Hello one and all! I have missed you, and I have missed writing these little posts every night. We have only been away a few days but we are back... sort of. Check out our explanation of what went wrong for us last week, and what we're doing to try and fix it here. Now, on with the good stuff.

  • Some quotes were doing the rounds today, supposedly from the mouth of Massa but it looks as though they were not things he actually said. The man himself is reported to be doing his first interview since his accident today at some point, and that will be an excellent thing to read, to confirm that he is getting better and better every day.
  • Peter Sauber has confirmed that he will do his level best to find a solution for BMW, to save hundreds of employees finding themselves out of a job. Sauber admits he can only advise the BMW board and the final decision will be theirs, but he is on the hunt for possible routes to salvation, even if time is short.
  • And finally, the Concorde Agreement has been signed, after months and months of talking about it. As Steven has pointed out in the comments, this should calm the politics down a little. I'm surprised the agreement only runs until 2012, but perhaps long-term thinking isn't too advisable at the moment. I can relate to that!

So, there you have it, a return to the daily posts as we know and love them. That means it must be time for me to wheel out that old phrase, I'll see you in the comments.

Good to have them and, of course, you wonderful guys back!

Peter Sauber still owns 20% of the team

Peter Sauber still owns 20% of the team

    i.e. a minority stake.

  • Lukeh02/08/2009 at 23:06

I gotsa admit, I reeeeeeally want to see Sauber buy out the team. I'm not even a big BMW fan, or even a big Sauber fan back when they were around, I'm just living on hope him buying out the team will see the return of the gorgeous blue and turqiouse livery they had ;)

ah i see... it's just the written 'by me' that confused me i think cause i haven't noticed it not saying 'by Christine' before. :)

so it's mainly for speed then? i'm not sure i like this non-shifted way of typing. i've always been a bit of a stickler for correct spelling, grammar and punctuation, this is a bit weird.

i have no idea why. i think i prefer the look of lower-cased text tbh.

steven, whilst i was in wordpress, i changed the sauber line to:

"Sauber admits he can only advise the BMW board..."

    is that more accurate?

"They were smart enough to place the machine in one of the few spots in the hotel where there was no security camera to catch them"

    wouldn't the hotel have noticed?

  • Steven Roy02/08/2009 at 23:22

    is that more accurate?

I think it is probably accurate either way. I was just making the point that he has a degree of ownership.

I am not sure what rights he has as a minor shareholder. If the team goes bust BMW get nothing but bad publicity so it would make sense for them to give him or Theissen the balance of the team. Since BMW paid him well no doubt they would expect at least a percentage of that back.

  • Andy Taylor02/08/2009 at 23:26

    Rothmans Williams for the win!

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 00:07

    Rothmans Williams for the win!

Nothing beats JPS. It's the law. No-one ever asked to have their car painted Rothmans Williams. People who knew nothing about F1 never called a car painted in that livery black and gold. They called it JPS and there were a lot of them around.

The first Jordan needs a mention and the classic McLaren Marlboro too.

  • Lukeh03/08/2009 at 00:09

Was gonna put in the McLaren Malboro. So close.

I also reaaaaaaaaaally like the Stewart F1 car.

Does it depend on 'your' era though? I mean for me, as a Williams fan who started to get heavily into F1 in the late 90s, that car and livery means a lot to me...

I have to agree with pat in this example. We're bound to remember the liveries of cars we saw in the era we got into f1 in comparison to those before that, like I can visualise so many different liveries in the late 90s and beyond but before that it's a different story.

I wish the Winfield Williams was before when I got into f1. That car did nasty things to the most colour of all the colours, red. :(

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 00:18

The thing with JPS was it was everywhere. People got their cars painted in it. People who had no idea what JPS was or that Lotus was even involved used to refer to that livery as JPS. I even had an English teacher who had a picture of a JPS Lotus on his class room wall. Imagine the trouble he would get in for that now.

Maybe. Some people probably think the "chrome" type McLarens are cool. I just don't think you can go past the JPS. Classic, and would still be the best today.

