage your sleep?
Right you're getting me sold on this Mac thing, looks like about £600 which is'nt too bad.Anyways I away to my bed now so I'm up for FP3, are we live commenting again?
no idea. but i have an insatiable craving for milkshake. damn those russians.
To be fair, Mrs S. Artois was probably to blame that day
Someone will be, probably Journeyer and Mr C (Me)
Do they still have their toilet issues with the americans?
Actually, that should be - me (always lower case)
More like £719? Unless you are a student ;)
With a bit of luck, probably me.
Or using the refurb store
(which are apparently tested above and beyond the new stock)
every session, all year bootneck. post should be up around 5:30 i think.
nice one rg.
hehe :D something like that. :)
Knowing me something will go inevitably wrong.
:D
Which is why I don't have a blog, 5:30 = drunk blogging
or 'I'm late for work', depends which week it is - earlies or lates
hang on a second.... why 5:30?
or 6:30.
:D :D :D
Do you curse the interwebz lime Lou as well?
BST was last weekend remember?
:D that sounds much better :) i was going to say, why are you getting up an 1hr 1/2 before FP3? :P
FP3 starts at 7, commentary a little before
i can read...
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/02/malaysia-schedule/
:)
I'll be there 6:30ish see ya all later.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
good night.
I doesn't understand owt like that at 1am
interwebz lime?
must be russian.
:D
*like*
:D Russian for Milkshake? ;)
Pass me the virtual vodka
Yet you type colloquially
i'm totally lost... do i curse what now? (yes i'm very tired ;) )
Colloollollollo what now?
Lou has an infamous knack for breaking all things with 1's and 0's
–adjective
1. characteristic of or appropriate to ordinary or familiar conversation rather than formal speech or writing; informal.
2. involving or using conversation.
oooh right. yeah i do that alot... you know i don't think i break it, i just don't think technology likes me very much ;)
Parade Lap
I think you're Honda love has turned you into a Firestarter
*your*
damn grammar, my keyboard's broken, Guinness failure pint 4.0
Now there's an idea
:D
:D
New found honesty under Signore Domenicalli:
"Again today we had a technical problem which, if it had happened in the race, would have led to a retirement."
i suppose Christine could do it in her sleep... :D
Yet again, Kimi saced thenm some time, by LEAPING from the car
"This morning we had a problem with the KERS, which cost us a bit of time, but we managed to make up for most of it in the afternoon," he said
*saved*
Mr C: where'smy edit button on the list ;), I'm dying here
hehehe. june/july. can you hold out until then? :)
Alonso: "The situation seems different compared to Australia, at least in terms of how the tyres operate"
Now, it's the hard tyres that are crap
When my brother was small you could hold a conversation with him including asking him if he was asleep - he'd say yes.
I think my space bar is broken, either that or it's not big enough
[hold your jokes please]
Thought I would weigh in with support for you both
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/barrichello-drops-five-places/
umm...?
Ahh, hasn't 'published yet'
"Just wanted to say that I’m really getting quite hooked on both your blog posts and your Sidepodcast talks.
Both of which are refreshing, candid and are sometimes, very human insights into the world that we all love and are sometimes very frustrated by"
tell me this isn't my laptop again...
ahh okay, thank goodness, i had a horrible thought that my laptop may have turned against me once and for all
ahh, cool.
very much appreciated, thank you. feedback is good :)
Am guessing that Joe doesn't have his own Doohickey - noob!
Am heading off now. That jokerinthepaddock.com game is annoying me and I think the computer is cheating. Bye.
night rg.
night RG
:D
There really is not much else out there that is as 'human' as this place. I thought that Joe was at his most candid on the Ben Hur post, just didn't want to say that on his site. Will maybe email later
For the record Mr C, I can understand your own reasons for being so positive and neutral but I think your opinion and commentary is most valuable when you are at your most emotive.
Most of us are grown up enough to understand that it is your opinion and you do, at least provide some 'right to reply'
I went to work one mornin and was told that I had been right about how to solve a problem they had phoned me about. I thought they were winding me up but they had phoned me at 3:30am and I had a conversation explaining in detail how to sort the problem out. Next morning I had no memory of it. I used to get a lot of calls so had a phone point next to my bed. So I answered it without ever waking up properly.
Is that the wok equivalent of 'yes dear'?
*work* :(
So, the Guardian handed over the podcast baton to the Telegraph
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/5099800/F1-Podcast-Brawn-GPs-Rubens-Barrichello-and-Red-Bulls-Christian-Horner.html
interesting. someone said i spent to much time sitting on the fence the other day.
of course, and i think i always give it. or at least try too even if i don't communicate it very well.
a couple of things have changed since we started spc though. for one, we now get so many points of view via audio conversations and comments, i have much less tunnel vision on any one subject.
the other thing is, the more people we meet, like joe, or croftie, or... okay i'm just namedropping now. but the more people we meet who really know inside f1, the more i learn that almost everything happens for reasons not always obvious at first.
the kers talk we had (the one we can't talk much about) was a real eye-opener in terms of how and why things happen. to the point we, or certainly i, walked out of the room thinking... everything i thought when i woke up that day was wrong and now i think exactly the opposite.
that kind of thing can do strange things to a person.
but please do call me out if i am sitting on the fence, or as rich did yesterday, when i was completely wrong. but i don't want to be controversial just for ratings either :)
Okay, sleep time for me. Night all, see you for fp3 :)
see ya lou.
