Midway through the week and we have ourselves another launch to pore over, this time Virgin will be revealing their new car to the world. It's an online launch which is different to everything we have experienced so far this year, and I don't know about anyone else but I'm hoping for more: "Are you ready?" from Glock. Anyway, here are some of the other things we're discussing:

  • The first Aside with Joe of 2010 is edited and published and awaiting your consumption. I was present for this one which makes a nice change, and we covered all manner of topics, including how to write history books and the logistics of a meetup in London. There's some F1 stuff in there too, of course.
  • Over on his blog, Paul has been looking through some of the old liveries, year by year. So far, he's up to 1997, which features a Jordan looking a little bit like the current Renault, plus a McLaren running the West sponsorship that I would like to see return. Love these livery posts, keep them coming Paul!
  • Meanwhile, testing will continue today and we'll be covering it in a dedicated thread as usual. So far, testing has been a lot more popular than we expected, and that is brilliant. If you haven't managed to be around for any of it yet, then all I will do is recommend this Twitpic account. Mr C says it's his favourite page on the internets at the moment.

That's all for now. Let us know what you're up to and how you're liking the return of so much Formula 1 news and action. I will see you in the comments.

Hold on. Someone else is called Paul? Unheard of. I might need to grow a surname.

  • Journeyer03/02/2010 at 05:34

Joe may have mentioned Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado as a possible name for the 2nd USF1 seat, but Marca has been reporting today that Spaniard Adrian Valles has secured the 2nd seat.

No confirmation yet from the driver or team.

  • kerdRider03/02/2010 at 06:08

off topic i know, but why did the FIA approve Campos META, and knock back pro-drive?

Are there, or were there divisions withion the FIA that just dont like Dave Richards. Seems that way, because they also pulled the rug out from under him when they learned he would be getting Macca backing.

Aftr what ive read and heard etc, (james allen blog says Stefan GP have already sent equipment to Bahrain in anticipation) i hope Campos lose out to Stefan, becasue it will be interesting to see what Toyota had planned for this year.

  • Dan Brunell03/02/2010 at 06:09

off topic i know, but why did the FIA approve Campos META, and knock back pro-drive?

Why did they get it over both Pro-Drive AND Lola?

    Epic Failure.

You raise a very good point there. And I agree with Dan: Epic. Fail.

  • kerbRider03/02/2010 at 06:14

yeah no kidding. epic to say the least.

Im really hoping USF1 show up.

Plus it has been agreed that the new teams can miss up to 3 GPs this year.

what the hell is going on?

they ask us to complete surveys etc and prertend they care what the fans want, and yet they make a mockery of the sport by doing stupid things like this.

Im sure Campos had a good application, but there a lot people in high places because they can write a good application, but cant do the job.

i work with several of them.

  • Journeyer03/02/2010 at 06:18

Im sure Campos had a good application, but there a lot people in high places because they can write a good application, but cant do the job.

Let's not forget that Campos is a pretty well-structured team. They've run teams on many levels within the sport (up to and including GP2), and have been successful on those levels. They're not just some Johnny-come-lately.

  • kerbRider03/02/2010 at 06:18

First time I can remember being angry at the sport I live for.

  • Dan Brunell03/02/2010 at 06:20

They are a casualty of the time in a way. They and USF1 were hoping for the budget cap. It didn't happen. USF1 had the paid driver scheme to fall back on, Campos didn't have a net.

  • kerbRider03/02/2010 at 06:20

I realise that, but the FIA should have given entry to team that proved they already had the backing. Not to teams who "promised" they could get it.

Pity porr Senna if they do start. I bet he is hoping they fold so he getsa gig with USF1.

thats who they should have hired first before slowpez.

Senna name in F1 would surely get interest in Nth America back

  • kerbRider03/02/2010 at 06:22

Thanks for indulging my whinge guys.

I gotta go and play some poker.

  • Dan Brunell03/02/2010 at 06:23

Thanks for indulging my whinge guys.

No problem. That what blogs are for.

