Hey guys. Hope you enjoyed the Grand Prix and that you are having a great week. I certainly enjoyed the Grand Prix and I think there were many interesting things coming out of it.
I know you have probably read about the Grand Prix already, but have you seen it in Crayola? Or seen F1 stars Photoshopped as Star Wars characters? Have you also checked out Bruno Mantovani’s excellent Williams and HRT cartoons? :D
Have you listened to the Debrief yet? Checked Tweets of the Week? What about Christine’s Rankings? After that, have you checked out other F1 podcasts?
Guys, Amy needs your help – she’s the world’s biggest Heikki and Team Lotus fan and she wants to win a trip to the Korean Grand Prix. All you have to do is ‘Like’ the picture she posted on Facebook. Read more here and DO IT if you haven’t already – and if you have, pester your off/online friends to do so!
Apparently Kimi Raikkonen is going to supplement his WRC season by racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series – that’s like the 3rd Division of NASCAR where Piquet Jr. races. No, I have no idea why either. But now we will probably see this interview for real ;)
Remember how Jenson Button drove a McLaren F1 car around Bathurst last week? Well here is the lap in full HD-goodness!
Lukeh and Lou went to Mercedes Benz World and wrote an excellent post about it! I would love to see the Brooklands banking. Leigh wrote a post about GT1’s at Yas Marina, PatW found a great online Sportscar Magazine and has posted his TMRG Scores for the week. RG wonders how biased the BBC were in their F1 coverage and Christine likes Desert Island Discs.
Speaking of Sportscars, one of the bigger teams has a blog post about the massive fail in the Sebring coverage. Too right I say!
Finally a couple of video game posts for you: the first is about where video game bad guys come from (hint: non-English speaking countries!) and the second is a chronicle of classic arcade game deaths – which pretty much sums up my childhood video game library!
Well that’s all from me – have a great day and see you in the comments!
Hiya Wednesday :)
hello Wednesday.
The "two-guys-and-a-cooler-with-a-handicam network" in Risi's criticism of Sebring's coverage made me laugh a lot :D
Thought you'd like that!
is this daily early? where did yesterday go?
:)
I read that post a little bit ago, very good points in there.
Cripes! I really have no idea!
That onboard lap at Bathurst is insane. If that's a lap taking it easy, I really can't see where he'd make up time save for gear ratios.
Dunno. Yesterday was a bit of a 'Salmon Day' for me!
Love the online sportscar magazine.
They just positioned the camera well and recorded the wind noise to make it sound faster than it was. The camera is mounted low and to the left so it looks like he is really attacking those kerbs on the left handers. It's a bit of a con like that French underground movie Rendezvous. Button was a second faster than someone who had never sat in an F1 car ever and hadn't sat in a single seater of any kind in about a decade. For him that is slow. There was only one point in the whole thing where you heard any tyre noise and that was a very marginal lock up.
Yeah I'm not sure how fast he went but if you are comparing to the complete con that is rendezvous then I suppose he wasn't pushing it.
Still awesome footage though and a miracle that an F1 car can run on a track like that.
I imagine they had to raise the ride height to cope with the mountain section. You couldn't take a car set for something as flat as a Tilkedrome and send it round Bathust
Indeed.
Oooh nice secret :)
Yay! Lukeh is the winner!
a wha?
Their site is here - http://lendurance.tumblr.com/
and this is the back catalogue - http://lenduranceissues.tumblr.com/
I started reading two issues ago. Twitter @lendurancelive. It is done by @JakeYorath who may have been noticed tweeting during sportscar and other races.
Good point.. but it was still the fastest lap ever recorded and it is still very fast.
bugger!
Salmon Day: "The experience of spending an entire day swimming upstream only to get **** and die in the end."
the secret takes me to something i can't see. stupid work internet.
Awesome photo!
Boo. You'll have to wait until later then!
:)
Well it wasn't that dramatic, but you get the point ;)
Great picture
only 7 hours til hometime :)
Fast for the track but not for the car or driver.
or not ;)
Looks like RG's post is getting a stack of comments and the occasional moron
Oh dear.
There's constructive criticism then there's just stupidity, sadly :(
ooh nice :)
#sidepodspace
This is a sad update. They are tearing Discovery apart to get at all the bits they could never get at normally to see how well they have survived its working life. Seems amazing to me that there are bits they can't get at easily. It's not as if Alex Issigonis designed it.
http://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts133/110327retire/
i'm quite liking the holly samos / pat symonds podcast. #confession
Ooh - you really disliked him on the Motorsport podcast ;)
fanvision ruuuuuuules. I might have withdrawals between Malaysia and Singapore
no. i really disliked EVERYONE ELSE on the motorsport podcast!!
I don't get it. :(
Homepage
:D :D :D
Could you have given him a clue first? ;)
- i disliked them for not asking proper questions
- i disliked them for not letting him speak
- i disliked them for carrying on their own conversation
- i disliked the noisy room they recorded it in
i really liked pat :)
It's a page on the site. Near the front
it's the last place you'll look ;)
Yeah they hid behind some legal stuff on that one, got taken to task in the comments and then did a Benson
Too many people in the podcast perhaps?
Yeah I hate that - they have taken to recording outside of that office now.
I did too, except he doesn't think we should be reducing aero grip to increase overtaking...
Which is the whole point why we all keep hiding Easter eggs there - so people look ;)
he's got some pretty good insight into this one. amy can you download the podcasts on fanvision?
agreed. love em.
so long as people know that isn't the only place the text appears :)
It's true! :D such is the power of realtime. And dashboard too.
You can have that many people if you have discipline and are used to doing podcasts. Starting off with that many is asking for trouble. The reason sidepodchats work is that most of the people on it started on podcasts with smaller numbers and there is a clear structure and authority figure.
yup
OK, I'll give it a try then. Good job the office is quiet this week!
espn also have a new one, not listened yet though.
saw that. who's on it?
Oh it's their football guy.
no-one i've ever heard of.
bob hasn't improved: http://www.fanvision.com/media/podcasts/F1Trackside/Media/2011_003_Australia_Final.mp3
rubenscast is better: http://www.attwilliams.com/multimedia/podcast/238
I just made my first attempt to get some Malaysian currency and it was an epic fail. Waiting til payday would have helped :D
Ah.
mobile 1 - the grid is on c4 now if anyone is around. also in hd.
currently at windshear with nascar teams.
only 45 minutes til lunch! i'm so excited by the kfc double i might cry.
There are a few corners where he could definitely have gone faster, such as turn 2(?) after the long straight, and the run up the hill through the bend after into the left hander.
The thing is it was only a demonstration run anyway, so he was never going to go too fast. It would have been a disaster if he had damaged the car. He gave it a good go though.
I had an unsettled night last night....
It all started when a text from a friend saying "Now I'll have someone to go to NASCAR with" pinged on my trusty iPhone....
On waking this morning I realised:-
1. Unusually Kimi had featured in my dreams (no it doesn't happen that often, honestly, and he was going into space!!!!!)....
2. The NASCAR thing could be real and all I can say is...
NOOOOO.......
