We're heading straight into the Malaysian GP weekend now, with Free Practice already under our belts. Having stayed up the majority of the night to watch it, I can safely say I'm tired! However, I can't wait for the action to get going again. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about:
- We caught up with Joe for a quick chat before he headed off to the circuit for Free Practice. You can listen to the show here, and enjoy Joe's thoughts on the penalties we've seen, plus how the first race was in terms of KERS, excitement, and drivers. We also mull over the prospects for Malaysia.
- It's emerged that the newly appointed Sporting Director of McLaren - Dave Ryan - could be leaving the team - with rumours of a suspension. Nothing has been confirmed, of course, but this must be in relation to the Hamilton disqualification. Seems a bit harsh to me, but what do you guys think?
- BMW are joining in the diffuser row again. Having missed the original protest due to misfiled documents, they have written to the FIA to ask if they can get in on the action and turn up to the hearing on the 14th. I wonder what they've got to say that they want so desperately to be heard, that the other teams wouldn't have said?
That'll do it for now, keep your comments coming, as they will get us through the day as we recover from a late one. Feel free to discuss whatever's on your mind, news, predictions, thoughts for the upcoming race, and I'll see you in the comments.
BMW still want to get involved in the diffuser debate? This could be interesting... ...or completely pointless.
Now you've seen the two free practice sessions, don't forget about Fantasy Racers.
All selections will be frozen at 03 Apr 2009 16:00 GMT so make sure your lineup is finalised before this time.
I did really bad last week, and think I might put some effort into changing my team around today.
Thanks Scott. Reminder post coming shortly.
James Allen on the press conference: http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/whitmarsh-admits-team-told-lewis-to-lie/
That's quite a headline...
If thats true, no wonder he got suspended from the team.
I shall be awaiting the full transcript!
So Whitmarsh might be reconsidering his position in the team, Ryan has bassically been sacked and Lewis will be saying sorry in about an hour...
...wow.
Where art thou Ron?
Probably on the phone at the moment shouting at people.
This is a pivotal moment for LewHam. Either he starts on a road to redemption or he becomes Schumi-esque...
Decided to forget about FP1 and 2 for some sleep, woke up at a decent hour thinking qualifying might be on. Silly me.
Drama.
Do you think he is itching to come back and sort things out, or just glad he's well out of it?
Interesting post about the international media reaction to this story from James - http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/how-the-world-views-the-hamilton-affair/
Spain is included, but unsurprisingly the harshest comments come from the UK...
Second one. It's not his responsibility, and he'll be staying clear of this mess.
Lewis will be in a press conference in a few minutes according to lee
Read the James Allen post so I don't copy and paste the whole thing. It's incredible. I love his blog, but got sick of his commentating. odd. partial quote below..
so Whitmarsh has cleared himself. smart move. a new conspiracy has begun. shame. at least the mclaren car is nowhere close to the front of the field (at this stage) so it won't look like they've cost themselves a championship. (yes i know the first two races aren't totally indicative but I'm ready to write them off)
Ironically, McLaren's own wallah in charge of comms used to describe this sort of thing as "anus protectus"...
Again, Mclaren involved in a dishonesty scandal and the boss washes his hands of the affair...
Stewards meetings are not minuted but this whole thing is about who said what to the stewards of which there is no record. Amateur hour strikes again.
There's no record, but both sides are saying the same thing, so you've got to think it's true.
Why would McLaren admit to it if it didn't happen?
I am not saying it didn't happen. It just seems odd that the stewards of one meeting have raised this and it is being dealtt by the stewards of another meeting with no record of the original proceedings. It is all the more ridiculous because the stewards of the first meeting did not review the data from the ECUs and radios which was available to them.
...Led by the Daily Mail, of course. Amusing, eh, that a paper with such a devout moral compass and sense of values should be edited by a man who is infamous for his regular deployment of a word that begins with 'c', ends with 't', and rhymes with 'shunt'?
Who is the editor of the Mail these days?
And that they are leading the campaign against Tax Haven's when their paper is registered... and their owner is registered... Ah well I won't use the words here in case somebody decides to do something. But yes.
Daily Mail in hypocrisy shocka
Paul Dacre
I'm awaiting the first comment on the Daily Racist's website of "send him back where he came from!"
What, Stevenage?
Damn it - now I have to do some work.
Dell servers have arrived, as has all the upgrades for them. Oh well.
More from Lee Mckenzie
to get rid of a staff member they blame for a previous incident (see JA's blog). I agree with you though - I'm just offering an idea of why thy might, not saying this is the motivation.
My wife last night said "...He's stupid - can he not think for himself?"
Also the Daily Mail has been leading the charge against excessive wages and the bonus culture in the City...
FACT: In 2006 Paul Dacre was paid £1.26m to be editor of the Daily Mail.
Interesting stuff about Alonso. Apparently he did fewer runs because he is suffering from an ear infection.
Sometimes ear infections can affect your balance. That sounds like a difficult thing to contend with if you are going round corners at several Gs
Unlikely as they only promoted him during the winter with a big fanfare in the press and the guy has been with the team for 35 years.
More updates now from James Alen
I must say twitter is amazingly useful for little things like this.
He was the guy in the room. The only other guy in the room was Lewis. Which one would you get rid of?
That was covered before practise on some sites. Apparently he was excused press conferences, drivers briefings etc to help him recover. I can't help thinking that 70% humiditiy is not going to help an ear infection.
Apparently the apology in full is on james' blog.
Also, check out Vettel's answer to keeping cool in malaysia. Bit crude to go posting here but it made me laugh. :D
In a recent issue of the New Statesman (guest-edited by the similarly repulsive A Campbell, it must be said), they sent various national newspaper editors a questionnaire about where their kids go to school. Dacre's (non)response was amusing...
http://www.newstatesman.com/health/2009/03/state-school-private-education
Sounds quite pleasent really - when it's really hot anyway. :D
"This time it was a huge mistake. I am learning from it. It has had a huge toll for me. It was a lot to deal with. I was in the wrong and I feel I owe it to my fans to let them know that. Like I said I was misled."
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/lewiss-mea-culpa/
Good to see Richard "F*****g" Alton also living up to stereotype there!
It will be intresting to see what comes out from that!
For anyone playing along on the SofaF1 predictions game the Malaysian post is up: http://www.sofaf1.com/2009/04/malaysian-pole-poll.html
Uh oh.
:)
Done.
I know as an F1 fan we're supposed to know about suspension but this is ridiculous: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74180
I'm absolutely gutted.
Thank god for Der Seb! :-D
Hamilton in Q&A with Autosport onMarch 31:
"I saw a photo of the podium on the internet this morning - he (Button) looked really, really happy. They've shown just what an incredible sport we have and just how unpredictable F1 can be - I just wish I could have been on the podium to share his celebrations on Sunday."
I think now he is glad he was not there ...
I doubt it's very interesting but I've written up just a bit about my feeling about this stupid stuff with lewis and mclaren.
http://toata.blogspot.com/
I'm not sure what to think about this. Can Lewis not make decisions for himself or something?
What's perhaps worse is the sentence just before that one:
Which journalists will be following up with, "Can you talk about the other times the team have told you to say something to the stewards that was untrue"?
Well, I do not know, but a guy with such a position as Hamilton surely has within McLaren should have enough courage to stand up to "a senior member" of his team, especially if he claims he is not a dishonest person or a liar... I do understand that sometime things are done without thinking and in the heat of the moment, but both Hamilton and McLaren had enough time to rectify the situation before FIA decided to re-open the case. They haven't done so, instead they decided to celebrate the unexpected podium, regretting they could not stand on it while someone else received unfair 25 sec penalty thanks to their actions …
Considering the "Hamilton is McLaren's PR Puppet" argument has been around since day one, he stands no chance of ever getting rid of that title.
anybody seen this :
http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/a-bit-of-light-relief-from-vettel/
LOL
How could both members of the team be dumb enough to think they could get away with lying? Is Lewis a complete Numpty? Or, just (like me) prone to brain fade?
What about this? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7980824.stm
It looks like a thingy!
Looks like James is thinking along similar lines:
For the full article by James see here: http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/hamilton-makes-sure-the-world-knows-hes-sorry/
All I can think of right now is "...Staaaand by LewHammmmm!" :-D
Heehee I like pointing out who I recognise in the 2nd photo
:)
Better size if you want to point people out
http://allenonf1.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/dsc00265.jpg
I'm quite enjoying James' photos of "the other side"
Whose that right next to him?
Peter Windsor?
have a nice rest of the day here, I am out for deserved beer night
I've been posting in yesterday's thread! :-( Sorries
I like this quote from James Allen's Blog about McLaren:
"Instead they have managed to create Watergate out of the smallest of issues and, just as in Watergate, it’s the cover up that gets you in trouble."
What are you doing to me McLaren? This hurts! I'm still a fan, but I'm seriously disappointed.
I feel like we have the truth now. But, a little part of me is skeptical. Do we really know everything?
Why? Why? Why? Why didn't Lewis just stay ahead of Trulli? He fell off the track!
Damn... Rubens gets 5 place penalty. Gearbox change.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74204
:(
Well, that's sorted that out then.
