It's Thursday already, and whilst this is not a revered day amongst the Sidepodcommunity, we are hurtling towards the Goodwood weekend. A few people are heading to the Festival of Speed, and I bet the excitement is building. Don't forget to leave us a voicemail from the grounds, if you are going: 0121 28 87225. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about:
- Timo Glock has revealed his optimistic side by suggesting that it isn't out of the realms of possibility that Toyota could win a race this year. That's actually as far as he goes though, admitting that he's careful when it comes to talking about the team's first win. I guess he doesn't want to jinx it?
- On the subject of wins, Nick Fry has come out in support of Barrichello saying that he is overdue a win. I've just realised that we see a lot less of Mr Fry since he had to stop wearing those green trousers. It's much better that he is behind the scenes, wouldn't you say?
- My new mini series started yesterday, so if you haven't heard it yet, please check out F1 Safety - Helmets and Clothing. There will be six more short shows over the next few nights, so we'll be covering all sorts of safety aspects of the sport.
That's it for now. As ever, feel free to discuss what's on your mind, and don't feel constrained by what I've mentioned above. I'll see you in the comments.
Toyota for a win?
Sorry, I can't see it (unless it's behind so much spray at Spa that nobody bar Glock could have seen it anyway, and him only because he was in the leading car...)
If anyone was to just happen by the drop.io site, they would be mighty confused right now.
Verry true... from earlier... what is your position on beetroot in a burger?
As essential as pineapple. Ask any Australian.
True, but who would have picked torro rosso to win at monza.
the field is very tight this year, i think we can expect at least 1 non brawn/.RBR win this season
Excellent :D, strangely when i met some people in America they didn't believe it was possible
Yeah but come on, Toyota?
Pah. They haven't seen a real hamburger with "the lot". IF you can get your mouth around it, its not big enough.
Why not, a wet race, a couple of timely saftey cars and... ;)
....and, Trulli. hehehe.
Just a note on Goodwood in this thread, as people are going to bed on the other one and I won't be online at all on Thursday.
I hope to check in here Friday night after I return from London, when I'll have the chance to look at the timetable and sort out any last minute meetup plans. Failing that I won't be online again for a while so will be relying on Twitter on my mobile. I really hope we can do a meetup, whether it is for a long while or just to say hi!
I had a burger at a truck stop in northern queensland, in it, was a steak, a burger patty, bacon, egg, beetroot, salad, fried mushrooms, cheese and pineapple.
It fed me for a week
It would be great, Sunday seems to be the best day..
Should have the web in the evenings and hopefully mobile doohicky...
What??
Queenslanders are a bit strange.
A typical burger with the lot should fill you with no additions required though. Frys? Who needs 'em.
I think it was the first time i was actualy relived a girl was stealing my chips...
Awesome. A test of mobile tech.
should be good, we might need a way of talking directly, but i will survey for meetup points on friday
Good stuff. I've sort of got the layout as it was in 2003 in my head, but things will have changed and I'll remember things wrongly (probably the scale more than anything). Landmarks are good.
Cool.. hopefully see you there!
Yep, will let you know here if I'm successful with the ticket in the morning, will work out the rest later!
Actually because I'm a bit of a nerd and it was my first big motorsport event, I scanned the track map from the official programme in 2002... I'll dropio it.
True, but who would have picked torro rosso to win at monza. {Comment #5}
That was behind a fair wodge of spray too. But your point makes sense - surprises can and do happen in F1.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/track-map-jpg
Just remembered I could do that within Doohickey. Not great quality and it will be a bit different now but the basics are there.
Ah, cool i think i will buy a programme first thing for navigation and programing as well as having something to sign
work is so dead, everyone cross your fingers i get sent home.
Best of luck!
there's no place like home, there's no place like home
Oh dear... i am trawling the drop from before i joined... i didnt realise there were usage statistics...
No tennis for hours yet. You may as well stay at work
Yeah... the top five posters in the last 30 days used to be posted on the front page, but it became a competition with people posting more than they otherwise would, so it got dropped.
oh good.. i was a little worried i was posting too much and would have to cut back...