Glad you feel that way, TBH.
I think Kimi and NASCAR are oil and water.... and I can't see it lasting long....
PS I totally blame McLaren.....
Ooh how come?
Who doesn't?
On another note, Lady Snowcat, have you seen Amy's post? :)
After Ferrari Kimi only wanted to go to Macca and it honestly would have made my day to see him back....
That's just my view and I know many wouldn't agree..... but I really struggle to get past it.... probably because I am an F1 girl and think the Kimster belongs in F1.....
As I said yesterday, when it comes to sponsors, F1's a walk in the park compared to NASCAR.
You aren't the only one, it seems...
Hmm I agree. He has to learn to pepper his sentences with sponsor's words...
They couldn't come to terms at the end of 09, remember?
I certainly did and tried to help BUT I have totally forgotten my facebook password as I created the account years ago and never used it!!!.....
This might be the best spoof twitter account you see all day: http://twitter.com/#!/BronxZoosCobra
right.
You can always reset the password - do you still have access to the backup email address?
Can he advertise Vodka?....
Yes I do....
I have to use another computer to do so (don't ask) so I'll try to remember to do that later today....
Very well. We'll ask you again the next time you're here. :D
Purrfect....
The best time is in the evenings when I am chilled (unless I get news like last nights that is)....
It will be amazing!
That's true - hopefully amazingly good though...
If he does it I will be brave and certainly go to a race or two....
Watkins Glen would be good....
I'd recommend Watkins Glen (East Coast), Indianapolis (Central), Infineon/Sonoma (West Coast).
Many thanks... I'll look out for those although my friend says the trucks don't go to all venues....
Just found a tweet from Jake H about how live viewers of the Oz GP have doubled since 2008....
Silly boy has forgotten that 2008 was the last race whre "Live" was a lot earlier as it wasn't a late afternoon start.....
I'd be surprised if they didn't go to Indy - but I'm not sure about Infineon.
Thanks Journeyer that's a great call as I never did get to Indy to see the F1....
I would expect he would be bumped up to sprint car for the road cources
Now that would be interesting....
Mm. Like Ambrose, Montoya, Said & others...
hi everyone
hi Leigh. You sorted yourself out a facebook yet? #cheeky
not yet - barely had time to have tea (but i will eventually)
:)
:D
In the meantime, I finished writing this at 6am
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/03/29/2011-indycar-race-of-st-petersburg-rd-1/
today I randomly started thinking maybe I'd like an iPad.
That's very not like me :(
Saw some badly edited official highlights of that from YouTube last night. Not sure what to make of it...
Just got this in the e-mail. Idiots.
The idea is, if it's on YouTube, people will not buy it - kind of ignores the fact that people only know off it because of YouTube.
#Facepalm
IndyCar's online presence over the weekend was nothing short of incompetent
Yup. I think they are the same highlights attached to the article?
Yep.
Their qualifying highlights stretched to a two-and-a-half minute cut down of the final stint.
commented.
Watch other people upload pirated copies of it...
A few people have bought it, but it's not a success because of quality. Watch this sink like a stone now.
Idiots. The Entertainment industry just have no idea.
It's the same thing with the Senna movie - you guys do know that you can now download copies of the DVD, right?
So it leaves a difficult choice - watch it now with no English subtitles or try and see it in the UK if it's still on in July...
Oh good :D
theres an English version available for download too, but I'm going to wait til it comes out here, it's been confirmed it'll be in Australia in July.
there's an English version available? Interesting... Is it at the usual site, Amy?
Ah but it's the GMM version - the subtitles are taken from Portuguese and google translated ;)
indeed
that I did not know :)
replied
I've seen the film about online, but am going to wait for the cinema.
Assuming it's at the cinemas, people will watch it there if only to see and hear an F1 car in a cinema.
It was in one of the comments.
got it - still wasn't there last time. will look again.
To be honest, it's one of the few films I want to see on a big screen. I'm going to see 2001 next week on a big screen and it'll work as a nice lead-in
:)
Seems like Natalie Pinkham has a funny nickname: http://twitter.com/#!/sampinkham/status/53002934383951872
hehe
Have you guys heard about this Tesla vs. Top Gear thing? http://jalopnik.com/#!5786995/tesla-sues-top-gear-over-rigged-electric-car-test
Not that I am surprised they made an electric car look bad. Really gone off Top Gear lately!
no, but not shocked - never really got top gear outside the Star in a Reasonably Priced car bit. Clarkson's just too iriitating
Oh and this pic of a Tesla is from Copenhagen: http://www.teslamotors.com/roadster/gallery/view/6311
I pass by the showroom every day on my bike!
so has Australia as a whole!
http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-news/top-gear-ratings-plummet-20110330-1cfsq.html
Not surprised if that's how they show it. We get similar here with it being on 3Plus all the time.
Morning lovelies.
Aye - that reads like a TV station issue as opposed to a programme problem
morning christine
a hoy
Good Morning!
Morning everyone :)
hi alex,
what goes on?
Um... I don't know... Working... I have just remembered that today is my Daily Post day
May I send you a link later on tonight if you are about, young sir?
You can certainly try... I don't know at what point I'll be writing it. I haven't thought about it at all yet :)
oh my goodness me,

scary|!!
no facebook (sorry)
just a pic of photographers standing on a rather scary looking scaffolding..
heheh theres a LOT like that around melbourne
do we have to shoo you until you get one? just for 10 days?
Just get one and leave it dormant?
i see
OK OK, but I'm in work right now, so i'll investigate tonight
Morning all
morning lukeh
:D
Just got your comment - what really annoys me about Marco is he still blames everyone else regardless of the facts.
Apparently it's one of the reasons Franchitti left Andretti-Green in 2007
That's because he's royalty.
He left at exactly the right time IMO.
I realized last night how tough it is to win an ebay auction when you are in the wrong timezone ...
I wonder if Tony is off to london for the court case?
http://tmi.me/8ga12
I am amazed how little we have heard about it given all the hype at the start and at coverage of the previous hearing
Good. I'm still not bothered by it ;)
The less I hear about it the better
Beeb about their outage: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2011/03/bbc_online_outage_on_tuesday_2.html
I wonder if they were attacked at all?
They mention on the news article for the outage that there was nothing to suggest it was an attack or anything
The 2nd part sounds like a DNS server problem, i dont think you can attack them? not sure
Mmm hmm.
Karun says the indian track has widened overtaken areas: http://twitter.com/#!/karunchandhok/statuses/53047984161685504
His Dad is in charge so maybe he has been able to have some input?
I wonder if everyone read Christine's blog post and downloaded 200 episodes of Desert Island Discs at the same time ;)
You can attack anything
i wrote about this last month (with pictures) - several drivers have been consulted at multiple times during the design and building process
:)
Could be. Clearly I have as many readers as Digg :)
The Christine Effect :)
"The BBC said that, at this stage, there was no indication that the failure had been caused by such an attack."
just incompetence then :)
I dunno, I just think there may be too many people keen on having a go at the BBC right now,
Agreed.
