Hello there, it's Christine again, I'm filling in for a rather under the weather Alex, and I'm sure you'll join me in wishing him better. I'm not going to do this daily in rhyme, because that took quite a long time, but I still have plenty that you need to know about.
First up, brand new writer Rory has given us a brilliant review of the new Senna movie. It's a really excellent summary of what is right and what is wrong with the film, most of it being right. In fact, as excellent as the review is, all it's really done is make us want to see the movie NOW. June is far too far away.
We're not the only ones who appreciate Rory's words, as the writer of the film tweeted:
@sidepodcast @asifkapadia & I are lost for words after this review ( http://sidepodcast.com/post/the-senna-movie-they-nailed-it ) Thank you
Last night, Mr C and I hurriedly put the studio back together amidst the drying paint so that we could record a brand new Sidepodchat with Naoise from Manipe F1. I'll be editing the podcast this very day, so look for it to be published later on. It was great fun to chat, and I think we'll be hearing more from Manipe in the future.
Whilst I'm talking about things that are yet to happen, this evening sees Jake Humphrey and friends take over BBC Radio 5live for an F1 season preview. It starts at 8pm GMT and what do you know, the Factbyte Factbox will be listening in. Hope you can join us and Jake, it sounds like a great way to get March off to a good start.
Back to the paddock, the official F1 website published a video capturing pretty much all the current drivers at a recent test wishing Robert Kubica all the best. It's a great video giving a glimpse into all the different personalities we will be watching this year. I know I'm selecting some favourites already, how about you?
Sutton Images have also been thinking about testing, and have selected their best images from the recent pre-season stuff. There's something for everyone in there, including Pastor Maldonado struggling to keep control of the car, Rob and Massa having a heart to heart, and some McLaren staff looking for souvenirs.
Finally, David Croft has been arguing in the pub with a friend. I think these things usually end up with silly bets being made, although that may be because I have ready too much Danny Wallace and Dave Gorman. Our Crofty, though, he was talking more sporty things, and has a question for you all.
Just having a fab debate with a mate of mine about the biggest hard luck case in F1 past & present. So tweeps what's your fave F1 sob story
Clearly, the answer is Franck, who was robbed, ROBBED I tell you, of a decent opportunity by Toyota. But perhaps you have another idea? Let us know, and let Crofty know too.
Hope you have a fabulous day, hope Alex gets better soon, and I will see you in the comments.
Hello Wednesday, good evening Sidepodcast
Hey Bassano
Heya Kai,
Jetlag free yet?
I was just checking out the Sidepod Boston wiki
http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodBoston
I don't have a preference for the weekend we choose - the first or last in April. It's more up to you guys coming from far away.
Just about, just tired from all this work.
I mean regular work, just a lot going on.
Janna and I are both leaning towards the earlier one, especially as the latter is a public holiday and could make flights a little bit more difficult
Ok then, sounds good. Now it's up to jpan and Eric the Baker and Boston Red Scott. I haven't seen them around lately.
Jpan & Eric, we can tweet
I'm not sure if Scott is on twitter
I just sent them each a message to see about dates. I'm not sure how to get in touch with Scott.
Mr C will have to plug it, there's no other way ;)
Hi, sorry I could've covered if I'd been here, was watching an ALMS race and setting up some draft blog posts for the little notes and things I had saved away in a folder..
Happy Singapore ticket day!
Not that I'm purchasing mine today anyway :)
"I'm filling in for a rather under the weather Alex, and I'm sure you'll join me in wishing him better."
aww! hope he recovers soon.
so Mr Bassano, after bailing on Malaysia and breaking my heart, whats the chances of talking you into a night race in September? :D
Dear Mr C:
Please, please, please plug SidepodBoston on the next Debrief. We need Scott to give us his date preferences [and any others who aren't aware yet]
Thanks in advance
Bassano & Kai
Yes, please...what he said. :)
"Just having a fab debate with a mate of mine about the biggest hard luck case in F1 past & present. So tweeps what's your fave F1 sob story"
was there a bigger hard luck case than luca badoer? if not him then, justin wilson, who had to sell shares in himself for a chance to drive a minardi.
Flying out to race weekends is very difficult on Staff Travel for me. Asia is probably the worst region too
Alex Zanardi
Case closed
what if you recorded a voicemail plugging it? then i couldn't forget.
Ah ha! Great idea
Can we group chat to voicemail?
booo after 2 solo trips to Sinagpore this time I want to share the awesomesnses around.
I would love to go but the practicalities are difficult. Also depends if Monza comes to fruition
never tried. i guess so. the voicemail would have to be the last number you call.
this year we have the time, but not the budget.
Monza was super awesomeness. I'll be very jealous if you go :)
Singapore is brilliant because its about as opposite from Spa as you can get.
I'm not sure I want opposite, I want more Spa ;)
And Beurb
money is :(
Although last night I found an account called '2011 flight and hotel fund' that I forgot I had. Not a lot of money in it but some is better than nothing!
its hot and night time and in the middle of a city and the drivers are accessible and its expensive and theres no beurb.
those last 2 aren't so great.
I'd rather do Montreal, which is a great city and race
yay! It's the closest one to me
I'd rather do that too. But Singapore is shiny under lights! It's all they have!
I do love Asia but I'd have to tack it onto a holiday either side and getting confirmed tickets is difficult in advance for the price I'm willing to fly at [which is not a lot]
I don't think there's much chance of me going until I've got a steady job...
