Monday has returned and we are headlong into not only another week, but the build up to another race weekend. Already I have seen preview press releases flying around which means it won't be long before another Digest is due. Talking of which, you can listen to the Australia GP show here. Now, onto other subjects:
- Now, we all know Lewis can't say a word without it being trawled over by all and sundry, but this weekend he wasn't exactly being shy and retiring. Will Buxton has an interesting take on the very public nature of Lewis' comments and wonders whether the McLaren driver needs to cool it just a little.
- We've really enjoyed all the commentors who made it to the Australian race and gave us an insight into the GP from their point of view. There is one more event happening in Melbourne - An Evening with Joe. Mr Saward will be offering up his second talk and if it's anything like the one in London, you can probably still get a last minute ticket if you're in the area. You know we highly recommend it.
- Lukeh has offered up his review of the Australian GP, in fact it was up very quickly after the racing was over. I don't want to spoil it for you but it's fair to say the grade has improved significantly from the action we saw in Bahrain. I really like these posts, an innovative way to look back on the action, and I can't wait until we have more races to compare and contrast.
That's all for today, I hope you've had a good weekend and are prepared for the weekend. I don't think I am ready for Monday, but that's okay! I will see you in the comments.
Hello to Monday & Sidepodcast
Hello
What a relief it was to return home from work and find the GP results hadn't changed since this morning :)
:D
hi bassano
hi
I was thinking, and this may have been discussed earlier, if Lewis hadn't pitted for a second set of fresh slicks, would he have had the pace to catch the Ferraris [not to mention the extra tyre wear]
he were he was before pitting? behind Massa?
My mistake
Before he pitted he was in 3rd about 9 secs behind Kubica and came out behind Alonso
Playback on the [good] timing app is awesome!
he'd have had to support massa's pressure for the last third of the race, maybe? kubica could, but I guess he is lighter on the tyres than lewis.
then again, he wouldn't have had webber ramming onto him... IF, IF, IF ;-)
Indeed
A podium was certainly conceivable
McLaren splitting their strategies perhaps
Goodnight.
Parting shot for anyone who tried watching the IRL qualifying the other day and got frustrated with it, as myself and many others did:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siZtC0p71cU
G'night Pat
Night Pat
Maybe. I think the idea was right, but having Webber just behind wasn't in the calculus. Not only because he ultimately crashed on Lewis, but also because he had to defend himself and couldn't focus just on overtaking Alonso. Without Webber, I think he could have passed both Ferrari's and Kubica in the 12 laps he was sitting behind them.
night pat
I feel better now that I have had dinner. My bodyclock is screwed.
I am trying to navigate the bug city. Melboune has trams!
Or perhaps the big city. there are nit so many bugs
I don't think Hamilton would have passed all 3 cars and I thought button looked after his tyres brilliantly
:D
I thought I was heading for an early night, having slept about 6 hours in 2 halves. Seems not
iPhone is so cool. how did people navigate strange places without them?
I was awake for 28 hours straight as my pre-race sleep didn't happen. I decided a couple of hours sleep before Giggles Radio was a good idea but didn't wake till 8pm.
I hate it when that happens
I shifted my day by 5 hours, went to bed 4-5am, got up 12-13.
That seems a lot more sensible
Best thing about 4 days off is i actually have lots of work to catch up on and day is going quick :D
it didn't on saturday at 4:30am ;-)
I finished marking the exams. The exercise I had to check doesn't look very good... :-(
Sleep pour moi. Night all
Night Jon
night jon
I have no idea where to go.
:D
Night
Ask Amy. She must know her way around
iwill if I get totally lost. Right now I am just crossing the street every time I see a green light.
I'll go to provide myself some dinner. see you
Bye
i can't sleep (damn timezone changes). just reading grandprixplus and david tremayne says:
Okay, Lewis ‘hooned’ his Mercedes road car round the outside of Bruno Senna on his way out of the track Friday night, and was a Very Bad Boy.
doesn't add to much to the story, but it was news to me that senna was around.
Me too
The things we do for F1
hey chap :)
Hullo there
So two of them were playing. Didn't know that either. I saw a comment before saying Lewis had done the same thing at the same place last year and the fans loved it.
welcme to my world ( for most races)
sounds like they went for the most recognisable one.
:)
Sounds like the cops were just waiting for it to happen
no doubt
tremayne said he got stopped for speeding at 25mph in a traffic jam there once :)
Vic police are totally nuts
:)
Mr c, what day do you do the debrief?
That's crazy.
done sir. recorded and christine will edit after work. what are ya thinking?
just wondering where i will be. Might not have internets
It's a wonder this didn't turn into a bigger shunt
http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/28/trouble-overhead/
alonso was so lucky. especially with so many rookie around.
dc would have smashed him for certain.
are you goung to the joe meetup?
You should have seen when Alonso span around. That was so close
would not miss it.
excellent stuff. will watch for updates :)
i would guess debrief will be up by 9pm gmt, not presumably you'll be asleep by then :(
cool I might get it. The hotel Internet is about 10kbs though :-(
yikes!
A spot of telly before somes zeds
G'night folks
Good night
back home and about to head out to office. not the best idea after all night on plane with little sleep, but one has to do what one has to do :-)
nigght sir.
you're mental!
That sounds like a tough day
I should have a shower and get ready to face the day
I tend to agree with that, but my presence in the office is quite necessary today. might delay it a bit though, coffee comes first :-)
day is half over. :D
james allen is sponsored by FxPro now?
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/
he has more personal sponsorship than the drivers!
someone mentioned on Twitter that nice storm hit Melbourne this morning. that is probably why the flight out was so bumpy
Grr why am i at work when catherine tweets her exact location!
Still stalking
she's a saints fan? you wanna get hold of ollie.
You can bet if i wasnt at work i would go there but its not stalking because its practically an invitation!
I'm standing next to a red bull Audi. I can't seen in!
Is it a Q7?
it was one of the smaller ones
Yay I just bought a Jenson Brawn shirt. Lou would be so proud.
Where are you? In CBD?
yep, but heading back soon
On discount, I presume? :) Wore my Jenson shirt yesterday when I went out after the race. He may be in a McLaren now, but I'll always be a Brawn fan and he'll always be part of the Brawn legacy. :)
Yep very cheap compared to the stuff at the track - $20
It's surprising how much of the best merch is actually available not at the track, but at the city center... That's where I got my awesome Ferrari F1 team jacket. It was nowhere on the track in Singapore or Sepang.
Ferrari stuff was super expensive on track. I would be looking elsewhere. Even the Kimi stuff was not discounted
And the Ferrari stuff was not new stuff either.
The new stuff doesn't tend to arrive until midseason, IIRC. Or at the very least until they get back to Spain.
Were there any Merc DVMB Schumi caps, BTW? Please let me know as if there weren't any, I may buy online ahead of time and just bring it to Shanghai. :)
yes, there were Schumi silver DVMB caps :-) but in general I must say the merchandise this year is very poor when it comes to design. Mercedes stuff is plain bad. The designs are so old fashion. They have Henri Lloyd branded garments but the quality of the embroideries is really poor ... Considering how expensive the F1 merchandise is in general, the teams and even the GP organizers should be able to spend some buck on proper design job
Hmmm. Interesting, that. The quality of the Ferrari DVMB caps before were good. Will have to see if it's that much worse now with the Merc silver DVMB caps.
Thanks Wolf! :)
The mercedes caps were sooo shiny. They made last years mclaren shirts look like they were made from normal fabric.
So they were nice, then? :D
Mercedes - old fashion, McLaren - nothing new, same stuff as last 3 years, except the have Button on now, Williams - quite boring, Ferrari - nothing creative (but they are probably the only ones who can get away with it because they are Ferrari). Virgin - one T-shirt. Lotus, HRT, Force India - nothing at all. I would say the only decent stuff comes from Red Bull/Toro Rosso ...
I find the design on the Ferrari cap beak a bit weird, but it's OK otherwise.
Morning.
Just a thought - if Button and others made a set of softs last nearly a whole race on a green circuit with high abrasion, does that mean that the drivers will be able to push harder knowing the tyres will last?
well, not everybody is as smooth as Button and not everybody has the luxury to lead the race, control the pace and drive without following another car. look at Hamilton, he complains about teams strategy but he managed to ruin even his second set of tyres ...