G'night Lou
ahh cool. the guardian couldn't compete against the bbc last year, i'll be impressed if the telegraph can do better now the beeb have access to more people and material.
is any good, i best not turn the speakers on right now.
Good night (1)
I think you are as eloquent as you need to be, Christine does a fine job as host and handles all the responsibilties that it entails.
My opinion, and it is only that, is that your role as... 'side kick' - for want of a better term is to say what a neutral host will not, with some technical footing
[don't think I'm able to express it now, sidepod hugs all round, anyway]
{I really do think my space bar might be broken!}
that is good point. hmm.
:D
That is how I (personally) would/may be. We love your show regardless and you guys are going from strength to strength. I had the feeling you were consciously 'aiming' for that sorta pitch - I am quite often left of field in this sort opinion so take it as ya finds it
One of your biggest, (website/community) strengths is your interactive and feedback friendly approach.
I, like many others, only found myself here due to the quality podcasts that summarise the GP weekends perfectly.
Well, it kinda grew from there - sidepodcake anyone?
I hadn't thought of it like that before but I like this summary.
Seems theyhave the same webmasters as the Renault team :(
And of course there's the potential to switch roles if Christine has an opinion on something and you don't really care as much :-)
hehe! do we know what your first ever comment was?
Bourdais, Franck, Smedly, etc
oh!
It's on my Wiki page, Valencia, I think
there's always that too.
the other day was a bit of an issue, because neither of us was bothered much about the points system changing to favour wins (and then back before we podcasted). what we should've done in hindsight was take a phonecall with someone who was mad as hell :)
ahh yes. shoulda known :)
Yes folks, Christine is THAT efficeint
REminds me of Jackie's Seven Signs page, can't find link right now.
I caught the SPC bug a few months before F1M was launched, I remember last year's pre-season podcast [Digest, I suppose] and as the season progressed I kept thinking, whilst hearing "join us in the comments" - I must do that.
No.5 Most Talkative these days! :)
(and slipping!)
i would say it's quality, not quantity. but you're over 1k's worth in 30 days. that's quantity!
-30% for drunk posting ;)
Is there a future in searching for a 'members' comments or does that bring us too close to a forum?
ahh, those are the quality!
:D
I remember those Red wine digests you know!
yup, and i really want to get into unlocking the info stored in the comments.
the only issues we have with forums is the need to log on and management of threads. searching is a must.
damnit!
I haven't drunk enough wine tonight.
What's wrong with loggin in?
If there can be a 'named but limited guest' role, what's the biggie?
Surely we are all quite used to that these days, we had to do it for the SidePodListener's map
have had a small amount. too much would mean missing fp3.
Is such a concept possible?
Is this one of those philosophical questions?
If a SidePodPerson falls over quietly during qualifying, will the stewards notice?
yeah, there is that. i found when doing mustcommentmonday, that i skipped all the blogs and forums that required an extra step of logging in. i know my name/email, i find it hard to remember which password i used where.
as a barrier to entry for new people, logging in is an issue.
*That wasn't a Kenny Loggins reference BTW*
hahah. two glasses this evening. no more.
ummm.... who?
2500 approx comments now forcing a DD restart
Shame on you
2,500? how long's it been running?
I agree. I'm on an on-style newsgroup, not only is it an NG but you need a login and password to access it. Result: no new regular members in a VERY long time.
old-style not on-style
01:54 April 1st
How have you done work, FP1&2, no sleep and now FP3&Qual?
Assuming you've done work, or do you take Fridays off?
uptime of 4 days? ouch.
http://video.google.co.uk/videosearch?q=Kenny+Loggins&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=R7fWSZ-HM8XF-QbB0rXKBQ&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&resnum=4&ct=title#
You or me?
always take friday's off during the season, make up the hours in the week.
can't miss free practice (did the same last year).
the ability to to jump into the comments is quite handy i think. there's an argument to say you could have unregistered and registered users, but then that becomes haves and havenots.
I can, quite easily... I guess if I started watching it I might find it hard to stop.
I tend to leave it unless I'm actually at the track, which has been all of once so far...
Have had better, got greater than 3500 lat week I think
Was getting quite unusable then though
the problem i find is watching the replays wouldn't be the same live commenting. in fact i doubt i could enjoy another f1 session again without comments. we sat at silverstone last year our laptops :)
My quandry is: stay up for FP3, sleep and record Quali
Or bed; now, [not likely] get up for live quali
my plan is to sleep shortly, and wake for fp3 qually. am getting into the swing of powernapping now that f1 is back.
Shhh you, am doing quite well unjustifying an Apple laptop purchase
If the rumoured netbook comes out, I'm there!
I'm writing my IndyCar preview on the blog. It's taken longer than I thought to do the posts I wanted to get done. I'm still planning to sleep as soon as I'm finished, thne come back at 8.55am for the BBC proggie.
sorry.
Hmm, hate to sleep, unfortunately - hate to wake even more
I'm still not quite into it yet for qual and race. It moves so quickly. The same problem I found with chatrooms 5 or so years ago when I tried that.
I'm gradually training myself though.
yeah. last year there were less people i think, and it was only manic occasionally. it's something to work on this year though.
Mr C's gonna hate this, but maybe we need a text voice
Ask Stephen Hawking, he's done a great job with your Digest intros
to read every comment? wow.
We'd never hear the commentary :D
BBC calendar plugin is invaluable still
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/malay-ical-jpg
that would be a bit crazy.
i'm thinking more of a variable speed option that lets you bring in new comments as fast as you choose. when nothings going on on track you can catch up again.
