We're heading straight into the Malaysian GP weekend now, with Free Practice already under our belts. Having stayed up the majority of the night to watch it, I can safely say I'm tired! However, I can't wait for the action to get going again. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about:

  • We caught up with Joe for a quick chat before he headed off to the circuit for Free Practice. You can listen to the show here, and enjoy Joe's thoughts on the penalties we've seen, plus how the first race was in terms of KERS, excitement, and drivers. We also mull over the prospects for Malaysia.
  • It's emerged that the newly appointed Sporting Director of McLaren - Dave Ryan - could be leaving the team - with rumours of a suspension. Nothing has been confirmed, of course, but this must be in relation to the Hamilton disqualification. Seems a bit harsh to me, but what do you guys think?
  • BMW are joining in the diffuser row again. Having missed the original protest due to misfiled documents, they have written to the FIA to ask if they can get in on the action and turn up to the hearing on the 14th. I wonder what they've got to say that they want so desperately to be heard, that the other teams wouldn't have said?

That'll do it for now, keep your comments coming, as they will get us through the day as we recover from a late one. Feel free to discuss whatever's on your mind, news, predictions, thoughts for the upcoming race, and I'll see you in the comments.

BMW still want to get involved in the diffuser debate? This could be interesting... ...or completely pointless.

Now you've seen the two free practice sessions, don't forget about Fantasy Racers.

All selections will be frozen at 03 Apr 2009 16:00 GMT so make sure your lineup is finalised before this time.

I did really bad last week, and think I might put some effort into changing my team around today.

If thats true, no wonder he got suspended from the team.

I shall be awaiting the full transcript!

James Allen on the press conference: http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/whitmarsh-admits-team-told-lewis-to-lie/

So Whitmarsh might be reconsidering his position in the team, Ryan has bassically been sacked and Lewis will be saying sorry in about an hour...

    ...wow.

Do you think he is itching to come back and sort things out, or just glad he's well out of it?

Interesting post about the international media reaction to this story from James - http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/how-the-world-views-the-hamilton-affair/

Spain is included, but unsurprisingly the harshest comments come from the UK...

Read the James Allen post so I don't copy and paste the whole thing. It's incredible. I love his blog, but got sick of his commentating. odd. partial quote below..

Speaking to a packed media centre, Whitmarsh said that this matter did not go any higher in the McLaren organisation and that he was not consulted before Ryan and Hamilton went to the stewards,

so Whitmarsh has cleared himself. smart move. a new conspiracy has begun. shame. at least the mclaren car is nowhere close to the front of the field (at this stage) so it won't look like they've cost themselves a championship. (yes i know the first two races aren't totally indicative but I'm ready to write them off)

  • Stuart C03/04/2009 at 09:42

Ironically, McLaren's own wallah in charge of comms used to describe this sort of thing as "anus protectus"...

Again, Mclaren involved in a dishonesty scandal and the boss washes his hands of the affair...

Stewards meetings are not minuted but this whole thing is about who said what to the stewards of which there is no record. Amateur hour strikes again.

Stewards meetings are not minuted but this whole thing is about who said what to the stewards of which there is no record. Amateur hour strikes again.

There's no record, but both sides are saying the same thing, so you've got to think it's true.

  • Dom03/04/2009 at 09:46

Stewards meetings are not minuted but this whole thing is about who said what to the stewards of which there is no record. Amateur hour strikes again.

Why would McLaren admit to it if it didn't happen?

  • Steven Roy03/04/2009 at 09:48

Why would McLaren admit to it if it didn’t happen?

I am not saying it didn't happen. It just seems odd that the stewards of one meeting have raised this and it is being dealtt by the stewards of another meeting with no record of the original proceedings. It is all the more ridiculous because the stewards of the first meeting did not review the data from the ECUs and radios which was available to them.

unsurprisingly the harshest comments come from the UK

...Led by the Daily Mail, of course. Amusing, eh, that a paper with such a devout moral compass and sense of values should be edited by a man who is infamous for his regular deployment of a word that begins with 'c', ends with 't', and rhymes with 'shunt'?

