Hello everyone! Gosh, it feels nice to be back around here! How are you all? Did you enjoy the Hungarian Grand Prix? I certainly did, but it’s nice to have a little break in between races now too…
Over the last three weeks I have had a great holiday – I went to visit my grandparents in the UK with my parents who flew over from NZ, then I showed my parents around Denmark. The weather wasn’t great but we all had a good time, it was fun showing them around and it was sad to see them go. I took loads of pictures which will be edited and uploaded very soon, so stay tuned on that one. Then on the day of the Hungarian Grand Prix, I had a lovely day at the beach with Mrs. Goat, as it was her birthday.
So it’s been a busy last few weeks and I could only catch the last 3 races after they happened. I managed to avoid seeing the results of two of them before I saw them, but unfortunately my Italian Granddad couldn’t help but burst into the lounge and shout “I TOLD YOU ALONSO WOULD WIN!!!” while I was watching the highlights of the British Grand Prix :D
But as fun as my holidays were, I really missed being around here, being in the comments and just reading what people were up to and all of the cool pages they were linking to. I’ve been a very busy boy lately and it’s meant that I haven’t been able to spend as much time around here as we would have liked. But being away from here has made me realise that we have something a bit special – a proper community of people I can actually call friends and I do hope that we all remember that going forward.
So why not say hi, tell us what’s going on in your part of the world and share a cool link to something we’ve never seen before. And if you are a lurker, now is the perfect time to say hello. We are quite a nice bunch of people ;)
Links
Oh yeah, enough about my holidays then. It wouldn’t be a Gavin Wednesday without a few links would it? ;)
Firstly, here’s a website that’s running a favourite motorsports blog competition. You can pick up to three of your favourites – you might even recognise some of them ;) Congrats to everyone who got nominated, by the way…
Leigh’s a poet and he didn’t know it!
I’ve had a crack at blogging my thoughts about the BBC/Sky deal – although I dare say it doesn’t make for good reading :(
Apparently the Hungaroring ownersoring want to resurfaceoring it. I say why take away all that character and difficulty? It will just be boring if it’s smooth and flat?
Oooh look, Lee McKenzie has an Autosport (paywall) column! It’s a really good one about Jenson Button’s 200th Grand Prix. It was really nice to see him win on Sunday and I do hope his luck improves a bit from now on.
Finally, I have a big motorsports event to look forward to as I am attending the Copenhagen Classic Grand Prix – I just got my tickets today (I’ve been waiting ages to receive them) and I’m really looking forward to seeing all those lovely vintage and classic cars race around the tight streets of Copenhagen :)
So that’s all from me – see you in the comments eh!
gavin's back baby!
Yay Gavin. It's so nice to have your perspective, seeing as you were away, and it's great to have you back.
you may remember laura's guest post about getting to the spa24. well she made it and she took these: http://laraplatman.photoshelter.com/gallery/Spa-24hrs-2011/G0000eaLUVjobhow
love this one: http://laraplatman.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Spa-24hrs-2011/G0000eaLUVjobhow/I000019DovCEJSVs
lara. not laura, sorry.
Great Daily Gavin. The RubberGoat's back!
That is SO sweet! Okay, "cool" is probably what they'd want to hear, but it really shows how hard these guys work and how much camaraderie there is between them.
And it's just a great picture. :)
Well done her for finding a way to get there. I love the black and white night time shots

I have a position in the security department if Amy is interested in being a ameteur dentist. The less training in actual dentistry the better. Woodworking power tools and hands-on, on the job training will be provided.
Sorry if anyone else is interested, requires Borg-like abilities. (coldly logically, non-emotional, person best described by the phase "Teeth are irrelevant")
Primary objective, extract information needed to uphold rules and regulatuions aboard spaceship. Any actual dential work done on the side is strongly encourged though "practice".
May be required to report to myself or Giggles as situation demands.
original though!
I like this one, too.

