It's quite incredible that you can clearly see the whole outline of the car with half a tree in the way.

hehe really? i remember seeing a few f1 pics (maybe taken by Darren) where he's looking through something but only the car is in focus.. either that or a dreamt it (equally possible).. that's what i was thinking when i was lining up the shot anyway.

Christian Horner's open letter hasn't quite done the job he expected. He and Marko are getting slaughtered on their own website. Comments are still coming in and are almost universally negative.

    I can happily change that:

Red Bull, thanks for taking each other out. What a decision I must say. Now nobody can laugh at us for not having a point. If thats your plan in future, then I'm all for it, just make sure no Sauber is nearby. Cheers, RG.

And some nice lookin pics there lou

When Lukeh does your website it may be worth trying. People can be convinced of something's value by the most obscure things. They see professionals watermarking photos so they equate watermarks with professionals and value. Has to be worth a shot

that style line affect hover. so you could add it to the non-hover element, or remove it from that one.

Just realized: even if Soderling beats Rafa in the final, Rafa will gain plenty of points at Wimbledon, so he may still be #1 after that anyway.

Ooh simply by recharging my vodafone balance I am in the draw to win a trip for vip mclaren tickets to silverstone valued at $30000. I didn't even know they were having a competition. Cross your fingers boys and girls! The only thing that can beat an f1 trip is a free f1 trip :D

  • Amy02/06/2010 at 02:08

Root for Soderling! I don't care if Rafa is #1 in a few weeks, with no points to defend it is inevitable. I just want Roger to beat Petes record!

I had this plan where I was going to be in bed at a reasonable time. Failed.

NASA TV just announced that the Soyuz would land in 12 minutes so since I have never seen one land bed can wait

  • Steven Roy02/06/2010 at 03:26

I hate NASA TV. They are as incompetent as the Red Bull Racng damage control team. After reading everything I could on tonight's landing and having NASA TV live for three hours they have just announced two minutes before the landing that they expect to have live video 15 minutes AFTER the landing. I know it is dark and I wasn't expecting much but when they keep saying that the Soyuz has been sited etc I expect them to be able to point a camera at it. That isn't rocket science.

    NASA TV FAIL.

Hi Ian, for the moment they have decided to focus on other things as they weren't enjoying the podcasts anymore. They still do the 'Aside with Joe' podcasts though - and these are always worth a listen if you haven't heard them before.

Anyway, they explain what's happening in more detail here: http://sidepod...0/04/10/downshifting/

@RubberGoat - many thanks I hadn't found that article. Very sorry to hear this, as a lifelong F1 fan I only discovered Sidepodcast just before the season started! I was really enjoying it, especially the Digests, and then they're gone :-(

    Aren't Force India known for being a little behind on payments? Joe says this is more about money than about IP... {Comment #143}

Force India have a culture, dating back to the early Jordan days, of not paying until they absolutely have to and running on the edge of the financial envelope. I have no doubt that money is part of the equation. It's not just the cashflow of the present in question, but effectively establishing to suppliers of the future what happens if they don't comply with the agreed terms. In other words, such cases can help ease cashflow in the future as well as in the present.

Nonetheless, I don't think Force India would have brought Lotus the team or Bridgestone into it unless they believed they had sporting cause. Spying cases involving multiple F1 teams have proven very complicated in the past due to FIA regulations concerning such behaviour and a civil court would only need to prove that information was passed between the wind tunnel and its parent company (both of which Force India are suing separately under spying charges) in order for a substantial sum to be extracted. This is especially the case when you consider Force India appears intent on pursuing Lotus on the basis of unintentional copying of IP.

Remember this is the same team that ended up getting a payout in arbitration to compensate for Toro Rosso using Red Bull's car back in 2007, a case it had started long before "spying" became a fashionable term in the paddock. There's an issue of consistency here - if Force India considers copying of other teams' components wrong once, it has to hold that line consistently or lose face. This situation started in September last year and Force India's first press release indicating that it was going to take people to court on the matter was back in November, so the length of time this has been going on indicates that a lot of careful preparation has gone on. This is not a casually-pursued case. Contrast with the Vodafone case when they went from first announcement to losing the court case in ten weeks flat.

In addition, I think there's a certain amount of bad blood and balance-redressing involved here - on at least three sides (Force India, Aerolab/Formtech and Gascoyne). The split between Force India and both the other parties was acrimonious and I got the impression it wasn't all money-related, especially since Aerolab/Formtech got involved with Force India on Gascoyne's advice in the first place.

