A brand new month, and boy are we getting off to a busy start! We've had a week of launches, and there are more to come. There's testing about to get underway, and we intend to cover that in more detail than we ever have. Plus, we're on a podcasting roll, and there's a Debrief on it's way, with an outtake or two to be shared as well. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about:
- Renault are keen to suggest that they only hired Petrov because of his talent. Which I suppose is true to an extent, but it did take them a while to decide, and they're not trying to hide the fact that he opens a lot of doors for them in Russia, and I can only imagine he's bringing just a little bit of money with him. But yes, it's all about the talent, obviously. Still, it will be good to see how he does, and how he gets on with Kubica as well.
- Talking of Renault, we had two launches yesterday, including the new black and yellow team. We covered their new cars in the two breakout threads, one for Renault and one for Sauber. There are plenty of opinions in there, some say the Sauber launch wasn't the best, others think the new Renault livery is the bees knees (sorry...), so please pop along and share your thoughts.
- Oh go on then, you've convinced me. I'll share with you one of the outtakes of our recording yesterday. Whilst we're still not ready to be streaming F1 Debrief live again yet (hopefully soon), I wouldn't want you to miss out on the fun so I have selected the best outtake of the night and it is embedded below. Also, Lou challenged me to squeeze dumbo-flugel into the show, and I failed miserably, but we have bigger plans for the dumbo-flugel, so watch this space!
That should do it for now. It's going to be a manic day, so there is no doubt that I will be seeing you in the comments!
You mean you're looking for this thread?
It's February? How did that happen?
don't ask me, I want a refund on January
february is scary :(
What's so scary about the month of looooooove? :D
Eurgh!
urgh
Hehe snap! :D
Hehehehehe. :D
Oh Mr C, there is a slight glitch with blockquoting for IE6. When I click blockquote, it gets not only the paragraph I clicked, it also re-copies the existing text in the comment box.
Lots of spam today. Golly gee.
I'm not kidding. Valentines day is good for no-one!!!
Thornton's??
thankfully it's not such a big thing in Finland (yet)
I feel sick just thinking about it.
its scary because january JUST STARTED.
Scarier, because you just missed January.
Don't you remember? There was tennis on......
life seems so empty. I know there are f1 launches but they seem so boring. Ah well, indian wells is just 5 weeks away...
I'll keep it short and sum up here rather than post individual comments in the breakouts.
Love the look of the new sauber. Will be one of the surprises in the first few races.
the new renault looks too much like last years at the front, and the front wing is bland. Thought they may have learned to sculpt those end fences like the other teams. Unless this is for show and the "real" front wing will race in bahrain. Good theory, but if they are doing that, why did they bring the new diffuser?
I feel for Kubica, because i can see him becoming another Heidfeld and never gettign his real chance. dont expect too much from him this year fans.
He will not become another Heidfeld. He has won a race already :-)
What the heck is he doing as a tester for Mercedes? Schumacher insurance?
well, there was no official announcement on that yet. but his possible/potential/probable move there is a simple result of having nowhere else to go (unless he is so desperate that he would risk betting his future on Campos or USF1)
A race in which Heidfeld moved off the racing line to let through under team instructions.
I do feel sorry for Robert - Petrov was not as a good as Grosjean who was beating him in GP2 so we know what to expect. I fear Robert will become another Heidfeld - forgotten.
If Campos's future is anyway connected to Tony Teixeira their fate is sealed. He single-handedly run A1GP into the ground with huge debts and litany in his wake. I think the FIA may have to step in.
Not only that, I am trying to figure out where Mr. Montagny is going. Renault would make a lot of sense if their seat wasn't already filled.
McLaren actually need a good tester - Lewis is OK on set up - Jenson needs considerable help. Where I Martin I would be getting either Wurz or Heidfeld to replace de la Rosa for that role. Possibly Franck has a chance there.
the performances in F1 are not always the reflections of performances in GP2. Some top GP2 drivers do well in F1 (Hamilton), some fail (Piquet), some take risk and destroy their careers (Grosjean). Some decent but not spectacular drivers do a decent but not spectacular F1 job (Buemi), some OK GP2 drivers surprise in F1 (Kobayashi).
