Just a couple of days of March left, we are on to Tuesday, and the week is well underway. Apparently it is Eddie Jordan's birthday today. We can only assume that he invented the birthday and therefore can celebrate however he wants. My guess is it involves unwrapping some more pink shoes, but who knows. Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- The latest F1 Debrief is available to listen to now and covers such a diverse range of topics as Mother's Day celebrations, out wide wing mirrors, and the drivers having control of the future of F1. I recommend listening, mostly because we have lots of lovely voicemails again.
- It was also a bumper day on Christine's Rankings with loads of drivers moving around the list. There was some frustration yesterday with other rankings that are available, and although I know I can't please everyone with my choices, at least you know where you stand with me!
- Apparently the organisers of the Australian GP are okay with their race being second on the calendar, because they are more than happy with the late start compromise. They have seen big TV boosts. They would see even more boosts if they started late and were the first race of the year, though, wouldn't they?
That'll do it for now. I had a terrible day yesterday, but it ended well, so I'm hoping for Tuesday to start as Monday left off. I will see you in the comments.
hey tuesday, have some bruno: http://mantovani.zip.net/arch2010-03-01_2010-03-31.html#2010_03-29_20_37_38-100063171-0
ehehehehehehehehehehehehe :D
i should probably have linked to the english version: http://mantovani.zip.net/images/gp_australia_pilotoons.jpg
that is my favourite one ever.
links to an English version :) http://mantovani.zip.net/images/gp_australia_pilotoons.jpg
i think the satellite you would be "buried" in is on a decaying orbit, so it eventually re-enters the atmosphere and burns up :)
I like the Bruno Senna one underneath :)
yeah i found the english one.. :D
hehehe mine too!!! (hearts) JB
Good Morning everyone
hi
amy. kathi?can everyone change threads please... Em has trouble trying to change between the two (i told her to press f5 and now she is stuck....) :)
hi
Hi again :)
Kathi! Hello
remember our discussion last week about threadless spc?
:( yes....
i have a question about that actually.
would it still record all of the comments somewhere? or would it be limited to a certain number? or however long your browser was open for?
Flatmate has a friend over. They are chatting in the kitchen and keep me awake :( I wish she would move out ... oh
Morning Kathi
No
really not sure. i haven't given it too much thought, i just highlighted the issue once we'd spotted it.
If you want, I could volunteer to sit and talk in your kitchen when she needs to be up in the morning
I may need a little bit of notice
basically conversation threads don't work. human nature seems to dictate that people open realtime and start typing. i do the same.
so we were bouncing around the idea that we make commenting like twitter, where everything is just a massive stream of conversation.
Apart from break-out [or topic-centric] threads?
kinda like how it used to be?
But since I couldn't sleep I have been thinking. I don't mind taking care of the second mobile home too. Since I'm in Euro-country it also makes more sense financially. If you could just take care of the recruiting and make sure they send me their contact details I can forward that to the campingsite when they need it.
oh okay..
i would guess that you'd have threads for f1 topics, and then an endless conversation stream for off-topic stuff.
don't really know. mostly we just put our hands up and said "this isn't working, what could we do?"
ah ok, so breakouts and then a daily that never ends
I have been seriously considering this option, as has Pat I think
Gavin may have already opted for it
I have a friend over as well. She is sleeping without problems. Can you wake her too? It's not really fair she gets to sleep
not really. just basically like twitter i would guess.
I got jumpy and couldn't wait any more so I've opted for it also. Kathi made a Wiki page.
But we're would it stop? Would a new thread be generated from 6am onwards?
yes, that's a good analogy. but like i said, no concrete plans.
Interesting...
no. just a never ending stream. you press "more to go back".
there is a wiki page: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Accomodation
If you don't mind, that'd be great. I would have offered but I don't have any money and I don't have a Euro account..
Does that not mean one large database to store or search?
Ahha!
I shall check that out
Thanks
ooooo that's very kinda kathi. I shall chat to my rents and the moment we buy tickets i'll get myself organised with the mobile home things too and email you everything you need + send money etc...
So does that mean no breakout threads? I thought they were popular with people who wanted to just discuss racing. Will you archive every 24 hours ?
There was a longish convo earlier.
we already have a massive database :)
ooooo we are talking about Spa and i've just remembered!!! Bassano!!!!
No it is fine. I was just over-thinking before.
Yeah, I guess so
If the parent folder is 1 or 1000, I guess it matters little
You don't need to Ping! me when I'm here :)
(hearts) kathi :)
breakout threads would remain, and maybe increase. live commenting threads too.
this would be for generic conversation i guess, because like today the midnight rollover between threads just gets a bit confusing.
In theory, it sounds like a good idea
oh, yes.. sorry. could you send me some details about where you're sitting to watch the race?... is it the booking reference or something? so i can book tickets close to you guys (if i manage to persuade dad that a grandstand really is the best place to get pics...)
Can do
Eau Rouge, uncovered Grandstand
Will DM the ref to ya
night everybody :)
(someone tell lou to go to sleep too we have to get up early and catch a bus apparently :P)
thank you! :)
i think the biggest issue is mobile devices, because when we get to spa it will just get silly trying to change threads. you just need a page to go to and comment, nothing more, nothing less.
but i'm not tired... and it's walking to the bus stop that will take the time ;)
Good night and don't be a bad influence tomorrow.
Night.
Go to bed. When's early?
As the Melbourne threads probably proved
Night Em
Before 3am I think
that was sort of the light bulb moment. but the midnight problem has been there since the beginning.
It's difficult to figure out the best way to tackle this as there are pros and cons to every imaginable solution
Can do
Eau Rouge, uncovered Grandstand
Will DM the ref to ya
Amy needs it too, she
forcedconvinced Pamela to come to Spa tooWas it during Earth Hour?
:D
Stay up all night. You'll be fine
Okey dokey
indeedy. and difficult to test without being annoying. i like how it is, but if can be better, we should maybe at least consider it.
:)
Though Amy should have the details already
I will re-send though
I'm being forced to turn the light off and go to sleep.. so i'll say goodnight..
night!! xx
night
See ya Lou
Night
Night Lou
I like it as it is but I can see the problems with it. Ideally you would test a few options but that is a load of work and constant confusion
Good night. Make sure you lot have a good day tomorrow
I like how it is when I'm on a computer. As you say, it is the 'on the fly' commenting by mobile that causes confusion. That and the midnight thing but the midnight thing is fairly minor IMHO.
not planning on doing anything for a while. if people keep it in mind when commenting and come with questions, like lou has just done, we might figure out a solution.
one issue i've always struggled with is the inability to comment via text message, because text knows nothing about threads. a generic list would mean you could sms a comment in.
it is for people who are regular. as em just noted. we all made the jump and effectively left her behind.
It never even occurred to me to comment via SMS..
Good point
would you want to though? surely if spc is meant to promote discussion, texting a single thing in isnt really adding anything to the conversation.
WRC this week and it runs to the Middle Eastern weekend, so Thurs to Sat. Slightly throwing my plans for my game but hm.
for people in the paddock to say: "we just met rob!"
or for trackside updates during a race: "i feel rain"
not everything needs to be two-way. last weekend showed that consuming information can create discussion too.
true i guess.
Oooh, interesting
When the time is right, is the page format up for discussion?
Having the Post at the top really bugs we, don't know about others
it did, but now it just means my default position for the doohickey is a bit lower in the window. all sorted
I'll often MMS a pic to the drop
If I could twwet-a-like to the comments, on the rare occasion I wasn't already involved in the conversation, it may be cool
More spam protection required?
yup.
the plan would be to remove the post altogether. there would be no threads, so no post to display. no daily information (although i'm guessing christine would still post updates and highlights for people to read).
nope. just threads need removing.