You are not close to posting too much.
That is good to hear :D
Random Q: I dont suppose anyone knows where McLarens old HQ was in Woking?
I have driven past it. I think it was called Albert Drive. It looks just like an Industrial Estate. Jean Alesi was planning of running a McLaren cusromer team a few years ago sponsored by a company called Direxiv so a search for that may give you the answer
I am asking becuase i found the old Mclaren documentry on the drop, and i wondered what happens there now
thanks, i might go and have a look after goodwood
bugger. i bought an sd card for my new car stereo, only to find i have no means of hooking it in to my pc to put music on it. the camera refuses to accept them.
I dont suppose you have a ps3? thats the only workaround i have used
Very interesting the way mika is getting slated for his inconsistancy...
Ok i shouldn't live comment it, i am sure it has been done!
no, I do have a Wii which has a slot
I havent tried but can you copy though that to a usb stick?
I don't think there is a USB slot.
There should be 2 on the back?
just checked, there is on mine...
oh, there is
I have no idea if it can read flash memory
speaking of tennis BYE LLEYTON. Just reading bbc news it says females who sleep 5 hours or less per night have a huge risk of heart disease. Uh oh.
I've only seen the option for the card in the menu screens, not the usb. Will try it another time, the stereo can take usb up to 1gb (only have 1 stick that size and 1 card). the stick + cds is plenty for now
Meanie... (Sorry Amy)
Isn't that only if you mention Heikki?
I thought there was talk of using the site for the Prodrive customer team when that was still possible.
Prodrive was going to be based on a site near their base in Banbury.
Wasnt it a possibility for the Dubai F1 team which never happened? was that the one alesi was involved in?
OK. I must have been thinking about that Jean Alesi team.
I found this on the drop...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/orlyyarly-jpg
...It has such infinite context!
:D
lukeh is a genius.
Yes! the Drop is a goldmine, i should have trawled through it a long time ago, its fun guessing who uploaded what!
In reply to Piquet giving away a visor if he reaches 20k followers in Twitter, Rubens doubles the bet: at 30k, 5 caps and a signed visor; at 40k, 5 shirts from Brawn and the pair of gloves from a race; at 50k, the overall from a race; at 100k, his helmet. And if the 100k are reached before Brazilian GP, a lucky winner will follow the race from Brawn's box...
Ah that makes sense...
I used google translate and it said he was giving away a visor and 5 bones!
Im not sure i wanted part of his skeleton!
:D
Google translate seems to really, really struggle with Portuguese. I am yet to manage to decipher any of Rubens tweets with it! (PS I left work early, now to do some much needed shopping. I can't put off outside any longer)
Why can't I sleep? :(
Have you moved?
Try WordReference.com; it's not a translator but a dictionary. But you'll have to build the phrase word by word... (most useful if you know Spanish ;-) )
I'm in a hotel tonight. I think it's mainly because I'm boiling tbh, I keep soaking my sheets to get cooled down.
ah, entiendo un poco de espanol ;)
Get out of bed and do something for half an hour. Go have a swim or a run or whatever options are available in your hotel. If you are struggling to sleep staying in bed is the worst thing you can do.
I really need to learn how to do the n with the wiggly thing on my keyboard
Try a cold bath and mint chewing gum ;)
Id that Finnish? No dots so probably not
Wiggily N?
Isnt it a wiggly enough letter already?
I wish Finnish was as easy to learn as Spanish is.
ñ :P
ñ
If it is a desktop keyboard hold down the alt key and type 0241 and you get ñ It won't work on a laptop keyboard though because the numbers above the top row of letters don't work with those short cuts. It has to be the number pad on the right
alt 0209 gives you Ñ
ah!
PK tweeted: The Twitter of rubarrichello @ Kers and have used it now
I am laptoppy :(
In that case you have to copy them from the character map and paste them in
It doesnt work for me, i get the nice error ping...
although this isnt a full keyboard
try any of alt+154, 164 or 168 (I don't remember and I'm in linux)
My keyboard is a shortened keyboard with a number pad but without the bunch of keys that normally appear between the lettes and numbers. I it is a PC with a number pad on the right it should work. You have to hold the alt down while you type the numbers then realease the alt and the character appears.