I have a theory that the two stoppers ruined their tyres once they realised the strategy was not much faster and that they had to push to make up the deficit of the extra pitstop...
Thing it though, it was quite clear that some drivers had absolutely destroyed their tyres after 30 laps on them, while Button kept on banging in consistent lap times throughout his 51 lap run. It's one of the differences between Jensen and eh.... certain others; however in saying that Jensen also has weaknesses that are seized upon by other drivers
true, but that means the drivers are not able to push harder :-)
I'd buy that
Oh and good morning by the way
Yes they are, just not too much harder ;)
In all fairness, Hamilton pushed between 1-2 seconds faster than the Ferrari's in a 15 lap stint - that was always going to tear his tyres up, but that happens sometimes....
We are at the tall. There's Joe!
or a lot harder but not for too long :-)
In theory, yes, but that has to be balanced against what Hamilton did with his set of tyres in the same car. We must also remember that Button had the luxury of a sizable gap, so he could afford to run at less than 100% as needed to conserve his tyres.
In other words drive the car properly?
It's definitely possible, but if everyone does what Button did in Australia (i.e. conserving pace to save tyres to the end), then we might just get a replay of Bahrain.
Button on the other hand, due thanks to the gamble on tyres that worked out for him, did not have to push that hard for that long ...
When I see all the papers, news portals praising Button for that tyre call I remember Chinese GP, one of the last ones I went to, (may have been the typhoon weekend one in 2006). Kubica mad similar call, went for slicks way ahead of everybody else. But that gamble did not work, he had to go back for the inters ... Not much separating hero from zero in F`1 ...
There is a whopping 2 females here. They are named pamela and amy :D
Hello Pamela and Amy!
Hehe. Let's remember, though, that Alonso was on a similar strategy as Button, and it seems he may have ruined his tyres in a way Button did not.
Agreed. And yup, that was 2006.
My favourites :)
I wonder if that's because he was trying so hard to get around Massa?
Maybe the aero effect also affects the tyres too?
Have you introduced yourself?
There is actually a theory on PF1, that, while not expressed properly, is worth considering. Some said Button only pitted on that lap because he had already rubbished his inters and had to stop for new tyres anyway, so went for slicks. Any thoughts on that?
Joe has his own secretary. ;)
Considering the entire field had been within two laps, how out was his call for a tyre change?
I think so, yes. Which I think kinda contributes to my point that while Button's strategy worked beautifully for him, it may not have gone that way had he been playing catch-up to Vettel instead of easily leading out front.
I think he gambled because he thought the track was dry enough.
But then you could say that they only reacted to Button's purple S2 and S3 while in last place, which is typical of how most strategists in the paddock act (wait for someone to take the gamble and make it work before doing it yourself).
Indeed. But someone would have made that call around then, because Hamilton excepted, it is the drivers who decide what tyres they need...
McLaren did say Button made the call to change tyres, so I think that's what happened as well.
And therein lies the crux of Hamilton's problem sometimes
Joe has his red wine. We are the only ones here on laptops and people are looking at us funny.
Many folk there?
Fair point.
Which makes you wonder about Hamilton leaving everything to the team... This has burned him before, and probably cost him a championship already.
I did a rough count and got 38.
Transcribing already? :D
I think some of them will remember you once they know who you are, Amy. ;)
There are people in suits looking very Alex
haha we are wondering how many of the people here know about this from sidepodcast
Allright folks - I'm going back to bed. Must admit, I'm quite sick this morning and am ready to fall over - feeling like a ship of nausea today
:(
2 more girls have just shown up but one of them went HELLOOOOO and kissed Joe on the cheek so I think they know him.
Oh you mean at the event? I thought you meant on Sidepodcast this morning :D
Is this being recorded for a podcast again?
VERY good question. :)
Doesn't look like it. iPhone record? We can try
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/29/australia-causes-chaos-on-christines-rankings/
ooooh its starting.
i heart joe
we got more access than peter windsor :D
what do you mean? :D do tell more. :)
he didn't get into the paddock once :D
Joe says he was warned about me this morning ;)
and you did?? wait, i thought peter was at the autograph thingy? oh yeah, that's outside the paddock...
Ahhh! What was he told? :)
That I'm the one silly enough to type up what he says.
Hehehe!
He said you like a drink too. You have a reputation in the paddock missy!
a few amy-questions, really :D
Good. If Bernie has any sense he shouldn't give him a paddock pass for a while!
What?? I don't know why Joe thinks that.
He said the first time he met you was in a pub.
This is true. I was driving though.
Ahh. He certainly does love you guys :)
Aww. The feeling is mutual.
Joe keeps looking at us because we have the only women at our table :D
We love you too because he said "I can tell you guys things I can't tell the whole room" when he found out we were sidepodpeople :)
Oooh, fabulous!
We feel a special part of a team :-)
He started to talk about what sport is the most environmentally damaging and someone yelled out 'we've all heard the podcast'
sidepodfans!
has the new doctor who website been mentioned? http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw (5 days to go!! :D)
heheheheh!!
heheh!
oops
this is totally making my week. everyone that christine has met in f1 thinks she likes a drink!
what in the world are teacup pigs?
http://twitter.com/lisamccormick/status/11237530470
Heikki Kovalainen will give up his Lotus T127 to local boy Fairuz Fauzy during the first practice session of the Malaysian Grand Prix, after losing out on a coin toss with Jarno Trulli.
http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/12849.html
all I knoow about them I learned from How I Met Your Mother.
NNOOOOOOOOOOOO.
although he did say on Thursday that the way the numbers were given to the drivers was with a coin toss, he said "lots of things get chosen with a coin toss"
Obviously he wasn't kidding.
jeez. presumably it's a one-off because it's malasyia.
I'd assume so. I guess I can cope with just 90 minutes. I can't promise I won't be sulking in the comments though.
reanult podcast finally added to itunes:
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/renault-f1-team/id363488562
if Lewis hadn't pitted for a second set of fresh slicks, would he have had the pace to catch the Ferraris [not to mention the extra tyre wear] {Comment #7}
The fact that he managed to wear out two sets of dry-weather tyres suggests to me that even if he'd overtaken the Ferraris in the few laps after that pitstop, he'd have lost those places and more because his tyres barely coped with the strategy he used, let alone having one stop less.
Such is the effect of being stuck in traffic most of the race combined with being a naturally aggressive driver.
Morning guys
woooooooo!!!
amy, have you found lorenzo yet?
@sidepodcast Evening with Joe in Melbourne going well. About 45 people here...I got my 3 questions in already! Joe in fine form. Lorenzo.
http://twitter.com/maimone/status/11243198913
Heikki will still be at the track though? Without helmet, chatting and smiling ...
ooh I wonder who he is.
if only Ant couldn't make it to Bahrain :D
ahh good, i was thinking about that last night, i think it involved a conversation in my head of what id say to Mr Lord if he asked me if i listened to the podcast.
Morning all
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-487669/Meet-Tetley-little-piggy-size-cup-tea.html
There's a whole thing of teacup size animals. Plus the TrueBlood 'teacup human' references!
Stand up in the middle of everyone and keep shouting his name until you see someone go really red and annoyed?
the boys pointed out to me before that since its easter and i have friday and monday off work, technically i could still make it to malaysia. I'd be lying if I wasn't tempted...
they're alive? good lord i assumed they were made of china or something!
oh wow, is Joe's shindig still going on?
its only been 3 hours!
I heart the word shindig.
awesome
tis the best word ever, since gobaldegoop (may not be able to spell that one though)
He must know who we are, we are the only table with women, and the only table with laptops.
Gobbledegook! :)
you're dreaming about bpl?
No, they're real. Kittens, ducks, squirrel and bunnies, among others.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/expresident/10-animals-in-teacups
apparently so. in my defence he is a totally awesome dude
i really hope christine is having a busy day!
LOVE the ducks
ooh, I should probably go now, before I get in trouble!
the host seems to be trying to make joe finish. Not happy!
Wooo 3 hours in and we are having a break. Joe signed my book. this s great
3 hours in and now you're having a break?!?
we had one earlier as well.
ah good
Not fair.