It did and the big posts take a short while to load up but I'm used to the layout now, as Jon says, just move it down a bit. I like having it there to refer to.
George Bush would hate Sidepodcast, it's all about evolving! :)
heheh!
But if folk could just text in?
you've lost me?
As do I.
I just wish it were collapsable
New LCLT has spoilt us
Would you not be spammed if the comments could be added via SMS?
but that would defeat the point. the reason it's there is because nobody read it and blindly opened the realtime page and started typing.
so we're suggesting, remove the post content and let people just type.
no
I think people would still do it though, instead of a in a live thread for example.
Fair enough
for reference. sidepodcast spam stats:
172,704 spams caught
that's since the middle of 2009 i think. we're pretty good at handling spam :)
still do what?
Sounds like it
They can't all be 'him' ;)
That's more spam than a Monty Python song
:D
I WANT YOU SPAM SYSTEM!!!
I get 2 or 3 spam comments every day. It annoys me SO much
*your
it's custom written, but we used to reply on akismet and that was pretty good. what are you using?
Type in the wrong place
Anything I sign up to register, immediately goes with my Spam email account. Works so much better that way
I thought Akismet was default on all Wordpress blogs.
Spam to email i can deal with, spam to The Feeder Series annoys me
oh i see. yeah that might till be an issue. especially in a race thread. hmmmm.
it should be. unless it's not set up correctly, it's 99% accurate.
ok...so turns out ive been a bit silly....
WP.com blogs have Askimet, WP.org....
Turns out I downloaded the Askimet plugin....just didn't activate it.
#ooops
ace. that's totally made this discussion worth it already :)
Ah :)
shhh :P
I was thinking about wine. And I was thinking about where to get wine cheaply, when it struck me. In Calais. On the drive back from Spa.
turns out it needs a key, so i probably got bored when i uploaded it :P
Security Questionsfor Olympic Tickets registration:
What is yoour best friend's name? [Which one]
Who is your favourite sportsperson? [err, dunno, depends]
What is your favourite food? [depends on my mood]
Should I tweet Seb Coe and complain? ;)
Definitely. They need to ask factual questions
All 3 questions I would give you a different answer each time.
Exactly
I believe I said Lewis for the sportman one, he's not, but its an obvious answer which hopefully id remember
Trying to find at least 3 events that I'd like to attend and are less likely to draw the biggest takers
So far, Beach Volleyball & BMX
I think I'm done
Maybe Diving
Firstly, you have to do that already? And secondly, crazy questions..
I went for Track Cycling, Road Cycling, BMX, Triathlon and Slalom Kayaking
Crofty and Ant in Malaysia already
http://twitter.com/CroftyF1/status/11241278264
its put your interest in
This is just to be considered for tickets
It's not exactly Rage Against The Machine or anything ;)
That could be fun
Does Amy know about this?
How long do you get to register?
I'll pass it on
ya. awesome sport
thanks
Dunno, I heard about it last week
I didn't expect it until late in the year at least..
I'm gonna head to bed, catch you tomorrow.
Tickets are on sale in 2011
G'night Pat
Strike while the iron's hot with Vancouver '10 still fresh in peoples minds
Steven, any thoughts on a Scottish meet-up?
I can't do anything in the foreseeable future. As soon as I can sort some other things out I will let you know.
Ok, cheers
Bassano is your car (to Spa) full now?
I hope Alison manages to sort out her travelling worries for London
I think so
Gavin, Lou, Amy [+ maybe one other]
Pat is considering driving though, I think
[This was conceived as a roadtrip]
Are you considering coming via London Kathi?
yes I know. I was just wondering. I prefer the train at the moment anyway.
That was always the plan. I got derailed a few times but I hope it will work out.
We'll work something out
This is a group effort
Imagine if Lewis had trashed a Zonda

#mfc: no bbc apps for iphone: http://www.tuaw.com/2010/03/29/bbc-iphone-apps-on-hold-maybe-forever/
Several groups have criticized the BBC for wanting to distribute the free apps, most notably competitors who believe the BBC has an unfair advantage because it is funded by taxpayers who pay a yearly license fee to fund the broadcaster.
#mfc
iphone successfully hacked.
http://www.evertiq.com/news/16538
pwn to own is very popular
If I had the skills, I'd give it a go too for a four figure laptop prize
I am heading to Bells Beach. Anyone seen Point Break? :-)
#itwasntme
Whingers
I don't hear channel 4 saying programme commisioning is unfair
Why can't the BBC app dept be self funding like BBC Worldwide?
why can't the whole of the bbc be self funding?
"Knew you wouldn't miss the 50 year wave Bodie"
is that who it was? I couldn't work out who this "mike" bloke was. Loops
:)
because there would be uproar!
hehe that's the spot
Cos then we'd have heaps more adverts and no integrity on tv
omg! i love mike. i've been reading his work for almost the same amount of time as joe.
http://www.grandprix.com/ft/ft21895.html
it would ultimately be a more fair system though.
On my 'Most Awesome' list
Not when profit is involved
stalking fail. Joe kept asking him to confirm stuff. I never knew what he looked like
would there?
if you said to everybody in the country, you'll be £120 better off next year, you think that'll spark an uproar?
You mean he is not in Amy's stalking file?
How was the Joe Evening?
people look up to the bbc, its part of our national identity (apparently), other nations look at the bbc in awe, that would likely change to an extent if it were self funded
what do we pay you for?
aparently not. I asked the whole clan if they knew who he was
BBC is more than awesome
It must not be allowed to fall
but would they be? if the bbc suddenly became self funded, i think alot of their stuff would be cut
me? I'm hopeless. I could not even recognize Crofty. need girls for this stuff
hard to say. i'm not sure the model has a place in the modern world. bbc worldwide does just fine, why would it be a massive change for the rest of the corp to follow?
I'd gladly sacrifIce Eastenders and The One Show to save the Beeb ;)
Joe evening was the best. We wouldn't let him leave. They kicked us out just before midnight.
Was the vino flowing just a little bit
[I so hope he does Spa]
I tell you what- Joe knows all the dirt :D
me too, but whos to say whats best and whats not, i dont listen to 6 music but i know alot of people do so should it be cut or not? etc
Tell me about it!
just a little
6 Music is about diverse interests, what the beeb does best
Eastenders is just common denominator tripe, everyone does that!
sorry- sworn to secrecy. You will need to go along yourself
BBC Worldwide doesn't create as much new programming though does it?
I did, London
oh, :D
It sells BBC programming [and DVD rights] worldwide
exactly, but ratings show eastenders is most popular so should 6 music therefore be cut? of course not, but if theres less money around then you're gonna get the more popular programs staying and less of the niche stuff
does the bbc anymore though. they're getting an earfull for the amount of overseas programming brought in at the moment.
I understand the ecomonomics but if Eastendersd and salaries such as the big names are repotred to [have] earnt were cut by 15%...
you know they're cutting 6 music anyhow, right?
so we still don't get the niche stuff. and we get a £120 annual bill. nice.
oh yeah but my point still stands
I didn't know that had been decided yet
The should still cancel Eastenders and The One Show for the greater good
it's still salvageable i think, but the point is, there's not a lot of niche left.
i get value for money from my licence fee in f1 alone, however, i do not think it's a fair system and i really don't think it has a place in a globalised world.
Dear UK, It's such a pleasure to experience a media channel that is advert free. Please don't let it disappear
i mess the system and iplayer it all anyway because i cant get a signal for my tv, but i would happily pay it if i needed too.
Do I like the fact that I have to buy a TV licence when all the money goes to the bbc anyway? No
Should the BBC get all the TV licence money? Probably not no,
Should ITV and C4 get a bit of it? Yes.
