Yesterday was a bit mad, wasn't it? Launching and testing at the same time is quite a push, and it's no wonder Toro Rosso suffered some reliability issues. Anyway, today we just have testing to keep an eye on, and so far it's looking pretty interesting. Keep an eye on the dedicated threads for all the info. Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're discussing:
- Talking of testing, Mr C pointed out yesterday that we saw the largest spike of traffic ever on Sidepodcast since we started - even bigger than when Lewis Hamilton took the championship in that oh-so-epic Brazil GP in 2008. I want to imagine this is down to a rejuvenated interest in F1 that isn't down to Schumacher, but... I can't really fool myself like that. Still, yay for F1!
- Joe announced plans for A Formula 1 Evening With... which will see the man meet a limited number of Formula One fans in London, to discuss all things motor sport over a drink or three. There's a dedicated page should you need more detail.
- Lukeh has been covering the launches pretty well so far, and yesterday he got to not only cover a brand new STR, but also the appearance of Rubens in his new Williams seat. Technically, Williams haven't done the whole launch thing and we've only seen a couple of leaked photographs before so seeing the new car in action was pretty good.
- This weekend's F1 Debrief went up last night, and there's plenty of fine chatter in there, including my thoughts on the new Renault colours, and shock, horror, some compliments for Autosport. We even scored the launches out of 10, and intend to do more of the same! Let us know your scores, if you feel like it, in that thread.
- I also want to highlight James Allen's Twitter thing, which is pretty impressive. we've heard mixed feelings about it so far, but whether you're a fan or not, it's quite the sight when you first check it out!
That should do for now. We'll be around all day following the action in Valencia, so I will see you in the comments.
Who'd have thought that testing was so popular? Good to see Felipe back to his best and beating Michael though :)
Now thinking about it, I think a lot of it had to do with five teams debuting cars.
Speaking of car launches, I have an idea for USF1.
In addition to the comeback of he who's name shall not be mentioned.
I love the new header
This might actually change my mind of not wanting children. Might...

Corrected.
alex... why are you yesterday's news?
:D Heh. Morning, Mr C. It's unusual seeing you up this early.
never been so busy in my life!
am assuming this is what lee is announcing today:
Scotland's Paul di Resta will be unveiled on Tuesday as Force India's reserve driver for the 2010 season.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8492593.stm
"Di Resta secures Force India role: Scotland's Paul di Resta will be unveiled as Force India's reserve driver for t... http://bit.ly/akBv3B"
- Tweet from BBCF1 coverage.
... and then there was five seats left. 2@USF1. 2@campos. 1@Sauber.
am confused by you maths dan. i thought there were two seats remaining?
Sorry. This is how I meant it.
One USF1 drive
One USF1 test driver
One Campos drive
One Campos test driver
One Sauber test driver
That is of course if I am wrong?
oooh. i wasn't counting test driver roles as free seats. am on the same page now.
Ah... Soz... There had just been so few comments since last night it was easy to read along which meant my habit changed.
and so am i :)
Yeah, Sidepodnights are not very lively.
That's a good thing, right? :)
last night especially it seemed.
but that's because I was commenting quite late
haha. to answer your earlier comment. the ipad is going to make a fantastic teleprompting solution.
Morning,
Minus 10 Andronov today!
that after the busiest day in the site's history? i'm guessing everyone just got dog-tired.
It really is! And with the ability to control it from the touch you'll have lots of opertunity to alter the script at the last minute
#confidentialfromchristine
i guess. but this week we has fulltime jobs, fulltime sidepodjobs and we're putting in some spc overtime.
blinking heckfire!
zzzz
but the ability to scroll from the itouch is probably more interesting.
Ahhh. That is very true.
I was think about it today, it really is the ultimate photographer's gizmo. You can show clients photos in a large portable screen and e-mail proofs to them if need be. It will just cement Apple hold on the creative community.
in reality yes
especially as you can attach your camera and save off everything from it

Thank god I am not shooting for a living anymore. I would go broke.
Indeed. However the cold is OK, the worst is when you get into plus degrees because everything melts and you get ice!
+20 , but the clouds and wind and humidity it barely feels like +19
360 of the this years Ferrari http://www.ferrari.com/English/Scuderia/Formula_1/Pages/vtF10.aspx

tasty!
we were bemused during the night about abu dhabi being popular. now someone has decided it was really bahrain:
http://www.sportbusiness.com/news/171698/champions-league-tops-super-bowl-tv-audience
I was watching 'The Damned United' at the weekend (brilliant film BTW) and I remarked how much football had changed since the 70's - I know it was rough but I don't like all this Champions League Prima Donna stuff :(
Morning. Are we ready for some testing? :)
I can't believe I didn't put Groundhog Day in the daily.
Fourth best Bill Murray film ever.
Behind?
1: Rushmore (is the movie)
2: Caddyshack (would of been number one if he was in it more)
3: What about Bob (which I think you would love Christine)
4: Groundhog Day
5: Lost in Translation
6: Ghostbusters
7: Stripes
8: Where the buffalo roam
9: The life aquatic
10: meatballs
Ah, interesting. I have only seen 4-6, so I will add your top three to my list, if they're not already on there :)
I thought of something else when you said that - and it made me GRRR!
What about the Royal Tenebaums?
Immediately disqualified because it has Ben Stiller in it.
Hehehe!
LOL!
And the token Wilson brother that accompanies every film he is in?
It's funny we mention Wes Anderson movies. One of my friends work for Wes Anderson for a while when he made "The Life Aquatic." I've asked her about Bill Murray since she was probably annoyed by the question by now.
Odd thing, she is flying to the UK next month to attend the world ukulele festival.
