We are at the very last day of August now, and for those of us in the UK that means a Bank Holiday. We are still recovering from what was an excellent Belgian GP, though, so I don't imagine we will be up to anything exciting. Here's what we're talking about though:

  • Jake Humphrey of the BBC has written up his experiences over the weekend, and it's fair to say they have had quite a profound effect on him. He even says he enjoys hanging out with DC.
  • Gavin has written up his Fantasy Racers stats, and it's worth taking a look to see how the game reacted to the madness of the race itself. We also covered the Fantasy Racers updates in last night's Debrief.
  • Away from the racing, the interesting news to come out of yesterday was the fact that events at Singapore last year will be investigated. We all pondered whether Piquet's crash hadn't been just a bit too convenient, and now the FIA are going to do the same thing.

That'll do it for now. Let us know what you're up to - whether you have the day off, or have to work. There'll be an edited Debrief and a Digest up later today to keep you entertained. Until then, I'll see you in the comments.

Sometimes I think all this space stuff is too technical. When the shuttle and the ISS were about 400 feet apart some station flight controller alertedeveryone to the fact that the ISS was 1 degree out of its planned alignment. The shuttle is piloted by trained astronauts. They should be abe to cope with a 1 degree change of course.

a brawn and a grosjean. there's more than one?

Ignore the commentary. Jenson is on the outside of Heikki and then very late backs off slightly to slot in behind him and take the apex. You can see clearly from the external camera that Jenson chops straight across Grosjean.

Also if you pause lewis's onboard you can see that before Tim hits him his right front wheel is hanging off.

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 01:18

    I'm loving the Digest :D

If you look from Lewis's onboard and pause it a couple of seconds before Tim hits him then advance and apuse it half a second at a time. You can see at one point Jaime's front right is at a very odd angle. You can't see it at speed

Weil, unless it has something to do with Ringo Starr's detachment, I think "homogenous" is when everything is the same, which should be the case if say, an engine is built by a manufactor for many different F1 teams ?

At normal speed there was no obvious contact with Lewis car but it may have been light contact although normally you see the bump.

    Evening all

Ignore the commentary. Jenson is on the outside of Heikki and then very late backs off slightly to slot in behind him and take the apex. You can see clearly from the external camera that Jenson chops straight across Grosjean.

very interesting... I didn't pick that up in the race and I haven't had a chance to catch a replay yet.

Did jenson blame rg in his interview or say it was just an incident? He has been really aggressive 1st lap all season...

    button responded to grosjean with:

"I can't believe he's blaming me. He hit me, but to be fair I don't really care. It's not really important. I didn't score any points, and that's what's important."

i think button was hit first by the reanult.

You can see from the outside camera that the two of them collided and that triggered everything else that happened.

Translated by a Portuguese on another F1 forum,

A bomb in F1 starts to blow.. just wait, because this is just the beginning

  • Steven Roy31/08/2009 at 02:09

It does look unusual. Most people who crash on street circuits understeer off. It is unusaul to see someone power oversteer into the wall. But then again it was Piquet

we've seen nothing like this before, quite honestly. if this is true, this might be even more damaging to Renault than Spygate was to McLaren.

Flav's face just before it does look suspicious.... Like he's looking around waiting for something to happen, wondering why it hasn't perhaps?

That was my thought but that is only because we are looking for clues. A lot of people on the pit wall look around themselves like that.

  • Journeyer31/08/2009 at 02:13

Looks like the Brazilian mafia have discussed it already

If this is true, way to ruin the end to this season. I do agree that this needs to be investigated, but this is something we didn't want to happen now.

That said, I was near this accident (although not in my line of sight). It will certainly influence how I viewed that magical race weekend.

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 02:14

That was my thought but that is only because we are looking for clues. A lot of people on the pit wall look around themselves like that.

Yeah I know. I love how NO-ONE's come out and said it's totally ridiculous. If it was shown to be true, you wouldn't be shocked either Flav or Fernando were involved in it.....

  • Jeremy (GMT +10)31/08/2009 at 02:15

Carlos Ghosn will just dump the team and claim the moral highground.