I do hope Campos make it. I want to see another Senna on the grid.

  • kerbRider03/02/2010 at 06:24

yeah me too. be good to see how he went

  • Journeyer03/02/2010 at 06:29

Senna doesn't want Campos to fold. If they fold now, he may never get a chance in F1.

Quick question... did Senna bring any money with him?

  • Journeyer03/02/2010 at 06:43

Quick question... did Senna bring any money with him?

almost definitely. Not sure how much though.

  • Dan Brunell03/02/2010 at 06:45

almost definitely. Not sure how much though.

If I was USF1, I would be on the phone with his agent. If the team doesn't come through, he gets the same deal with USF1.

    A line-up of

Senna, Lopez, and say Alexander Rossi as a tester isn't that bad. It is no worse than Toro Rosso's.

  • Journeyer03/02/2010 at 06:55

It will cost you nearly nothing as well.

  • F1Wolf03/02/2010 at 07:04

Quick question... did Senna bring any money with him?

I believe he did not. As I understand he is driving without pay but can get his own sponsorship deals. And obviously the Senna effect Campos probably hoped for is not happening, yet

    nearly done?

Not quite. Have been stymied by the need to interview lots of old drivers, some of whom are difficult to track down or are guarded by rapacious commercial beasts! Oh, and one is working on his autobiography so he isn't doing interviews.

Why did you stop using the awesome one?

We still use it for some things. You're asking me technical questions now, but I think it was just that we needed more inputs or something. What with Skype coming in and going out and two microphones and... stuff.

*note to self - leave this type of question for Mr C to answer.

Politics. Max wanted small, pliable teams or no teams at all. David Richards could have created a small team, but he's too independent-minded to be the pliable team boss Max would have wanted. At that point, the willingness or otherwise to take Cosworths would have been academic.

  • Alianora La Canta03/02/2010 at 13:05

    Quick question... did Senna bring any money with him? {Comment #25}

I believe Campos denied any money came directly with Bruno - he was partly signed on the hope sponsors would see his name and sponsor the team that gave him his F1 opportunity. It's proving a bit more complicated than that...

Not exactly how I remember it. You played Pulp's version THEN said there was a Shatner version and I said please don't play it and Janna agreed.

  • Christine03/02/2010 at 14:10

If I was listening there would of been huge support from my side for that version :D

Oooh, it's getting stuck in my head now and I didn't even hear it :)

There must ba an online etch a sketch somewhere where we could get people on the show and give them a minute to produce a masterpiece.

Found an online etch a sketch. Now we just need a technical genius to find a way for everyone to watch someone using it.

I mentioned it on the radio show this weekend. Nobody believed me.

Is this an appropriate point to mention that I have the album? Has many marvellous songs on it, including a collaboration with Henry Rollins which must be heard to be believed.

The classic Rolf Harris "Do you know what it is yet?" In my case people will stll be guessing what it was meant to be for weeks

Because my mic's one magically lost itself at the Autosport show...

A very minor #MFC thing not relevant for most but Blogger is ending support of FTP blogs moving everyone's content up into the cloud.

This is just the kick I need to migrate to wordpress I think. My problem is my legacy site. I still need to maintain that with the old permalinks. So I think I'll still have to have my own wordpress rather than hosted wordpress.

They have been around since last year - and indeed I think it is possible - he wants to join big brother on the track and the schumacher name is worth a bit in sponsorship.

like Christine my blog started as a roll my own affair. So the first 2 years are hand coded html.

Then when I joined blogger I wanted the continuity.

  • me03/02/2010 at 16:26

Then when I joined blogger I wanted the continuity.

you still hand code you own html entries?

    respect!

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 16:27

Then when I joined blogger I wanted the continuity.

To be clear the way I currently publish is that I go to blogger publish my files. Blogger FTP connects to my site and updates it. Blogger isn't database driven. It's a mad system hence them phasing it out.