Time for fried egg sandwich pre-practice, I think
FORIX does that for all series:
http://forix.autosport.com/ch.php?l=0&d=999&r=200900&c=3
I like this idea.
I take back what I said earlier
Just saw "Already registered, login now" :(
:)
Oh sorry, I thought FORIX was free.
some harsh headlines:
http://axisofoversteer.blogspot.com/2009/04/ouch.html
S'ok, proved a point quite well I think
The competition get a load of that underbody
Wow... I'd heard that British press was harsh, but actually seeing it is another matter (not that I don't think he doesn't deserves at least some of that...)
that is some air!
it's not so much what's being written though, it's the absolute 180 the press have done in such a short space of time.
Yeah, that adds to the shock...
It's almost as bad as how quickly they turned on Kula Shaker ;)
i guess the other way of looking at it, is they'll love him again soon enough.
ha! with that though there was justification (of sorts), and they've never really been forgiven since.
hush!
:-)
:D
:D
Hello wedding special anyone
(where's my cringe smilie?)
Ha!
although actually you may be onto something there... hmm.
Don't you dare go putting that into my head
This is what I was referirng to earlier
Genius: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/The+seven+stages+of+a+sidepod+addiction
wow. who did all of that?
Jackie
very impressive.
Tattva:
http://www.last.fm/music/Kula+Shaker/_/Tattva
Can't stay awake much more so going to crash, see you for quals.
see ya.
omg, the white room!
What a show, second only to Gary Crowley's 'The Beat'
now that one i don't know?
Was very good, had lots of one off live performances in a proper venue - non-studio - curtesy of Fuji TV I think
I was an indie kid, I remember Ricky Gervais when he was a studio assistant on Xfm before they sold out to Capital Radio
Ha ha
Just looked at my 'recent stations' on Last fm
* Lily Allen Radio
* Michael Doughty Radio
* William Shatner Radio
* Air Radio
* Sea Sick Steve Radio
* Johnny Cash Radio
* Howling Bells Radio
* Silversun Pickups Radio
* Kings of Leon Radio
shatner?
Quality album with tongue firmly in cheek
Common People with Ben Folds
ahhh, ummm, we bought that one.
i forgot.
Is that the royal we?
Unforget: http://www.last.fm/music/William+Shatner/Has+Been
the sidepodcast chart is going to look very odd on sunday!!
Shall try to counteract with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoN6XfyQsr4
"Thall shall not judge a book by it's cover;
thall shall not judge Lethal Weapon by Danny Glover"
For The Parade Lap you mean? ;)
what a couplet :)
hehe. no!
When does it return, Barca or Bahrain?
barca. all european races, plus the championship decider i think.
Common People
http://www.last.fm/music/William+Shatner/Has+Been?autostart
sir, i must now sleep. i shalt return for fp3 :)
Peace out
night :)
*waves at quietness*
I have woken just in time!
Let us ignore that it's 4.30pm
haha :D
Have woken up and yet i won't even be watchomg FP3 or quali. Booo. :(
awesome. morning all!
Morning Mr C. did you get that milkshake in the end? :D
never did... and she doesn't remember :)
:D
I have been racking my brains and seem to recall the Russians weren't happy about making you a strawberry and banana milkshake. And I agree. Sounds gross.
Random movie comment:
I'm vaguely listening to a movie that Zoe is watching called Prime (on Channel 9). Not to be confused with the TV station called Prime.
Man says to woman "did you know you have 500 channels on this thing?"
Woman Laughs
Man "I just watched the Malaysian Grand Prix!"
The movie is not even on the Channel that has F1 in Australia. But, this channel (9), did have F1 for 20 years. Coincidence?
Afternoon all :) Woo for Jenson! :D LMFAO at Massa's epic fail :D
Sorry but...WTF?! :D
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/125318
*cough* you may wanna look back through the comments ;)
You know my laptop's broken and I've onyl been on the library computers 10 minutes. Gimme a chance! :P
:D ;)
oh by the way mr c, I bought f1 racing today and would you believe what i saw in it...
:P
do tell?
he knows ;) he was rather happy about it hehe
I've got it as well, great mag, not to keen on page 22, I mean who took that photo at the top? Poor.
:)
Shhhhh, I only just got him to shut up about it.
oh it was just a little ickle photo. i doubt you'll be too bothered. i think you mightve dabbled in it somehow, i dunno.
:D
:D
Damn :( still not got one
I've been thinking... are Brawn going to announce the Ray Bans sponsorship?... like officially... as they did with Henri Lloyd?
Has anyone read the Piquet interview in it? He doesn't seem very happy at renault. :S Although one moment he seems to admire Alonso yet the next moment he seems dismissive of him, it's a bit wierd reading..
Going on a magazine hunt .. see ya later
good luck!
yep, great interview :D
have fun!
Sidepodgame time....
http://www.formulajedi.net/jedichallenge.php
Yay. In sainsbury's got mag :)
w00t! Whatever you do, don't look at page 22!
or if you do....dont mention 'it' :D
9.60 fastest lap for me so far...
Too late:) tried to dropio from iPhone but am missing plugin
11.58, im struggling using just the arrow keys
You can email pics to sidepodcast@drop.io if that helps.
HOW?!?! i prefer hte other game :D
Best I can manage on that game is a 9.12...
Sorry Jon, but: Brawn success has old team's DNA
STOP USING THE EFFING DNA PHRASE WHEN DESCRIBING CARS!