So the BBC website went down for hour. So what - go make some tea and read a good book (or kindle)
:)
Or write the daily post ;)
I guess it's only a problem if you planned to sit down and watch the iPlayer.
I wonder if they tried turning it off and then turning it back on again :)
It's important because it's a massive and really quite important site worldwide.
you could read some tea?
I wonder if it included the podcast feeds?
Hehe.
speaking of, I would like Kindle suggestions if anyone has read anything good lately to take on my flight to Malaysia :)
In a #MFC way?
my bet is the window server said "critical updates are being installed 0% of 100%, step 1 of 7."
:)
I don't have any but I saw (via @glinner on twitter) a great thread for a bad review for a self-published kindle novel. The author was criticised for mistakes & grammar and she angrily accused the reviewer of not reviewing the emergency copy she sent him after he downloaded it previously.
Anyway, the argument went back and forth until the author told everyone to Eff Off. Twice.
There's an app for that?
I was just reading that, such an embarrasing self destruction!
oh dear!
you can read tea leafs
didn't see that - seems quite silly
It did make me laugh!
Have you guys seen this? Blue Peter was filmed yesterday with a 360 degree camera and you watch watch the whole thing with it.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/bluepeter/games/360tv.shtml
Quite a cool little thing!
I love it!
If only there was a book available on the Kindle book store where the author never swore on the internet?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Missing-First-Page/dp/B004A14RX6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=digital-text&qid=1301485385&sr=8-2
oh thank god its not another format for me to buy! :D
Is it this one? Even Stephen Fry is on it: http://twitter.com/stephenfry/status/53051458454695936
Bingo.
#blametweetdeck
that author is an idiot
Really bad writer too. I know very little about grammar and prose etc. but even I can see it's not of a publishable standard!
So, did she actually hire a proof reader.........?
I think, maybe, not
I don't know what happened by I suddenly had a spike of sales in January... I sold 11 copies!
FYI I don't get any money from Amazon until I sell around 200 copies but it's still interesting.
As an aside, I had a very similar incident with an irate artist last year when I reviewed a single that was sent to me.
People like that really are annoying.
Indeed. There was also some suggestion in the thread that people from other publishing houses may read that blog too!
More on the Top Gear Vs. Tesla thing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/12907367
Congratulations!
Was it plugging? Do you have a Shirt that says "Ask me about my Book"?
January sales? People with Kindles for Xmas looking for that perfect book?
Author with a curious name?
People with Kindles unconcerned with first pages? :)
It's really funny... Almost nobody has really thick skin and criticism goes with the creative terratory... But that said most artists (and this is a very broad definition which includes people who write blog posts for example - maybe creative people is a better word) should be ready for criticism and the best artists actually love it.
Nobody likes people being mean, nobody likes it when somebody sticks the boot in, but most good artists are so critical of themselves that constructive comments from others are the best thing they can hear. It shows that the reader / viewer cares and wants to work with you to improve things.
Unfortunately being sick has derailed the process but I wrote a four part story for gamboling which I was going to put a fifth post talking about the decisions I made to get there, because I've found people are wary of writing right on the bottom of a story what they think of it. I actually want people to comment and criticise... it really worked well when some people did that the other month: http://gamboling.co.uk/2011/02/13/editing-while-airborne/
And the main reason that I haven't posted this new story yet is that Katherine, who reads everything before it is posted, came up with some great advice that I need to put in before it is published. The story had a problem with it, and I couldn't see it by myself. That doesn't make me a worse writer, that makes me a better writer (in my opinion).
It's only when writers think they don't need editing that they truly have lost their way.
I don't... Maybe I should :)
:)
The hard thing about criticism is you have to find the balance between knowing you can't please everyone and knowing when there really is a problem.
I played a gig about six years ago and afterwards I put the review - which ripped me apart - was on the front page of my website for the next couple of years
Yes, that's really true, and a really hard thing to balance.
You can't write by commitee. As Michael Chabon says in the wonderful wonderful Wonder Boys (watch the film if you haven't it's great), "writers make choices".
And some criticisim is of the type, "i wish the characters did something different" well tough, they aren't your characters, but some of the criticism is constructive... You have to be quite strong mentally to deal with it, and to decide.
You can easily be paralised by doubt after receiving criticism.
That's bold. Do you still produce music and can we hear it?
Bits and pieces, but everything I officially released is up for free on LastFM. Mainly instrumental electronica/film music if you're into that sort of thing
http://www.last.fm/music/LPX/+albums
Oooh ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/spanish-wednesday-30th-march-2011
Just reading through some of the comments in that author / book review shindig - love this comment.
Absolutely spot on
Hehehehe, this Mercedes advert is pretty funny. :)
I want to make an animated loop of Mika doing his pointy fingers then watch it forever.
Good afternoon
I haz Jaffa Cakes :D
I do believe the Romans would've stayed at home if they'd had Jaffa Cakes
Maybe that's what they were searching for
one day I need to try these things of which you all speak. I'm sure you can buy them here.
Which reminds me, I found Irn Bru the other day and it reminded me that Steven Roy wanted me to try it, but it was in a 1.5L bottle and I was scared of buying that much. I just wanted a one person serving!
You can keep it in the fridge and have it in smaller doses. It's really eorth it
Amy, sent my friends the links to your competition and slowly but surely their liking it :D told you we'll get you to Korea! ;)
Mrs. Goat reckons it tastes like Rusty Water. I love it!
In fact, if you have it with Jaffa Cakes, you could have an Orange Wednesday :D
I may have to take a trip back to Coles. The Irn Bru was on the same shelf as tins of mushy peas, I believe it was the British section :D
<3
just take as many photos as you can :)
That would upset many Scots
I'm sure! I was mostly disappointed there was no NZ food there, the Coles international section seems to differ between every single branch of the supermarket.
I looked up some other uses.. fishing apparently is the only one (not sure if its only scottish fish though) http://scottishtea.com/fisherman-uses-irn-bru/
Ouch
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90340
woaaah i've been on twitter for 3 years? O.O
Another team with a barrage of excuses.
Blimey!
No idea how long I;'ve been there... how did you find out?
someone tweeted me this link
http://twbirthday.com/f1_lou/
also.. according to them.. my godfather is Mr C.. huh?..
Hahaha I just noticed that :)
Apparently mine is Muse. Ooooooooh dear.
I can imagine him with a tommy gun! :)
Mine is Sidepodcast
18 january 2009
Mine was grandprix.com, i guess its the first person you follow?
ahh, could be. Seems that way anyways.
Snap
Really?
Bit of a coincidence!
http://twbirthday.com/twiger/
Reminds me of that advert with Lewis and Alonso with Mika at the end.
hold on...
Dear German speaking Kathis/people
In Timo's latest video he says something about Heikki about 6.30 in! In German! I want to know what hes saying #help
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G-fFlyLvWY
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/australia-2011-rate-the-race
Watched from 6:00 onwards, no Heikki? *watches again*
Sorry if this has been posted, helmets are now safer with a strip on the visor http://www.formula1.com/news/features/2011/3/11880.html
Amy... Especially for you... You might need Chrome though: http://aaserver.co.uk/random/mika/
:D:D
That is all kinds of creepy! :)
If that was behind the opening credits to a movie I think I would be really scared as to what was about to happen
I might use it as a background to punctuate when i make a good joke in the office :D
Ping: http://www.f1minute.com/news/sauber-decide-against-australia-disqualification-appeal
did you make that? you must put it on youtube.