  • Lukeh03/02/2010 at 16:28

    really, how come>

When I was writing up the code for the F1 page yesterday, it absolutely *hated* wordpress. Directing links to the images I'd uploaded, when swapping from html to the visual editing, constantly kept changing the full image link to just the filename and random numbers. When I'd finished the page originally it did it to every single image, so basically I had to go through the entire html code and sort it out manually and hope it worked. Luckily when I c+p'd onto Wordpress it was fine but it's done it in the past before, just not to the scale where every single image in the code was being altered by live writer's visual editing

  • Pat W03/02/2010 at 16:28

Stefan are hilarious, they probably thought they were getting Michael.

did it get worse or something? i would hand over plenty of cash for a mac equivalent.

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 16:29

you still hand code you own html entries?

    No no no...

I had 2 years of hand coded html...

Then I wanted to use something with comments. So picked blogger because it was the dominant one at the time. Blogger had two choices host it on blogspot.com or your own domain. If you chose your own domain you had to use what they call FTP. You don't use the FTP at all they use FTP to squirt the created files to your site.

That's why on pretty much all blogger blogs it looks like you are in a different site when you can add the comments... You are on a different site!

  • Christine03/02/2010 at 16:30

like Christine my blog started as a roll my own affair. So the first 2 years are hand coded html.

I am spending a little bit of time copy pasting at the moment to rectify this problem.

It might be wordpress though, I dunno? When I was on blogger it synced and sent stuff to my blog with no problems but the problems have been growing in occurance since moving over...

I dropped it before I moved to Wordpress. The formatting in the LW preview never came out the same on the actual blog, and whenever I realised I needed to edit something after it had posted I go to HTML-mode in Blogger and instead of nicely presented HTML it gave me one massive paragraph of continuous code that was impossible to edit because you couldn't find anything.

Also the program was slow and buggy, and it install other 'Windows Live' stuff I didn't want, like making Excel phone home and complain when it couldn't.

  • me03/02/2010 at 16:47

    don't look at the code...

    Which links do you delete?

various pages links. there is no longer:

    /quiz

    /feeds

    /live

for example. all of them deleted recently. content merged or removed.

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 17:44

I see... I somehow just have this thing where no page should ever move.

I wish I could just write my own.

I see... I somehow just have this thing where no page should ever move.

but why? i get you don't want to lose what you put effort into creatively. but why where it's located.

put it another way. i would be far more likely to read your archive if the content was nicely formatted and consistent across your site. than if it looked like it was frozen in time in 2003.

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 17:47

Why isn't sidepodcast.com on hosted wordpress?

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 17:51

Why isn't sidepodcast.com on hosted wordpress?

that was a joke by the way ;)

  • me03/02/2010 at 17:54

Why isn't sidepodcast.com on hosted wordpress?

good question... i need to blog all of this, i shall try tonight. in short:

    - i didn't have a mr. c to warn me not to

    - i didn't care about the blog when we started, i was just happy the christine agreed to talk with me in the same room

    - wordpress.com wasn't available(?) or at least good enough in 2007

    - live commenting took on a life of it's own and now we can't go back

    - but i am keeping an eye on p2 ( http://sidepodcast.wordpress.com/ )

there are many more reasons. it needs a post though.

  • me03/02/2010 at 17:55

that was a joke by the way ;)

    it was a valid question.

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 17:58

    it was a valid question.

Well the problem, it seems to me, is if you want to be able to build your own stuff.

I just want to mix. What I'd like to be able to do is have a part which is mine and a part which is theirs but on one domain.

For example I'd like to have the temperature converter hosted on my site not a different one, etc.

  • me03/02/2010 at 18:01

Well the problem, it seems to me, is if you want to be able to build your own stuff.

that is true. this is what i would do.

    - have a domain name and point it to wordpress.com

    - have a sub domain and point it at another server

the sub domain can do all the interesting stuff (but not blogging), and the main domain has posts. that way you have great blogging software and place for fiddling, but you don't have to install flaky, cr***y blogging software known as wordpress.org.

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 18:05

    Maybe that's the answer... hmmm...