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 00:19

Just found out the sky at night is on BBC1. They are nicking my sidepodradio show stuff. I cam so close to claiming Patrick Moore was copying me.

I think the fashion for people painting their own cars, by the 90s that had moved into rally cars and touring cars.

  • Lukeh03/08/2009 at 00:24

Hahahahahahahaha. Aww man. That was fantastically evil. Must share this quick story.

There's a Muse song being played for the first time tonight on Radio 1, and on digital download from 12midnight Aug 3rd (tonight? tomorrow?) but basically, in New Zealand the song has become avilable to purchase and download because of time zones and the like. So on a Muse forum I go on, there's load and loads of fans waiting and crying out for someone to chuck it on youtube, etc, then a new topic appears with a link saying 'THIS IS IT! You wanted it...'

    ....it was Rick Astley. :D:D:D:D:D

    The reaction is wonderful.

  • Pat W03/08/2009 at 00:24

I wish the Winfield Williams was before when I got into f1. That car did nasty things to the most colour of all the colours, red. :(

It wasn't a good look. Murray Walker described it as putting all the logos in a cannon and shooting it at the car!

  • Pat W03/08/2009 at 00:26

    The reaction is wonderful.

    I can imagine!

    Seems a flawed system though..

who the heck would buy that??

    I was joking sorry ;)

  • Journeyer03/08/2009 at 10:18

All the thinking we’ve done so far, anyways.

Very intriguing. I was thinking you might've had a more concrete idea. Still, there's a LOT of directions you can take that set of ideas. Would love to hear more about it as the concept grows.

  • Sean Golding03/08/2009 at 10:20

That IS the new idea. All the thinking we've done so far, anyways.

Whatever it turns out to be, make sure it has a doohickey. ;)

  • Bassano Clapper03/08/2009 at 10:20

Morning everyone. I don't believe there will be any moths or pigs today. But instead we are going to the supermarket. A bit of a step down in the excitement stakes!

    More cider already?

  • Bassano Clapper03/08/2009 at 10:26

Whatever it turns out to be, make sure it has a doohickey. ;)

That's a difficult one to mention in a business plan.

You see, we must have a kajillion pounds because of the importance of a working doohickey, Mr Bank Manager

  • Journeyer03/08/2009 at 10:27

Whatever it turns out to be, make sure it has a doohickey.

Mr C said yesterday that not only would it have a Doohickey, it would probably be a better one because they won't be hindered by the Wordpress backend.

From what I understand, they're developing the new site from scratch.

  • me03/08/2009 at 10:27

    correct.

    correct.

we're also redesigning the homepage here too, probably as a proof-of-concept for the new site. in theory everything will one day be running on the same custom system.

  • Bassano Clapper03/08/2009 at 10:30

Mr C said yesterday that not only would it have a Doohickey, it would probably be a better one because they won't be hindered by the Wordpress backend.

    Another difficult question arises:

Does my new backend look big in this?

  • me03/08/2009 at 10:31

    :D

  • Christine03/08/2009 at 10:31

From what I understand, they're developing the new site from scratch.

Mr C was quite excited about the thought of not having to develop on Wordpress for it. I was quite excited that I get to buy a new notepad and pen for it.

    We make a great team.

Massa's on Sky News (or at least was). Pic: http://img193.imageshack.us/i/massan.jpg/

And Massa interview from Scuderia Ferrari:

Maranello, August 3 2009 - Felipe Massa has left Budapest this morning at a time of São Paulo in Brazil, which will arrive in the evening. Together with the Brazilian pilot moving his wife Raffaela and its medical staff Dino Altmann and the rest of the family had preceded him yesterday afternoon.

Before being discharged from AEK where he had been hospitalized after the accident occorsogli in the qualifications of the Grand Prix of Hungary, Felipe has granted an exclusive interview at the site of Ferrari.

How do you feel? What do you remember the accident?