Some said Button only pitted on that lap because he had already rubbished his inters and had to stop for new tyres anyway, so went for slicks. {Comment #123}
That's plausible given that he was working the tyres pretty hard in that initial phase, but the rain was ending anyway so he ended up obliged to use the right strategy. When he posted the fastest middle sector of anyone on his out-lap, everyone else could see the writing on the wall and called their drivers in...
it's too late for that ;)
There's a newborn foal at my farm - quite exciting :)
It was born at 2:30am this morning and pictures of the (currently nameless) filly sitting down and standing up are on drop.io.
question i haven't seen asked yet. why did jenson destroy his inters so quickly, but lewis didn't? shouldn't it be the other way around?
I haven't seen Lou around, so I'll answer on her behalf - because jenson is a genius. :)
i didnt think he destroyed them, i just thought he couldnt get a balance on them? thats what remember him saying anyway
does this make Lewis a genius for destoying his tyres in Turkey a few years ago?
ah...hm...uh....hmm.
thought so ;)
jenson button: "I thought, if I am destroying tyres this quickly it must be dry."
what do you mean? :D do tell more. :)
he didn't get into the paddock once :D {Comment #150}
Was Bernie playing one of his little jokes with the paddock passes? Back in 1998, he got the pass security system to deny Eddie Jordan entrance with the message "You're too old for this". Of course, EJ was allowed in once he requested assistance and demonstrated he'd seen the funny side of the message...
ah yes, and;
"I didn't have a balance on the intermediate tyres," added Button. "I had so much oversteer and the rear tyres were destroying themselves after four or five laps."
Ooooh dear. I just heard what the roads minister of Victoria called Lewis for his driving silliness.
but why not lewis?
i dunno! very odd
that's the title of their road safety campaign too. madness.
There no facepalms in the world that could sum up that
Their road safety campaigns are very gory!
especially as it was the police offer who was being one, not lewis.
How so?
They do this with Rally drivers a lot - they seem to feel that by making an example of these guys that they are contributing to road safety in some way...
haha i had no idea what you were talking about, so googled it and am now laughing alot.
because the guy was clearly capable of handling the vehicle his was in charge of. no-one was in any danger. the man wanted to make a name for himself amongst his peers.
question i haven't seen asked yet. why did jenson destroy his inters so quickly, but lewis didn't? shouldn't it be the other way around? {Comment #213}
No. On a clear track, you don't have the same extent of unpredictable braking, accelerating and steering - you can do those things (within reason) when you like, which means you can do them gentler. When stuck behind someone else, you're trying to overtake them, which introduces sharp turns and therefore "spiky" lateral G-forces from attempts to pass. You're also trying not to hit the car ahead, so unless the car ahead drives in a completely predictable fashion, you'll be doing at least some sudden braking. If you brake suddenly, you're more likely to be going slower in mid-corner, so you'll want to accelerate harder to compensate and also to keep up with the car ahead.
The "wake" behind the car generally doesn't help because the car has to do more work to maintain the same speed.
I can't imagine how parents are going to have to explain to their kids about that one.
That's kinda what I was saying below. He'll be congratulated and slapped on the back for doing a good job.
Meanwhile some dude in the outback will climb into his car after 10 pints of beer, drive into and kill another family and there won't be a copper within 100 miles because they were all issuing speeding tickets...
i'd like to start my own campaign in the state:
don't be a traffic cop, get a real job
Joe has made sooo many 'victorian police' digs :D
:)
having seen lewis driving an f1 car, on a skidpan, in the wet... i would happily stand blindfolded, in a road and have lewis drive donuts around me, lighting up his tyres. he can do it all day.
He started to talk about what sport is the most environmentally damaging and someone yelled out 'we've all heard the podcast' {Comment #166}
:D
Gobbledygook is also accepted. :)
Yup, which was their point - Button lucked on the right strategy. Had he not rubbished his inters, he may not have made his call to go to slicks...
if Lewis won with it, he would've. but he didn't. :D
No, if you watch Jenson's first few laps they were awful, he dropped several places at the start, narrowly avoided crashing at the first corner and after a bit of a 'scrap' with Lewis he lost another place.. It would have been hard on the tyres and i think i remember reading somewhere that he thought he was just going to continue dropping through the field, if the new tyres hadn't worked he would still have dropped back... nothing to loose. That's what I gathered from his explanation anyway. I think there have been a few cases when he's not coped on inters when others have, but coped perfectly well on drys when others may have struggled to adjust...
i'm not even sure that answers your question... lol
at a guess, i would say that jenson wasn't generating enough heat on the inters to make it work, and it caused chunking on the tyre, whereas lewis was able to do so. i'm not 100% convinced by my own guess, though.
That is definitely what I meant when I was uming and ahing!
me too. HAHA!
at that point he was a subconciously being a genius.. ;) if his tyres would have been fine maybe he would't have been looking for that point where he could have changed so much.... either that or it could be argued he saw the similarities between his Hungarian win, and figured that he could easily gain some places that way...
either way... he = genius ;)
anyway.. hi :)
perhaps the police wanted to avoid a case where people think they can handle a car because they wanna be like lewis hamilton? so they go all "no one is above the law" on Lewis?
Hey Lou.
Is this how Red Bull are adjusting their ride height? http://www.formula1journal.com/2010/03/f1-ride-height-adjustment-red-bull-by-flood1.html
hello :P
right - caught up with comments. :)
yay!!! :D
http://f00.inventorspot.com/images/teacup-pigs.jpg
they... erm... are kinda cute?
Where's Alison... i'm sure she could have two teacup ducklings in her house ;)
hehehe reading the Joe comments it sounds like it's great fun again :)
I did think that when I posted it......
Has he changed his surname now ;)
hehehehe
we'll have to point it out to her when she's next around :)
I think Mr C wants to hide it from Christine though ;)
Although I'm in uni, I can't find my dissertation tutor so I emailed her a question. she's just replied with excellent advice when I asked what to do regarding self taken photos with referencing. My question was...
"what would you suggest I do regarding the photos I've taken to use as references or appendices within my dissertation?"
her reply?
"If they are photos as in images, yes"
....what?!
oh... well... christine may be editing next time Alison is around, i'm sure she wont notice unless there is a teacup panda ;)
having given it some serious consideration: https://twitter.com/sidepodcast/status/11246516206
:D hehehe well.. surely she could keep them in a teacup ;) it's much harder to loose a teacup :P
I can imagine jake and Karun doing a Bart Simpson and constantly asking 'Are we there yet?'
http://twitter.com/karunchandhok/statuses/11246552762
how about we meet halfway, and we just get christine a teacup?
i didn't think she liked tea?
could always put orange juice in there
i was thinking she could just look after the cup?
:)
*falls over*
I refuse to believe it is possible to not like tea.
so have I now.. I think.. :)
that wouldn't be much fun though? lol she could end up like lady gaga... obsessing over a teacup...
she made some yesterday. although sadly with one sugar. tea should never include sugar.
a possible compromise?
http://www.zazzle.co.uk/kawaii_panda_in_a_teacup_postcard-239616424344983414
or
http://www.galleriapangea.com/bamboo_covered_porcelain_tea_cup_cup_of_tranquility/product_details.html
agreed :)
This is true.
the tea of tranquility is awesome!
Absolutely. You might as well just eat a lump of sugar. But then you'd have no tea.
Make a note. Birthday present.
#Confidential
There is also a panda kettle, which is sooo cute, I think I may need one.
http://www.wishingfish.com/210617c.html
awww
ooo that's awesome!!
We kept Joe taping to 11:50 :D
Talking that is
I waited for everyone to leave and then i asked about catherine haha
Booo the guy who told us to go
Sounds like another great evening :)
Shame the turnout was a bit low if there were only about 40
Was the perfect number though, lots of chances to talk
We are doing a lap of albert park now
isn't it really dark?
Yeah its dark but its still exciting!
:D awesome, have they not started converting it back to roads yet then?
It's really odd looking on google street view of albert park and seeing how different everything looks when it's not a race weekend
Looking at the article alan baldwin tweeted, it seems Mark Webber decided to have a good sweary moment as well as the australian minister.
same with Valencia. When we arrived at like 10am most of the track was still.. erm the track. However when we left around 11pm most of the main roads weren't the track anymore :(
All they have really done is put all the green posts back up. There are some guys painting lines on the road now, at midnight.
Now we are heading to lygon st to see if anything is open
wow.
cool! i don't know what significance lygon street has though...
Is that where neighbours lives?
*no idea*
There is a Ferrari cafe apparently
don't.. think so... not that i watch neighbours.... *ehem*...
ahhh!