Has anyone asked Lewis if he slowed for the purpose of letting Trulli past, or for another reason?
I note that Trulli's account of what happened is also rather suspect. However let's not dwell on that then there is a good witch hunt to be had....
The Gearbox does seem to be the weak link in that car. They had to change fourth gear in Jenson's car last weekend.
Stupid rule
The thing that has come out of this... and this is not to defend anything or anyone but is how little the drivers actually know about what is going on at the time that they are out there driving.
oh for gods sake :( poor rubens
At what stage should we start saying that Brawn is running Brawn just like he did back at Ferrari and giving all the benefits to Jenson at the detriment of Rubens?
[This is a joke]
Ahhh no. :(
Hanging out with Anne Hathaway? I wouldn't complain.
She was the only good thing in the Get Smart movie.
What's come out of this is that the stewards don't actually investigate properly. They asked Trulli for his version. Then they asked McLaren for their version. They clearly conflicted but rather than actually looking at the evidence, they assumed it was Trulli who was lying. If they wanted to know if Hamilton was told to let Trulli by why not just listen to the radio chat?
How many other bad decisions have been down to relying entirely on what the drivers' said?
Vettel seems to have dropped himself in it last week by being too honest.
The Massa-Bourdais incident last year seems to have relied heavily on Massa's interpretation.
The result of some desire to do some drawing..
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00553-jpg
:)
I agree. I think it should have been a racing incident. He was foolish, but both drivers were. they played hard, but that's what happens. Schumacher vs Hill taught us that.
Sad, but I think you're right Maverick. Nice points.
Nice job Lukeh!
afternoon, anyone got their copy of f1 racing magazine today?
f1 racing is out today? ah man.. i was down at the news agents today and forgot to look... or is this subscriptions only?
knew I forgot to buy something...
dunno, woke up and it was on the doormat.
Just shows how incompetent the stewards are. They have radio traffic and they have ECU data and they have video. They almost don't need to interview the drivers.
http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Community/Car-Magazines-Blogs/Greg-Fountain-Blog/The-CAR-Blog-Why-modern-F1-is-broken/
Nice Editorial from CAR magazine. I agree 100% and I hope to see more of this!
:)
Agreed!
Nice to see someone getting to the bottom line and cutting through the nonsense.
Agreed. Maybe Ferrari are trying to get an italian driver to the front, because the italian car isn't likely to. Smoke in the cockpit is never a good sign....
love the headline here: http://en.redbulletin.com/articles/liar_liar_pants_on_fia/
[via f1_fans on twitter]
also via f1_fans on twitter I noticed this:
But no idea where it's from.
Even german tv this morning was calling him "Lewis The Liar", but I think they were paraphrasing Fleet Street.
Ah Auto Motor und Sport apparently
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/bernie-eccelstone-vettel-strafe-war-falsch-1098900.html
could he have not done that in hungary 2007?
Oh man, are you gonna read it first? Boo.
ah-ha. me things a huge weight was just lifted from alonso's mind.
the truth will out.
Hoist by your own petard Christine. You can't complain about Danica being called Woman any more.
You should say...
;)
Hmm. I wasn't calling him Man though. It's not like: Man Reads Red Bull Magazine.
It's a turn of phrase, isn't it?
Also, I have no idea what that means :)
What are you getting at?
Yes. Sorry I was only joking!
You have to remember that Me thinks Alonso only parked in the McLaren pits in front of Lewis to get him back...
I've just read James Allen's latest blog entry and was astonished at the second picture. Who could that be sitting behind PW – and dressed in white?
Grrrrrrr!
:D
Something to do with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, I think...
This is pre-Gavin days, so I would appreciate a quick summary of opinion here...
http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/hoist by your own petard.html
He did. That is not disputed by anyone. Lewis was supposed to let Alonso through but decided against it. He rattled Alonso. It was good tactics by him because he was trying to get under Alonso's skin. He just didn't expect the repercussions.
busted! luke we need your photoshop mad skillz to sort out that t-shirt, sir.
It means he gets to read it first unless you can find some nachos fast
He can't have nachos today, else he won't enjoy the nachos on Sunday.
A petard was a bomb that you would carry and throw (rather like a grenade I guess). And if you didn't throw it fast enough then you'd get blown up by your own bomb.
But these days it means essentially getting caught out doing something you've accused others of doing previously. Mainly in an allegedly humorous way.
it's not that.
alonso was saying last year that we didn't know the whole truth (or even half of it). am going to have to find a quote, but today's comments re-cast that whole episode in a new light.
it appears that the team cannot necessarily be trusted, but there's no specific evidence to suggest the same for alonso. also makes me ask questions about honest ron and spygate.
Every time you say 'petard' I misread it as 'retard'!
:)
Thank you. Learnt my new thing for today.
how happy must max be this afternoon?
Alonso was very unfairly treated by the team in 2007. It doesn't necessarily excuse his actions, but he expected something from the team, didn't get it and chose Hungary to make a statement.
Why?
if no-one has a copy of f1 racing magazine to hand, how is anyone going to be able to turn to p.22?
if you type "tremayne f1" into google.
The second result is sidepodcast...
And on that second result is my tremayne which is interesting given what's been happening this week:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/tag/tremayne/
That's true.
Although Christine it sounds like you're too late... He's been reading already!
You may have to just tell us!
fantasy racers reminder. i've put it off all day, but now it has to be done....
i can't do it, i'm british.
i.might.burst.
Lewis... call me, I want to discuss your moral compass and life choices, mate!
Are you published again??
Should I run up to the shops?
Okay slope up to the shops (I'm still ill you know)
SIDEPODPICTURE!
aaand relax.
pleeeease!
Are you hanging on the telephone? (No I'm not doing it)
Really?
I'm sure Stuart C wouldn't mind you scanning it here or something?
You're going to be impossible to live with.
I wonder how different the UK edition is to the Aus one. I shall check page 22 when mine arrives!
Just remind him who is top of Fantasy Racers... ;-)
swear to god. it even says SIDEPODCAST at the side.
in f1 frickin' racing magazine, baby!
Was there any need to make me think of Max being happy?
:D
I'm running over the shop to see if they have this F1 racing but they usually dont :(
So here's the thing. You take a picture, it gets published, and you want to tell you friends about it... how do you do that without a blog? ;-)
bump. that kind of fall could hurt a person. y'know.
;)
:D
w00t!
hahaha
I think I know what you mean Christine :)
hahahahahahahahaha
:)
They should rename it that. Much catchier!
:)
Please scan it for us!
i (heart) f1 racing, and i love you and you and you...
I beat you in the quiz this week as well, you know.
i'll take a photo later. it is bloomin' huge though. half page i think.
grr!
Heading out on the sidepodmission... Photos to follow.
Yay :)
will you live comment the misson?
I hope I'm not treading on me's toes too much by post now am I? (still waiting for a picture...)
my selections for race 2: Adrian Sutil, Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber , Robert Kubica , Sebastian Vettel
What mission is this?
Oh yes
approaching first newsagent
And cue Fernando: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74209
"It's not the first time they go to see the stewards. It's not the first time they lie to the stewards and, sooner or later, they had to be punished."
This could be a v. short mission :)
like i said... a huge weight off the man's mind. i bet he'll have more to say before the end of the weekend.
wow!
And I look forward to it. He wasn't at fault for 2007 yet he seems to have been crucified for it.
Isn't it about time DT came on here to do his impression of me? It's very good.
from alex:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-41
that's not it.
Or hoist by someone else's you-know-what...
oooh, really? we have his email address...
They had classic tractor (picture dropped) but not f1 racing.
dosent strike me as the type of shop that will have it
all true.
No such luck. Stupid shop. :(
Classic Tractor? I can't stand that publication.
Absolutely!
I couldn't put classic tractor in the middle of the shot without getting pictures of the shelf above.
We need to hear that.
Why does classic tractor matter?
Just approaching newsagent 2
Clearly it pulls in some readers...
I'll get my coat.
It's the number 1 publication in the world for people into classic tractors.
I just couldn't believe they would stock that over f1 racing
:)
:D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-42
Does 'me' take pictures of tractors too?
:D
The suspense is killing me.
i can do... i'd imagine they're a bit easier to capture.
Nothing there either :(
What if it's there, but then he realises he doesn't have enough money??
:(
I feel your pain
he could sit on the floor and read it cover to cover?
Oooh. 1 week till Red Dwarf returns. :D
Good point. Looks in pocket
Be honest, you only want him to look at page 22.
only top half, at that.
i am going to buy multiple copies though, just so you know.
Why are we all in yesterday's daily?
don't worry, will move later.
don't panic, he has funds:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-43
Phew.
Did he have a whip around or something?
Tried sainsburys. Not there they had autosport.
Sidepodfunds
Sidepodcoins
okay, i thought live commenting was funny, but this is hilarious. we can't skype him and do it all together can we?
he's gone big!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-44
ehehehehe.
Neatly ignores that Trulli's diffuser has also been appealed against.
In the fourth place now...
if he find it in there then i'll buy it for him!! :P
Did he not mention enough protests?
mission impossible?
:D
Good luck!!
