Hello everyone, it’s Sunday, which means it must be my turn to welcome you to this lovely day. I can’t promise it will be the warm sunny weather we’ve been experiencing in the UK lately, but I’m sure the comments will be as friendly as ever. Continuing on a theme Lukeh set in Friday’s daily post I would like to express an extra special welcome to all of the Lurkers out there and invite you to join us in the glorious world of the Sidepodcast comments. David dropped by to say ‘Hello’ on Friday and I’m sure I’m not the only regular commenter who was delighted to see someone ‘de-lurk’. Hopefully we’ll see more of you in the comments soon. Just in case anyone is stuck for anything to talk about I’ve collected some links for you all;
- Although F1 appears to be in a sort of spring hibernation, the world of motorsport never stops and today promises to be another day of motorsports action. Yesterday saw the F3 race at Silverstone (which even Karun Chandock attended) and the Indycar race at Kansas (which many people live commented). Today is race day at Brands Hatch for the BTCC and I’m really excited about it. I’m not able to attend this weekend, but if anyone is, or went along for qualifying I’d love to hear how your day was!
- Moving away from motorsport for a moment Saturday might also be known as ‘Dr Who day’ for some, and two of our biggest Dr Who fans have written two very fabulous posts on yesterday’s episode, so please check out Christine’s and Lukeh’s thoughts on the Doctor's latest adventure in the rather scary ‘flesh and stone’.
- It’s Sunday, as I’ve already mentioned, which can mean only one thing- it’s time for another Giggles radio this afternoon! Last week’s can be found here for anyone who missed it. However If a two hour radio show isn’t enough, you can of course check out his latest goforodd podcast which is available here which is well worth a listen.
That’s about it for me today, I will leave you with the only piece of Formula 1 news I was able to find, which comes in the form of Mclaren’s Spanish GP preview in which Martin Whitmarsh tells us that Spain marks the ‘debut of an exciting new visual identity inside the garage, which will feature a completely new look.’ Sounds interesting, and I've been having a think about what this ‘exciting new visual identity’ is, perhaps its a new painting, or maybe even a huge cardboard cut out of Jenson? If anyone has any ideas please let us know in the comments. I hope you all have a lovely Sunday!
hullo lou's new daily :)
Yay's it's lou's new daily! :)
*waves at lurkers*
say helloooooo!
Upon lou's advice to make a to do list to keep me reminded, I decided to do so and put it in a place i'll never forget to read it
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q127/Lukehmuse/desky-16.png
Shave :)
train tickets to see me are 8th on the list!???!!!!
i like the idea for the list :) will you cross them off as you complete them?
hehe! if you need help with the database , just yell
Nice daily Lou.
Nice to see we had another de-lurker recently. Hi David since I missed you on Friday.
Anyone lurking just now probably has nothing better to do so pop in to the comments and say hello.
it's not chronologolical! *quickly swaps to top*
Oh I should really, yes...
Nice Daily, Lou.
New Go For Odd podcast, must remember to listen to that.
tis basically creating something to store user input details and display them for profile pages etc etc. Will let you know if I get any hair raising moments but it's looking OK at the mo.
:)
Is that even the write word? I'm awfully tired.
I mean it's not in timed order. I can't remember the word.
right, doh. zzzzz.
I think you were right anyway.
Chronological is the right word yep :)
oh...
moving on then, nothing to see here, folks...
sounds like your in the perfect position to think about Mclaren's new and exciting 'visual identity inside the garage' i wasn't kidding when i wanted ideas for what it is... lol :)
;)
Rocket red beards. That'll shock the paddock.
What are they identifying?
not a clue, i only know what Martin says in the GP preview.. i bet Amy knows.. she knows everything about Mclaren, she even knew JB was gonna be in Frome on Tuesday before me... lol
:D the same way Honda's bright green shorts did in 2008? :D
Maybe they are going to put Jenson's mechanics in one colour and Lewis's in another so they can tell the good guys from the bad guys
:D
Awwwwww
:D
I think it will be giant 'thumbs up' foam hands for every time Fernando drives past their garage
I didn't think you would be happy with Jenson's crew being the bad guys
That would be funny
Time for bed. G'night.
Aye, same here, football in the morning, ciao folks, lotsa love.
Whoever invented mahjong was a very cruel person
Night Lukeh and RG
who says it would be his side that were the bad guys?.. JB is leading the Championship doncha know ;) anyway... they aren't comparable to the awesomeness of Shov and Bono.. so i don't mind... lol
Night Lukeh and RG
I haven't played for years. My dad has us convinced he invented it and hand carved all the pieces while on one of his trips away with the navy. I cant remember how old I was when I finally worked that one out :)
*had us convinced
You saw Arthur Brown on "I'm in a Rock 'n' Roll Band!" just now, didn't you? ;)
/delurks
I feel sorry for Shov and Bono. They had years of misery at Honda then they finally have a good season and now they are stuck with a useless driver
hello sunday, hello lou's daily, hello month of the bicentenary...