WIthout looking I figured it was the one with the guy on the hood/bonnet of the Porsche. :)
You don't think that half the crew of the ship currently work in either security or the bar is an issue?
That's it

Interesting. The FBI may have finally found out who D B Cooper really was. Unfortunately for them he has been dead 10 years

F1 in New Jersey??
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111903341404576484073501204538.html
ooh, could happen. i remember joe talking about it last year: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/05/04/so-now-we-know-jersey-city/
that was the liberty city plan though.
Really? I thought this could be one of those rumors that just disappear.
Judging from the NJ streets I've been on, they'd have to resurface the whole thing. But I'd welcome the F1 circus coming so close to home!!
state, not city. that's grand theft auto.
to me it made more sense than austin. hence the surprise when the latter was announced.
What about it made more sense to you? Curious.
bernie wants new york. new york doesn't want bernie. this way he gets new york as a back drop without closing times square.
it's also on the better side of the country for european audiences i think.
Yep, makes sense. Sounds very Bernie-esque.
True. And season-wise, distance-wise it works to link that to Montreal, but that's very practical and that's not usually how things go.
that's needed to.
Well, when you look at the Bar Staff, then factor in that they have to be paid, and the Engineer (main customer) might not want want to pay, it sort of explains the increase in security....
Second , the ACME Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator/Demodulator is an extremely heavy bit of kit that Alex and myself are trying to haul onboard. (The USR 14400 External Robotics label is just a disguise so that the non-technical will think it is just a harmless modem....)
Plus you try to handle a rampaging panda in space......Alex and I will gladly step out of your way....
ahh, looks like speed announced the New Jersey news a bit early:
Roque and Turner said their press statement is not expected to be released until tomorrow, but it is already on the Internet.
http://www.nj.com/hudson/voices/index.ssf/2011/08/is_formula_one_racing_coming_t.html
no longer working linky: http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-two-new-jersey-towns-approached-to-host-gp-event/
It looks like they have major players involved who have money and experience, so maybe this can actually happen. BTW, the Yes network carries all NY sports, if that wasn't made totally clear in the article.
never heard of em :)
And pretty close to the Jersey Turnpike and George Washington Bridge and Holland and Lincoln Tunnels so people can get over from NYC.
They're owned by the New York Yankees, aren't they?
It was started as the Yankees network, so I think they owned it then, not sure about now.
So will we have 2 USGPs again? US-West in Austin and US-East in NY? If so, all I can say to that is, "about time!"
that seems to be the long term plan. the question mark is where's the second one and this looks as good as any.
Hallelujah!!
Unreal!
Here's the map
http://bit.ly/n2rSrf
It's as good as it gets. Jersey is NY's backyard, so this is essentially a New York GP.
Not quite working.