In short, I think this batch of cases is about quite a few things, of which money is only one - at least from Force India's perspective.

In fairness to Tilke, I do think he's critisced too much, Malaysia isn't that bad and Turkey somehow produced a good race. His Aragon circuit is apparantly very good as well, so, maybe its too early to knock him down.

Of course there are some tracks which are nigh on terrible .

yes :( I want her to win but it's suddenly looking not good :( After storming through the first set (just like Roger) she was up in the second set (just like Roger) She had match point an hour ago! (just like Roger had set point in the third) but threw it away (just like Roger)

Dementieva and some Italian lady whose name I always forget. None of the four have ever won a slam before though so either way it'll be a new winner which is always nice.

I believe they may also have some driver management partnerships in the pipeline too, starting with young Mitch Evans - http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2010/03/27/mark-webber-to-mentor-mitch-evans/

  • Leigh O'Gorman02/06/2010 at 15:36

Why not? It's easy to forget that Horner himself was a fairly mean driver right up until F3000 and he has the managerial skills to make it work. Webber can bring a lot to the table in terms of driver coaching as well.

it really depends on when you signed, i heard that one driver signed really early and it cost him 1 million, because of the lack of interest with a couple months to go the prices dropped dramatically, which is always the case, its just a case of whether you take hte risk of not getting a deal at all

I had a good time. I will admit to preferring Newark because it's slightly more challenging, but Amen Corner is better for beginners. Given that Dad's never karted before and my brother has only done two karting sessions before, this is a good thing.

I came 3rd of 6th and fastest out of my family. Spun once at Turn 2 (the hairpin) but nothing particularly spectacular. Managed to astonish my brother with producing an average laptime about a second-and-a-half quicker than his average despite needing five laps to get used to having a pedal on each side of the car again. Happily I didn't get pulled over or penalised for use of two pedals simultaneously or erratic driving.

I don't think the motive is revenge in Dad's case (more that he's excited about improving about 15 seconds in the course of 20 minutes and wants to do more) but it looks like we'll kart together again in a week or two. Everyone's really keen to do it again.

I love Karting with my family, even though the gap between us is huge, it's great fun. I do need to buy a rib protector though, I'm so thin my back bruises really easily! Karting tends to make me ache for a good few days afterwards.

It certainly is. Dad managed to get everyone else in the family interested in F1 (though Mum is too busy with the farm to kart herself) without really trying - he just made sure that we got access to books and that if we needed a fact clarifying, he was there. He didn't count on me being quite as keen as I've become, but at least it's a perseverative interest (most would call it an obsession) he understands. I like to think this is part of the reason I didn't sink when I hit the F1 forum scene.

That's "oh dear, with this level of staff turnover something appears to be going seriously wrong".

Which is a shame because the team has demonstrated potential since the ownership change.

If anyone has any recipe's for Timo's dinner on Saturday, you only have a couple of hours to send it to Rob:

    Good stuff. I seem to recall you were faster than him in January too. {Comment #315}

No. He beat me*. Everyone beat me - I came 22nd out of 22...

    * - He was only 21st though, on account of his only previous karting session being back in 1998.

  • Pat W02/06/2010 at 18:39

Arrggh! I'm quadruple-booked - can someone get me that bloke's time machine or am I going to have to dig the RSPCRF1 one out of the Plestiocene Age again?

Le Mans can be left to itself for an hour, and the Doc is on iPlayer..

  • Chris02/06/2010 at 18:40

    Evening all.

Le Mans can be left to itself for an hour, and the Doc is on iPlayer..

It's the episode James Corden's in, so I'm happy to save it for later :)

  • Alianora La Canta02/06/2010 at 18:40

Do you know where it will be held or is that under wraps until you announce it?

    It would be fun to go again but distance could be an issue as I may not be doing Autosport. {Comment #320}

It will be at Teamworks again because that's the only indoor karting place within reach of Autosport. I don't know whether I'm doing Autosport itself or not yet. It's almost certainly going to hinge upon whether I can get a job by then.

The "under wraps" bit is the finer details because to be frank I haven't entirely decided whether to do the same sort of format again or go for something slightly different.

  • RG02/06/2010 at 18:41

It's the episode James Corden's in, so I'm happy to save it for later :)

Hold on... and he's on ITV as well at that time?

