Happy Mother's Day!
Hey everyone, I hope you’re all well and are treating your lovely Mums this brilliant Sunday. Off anywhere nice for dinner? Or bought her some nice flowers? Whatever you’re doing I hope you have a great time.
So, on with the daily, there really isn’t much F1 news this fine weekend so how about some news on Hamilton’s brother who has been racing? Well Nicholas Hamilton is racing in the Renault Clio Cup this weekend. As you may expect our 2008 World Champion was also at the Kentish track. I’ve not seen reports on how he did yesterday, but keep your eyes pealed today to see if anything appears.
There is very little racing news other than the BTCC qualifying is anyone going to the race today? If so please make sure you keep the comments up to date. Perhaps if there are a group of people going you could have a sidepodmeetup!
My last F1 related mention of the day is just a reminder that the very awesome BBC documentary Jackie Stewart: The Flying Scot is on BBC 2 at 5:30pm this evening, and BBC iplayer shortly afterwards. If you missed it when it was originally shown you really must watch it, it’s a great documentary done in the style of Graham Hill: Driven tv programme. It’s very informative and a really brilliant watch.
Have you heard the news?! Sidepodcast’s very own Alex Giggles Andronov was in Hello! Magazine yesterday! Yes that’s right, he’s THAT famous! Speaking of Alex, please remember Giggles Radio is on today at 4pm.
… Now it’s time for the arty section of our Sunday, watch out for videos, photos and cartoons this week!..
• Ever wondered how to use reflections in a different but very very awesome way in your photographs? Well here is an idea.
• Here’s some cute kittens… why?... everyone loves kittens… right?..
• And here are some cute cuddly massive animals…
• If you’re just the tiniest bit interesting in photography you really must check out this short documentary on why photojournalism is important and why it is so inspirational.
• I’ve recently discovered Vladimr Rys' website. He’s a very talented F1 photgrapher, make sure you take a look at his work too.
• Lastly, please take some time to look at my flatmate’s documentary short film. It was done for his Semester one work and I really love it. I hope you’ll all take a few moments to watch it, and if you really like it why not tweet him? He’d be more than happy to hear any feedback you all have!
Finally I want to leave you with a very special arty link. Something I found earlier in the week and just loved. I hope you will too.. Chris Labrooy is amazing at illustrations and he’s recently done some Formula 1 related images. Please check them out, they are brilliant.
Have a lovely day everyone, and remember – Giggles radio.. 4pm, don’t miss it.
hey Sunday.

Happy Mother's Day, everyone!
here are some pictures of christine wearing a t-shirt: http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/early-cloud-adoption
pretty sure she never wore a mediatemple tee.
hahahahah!
also, who calls it the Qantas Australian Grand Prix except people gagging for sponsors?
The sort of person who uses "Uniquely Singapore" in a F1 Racing race review without apparent prompting...
ooh, new daily. i got lost in lightroom, had no idea the day had become the next.
I only worked out the change had happened a moment ago because I had too many other tabs open.
Normally official media does when quoting the result or writing a race report. Odd for a podcast to use that title
I’ve recently discovered Vladimr Rys' website. He’s a very talented F1 photgrapher, make sure you take a look at his work too.
oooh, me likey!
i may like rys even more than heath. blimey: http://www.vladimirrys.com/f1_11/pre_season/#0113
I really like those young/old reflection pics. What a fabulous idea
The USF1 coffin appeals too
Anthony is here. Woohoo
international lurker meetups ftw!
i best get another guinness then.
:)
I'm on Corona. 1st bar without the black stuff
*shocker*
so i have guinness, a packet of crisps and am playing random jukebox music to make it a proper pub atmosphere. cheers everyone :)

he also did the fab luminous-yellow brawn iron/toaster a couple of years back.
Thanks man.
Stories to tell when we get home with special treats
Morning all. I don't know what time it is. Silly clock change.
I never know what time it is
I think it's 12.13 as that's what the iPad and my computer say. My watch says 1.13 and my phone is what confused me, it thinks it's 4.32
3:15
Evening all. (11:29 PM, Saturday, EDT) Just doing a time check so I will ready for Giggles radio.