It's not like the 2008 Honda mated with another car and gave birth to the Brawn, is it???????
:D
uh-oh, caps!
Might be.
Luke, let me know if you want to do Grid now or later. If you can't do it then don't worry. Let Evan know too if he's online, I can't get on msn thanks to a lame error. Gonna give this piece of crap a scan, might be a registry thing. And Scott if you're here, you can join us if you like.
Also, Buemi pit radio ftw.
You're anti-caps, sir!
Want a game now?
it can't. If you went to a nightclub looking for some 'action' and you walked in wearing a white shirt and lime green pants, would you get any?
Evening all. I heard the end of qualifying from the bath -great way to hear Jenson get pole again. Has Lou come down from the ceiling yet? ;)
I'm not going to wade through the comments...
Yeah sure. I wouldn't mind a bit of Fifa either tbh, but it's only half 8 so there's a decent amount of time unless you're busy later. I'll be on in a few minutes.
Assuming you mean trousers, sir.
I don't have pants on display in a nightclub.
Yeah saw that earlier.....
*ahem*
DON'T DO IT ROSS!! PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU!! TAKE IT BACK!! TAKE IT BACK!!!!!!!
whoops, a bit of Kiwi coming through there.
However, you wouldn't even get into a nightclubs with no troosers on, so my point still stands!
nope... it's quiet nice up here...we have milkshake and everything :D
If the person dressed as the earth was there, probably.
You would if you were a girl :)
can I come up there? I loooooooove milkshake :o
Unless Dom is a girl, point still stands...
Strawberry milkshake?
Oh be quiet. Its boring being in the middle. We have coke and pizza. About it.
yep, home made stawberry milkshake. damn those Russians putting the idea in my head :D
Just when I'd forgotten the horrors of those green pants/trousers.
I think 2009 is great for two reasons for that pit crew. Their car is winning, and they don't have to wear them anymore.
:D
I have pizza and beer.
did i mention i have lemon cupcakes too? :D
http://technology.todaysbigthing.com/2009/04/03
How cool are nursery rhymes to Techno???
You've never been to Brighton!
And I never will!
is it wrong my eyes instantly transfixed onto the word 'cupcakes?'
mmmmm... cupcakes.
Yay back home again
Just spotted this:
http://fiapenaltywatch.blogspot.com/
I wonder how big it'll be come Abu Dhabi!
No credit for photo?
Are they fluorescent coloured?
Awesome.
I have some sea-shell chocolates :D
Lewis speeded in the pit lane twice?
Didnt realise Lewwy speeded'd twice, silly boy
you win :)
erm... no....
yep cost him 12oo euro's each time. Glock and Heidfeld also got caught
Right....lets take a vote on it....i can't watch the race live tomorrow, so do i go and get nachos now whilst watching Quali on iplayer?? Yes or No?
He also didn't mind his P's and Q's.
Brilliant idea!
Will you enjoy it more with nacho's? .. if so then go get em
I like Nachos and i like F1....so theoretically i'll enjoy it more...however, i like Marmite and i love cheese....but the idea of them together repulses me
great minds think alike .. I've done that as well at my place
I have fudge cake!
I have 1 rocky chocolate bar
:(
I think Dom wins :D
yeah i agree :D
Not sure where it came from though...
Mystery fudge cake!
If I only have a little slice, nobody will notice...
This is like poker, I raise your cupcake and give you sea-shell chocolates etc
:D
You see the front cover of F1 Racing mag, kimi is standing there in baggy overalls looking very much like Ronald McDonald
These must be worth a lot then: http://www.flickr.com/photos/blempgorf/934223180/
Aww cute
Just spotted a petition regarding that episode of Eastenders that I have still not seen yet.
1) Is it really so bad?
2) How could they possibly change what they already showed?
How could anyone eat them!!?
:D
How can you bring people back from the dead?
how come we're on the quallie thread not the daily?
works for characters in LOST.
Well... they have done it before.
oops. we move.
Gah, stupid morrisons shutting hours with their wierd 9pm some times and 8pm other times!
no nachos im afraid...however i do have sweets instead (from the petrol station which is open longer) so not all bad news
Doing a few races on GRID on Xbox Live with Joe and in the first race, the race started then the game disqualified me. Instantly.
Are the FIA getting involved with video games now?
i'm over 'ere.
*waves*
This is true. They also famously changed Dallas after 6 months of storyline
heheh :-)
*waves back*
Are you in a silver car?
Watching Australia for the 2nd time, this time sans tiredness. It's about to expire on iPlayer, you've got 12 hours left.
What did you do?
Urm... start the race. You can't jump the lights or anything.
Did you lose connection?
Nope, just a very strange moment. :(
it's a very sad ending to that story line, but tbh.. it's not like she is the only popular character to ever die in a soap...
they can't ;)
Or so you've been told?
I didn't know she was even that popular.
whos she?
tbh i found her annoying.. but there you go...
yep... or so i've been told... :D
Bit wimpish, I reckon. Not that we watch it, of course.
:D yeah i agree. Nope... we have much better things to do with our time :D
I don't watch any soaps. Even gave up on The Archers
the non-stop, roller-coaster of emotions got to much for you?
what/how do people think the DC/Jordan relationship has developed since the last race? they seen less at each other which is good, hopefully they might agree a bit more :D
message for alia. just found a bunch of your comments from fp3 in the spam bin. apologies, hasn't happened in ages but i'll keep an eye on it during the race.
no idea why it would today happen though?