How odd. It's definitely in shops cos I saw it at lunchtime.
and you didn't look at page 22?
Um no. It's not something I do as a matter of course.
it's not like you haven't seen it before or anything.
From the sounds of it, it's not like I won't see it enough in the future, either.
They usually have it but they've sold out :(
News of page 22 is clearly spreading fast!
:D
:D
this little walk is becoming botham-esque.
He shoulda made it sponsored then he could have raised enough to buy the magazine (if he ever finds it).
What about budgens?
we need a trail of people following him.
I'm putting off sleep so I can see the result of the mission.
:D
it is that good :D
The guy from Budgens reads it. They don't stock it. Where does he get it from? The post office - that was the place that was sold out :(
I don't think there are any more places :(
oh-no!
i feel a subscription coming on...
I'll report back on if you show up in the Australian issue. Sometimes they tweak ours to feature more Mark Webber ;)
hehe. cheers amy, if it helps, it's on page 22, not sure i mentioned that...
I have uploaded a pic with me with my hands up in surrender. Or rather one hand up because the other was taking the picture. :(
awwwwww:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-48
:)
You look like you're being held at gunpoint!!
thank you for trying alex ;)
Could one of us online find out the distributors and then ask them where in your suburb you can buy it?
I almost bought it yesterday lunchtime too, I shall do so tomorrow when I pick up my new (used) car :D
Well done that man - does the C in Mr C stand for Camera? :P
not sure if that is more Botham or Trulli?
I have been talked into joining the work's Grand National sweepstake.
I had to hand over money and was given two horse names. I don't know what it all means.
Do horses have wheels?
5 i believe
:)
it might have to.
Only the slow ones with training wheels.
Or, if they have chariots...I watched Gladiator last night :)
Strange ... it was just on TV here too!
I have seen that one!
I should clarify that while I do live in Italy, I get austrian, german and swiss-tv as well. so like this morning, when the italian networks don't show free practice, i can find it somewhere else...
RTL will hook you up. Das Deutsche ITV ;-)
I remember when RTL was good for very different films!
The Legendary Tutti-Frutti hour?
They had films about ice cream?
I of course was talking about the WCW wrestling they used to show, yes, that's what I was talking about *whistles*
The other day, Danish Eurosport was showing Wrestlemania 3 ... an odd experience, I can tell you! :-D
OMG! That's awesome Mr C! Congratulations!! and in f1 racing too!!!
I'm sooo going to get the magazine on my way home! it's strange but this has made my day :) i'm so happy for you.
one day, i'll get one of my photos in a magazine...
cheers lou. this one though was absolutely content over quality.
don't think I get that one. I get enough. I'm not complaining - i just have a digital box for the free broadcasts...which by the way doesn't give me anything extra on F1 coverage. the red dot just opens up the televideo/teletext. the private tv networks (owned in part by the prime minister) does a much better job on their network with interactive features, but they don't have F1. sigh.
it's still awesome though :D
Noooo, don't get him all riled up again. I have to live with him!
:)
One of my my favourites! I was always a big wrestling fan as a kid, and now I work for the company that publishes WWE DVDs in UK/Europe!
It's WrestleMania 25 this weekend, makes me feel old!
sorry Christine ;)
Awesome :-)
It was pretty cool to see the classics again!
speaking of feeds, i found this site the other day. useful for watching (ahem) live sport. not sure if we'd ever use something like that though....
THATS AMAZING :D :D didnt see that first time
You may find this version a bit more user friendly
http://livetv.ru/en/
The other site worth checking for sports feeds is
www.channelsurfing.net
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/apr/03/formula-one
The article contained this quote:
Spooky.
I just switched it into italian ;)
Show off!
Don't forget that you can submit your short summaries of the action today (assuming you saw it), for the Digest later. It won't be too much about Lewis though, more about what we saw in Free Practice.
Thanks :)
yeah. if you remember 12 months ago i was posting a lot of messages saying "I think italian media is saying XYZ", and now I can say "I'm pretty sure italian media is saying XYZ". It's been a big improvement :) but watching austrian tv this morning didn't help much...all i heard was Ferrari's mechanic saying to massa (after FP2) "it might be the KERS system but..."
I knew that picture looked familiar...Congratulations!
you've seen it? yay :)
I just told someone that unless the horses have wheels, I know nothing about it. They said: "Well, you know about horsepower, don't you?"
Ah, touché.
any chance you can send in a pic?
:D
Right, my downhill helmet has arrived, full face jobby, tres cool, going out for a test ride.
I would live comment but there may be some safety issues....
"im going down a hill...faster....faster....oh no! my brakes have faile..."
:D
however...i also have my race boots and gloves....some Hammy style boots on gloves pictures made have to be taken :D and frop.io'd of course
Sorry, don't have a scanner. Best I can do is a picture on my phone to dropio
We definitely need to see that.
have fun. just make sure that you be honest with the stewards..
what sort of downhill sport? i prefer uphill...
Well done sir, now I might just have to ask which photo it is because I'm feelin' lazy.
i think we'd be happy with that for now, if it's not too much trouble....until another sidepodexpedition is launched...
downhill as in mountain biking....going downhill is much less energetic :D
from twitter...
http://www.jokerinthepaddock.com/
much, much fun.
i was just messing around with you. less energetic = safer, hence my preference!
Was only going to be Red Bull
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/sidepodpicture-jpg
there it is!!
wow! nice job Chris! oh and me of course ;)
I tryed to get a close up photo of the credits for the photo, but my phone camera isn't good enough. The credit says: "Main Pic: Sidepodcast"
A friend of mine once bought a leggy old 205GTi and soon felt exactly that...
well....actually its faster than riding uphill....so maybe less safe....
however...i've realised 2 things....
#1 - I'm not as fit as i used to be....
#2 - Riding downhill....means riding up the hill in the first place...
I just got an email from Brawn GP!.. okay it's a newsletter, but at least it's something ;)
It had some interesting bits of info about the website in it though. Firstly they confirmed what we already knew in that they are developing the website as they go, and this is only really a temperary one. They say the new one will be launched soon.
They also include information on their new merchandise store, which will be coming soon. There will be an interim collection while they develop the full range ready for the British GP.
I could waste a lot of time with this. :D
Too much time.
there is now a merchandise button on their site btw ;)
i already have :) but now it's time to leave work. no point me staying here to play red bull games....fun though....
I just got that as well. Is it me, or does the merchandise store not work?
well it literally went up about 5 minutes ago... so...
They're tempting us! Evil!
it's loaded now... nothing there though...
Phew, £100 for a jacket.
:(
T-shirt for £25 as well
I'm watching the Hammy press conference...
:( he looks like a down kinda guy
wherebouts?
it's on the bbc website
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7981273.stm
"Sorry, this media is not available in your territory."
Booooo
flibster!
I can see a still, he looks sad. And kind of like hes wearing makeup.
i tell you what i find most interesting....
the Macca radio transmission....lewis sounds genuinly scared about letting Trulli past
i feel i should apologies to rich, for defending lewis yesterday. he really didn't deserve 4th.
as bad a rap as the stewards get, they called it spot on this week, didn't they?
oh.. damn.
With the amount they do, they were bound to get one right
heheheh.
:D
Well of course not. McLaren were also found guility of lying to the stewards back in Hungary 2007 - ironically when they tried to defend Alonso himself from getting the grid penaulty.
You yelled m'lud?
dearest amy is struggling to see darling lewis due to devilish bernie. can you see to it that she is availed of said problem?
You mean forceably rip the video?
On it's way. :D
im gonna stick with what ive got i think, plus its now 5 lol

I did. It was in my village on Wednesday. I still don't know why. I live nowhere near malaysia!
that is tres cool
Another chapter finished. The pub is calling...
Has Sergio's deli moved? I don't remember it being by the Post Office.
If I manage to get a copy of F1 magazine .. can I have it signed by the photographer? :D
It might take a long time by the sounds of things so I had to pack a change of clothes
I think we need a song about that :D
Wow strong local knowledge there. Yes it moved to the other side of the triangle and became smaller!
Did you live near here in a previous life?
Oh lawks!
Only kidding, nothing can top stand by Lew Ham :D
Had a flat on Mowbray Rd for 4 1/2 years...
Hi all, I'm late on comments tonight, but well done SPC getting a shout out on the beeb this morning.
They got a shout out? Awesome.
Yay, Lukeh managed to get it sorted
:D
Lukeh = Legend
Blimey I'm just off central hill.
So to get my copy of F1 Racing I have arranged for Katherine to pick it up in London Bridge station.
I am going to Worthing tonight for yet another wedding.
But she and I need to be on the 17:55 from East Croydon.
Am on first train to Norwood Junction.
Small world, eh? Fortunately I don't have to walk up a steep hill to get to my local now.
Speaking of locals, I'm off – happy commenting!
Morning / Afternoon everyone...
Has anyone done a musical tribute today?
Not yet.
You volunteering?
Seems like a volunteer to me
Nope ;)
Lewis Hamilton Interview now uploading to drop.io
Am on second train now. This one to east croydon.
Will I get there on time?
Oh no disaster. Kat texts to say she didn't get my text. She hasn't bought the mag!