Lovely work by Vladimir Rys. My personal favorite F1 photographer is Rainer Schelegelmilch. Not sure if you guys have checked out his work, but some of it is here:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Schlegelmilch-Photography
He has a website too (requires free membership, but gains access to thousands of photos from 1962 to today):
http://schegelmilch.smcc.de/archive/index.php
Good Morning.
Happy sundae :)
I just remembered there is moto gp today whoooo :)
PS. Moving house is unhealthy my legs ache, my arms ache and even my ribs ache... eugh
One of my friends has an unusual complain - the British Touring Car Championship, MotoGP and Le Mans Series all clash!
Thats a shame/messup for the BTCC, i epect they share some of their audience with motogp.
Ive never been attracted to the Le Mans series.I dont think the name of it really sells it to me. It sounds like all the boring bits of Le Mans, without the excitement of it actually being Le Mans
I like how Force India's Twitter question of what we're all doing today with no F1 on the TV has been answered by at least 3 people who are marshalling in different bits of the world (Istanbul, Mallory Park and Silverstone)...
By the sound of it, the start doesn't clash but the finish does. Definitely not good for TV audiences though.
Interesting, i thought they mothballed istanbull park between gps
I've found the GTE stuff in particular very exciting, but I am biased...
Mostly they do. Today there's a tyre test there.
Thanks for the great plugging work Lou :) x x x
my brother just posted a link to my photo on a car forum he goes on <3
This sounded slightly dodgier than you intended untill i remembered the context...
:)
:)
hahaha.
he's got me two likes already. Go team Fulton!
ooh up to 6 more!
It's a Kiwi forum, Kiwis are so nice :)
Awesome!
It looks like 'Rain' will be performing at sepang (the Irony) http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2011/3/30/sports/8374816&sec=sports
Will you be checking out the coolest cat to come out of south korea? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_(entertainer)
mmm... must go get some from the supermarket tonight
The fruits that is, not the people or the birds
How cool is this guy... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bi_(Rain).jpg
no, unfortunately we have to get to the airport quick smart after the race as our flight leaves at 10.30. What a shame. ahem.
Thats a shame, maybe you can listen to some of his hit songs on the flight :)
Hehehe. :D MotoGP takes top priority for me. Will watch BTCC in between that and Giggles Radio. :) I may watch LMS, but probably only if BTCC is a yawn.
it's crazy - everyone else has barely moved, but you're still going up! now at 222.
my lady officemates are gaga over him. then again, they're crazy over a lot of koreans...
I hope he has an F1 version of this hat with every team on it.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bi_(Rain).jpg
I'll be listening to LMS except during lunch and the MotoGP (which are likely to coincide).
i wouldn't be surprised if he did. :D
125cc: British rookies Danny Kent and Taylor MacKenzie both take career-best finishes to date: 4th and 5th respectively.
Im guessing by the fact its so quiet this morning that it must be sunny in the UK? :)
Gloriously so. I'm indoors though, admiring the view while live-commenting the start of the LMS.
And it sounds like they've made a mess of the start too?
It is quite nice here... But personally I am just busy busy busy!
"A mess" is an understatement. 4 cars seriously damaged and still nervously awaiting what happened to the other GTE cars...
I will (probably) never complain about F1 Safety Cars again after this performance...
*facepalm* I think it's appropriate to say that F1 is the worst form of motorsport, except for all the others. :D
Good thing I'm supporting a Ferrari car rather than a Porsche...
Safety Car out. May I cover my eyes?
Thats what all the celebs say!
Morning guys, hope all are well this morning on this sunny sunday day
I am, thank you. Enjoying the fact that Fisico's car is leading the race at Paul Ricard despite scenes reminiscent of a destruction derby behind it.
No need to turn on the sprinklers?
No - just drop the odd stupidly-placed Safety Car and you'll be shaking out the consequences long afterwards...
Though "Safety Car" belongs in inverted commas, seeing as its unexpected presence caused a large GTE pile-up.
Afternoon peoples.
Good afternoon. I'm very happy at the moment (Fisico's car is still leading its class).
Ah ha, very good.
I am mad at the people who took my daylight savings away. Dark at 6.45, madness!
I'm booking my flights to Dubai and I was really happy about the price until I get to the screen where it says
Roundtrip Liverpool to Dubai: £80
Taxes and Fees: £225 !!!!!
On the plus side... AFL season is back for the next couple of months :P
That sounds dangerously cheap... i am worried
Thank the taxman for saving us from a scouse ivasions
Hello
http://youtu.be/F63z6eGb6rE
Hahaha
That can't be right though... Surely the airline get more than £80?? How do they make any money?
Its 80 more than they would get for an empty seat i guess?
But if the taxes are always that high, I guess I've never paid more than £80/90....
Would anyone pay more than £400 to fly that route?? I doubt it!