Interesting stuff about Alonso. Apparently he did fewer runs because he is suffering from an ear infection.

Sometimes ear infections can affect your balance. That sounds like a difficult thing to contend with if you are going round corners at several Gs

Unlikely as they only promoted him during the winter with a big fanfare in the press and the guy has been with the team for 35 years.

  • Lukeh03/04/2009 at 10:01

More updates now from James Alen

  • Steven Roy03/04/2009 at 10:03

Interesting stuff about Alonso. Apparently he did fewer runs because he is suffering from an ear infection.

That was covered before practise on some sites. Apparently he was excused press conferences, drivers briefings etc to help him recover. I can't help thinking that 70% humiditiy is not going to help an ear infection.

Hamilton in Q&A with Autosport onMarch 31:

"I saw a photo of the podium on the internet this morning - he (Button) looked really, really happy. They've shown just what an incredible sport we have and just how unpredictable F1 can be - I just wish I could have been on the podium to share his celebrations on Sunday."

I think now he is glad he was not there ...

What's perhaps worse is the sentence just before that one:

Every time I have been informed to do something I have done it.

Which journalists will be following up with, "Can you talk about the other times the team have told you to say something to the stewards that was untrue"?

  • F1Wolf03/04/2009 at 10:51

Well, I do not know, but a guy with such a position as Hamilton surely has within McLaren should have enough courage to stand up to "a senior member" of his team, especially if he claims he is not a dishonest person or a liar... I do understand that sometime things are done without thinking and in the heat of the moment, but both Hamilton and McLaren had enough time to rectify the situation before FIA decided to re-open the case. They haven't done so, instead they decided to celebrate the unexpected podium, regretting they could not stand on it while someone else received unfair 25 sec penalty thanks to their actions …

  • Amy03/04/2009 at 10:52

Considering the "Hamilton is McLaren's PR Puppet" argument has been around since day one, he stands no chance of ever getting rid of that title.

Looks like James is thinking along similar lines:

Hamilton and Ryan have been in the stewards’ room together on many occasions over the past two years and the only thing we didn’t get the chance to ask today is whether this is the first time Ryan ‘instructed’ Hamilton to lie. I’m sure that the FIA will consider this when the world council look at the situation.

I like this quote from James Allen's Blog about McLaren:

"Instead they have managed to create Watergate out of the smallest of issues and, just as in Watergate, it’s the cover up that gets you in trouble."

What are you doing to me McLaren? This hurts! I'm still a fan, but I'm seriously disappointed.

I feel like we have the truth now. But, a little part of me is skeptical. Do we really know everything?

Why? Why? Why? Why didn't Lewis just stay ahead of Trulli? He fell off the track!

  • Lukeh03/04/2009 at 11:20

Well, that's sorted that out then.

Has anyone asked Lewis if he slowed for the purpose of letting Trulli past, or for another reason?

I note that Trulli's account of what happened is also rather suspect. However let's not dwell on that then there is a good witch hunt to be had....

  • Alex Andronov03/04/2009 at 11:23

The Gearbox does seem to be the weak link in that car. They had to change fourth gear in Jenson's car last weekend.

The thing that has come out of this… and this is not to defend anything or anyone but is how little the drivers actually know about what is going on at the time that they are out there driving.

What's come out of this is that the stewards don't actually investigate properly. They asked Trulli for his version. Then they asked McLaren for their version. They clearly conflicted but rather than actually looking at the evidence, they assumed it was Trulli who was lying. If they wanted to know if Hamilton was told to let Trulli by why not just listen to the radio chat?

How many other bad decisions have been down to relying entirely on what the drivers' said?

Vettel seems to have dropped himself in it last week by being too honest.

The Massa-Bourdais incident last year seems to have relied heavily on Massa's interpretation.

I agree. I think it should have been a racing incident. He was foolish, but both drivers were. they played hard, but that's what happens. Schumacher vs Hill taught us that.

What’s come out of this is that the stewards don’t actually investigate properly.

If they wanted to know if Hamilton was told to let Trulli by why not just listen to the radio chat?