I knew I stayed up til 3.45am for a reason :)
MALAYSIA FRIDAY QUOTE FOR CHRISTINE
Remember those Spanish people at work that swore at me for supporting Lewis Hamilton? Well guess what? They've been hassling me all day about him but even I can't defend him this time :-(
Interesting to see the first KERS failure to cause a car stop on track - I thought that if KERS failed the car could keep running, but evidently not. Anyways, I'm looking forward to a good weekend of action and I have my fingers crossed for a wet race as they are always exciting!
80% done....
I'm on the train home too. Does yours serve food & drinks?
oh dear! disaster at my friends house... her Mum just asked how well i think Dennis Button will do this weekend! Dennis is quite a jump from Jenson....
Dennis Button sounds like a Snooker player!
All done
You'll probably need to download it to play it.
what is it kisted under, I can't see it?
For some reason when I upload ripped FLV files it only converts the first second or so - then stops. My FLV player here plays them fine...
Hmmm. Will have to look at transcoding them to xvid or something before uploading.
On the front page

ronald Barrichello and Dennis button. Ahh i love it!!
:D
That sounds like a Fantasy Racers team if I've ever heard one.
Are you at that age when all of your friends are getting married?
http://www.grandprix.com/jpeg/phc/pmal09/fri/buemi2-lg.jpg
Wow - Potato Head does Frankenstein too! :-D
Yesterday I ranted at Macca and the deceit that surrounded the entire incident with Trulli. In particular I singled out Whitmarsh in one article I used entitled ...
Whitmarsh - we didn’t lie about Trulli incident
Basically the comments made by Whitmarsh amounted to tactics of diversion, euphemism and disjointing factual information - this is termed B------T.
Now I see an article entitled
Whitmarsh admits team told Lewis to lie
McLaren have suspended their sporting director and a company employee of some 35 years Dave Ryan. This is how James Allen described Dave...
In the meantime Lewis has made a public apology.
Hamilton makes sure the world knows he’s sorry
Firstly, I am going to say Lewis has had a rough time with the press. He almost certainly was doing as "instructed" by the team in the name of being a "teamplayer". It does seem, however, that by their own admissions they have been a bit economical with the truth in the past (with Alonso adding his own ammunition).
Here is what I do not understand after the Trulli incident Lewis gives what has been subsequently verified an accurate description and stated that he thought that he deserved third place (I agree Trulli fell off the circuit). Then he (Lewis) is summoned to meet with the stewards to discuss Trulli's overtaking. Surely the Macca team would have briefed him on what to say immediately before? I cannot believe that he and Dave Ryan then decided to "lie" as their own pact. Another issue I cannot understand is why either minutes are not taken by the FIA or they get the person(s) concerned to sign A sworn statement. This is unprofessional. Then when the FIA further look into the matter (after Toyota released their race transmissions) Whitmarsh tells everyone they never lied only to have to retract his statement (I think that is lying or close to it). Again surely after the discussion with the stewards did Lewis and Dave not have to report back to Whitmarsh?
I can only conclude the McLaren management is unbelievably incompetent or Dave Ryan was little more than the scapegoat as Whitmarsh attempts a damage limitation exercise.
If I were Lewis I would be looking for another team to drive next year, even if not as successful in wins and points it might be a way to regain lost credibility. Personally I do feel sorry for him as he almost certainly caught up in team politics. Which team would be best for him? I actually thing Red Bull might be the right team with a good car.
The titles used above all come from James Allen's website
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/
Yes except tomorrow's wedding is my mothers.
oh dear... that scary thing where the comments dissapear from ye olde comments has happened to me again... :(
Hah! Well, enjoy it sir!
Shame what an unfortunate photo. He seems to be doing a good job.
I couldn't live comment for a while there. In the rush of changing trains. But at East Croydon the have a WhSmiths. (dropped) would they have an F1 Racing?
evening all
Anyone fancy a chat on Skype tonight? I feel like testing out my new headset mic. :)
I'm on my dad's laptop by the way, before you ask.
Video has been downloaded and watched, thankyou flibster!
You're welcome.
Right - going offline for a bit now for a bit - need to move about my router... Shoulda though about this before rewiring the flat - D'OH!
And I found it :)
Evidence uploaded!
Baaack again. :D
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/03/video-mazda-rx-8-controlled-through-ipod-touch/
This is like the Mclaren Remote-controlled car video (they lied about that too, didn't they ;-) ), except that this is real!
That is just fandabbydozy! :-)
I WANT! Already got the RX-8 :D
Do I have to use a iPap though?
Awesome!
Another view of that start by Rubens in Melbourne
I think the stewards need to look at this one again too!
Alex has a copy of the magazine, I think...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-54
Just noticed BATracer have released the F1 2009 carset. Anyone up for starting a private league when '86 ends, or is it a little too soon?
Yup :)
Currently watching LewHam's apology press conference on the red button.
Something very strange has happened...
The FIA have accepted Hamiltons apology.
I thought that as he admitted guilt he's get a huge fine and a 10 place grid penalty?
Okay, own up who's bought all the mags. :(
*scratches head*
so... is something else happening?
Lewis is in the clear and won't face any more punishments regarding the incident, but McLaren are still liable to such punishments.
Hmmm. The Now show podcast released nearly 15 minutes before the show ends on Radio 4. :D
Wasn't me.
I'm going to have to brave a big supermarket tomorrow looking for one
oooops!
goooooooo alex!
rich i concede you were 110% correct, yesterdays. apologies siding with macca. any thoughts on spygate in light of today's revelations?
that boy's not right.
Feel a visit to stepson is in order tomorrow. He manages a newsagents and occasionally slips the old man a freebie!
Away from F1, has anybody mentioned that it is Mansell vs Prost vs Senna on track this weekend?
Le Mans Series season opener at Barcelona.
works ok with mp4's if that helps?
yay :D i have a copy of f1 racing :D
dennis and ronald, whatta team!
I can't wait to see my pals and be all smug and say
'I know the guy who took that.'
so not jealous... ;)
:D
:D
anything interesting in there?
erm... not really ;) mum pointed out a photo on page 22 or something... but i wasn't that bothered :D

Ted interviews Jenson :D
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7982411.stm
Ted News!
On James Allen blog he has an interesting post about Vettel.. who is fast becoming my favoriate driver.
LINK: http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/a-bit-of-light-relief-from-vettel/
That's what I like to hear :)
Do people not read who took the photo, type it in google and comment on their site anymore?
:D
ted's 35!
christine pointed out jenson... but i wasn't bothered :)
Too old for ya??
You know with the length of how long these daily threads are becoming, it is becoming harder to catch up to see what people have talked about.
:D
if you have any suggestions as to make it easier, we're all ears buddy.
Anyone up for skype now? :)
Firstly I think we have not heard the last of the Trulli Lewis saga. I suspect (and hope) Lewis has no further penalties. The team might end up getting another large large fine. The danger is that Mercedes will get fed up with this bad publicity. Since the Brawn looks competitive they might well ditch Macca. If I was Martin I would be extra cautious in the next few races. One final point it appears that Macca did indeed instigate the entire process to get the results changed in the fist place. A lot of people were critical of the FIA changing the results a few days after the race (on various blogs), but the same people did not complain when the results were initially changed to favour Macca and were calling for results to stand when the awards are given.
fair enough, but i was interested in how you thought the weekends revalations reflected on previous mclaren transgressions.
Gavin and Steven are both online on Skype. You guys fancy a chat? I'm ready whenever you are if you're up for it.
To quote the immortal Homer Simpson.
"Not now. Eating"
Pity it is only available to UK audience - would have liked to have seen that one. I have dumped BMW Sauber for Brawn to support this year. Pity about Ruben's luck with the gearbox penalty.
Just woke up in front of the TV and thought I had missed qualifying. Now I have 151 comments to read.
Thats the equivelent of changing from the plain girl to the over vibrant, standing out from the crowd girl. BMW will still win the championship this year, you'll be regretting it come Brazil
No. Trulli threw his car of the road under yellow flags. That is a serious safety issue.
I doubt it. Mercedes have too much to lose. They would have to offload their 40% *i think* stake in McLaren to start with.
4 Championships with them as well.
good point.
Martin Brundle was talking to Humphreys about the whole thing and MB said something along the lines of "Their reputation is damaged but it should be repairable."
quick question... what is Jenson wearing in this pic?. Is it some kinda cooling jacket?... to try to keep him... cool... or is it something else?
The doohickey is changed and I really don't like it.
In other news, what the hell's happened in Eastenders?
Would make a good caption competition photo.
eh?
numbers? just refresh, it's a ccs loading issue, happens every now and then.
ollie!
Oh, yeah it's sorted now. Good.