I have become addicted again recently. I used to play it but gave up. I should have stayed like that
wohoo! :) hello :)
hullo lookingspiffy :)
Yay for delurking. I am not sure we could explain to Lou who Arthur Brown is.
Hi Guille.
What bicentenary?
200 years of the Argentinian revolution, May 25
For those who missed it this is Arthur Brown. His head is meant to be on fire
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLMjHy12eWo
the miserable years weren't as miserable as they could have been.. at least Jenson has a nice personality.... i haven't seen a single photo of them smiling this year...
a big difference from this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OPJHkOAXsc
I didn't know that. I don't know any Argentinian history.
I may be out for a bit for I am currently watching
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeV8h70CDrs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzGo4ml_BQc&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAD74kDV0DU&feature=related
:D
Actually 1810-1820 were very active years in Southamerica, not only in Argentina. Most of the countries will celebrate their 200 years during this decade (partially thanks to Napoleon...)
There are Star Trek cartoons? Who knew?
yep - made from 1973-74
used to be on sky every saturday morning at 10.30
That's weird. The show had been cancelled and the revival hadn't happened but they made cartoons
they made 22 episodes over 2 seasons to "complete the show's 5 year mission"
Interesting. I guess they were not shown here at the time
okay, bed time for me, night all! xx
Night Lou
They weren't shown in the UK until the '80's I believe. If Star Trek Animated has taught me anything, it's never trust odd looking blonde women with paralysing blue eyes
night lou
Interesting that people in Star Trek walk just like those in Scooby Doo
same company i believe
night lou
Home sweet home :D
I've had a very stressful night at work but it's all worth it. I had to call the police but I get a reward :D :D :D
good lord, what happened?
I caught someone committing fraud and managed to keep them hanging around long enough for the police to catch them. Now I get money, it's happy times :D
oh wow!!
well done you!
wow....
I bet the look on their face was priceless!
preventing fraud, active volcanos... man, it's been an exciting day. i should sleep.
until tomorrow.
YAY
Good night
Night Mr C
night mr.c
dinner time for me, see you later
Just watching "Nicholas and Alexandra" - young Tom Baker is wonderful and scary at the same time
:D
"Nicholas and Alexandra" is officially an amazing film. I could watch it again if I weren't so knackered.
i would say morning, but sensible people are not on sidepodcast at 7.30am. are they.
Hell, I'm only getting to bed - which is frankly silly
morning :)
Morning alex. am actually gonna live-comment giggles radio today. if i am not too shattered from running.
grrr while the boys were making up their minds about if they want to come to the league or not the cheap seats have sold out.
hurrah!
Good luck with the running :)
booo!
and the dearer seats only come in groups of 2 not groups of 4 :( no league for me :(
lowestoft to kings lynn in 1.5 hrs. home of marty brundle!
The Storm?
Kiwis v Kangaroos
Ahh, I saw that was on, its next friday?
But dont you think in a battle between a fruit and a marsupial there will only be one winner ;)
:P
tis indeed. I just want to go into the new stadium, but alas, it is not to be.
Grrrr. IT'S A BIRD.
A square stadium? In Melbourne? How odd!
Obviously no one told them they can't play AFL there or they never would have allowed it!
Morning all.
evening
No doubt someone has mentioned the MotoGP race today... coverage starts at 12.30 for those who are interested...
Afternoon :)
Morning guys!
Morning :)
Just watching the re-run of Indy on Sky and it is a strange experience to hear them talk about Sato...
Now let's guess what will happen with Taku in this race....
morning all, how is everyone today?
i had the strangest Jenson related dream last night, Christine and Mr C were standing with me at Spa waiting for the others to get back from somewhere, and Jenson walked past, recognised Mr C and invited the whole spc lot to watch the race from the mclaren pit garage...
Oooh. There is something Mr C isn't telling us, clearly!
Hahaha, how odd! Even more odd is that I had a dream involving Rubens last night...
So that's what Honda were doing with Earth Dreams...
hehe he and Jenson were getting on like they'd known each other for years. You weren't happy that he had never told you they knew each other :)
I woke up this morning totally confused though :)
That comment sounds like a Doctor Who episode....
Oooh an f1 Dr Who episode. Yes please. :P
That would be quite something!
:)
Tsk! I can't believe Mr C never told Christine!
:D
He is in so much trouble.
?
busted! ;)
#sorrymrc
wha?
There is no point in trying to deny it Mr C... We know all about your secret friendship with Jenson that you've been keeping from Christine all of this time because Jenson told Lou in a dream!