Oh thats much better than Neighbours
Thats the italian quarter with the ferrari cafe. And in case you are wondering joe said catherine is a really lovely girl.
Lou! I bought a Jenson Brawn shirt :D
:D what was his reaction when you asked him?
i saw!!! am very proud :) they're still selling Brawn stuff then? i will forever be envious that Amy has seen him win twice and i haven't even seen him race...
He didnt look concerned but someone had asked who the best wag was previously so the topic had already come up.
I was quite surprised. A Jordan hat caught me eye
Woo, time to head home I think. Good thing about easter is that there's noone in, so it's so quiet and super easy to concentrate. Lots of work done today :)
What did Joe reply? :)
:) ahh so not an entirely creepy question then :P
Joe says best wag is ann neal
webber's partner?
Afternoon everyone,
Pulled myself out of bed for the IRL race - hope everyone is good?
Morning! Just logging in for the very same reason! Is there any reliable webfeeds of it, the indycar.com stream is a bit rubbish!
Is that on now?
Try Channel Surfing.net - it tends to be a little more stable sometimes
oohh... 12 minutes. Should set the Tivo to record it.
Green flag at 3pm - the grass infield is still waterlogged and will start as a wet race, but it's not raining right now
You're welcome.
you made it for him? aww he didn't mention that!
You're also supposed to take the plastic off a pizza before you cook it, but hey, who's counting? ;)
fair point :)
hehehe. apologies for judging you.
It's all over, I'm back in the hotel :-(
I've done an engine update after Australia. I'm surprised Ferrari are already on their third engine apiece.
Amy almost had us driving to the airport for a flight to Malaysia. Jeremy was a little worried
we neeeed you to go there
How are you checking this BTW - is it in the FIA docs (steward's reports)?
Sidepodwhipround?
How are you checking this BTW - is it in the FIA docs (steward's reports)? {Comment #332}
It is. Though I will warn you the latest one has at least two dates wrong, unless they've suddenly started issuing official documents out of number sequence.
i'm surprised amy didn't decide on the result of a coin toss :(
Dont encourage her. Amy doesn't joke about these things
So seriously thinking about it haha
Ooh: http://twitter.com/alexjsnell/status/11247215302
me likes f1 drivers in economy.
doooo ittt..... :)
Coin toss? The only reason not to was because all the drivers have already gone
hehehe i read something last year where someone saw JB and his friends near them on a plan.. JB had homemade sandwiches and everything :)
Webber flies EasyJet - he wrote a BBC column about it last year...
Oh, and if anyone has not been to a Joe talk, GO. He really warms up to it. Keep the red wine going. I think he would still be talking if the guy running the place would let him
OK - indycar.com are officially taking the ****
wassup?
It's lasting about one minute and dieing - this not help my sickness
:(
I have gone for this feed http://www.justin.tv/adipocere#r=6i1Z29g~ everyone is watching it at work I guess!!
Someone tweeted this last night and I posted it as a comment before I went to bed but it was late... :)
http://www.you...m/watch?v=siZtC0p71cU
thank you very much
I had a perfectly timed day off, so can watch it!
Sidepodcast has got me addicted to IRL and ALMS, ironic for an F1 site to have the effect!
that wasn't the plan at all.
Is there an easy way to suss out my IP address? (Yes, I am a novice)
No, but it's an interesting side effect!
KATHIIIII!
yes?
do we still have room for one more in the luxurious motorhome?
We are 4 at the moment + possibly Lou and Pat, who haven't told me yet for certain.
nuts, I forgot to send a wiki message
IRL:
Oh Milka, Milka, Milka - who gave you a race licence?
i'm waiting on what Lukeh's doing.. LUKEH!!!!!
Are smoky fireworks really a good idea at the start of a race? #irl
So if Lukeh is coming and Bassano too (he doesn't know that yet but he will), we can rent a tent too, I think. Then whoever Amy wants to come can have my space because I prefer the tent anyway. All sorted :)
Always
...and a yellow flag on lap 1
That was always going to happen, I am suprised there was not damp slidy chaos!
Pamela wants to come tooooo. Super lurker!
Yay!
Wow - Andretti is confident
she was going to be in europe at the time anyway but was scheduled to leave one week before spa. we have talked her into realising that is a silly idea!
Wow, that's great :) The more the merrier.
I am loading up a page to find out the cost of flights to KL this weekend. Why did no one tell meit was easter sooner?
:D Tell her she has a bed ( there is still the possibility that my sister will come with our little tent so I can definitely find something else in case the big one doesn't work out)
I wonder are the Toyota recall adverts deliberately placed in breaks for a series powered by Honda....
;)
woooo now to find bassano and ask about tickets. :D
yay!!! she has to come!
i said to her that you would like it because she is an extra person to go driver stalking with :D
Eric (from Renault) says his job is "Super Co-ordinator"
Now i imagine him wearing a cape
"If you or a loved one have been injured or killed..." Wow, they are advertising to the dead!
I forgot to say, you can also tell me via skype if that's easier
From Indy
Yes, "handling issues"
oooo i forgot to ask were you and bassano are sitting? could you DM me or something so i can sit people i know? lol
should be on the wiki what stand it is, its gold something, if youwant to book to sit with us you'll need our booking number, mr bassano has that :D
Hullo again
ESPN2 advertising pep-pills
Brilliant!!
Okay. I've just been a bit busy in the last few days. Will send something later.
and as we learned from Marty Roth's days, that's code for "Mr Barnhart has parked me"
yes!!!! hehehe it's gonna be awesome! am seriously considering designing our own flag..not sure what would be on it though?..
ahh okay.. *dms bassano*
Aaahh Marty Roth... what a driver he was. Jean Denis-Deletraz anyone?
:o
hello
seriously, one of the appeals of going to malaysia is possibly being on a plane with f1 people for 8 hours.
Turns out the other reason not to go is last minute tickets are $1000.
AMY!!!! since you're liking the idea of going to Grand Prix...
@Chris_Buncombe
We have a few weekend places left on the Halcyon/Jenson Button Charitable Trust Yacht for the Monaco Grand Prix. Message me for info!
I can't go (dad would kill me)... you should totally go though! ;)
I'm not married yet!
A cartoon panda?
Ah Sato, Sato, Sato! #irl
Aaaaannnd Sato has crashed
Hi all, as long as I'm not stepping on any toes, I would love to join you all at Spa. Like Amy said I will be in Europe for 2 months and I can shift my dates slightly.
WOOOOO
Here I believe: http://i28.tinypic.com/4ru69c.jpg
Which is fantastic if sunny, perhaps not so much if it rains. But it won't rain.
but... but.... if i can't go you need to go for me!!! maybe you might find a nice rich man there!!! he can take you to more GPs...
If not maybe Mr and Mrs C could go? ;)
Awesome, the more the merrier :) I'm gonna sort out my tickets next week (not sure how though..?) but I have no idea regarding getting there and accomodation....
You're definitely not. Looking forward to meeting you :)
Go where?
yes!! you're not stepping on any toes at all!! it's gonna be awesome and the more the merrier! (although if you may need to stay away from Bassano if you don't want to get anything more than merry ;) )
to monaco! they have a few spaces left on JB's boat :P
I will talk to Amy about sorting out my tix in the next week or two too. What dates are people going?
But if she is doing something involving a yacht wouldn't she go on Kimi's?
Aww, thanks! :)
Oh. I don't think Mr C is particularly fond of boats.
i would call his more of a boat than a yacht ;)
afternoon all
read below vv are you gonna stay with us in the luxurious mobile home? or would you prefer to stay in a hotel?...
Getting there is the easy bit. At least it is for the UK contingent. :)
that's okay... you can leave him on the shore to take pics... ;)
but.but.but.
you got married on a boat?!
bingo.
The boat part was freakishly awful.
Ooh, I'd easily prefer mobile home...
*reads below*
All this planning is making me jealous!
Same. Would we need another mobile home?
Ooops, that was nearly embarrassing. The field going around just about got boxed in by the circuit clearance truck
ah.
bad times
How about an almost equally luxurious big tent?
It was going faster than Danica though...
Whatever for me ;) would rather that than a hotel on my own.
as long as I'm not in a tent I'm OK.
I'd think with a hotel option, twin or triple rooms would be available, if they aren't sold already
Agree. The fun is in the group madness!
ehehe same!