Quick Story; At the Bejing Olympics, the Chinese built extra 5 star hotels especially for BBC employees and a special studio etc because they valued the BBC's opinion on the games higher than anyone elses. I think the BBC and it's working is an integral part of Britain, is it flawed? Yes, but what isn't these days.
why should itv get any of it? i can't fathom why there should be a licence to view media.
do you pay an internet licence?
True, never thought of it like that.
Joe walked back to his hotel? We would have walked back with him!
No
They both have advertisement backing and Film 4 surely makes a contributing effort towards the parent company
I really wouldn't pay to support Trisha & Jeremy Kyle. Seriously
you guys are hopeless ;)
Jeremy suggested waiting around and following him. Hmmmm :-)
I'm guessing Emma wasn't there [from her tweets from Dubai]
Why should terestrial stations get money from the public? They are businesses. Let them earn their money. Why not give the TV licence to something more worthwhile than yet another TV station
Amy must have suggested it to him ;)
no he had no minders
ah-ha. now we have a benchmark. you currently fund, via your licence fee:
- cash in the attic
- bargain hunt
thoughts?
Emma is there for three months I think
My point was why do I have to buy a TV licence (which is affectively a BBC licence) if I just want to watch ITV and C4? (i dont but you get the point)
Was someone holding Amy's hair back at the time?
ah but this is the thing. i know people who like that, and who hate f1, so who's to say whats right and wrong for the bbc to be doing
Sad but true
Can I also name that which I don't fund from ITV?
I bet I win
I do :)
actually I think Amy was happy once she asked her question about Catherine
not sure i understand?
let's look at what's on right now:
- snog, marry, avoid
again. your money.
The Beeb would be so much worse if it were a 'for profit' organisation
Plus, who's watching between 9 & 3:30?
[Not the point, I know]
for you yes, but they put on stuff that gets watched, so everyones going to have a different pov
you gett all the best shows. Hope that comes on here
What's wrong with Swedish Vampire Films?
:)
The BBC is supposed to be funded by the viewers to produce public interest or high quality programs but 99% of what they do nowadays is the same me 2 genres that commercial channels all over the world produce. THey have become lazy and need a wake up call. If they are going to produce bog standard commercial programming let them raise funding themselves for it
It's not as good as it sounds
[Aussie tv isn't that great tbh]
As opposed to Loose Women
We both lose
I don't think they do produce bog standard commerical programming, yes some of the stuff is utter rubbish, but I enjoy alot of the other stuff.
My point is that you can't appeal to everyones taste 100% of the time.
i'm not saying it would be an improvement. i'm say that the net result would be a fairer system for all. adverts for return to f1 for starters.
however, looking at the bigger picture, i believe that while i may be worse off. as a country it would be for the best to abolish the fee.
we do get them
Make them become more niche!
That would be awful!!!!
Joe mentioned that a girl named emma was organising it all and i said "isnt she in dubai" and he was like "how do you know that!" haha.
it really really is. Our coverage missed the whole Vettel thing
SPC knows all!
Speaking of catherine my girl crush faded a bit when i read her latest tweet.
It's not about appealing. Antique, food, etc progs are bog standard as are soap operas. Why should we pay for Eastenders when the people who make its biggest rival have to do so on a commercial basis?
I missed the first half lap as I was watching Alonso's in-car cam trying to find R5L coverage on freeview
What a car to choose though!
agreed.
Who are you referring to?
http://twitter.com/KataHyde/status/11280236623
:D
Did you tell him Lou is tracking her
If you'd said 'Heikki's girl' I'd have known who you were referring to
I thought Alex had a duel on his hands
*shocked*
have you seen this pic btw: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/03/30/lewis-the-dckhead-and-other-stories/
Is that a 6 wheeled Brabham?
Wow
as joe points out, loving the sticker on the william's rear wing.
There never was a 6 wheeled Brabham
What was the 6 wheeled beast?
i looks like something from a michael bay movie
There were a few. Tyrrell P34 was the only one that one a race and it had 4 front wheels but both Williams and March made cars with 4 driven small rear wheels although I am not sure either of them ever made it as far as racing. I know the WIlliams has been up the Goodwood hill though
Ah you must have missed most of my comments this weekend, I was stalking her more than I was stalking him!
Oh dear. There are another 5 Only Connect walls up.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/onlyconnect/quiz/
right, i must sleep. catch ya'll later.
Not getting addicted, oh no, not me
Night Sir
Good night
night
Not great waves al Bells today. This is the first day of the Rip Curls Pro, if anyone is in to surfing
The german girl at work just told me the german word for grid girl. I dont know what she said but it sounded awesome.
Surfing comp started at 7:30am. See, that's why I like F1
I'm looking for a good podcast of the WRC. Any suggestions? I've never followed the WRC but would like to keep track of Kimi.
I don't know how good it is but try starting with WRC Official Podcast
Anyway, that's me
Till tomorrow [am expecting to be be quite bored then]
There is now talk of my temp job becoming permanent again. Make up your mind, workplace!
Yay.
My dad thinks I have run off with a racing driver. I wish.
Morning.
They found Pac Man on the moons of Saturn: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8594101.stm
hey guys and gals. on mobile doohickey and need some anti-sedative to not fall asleep.
Probably, but with the Oz GP starting at 5pm they would either need shorter season or the time change in Europe to come 2 weeks earlier ...
Morning all.
Hey dude. Nectar of the Crimson Taurine not available?
Morning. I hope you're having a better day today ;)
Me too! Bit early to tell yet, not really awake.
Is Christine doing the Castrol rankings now too? vettel went to #1 and Button dropped to #2 :-)
Vettel... what? How???
who knows. Christine's ranking makes more sense
Oh, you weren't here yesterday when we talked about it?
Basically, it's a 52-week system. Button 2009 result (win, pole) was better than his 2010 result (win, no pole), so he lost points when the 2010 AUS results replaced the 2009 ones. As for Vettel, since his 2009 and 2010 results were both DNFs, he didn't lose any points. Apparently, they were so close on points that Vettel moved to the lead.
Oh, and hello. :)
Maybe they are the castrol swearing on TV rankings
I'm gals we have experts here Journeyer. :D
and hello
For a start, my rankings don't care what happened this time last year.
...
Mostly because I can't remember.
Boxenluder?
You.Are.Joking!!!
Glad that is
Here is a great blog post from Tony Fernandes:
http://www.tonyfernandesblog.com/main.php/2010/03/30/we-can-be-champions-1
The more I see of this team, the more I want to like them...
castrol don't seem to care what happened this year!!
:D
No joke. True story.
That is insane - Button wins and Vettel overtakes him on a DNF. OK then...
Indeed. They've come a long way from being ridiculed as one of Max's puppet teams last year.
The only mistake Tony needs to avoid at this point is firing Mike Gascoyne.
As I said yesterday, the only thing saving them from further embarrassment is that no one really takes them seriously anyway...
Indeed. It's too X-Factor for my liking TBH
http://www.freeweb.hu/f1ladys/galeria/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=58
I didn't know Mrs Schumi was at Melbourne last weekend...
and she still didn't stop Michael wearing tight white pants
:D
Journeyer, have you been to the Malaysia GP?
Yup - last year, in fact. Why?
How is the access can you stay near by, and is the transport good?
Early local weather readings for this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix point towards a very wet and therefore eventful weekend at Sepang, as forecasts for country capital city Kuala Lumpur and the circuit itself indicate heavy showers for both day and night, for all days of the event.
YES!!!!
WOOHOO! Monsoon, baby! :D
I went to that race 3 times, not even once it rained (although there was a rainstorm everyday sometime in the evening :-) ) now that I stopped going there they have these rain things coming ...