Scott if you're around, wanna play Grid later?
sad times in eastenders... not that i'd know...
i'm not sure he can hear you? ;)
I don't have time tonight Scott
Pfft, Lou, we all know you watch it. :P
Mercedes own 40% of McLaren and there are the road car programs to consider. They are committed to each other.
nahh... i have my sources ;) i wouldn't watch it... not at all ;)
Well obviously the FIA will scrutinise Macca activities a bit more closely since there is now an established culture of cheating (in various forms). I had hoped that Martin would have provided something of a fresh start. If you compare Macca with Renault their knee-jerk reaction is ALWAYS to initially deny and release statements with lots of BS. Actually this is surprising because Flavio is something of a BSer. Nevertheless Renault managed their espionage issues rather better than Macca. Last week Toyota got into hot water, but they acknowledged and addressed the issue to huge effect in the end. I think Macca needs to get better spin doctors - it is more than Matt Bishop can cope with. I think Macca fans will find quite a bit to complain if Macca continue to lodge lots of complaints - possibly they have learnt as this one back-fired spectacularly on them. It is also sad that Macca have learnt from Ferrari to use the boardrooms to gain positions and wins. One thing the FIA might have to do is to reconsider the number of penalties - the Vettel one is ridiculous (neither driver should get one even Ecclestone has stated this). Finally I would like to see Red Bull, Toyota, Nick Heidfeld and Mark Webber get some wins for variety.
I can do Skype, sure.
Do these sources include your television?
Yes. That is a cool vest. As in it keeps him cool not that it is cool like his tattoo. It's not cool either. He only got that because his girlfriend suggested it.
Me neither. Also, I'm not behind and I haven't read what happens all over the internet before I got a chance to see it. Stupid Digital Spy and their stupid news stories.
and what if they do? :P
It is a cooling jacket.
:D
Sure, as long as I have the same team mate I have from the current game. The 1986 Ferrari has punched well above its weight in our hands :D
Shame the AGS isn't so good. 2 points so far...
To add to my jenson drawing earlier (http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00553-jpg), here's rubens
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00554-jpg
my camera makes him look older than the drawing looks but im happy anyways
can i just say i liked it better when the races happened at 5pm, rather than 12pm. and yes i know it was my fault that they started at that time, but shhh.
anyhow, if you can start the championship at about tea-time, that would be ace. thnx.
ah thanks. and his tattoo iscool and kinda cute... :P
You don't even wanna play?
I was watching the Classic GP series earlier on BBCi, and noticed they don't have from 2001 to 2005. But they do have 1999 and 2000 with Murray and Martin. Why on earth? Was really looking forward to 2001 too, it had an incredible amount of rain, and Verstappen led!
I think in that case you'd have to start it at 5am
They had problems getting it due to technical problems I think
macca's PR distaster in less than 140 chars:
"McLaren PR: “No,no,no,no we did not…What? You already know…ok, than, yes, yes and sorry, sorry, sorry."
http://twitter.com/wcadkins/statuses/1447357389
SInce the clocks changed it is now 1am. 5pm would be so much better.
nope, but i liked following everybody else.
worst.tattoo.ever.
:D
Looks like McLaren were running with flow-vis paint again today
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/125282
Yes I think it is 40%, it can be sold off rather more easily than Honda in dumping its F1 operation. The Mercedes Board will not like this controversy so soon after 2007. Remember Mercedes split with Chrysler and that was a fast transaction (Fiat are now poised for 35% stake).
Brawn's connection with Virgin and the clean F1 fuel it (Virgin) has developed is an attractive proposition for a Big Motor Manufacturer. Honda's Earth Dreams are being replaced with Virgin's Earth Realities.
It was mentioned in the commentary. White flo vis they said.
that's not a tattoo. this is a tattoo:
http://www.autosport.com/images/upload/1175859133.jpg
meh. you're intitled to your own opinion, you're wrong, but you're allowed an opinion ;)
Only watched the last 40mins of FP2. Couldn't be bothered with the rest. So knackered.
Although Croft and Davidson are a much more relaxed commentary team than Thingy and Brundle.
hehe. to quote rachel from friends:
"that's not a tattoo, that's a nothing"
that my friend, is a big doodle ;) it's lovely and al,l but in the end, Jenson's is cuter. ;)
Davidson reckons tyres are spherical. Is it any wonder he never won anything.
1. yay! you watch friends ;)
2. it may be small, but it's cute :P
"What are we looking at? The blue freckle?"
:)
:D
You can bet his girlfriend suggested that. She wanted him branded.
c'mon, he's a driver, he's not a trained journalist. he's done this, what, four times now?
He should know even more that the tyres aint spherical then
if he had got a tattoo of a zip then I'd think it was better... ;)
No, that's an error message. ;)
totally.
A drivers should know that tyres aren't spherical. He is supposed to be a good test driver.
lets not get started on why he didn't win anything. No one could have won anything in that Super Aguri. Leave him alone, he is a great commentator! ;)
so what if she did. it's a cute idea. and i stick by that. :P
:D
Drivers don't need to know what shape their tyres are...
of course he knows they're not.
What did he ever win before F1. He couldn't even win the F3 championship when Sato was his team mate.
I've argued this too many times, he was totally outclassed by Sato in 2007
That was his first season...
And I wouldn't say totally outclassed either...
After how many years as a tester?
Come to think of it, could brawn use davidson as a "young driver development" driver to test out the kitchen-sink of bits and bobs they'll be wanting to test but can't due to limits?
Okay maybe totally was a bit harsh.
Three years. That's three years of not being competitive, whilst Sato got to race against Jenson at BAR.
Possibly that's the girl I need just now in my life. Ooops my dog just gave me dirty looks - she is very jealous of any attention not given to her.
It is recorded on Thursdays, so they can release it whenever the editing has finished if they want.
Nice to see you have sorted out the plus sign Andy
Great, so I put a percent 20 in between my names so that I would't get the plus sign and now it shows the percent 20! Have you changed anything, me?
:D
Well I had. :(
IMy only problem with the 2 commentary options is that if I went with 5Live I'd miss out on Brundle. If I went with the main, I'd miss out on Davidson. Not really got an opinion on Croft yet, last weekend was the first time I heard him. Legard's not bad either, but he is a but......meh.
So do you guys think LewHam's apology was enough, or do you guys not buy it?
My anger at McLaren is clouding any sympathy for him at the moment.
I think my mum is getting confused about F1 magazines....
I have a subscription to F1 Racing that ends this month, my subscription to Racecar Engineering starts next month and i bought a copy of Autosport today....
"shall we renew your subscription to Autosport Engineering?"
i think she means F1 racing...Autosport Engineering could be a good new magazine though
itll be enough for now, next time they wont acceptt it at all
Is Skype tonight still a possibility?
You could see it in his eyes, he wont do it again.
I think Hamilton will be okay in terms of any further sanctions. But McLaren? Well, just don't say anything about hunting for craggy old ladies with mystical powers.
In terms of reputations though, both have been damaged, but by the end of the year it'll all be forgotten about. Unless something else serious happens.
Whose tattoo is that?
He needs a proper manager and a press agent. McLaren have been 'looking after' his interests for so long, his own judgement is severely lacking.
What's happened has happened. He seems about as clueless as to why he did it as we are...
TBH, I have never been a big Mclaren fan because they seem to do a lot of underhanded stuff, but of course I am a big Lewis Fan. I am really struggling with all of this, especially trying to explain it to all my non-F1 friends!
1000000000% agree. Lewis, I'll be your manager bro!
Kimi's.
:D
Perhaps Steven could do the job as preparation for FIA president?
Agreed. Given everything that happened in 2007, Alonso and De La Rosa came out of it okay. As in, they're not often mentioned in relation to it all. Hamilton though, who wasn't nearly as involved, is still being mentioned in the same breath.
Part of the reason is better management of Alonso. PDLR isn't in the media's attention enough, so that's how he probably 'gets away' with it.
I'm honestly curious as to why LewHam is punished and not just his team who is the one who is really at fault for the entire situation.
e.g. LewHam pts = 5
Mclaren pts = 0
toyota pts = 11
trulli pts = 6
glock pts = 4
This would make more sense to everybody because there isn't a rule against misleading stewards, and honestly he asked the team how to act and followed their instruction.
The other part of the reason is that Alonso is no longer at Mclaren.
I've just remembered - Bassano predicted that the Sun's headline on Monday would be Brawn Supremacy - he was spot on :)
But he was still part of it, even if he didn't mean it. You could carry a stolen object, you wouldn't mean it, but you'd still be nicked
True. But what happened did kinda involve Renault. Although not directly, of course. But for a double world champion, you'd expect him to be mentioned as much as Hamilton whenever people bring it all back up (which I do intend to do with this comment, but probably will, so apologies). I think it is mostly down to Alonso being managed a lot better.
Besides, Alonso would never back out of a man-challenge if he agreed to it in public, on the record.
*do NOT. Whoops.
nope.
Lewis' dad wouldn't let him out to play remember?
Is this a new game? :D
Strange. Will monitor the situation closely.
Remember? Do I ever! I ranted about it on BF1 for a good two weeks! :D
it should be!
Why not? Could be fun, until the Sun's sports writers notice and start using our suggestions :D
Who says they haven't already! Bassano's was pretty good.
I am sure he was under instructions so that bit is probably mostly correct. I think other F1 drivers will take a dim view though. Personally I would leave it in the case of Lewis but would want more of an explanation from Macca - especially Martin. Lewis needs to find another team that will not influence him to make bad decisions.