Now that sales are open I had a sneaky look at the stand I want and it's trying to sell me the front row just like last year. I have the feeling it won't hurt to wait a bit :)
I heard about Jackie Stewart, I hope he's ok. Sounds to be a minor blip
He's been discharged from hospital (according to Kevin Eason, he got discharged at about 6 pm yesterday) and it sounds like he's absolutely fine now :)
Not even an overnight stay, is that wise for a 71 year old who passes out on an aircraft?
Stubborn
I've been looking at hotels in Boston. Expensive.
I suppose if the medical people are satisfied that there are no underlying conditions and Jackie is in general good health, they may have concluded that telling him to be a little more careful in future or something might be sufficient.
:(
Motel 6 or similar?
It's just the nature of staying there. I can manage, though. At least pounds are stronger than dollars for you guys.
How'd you mean?
It's just expensive, like NYC.
Sorry, I thought you meant the Motel 6 chain
There must be a cheap option, 15 mins from town or something
It's okay for me, I can budget for it, I just hope everyone else will find something doable. Looks like $140 per night is the lowest in the city so far.
I was thinking of suggesting we pair up for rooms, especially as Janna is keen now
That makes it more bearable
I need to check the BA rate too
It does, but I don't do roommates well. I'd need a room on my own. I hope that doesn't mess up any plans.
£80 at the Sheraton Boston. Per room, per night
4.5 *
That'll do
Can do more than one room I think
Yup
Similar price but a pretty good standard
It's in a great location, too, kind of near anything. It's a great choice compared to the ones I've looked at. I've always had good luck at Sheratons.
We'll see what Eric and jpan think.
Cool
Joint Skype Voicemail this week for the Debrief plug?
[not tonight]
I can do that tomorrow evening (night for you), but not Friday. And I am off to bed shortly.
It's time for me to get some rest.
Good night
I updated the wiki
http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodBoston#Hotel_Possibilities
Sounds good, g'night Kai
Great stuff, thanks
big spending day today, airticket, hotel, race ticket - SIngapore GP all set
woohoo! I hope to be able to get my ticket soon :)
A shame I won't see you this year, Amy - was hoping to join you in Malaysia or Singapore. But my US trip kills any chances of either. Enjoy yourselves! :)
morning folks
Mike Gascoyne is going to be on the 5Live show tonight.
I will miss it as we are going to the pub to watch some standup comedians...
Should Mr or Mrs C happen to be about right now, a guest post will be heading your way in a day or two...
Leo... TSK! LEO!
I was just listening to the MacBreakWeekly and at the end of the iPad coverage episode he's talking to Lisa about getting her onto squarespace as an advert for the squarespace service. She says, "what about Spam" and he said, "oh compared to Worpress, on wordpress you're stuck on Akismet, what squarespace has is much better than that!"
TSK!
listening to Mosley talking about his father etc . Interesting
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00yyflw/On_the_Ropes_Max_Mosley/
Absolutely fascinating interview. Whether one dislikes the chap or otherwise, it is quite an interesting listen.
Refreshingly candid, regardless of what you think of him.
Do I really, really want to though? I am sick of hearing from him...
Depends on whether or not you're interested in the topic of privacy. If not, there's no point to listening, I guess?
I am definitely not a Mosley fan but I found that interview interesting
L.I.E.S
morning chap. ace :)
It may be more of a debate starter than a straight forward post though.
:)
Allan McNish, Tommy Byrne, Mike Thackwell. All of them were good enough to win a pile of GPs and should have had a few championships but not one of them started a race in a competitive car.
I assume they are not considering drivers who did not reach their potential because of accidents or you would need to add the likes of Johnny Herbert and Martin Donnelly.
Then there were those like Johnny Dumfries who were very good drivers but were beaten by great drivers (Senna in his case) before people realised the extent of the ability of their team mates.
I'm happy to respect his privacy by never listening to another word the man says. :)
Morning
Something seems to be sucking away my energy at the moment. It is either work or Thursday.
hehehee
Oh dear. :)
and get well soon Mr Alex.
I tweeted these:
Ha! :)
Me too. I have heard more than enough of his moronic ramblings
Hmmm. I thought they also missed out in 2007 and 2009? At least a Ferrari engine won that year. :D
Having given the matter a few minutes thought I have come up with the definitive answer. Bertrand Gachot. He has to live with the shame of inflicting Schumacher on F1
That's what you get for punching a taxi driver
:)
Was a figure of speech of course - he missed going all the years Schumi won and I was running out of space in my tweet!
:D
WHAT? Bad Leo.
Unless they finally got round to bringing in the upgrade that they kept promising, but I don't think they have.
Mark Webber was close to making the list of 'hard luck cases', so much unreliability at Jag and early RBR! Meanwhile Alonso was winning titles in the car Webber could've been driving.
Then he was nearly ousted from his only ittle chance last year by team owner politics.
Glad he's proving he's worth keeping.
He's sponsored by Squarespace isn't he?
Sponsorship shouldn't cloud objectivity.
...yet nearly always does.
They say it might be possible to make a tractor beam!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12620560
Just reading this article from F1Lists: http://f1lists.wordpress.com/2011/03/03/ten-interesting-innovations-that-did-or-didnt-work/
He asks for a bit of help on the March 751:
Does anyone know more about this car?
He couldn't bad mouth them anyway - future sponsors might get put off.