Ahhh. We stayed at a hotel in KL - there's many to choose from depending on your budget. There's a special transport package that you can buy at KL Sentral that will take you from there to Sepang by train/bus/bus. KL Sentral is their central railway station and is accessible by most of their metro rails/subways.
:D I was there for last year's monsoon...
And with THAT weather, bring rain gear. :) Where will you be sitting, Paul?
ok thanks. A Melbourne-Malaysia week is very tempting
I stayed at hotel near airport, 15-20 mins cab ride to track. It is a trade off there. Track is 60 km from the city, so you have to decide what is better for you. Long commute mornings for race or long commute for the party time in the evening :-)
If there are half points, I will actually cry.
It is. It really is... :D
Indeed so. My suggestion: if it's your first time in Malaysia, stay in KL. If it isn't, stay near the airport. :)
not going this year but thinking for next year
Ooooh fudge. Now you're tempting me to do the double too, if we push through for Melbourne... :P
Will Malaysia always be after Australia? You know what Bernie's like with the calendar.
oooo knowing someone who has already been would be great
Not necessarily, but they're usually one after the other in either order due to logistics of transportation. The last time they weren't consecutive events was in 2000.
Obviously the system is stupid. I totally agree with Journeyers maths by the way what I mean is that is mad. What you should do is age the data. So the older the data is the less relevant it is. The way these things should be is that the data shouldn't drop off a cliff as it gets to 53 weeks ago. That doesn't make sense.
What you should do is... say 1 driver got 10 points this week and 8 points last week. Well this week you'd take the 10 points and times it by 52/52. And last weeks points would be 8 times 51/52. Therefore Jenson's win a year ago 10 points * 1/52 would have already not meant that much and the tiny drop wouldn't have changed things.
I'm not suggesting that this would make sense just that it would make more sense!
when I landed yesterday morning, the first hand held board I saw at the arrival gate was "transit KL" and arrow pointing to the right - I wanted to take that turn but wife did not think that was the best thing to do on early Monday morning :-)
HAHAHA! :D
That's a very good idea - adds a proper weight to the points...
it has been that way for few years. every year I am thinking about doing bothm never had the courage to go for it :-)
It's how a lot of financial systems work.
Oooh, that's a very good idea, Alex! I wouldn't be surprised if SOMEONE decides to make it their own. :)
yes, but I think one time AUS was after KL, the year of Commonwealth Games in Melbourne when Bahrain opened the season, or am I wrong ?
does that consider how much the driver tweets?
Bahrain did go first that year, but Malaysia and Melbourne were back-to-back as Rounds 2 and 3 respectively.
I think I'm going to do this for Fantasy Racers scores too ;9
Could we just drop the whole thing off a cliff?
:D
certainly, I can toss it from the great ocean road tomorrow
Give me a couple of days and I'll get it tossed out of a plane over the North Sea ;)
thats the one! She said luder is quite derogatory?
I found out today my mum emailed the sidepodcast shout out to everyone she knows to say AMY WAS ON THE BBC hahaha. She is so proud. And once more, convinced I will get a job offer from an F1 team soon.
Gavin, we were talking about Spa yesterday again and created a wiki page: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Accomodation
Could you take a look please and change yourself if necessary?
I don't get all the outrage. Clearly I have been a tennis fan for waaaay too long. I am used to people winning tournaments then being overtaken in the rankings the following Monday.
finally managed to sort out the pics from Sunday in Melbourne - Sunday Photos
HAHAHA! Perhaps you will? Lotus does have offices in Malaysia too. ;)
True, true. But that's never happened with Fed, though. ;)
the real question is, where does Heikki stay? That's where I want to stay.
Yeah I was thinking about if I should post it here because it can be used like that but if we would peep swearwords in Germany this word wouldn't get peeped. It also can be used affectionate.
why don't you ask him, he is tweeting now :-)
he never replies to me :(
He might now he knows you're his biggest fan.
But I tweeted him on Sunday after he had met me 3 times and taken my photo and even then he didn't reply :(
Hey Kathi, I'm happy to be shuffled around as I am assuming the cost would shuffle too ;)
I am ok with the tent options - my only concern is what happens if it rains? I will be bringing my own sleeping bag for sure...
Oh. Bad Heikki.
he's not allowed to lose ranking points for that though :D no one else in F1 tweets back either :D
I think he is shy, he does not know how to express himself :-)
I think chandock did on the weekend
Sorry I meant to add if it rains a lot, I hope I will not get wet in a tent.
The washrooms look lovely - much better than at Le Mans!
Heikki has to a few people too, just not to me! Rubens replies an awful lot too now that I think about it.
Noted.
I won't mention the horse.
Good thinking!
Is he the Old Spice guy now?
you will have more space than in the mobile home to hang your wet clothes. These are really more like cottages than tents.
Sounds fine then. Just shuffle me around to fit everyone else, I'm ok with that ;)
My point is that the whole idea is totally flawed. It doesn't make any sense as a concept... but even if you've decided to plow ahead regardless they haven't helped themselves by even using the standard things you would do in this situation. Madness!
Heikki must have got a billion points for finishing the race after DNFing last year. Since he also DNFed in Malaysia if he finishes this year he might be #1 soon.
STYA Ping: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/03/30/hands-that-dont-do-dishes/
OK thank you
Hehehe!
Ah you meant the tiny tent. Yes that can be quite wet if it rains :)
No probs ;)
I have booked my flights to Heathrow BTW - I will be meeting Bassano on the Wednesday before the GP, staying at his house and then driving over. I just have to buy GA tickets now :)
OK I will prefer not to do the tiny tent option, but will do so if I have to...
I emailed Pamela your email today and all the details about the stand I'm sitting in. Hoooray for super lurking!
clearly you should have been at the Melbourne GP where l'oreal had a tent full of stuff
mens stuff. :(
you have one day before the 5% promo ends.
Are you going to book a kangaroo? ;)
:D
What's the 5% Promo?
ah never mind I can't read numbers it's until end of May. 5% off of weekend tickets
Thanks for the heads up - I'll not be buying my tickets just yet as we will have expenses from London. I am assuming this deal is from the Spa website...?
Isn't that just hair?
yes http://www.spagrandprix.com/
I hope not, they put it all over my face
Hehe. Now how to convince Emma
Huh. Who knew?
Thanks Kathi. All I have to do now is buy a Bronze ticket after 20th April (Credit card charges it to the next month if I do that ;) )
I have the manly shaving moisturiser - smells OK but I can't use it in Winter because my face gets too cold!
I was also expected to know what type of skin I had. I didn't even know there were types of skin.
As an Australian man, most blokes wouldn't would they?
As far as I know, there are three types of skin = okay, a bit wet or sunburnt.
I went for normal, as I think I am normal. It hadn't been raining so a bit wet would not have worked
Hello
Hey Pat :)
maybe I'm just not modern enough ;-)
Neither am I. I hate using it - Normally Mrs. Goat is the one who rubs it on (which is actually rather nice...)
Pamela had the benefit of already being in Europe at the time so it was easy :D
that I could not understand, why would some many otherwise sane looking people want to queue up for L'Oreal Men Expert lounge tent at F1 GP ...
she's going to Spa now?!
Because it's free?
ah not that Emma. lj Emma
ohhh yes!
she decided after we dropped you off last night. It went from 'should I?' to 'can you ask the people you are staying with if they would mind?' in about 2 seconds. Reminded me of me.
OK, then I drop the "sane" from my previous sentence
I want to go to Spa now :-(
you of you or you of Mr C or Mr C of you or Mr C of Mr C??