I'll put it this way, the stewards as far as I understand aren't a court of law, LewHam was not under oath so he has broken no laws, at a court of appeal he would be.
Anyway for some reason McLaren aren't appealing it so I suppose there's no point in arguing over spilt milk
Exactly, one of us could secretly write for the Sun
Hehe. Actually, I think Lewis' dad is probably part of the problem. This is not the first time he's been made to look less than sportsmanlike.
Hello? What are we referring to?
Your Sun headline prediction, I just remembered that you were right - Brawn Supremacy
Yeah. This is what I thought was being alluded to with the "management and PR' line, with emphasis on the management bit.
Have just spotted it, didn't even realise that headline made it to the rags. :D
Alonso does not have an interfering dad!
I forgot to add as well: ...and for charity.
Whatever gave you that idea. Just who is Lewis' manager anyway? Oh wait...
:)
Stereo. One in each ear.
Are any other famous/successful sportspeople managed by their parent(s)?
#533
Father - Manager... and LewHam comes out the worst for it. Such a foolish idea, it didn't work for Usher, it didn't work for Britney, it hasn't worked for Hamilton.
williams' sisters.
Isn't it a bit of a hangover from the music scene?
Lewis's apology sufficient?...
For what I wonder?...
To get his reputation back?.. no way..
To make the drivers believe he was misled?... you have to be joking...
For Toyota?... I think not...
For Trulli?... Hardly...
To make Lewis accept that the world does not always revolve around Lewis?... that he has been treated fairly?...
Hmmmm....
You mean you have no confidence in Gavin?
Wasn't Andy Murray for a while as well?
christine still after a couple of summaries for digest fp1/2. i do mine in bit, i think she has gavin's.
Ah, the tennis players. Do they have the kid of rep Lewis and his dad have?
I have no confidence in Gavin!
Which thread?
Mine: ;) Yet again, i have no idea who's going to be on pole, who's going to win the race and who's doing badly....ITS GREAT!!
:D
here's fine, sir.
couldn't tell ya.
Here's mine:
Why don't we ask the FIA to publish the results now, so we get on with the business of racing fast cars again
Malaysia preview from RG
Erm, all that shows us is that Rosberg really does like practice and I think Ferrari were trying to prove a point in FP2, show the world they still are quick. For qually, who knows?
Anyone for Skype now? :)
I think it is just Hamilton and McLaren have a higher profile and they were the first to be accused of the spying nonsense. So it had more impact and it is in more people memories despite the fact that all sorts of other teams have been involved. There have been a lot of people mentioning that Toyota are never in trouble but they had two engineers jailed for taking Ferrari info but it didn't make the headlines so it stays under the radar.
Hehe, they'll change 'em in a fortnight though! :D
I'd have more confidence in you. Must be the accent :)
Good point. They made my headlines, but I do see what you mean. Also, Toyota aren't really British either, so from a UK perspective, they're not as high on the agenda. I suspect they made Japanese and possibly German headlines.
Just make sure Steven appoints the rest of us into the FIA so we can't allow him to ban refuelling. ;)
Yeah Scott, I might do.
That sentance is bad, so we can't allow him not to ban refueeling
I'll fire it up but I'm not using the new mic setup, can't be bothered to put it together.
Oh why for the love of god can't I do anything right?
I want to be on the committee that forces the president to start a blog. :D (Still joking, Steven. Still...)
in fairness, schumi/bennetton/ferrari still managed to have more controversial moment. lewis/mclaren are fast catching though.
His father does not appear on TV screens but he is at all the races in the garage as are Webber, Piquet, Massa, Button etc etc. Anthony Hamilton for some reason is singled out.
Well officially it was about how me misled the stewards, but seriously I think you're the only person to not notice everything he says is fed to him via his PR manager... his father. It always comes across badly every time.
To prove this theory I present Top Gear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpUQY-zoFnE
Can I choose the frid girls? ;)
Incidently, did anyone notice Jenson climb up towards the weigh-in room and take a second look at the ING girls lined up along the stairsafter the race last week?
As a percentage of time spent with each other though, I think Lewis might edge out MS/Benetton and MS/Ferrari.
okay so here's a question. Does Kimi have a small head? or is it a big cap? http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/big-hat-or-small-head-jpg
hehehe :D
btw, it wouldn't let me post this in the doohickey btw...
Scott, you're not online on Skype? Conference call?
He was merely turning round to see if Rubens was still behind him. :)
Yep. I think he was looking to see where Rubens was though...
There are something like 5 or 6 cases of proven possession of other teams data but only one made a big splash.
I don't
You can be the official script writer. How is the script getting on by the way.
My summing up of FP today:
Rosberg carried on his seemingly customary trend of being fastest in practice while Ferrari began their fightback with Kimi leading the way. Brawn seem to be taking it easy ahead of qualifying and no doubt will show their true speed there despite the 5 place penalty handed to Rubens. As for Lewis, the sense of deep embarrassment and sadness was etched on his face in the apology press conference and this will have no doubt knocked his confidence and focus somewhat ahead of what looks to be a tough weekend for the reigning champion. Force India are a notable team from today's activities. Sutil managed to get the car onto the top of the timesheets for a short time which proves the car does have some pace, it's just when and where it decides to show it that's evident. It's qualifying pace stinks yet in the race it's consistent and miles more competitive than last year's effort, primarily down to the added support from McLaren this season. My top 3 bet for qualifying looks to be Button, Raikkonen and Rosberg. Mind you, this is for a dry session. If it rains I have absolutely no idea where this pole position will swing.
Haha, I would say a big cap that isn't even bent on the peak. Must've been a new one, straight out of the wrapper. Prolly done in a hurry. Someone at Ferrari must've been thinking, "There's something missing from all this. Watch, driver, shirt... Oh crikey, cap!"
?? Refuelling is getting banned. End of.
You could hear him on TV saying 'where's rubens?'
Ok, my bad
I thought he came across OK on that, but I'll bet it is his dad won't let him go back and set a dry lap time.
Script Frenzy script = At least I have a plot now
Sidepodcast script = Same old, same old.
I think its meant to be like that :P
thats how the youngens wear them :P
I have made a point of not brining that up. Schumacher lied about ramming Hill, ramming Villeneuve, parking in Monaco etc etc.
then he said Phwoar!
Does he still have the labels attached as well?
Does someone want to setup a call? I don't have Joe on my skype contacts.
well, they are good teammates...
just saying! :D
What do frid girls do?
:D
:D
haha! I think we need a transcript. :)
get frop.io'd :D
What? When I was at school, all the F1 drivers didn't bend them, but the trend among British teenagers was to bend them.
Incidentally, my Renault ones arrived pre-bent.

It's easy to look good in practice when you're running low fuel against others with high fuel. A reason why practice annoys me and the times should be taken lightly.
Beat me to it :)
That will cost him another tattoo.
:)
A date has been set for his next appearance in the Liana
*rolls eyes* leave his tattoo alone ;)
Good. Watching the clip back, he looks about twelve in that helmet.
He has another one...
I think frid girls need to go into the dictionary.
do it :D
There was also salacious talk that he disappeared into his trailer for 10 mins with his girl before answering any of the press Q's
(apparently there is a physio table in there ;) )
Something which dad has just pointed out to me in Autosport this week. Apparently one of the key people in the design of the Brawn was none other than the chief aerodynamicist from Super Aguri! :D
malaysia fp1/2 roundup
this morning in sepang, kimi turned exiting a car into an art form. it took but one and a bit race weekends to witness a kers malfunction and this one ended spectacularly. it leaves the team who topped friday's timesheets in something of a quandary, they may be fast, but at what cost?
#600 (I'm using numbers because my tags fail on occasion)
Sort of, I honestly don't know the other dull F1 people were more open to be honest.
Are they eating Garlic Pesto Chicken Pasta too?
Did you not listen to these Saward Speaks Debriefs? He mentioned that at the start of his second one I think. Listen to them, he's great ;)
When Super Aguri closed, Honda took all of the R&D they were working on - which included the 2009 car.
I'm assuming they then looked at the Super Aguri concepts and ran through their tests and found them to be more efficient that their own designs.
Perhaps he needed some Physio then?
Has a date really been set for Lewis' TG return?
Also, is there a clip of Kimi exiting the car?
That has had a bit of coverage. Apparently a lot of the good innovative ideas came from something Super Aguri tried. Shows how bad Honda were that a customer team with no money had more idea than them. You have to feel sorry for Aguri. He built a good team and gets no credit.
Super Aguri designers came up with the brilliant diffuser idea, one of them went on to work for Toyota. Willaims either thought of their own style or Toyota gave them ideas
Kathi posted a clip this morning so it should be in dropio
I didn't realise Anthony Hamilton was in with the stewards... I think they went to the stewards almost before he spoke to Anthony...
But if you mean the Press Conference, if you watch it you'll see that Lewis was responding to Press questions and unless Anthony had a hand up his back and was using Lewis as a dummy (I failed to spot that) then I think Lewis was talking for himself...
And anyway the question was about Lewis's press conference apologies sufficient... and that was what my response was about...
There is being really sorry... and being sorry you've been found out... and Lewis felt like me to be the latter...