Just shows how incompetent the stewards are. They have radio traffic and they have ECU data and they have video. They almost don't need to interview the drivers.

Agreed. Maybe Ferrari are trying to get an italian driver to the front, because the italian car isn't likely to. Smoke in the cockpit is never a good sign....

He did. That is not disputed by anyone. Lewis was supposed to let Alonso through but decided against it. He rattled Alonso. It was good tactics by him because he was trying to get under Alonso's skin. He just didn't expect the repercussions.

A petard was a bomb that you would carry and throw (rather like a grenade I guess). And if you didn't throw it fast enough then you'd get blown up by your own bomb.

But these days it means essentially getting caught out doing something you've accused others of doing previously. Mainly in an allegedly humorous way.

  • me03/04/2009 at 13:18

This is pre-Gavin days, so I would appreciate a quick summary of opinion here…

    it's not that.

alonso was saying last year that we didn't know the whole truth (or even half of it). am going to have to find a quote, but today's comments re-cast that whole episode in a new light.

it appears that the team cannot necessarily be trusted, but there's no specific evidence to suggest the same for alonso. also makes me ask questions about honest ron and spygate.

Alonso was very unfairly treated by the team in 2007. It doesn't necessarily excuse his actions, but he expected something from the team, didn't get it and chose Hungary to make a statement.

don't think I get that one. I get enough. I'm not complaining - i just have a digital box for the free broadcasts...which by the way doesn't give me anything extra on F1 coverage. the red dot just opens up the televideo/teletext. the private tv networks (owned in part by the prime minister) does a much better job on their network with interactive features, but they don't have F1. sigh.

well....actually its faster than riding uphill....so maybe less safe....

#1 - I'm not as fit as i used to be....

#2 - Riding downhill....means riding up the hill in the first place...

It had some interesting bits of info about the website in it though. Firstly they confirmed what we already knew in that they are developing the website as they go, and this is only really a temperary one. They say the new one will be launched soon.

They also include information on their new merchandise store, which will be coming soon. There will be an interim collection while they develop the full range ready for the British GP.

    MALAYSIA FRIDAY QUOTE FOR CHRISTINE

Remember those Spanish people at work that swore at me for supporting Lewis Hamilton? Well guess what? They've been hassling me all day about him but even I can't defend him this time :-(

Interesting to see the first KERS failure to cause a car stop on track - I thought that if KERS failed the car could keep running, but evidently not. Anyways, I'm looking forward to a good weekend of action and I have my fingers crossed for a wet race as they are always exciting!

  • Rich03/04/2009 at 17:09

Yesterday I ranted at Macca and the deceit that surrounded the entire incident with Trulli. In particular I singled out Whitmarsh in one article I used entitled ...

Whitmarsh - we didn’t lie about Trulli incident

Basically the comments made by Whitmarsh amounted to tactics of diversion, euphemism and disjointing factual information - this is termed B------T.

Now I see an article entitled

Whitmarsh admits team told Lewis to lie

McLaren have suspended their sporting director and a company employee of some 35 years Dave Ryan. This is how James Allen described Dave...

Ryan was a commanding presence at the team, a real disciplinarian. He will not be missed by some members of the team to whom he gave a hard time, but his discipline might well be missed.

In the meantime Lewis has made a public apology.

Hamilton makes sure the world knows he’s sorry

Firstly, I am going to say Lewis has had a rough time with the press. He almost certainly was doing as "instructed" by the team in the name of being a "teamplayer". It does seem, however, that by their own admissions they have been a bit economical with the truth in the past (with Alonso adding his own ammunition).

Here is what I do not understand after the Trulli incident Lewis gives what has been subsequently verified an accurate description and stated that he thought that he deserved third place (I agree Trulli fell off the circuit). Then he (Lewis) is summoned to meet with the stewards to discuss Trulli's overtaking. Surely the Macca team would have briefed him on what to say immediately before? I cannot believe that he and Dave Ryan then decided to "lie" as their own pact. Another issue I cannot understand is why either minutes are not taken by the FIA or they get the person(s) concerned to sign A sworn statement. This is unprofessional. Then when the FIA further look into the matter (after Toyota released their race transmissions) Whitmarsh tells everyone they never lied only to have to retract his statement (I think that is lying or close to it). Again surely after the discussion with the stewards did Lewis and Dave not have to report back to Whitmarsh?