:D I think it was a combination of things. I keep meaning to read the summary pages to catch up. There's this great site that distills the storylines down to a line a day: www.lowfield.co.uk/archers/
I think she said she was on a portable device of some sort
They won't be able to do that till the Branson deal is done as he has the rights to the car. I am sure Ray Ban will be in there somewhere.
Why are some fines in Euros and some in dollars. Surelt it is not beyond the FIA to make a decision on one currency.
I would guess that it is down to the current exchange rate or something.
Probably the way some of them are reported. Say one news agency would change it from euros to dollars to help those people understand it more
Alianora on her blog is tracking which random checks the FIA are carrying out on each car over the course of the season.
Here is Jackie's version of the penalty tracker:

I can't see this appealing to anyone hear

Leggard said "theres Pat Fry on the mclaren pit wall"
who is this?!? Has he mixed up Pat Symons and Nick Fry?!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Fry
ta, never heard of him
He'll probably get sacked next time Mclaren make a mistake!
If they keep doing that, how long before Whitmarsh and Hamilton are the only people left at McLaren?
About 2 months.
:D
Massive day of racing tomorrow then, first one of the year.
The day starts with F1 and ends with IndyCar (unless you like NASCAR in which case you are weird). Other various sportscar/touring car things happening in between.
BTCC starts at Brands Hatch tomorrow. Yay.
Yup. I recommend the BTCC to all.
SO.VERY.EXCITED :D
Watched my 2007 BTCC DVD earlier, well i didnt watch it as such, but it was on in the background. I've missed it lots
I fully intend to be watching on itv.com.
One month until we get Freeview in this corner of rural Dorset...
Isn't Steve Ryder hosting? Hmm
Also, very gutted im not there, went to Thruxton year before last for BTCC got into pits and paddock, so much fun. And i love Brands, my favourite circuit for spectating
The afternoons of racing are back. :)
I've done that at Thruxton a few times, tempted this year but it clashes with the Bahrain GP.
ok so less excited about that, and i will miss Ted hosting....but the racing will be good...
I wonder how much Steve dosent know about it....
Great going into the pits. Very busy, too busy when its wet though
I wonder how much long-time bigshot sports anchor Steve likes covering relatively minor racing on smalltime channel ITV4.
BTCC coverage is awesome because they show all the support races too. Last season you could sit in front of the TV from 12.30 to 5.30 just watching racing, and ITV are showing more racing this year :D Wooo
really really wish i knew about BTCC... and everything.... brands is literally 40 mins away...
Saw Ted last year, was under the umberlla. Lets be honest, the studio isn't that much
Start... nnnnnow.
I love walking around the backs of garages watching them, and love watching the support race teams doing their thing in the paddock too :)
Watch it tomorrow. I'm sure you know more than Steve. :)
ITV4, generally on the weekends that F1 isnt, (although not this weekend) its amazing, the racing is non stop
hehe :) At least there are no "banana cars" to confuse him. :P
Steve?! and in Steve, the guy i thought i would never ever get to see or hear again?
There isn't a lot to know. I treat it as a motorsport hamburger, if F1 is the steak.
Its awesome. Brilliantly exciting.
Yes, I'm sorry. It's more than worth putting up with though. :)
*especially* at Brands Indy.
Like a touring car oval race.
yes....regretably
Lou, good website if you wanna start the watching
http://www.btccpages.com/
Have you ever been to a track?
okay i'll give it a try tomorrow if someone reminds me :)
This is a good question to ask.
BTCC is a brilliant introduction to attending a motorsport event.
Brands is easily the best spectator circuit in the UK, you can see all corners from most places around the track. ITS GREAT!!!
I'm planning to live comment it ;)
We'll probably end up live commenting it.
do it :D
yes. i've been to brands twice when i was younger... to see BTCC. No jokes.. i used to love it when i was younger, as i loved formula 1. didn't have a clue what was going on.. but i loved it.
:D
I'll be here too :-)
Will be pottering about the house cleaning etc during the supports, will be here for TCs.
And I'll be here for IRL if anyone can fix me a feed to watch.
i think thats the best bit around national motorsport, you dont have to know anything about it, you can just watch and enjoy :)
Knockhill is the same albeit a long way from Brands.
Never heard of the drivers before, but man are they insane
Good to see there are so many BTCC fans around. :)
yeah, a tad far away for me though, i'd like to go one day though
Contact is encouraged :D
You should try a normal club race meeting when there is not a big crowd and you can get to poke about in areas you won't be allowed in for BTCC etc.
The cars are built like Brawn GP cars :D
i was honestly fascinated by it when i was younger. i just loved motorsports. But never ever understood it. not really, obviously i knew the guy who finishes first usually wins... but that was about it...
I've been to Knockhill, and to Brands.
Yep - completely different atmosphere too.
club meets you dont have to pay for grand stands at brands, and you get to go into the paddock, tis awesome. and they're really friendly
Croft is more, get there early otherwise your going to be limited access. Its great talking to the marshalls though.
'Are you just standing there laughin while we dry the track?' he said with a smile. Nice guy.
It has its own little micro-climate. Horizontal rain and mist.
SO you had never heard of FIA stewards then if you thought the finishing order was the result.