I am not sure what else he could have done except to be brutally honest and say "I foolishly didn't see how stupid it was to go after a point in this manner and didn't weigh the consequences. I didn't mean to lie but got caught up in the moment. I didn't mean to shaft Trulli but once I started it was hard to pull back. I acted like a child caught with his hand in the sweet jar when he already has his pockets bulging with chocolate bars"...
Actually if he'd said those things I would have respected him more...
Scott's still not on Skype. :(
Did kimi's KERS go in FP1 or FP2?
is he returning to Top gear?
FP1 i think... cause i went to sleep afterwards... but then again that could have been FP2..
Wasn't that the big problem?
Oh, you meant for their ideas!
FP1
#633
It'd be interesting to see if LewHam is actually slower than last year or just the same to see if it really is a terrible car* or just him.
*MP4-25
fp1
He went fastest in FP2.
Dave Gorman / Genius just starting on BBC2. Amongst the items for discussion. Should the Isle of Wight be made symmetrical to help the tourists
FP1
:D
Just in case welsh users know, it's NOT on BBC 2 Wales now. Am having to watch online on the live player.
I fear for Rubens sometimes... i really do. - http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/rubens-jpg
:D
i gave mine earlier BTW...
Now,all I can think of is the Life of Brian, 'Stoning' scene where all the women say: 'Him, Him, Him' :D
i love this program :D
I heard this show wasn't much cop, not enough Dave
hehe :)
That wasn't quite what I heard...
When SA were shut down most of the guys were moved to Honda and as there was room on the 2009 design team that's where they ended up...
Whilst there they picked up and helped with the diffuser design and then someone moved on to Toyota where they effectively took the diffuser idea with them...
It's unlikely that the diffuser came from SA directly as I know for a fact that they'd hardly worked on the 2008 car let alone a 2009 version...
But if you have a better source do tell...
I liked it on the radio - will reserve judgement until after a steward's enquiry^W^W^W watching the show.
I didn't like the first one but last week was better
But his final laps in FP2 were curtailed due to a KERs problem...
It wasn't quite as exciting though...
Hmm don't like it already as I think the shoes with weighing machines in them was on the radio version.
Has Giggles gone to meet some Vulcans by train?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-48
Does he have pointy ears?
i think thats him giving up :D
Don't know, they're out of shot

???
Put it away Flibster! ;)
I am! I'm just waiting for you lot!
Flibbles - did you get the thing flying again?
That WAS a good exit!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/smoky-kimi-mpeg
Hehe. Couple of things struck me from the WIkipedia article -
They do straight line testing too.
The plane isn't very reliable - most appearances were cancelled due to technical issues.
Showing you as offline
;)
http://www.vulcantothesky.org/
It is 50's technology, that kinda makes it like a Force India
how did he even drive like that?
But with a better livery
The smoke got him drunk? :-)
I think he's really brave, because he clearly wants to get the car back over the white line so the mechanics can get to it. Whether he's hoping they can work on it, or just wants to protect it from the crane, it was a very team-friendly thing to do.
I woulda pulled over and jumped out the second it happened!!
Probably of my dad's connection. Set up a call anyway and get me in. I promise you, I am online. :)
Ouch. That's a bit harsh. Are they running an engine from a 300SL?
So it's going to fly... but not yet?
Mind you, Rolls-Royce Olympus engines, that brings back memories - not fond ones though.
Armour plated firewalls and those bloody variable intake ramps and their rigging
OK, who else is in and do you want to finish watching Genius first (I do)
It was effectively a new aircraft at the end of the service - all teething problems *apart from teh no2 engine possibly...could be a deadded engine. :( *
Plus, they were all issues the RAF would have flown with - but sadly, as the aircraft is now a civillian aircraft, it's held to higher standards than the RAF operated her to.
She's also just an old aircraft. First flight was in 1960 - and she was flown consistantly until 1993 - then sat in a hanger in various states of dismantled for the next 14 years.
Harsh but fair
She did fly last year.
She will next fly in June this year.
I used to work with one of their aerodynamicists. It is harsh.
If it's it anything like Concorde, sitting on the ground makes em really grumpy
Much simpler on the tin triangle. :D
Just have to get that howl and everything is wonderful. :D
Fantastic. My most favourite airplane ever!
just reading this months f1 racing magazine (have you bought it yet btw?). bottom right of page six, special thanks section, is a tremayne!
yay!
I take it back, what about Pacific GP?
It is unforgettably loud.
Looked for it at the station. No luck, but they did have classic tractor. So I bought Car and Evo instead.
Does the rest of the world not see the bottom of the page:
"© Copyright 2006-2009 Christine Blachford. All rights reserved."
Thats why they are doing a large service on her before resuming flight. 6 weeks iirc.
But there wasn't that many problems bring her back to flight initially *apart from supplier delays and money problems* Normal teething stuff really.
:)
it was stuart who mentioned the concept originally, so i think we can give them first dibs on this one.
Does he work at F1 racing?
That and being cut into pieces for transportation around the world.
That was partly our problem too
That and EADS (Aerospatiale actually)
Genius - "It's Teddy!" :(
i couldn't help but laugh.. it's pretty funny :D hehe
No. It's not.

yes. well, he did at the time he suggested tremayning.
it's a paddock favourite past-time, brought to the wider world via medium of the ipod. didn't expect to see one in print though.
well the first bit was...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys3gp-RMwdA
i'm confused, what have i missed?
What's happening?
Or flown there. :D
I was onboard the one that ended up at Boeing's Museum of Flight in Everett, Seattle: G-BOAG
I'm loving this Genius show :D
Dave Gorman torturing teddy bears. Luckily no pandas involved.
he was torturing teddys....
When Punt & Dennis were funny
Punt & Denis - Seen them live several times - always hilarious. :D
Ooooh.. Milky milky..
That will be for the Sunderland Air Show, the planes take off from Newcastle Airport, I live near it, and you say its horrendously loud? Hooray.
They still are on the now show!
thats good :D
Their finest moment
Weird.
You'll hear it. Extrordinarilly loud howl, ground shakes and then a tin triangle appears above. :D
But are they any good... Now?
Harsh. Which Mary Whitehouse Experience duo still work on the BBC?
and still do the same "let me come with you" joke after over twenty years?
Andy, can we start the call and get everyone in now? My skype chat is having trouble delivering the messages straight away.
Ta for the date for Yeovilton. I went a few years ago, thinking about going again. Last time took the freebie option of standing in a field at the end of the runway. Fun!
Hugh still does his impression of God. It's... interesting....
Yay! f1 ad on bbc2 mentions Jenson lots :D
Who's hosting?
I thought that was Mitch Benn. He does Ask Elvis on the Steve Wright show apparently.
Oh come on now, everyone knows that's actually Elvis.
i saw the yellow and black car advert at the cinema and turned to my dad and said "you say the words, 'its an f1 car' and ill hit you" :D
hehe
Try being in an Engine Gound Run Pen at full throttle
Night all - see you for the quallies!
Night Gavin.

:D :D :D
That is Mitch - Hughs impression is more, well visual.
Also - I bet I'm the only one here to have a copy of the single by Mr Strange and the Lactose Brotherhood - Take me to the fridge (Milky Milky)
:D
Oh joy. At least it'll probably be more exciting than the Hungarian GP
East Fortune used to be a famous race circuit in days gone by. All the great drivers of the 60s and 70s raced there.
Any other callers for a conference call?
Sorry guys. Don't have time tonight.
Ah. I saw them years ago, around the time of their TV shows. I have those somewhere too.
The TV shows were dreadful - sadly.
Took the only bits they could broadcast of the stage shows and tamed them down. :(
We are on Skype now, myself, Bassano and Andy. If you want to join then just let us know :)
Yes. The other two's shows I also have and they are much better. I loved the way that Baddiel's girlfriend was obviously enjoying "10 minutes in the motorhome" with Rob Newman and David didn't notice.
The Mary Whitehouse Experience radio shows were pretty good. Got hold of a complete set of them a while ago and they lasted me a couple of week of office work. :D
Got those too. Excellent stuff and the first appearance of the "Let me come with you" joke.
Oh dear - something really terrible has appeared on drop.io. ;) :)
You star. Do you have the MWE TV shows and the Newman and Baddiel shows? I've got them :)
Yuup. Was one of the first things I hunted out when I got decent broadband. ;)
Was never really a fan of David Baddiel, but Rob Newman is a local chap to me and has performed a the local comedy club a couple of time - sreally clever chap - most of his comedy went right over the drunken masses heads.
If anyones got a spare couple hundred thousand/million.....theres a race track for sale in Florida...
http://www.motorsportads.co.uk/business-opportunities/16994.html
Just chatting on Skype with these 2 and a very good question has arisen from Bassano - do we know the reason why Trulli went off the circuit in the first place? Was it mentioned in any of Trulli's Q&A sessions?
Incompetence?
Bet you the first offer is from a 'H. Tilke'
i think i read he just missed his braking point, was focusing so hard on not braking the safety car speed that he got it wrong
Isn't that the one where Top Gear nearly fed Hamster to the alligators?
There doesn't appear to be a river nearby.
We need a sidepodtrack
I thought Baddiel was much better in the shows than I remember him being, Newman is a comedy genius.