Since we have had a conspiracy theory loaded day how about this. Piquet drove for Bernie and they were quite close. There have been rumours of Flav replacing Bernie. If Piquet pulls off this stunt CVC will not touch Flav with a barge pole.

  • Amy31/08/2009 at 02:16

I certainly wouldn;t be shocked at Flav doing it nut I can't see someone like Pat Symonds having anything to do with it and it would be hard to do it without alerting him

  • Nick31/08/2009 at 02:17

Flav isn't the most strategic mind in the pitwall. Someone else would've had to figure out that a Piquet crash would help Alonso to win. Who's the accomplice?

Too bad the camera is so far away and they did not zoom into PK. I would have liked to see him come out of the turn and on to the straight. I would still like to think it was some sort of puncture to the inside tyre that got him to spin out. How useless a driver do you have to be if you are only good to be crashing into wallls?

But to tell the driver to spear a concrete wall? I mean, an accident is one thing but maybe the car is a little bit too bulletproof for a Team owner to come up with this stuff to win races. I mean what if PK got seriously injured or worse (Meet Mr. C in a dark alley, for example?)

i'd spin under braking at the end of a short straight so I could be clearly seen but be in the middle of the track. i guess telemetry would give the game away though

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 02:38

alia's point 4 on bf1 is also worth considering:

"why didn’t that driver anonymously send the FIA word of the problem? Not only would the source not be revealed under the terms of a 2003 rule designed to encourage the reporting of technical infringements, but the driver would be £1m richer…"

If you are crashing deliberately, you need to create enough carnage to 100% garantee a saftey car, and also avoid any suggestion of leaving your car in a dangerous place unnecessarily. I can't see a gentle slow speed crash being a realistic option...

If you had to deliberately had to crash a car how would you do it.

Well, keep winning and I do not have to dream up those ideas, Steven....

But tapping the wall sideways like they do at the Indy 500 or at Champion's Wall at Montreal is a reasonablly safe way of creaming a car at speed....The wall acts as a brake and you go sliding down the wall.

According to http://www.formula1.com/teams_and_drivers/hall_of_fame/181/ Piquet had several children with a number of women and according to http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1465456/bio he had 7

It doesn't need to be very slow. You just have to lock a brake and go nose first into a wall

Makes a lot more sense than the actual accident. It was something you would never do deliberately but it is also something that doesn't look like a normal accident.

Ouch. Sounds painful. Massive sudden stop as you it a wall.

Nah. you slip on the marbles at turn 13 in Montreal and you point the car straight as teh whole right side gets ripped apart from Champions Wall and the Outside Pit Straigfht wall in Montreal. It is only 4.7 G around there and you have the length of the pit straight to slow down and leave car bits all over the place... Do it right and your teammate wins a red-flag shortened race.

Err, how did Champions Wall's get its name again Steven? Did not Schumacher, Villeneuve, Hill, and Hakkinen (plus) Zonta all creme the same part of the track that one Canadian Grand Prix? Like I said,

    a) PK is so useless he can not even crash properly.

    b) Massive suddens stops due to nose pointed at Wall is painful. Better to have the nose parallel to teh wall and slide down the side of the wall until you come to a stop. It will destroy the wheels, tyres, sidepod and suspension on teh side closer toteh wall and would for sure being out a yellow flag. And ther is less risk of injury to the driver in the crash.

    Hello Sidepodcast-land

I have been a fan for well over a year of your excellent podcast and you are now my outlet for my thoughts about this weeks race. I will start with my bias that I am in fact a BMW fan (for a few more months). My comment is about Kimi's off track excursion today at the start of the race. I do believe that Kimi had the fastest car today and that no matter what happened that he would have won the race. However, I feel that when he went off track he was behind at least 1 car that he was in front of when he came back on track. To me he received an advantage of no traffic off course and gained an advantage, similar to cutting a chicane. I think at a minimum he should have been instructed to give back the positions immediately. I believe that there was so much action and so many cars involved that they likely couldn't have told who should have been behind who. In the absence of a clear vision of who he cam in front of, that he should have been given a drive through penalty. I will admit that I watched the race on my DVR and have not read any of the comments about this topic, if there are any. If this incident has already received great debate and I am wrong I am sure that I will learn why tomorrow. But for now it seems that he benefited by going off-line. That simple.