Gimme a sec - I'm going to dig out my snare drum for a quick roll
Those tents have 3 cabins. one with a double bed, one with two singles and one with a single. So I'm sure we can find an arrangement that would suit everyone. Lou what do you prefer?
Yes, I'm afraid I don't do tents either :(
Ah Ok, so it looks like a second luxurious mobile home
i'm not good with sleeping in a tent.... so... mobile home please?
i don't wanna cause trouble though?..
Same.
we shall have a Spa related convo tomorrow as i am running very low on minutes on my phone.. :)
ooh, good idea.
IRL:
While not up to Melbourne standards, this is still a pretty good race
I'll go anywhere vaguely comfy.
I'm not worried about travel to/from Belgium, but are there bus transfers from the mobile home to the circuit?
there are on saturday and sunday.
You're not :) but maybe someone else has to organise the bookings for that then because I'm not sure how much I can access the INternet in the 3 months before Spa and that makes it a bit difficult to find people and get their details.
Not half bad!
I'm happy to help organise if needed.
Righto. We'll have to figure something out for Friday at a later date, I was hoping to explore the track (I'm a track wanderer)
I guess it would make more sense for one of the people that will stay in the other one to do that. But if you could send me your full name and birthday and if you need sheets when you know for sure if you'll come, that would be great. Amy has my e-mail address.
Okay, cool. I will talk to Amy tmrw and get your details, and email you. Thanks!
The Renault F1 podcast is really good, but Petrov needs to work on speaking slower and being understood. Bless him
are we gonna need a wiki page on who's in which mobile home? cause atm i've no idea :)
right, I'd best get to bed for my 4 hours sleep. Night all!
wow, night Amy!
Night amy :)
Sorry I probably managed to confuse everybody.
I have to leave now, but I can do a wiki page tomorrow.
night!
Same here. Thanks guys! I am so excited about Spa!
woop woop. byee
that would be great :) thanks for being so helpful Kathi!! :) it's also a way of keeping track of everything, so people don't necessarily need to read through the comments?.. i'll happily make a page and things.. i'm just not sure whos staying and where they are staying...
Do we need to know that yet?
insane1
Oh Ohhh
safety car again
probably not. this is why i'm rubbish at organizing things.. i was just thinking if people need to book another mobile home it's good to know who it's for if Kathi can't do it?
If you could make an empty page that would be great because I don't know how or where to put it. I will fill it out when I am back
Hello, folks.
Dan Wheldon used to be so good. What happened to him?
Although in that case, it must be mechanical.
Wowwwww... crunch. Absolutely no breaks - scary
Or a rear end/suspension failure
I just thought if the number of beds matched the number of people then that's okay :)
that's probably the most simple...so what we need to figure out is getting another mobile home.. and then as long as each person pays their share it's fine? (i'm such a control freak it's best i don't get into positions of control... just ask Lukeh...)
Right rear suspension failure on braking.
First hit was nasty, but his smash into the wall was also quite scary
I guess I was just thinking that if the people who wanted to be together sorted themselves out, the rest of us can work it out practically on the day...
Wow, the veins on Wheldon's head are massive
Just a bit odd for Dan to talk about American troops, considering he isn't American. But there ya go.
But yeah I feel more secure knowing the two most important items are booked. Ticket and bed. :)
Well, it is sponsored by the National Guard
Indeed. Which is why I don't find it too odd. Just a bit odd. :D
castrol rankings...
after button's woeful drive in bahrain, he remained top of the charts. this week, after a masterful performance in the wet, he's beaten by... vettel.
this is what the site currently says:
Sebastian Vettel has a golden opportunity to take the lead of the Castrol Rankings if he can finish on the podium in this weekend's Australian Grand Prix.
wtf?
WHHAAAATTT???????
Where are those banners coming from? Odd...
i'm booking my tickets in the next few days, then i think i'll feel slightly happier about it all :)
true story. vettel is officially the best driver in the world.
...and 7th in the world championship.
Faling from the fences. They're posters as opposed to being painted on. Gotta say great job so far by De Silvestro
I know Melbourne was a great race but I dont think they're allowed to host the Malaysian GP
Let's see... where were they 52 weeks ago? Hmmm. They had similar Round 2 results (Button win, Vettel DNF).
Could it be that these rankings are, well... lagging by a week?
and moved from 2nd to 1st by not finishing.
by that logic, i am the best racing driver in the world.
i have never finished a race.
:) :)
the fact that havent started on either is far from the point!
All hail Jon!
Hey everyone
but.... but........ did they SEE the Grand Pix??? did they actually see it?? or did they sleep in and guess what happened!!
hoorah
i suspect it will reflect in next week's rankings... after Malaysia.
:D
I suspect that they watched half the race, thought, 'Well, Vettel won't blow this' and just updated it.
As Vettel did not finish last year's race, he did not lose any points by retiring from the lead of last Sunday's grand prix, meaning that his pole position was enough to eradicate the small gap between himself and Button coming into the race.
Despite taking his first McLaren win in Melbourne, Button failed to match the near perfect score he achieved at the same race in 2009 by winning from pole position, and dropped points as a result. It is the first time the lead of the Castrol Rankings has changed this year.
all hail Christine's rankings... the fairest most up to date driver rankings ever!
jenson won that one too. so he still can't improve... right?
it is utter b**************
I don't think know very much about geniuses
But that includes almost all of 2009. So he's somewhere between 2nd and 7th in the world championship.
*facepalm*
FAIL.
i think we should do what steven suggested. start a fantasy league based on those scores :)
fact :)
wot?
*scratches head*
the only thing that is saving them from further embarrassment is that no one really cares about their rankings to start with...
That has got to be the most ridiculous system of scoring a ranking system ever.
Since he only got the race win this year (i.e. not on pole), he didn't do as well as last year, so he got less points...
So you only get points if you do better than you did last year?
i only noticed because of the annoying banner on the autosport homepage and button had a red (falling) arrow, and i thought... WHAT!?
but still definitive.
Definitively ****
I can bash a calculator and pick names out of a hat too
You only gain points if you do better than you did exactly at this point last year. If you just did as well, no change in points. If you did worse, you lose points.
On that note I'm tidying up and going home via the shop, see ya :)
you're kidding me?!! just cause he didn't start from pole and lead the entire race?? if anything this win was better than last year cause he started from 4th.. ended up something like 7th but managed to make his strategy work so well he won...
i.....i.....i... wtf...
Superleague are looking for a Press Officer!
http://www.autosport.com/directory/appointments.html
See ya Pat.
yes! :)
you KNOW something's wrong when Lou reaches for wtf... :D
Lets try that... Michael Schumacher - Error. Oh.
See ya Pat.
i will never forgive them.
what happens in korea?
byee
I wonder what the writer was thinking as he was typing this...
hahaha :D
And Malaysia was only half a race last year. Will everyone move up this year if it goes full distance?
ooh!
What about for the likes of new drivers? They must be cruising up the rankings?
Hmmm. Good question. I'm not sure. Either they all gain points from it, or the divisor is different. Based on their Aussie explanation, I'm guessing they all gain points.
wait wait wait, so Jenson is screwed then.
He can't do better than he did last year
so... Karun stands a chance in winning?? seeing as any taking part if better than last year?
Conway crash, knocked into the barriers by Matos - full course yellow
:(
'
Good question! If I were to guess, they may have treated it as they would a full-distance one.
Not that different to my rankings then.
he could win the championship... i refuse to think it's not a least 5% possible...
Nooooo, he's in my successful Fantasy IndyCar team. Damn you Matos
on paper, yes. but do remember that the Standings points by the end of this season will (mostly) reflect the final championship order anyway.
Of course, but he won like a gazzillion races, you cant beat already winning.
And Schumacher wasnt there last year, so he's going to keep going up and up?
Isn't Conway the former Honda test driver?
yup
Not necessarily. As I said, by the end of the year, all of last year's results would've been discarded, and we just end up with this year's results factored in the standings.
Yup.
:D
He will be World Champion. I think HRT are sandbagging, personally.
Well, I say sandbagging, more like Hoover Dam-ing.
He may win another championship (though I doubt it)
he won 6... so he has to win 7 this year?
Hi all
Nope. He just has to be F1 champion again.
Ello Steven.
No he just has to do better in hte races that he didnt win. So has to win all hte other races ;)
*grumbles* stupid system...