And definitely shouldn't mean lying! :)
Swift worked on a similar principle for their F Nippon cars - much easier to follow each other in that formula
Nick has a new helmet: http://www.nickheidfeld.com/?6201A0A1A10115
Love the Unlap Parody! http://www.twitpic.com/45btmr
Ping - http://toomuchracing.com/2011/03/03/motogp-2010-valencia/
This was posted last night but I was tired so didn't ping it then. Just some notes I took in November during the MotoGP finale, late and not how I take notes now but I thought I'd tidy them up and post them anyway. :)
Certainly not!
From my favorite motorcycle racing site:
http://motomatters.com/news/2011/03/02/aragon_gets_motogp_for_6_more_years_but_.html
Jerez seems to be in a bit of a bother...
Have you watched those races? I've never found a way.
not in the last couple of years - there's no English team at them anymore
Pat, I don't think I said before but I really like the font you're using.
A bit of self-indulgence before I begin editing: http://mrschristine.com/2011/03/03/the-past-and-the-future/
This is the only FNippon race I've ever watched - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNaifByO3Ko
Thanks. :) I'm still playing with which style header (h2,h3,etc) to use and when but it's all good fun.
http://toomuchracing.com/2011/03/01/tmr-game-2011-week-6/
Posting this link partly as a game reminder and partly because a discussion has broken out about whether to include GrandAm and/or FIA GT1.
Love the second letter :)
Can't link as on phone but tweet from 5 live & Jake to say preview starting 19:45.
http://twitter.com/jakehumphreyf1/status/43288251594833920
Breaking news...tonights radio show will now start at 7.45 because there is so much to pack in, and you can watch it on 5Live & BBC website
Watch?
Studio Webcam?
There is a Watch Live button on the site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/5live/ Interesting.
we watched mark webber in the studio didn't we?
Yup. I didn't know you could watch all the time.
A day late, but:
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/03/03/get-well-soon-sir-jackie-stewart/
you don't have time :)
True enough!
Timo Tweets!
Bahrain in November looking more likely?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9412871.stm
Where have you heard this from? I keep hearing August, which is stupid because everyone and everything will melt...
Ah, OK, my browser just didn't show up the link for some odd reason...
Wicky Bobby?? Hehehee... nice to see Robert Wickens is nice and homely
It was never likely that the August break was suddenly going to be eaten into regardless of how mad it would be to race in Bahrain then, surely?
There was also the possibility of postponing it until next year
Hehe, aww. Poor Timo :)
Hey guys.
:D
that's kind of the none decision isn't it? it is going to happen next year anyway
Bernie having another pop at the new teams too.
It's plausible, but I think they should just drop it this year.
Depends how the contract is written. Is the Bahrain GP contracted to a number of years or a number of events?
If it's the latter, then only the 8th Bahrain GP has been postponed, meaning the contract would last one year longer than originally anticipated.
It's contracted to a number of years.
How could they have a Grand Prix in November and then March anyway? When that happened to Malaysia nobody turned up to the second one...
Ah... that would be a case of postponing it to 2014 :-)
Ahhh fair enough.
Nobody came to the second Bahrain event either and that was a whole year after the first one...
Bernie's not charging them, so presumably postponing is out of the equation
I believe so.
See this wouldn't be a problem if we didn't have so many races.
If we had a more sensible 15 race calendar that ran from the end of March to Novemeber instead, we could have easily found a spare week when the race could have been fit in.
Smaller schedules like in the 1990s would be more flexible but the sport's debts are structured such that it would struggle to afford that flexibility :(
:)
Yeah I know.
Malaysia is apparently struggling with Singapore running too.
I thought there had to be a reason it was selling tickets at £14. Maybe it should try deliberately not screening its home race to force people to go to the circuit like in 2001...
they should try being a Spanish circuit in MotoGP!
I always did wonder how they managed to keep 4 races afloat there...
true
Lorenzo and Pedrosa?
They probably can't but none of them want to be the one to step away - regional pride at stake
The 4th was a replacement, I thought it would be temporary but the article Journeyer linked to earlier says it has a 6-year extension. Somethings got to give..
Finally got around to applying for membership to the accounting body I took my exams with.. only just over a year late. ;)
#lazy
Soon I have some letters after my name.
Woohoo!
Good stuff Pat
In an unrelated note, I may be at one of the days of this year's Goodwood Revival in September
That will be fun :)
Letters are cool!
Remember to dress in the old fashioned clothing ;)
Just a general analysis of the way I respond to new stuff after thinking about the Apple thingy PING
http://toata.wordpress.com/2011/03/03/163-sarcasm-is-my-highest-form-of-wit/
Bit of a long ping to explain that one!
Oh nice, that looks a good laugh
Aye - a motor racing artist from Canada that I kind of know is coming over and will have a stall there over the weekend. While I'm there, I will gander at cars...
His site, by the way - http://automobiliart.blogspot.com/
:)
I wasn't sure if it was worth paying for but figured I'd give it a go, see what they offered.
Gavin to answer your DM because the website is awful and I can't use my phone too much in the office, yes I do and I'll send a copy when I get home. :)
just glancing down the last hour of tweets, Bernie says he hopes that...
Bahrain can be the last race of the season
Bahrain can be after Abu Dhabi with Brazil run a week later than originally planned
Bahrain can be after Abu Dhabi with Brazil not moved, meaning 3 races in 3 weekends
Loving the consistency in the reporting
Well, he is on leave from the circus...
Thanks man ;)
Typical Twitter Chinese whispers and bad reporting - all rehashed from a radio interview this morning...
I heard that Bernie wants to move his brain to the end of the season. Such a negative way to look at it Bernie, focus on Melbourne!