  • me03/02/2010 at 18:07

    Maybe that's the answer... hmmm...

that may be the model for #mfc too.

    moving into the cloud

  • me03/02/2010 at 18:14

    moving into the cloud

well, our spc images/photos have been hosted in the cloud for maybe a year, and the live server is cloud based turn-on-and-offable.

    ?

  • Nick in Dubai03/02/2010 at 18:57

    ?

    They really do!

In terms of everything from SEO upwards!

  • Christine03/02/2010 at 19:01

i think christine should show us her html from the same period for comparison.

I can probably find something somewhere. I can tell you that it would have minimal tables though, because even now I still can't get my head round them.

  • me03/02/2010 at 19:02

In terms of everything from SEO upwards!

oh i see. wordpress is quite semantic like that. but it's not special in any way.

removing wordpress seems to have improved things for spc.

Before Adie's visit to McLaren it didn't even occur to me that a humble blogger could apply for such things. It's on my mental list of things to do. (So is writing down the list.)

Instead of lights or a lollipop, why not just have a man in front and to the side holding his arm out, then wave the driver out when he's clear? In IndyCar the front tyre changer does it.

I usually love cars that look like that, and red cars to me are always nice. But that... maybe it's the tribal nonsense, the orange/red undecided colour or the Bette Midler nose, I dunno. Something about it really bugs me.

I'm hoping it looks a lot better on track!

Just found a piece about Champ Car coming to Brands Hatch and Silverstone in 1978. The fastest lap ended up 2.5 seconds faster than James Hunt's in his F1 car.

  • lou03/02/2010 at 20:01

Pointless but it went quickly which is good. I had to count a waist high tub of creme eggs. Like, individudal creme eggs.

They used the short track at Brands which is why it is called the Indy circuit. I think the used the full Silverstone track.

After last nights kart outing, I have now done more (sanctioned) racing (2 races) in the past week than I've done in all of my previous 36 years on this earth (1). It's so much fun.

I'm still Luca Badoer slow, but I think I have a good excuse or two :)

  • Scott Woodwiss03/02/2010 at 20:05

Something cool I found while browsing Auto Trader the other day. I was having a search for Ford Escort RS Cosworths, and I found a Monte Carlo version. Why is this interesting? Well, the Monte is a super rare version of the Cossie, and only 9 of them were ever made apparently. It was in a special deep purple colour and has OZ rally-style wheels. Very cool find. :P

People who run sports confuse me. I am watching a football match on TV. Normally both teams play in blue but because it is a cup semi-final both have to change. Rangers are now wearing all white in a blizzard which is apparently OK but the officials decided that they would use a yellow ball rather than the normal white due to visibility.

    Good ol' referees.

I think they use the yellow ball anyway in the winter months due to this, and switch to the normal one in the spring/summer time. The away kit issues baffle me, don't Rangers have a thrid kit?

They had planned to use a white ball but changed because of the snow. Rangers have a red kit as well as blue and white. St Johnstone are wearing a maroon kit though so there may be some objection there but there has to be a more sensible solution.

i agree. but the trade off between not having to update plugins and handle security and deal with scalability issues, it's a fair compromise.

You will have to explain it to me... all I can understand is they throw it, and a guy runs and they stop, or jump on the floor and do a dance

A lot more to it than that. How much detail would you like? :D

  • Lukeh03/02/2010 at 21:00

Why do they do the haka when they start the throwing bit and shouting numbers?

  • jpancoast (Don't cry for me ARGENTINA!)03/02/2010 at 21:00

heh, this could take awhile ;)

  • Steven Roy03/02/2010 at 21:01

So one in every 6 people watches the superbowl.....hmmm

    #nothere

Potentially. To me that means it is broadcast to potentially a billion viewers but many of them won't be watching.

  • Lukeh03/02/2010 at 21:01

Why do they do the haka when they start the throwing bit and shouting numbers?

or in better terms, why do they go.. Hut hut 72 83 hut or whatever...