'It is a feeling a little' strange. I know exactly what happened, that come off a spring from the car of Rubens struck me on the helmet. I know that something has happened to me but I did not hear anything when it happened. They told me that I have lost knowledge at the time of the spring on the helmet and finished against the barriers then I woke up two days later in hospital. I have memories and I am explaining all that has been done by doctors. When I saw Rob (Smedley, his engineer engineer, ndr), asked me if I remembered to Rubens but the last thing I was reminded of it when I found him at the end of the timed lap in Q2 but then there is no more. I repeat, is a difficult feeling to explain. Now I feel much better and I want to heal in the shortest possible time to get back on track as soon as the wheel of a Ferrari. "

    Want to thank someone?

"Firstly, I want to thank God And the doctors on the track and the hospital in Budapest that AEK have done so much for me and Dino Altmann, who came from Brazil with my family and it was extraordinary in those days. My thanks also to everyone who prayed for me, which I have written through my site and that of Ferrari and had hoped that everything goes according to plan. There have been many, even people who perhaps are not interested in Formula 1 but I knew what had happened: I want to thank them and tell them that I pray for them. I too would have done the same thing if an accident had happened to another pilot would have prayed for him, because everything would end well. "

As it was very helpful to have family by your side in these days?

"My family is very important to me. I have always been with me throughout my career, the victories and defeats and in the most difficult moments. In Budapest there was only Eduardo but when the incident happened, everyone - Raffaela, my father, my mother and my sister - have flown to Hungary. Who have suffered so much and I want to thank them for having been close. And then there is another family that I have to thank the Ferrari family have been fantastic, we have helped in every way and be part of this group gives me so much emotion. "

What will be your desire when you first arrived in Brazil?

"Back in my home, see if everything is as before. There are so many things happened in these days and I want to return to a normal life. Recover the best condition, do the things you do every day. "

Now your machine will be for a while 'to Michael Schumacher: What advice do you feel for him?

"Michael does not need my advice! Rather he gave me many suggestions for my career when running together. Sa win, sa great drive and is: was the best choice, giving the car a fantastic person and I am sure that everybody will be happy to see him return to racing. But I hope so to be able to return to the track with Ferrari as soon as possible! "

"There is a brazilian newspaper reporting that Nelson Piquet Sr and Peter Sauber are buying the BMW Sauber team. The report also states that - yes, you got it, Nelsinho will be one of the drivers in 2010."

"this is from the "Estado de Sao Paulo" newspaper, which is not a tabloid. Not a sports-focused publication, but certainly a decent and reliable source. The reporter is Livio Orichio, who has always followed F1 very closely for many years and frequently writes about the topic"

you can play them on anything that supports m4a files. which are basically a more efficient form of mp3's. they're not drm'd though.

if you buy it off normal itunes, you burn it onto a cd, then burn it off using real player which converts it to mp3.

    s'how i do it anywho

it just told me off for telling it I am in NZ when I am not in NZ. Clearly I haven't used the iTunes store since 2007 when my flatmate worked for Apple and had hundreds of free download vouchers lying around the house.

gasp! there is a string quartet tribute to pearl jam! I kind of love tribute albums that are super random like that.

Their Iron Maiden one was best.

  • me03/08/2009 at 13:33

Just been making a little something on Movie Maker (urrrgghh). Just whenever I hear the chorus of the new Muse song it reminds me of all the politics and change that Formula 1 needs and so... I decided to put my ideas into video, hopefully the message comes across well :) Hope you like it! (Mr c, it's very Ari Vatanen just to get your attention ;))

like christine, i have no audio. but shall check it out later :)

I can't decide what to do for the rest of the night. Should I finish off my Bourbon and regret it in the morning, or maybe have one drink while I watch 24 all night. Both are so tempting.

My mother has "Panpipes Play The Beatles"

I'm not such a fan of that one.

I do have a secret love for the Gregorian Masters of Chant CDs though.

  • Sean Golding03/08/2009 at 13:43

Because you don't like the Beatles or you don't like the Panpipes playing them?

  • Amy03/08/2009 at 13:48

I'm still in the supermarket. Where do you think the custard powder is?

in my local Aldi it's above the freezers. In my local proper supermarket I think it's in the baking aisle.

apologies, however you left a comment linking to pf1 "story" earlier, which i believe was largely ignored by us. and then you came back with the same content listed at a different site.

came across to me like you were just trolling for a reaction.