The big problem I have with this idea is that it is on the wrong side of the Island,. It is good that 59th Street is about the middle of the circuit, but they are using West 59th instead of East 59th Street.
Why does F1 want us from "Feelin' Groovy" ?
Okay, you all want to sing that Simon & Garfunkel song "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy) now right ? :P
That is the 5th New York GP this year
1 hour 40 minutes from where I live now!
So...if I am in fact stuck in the US due to immigration changes in the UK, then it looks like I have a new place to look and find a place. I have until 2013. :)
Wiki says Yankees don't own YES per se, but they are both owned by the same entity.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YES_Network
oh. hm.
Well, on Google maps just go to Boulevard East, North Bergen, New Jersey
Well, more like 3rd. :D
One thing to watch out for: 2012 elections. That could easily derail this one.
:)
amazon have added their "look inside" feature to christine's book (for people who've yet to buy it).
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0055P118U
just click on the image, it's the same as requesting a free sample, without the need for a kindle app.
they haven't added the option to book two yet, so maybe it's an experiment.
heh.
No. It really is the 5th one. I remember when the first one came out Joe talked about on a show and said it would never happen because of things like high NY hotel occupancy rates
Interesting. Things are always cheaper in NJ, fortunately. :D
that was around the streets, right? that must've been over a year ago. least i hope it was, i feels like a lifetime.
That was around the streets. This is the second or third NJ race floated since. There have been other ideas too
Jersey cops are no fun, but I probably shouldn't write that here. I've gotten 2 tickets in NJ.
Did you deserve them?
Write to David Letterman. At least , with his problems with the Conn. boys, he will be sympathemic to your plight....
It would be nice to have a GP close. I hope it happens one day, or I move to a place where they happen.
1 yes, 1 not at all.
They deserve everything you say about them then
:)
What do you except, chasing down the cop that gave you the speeding ticket 10 minutes prior....
Nice to see Jordan has brackets again
1 was speeding, so, yep, guilty.
With the other one I was totally and completely lost in northern Jersey late one night coming back from the airport after a trip to Stockholm (7 hour flight). I had my luggage in the back seat. There was bumper to bumper traffic through confusing lights, I'm trying to read my list of directions with no street signs. I'm sitting at a red light, there is one car in front of me. There's lots of traffic perpendicular to this street so the intersection takes a while to clear. By the time the one car in front of me can turn left and I go I guess the light had changed back to red, but I never saw that because I was trying to get out of the way and avoid causing gridlock, all while I don't even know if I want to be turning left!
The cop gave me a ticket for running a red light and gave me boat loads of attitude, "so you think you can run red lights?!" I was SO mad.
No secret codes this time around although. Still happy to see the bracketaty?
Once we get aboard Jordan will deal with him
I think his name was Will, if I'm not mistaken. ;)
#notreally
Just kidding.
Chances are they are better than "Jersey Boys", if you know what I mean....
You think it then that will be enough for Jordan
I think I have cracked the brackets this time
you'll have to pay for them then ;)
The cop was technically correct that I went through a red light, so whatever. Anyway, that was a few years ago. At least I'm not bitter. :)
So, today I got a scrap book for my holiday piccies today. I can't wait to fill it up.
:D
This from the head of security who can't spell security in HIS brackets
:)
we need a chief proofreader...
hehe!
Where are we going to find one of those?

Wrong. it is a secret meesage to Kai instructing her to keep you up until 6:00 am GMT + 1 time again.....
:D
I need to get up at 6 so there is no way I am staying up that late
that's two and a bit hours time.
Phew! I'm not going to be up that late tonight.
Yes. No problem
well i'm sleeping even if you're not!
I am going to bed in 20 minutes

Recruited anyone to join you in Engineering yet, Steven ?
Hellooooo :)
For some insane reason I am awake. I have decided to get some work done.
We have only recruited Christine to be the voice of the computer and panda carer and Janna as Librarian/Archivist who makes sure all reports are on time. I think she is going to be chasing you for a report every time you fire a weapon
I think it is time for me to punch out too.....
Night everyone.
Sleep. Sensible people are not awake a this time
Night Jordan
Night Jordan
Especially not when they start work at 7 :D I can already feel myself getting hyper.
I have a new starter at work I'm doing training with in the morning, I bet I make the world's best impression! :D
I'm signing off, too, good night Steven and Alison.
Do not worry. Have you thought of why I am trying to recruit a person we believe to be borg to be a ship's Dentist - an untrained one at that ?
You get hyper about getting to work?
Night Kai
Night Alison.
I think Counsellor Kai may want to have a word with you about that
I get hyper when I have to work after having not enough sleep. I may collapse mid afternoon :P
Later all, I'm off for a week of vacation.
Going to the SCA's Pennsic War
Have the Nook (Kindle) loaded up with a bunch of F1 and other books.
Turning off the computer now and disconnecting from life for awhile.
oooh I found that case so fascinating, I love weird crimey things.
In 2007 I had a flatmate who was in her 2nd of 5 years of a dentistry degree, thats close enough to being a dentist myself, right?
Definitely more qualified than anyone else!!
Have fun Eric
I don't know why but that case hooked me the first time I heard about it.
OK I need to be awake in 2 hours so probably best to get some sleep
Night all
Me toooo :)
Good luck with that.
Okay, so I sneaked on board a cartoon space planet destryoing device, hired a person to specfically guard sick bay from a pill-popping engineer, and he's nervous that I hired an untrainned dentist.....
I declared the ship to be somewat secure, and with that I shall go bed in a relaxed mind.
I've just added myself as Chief Scientist. I can help Steven at Engineering, but I'll focus mainly on research.
Great pictures! I specially love these two:

Talking about Spa, I should probably get to work and upload my SidepodSpa pictures, before they are one year old...
not sure what to think about that. a) never heard of the site doing the competition b) how did pitpass make the list of blogs ... they include pitpass but exclude for example Allen's blogs as not independent :-)
I was wondering that too. Maybe because JA has major sponsors behind him (like UBS and TAG Heuer), while Pitpass doesn't?
but that still does not make pitpass a blog :-)

I know that Sidepodworld doesn't open its doors until 9am in the morning, but I've come to say hello.
I like F1Minute new sidebar :)
Morning all, Nick's plane landed at 06:35 this morning.
Seemed to be fairly trouble free, No.5 Tyre Pressure Sensor seems to be on the blink though :)
... while my flight tomorrow is coinciding with German Air Traffic Control strike ... ETA Frankfurt same as the planned start of the strike ... will be fun ...
he he :)
you're certainly earning your wage :D
Morning folks,
How are we all today?
Hi Leigh.
Fine, ready for another sunny day!
And you? Have you gone to work by bike again? :)
Hi Marti,
Not today I'm afraid - my body gave up last night on the way home. The chain on the bike came off 7 times and cut into the back of my leg repeatedly. By the time I was halfway home, I gave up and walked the last 7km
Great. The sun is shining, my bike to work was excellent and I'm going to my mates for a BBQ last night.
I went out last night too, so I only had an hour before I went out to write the daily. We went to a friends for dinner and sat outside all evening drinking wine. Didn't get back until 1am!
What kind of gears do you have? Sounds like you need the chain tightening...
A long walk then :S
I once suffered a puncture in the middle of the mountains. I had to walk a similar distance :(
Cheers for the linkiepoos in the Daily
Ooohh very nice
Hehee... one hopes you're not too tired.
No idea. Knowledge of my bike doesn't extend beyond the fact it has two weeks.
Does it have cogs or a hub at the back?
Oh dear.
I'm just glad I didn't bring my bike to Spa.......
Cogs
Then you need to go to a bike shop and get the chain tightened. Does it fall out of gear as well?
I'm feeling a little tense ;)
Yep
Tonight of course. Breathe :)
This seems a bit extreme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14380367
Effective though
Well, yea. Except the car is still there and suddenly a lot less driveable, I suppose.
It'd definitely be an uncomfortable drive for sure
Poor Ant: Big shunt on the road bike yesterday. One broken collarbone and a rubbish start to the holidays! http://twitpic.com/6092ux

Hi again :)
Just arrived from a pool
What happened?
Ouch.

I like that although you are doing an article about tyres you don't have the tyre angled so that the Pirelli logo is tilted at the camera ;)
hehehehe!
I don't follow?

I see. That's worse than when Jake got his iPad...
Speaking of Pirelli:
That made me smile a lot
:)
i'm annoyed. i was going to count the number of pirelli plugs before the end of the season. but now it's pointless.
wow. i love paul!
Why? Are they using 4-way plug adaptors now?
;)
:)
It did,
I thought i saw sparks coming out of one of the engines on take off, but im sure thats perfectly normal.
All in all a good flight,
BA seem to like to keep their cabins a bit warm for my liking and have no individual air nozzles which meant it was a tad warm!
Goof to be back, nice & sunny and cool...
Always nice to see some nice big trees too :)
No wonder the bbc feature his product so much on their program. I do think it's down to the people who aren't on the bbc to try and out do the people they are to get featured. I mean people complained about Red Bull being featured a lot but they provided a lot of stuff to the BBC, and McLaren have retaliated by doing the waterskiing feature and the tyre change feature with the BBC. If you offer access like that then you'll get featured.
Hmm... so you have been goofing off today, then?
;)
I am better than WinZip! I was given a 180Mb word document which I managed to compress to 1.8Mb!!!
WHOA! How?
1. Turn off background saves (the document is finished)
2. Accept all changes and make it the final version
3. Right click on a picture, select formatting, select compress and compress all pics to web size (96dpi).
You can still zoom in on the pics and they look ok - and when you print out the pages side by side they are near identical!
hooray, my parents are sending me the leftover money from their trip. They somehow didn't know that I was going to Singapore so they were quite happy to find a way to get rid of their left over $$. I also am getting a 20 pound note. Every bit helps :D