For testing the Sidepodteam cars :)
agreed, how much do you reckon Jonathan Palmer would take for Brands Hatch? £1000? £1500??
I thought we tested stuff at Loughbourough Uni?
:D
£50 and a packet of quavers?
I'd prefer Snetterton though. ;)
Snetterton? Pah, it has got to be Croft.
Yeah but you wouldnt get to use it, noise restrictions and all that.
Here's where the R&D come in handy, we build a silent car (that works).
Or we simply give everyone a free ticket to Alton Towers for the day.
None of that at Snetterton. Middle of an industrial estate
I prefer Monster Munch
Florida appeals slightly more than Kent. I wonder if there is a track available in the Bahamas
And what's wrong with Kent? ;)
Wait? Who posted that Kart track in Jamaica?
No engine noise. No point driving it.
Lets be honest, it can get a bit wet.
It doesn't have Florida weather, Disneyland or NASA
How about Castle Combe?
huh? not really... it's just English weather. Better than Wales anyway (sorry Lukeh)
Florida can be a bit windy.
Just ask Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Genevieve, Edouard, Fay, Gustav, Hanna, Ike, Iselle, Josephine, Kyle, Omar and Paloma. ;)
The silent car is only for testing.
Y'see the car will have a simple button on the sterring wheel which can activate silent mode on/off. This occurs when the button is pressed, and electricity stored under braking (assuming we dont use KERS) will be sent to the engine where it will change into a chemical which can deafen the noises of the engine. When pressed again, another chemical goes in which explodes the other ones.
okay we don't have NASA... which is a bit of a shame... but... give me rain over hurricanes any day!
it could be worse...it could be Reading...seriously, that place never stops raining
It's a bit on the small side for an F1 car, but if there is a side unit for karting
http://www.iriekart.com.jm/nmcms.php?p=track
But it does have a great big train station and Deal pier!
see, thats great and all.....but the karting scares me...generally im a great karter...however, every so often, i have an off, and when i have off's they are big ones....what worries me the most is the big water based mass surrounding the track....
donnington thing they have worries about run off?? they havent got anything on this place
:D
What we do, build a similar track closer to home, maybe windemere, so the track won't get flooded on a rough day, a bit wider, a bit more run off (ie tyre walls after gravel) etc
Oi, stop saying nasty things about my home town. That's my job!
It is a bit close to France ;)
dont get me wrong, i love reading....it just rains an aweful lot
nothing wrong with france ;)
Of course not, just the language, but the country is great.
You love Reading? It's horrible. I left it long ago.
Are you saying people who live in Kent sound too French?
What's the phrase: shame it's full of...
I think he was talking about books
No the French sound too French, as in the language, what the hell am I talking about?
NOOO!
The psychotic bear maimer isn't a genius. :(
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00jp7ss/Walk_on_the_Wild_Side/
I dare you guys to watch that and tell me that's not hilarious! Christine should like it - it's got marmots and a panda in it :D
lol, no the place.
not all of it, some of its a dive, but you get that everywhere, but theres lots of bits i like. luckly however i dont have to go there that often
28 mins?
But my attention span only.. lasts.. for...
What were we talking about?
I'm guessing this was upped by Flibster ;)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/you-would-lend-her-your-umbrella-you-just-would-jpg
Wasn't me.
Although, yes I would.
:D
Mr C then
This also
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/we-need-this-kind-of-f1-coverage-in-the-uk-jpg
Its a bit late but I just want to say thanks for posting that, you've summed up my feelings :)
I hope we get the truth about what went on in 2007, but my guess is Alonso is prevented from saying too much about it.
Can't blame that one on me either.
Poor girl though, standing at the back of the Ferrari pit...
The truth is out there, but Bernie keeps it in a locked box
I thought it was Jenson enjoying a nice Cuban (cigar!)
Have just found this
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/giggles-does-stand-by-lewham-mp3
This man knows no shame but is a comedy genius
Grrrr, LPG's laptop has spyware.
Get a Mac :D
Time for sleep. See you all for FP3. :)
Or Ad-aware & ... the other one. I've actually forgotten already
G'night Dom
night Dom
This is why I don't run windows, I can't be bothered to stay one step ahead of Eastern Europe
We know.
You do realise that the mac was the first to fall into the hands of the hackers at the 2009 Pwn to Own hackfest? ;)
Took under 2 minutes form the start of the event to get control. :D
Talk about preaching to the converted ;)
But he only entered to get a new Mac, gratis
And stated that Macs were safer than Winblows
It was a Safari hack and the winner had known about the exploit for over a year. OS X is much safer than Windows for all sorts of reasons, mainly the fact that the security doesn't cripple your machine.
Firewall and windows defender turned off on all machines here. never had any spyware, adware or virus infection.
Evening all, just in from the pub. Whats happening?
Macs are better than PCs
Oh, and Joe Saward rocks
Quick run down:
Teddy torture, Punt and Dennis, Vulcan XH558, blaming me for putting pics of girls into drop.io *innocent!*, which circuit should we buy...
Think thats about it. :D
FACT!!!!
You are in the minority though and know it
All it takes is is a higher IQ than a melon. ;)
Want to thank them though, not blame
I never used to get infections, but I have seen unprotected systems get clobbered hard, once on a corporate network that should have been safe.
The biggest problem with Windows is sorting out the fallout from an infection. OS X does a much better job of making sure that the infection doesn't happen in the first place.
Blimey, it's past midnight already:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/04/daily-4th-april-2009/
Easiest way is..
Don't use an administrator account day to day!
Therein lies the problem
http://news.cnet.com/2100-1040-943519.html
Surely anyone with an IQ that high would be using a different OS than Windows though. I don't just mean OS X either (other operating systems are available and just as safe)
Sidepod time?
Educate me, I dont know why but I've been on to the other hal, for years about getting a Mac , in her mind nobody runs them,so they can't be any good?????
*opens wine*
Sounds about right. Clever girl. :D
Alcoholics go to meetings, I'm just a drunk
Drinking problem?
I drink, I get drunk.
Where's the problem?
Depends on who controls the purse strings, buy one, use it, converted. That's how it works
They just work
in one word - Integration
They are also more secure, easier to use and don't nag you to death.
We'll have more chats on the 15th Bassano.
When I converted to Mac, there were a few things that were different and I approached it in this way: If I wasn't already used to the microsoft way, how would I intuitively do it?
9/10 times, it worked - without a support forum
Vista never nags me :P
*are you sure you want to post this comment?*
clicks yes
*positive?*
clicks yes
ahh, maybe you have a point....
Cool
:) I know I am biased, but I wouldn't go back - Windows is clunky and Vista makes the machine feel like it is running through treacle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfetbidVUYw
Flibster - thanks for the Milky Milky song :)
It's not quite the worst single I own.
Almost, but not quite. :D
So you have Star Trekkin'? Shaddapa you Face? Agadoo? :|
yes, yes aaaand yes.
I like...alot :D
Although it dosent bother me with generally as ive trained my vista to be pretty good. It only asks when im opening .exe files and thats what i want from it!
ROFL & LMFAO
"She doesn't have a rear diffuser. Maybe she has KERS to compensate"
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/no-diffuser-jpg
Unfortuntely they're just too expensive. My Sony Vaio £650, a MacBook Pro with similar spec £1100. Would love a Mac but can't see it being an option anytime in the next decade.
But you had to train it :D :D :D
new podcast:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/04/f1-digest-malaysia-free-practice-2/
Agreed that they are not cheap, but do you need a £650 laptop, it's all about value for money which is pretty much the definition of quality
Macbooks start at under £600 if you look in the right place
When you spend all day using computers that have a processor of around 0.1Hz and the average RAM of a fly with only 1 wing....
When you get home you dont care what hte computer asks you, aslong as its done today :D
Most comparison reviews show that the "logo tax" isn't real. You also get a proper suite of software included with every machine.
My desktop at work runs a processor at nearly 3.0 Ghz but has 512MHz of RAM!!
With SAP that becomes a big FAIL
Oh yeah, and we fix big aeroplanes... go figure
I spend most of my time doing 3D modelling and working with massive photoshop files so performance was my main criteria. The base level Macs just can't handle it :(
WOOOOAH, how do they get away with that?!?
One other thing - try and find a four/five year old PC that will run Vista. OS X Leopard runs just fine (with all graphical bells and whistles) on older hardware.
Totally agree, just can't afford one. Also can't afford to buy mac copies of CS4, AutoCAD and FormZ, would run into thousands.
Time for some food before FP3 and Qualifying.
Going to do some traditional Malaysian food. :D
Pork Stir Fry served with noodles, Mutton Rendang, Steamed Palm Sugar Custard and the classic, deep friend pancake ice cream.
That should be deep fried pancake ice cream....
Although I'd pay serious money for that right now :)
FP3 doesn't happen for 6 hours yet. Time for pudding. too.
I need a business case to upgrade to 1Gb of RAM
I could justify it but these are difficult times for airlines
I should just insatll it myself, It'd be more proactive
(until it breaks when I'm not on shift and they swap the base unit over)
which friend?
And not just The Sun: GP Week