Actualy if i use Alt grrrrrr i seem to get € for everything which has been sugested.
I dont have a number pad
It won't work without a number pad.
Then you're of luck. Use Windows Character map....
"out" of luck
Ah, i would dig the Microsoft keyboard out, but i still haven't forgiven it....
Ah Rubens tweets in english...
He really is a nice guy :D
Search for charmap.exe if you don't know how to find your character map and stick a shortcut on your desktop because once you find it you will find out you can't live without it.
Yeah i used to do that for different bullet points at uni, it made life so much easier!
I await the inevitable GMM article on the twitter contests...
Morning :)
Morning Jackie. You are up late
Ooh that's new, the slogan "all for F1 and F1 for all"
It cant be morning yet!
Well I did go to bed and then I got up at two .. can't sleep, I'm too hot
Hehe, i havent even tried... Its not sleeping weather!
Steven you are also turning to Borg, being up this late :D
My plan was not to stay up beyond 2am but it failed again. I blame Amy and her squiggly n
I must have missed the squiggly n
ñ That one
You don't even have the sound in English right? "eñe", maybe "enie"?
Hey now, I didn't get back from work until 3.30am your time!
Turñs out it is a wiggly ñ and ñot a squiggly ñ. Ño wonder I am coñfused
ah æ
Well if you had been earlier this conversation would have finished earlier and I would have been in bed not sleeping like everyone else
Hahaha I might start using squiggly d's
I see. Well I am off to Ikea to buy a lightbulb and curse the fact I bought an Ikea lamp that only takes Ikea bulbs in the first place. Go to bed.
or not .. doohickey didn't like that character
According to google, "Pronounced like the 'ny' in the English word 'canyon'."
Buy a few then you won't have to back for months
You keep me up till this time and expect me to sleep as soon as you are finished with me?
It would be quite easy to go on the naughty naughty step if you broke doohickey with a load of those characters
I tried it and failed too.
This is true. A verry important sound to master when one is learning Spanish because one might say the difference between the meanings of the words ano and año is er, quite different
:D :D :D
Does anyone know why Brendon Hartley has ben replaced as reserve driver ?
I remember my arabic lessons at school... lots of very different and difficult sounds... mainly making you hock a loogie
Apparently s he can focus on his racing, It was always planned to only do half a season, but he couldn't get his superlicence and missed out on his first couple of races
According to Red Bull it was always planned that he would do the first haf od the season and Jamie Alguesuari would do the second half.
The official word is that, as they're not going to drive anyway, it's just a part of the young drivers program; to get in touch with the engineers and all the things in a race. So they take turn at it...
what on earth is that?
Possibly the first ever flash(?) game i remember...
It was from Bevis and Butthead off MTV in the 90's
http://www.mtv.com/games/arcade/game/play.jhtml?arcadeGameId=10036868
Still going strong!
I enjoyed getting the principal. Heh. McD*cker.
Ah, showing my age then, never heard of it.
It gets a reference in the movie "Findïng Nemo". The plastic mountain in the Sydney dentist's fish tank is called Mount Wanna-hock-a-loogie.
you know, as the only 2 men with twitter in mens singles i am glad andy and andy are playing each other. I hope they have another tweet war
have you ever watched the tv show?
Its is mindnumbingly addictive :D
Does that mean you hope one of the tweeters will win ;)
Might encourage Rodger to start...
wow, that's memory...
Now that it is daylight I am going to bed. Night all
night steven
That is a tempting argument.. might give it 30 mins
Night!
you are all far worse than i.
outside is cold. I regret my decision.
bwahahahaha....
PK has launched a load of new prizes for when he reaches landmark numbers of followers...
Rubens sums it up best: ta ta copying copying ... hahaha
I'll go to bed. Night all
Rubens and Nelsons twitter battle has amused me...