News away from testing
The F1 Commission has approved the changes to the points, tyre rules and double diffuser rules that AUTOSPORT predicted. Story coming soon
Grr changes grr.
it's that predicted word again :(
Also good to see the return of successful F1 journalism predicition ;)
grrrrr
That was the other post I had planned to do.
So now I have:
- 2009 Driver Rankings
- 2009/10 Changes in Fantasy Racers
- Points system comparisons
I am not saying that AUTOSPORT is way too self congratulatory, but they would break the word off their dead grandmother to pat themselves on the back.
I need to go to bed soon. Fading fast.
Genuine LOL from me :-)
:P
Wow, they are true prophets and definitive selectors at the same time ;)
they didn't predict james allens twitter thing though. that would've made a much better castrol rankings.
LG survey done. Where is my money?
Surely if you use the Castrol Rankings on James Allen, he would have started last year about 300th and ended up in the top 50?
ooh, how quickly did you fill it in?
hehe!
it's looong, but similar to the ones they did before so you can click through it reasonably fast.
I like that Kimi is still in the list of 'who is the main driver that you follow'
Yes and for the list-sponsors-thing I put all of his personal sponsors. Take that Kimi-less F1!
I did the same thing. "Ha! See what you are missing?"
It's not F1's fault he's not there - he said himself he had offers and he didn't take them.
He wants to be in rallying, I am sure of it after last weekend...
oh for sure, but I still miss him :(
"Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) was one of the technical innovations introduced in 2009 but it will not present in 2010"
fail.
So do I. But with him and Ken Block in the WRC I have decided I will be watching it again...
Pluggety plug - http://gridwalktalk.wordpress.com/2010/02/02/nico-get-out-of-there/
blimey. are you and rg having some kinda competition?
I wouldn't even know how to watch it here, I don't think its on TV at all. Maybe its on pay tv.
Hmm I dunno either.
It must be part of the sauber brawn deal that we mentally agreed on
ahhhhhh

Morning :)
I have realised this is my first day off since I was in Dubai. I am proper knackered!
caught up on work from the holiday?
Eurgh not really. I've sacked someone and sorted out most of the mess they left me to come back to. Alas that means I have to find time for interviews.
I looked at that tweet aggregator thingy and it seems to be going on about those qualifying more highly being given less tyres?
I heard that the leaders would have to start the race on the quali tyres.
Instead of locking in a fuel load, the Q3 drivers have to start the race on the tyres they qualified with.
Riiiiight. Why?
To promote overtaking I think..
But not among the leaders/challengers for the race win? Awesome.... You always got a bit of a raw deal being 9th and 10th I guess.....
Goodmorning Sidepodcast!
FIF1 announce Di Resta as reserve driver: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81209
i'm not sure this counts as writing history: http://www.stefangp.com/news006.html
but worth a read all the same!
They're completely mad!
P.S. Phil, pick up your jacket
love it!
or are they? you dont send that much equipment to the first race without being pretty sure someones not going to be there
Hehehe
I saw all Bernie's trailers in Abu Dhabi. I think he'd left them there in a shockingly sensible move to cut airmiles!
This is like Phoenix Grand Prix all over again!
Love the bit at the end of the badly written release:
P.S. Phil, pick up your jacket
Nope, I'm going with mad. They continue to make me laugh with comments like Phil pick up your jacket.
http://www.stefangp.com/jobs.html
Read at the bottom ;)
I don't think you are legally allowed to say that?
Yeah I was just looking at that :D
Hehehe!
Most people that want to play at being in F1 just get a Scalextric or something.
Oh well! That makes them even funnier :D
How about "slightly advantage if you can speak English properly".
No I guess "Experience an advatage ;)" would have been more appropriate....
If they send a turnkey operation to Bahrain, do some testing and then a team does not turn up, it will be a hard sell for them not to be allowed to qualify I reckon...
I think it would be a harder sell to the teams to let them qualify. They don't have an entry, after all.
As pointed out by Mr C last week, Mr Stefanovic has found his car
http://www.stefangp.com/images/news004pic001.jpg
I heart that photo.
I have a feeling they will get one...
They should just come out and say..."if there are any ex-toyota people out there who may or may not have an ignition key in their possession, you will be looked upon favorably throughout the interview process"
"Also, does anyone know how to operate the Autoclave and drive the transporter?"
OK this week's Friday fun has to be something to do with StefanGP job applications and appropriate skills!
:D
:)
worryingly, the website is still better than campos meta's.
scarily so, it looks like I built it
That's because they will replace them on the grid!
The fact that Tony Teixera (he who helped mess up A1GP) is getting involved with Campos is kinda like the final nail in the coffin!
Did you used to work for Toyota at all?
No Lukeh, you should have said:
"Are you worked ex-Toyota F1 before?"
Hehehehe :)
:-)
also, this may not be new. but on the usf1 blog:
Scott Bennett is one of US F1 Team's senior designers... Bennett also designs a line of furniture which can be seen at housefish.com.
what? i mean, everyone needs a hobby, but...

You can't make toasters out of settees
yesterday I bought my first piece of merchandise in my entire life and it's just arrived: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/00001-jpg-2
Hehehe
Awesome!
My mum got me this mini remote control rally car for Christmas as a silly present... it's about the same size as that but it's basically miniature Kimi :P
It wasnt my fault!
Hello Nick
Did you hear Michael Schumacher might be replacing Felipe Massa at the European GP? I hope not...
Afternoon all - I have a quick question... on the MP4-25 it looks like the shark-fin is connected to the rear spoiler... it can't be, can it?!
I believe it is, based on what we saw at the launch anyways
Is it just me or is that a catastrophically bad idea
Didn't RBR have something similar in 09 from time to time, unless my memory fails me. Seemed to work out just fine for them.
boo i cant sleep :(
vodka helps
there is none in the house!