According to my calculations. we have on free space in the big tent
I was hoping we'd all meet somewhere on Wednesday, then we could leave (reasonably) early Thursday.
it was always risky to think they were sane
me of me. Mr C is Mr C.
Sounds good to me. I arrive at Heathrow Wed Lunch and meeting Bassano when he finishes his shift.
oh dear. Too tempting
Would it help if I reminded you of the 4 days of standing around for hours to see Heikki?
see you think I didn't enjoy that ;-)
haha I did get that impression a bit!
wrong. I had a ball. :D
Must stop thinking about Spa even though Joe said to go......
Purely hypothetically, what is the closest international airport from your's?
Sydney
Good stuff. As long as I can park somewhere. I've got the day off and should (fingers crossed) have the car so if you guys need a lift anywhere from Heathrow let me know near the time. Then in the pub we can work out who's in what car and if people need picking up and if we're going direct or on a scenic route to sightsee..
That sounds good to me mate :D
:)
Sounds good to Mr C?
Are you Mr C's mate?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH HEAD EXPLODED :)
Nice. I was thinking of a cheap hotel somewhere for that night. I'd imagine there'll be a few of us about.
Hehehe. You know that isn't true, though, because we refuse to talk about Spa :)
Bassano offered for me to crash at his, so I think I am sorted. But if we are all in the same area then it makes the most sense...
Doesn't really matter. To be honest I wasn't going to think about that until July.
I went to spend my McLaren voucher today and it doesn't work. Grrr.
Email them - they're really helpful...
http://twitpic.com/1bxg0v - that is the KLIA express, and they have Chris Goodwin with them
I have, just waiting for the business hours to really start in the UK :D
I just read that as
ahhh! HRT!!! I love them so much. I want a hat.
Chris Goodwin seems confused as to which team employs him... Unless he's still Bruno Senna's driving coach as well?
read the next 2 tweets from Karun:
Just told our taxi driver we're in town transiting from Aus on way to south africa to go on a safari !
Led to a hilarious conversation about buying hunting rifles !!!
Must be fun hanging around with that Chandhok Senna bunch :-)
5 days holiday coming up over here, Fri till Tue. Why I am not on my way to Sepang ...
Hehehe! :D It's always good to have new guys in the sport.
unless they are like Petrov. What an absolute meany.
Eh?
I remember those KL taxi drivers, they are very talkative, unless you want to get a ride and pay by meter after midnight of course :-)
I don't think he signed one autograph all weekend. He ignored the crowd everytime they called for him and I'd be surprised if there is any evidence of him waving once when he was on the drivers parade.
hard to pay by meter in the daytime, never mind after midnight. :P
Oh. Boo.
as a rookie who no one knows, its really not the way to go about getting fans, when you compare it to the behaviour of Bruno and Karun especially.
Indeed. Especially when it would be very helpful for him in getting sponsorship.
He didn't make me want to buy a hat, that's for sure :D
he jas a bit of a smile on face here, but again, that may well be just a grimace as a result of riding against the wind:
http://www.f1wolf.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Drivers-parade-Petrov.jpg
this was my first GP with no merchandise purchased by me at all... totally disappointed by what was on the offer, but that we discussed already
I am buying one of those McLaren merino jerseys but only because I have a 30 pound voucher I don't want to waste, I certainly wasn't going to buy it at on-track prices.
Other than that all I bought were 3 coffee mugs to add to the collection, and I would have bought a Lotus hat/shirt if they were available.
Where'd you get the voucher?
We've also discussed already what I'm buying. ;)
I wanted to collect F1 team mugs but they all seem expensive for what it is
what they are
:)
oh god yes, the red bull and ferrari ones were $25 each. You can buy a whole dinner set for that!
they sent out vouchers to all their members who had paid for the years membership because they cancelled the racing line magazine in november.
I seem to be collecting Team shirts - Renault, Williams, McLaren and a red shirt with a Ferrari logo on it...
I had to close my eyes when I paid $50 for a red bull hat. Then Webber signed it :D
you are very strange people. :D
heheh nice. When I buy a Lotus one it will be my first non-McLaren shirt, I have 6 of those! I do like my Red Bull mug because it's huge but the Ferrari one is very normal. My issue was it came in three colours and I had to make a decision. I hate decisions.
I'd love a Lotus shirt or something Red Bull.
I tried making a Gulf T-Shirt using a transfer kit, which worked but is coming off in the wash very quickly :(
nice to see the F1 trend of checkered shorts is continuing into 2010.
http://twitpic.com/1bxnab
morning all
they know all those watches are fake right?
they may not be fakes, they may be just genuinely cheap timepieces. the proper fakes are seldom displayed openly these days :-)
MFC Ping: http://mediafuturechange.com/2010/03/30/the-bbc-and-their-enormous-website/
What's the latest on the London meetup and the train strikes BTW? Mrs. Goat has told me that she is OK with Thursday now.
If some of you are in London I am still keen to meet you BTW...
still like to do it, have no idea what's happening with the trains though?
Apparently there is some kind of lurgy going round our office. I wonder how many people have to go home before we are all allowed.
I think this is one of those situations why they made Wiki editable by everyone
oh no!
We should set up a new website with that on. And instead of having one big list with lots of racing series, because that doesn't make any sense, it would have a list for each.
I've ended up collecting hats because they are cheaper. I stopped because sometimes they aren't so cheap..
I'm keen to help if you are interested ;)
Makes sense. Although if I'm not mistaken, the whole reason for the RANKINGS is to answer the question of who's the best driver out there right now across all of motorsport.
No can do unless a weekend, sorry.
Boo :(
Or not if you want time off...
As always the main problem is finding the time but we can give it a go
I actually have the raw data for classifications for the last year. I am sure I can knock something together but not until after Easter...
Yes, but you can't.
I suppose what we can do is demonstrate how changing the factor influences the results.
The best we can do is a form guide as Alex suggested. I'm actually really keen to do something now...
We've got the results data for F1, IRL, NASCAR, ALMS and GrandAm for the last two years from Speedgeek's game and I'm adding LMS and WRC for mine. Wouldn't take too much to pinch those tables.
ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/30/a-lap-of-malaysia-with-mark-webber/
Right. And it might be interesting or it may only serve to debunk the idea of rankings. I'd be interested to find out. Either way it'll be more 'accurate' than theirs. IMO.
It'll take a week or two to pull the raw results together for the '09 and '10 seasons, I can do that if you can apply your statsy stuff to it. :) There's no hurry.
Sounds good to me. Just let me know ;)
Ok
Denny Hamlin won a grandfather clock?
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13247971
Wait... NASCAR are back to spoilers???
yup!
Yeah but I don't know if it is for all tracks. They didn't like the aero wash or something.
*Shakes head*
Are they gonna bring back leaded fuel next?
I wanted to begin collecting team keyrings and bought a Williams one last year to get started.
So far I have... one Williams keyring.
That's quite the collection
I also have a Honda Dreamfields torch keyring that is therefore at least two years old and doesn't actually work anymore. I don't think that counts. :)
Hehe, it can be hard to stick with it. The last thing I got was an F1 pack with a mug and a keyring and the deodorant for a few quid, special offer... and that must have been in the summer.
A Franck ping: http://iheartfranck.com/2010/03/30/the-road-to-superleague/
the last thing i got was a Christian Albers hat that i won from Crash.net!
If I'd stuck with it, I probably would have got bored and ordered them all online at the same time anyway. Job done.
Also it is Mr M's first outing this weekend. I have no idea how to follow it.
It was online last year.
You should go!
The thing you could do... is take the data for separate series then have a sort of ranking of the series slider (like the pole poll thing) as you change the rankings it would update the aggregate. But I would not be party to any site that suggested it knew the answer of which is more important between the series.