  • Tom G03/02/2010 at 21:01

Why do they do the haka when they start the throwing bit and shouting numbers?

It's all about 'pocket protection', the offencive line protect the QB while he has a chance to set up the pass. The numbers are code, the QB uses these to change the play as he sees fit, after looking at the Defence.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2010 at 21:02

They are sorting out who is going to go where and when

Another racing connection - one of the teams in the Superbowl this year is the Indianapolis Colts.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2010 at 21:04

or in better terms, why do they go.. Hut hut 72 83 hut or whatever...

The centre is the guy leaning on the ball an he has to give it to the quarterback but everyone has to move at the same time so the team that has the ball knows how many huts before that happens and tries to trick the other side into moving offside before the centre snaps the ball.

  • Tom G03/02/2010 at 21:04

Yep. Otherwise it's a false start and a 5 yard penalty.

Who I want to win. Only because my uncle is a Saints fan. :)

  • Steven Roy03/02/2010 at 21:05

The good thing with it is that there are plenty of gaps in play to answer questions and explain things

  • jpancoast (Don't cry for me ARGENTINA!)03/02/2010 at 21:06

Yep. Otherwise it's a false start and a 5 yard penalty.

If the offense moves it's a false start. If a defender crosses the line of scrimmage and doesn't reset before the ball is hiked or he touches an offensive player it's offsides.

  • Tom G03/02/2010 at 21:06

I have watched the NFL since we first got it in the early 80s and I have never supported a particular team which I find very odd.

  • Lukeh03/02/2010 at 21:08

Is NFL the one with the Detroit Red Wings? If so, I support them

    *only one I know*

  • Tom G03/02/2010 at 21:08

My dad used to play the game, as a defensive lineman for the Lincoln Bombers and then the Southend Sabres, but had to give up a few years before I was born.

  • Tom G03/02/2010 at 21:08

Is NFL the one with the Detroit Red Wings? If so, I support them

    No.

  • Lukeh03/02/2010 at 21:08

    Urm...

    Could be baseball though?

  • RG03/02/2010 at 21:09

I know of the Washington Redskins and the Green Bay Packers. And thats it.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2010 at 21:09

    Detroit Lions - NFL

    Detroit Tigers - Baseball

  • Lukeh03/02/2010 at 21:09

I know of the Washington Redskins and the Green Bay Packers. And thats it.

oh! The Dallas Cowboys from The Simpsons

Also, the one that Hank lieks on King of the Hill

  • Tom G03/02/2010 at 21:09

    Detroit Lions - NFL

    Detroit Tigers - Baseball

I see. My mistake. Knew of the Lions, because they failed to win last year...

  • Steven Roy03/02/2010 at 21:10

I know of the Washington Redskins and the Green Bay Packers. And thats it.

That would be perfect but neither of them made the superbowl.

I remember now actually, but mostly from the NHL games. They used to have a fella called Steve Yzerman who was awesome on there

  • RG03/02/2010 at 21:10

That would be perfect but neither of them made the superbowl.

I know the 'Packers' made the playoffs or something.

And my dad used to support the 'Redskins' when he watched it.

That is a stupid game. you can't even see the ball when it is whizzing around. I went a saw a game years ago and it is just as impossible live.

Patriots did, but then lost the Superbowl, ending up 18-1, causing a fair bit of chuckling from me, mostly because of Patriots, Dolphins rivalry, and my dad's a Patriots fan.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2010 at 21:13

  • Tom G03/02/2010 at 21:15

It would appear I need to upgrade my laptop as it's dying a slow death. Now, I've heard good things about MACs but as a MCP and ex-server engineer I'm a dyed in the wool windoze man. I could be swayed with a Macbook if someone can convince me to part with that kind of money.

    So....

  • paul03/02/2010 at 22:29

    yours.

    Who, me?

    *giggle*

  • Adie03/02/2010 at 22:30

    adie has one already.

I also have a lot of work to do tidying those top pages in time for the season. I have a plan for the blog I want to do this year, secret at the moment :p but it'll involve plugs for other sites if possible...