Jerez is teetering on the verge of financial ruin, so who knows?
omg new sidepodchat?!?! yaaaaaayy can't wait to hear it :) Gonna also try and tune into the 5live show, but i've got a shoot to do in the park tonight.. hope everyone's okay :)
Do you guys reckon doing a 30 day song challenge with a new blog post every day would be annoying/seem as if it was over-publishing new posts?
Just interested in the idea of a 30 day song challenge I've seen on facebook that'd make more sense to use as a little series. Just worried it may make my blog become over saturated with the same type of post...
what is it?
It's just a list of favourite different questions - ie. name a song that makes you think of an event, name a song from your childhood etc etc - but obviously rather than just answering elaborating on the answer and chosen song.
It's not so much that that's making me think about it's the fact it'd be 30 days in a row of very similar content. Whether people would get sick of it as is playing on my mind a bit.
If you are worried about it... does it have to be daily? Maybe weekly instead?
Yeah maybe. Like I say I really like the idea though and I could include it as a subheading like my Dr Who stuff. The problem when I see ideas like this is that I have this annoying tendency to go 'wow that sounds aweosme' then think about it too much then think 'well, when i say awesome... now that I've thought about it...' :)
Yikes - you're making me self-conscious about my weekly music video posts
:o
;)
You should do it. It sounds interesting and you are interesting, and therefore it's win-win :)
hehe! #sorryleigh
:)
Nice idea. If you are worried, start by choosing a frequency you're comfortable with and see how it goes, after a couple of weeks make it more often or less often or leave it as it is.
F1 Minute ping: http://www.f1minute.com/news/timo-glock-in-recovery-from-appendix-removal-surgery
ohh blimey. Just realised the new Nintendo DS and iPad 2 are released the same day in the UK.
Retailers are in for a good day that day :)
Should be OK. I've done several entry-per-day-for-a-month challenges and they go down well (when I can remember to produce the entries!)
I'm half-expecting "Bahrain to be a week on Tuesday" next...
Oh my.
Jenson's head and shoulders advert just aired on Tv.
....wow.
Red Bull PING
http://wp.me/pHfaV-aP
Not sure if it's working. Wordpress has appeared to died for me just as it's published...
dead here.
ooh, maybe just very slow.
Ohhh that's so frustrating. Was thinking it's maybe my net but some sites say it's up, others say it's down.
I still blame mediatemple.
i would
Wordpress is being hit by a large DDoS attack apparently, boo.
ahh, rubbish :(
Wordpress woke up again.
Good evening.
Probably not a good idea to go shopping when you are tired so your willpower levels are low, and hunger is high. :) :)
But I'm golfing now so it is okay.
I've never been so happy to see it!
is it like the french one?
I am predicting a few minus points :(
It's exactly the same as the french one looking at youtube but with... bad acting.
"Winning! ... Running! ... Driving! ... Washing!"
#sorryjenson
#blameheadandshoulders
Does he use it in his beard?
(Is that how you wash beards?)
ohh so the french one is just the dub of the same advert. Saw that a month or two ago. oh deary me. at least he hasn't got dandruff! ;)
#surelythatcountsforsomething?
I've never fully understood head and shoulders. I don't use shampoo on my shoulders.
Plus it's all good that they advertised head and shoulders but what about knees and toes, knees and toes?
:D
*twitches* must. not. do. actions
I knew my education would come in useful one day :)
heikki is gonna watch RED tonight:
Working on power today, @katahyde joined me in the gym and did some lifting too! going to watch a movie tonight, RED with Bruce Willis
Bruce!
Blatently lurking on christine's film watch. I suppose better that than the expendables :)
fbfb is live if you're at a loose end: http://sidepodcast.com/dashboard
Hullo fbfb :)
Who likes machinery?
http://www.formula1austinblog.com/?p=52
:)
Is that actual progress I see?!
regarding the 5 live special It seems like it'll be streamed as video on http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport according to Jakey
Amazing isn't it! I hope they remember to build a road course not an oval.
Can picture it now...
"I think you mean we're doing the track right, not the next turn will be right"
5live webcams: http://www.bbc.co.uk/5live/webcam/videocam/
i assume they're live.
woot woot!
Hello everyone :)
Was the Webber 5live thing really back in December? How time flies
*waves at jake*
hey kai
sorry. hi kate!
I am so glad I don't watch boxing, this is horrifically dull.
a guy wanted a fight, the other didnt, they got angry, now he is fighting someone else because everyone likes to fight
#summaryofboringboxing
I see Ant!!! ahh i've missed him! :)
Cornelius is a most excellent name.
aww :)
My webcam is broken, boo.
Chain :)
I've missed this tune...
eeeeeeeeek the chain!
I've missed this!
"who does dress eddie jordan?"
And ive got to stop, because ive got a lump in my throat
classic.
Evening all.
Looks like I timed this perfectly
Oh god, not more phone ins. I'll have to mute and rely on Christine for those bits.
SOO HAPPY! although.. internet is rubbish.. so i wont be able to comment cause its possible it will buffer.
ahh thats a shame... least you can listen though :)
I'm not here, but I'm listening. I know it'll rile me about how focused they are on the big teams and only talk about Sauber in terms of Kobi's crazy driving.
Prove me wrong BBC.
I admire the optimism :D
de la Rosa only existed for like 2 minutes last season according to the BBC ;)
Oh yes, doing that blindfold track thing that Simona di Silvestro did for the Indycar website.