I can't be sure, but I think there's a race this weekend.
its easy to rank series of a type, e.g, i could quite happily rank all single seater series, but then bring saloon ans sports car series and then putting numberes of relative difficulty, you'd never agree on answers
Just go on Saturday, you're allowed to miss an hour of F1 for Franck!
But I might disagree with you... that's the point... And even then it doesn't mean anything because it can't.
Say 1 driver comes into GP2 and dominates GP2 winning every race. The points must be in such a way that means that he might be better than some lower performing F1 drivers. But can you really say he is worse than the driver than wins the F1 season? He didn't try to win the F1 season yet.
The ranking suggests, "this is the best driver". But it can't be true. The best driver in GP2 could be a better driver than the best driver in F1.
Not sure I want to go all the way to Silverstone for some racing I'm probably not that interested in. The schedule has a lot of words I do not understand.
I think if Franck is serious about this motorsport career of his he's going to have to use this opportunity of racing in this country to visit Sidepodcast HQ on rockall.
Exactly. He should at least make the effort.
The tickets are nice and cheap though. Good old sensible race organisers.
Have you ever been to a lower series race?
Nope. Seen some stuff during the GP weekend, and reported on some of the racing at GPlive: http://sidepodcast.com/2007/09/06/video-16-gplive-2007/
aren't individual series already ranked? isn't that what a championship does?
i heard that.
what???????
Hehe. I don't think Jon knows us very well at all. This year we swore we wouldn't watch Free Practice and have failed for two races in a row now.
who'd run the factbyte factbox?
plus, this is england and it's april. that's a guaranteed cold right there.
surely it's also the most important hour of the weekend? who'd miss qually but watch a race this year?
I am definitely more interested in the ones that don't clash with races. Just because they happen to be in Spain in June is neither here nor there.
hehe
Is it worrying that the live player on SF.com says the next event will be Nov 09?
http://superleagueformula.com/superleague/SF-Live/Online-broadcasting
I don't think it is that easy. The other week Gavin and I disagreed about how to rank IndyCar.
Didwe?
I have no idea how to do that, and I'm not sure I'd want to..
I think when we listed out the series the Castrol Rankings covered, I said I'd have IRL 2nd and you said a little lower but I can't remember how far.
That sounds about right - the talent and the vehicle spec is lower than the series deserves in my opinion...
you had the best comparison in the world last weekend. sato can crash both an indycar and an f1 equally.
:D
Heheh :)
david coulthard blamed the brake supplier live on air on the bbc. brake supplier says no:
With regard to the retirement of the Red Bull Racing's driver Sebastian Vettel during the Grand Prix of Australia, Brembo communicates that the cause of his exit in Turn 13 was not caused by the braking system supplied by Brembo, as some publications have reported.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82546
I was tempted because I think I can make Race 2 and the final, if the F1 finishes on time.
But.. it is grey and rainy where I am. Forecast is to get cold late in the week. And I don't really care about SF.
Oooh. I wonder how DC will deflect the blame now?
Apart from the cars. They look pretty cool. And some of the drivers. ;)
meteorite shower.
"It's not as if Red Bull employ an Astronomy team is it?"
magnets
:)
:)
"It's not as is Red Bull can influence the strength of the Earth's magnetic field is it?"
I still like your comment about mining the metal best ;)
"red bull don't make the earth spin on it's axes. none of the teams do."
:D
Being called away to count cheese, see ya later...
Later Pat :)
:D
Happy birthday EJ :)
On a completely different note, I've done an update as to who was on what gearbox as of the end of the Australian Grand Prix.
Oooh. I wonder how DC will deflect the blame now? {Comment #540}
How about "Well, they would say that wouldn't they?" Especially since this is the second time in two races that a supplier has declared they weren't to blame for a failure on board Vettel's car...
And Red Bull blamed Renault a lot last year, when Renault themselves did not suffer engine failures...
is there not every chance that the supplier is correct, seeing as no other brembo car suffered? and that newey is doing some funky things with brake positioning?
http://www.f1technical.net/development/281
true story
Some more Doctor Who stuff: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/03/30/your-doctor-who-spin-off/

is there not every chance that the supplier is correct, seeing as no other brembo car suffered? and that newey is doing some funky things with brake positioning? {Comment #553}
There is every chance that the supplier is correct.
There is also every chance that there's a pattern developing here, and that DC, as a Red Bull loyalist, is not going to admit that it could reflect rather poorly on Red Bull ;)
Even I know Newey makes fast but fragile cars. He's the first person I would
blameask. This is why I don't like that DC is a Red Bull guy. I feel he's starting to detract as a pundit because he refuses to speak bad of the team...
yes, but I think one time AUS was after KL, the year of Commonwealth Games in Melbourne when Bahrain opened the season, or am I wrong ? {Comment #336}
You are completely right - 2006 did see KL and Melbourne swap over for precisely that reason, and Bahrain started the season then (and got fairly heavily moaned at).
Considering that the BBC are supposed to be impartial, they have one guy who stalks the paddock saying "remember when I gave you a job" and the other one saying "hey Red Bull, love you always"
i think this f1 thing is going well for them :)
Full credit to Ant, I can't recall him doing that Honda/Brawn or his Sportscar connections...
Good evening everyone...
I am having a relaxing day doing a bit of work (honest) before heading out into the desert tomorrow for shakedown...
Weather is lovely and nicely breezy here in Amman although I am expecting it to be hotter out on the stages away from the city and in the desert...
I have brought a hat.....
Ant certainly talks about his time at Honda and everything, and you can tell his fondness for JB, but somehow it doesn't come across quite as... desperate as DC.
Indeed. He uses it to add colour, but I don't think he would blatantly jump to their defence like DC would...
In truth I think that the only thing DC defends is the reliability thing and you have to recall who it was who helped bring Newey to Red Bull....
Yep... it was DC....
oooh, fair point.
Oz quali was rubbish and the race was good?
Why did you swear not to watch FP?
because the race was wet, yes.
fed up of using up all my holidays on friday's for f1. thus far have only used one.
I forgot about Indy Car etc, but for the european SS series I think its quite easy to rank them
I don't know why you would use holiday up for Free Practice :s it's not that good
ummm, that was our point. luckily this friday is a bank holiday.
Unless you were going to the race of course...
Even still, FP is pretty dull
but you didn't even get up to watch the race did you? we're on a totally different level here.
Oooooh. Almost forgot about that. Must look at my Fantasy WRC lineup later.
Not from everywhere... I always love the Friday before the hordes decend.... it has a more intimate feel to it....
And you can usually sit in the really good seats for cheap or even free! :D
I didn't get to up to watch the race for 2 reasons;
a) after Bahrain i wasnt up for getting up at 6 for a (potentially) dull race
b) i've been very ill, and so i dont get enough sleep as it is at hte moment!
rarely do i miss an Oz GP live
oh right you mean at the circuit itself, i agree at the circuit, but on tv ive never been that excited. if its on ill watch it because it's very relaxed and i can put it on and do other stuff at the same time.
fair enough. but you have to see from out point of view we haven't missed a race since we started sidepodcast. sickness, tiredness, boredom be damned.
Sorry to hear it I hope you are better soon... there is nothing worse than not sleeping, unless it's self inflicted like party going, which obviously isn't the case if you are not well ... look after yourself...
But me... there is sickness and SICKNESS...
Jon's hardly a part-timer....
I mean, you know, I don't want to harp on about it, but I rearranged my wedding around F1.
nah Mr C does have a point, and i agree for races, but if it were quali or going to an actual race meeting on a saturday i've already got in the car with my seatbelt on!