:D
christine's latest:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/04/f1-digest-2009-malaysia-qualifying/
enjoy!
yeah i'd watch the race and then not think the result would change after the chequered flag fell (crazy i know)... tbh i don't think i knew which driver was which... through out my childhood while watching f1 all i knew was Mika Hakkinen drove for a team called Mclaren, there was a driver with a surname of Berger - which i found hilarious for some reason, that there was a driver called DC (i had no idea why) and that Michael Schumacher was a pretty good driver, and drove for a red team called Ferrari.
in the summer i might just do that.. :)
i think when most people think of motorsport they think of F1, but really we are so lucky in the UK, we have the best and most varied motorsport scene in the world!! we see F1 and its a 'look but dotn touch' feeling....
but go to club racing and BTCC/GT and you just watch and feel like a kid all over again
properly cheap too, £12 generally.
There's another round at Brands Hatch to close the BTCC season.
Oh yeah, the amount of times I called him Shoe Maker. Ahh, young times. Also remember remembering Wurz for some reason as well
I would promote hte Formula Ford Festival to anyone, mid october, really good racing, open paddock and grandstands. :D
went last year, was just great, plus my uncle used to race caterhams so we talked to lots of people too :D
Lou, Brands Hatch, 15th September 2 day meeting
This is a 2 day meeting featuring:
Drivers Republic Caterham Roadsport A Championship (DH)
Drivers Republic Caterham Roadsport B Championship (DH)
Metro Caterham Race Academy Championship
BRSCC Club Formula Ford MS Championship (DH)
BRSCC LMA Euro Saloons & Sports Car Championship (DH)
BRSCC Mighty Mini Championship
BRSCC Super Mighty Mini Championship
Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship (DH)
BRSCC alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship (DH)
Lewis-Evans Trophy/500 OA Formula Junior (DH)
BRSCC Formula Jedi Championship (DH)
Really varied, you'd love it!
We just get the BTCC and the Superbikes, which also start soon
You can't beat a day in the sun with engine noise bouncing off the scenerey and the smell of hot engines and a bit of racing thrown in.
Its a real shame Croft has got noise restrictions, Thruxton does too. 2 of hte best circuits in the UK
That's at Brands, isn't it?
Yepp
Summer ain't always great, still can bucket down, really bucket down
Especially if it's Wimbledon time.
Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what Carlos are/is? As either they are sponsoring Rubens, or he supports them in some way...
Formula Fords, Super 2000 (le mans type but older), a few diff Ford Championships and Club Formula 3
See my earlier comment about the Knockhill micro-climate. We had snow in June a few years ago.
Two ways of showing that
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj263/Gaulty94/P6010127.jpg?t=1238881833
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj263/Gaulty94/P6010126.jpg?t=1238881878
In the second one he is using a safety car sign to get rid of the water
that added to the enjoyment of taking photos would make a perfect day for me :)
The wettest I've ever been was at BTCC at Knockhill in 2005. Crazy.
15th september?.... i'd have to see closer to the time (i'm really not capable of planning that far in advance) but i'll certainly think about it :D
The best places for Photos are Druids (the hairpin) as you can get on the inside of the track with no big barriers, and along the south bank too
I took a punt on it having the Brazilian domain. It does http://www.caras.com.br/
At Croft the race was stopped four laps in because Tower Bend was like the first corner of the Nururgring in 2007
I forget where it was we had the red flag brought out twice because of rain last year... Croft?
Beat me to it.
Aye. Raced stopped because a marshal got injured I believe. Nasty crash.
Croft racing took ages to get started in the BTCC last year, lots of rain
Yep. They cut away from that accident on the TV though. You just knew it was going to end badly...
A few piccies, for obvious reasons I didn't take very many.
but what is it? some kinda Brazilian version of OK or hello magazine?... and why would they be on Rubens helmet....
I remember the TV coverage!
I've got the prog still, I think one support race was cancelled as well as the drivers parade. Getting out of the car park was unbelievable fun as well
Like in the GP2 race where senna hit the dog! They cut just as he hit it, not nice
Brands calendar etc https://tickets.motorsportvision.co.uk/calendar/search.asp?circuit=bh&type=all&grade=0
Dare i say it....Club Bike Meetings are also very good, but if your like me and don't really know what the difference is (apart from size) it can get a bit boring and not varied
I was on the infield just before the corner, cars were simply going all over the place there, once one went off it didn't surprise me that another followed.
Exactly what I thought. Hello/OK. They must be a personal sponsor. I assume with the teams having no sponsors and the drivers being on reduced contracts they were allowed to sell space on their helmets.
ooh right :D okay, thanks. it's been something that i've seen flashes off these past 2 weekends but have only just found a pic of, and i've been wondering what on earth it is. lol
I only went to one motor bike meeting ever and had to leave. I was in a constant state of panic that someone was going to get killed. Ridiculous as I have crashed the odd racing car myself and not been even slightly emotional about it for a second but I just couldn't watch bike racing at the track.
I noticed you mentioned it in Aus and I saw it when you mentioned it this morning but I hadn't seen a close up of his helmet since.
Right, better hit the hay. I'll catch you all for the BBC coverage and if I'm lucky, the start. Ciao
see ya
See ya RG.
'Me' has been very quiet tonight?
Night.
I'm checking out how much I won on my Paddy Power bet last week. £3 on Rubens each way at 5-1. I thought I'd get a decent return but was only credited £3.38. I'm not convinced I'll ever get my head around betting.
night RG
he has been all day... then again he has been sleeping..
Oh it looks like they took 1.50 to win and 1.50 for 2nd/3rd.. anyway.
hi. very busy, sorting server issues. will talk about it more on tomorrow's show, but i've been working hard since wednesday evening and i'm still going now.
apologies, back to normal next week.