Will be interesting how the newly promoted GP2 lot (di Grassi, Hulkenberg, Petrov + Kobayashi) handles the step up. It will also be interesting to see how Bruno Senna handles being in Campos ...
there is probably reason behind the sudden re-emergence of Stefan-Toyota news
Looking at your list of failures - one common element Renault and Alonso. The Renault was seriously bad last year - I would argue it was the worst overall car. Buemi had a weak team mate to flatter his performance - it was solid but it was an Adrian Newy design that just happen to be almost in a class of its own in the other team.
I will argue that the GP2 success is about the team a bad team like Renault and it is tickets for the driver. Had Lewis ended up there I think it would have looked only marginally better than PK who was over-driving.
You cannot judge Kobayashi on two races - the press has gone hysterical over his ability. After a season lets judge - the Sauber looks awesome, like the McLaren so there is a lot of expectation. Nico deserves the Williams seat. Poor di Grassi - I know of no one convinced by a design on an F1 car using only CFD.
They look to be in a much better position. My comparative analysis of qualifying, race consistency and fastest lap actually put the Toyota as the overall third fastest car last year. If they were to get two experienced drivers they could be the new team that could hold onto the tails of the top four (which I am hoping will become the BIG FIVE with Williams).
agree, that is why I included him in my list of newly promoted GP2 lot :-)
"the bees knees"??
oh lord, the puns keep coming.
are you mental? testing starts any minute.
did someone mention puns :)
it would appear renault have sent you a late xmas present ;)
Ah I see... I haven't been following all of the buzz around the launches ;)
I have lost my F1 groove this offseason :(
we shall have to put up a "no ball games" banner :)
it was not tennis's fault! I blame Abu Dhabi. Or Jenson. Because normally after the last race I'm all Lou-like and counting down to next season from day 1. But at the end of last season I wasn't and I'm still waiting to get excited :(
anybody can still remember that Spanish site that used to have live timing from F1 tests ?
yup:
http://www.f1today.nl/
http://www.motor21.com/
I hadn't realised how many problems Renault have been having with their car through the off-season. I mean it's surprising that they've had to release their bee spec car already.
Did you hear that Renault are really keen to tout their energy efficient green credentials this year? Yup, apparently they even invited Sting to the car launch.
*taps doohicky*
is this thing on? ;)
Gracie
Claire Williams just tweeted she is excited as they head towards the track. :)
shoot me. shoot me dead ;)
we're going to need a testing thread. once sec.
oh Giggles, you are my favourite.
thanks Amy :)
Well you did ask for it... *looks back* oh no you didn't ;)
thanks. saves me time looking for old bookmarks on the computer that no longer works
Do the New York Times not bother with fact checkers anymore?
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/01/technology/01flash.html
is that not true then?
They sill must have Jason Blair working for them.
Is HTML5 a video format? Or the new HTML standard that describes how you can include 2 different video formats?
2 or more in fact. semantics though isn't it? even the people writing the html5 spec can't decide what it is.
But my point is they make it sound like HTML5 is the video format only rather than a larger something containing this.
i guess so. to be honest i think that's how the public will view it anyway. probably driven by youtube.
i'm happy so long as it becomes public knowledge that IE is inadequate :)
Okay :)
Well they might but normally the New York Times is uber precise. It's like saying, "which format are you using to put those pictures on the web? Um, HTML4".
got ya. html5 will probably be the web 2.0 of 2010.
I only just picked this story up so appologies if it has already been mentioned
The Ipl (megabucks Indian Cricket league) will be broadcast live globally on you-tube, probably for free. http://www.cricinfo.com/ipl2010/content/current/story/445173.html

Has anyone here watched back the iPad demo? (I'm guessing quite a few) That bit about the Major League Baseball was pretty mindblowing. Why don't we have something like that Bernie?
The lovely google translate :-)

i'll fill in the details in a sec.
I just realized that it has been forever since I've come up with an F1 game.
I am making one right now of the "Fill in the blank USF1 driver rumor press release" game.