We could sing you a lullaby?
Felipe Baby...
Also, what's with the sail ontop of the Ferrari air intake?
Phil saw a shadow :(
It's groundhog day?
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/02/02/off-to-see-the-groundhog-2/
Oooh okay! I'm glad he thinks there's going to be winter as it's currently snowing outside!
Yep I am in realtime, clicking doesn't on the comment does not put it as a quote, it doesn't appear.
Probably just me being stupid, everybody else's is working.
hmm, could be a browser thing. i know IE has trouble.
are you hitting reply each time, or using the quick comment button?
Are you pressing reply under the comment you want to quote? It doesn't work if you use the quick comment button at the top.
DUH! I am stupid.. there all better.
Thanks Alison and Mr. C
You do then have to click the text you want to quote yeah?
No you're not. The only stupid thing to do here would be to NOT say anything...
Yes ok
I remember being very confused at first! It's all a bit like "why do you all get cool boxes? I want boxes"
Proper snowing outside now!
I might have missed this when skim-reading earlier...
"Stefan Grand Prix...becomes the first team in F1 history who did send a 40 foot container full of equipment to the race in Bahrain without having entry for 2010 season"
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81210
we were bemused during the night about abu dhabi being popular. now someone has decided it was really bahrain: {Comment #42}
Oh well. One overpromoted, underspectated and low-on-racing sandy site is much like another, eh?
I've given up trying to fill in the F1 survey for today. The last straw was seeing the question "If a race was at an inconvenient time (too early or too late), would you record it?" Evidently it:
a) failed to notice I'd indicated that no time was too early or too late on the previous question and
b) failed to notice that I'd indicated that I was from the UK in the first question and therefore don't need to record races because those nice people at the BBC do it for me...
I'll try again another day when I've calmed down.
Love the bit at the end of the badly written release:
P.S. Phil, pick up your jacket {Comment #105}
I hope that jacket wasn't supposed to be in the cargo container...
...Seriously, could someone please introduce these people to Twitter? They'd have 10,000 followers before they could say "Bahrain"!
I don't think you are legally allowed to say that? {Comment #108}
In the EU you're not. However, Stefan GP lives in Serbia, which isn't in the EU...
How about "slightly advantage if you can speak English properly" {Comment #112}
I doubt Toyota would have employed anyone who couldn't speak English to a more acceptable standard than has been displayed in Stefan GP press releases thus far, so you could argue that "ex-Toyota an advantage" already covers this point...
Conclusion: FOTA are not #MFC
If they send a turnkey operation to Bahrain, do some testing and then a team does not turn up, it will be a hard sell for them not to be allowed to qualify I reckon... {Comment #114}
I think if, for example, Campos decided it couldn't afford to be a F1 team any more, then sending stuff now means that Stefan GP has half a chance of honouring a commitment to enter a team. If Stefan GP purchased an entry, the teams wouldn't be able to stop it from qualifying... ...but a lack of preparation on Stefan's on part could. After all, it takes weeks for the boat stuff to arrive in Bahrain.
Conclusion: FOTA are not #MFC {Comment #166}
Agreed :(
but they have an hq in Germany, right?
That should have said "should have said" ;o)
Lol Shall I go and hide in the corner?
I still don't understand how Force India are going to run Paul di Resta during the Friday practice sessions...
From http://directo.thef1.es/tests/
Translated on google - "Did you recently Lewis Hamilton out on track with the diffuser paraffin soaked green as we saw last year! Problems at McLaren?"
apart from that being awful english, theres nout to worry about, its green paint to see airflow.
it is. but no-one else is using it.
Agreed, only start to worrying when they are using it at the third of the test sessions.
true, but their times are fine. i think they're fine for the mo
Depends how much fuel everyone is running
already it tells us the ultraviolet paint isn't good enough. i cannot imagine they want people to even know that much.
or that its more of a faff to us UV lights to find out airflow?
you honestly believe that?
"we won't use the invisible paint today, bit of a faff"
aha. would make my day if it were true.
All im saying is that i dont think theres anything to worry about, especially if they're using it from the beginning. If they were using it just on the last test then i'd be worried.
i think you have that the wrong way around.
What engines are they using for testing? Last years?
Mrs C wanted to see West back sponsor F1 earlier? Well I want to see snakes on the cars again :)
Plugging today's blog post http://lairoftheraven.wordpress.com/2010/02/02/the-good-and-the-bad-–-f1-livery-from-1997/
hey everyone.. i've managed to grab 30mins before my driving lesson to come and say hello, before diving back into revision.
*waves*
how is everyone? good day?
Have you not had your second test yet?
erm.....
Good luck, you'll be excellent :)
oops. Never mind.
i should clarify... yes.. would be the answer to your question... *ehem*... :)
Your meaning was clear. Don't worry about it. Enjoy your lesson
Oh my.
Stefan GP is to launch its 2010 car at Portimao on February 25. Story coming soon
From NobleF1...
:) i failed due to my own stupidity - i made a mess out of correcting a manoeuvre that didn't need need to be corrected.. But the rest of the test was perfect. so it's not that i can't drive.. it's just that i paniced :)
it's last year's toyota.
Oh my indeed. in place of Campos then I guess.
Understandable, but officially they still don't have a team in F1. Has anyone ever launched before without an actual official entry into the season?
Not unless Jackie Stewart has his way.
:)
That is a good way to fail. Better to screw up something you know that you can do well and are unlikely to do wrong again than to have something you are going to struggle with every time
exactly. it was very frustrating.. but it's not the end of the world. a friend of mine can drive perfectly but because she panics took 5 attempts.. i shall not be taking 5 tests :)
Afternoon all
Seems the Paul di Resta announcement was as predicted
I think i've turned into one of those people that I don't like
People who wait until hte last few seconds to bid on something on ebay
It's the only way to seal the bid
totally.