There is a certain irony that the people calling the IE users dumb were not clever enough to do their own research...
I think the shell thing was a lot worse than pirreli because it was trying to plug shell road fuel. It was essentialy an advert for the stuff available at the pump now
The pirreli stuff is all about pirelli f1 tyres, which i have no intention of buying

Due to the very severe drought in Texas and the subsequent low water levels in the lakes, they found a piece of the 2003 Space Shuttle that was destroyed on re-entry.
Goodness!
They said the piece is 4 feet in diameter. You can't tell by the pic because there's nothing around it to show perspective.
I just saw that. Bits of that shuttle are going to keep turning up for decades
They showed on CNN how little they actually found of it, so that would make sense.

Good evening podders
Hi!
How are you?
Am good thanks Marti, and you?
Fine! I've just found out that Sidepodcast has planned to go to the space to reach free-to-air f1 :P
This is true, are you joining us? You can probably still pick your role at the moment
Yes, I've written down something, but I may change it later... Do you need anything in particular?
Just enthusiasm
Do you need a SidepodJarJarBinks?
No one needs another Jar Jar :D
Is that positive or negative? :P
If you need to ask...
Ooh, Giggles Radio is back this weekend!
Hello hello!
I like how everyone is adding their Sidepodtrek role to their names :)
Hi Lukeh
It seems so :D
I think it should be compulsory
Mine sounds like a uncreative superhero!
I think Helmsman is the correct title
I like it
He is the navigator, He tells the helmsman where to point the ship
Yes!
So Lukeh's our Rob Smedley
Bassano, I hope you read back to my links from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with him and Justin Timberlake doing a history of rap mash up. It's really fun, and the guys are talented to put it all together the way they did.
I will now, thanks
Road signs don't have to be so boring. These are spiced up a bit.
http://weburbanist.com/2011/08/02/culture-jamming-new-subversive-signs-of-our-times/
For some reason the bits painted on the road appeal to me more than the signs.
Just catching up with Sunday's Top Gear. They have Ben Collins (ex-Stig) on the show. How odd
what?!
Yup, he was driving in a Help For Heroes kind of off road thing with injured servicemen
It was quite a shock. But they got the book jibes in so it's all good ;)
Lovely segment that though.
he's still annoying.
Can't say I noticed
I must say the entire series of what was this run of Top Gear was a big improvement over recent series' too. Nogthing like at it's peak but just much more enjoyable I found it this time round than it has been for a while
Well, it's time to leave.
Good nights everyone!
Quite impressive what those guys are doing
Night Marti
Bye Marti
I quite liked that tank stuff.

I knew that was the wrong term, but I can't think today. I had a bad headache.