I wouldn't be surprised if that wave with Lewis was a sign to Lewis, "not now Lewis, I've got Christine with me", etc
;)
:D
wh.........
Jenson is British, Mr C is British. I am not British. I do not know Jenson. Thus Mr C does.
:D sorry.. i did say it was a strange dream..
:D hahaha!!!
he he he :)
Poor Mr C... He wakes up and suddenly this!
It all adds up though.
Mr C seems to be affected by a case of the the "what the's", I feel for him after suffering such confusion yesterday
now you know how confused i was when i woke up ;)
He can't argue with facts like these... The truth is out there!
erm...
Here's another one have we ever seen Mr C and Jenson in the same place? No... of course we haven't... They've been plotting this for years! Years!
It's poor Christine I feel sorry for ;)
hehehe he's not denying it though ;)
i stood right next to him at silverstone. i just forgot the battery for the camera.
I fixed your typo ;)
well... Mr C does always manage to get the best shots of Jenson...
Also there was a pub quiz.
Right now I must stop this sillyness and write my guest for giggles radio.
Swapping from one form of sillyness to another!
:D
:)
Martin is starting to slip into Ronspeak, It's the BTCC at Brands today on ITV4 so with the weather as it is there's worse ways to spend the afternoon. Glad I decided not to go this weekend not too great camping in the pouring rain. Better to watch the days racing from the comfort of my sofa there's the whole card on ITV4 between 11.30 & 18.00 Ginetta G40 Junior Championship, British Touring Car Championship, Ginetta G50 Cup, Elf Renault Clio Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup, & Formula Renault UK Championship.
maybe that's why you weren't on Jenson's team?.. cause it would have been too obvious that they were friends? ;)
that is a lot of racing!
*waves at Steven Prussia* Hey Steven! looking out of my window i can see it works out for the best that i didn't go today too. I don't fancy getting my cameras all wet today. I do love the fact the BTCC day is packed with so much racing
Also I forgot over on Eurosport there's WTCC with F2 from Marrakesh, wouldn't mind being a tent out there.
oh wow... how are we meant to watch all of this racing! :)
Hi Steven Prussia!
Hey everyone, I'm freezing and was kinda hoping for the weather that seems to be at Brands today.
oh Christine, not sure if you noticed but it seems that Karun seems to live in a perfectly normal house :) love it!
http://twitpic.com/1k8ltt
Not quite a millionaire yet then.
Why does Timo always have the best looking breakfasts?
http://twitpic.com/1k988a
I'm hungry.
I never took Gascoyne to be the type to have donkeys on the wall.
http://twitpic.com/1kb7qh
we're just having lunch. Or rather Katherine is making lunch now.
so amy are you going to stay up for the radio show today?
I am eating some chips while I watch the Logies. They are so cringeworthy, they make Eurovision look very classy. But by this time of night everyone accepting an award is very, very drunk and make fools of themself. The last winner dropped an F-bomb in her speech :D
unfortunately I don't think I'll make it #verytired
I will catch up with the replay tomorrow though :)
ah shame. I think you'll really like today's show.
ooh you're making it very tempting!
And in idiotic news, the TV network for some reason doesn't show this award ceremony live so they make the attendees promise not to tweet any spoilers, but of course they do anyway. And Danni Minogue spoiled the "gold" winner 30 minutes ago and she's not even in the country. Fail.
I mean it is the middle of the night. But I think you might enjoy some of the choices.
does that mean 90s pop? :D :D
oohh dear. lol
if by oohh dear you mean AWESOME you are correct.
ah i'm wrong then ;)
I'm going to blame it on you being too young to understand. But then someone older than me will come along and agree with you and my theory will be ruined. RUINED.
Aaaaaand I'm back! 2 hours travelling, 45-odd minute race. Set a new PB, 43m41s!
Came 176 out of 1671 runners. Good stuff!
http://www.sportsystems.co.uk/ss/resultsEvent.htm?eventId=362
Page 6 for my name! :D
And he's British about the weather too! :D
hehehe i lived through the 90s..I may have been young, but i think there was a reason i didn't listen to much music back then... i remember being the only girl in my class who hated the spice girls and didn't know who the backstreet boys were... i never really fitted in with people's music tastes back then... lol
wow good stuff TM!
Wooo, go you!
#nothere
you would have been alive, but you wouldn't have been at prime teenybopper age :D
true story, i was 8 in 1999... teenager i was not ;)
Oh gods, you're as young as my brother. Scary thing is he's engaged at the princely age of 19! I don't even have a girlfriend as yet!!!!