mmm wow thats silly
If you are connecting you will be paying airport taxes twice
Wet at Jerez for MotoGP!
BBC2 if you want in.
Rossi is working his way through the field
Started 12th. It is now lap 3 and he's 6th.
when I win my trip to Korea ;) it only includes the Air Asia part of the fare, not the various taxes. So its not completely free :)
4th!
Simoncelli now leads, he was 3rd a minute ago. Rossi's made up the big gap to the leading 3. This is a great race.
Rossi's down! took out Stoner into the gravel as it slide under him.. both resume
Stoner stops, very angry
Going off into the gravel on a bike sounds kinda painful.
It looks it too, when they slide along the tarmac into it. Thick leather overalls I think.
Battle for 9th looks fun, 7 riders all together :)
Not sure what Rossi was thinking.
I guess 10 marshalls helping him and none helping stoner until he had ridden off is part of the territory when you go and race in spain
The leader fell off!! He had a huge lead. Simoncelli was doing really well.. head in his arms.
Well yes, they love him even more than their own riders :)
Hello peoples
Hi Bassano
Good bike race?
Might catch it on the iPlayer in the morning
Thats a problem with Motorsport having amateur marshals
Excellent. Full of drama, worth watching.
although commenting may be acting as spoilers..
after seeing the video of the the LMS start, I see what you were talking about. What a mess.
Ah that's fine
What's the plan for today?
Coming home I suppose, as Kai said?
aw, that part of the trip is never fun
Pretty much, off for breakfast soon. Our flight leaves 22:00. We should land tomorrow morning.
Ah so you have some time today in town, or no?
Yet more! Through into 2nd place... and into the gravel
last lap and it continues, nobody wants a podium?
Chequered flag. Crazy, crazy race. Watch it if you can.
Did he win?
Yeah, leave town for the airpoort about 6pm. Which is 10 hrs away :)
Lorenzo won, Pedrosa 2nd, Hayden 3rd. Rossi was somehow 5th.. a minute behind.
Rossi visits Honda to speak to Stoner. Casey says "your ambition outweighed your talent"
ahhh, it can't be over already? :(
Sidepodsepang starts in 2.5 days, I hope we can fill some of the gap :)
woot! where you having breakfast?
on Wednesday, at the airport. After that, probably the hotel. I get the impression Lotus are staying there #notstalkingiswear :)
I love these seamless events. Melbourne, Boston, Sepang..
It is. Can't complain about the front of the GTE-Pro field but somehow it feels unfair that the Ferraris haven't been challenged properly due to all the Porsches being skittled.
That was one crazy race!
I felt really sorry for Simoncelli when that happened :(
Afternoon everyone :)
Good afternoon :)
Stoner will not be best pleased with that.
British Eurosport 2 is screening it in an hour.
Indeed. At the end of the day, Rossi has points, and Stoner doesn't. So he won't be pleased with that...
good news for US f1 fans:
@ StatesmanF1: Speed TV makes it official: The network will begin showing #F1 qualifying with no time delay. http://bit.ly/hvoztW
At last, Americans won't have to go into a social media vacuum during the session.
We want an iPad 2!
Love apple shop covent garden :)
Also I am quite frankly shocked!!
....they are not playing The Beatles!