After finally listening to episode 131, I now know what you meant :)
I filled it out properly because I had to tell them how rubbish some of their ideas are and I don't mind I didn't get to see the results because I don't really care what other people think ;)
People do the oddest things when they have a test. Years ago I used to teach advanced driving and I taught one guy who was fantastic. He was by far the best person I ever sent for a test. He phoned me after the test and said he had failed and it took him 20 minutes to convince me he had because to me it was impossible. I asked how he could have failed and he told me in the first minute of the test he was so nervous he drove straight through a red light. Normally that would have been the end of test but because the examiner knew anyone who went for a test from our club was more or less guaranteed a pass he let him do the rest of the test after calming him down and gave him the most incredible write up but had to fail him.
As a possible answer for the LG Survey...
"F1 is my favorite sport and is the sport I follow most closely"
Isn't that bad grammar? ;)
Awesome
Awesome
No
From NobleF1:
Stefan GP is to launch its 2010 car at Portimao on February 25. Story coming soon
Huh? Did they buy Campos?
aw that's so frustrating. i had to give myself a few moments at the start of the test to calm down, and the examiner was totally understanding. by the end of it we'd had loads of conversations about formula 1 and cars and i was so relaxed and had coped fine. it's frustrating that the manoeuvre i failed on was the last thing i did.. cause i knew up to that moment i'd passed. I put myself under so much pressure. The examiner was really sad that he had to fail me though. Hopefully i'll get him again next time cause he's very good at calming you down and making you relax :)
Wait... What?!
They may have bought the Campos entry. Would they buy its assets as well if they had Toyota's already?
I'm getting tweets saying: Kazuki Nakajima set to drive for Stefan GP.
You just have to try and treat it like just another lesson and I know that is not as easy as it sounds.
Wonder when they'll ask to race in F1 this year ;)
I think they are trying to put some pressure on the new teams by saying look, we have a car and are ready to go.
Good choice - now they should get Heidfeld and slaughter all the other new teams, but does it count as a new team?
From what I understand (at least from the tweets I'm seeing), they bought out Campos' entry.
Edd Straw and Adam Cooper confirming the Kazuki story.
i'm getting used to them now :) so hopefully i'll settle even more quickly this time. my first examiner was horrible though, very grumpy and very silent.
Yes it will. Like Sauber.
They can say anything they like but they don't have an entry and unless the rules change they can't get one unless they buy and existing team
They're not gonna be stupid, they've definitely got a plan, someones almost certainly going to drop out
On another note:
Schumi given clean bill of health
Joe says as much as well. He doesn't think Schumi would've let himself get this far unless his neck was given the all-clear.
Unfortunately you have to deal with that. You have to be able to drive regardless of what else is going on in the car and grumpy examiners are a minor distraction compared to screaming kids and drunk teenagers
which is why I refuse to get excited. But the thought of Takuma and Nick is a really really exciting thought - possibly the two nicest guys in F1 as team mates (but I do like Rubens) - I know it won't happen and its just a day-dream
that is very true. fortunately there will be no screaming kids or drunk teenagers during my test. :)
Theres news saying Narain has got a seat....so thats quite unlikley
FWIW, the tweeters are passing along the rumor that Nakajima will be joined by...
Nelsinho Piquet.
Thank goodness no one's confirmed that yet.
I never thought anything of it - precautionary yes, significant no!
I thought he was racing in the States this year?
That is a good start to the test.
That's why it's a rumor.
But hey, this is the Piquets we're talking about. Anything can happen.
not so exciting - but I will be pleased for Takuma - he deserves a drive.
:D
It's only a matter of time befoare Villeneuve's name joins the rumour list then probably Montoya or Bruno Senna jumping ship
and they have access to lots of money!
I'm surprised Bruno Senna's name hasn't come up yet, TBH. Especially if everyone's saying they'll take Campos' place.
Should I start a rumour that Klien has a racing seat?
gtg :)
Nakajima deserves a drive? Why? Rosberg got 34.5 points last year and Nakajima got none. That is pathetic.
See ya Lou
See ya Lou. :)
Byee :)
Bye lou
Best a luck
You would need to be insane to buy the team and get rid of someone with his name regardless how good a driver he was
Ten years to the season where a German did all the scoring for Williams, after his teammate went scoreless...
Well, if it turns out to be true, they are leaking drivers before a confirmed grid slot exists
It makes as much sense as anyone else who had been suggested. Best add Ant in too as this is about the only team he has not been linked with. Oh and Adam Carroll
Hi, I need some help.
I'm trying to import Christine's fabulous calendar to thunderbird.
It says the details can also be imported and synced into any application that supports the CalDAV format which thunderbird has (with a couple of add-ons) but how do I do that exactly? #notverysmart
Enjoy
Is there a Tools, Import option in the Linux version?
FAB
sorry
yes
Steven, have you see Joe's article on his thoughts about di Resta and a 2011 race seat at FIF1?
Try that 1st, [am guessing]
Not yet.
Someone's beat ya to it:
You are looking at points only, which when I talk about Heidfeld people says its more than points. Nakajima was incredibly unlucky - possibly one of the most unlucky seasons a driver can have, baring any accident. If you look at other aspects, I can understand why the Castrol rating put him higher than say Buemi. I also like both Takuma and Nakajima and I would like to see either driver in the seat.
He's willing to bet that di Resta will race for FIF1 in 2011.
but what am I supposed to import?
source?