Too humid?
:)
He usually can, but next to Justin Timberlake I don't think anyone would look like they can.
Those medleys were a big hit here. I do love those guys together. Fun.
A very good point
I think I could make Jimmy Fallon look like Justin Timberlake
With Photoshop? ;)
No, I don't know what was going on. Allergy stuff, but whatever. I've been sneezing pretty much non stop since I got back, so I conclude I'm allergic to this place now.
:)
with my mad dodgy dad dancing skills. My feet are so square you can injure yourself on the corners
Can you get a UK visa on the basis that you are allergic to America?
I can't believe I can sit on my couch and watch this spacewalk. These guys are incredible. 5 hours they've been at it already. I'm fascinated to see all that they're doing.
Can you be a refugee on allergy grounds?
It's worth a try! As my friend said yesterday about the visa rules: "Clearly they don't understand the severity of the situation".
:)
I've been a refugee all my life. The allergy bit is just an add on.
That sounds a lot more sad than I mean it to be. :)
I was thinking that I'll look for a good place to be that is maybe up near Boston on the coast.
Evening :D I feel so so disorganised.
Hi Alison.
I've spent most of the summer organizing stuff. It feels good now, but it's been a long process.
Hi Alison. Maybe you need a list, I hear they're good
Are there still sidepodtrek positions available?
What's left?
Hello everyone! have any red bull fans seen this competition? http://community.redbullracing.com/competitions/win-this-laptop-case-loot/
At least a couple of hundred
http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodTrek
Hi Nick, I checked your plane out. It was in pretty good shape, apart from the No.5 Main Wheel tyre pressure sensor
Do you plan to inform him of the state of the next one before he gets on it?
Bit late now!! :P
No. Only once he's boarded
:D
Hmmm I think we should invent more hours in the day. I don't really have any more daylight non-working hours till I go on HOLIDAY. So much to do!
We can pick our own hours in space
32 hour days
I see. I think I'd be late for work though so best not.
Gavin, i love your daily. Good to have you back :)
Another holiday? I think you're taking Alex's Judith Chalmers' crown
It's been nearly 3 months since I went on holiday!!
Ah bless, you poor soul
:D
Hehehe.
I was very tired but I thiink I saw a couple of sparks fly out the engine on takeoff, is that normal?
If it ingested something, maybe. Any feathers?
:D I just mean I don't take crazy amounts of holiday! It's August and I've taken 2 weeks.
Left or Right, Inboard or Outboard?
Not at that time of night
Right outboard
#4, I'll look into it but it was probably your imagination ;)
It seemed fine after we took off, it might have been the runway lights
Wasn't a huge fan of the pilot, major banking with close to the bear minimum of airspeed!
That's dependant on which runway and direction you take off
Ah, apparently they also replaced the wardrobe and 2 bathrooms with more seats!
There are several cabin configs and they change every few years as well
The business class looked nice, I might have to invest in that. The plane seemed quite old, but way better than the last jumbo iwas on which was lufthansa
They didn't even have projectors, let alone setback sets!
They didn't even have projectors, let alone setback tvs
Club is nice, new First is lovely. Lots of carbon fibre and 15" monitors
It's kind of weird watching Sherlock again after seeing Hawking the other night with ol' Benedict. Maybe if Benedict Cumberbatch becomes the Doctor he'll get the name chopped down to 'Who' seeing as everyone he plays on the BBC seems to get half their name taken off the show name
I still need to see that 3rd episode. I missed you tweet by 15mins
Ahh I would've reminded earlier on in the evening if I wasn't so busy earlier on. There's always the iPlayer :)
oh my gosh i get freaked out when i see him in that episode of Spooks and in Atonement. So strange.
I have it stashed away ;)
Just haven't got round to watching it
oh my goodness you must see it! it's amazing!
I totsally forgot about the fact he was in atonement!
BOOOOMM
Definitely the best out of a very good three. Very excited for whenever the next collection of episodes comes out, probably next year. I wonder what'll come out first, Sherlock Holmes or Sherlock...
he'll be in the new hobbit films too i think.
How weird, cos Stephen Fry is in both too [not sure which Sherlock though]
I read the cast list to that recently and I'll be honest, I would watch it just for the cast alone. Never been into the hobbit/lord of the rings stuff but the amount of amazing british actors in it is ridiculous
Autumn for the TV, I think.
The book's quite short, it's worth reading