A large and wonderful prize will be promised. Then it will be delayed. Then it will turn out to be something cheap. Then the prize just might not appear at all.
Should I put it on the Wiki when I am done?
Having read about how badly the interactive tv thing went wrong, i am amazed he even has a website for the sport!
:)
Remember to promise let everyone know how you're getting on with entries and then go skunk works on us and then deny it.
I am available and I have had experience racing in the US through my participation on iRacing...
Morning peeps :)
So much snow out there today!
25 degrees (above zero) here today
It's funny, there is snow everywhere in the world expect for the place that need it the most the next few week... Vancouver, B.C.
20 heading for 26 here :D
They are doing OK for now, but they brought in every snow making machine in the Northwest to cover some bald spots on the lower parts of the hill in case. Also, they are trucking snow from other mountains and stock piling it just in case.
ooops .... instead of "enter" I clicked on "post comment"
there is still no snow ready for Olympics ?
Seriously? In this day and age that's just silly!
and people say that F1 is environmentally unfriendly ...
It doesn't help where they are having all the skiing and downhill events is at Whistler which is only a few hundred feet off sea level.
Didn't Turin have the same problem though?
Excuse, Whistler's base is barely over 2,00 feet with the mountains surrounding it that go up to 7,800 feet.
This year has been a really strong El Nino year which has cause a lot of this.
Schu's silver banger http://twitpic.com/10tuwn
Red Bull nose.
Cripes. I hope Adrian Newey trademarked that nose design!!
Lower nose cone though...
I think it would be great prank if the #3 was a sticker that peeled off at high speeds to reveal a #4 underneath it.
As a Mclaren fan, things could be really good or really bad. They look very different.
They kept the low-ness and the fat-ness of the Brawn nose - interesting decision from Ross Brawn.
I'm guessing the bulk of the change is at the rear - not only for the bigger fuel cell, but also to allow them to finally optimize the chassis for the Merc engine.
They last time they looked like this (and indeed looked so different) was... 1995. Their first (and worst) season with Merc.
Yup I have been thinking that. The car looked and went just aweful
Is it just me or do these wheel bases look extremely long?
No, definatly not just you.
This song seems appropriate for this event.
#Random.
Watching Rocky 2 right now. I can sum it up like this. Fast forward to when Adrian wakes up from a coma and says, "Win." The first hour is just painful to watch.
Morning everyone
Morning
Morning all. Quick request:
Please can we not indulge the spam? You don't even really need to point it out, Mr C and I will always find it. I can't believe we don't have more sensible things to talk about than spam comments.
If you're really worried that we've missed it, you can always email me a quick note.
Ta.
Right here with you
thanks for the translate!
They all have Daffy Duck-bills this year
No "frisbees"! That's cool too, makes them look less.. umm... less bad somehow
How long with the session be?
Cridland, there is a thread dedicated to testing - http://sidepodcast.com/2010/02/01/valencia-testing-day-one-february-2010/#comment-669959
Would be better to comment in that thread, or to choose it on the drop down box next to Active Thread at the top of the doohickey if you're using that
What's this then?
looks like some action finally
oic thx
breaking news: AT&T Williams announces GAC as a new partner
ok, not exactly breaking...
hehe. ACDC win a Grammy, apparently they are suddenly Australian again !
Apologies in advance as I'm sure this has been mentioned previously, but what the jinkies is this thing that James Allen is busy promoting on Twitter at the moment? A collection of Twittery feeds under one roof?
yup. me thinks it's awesome. what do ya make of it?
does it work? it didnt for me
it what way, didn't it work?
I think it's rubbish.
Sorry, automatic pilot kicking in then. It's nice I guess. Especially for folk who aren't on Twitter.
link timed out
oh, and as I speak, it starts working. cool idea i guess.
and tomorrow you'll think it's ace :)
i said earlier, that it's what we're trying to do here: http://sidepodcast.com/twitter/ - but cranked up to 11. depends if lists are your thing or not i guess.
time to go. See you all this evening!