I'm worried by how many comments he must be saving up for the race!
ahahaha they captured the moment Kimi realised he looks stupid in that oversized hat! :D
If you bet £3 in total, that's right as an each way bet is two separate bets.
:D
I think he is trying to contact the Russians.
But it should be £1.50 for the win and £1.50 on 1st, 2nd, 3rd
So if you win both halves pay.
Ta. Taking the same again as he's 12-1. I know he's a few places back but with their speed...
Except I've done £4 total.
You work too hard for us. :)
So £2 for the win, £2 for a place.
But we do appreciate it :)
Yep. I'm not entirely sure what I'll get for a 2nd or 3rd but as long I cover the stake I'm happy, just small numbers for a laugh.
Very much so!
Absolutely!
Yep Yepp Yeppp :D
no probs peeps. it's the good kind of problem. we have too many viewers/listeners and the bandwidth is getting out of hand. moving all sorts of stuff, all over the place to solve the issue, but can't complain cause it's better than no-one downloading :)
seconded :)
The trackside commentators in Melbourne kept calling him "hip hop Kimi" because apparently that is a "hip hop hat"
:D
Episode 100 finally appeared in iTunes :)
it was there, but i accidentally removed it last night, sorry. just sorting it all out now.
Ah, that explains it. Thanks for sorting it out, I was beginning to think I'd have to download it directly.
Good morning from Kuala Lumpur! :)
VERY good day yesterday, even if the race organizers tried to ruin it... :D
huge crowds at the track I see! ;)
journeyer!!
Morning Journeyer! :D I'm glad you had a good day :) was it very full? grandstand wise?
Hey Journeyer. :)
you lucky bizzum :P .. I don't really envy you cause of the heat .. but still
Very full? Let me put in perspective - we were right in front of the podium, as it turned out, yet during quali, there was no one to our left, our right, or in front of us. James Allen's tweet on crowd estimates is pretty much spot-on.
Ferrari also cut their autograph session short, leaving me in the cold. Letting those behind me past was a gamble, but it worked - instead of getting 2 Toyota autographs, I got a total of 4 autographs from RBR and Brawn. ;)
wow. awesome seats then.. :)
you saw Rubens and Jenson?! up close!... *turns green with envy * ;)
Aww poor Lou
;)
RIght, time for bed, will be watching the race in the morning, so see you in the live comments. I'm going to listen to "Joe's Judgements"
Night Andy
nice title! lol. night
night andy.
Yup, even got to Jenson for a couple of seconds. Asked him if he was gonna win his weekend. He said, "let's hope so." He was beaming compared to the Red Bull boys. :)
Thanks - they did say they wanted something without the letter S or with F1 in it.
you SPOKE to....
........!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lou just exploded
Erm... yes? :D It wasn't much, to be honest, just something typical of a fan to ask, but hey, he was the only one who replied to me. :)
:D You MUST go to Silverstone this year and line up at their autograph session. ;)
And surely he'll be at Goodwood.
True... not sure if they have an autograph session, though. I'm sure they'll have one at Silverstone - they require the drivers to go to them... or try to anyway. ;)
but... but.... what would i say?... who would stop me falling to the floor?....
lol plus i checked out the price of a ticket to silverstone... it's sooooo much money. Which makes me amazed that James Allen tweeted that a student ticket to the race tomorrow was about £10...
he might even make it back down the hull this year ;)
*hill
damnit
he was at goodwood last year... i just went on the wrong day :( i saw Mr and Mrs C though :D which was awesome.
I'm wanting to go for at least 2 days this year so i may catch him then, but honestly i've no idea what i'd say... or if i would be able to walk...
They're the cheapest Grand Prix tickets you'll ever find. ;) Heck, Petronas even got some people to come and fill the seats.
I'd like to go for two days. I went for one day each in 2002 and 2003.
I froze when Murray Walker signed his book for me. I had no idea what to say, so I didn't. I stood there shaking. Fool. He was the first 'famous person' I'd ever seen.
he was in the crowd on the Saturday... not in the car... and yes, he may actually make it down the hill.... providing whoever drives the car on the other days doesn't ruin one of the gears again. lol
Lining up for his autograph will already be quite the task. We had to wait 3 hours just to get his siggie - and that was after Ferrari bailed! Got a bit lucky, to be honest. ;)
(Murray's book signing wasn't at Goodwood, it was in Dorchester)
for free?! wow....
Any advice on accommodation? I'm considering a trip in 2010 :D
Bernie keeps going to new places that can't fill seats and yet he threatens that the sell-out British GP that it'll be lost if Donington fail to deliver. He's nuts
Sure looks like it - and this was in OUR section, for crying our loud! They were positioned in front of Rows 4-5 of the grid. Mind you, they'll probably try to sell those seats tomorrow. But the fact that those very good seats haven't been sold already tells you something.
Right I'm off to bed. Journeyer, hope you have a fantastic time later.
the first famous motorsport related person i've seen was Peter Solberg at Goodwood... and he was a long way away... lol i didn't really know who he was, i just recognised the name :P so i took a couple of pics anyway. i think i saw a brief glimpse of steve ryder on a golf buggy kinda thing, i was with Mr and Mrs C at the time, and i just remember Mrs C pointing him out as he speed past and then Mr C disappearing to try and get a photo. :D
Abso-lute-ly! :) Will do. ;)
night Jackie
ugh screwed that up!