I did want a reaction, I want to talk about F1 with people that are actually into it and understand it.

There's a distinct difference between trolling and discussing.

I did mention it earlier but didn't have the link to add in, I went away and found thinking that would be better.

  • me03/08/2009 at 14:20

fair enough, if you read your comments like this:

it doesn't come across that way to me.

  • RCC03/08/2009 at 14:22

There's nothing more to say about it really, just put a hex on my afternoon now.

Reading back through the comments like that I can see why you may of thought I was trolling

I'm at work so can't sit and read every comment etc and duck in and comment when I can, nobody was commented on what I said so I thought i'd bring it up again to stimulate discussion. Fair enough if nobody's interested but usually people pick up on every comment posted rather then ignore them.

  • me03/08/2009 at 14:24

There's nothing more to say about it really, just put a hex on my afternoon now.

sorry. i don't have anything to add.

i said many months ago that the problem with cost cutting, is rich but rubbish drivers like fisichella can afford to buy themselves a drive for ever more.

i recall also saying that i expected schumi to buy his way back along with any number of overpaid ex-f1 drivers. therefore i'm not in the slightest bit surprised if it happens.

  • Christine03/08/2009 at 14:26

depends how long you've listened to spc. we've discussed him a lot in the past.

  • Lukeh03/08/2009 at 14:35

There was a discussion about him in work, where the consensus was 'he deserves another chance' which kinda amazed me when I realised people were serious. I'll continue to look at it as 'F1 has moved on from him, and so he should move on from F1.'

    Simple!

isnt it because they are becoming extinct? or like uber rare?

  • RCC03/08/2009 at 14:46

depends how long you’ve listened to spc. we’ve discussed him a lot in the past.

I'd say actually the close season 07-08 was when I started, and then since i've gone back through the the old ones, espaically important events in 07 - spygate, Hungary, Brazil 07 etc

I have family that are literally blinded by the man and are total fanboys. It was a case of Schumi and 21 other idiots on the grid with him. That's what put me off F1 during the Schumi years, I came back to it in 2007 when he left (and my weekend job ended - didn't see a race for 3 years!).

The family took it to the point of whenever you'd go round to visit there'd be a huge Ferrari flag in the garden etc and constant digs about other teams. Really awkward to enjoy watching a race when every other driver is jeered etc in their company. I'm a Macca fan (from the early 90's not 07!!) and you can imagine the grief I get whenever I see them.

Schumi in short is a bad memory for me, strangely enough though I was quite pleased the other day...Now we're gonna see hopefully Lewis and Kimi teach him a lesson that retirement means retirement.

  • RCC03/08/2009 at 14:51

It's because they are lame at doing the err 'dirty' so to speak. Breeding themselves into extinction. Well and some silly diet of bamboo not normal bear food (ie small animals etc).

The best panda in the world is the one off south park

'That makes me a saaaaad panda'

Well it could be fun I suppose, not quite sure what the panda brings to golf though........

  • F1Wolf03/08/2009 at 15:02

Well, then the next question is, why is Singapore obsessed with nighttime?

Perhaps because it is really hot there during the day :-)

I went to that night safari 2 years ago and I must say it is very interesting

I think so. Unless you tell them you want your hair in the same colour as a red panda. That could cause mayhem.

I lie! There are two pandas in Adelaide. The zoo says "Wangwang has a separate enclosure to Funi because Pandas don't mix well except on the three days each year when they are up for mating."

No wonder they're rare. Imagine hating someone for 362 days of the year then being madly in love for 3.

I feel quite sad for him really, driving ability aside it's not nice to see some bullied.

It's strange because at times he's annoyed me because he's come across as very arrogant and whatnot, but it's clear that he's just not got the results at Renault. At the same time, we all know what Briatore is like and I do feel for him because it was obvious he and Flav never saw eye to eye. I'm not necessarily sad to see him leave the team but I am sad to hear how he was treated, no driver deserves to have their manager and team boss constantly threaten them.