Has Christine provide a file to download?
http://sidepodcast.com/calendar
http://twitter.com/TheF1Insider
You did want to start a rumor... :D
There's a link to Sunbird at the bottom
Is that the add-on Calendar for Thunderbird?
New user - and he's made some... interesting... rumors. Makes a mention of a certain Franck, as well.
It's a Google Calendar support page
no it isn't.
Commented
Maybe Thunderbird isn't supported
Best ask Christine
no disrespect intended. but guessing at technical support solutions is nothing but a hiding to nowhere once you've established the machine is switched on.
Good point
don't have to now.
*speaks from experience*
:)
I don't doubt it ;)
Sorry you were talking about Sato and I got my Japs mixed up. I think you can't just look at points if drivers are in a car that scores only occasionally but 24.5-0 is a massive margin regardless of other factors.
There is an onld motor racing saying that applies equally to Webber. Who needs an unlucky racing driver?
I kinda expected that would be the case and I have seen it rumoured before. I would not be surprised if he is in a race seat before the end of this season.
Getting very late here. Must go to bed.
Night, everyone. :)
Night Journeyer
Just as long as it replaces Sutil and not Tonio.
Night Journeyer and I'm off out for a bit.
kathi, my understanding is that thunderbird requires sunbird in order to sync caldav. is that true, or do you know something i don't?
We need to build up a load of followers for that account. I think it needs an on the ground story. Just spotted Mario Andretti talking to Domenicali type of thing
That sounds ridiculously close to suggesting reading the manual
Macca and Ferrari would have nothing against the might of the Imperial Army:
http://www.zazzle.com/at_at_lido_cup_postcard-239636809540108868
that is what Joe was suggesting - but Joes likes Tonio and feels Sutil is a yo yo!
ooh, i see there's a google calendar add-on available too. do you have that?
That's just not the SPC way though! ;)
No not songbird. Lightning and provider add-ons but it's the same principle. I just have to add Christine's calendar to my account first, correct? Because it's https and asks for password and userid.
Finally, I made it through all the comments.
Lively times at Sidepodcast. :)
So StefanGP is trying to kick the down claiming that two teams won't make it. Personally, I think it is a bit adventurous to guess that USF1 is in trouble. They've at least showed us something and we know they have money (#thanksArgentina.) Campos I am not sure.
no, no.
all i was suggesting was that bassano's help on this matter was about as much use as a chocolate teapot.
i'd never advocate reading the manual.
You haven't heard?
Lukeh just bought Campos.
Still doesn't have any camping equipment, though.
give me a sec, i normally use apple ical, but i'm experimenting for you.
have just installed the google calendar add-on.
:)
the points was massive - I also got confused between the Japs- my dream team would be Sato and Heidfeld, but I like Nakajima. He came over so very well during the Williams podcast - a driver I would genuinely want to meet. In his first year he was closer to Rosberg for sure. No he is not a great driver I agree.
where do you get the .ical file from?
Does Lukeh like to heat his house by burning bundles of $100 bills as well? Buying a start up Formula One thing is basically the same thing.
iCal is Apple's calendar application
Campos has admitted that they cannot even get to test their car - personally that would be a worry if I were the FIA - has Super Aguri all over.
ical uses ssl to connect to google, it's not a file, but a server address.
am trying this plugin kathi:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2313
and also this one:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/4631
Are they for Linux?
Thanks you two, I now have the calendar in thunderbird :)
Yay!
it shouldn't matter should it? xpi's are cross platform.
[shrugs]
but do you have christine's calendar in thurderbird?
yes that's what I meant.
oh good.
how? :)
I added Christine's calendar in my google account. After that I had the calendar IDs and then I could import them.
right. got ya. that was the step i missed. am using:
- thunderbird 3
- lightning 1
- google calendar add on
i have to say ical is a bit easier :)
It just works? ;)
true story :)
We choose to use linux and the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard!
:P
And because they aren't Windows, of course
Windows is it's own special hell.
Ask not what your OS system can do for you, but what you can do to your OS system.
Thank you JFK
you don't need the google calendar add-on. You can just import the ics or caldav thingie directly into lighning
ahh cool.
Sorry for going on about this but where do you get the address from? Do you still need to add Christine's calendar to your google account? Or how does that work?
am confused. i thought it was working?
Yes it does. I'll shut up now.
(I was just wondering if it would work for someone who doesn't have a google account)
ooh. i think that' what the other add-on does. the google helper one.
the caldav format only connects to google with your account details. at least as far as i can see.
Evening all
hello.
although google help does say:
"the Calendar ID will be in the form of [ long string of characters]@group.calendar.google.com"
yes but you could use ical/ics then you don't need any account details. Just the ics address itself.
How are you all? I'm Sidepodding from Glasgow airport at the moment...
Ooo...Mr C while I think about it, the latest show isn't showing up in my iTunes feed yet to download....is it just taking a while for iTunes to pick the rss link up?
Hello again, I'm home now.
Hello Adie, the Debrief downloaded last night for me so I think iTunes is OK
Thanks Janna - I'll apply the universal fix (turn it off and on again!) to my iPhone and see if that fixes it...
right, yep just the ics address also works, but i can't copy them here because doohickey screws up the urls. you can find them if you view the source code of the calendar page, but it's not really a user friendly solution.
yay just had the best driving lesson. and i will be passing my next test (i've decided).
on the subject of passing i should go revise. :)
That sounds good. Definitely the right attitude
Awesome! Go you :)
And you will.
yell if it doesn't.
OK. Thank you.
If you ever make a wiki page for this I could write the instructions for mozilla. I'm an expert now :)
LOUD NOISES!
Ahem, sorry about that. This is what I see
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/
(you know you want to)
yup. if you subscribe to the podcast, you'll get the latest shows immediately.
if you only browse the store, you'll get them when apple gets around to it.