I did... I will... The only problem is that I couldn't work out a good way to make it repeat on YouTube
loop it in imovie, repeat 30 times, upload.
Ah yes... I guess that would work
waste of bandwidth, but it's google's bandwidth, so meh :)
oooh somehow its 1am again and my post still isn't finished :(
tomorrow, I promise, if its not here in 24 hours you all have permission to unlike my photo :)
oh now i'll never sleep *stares*
still no heikki :(
he definitely says 'kovalainen' in there somewhere!
oops :)
now that I've muted it I can stare even longer, that music was starting to get creepy!
hm can you add time stamp to the url? #t=xmxxs
Oooh do you remember that Lotus Animation I made? Go Animate (who I used) are now endorsed by YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/create_detail/GoAnimate
ooh listening to it again I think it was just some fast sounding run together German words that my brain turned into Heikki talk #oops
#überFan
umlaut!
umlautFan?
:)
Really works well looped in the video (good idea Mr C) and looks good in HD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuzDKDuFp78
That's the Mika thing
a. maz. ing.
Can she please hire me to proofread her next book? I'm good value for money!
after swearing at the reviewer and other commenter's, it's probably too late for her save face with a proofreader
Whoops! Evidently not someone who understands how reviewing works or what to do with it.
Maybe she can't save face that way, but it would give me a decent income for a couple of weeks ;)
always a plus
:D
Not interested until an official version comes out on an actual disc.
And that it was on ITV back then. And that we didn't have any British world champions on the grid at that point...
♥
Phew - for a second I thought that said "The Milka Thing"...
What would she doing giving Schuey and Rosberg a Red Bull?
Jake's blog: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jakehumphrey/2011/03/can_i_start_by_saying.html
Just for Mr C:
Australia was particularly busy, with my random moment of the weekend being former Westlife member Brian McFadden having a beer with Beppe Di Marco from EastEnders while Leo Sayer and Danny Cipriani wandered past...That's F1 for you!
Mr C.... I have an odd thing going on which has actually been going on since you moved server but it's not been important thus far...
When I make a post on Sidepodcast it doesn't give me the chance to add an extract anymore... All I can do it make a post. The Left hand colum of the post page seems to all be there as does the right column, but in the middle column I only seem to have title and the main post content...
Is it something I've done wrong? The logging in seems different so that might be it?
ps. I have tried different machines and browsers and it's not that.
No Excerpt bit at all? Not even closed up?
Not as far as I can tell...
Weird. And how is logging in different?
Ah... I've just worked it out... It's in the screen options at the top they seem to have been deselected. Weird... they are back now :)
True, but plenty will be. At this rate I may have to :(
Did he write that on an iPad? ;)
Um... When I go to the address it pops up a login box which doesn't seem to work... if I go to the address with no https just http it shows me an in page login box (which looks like the ususal wordpress one) and then when I log in with that it redirects me to the https site...
Huh. Definitely Mr C territory.
I'm taking on the world at the moment... http://northernwaffler.wordpress.com/about-the-waffler/#comment-420
Hi people.
points?
Given how things work, I may end up DLing the movie for now. I really have no guarantees it will screen here. But I will still buy a DVD - because I think the movie is THAT good, and they deserve my support. And I'll watch it again, and again, and again...
My sentiments exactly.
Good to hear! :) It means our DVD deal is still on too. :D
Hi RG
I suppose they are technically in the right
Oh yeah - din't let me forget that dude!
I reckon if you say, "as tweeted by Heikki Kovalainen", then you could have a better case - because he did tweet it. But recommended is a bit too vague for lawyers' tastes.
I'm not letting you forget it - ever. :D
Nick has left me to go and watch some cricket. Hmmmm...
Good. Because I will, even though I fully intend to honour it!
I'm going to Trini Andy's on Saturday to watch the final!
Yeah, I fully understand it. I think it seems like the right time to change it in any case.
CROFTY IS A LEGEND! http://www.twitvid.com/SZJAI
Motor Sport are now doing video podcast thingies: http://www.motorsportmagazine.co.uk/2011/03/30/video-the-week-in-motor-sport-30032011/
I've finally found a way to cook fried eggs with a runny yolk and a properly cooked white. Happy Bassano
Erm put egg in pan, take it out?
I've gone off runny eggs TBH.
The white always ends up too runny. It could be cos I use spray oil instead of loads of butter or alternative
Low to medium heat, let the white start to firm up and add a spoonfull of water and cover. Cooks the top nicely
Separate the egg and put the yolk in later
Goodness me this is all very complicated... Tbh I prefer poaching eggs.
delia thought me how to cook the perfect fried egg :)
Very hot oil, turn pan down when you put the egg in and move the pan around a bit as it cooks.
Break egg, leave in pan, take out when done. It's an egg for Pete's sake"
Exactly!!! :D
I can't resist any longer!! I'm going for Dominos.
Evening all
Curry time!

I love Joe's reply ti the comments on his Kimi to NASCAR story:
Kimi needs to learn to say “My Seven Up Skoda was real good today” if he wants to make it over there.
No, you're both wrong :D
Hi Pat
But I think Joe is putting too much trust in the son. If he works in the same office as his father...
Trucks do not go to IMS, they go to another track in Indy.
They don't? Very disappointing.
Hello all, no more work now until Tuesday :)
Mountain of ironing to get through before I can start sorting out my packing. Really looking forward to getting on the train to start my journey tomorrow because then if I've forgotten something, there's nothing I can do about it.
Hey Janna
There's not much you can forget and need whilst away for 3 days :)
Passport, bank card, keys to your house, clean underwear. Sorted.
Perfect
Though I would add coat/jacket looking at the weather forcast
I know this intellectually but it doesn't stop me double, double checking all of those things ;)
I love Mika.
And great work :)
Fair play. Clearly it's good to pack some other things but you're not going to die if that's all you have.
Neither does Nationwide. Both go to IRP/ORP instead, always have.
I like @Chainbear's thinking:
if this movie is real, you have to have a sidepodmeetup to go and watch it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joI-uU86NXw
apart from stealing the title from leo, that was better than i expected.
clearly THE BEST WEEKLY F1 VIDEO ROUNDUP video :)
that's just weird. howdy y'all.
Yeah, that's probably why I like the look of it
Also has the potential to be really baaaad
Hey Scott
it's playing near Boston about a month from yesterday. Guess you'll just have to come back?
It's a real film
:)
Yup, general release next week
Oh Mr C, I've noticed this for a while but keep forgetting to say anything. When people link things like youtube etc that used to pop up in a box in the window, nothing happens when I click them.
I need to right click and choose to open in a new tab.
which browser?
Chrome.
Hahaaa, odd French film-makers with their weird horror films
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen....
yeah, youtube changed their api and i'm not touching realtime to match them. same with twitpic. i'd recommend anything than realtime to be honest. just gotta find time to rewrite it.