Real F1 possibly overtaking fake f1
night!
Is this twitter fad still going? Isn't everyone sick of it yet?
G'Day all, I return from work. Thank god for that.
Not when there are real f1 drivers doing it!
I wish my day was that short
hey.. Almost bedtime for me..
I only work casual.
It's not far past getting up time for me on a normal day. Damn work...
I have been doing some work tonight, gotta make some money! ...I dont have a job though!
Anyhow, Night all! Bed awaits
Night.
just fell asleep on the tram. Leaving the house sucks.
Heh, trams, I forgot you had them down there.
oh my god is it the gainok holidays? Ikea was a bad idea!
by gainok clearly i mean school
Clearly. Is it the school holidays though? It isn't up here.
Ewww! Children?!
ridiculous amounts of children and they all move SO SLOW. I am safely on my way home now though
Just push 'em out of the way - mothers don't mind that sort of thing.
Bahrain was their best chance, and they blew it. With Red Bull and Brawn excelling at different types of track, there's no type of track where a Toyota would be quickest (or even 2nd quickest, for that matter). They'll need an awful lot of luck (and probably some rain) to pull off a maiden win this year.
Expect Rubens to start winning the moment Jenson clinches the title. While he can win before Jenson clinches the title (he has won at the Nurburgring and Hungaroring before), I'm sure the one race Rubens desperately wants to win is at Interlagos.
I agree. At the start of the season they were probably the second quickest and they had chances to win. They blew it and it seems unlikely this year.
If Brawn win, I've always wanted it to be Rubens. I can't see him winning too many races this year though. The more Red Bull improve, the less likely a Rubens wins will become.
Because it makes Brawn more likely to completely fall in behind Jenson.
Behind Brawn and Red Bull, I'd love to see Toyota and Ferrari tussle it out for 3rd place (just like 2005!), as well as Williams and McLaren battling for 5th place (just like 2004, but worse, sadly).
I love how all of Piquet's prizes are signed by his Dad as well, clearly he knows his signature isn't enough ;)
I think they would be worth more if they were ONLY signed by his dad.
the difference with WIlliams is that in 2004 it was fall from grace, this year a sign of improvment ...
Taking a look at Rubens' Twitter - I'm impressed that he replies to a LOT of fans' tweets. For an F1 driver, that's a rare sight.
Also, I found out that ex-F1 ace Antonio Pizzonia has a Twitter account too.
And this is dedication to the cause - tweets from Rubens:
now THAT is awesome. :D
I want that. I don't care if I don't like Brawn, I still want that. Time to sign up to Twitter methinks. ;)
Perhaps only 1 in 100000 chance of winning, but thats 440 times more likely than the odds for the Lotto the other night. ;)
Another cool video AND contest from the Singapore GP organizers - open to everyone from inside and outside Singapore:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3JvdEJfZuU
F1 tickets at stake too!
Not to mention WAY cooler. :D
I don't think so. With $100 million I could get pit access to EVERY GP I reckon ;)
I'm sure the twitter batlle will escalate so there are bound to be more prizes :D
Well, yeah, I guess. Heheh. :P
It is only a matter of time before Piquet gives away the helemt Alonso gave him :P
At this rate, you may be right! From Nelsinho's Twitter:
i wonder if the boys know about those services where you can buy followers. 100000 followers costs $5000 or so
aren't both of them tweeting in portuguese only, one of the few hundreds of languages I do not speak (other than cerveja) ?
Cerveja? Beer? Basing that of my limited knowledge of Spanish, in which it is cerveza.
I believe you may be correct :-)
Yay! Apart from it being similar to Spanish, if you could only know one word in another language, I reckon beer would be pretty high up the list for most people. ;)
G'morning all.
Oooh, sounds.
Piquet does it in english as well ;)
Piquet > Rubens :D
Morning all.
Boo for tennis today.
No, no. Piquet only upped the prizes after Rubens made him look bad :D
What is all this PIquet spam in Twitter? Am unsubscribing.
There is only one solution to this; who is more awesome?