I know PK isnt the most popular driver around here, but i do feel sorry for him... He does have a tendency to drive like a DJ, but i think he does have some talent, and Renault was never going to be the place where anyone could succeed being treated the way he was.

Question, when you block someone, do you do it by moderating everything? or by ip address?

Akismet lets you mark things as either moderation or spam, and you can enter anything for it to pick up. For example, certain words, an email address, or a name.

In some cases, with more persistent folks, you have to use everything under the sun, including multiple IP addresses.

Mr C can tell you more, I'm sure.

everything we can, every detail we have about a user.

and then we we send iffy comments to the akismet service which i think scans the content of the comment for patterns that match submissions previously marked as spam from thousands of sites across the world.

not sure how that one got through in the first place, but we reported them all as spam too.

incidentally, something in development is the ability for everyone to flag and hide iffy comments.

it'll require a signup somewhere, which is something we've tried to avoid until now. but only if you want to be a comment moderator, rather than just a normal commenter.

it'll require a signup somewhere, which is something we've tried to avoid until now. but only if you want to be a comment moderator, rather than just a normal commenter.

    more on that soon.

    oooooo sounds interesting :)

that is true! I once did a 4 day tramp/hike and then sat in the car for the 4 hour drive home and when we got home I couldn't get out of the car because my legs had seized. I kind of half rolled half fell out. Very embarrasing. My legs looked more toned once they recovered though :D

is it all planned out, i.e how much you're doing each day, or are you playing it by ear?

  • Alison03/08/2009 at 16:22

We have a plan but nothing's booked campsite wise, so we can just see what we feel like. We're driving down and dumping the car in Germany and we've got a flexible return date so we can do pretty much whatever we like. We did the length of the Danube last summer, fancied trying something a bit more hardcore....

I told her a little story about a couple I know. One was doing technical work on a podcast where he didn't car about the subject. And a the other was reading aloud for the Internet. The way I told it they found a common ground and started making podcasts together - and lived happily ever after :)

Evening all, just had a quick womble through the comments. Glad me & Mrs C are back, good news about Massa (although that eye looks really sore), happy about the teams standing up to Ferrari, love Lukeh's helmet design, think someone should tell Nelsinho to say what he thinks ;-). I think that just about covers it except to say that I heart red pandas. Pictures don't do them justice they are so cute in real life.

  • Amy03/08/2009 at 17:24

They dont know what you look like?

my mum: "I haven't seen a photo of you in ages, I want to see what big fat Amy looks like"

she must know about the KFC.

  • James03/08/2009 at 17:24

I've joined the facebook sidepodcast group and become a fan of sidepodcast. I think thats enough for one day ;)

  • Nick03/08/2009 at 17:25

my mum: "I haven't seen a photo of you in ages, I want to see what big fat Amy looks like"

    Thats a bit harsh!

All i get is 'get a haircut you gypsy'

  • Alex Andronov03/08/2009 at 17:26

Right I'm off to eat the lasagne I just made. Have fun guys. See you later :)

and now: the tale of my slippers. To say I like to be warm is not an under estimation.

these were the first slippers, purchased in 2003 and kind of epic but far too large to bring to Australia in my luggage.

this is a picture my flatmate-who-hated-me drew in 2007 (that I wasn't meant to see) it was captioned "Guess Who!"

I think the slippers gave the answer away. I appear to be doing the dance from Thriller. Clearly her skills are no match for Lukeh.

These are the new slippers, expertly cropped so you can't see how badly I need to vacuum.

I believe it was drawn on a Bebo page. Would you believe she has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting? :D

sounds way to familiar. were you and christine separated at birth?

I believe it was drawn on a Bebo page. Would you believe she has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting? :D

Absolutely! A fine amount of time went into creating the detail, I can just tell :D

Is it wrong those pink fluffy slippers look awesome?

    she's not having any.

  • Amy03/08/2009 at 17:40

Is it wrong those pink fluffy slippers look awesome?

they are made from muppet, I swear. The thing that scared me was when I saw people out and about wearing them. As much as I loved them, they were not for wearing in public. Now they are all threadbare and I assumed they went in the trash, but mum said she can't bring herself to throw them away.