That's surprising, because I don't know if you know but they are now selling the Beatles in the iTunes store!
They really should have said something.
One of the LMP2 teams was complaining about a lack of balance in the regulations detrimentally affecting its performance. Only one problem with the theory - it's currently in the lead of the first race in which it's participated this year :D
You would have thought they'd have at least mentioned it!
I now have an iPad of my own... In the shop.
A few observations, I'm not exactly sure how different it is from the ipad1... I don't see why it needs a camera, saw someone using the camera to take a photo in Trafalgar square and they looked ridiculous ... Gloss screens are silly in this shop cause of the reflections from the glass ceiling.. looovvve typing on it though. Oh and as usual images look beautiful on it. Wish it had retina display though...
I want one
YEEEEES! :D I'll be watching the next 2 races there, so it's JUST in time! :D
Wasn't that announced months ago?
We are off to explore some galleries now. Speak to you all later xx
I tried out that facetime thingy and it was terrifying, my face does not need to be that big on screen. unnecessary camera!
I've just taken my old hi-fi to the waste recycling centre. Trusty old thing, bought it in 1996 as my first 'big' electrical spend, £110 was a lot for a 16y.o. then. :) The radio and CD changer have been broken for a couple of years, was a good amp for the TV though. But too big for that job, had to go.
Also I finally have an uncluttered corner of the flat..
woohoo! clutter is evil :)
I suppose a camera on an iPad is to save taking a photo on one device and having to move it over? Probably only useful for family gatherings though
you'd have to really hate your family though, the quality is appalling
I've got so much stuff. During Giggles Radio I plan to sort through some more of it... VHS tapes of F1 races from 2002-2005 (bin them or pass on to other fans), and have a clear out of my old college work from my 1997-1999 computing/programming course.. will probably shred most of it.
oh my word, and you've moved house with that before!
I don't keep anything. It upset my mother as she thought I'd still have Christmas cards from 2007 for some reason.
I was too lazy to do it before moving... twice.
the throwing away of things is my favourite part of moving :)
I think it upset my mum that I didn't keep cards from my 18th or 21st birthdays or any of my school work (hated school, glad to get rid). I kept the cards for my 30th though.
Oh I did plenty but these things were in boxes already so mentally filed as "its just a box, do it later"
Mind you I kept the school work in the loft at either her place or Dad's (forget which). They wanted it moved and I had nowhere for it to go, so it went.
my parents still have a stack of expensive textbooks from my brothers and my uni days but all actual school/uni work is long gone. And I've never missed it :D
Reading the Daily, I've got the DVD of that Jackie Stewart documentary. If you've not seen it, it is worth it.
Me neither. :)
I've got all those expensive books here, the price is partly why I don't want to just throw them out but nobody wanted them when I put them on eBa
eBay