I think the prime 90s pop year was 1997, I have had 'songs from 1997' as a livejournal interest for many years. No one else on livejournal shares this with me :D
I am now trying hard to stay awake, I shall entertain myself with kindle for an hour to pass time :D
I'm 18 and the idea of getting engaged at the age of 19 scares me..
giggles is such a bad influence.. getting you to stay up so late ;)
I get to "sleep in" tomorrow, I don't have to get up til 8!
#sorryamy
you could pass the blame onto the tennis? #blamerafa
The crazy thing is that it's Midnight now?
That could be mistaken for a certain Mr Benitez. #blamerafa
its Monday!
ah well... that's alright then ;)
Carp, that must throw you right out....
I only know who he is because my tennis fan friends are also football fans and they have to mention the sport when they start tweeting about Rafa and Nando or I get confused, thinking they mean Nadal and Verdasco.
it certainly makes Friday feel like a really, really, really long way away. Thankfully my week is slightly broken up because I am in training all day Wednesday so I'm not actually doing any work.
ooh, tennis is just starting. Perfect timing!
Having Monday off as a Bank Holiday has really thrown me. I'm still in autopilot mode doing stuff I'd normally do but now I realise I have an extra day to catch up on sleep. That NEVER happens!!!
I had Monday off last week and it was lovely. I want 3 day weekends every week, but sadly I only have one more until Christmas :( Stupid public holidays all being at the start of the year :(
Yeah, only 1 in the 2nd half of the year before Xmas. Yet there are 4 in the 1st half.
I find the trick to getting over the 6 months with no public holidays is to take 5 weeks off work and travel to the other side of the world :D
Ah, see I only get 2 weeks off work cos I need to take the other 2 weeks off at a couple particular points in the year.
Remind me to do the SidepodGrandPrix next year!!!
I only have a weeks leave owing, that will not stop me!
:D
I meant to put that in here right...
Ping: http://sidepod...live-giggles-radio-n/
Hello, folks!
Even if it's been an absolutely manic week for me, there's always time for Giggles Radio. :D
afternoon.
i must go to bed, but i leave you with this link of cuteness:
http://babiesmakingfaces.com/2010/04/27/funny-baby-photos-cat-pillow-helps-preclude-pet-allergies/
Now trying to draft a blog post, and wondering whether it would be better as an SPC voicemail..... thoughts?
A guest post?
Tempting, I'll send it across later tonight or tomorrow and see if it washes.
Coooooool. What's it about?
Summary: the trials of staying away from F1 on Grand Prix weekend (when you're forced to).
Ah, sounds very good!
Yeah, might have to re-word a couple passages though while it's a draft. They're a bit abrupt! Some of it's still in my head too.
Look forward to it :)
Cheers, no pressure eh? :D
Evening all
Evening squire.
Seems like everyone has exploded from the awesomeness of giggles radio :)
*waves* i'm around, just frantically trying to finish all my work.
ahh understandable. :)
Hi Lukeh. How's it going?
you're always frantically trying to finish all your work ;)
ninja sarcasm!
it's been a frustrating family day, and I missed radio giggles :( could be worse though I guess. Must watch the replay of radio giggles!
Having fun at Chateux giggles? :p
Always. Giggles is cooking and it is baffling Mr C. Big surprise.
*cleans glasses* omg it is actually you. hello oh mean one ;)
Hehehehehehe.
i may be revising psychology tomorrow... just to warn you ;)
:D hehehe
hehe i thought i'd pop up just to keep you on your toes. ;D
you mean procrastinate? and you didn't think to pop by during giggles radio? tut tut ;)
Ooh please don't make me feel any more guilty knowing you have lots of work to do and I am potentially wasting a day for you :(
*hides just in case*
I had to move, and I'm still writing. Be patient, it's a work of art.
hehehe you're not wasting a day at all! don't be silly ;) x
procrastinate, and be mean to you. win/win :)
and was busy irritating my mum during giggles radio, sorry :( it was worth it though!
Ironically my mum was irritating me during radio giggles being on.
(And my brother. and my sister. And my other brother. And his friend.)
sundays + family = endless irritation all round :/
haha
ooo which reminds me my dad might have a car for you... possibly...
i didn't know you had 2 brothers.... ooopss.
:O do tell.
one of his friends is buying a new car, and giving her old car to her son... and he's looking to get sell his car... tis a little Corsa.. Dad's gonna ask her about it on tuesday. will get back to you if it's the right price and insurance group for you :)
your dad has his uses ;D
hehe that sounds awesome, say ty to him for me for taking an interest in my desperate cheap car searchings. have decided if i don't find one by the end of this month i'm just going to steal yours.
yep, only when it comes to cars though ;) i think it's in your price range..i'll bug him about it.
hehehehe seems fair, chances of me remembering to book my test and another driving lesson in the next month are literally next to none.. my poor car only gets the occasional run about when i can persuade mum to come out with me.
it's decided then, i'm hijacking it. ;)
you'll get there in the end, just have to get these bloomin a level out of the way first. and on that note, 4 weeks of school left :D :D :D
4 weeks???!!! that is scary...
i think we've almost taken over the comments with our chat of cars and alevels :D
hehehe sorry sidepodcast. it's a sunday afternoon anyway, everyone is eating/digesting/watching antiques roadshow ;)
Nah, it's hilarious to read! Carry on. :D
hehehe i'm not sure many people are around anyway ;)
Is that thing still going? I thought Fiona Bruce killed it off!