I have to admit that I used to be gripped when at home by watching every sector Kimi did but it's not quite the same this year...
i know. and before bahrain last year i was basically dead. but still watched it before going back to dying.
my point not to judge jon but to point out he is miles away from us in terms of dedication to the cause. therefore it makes no odds to me tha he finds FP dull.
I thought it was "me" that rearranged HIS wedding....
and that's where we even farther apart, smaller categories bore me silly.
hahahahahahahahahahah
ahahaha
ahahaahhehehehehehehehehehe
...
...
no
which i get, but i dont get why you'd take days off for it. to me thats insane.
Gosh I didn't realise you were seriously ill then... probably because I was at the race last year so didn't realise the position... apologies....
totally, but Superleague is hardly small
that is quite the dedication. but it was a rookie mistake to book a wedding during a back-to-back race weekend.
even if a was sulking about schumi cheating at the time.
i've yet to see a race. i can't judge it.
You just need a hook I reckon and "me" hasn't found one yet...
PS I haven't with Superleague yet but I expect you can supply one...
It's insane to take days off work to do something you like?
even still, i guess it depends why you'd watch it/go to it.
i lived, but i very much wanted to stay asleep.
It's insane not to.....
If you enjoy it then fair enough, but FP does nothing for me.
you need a factbyte factbox to play with :)
my bad
The thing I like about FP is that the coverage is targeted at F1 diehards, because they're the only people who'll actually take time to watch FP. So when you listen to interviews and get the analysis, it sometimes tends to be juicier that. :)
Than what you get in quali and race, because it has to be targeted more for people just starting to watch F1. :)
*Corrected
totally, and as i said, i'll put it on and even iplayer it if im bored with what im doing, but it will never get my undivided attention
It must do something for you then.
i like the noise, and i like to hear how Holly and Ted work in the pitlane
5live is a great example of that.
Ah, well, no one can resist Ted.
True dat
Indeedy. :D
Although that would be fun...
Errrrrrrr.....
I am getting three "Reply" buttons... and then another three....
Is this Jordanian wi-fi or you guys?....
refresh you page to fix
Aha...
Fixed!...
I think its interesting the relationship between commentator and pit lane reporter and how they need to be on tune with each other, so that they've got the person the guy in hte box wants to talk to, before he's even asked.
spoken like a true f1 fan :)
Spoken like a guy who thinks about pitline commentary a little too much ;)
I would be pretty annoyed if I was Brembo right now...
oh look! They are too!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82546
Just thought you'd like to hear another piece of joy from the CRAPPY rankings...
Nelson Piquet Jr (the one who isn't an F1 driver anymore?) is a better F1 driver than....
Mr Michael Schumacher.
stupid thing
sidepodland, do you have any awesome suggestions for us to do whilst queueueing
apparently i misspelt it
we need suggestions for "new rules!", as per yesterday's show. so, new rules for london?
Yet another reason to ignore those rankings. But then, over a 52-week period... Perhaps it's not complete lunacy. Just... partial lunacy. :D
what are you queueueing for? ;)
we are seeing russell howard :)
Hello sidepodcasters! Have any of you been to the Spa for the Grand Prix? My girlfriend has got me a weekend at this year's race (I'm very lucky, especially as she has zero interest in F1 and the race falls on her birthday!) and I'm trying to choose seats - thinking either the covered stand at the top of Eau Rouge or the covered stand at turn 1.
Any thoughts? Thanks for any comments!
lou understands you but im stupid :(
hehe, at least someone was paying attention ;)
my phone really doesnt like commenting today!
hey, pad-rock. a group of us are heading to spa this year, there's a wiki page with loads of info:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Spa+Grand+Prix+2010
at this rate, who else will be left here in the comments?
*during the Spa weekend?
hehe. ummm...
I'll be here, cheering on my boys (and Kobayashi) from the comfort of my bed.
Hey folks
Oooh. Looks like the shop will be left to us and Christine's mum-in-law. ;)
hey ya chap
Any news on Alison, if she'll go or not?
she hasn't been needed for ages. we get out more :)
*need to
Haha! Too true. :D
What a very handy wiki! I see a lot of you are in uncovered gold 4 stand at the top of eau rouge ... I was thinking of the covered stand gold 3. Apart from the cover, is there much to choose between them? Thinking covered would be good given how many wet races we have had there!
It's been impossible to drag you away from Factbyte Factbox code. Now, though, you have no excuse. :)
ahhhh shucks.
Formula 1 at the shops?
I went to the shop and I bought an Alonso
I went to the shops and I bough an Alonso and a Button
I went to the shops and I bought an Alonso, a Button and a Cog
alex i love the idea but are you implying i would buy alonso before jenson? lol am taking advantage of the fact lukes phone keeps crashing and commenting when he cant :) hehe
I went to the shops and I bought an Alonso, a Button, a Cog and a Diffuser.
I went to teh shops and I bought an Alonso, a Button, a Cog, a Diffuser and an Engine.
I went to the shops and I bought an, a Button a Cog, a Diffuser an Engine and a Ferrari for Alonso...,.
We just started a new game Alex....
I went to the shops and I bought an Alonso, a Button, a Cog, a Diffuser, an Engine, a Ferrari for Alonso and a Gearbox
I went to the shops and I bought an Alonso, a Button, a cog, a Diffuser, an Engine, a Ferrari for Alonso, a Gearbox and a Virgin fuel tank
You have to go alphabetically though...
Maybe you could say I would buy A............Button or perhaps I would buy Assurances Button Will win?
I went to the shops and I bought an Alonso, a Button, a cog, a Diffuser, an Engine, a Ferrari for Alonso, a gearbox and Heating pads for the tyres....
As we have already proven though I am not very good at traversing the alphabet so I best sit this one out ;)
Do ya?
Dodgy game.
Ordering Hamilton to crash into the Wall just afer Button replaces the tyres, Lou?
i went to the shops and i bought an alonso, a button, a cog, a diffuser, an engine, a ferrari for alonso, a gearbox, heating pads for tyres and some inclement weather to spice up the racing.

:)
Look! Trulli's missing smile is above this sentence!

Isn't the point of this game to test your memory? I don't think it's quite the same with the use of a blockquote. :)
ummmm... Ahhhh.... Errrrr.... *thinks* Oh I know no we're making a list that Lou and Lukeh have to learn off by heart and then phone in to the voicemail number to prove they can remember it. So it still is a memory game really. Phew ;)
rats
ooh, good save
Heheh. Alright then :)
I have just got a sneak peek at the Radio Times spread on Doctor Who with the Episode Guide by Mr Moffatt. Not saying nothing but I am super duper excited now.
Coulthard: "It's not like Red Bull manipulate my thoughts is it?"
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/lewishamilton/7535629/David-Coulthard-Lewis-Hamilton-needs-a-father-figure-in-troubled-times.html
why do i get the impression that story is written with the explicit intention of setting martin brundle up as lewis' manager?
Because DC wants everyone to have a conflict of interest? :D
hehe!
it's interesting that the criticisms have reached DC already.
How about DC himself?
http://www.autocar.co.uk/blogs/racinglines/archive/2010/03/30/why-lewis-hamilton-needs-david-coulthard.aspx
oooh, yeah, that's more like it.
Evening all
hey chris.
did we know t'other alex was featured on espnf1?
http://blogs.espnf1.com/The_Pits/archives/2010/03/living_the_f1_dream
Hi. :)
Wooo!
I'm back home again and catching up on comments I missed while counting cheese.
Evening all
Hi
I see superleague formula have updated their website to include some of this season's info. Bourdais has signed up for another season and Franck now has a car number - 33.
First race is Silverstone on April 3rd/4th
http://www.superleagueformula.com/superleague/SF-Races
I see the mighty Spurs have retained Dolby for this season, I hope he's tuned in to beat Liverpool this time around.