Hey Steven
chap.
a win at Silverstone and a win at Spa would be very very awesome.. :P
hi steven
He hasn't got Grosjean to annoy him this year either
The ranking thing is very simple. Before Australia the rankings showed last year's points from Australia but those have now been removed and this year's points added so Jenson's score has dropped slightly. That part I understand but quite how he dropped a position I don't.
It depends what time of year it is. This may be true in mid-year, but by the end of the year, it'll just be looking at this season's results anyway.
Button lost points. Vettel (as he also DNFed last year) didn't.
speaking of my fav f1 driver
@the_real_jb Wow!! What can I say? Such a special weekend for me, not just the win but I also feel a real part of the team now. :-)
:D :D :D yay!! :D
ask him what he thinks of castrol.
The one and the same. Had a rough first season when he crashed a lot (remember his GP2 carbon fibre run), but had calmed a bit since then.
Translated: In your face, Lewis Hamilton! :P
But where is Vettel getting enough points to be close to Button from?
hehe :)
Mmmm, good question. I'm guessing their system rewards winning more than the F1 scoring system.
woohoooo, jakey has a new blog entry up!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jakehumphrey/2010/03/looking_back_on_a_great_weeken.html
talking of which, where's lewis in the official team pic?
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13247929
paffett is there.
If that was the case Button should be miles ahead
Best flight ever?
This is a true F1 flight, with every seat filled by someone who works in the sport. Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn is in the first row, Nico Rosberg's race engineer Jock Clear is to my left along with Hispania Racing driver Karun Chandhok, who is undoubtedly one of the coolest customers I've ever met.
Karun ftw!
same place whitmarsh is
Damn it - De Silvestro spun around
i saw that yesterday.. Lewis appeared to be changed into the 'winning shirt' and gave JB a hug before he'd even had a chance to take his overalls off... JB's dad, girlfriend, manager, phyiso.. and engineers are there... no sign of lewis..
Dixon crash!! Under safety car!!
how did THAT happen??
Embarrassing!
so he just finished his contractual obligation, then left? :D
Or he was in the stewards room discussing the Webber incident which seems a more likely explanation
But Vettel had 4 wins to Button's 6. It's not that big a difference.
Clipped the inside of 9 and the catapulted him into the exit wall. Must say for a postponed race, the grandstand looks pretty full
Andretti are announcing a fifth driver for Indy. Wonder who? Franck?
Wilson 2nd with 25 to go - c'mon Justin!!
erm... looks that way... i don't know what his 'team' looks like though... maybe he was having a post race meeting?.... or being calmed down by Martin?... or was Martin absent cause he was in the interview with the BBC?
Rumours are JR Hildebrand
Ahh. Could be. They didn't wait for him, though?
Still, it isn't fun being in THAT stewards room again just a year on from that mess last year.
Some time trials on the 22-23rd clash with the Superleague Formula.
Or both of them were with the stewards
Thanks
they were called to the stewards office?
I thought that might be the case
Montagny had a one race deal for Andretti which was filled at Infineon last season
or they were a bit further out the shot?
i would be surprised if they did it without Martin, the snapper might have already started before he got there
Webber was reprimanded for the incident with Lewis after he and Lewis were called to the stewards office. Normally the team principal or team manager goes with them. I don't know that is why he missed the photo but that would be my guess
We watched that here. He got punted out early but had a great recovery drive and the team made a lot of great comments about him afterwards
I'm pretty sure its Martin that is being blocked by Jessica
i couldn't see him in the wider shots yesterday..
ahh sounds like a possible explanation.
you mean the guy beside Matt B? nah, i don't think so.
not sure it is...
http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/98096687/Getty-Images-Sport
CHequered flag in St Pete - great race
i was looking at photos of the mclaren.. looks like they've gone back the asymmetrical exhaust design..
bahrain
melbourne
could just be the angle of the first pic though...
Sorry if this is just repeating something said during the weekend, my memory is shocking early in the morning..
Right - I'm going back to bed, because I feel awful...
Later on folks
see ya! get better soon!
night leigh
Definitely not the angle of the pic and I don't think anyone picked up on it.
The little pointy aero flicky thing (sorry for using technical terms) is missing from the right exhaust in the second picture.
Afternoon everyone...
...I have been ill all day... Some kind of cold. grrrr.
Oh no!
I have used this time wisely and have now completed Tales of Monkey Island.
As rubbish as cold's are, I feel that the cold was fate. A blessing in disguise. :)
oooh nooo! ;(
Indeed. Now I can start the Secret of Monkey Island on my iPhone which can be done while commuting and therefore while not sick.
Yay! Although I hope you fee better soon!
I'm sure Monkey Island is a secret medicine.
Man flu. Not good
I feel better now because of its healing balm.
It was almost deadly at one point around breakfast time. Then I got better for a bit then around mid-day I took a health nose dive... I almost went for a bit then, but I was able to croak out my lunch instructions to Katherine and the sustenance she provided me with coaxed me back for part five of monkey island. Now I'm better in time for diner.
*dinner not diner.
Katherine has drawn on me with her blue pen for that comment... More fool her... Now I have a deadly rash... And clearly can't make dinner.
Tell her she fights like a dairy farmer! The wit of guybrush threepwood will throw her blue pen antics back!
You are in no condition to make dinner if you have man flu. I blame time zones for this and for me not waking up till 8pm last night after I decided a couple of hours sleep before Giggles Radio.
Here's some pictorial evidence Trulli style of the deadly blue man pox:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-jpg-11
I did forewarn you about falling asleep... And now I'm forearmed!
Coincidence? I think not!
That looks like it could be infectiotious
Lie down, man! The last person I know to suffer blue man pox was a fella' I knew called papa smurf, and he didn't take a rest. He turned blue, and infected all his friends. There was even a documentary about them.
My goodness, I've had a rrrrubbish day. If I wasn't so tired, I'd think I accidentally slept through to Thursday.
I find my mondays sometimes swap with my thursdays, maybe that's happened for you!
pesky days, can't leave them alone for 1 minute
awwwww noo :(
Oh dear... Me too today has been a complete write off!
F1 minute?
I can't compete with man flu and blue rashes, of course.
Well indeed. Obviously we are very lucky that ladies cannot catch the man flu otherwise there would be big trouble I imagine!
At least if itwas Thursday you would have a race weekend to look after
Thursday would be acceptable because it's Bank Holiday Friday.
So have you still got the debrief to edit tonight? Is that a fun thing to do?
Sometimes for me, after a frustrating day, something that I can do which is taxing but repetitive can be quite soothing.
It is very fun. I mean, part of me would just like to go to bed, but once I start it'll be fine :)
It's just getting over that initial impetus.... Or... Starting if you will ;)
That old chestnut :)
ooooo we have a storm! :) such heavy rain, i'm the only one that likes storms in our house.
Hey everyone,
Just floating in for a minute with some news - it was raised earlier that there will be a fifth Andretti Autosport car at this years Indy 500 and thoughts as to whether it'd be JR Hildebrand or Franck Montegny. Well, in (kind of) a surprise decision, the fifth AA car will be driven by 47 year-old John Andretti. This will be Andretti's 11th Indy500 starting in 1988 until 1994 before a 13 year gap.
As of now, it looks like 40-plus cars will be attempting to qualify for the 33 grid field, with possibly two or three more entries.
Now some tea, before I head back to bed....
John Andretti?? I know he is family but why? Are they just putting him in the team to make Marco look better
No idea, but he will be doing the double-dip on the 500 weekend. If I had the choice between Hildebrand or Andretti, I'd easily take Hildebrand.
I can only assume J Andretti will be taking some personal sponsorship with him
If anyone wants some Chandhok freebies follow him on twitter and if you are number 8000
https://twitter.com/karunchandhok/status/11256083188
Howdy!
Lewis Hamilton has mended fences with McLaren a day after castigating his Formula One team for denying him a podium with their "fricking terrible" pitstop strategy at the Australian Grand Prix.
i didn't realise he said frickin'
http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKLDE62S1U620100329
Crofty and Ant apologised on 5 live after he said it
Hi Adie
Hi Adie
that's what i thought
I guess they misheard it too? I'm not sure. Unless they were just taking the BBC type of line of apologising for even that
I made one: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Accomodation
Sorry about the many mistakes. i hope I at least got the facts right. Feel free to correct where necessary
And people say modern drivers are too squeaky clean. You would never have heard James Hunt using language like that
I remember Lewis using the same expression at least once last year too on the radio
:)
Memories of Hunt's abuse of Arnoux at Monaco '89 comes to mind
:D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khA67-r5lSQ
"So, anyway..." :D
Hi again.