I'm (i) not Mr C (ii) also having the same issue with Chrome. not really noticed that I default right click anyway to preserve tabs. so the youtube one below doesn't go direct if i left click but the motorsport one does. ???
Fair enough, no big issue. As long as you know :)
It's been like that for a little while now :(
Ah, that would explain it
Noooooooooooooooooooo :D
:D I really like the Olde comments. If the quoting worked sensibly I'd use it all the time!
I understand. I try to keep up with another company and they keep changing things. Very annoying.
I'd probably use the dashboard but I coment from the iPad mostly these days
click to quote? yeah the comment box fills up with all sorts of crap when that's enabled, just from general clicking on the page. needs more thought.
I think the next iteration of commenting solution should be called F5, in honour of your beginnings :)
hehehe
I love realtime. It's the only way to keep up with comments on a number of threads.
:D
I can imagine....
Homepage can too.
Fixed
But yeah, me too
Not as good.
Blimey. Tell us how you really feel.
on a technical level, much better.
It's not a negative. I just prefer realtime as I can comment from there and it is more squishable if I want to shove it to one edge of my screen while I do something else. I can also hold comments until I am ready to read them.
Saying "not as good" is definitely a negative.
Explanation is much better.
On a human level not so much. Either I need to get myself upgraded or use realtime
Not for me. I've now got it open and the last comment is this one I'm quoting here, comments since then have not appeared so it isn't live.
Sorry it was Christine's next comment not htat one.
You made two things and I prefer one of them so think of it as a positive about realtime rather than a negative about the homepage
interesting, tis okay here.
:D
Realtime may be clunky from Sidepodcast's point of view but for a 'power user' there's nothing to beat it in my eyes for regular use
steven roy 2.0
That would certainly out-borg Amy :D
I think we feed him Irn Bru until he mutates :)
Put it on your list
If that was going to happen it would have happened along time ago
Agreed, the only time that's not true is when two popular discussions are occuring in different threads. If one of those is a live commenting session I'd have that in Dashboard anyway and the Daily as it's own post, otherwise I just get lost. Different pages for different uses.
Heads up folks!!
This is a fun experiment. I have both realtime and homepage open in Chrome. Sometimes the comment appears in realtime and then I get the pop up (still one of my favourite things), sometimes the homepage pop up is faster. I'm eating my dinner & watching so it's not something I am doing to distract the browser.
I like realtime but the pop ups allow me to have more than one thread open & still see what's going on. I find this especially good when FBFB is working.
I think the biggest problem is that Christine & Mr C have made the site so fantabulous that we've got used to being spoilt.
I use a mixture of the solutions every day, including realtime, it's just good to point out there are other ways to comment too.
If there is a live event I use the dashboard. Otherwise I have realtime open and set for commenting on the daily thread and open and close other individual threads as necessaryon other tabs.
Totally agree! And we always have so much to talk about....I still remember the olden days when we racked up 1000 comments in a whole race weekend (?)
Completely. Steven and I just prefer realtime I guess
Similar to me. I try to make a point of not using the Realtime dropdown selector and using posts themselves, especially when two or more posts are 'active' with discussions over a day, as down that road errors lie. Sometimes it is just faster though.
Yep!
It's for real then, and much much sooner than I expected.
That's Charlotte. Heck of a place to make your debut.
Oh yes!!
I kinda think there's something in the talk that Kimi's only crossing the pond to be able to enter the $5m race
He's definitely highly motivated by money, or the quest for it at least
When he gets paid he seems to slack off a bit :D
He expressed interest, but hasn't committed as of yet.
He has to prove he can beat Piquet first ;)
Not sure Adam Cooper is too impressed with some of the drivers
There were folk talking during it too :(
13th show and it's scarbs' third appearance: http://smibs.tv/live
#justsayin
I got the impression from TV that a lot of them didn't know it had started. When the gunshot type signal was given for the end of the minute a lot of people were looking at each other as if they had no idea what was going on.
Amy posted a comment saying the whole thing was disorganised and fans either didn't know what was going on or just talked through it
Is that just a British thing? It's funny that it's the British drivers without them on...
Perhaps it's just that Scarbs is fabbo.
They also had a Force India engineer for the first half of the show who'd never been on it before.
he needs a jingle :)
It didn't seem well organised at all
When did this start, 7?
They all take caps off for national anthems and I am sure in the past they have done it for silences. Fortunately we have not had many recently
I'm trying to get a real onboard video of Charlotte but people have flooded YouTube with iRacing videos
6pm
I am so far behind
Wah? :(
Windsor still hasn't improved much
Yeah I just thought that actually. I remember people making a scene of Vettel dropping his on the floor.
I find Windsor inconsequential. The guests tend to be rather good though.
I like Mr C's response :D
hehehehehe
I hate that gamers upload videos like it is real. Some of them seem to think they are Lewis Hamilton or whoever. First video I found of Jenson at Bathurst was a gamer and the video title was Jenson Button F1 car at Bathurst. There should be a rule that video titles have to start with I am playing at being .....
Windsor's saying that James Key has been released from Sauber!!
Wha'???
WIndsor: James Key has just been dropped by Sauber!?!
Didn't have the secret. :(
Absolutely
Just spotted a tweet from Another F1podcast saying Sauber have fired James Key. They used more words than that but best to leave them out.
Surely they wouldn't fire him?
Fired? Released? What's the difference?
No difference!!
I assume he is responsible for the wing problem but presumably he is also responsible for their car being faster than it has been in years
True
I hadn't seen the other comments when I posted that.
I don't agree with a world where you're sacked for making one mistake.
They can't be that stupid to drop him for that though. To my mind it was either a manufacturing error, or they were pushing to see what they could get through scrutineering as teams have done for all time.
5mm is a huge manufacturing error
Agreed, especially at those tolerances
Can't find any mention of this story in a news search
do we trust what he says though? he once claimed his factory was making an f1 car.
:D
2010 Truck Series at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Charlotte, NC
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQVBpD1yeXI&feature=related
Didn't know it was 5mm.
ba dum tisch
haven't seen it appear yet either
i really should stop emailing peter exclusive news when he's live on air.
#badmrc
:D
Bad Mr C!!
;)
Where's GMM when you need them?
I can't remember where I read it but the radius of the upper surface of the wing is meant to be not less than 100mm and it apparently was 95
What on earth?!
R1 big weekend in Carlisle?? Crazy times!!
Does anyone know anything about postage? I have an A4 envelope to send but don't have a large letter stamp. 2 normal first class stamps would cover the postage right?
If it's not thick and filled to the brim, yes it'll be fine
You what?
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?mediaId=50800722&catId=400029 First Class is 41p up to 100g. Large letter is 66p up to 100g so should be fine
Still a rumour
When drivers talk sense
Hard to argue with that
You can completely understand his frustration though
Absolutely. He is clearly right that it is stupid
Windsor knows about brilliant F1 engineers?
he should know, he's fired a few ;)
Titanium is a lot heavier than carbon fibre
Size for size
And probably has to be thicker to take the same load
Not sure about that, Titanium is incredibly strong
I was thinking about if it had complex shaping and not just a flat sheet. So more distortion loads than normal tension/compression
Possibly, titanium is very stiff
Surely once it's bent, so much of its strength is just gone though.