Interesting. I've never taken notice of their laptimes and they go to Silverstone and Nurburgring so we can check against F1 and GP2, and they go to Assen and Zolder so we can roughly check against Champ Car's visit.
I've never heard of Navarra and I'm a circuit geek..
Hello all, one more day of work and 4 more days to Dr Who Yay! (There may also be some F1 this weekend but due to relatives I'm going to have trouble watching live :( ).
Dr Who interviews stacking up. Matt Smith was on Richard Bacon today
http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/dailybacon
It's new to me as well. How many international circuits does Spain need?
with any luck, we might be talking to joe later. questions as ever are welcome here:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Questions+for+Joe
Just heard BBC Newcastle are interviewing Matt Smith tomorrow morning.
Have plonked one on.
I am attempting to record the "international single seater" preview show as it is now around a month to go, but the main 3 series are useless, they don't have any sort of media pack out or updated driver list, so im having to use wikipedia as my fountain of knowledge.
If it's all wrong, you'll know why!
ta.
I have added a couple of questions for Joe. One is a bit unusual
hehe. that is an interesting one. shall enquire.
I am fairly certain he doesn't but it flashed through my brain and I thought I would put it in for a laugh. Anyone who is prepared to stand up and deal with questions from a live audience is unlikely to have a preview for a recorded podcast
It's Hammond time. BBC1. Assuming the power holds up. Keep geetin one second power cuts and lots oftown close to here have been knocked out for hours due to weather
Hoorah. All done. How are we all this evening?
Was just on the phone talking about Wiis for a while. Now finishing my TMR results post, suitably delayed :)
I've got a FR3.5 recording on. It's boring, but I blame it being Barcelona.
Ask him about Catherine! ;)
This place has finally sprung into life.
Stalking questions would make a good show
again?!
Evening everyone,
What goes on?
hello everyone! :D
Hope everyone's good - just in the door.
hello new arrivals. last call for question for joe: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Questions+for+Joe
How do you manage to look so fresh with all the travelling?
Hi Leigh and Rocket.
It has been very quiet here tonight.
Aye - been a busy day my way. Just flew back to Ireland to chill out for a few days - only to remember how awful the internet is over here
eircom monopoly?
Not a monopoly as such, but the best broadband we can get in our area is a very (very) patchy 1mb connection.
Everyone else tends to run less than that
blimey.
Big difference when I'm used to my 20mb connection.....
i bet!
what can I say, I have a one track mind: The Finn and those who surround him :D
ooh Pamela mentioned that she wanted to ask him why HRT aren't allowed to be called Hispania but she forgot.
You could ask what Emma is doing in Dubai again
nice one.
Hello!
Can you suggest to Joe that he stick his iPhone in a top pocket to record what he is saying. He would probably have to summarise each question before answering, but the recording quality is reasonable if close by.
for the next meetup you mean? can do.
you always know what I'm trying to say :-)
I feel a little guilty that I didn't try harder to record it but the levels were terrible.
Do you have any lapel mics that work with iPhone/Touch?
How long can you record on an iphone for?
until you run out of space or battery. A fully charged iPhone should easily get through an evening with joe. If not, external battery packs are small and cheap
does anyone know where i can find bbc coverage times for malaysia? the only page i can find from the bbc doesn't seem to make sense
OK so, is there anyone to potentially battle with Bourdais in Superleague? I'm going to try and watch it this year, but I can't imagine it'll be too much fun if he runs away with it.
It's split between BBC1 & 2, hold on
Here ya go
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7755219.stm
And, hey all! :)
Game ping: http://toomuchracing.com/2010/03/30/tmr-game-week-10/
I am about to see if I can tidy it up with a couple of photos..
it says bbc1 8-10 bbc2 10-11 post race forum 9-10...?
Franck?
I hear that Craig Dolby bloke is good... not sure why.
Oh yes, nearly forgot about Montagny
:)
I'd say the forum bit is slightly wrong :)
Normally starts an hour before quali and the race both of which start at 9am according to http://www.formula1.com/
do you know why it's been split?
Franck?
Religion :)
As Pat says, it's Easter stuff on BBC1 and football stull earlier on 2
Always gets in the way of something!
;)
I'd never heard of him before, so i googled and WOW. There is a great British driver in Superleague! How did i not know this!
I wonder if God is about this time of night, I'm sure he can postpone Easter just for the F1.
some easter sunday thing? f1 is my religion! :D
Full-ish grid here
http://www.superleagueformula.com/
ooooooh dear
And he drives for Spurs...
You are supposed to be the expert
I think he'd have to consult Cadbury at this late stage
It's not on the way to F1.
At all
If he postpones it a week it then clashes with Franck's race
I get that the BBC has this legal requirement to show the Easter stuff, but surely they could move the repeat of Match of the Day?
:D
Exactly!
Anyone know if the 5 Live commentary is on the red button at all this year?
I missed it last week
Presumably this bloke Dolby has driven in other classes although to be fair I had heard his name but knew absolutely nothing about him
i hate repeats - that's what iPlayer is for!
They better not touch Match of the Day. Its my only chance of catching up when I missed the previous nights one.
Match of the Day, due to license restrictions, doesn't go on iPlayer.
i can't get it on my virgin box but lou says she had it on sky
No reason it couldn't be on BBC1 and have uninterupted F1 on 2
Silly schedulers
I got it last year on Freeview and Virgin for most races :(
but it could be at a slightly different time seeing as there is live racing on...
He did Renault UK and was a bit rubbish, so did Renault Belgium and Renault France and Spain and Italy, which explains why I've never heard of him.
Renault Italy to Superleague is a HUGE jump
that would be a better idea
No wonder I don't know anything about him. How do guys like that get breaks like this?
If he did more than one series at once does that make it Dolby stereo?
Usually money.
my red button seems to be playing up on my virgin box, only just switched to virgin so i don't know if it's just me
:D nice
Possibly to get more viewers? More people are likely to see it on BBC
oops, pressed enter too early
As I was saying, more people are likely to see it on BBC1, so wanting to change to BBC2 and that?
I recorded my preview show earlier and it dawned on me how many drivers are in their 3 and 4th seasons of GP2 and WSR, it's all down to money, dosen't matter if they are rubbish or not
That has always been the case in motor racing
True story.
He drives for Spurs and finished 2nd. Don't mind too much ;)
And on that, night and lotsa love.
night x
Night RG
Night RG
It's amazing is what it is! His site says he wants to be in F1, so why he's not doing GP2 or F2 atleast I don't know.
Night RG
Wow - that Superleague list is essentially drivers that never made it out of GP2. Hmmmmm...
haha. Craig Dolby is one place ahead of Marino Franchitti in rubbish rankings. Amusing
There are a few who made F1
or ex-f1
well, 2 of them....
It's Craig Dolby'sbirthday in half an hour. He will be 22 and has been racing cars since 2003. That is a lot of racing for someone of that age
not many are from GP2, or were good in GP2.
lots of people who should ahve got out, but never did
Bourdais, Montagny, Karthekayin, Doornbos makes 4
Of course, I keep forgetting about Bobby D and Franck
They clearly start early in Belgium. No karting either so he couldnt have got a licence that way. surprising
According to his out of date website he started racing when he was 4
http://www.craigdolby.co.uk/Pages/Profile.html
ah then, that explains how he starts so early.
You have to be 16 to get a full racing licence in Britain, unless you've got up to a National A Karting licence (i think) and then you can get a licence from there, still have to do the test though. Thats how it used to be.
i best go to bed, night all xx
Good night
Why haven't I been paid :(
Because you are still in yesterday?
:(