Quality stuff ;)
Is bernie hiding in a cupboard or something?
bernie: "august, too hot"
Too hot for the public. Who cares about the drivers?!
Stop pandering to him random 5Live man, tell him he's ridiculous!
bernie finally sounds as old as he really is.
so they rang bernie just as he was going to bed obviously... whispering Berlin..
Convinced he's playing hide and seek whilst doing this interview. so whispery.
*bernie... not berlin.
Sounds like he has a cold
:)
You are obsessed with Berlin
bernie wants 10 teams only
bernie: "12 teams is too many"
You stealing my job.
Covering his butt incase a couple go bust
yeah apparently so. :)
More that he doesn't want to give them money
Go murray!!
Yay Murray! Sense prevails.
Oh god the rain.
wohoo! Spa! :)
Shame he does not run F1
no artificial stuff and a clutch, gear lever and steering wheel. simples!
You have to wonder why we have some manay desert races if Bernie is so keen on rain
:)
I keep offering him to have a race in my street. I can virtually guarantee rain for him, and if he wants artificial rain, we have buckets
:D
Well he gets to schedule a couple of races in monsoon hour to make up for it ;)
Jake is going to have a bad neck if he keeps bending over like that. Lift your mic Jakey
yellow flag!
Love the yellow flag for the news FBFB
just testing my relflexes
#testingsession
is that legard next to Jake?
Have i missed something, but pumping water is bad for the global warming?
Not grey enough.
No. Too young. Mr Sports News maybe.
How come my webcam has been the same since half 7? :(
I don't think so. He would have been introduced at the start if it was
Aerosols
ohhhhh!! probably.
refresh?..
Oh there's a video on the main page
#fail
Seems so.
Water is also more of a greenhouse gas than CO2 despite what you would think from the anti-CO2 lobby
this works for me;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/5live/webcam/videocam/
I had that on but it was a static image for like, ages despite constantly refreshing
Video on the homepage is fine though
Why doesn't Dwayne Chambers dig a big hole, climb into it then bury himself?
Red nose day! It has 2 doctor who sketches!
#notf1
Too sensible.
They didn't acknowledge the news people at all, and vice versa. Just finished, got up, walked out.
If any people start doing things like this in my lectures, I WILL judge them.
Only if he gets cameras and a show out of it...
Nick did not say this. Too sensible for him too :)
Jake is blatenly reading Sidepodcast
No and no. Simple stuff from Mark.
Reading off of the FBFB here.
hey ya.
Does anyone remember Bernie's last good idea?
Making an effort to bring back Montreal maybe?
Nice, sneaky question by Murray
Paul Charsley from formula1blog said he was quitting there and coming over here :)
Ditching Max
quitting?
Putting F1 Live on TV has to rank up there...
he was just joking, they were giving him a hard time about something :)
oh good. no.more.flamewars!
:)
they're American. They do flame wars proper like.
hehe, should we know paul? not a name i recognise.
No Mark.
Is that how Australian people pronounce Mercedes?
he's one of the writers over there, and is on their show every once in awhile with Todd and Grace #notreallymeaningtopluganotherblogreally
If you are going to pay a transfer fee you should at least know who he is
I can't believe he pronounced it 'Brawn'
Saw the comment from Bernie that was tweeted. I was thinking why not have the teams aspiring to compete in F1 be at a track to do the perverbial dippping of their toes in the F1 waters to see if it suits them sort of like what was done back in the '70's. I remember hearing about Roger Penske having a team in F1 for a breif period back then. Maybe something for Joe to discuss in a future 'Aside', perhaps?
As for # of teams, I'd love to see a full 26 car grid. 13 would be perfect for me. ;)
:)
hahahaha
:D
If they still had Jenson and Rubens would you have been so offended?
Aww Mike has to wait for dinner @MikeGascoyne:
Cannot put the main course in the oven as waiting to go on 5 live in 20 mins
They'd be just splendid by me.
#stupidmichael
Hehe Murray :)
Rubbing it in a bit Jake!
and Shov... what about himm?? :(
You might know the Twitter name but I can't remember which it is
Brackley people are awesome!
It's just... him. :(
Im sure i just heard that Webber is getting a parrot this season
*hugs*
Better yet, would they have stayed in contention last year?
Is it Negative Camber? Or am I thinking of a different guy?
Mark was straight to the point there!
i see smoke coming from christine's keyboard.
*sits back in awe*
Haha. I sometimes get the impression that Jake is a bit oblivious as to when he's annoying people!
Todd is Negative Camber, Grace is GraceRD1, Paul isn't on twitter, he's a driving instructor at one of the Jim Russel driving schools in California.
I wonder who on Red Bull is looking forward to Melbourne more, Webber or Vettel. :D
I'm pretty sure the painting is all just a front for christine cloning. Somewhere in Sidepodcast hq there are 6 other christine's typing too.
promoting Gordon Murray to chief designer at Brabham :-D
Paul is british, though, so he'd fit right in. I thought all British people knew each other, but I guess not!
I usedtoknowJim Russell. Fascinating guy
Mark's awesome
Question re: what Murray said: Does this depend on if they're run in dry conditions?
YES!!
You used to know Jim Russell? :) You need to tell us about that some time. :)
Secret weapon - I knew you'd like that Lukeh! :D
Secret weapon!
James Bond's got nothing on Rubens
Ant, ask him for a drive
If Rubens wins a race this season early, will he do a impersonation of Mark Webber? :3
I was working in Suffolk and the hotel I was staying at was his local. He invited me to his house to play snooker but I never got round to going. Wouldn't make that mistake again.