Ooooh thanks Janna :)
They won't bend it. They will mill the shape they want out of a solid lump
Oh I see yeah. Hadn't really thought about that, must use such a huge volume of material.
As Steven siad. Plus some metals are heat treated after shaping which changes their hardness properties
Or they'll use a i or L section and weld to the sheets
Seemed to have been done in a hurry and the carbon fibre process would take a few days minimum
Must remind Alia that Force India's Race Engineer is at the beginning of TFL
There is a lot of wastage but the performance of the finished part is so much better
Yes I see that. It'd be almost useless otherwise tbh :D
A few more bits like this and you can add mechanical engineering to your degree
Hahahaha!!
I could completely work in F1 with what I'm going to do anyways :P
But just think how much easier it would be if you were a genius engineer
Hehehe I would not make a good engineer.
it wasnt 5mm out though, 5mm is the reference to the angle on the curve described though its radius.
*wow, did i really just write that?
Same principle here: http://www.apple.com/uk/macbookpro/#video
Wow - we've been Spocked!!
Radius
I said that
evening guys, I has been reminiscing on some classic tv shows with a PING http://toata.wordpress.com/2011/03/30/173-what-happened-mr-tv/
Hi Lukeh
what i meant was, it isnt as if the part was 5mm too long which would be a huge error, it was an angle which is still a mistake but not quite so big
I disagree. It is just as bad
Radius is more fundamental. Unless there was distortion during the race, I fail to see how this could've happened, especially as someof the other wings were supposedly ok
I'm still thinking this profile changed during the race
I didn't even consider that as a possibility.
I dont think so, if i showed you 2 pices of paper with a a 10 cm curve which had a 5mm radius difference i dont think you would be able to see the difference,
if i showed you 2 pices of paper with a 10cm curve with a 5mm difference in length i think you could see a difference
Recognising it is very different from making it that wrong
Why?
Was this irregualrity across the whole plane of the wing or in certain/one part
What if the actuator caused distortion? It's not likely but it's not impossible
Not really the same as precision engineering though
My point was their is a difference in the scope of things between 5mm in length and radius differential of a curve
But the radius is determined through the design, mold and manufacturing processes. If something is too long, it can be trimmed
I just assumed it was such a big error that it had to be made that way. Then Sauber didn't appeal which tends to suggest they know they made it that way.
No idea
That is the only way it could happen during the race.
I should say you know way more about this stuff than me
It means the design was wrong and not checked properly, The mould was made wrong and not checked and the finished parts were made and not checked. That is unbelievably sloppy for anything remotely close to precision engineering
Carbon fibre does have a fair amount of elasticity until it breaks so I'm not so sure this was the issue but I find it easier to believe than a design cock-up
The designing and manufacturing process making such an error is a huge stretch but if it was caused during the race I think they would have been more inclined to appeal
Agreed. I quite like the show myself and Scarbs is always worth a listen.
Me and Mrs Goat just watched the two F1 documentaries that the BBC had on over the weekend - we both quite liked them too.
James Key fired eh?
I'd like to hear more, but it's rather a harsh call!
Loved the 60th anniversary one just to see all the names and famous faces from f1's history and whilst the killer years was good it was incredibly hard to watch.
Still not showing up in a news search
Bunch o' lies.
I watched the first one and there were a lot of drivers who appeared on screen who they did not name which means a lot of people won't recognise them.
Haven't watched the second one yet
Is he on twitter?
Good thing if that's the case
He's probably not in the mood to vote for Amy just yet
:D
Ping -->
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/03/30/gp3-pre-season-testing-silverstone-march-29th/
Twitter is knackered anyway
Yeah it was rather sad - especially the Roger Williamson scene at the end.
Colin Chapman didn't come out of that documentary looking too good either.
Down for you too I take it?
In all fairness, CC never had a rep for safe cars
I need to watch it then although I can think of a few things that could create that impression
You do need to watch it Steven. It's right up your alley.
True, but it was underlined very heavily in this documentary.
thought Jochen Rindt's wife's thoughts were incredibly intriguing on the whole deal with Colin Chapman and his cars,
JYS had the chance to go to Lotus or BRM for his F1 debut season. He was told if he wanted a fast car go to Lotus but if he wanted to live go to BRM
I am yet to read Tremayne's book on him but I am looking forward to it more now.
Not sure I have ever heard Nina Rindt speak
She's lovely.
I have seen her
She really says a lot without actually saying much at all in the documentary about her feelings on Jochen's death.
I meant she's very well spoken too. Like Lukeh said, she managed to say a lot without using too many words.
Wouldn't the FIA just say the parts should have been fit for purpose. They need to be in a state to pass scrutineering at the end of the race.
The tendency is not to appeal though because if it is upheld, the punishment is magnified.
Which would clearly be true. I might let them off if they'd been in an accident.
He knew what he was getting into and it is why he went there. He had been around F1 and built a reputation but hadn't won much. So he went to Lotus knowing they were fast but fragile.
The only driver who went to Lotus with the right idea was Andretti who had the mechanics change anything he didn't like the look of.
Sure but teams have appealed in the past that the parts were right to start with and that something had happened during the race to change it
Steven, you need to see this documentary. He may have known what he was getting into but he was also pressured into racing a car he didn't want to in order to seal the championship at Monza.
Honestly what happened to the cars though.... Nothing.
Unless they're claiming Force India had both their drivers hanging off them in the paddock to bend them....
That is where Andretti was smarter. Clark died because Chapman forced him to drop out of a sportscar race at Brands Hatch in Alan Mann's Ford F3L(may not be the right designation). Clark had agreed to do that race but had not received a letter confirming the drive so gave in to Chapman
Don't forget this is on the part of the wing that is moved so they could argue that the actuator caused it
That would bend it the other way.
I don't follow. What has Clark and a sportscar race have to do with Andretti?
Clark like Rindt let Chapman push him around. Andretti didn't. He knew exactly what Chapman was like so he built a relationship with his mechanics so that they would tell him what Chapman had changed on the car or if there was something they thought was not 100% right and he would go and fight with Chapman.
There is a documentary around somewhere about one of the anniversaries of him winning the championship and they interview his mechanics etc.
Good on him.
Exactly
Andretti was always hard on owners like that - always a mechanic-first person
Perfect cover :D
Well it's your life on the line!
:D
The implication from this documentary suggests that drivers in the old days were not allowed to worry about that and were forced to choose between driving or not-
Yes, but there were also a number of drivers that had a "screw it" mentality
When JYS started his safety campaign he was called chicken and told that if he couldn't stand the heat he should quit. And a lot of people saying that were other drivers.
Motor racing was seen as dangerous so the idea of a driver complaining about danger was seen as ridiculous as they knew it was dangerous
and broke gpodder. Stupid youtube.
just spoke to manipe, i'm already much smarter just for listening. podcast should be out tomorrow.
bah!