It's OK, I'm just trying to get a mysql server working and operationaland installing apache, phpzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
sorry, I appear to have fallen asleep from the boredom of my own typing.
I was just lurking enjoying reading the conversation...
no lurking!!! have you read the daily today? ;)
Ubuntu and LAMP should be enough.
will trade you my revision notes on azo dyes...-_-
it should but notice the last part of my setence to describe why it's too much effort ;)
hehehe okay, so Em... we need to buy some ball dresses... but i have no time to go shopping... suggestions? lol
I have ;) And contemplating what to write in tomorrow's.
There are Windows LAMP implementations. Portableapps has one I believe.
wow both of those appear to be in a different language..
urgh don't mention it, hannah poppy and me are supposed to be making the trip to bluewater tomorrow but we conveniently forgot the rest of the south east will be doing that as well....
Oh my gods Lou, you have Google Shopping at your disposal and you can't search for ball dresses?
Or there's eBay....
that's my problem exactly!
have you see the f2 crash?
hahahah! fun times for you! I would force Lukeh to look for dresses with me in London but a) they will be stupidly expensive and b) i get grumpy when i go shopping.
I did, spectacular would be an understatement...
the idea of paying lots of money for a dress on the internet which might arrive and may look awful on me fills me with terror.
i know. i envision us, the m25, 400 billion other people, and hannah's driving skills. hmm.
Force!!
Could you make one (knowing that you have expert textiles skills)? You could put F1 cars on it & everything...
hehehehe well at least she's driven on a motorway now... she wont be panicing ;)
What about the sidepodcast Amazon store?
i'd be forcing myself to go too?
Didn't even know there was a race
erm... i can make a textiles piece, but not a dress i'm afraid.. but a ball dress with f1 cars on it would be awesome.
Fair point :)
It could look just like the wedding dress from Vicar of Dibley but with F1 cars
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptmg3Q0sqWI
in that theme, i may just hire a darlek costume for the ball.
Linkeh?
Non-onboard camera one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaC3OKZ-FkI
like this one??????
http://www.bbcprograms.com/pbs/catalog/vicarofdibley/images/0216vica.jpg
See how that would stand out. Especially once you get racing cars and Jeson pictures on it
oooo!! hehehehe doooo it! do you think i can turn up in jeans, a t-shirt and flip flops?... do you think anyone would mind? alevels have taken away my urge to dress up and be social for an evening..
Jeson? ;)
i don't want to stand out though.. if it was gonna have f1 cars on it.. they would be one... and it would be very subtle but pretty :)
Wow, that's some incredible stupidity from the following-soon-to-be-vaulted driver. You can't get that close to a car's gearbox in the crux of a braking zone.
That is a huge accident. Launched off the back of one car and cleared another two
just extend your textiles exam piece a little ;)
actually maybe you should dress up as one of those angels?.. cause the multi coloured darleks are a little silly.
hahaha! what and then wrap it around me?
Go as a weeping angel, get some grey crayolas and if you cant be bothered to dance it's a win win situation
If you want a Dr Who theme, wear a blonde wig, jeans, pink t-shirt & a blue jacket & go as Rose ;)
:D best idea ever.
:D
i would have to go in a stripy suit, 3-D glasses and converse if i was going with a dr who theme :P
please do it, Semple's face would be such a picture!!!
hehe yes, and then find you a helmet. we could customise your shoes with little aerodynamic flappy things....
:D :D :D :D
'aerodynamic flappy things..' :D ehehehehe :D
I think shoes with aerodynamic flappy things could start a new fashion
Well I have a pinstripe suit, 3d glasses in one of my DVDs and converse
Although it's a dark navy suit, not a brown one :(
i now want a pair :D as long as they aren't dumbo flugel esque (link for em- http://www.formula1.com/wi/full/ta_article/ta_article_527.jpg ) then i'm good :)
But that would make them Honda-ish and give Christine another reason to sa dumbo flugel
if it would bring back the debrief for christine to say dumbo-flugel i would totally have 'earth car' shoes! :)
aw :(
hhehe!
....dumbo flugel?!