I hope that you all enjoyed the race.

I hope that you all enjoyed the race.

    Hey Mike, good thoughts.

I actually believe Kimi did not have the fastest car - that was Fisi, and but for the safety car restart, I think the first two places would have been reversed.

There was a lot of chat about Kimi's first corner during and after the race. Personally, I agree with you. Kimi's drive off the outside of La Source looked deliberate to me, and it seemed he got a very good run down to Au Rouge because of it. I don't know how the stewards can penalise some incidents, and just ignore things like this.

Hey Mike, welcome to Sidepodcast. I agree Kimi gained an advantage solely because by running wide he had a free run down to Eau Rouge on KERS (which is the same reason why nobody could overtake him) and should have got a penalty.

How was the coverage on Speed? Do you enjoy it or do you think it could be improved?

Gavin has written up his Fantasy Racers stats, and it’s worth taking a look to see how the game reacted to the madness of the race itself. We also covered the Fantasy Racers updates in last night’s Debrief.

Nico doesn't race. He just tours around showing off his lovely golden hair...

But seriously, how is this guy the real deal? So he finishes fourth, fifth or sixth every race. Big deal - after Force India's display this weekend he doesn't look so good to me now. Let him join McLaren and watch the sparks fly next year!

you'd be surprised how many people I meet who don't want to go home when their visa runs out!

  • Amy31/08/2009 at 08:27

The only European countries that require New Zealand passport holders to have a visa for a stay of less than three months are Belarus, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine.

Good thing none of those are on my "must do" list.

I mentioned my trip to my flatmate and she said 'will you have enough time to go to Finland?'

    I'm so predictable :D :D

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 08:29

I'd need a visa to go to those places as well.... I looked into going through Belarus on my trip round Eastern Europe and decided it was more hassle than it was worth. I'm curious to go see a communist state while it's still in operation though.

  • Amy31/08/2009 at 08:31

a lot of my friends have been to China but I have no intention of dealing with the hassle so I don't expect to ever go there.

What if Bernie holds a grand prix there?

I mentioned my trip to my flatmate and she said 'will you have enough time to go to Finland?'

    I'm so predictable :D :D

I spoke to a Finnish guy who went to the Turkish Grand Prix this year ... he said there was no atmosphere and it was too expensive but he enjoyed it and loved the noise.

He hasn't watched F1 much since Hakkinen retired. When I asked about Kimi, he said "Oh, he's weird and dull - even when he speaks in Finnish!"

I didn't dare ask him about Kovalainen. #sorryamy

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 08:35

I don't have any real interest in going to China. It's all a bit too oppressive for my liking.

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 08:39

Ooooh I solved my Australian visa issue. I just have to register my passport number and they'll attach a visa to that. It's free! That's always a bonus.

Glock woulda won if it wasn't for that pitlane messup.

And err, Kubica woulda won if Ferrari, Force India and Red Bull were slower.

  • Jon Waldock31/08/2009 at 09:12

Question to all, are the champagne bottles de-corked before they are given to teh drivers? or do the drivers have to take the cork out before they spray it?

  • Amy31/08/2009 at 09:13

But seriously, how is this guy the real deal? So he finishes fourth, fifth or sixth every race. Big deal - after Force India's display this weekend he doesn't look so good to me now. Let him join McLaren and watch the sparks fly next year!

I think he's doing pretty well in that car. Rosberg would HATE being at McLaren.

    a) I get the idea he wouldn't take the no.2 role in any team.

    b) he'd have to cut his hair

Yeah he's doing well, but nothing special. If Fisi and FIF1 can do it then Rosberg should too.

    (b) He'd be a number 2 before that happened!

first it was "Let's get the good spirit out there & have a #McLarenMonday."

then people weren't getting the point so they tried to bribe them "1. Follow us 2. Tweet a message with the #McLarenMonday hashtag. We'll give away a very special gift & vouchers. Pls RT."