Sounds good
Onslow-Cole completes first Golf test - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90342
they make you pass a test these days?
Just started the documentary and and they are doing the von Trips crash. By sheer co-incidence I was reading an old MotorSPort earlier and they mentioned that the British teams boycotted Monza in 1960 because the baking was too dangerous. Next year vonTrips died in a Ferrari and then the banking wasn't used any more
The British also boycotted in 1957 for the Race of Two Worlds
One point on the Rindt crash I should have mentioned is that he contributed to the extent of his injuries through his own stupidity. He refused to wear crotch straps so when the front of his car was chopped of and it went into a tight spin he submarined and had his throat cut by the seat belts.
Had he been more sensible he may have lost his feet but he would probably have lived.
I didn't make that connection but you are right
Oh he has fixed it already for the coming release. Awesome gpodder.
What about the Armco being attached loosely?
An olllllld piece I wrote on the banking
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2009/09/13/the-banks-of-monza/
There were all sorts of contributing factors like the inboard brakes etc. But Rindt contributed to the extent of his own injuries through sheer stupidity
not forgetting the dropping of the rear wings
Hmm but you don't call others who took the same risks and perished stupid though? What's the difference?
By old, I mean pre-Sidepodcast by quite a distance too.
I didn't not call them stupid either
;)
I don't think stupid is the right word here.
He had had a full 6 point harness with crotch straps and refused to wear the crotch straps. I have read some quotes about his comments as to why he did not wear them and they are not repeatable here.
I am not saying he was totally to blame or that somehow he could have avoided the crash. Simply that he had the equipment to reduce the severity of his injuries and didn't do it
Mind boggling fearlessness?
If you had the choice of getting in a car with a crash helmet and you didn't wear it how would you describe that?
I think it was more arrogance.
The one thing I will concede is that it is different looking at it now than then and we must never just look at the past through modern eyes. However this is 4 years after JYS started his safety campaign and Rindt was his mate so he knew better than not use safety equipment
Just reached the bit about Stewart's Spa crash. Every other driver mentioned who went off before him eventually died in a racing car
Maybe he had not trust in it?
Or maybe he was afraid of being trapped in the car.
I think these guys accepted the risks and placed less value on human life than we do. It's too easy to look back now and call them stupid.
That is certainly possible.Especially with the fire risk
I think you can apply that to their overall outlook.
I don't know. It really depends. Lots of safety equipment is available for a lot of things we all do and we don't always use it for a wide variety of reasons. Not always stupidity.
I just watched the safety one. Really well made.
60th anniversary one shortly.
Not for something as dangerous as racing
Remember when Dale Earnhardt described the HANS device as a useless toilet lid...
I think I mentioned to Turkey Machine the other day that the Roger Williamson footage should be required viewing for all motorsport fans. Perhaps the drivers should be reminded too.
First half of the documentary has far too much emphasis on Lotus. A lot of people died in all sorts of cars and they skipped very quickly from 1961 to 1968
hey all, if any of you have a spare 5 mins could you check out my flatmate's film from last semester?
http://vimeo.com/21699696
It should be a part of the ARDS test.
I recommend it to everyone! It's very nicely done.
I liked it, do you know what the music is?
will ask him :)
Was well made, congrats to your flatmate
Was wondering this but I thought it may be an iMovie thing or just stock music. Really relaxing though.
"Window" by The Album Leaf
I can't find him atm.. which is ridiculous as our flat really isn't that big, will pass on the artist once i find him. :) He's very good at film, they're doing an old black and white silent film atm, that should be awesome to see too! :) My other flatmate is very good at film too, need to get him on vimeo :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqXPrylWkBE
Yay!
ohh!! The Album Leaf are very good, very like Sigur Ros. Joe introduced me to them ages ago and i listen to them loads. :) very relaxing.
Shazam is a wonderful app
ooooh.
to Spotify!!
Heheh, apparently there's a new NASCAR team called Inception Motorsports. The Twitter jokes have already started.... It'll be a team within a team, within a team..
:D
i mentioned them to you agggess ago when you were asking for music recommendations..
Ohh.. sorry :(
#lukehfail
Boyfriends! They never listen ;)
tell me about it! ;)
From the Album 'In A Safe Place'
I listen! Honest!
I just forget.
I can't even remember what they're called now *scrolls back down again*
same.
Nicely saved
Don't you start! :D
#sameperson :)
i did give you a long list.. lol
:D
i swear women think our brains our infinite or something. there's recent stuff at the front and then all the other stuff for use in trivial pursuit at the back. anything else gets ditched.
Sometimes you don't listen, but we've been together long enough that I can tell and I just stop talking mid-sentence.
They have loads! About 6 albums or so :D
oooh cheesecake!
*points at mr c*
he said it lou, not me.
#coward
Great subject for video. Great to see students doing something about someone who worked at Bletchley Park.
The video is well shot.
I would love to know the remit they were given that ended up with that video. That is not a criticism
New things and Trivial Pursuit answers. That about sums it up really
To be fair it is really exciting when you get a whole cheesecake in trivual pirsuit so mr c has a point :)
Tht's my plane music sorted
hehehe if i'd have been speaking to him or there i probably would have done the same too.
As long as people continue to ask me why go-karts don't have seat-belts, ignorance has to be considered a possibility for why certain features that should be used aren't. How long did it take to convince the drivers that HANS was a good idea?
Everyone seems to think everyone else's brain but theirs is infinite, if the way people verbally communicate when I'm in the vicinity is any sample...
Memory tip: Everything is a potential Trivial Pursuit answer...
Complete the Douglas Adams book title - Life, the Universe and...?
henry the eighth?
:D hehe!
I have watched the whole documentary and it confuses me. I really don't get the point of it beyond saying it was dangerous then and not so much now. There was no flow to it. von Trips Monza 61, Stewart Spa 66, Clark Hockenheim 68, Rindt Monza 70, a quick bit on Stewart and the GPDA vs the world then Roger Williamson at Zandvoort in 73.
It gets across the attitude at the time and nothing does that more than David Purley's frustration about being unable to save Williamson as the race carried on. But there was no real flow or story behind it.
There was also way too much focus on Lotus. Just as many of not more drivers died in Ferraris but anyone with no knowledge of the history would think Chapman was the only team owner doing things that severely compromised driver safety.
The version I read about Jochen Rindt's accident was that he had used the belt but not tightened that particular one sufficiently (or even close to sufficiently), meaning it was about as much use as if he hadn't used it at all. Not sure whether the version I read or the version I heard is true though...
Oooh I really want to play Trivial Pursuit now.
42
An Assortment of General Stuff That In Sum Has No Item Outside Its Radius
:D
Is this about Sauber again?
It would be more accurate to say this is about Ronspeak.
Mr C and I played the iPod version one night when we couldn't sleep. I do believe I lost. Several times.
I have heard it said that way to but it really isn't possible to use the crotch straps and not have them tight unless they are too long in the first place.
Everything is about Ronspeak ;)
I'm worried I'll lose against myself if I play the iPod one. I don;t think I could handle the humiliation.
Hehehehe.