The sticky up aero flappy things on the top of the nose
With the big red arrow subtly pointing at them
hehe you could ask Jenson to give you the names of some people at brackley who could help for me ;) seeing as you're such good friends with him ;)
grrrr
Christine named the aero things on the 2008 honda 'dumbo flugel' i can't even remember why now, but it kinda stuck. But the Brawn didn't have the dumbo flugel in 2009 so she hasn't been able to say it for a while :) lol
:P hehehe i always have odd dreams, but that was particularly strange, i'm going to blame the lack of interesting f1 news ;)
i've just been informed that dumbo flugel isn't what i thought it was, however, kat has pointed out that the honda nose does look a bit like a goats head.
any idea what that might be in german?
what did you think dumbo flugel was?
goat is Ziege i think... and head is Kopf... so erm... Ziege den Kopf?
doesn't have the same ring to it..
What did you think a dumbo flugel was?
Ziegekopf according to babelfish
lose the 'den' and it works: ziege kopf
we need Kathi :)
but.... dumbo-flugel!!!! it was the only good thing the Ra108 had!.. :P
other than a lighter strapped to the side of the cockpit... that could have ben the RA107 though..
i'm so confused.
:) :) :)
What's confusing you?
So Jenson and Rubens in the cockpit don't count? ;)
We've just had a rather confusing conversation but we have finally got to the bottom of it - Mr C didn't realise that Dumbo wasn't German for elephant. Now we're all on the same page.
He needs educating on classic animated films, and the new animated CGI stuff.
He must know about Walt Disney's Dumbo
hehehehehe :D
annoyingly the german for Elephant is Elefant...
See:
basically.. in 2008 f1 cars had a stupid amount of flaps and aero things, so many that we had to think of names for them... dumbo flugel was the name for honda's horn things :)
erm......well..... ermm.... no they don't count :D
ah, okay :)
:) it was desperate times for honda fans ;)
Desperate times for Honda.... ;)
Right, I am now going to play bumper-cars online with other mad folk.
Laters!
Byeee
Good evening :)
I made it to Silverstone as you may have seen from the twitpics. Sorry I wasn't commenting but it was enough to switch between the camera app and Gravity as well as juggle the phone and the actual camera.
Hiya pat good day at silverstone?
Hello again everybody! Hi Steven!
Wow! I've been named in the daily post!
I'm feeling very important, like I'm leading some kind of movement! :) Thanks Lou!
I hope to meet your expectations! :P
Yep, more of a half-day really after my silly mistakes, but yes it was good to be trackside again. It was very cold and windy though, but I'm glad the rain fell when I was driving and not when I was standing outside.
I saw a tweet about Mr & Mrs C going to Chateau Giggles?
evening everyone,
what goes on?
Hi David,
We always love when people de-lurk so you are meeting expectations. ;
:)
They were on Giggles Radio.
Hi. I just got in the door and I'm wondering food to have because I'm starving
Hi David
David, tell us about yourself :)
Hi Leigh. It has been quiet for a while. Giggles Radio was great but since then it has been quiet-ish
Hi Pat, Did you go to Silverstone in the end?
Helllo de-lurking David, Pat and leigh
Hi Steven
Hi RG
I did. It was cold. I very nearly turned back when I got to my estimated 2 hours and realised I was still an hour away. I must have been thinking of Thruxton...
David!!! hello! twas a pleasure to give you a mention, we love new commenters here :) welcome to spc :)
Oh lovely
What was on at Silverstone today? GTs?
Hello :)
Hello. It's early for you to be here. Not working?
the chippy was shut, was looking forward to that :(
hey
FIA GT1 with British F3
Hi
Hullllo
Hi Pat, Hi Steven. This is really a real-time comment chat.
Well.. what can I tell you? I'm 25. I live in Argentina. I love F1 with passion. (I have to get up early all the race sunday! except Brazil race).
And I'm software developer.
I realised I needed to get to a racetrack having not been for ages. And I wanted to see the new bit. Glad I did.
What's the new section like?
That is quite the passion. And Mr C will love you for the software developer bit especially :) Welcome to the comments! :)
There are almost always people chatting here.
Another Argentinian. I am sure Guille will be happy to have someone from from the same company,
country not company
Yep! Are you on here? http://sidepodcast.com/realtime/
Good stuff, apart from getting up early.
Company??
Argentina PLC??
this might help
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Realtime+Doohickey+Step+by+Step
Sometimes I work in the daytime :D
Surely not. Did you get something to eat at 2am this morning?
Sadly no. I eventually fell asleep and forgot about it.
Oh! It's nice to hear that there is another argentinian here.
And also Sorry for very bad english... :P
...and how can I reply for some of your comments? I saw that you added in circles the comments that you're replying. How do you that?
I've got mixed feelings about it. Village is a good little braking zone which makes overtaking. The short section to the loop is wide enough for two abreast but perhaps they are carrying a little too much speed for it.