  • Nick03/08/2009 at 17:40

Is it wrong those pink fluffy slippers look awesome?

They look amazing! I havent seen boot slippers before...

  • Jon Waldock03/08/2009 at 17:40

Evening all, just had a quick womble through the comments. Glad me & Mrs C are back, good news about Massa (although that eye looks really sore), happy about the teams standing up to Ferrari, love Lukeh's helmet design, think someone should tell Nelsinho to say what he thinks ;-). I think that just about covers it except to say that I heart red pandas. Pictures don't do them justice they are so cute in real life.

you just wrote our entire day in 3 sentances....

  • Scott Woodwiss03/08/2009 at 17:41

    Evening all.

Happy that Piquet is finally gone from Renault :D

Feeling rather worried that there is still the prospect SPC will end if Todt get's the FIA job. :( I'm probably going to feel like that all the way to the result.

  • me03/08/2009 at 17:41

there may be some dropped pictures shortly.

    they are there

am confused. why are you cooking on holiday?

  • Amy03/08/2009 at 17:41

    she's not having any.

I don't believe in these wimpy slip-on slippers. What's the point in slippers where half your foot is exposed to the cold air?

  • Lukeh03/08/2009 at 17:41

I believe it was drawn on a Bebo page. Would you believe she has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting? :D

Actually, are you sure she wasn't a video game designer in the early 90s?

    Amy in slippers

    Stan from Monkey Island

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • lou03/08/2009 at 17:42

what's wrong with those lovely slippers? they look nice and toasty. compared to having a panda at least the slippers wont require you to buy/ grow huge amounts of bamboo ;)

  • Nick03/08/2009 at 17:42

am confused. why are you cooking on holiday?

And how many people is he cooking for!

but you couldn't wear a panda...theres laws against that kinda thing

  • Amy03/08/2009 at 17:44

she will fall over in them.

they have a hard sole so they're just like a shoe. Very easy to walk in. And the fur is so soft that my flatmates keep coming over to rub my feet which is very, very odd.

They come in three colours, but who needs more options when one of them is purple?

  • Jon Waldock03/08/2009 at 17:45

she will fall over in them.

not a fan of heels then either?

  • lou03/08/2009 at 17:45

she will fall over in them.

but aren't they just like fluffy shoes?

Also, I thought I'd take some pics of the two artistic prints I bought at Snetterton yesterday. They're done by an artist called Nik Curry, and he's very good. He was working on a new one of Loeb's Red Bull C4 at the stand he was selling at, and he's actually had the canvas signed by Seb himself at Goodwood. So...

I feel I have eaten much KFC in my time and never become brain damaged and a quadriplegic afterwards, so so far so good?

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 17:52

I have been waiting for you! I need you to convince me that this won't happen to me.

I had no idea salmonella could have such serious implications. Given the thousands of cases I hav ever heard of on TV I would assume that there was some other contributary factor. Also given how many KFCs there are and how long they have been around combined by how prone chicken is to salmonella you have to think that id this was a remotely likely outcome they would be pointing at previous cases.

I suggest you speak to Alison since she is an apprentice doctor.

  • Janna03/08/2009 at 17:52

Yay! F1 minute just downloaded onto my iTunes :-)

Perhaps it will turn you away from heikki. Then you can sue KFC for everything they have.

Silly Red Bull saying no. Drivers not being allowed to drive is sad.

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 18:08

Since we have a lot of people around I will plug this again. Nikki came up with a great idea for a sidepodradio show. We are scattered all over the world and she thought it would be interesting if we all left a short voicemail saying who we are where we are and something interesting, funny or unusual about our part of the world.

If you have spent time in another part of the world feel free to do that instead or as well as. Nikki spent 4 years in Japan so she is doing that as well as her part of Canada.

She is looking for someone to help her co-host and pull the show together.

So please visit the shows wiki page and sign up for your part of the world or if you feel like helping Nikki with the show put a comment to that effect on th pag or send her a personal message. I think this could be a really fun show but only if people support it.

I can see this becoming a section on the wiki after the show so that over the coming years other people can add their bit.