"For most teams the busiest part of the year is winter"
I presume the exception to the rule is Hispania who do all the work in Spring just before the first race.
I can feel the optimism....
I think Chrstine is going to need the first ever water cooled keyboard if she keeps doing som many transcriptions on the FBFB
I bet.
Nice to hear Ross being realistic. This is a great show because it's not all PR speak from the contributors.
ha!
Is Ross hinting at a secret innovation?
..._
:D
Mike G's dinner
Whole sea bream on the menu tonight, with a white sauce
agreed!
I think he is just talking about the same thing everyone will do. They all run basic aero packages till the last test then bring out the one they are going to race.
He let him go in 2009
:D
Rosberg's career really is increasingly going the way of Button and Webber pre-2009.
jake's posture is awful!
Sport News guy has arrived - 8.30 news?
I dont know if he has ever done radio before?
doctor brawn!
Just had the BBC World Service Sports Roundup theme go through my head reading that.
Look what Murray's only gone and led me to make, Murray you silly
http://twitpic.com/45re5p
:)
Now we need Murray as The Stig ;)
:)
The olympic rings will greet people from the culture haven that is paris...
....or the midlands.
LOL
:D
not to mention there's no longer a Australian version of Top Gear.
News Lady is very abrupt and doesn't want to be there, how is she not in awe of being sat next to Murray Walker?
And now Sport Man darts off in a hurry.
:) :)
The random guy looked really angry when he walked out...
Why is Jake need his iPhone and two screens?
You can never have enough screens
i have 4 screens and i'm just watching jake :)
I haven't missed kimi in f1 to be honest. never a huge fan but pleased he's doing pretty good in rallying though.
Hehe, I've come across Kimi fans who would be howling in rage at what Murray is saying.
I agree with him personally!
Good driver but I don't miss him.
I miss him from F1.
oooh live french translation...
I miss Kimi. I couldn't care less if he doesn't give great interviews. Most racing drivers don't. He was worth watching on the track more than the vast majority.
Good evening London, what a great evening you have created for all of europe. Here are our country's points...
heheh
When ever I hear him, I always now expect him to say
*are they saying boooooo or Boulier?*
Stop that right now
Actions speak louder than words. ;)
F1 is the pineapple of what he wants to be?
Huh?
hah
F1 is the pineapple?
I think he means pinnacle
i miss 2000-2007 kimi.
Rabbitation = rehabilitation. Who knew?
Murray approves of Ant's question
Google translate... :P
From @kayels who works at RenaultF1
I wanna see if @jakehumphreyf1 can actually understand Eric as takes as much concentration to understand as listening to Kimi!
Its been too long since I was in France, this interview is making me nostalgic :D
saw that. how cool is live video radio!
#blameFerrari
not cool if you are window-hopping and miss it :)
Video killed the radio star but it made radio a lot better
Haha at Ant trying (and failing) to pore water quietly :D
i miss 2001 kimi, that was good kimi
muzza in need of refuelling.
That should be pour shouldn't it.
Should be
Ant being diplomatic
murray now directing jake!
I just saw him directing Jake :)
It's a silly car, Murray.
We need Murray back in F1
Are they allowed to say Vodafone on the BBC? ;)
CHeck the fish Mike
great link muzza!
So long as they don't do a 30 second commercial
Which one is the fish mike and which one of them is using it?
Only if it isn't Lewis Hamilton speaking
If they arent, they shouldnt be able to use the number 3 or the colour orange either :P
Or O and/or 2
The future is undetermined, the future's a whole range of colours.
#bbcadvertising
Speaking of Toro Rosso, would it have been more appropiate if their cars raced with a Lamborghini engine?
Not really. Audi owns Lamborghini
This is going on until 9:30? I might have to schedule a toilet dash at the next news bulletin.
This guy sounds like one of the Gumbys
Maybe not the best way to start a call by saying 'I'm close to Mr Brundle's home'...
Just mildly stalkerish, that.
Looks like a good strategy, hopefully you won't need to pit again if you pit in that window
:D
thats what i thought!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIlKiRPSNGA
Ah. This made me think of what Yakov Smirnoff would probably say to Lotus Team Renault...
:D
I'm sorry interactivity fans, but I don't need to hear from these randoms. Can't they find anyone normal to call in?
yup, mark webber :)
:D Are Gascoyne, Brawn and Boullier not normal then?
Team Lotus. A local team for local people.
0500 909 693 - Go for it!
Where did EJ come from?!
Sounds like an advert for the Co-op F1 team
Ohh it was a clip. Thought he sneaked in on a mic somewhere.
I'm not normal!
Four stops, huh? Michael Scumacher would be a heavy favorite if it ever comes to that. ;)
Schumacher, even
Fissi chella > fizzy drinks
I wonder what sidepodchats would be like if we could all wave our arms at Christine to direct her
ooh!
Mexican wave!
interesting.
I did a few private BATracer games using the name 'Giancola Fizzydrink' ;)
FBFB covering Mike and Silvi's dinner
:D
Ahh batracer good times. Until it got forced to take out the teams :(
And this year's tyres will suit him a lot more since the fronts are grippier compared to the rears.
That should also help Lewis against Jenson
Yeah, sadly. I do still play it though
The grip will help but the wear will kill him, Lewis eats tyres
Am I the only one who doesn't really buy that Lewis and Jenson are friends? I mean they clearly don't hate each other, but the friends thing seems a bit PR.