Hmmm...I thought I did subscribe. Well I have on my laptop at home.
This is a flaw I appear to have discovered with the iPhone.
Cheers for clearing that up mate.
it's been a major FAIL since apple introduced it, sadly.
if you subscribed, you'll find the podcasts in the music app, not the itunes app.
No worries, fancied listening to it on the plane home. However, having read the post about it my voicemail may leave me cringing.
Ping: http://toomuchracing.com/2010/02/02/tmr-game-week-1-results/
*waits for accusations of rigging*
:)
ITS RIGGED!!!
@Kathi:
I do not know if you are aware that only the first hundred teams to join the Fantasy Racing Panda Racing league get the opportunity to contribute to the inter-league competition.
85 teams have joined already so if we are to have the benefit of your expertise, may I suggest you sign up fairly quickly?
Have you all done the LG survey?
Another 'launch' - of sorts - will be webcast this year for the first time. The press conference announcing the 55 teams invited to take part in this year's Le Mans 24 Hrs will be streamed at lemans.org on Thursday at 10am GMT.
Nope. You?
Source: http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/pages/include_article24h_gb.php?article=2010-02-01__4714_gb.html
I got halfway through and accidently clicked on bookmark bar link and lost it, so will do it again another time.
Oh, this is actually the more interesting paragraph:
Official LM web video??
Launch with added Franck
Doh!
I have, it's an opportunity to get a voice heard. However quiet that may be.
However, not sure if I'm an objective case. Basically, I watch it all....GIVE ME MORE! would best describe my answers. Oh, and Bernie....I want HD!
Franck!
I would dispute that, but good on ya.
BERNIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is how it is done
I might be jumping the gun by suggesting live footage of the racing - I hope it is that. It could be more like the WRC with recaps/highlights/etc. A start anyway.
In what respect? No one will pay a blind bit of notice or someone will take the comments onboard?
I'd be interested in the results, we do Customer Satisfaction as part of our service / process improvement activities at work. I'd be interested to run the results through our data models given the chance.
I agree and I'll be doing it when I find a spare (however many) minutes. I reason that if they do these every year then eventually somebody who cares will read it and react to it.
i'll be blunt. your blog is likely to be 100,000,000 times more effective at getting your voice heard, than this survey.
i believe it to be an utter waste of time.
Going by what happened last year, you will only see a very small, select amount of results that are essentially meaningless.
they'll pick the bits that suit their aims and use it to justify them.
wouldn't we all.
Yay! finally finished (for now) what I've been working on...
http://gridwalktalk.wordpress.com/formula-1-2010
Obviously it will change as the season progresses, will add new stuff but it'll be the main 2010 hub for the season on GWT...
:)
True, it's blog material at least. Thing is, you'd think that the fans would react if this was the case. I know I would.
Spectacular, nice job :)
That is the case. It's what happened.
Which reminds me...I had this reply to a thank you email from Matt Bishop at McLaren
And it would seem my comments on the 3G and Wireless coverage at Vodafone HQ got picked up on in my blog post. They contacted me last night questioning the issues so I need to reply to that too.
fact.
Love this openness.
(hearts) the bish.
Looks like someone in F1 has a connection to reality. Well done McLaren.
- matt at mclaren
- bradley at renault
- claire at williams
2010 will be awesome.
Evening everyone :)
(swoon)
Ooh, Alex, remind me I have to email you!
:)
:)
I've had such a busy day that I've only just got around to posting my blog post: http://bit.ly/cHkP2W
Crazy huh!
Do you... Okay... Christine you need to e-mail me :)
You would have thought Red Bull with their image would have been the team that was on the ball
Yeah, nice touch from them and a good nod towards bloggers
Evening
Right, they've called my flight...
See you later guys.
Have a good flight!
am logging off to finish the aside show.
back soon.
There is an aside show?
yes... there is an aside show... but only when somebody (I'm not naming names) finishes editing it...
It's like he's got three or four jobs or something!
adios
Aren't Stefan GP just lovable!
Stefanovic = Dara O'Brian, as well.
Someone needs to check this for mistakes/accuracy/usefulness: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Calendar
I'm aware. No Kimi -> no Kathi :)
Done!
If we're talking calendars, someone left a comment on my blog to mention his own calendar which features a variety of sportscar series, should anyone here be into that sort of thing.
http://baszero.ch/racing/race-calendar/
But we don't want to lose both in one season. That would be too much. You can enter now and make any changes you like until the first race so you are not committed to anything.
looks like the chap from Vicar of Dibley to me
I could add him. I just don't think he'd get too many points...
I can't be the only one thinking he'd be a bit like a mad scientist with like big, crazy hair.
Backatcha Cleo...Christine :)
photoshop opportunity?
Joe turning the pressure up on Mr C in his comments saying that the Aside is available now
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/an-event-to-consider/
Who is the guy next to him? I know his face.
Hehe. How about a Fantasy Rally game?
It has been considered. Maybe next year....
With points for who knocks down the most trees
If you need someone to test it beforehand ...
better or worse?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/stefanic-jpg
How about suggestions for the format too?
:D brilliant.
Way too much news today, but I think I pulled it off: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/02/02/03-feb-10-ferrari-continue-to-lead-in-valencia/
It's been a while since i followed rally. Hm
Laziest solution:
Same as Fantasy Racers 2008 but extra points for stage wins instead of fastest lap/pole
I didn't realise there were still 10 days before it got underway - maybe I do have time to throw a competition together. Any fantasywrc.com is available.
....
Ooooooh, I betcha a milliion quid Mr C signs up straight away.
Wow! Can I have a pony too?
You are a day ahead of yourself. The headline says 03 Feb
:D
;)
Right. Domain registered. Let's see how long this takes...