Silly Red Bull saying no. Drivers not being allowed to drive is sad.

Thye won't let him do it in season when he is in with a chance of the championship but I am sure part of the deal with Citroen to let Loeb driv in F1 after his championship is clinched will be for one of the F1 drivers to try his rally car.

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 18:11

    i didn't get that memo.

You will go on hiatus and drik cocktails. I think it is a fantastic idea for a show and I can see it taking a couple of slots if people back it.

There were a few Aussies around when I plugged it before and they were all keen. I am sure the English won't let the Aussies beat them.

  • Pat W03/08/2009 at 18:12

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 18:40

    go on...

I have no idea. I just know I ate a slice of melon and ended up covered in more juice than could possibly fit in that volume

  • me03/08/2009 at 18:40

Is there a reason to put him on the list?

if anything, i'd take him off. prior to this year, i hadn't seen him do anything from the back of the pack and he didn't appear to be able to drive development forward.

as discussed during the last show, he's ticked all the question marks i felt were still unanswered.

  • me03/08/2009 at 18:40

Yeah I noticed there weren't any or at least didn't notice them. He has been away from the track for too long already. Once he returns (as soon as possible please :P), he will be back for sure'ing left right and centre.

    For sure.

I am going to give up on uploading my video because it keeps stalling at 25%, so instead I am going to go to sleep because somehow its 4.23am

    Night all :)

oh no! is this the video with Jenson! :(

    night Amy ;)

Finally I am back. My computer decided it needed a rest and refused to run the doohicket or lclt. Now it has had a little sleep all is well again

  • 2008 SPC-land Fantasy Racers Champions Jordan F103/08/2009 at 19:06

    Hello everyone.

Well, to be frank, I was hoping that the break would last a little bit longer as well, it would have given Christine a little bit more time to get caought up on her film list she can complied at her "Smarter Than Your Average" web site. TBH, I was kind of hoping she would be able to have the time to sit thru the 3 and half hour epic that is Ben Hur, the 1959 best picture oscar winner version.....

Then on second thought, I realized that a) There's a race with is controlled by "politics", The Italian "Black Horse" team cheats to get rid of competitors, and I am sure that "Messala" is Latin for "Person who makes shoes"....

"The more things appear to change, the more they stay the same....", I guess :P .

    Welcome, back, folks!

  • Nick03/08/2009 at 19:12

Joe thinks its possible that if PKsnr Buys Sauber, Jr could move there for the rest of the season.

I hope not, i dont think it would exactly endear him to the team and it would be harsh on the drivers already there...

  • Nick03/08/2009 at 19:13

I received an interesting e-mail from Joe after my comment on his site about an unmentionable driver.

    Wow, thats very cool!

  • Scott Woodwiss03/08/2009 at 19:13

OK, who wants the unedited first recording of a piece for Sim Racers Weekly on drop.io?

  • Jon Waldock03/08/2009 at 19:13

I hope not, i dont think it would exactly endear him to the team and it would be harsh on the drivers already there...

Question is, which driver does he replace?

  • me03/08/2009 at 19:14

OK, who wants the unedited first recording of a piece for Sim Racers Weekly on drop.io?

    steven's in charge.

  • Scott Woodwiss03/08/2009 at 19:14

    steven's in charge.

    OK. Steven?

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 19:16

    What? When? How? Erm.

I can do hassling people and stuff and scheduling but I can't do anything technical.

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 19:18

i thought you were delegated the role of organising sidepodradio?

I thought that only applied during the hiatus. Organising I can do but what can I do with unedited material?

  • Nick03/08/2009 at 19:19

I thought that only applied during the hiatus. Organising I can do but what can I do with unedited material?

Do i get a point for saying "edit it" ? :P

  • Scott Woodwiss03/08/2009 at 19:19

Let me just clear this up - I wasn't asking anyone to edit anything for me. All I asked was if anyone want me to upload my first pre-recorded bit which will be edited later for the full show, so they could have a listen.