Porn Again...why?!?
Well I NEVER thought I'd hear Jake say that.
Right, toilet and crisps break!
I am not so sure about that. He didn't suffer any more wear than Jenson at most races last year
Its after watershed, the excitement has got to him ;)
Ok, going now!
Give a silly person a silly idea and you have a radio show..
Can't eat dust when you're in front. Unless you're behind a lapped car...
Jackie Smith's husband acquired some on her expenses so I guess she is cashing in again
It's like an adult ABBA tribute band
hilarious link just because it was so unexpected :)
Back! I think that was a fairly efficient stop.
Hey folks,
good show this evening
Dunno if anyone thought of dubbing the 2011 GP2 Asian Series season as the GP2 EurAsian Series since Imola was going to host one of the rounds that was originally slated to be at Bahrain.
More 5 live photoshop consequences. Sorry Eric.
http://twitpic.com/45rom3
Any chance of Ant racing in F1 again?
NO!
:)
good choice of pic, and you did the reflection!
Barry island!!
Hahahaha :D
::falls over:: *THUD*
yay!
LOVE IT!
just.... no words.
Can't type. Laughing.
I've broke the fbfb!
Boring bit of The Chain
Yea, but, it makes the best bit so much more special when you've sat through the build up :)
Go Murray!
what... the first 3-and-a-bit minutes?
;)
The whole song is great and so is the Taking Dawn version
Dear studenty person, this is a SILLY idea, Sincerely Kate.
Aww it's just a bit of fun.
re: Murrary's prediction - was the theme from The Godfather playing in the background as he made the prediction?
i own four copies of the song. i can't really buy a fifth :)
But what about Moby!!!
Lift me up lift me up ayajaaytajaa (louise goodman appears)
Only piece of music relating to F1?? Selective memories these people.
*waves arms, crosses eyes, looks at camera*
Hehe, I'm a bit of a Grinch over this issue but I just don't see the point, if they manage to do it they'll all go "well done us" and then all forget about 2 weeks later.
My Dad is a Fleetwood Mac fan so I ripped it off his CD ages ago.
I like that song! But just not for F1....
*DC pops up in a tux several times*
My Daily post song was sorta related to F1.
11 years of ITV and I still wouldn't recognise their theme tune if I tripped over it
And then a random snake for no particular reason...
It's his ringtone!
Rude.
I didn't like any of them
Humph.
Going back to my FBFB now.
It's true
hehehee
I'm on your side Christine, I liked the Moby one and it's yayayayaya ness.
Not that one.
*shifts sides quickly*
so, steven...
Will anyone be surprised at all if the new pits isn't ready until next year?
I would probably know it if i head it, but no idea off the top of their head.
I always think of itv f1 when i hear that 'Black Parade' song
THey had more than one?
IIRC the Debrief theme tune is a bit like one of the ITV tunes
I would, it's nearly done isnt it?
♥
3 or 4 if I remember correctly
They had at least three
Ohh I remember the first one now. The first ITV theme was brilliant.
Have just realised had not uploaded my copy of Rumours to iTunes. Resolving this as I comment.
I can only remember the Moby theme tune. Though I do seem to remember some very blue opening titles at some point.
I'd be very surprised because I saw it well under way in September at the LMS race.
Maybe I need to have more faith in British worksmanship then!
The first one was in a very dark wind tunnel or something with mechanics. The music went something like DUH-DUH-DUHHHH DUH DUH! over and over with lots of noises and then vrooooooooom
Pretty technical description that.
ILMC Season starts in Sebring in a little over 2 weeks. ;)
@NASAKennedy
STS-133 Mission: Shuttle and space station managers decided to extend mission by an additional day – landing now Wed March 9 at 11:58a ET.
I heard a Sauber mention, thats 1!
http://www.anorak.co.uk/274947/sports/portsmouths-olympic-swimming-pool-is-two-inches-short.html
:)
sam michael on to talk about the secret weapon.
Oh that one wasn't too bad.
There was one at 20:48.
:)
haha!
That is a second extension. They already extended it by a day at the beginning of the week
It'll be the best sportscar season in ages, easily so.
Guess they can't bear to have things come to an end.
I ignored that one because he calls us a second division team.
I'll be on Youtube as soon as this finishes!
:(
IndyCar twittererer extra-ordinaire
you're starting to get me all excited.... :)
Oooh, didn't realise it was selective counting.
Still, 2, hardly brilliant.
A blessing in disguise?
They are using the extra bodies to unload the new module they took up and to get rid of the packing material rubbish
More than HRT, I think!
Someone will hire her, she's too good.
This is the blue credits I meant by the way - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBy6YNTqx4k&playnext=1&list=PLC78D3745E7646B96
This is the one I was thinking of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM6HXd4iKNE&playnext=1&list=PL18FA5D790D5B434E
True, very true.
Awesome. Didn't realise it was so close
Unfortunate. When teams merge, someone loses out somewhere along the lines
& Force India, not heard them mentioned at all
Forgot about that one
This is the one I liked http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTd9k5orwlM
I might start a 'Nobody loves us club'
GoingtoeatwormsF1.com ?
Awwww.
Since it is now March I allowed myself a Creme Egg.
Why does di resta remind me of ant?!
?
Mm, chocolate.
...but Easter isn't until April. Shrove Tuesday next week. Pancakes :)
Is he a bit ginger?
I wish I wasn't so self-controlled earlier about not buying any chocolate, I want some now!