  • me03/02/2010 at 22:30

I could be swayed with a Macbook if someone can convince me to part with that kind of money.

seeing as andy is here, i may defer the sales pitch...

honestly though, i'd suggest hanging on playing with the ipad first. it may change your perspective on... well everything.

  • Adie03/02/2010 at 22:31

    Fair point, cheers!

Except real computing. If you want a computer, get a macbook.

I can answer this one - you'll wonder why you didn't switch before. That's what I thought after about half an hour with my Macbook Pro. The only thing that I couldn't work out was how to install programs and that was because I was trying to over complicate things.

I know I'm biased, but seriously, you won't regret it. No more Patch Tuesdays, no more virus scans....

  • Andy Taylor03/02/2010 at 22:33

You're going to need something to load your iPad from in any case.

  • paul03/02/2010 at 22:34

They don't cross paths. An ipad is a single task appliance, nothing more.

  • me03/02/2010 at 22:35

They don't cross paths. An ipad is a single task appliance, nothing more.

maybe. i'll reserve judgement until i have one in my hand.

  • Andy Taylor03/02/2010 at 22:35

They don't cross paths. An ipad is a single task appliance, nothing more.

At the moment it is, the point I was making is that you still need a computer to put stuff on the iPad and to back it up.

I read there's no Flash support. That cuts out a fair few live streaming sites in one swoop if that is true.

  • Adie03/02/2010 at 22:36

    Fair points.

Thing is, I'm leaning towards Apple. I've had such a good experience with the iPhone. Everything just, well....works. No messing about, bish bash whallop and I've heard a lot of good things about Macs...

The great thing is, you don't have to give up your Windows if you get a Macbook. Either dual-boot, or run a VM with parallels. Perfect.

as alex pointed out recently. only for the moment.

we have 50 days to sort our live streaming to work on a flashless ipad. i promise you i am doing everything i can to make that happen.

and we don't make any money from this...

  • Andy Taylor03/02/2010 at 22:38

I read there's no Flash support. That cuts out a fair few live streaming sites in one swoop if that is true.

It is true and for a good reason, Flash is on the way out. HTML 5 will be the future of streaming video. I saw a demo yesterday that looked amazing.

Until I'm proven otherwise, I think if you plan to use it for blogging, you're better off with some kind of laptop/netbook. For now.

What real computing means is about to change real soon now

Gah, I just can't see it. That thing a purely a consumption device. You can drag and drop between apps. There's so much you can't do with it. It wont replace a laptop.

  • Andy Taylor03/02/2010 at 22:42

Thing is, I'm leaning towards Apple. I've had such a good experience with the iPhone. Everything just, well....works. No messing about, bish bash whallop and I've heard a lot of good things about Macs...

Again, biased opinion, but what other company would provide free technical support to anyone with one of their devices sometimes years after the warranty has expired? (Out of warranty repairs are chargeable of course)

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 22:42

as alex pointed out recently. only for the moment.

Indeed. It's a big play but it's a reality. The reason everyone broadcasts in flash now is inertia. Once enough people don't have flash you'll have to use the open standard.

Seriously the flash advocate who suggested 10 sites that wouldn't load on an iPad didn't even notice that 8 out of 10 had an iPhone friendly version that loaded alternately automatically. Right now you can rely on PCs having flash and iPhones having something else. But shortly everything will have that same something else as the iPhone... and nobody will need flash.

  • me03/02/2010 at 22:43

    i agree (even though i didn't before).

I read a comment the other day on another blog which was huge for me... We as techy people are all suffering from stockholm syndrome. We all love the pain. We all feel this is part of "working with computers". But actually it isn't. Work is work, all the other stuff needs to get out of the way. There are loads of things missing from the iPhone / iPad OS sure. But it is the first actually honest to goodness new OS in years. And that's what's scaring everyone.

  • Andy Taylor03/02/2010 at 22:45

Right now you can rely on PCs having flash and iPhones having something else. But shortly everything will have that same something else as the iPhone... and nobody will need flash.