I'll tell you what's funny... the speed of encoding this video between my old computer and my new one... Crazy!
With this running it's the first time I've actually heard the fan on my new computer.
i've found the new ones to be a bit more fan heavy than previous models. not sure why, but they come on faster than the last one.
Has anyone seen this ad?
http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/imgad?id=CJycwqKo2eKagQEQrAIY7wEyCBR2hlR3f1QU
Never thought they'd use THAT to promote a GP, but there ya go. :D
linkin park, or the HRT?
Ping: http://www.f1bigpicture.com/news/push-to-pass
Maybe... But it seems sensible... this machine has just dealt with dual streaming of live shows and recording it in HD to the disk without a problem... And only when it's come to doing encoding (which you basically want as fast as possible) has it turned the fans on)
HRT - they might not even make it to the GP, never mind qualify for it. :P
i heard mine when using lightroom for the first time ever. but then lightroom is now faster to use. i wouldn't mind a "roll back the clock speed in return for silence", option. i don't ask for much :)
There is that option I think...

Afternoon. I went Geocaching for the first time ever today! We used our iPhones to track and find the caches and we managed to find all 4. The others gave up on the last one, but I couldn't leave it behind without finding it so I went back to look for it and finally found it!

I shared the album on my profile too.
Ah cheers.
So did you find things in them?
Hello again. Looking forward to meeting SU when I get home.
Is it a boy named SU?
Yeah - little treasures - some were 'travel bugs' which need to reach a certain destination. Others were little items you could take and if you wanted to, put something back in. They all have a tagging code and it gets logged on a website. One item is a dog tag that needs to get from the USA to Russia!
But it's not about the treasure - the point is that people leave the 'treasure' in an area they want you to visit, like a hill top with a view or a lovely lake. We learnt that Denmark used to have a Ski jump area!
Ahh I see
:)

Evening all.
Just watching the last 3 laps of the Moto GP race I missed earlier.
It will be in a moment or too.
*two.
4 seconds to get a correction posted. Both comments appeared at the same time
I think it is fair to say that was an eventful race. It would take days to list all the incidents. The race was wet/damp at Jerez. As an example of how eventful it was Rossi started 12th after an accident in quali, worked his way up to 3rd. Just as he took 2nd he dropped his bike and took out the guy he was passing. He go back on the bike and re-joined 15th and eventually finished 5th.
Very nice to see that as soon as Valentino Rossi parked his bike he went straight to the Honda garage to apologise to Casey Stoner for taking him out of the race and the first thing Stoner said was to ask if Rossi's injured shoulder has suffered any more damage in the crash.
F1 could learn a lot from those guys
Has spring sprung at home and stuck yet?
Weather here changes so quickly.
It didnt sound like it quite went down like that...
"I think if he wanted to immediately [apologise], he would have got off the bike and done it straight off the bike," said Stoner. "But he went back into the garage, I don't know why, and walked down with the helmet on"
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90428
"When Rossi apologised to Stoner in the Honda pit afterwards, television cameras caught the Australian asking Rossi about the health of his injured shoulder and suggesting his 'ambition outweighed his talent'. Rossi laughed off his rival's comments."
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90429
It seems he was implying that the injury contributed to the crash?
Not so you would notice
Maybe in Scotland *hopeful*
on Friday it was snowing here. On Saturday it was warm and I got sunburnt
It's not the frickin' slopes!
They showed it on TV. I really don't get Stoner's point. Rossi got off his bike and walked into the Honda garage with his helmet still on. He not only apologised to Stoner but to everyone who was there.
Stoner asked about his shoulder then made a comment that Rossi's ambition outweighed his talent. They were joking and Stoner was smiling.
I don't think so. He was saying because it was wet his injury was affecting him less

#sidepodspace
We have a Soyuz launch at 11:18pm UK time tomorrow night
http://spaceflightnow.com/station/exp27/status.html
That a Russian launch?
Yes.
To the ISS or are they doing ore missions these days?
It is taking the next three members of the ISS crew up. Three came home last week and this is the replacements.
I haven't noticed them doing anything else for a while.
NASA TV shows the launch. We have watched 2 or 3 of them live.
Shift change :)
I don't think I have seen those. Comparable to a NASA launch?
Yes. They do about 6 months at a time. Every 3 months 3 come home and a few days later another three launch
Not really. They almost always launch on time. They are not affected by weather to the same degree and they show a lot of onboard footage all the way to zero G. The best known sidepodfact about them is that the commander has a stick in his hand to push buttons.
What a waste of time!!!
You think they should just leave the same people up there permanently?
Not permanently. Surely they could manage at least a year though....
And Alison thinks the taxes to Dubai are absurd!
A year, those poor astronauts
[Self censoring now]
They are!!! I had no idea tax constitutes 4/5 of an air fair.... I thought it was about 2/5
Surely volunteers are tripping over each other to get up there. I'm sure you'd find volunteers.
I think they need more medical information before they leave people up that long. They also need to find ways to minimise bone and muscle loss
Tell me about it!
Free isn't anyway near free now! Grrrrr
I went to see a comedian once who did a song by improv. Was asked to do a song about Ryanair.
"Ryanair Ryanair it isn't quite right.
How can the sandwiches cost more than the flight?"
And better. Ok, maybe not but it's debatable
There may be lots of volunteers but most of them want to be able to function on there return like they did before
If a year is going to do that much damage to you then why is 6 months okay? Doesn't it cause weird bone cancers and things?
Oooh I've had that really satisfying thing where you work out what a song is that you keep hearing is!! Woooo. That's about a year of irritation over :P
Don't know about cancers but it causes a lot of wastage due to the lack of load on the body. The longer they are up there the more wastage there is.
