It's Halloween!! Well, it will be at this time tonight. Are you going to any parties? Dressing up? Or simply eating a lot of sweets? I know what sounds good to me. I carved a pumpkin once and it was gross. Anyway, here are some F1 things to discuss:
- Williams confirmed they would be running Cosworth engines yesterday, which is something we had suspected for a long time. On the one hand, we were surprised as Mr Williams has said previously that Cosworth aren't his favourites, but on the other hand, he seems to know what he's doing. So, we'll wait and see.
- Did anyone else see the free practice sessions that I saw yesterday? The track in Abu Dhabi is interesting and looks good under lights, but there wasn't much to talk about on track, and none of the drivers seemed that perplexed despite being faced with a brand new circuit. I'm hoping today will offer a little bit more.
- Autosport reports that Bruno Senna has as good as signed a deal with Campos META (don't forget the META) which means he has a seat for next year. He was so often rumoured with Honda that their demise can't have done his chances any good. However, this new development means some more fresh blood into the season in 2010.

I'm going to have to rethink my furniture arrangement. I've spent most of the evening in front of the computer, craning my neck around 160degrees at the TV watching free practice - not comfortable.

They get their accreditation through traditional routes (James via the FT); the process for new media is still in its early stages, although the proprietor of Manipe F1 was at Valencia and Monza. I talked to the FIA rep while I was at the Italian GP and the upshot was that while my work meets the quality criteria, it needs to appear in more outlets that meet the quality/circulation criteria.

Is not Rich but has a suggestion anyway: Have you tried the medibuntu repository. Add it and then you should have skype in your software control centre thing and you can install it from there. Skype is temperamental on linux though.

And for example, Fangio most famous Nurbergring win was only possible to refuelling because it was only the botched pit stop that got him into being in that mess of being half a lap down at the old Nurbergring. How he won from 4 minutes back is one of F1's legenadary drives.
But please tell me, with all engines more or less having the same output, how are you expected to catch up to someone on the track? Not from any differences of weight. racing should not be sorely about how well the tyres wears that seems to be me to prevent overtaking as you are too concerned to save your tyres instead to try a last of the heard brakers moves which seems to be the only way to make a pass on the track under the new rules.
Or better still. Imagine two teammates leading the race and they take themseves out by running out of fuel? from 18 certain points to 0. or does that actually become a tactic? Force the guy in front to run out of fuel? What an awesome way to make a pass.

a car's handling changes as the weight goes down. some cars will handle this better than others.
i don't expect cars to run out of fuel in this age of supercomputers calculating how much fuel is needed. i remember only 1 example of a car running out of fuel - massa at spain this year, and that was due to a miscalculation.

I am happy that refuelling is banned - I think it wil test drivers a little more and it should suit my two drivers (Nick and Timo) rather well assuming they good competitive seats which is a rather big IF. I still think Macca should go for Heidfeld if they decide to get rid of Kovy.

blocking makes no odds unless you protect your tweets, and if you're coing to do that, i'm not sure i see the point of tweeting?

A blocked person can only see your feed when they are logged out, no? But if they would be able to see your tweets through someone's list the whole blocking feature as it is now doesn't make much sense anymore. They need a new one that allows you to block other people tweets even though you follow a list they are on.

Have you tried the oss version like Rich suggested (if you do this you might have problems if have another audio sources while calling. Like for example spc live stream. Or I did this, which removes pulseaudio.
But before you do that try in you sound preferences (right click the little loudspeaker) if you can change the input source and if that helps.

Internal mics are a known "issue" with Ubuntu - that is why if I advise a person wanting to get a notebook and to use Linux then Asus EEE PC with Easy Peasy is really the answer - its quite brilliant as everything works out of the box so to speak. Sadly this does not help you currently.

the new Ubuntu release solved some of my audio issues, so when the new mint come out next month(?) your problems might disappear as well.
Can you upgrade if you boot off a flash disk or do you have to start afresh?
Ubuntu remix is very good - its just unfortunate that I have to use KDE due to policy (which admittedly I made) but that is linked to getting funding and to exploit a complex chain of opportunity within the field of web mapping. KDE is quite likely the future for desktops which is why Windows 7 copied so much of it and well I sort of have to go that way. I hate our web access I need a Gentoo Live DVD to then use a script that prepares a netbook remix - and well it just not coming down fast enough - even by Monday morning it would have be downloaded. Wish I could emigrate to Finland!
Erm, if you have enough space on your computer where mint can store the files for a while you should be able to upgrade. But I would suggest to start fresh and copy&paste your .skype folder and similar things.

unsolvableproblems. The time went a bit crazy when I tried moblin and windows.One of my tasks is to actually get staff and students to use free software - this to align with government policy. Purchasing software when your exchange rate is as bad as that in SA simply is an expensive exercise. I love Apple products and OSX but you cannot justify the expense of double to treble what can be built with hardware not pre-installed with Windows and Linux. The standard LinuxMint is very good (arguably better than standard Ubuntu) but I would avoid the KDE version. If you need better performance you could move to the XFCE Mint.

Too date for me the best Linux is Pardus KDE but there is no live CD, then it is LinuxMint, Ubuntu Netbook Remix/Easy Peasy and CrunchBang/Chruncheee depending on your own style from lots of eyecandy to minimalist.

good things about the track: i think organisers have done everything they possibly can do. it's good to see some elevation changes, not much but more than i expected.
bad things about the track: really confused by the two pit exits and the dual start markers, allowing the general public to hang over balconies above the track is lunacy.

Standing on ice skates is a lot easier than you would think and so is walking in them. Slidey skating is a bit more difficult but even I managed that. Roller skates were different. I was like Bambi on ice with those.

No probs - I use Windows Live Writer, which seems incompatible with the PicApp code. I end up adding the pics at the end when uploaded to Wordpress...
There is a page in Live Writer for like the source code where you can add them
If I do that it shows up at code in the writing part and doesn't work in the preview either...

It's an app that allows you to right click on web elements and view the source code and it's location in your .php template files.
You can amend on the screen to how you like, then know what bit of the source code to edit.
So in other words, it's a great way to mix and match code off your favourite sites...

They've already decided which engine they are going to be using next season, just not revealed it to the media yet. Haven't a clue which it is (probably between Cosworth and Renault) and the likelihood of me being able to prise it out of my contact within the team is probably zero due to the non-disclosure agreements and such like they all sign.

I think Red Bull will be better off with the Renault... I'm a bit annoyed at Frank for choosing the Cosworth. I like Cosworth as a company but they aren't going to be anywhere next year and Williams are going to fall down the order fast. At least they will be a good yardstick for the new teams (who won't get near 'em).

I don't even want to think about it. When I spoke to the airline, it seemed to me that the cancellation fee was less than the fee for changing arrangements which is thoroughly insane. I don't want to deal with it at the moment.

At least you have options. Don't leave it too late before you change things. You should still look forward to the rest of your trip. I am sure once you get started you will have a great time.
I just don;t know if I can enjoy my trip with my relationship like this.
There are only two people who can sort that but make sure you don't give up that trip now and never get the chance to take it. That you would regret for a very long time. You may think because you can afford to do it now you always will but that is often not the case.
Argh. I can't really explain. I don't know. I think I'm already grieving.
Is there anyone you could talk things over with that would help? You may not feel like going on your trip now but do you feel like working through an English winter instead?
Hmmm it's not just about feeling better though. If I'm just going to mope over the love of my life it doesn't really matter where I am. I've had financial problems my whole life. This is the first time I've had enough money to go anywhere. I don't want to waste it if I won't enjoy myself.
I can understand that but it is a long trip. Only you can decide what is best for you in the end