I can only conclude the McLaren management is unbelievably incompetent or Dave Ryan was little more than the scapegoat as Whitmarsh attempts a damage limitation exercise.

If I were Lewis I would be looking for another team to drive next year, even if not as successful in wins and points it might be a way to regain lost credibility. Personally I do feel sorry for him as he almost certainly caught up in team politics. Which team would be best for him? I actually thing Red Bull might be the right team with a good car.

The titles used above all come from James Allen's website

    http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/

any thoughts on spygate in light of today’s revelations?

Firstly I think we have not heard the last of the Trulli Lewis saga. I suspect (and hope) Lewis has no further penalties. The team might end up getting another large large fine. The danger is that Mercedes will get fed up with this bad publicity. Since the Brawn looks competitive they might well ditch Macca. If I was Martin I would be extra cautious in the next few races. One final point it appears that Macca did indeed instigate the entire process to get the results changed in the fist place. A lot of people were critical of the FIA changing the results a few days after the race (on various blogs), but the same people did not complain when the results were initially changed to favour Macca and were calling for results to stand when the awards are given.

  • me03/04/2009 at 19:15

fair enough, but i was interested in how you thought the weekends revalations reflected on previous mclaren transgressions.

  • Steven Roy03/04/2009 at 19:26

as bad a rap as the stewards get, they called it spot on this week, didn’t they?

No. Trulli threw his car of the road under yellow flags. That is a serious safety issue.

  • Flibster03/04/2009 at 19:26

The danger is that Mercedes will get fed up with this bad publicity. Since the Brawn looks competitive they might well ditch Macca. If I was Martin I would be extra cautious in the next few races.

I doubt it. Mercedes have too much to lose. They would have to offload their 40% *i think* stake in McLaren to start with.

4 Championships with them as well.

I doubt it. Mercedes have too much to lose. They would have to offload their 40% *i think* stake in McLaren to start with.

Mercedes own 40% of McLaren and there are the road car programs to consider. They are committed to each other.

  • Rich03/04/2009 at 19:44

fair enough, but i was interested in how you thought the weekends revalations reflected on previous mclaren transgressions.

Well obviously the FIA will scrutinise Macca activities a bit more closely since there is now an established culture of cheating (in various forms). I had hoped that Martin would have provided something of a fresh start. If you compare Macca with Renault their knee-jerk reaction is ALWAYS to initially deny and release statements with lots of BS. Actually this is surprising because Flavio is something of a BSer. Nevertheless Renault managed their espionage issues rather better than Macca. Last week Toyota got into hot water, but they acknowledged and addressed the issue to huge effect in the end. I think Macca needs to get better spin doctors - it is more than Matt Bishop can cope with. I think Macca fans will find quite a bit to complain if Macca continue to lodge lots of complaints - possibly they have learnt as this one back-fired spectacularly on them. It is also sad that Macca have learnt from Ferrari to use the boardrooms to gain positions and wins. One thing the FIA might have to do is to reconsider the number of penalties - the Vettel one is ridiculous (neither driver should get one even Ecclestone has stated this). Finally I would like to see Red Bull, Toyota, Nick Heidfeld and Mark Webber get some wins for variety.

  • Joe03/04/2009 at 19:45

Yes I think it is 40%, it can be sold off rather more easily than Honda in dumping its F1 operation. The Mercedes Board will not like this controversy so soon after 2007. Remember Mercedes split with Chrysler and that was a fast transaction (Fiat are now poised for 35% stake).

Brawn's connection with Virgin and the clean F1 fuel it (Virgin) has developed is an attractive proposition for a Big Motor Manufacturer. Honda's Earth Dreams are being replaced with Virgin's Earth Realities.