  • me03/08/2009 at 19:20

I thought that only applied during the hiatus. Organising I can do but what can I do with unedited material?

you just need to decide if the world should hear the unedited material today, in order to give feedback, or whether it should be saved for the radio show. you were doing fine without us...

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 19:20

Do i get a point for saying "edit it" ? :P

You could get volunteered to do it for a comment like that

  • me03/08/2009 at 19:21

    *wonders aloud*

if someone sent you an email claiming to be of legal profession. suggested that you stop doing something you're not doing (or else). and then turned out not to be in the legal profession at all...

that could be considered intimidation, right?

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 19:22

you just need to decide if the world should hear the unedited material today, in order to give feedback, or whether it should be saved for the radio show. you were doing fine without us...

In that case no. Material should be heard for the first time on the day or it won't work. By all means have one person listen to it and give an opinion and I am happy to do that but making it public now would ruin the effect on the day.

  • Steven Roy03/08/2009 at 19:24

that could be considered intimidation, right?

Intimidation, false representation, impersonating an officer of the court, etc etc

Don't we have anyone on this site with a legal background? Giggles seems pretty clued up.

  • Pat W03/08/2009 at 19:24

We’ve been throwing around the words ‘media’ ‘future’ and ‘change.’ I have come up with a couple of potential titles, but the problem is that all the good urls are taken.

    How about www.newmediadirection.com or www.newmediadirections.com or www.futuremediadirection.com or futuremdeiadirections.com

    All are available.

And it should always be remembered that there are four possible response to intimidation. You can ignore it. You can make a token response, an equivalent response or you can escalate. I like escalation.

  • Alex Andronov03/08/2009 at 20:12

what i'm mainly questioning is, do the emails we've been sent, constitute a form of intimidation?

they sound to me, and I'm not an expert, like false representation.

Private Eye has recently been doing some work on the subject of intimidation. But it's been clouded by the fact that real lawyers are suggesting real threats. This is quite different.

  • me03/08/2009 at 20:13

  • Nick03/08/2009 at 20:15

they have been stung in the area of home education recently with the insane witches running schools thing. That's not a sensible reason but I guess that's why it is.

  • Nick03/08/2009 at 20:23

I had another one just to be sure... yes that one did, 4 others defiantly do, the other is suspect.

  • Alianora La Canta03/08/2009 at 20:26

Have you thought of threatening a counter-suit on the grounds of breaches of the Fair Trading Act? There are two reasons:

    1) The organisation in question may decide it's bitten off more than it can chew and stop being such a pest, possibly without you even needing to employ any (further) legal services;

    2) Even if it doesn't get the hint, the judge would have to take it into consideration that you considered your statements about said organisation to be well-founded.

You could also threaten to sue the lawyer for malpractise, though you'd need to do more research to see exactly which part of New Zealand law sounds best for pointing out the error.

Have you thought of threatening a counter-suit on the grounds of breaches of the Fair Trading Act? There are two reasons:

indeed. PE always selective and madly so. But I can't ignore them. And I loves 'em really.

Well yes, but this particular issue - demonising home educators on the say-so of a badly written report should be exactly their sort of story.

No one else seems interested either, including Liberty and Mark Thomas.

Bakelite as in plastic? They have a museum?

    yes. A museum.

My favourite review of the place that we are stayingc came, I think, from LPG and was, "the Bakelite museum is underwhelming".

Loved it. I went with this in my mind and because of this it was better than I feared!

    no offence but it looks to me that this European Commission complain is just a PR for a company nobody knew until last night {Comment #83}

That's as may be, but it could be all the excuse it needs for the EU itself to prosecute and fine the FIA for breaching the conditions it was set after their 2000 encounter. Let's face it, the EU always wants money to fund stuff...

Lastly... Just a quick point but in the UK elections leaders partners are subjected to the same rules in media as the people who are trying to get elected.

So if they want to show Yeoh, they should have to show Ari's partner... for balance.

That's what the BBC would have to do if they showed Sarah Brown on so much as Blue Peter during the election.

    Um... ...Take 2!

Australia's equivalent of Trading Standards is the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the law you could use to protest GMM's marketing is the Trade Practises Act.

The same two reasons for using it apply as last time.