The car on the outside at Village becomes the car on the inside at the Loop, several drivers were tempted to lunge for the closing gap but wisely backed out of it apart from one F3 guy who spun his opponent around. I think it is too tight for actual passing - but if its job is to trip someone up for the run down Wellington then I think it does it very well. I didn't actually see Brooklands in race conditions but it seems from the circuit commentary that several tried a move there.
Probably the next best option. Doesn't even involve going round the supermarket in your PJs
What I mean by this, is the guy on the outside of the Loop cuts across to take the apex or at least narrow the gap so the guy on the inside has to back out.

Your English looks perfectly good to me
Ohh I see!
Really? Well.. thanks!
What about yourself?
I hope my English is getting better ;)
No, no... :)
Tell me something about you.
y sidepodcast existence is covered on the wiki but that page is out of date so I best add an update to my list of things to do
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Steven+Roy
There was an M at the start of that sentence but it disappeared
Has everyone else gone to sleep?
It does seem rather quiet.
Still here, just writing up the daily... if anyone has anything to plug just yell...
I was just getting a cup of tea and getting some food cooked (just waiting on the oven). Silverstone has more than track work to do - the food vans are shocking. Cold overpriced food and lukewarm tea.
I'm doing an update on my site at the mo
:)
Some of you may have missed the F2 crash that was mentioned earlier. Watch the right mirror from about 1 minute 10 seconds.

It is ridiculous that you can't get decent food at any track but you have to wonder how it can be so bad the same week they had a big press event.
Ohh.. it's very appropriate!
Thanks for your help, Steven!
haven't seen the race yet, but am hoping to catch it later
holy moly...
I was disappointed because they've cleaned up the appearance of the vendors. They aren't like some white-painted roadside greasy-spoon hut. Appearance-wise they look welcoming, they've got friendly people, they're offering more than just your average little burger (quality bun, decent burger, or a selection of rolls). So they are better, and at the back of Luffield there is a good selection if you want something different. They just need to it to be warm and reasonably priced. And stay open until after the last race has ended.
Noproblem. We like to add people to our community here. This is one of the few places on the internet where you can discuss F1 without it ending up with fans of one driver arguing with fans of another about which one is the greatest driver ever. We also have conversations on lots of other topics.
During race weekends there are people her live commention on all sessions.
Blimey, lucky guy
When I first saw the video I assumed the camera was onboard the car in the accident so I kept looking at how close it was getting to other cars and didn't watch the mirror at all. Then all of a suddent this thing came flying over the driver's head.
Where's ITV-F1 when you need it..?
This is the other angle on the F2 crash showing how it ended

i'm around... still working and buried under a pile of history books but i'm here... i can't help thinking i'm so very stupid...
Lou, you are not stupid. A levels are hard but once you finish them you never need to think about them again.
Try doing one of your countdowns to the date you are finally free of school and it won't seem so long. Don't think about how long you have been doing it. Think about how little longer you have to do it for.
hehe.. yes, that's very true. I saw it everytime in one spanish blog that I follow.
Yes, I often follow the live comments. The next time I will comment surely. ;)
that is a really good idea.
Problem is i stand the chance of getting some good grades in both textiles and psychology... i enjoy them and am not really struggling much with them.. however i've used this weekend to try and redraft this history coursework... and it's not going to be totally finished and redrafted to the standard he wants. I'm not realistically looking at a good grade for history anyway, and i feel like i've wasted this time because i don't think my coursework will be good enough to get into the next level of marks. I should have used the time to complete my textiles, and revise more for my psychology mock. I feel like i've put my other subjects in danger.. and i feel stupid for not prioritising.
wohoooo!!!! :D ooo i have a question for you....do you have a favourite driver/team?
have checked my countdown... it's 60 days till goodwood, which is a few days after my last alevel exam.. :)
Good. It's very useful for us to have people in different countries because sometimes one country's TV/radio commentator will make a point the others miss.
Remember what you were told in your first driving lesson. If you make a mistake forget it. You can't go back and change it so don't waste time worrying about it. You may find having spent a weekend on history will let you go back to your other subjects with fresh eyes and enthusiasm so even if your history doesn't improve the time may help your other subjects
Don't forget to tell us the countdown every day. I am sure Christine won't mind this countdown
WHat a great number to start a countdown at and only just over an hour before it is 59. See how fast the days go with a countdown.

How did I know before even finding the link on Yahoo! News that Ricardo Texiera was going to be involved? He seems to be a walking trouble/bizarrity magnet when it comes to motorsport...
Pleased everyone came out of it OK though.