In terms of reputations though, both have been damaged, but by the end of the year it'll all be forgotten about. Unless something else serious happens.

Agreed. Given everything that happened in 2007, Alonso and De La Rosa came out of it okay. As in, they're not often mentioned in relation to it all. Hamilton though, who wasn't nearly as involved, is still being mentioned in the same breath.

Part of the reason is better management of Alonso. PDLR isn't in the media's attention enough, so that's how he probably 'gets away' with it.

  • Fiox03/04/2009 at 20:25

I'm honestly curious as to why LewHam is punished and not just his team who is the one who is really at fault for the entire situation.

    e.g. LewHam pts = 5

    Mclaren pts = 0

    toyota pts = 11

    trulli pts = 6

    glock pts = 4

This would make more sense to everybody because there isn't a rule against misleading stewards, and honestly he asked the team how to act and followed their instruction.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)03/04/2009 at 20:25

  • Ollie03/04/2009 at 20:28

The other part of the reason is that Alonso is no longer at Mclaren.

True. But what happened did kinda involve Renault. Although not directly, of course. But for a double world champion, you'd expect him to be mentioned as much as Hamilton whenever people bring it all back up (which I do intend to do with this comment, but probably will, so apologies). I think it is mostly down to Alonso being managed a lot better.

Besides, Alonso would never back out of a man-challenge if he agreed to it in public, on the record.

Who says they haven't already! Bassano's was pretty good.

  • Rich03/04/2009 at 20:32

So do you guys think LewHam’s apology was enough, or do you guys not buy it?

I am sure he was under instructions so that bit is probably mostly correct. I think other F1 drivers will take a dim view though. Personally I would leave it in the case of Lewis but would want more of an explanation from Macca - especially Martin. Lewis needs to find another team that will not influence him to make bad decisions.

  • Fiox03/04/2009 at 20:32

But he was still part of it, even if he didn’t mean it. You could carry a stolen object, you wouldn’t mean it, but you’d still be nicked

I'll put it this way, the stewards as far as I understand aren't a court of law, LewHam was not under oath so he has broken no laws, at a court of appeal he would be.

Anyway for some reason McLaren aren't appealing it so I suppose there's no point in arguing over spilt milk

  • RG03/04/2009 at 20:32

Yeah. This is what I thought was being alluded to with the "management and PR' line, with emphasis on the management bit.

Erm, all that shows us is that Rosberg really does like practice and I think Ferrari were trying to prove a point in FP2, show the world they still are quick. For qually, who knows?

  • Scott Woodwiss03/04/2009 at 20:42

    Anyone for Skype now? :)

  • Steven Roy03/04/2009 at 20:42

True. But what happened did kinda involve Renault. Although not directly, of course. But for a double world champion, you’d expect him to be mentioned as much as Hamilton whenever people bring it all back up (which I do intend to do with this comment, but probably will, so apologies). I think it is mostly down to Alonso being managed a lot better.

I think it is just Hamilton and McLaren have a higher profile and they were the first to be accused of the spying nonsense. So it had more impact and it is in more people memories despite the fact that all sorts of other teams have been involved. There have been a lot of people mentioning that Toyota are never in trouble but they had two engineers jailed for taking Ferrari info but it didn't make the headlines so it stays under the radar.

  • Ollie03/04/2009 at 20:42

  • Scott Woodwiss03/04/2009 at 20:49

My summing up of FP today:

Rosberg carried on his seemingly customary trend of being fastest in practice while Ferrari began their fightback with Kimi leading the way. Brawn seem to be taking it easy ahead of qualifying and no doubt will show their true speed there despite the 5 place penalty handed to Rubens. As for Lewis, the sense of deep embarrassment and sadness was etched on his face in the apology press conference and this will have no doubt knocked his confidence and focus somewhat ahead of what looks to be a tough weekend for the reigning champion. Force India are a notable team from today's activities. Sutil managed to get the car onto the top of the timesheets for a short time which proves the car does have some pace, it's just when and where it decides to show it that's evident. It's qualifying pace stinks yet in the race it's consistent and miles more competitive than last year's effort, primarily down to the added support from McLaren this season. My top 3 bet for qualifying looks to be Button, Raikkonen and Rosberg. Mind you, this is for a dry session. If it rains I have absolutely no idea where this pole position will swing.

  • Ollie03/04/2009 at 20:49

Haha, I would say a big cap that isn't even bent on the peak. Must've been a new one, straight out of the wrapper. Prolly done in a hurry. Someone at Ferrari must've been thinking, "There's something missing from all this. Watch, driver, shirt... Oh crikey, cap!"

this morning in sepang, kimi turned exiting a car into an art form. it took but one and a bit race weekends to witness a kers malfunction and this one ended spectacularly. it leaves the team who topped friday's timesheets in something of a quandary, they may be fast, but at what cost?

When Super Aguri closed, Honda took all of the R&D they were working on - which included the 2009 car.

I'm assuming they then looked at the Super Aguri concepts and ran through their tests and found them to be more efficient that their own designs.

That has had a bit of coverage. Apparently a lot of the good innovative ideas came from something Super Aguri tried. Shows how bad Honda were that a customer team with no money had more idea than them. You have to feel sorry for Aguri. He built a good team and gets no credit.

Well officially it was about how me misled the stewards, but seriously I think you’re the only person to not notice everything he says is fed to him via his PR manager… his father. It always comes across badly every time.

I didn't realise Anthony Hamilton was in with the stewards... I think they went to the stewards almost before he spoke to Anthony...

But if you mean the Press Conference, if you watch it you'll see that Lewis was responding to Press questions and unless Anthony had a hand up his back and was using Lewis as a dummy (I failed to spot that) then I think Lewis was talking for himself...

And anyway the question was about Lewis's press conference apologies sufficient... and that was what my response was about...

There is being really sorry... and being sorry you've been found out... and Lewis felt like me to be the latter...

I am not sure what else he could have done except to be brutally honest and say "I foolishly didn't see how stupid it was to go after a point in this manner and didn't weigh the consequences. I didn't mean to lie but got caught up in the moment. I didn't mean to shaft Trulli but once I started it was hard to pull back. I acted like a child caught with his hand in the sweet jar when he already has his pockets bulging with chocolate bars"...

Actually if he'd said those things I would have respected him more...

You have to feel sorry for Aguri. He built a good team and gets no credit.

    Wasn't that the big problem?

    malaysia fp1/2 roundup

this morning in sepang, kimi turned exiting a car into an art form. it took but one and a bit race weekends to witness a kers malfunction and this one ended spectacularly. it leaves the team who topped friday’s timesheets in something of a quandary, they may be fast, but at what cost?

    i gave mine earlier BTW...

  • Bassano Clapper03/04/2009 at 21:03

  • Lady Snowcat03/04/2009 at 21:04

Super Aguri designers came up with the brilliant diffuser idea, one of them went on to work for Toyota. Willaims either thought of their own style or Toyota gave them ideas

That wasn't quite what I heard...

When SA were shut down most of the guys were moved to Honda and as there was room on the 2009 design team that's where they ended up...

Whilst there they picked up and helped with the diffuser design and then someone moved on to Toyota where they effectively took the diffuser idea with them...

It's unlikely that the diffuser came from SA directly as I know for a fact that they'd hardly worked on the 2008 car let alone a 2009 version...

But if you have a better source do tell...

I think he's really brave, because he clearly wants to get the car back over the white line so the mechanics can get to it. Whether he's hoping they can work on it, or just wants to protect it from the crane, it was a very team-friendly thing to do.

The plane isn’t very reliable - most appearances were cancelled due to technical issues.

It was effectively a new aircraft at the end of the service - all teething problems *apart from teh no2 engine possibly...could be a deadded engine. :( *

Plus, they were all issues the RAF would have flown with - but sadly, as the aircraft is now a civillian aircraft, it's held to higher standards than the RAF operated her to.

She's also just an old aircraft. First flight was in 1960 - and she was flown consistantly until 1993 - then sat in a hanger in various states of dismantled for the next 14 years.