See Sidepodcast's list is more apt for me. James Allen's, well, without sounding like a miserygut, I wouldn't be too fond of anyone making potential money from my output, in the public domain or otherwise. I'm sure having TAG Heuer plastered all over the place certainly brings in the paychecks.
that's true. but you're happily feeding twitter all this information and they're making plenty of VC money out of you and millions of others.
james presumably had to pay for the site design and coding, i doubt he's making anything at all right now.
I'm sure you can ask him to remove your name from the list.
I can't actually get my head around Twitter's business model, if there is one? What is 'VC' money?
very crude?
vicious consequences?
sorry, venture capital.
their business model at the moment involves selling live feeds of data to the likes of goggle. the feeds contain your data, and our data etc.
Good point in the French feed - no one's done more than 3 laps as of yet. Probably diagnostic, more than anything, but they have raised concerns over reliability.
This is rather delicious from Mr Motorsportprint Man: http://twitpic.com/10uih8
Just had a thought. I've noticed that the cars don't have refueling points anymore, so how does the fuel get in the car in the first place?
Look at the ferrari pic, there's a small filler cap there. I'm guessing that they don't need such a big hole in the car as there's no time advantage to be gained in the race
Mmmmm greggs
Boo closed greggs more like! And the newsagent... Did i miss some big public holiday?
Has anyone mentioned that Ringo Starr was a presenter at the Grammys? Watching the replay now.
i never thought there was anything wrong with him...
i thought you killed him, though? :D
although i'm amazed i haven't got grief for todays outtake.
I loved it... I was just trying to work the best way of bringing it up subtly...
So he wants to be famous again now?
how many people read the thread notes? :P
you were hilarious, though. you sounded like one of those old-school radio hosts...
He has an album out.
Oh by the way Mr C... What do you think of the way the car looks?
That sort of thing.
if you don't you'll be missing out.
First thing I do...
Like all those people who don't read back the comments and will have missed my early morning Renault puns :)
hehe. also true.
specifically though we have stopped putting things like site updates in the comments, because they get lost so quickly. lots of good info in the daily.
That's also true for links as well...
I sometimes dive into the comments without reading it... but I do always read it at some point as it's in my "must" category in my feed reader.
we need to address that too. any ideas are very welcome.
Hmm.
You know how you have the page for the 2010 car launches with links for each car in them? Maybe something like that for that day's blog links?
Gahd. Just hilarious. :D
but then we'd need to keep it up-to-date, wouldn't we?
Ah scratch that then, didn't realise it was manual...
How about a widget on the doohickey page? We 'submit' a link and it autodisplays?
that could work. i might have a go this week.
an evening with joe:
A while ago, you may recall, I asked the readers of the blog for their views about the idea of hosting events so that fans can meet and discuss Formula 1 with me and with one another. The response was such that I decided go give it a try and the first such event will be taking place in London, on Friday February 26.
blog post: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/an-event-to-consider/
tickets: http://www.morienval.com/aneveningwithjoe.html
i'm guessing you're booking tickets as we speak?
Sounds great. Who's going?
*raises hand*
10cm of snow have been promised tomorrow! w00t!!!! :D
Now this is going to sound mad... But I was thinking if you just had a links daily then people could put their links there. But of course the problem is that you'd have so many pages. Couldn't you have a post which has all links forever and then you could have a *insert magical thing* that shows only the comments in that thread from today?
have to wait and see if that Melbourne one gets finalized
also for amy et al:
And all you non-English fans out there, don’t worry. We are close to finalising an event in Melbourne and are looking ahead to other locations as well.
me :)
you should register an interest in the comments.
w00t!
Ticket bought!
Hi. I *think* I've caught up with comments, Autosport and Joe now...
was £35 around the figure you were expecting?
will see. will need to consult with the rest of the entourage.
ooh.
DAMS GP2 team will be the Renault junior team.
Ho Pin Tung and Jerome d'Ambrosio will drive for DAMS this year in GP2 in Renault F1 colours.
Yeah... I think I said to him in my comment before it should be about £30 if you're just having the evening and about £50-60 if you're doing refreshments / food etc.