Legos are going to Jupiter. (not on their own, they'll have a chaperone)
http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/08/lego-minifigs-soon-headed-for-deep-space/
I hope martians play lego too.
Although technically are you a martian if you live on jupiter?
Would that make you a Jupitan?
The film is due out in December i think?.. the woodland scenes were filmed in Farnham woods :)
oh lord of the rings/ the hobbit and Harry Potter were THE books to read at school. we all loved them :)
Aye http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1515091/
he's in the film :)
What is the point to that? Juno is a really interesting mission so why turn it into a cheap Lego advert?
yaaay! that article i read the other day was true! :)
Oooh fantastic, absolutely loved the first film. Robert Downey Jr is awesome.
I don't know the purpose of having them along. It's cute, but is that all?
if the aliens want to come play lego, they need to come here to play. I'm sure legoland has a discount for extra terrestrial beings
According to this http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2011-241 it's part of a joint outreach and educational program developed as part of the partnership between NASA and the LEGO Group to inspire children to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
I think I have solved our Uniform problem if we can agree to which F1 team's Uniforms can go with which department. For more fun, I have decide that we should include any F1 Team that existed. Here are my ideas:
Command Crew: (Captain and Senior Officers) Ferrari Uniforms, because Ferrari thinks they run the show..... ;p
Engineering: Any F1 that built their own engines: Ferrari (maybe- might be taken by Command Crew), Mercedes, Honda, Toyota, Renault, Life, BRM, you get the picture.
Science / Research : Jordan (They invented/Discovered or is discovering inventing everything too( or at least their owner is!))
Security: Shadow (All that clock and dagger stuff), plus from that TV show... "The Shadow Knows".....
Tactical Operations (Shipborne weaponary) Arrows or Mercedes (Silver Arrows) cause arrows are weapons!
Tactical Operations (Space Marines) Troops sent to rescue the AWAY teams from aliens. Has to be MARCH.
Entertainment Department: Red Bull. (Just add Vodka)
The unknown sixth-member-of-the-AWAY team that's constanly getting killed by aliens: Amon. Running Joke of Star Trek lore, the redshirt, knows that he is going to die and there's nothing he can do about it. What a cruel twist of fate. What F1 driver had similar luck ?
Oh! Medical Branch , for ironic purposes, Life !
Cute maybe but Lego are getting an incredible return on their few thousand dollar investment
That's good. Anything that will get kids interested in science is a good thing.
Stephen Fry is also in a remake of The Borrowers for television (coming Christmas) so you can see two versions of the story this year as Arrietty http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1568921/ is out now in cinemas.
i have to see Arrietty soon.
I like the logic of that. Although the idea of Engineering on a starship being associated with Life is a little scary. And if this ship is powered by a BRM H-16 I am going to ask for a transfer to the panda caring department
Arrierty looks lovely. Although I feel very stupid that I was convinced for ages it was out in 2012... despite a trailer in the cinema and Lou insisting it wasn't...
#stubbornfool
That are Super 8 are two must see films right now I reckons. Really want to see them.
I think you need to put that lot in the wiki.
If we are going to have towels on the uniforms we should have them as capes because Christine wanted a superhero cape for something
I am watching him in Jeeves and Wooster on the ITV player right now. He is everywhere
Is that positive or negative? :P
I think "Jar" is Gungan for "Will", Marti.... care to reevaluate your postion in the crew, I do believe that we really need a helmsman or pilot or whatever is the title of the person who steers this thing....
Driver?
oh super 8 is meant to be wonderful. it's on my list so far which is
1. Cars 2
2. Arrietty
3. Sarah's keys
4. Super 8
I forgot about Cars 2! How could I forget?
Yeah, I just released that Life is just too perfect a team for the Medical Department for that same reasons that it is pushing fate with Engineering, but they where used as examples. I thought that now you would have grabbed "Renault" and ran with it.....
Did Climax have a team? Did Vanwall make engines ? How do you like the name of Auto Union for Engineering?
i kinda wanna watch captain america too... just cause Richard Armitage is in it. and he's awesome.