Productive evening shopping, hoovering, then a shower 'cos I felt knackered (I've felt tired all day).
(waves)
Thanks, lots of good info :) Wifi is good.
I was sort of thinking of maybe finding a local town to find a restaurant in for an evening if it doesn't cost too much.
That is well useful, thanks kathi.
I added my name. I take it this means I no longer need to send a direct message :)
My edit might have broken some formatting, I'll try to fix
Not at the moment no :)
I wrote the page three times because it constantly crashed. I should leave the wiki to RG and Christine
Using Firefox? Only browser it likes really.
As soon as I updated the page I'm sure it took away some line spaces, and when I add them back it takes them away again.
you're welcome.
Maybe I should add a Q&A section or something similar, so things don't get lost in the comments.
Oooh, same happened there. Thats odd?
It's OK again, I think
Em and Naomi are laying in my bed eating icecream and watching glee... i don't want to watch glee so am sitting in the study.... anyone around up to anything more interesting? lol
PING: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/29/episode-138-we-went-to-mclaren-and-i-touched-lewis’-car/
all I'm doing is listening to music. Such exciting lives we live :P
Ooh. Fail.
I am around but not doing anything interesting
I wish I was, but I'm doing the same as Em and Naomi.
you're laying in my bed eating icecream and watching glee??
ooooooo!!!!!
Well, eating penguins.
Wait for it.
PING: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/29/episode-138-we-went-to-mclaren-and-i-touched-lewis-car/
oh and they insulted f1 earlier... saying jenson and lewis were the same... they are meanies lol
Let me try now I have the correct link
PING
http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/29/episode-138-we-went-to-mclaren-and-i-touched-lewis-car
Give us the joke!
i like the wordpress fail means the url reads: "i went to mclaren and touched lewis"
:)
You beat me
I fixed it.
Yay for Debrief!! :D means I can listen to it on the train tomorrow, although I'm still gonna listen to it now.
*waits*..
yay!!!!! :D there could not have been a better time for the podcast!!
hehe yet again i've asked for something and 2 seconds later it's done! (loves) sidepodcast :)
Lewis and Jenson are the same? Never heard anyone even suggest that before
hehehehehe
oops
Why do seagulls fly over the sea?
..
.
.
If they flew over the bay the would be bagles
:)
I heart penguins!
Hehehe!
Yay for debrief!
I added the word car to the failed link and got to the right page before you posted the correct link but you got there first
You must have done it as I hit publish.
i think we could rip-off a quiz here...
i went to mclaren and touched lewis'... BLANK
I assumed it was just a typo problem and not that the actual url was wrong
ego?
wordpress is meant to swap pretty apostrophes for plain ones.

I see
#sameperson
we have to do this on the next panel!
Absolutely! I literally have never heard of a single guest in that clip..
speaking of quizes... it's been ages since the last sidepodpanel :( i liked listening to them :)
I can see it working really well.
overalls
(I thought of another one but then realised it was heavily laden with innuendo :) )
Definitely :D
Aww I miss sidepodpanel.
working on it
There needs to be a live server before they can be done though
Would they win a sidepodblank chequebook and pen?
i know i know... was just sayin... they are awesome :)
a chequebook wouldn't be #mfc. what would the equivalent be?
Not getting people credit cards.
..penguin. To see the joke.
Off topic....but how is Vettel at the top of the Autosport rankings?
Excuse me if I add the comment......"EH?!"
I KNOW!!!! (don't get me started...)
Because that's the name they picked out of the bag to get points
Apparently it wasn't an actual chequebook but a metal one. What kind of gameshow is this? :) I'm cracking up watching this, expecting it to be a spoof.. but its not. Great game but the execution in those days is hilarious!

For #MFC... maybe a Paypal.. thing
right now we just need buy wirecast, to stop the annoying woman telling us we only have a demonstration.
i think that maybe we want to be sure f1 won't suck eggs this year, before we part with that much cash. the server is cool though.
I was just thinking about listening to one while I sort out some blog stuff, perfect timing.
I'm torn though - do I want to know what you guys think before I write what I think?
did you know even Monopoly has gone #MFC? The new version of it has a credit card banking system instead of notes.
Plus you get, like, £2,000 for passing go. Inflation much!
There's a version that deals in millions.
I did! I want it but I have Monopoly on the iPod which is slightly more MFC.
What is this I don't even...
is it any good on the iPod?
And proper Monopoly :P
Yup!
there's a kentish/london version :) (hearts)
I reckon it's great on the ipod. I tend not to play it because I always get sucked into it for ages when I do...
...not good when you have to write a dissertation...
There's a Somerset one :)
Have you played Angry Birds? I've been a bit late coming round to it....but it is great!
I've been told that I should check it out but I dunno, not a fan of the genre. Plants vs Zombies is my limit with them types of games ;)
yay i saw it the other day... and didn't get it cause i thought it would be bad...
Tis worth getting :) although I have like, a bajillion iPod games now...
I finished it today. Now I've got to go back and try and get 3 stars on every level apparently.
heh I'm clearly going mad. I'm looking at nascar.com for the result for my game and where it says 'Dodge Motorsport' I thought it said 'Dodgeball Motorsport'
Is it really worth getting?
I played the lite version and wasn't convinced, but a colleague convinced me. It's probably the best 59p I've spent in a long time.
ooh, I'll give the lite version a go first and see.
so far the best i've bought is the Ferrari Gt racing game and loved it.
The sound effects make the game for me. The birds go "ow" when they miss their target
This makes no sense. None.
AT ALL.
As Vettel did not finish last year's race, he did not lose any points by retiring from the lead of last Sunday's grand prix,
Was last year's race held on the same weekend (I can't remember). The rankings are date-based not event-based.
Adie, I think you might have jumped that from the daly to the debrief
Oh. Blame it on stuff!
Or the quote, at least, even though I think you were referring to the mirrors. How confusing :)
Blame it on you then! :D
yay!! for the return of the awesome click to fade thing on big picture!
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/03/earth_hour_2010.html
Ok, that angry birds game is ridiculously addictive.
Oh no! The Yas Marina circuit suddenly became boring to look at.
The one thing it had going for it, gone!
yes it was. I understand the way they're working solely because it sounds exactly like the points system they use in tennis.
Lou, did you see? I've managed to create the page already almost all on my own :)
Joe said last night we saw a classic schumacher drive on sunday...... Just a pity it was a ralf schumacher drive.
:)
Hahahaha!
I love that!
And on that note I'm off guys. Laters!!
:D
Night mate.
See ya Adie
i forgot!! i'm sorry. naomi came round and distracted me :(
:D :D
naomi and em stole my laptop and made comments about glee on my twitter :( bad times.
No that's fine I didn't mean it like that :( I was just proud I only broke it a bit :D
My jaw dropped when that appeared in tweetdeck. :P
Its a decent show...
yay!! :D awesome it looks great! :) thanks Kathi :) makes me feel much better about things hehe:)
Oh joe is also doing a talk in monza. Who wants to come!
meeee!
only if you win the lottery!... ;)
And they haven't commented here?
Woo!
My desktop is now officially ready for the start of something awesome this weekend :)
i sent naomi home as i'm seeing her tomorrow and i need her to be awake... Emily is now in the shower. no doubt if she is feeling less ill she will comment.
Me too please. Even if he does one in Spa too.
And sorry, but I'm leaving the podcast until after I've done blogstuff, I'm male and can only cope with one set of words at a time, so music for now :)
half of it is right. the other half... hmmmmmm
aww, give him a chance!
I thought that was two weeks time, or is that Ashes to Ashes?
You sound like their mother
The Doctah! is back on this Saturday evening :D
Actually, it might be next week. I can't remember now
Awww, I don't wanna wait 2 weeks for Ashes to Ashes.
But yay for the doctor returning.
i'm feeling really grumpy this evening :( sorry. i'm often called people's mother... tis cause i care...