So you get 1 free glass of something so £35 sounds spot on.
agreed. do you know the venue at all?
Please let it be true! I will be there with (very masculine) bells on!
eehehe :)
What are Masculin bells? Rather, what kind of bells are not masculine? :D
bells...not balls :-)
morris dancing bells?
Um... not as far as I remember.
But I will be only a few minutes away tonight.
Morris Dancers are masculine!
you're a star :)
yep, yes they are.
what have I started?? my bad! *lurker mode back on*
no, really
You do know that they are secretely training in Martial Arts when they dance? That they are actually in fact a secret society waiting for the right time to strike and cause a new world order? Right?
not allowed.
A very important discussion!
won't we hear the coming?
But you would hear them coming?
snap!
#samepersonbutyoutypeproper
No, because the bells are a ruse for the white ninja...
And the handkerchiefs are...?
Weapons of Mass Distraction!
I know this one....! those white pieces of cloth in their hands? was that a trick question?
Sounds interesting. I wonder what they are waiting for.
I would love to quote the Guy Warrack quote on morris dancing here.. but perhaps I should resist...
The right time. Only a crap Dan Brown novel can out them now!
Morning all.
It's a long time since there were so many commenters at the bottom of my doohickey
Aww, I like Dan Brown. Still, can't imagine a picture of a Morris Dancer on the front of a book will help it sell well.
I like him too. I just think a novel about a secret society of Morris Dancers might have ended up in the 'too crappy' pile of ideas!
Morning Steven! It kinda feels like the first day back at school this season with so many new driver combo's, so I suppose there is a bit of a spike in interest compared to previous seasons.
I forgot to mention that I did record an Off Season Parade Lap Trailer movie:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/paradelapoffseason-mov
Yes I am on the beach - no I don't fall in.
i can't hear it, but i see a tv?
Yes a broken tv on the beach. It's a metaphor for the the future of online broadcasting
Either that or it's a broken tv on the beach and bloke pointing and talking :)
i likes it.
From Joe's Blog:
he replies that this will be done.
;)
aha!
Evening all!! :)
Hey Lukeh.

It's a very funny advert from NZ :D
Fantastic, it's not sold out yet, is it?
announced earlier today.
Are you going, it is a whopping 3 and a half weeks away? ;)

you should comment that. all feedback is good feedback.
what is this mad, mad world we live in?!
I'll leave it a day or so
I don't want to whinge, for many it's quite a unique event to hear Joe ;)
Brilliant!
right it looks like an office. Have drop.ioed some pictures. Hopefully you should be able to get to co-ordinared from the pic. But if not I'll place it on a map when I'm home.

Well, probably

Presenting an F1 announcement in Glasgow tomorrow at 11am.
any guesses?

They launch on Wednesday
Ah ok

Psst - don't tell Rubens but this twitpic doesn't flatter him too well...

Force India with a Paul di Resta link?
channelling bibendum?
Might be some sort of new F1 inititivie or something.
It being in Scotland I would assume so. No team would go there for an announcement
Did we know Lukeh was mentioned in the same breath as Joe and James?
http://www.stuartcodling.com/2010/01/ga-ga-poker-face/
I didn't see it mentioned..
People really need to stop tweeting about what they are going to be tweeting soon. It's very irritating
Oh goodness. I am definitely not worthy...
Little plug for todays blog posts looking at car liveries from 1996
http://lairoftheraven.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/the-good-and-the-bad-–-f1-livery-from-1996/
Is it that Scottish Guy that wants an F1 race on the streets of Glasgow?
Oh and by the way, I clicked on the link and couldn't read the text... I was distracted ;)
Glasgow? Why?
That hasn't been rumoured in 20 years and it was insane then
there was a rumour more recent than that. couple of months maybe?
6-8 months I'd guess. My guess is a sponsor thing or F1 in Schools or something though.
It is still insane. THe previous one wanted to go through the Clyde tunnel because Monaco has a tunnel. It seemed to escape ther notice that while the Monaco tunnel road is more or less flat, the Clyde tunnel like Dartford heads down below the river then rises back up and since the Clyde is a bit narrower than the Thames the U shape at the bottom is a bit sharp and F1 cars would not like it at all.