When the iMac appeared in 1998 it had no floppy drive or parallel/serial ports. Everyone wondered what Apple were up to. Apple were ahead of the curve and have managed to stay there pretty much since then.

  • paul03/02/2010 at 22:46

But the flash site is there for a richer experience. Phone friendly sites a stripped-down with no features. That's not what I want on a large screen.

Flash is not a richer experience than a native iPhone app... Same thing... What used to be Web + Flash for richer becomes Web + App for Richer.

  • Adie03/02/2010 at 22:48

html5 can do most that flash can and more.

That may be true now, but things will change fast. iPhone OS 1.x didn't support 3rd party Apps. Now there are over 100,000 in less than 2 years.

Yeah, it's a very good debate. I just didn't mean to cause such a storm really! It's helpful for me as I don't want to part with a stack of cash needlessly.

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 22:52

Did you read the gruber post that was referenced the other day, "On Oranges": http://daringfireball.net/2006/06/and_oranges

It's really long and talking about a subject from a few years ago. But it's interesting because it talks about why we sometimes turn into zealots. What the difference between those who think and those who try are... etc... interesting.

  • me03/02/2010 at 22:52

    Oh noes! more animation?!

really bad demo, but if you have a modern browser: http://html5demos.com/canvas-grad

imagine if the ads followed you around the page and you couldn't block them with flashblocker?

  • paul03/02/2010 at 22:52

I always take the view that when I was taught to read and write they didn't start off by teaching me how to make paper

I'm not sure how that is relevant. I don't care how the paper is made. I do care that one type of paper only lets me do one thing at a time, and only with software that that company allows in.

  • me03/02/2010 at 22:53

I guess i'll come round here now :D

I think that last year Apple stuffs were really good but just not needed for me. Now...with stuff I'm doing, they seem more important.....

    However they're still really expensive

  • Pat W03/02/2010 at 22:54

Imagine the fuss that is (rightly) made in the Autosport forums about intrusive ads and multiply that by a factor of your choice.

If you compare like for like then the cost isn't that much more than a PC. If you're a student then the prices are lower too :)

i used a similar thing for ITVF1. I could install an adblocker, but why bother, just ignore those sites that want to ruin your browsing experience.

That annoys me too. Over lunch at work I just open lots of Autosport tabs and the plough through the articles. I almost always forget to log-in (which removes videos) despite Firefox adding my details and my needing only to press Log In.

  • Turkey Machine03/02/2010 at 23:07

are you going to the joe meetup?

The one this month? Glanced at it, will glance at it some more before making anywhere near a concrete decision about it. I'd probably need a place to crash if so. Nothing fancy, anywhere with a sofa'll do me!

  • paul03/02/2010 at 23:07

ipud - something to make sure Microsoft gets its just desserts.

sadly we don't have one of those, but we will be in london for that.

  • Alianora La Canta03/02/2010 at 23:08

Was wondering about how many engines teams can use during testing?

    I can't remember but I know there is some kind of rule about it. Alianora will know {Comment #398}

Four. That's shared between all cars a team runs, but anything not covered under the "testing" umbrella (such as promotional running) does not need to have their engines taken from this pool. The eight engines per car for the race weekends are also separate.

  • Alex Andronov03/02/2010 at 23:08

it's fine, what am i missing?

On my iphone it is wider than the window and cannnot be resized.

odd. on the sim it's just a normal site, can pinch as usual.

You know how you can keep endlessy opening tabs? Well i got to the stage where i had about 100 and it killed firefox and instapaper stops the need for that....you take a bit of code and put it in your bookmark bar, and when you want to read something later you click on the button. simple

To be honest I still don't really know what I'm doing with Twitter lists, how to use them and where. So I'm thinking teams, drivers and series in Tweedeck columns, linked on the blog in case anyone finds them useful.

not that i know of, its really simple, what you do is sign up for an account, then get the code it gives you, create a new button in firefox rright click "new bookmark" and add the code to the bookmark