D'oh!
You did the same thing yesterday too I think :P
That means yesterday's was wrong too.
#sidepodspace
We have a shuttle launch scheduled for this weekend. There will only be 4 more after this one. It is scheduled to launch at 4:39am Eastern which if my abacus is correct is 9:39am UK. Anyway there are 4 days 13 and a half hours till the launch so you can work it out for yourself then it is not my fault.
Details can be found at the links below which will constantly be updated.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/index.html
Very cool picture i found
http://www.copeimages.com/Adhoc/TP/CopeImages_06BSBRnd3_1315.jpg
I have one of those sitting on a shelf at home. I caught it from Giovannardi when he won at Donington in, erm, 2008?
awesome!
cut-off for choosing your team on the Wednesday before the rally? (since some rallies start on Thursdays)
Make Loeb three times the price of anyone else
Maybe
Loeb
Hirvonen
Sordo/Solberg
Latvala/Grönholm
Ogier and now I've run out of knowledge
Sordo/Solberg/Grönholm ?
erm .... Wilson
That''s me out of knowledge too
http://www.wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=500
Forgot the other Solberg
There's another Solberg, they are brothers
I just said that
I don't think there are a lot of confirmed full-season entrants in WRC cars yet..
Ken Block is doing a part-season
What I mean to say is, you'll have to either go with a small field or start adding S2000 cars and nobody knows anything about the guys in those.
I may have been thinking of this conundrum myself recently ;-)
That is the problem with rallying now. Max pretty much killed off the top class.
Maybe you could have overall points and class points. Complicates it a bit though
Scarbs has added a few more interesting drawings since the Renault diffuser earlier
http://twitpic.com/photos/ScarbsF1
I didn't know where to rank him.
Can we use last year's chamiponship positions as a guide? I am not aware of many drivers changing teams.
Maybe P Solberg above Latvala? Where would you put Kimi and Grönholm?
http://www.wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=410&season=2009
Is Peter in every rally this year? He kind of had a crappy car last year, IIRC
Gronholm is a top class driver and should probably go behind Sordo. Kimi is a bit more awkward to place. I would probably put him behind Ogier because although he will be quick he has a lot to learn and will make mistakes.
(sorry, Petter)
When in doubt I always consult the bookies. They have;
S Loeb 10/11
M Hirvonen 2/1
D Sordo 11/2
J M Latvala 6/1
P Solberg 16/1
K Raikkonen 25/1
H Solberg 50/1
...and most of the field missing...
Yes with a Citroën. He sounds happy with the car. http://www.pettersolberg.com/html/2010/01/22/live-from-the-field-189/
he's in a proper WRC car, and the bookies have Raikkonen to beat him? blimey
and when I say yes I mean I have no idea
Future Debriefs could have a little WRC Kimi-update section called Slidepodcast.
No they have Petter to beat Kimi, and both to beat Henning
oooh. Wrong Solberg
No they don't. That's Henning not Petter. It's a bit like the schumachers just the other way around and with no cheating and erm...
Excellent. Too bad Subaru isn't in it anymore...
I didnt read the letter :D my bad
It's the rallying equivalent of Seb
Evening :)
i'm missing rally chatter?
evening alison
you won't BELIEVE what they've got me doing
no way?
Danny said I can have a
ponyWRC Fantasy game.all to yourself?
:)
Hello
Only about engine notes
Awww
I don't think you should get a WRC game until you have entered the F1 game
ooh, how true. is kathi abstaining?
Got bored. Decided to vent my spleen about the F1 survey thingy-me-bob: http://www.motorsportmusings.co.uk/2010/02/survey-schmurvey/
i fear the day we upset you dank :)
Apparently we should only be worried if we upset him AND he's bored. So we just have to keep him busy...
My next post will definitely be more jolly!
I miss Chris Atkinson :-( but yay for his brother and Cody Crocker in the APRC
#needsmoreFinns
:-D
i commented, and i found a hobby for dank.
win!
I fear the day both Dank and Jackie are bored.
aren't you happy heikki isn't in nick's position?
:)
I'm in a very odd mood today. I don't think days off are good for me!
I fear the month when I'm bored
http://northernwaffler.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/testing-times/
Oh dear.
Thanking you. And create my own survey you say? Hmm... Vewy intewesting...
who? #sorryAmy
i loves peoples blogging :)
hence the rally thing. i understand now.
i do question the sanity of allowing the most dominant competitor in fantasy racers history to frame the rules for a new championship.
max taught danny well.
Hush!
How is the aside with joe going?
comment was spam steven, tis gone.
exporting. but done.
Yeah, I need a pick me up.
Just had a look at the intro page to the F1 Racong survey.
A couple of points spring to mind. Why is this a unique opportunity when it will be the fourth such survey that I will have filled in if I do?
If the prizes are cash why do I have to spend it with LG? If I have to spend it with LG it is not cash. That is misleading and undoubtedly illegal. So is it cash or some voucher scheme?
It's cheaper for Danny than buying her a pony
hehehe.
OK.
tis getting a bit worse though.
*bumps spam fixes up the list*
Seems an odd kind of spam. At least the poker chip comment last night had a point to it and looked like spam.
Night guys ;)
there seems to be a trick that involves getting one benign comment through, somehow allows a later second "proper" spam message in more easily.
night chap.
Am doing the F1 Racing survey and just wondered about this:
In the winter the top three drivers in the World Championship should go on a world tour
what exactly would that even involve?
probably testing to see if the benign message doesn't get moderated (or something)
Probably the top three drivers giving a demo in Asia with a bit of an interview plonked on at the end.
Night Gavin.