Then they try to make it like a FUN GAME when its clearly MARKETING "We have made it into the trending topics here on #Twitter! Gr8, well done - keep them coming! :) #McLarenMonday"

i don't know who's in charge of the twitter account, but it sounds like a marketing company rather than mclaren.

and she replied "there are a lot of spam tweets but at least it is getting the McLaren name trending though :s #McLarenMonday"

so I said "I must be cynical but I don't see how a trend on Twitter does anything at all to further the brand"

Someone please explain why anyone bothers because I can't stand hashtag promo.

Well, summer's officially over in this part of the world - it's getting hard to play cricket without a jumper. What would be ideal would be to spend summer in Europe, and then go to Oz or NZ afterwards.

  • Alboreto31/08/2009 at 12:59

JPJ's win at Dijon may be forgotten by nearly everyone, due to the Arnoux-Villeneuve battle, but it was a mark of his consistency (and Arnoux's raggedness) that he was in front anyway. I guess I'd probably have to say that Arnoux was the more talented driver, but he never seemed to get luck with cars in top teams.

I've finally got round to looking at my Fantasy Racers results. They were pretty desultory, but the worrying thing is that two of the worst-performing teams relied almost entirely on one driver to generate their scores.

LCM Barato was the best team, and in fact at 611 points was very good. Picking Fisichella and both BMWs was a good move and the (three) other drivers didn't get taken out. Heidfeld is, however, worth too much money to be retained by the automatic selection system, so is being replaced by Grosjean.

LCM Barato is also the 21st-fastest-rising team in Fantasy Racers, making 378 places in the overall league.

LCM Aléman put in its usual respectable performance, this time netting 532 points. The best performances were from Vettel and Heidfeld. What helped was that, like with LCM Barato, everyone finished.

The same cannot be said for LCM Dragons. Despite this being my fully-selected team, I made only one good choice for it. Four of the drivers selected scored 72 points between them. Luckily for the team, the other one on the team was Fisichella...

LCM Fire Lizard fared even worse. When the second-highest scoring driver on the team scores 54 points, you know there's a problem. The only reason the squad even broke the 100-point mark, let alone made 230, was Fisichella.

LCM Caro was abysmal even by its own standards. Of its two drivers, one crashed and the Vettel's podium wasn't enough to salvage more than 228 points. However, I have declined to change the line-up at the present time.

One last note - I am slightly baffled as to why 46 teams still contain Michael Schumacher.

Yeah, there are some roads that are arrow-straight and Christchurch is on a grid-road system. ==> It has the advantage that it is very easy to figure out which direction you are headed in.

Actually, I think the idea of a country being in two continents is actually a Turkish idea. (Most of Turkey is in Asia, but the Turkish Grand Prix is actually in Europe.) The Russians just copied the Turks.

    I knew Barato would win! {Comment #468}

    How?

Because you chose all the cheap drivers and I knew you had Fisi in there! Remember all the usual drivers did badly, so the cheaper ones must have done well!

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 15:00

NZ doesn't do blistering ;) Mid-high 20s is a normal summers day, although it gets into the 30s regularly in central otago.

Hmmm 30s is too hot for me though! I've been hospitalised due to heat stroke in France one year and Holland another :P

    I really don't do hot!

Spa's Paddock Life is out, and settles the question of where the FIFI motorhome came from:

Instead, and amid many rumours that the team did not bring their unit for fears of it being impounded over the dispute that occurred at the German GP, the team raised plenty of eyebrows when they used the motorhome that is normally used by Rizla Suzuki in MotoGP

    http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/78229

It also talks about the effort the other teams went to to get their stuff from Valencia to the Ardennes in just a couple of days.

Now that NASA have managed to launch the shuttle and dock it with the ISS I thought it would be worth pointing aout a few of the viewing highlights of the mission. For vastly more detail there is a 100+ page press kit for the mission that can be downloaded from http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/379392main_STS-128_Press_Kit.pdf

Today is Flight Day 4 in NASA-speak and the main activity of the day is to pick up the Leonardo MLM(Multi-Purpose Logistics Module) from the shuttle's payload bay using the robotic arm and mount it on the Harmony node of the ISS. MLMs are cylindrical shipping containers full of all sorts of goodies. Once it is connected the hatches will be opened and all those highly trained astronauts have to hand carry the contents into the station and fill the MLM with rubbish and used equipment to be returned to Earth.

The last activity of the day is for tomorrow's spacewalkers to camp out in the air lock so that they can breathe the necessary mixture of gasses overnight.

Tomorrow Flight Day 5 is spacewalk day

Spacewalk 1 by Olivas and Stott (Preparation of P1 Truss Ammonia Tank Assembly for removal, EuTEF and MISSE experiment removal from the Columbus module)

    • Rack transfers from Leonardo to the station; transfer of the COLBERT treadmill from Leonardo to the space station

    Wednesday Flight Day 6

    • Focused inspection of Discovery’s thermal heat shield by the shuttle robotic arm/OBSS, if necessary

    • Rack and cargo transfers from Leonardo to the station

    • Spacewalk 2 Campout in Quest airlock by Olivas and Fuglesang

    Thursday Flight Day 7

    • Spacewalk 2 by Olivas and Fuglesang (Completion of Ammonia Tank Assembly swapout on P1 truss)

    Friday Flight Day 8

    • Crew off-duty time

    • Cargo transfer from Leonardo to the station

    • Spacewalk 3 Campout in Quest airlock by Olivas and Fuglesang

    Saturday Flight Day 9

    • Spacewalk 3 by Olivas and Fuglesang (Routing avionics cables for Tranquility Node 3 installation, replacement of Rate Gyro Assembly on the S0 truss, installation of two GPS antennas on the S0 truss)

    • Cargo transfer from Leonardo to the station

    Sunday Flight Day 10

    • Cargo transfer from Leonardo to the station

    • Crew off-duty time

    Monday Flight Day 11

    • Final transfers

    • Leonardo egress and systems deactivation

    • Leonardo demating from Earth-facing port on Harmony node and berthing back in Discovery’s cargo bay

    • Farewells and Hatch Closure

    Tuesday Flight Day 12

    • Discovery undocking from station

    • Flyaround of station and final separation

    • Late inspection of Discovery’s thermal protection system with the OBSS

    Wednesday Flight Day 13

    • Flight Control System Checkout

    • Reaction Control System hot-fire test

    • Crew Deorbit Briefing

    • Cabin Stowage

    • Recumbent Seat Setup for Kopra

    Thursday Flight Day 14

    • Deorbit preparations

    • Payload Bay Door closing

    • Deorbit burn

    • KSC Landing

Because you are under-estimating your expenses would be my guess. Most people know to the penny what they earn but not what they spend.

Is that 'house-buy' moving, or rental moving? I know what it's like to move between rented accomodation - a real pain - and can't imagine how much more stressful it would be if you're buying/selling too.

I tried that in my teens but it never worked. I always ended up spending more than the diary said and I was not consciously cheating.

The most scary thing to do is to keep a record of every penny you spend for a couple of weeks. I always account for the cash I take out as "Cash" & not what it goes on. I kept a record like this without controlling my spending but just writing it down. I waste so much cash on nothing!

  • Chris D31/08/2009 at 16:31

I assume Mallya knows that Phillips works for the BBC during practise so someone should be briefing him on what he cannot say.

I can't imagine paying a lot of money to get Fisi in the car for five races. It certainly won't be close to enough to pay off all of their debt.

I feel sorry for Phillips. He said he could imagine a move being made within the next 24 hours, but he didn't mean a Fisi move to Ferrari, he meant a move by Ferrari to get hold of Fisi. Having listened to the whole thing on the BBC site it looks like Mallya has responded to what he thought Phillips said, rather than what he actually said. He was actually quite guarded and never said they would let Fisi go. (Sorry if this has been said already - didn't read down past the first couple of pages ;-) )

I thought it was going to be about Ringo

  • Alex Andronov31/08/2009 at 17:07

The conversation continued in the comments with Andy telling us Paul McCartney was killed in 1966 and there is a whole conspiracy theory about this that I have never heard of. Then Mr C chopped Heikki's head of.

I had heard of the first part.... but the second bit is a surprise

  • Steven Roy31/08/2009 at 18:21

We get confused by what you lot are talking about...

    we beg to differ ;)

To an extent we are all confused. I certainly don't know how to solve this problem. We need to find a way for people not to take one look at the conversation and think they can't get involved but at the same time keep the loose flowing nature. Eventually id enough of us keep discussing it we will find a way.

  • Alex Andronov31/08/2009 at 18:24

waitwaitwati, i googled it, but i have no idea what a drobo is, so cant help ;)

Don't worry I was only making a poor joke about the making conversations thread... And how sometimes people's problem is that nobody knows the answer to the problem / question and they are ignoring the person because the person making the origional comment hasn't put the effort in to make their comment stand out be interesting enough and so on.

And now I've made this in the daily not the making conversations thread... whoops ;)

  • Jon Waldock31/08/2009 at 18:25

What is a drobo thingywajit then?

  • Steven Roy31/08/2009 at 18:26

My entire drobo knowledge is at your disposal. Leo says they are fabulous and you should use them rather than any other storage.

That is my entire knowledge. No doubt it has been of great help to you.

  • Alex Andronov31/08/2009 at 18:28

What is a drobo thingywajit then?

It's a super cool external hard disk. It sits on the network so all of your computers can access it, and you can mix and match hard disks when you put them in so you don't need to match them. Buy 1 disk at first and then later add more as you need.

  • Jon Waldock31/08/2009 at 18:35

I'm listening to the debrief....turns out Mr C was trying to kill Glock too because of Badoers spinner...

Christine, watch out, you may be next ;)

    #sidepodspace

They are setting up to remove the Leonardo MLM(giant tin can) from the shuttle's payload bay and to berth it withthe ISS using one or more robotic arms. Leonard MLMs carry 7.5 tons of cargo and full loaded as it is now it weighs almost twice that.

NASA TV are running a live press conference about today's mission management team meeting which seems to have gone well. The only issue seems to be that they have had some ISS thrusters have failed but they have other thrusters that can be used. The only implication for the shuttle is that they may have to alter the shuttle undocking operation at the end of the mission.

with a pellet gun. behind the bushes. I like this one. explains a lot - NP wouldnt have had to bork his race intentionally. Come to think of it, Flav was looking for something wasnt he?

  • Jon Waldock31/08/2009 at 20:52

It certainly could happen, although I think the conversation on that front has died down somewhat.

I think it may need one when we get some actual news about it, but at the moment theres not much apart from speculations and the FIA saying "we're looking in to it"

My Bus company sent me an email saying "we're looking into why your bus never turned up for an hour even though it says 'one every 10 minutes' on it" but i wont write a blog post about it ;)

I was just writing something and managed to close the Doohickey.

Renault's result in Singapore doesn't affect either championship, so I agree that Renault are likely to escape a major penalty. I would imagine that the burden of proof is quite high on the FIA's side - all Renault have to do is deny everything and point out that PK jr left the team in a less than amicable fashion.

  • Andy Taylor31/08/2009 at 21:03

i dont think they'll escape a major penalty if its proven. they purposely put a drivers safety and marshalls aswell second behind winning. they should get a good kicking for that

  • gravit8ed31/08/2009 at 21:04

@ andy yes for the most part youre right but their actions could be seen (if true) to have undermined the entire sporting regulations on a basic level, by putting the saftey of everyone at risk, etc. So much more than simply winning a race - if true.

  • gravit8ed31/08/2009 at 21:05

Well i cant read very well....so i doubt that ;) but if they are proven to have done it, i dont think they'll get off easy!

Have fun, hope you find something you like

  • Andy Taylor31/08/2009 at 21:07

Just to be clear - if found guilty then Renault deserve a bigger fine than the McLaren one, but it's unlikely they will be.

  • Nick31/08/2009 at 21:08

I asume there is evidence. Its a silly accusation to make if you cant do more than say it happened.

Unless its part of something bigger, it could just be the first grenade of many which will be hurled to end flavs f1 career sooner rather than later.

  • Jon Waldock31/08/2009 at 21:08

A fine?? Are we talking about the same event? You're not even allowed team orders, forget deliberate endangerment of many many people. Look at what they tried to do over a loose wheel. Renault would never compete again in F1 (possibly in any other FIA series.....)

i believe that piquet snr knows where the bodies are buried. i believe this will be the first of many accusations. the only question for me is, are they going big, or are they firing warning shots?

  • Pat W31/08/2009 at 21:28

i believe that piquet snr knows where the bodies are buried. i believe this will be the first of many accusations. the only question for me is, are they going big, or are they firing warning shots?

What do you think they are aiming to get out of it? There's no way Renault will put him back in a car after this.

  • me31/08/2009 at 21:30

difficult to say. piquet's been around a very long time.

  • me31/08/2009 at 21:31

What do you think they are aiming to get out of it? There's no way Renault will put him back in a car after this.

not a clue. hence why i'm wondering if this a warning shot. it may not even be true, but you can bet max, bernie and flav have sat up and taken notice.

i'm assuming that piquet snr wants ensure a seat for his boy. bernie's a man who can make that happen.

Lukeh, you are just too funny.

As far as warning shots...well, I'd like to see the big guns then. This will be very interesting, either way, because something is going to come out of this. Its almost a guarantee.

not necessarily. the people involved may say "message received" and make sure jnr's in a ferrari next weekend. etc etc.

  • gravit8ed31/08/2009 at 21:44

And I'm off again. wishin I could find this kind of community around here, it would be such great fun to have an F1 party on racedays, an wake up the 'hood.

BTW I got a little reply from USGPE this morning, it says they've 'received my inquiry' It wasn't an auto-response, either, but it wasnt from peter windsor.

    *bounces in chair a little

not necessarily. the people involved may say "message received" and make sure jnr's in a ferrari next weekend. etc etc.

I dont have any doubts pk will get a drive in the future.

I think the PK's have taken it personally and now want to ruin flav. Bernie may be the only one who can stop them, i doubt he would though...

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 21:44

heheh... Toby Moody on the MotoGP calendar via Twitter (@tobymoody):

"It's alright for the People who make the calendar isn't it. They're already in their own bed via helicopter & 1st class. Misano; hours away."

They were in Indianapolis on Sunday and need to be in the middle of Italy for Thursday..

it can keep secrets when it needs to.

  • Nick31/08/2009 at 21:51

Either way, putting Piquet into a Ferrari because he blackmailed you definitely would.

not really, perhaps he was doing the sport a favour by revealing the truth. There is no way the FIA could say he brught the sport into disrepute if their is reasonable evidence for his claims.

not really, perhaps he was doing the sport a favour by revealing the truth. There is no way the FIA could say he brught the sport into disrepute if their is reasonable evidence for his claims.

max has a thing for driver amnesty too.

  • Nick31/08/2009 at 21:53

you say that. but look at the triple diffuser thing. they were kept pretty well hidden for almost a years worth of development.

That wasnt the sort of rumour that people struggle to avoid talking about though.

Its a bit like knowing the village gossip, people cant help themselves, but they can still keep their cards close to their chest when they are playing poker.

What if he can't prove it?

  • Jon Waldock31/08/2009 at 21:54

What if he can't prove it?

Then its his word vs theirs and who the FIA believes

  • Nick31/08/2009 at 21:54

I forgot max doesnt like flav and doesnt need Bernie anymore.

Oooh , this could be fun!

  • Nick31/08/2009 at 21:54

What if he can't prove it?

He doesnt have to prove it, just do enough to show it was plausable

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 21:55

Well we're all talking about it like it could have happened. I'd say he's managed.

  • Alison31/08/2009 at 21:56

    Gavin are you still around?

  • Steven Roy31/08/2009 at 21:57

Am watching GP2 from Barcelona on You Tube, with no commentary, just the car sounds. It's bliss

  • Nick31/08/2009 at 22:00

Possibly, but he could still face a disripute charge if renault can prove absoloutly it didnt happen. which is quite unlikely

    But Dijon ‘79 was immortalized by the wheel-banging dual for 2nd place between Villeneuve and Arnoux. Whoever was in 1st was miles ahead and so just waltzed away to a win. {Comment #505}

You make a good point in that the reasons why people may struggle to remember who won a year hence will occur are different between Dijon 1979 and Spa 2009.

  • Alianora La Canta01/09/2009 at 11:06

    who is this Jean-Pierre Jabouille guy of which you speak? {Comment #505}

A French driver instrumental in helping to develop Renault's revolutionary turbo engine concept. Ironically he only got five other points in his entire career...