My new flatmate just told me she might move out. This time it really wasn't my fault ...
nooo... :( i (heart) david... plus i can't watch the one with the stone statues i hate them so so sooo much :(
:D
So now you need your 47th flat mate
Those pictures are awesome
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/03/earth_hour_2010.html
He said he wasnt pure yet about spa but is definitely doing new york monza and barcelona
Joe World Tour!
I assume sure not pure ?
:( I won't be here when she moves in. Maybe if she can make herself comfortable in the flat without me around, I won't scare her off that quickly :D
And the other 2 girls who turned up were from the grand prix corp who bought 15 tickets and didnt use 13 of them. The 2 girls only stayed about 20 minutes.
:D hehehe
No Newcastle? Disapointed...
Already?
:D
The stone statues in Blink are scary because there's no CGI, just good old-fashioned camerawork
Silly auto words.
i really really don't like them. It freaks me out so so soooo much. I'd be okay (maybe) if i was watching it with a dr who fan like lukeh.. but on my own -noooo way.
You're supposed to watch from behind the sofa. Then you're safe.
nooo :( if i watch it with someone i can be safe in the knowledge they will look after me.. on my own it's just scary.
Aww! Well I know who I blame, even though he didn't star in that episode, I shall continue to shake my first at this unnamed individual though...
i think if i certain actor was in the episode it wouldn't be so scary...
Good night everyone
night Kathi :)
Good night Kathi
Night!
night
Nighty night
@dank_ross
UK F1 viewers will have to switch mid-race to BBC 2 during this weekend's Malyasian Grand Prix. It being Easter Sunday and all that.
What a fantastc guy Joe is. I think he would have talked all night
I saw about this earlier. BBC seems adamant it *has* to be on BBC1 but I doubt putting it all on BBC2 wont confuse anyone, what an odd idea.
Why don't they just put the whole show on BBC 2? Surely that'd make more sense...
that's.... just odd.. i wonder if it will effect the red button? i hope they pick a boring moment to change ;)
OMG. That is insane
It's a bit awkward for anyone recording it
Red button should not be affected
Must be to make sure the viewers don't fall asleep.
In an unrelated matter, this is quite nice:
http://automobiliart.blogspot.com/2010/03/ronnie-peterson-quiet-storm.html
yay :)
What about the big blue button?
Right, bed, don't think I plugged this yesterday so I will now, night and lotsa love
That has already changed from being an oil transfer pump to being a fuel pump
Night RG
night RG
hullo everybody :)
Good evening. Feeling better?
you are awake :P
Oh hello :)
Hello Emily
yes thank you! have eaten a lot of ice cream and had a nice bath :)
oh Lukeh... if we are late tomorrow it's her fault... just so you know.
I'm already blaming her for when we get lost, I just feel bad blaming her for something else!
I'll just blame that damn Barrowman. But I've already blamed him tonight too!
I am great now since the blister on the tip of my toungue mysteriously vanished on Sunday. Had it for a week and it was getting bigger and sorer and then it disappeared. I don't think it could cope with my lack of sleep
hehehe she wants to buy a game.. and i think there are places nearer charing cross then paddington ;) will text you just before we get on the underground ;)
a blister on your tongue?! :S
ouch that seems painful. Jenson obviously cured it.. he's a genius you know ;)
Understandable. When you gotta buy a game, you gotta buy a game.
it's the one you two were chatting about...
Right on the tip of my tongue. Damned annoying because the bandage kept falling off.
:D
Ohhh I have that already!
#dissertationdistraction
Crazy. TV people just don't get it. They must have a big obligation mid-race to do that.
she was saying that she wanted it, and as she's been ill.. and naomi and i are kind. we decided we'd try get it for her so she can play it on the way home :)
Good evening podcast lovers
i'm watching a reply of Federer's match i already know the result but i keep finding myself thinking things like 'yay go Roger!! it will make Amy happy!!' lol
Is that an answer to a game of tennis?
It'll keep me amused on my train too, so it'll be in my bag all day
#confidential
Hi there
Here's something just for lou
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/genius-jpg
It looks like I didn't get the Film 2010 job :(
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8593066.stm
replay.. sorry. when i'm tired my dyslexia takes over. lol
did you apply?
I assumed they would come knocking after SidepodRadio
hehehehe :D
I'm gonna head to bed and watch Hot Fuzz :) I'll see you tomorrow lou and em for a super awesome day :D
Night everyone!
"Decaffeinated?"
Night Lukeh
They need a double act like you and Christine
night Lukeh! see you tomorrow :) xx
Night Lukeh
Ahhh Miss Claudia - what a wonderful young lady....
:)
em's just seen my jenson calender and noticed that although he has an almost perfect tan.. he has a slight faint/whitish patch on his chest almost the shape of a little ipod nano :D ehehehe
Night leavers and hello arrivals, while I was busy.
Now I did not expect that choice. Kermode's quotes are interesting..
Hehe.
night lukeh :)
I have a strong desire to visit the States very soon and pick up an iPad, while I'm there
*Must. Resist*
when is it coming to the UK
with the space cube
there should have been a question mark there... sorry, my typing/thinking is awful
sssshhhhhhhh
"Late April" is the official word
Deliveries have aleady sold out for the first 9 days in the U.S.
Pre-Orders limited to 2 per order and must collect before 3pm on the day
Still waiting to hear for definite.
Huh?
:(
It's annoying how much buzz there is already this week as they gear up for Saturday's launch
Andy, have you gone for 10.6.3 yet?
I usually wait a couple of days
i tried to explain this to her a moment ago, but all that came out was 'tiny space cube'...
Indeed. For those who want to know precisely when the iPad will arrive in the UK, go here to sign up: http://www.apple.com/uk/ipad/notify-me/
tiny space cubes in space.
:D
I did that, as did Giggles
We were both a little miffed when they emailed us when U.S. pre-orders started :(
Downloading it now
mine's installed. all good.
I'm grabbing the Combo as we speak and waiting for feedback
Are they for baby Borgs?
i'll be quiet about the space cubes now.
Space Kerb Sweeper
Nice
A planet about 60 billion light years away will be really upset with us in the distant future when the debris hits some of their equipment
:D
hehehe
especially because the piece of equipment was tuned to reveal the release date of the ipad. :( now they'll never know...
The space cube thing confused me because I thought you were talking about cube sats.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CubeSat
I heard the spacehack woman talking about them on a Dr Kiki show a few weeks ago. I love the idea of spachack
http://spacehack.org/
i just did that. i said all good ;)
Didn't realise the update included a 'can of air' ;)
that site is awesome. build your own satellite! ...lou we need one.
The Guided Tours will have to suffice, for now
Question for everyone here:
Is there a leading site to buy GP tickets apart from the official F1 site?
We really need a sidepodsat
it says "improve printing reliability". however, it hasn't fixed any of my printing issues.
People still print?
i'm just trying to get over the fact you said you want a space burial...
That sounds like a great idea!!
sadly. and snow leopard wastes a shed load of paper.
my dad does... :( he prints ALL of his emails... and then shreds them :( *cries*
What's wrong with that? Apart from the sail thing sending her out to ruin the satellites of someone 60 million light years away
O.o... but...
thank you! how cool does a space burial sound?
that sounds like me. irritating to the end ;)
I quite like the burn up on re-entry option ;)
What printing issues do you have?
Go to the website of the event.
Some people even have their ashes put in a firework rocket and go out with a bang but being blasted into space is better.
Oh FFS. Would he stop if he could read them on a portable device of some sort?
same as ever. light grey prints out black and "print more than one copy", prints one copy and then spits out blank pages. it's been broken since snowy and was fine in non-snowy. tis rubbish.
A la Gene Rodenberry
How does that work? Burial implies digging a hole in the ground.
How many envelopes does he use each month for his 'forwards'?
no, probably not... some he just likes to read... like letters, and others he likes to write all over and the file away... then shred. Not only does he waste my precious ink but he also wastes trees! :(
:D hehehe
They dig a hole in space. Or I suppose you could get buried in a black hole.
I've not had any problems. Sounds like a driver issue, but check this out:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3134
appreciate it, but it's not that. have given up hope. i just keep my fingers crossed every time a promised improvement arrives, but no dice.
Which printer do you have?
I apparently have been decoded:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_8593000/8593789.stm
Morning everyone :)
Giggles could also allow hyenas to recruit allies, for instance when one or two hyenas are outnumbered by lions fighting over the same kill.
Can you really? ;)