Still rather insane. We do not need more street circuits. At least not the Singapore, Valencia and Monaco type.
JYS buying Campos? I think someone should leak that
There is also the minor problem that they need an act of Parliament to close the roads for a race
Looked at the iPad...wow! Even if it is just an elongated version of my iPod Touch...
Hmmmmm.
Apologies in advance as I'm sure this has been discussed today, but who here is thinking of going to the Joe Saward concert in London towards the end of the month?
i'm not keeping a list, but i know that alex, christine and i are all confirmed.

Doesn't Steve have a photo of the relevant computer himself? You would have thought Apple would have at least one

It appears the stewards in iRacing are just as useless as real-life ones. Guess they try and be realistic in every way possible ;)
One for RG. Just heard Robbie Keane has gone to Celtic on loan
Heard it earlier. I am surprised to say the least.
It is a complete shock. It has been rumoured for years but there has not even been a hint of it this time.
I did expect a striker to go but I thought it was going to be Pavlychenko. But yeah, I do think he'll suit the SPL.
Steven,
My mate from Trinidad downloaded a 'learn Spanish' podcast and couldn't understand what the other language was. After a bit of listening he realised they were Scottish!
He will be under pressure straight away because their top scorer for the past few years got flogged off to Boro
I have never learned Spanish from one of those so I understand the problem
Well for the record, I have listened to it and they sound fine to me. Ironically you should hear my mate speak - now that's an ear bender!
Oh yeah, some Danish dude joined Celtic. The press here in Denmark have already proclaimed him as the second coming :(
Is it that Kjaer fella?
Probably. I don't care because they'll be rubbish!
The way different people hear language is very different to what the perceived wisdom says. I can go anywhere in the world with what is supposed to be a difficult accent to understand and have never had a problem making people understand me.
A very long time a Celtic signed and Icelandic player and the only person he could understand was the Irish assistant manger who I could never understand when he was on TV.
He scored on his debut. Rasmussen or something
Well, the SPL can make anyone look good.
Might be him.
So am I. Thought he was happy there? Or has he joined the team he has supported since he was a boy? :D
He was underperforming. We wanted rid of one of our strikers so I ain't complaining.
It has made a few big names look bad. Rangers spent over £12 million on Tore-Andre Flo and he was garbage. Now they have Kyle Lafferty who cost $3.5 million and is worse.
Kyle Lafferty is not what I would call a big name. I'm from Northern Ireland I'd say you would have a hard time finding people knowing who he is, or who he plays for.
the autosport forums make me laugh sometimes, but i do like this: http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/3179/justinq.jpg (the next evolution of the diffuser?)
He has actually supported them since he was a kid and goes to a lot of their games when the dates suit. Growing up a catholic in Ireland you support Celtic and either Man Utd or Liverpool.
So Rubens is set for his own TV show.

£3.5 million in Scotland these days makes him a big name even if he is not compared to others.
:D
Vennegor of Hesselink was another big name in Scotland
#sorry
Haha.
HA!!!!!
Yeah but don't they all say that?
Yeah its a lot of money for Scottish clubs to pay, at least Rangers are willing to spend money. That it Celtic's problem, the board don't give the managers any money at all so the quality of the squad has went down hill.
That's scary. Think we'll see any overtaking this year with all of that spoiled air?
just a quick fyi. stats say that today was the busiest day on sidepodcast we have ever had. that's more hits than live commenting the brazil 2008 race and aftermath.
thank you so much to everyone commenting on the testing today, i found it super useful every time i was away.
same time tomorrow?
Wow!
Definitely :)
Wow.
Imagine when Bahrain comes.
Evening all
Awesome! Well done guys!
That is fantastic! And same time tomorrow? For sure :)
have i ever said how much i really like that michael whatshisname?
I think that will be beaten tommorow, if not at the next test when Red Bull join in.
Whoohoo!!!
I'll try. I am ruined this today. Watching live timing and chating till I fall asleep at 3:00 AM does bode will for 7:00 AM work starts.