Took the only bits they could broadcast of the stage shows and tamed them down. :(

Yes. The other two's shows I also have and they are much better. I loved the way that Baddiel's girlfriend was obviously enjoying "10 minutes in the motorhome" with Rob Newman and David didn't notice.

  • Flibster03/04/2009 at 21:49

The Mary Whitehouse Experience radio shows were pretty good. Got hold of a complete set of them a while ago and they lasted me a couple of week of office work. :D

Yuup. Was one of the first things I hunted out when I got decent broadband. ;)

Was never really a fan of David Baddiel, but Rob Newman is a local chap to me and has performed a the local comedy club a couple of time - sreally clever chap - most of his comedy went right over the drunken masses heads.

Florida can be a bit windy.

Just ask Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Genevieve, Edouard, Fay, Gustav, Hanna, Ike, Iselle, Josephine, Kyle, Omar and Paloma. ;)

  • RG03/04/2009 at 22:31

No engine noise. No point driving it.

The silent car is only for testing.

Y'see the car will have a simple button on the sterring wheel which can activate silent mode on/off. This occurs when the button is pressed, and electricity stored under braking (assuming we dont use KERS) will be sent to the engine where it will change into a chemical which can deafen the noises of the engine. When pressed again, another chemical goes in which explodes the other ones.

  • lou ( ♥ brawngp)03/04/2009 at 22:31

What we do, build a similar track closer to home, maybe windemere, so the track won't get flooded on a rough day, a bit wider, a bit more run off (ie tyre walls after gravel) etc

    it’s not that.

alonso was saying last year that we didn’t know the whole truth (or even half of it). am going to have to find a quote, but today’s comments re-cast that whole episode in a new light.

it appears that the team cannot necessarily be trusted, but there’s no specific evidence to suggest the same for alonso. also makes me ask questions about honest ron and spygate.

Its a bit late but I just want to say thanks for posting that, you've summed up my feelings :)

I hope we get the truth about what went on in 2007, but my guess is Alonso is prevented from saying too much about it.

It was a Safari hack and the winner had known about the exploit for over a year. OS X is much safer than Windows for all sorts of reasons, mainly the fact that the security doesn't cripple your machine.

I never used to get infections, but I have seen unprotected systems get clobbered hard, once on a corporate network that should have been safe.

The biggest problem with Windows is sorting out the fallout from an infection. OS X does a much better job of making sure that the infection doesn't happen in the first place.

    Macs are better than PCs

Unfortuntely they're just too expensive. My Sony Vaio £650, a MacBook Pro with similar spec £1100. Would love a Mac but can't see it being an option anytime in the next decade.

Agreed that they are not cheap, but do you need a £650 laptop, it's all about value for money which is pretty much the definition of quality

Macbooks start at under £600 if you look in the right place

When you spend all day using computers that have a processor of around 0.1Hz and the average RAM of a fly with only 1 wing....

When you get home you dont care what hte computer asks you, aslong as its done today :D

Most comparison reviews show that the "logo tax" isn't real. You also get a proper suite of software included with every machine.

My desktop at work runs a processor at nearly 3.0 Ghz but has 512MHz of RAM!!

With SAP that becomes a big FAIL

I spend most of my time doing 3D modelling and working with massive photoshop files so performance was my main criteria. The base level Macs just can't handle it :(

One other thing - try and find a four/five year old PC that will run Vista. OS X Leopard runs just fine (with all graphical bells and whistles) on older hardware.

Totally agree, just can't afford one. Also can't afford to buy mac copies of CS4, AutoCAD and FormZ, would run into thousands.

Time for some food before FP3 and Qualifying.

Going to do some traditional Malaysian food. :D

Pork Stir Fry served with noodles, Mutton Rendang, Steamed Palm Sugar Custard and the classic, deep friend pancake ice cream.

FP3 doesn't happen for 6 hours yet. Time for pudding. too.

I need a business case to upgrade to 1Gb of RAM

I could justify it but these are difficult times for airlines

I should just insatll it myself, It'd be more proactive

(until it breaks when I'm not on shift and they swap the base unit over)