You know on Gold the other day they had one of the later episodes of Red Dwarf when the Vicar got married and I sat there for ages trying to work out where I recognised who she had fallen in love with... felt so slow when the credits ran up and it was richard flippin' armitage
Ohhhh not red dwarf... the vicar of dibley...
One day I'll learn to proofread.
ahhh Pamela and i still think there were cushions under the building. there is no way he isn't in spooks anymore. i can't cope without him. lol
There was once an episode of The Office where Michael threatened to jump off a building and into a big bouncy castle.
I choose to vote there was a bouncy castle behind the Spooks building.
Coventry Climax engines were originally used on fire engine pumps odd as that may seem. They only ever supplied engines and never had a team
Vanwall made some engines that were designed by a Norton bike engine designer and were based on one of those engines
Auto Union was very innovative and evil handling. I think a starship that was ludicrously quick and handled horribly has potential
I was scratching my head trying to remember a vicar in Red Dwarf
enjoy: http://cluedb.com/clue/popular/
via @mattcutts
I think we should run the starship based on those
YES!
Just been watching the sky sports video with tony jardine talking about F1 on Sky. Those presenters are... ugh. The whole video made me feel a little bit stupider.
Also, I would love to know who fernandes is driving for seeing as he is one of the apparently up and coming names this season in the sport according to tony jardine. Don't make me dislike you tony :(
Okay. Have updated the uniform section of the wiki for SidepodTrek. We should make a poll or something for the departments with optional uniform schemes.
He doesn't need to make me dislike him. I have many years start on him.
If only we had a photoshop expert who could do us a few uniform illustrations
wut?
Oh, yes, if Eric the baker is leaving us for a couple of weeks who is in charge of logictics cause I would not mind knowning how much food I am supposed to be guarding and when are we going down to half-rations.....
This is what I was watching
Is there an opening for marine colonel? Or section 42?
Enterprise season2 / Ds9 season ???
I am sure the navigator can plot you a course to find this person, it is more a question of who is to steer us to such a person.... :P
We don't have one so there must be an openeing
Whaaatttt? Pele is in the 23 man squad to play for Santos in the Club World Cup... as in *the* Pele. He's 71!!!
I think he meant Fernando ALonso.
Jardine annoys me
That is mental
or so the plans are going, it looks likely. Santos have invited him to be part of their squad and it looks like it's going to happen...
i thought perez?
See I thought so too but would you say fernando is an up and coming name in the sport?
dare i ask who the lady is, who not only is clueless, but also struggles with reading at loud?
Could be
If you want that position, you have to take ordersfrom me and Giggles, plus you need to make sure that Steven just has his rationed number of yellow pills...... I think I have Amy assisting you, on AWAY party rescue missions, so careful which Borgs you aim at....
Furthermore, should you require heavy artillery on these rescue missions, myself or Giggles are standing by on the battle bridge.....
See, guys, I have everything planned out.... Like a Tactical Officer / Head of Security should....
One of the sky sports news presenters. They're absolutely terrible, the lot of them
But he didn't go into any detail on 'Fernandes' like he did on the others he mentioned
Well I think Fernandes has had a quiet season. he needs to make a name for himself.
....literally.
Evening. No offence to LPG who did a fine job, but ah, I've missed Gavin. :)
I have been spending much of this week with my sister who has been visiting from Spain, plus an assortment of other relatives (and I had to work a bit too).
Big Thai meal on Saturday, nice trifle and gateau at my grandparents' on Sunday, worked it off with very many rollercoaster rides at Thorpe Park on Monday (don't do that unless you want motion sickness) and a couple of relaxing evenings since. Pretty good week so far.
Rollercoasters count as exercise?
These do with those g-forces. :)
I think I need evidence of that
We have a photo where we're all clenching our teeth on the Saw ride as the camera is just after a fast tight turn, but I don't really want to put it on the internet as it is quite embarrassing..
Who ever heard of putting embarrassing photos on the net?
:)
Well I look like an idiot, which I don't mind as I can take it, but really what we didn't know until after buying the photo is that my sister's skirt is riding up.. just a little and certainly still more modest than half the girls in the park on the day but enough that I won't be popular if I put it online :)