Robbie Keane has been going to Celtic games for years. It gets reported here every time he turns up because it starts the rumour he is going to sign
Kidding???
Well, I'm sure its all down to the awesome Sauber.
Rangers haven't bought a player in the last 4 transfer windows and have sold quite a few. The bank now has two guys on the board and are running the club on a tight budget. The contracts of the management team have run out and they are on week to week deals. The club is desperately trying to find a buyer.
Didn't they just sign a striker already in that dutch guy?
nope. the amount of traffic the site handled after lewis' win in brazil was never topped in 2009. it took one month and one day in 2010 to beat it.
That's weird.
almost certainly.
Yes but they just sold their top scorer
But we had so many newbies in 2009? It felt like the site was growing?
They just sold McDonald? Isn't Rangers supposed to be making all the desperate sales right now?
sure. traffic has been on an upward trend since day one. the site has been growing, just look at the comment numbers.
but spikes are spikes, and today people wanted updates. i'm telling you the bbc are missing a trick not broadcasting tests.
Thats why you shouldn't let your manager go to another club. Middlesborough are like the new Celtic.
There was far more interest in Lewis doing well (in the UK at least) that there was about Button I think. And this year? With all the new teams and that German fellow coming back? 2010 looks like the most exciting F1 season in a very long time.
Rangers sold Mendes. Rangers are in a mess financially.
Wow. This year is going to rock :)
Ditto - really helpful at work when I can't check Twitter, timing, etc..
This is typical Mowbray though. He is more interested in style of play rather than getting results and the Celtic fans love him for that. They didn't like Strachan despite all the trophies because he does not have the right background.
Mowbray almost got his last club relegated before he decided that fancy football was not as important as winning.
Goodness me, the back of that mercedes is very odd...
But people can't watch it - it's on when we're at work.
i spent all day watching a silent german tv feed in the corner of my screen. i'm betting i'm not the only one.
I never got the criticism of Strachan at all. Your never going to get a team like you had in 67 with that sort of play. Not with how physical teams are now throughout Europe and even in Scotland.
I spent it constantly refreshing BBC's half decent service, I woulda followed it in a small box in the corner of the screen is Sidepodcast hadn't been blocked at school....
they block spc? anything we can do about that?
Nah, once its blocked its blocked. Just have to find a way around it at the moment.
how about buying a domain like "importantrevisiontypestuff.com"
and parking it on top of sidepodcast?
you could be onto something...
How strange.
PING: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/02/01/f1-debrief-longer-is-better-and-pointy-is-good/
Proxy.
Right, but equally a lot of us can't do that, we're relying on text updates and that's where things like the comments come in.
Which, are all blocked.
Don't ya hate that?
Mind you, that's my job..... :D
Yay!
true enough.
Yeah, but you don't work at the Newcastle Civic Centre so, I won't kill ya ;).
The commenters need to get their info from somewhere though.
.....and from what I can tell, nobody else here follows F1
I got what I posted from the autosport forums, and live timings. I figured not everyone was watching the live timings as closely as I was this morning ;)
i wasn't. it was a fabulous help.
Comments from the testing thread straight to twitter??
two problems:
a) twitter only allows 150 tweets per hour (or something like that)
b) and it's limited to 140 chars
no problem. i do think i got over excited about it all this morning :D
no more than me.
c) blocked ages ago.
:)
Sounds like me.
"no fun at work people!"
she's at it again...
http://www.f1minute.com/category/f1-big-picture/
I love that livery.
Do they seriously have no sponsor for the sidepods?!
I assume thats where Petrov's sponsor goes?
Ah yes. Some Vodka brand then?
Hooooome :D
Heheh, I like Robert:
Q. How much fuel did you carry?
RK: I think I have never run so heavy in my life.
Another Whinge!
No. We were not as slow as you think squire because we had three quarters of a ton of fuel on board
Sounds more like an adorable joke to me.... :P
I'm still not entirely sure how I have managed to fit three days worth of news in, but here ya go: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/02/01/02-feb-10-2010-testing-gets-underway-with-massa-on-top/
flipping heck!