I hope they have a gig in Wales or I will do an angry blog post
If I had all my F1Racings in digital form I could tell you. Peter Windsor suggested this a few times. It should be in one of the issues after Alonso won his second championship *goes looking*
Interesting
I hit the back button and lost my progress. I will have to do it another time :(
You have to wonder who dreams up this garbage. I have just started it and the questions are badly written and loaded
does anybody want to nominate a nice WRC picture (Kimi?) to use as the image for this WRC competition?
i'm trying to think where i've seen some recent pictures of kimi...
...
...
...
oh yeah!
http://www.f1minute.com/category/f1-big-picture/
not Kimi. He hasn't earned that yet.
;)
I was looking at them but thought it best to ask first :D
i stopped revising for a moment.. and completed the f1 racing survey. my one comment about it is that i loved the fact that the 2 cars in the header are both Brawns.. and both Jenson. :D
annnyway :) #nothere
oooh.
I wasn't expecting that!
There are some great pictures on the WRC homepage
Should be Loeb
I found a suitable one of Sébastien Loeb which will certainly do for now...
I have just completed it. The questions are as loaded as ever but there is one where they give you 5 boxes to write down the first 5 brands associated with F1 that you think of. I thought it would be more beneficial to tell them what i thought of their questions. Feel much better for that. Since it is in answer to a question someone has to read it.
If your doing anything related to modern WRC then a pic Loeb has to be the first option.
Time to head off, need a good nights sleep I think. See you for the launch in t'morning.
Night Lukeh
Nighty night.
see ya.
ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/02/02/an-aside-with-joe-motor-racing-is-a-religion-of-a-different-kind/
Ah thanks. I'm halfway thru the Debrief, will listen to Joe straight after :-)
Cya all tomorrow in time for the Virgin launch hopefully. Good night.
night!
night paul.
Night Paul
Right, I am off for the night. Do remember to check out One Timo Glock after 4pm for me going totally blog-crazy on the Virgin launch.
lotsa love
back at ya.
night!
Hello! I was having a conversation last week with Mr C and someonebody else about the Indy Car and NASCAR tv coverage in 2010, well ive got news if you don't know already Skysports are showing the complete Indy Car Series schedule live this season and also they are showing only extended highlights of the NASCAR sprint cup series beggining next monday with highlights of the Bud shoot out.
Glad we still have indycars!!
cheers benji. we don't have sky sadly, but it does increase the chances of finding a live stream :)
big pic pluggy: http://www.f1minute.com/category/f1-big-picture/
the Virgin launch is tommorow is it?
tis indeedy. 10am (GMT).
Thanks. I don't have Sky but I'm glad we still have some kind of coverage here.
Will we see the car or will Branson be obstructing the lenses? have a feeling beardy is going to get on my whick this year.
No problem Pat.
Yep. Tomorrow is going to be a much more exciting day all round I think. In the morning we have the first bona fide new team for a decade, not counting buyins, takeovers, and so forth. I'm not sure what we'll learn before it hits the track (unless they try something unique with the design), but it is a momentous occasion for F1.
Then we've got Schumacher, Alonso and Button testing for much of the day.
Im really curious about the Virgin car's performance with it being being designed by CFD, they could fall flat on their face with this one according to some sceptics.
It will be interesring to see if its nose is as pointy as the others
Yep Steven, think Adrian Newey had his Alain Prost stencil at his drawing board when he was drafting up the RB5.
Am doing the F1 Racing survey and just wondered about this:
In the winter the top three drivers in the World Championship should go on a world tour
what exactly would that even involve? {Comment #509}
Lots of meet-and-greets and PR sessions in populous cities and emerging markets. Possibly stopovers at various motor shows. Peter Windsor did mention the idea a few times, but he was always rather wooly about what such a tour would involve. I doubt it will help the real problems in F1 much but it could be a marketing platform.
A couple of points spring to mind. Why is this a unique opportunity when it will be the fourth such survey that I will have filled in if I do?
If the prizes are cash why do I have to spend it with LG? If I have to spend it with LG it is not cash. That is misleading and undoubtedly illegal. So is it cash or some voucher scheme? {Comment #500}
It's unique because it's the only time the powers-that-be will pretend to listen to us all year. Besides, it's only the second one in this series and the other one had a different title sponsor. The first two were FIA-powered whereas this one and the last are FOTA-powered.
The competition sounds like it's been badly-worded and "cash" should read "vouchers" or "discounts". Probably not much use to me anyway since I'm not sure LG even does anything I'd want in my house as such (I'm happy with my electronics situation right now, thank you).
I said no to that. Why send three drivers on a world tour and let the other 23 lie on a beach? Get all of them to commit to 5 dates each and send them out in pairs and you have 65 event done with no real hardship to anyone. Of course there is no option to put sensible suggestions into the survey.
that's what guest posts are for.
I said yes anyway, just to see if they'll do it. I'm thinking if we say no, they probably won't do anything at all.
I must be due time of for good behaviour for the number I have already written
My view is that all the rules of any sport shoul require eveyone to have equal treatment by the organisers. The world champion already does a stack of events for his sponsors so piling on a world tour for him is too much. Imagine a team finishes 1st and 2nd in the champinship. While all the other teams have their drivers available to work on the development of the new car whether through discussion or simulator runs the team that did the best job does not have access to their drivers. Doesn't make sense to me that they should be penalised for doing a better job.
sidepodcast is motor racing purgatory, you're here until we let you go.
I am sure in tribute Alex will have a certain hotel song for his H show
i'd rather drivers had more time to test. fans can go find the drivers, not the other way round.
You can check in anytime you like, but you can never leave?
but it's not like they're gonna test in november and december, anyway.
The only question is if I play the original or the Panteón Rococó:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dklfY5jJifY
Just to start the arguments early there is a Killers version of this too:
