No one could have predicted the qualifying order from yesterday, and I wouldn't ask you to have a guess at what's going to happen in the race today. It was great fun though, and am expecting more of the same. Here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Fisichella and his pole position makes us even more sure that qualifying is better than the race itself, so much so that we decided to hold a poll about it. We prefer Saturday to Sunday but what do you think?
- Continuing on the same theme, it's worth noting that our results posts for qualifying now have added graph goodness. It's really just there to help me make notes for the Digest, but it adds a bit of colour to the post as well. As Maverick points out in the comments, he has better graphs over on Pitlane Fanatic.
- Don't forget, if you've got an hour to spare before the race this morning, head back here to tune in to the Parade Lap. Host Alex will guide us through fun and games, as he lives out his radio DJ dreams. He's written about that here, so please tune in to support him.
That'll do it for now, it's going to be a busy day today, but stay tuned to Sidepodcast throughout as we try and figure out what on earth is going on in Belgium. I will see you in the comments.
I would I agree but I've always thought the Q1, Q2, Q3 format was genius - each session building up to it's own climax. Furthermore, more often than not, you can see how the race will vaguely pan out from the qualifying positions. However, qualifying was so mixed up today, with it seeming to rely so much on tyres that I've not sure who's going to be where tomorrow. This is the race I've most looked forward to this season, post-qualifying.
p.s. Thanks for the link
Hello all. Shall I mention the second biggest feel good story of the F1 year or has it been beaten to death?
Morning, everyone.
You're talking about Fisi? He's been the talk of the town for the last 12 hours.
I missed quali and thought the AUTOSPORT site had been hacked when I saw the quali results. Then I saw Badoer last and spun and figured it must be legit
Hi Joe and Journeyer
I would be very surprised if we don't see a Turn 1 accident of some sort.
I shall continue the 'Lou goes to bed' conversation over here and ask if I can fill in for Amy until she arrives?
Jenson Button's Australia win? :P
I figured as much. A great story. almost as good as Luca on the crux of scoring points
...and that was the night I created disco. JUICY AS HELL!
Looking at the grid and the weights I am expecting Kimi to disappear into the distance.
sorry : http://kruiradio.org/listen
That is even spookier than Amy turning up just as Lou mentioned her
Schumacher's non comeback?
Time for sleepies I think, goodnight spc :)
No, Luca's invevitable points paying positon....come on, I mean, he is in a Ferrari
night..
I'm sayin, hes set to cut through the feild. been sandbagging
Sad day in my household with news on Autosport that Aussie racing legend, Frank Gardner, has passed away. His book is just barely still in existance on my bookshelf - I read it that many times when I was younger
Good night brother SPCer
He's wiley, that one
I got two words for you: Trulli Train.
Indeed. Heard about it yesterday. He will be missed.
A Trulli train would be okay with me, if he stayed in front
Night Lukeh
Him in 2nd would be awesome - would give Fisi a chance to build up some sort of a lead and give him a decent chance at the win.
It would also allow Mr Button to keep in touch with them.
I saw that story too.
1 Hour till the IRL race from Chicago, who'll be hanging out to watch it?
It never works though, if you're backing everyone up, you just get overtaken by about 8 cars in the pitstops....
I had 3 hours sleep last night due to NASA so I have to sleep tonight
god wouldnt that be awesome?
I might. I could actually watch it live if I wanted next door...no NFL tonight anybody wants to watch, thank jebus
I never thought about that option. Very interesting. SpeedTV was reporting that Fisi is being talked about to finish the year for Ferrari. That would be good, because I would love to see Liuzzi back in a race seat
Tomorrow will give us more on-track passing than the rest of 2009 combined
I probably will. ;)
Again, I've been saying that all weekend. it was obvious he was up to someting in fp2
We'll hanging then.
I'm not concerned about Trulli's chances - I'm concerned about Fisi's chances (and the Brawns).
I guess Fisi's performance shows what he can do when he thinks there is the possibility of a Ferrari contract.
as much of an LH fas I am, I cant help but get excited for this race and these guys.
I mean, I was talking trash about toyo never getting close to be in contention and here we are
not sure i can make it... we'll see
:D It's like he just woke up!
Fisi's pole will more or less kill the notion of backmarker teams.
Right now, STR is the closest thing you have to a backmarker team. Well, of course there's Badoer, but his teammate's not a backmarker at all...
I can't believe Ferrari would sign him. Hr is nothing special. They would be better putting someone younger in the car who may respond well to the challenge and give them something for the future. Fisi would be faster than Badoer and would not be running around dead last all the time but Ferrari must have more ambition than that
Trulli has had so many chances near th frnt and blown all of them. He is fine until one car passes him then it seems to rattle him. Then car after car passes him.
They do - and he goes by the name of Fernando Alonso. Said newcomer can't be so good that they'd suddenly have 4 drivers and 2 seats to fill. Which is why they could be settling for someone who won't... rock the boat, so to speak.
Well, there is still the Bianchi option.
If I was Mallya I would wait till someone else got the Ferrari drive then fire him for not trying for the rest of the season
If you'd been driving
right.
ohh neighbors are having aparty out back. must check it out. brb
I disagree. It is just a blip
Fire the guy who just got your pole position a year earlier than planned? No way! I mean, this pace is probably down to the upgrades they put in.
I am talking about filling Massa's seat till the end of the season or he comes back. Alonso won't do that.
I was dissappointed that Sutil did not end up in Q3. But 11th isn't bad. Two FI's score in one race.
Have you ever seen Minardi take pole? Also, when was the last time both FI's were in the back row?
I saw a Minardi take second on the grid with Martini
Once
I know - but if said newcomer is so good, then he'd be in the frame for a 2010 seat, too. That's what Alonso doesn't want. And if Ferrari seem to want him so bad, they'll just get someone who won't threaten Fernando.
Do you mean when they split qualifying into two days and they stumbled ass-backwards into first after the track dried out, but quickly lost pole the next day
USGP 1990, right? But with the field much tighter now and this pole coming in Round 12 rather than Round 1, this strikes me as very different.
I think Martini's P2 was legit.
If they put Bianchi in the seat and he is good they will pack him off to Sauber just like they did with Massa and put him on a long contract.
Yep, Magny-Cours.. can't remember the year
What Sauber? Theissen-Sauber is no sure thing right now... And if he's good in a Ferrari right off the bat, why let him go off somewhere else?
I will be back at 0200 for the IRL race.
It was. I don't see a Force India getting near the front again this season. I still don't understand how it happened today because they have not looked like they had that pace all weekend.
If they do well here, they might surprise us at a track like, say, Suzuka.
Because they have at lest two and possibly three signed drivers for next season already plus they want to add another car for the ghost of Xmas past.
BMW have to unload the team. The idea that they can just turn it into an R&D centre is crazy. Theissen and Sauber will get it and put Ferrari engines in the car and probably badge them as Petronas before.
Are they serious with this 3rd car for Schumi thing? Given his condition, that's like... nuts!
You could be right. We shall see.
I don't see how they can stay near the front in the race. I expect to see Fisi, Trulli and Heidfeld heading backwards. It is a shame we are not running to next years rules. Imagine they had don that with everyone qualifying with no fuel and with no pit stops for them to lose out on strategy. The first ten laps tomorrow would be incredible as the faster guys make their way forward and have to actually pass the guys at the front instead of sitting their till they pit and then putting in 5 or 10 quick laps and coming out of the pits ahead.
That's Ferrari. We also have more cars entered for next season than for several years.
Indeed. Well, you never know. We didn't expect these results in a dry quali. Let's just see what the race gives us.
I'm working my way through the Sidepodroadtrip comments :-)
I see them as the McLaren 'B' team. I expected them to be closer to the front all season. They are finally making the most of the relationship.
Did they just luck into the right aero package for the weekend? We'll see.
Has anyone else noticed that Jonathan Summerton has dissappeared from the Firestone Indy Lights series. I suspect he's getting fitted for a seat with USF1
thought he was in Atlantics but I haven't paid a lot of attention
Sorry everyone waiting to live comment on the IRL race, it'll be about another hour before they go green
I made it to 2am but I can't manage any more so no live IRL for me.. night all
True, but he seemed all motivated for the FIL series, but then faded away....I really think he's got one of the USF1 gigs
See you Pat
JOE! in FL! MEE TOO!
got tapped to take photos for neighbors not-bar-mitzpha-cause they're latino or something party
Summerton for the gig or you're in Fla too?
be back in a bit but we have to chat
florida. Jacksonville
I doubled the american F1 fan count here at SPC, you know... me and you
I lived in Atlantic Beach for a while and in Green Cove Springs
roger that, my brother
too rich for my blood. riverside, FTW! I like the neighborhood down here, close to five points
Yeah been there. I worked for Clay County Fire/Rescue but moved onto greener pastures
working on that myself...fired off a "i'd be happy to mop your floors' @ USF1 email to peter windsor the other day. Finger crossed - would be a dream
will be back. for sure tomorrow - managed to sleep through quali last night, kicking self repeatedly
Good luck! My real dream is Scott Speed and Summerton in the seats. I really used to love to go to five points, some really great shops in that area
If you're out, talk to you later
Yawn yawn yawn. It's too late.... :(
Okay, if anyone is still awake, there'll be live commenting on the IRL race starting soon
Too late...too late for what?
Awakeness! Certainly too late for listening to noisy cars!
Never too late for that, Missy. But if it means you need sleep for the F1 race, then I can let you go
I'm waiting for my bf to ring me. Then I can go to sleep....
www.indycar.com
I hope you're not expecting me to understand what's going on..... I'm pretty new to F1, anything else is totally beyond me!
It's just about people running really fast in a circle. But Indycar.com has the best fan access, maybe you can be enlightened.
I think I watched the last race here with folks. The website was really good as I recall.
It's is and I am able to watch the race in HD, unlike F1
Oh my god, 0.8 seconds separating 10 cars.... That's lethal! How can they get that close?
Dont really know, but fun to watch
Sarah Fisher working the feild, go girl!
I've been very annoyed with this this year b/c I left my TV in Iowa when I moved to FL. Only this weekend have I found any live streams thanks to the good folks here at SPC

You just need a tv tuner for your computer. solves most problems in my life :P
Nice to see we've been able to help you out. :)
yeah still requires an active cable connection, and I'm not really looking to fork over any amount of $$$ to the local cable company if I can avoid it. They're truly the lowest of the low. Comcast Cable. Look into it :\
I should mention I know how to make the connection myself, but I would much rather participate in a legal system for F1 content, simply because I believe in it much more than the other things I d/l regardless of copyright issues (movies)
legal system for F1 content? does not compute. :D just kidding. it's just that bernie makes it so difficult to watch F1 if you don't have a broadcaster showing it.
You should be able to watch it an FOM site, even if they make it pay per view.
Bernie is too concerned with his TV revenue - he doesn't want it going down in any way. He doesn't want to compete against his own broadcasters.
At least that's how he sees it, anyway.
Again, I'll point out that once the live coverage is over, nobody is going to be infringing and if they do a good job with the coverage live is where its at.
nobody in their right mind want to wait for a delayed race unless they've got serious problems
Evening everyone,
I actually wish that F1 would follow the same thing which the NFL does. What they do is have a independent subsidiary film the games and have them archived and show them liberally in markets around the world. The NFL makes a profit on this, it isn't much but it does an infinite amount of good in marketing and promoting the sport.
Not to mention they already offer live timing and scoring so most passionate viewers are already watching some form of covereage via PC/internets
NFL Films? They're cool - and the narration is quite something. :D
I should point out it's taken nearly 8 hours to get a decent d/l of quali this morning...talk about anticipation
I think I am going to start smoking 10,000 cigarettes and drink scotch so I can get this guy's voice.
heheh. ;) you haven't watched it yet? you'll enjoy it - for sure! :D
his voice is amazing.
They had two of the best sports voice over guys I have ever heard: John Facenda and Harry Kalas. Plus the who NFL films soundtrack still sends shivers down my spine and makes me want to start tailgating at Qwest. I am so glad I renewed my Seahawks season tickets this year.
Back to F1. It amazes me more and more every day how inept F1 comes to new media and exploiting on-line technology. Even the IRL is broadcast in HD, and live timing that have bells and whistles we could only dream of. It still blows my mind.
And they have only just now managed on board HD cameras in most cars - not sure if they've even got them in all of them yet. un frickin believable, I've got a kodak HD camera that weights about 4 ounces and acan film several hours worth of HD for about $200
And that's the thing - their style of delivery has changed little over the decades, yet it still has the same power and the same effect.
IRL has to do it when they're so far behind popularity-wise. Bernie will only do it if he needs to, I think. I hope whoever succeeds Bernie in the future will go down this path.
Why do I get the feeling that Bernie is the type of guy who would never leaves a tip despite being worth billions.
so the technology is definitely there - it's just a question of what Bernie will do.
hows that IRL race? I'm d/ling, torrenting, updating itunes and streaming a live set from my friends studio in Iowa City. Not sure my pc or wireless card could cope
my bandwidth can't handle the video. audio is telling me that the racing is close right now.
Oh my sweet lord, those pitstops are so so dangerous!
It not as good as it was in the CART days. Personally, they have way too many ovals on the schedule and they need to get away from the standard chassis and engine. The good news is that they are opening things up the next few years.
What are you watching?
dan - yeah the engine/chassis thing is the only major compaint I have (oval issues aside, I agree 100%, we've already got enough left-turn-only series out there).
And the technology has existed for a long time, but yeah bernie is the kind of d-bag who leaves a straight 10% tip if that...
The thing that I never got with the IRL is why do they try to out-NASCAR NASCAR. CART was strong because it was an compelling alternative to NASCAR in every way. It makes me want to pull my hair out.
Actually, I think he makes someone else tip and when they get up to leave, he takes the tip off the table.
What a terrible reputation to have.
Lack of imagination? Or maybe this was Tony George's vision of what he wanted when he split with CART?
rofl
What I find ironic is that when Tony George split the series, he cited too much power with the powerful team, (mainly Penske and Newman-Haas) and too many foreign drivers in the series. Now look at the IRL. The top four drivers in the league are from outside the US and the league is dominated by two team, Penske and Ganassi.
wow those in car views are fantastic. being able to ride w/them around a couple laps really give you a better feel for what these guys do.
IRL-CART was complete BS. Lets not get into it, it has single-handedly killed the open wheel image in the US
a glitch in my laptop shopping plans, shop is closed on sundays
I hear ya. I'm still angry. I used to go to the race in Vancouver and Portland almost every year and watch great racing. Now... nothing. I cannot believe we have an open wheel series which Montreal, Road America, Road Atlanta, Portland, Vancouver, Laguna Seca, and Phoenix don't have races.
another thing I should mention - in the US satellite market, as far as I can tell, the most popular services dont offer speed, or they cost extra, or something, because when I try to watch the F1 races at a local sports bar that opens 7am, I can never find it.
Much more football centric on this side, and it really sucks
ohh I;m so torn; finally completed the download of quili, but this race is heating up a bit, last laps and all
You can thank Rupert Murdoch. They've done a terrible job with SpeedTV since they bought it when it was Speedvision. The channel has been buried and not only that, reality TV shows and NASCAR coverage has really killed the things that made the old Speedvision great.
Awwww :(
You're just the person I was looking for! I'm planning a trip to NZ. I have no idea where I should go once I get there.
dan - you dont have to tell me, man. For the longest time it was all nascar all the time, and they STILL focus on that crap at the expense of any/every other series out there. Even the grassroots sprint and drag series have been left for dead and those are the living arteries of american motorsports. Growing up in Iowa I had 8 or 9 dirt trackers on my street, on a thursday night you could hear the screams of those modified engines all night long.
*sigh
OMG SPLIT SCREEN ON SPECIFIC DRIVERS!?!?!?
WOW that was a close finsih
i found another shop that google says is open so i am on a train!
was wondering where everyone went off to
ooh alison when i get home i shall help if i can but i never did the tourist in my own country thing so i havent been to a lot of the places people traditionally go :)
I'm gonna watch quali now, finally.
Again, the IRL race was very very close, two and three wide right up to the line with, what, .003 of a second between first and second. A matter of inches at a couple hundred miles an hour.
Ovals arent always the best to watch, but the finishes can be terriffic fun.
Can't you tell I've been listening to SPC for a while now? I'm even starting to type with a british accent.
Thanks, christine.
I missed the finish. Who won?
Hehehe. Yeah, I know that feeling. That'd be really helpful though thanks :)
Saw it. Nice!
success! Got the last one in the store!
Woooo! I hope you fought someone off to get it!
What were you looking for?
Right, this is stupidly late. I'm off for some nappage!
Or early, depending on how you see it. ;)
Later, Alison.
pretty new laptop just in time to live comment spa :)
OMG! What are the specs?
its a vaio sr46, google it :) the guy was shocked to hear my hinge story.
will duly google it - after lunch! :D
enjoy your new lappie. ;)
the $1000 i saved by not buying the Z48 i really wanted has gone into my spa fund :)
OMG edie jordan is such a toolbag
'stratigists are absolute rubbis' in pre-r5555555555555555555555555555h
NO KITTY! NO COMMENTS FOR YOU!
That pre-quali mclaren strategy bit
EJ saying that strategy can't ever determine who you come out of the pits in front of, etc
wheres lukehs EJ muppet pic... *rummages around a bit in yesterdays thread
at top of SPC dropi page
To be fair, he's right about that part. How can you predict who'll be involved in 1st corner incidents, who'll make a mess of their pitstops, who'll put in storming laps, who'll spin off and get out of position?
yes BUT
if you run enough simulations, barring outliers like accidents and the like, it's not out of the realm of reason to say those stratigists have some hand in the way these races are won
knowing race weights this year, for instance, give these guys even more accurate forcasts because they know the maximum everyone else can run, and the likely window and number of stops everyone else will run
allowing for these guys to adjust their plans after q
ej does a whole lot of slapping doesnt he?
Man the interview with Fisi before q says everything doesnt it?
Having seen the number of times these computers tell drivers to go onto 3 stop strategies, I've lost almost all faith in them...
I'm not saying sack them all! But I do think people are much better at thinking on their feet and adapting to changing situations than if they're too reliant on computers. Eddie doesn't mean what he said either. He just likes to be sensational.
I really am going to bed.
see you soon ;D
only a couple hours until the parade lap
okay imma take a nap but I'll leave it with something that gave me a good chuckle.
Upon achieving pole, Fisi is told 'Not bad mate'.
I'll be back for the parade lap. Looking forward to the race.
Amazing
everytime I get a new computer it has twice the useless software installed of the one before it. I might just have to spend the rest of the day uninstalling things I WILL NEVER USE
:D Don't worry, it'll be worth it.
I wish the race was starting now or at least the parade lap
Morning.
they call it bloatware for a reason.
Morning!
I am so excited, and I just can't hide it! I agree with Nathan, I wish the race was NOW!
100 minutes to the Parade Lap. My gut tells me this race will be very exciting.
Hehe, you really don't. I just woke up, it would be mumbled nonsense.
That sounds pretty interesting, actually. :D
good afternoon
In good news new computer picks up wireless signals where old computer didn't. Goodbye, network issues!
Sounds like my Travels in Sidepodland piece then :)
w00t!
watching GP2, looks like Hulkenberg out after first corner. and lap 2 SC after another incident.
Never though about trying to watch the gp2 race
it is action filled fun :-)
http://www.justin.tv/bababarbar
got it now on p2pstation
lot of smoke from the cars through eau rouge
Looks like someone has an engine problem
di Grassi jumping over Mortara :-)
or was it brake smoke
Martin Haven (commentator on British Eurosport) said it was the cars bottoming out
Sorry I saw more smoke before the crash but difficult to see where it was from on the streaming video
hehe :)
Morning everyone...
Small child report - they wake up early!
In other news I have watched Madagascar and Lilo and Stitch this morning.
needs more pixar
Should be watching Roary the Racing Car on race day!
I like to... MOVE IT!
I have not seen either of these.
looking at all the versions of the 2010 calendar and wondering what has happened to the Korean GP. Wasn't that one planned for 2010 ?
was wondering that too. quietly postponed to 2011 like india, perhaps?
they even had the logo for 2010 ....
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21283.html
All the news stories about it seem old (2006)
well the logo was revealed this year.
I meant about the Korean GP there are stories about it being confirmed around 2006 and then this one about the logo March 2009 but nothing in between.
Lilo and Stitch is ace... Madagascar is sort of okay.
Ah a man who knows.
James Allen on the Spa PA!!!
Absolutely! Apparently Theo has seen all of the Pixar movies too many times.
His biggest obsession however is Garfield the Movie. Which he call Catfield.
Hellllllllllllllllllo!!!!!! What a day yesterday, I don't think I have been this happy since, well, Canada 08.
Alex, did you see my Spa fund now has $1000 thanks to buying a cheaper laptop? :D
Awesome!
I'm guessing the Spa Cat is out of the bag for Christine.
I saw a "What?" somewhere
Hmm.
Ahh.
Riiight.
oh oh oh I took a trip to the F1 store today to get a price on Brawn stuff for Paul.
Videos as seen here http://qik.com/video/2719116
and here http://qik.com/video/2719129
Just read in the ahem, Sunday Express they are hosting the British GP same day as the world cup final, who thought up that?
Expect the British GP date to change, then.
Cool! You're teh best
Thanks Amy!
Amy that F1 shop is huge. Can only get Ferrari stuff here in Thailand.
Hope they didn't think you were weird videoing in-store :D
the polo as shown in the video was $99.95 and the Jenson t shirt above it was $49.95. The dearest thing I found was a Renault shirt for $290 :D There was probably Ferrari stuff for a bit more but I didn't even bother looking at evil red clothing.
You can also buy the signed Schumacher helmet for $4000 if you wish :D
ahaha thats why I wasn't saying anything, the woman was following me around :(
I can't believe that we haven't had any game suggestions from Dan Brunel this week! ;)
Does he dare show his face? :)
Hehe. Might skip the helmet, but the trshirts look good. Easier than positng over seas
they also had a Brawn wallet for $29.95 but other than that there was nothing Brawny. They still have a 2007 womens McLaren jacket that I ponder every single time I go in there.
Did they have a web site?
Has anyone seen the Force India tshirts for sale yet. Ive got one but I think it's last years. There new stuff is all Reebok.
just the old out of date one http://f1specialevents.com/
Cool, thats all I needed. I'll bookmark it this time!
cool, I guess you can give them a ring and order anything over the phone, looks like they charge $10 for delivery Aus-wide :D
Awsome. You should be a tour guide
Found the new motorhome for Force India's next race.
Here
Ignore link. Was to a metal shed in B&Q. wouldn't work
*sits in the daily thread*
As advised by Lou, we're back in the daily. :D
3.2.1 and you're back in the daily!
Oooooo I'm back in the Daily.
i'll be spending the afternoon editing photos and sorting through everything from holiday. anyone else up to anything interesting?
Can't wait for MotoGP! Pedrosa's been dominant all weekend, they say. But can he keep the Yamahas behind him later?
sleeping!
ok then. conspiricy theory 101 continued
getting rid of my headache and am going to fix my bike which is uber broke
Not much - watching History, killing time before 125 kicks off.
night Amy. :)
Watching the cycling and taking note of the conspiricy stuff!
sounds awesome. :)
err, ahhh...live stream somewhere?
I think you should spend some time hunting down Grosjean for quotes like this "I was keeping a good pace but then Button took me out at turn five and it was the end for me."
for motoGP? i wouldn't know - i don't run extra streams for MotoGP, I'm happy with the coverage we have. :D
that said, jonny should be airing it somewhere...
Conspiracies only work if you add to them
I'm just trying to decide what to do! There so much..
...what? button took him out? i thought it was the other way round?
it was. Grosjean is off in Grosjean-land
ahh. hmmm. flav installed a puncture mechanism in the tires so if p-k said no, he'd send him into the wall at the end of the straight.
added.
funny cause I've often wondered about little things like that.
whos to say bernie wasnt the one in charge of it?
OOPS
I got the shuttle ISS docking time slighly wrong. It is at 1am in the morning not lunchtime so I can still watch it.
Yeah but some of them are interesting.
c'mon ppl, we're working on a conspiracy here. The one guy walking around the room with a tin-foil hat will not give much weight to the conversation
Just read the Pk claims, how does everyone feel about him?
what is this game they're playing with a white ball and feet?
I'm confused. where are the motors?
Good for you. :D
:D
it has some weird name. foot-ball, they call it...
cricket, but not so much with their feet!
GP casualties keep piling up huh? dont they wear helmets in the pitlane like in F1?
Nono, that involves hands and a little brown ball. Pretty sure of it.
heh. cricket. another one of those sports a lot of people watch, but only cause they forget to turn the tv off when they're napping
like golf
Cricket frightens me.
ohh good pic of button, hamilton and grosjean on speed.tv after the crash. none are looking at the others
but I am at the ground :P
soccor makes me tired just watching.
cricket makes me feel young.
golf makes me wonder if they've got adult diapers at the corner station.
hmmm. do button and hamilton have issues? it's not like they were directly involved, right? grosjean, though...
I'd imagine getting wrecked at the 2nd corner and not knowing exactly who did would make some tempers simmer. Better not saying anything at all, amiright?
good point.
they were both pretty wound up, I woldnt read too much into it...
from what i gather Button and Hamilton have no real problems with each other, i think they were probably just frustrated, and looking for the easiest way to get back to their teams..
And just being shunted off anyway would make you a little steamed so its either try to punch someone one or just look really annoyed for a while and say nothing.
wonders what going to jail in belgium for a fist-fight on internation television would be like
Jenson looks like a catalogue model here
waffles. every day.
even pureed one scraped from the front grills of passing cars
We've had 6 winners so far this year. For reference, we had 7 last year and 8 in 2003.
and Lewis too. :D are you sure they didn't have an impromptu photoshoot? ;)
Argh the cycling is too exciting!
there is TONS of photos of the four of them just standing around, I think they must have :D
They are so posing in a catalogue shoot kind of way. All thats missing is the beach shot in the background.
the background ain't so bad. nice and rugged.
Now imagine Dr Mario in the shot too.
was I asleep for a year or did that Piquet Alonso Singapore story just came out today ?
yup - during the race, actually.
of, so I was not asleep, I watched the race :-)
joes confirmed on his blog
It came out on Brazilian TV
ehehehehe :D
offical investigation even. all legal like
so, then it is all done. Piquet will never ever set foot in F1 paddock, Renault will quit F1 is disgrace, Flavio will take over, Alo will leave Renault tomorrow and will replace BAD in Ferrari and Mallya will get to keep Fisi :-)
ahh. yeah, actually. damn that was quick. I was going to wear my foil hat a bit longer but jeez, you took all the fun out of it

I told you he smiles
that's brilliant! :D
he does
#FR Here is my usual analysis of the Fantasy Racers Scores from today's grand prix.

more of a smirk, really
That was quick.
you know, the kind that says "i'm rich, I drive the fastest ferraris ever made, I'm the bad guy chicks love to crush on, and you know you're secretly so jealous you'd brain me if ever we met in a darkened alley'
I started it during the forum ;)
:D
125cc is on - Indy!
FWIW, the F1 grid markings are still there.
Right - off for a run, see ya later!
how about any of these
1 2 3 4 5
Clearly he can only smile when surrounded by his countrymen :D
Hi, my name is Amy and I keep a folder of Finn pictures
:D
oh and because I can't leave out OriginalFinn
those were the days...
Hehehe! Amazing :)
ehehe i like this photo
might have to motogp up on jonny, theyre looking into it
just like one big happy family
Ron in a tee-shirt! :O
what kind of dirty finnish joke do you think they were sharing?
Playboy Kimi?
Also... i swear f1 photographers have the best job in the world...
I think they were discussing ways to hide from me next time they're in town
thats a given.
blurry shots of cars moving too fast for me to follow? check
half naked beauties running around posing? check
free food and travel? check.
Yeah, I'd say so
Piquet is Finnish??
There were a few Finns before him
not ones I care about :D
Kimi looks like he has just walked off the set of Miami Vice
also I am positive that in http://twitpic.com/ftuwi it is Catherine next to him so why have I not seen photos of her since Brazil last year. Come on photographers, stalk the girlfriends more.
nothing says pimpin' like a white suit
http://www.jamd.com/image/in-search/formula+1/#112g90184554
jaime in spanish "YOU a$$! Why you try to stay on the road in front of me!?"
Lewis "Listen here, sonny..."
hehe i'd so want to be given a chance at being an f1 photographer :)
There were photos of her this season. You posted them
And a massive gold chain ;)
you're good enough!
http://www.jamd.com/image/in-search/formula+1/#114g90184548
"so what do you reckon, Jenson, one bar of soap in the sock or two when we beat that little spanish turd tonight?"
oh thats right. There was one race, ages ago! Last year she popped up every time. Although there used to be 1000 of Anando's wife every race too and shes pretty rare now these days too.
more catalogue shots. heh. :D
anyway, brb for the debrief. ;)
gravit8ed - can you tone it down a little bit please? Have already had to edit some of your comments for language.
There seemed to be a few seasons where the wives got as much coverage as th drivers. Connie Montoya was never off TV. ITV used to interview her regularly
hehe if i ever make it into the paddock i'll help your f1 wife + girlfriend stalking needs ;)
How awkward for them all milling around there waiting to be rescued!
One of the shots looks like Jenson's about to punch Lewis. I'm pretty sure that wasn't what was going on, but it all looked so tense....
now the only person they look at is THAT woman...
Button - "Grosjean out-braked himself and hit my back wheel. I don't think he was even trying to overtake me."
Grosjean - "I made a very good start, moving up to thirteenth place and I was keeping a good pace but then Button took me out at turn five and it was the end for me,"
Einstein - "everything is relative" :-)
Hehehe.
there is always plenty of photos of Jessica though :D
sorry mrs c.
*washes mouth out with soap
hehehe
i see Grosjean has learnt from Vettel's apologies in Australia this year...
official - FIA launching the probe into Singapore GP - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78195
My brother says 'why do you care' but we are girls, it's what we do. We want to know what happens off track as well as on it. (well, some of us)
Thank you for the FR stats, Steven. My hero again :)
oh yeah :) but i like her :D plus she likes photography... lol
Drivers are alway tense when their race ends so quickly. Especially when there is no way to get back to the pits and they just have to hang about there.
Oops... my doohickey loaded up the race thread accidentally. My bad.
Only 12 months too late...
http://tinyurl.com/kscp2k - sad looking Brawn people :(
Jenson's girlfriend and Massa's wife get some coverage. I think the current generation of drivers are more accessible to the media so they have stopped interviewing wives and fathers.
Schumacher's wife used to be shown on TV every five minutes during a race.
Also props to Lou for getting everyone back in the daily :)
Almost every racing driver in the world - It was the other guy's fault
:)
they are all correct :-)
when is it not? honestly.
Is that because your second team is beating Mr C's top team. Although I am sure you wouldn't mention that on the show
Why would you apologise though? You just get a penalty from the stewards....
What does props mean. I see lots of people using it and I have no idea where it comes from
Vettel in australia admitted the crash with Kubica was his fault. He got a 10 place grid penalty for it. Wonder why no-one else admits to an accident?
I wouldn't want to laugh and point at Mr C, would I? That would just be mean.
:D
Vettel apologised because he has good manners and the stewards are too ignorant to read what actually happened from the video
It wasn't really 100% his fault either. I don't think that's my bias talking. It was just that he did the nice thing, apologised to Kubica and to his team and was given a penalty for his troubles.
I am sure he wouldn't sulk and we would never mention it again.
I actually didn't know, which makes me feel stupid for saying something when I didn't know what it was...
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=props
So tell me, what have I missed in the comments this past week? :P
It was a racing incident. The stewards should just have let it go. Two young guys being aggressive and a little bit optimistic
wouldnt want to bring the sport into disreputed now would they? They got a reputation to uphold
When Rubens cut the corner today, he should've taken the line like this
:P
I assumed I was the only one who didn't know. I should have checked the urban dictionary
Do you think Lewis is wishing he had a bit more hair? or is just trying to copy Jenson?
He smiled! he wasn't that angry then....
fingers mashing buttons again. should probably get out a bit today, maybe go to the beach or something...
Then again, true blood is on tonight. if not for the race this weekend, thats all I'd have been thinking about this week
Link fail.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-hbMkJImZs
I thought it was some kind of practical joke to make me keep clicking at it and have nothing happen :P
how long has DC been writing for autosport?
http://www.autosport.com/features/article.php/id/2353
you guys do get true blood over that way dont you?
He does a column in every issue that is published before a race. He started at the beginning ofthe season
Never heard of it
so it's from this weeks paper mag, but it's online already?
stephen moyer plays a vampire that gets together with a telepath played by anna paquin. very hot stuff. good show on HBO
I am avoiding it on purpose because I find vampire shows intolerably boring.
He does it the week before the race so it should be from Thursday's. Is it the column which ends with him saying he knows Schumacher's neck injury is real because he put him in a headlock last Saturday night?
I'd like to read eddie jordan, just for laughs. does he publish anything or does writing require too much initial thought?
I have never been a vampire fan. I still think of Anna Paquin as the little girl in The Piano
"I know Michael helped Luca as best as he could, but I discovered that Michael's neck injury is genuine when I put him in a headlock on Saturday night – he seemed very uncomfortable! I was just mucking around, but it seems like it's a serious one and only nature will decide when he's fit enough to race again."
w00t! autosport FTW!
I haven't seen him write a column anywhere. His book is worth a read.
See, he's even helping by wrestling schumacher when knowing about the neck. DC is secretly a genius.
I mentioned that on Thursday and you commented on it.
yeah there is a glut of bad vamp stuff out there (twilight, anyone?) but this is very well written and produced.
Plus, ahh, anna paquin. n****. very. not for the kids so much.
pulling best ratings for hbo since that mobster show everyone thought was so great.
plus that show has a guy from Home and Away in it, so I cannot take him seriously
DC and Schumacher as wrestlers. If only we knew a photoshop genius
he used to do a column for F1 Racing until they decided Murray Walker was a better choice
a quote from tony dodgins following singapore:
"Nobody at Fuji wanted to say so on the record, but many teams thought that Renault had carefully plotted Alonso's Singapore win and were very suspicious that Nelson Piquet had crashed at precisely the right moment to trigger the safety car which swung the race towards Alonso."
"On the lap after Fernando's stop, Piquet received a radio instruction, "Push, Nelson!" At the time he was still stuck down in 16th position behind Barrichello's Honda, where he'd been from the start, so the instruction itself didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. Coded instruction, it has been suggested."
"One team strategist I spoke to in Japan put it like this: "Looking at it from a purely statistical point of view, on a track like Singapore, stopping on lap 12 is not aggressive, it's stupid. It's something which cannot work. Your grandmother wouldn't do it.""
just an fyi, for you all. will probably look at this in the show. all thoughts now or then are welcome.
rightly so. thumbed through the book a while back, should probably pick it up again
gravit8ed, that is NOT appropriate conversation for this site.
hence that disclaimer. no more said.
i don't care. we're not interested in such talk. thanks.
ohhh kay then. really not trying to get on the bad side here...
Interesting. Like a lot of people at the time I suggested as a joke that it was planned but it never occurred to me that it was. It would be interesting to see what kind of penalty Max could dream up for this as he doesn't seem to like punishing Renault.
Carlos Ghosn would dump the team immediately if this turns out to have any truth in it just to show that there is no connection to Renault and of course Piquet senior wants to buy a team allegedly.
ah-ha. hadn't thought about that. he doesn't actually have the money though does he?
Imagine Piquet jr coming back to Enstone telling Briatore "You are fired ! " :-)
He wouldn't need much to buy it and the story always was that Piquet junior had the Renault drive because Carlos Slim Helu insisted and he is one of the three richest men in the world.
whoops...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/wwf1-jpg
MY EYES!
:D
:D
all kinds of wrong in that image.
Genius
dreamed LH last night, now I fear for sleep tonight
Ah-hah! I knew BMW were up to something when they withdrew. They've been throwing cash at this beastie: http://jalopnik.com/5348573/bmws-new-turbodiesel-tron-hybrid
I think Fisi would have won if it hadn't been for that safety car/his poor restart. I just don't think he remembered the best thing to do. He didn't seem to back anyone up at all.
Okay so the problem with the p-k theory is one I think Amy brought up last night while talking about strategy and how all those men in front of monitors are for the most part useless;
That is, how could they anticipate being in a position where Alonso's early stop wouldnt be interrupted by the safety car beforehand, or some other incident that would have made p=k come in even earlier for a new nose or a flat, etc?
On the face of it one would think of all the various things that could go wrong and even Flav wouldnt be willing to risk it like that.
he did an awfully slow parade lap to the grid though. But I think you're mostly right, if not for the SC coming out kimi would have had to use the KERS very well to get up to Fisi at all, considering fisi's pace throughout the race.
I think we'll be talking about this one for a good while, less if FI can back it up with a good show at Monza.
I just realized the MotoGP is on tonight, there goes my sleep ...
That's the right thing to do as well though. Save you being held too long.
Lots of teams in the past when they were not competitive have taken risks that resulted in winning races that could have gone horribly wrong. Listen to Jordan talk about the times his team started on different tyres to anyone else and it worked. Many times team choose wets instead of inters etc and end up looking stupid but just occasionally they ge an unexpected win or podium.
If this really was planned it may have been planned a few times and only executed once when the conditions were right.
keeps everyone else from getting heat into the tires. I am still fascinated by how much heat those things actually take to stay effective. Even cruising around the circuit at speeds that would destroy my car arent enough to keep them as hot as those tire blankets.
He had less fuel than anyone so it was in his interest to use as littleas possible on the parade lap
Thats just a total gamble though based on the weather might do, the situation with Renault is a little different.
Of course I'm not saying it's impossible, even unlikey, which adds a strange sense of sure-ness to these claims from pk. Also, backs him up when he says he was basically used as a pick and tester for FA, because if they had this strategy on file what else were they waiting to try?
I agree but it would be interesting to see how often Alonso went on really low fuel that season. This weekend the BBC showed how many strategic scenarios McLaren run to findthe best way to attack the race. Maybe the best option for Renault was to go light and pray for a safety car with the back up plan of creating a safety car if none happmed naturally.
...fishing my foil hat out of the trash again
Yeah, in that gambling with your tyre choice is legitimate strategy choice. Using Piquet as a missile, perhaps not. Although tbh, he's probably more use to them punting people off and causing safety cars than he is doing anything else :D
Presumably though yes, they'd only give the signal if the conditions were right. Otherwise it isn't worth the risk.
I love it when a good conspiracy gets going :D
you may be onto something there.
this is a good one. however, if you had one shot to nail flavio, you'd make sure you picked a good one. right?
...which this isn't. Simply to many what ifs and weirdness, way to far down the line to consider. Last year, maybe, but in the end what did they achieve with this win?
ghosn requires one win per year to justify renault's involvement in f1.
i'd say it saved the team.
As I said earlier the great thing about F1 is there are so many possible conspiracy theories for any situation.
I remember this conspiracy theory that Ferrari had a special deal with the FIA and were allowed a say in writing the regs. Of course that turned out to be true.
You don't know what he's got as evidence. Aside from his testimony, he could have anything. If this can go any way toward being proved, Flav'll be long out the door.
Absolutely!! surely the fact the FIA are actually bothering with it with an independent investigation means that there's more to it than meets the eye, even if a silly conspiracy does get picked up in the press they get thrown asides because of how ludicrous they tend to be. I wanna know what happens next now!
Tis like a crime thriller, perhaps Flav really is the executioner in this tale of many chapters...
Renault needed to win to keep Alonso but their car improved and they did win in Japan on merit but lets face it Alonso had no where else to go.
Also, we should recall a generally calm political front since the teams signed the new agreement, and that keeps newspeople bored and out of work. Lawyers, too.
Anyone know what the annual legal budget for these teams is on average?
Carlos Ghosn is alwways threatening to pull Renault out of F1. A race win and the publicity that goes with it may have been enough to convince him to dign off their next budget.
What he said
and it may bury it a year later ...
ahhh it gets deeper
I dont but it would be hard to imagine they've got anything solid. As much of an eccentric as he is, he's not stupid.
You also have to remember Piquet senior has the dirt on Bernie.
yup. although their current performance may have done that anyways.
The won on merit in Japan and finished second in Brazil. If we had the same regs as last year Renault would have mounted a title challange.
and that lasted all the long 2 weeks ...
What better way is there to get back at your 'executioner' than to have him disgraced and his team withdraw.....
I think I need another layer of tin foil.
Except that he's involved blabbermouth Piquet in his ultra-secret plot then sacked him? That's pretty stupid!
It will simply make Renault pull out. There are all sorts of people looking for entries just now. The team won't disappear but the name above the door may change.
which brings up the obvious revenge item, and why if pk was asked to do this he didnt come forward much sooner when it became clear he wasnt getting fair treatment (or felt he wasnt) at Renualt
I doubt Flav will be able to get through this. If there's any evidence surely he'll be barred from any involvement with the sport. That's what the Piquets are after I'm sure.
well if PIQ is behind this than he may have shut himself out of F1 for good unless his dad buys him a team ... who would hire him ?
I liked Bernie's answer in F1R about Flav when asked if they were good friends. He talks how how strong his friendship with Di Montezemelo is, but ends with mentions "Is Flavio a good friend? Well he says he is...."
very stupid. at least he wasn't tweeting back then.
Provided its even true, not that I'm defending Flav we just don't know enough yet.
its all falling apart under so many obvious stuff...that it comes back together again. Maybe he want us to think he's not dumb enough to involve pk in something so brazen, gambling that everyone will write this off as a publicity stunt on the behalf of the piquet family, while actually using it for his own planning. Full circle.
oh my I'd best go to sleep. Shall catch the replay tomorrow!
good question. i guess any team who does things by the book will be find with it.
are there any?
g'night amy.
night Amy :)
"sooner" he was still F1 driver hoping to keep his seat, now he has no seat
If there is a seat going at McLaren I'd say there.
why would McLaren want Piquet ?
He'll do what they want i.e. backup Hamilton. Mind you I prefer their current driver partnership.
IIR, he wasn't very happy for most of the season. He managed to keep his mouth mostly shut but something like this would surely be burning a big h ole in his desire to stick around. Why would he wait to get canned? And wouldn't Flav be very hesitant to dump him so unceremoniously?
Night Amy.
Night Amy
This could do some real damage to everyone involved, and F1 in general. The spy-gate and LH's lying earlier this season would be little bumps compared to the accusations that one of the top teams was actively risking driver safety for results.
night amy.
interesting. hadn't thought about that.
Ron didn't even try to sign his father so they are not going to sign junior.
I'm not sure it works like that
the irony may be that staged crash for PIQ may have been safer for him then letting him race and spin as usual ....
very true, that's a horrible thought. if the Piquets do have conclusive evidence then it'll have huge aftershocks. I really hope it is all a silly conspiracy, but part of me also thinks 'Well.... it makes a little too much sense...'
In the real world that is true but in Maxworld?
Bernie would...errr *censored bricks if this turned out to be true. I cannot imagine the kind of fire that would reign down from on high
I fear we may see the start of a new twitter trend...
He's too hot headed for McLaren. They've been burned by Alonso. They need the cool headed Finns to functions properly....
may be interesting to watch how FIA handles this. the action FIA takes here may result in another manufacturer and engine supplier pulling out ...
Okay this is good: "DAD I'M LATE FOR SCHOOL AGAIN!"
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/29/faa-investigates-dad-who_n_272067.html
I do agree that he wouldn't work at McLaren, i was just pointing out that just because Sn wouldn't race dosent mean Jr wouldnt
Flavio must take a lot of comfort from Max. If Max can survive his scandal, surely it's possible to keep your job through any debacle.
very much so. and if toyota follow, there's not a lot of engines to go around.
This is true as well. LH has been hand-fed the MC-MC enignma handbook for years now, they'd not suffer that kind of openess. I was honestly surprised when the signed Alonso in the first place
Bernie would be quite happy because his only interest is that F1 gets lots of TV coverage regardless how it is arrived at
and there comes FIA saying - "Told ya so, here is the good old Cossie ..."
Max sees this as a sign that his work in the F1 world isn't complete. He has to stand again to 'restore some integrity to the sport'?
ahhh, bugger.
Are you still trying to get NZ info from Amy?
I think everyone assumed that LH would just be a great number 2 that pushed Nando but didnt beat him. A bit like Ross vs Lorenzo in the early days.
Turns out they were wrong and that LH probably was ready for a race drive ;)
Hahaha I bought a guide book :D
and whats that sound? it's the European Commission looking into Competition equality ;)
off topic a bit - weird watching these bikes lapping the Indy track the other way round the F1 cars used to :-)
yeeeaaa but he's got sponsors and insurers and all the legal mumbo-jumbo of thousand page contracts to think about (sure he pays others to do that but you get the idea).
I wouldnt think any track or facility would want to risk having a dead world-wide sports star being killed on live television. I'm sure we can all think about what happened the last time this occurred.
And, WWJD? (what would jackie do?)
Max is protected by the gutless blazers ofthe FIA. Carlos Ghosn is a whole different kettle of fish
Good call.
ahh, 2010 is already looking messy.
well, European commission may not like the current limkt on how many teams a manufacturer is allowed to supply. but not much they can do if there are no suppliers around ...
If Gavin is around you should have a word with him because he is a Kiwi even if he lives in Denmark.
wouldnt be F1 if it wasnt, now would it?
One of the reasons I hate NASCAR is because there simply isnt any real controversy. even with 30-odd teams showing up, there is hardly ever even a fist fight in the pits anymore. Its gotten boring, really
If only he had got Max's job when Max got it. Imagine what F1 would be like today
but i think they'd not like the fact the FIA demanded new teams bow down to cosworth, even more
oh and dont forget a new president too!
so, Fisi gets Force India on podium, gets his 30 minutes of fame, and then ALO PIQ and FLAV take over the show ...
I should point out I'm not a fan of violence in racing but they've tied these guys up so tightly they can hardly breath. Any post-race interview is ten minutes of sponsers thank-yous and ten seconds enything else.
Also, in Iowa, the dirt trackers and sprinters have PASSION that they bring with them on and off the track. Makes for good rivalries.
hehe. go fisi!
back to the theories...maybe it's just a way to drum up more free advert from the twisted depths of Flavios strange little mind, but I cant imagine he'd have gone off the reservation so far to think it would be good for him in the long run.
You know how when you're soo close to something for so long you start thinking weird things about protecting it? Maybe he's hoping for something for the team that we're missing.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78206
Domenicali on Massa's replacement post Spa. Interesting are also the last few paragraphs re Kimi and his future:
"It is important to understand the situation and I don't think it is a point of discussion that we need to start today. That is the answer."
*chews on it for a second
Kimi on the podium now 3x in a row, something happened to him when massa got hit. maybe he realized how much he likes running. Somebody said something about having a giant grin under his helmet during a race. I could see some truth in that.
But then rallying is a whole other ball of birt-covered wax, and nothing is nearly as heart-pumping as turning 120mph 2ft from the tress with about 1/2 inch of contact patch on the ground. And if he's going anywhere else, its to rally. That man can drive on dirt.
wasnt massa supposed to get a metal plate installed? If true he wont be back, I dont think, until next year. Insert more conspiracy theories on 3x Ferrari cars on the grid.
Which brings us back to Alonso. Again. With FA, Renault is in a serious world of hurt next year.
sorry without
Renault don't deserve Alonso. He was right to leave for 2007, he shouldn't have gone back.
he did not have that many choices that time ...
Hahaha no! He shouldn't have made such a prat of himself at McLaren. But hey, that's hindsight for you :)
we all knew it was just a stop gap until he went to ferrari
It won't happen, it can't unless every team gets the option to run 3 cars, and that can't happen.
To be fair it wasn;t his fault ron Dennis is such an utter plonker!
Here's a question though; would he have preferred being at Mclaren under the management of Martin Whitmarsh rather than Ron Dennis? Lewis was basically Ron's favourite little project that he watched over no matter what, but not so much Whitmarsh of course.
I somehow do not see that situation in McLaren in 2007 so black and white ... but well, that does not have that much to do with Singapore 2008. oh well other than there may be Alonso connection in another serious punishment for a team he raced for :-)
I disagree. Alonso made his own problems. It's not like Ron Dennis was an unkown quantity. He had been running an F1 team for 25 years by that stage so Alonso should have known how Ron would behave
Agreed
Even i know that under a Ron Dennis management that you'd be limited in lots of ways.
I think that in his current, more reasoned and mature state of mind, he'd get on fine at McLaren now.
Of course, this could bring him down to earth with a bump too! Presumably there's the implication he knew this was going on and was complicit in it. There have to be consequences to that. This goes beyond any fiasco he caused at McLaren with his "win at all costs" attitude.
Also Alonso got into the whole spy scandal thing when he really had no need to say anything whatsoever. Maybe his plan was to earn the favor of a certain italian team?
he was not the only one with that attitude in that team :-)
You think he went to McLaren to unearth a spy scandal to help his future team?
I think thats a tad toooo far ;)
...whcih leads me to his involvement in the Singapore issue. You'd think he'd have known better considering how damaging even a tiny bit of insider info could be when it comes to this kind of behavior. Even text messages are potential weapons in this environment and FA would remember that
There is one possibility that no-one has considered. We ar all assuming Martin Whitmarsh said Alonso had signed for Ferraribecause he knew it to be true. It may be that he has signed Alonso and was just winding up Ferrari. Now there is an interesting possibility.
I can't see him wanting to go up against Hamilton again though.
He may not have known....
I'm by no means trying to suggest he was completely responsible for what went on that year. Similarly, I don't think you could say he was entirely innocent. He behaved like a spoilt brat, but I did think he'd grown up since then.
Live thread open
No BUT he got involved for no apparent reason. He would know how easy it is to blow something like this open, and how little it actually takes to get the job done, and would probably balk at PK having anything even close to insider information on team manuevers like throwing away a race (and about a million dollars in parts and time, no less)
I think we're gonna move to the new show thread now :)
and again, he was not the only one in that team :-)
sure I agree, he was not entirely innocent, all I am saying is that I do not see 2007 McLaren situation as black and white. at the same time I can't wait to see how would Ferrari manage him unless they plan to pair him not with Massa or Kimi but with Mr BAD :-)
To finish this thought, before moving over...well, again this is all speculation and we havent the slightest inkiling how deep these decisions could go.
We had this president that INSISTED he didn't know about certain things going on over here and, well...this whole things seems pretty similar to American politics and politics in general.
I guess the best thing to do is look at the money trail somehow.
i think you need to lay off the conspiracy pills ;)
Depending on any massively breaking news stories, we are probably not doing a live show next week.
However, we are thinking about watching a racing-related film and maybe live commenting it together. Top of the list at the moment is Talladega Nights (available to rent on iTunes). People will need their own copies. We'll all sync and start at the same time, and comment away. What do you think?
That is an interesting idea
I actually own that film on DVD, so I'm up for that!
ooh i like :)
Love it! I haven't seen it either, I got the DVD very cheap ages ago and never got around to watching it.
the only issue might be, uk films tend to run 5 frames per second faster than us version, so by the end of the film we might a minute or so out.
If we end the film only a minute out, I will be very impressed :)
Dank just posted this pic on twitter
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1316591
oooo nice idea! i'd be up for that... however... you'd need to give me plenty of notice... it takes ages for me to download stuff...
Christine and Alex couldn't manage an episode of Friends without phone calls and toilet breaks interrupting. A dozen people on here at the same time would probably mean the fil would last 4 hours
Harsh but fair.
in that case i'm in.
I'll blog about it later :)
yay :D
Sounds good! I have that film :)
Someone posted that in the comments earlier
Did they? Missed that, sorry!
Not a problem.
Right, I'm off for a bit. See ya later!
see ya later :)
Bye Chris and anyone else leaving
see ya chris. happy sidepodversary.
ciao
Lou, how did you find out when your first comment was? I know what mine was, but not when
I can find this out for you.
ah :) thank you. i can tell you what it is if thats helpful
You ask Mr C or Christine I suppose. Ifthey can find peoples forst comment they should be able to tell when I assune
erm cause i knew what it was, and that it must have been around the Hungarian GP that year, which was in August... so i searched the August threads about the Hungarian GP :)
Is this it?
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/04/26/live-commenting-spain-qualifying/#comment-65930
Lou is lucky to have arrived when there were only about six comments per thread :)
sure is :)
thannnk you
ehehe :P
But if you did Grand Prix, you would see awesome footage of old F1 tracks like Spa in its glory days, Legends of F1 in there prime and knock off one the movies off your recommended to watch movies.... And mind boogling PASSING at a silly place called Monaco!
That means that i've only been here a year and a few months. It feels ALOT longer than that
Sidepodtimewarp?
Just sidepodtime ;)
see i've been here over two years and it seems to have flown by... i wonder if mr c is really a time lord?... lol
I find it odd because i listened to the podcasts from alot earlier on, so it was ages before i actually commented. Seems wierd to think that now
Would explain how he can knock off both Paul and Ringo.... :P
:D
That would explain why none of us know Ringo Starr is dead and he does
it all makes sense now...
Because it hasn't happened yet. Hmm, that's quite plausible.
Should we warn Ringo that an invisible, anonymous time traveller is going to kill him somehow, sometime by an unknown method so that he can take precautions
Memo: Sidepodcast Panda Cosworth F1 Racing
To: Alinora, Chief of R & D.
From: Jordna Allen, #27 Race Engineer
Subject: Background Check, mr C.
Alinora, has one of the TARDIS from Sidepodcast Panda Cosworth gone missing gone missing again, and, eh, how did we manage to pick up one of those things in the first place, anyway?
We really need to check the C. V. background of that Chief Illumination Officer guy more closely....
J. Allen
Did I miss something or is hitting someone from behind now the other person's fault?
wassup?
oops!
The Grosjean quote?
is this about Grosjean?
Yes. I thought he hit Button, not the other way around.
He did
....
:D :D
i missed it. what he say?
That he was going well until he got hit by button
what??
he blamed Jenson for the crash... apparently Jenson hit him... :(
he lies! :(
now you know why i don't like him much anymore ;) :cries:
I found Jensons reaction but cant find Grosjeans quote
It's true, sort of. Just watched the replay and Grosjean hit Button, sending him into a spin. Button's car then runs backwards into Grosjean, knocking him into the barriers.

To: J. Allen, #27 Race Engineer
From: A. La Canta, Head of R&D
Date: August 30 2009
Reference: BC/MC01
We originally picked the TARDISes up as part of a deal with the BBC. Last I checked, the TARDISes, they were all back at base.
I will refer your request for a background check on Mr C to Human Resources, which should have the necessary clearance to conduct said check.
From the Renault quotes:
Romain Grosjean - DNF: "I made a very good start, moving up to thirteenth place and I was keeping a good pace but then Button took me out at turn five and it was the end for me. It's frustrating because I would have loved to finish the race and learn more about the car on this very special track. Hopefully I can do better in Monza."

:D :P
you can see from Jenson's on board footage that he was hit..

Standard F1 driver fluff, Lou. The guy behind is always going to blame in front for not looking in the mirrors, the guy in front is always going to blame behind for being to optmistic....
ahahahehehehohoho
:)
oh by the way, Mr C I need that DeLorean when you've finished with it. I know you're just about set off on your 3-month trip around musical landmarks of the last 40 years, could you drop it at mine when you're done, say in half an hour?
never.gonna.live.this.down
why can't more drivers be like Vettel and admit their mistakes... ;)
*punches the air*
Awwwwww, poor mr c.
I just hope Muse don't pull out of any big gigs anytime coming up and I asked on here if you may know why, is all. :P
You can't kill a Beatle and expect people to forget it
it was really really funny though...
just watched it myself, the man has a point.
Button is the one who made Grosjean retire, but Mr Renault gave him a clout so its his fault too
I Ringo's sidepodmurder was as deliberate as Piquet's Singapore crash so that no-one would remember that Missing Montagny with Bourdais still in the team is beating Longitudinal Inertia
from the renault blog. check out the damage on this car after turn one
is that even drivable?
you know what they say... an eye for an eye... a DNF for a DNF... :P
whats wrong with it? apart from the wheel
front wing. front left floor.
bit of a broken front wing
:P
is that a piece of bodywork attached to Alonso's front left wheel spinner thing?...
So the said Chief Illuminination Officer did not come from the BBC with the said TARDISes as part of a package deal? Interesting.
Please transfer my previous memo to the care of Human Resources, then. Thank you.
J. Allen
ah yes, it would still be 'drivable' just not fast, at all
Oo-er, thats freaky... as I posted that, they announced a huge French gig on their website...
*shivers*

"Indulge me for a moment as I point out that I really enjoy DC's company."
Madness.
if they pull out of the devon ones...i'll cry
yup. looks like a force india.
THAT PICTURE IS TERRIFYING
awww :)
ICANTHEARYOULALA
He drove it for quite a while after. So clearly he wasn't having many problems.
Has anyone seen the Force India tshirts for sale yet. Ive got one but I think it’s last years. There new stuff is all Reebok. {Comment #245}
The 2009 Force India stuff is due to turn up in November, or so the shopkeeper at my local branch of the F1 Shop tells me. This has made getting prizes for the Force Fans Online predictions competition a little... ..tricky.
Bot not EJ's ?
wow.
James! Did you want to know your first comment?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/grosfail-jpg
#sorrylou
although I hope you'll agree with it :P
Erm sure. Unless its really bad.
You have to ask?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dcvswendolineteeth-jpg

hehehe :D
teeettthh
I shall look.
Awsome first comment:

"why was Heikki’s head cut off in the video? xD"
Haha I like that.
Mr C killed Heikki?
back from dinner. What did I miss?
Heikki died?
Don't tell Amy
Mr C killed Heikki and Ringo Star
#sorryamy
We're gonna need a list.
Pictures came and broke your heart.
Oh-a-a-a oh...
wiki?
I knoew about Ringo. Someone stop that man! We should put out a photo so that people can know what he looks li...wait...we may have a problem here
:D :D :D
I think she will notice
thank you christine. I will make my page soon :)
At this rate I am going to need a bullet proof vest
Mr C killed Ringo Star
Heikki aswell, it broke Amy's heart
When she found out it broke her heart
When she found out it broke her heart
not necessarily... Lukeh is awesome at photoshop...
Oh-a-a-a-oh
Oh-a-a-a-oh
i think im going to need to make this into a song
hahaha DC has one of those... so he will be safe :)
"Why does he wearing the exact same stuff as he did last year? And why are the sponsors out of date?"
urrrrrm...
Not only that, but mr. C uses a DeLorean to time travel to conduct his sidepodcastmurders ! (The Sidepodcast Panda TARDIS where proven to be secured....)
I’d like to read eddie jordan, just for laughs. does he publish anything or does writing require too much initial thought? {Comment #406}
He used to write a column for F1 Racing (between mid-2005 and mid-2007). He's also written an autobiography.
hehehe
So is he going to photoshop the rest of the season?
hello guys. got a couple of streams out of the even
ing.
I'm at Bassano level inebriation :)
have a good night all
SB
Video killed the radio star
But Mr c killed Ringo Starr
I'm working on a deal with Bernie to artifically photoshop the races from 2011 onwards.
i'm sure he'd be up for the challenge ;)
:D
ahaha XD
How often is he going to be on the top step?
Also, are you going to 'shop Kimi as his teammate?
All I can say is Rubens to race till he's 60.
If he does will that mean Barrichello will be the drivers champion:)
can you protect Jenson from any attacks by Mr C? lol :P
Sure! I'll flip a coin to decide each year between Jenson and Rubens for champion as well to 'shop in. Perhaps Franck too if either decides they're gonna take a 'being awesome break'. Heck, by 3 or 4 years I'd be more hated than Max for making the sport too predictable :P
You know, maybe I accused the wrong co-host of being "Carlos"... Sorry. Panda.....
and there comes FIA saying – “Told ya so, here is the good old Cossie …” {Comment #504}
...that's also embarrassingly slow and looks like getting the FIA into a huge amount of trouble!
Could it be slower than Luca B?
I'm writing a song and its Lukeh's fault
Steven might file a complaint. Taking Blame is part of Steven's Job Descrption around here....
#blamesteventoo
There is so much blame around here I am thinking of appointing a couple of assistants. My one man operation is not up to taking the blame for the murder of multiple major celebrities.
You have to sing it and put it on the drop!
If it helps, I get the blame for punching them!
I shall :)
Things really get serious here on Sunday nights. I was going to ask what I missed, but now I'm not sure I want to know. ;-)
if it were me i'd blame Mr Grosjean...
See now THAT you can #blamelukeh
:P
well, turns out Mr C killed Hekki and Ringo Starr...it's a long story!
that's cause there were witnesses :P
It must be. Makes for a long day reading comments at work I imagine.
Does that mean that you side with lukeh?
there may or may not be a replay video available on the homepage. it may or may not contain unfounded rumours about a legendary drummer.
Bot not EJ’s ? {Comment #649}
He already admitted enjoying EJ's company in this month's F1 Racing. It's not news any more...
Now I am intrigued.
Stupid no internet video at work.
:D Remember that when asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world, John Lennon said "he's not even the best drummer in the Beatles"
if you remember.. i was actually running away at the time it happened... i just turned round when you called me and both you and John were looking at me so i walked over quickly, heard Mr Button say something about me having the camera... i laughed and shrieked, then he said something else and i walked away laughing... lol i didn't see anything :P
It is almost like a game of Sidepodcast Clue. We know who did it, we are just working out the place and the murder weapon to win the game.... :D ...
Words soted, midi file found (its a classic ;) )
I shall record in the morning
we have to wait till morning! :(
Don't say that. Mr C will think you want him to kill the witnesses
Mr C in the McLaren garage with the rolled up copy of F1 Racing?
There was definitely a bit of a right hand swing from Chris in there somewhere
*hides*
I'm quite sure my parents wouldn't appreciate being woken up by me singing
"Mr C Killed Ringo Star (You are a Sidepoder)"
Pete Best thought the same
the witnesses to Chris punching John Button??? i wont allow Mr C to kill Lukeh... lol
haha :) okay then...
Uh oh.
Mr C can't kill him anyway. He'd miss his photosopping skills...
*shopping
I would photoshop 500 fake Lukehs just in case
I do not think a rolled up copy of F1 Racing can behead a person, gumshoe, remember the head of Kovi was completely removed from the shoulders like it was cropped from a video... :D .
You have a point, but then Heikki has been racing since that photo was posted.
http://twitpic.com/fwist
ehehehehe
Suppertime, here. As much as I would like to poke fun at Michael Myers, here, er I mean mr. C....
hah!!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/thomas-jpg
I have updated my childhood based on todays actions
Lol!
ehehe :D
I have to sleeep, if im awake when the new Daily comes out i turn into a Sidepodtoad, and no-one wants to see that.
I shall bid thee all goodnight
Night Jon.
I have been doing nerdy things with graphs.
night!
night Jon! :)
:D
:D
:P
*cough*
ha :-)
The smiley face gives me a resounding sense of hope
i knew it!
I don't care if you post it early, I'm resolutely staying here until midnight.
That is allowed.