I don't think I have heard of him before. What else has he done to earn that reputation?
mm,, not really. Obviously my favourite driver was Lopez, but you know that happened with him. ):
I like Alonso, Vettel (and I would like to Schumi start to improve his performance!).
Maybe Ferrari is my favourite team.
I like the F1 race in general.
:) i would count down until i'm on study leave, but that will make me panic about exams. i much prefer counting down to Goodwood. lol
Steven, you are awesome. thank you for cheering me up, and helping me see sense in all my times of panic. :)
crashed... a lot
It's just like setting an alarm clock fast. Makes sense and achieves what you want it to do.
I try to be awesome ;)
Was Lopez the driver that nearly signed... or did sign with USF1? before they... erm... realised they just had an empty factory and a toaster?..
wohoo for loving f1 in general :) Ferrari do have Rob Smedley though, so it's a though competition. :)
We don't have many Ferrari or Schumacher fans here. I think Journeyer who is form the Phillipines is the only one but he is enthusiastic enough to make up for that.
There are quite a few Alonso and Vettel fans though
:D the best thing about the summer is it's already filling up with lots of brilliant things, it's just getting there :)
Reminds me... whatever happened to that the fin Argentine stalwart Esteban Tuero?

Look at it this way - it's excellent practise for university and working, where you will have lots more prioritisation decisions to make. Next time you have a prioritisation decision to make, you will have this weekend in your mental databank to help you. That on its own would be enough to make this weekend's exercise worth the while (and therefore not stupid).
Also, the way A-Level grades work, if you improve a third of a grade in each of your coursework and two papers, that's worth a whole level on your final result, which is the only one most people will care about. Depending on your precise current level, a third-of-a-grade on your coursework may be enough on its own. The coursework may not be to your teacher's standards but sometimes compromises have to be made. If he demands you re-do it again, feel free to stand your ground - politely - and tell him you're prioritising subjects where your marks are closer to grade boundaries.
He's doing one of the touring car series back home, I'm not sure which one.
Last I heard he was doin touring cars in TC2000.
He signed with the team. Argentina government will put money on that. It was a very big disappointment for us.
I don't think I have heard of him before. What else has he done to earn that reputation? {Comment #398}
You haven't heard of him because he is an embarrassment to the lower formulae. He was the first bloke in two years to qualify outside the 107% mark in a GP2 race (Monaco 2008; he was not allowed to start), has been involved in a number of silly collisions (usually his fault), been slow and generally depended on his dad being wealthy enough to try to start A1GP in order to stay in motorsport. Seriously, I don't understand why anyone would seriously take him on unless it was to bridge a gap in finances!
Thanks Alia, i'm not looking at a very good mark for history anyway, and he has to send the coursework off on tuesday anyway. he's given us what he calls is a 'last chance' cause he knows we can do better... i know i could probably get a good grade in it if i had more time and no other subjects.. cause i can write perfectly good essays but for some reason this coursework has just totally stumped me. lol
I saw the surname and thought about A1GP but I figured if it had been his son I would have known about him
Oh that takes me back...
The weekend spent on History should have improved that coursework though? Maybe you won't get a higher grade but it'll be a better 'quality' of the grade you were going to get, plus you've learned how to reorganise lots of words to a deadline

You're welcome, lou. Sounds like a pretty nasty coursework item then :( Hopefully this will mean you will find the questions on the exam easier than you expect because A-Levels are supposed to be balanced...
Yes, he is in competing in touring cars. But I think that he isn't making good performance.

Ricardo's rubbishness meant that any attempt to do PR based on his name was bound to backfire. Staying quiet is probably for the best...
i do vaguely remember there was some odd story around why he left F1 - i believe he issued a statement announcing his retirement and all.
Odd considering he was only 20...
Nice to see someone with that kind of background fail. Too many average drivers have decent careers because of their connections and not their ability.
My surname is german (Wasinger), so I think because that I like german drivers.

According to grandprix.com, the reason for retirement was most likely because Esteban injured his neck in a crash with Tora Takagi in the final round of the 1998 season. Racing drivers have bounced back from worse, but as Michael Schumacher proved, neck injuries are tricky things to predict and maybe Esteban didn't want to take the chance or had already been told the injury would preclude future high-level racing.

True, though I would argue Ricardo isn't quite at average level yet/ever (delete as applicable) - it seems to take an awfully large talent deficit to overcome an excess of money...
I am surprised you are not a Mercedes fan then
:D
Ladies and gentlemen,
it may be a little late in the evening, but it is time for a Doctor Who DVD mixed with some tea and chocolate ice cream
I'm thinking "Tomb of the Cybermen"
:D
It's true! I don't know. My mother is Italian descend, so maybe I like Ferrari for that! ;)
Time to head off, have a fun bank holiday everyone. Night!
Night
If you have Italian ancestors you have to support Ferrari.