We all know the answer to this. ;)
It's not to do with the prizes, someone said that Piquet twits in English while Rubens only does Portuguese. If thats not true I'll take it back. ;)
Hehe :D
We need more drivers to sign up, think of the prizes :D
I think he only does it in english so he can have more followers.
Schumacher - 100k followers and one of my trophies
Alonso - 50k followers and a part of my 2006 championship winning car
Villeneuve - 20 followers, one wins my harry potter glasses
One of Villeneuve's prizes is bound to be his CD.
The point of prizes is to make people want it. I think there's a good chance at least 1 in 20 would want glasses. If he offered his CD, he would be the first twitter account to go into minus figure followers
True but he thinks his CD is good ;)
Didn't Mr C say he liked JV's CD? Perhaps he would follow him.
Well someone has to :D
They will come - trust me, they will. ;)
The CD might be as good as Mr C's, then. :D
Was that the old CD or the new one?
I didn't know there was more than one, but I would imagine the first one.
1 x GW ticket purchased, and online too so I didn't have to speak to someone :-)
oh, GMM latest offer is 35EUR/month for their daily selection of unfounded rumours. price keeps dropping ... once it gets to zero we are all doomed :-)
Waiting in a hairdressers is boring! I think my mop is preparing to be brawnmower'd
Ooooh, pictures?
I lol'd at the Schumacher bit on James' blog.I don't want Alonso to go.
Well, James Allen has been talking about Alo to Ferrari being done deal for quite a while and I think he is not alone. looks like for the people with direct access to paddock talk it is no longer "if" but only question "when"
I can't think of much I hate more than a silly season story that has been going on for more than 2 years.
It was the same with the Kimi to Ferrari stories ;)
exactly. They were even more painful for me too!
found this on one of Allen's older blogs
How different F1 could have been.
people somehow tend to forget that that wrong man won his debut race in Ferrari colours and also won the championship in his first season with Ferrari ...
People also forget how awesome Kimi was back in the day, considering in 2005 he won the same number of races as Alonso even with a ridiculously unreliable car.
But it is impossible to know what Alonso would have done in the 2007 Ferrari, and he would have been the defending champion so anything is possible really.
I however will never forget taht he took and ran away with my bottle of vodka
I am scared and confused
this is how you know you haven't had enough vodka
I can't drink vodka anymore. The smell of it brings back terrible memories of a bad night. Before that night it was the only spirit I liked. I also don't like wine. This limits me to uh, beer and only beer.
Really?
Something's not right here - LDM can push Schumacher out of Ferrari, but he can't get Todt to hire Alonso instead of Raikkonen? Something doesn't compute here for me...
You don’t even have the sound in English right? “eñe”, maybe “enie”? {Comment #101}
I tend to describe it is en-Yay (capital for emphasis) in Spanish class. No wonder ñ always seems like a jolly little letter...
I really suspect that Kimi will move to Fiat's IRC team. It's the best solution for Kimi, Fernando, and Felipe.
I pronounce it as en-Ye. :)
Is this twitter fad still going? Isn’t everyone sick of it yet? {Comment #140}
I'm sick of the site never loading whatever trick I try (even the mobile version doesn't load on my desktop any more...)
yep, 2006, party after Shanghai GP, long story, but the Kimi part is still tops my list of best F1 related experiences :-)
But it is impossible to know what Alonso would have done in the 2007 Ferrari, and he would have been the defending champion so anything is possible really. {Comment #210}
I wonder if having Alonso as a Ferrari tester would have changed Felipe Massa's career any? Would he have been offered a Ferrari contract in 2003 if Alonso had been in situ?
Mind you, I suspect Alonso/Schumacher would have been a messy combo from the social integration side, so perhaps it's just as well Ferrari ended up having Massa and then Raikkonen instead of Alonso.