I dunno. he just does. I don't know why, theyre not even similar.
Maybe it's the whole in a smaller team and doing 5 live stuff. I find it odd because they're so different elsewise!
Don't tell Mr C that!!
Uh oh
New Sports Guy seems more into this
That's meant to be in February!
That was most awesome!
Maybe the other guy just wanted to get home.
Easter week after my birthday. Now I want some chocolate.
He could make pancakes
Not when Easter Sunday is 24th April. It's really late this year.
They need to do that every week
Couldn't turn the station off quicker, have no desire to hear Porn Again!
judging by his history I wouldn't be so sure about that.
The pancakes might still have plastic on them on the plate.
Really enjoyable, much more than I expected, great job from all.
Most definitely
Will christine have to type 'I can't really tell' again?
Well based on what we've seen so far I can't really tell.
Great job by Christine on the FBFB. You will need to give your fingers an ice bath after that
It was always in February when I was growing up. Holidays and things shouldn't move.
What he said
Superb work
Head of referees wants Fergie to apologise. More chance he will spontaneously combust.
I imagine my tweet to 5Live is probs like the only negative one. Just probably needed an extra half hour to get through everyone... rest was good.
Definitely!
Indeed so. Unbelievable work once again.
Yep yep yep. totally brilliant!
Thank you Christine :)
Ooh good news
@DRRIndyCar
It's official! Ana Beatriz will join DRR full-time for the 2011 IZOD @IndyCar Series season! Welcome back @biaracing!
Great news. Lots of potential for the future and showed up very well last year. Selling her to the American public may be difficult though
Jake took a pic of the cameras yfrog.com/h6tivlj

THe Glory mission which I described as the most boring launch I had ever seen last week because nothing at all went wrong with it just before a major fault developed and caused the launch to be scrubbed will tryagain tomorrow morning. The launch is set for 5:09 and 43 seconds EST / 10:09 and 43 seconds UK.
Weather is 100% good.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/Glory/main/index.html
Actually the one ITV theme not linked may be the one I liked most :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuNuoPbzhHo
Thanks all, marvellous chatter.
Apologies for the mini sulk. I ♥ our theme tune is all :)
Replay up shortly.
Ooh, replay up now! http://sidepodcast.com/post/5live-f1-season-preview-bernie-12-teams-are-too-many-id-like-to-see-10
I remember your theme. But not ITV's
Yum :)
The British government reeased its X Files today/ Loads of UFO related files are now available at http://ufos.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
I'd better go to bed. 'Night all, thanks for the company listening to 5Live :)
Cheerio.
night janna
Has tomorrow's Daily been done yet?
Lukeh, this picture makes me crack up every time: http://twitpic.com/45rom3
Some of your best work :)
Just starting.
Mind if I send you a link in about ten minutes?
I was looking for a picture of Eric that would be easy to include a pineapple, and it was the first thing I found. It was just too perfect not to use, just worked so well :)
Sounds good!
Hiya, just come home from the pub - we went to see some standup comedians - one of which was an Englishman who took the **** out of Belgium because he lived there ;)
Was the BBC F1 thingy good and will it be released as a podcast?
Yes and yes!
Hiya Gavin. Really, really very good and I believe so, I'm sure I saw 5livef1 say it was.
Fabulous
http://sidepodcast.com/post/5live-f1-season-preview-bernie-12-teams-are-too-many-id-like-to-see-10
Hey. Depends if your team is involved in the 'We're not loved club' or not. But still more than decent, and yes.
Today I am wearing my lovely warm 2010 McLaren jumper in public for the first time and the first person I saw this morning wanted to tell me their Vodafone horror story.
I don't work for Vodafone :(
The small logos on the front I can deal with, the giant one on the back I can only handle beacuse my hair is long enough to cover it :D
Plus I'm super toasty warm so I'm happy :D
Sounds fun, comedy nights are great.
Yep, definitely listen to it
What exactly did the other person expect you to do about it?!? It's not like changing support to Virgin is going to prompt Vodafone into providing a better service!
Thanks! Didn't see it was FBFB'd too - thanks Christine for taking the time to do that!
It was - lots of unrepeatable humour that was really funny!
It's their own fault for having a boring livery and secret sponsors :P
Rather exceptional job too.
I wouldn't say that about Force India now.
They're probably saving that for their own podcast, seeing as Force India are apt to borrow BBC staff to help in their analyses ;)
They were suppoed to have Di Resta on
I think they literally thought I was a Vodafone employee, Everyone conveniently ignores the Mercedes and Mobil logos.
It was only 30 seconds worth though. It does put them on the brink of their membership being cancelled.
I take it they miss the McLaren swoosh too?
My Silver McLaren jersey doesn't even say McLaren on it!
thats under my hair :)
That would explain a lot. Still, you'd think the other person might have checked first...
At least the first person in my office that I saw said 'oh you're a motorsport fan?'
How I've worked with them 3 years and they didn't realise that already I don't know.
Some people don't see what's in front of them :(
Cheers Lukeh

Thanks all for a fabulous F1 evening! Night!
night lukeh

cheers chappie.
sigh - i had best sleep too
night all
f1 has worn us all out.
For anyone still around, a podcast pingle: http://sidepodcast.com/post/sidepodchat-you-have-thrown-a-spanner-in-the-works
Slightly later than planned.
Great timing
Goodnight!
Evening all
Skype conference calling is STILL not my forte :D
Neither is being in the right day :D
We are in tomorrow