That's the way I took it... although perhaps not so much 'adorable' :)
Just checked Fantasy Racers, and Adam Carrol is listed as a possible Campos driver. While I would like to see him in F1, I wasn't aware he had been linked to a drive. Did I miss anything?
His name was rumoured at the weekend. No details, explanation etc just somone saying they heard he had a chance.
Night peeps
Some posts from me today, having myself a challenge (best to read in order)

Hello, anything happening in sidepodland?
Night mate.
And with that, I'm off. Night all and lotsa love.
Night RG
Evening everyone :)
Evening Sir!
Hullo Alex
Good evening :)
So is anyone else thinking of coming to London Town an going to hear Joe?
Who what when? I am off to London at some point in the next month. It's unlikely that's going to coincide with whatever you're talking about though :P
It's this... http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/an-event-to-consider/
Oh dear. That's a tad pricey!
evening
really? i think thats quite reasonable for what it is, and if it keeps joe going then im all for it, ihave to work out if i can get home before i book a ticket though!!
It is yes... I guess...
Are you around in London around then though?
I mean... I think that for an evening out of niche entertainment you are going to have to pay that kind of price for a quality evening.
Erm I'm not sure of the date yet but I have a big company meeting in London town toward the end of Feb yeah.
It probably is I guess. I don't really go to things like that. I have to confess to not being Joe's biggest fan #sorryeveryone
Even non-niche entertainment can easily cost double that. Drinks not included.
Right... I didn't realise it but I was only here for a brief bit... See you later :)
I want to but I can't justify the expense at the mo. Ticket price is ok, its just I have to add travel costs etc.
In what way?
night
just out of interest I mean.
Erm I don't have any active dislike. I just don't think I share his view on the world. I'm not sure really. It's quite hard to explain. I do have a lot of respect for him and his experience and knowledge but if I was going to read things, they wouldn't be by him.
I seem to have drinked my cider quickly, i'm not drunked, i just cant see
later chap.
Does your mouth taste of carpet?
If not you are not drunk
Nope, tastes of Cider.
I'm not drunk at all, not even tipsy. I just cant see
Carpet?
Can't see? Lost your contacts/glasses? If you wear them?
I don't, everything is blurred. This is amusing
but you can still type?
What strength cider was that?
I am quite talented ;)
Normal. Bit of bulmers pour moi.
I have washing thats about to finish which i should go get, but it probably wouldnt be a good idea for me to stand up
Ah. Scumble.
Because you have drunk so much you have fallen on your face
Another video has appeared from the source Scott mentioned, and it contains words in Spanish and under them you can hear Schumacher give his '1991 and toys' quote..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeWSuyyc2bI
Night all.
night buddy.
Apparently Abu Dhabi was the third-most-watched sporting event of 2009, beaten only by the Champions League final and the Superbowl. Which would be good news had Abu Dhabi been a race that showcased what is good about F1 racing, as opposed to just F1 hubris...
Maybe everyone was just going "ooooooh pretty lights"
Seems odd that they got the biggest viewing figures when there was nothing at stake
Oooooh pretty lights!!!
it's sampled data. how can they ever hope to claim accurate stats?
#jonsmotorsportfacts
The BTCC is shown on Speed TV
Did Nick ever show you guys photos?
Only the two or three on dropio
Hmmm I shall try and remind him. I don't really have very many. It was very lovely though!
It was very weird and I commented at the time. You two mentioned you were going to the hotel and an hour later my mother passed on an e-mail of some photos of the inside of it. I mentioned the spooky timing to her and she said exactly the same thing had happened to the person she got the e-mail from. Most odd
Crazy talk!
in winter
Hmmm I found a picture of me falling in a fountain! Alas it got stuck when I tried to upload it.... I think we've all been spared :P
I love that the new version of proprompter allows you to use two iphones/ipodtouches or a mix with one controlling the pace of the other.
neat!
morning everyone :)
of course meaning that the ipod touch will probably be able to control the iPad :)
mmmm nice... http://jilion.com/sublime/video