Yes, that's worrying me too. Mark was supposed to be the Plan B after James left and I don't know if there's a Plan C at this moment in time.

  • Pat W02/06/2010 at 18:43

No. He beat me*. Everyone beat me - I came 22nd out of 22...

    Ah I see, foggy memory

  • Chris02/06/2010 at 18:43

Hold on... and he's on ITV as well at that time?

Oh, dear. I feel sorry for people who don't like him, or formula one. There'll be nothing to watch!

  • Alianora La Canta02/06/2010 at 18:44

    Le Mans can be left to itself for an hour, and the Doc is on iPlayer.. {Comment #333}

True. My swimming club, however, isn't!

This leaves me with two items on iPlayer, one of which I'll have to see while Le Mans is still on (otherwise Dad won't get to see it before he goes sailing on Sunday). The prospect of losing up to four hours of Le Mans (between going to swimming and finishing seeing F1 qualifying) is scary. Maybe I should try staying up through the night to compensate...

    What have they decided?

    From their press release:

The exciting new platform, which debuts in 2012, will allow manufacturers to produce engines with a maximum of six cylinders as well as maximum displacement of 2.4 cubic liters. The ethanol-fueled engines will produce between 550 and 700 horsepower to suit the diverse set of tracks on which the IZOD IndyCar Series competes and will be turbocharged to allow for flexibility in power.

He came out really quite desperately wanting a macbook, an iPad and a mac to the point where he was seriously considering his finances to get one of them.

    Just saying. :)

I'm getting used to the mornings actually. The problem with the lates was it was so variable. I did have to do normal 8-6 daytime hours sometimes too. Now I always work while the sun is up. Plus if you work in the morning, getting out of work by 2 or 3 feel like skiving.

  • Bassano02/06/2010 at 22:31

    *insomniac

  • Steven Roy02/06/2010 at 22:31

I like the two black and white pics . Can't make up my mind which is my favourite but I like that the number on the second is so clear even though the car seems to be vibrating itself to death.

Nothing yet, waiting for finances to improve. One plan is after next payday (Friday week). The other plan is to get a Goodwood ticket then and get the train ticket later, but I don't know how long to leave it.

  • lou02/06/2010 at 23:34

Oh I should say, we might be a car short. I haven't thought it through properly but I'm reasonably sure we need a 3rd confirmed driver.

  • Steven Roy02/06/2010 at 23:35

@Steven, thanks for the comments :) i was having a lovely time just messing around and looking at different techniques :)

You have to do that to find your own style. You have to do the basics but if you can create a style no-one else has then that is an advantage

  • Bassano02/06/2010 at 23:36

I use a skype app on my 3G all the time. Works like a charm

I haven't used it on the iPhone yet. I know that AT&T have only just allowed it, don't know about O2

Skype have saId that they will be chargng a fee from October for 3G calls

Oh I should say, we might be a car short. I haven't thought it through properly but I'm reasonably sure we need a 3rd confirmed driver.

Well, we can take 6 plus ourselves, comfortably. The others will have to arrange something or talk someone into driving

  • Alison02/06/2010 at 23:39

Skype have saId that they will be chargng a fee from October for 3G calls

I'm with 3. They have an arrangement with Skype. You get unlimited free skype calls and it doesn't come out your package. An iphone tariff is a little out of my price bracket.

  • lou02/06/2010 at 23:39

Oh I should say, we might be a car short. I haven't thought it through properly but I'm reasonably sure we need a 3rd confirmed driver.

    I want to drive :( :( :(

    And drive

She doesn't have the money to join us.. and has to work all summer in order to get her uni application good and all set for re application..

  • Pat W02/06/2010 at 23:42

do we have too many people wanting to go via car already?

Anything between 8 and 13 people, not sure yet. And we currently have 8 spots including drivers.

I only bring it up now so people can think on it and decide if they want to drive, rather than being forced into it late.

  • Alison02/06/2010 at 23:42

    Are you coming?

I can't. If nothing else, I have no holiday time. Nick definitely can't go.

  • Bassano02/06/2010 at 23:43

I had a look last week, couldn't get under about £60 for London on that night. Looking now and there's a couple for £35, that's do-able. I'll have to double-check the locations against the congestion charge zone. Ta.

I thought all Elans had pop up lights and those look like normal headlights. There is not a huge visual difference between the Elan and Elite.

The square rear wheel arches are Elan though.