The first motorsport person I ever saw in person was Jarno Trulli. It was a kind of 'oh my god they DO exist' moment
If it's your first time, stay in KL - Crown Regency is a good place to stay, especially if you have companions. Near the party spots too. ;)
:D :D
I saw Trulli too, but I decided not to get his signature and hope that I read the time for Brawn's session correctly. ;)
I'm just trying work out if I was telling porkies. When was Murray's book out? He's definitely the first I had 'contact' with but I probably actually saw others before then.
How much does a place like that cost for the weekend?
I've never been there and I'd be going on my own, is KL easy to handle? Is transport to the circuit easy? Singapore was, and that was my first time out of New Zealand/Australia,
Depending on flight costs I think I'll be there - the tickets are too cheap to resist.
After the Mario and Robert picture I put up earlier.. Just been flickign through the Sky Movie channels - Oh look - Rocky Horror Picture Show. :D
STOP! NO! NO! PLEASE NO! NO! NO!
hehe
It's...
Just a jump to the left!
We're staying at a room for 5, and it's 100 pounds a night. So if you're the only one going, I think it's around 40-50 pounds a night? Thereabouts.
Transport to the circuit is VERY easy. We took the Monorail from the hotel to KL Sentral Train Station, then took the KLIA Transit train to the airport. From there, you take a shuttle bus to the circuit. It's pretty straightforward, and the whole package costs 20 pounds for all 3 days.
It's all so cheap! Hopefully airfares continue to get cheaper and I can go back to being a 2-race per season person :)
It continues to amaze me at how cheap stuff is in and around Asia...
today i was looking at Formula Ford Campus racing (like normal FF but with wings), in the UK a season of FF racing is an easy £90,000 - £100,000
In the Asian series? £12,000. thats just staggering!
Yep, VERY cheap. We saw a LOT of Europeans here - they seemed to be loving it all, despite the heat. :)
Yup - they're cheap because the standard of living here is relatively low. How much stuff cost around here reflects that.
Everyone I saw in Singapore was European as well, although that wasn't cheap by any means.
haha! true, true. :D I'd expect there will be less of them this year, though.
You guys are turning me nocturnal....
I think its sleepy time, however, i'm quite excited about today :D s'gonna be good!
We claim another one ;)
No surprise, there. It's gotten a bit quiet, though. ;)
Oh yeah! :D Good night, Jon. :)
what be your plans for today journeyer?
I'm re-watching Rocky Horros for the umpteenth time. Love it. :D
Rocky Horror even.
Must look at what I type instead of the TV. :D
Stay in all morning - my dad has friends here, so he'll be having breakfast with them. Then we'll have early lunch - we're thinking if we'll go to Lewis' PR appearance at the Mercedes-Benz stand at 1:30. If not, we'll probably leave KL at 1 PM. It takes 90 minutes to go to Sepang, so we'll be there just before 3. Drivers parade is at 3:30, then we settle down, sit and wait for the race. :) There's a Jamiroquai concert tonight, but we'll probably skip that and just go home to get some rest. :D
And if this connection holds up, I might... just might... watch the Debrief tonight. If not, I'll leave a message. :)
sounds like a fine plan. how you gotten drenched yet?
blimey, that would be impressive :)
YES. And in that regard, Sepang's organization is dreadful. If I do a write-up, I'll go into detail about that. ;)
:D
next you're going to tell us you throw popcorn around and get dressed up!
Hahaha! Yeah, I know - that would be impressive, considering this connection and my sleep! :) If it works out, I'll call in during the show. :)
sorry, shouldn't have mentioned it!
what's the weather at the moment?
Errrr....
Ummmm....
Not for the film. ;)
Do you have any idea how hard it is to get size 12 high heels?
dont they usually run out of water?
excellent!
Glorious sunshine... sun rising very nicely. ;) But when it rains here, it's like a storm hit town! But the folks around here are used to it - those riding motorcycles don't even stop for rain!
oddly i don't!
What time will the debrief be? :)
7pm our time. which i'm guessing is very late for you?
Was well worth it though. Last time I saw the stage show it was Jason Donavan playing Dr Frank N Furter
He looked far too comfortable in the stocking and heels. ;)
KL is in the same timezone as Manila, so that would still be 2 AM. Late enough for me to stay up... maybe. We shall see. ;)
there is no such thing as too late, it is 9.52am here, plus I had to put my clock back an hour at 3am, and I haven't been to bed yet.
I've become so nocturnal my plan is to stay up all day and go to bed at a reasonable time tonight.
will do our best to start on time!
f1 has wrecked our body clocks.
and the fly away races are at correct times for me!
problem is all the interesting discussion goes on while I should be sleeping and I don't want to miss out :D
Just.... WHY? Record the damn thing!
Am gonna get some sleep. See you all in a few hours. :)
Have fun Journeyer!
Oh that's why :-)
i can imagine that's an issue. right about now all the journalists should be heading towards the track. the news starts about now.
see ya dom.
Will do, Dom! :)
Well, maybe not right now - not much going on this early in the day. Maybe in another 2 hours.
part-timers :D
I need a job in Asia. Quite fancy a season of that
I just won the 1986 BATracer championship by finishing in fifth. I dread to think what rules they will introduce for 87 because of that. Still it was the second last race so maybe not as bad.
:D
go you!
I hope you have a great time at the race Journeyer! I'm off to bed now, i'll hopefully be back in time for the race, but knowing my luck i'll sleep through it or something, just cause it's the first one at a reasonable time ;) night all x
me too, have a good one journeyer. night lou, night all.
Good night to both of you.
Have a great time at the race Journeyer.