On the plus side you're guaranteed cheesecake.
It wasn't mentioned in the article I read whether the belt was the right length or not.
Hi folks
I have to finish packing, but wanted to say hi. I've been so swamped lately that I haven't been able to chat.
Heya Kai. Looking forward to Sidepodboston?
Hello
I have to start packing... soon
Yeah! I can't wait to get on the train tomorrow and all the things I have to do before that will be DONE.
I liked my Italian class tonight - I got 3 glasses of free orange juice* and was allowed to do nothing for twenty minutes because I'd already done one of the assessments. Apparently I've somehow done next week's assignments as well, leading to the ominous "We'll have a discussion..."
* - there'd been a conference earlier and about half a bottle of juice needed using up.
Hi! Hope things are going well.
:)
I wish I had a garment bag, but I have to cram everything into a little bag. Oh well. I really hate ironing though.
christine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/5575434074/
What's that? Like a suit holder?
They will. Intense weather unites people. I'm about to watch the forecast in a few minutes to see if it's going to be snow or rain.
Yay! Excellent photo :)
Yeah, so stuff doesn't get all crushed. I don't have a lot, I just don't want it all rumpled. Oh well.
Pingle: http://mrschristine.com/2011/03/30/tennis-girl/
Normally the anti-submarine straps to use a technical name end in a loop and the shoulder belt is fed through the loop then the shoulder belt clips into the buckle. So either they are fitted correctly or not at all. Now there may have been some earlier design I am unaware of so it may have been possible to have them slack but there is really no point in having them slack. May as well not have them at all
Hello.
Do you have your passport and stuff all organised?
i was saving it for something, but forgot what, and then almost deleted it when formatting my machine. now it's safe on flickr :)
Trivial Pirsuit appears to be broken, it keeps saying I'm getting the question wrong.
:)
*bounces*
yay for international meetups.
:D
It is VERY exciting! I can't believe you guys are coming all the way here to see me and Scott. Do you think people who lurk online will also go and lurk at us in Boston? How would we ever know?
will you do the countdown before every drink?
Finally! I've wanted a rescue for a while now. Will you bring a great job with you? Thanks!
We'll see the frustration on their face when WiFi goes down
Spies?
Maybe if they hide behind a table and pop up with one single comment the entire evening
We'll keep our eyes peeled.
I might need to buy iMovie, you're giving me ideas
:)
#rankings Force India admits it was lucky at the weekend.
check the new Vimeo app first
bAlthough if you are lurking now don;t do this! Go and say hello to lovely Kai and Bassano and Scott and everyone.
In fact, say hello to us now if you're lurking! :)
for the iphone? do it. the new version fixes a lot of the originals flaws.
Ooh, I got that today. Thanks Andy

YEAH!
See the problem with the iTunes Trivial Pursuit is that you can't take other people's wedges out of their cheesecake. The developers don't know this game well enough clearly.
iPod, even.
Have you tried the Vimeo one? iMovie won't work on my 3GS, I think the Vimeo one will and it's free. Downloading now.
Yay!
Do you always make sure you are the banker when playing Monopoly sso you can pinch extra cash?
You also can't change the question if everyone in the game knows the person being asked will find the question an insult to their intelligence (as was standard practise in our household any time any quiz game asked us anything F1-related - too many F1 fans in the house!)
I would never resort to such methods!
...i distract everyone first. ;)
didn't know there was one, does it do editing?
Weather report:
Nor'easter storm
Winter storm watch
Potential for up to a foot of snow, but won't be that bc of rain mixing in.
Friday morning starting - snow or rain and snow
*fingers in ears*
La la la la la la la la la
Yes. Just about to try it
Yup, just tried. It's new
cool!
It's going to be fun no matter what, and the snow will make it an adventure. I don't think we'll be walking the Freedom Trail, though. But by Sunday it will be sunny and warm and it will melt. Spring storms do that.
Doesn't look as intuitive as the iMovie screenshots I've seen but's it's passable and free
Accuweather saying gusty with rain. No snow
Good drinking weather anyway :D
It will depend on exactly how the storm tracks up the coast, and they stink at predicting stuff. I'd much rather have snow than rain.
Heaviest snow Friday morning.
They say 3-6", but they have no idea, really. It could just rain.
It matters not, we'll all be together!
50 and sunny on Saturday and Sunday! Awesome!
Has anyone checked the Sutton Images blog? Their photo-compilation YouTube video for the Australian G.P. has been blocked due to copyright infringements. One would think that having a Press Pass, which one would image Sutton has, would allow you to publish photos... Assuming the entire content of the video is Sutton property?
Pah!
We may have a confused complainant (even if it's FOM, "confused complainant" is still possible).
We could have a small pizza.
I like this plan. Ironing finished, packing in the morning, and so to bed. Really looking forward to tomorrow :).
Me too, Janna! I can't wait to meet you!
See you at 1
G'night Janna
god lord, they're still imagers with a ken burns effect and sutton have the rights to do what they like with it anyhow.
Woohoo! A 8 question streak and everything.
I like this game.
FF4: Take two clicks to get to your links, I just like to Paste & Go :D
I've just remembered - if Christine doesn't have enough to listen to already. I recommend the Mitch Benn Podcast, mainly because there are a couple of panda related comic songs scattered amongst them. :D
I still think that the "effect" is attributed to the wrong Ken.
I'm such an idiot. I've given myself a ridiculous amount of work to do tonight.
If you don't do it will you get in trouble with yourself?
OK Vimeo edit report - based on a couple of minutes playing - looks promising, but I can't seem to use anything I had already recorded. It lets me choose "video library" but then displays nothing.
That happened to me too, there's another way of accessing your files. Can't remember at the mo and phone is synching
Hehehe well I'm really behind with my OU stuff. I posted something today that was due last Wednesday (I had agreed a week's extension that expired today) and I have another deadline next week. Tomorrow late opening is the only chance I have to print the relevant computer parts before the deadline so I have to get it all done before I go to work tomorrow...
So erm not that great all round :P
Off to finish packing. See you guys tomorrow, and see some of you in person!!! :)
G'night Kai
Bye kai
Best of luck!
Goodnight!
You need another printing solution. Library?
In fact, I'm gonna start now before I decide it can wait till the morning
Back soon
That's where I do print things. Sadly I'm at work while it's open 90% of the time they're open until 8 on Thursdays.
It's my own silly fault, no 2 ways about it.
I spend too much time at work is probably the long and the short of it.
Looking for some SDC help.... I am looking for the a video where the Japanese commentators yell CRASHUUUU. I think of a Formula Nippon race, possibly at Suzuka, with Takagi and Pedro de la Rosa.
Go figure entering "crash", "takagi" and "de la rosa" brings back many many hits from our "G" named overlord.
This one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNaifByO3Ko
LOL YES! Many thanks!
You're welcome. F1 Rejects to the rescue!
That's hilarious!
The request comes from a Digg posting relating to "Ya Heard? The 10 Craziest Foreign Language Sports Calls" The other 10, half of which are football (association football for the F1R-ers here)) The 10 put together dont't match up to this one!
Thanks again!