Something’s not right here – LDM can push Schumacher out of Ferrari, but he can’t get Todt to hire Alonso instead of Raikkonen? Something doesn’t compute here for me… {Comment #216}
How about "Jean Todt isn't in the Ferrari hierarchy any more, so isn't in a position to hire anyone?" Maybe Stefano Domenicalli doesn't listen to LDM as much as his predecesor did...
with an illegal car.
with an illegal car.
well, same can be said about the mass damper Renault and Alonso, so may be better do not go there
not it cannot.
the fia changed the damper rule interpritation part way through a season.
ferrari deliberatly set out to gain an advantage through the use of a blatantly illegal part.
Aircon - failed
Flat temperature - 37°C and rising
Servers - shut down
Not good the day after a fancy dress party, and I'm massively dehydrated.
With a dodgy description - moveable aero... hmmmm....
with an illegal car. {Comment #224}
Presumably the same car would have been offered regardless of whether Alonso or Raikkonen had been hired, since neither of them are designers?
absolutely. and the win would've been equally tainted.
Aircon – failed
Flat temperature – 37°C and rising
Servers – shut down {Comment #227}
Air at Flibster's place - cool down!
ouch.
it passed the test it was supposed to pass :-) if i am not wrong FIA did not rule the car illegal, just changed the way testing that feature in question. hard to blame a team for exploiting loopholes. at the end that is what everybody is trying to do
Engineer coming out tomorrow - 24hour turnaround. :D
in any case, the fact is that since that title there hasn't been much to cheer about in Kimi's case. are we in danger of F1 without Finns ?
hoki kovilienen will always be about
absolutely. and the win would’ve been equally tainted. {Comment #230}
True. 2007 was a very messy year all round...
Given the car they've given Kimi and Heikki's general performance...
It's likely
i guess it depends on whose account of the situation you believe.
to me the two situations are incomparable. to setup a floor to be mass damper after the things have been outlawed, is different to coming up with the idea in the first place and then having it outlawed.
I've done a blog entry about rumours* that some of you may find funny.
* - As opposed to "Rumours", the album from which F1 theme "The Chain" came from...
I think we now know Ferrari were protected.
*ducks*
certainly possible. but i don't subscribe to steven-roy's-theory-of-everything, that says kimi's doing badly because they've repeatedly setup the car against his liking.
if that's true, he's a rubbish tester, and if it's not, he's been repeatedly outclassed by... of all people... massa.
ask yourself this. if kimi's paycheque was coming out of your pocket, would you be happy with his performance? to me he's the biggest let down on the grid.
I agree. I think kiki is bei g lazy, he's not trying
Or kimi even
I am not here but I can't believe this is being re-hashed again.
Nigel Stepney was responsible for the Ferrari being legal. He reviewed the design and realised the floor was a mass damper and told the Ferrari management that in his view the car was illegal. THey said they were going to run it anyway. This is what triggered the whole Stepney and Coughlan to Honda thing and the dossier business which was nothing to do with McLaren its was part of their plan to go to Honda.
Stepney wrote to Charlie Whiting asking for clarification and got no reply. Bear in mind this is only a year or so after the feal that gave Ferrari the right to veto technology they didn't like so there is every chance they vetoed the mass damper which was legal in th first place. Charlie Whiting never replied.
Despite advanced warning the car passed scrutineering and raced and won then miraculously after the race the FIA decided that in future that design would be illegal but the win stood.
You have to look at all the stuff that happened around the time of the dodgy deal with Ferrari and conclude that Ferrari's achievements at that time are suspect at best and criminal at worst.
The mass damper was declared to be an illegal aerodynamic device which frankly is bull***** but at the same time Ferrari started running blatantly illegal aerodynamic devices on their wheels claiming they were for brake couling. Everyone knew this was a lie and it has since proved to be as they have had to remove them twice in races now to stop the brakes overheating.
I cannot believe anyone would argue in favour of Ferrari during this period in the face of the evidence especially now that we know some of the details of the dodgy deal.
:D
The fundamental car design doesn't suit him. He like a car to be very tight, turns the wheel and it goes - doesn't mind the rear being a little loose either.
Same as Schumacher, same as Hamilton - the last 3 cars they have produced haven't been that way. 2007 was the closest to the Schumacher style of handling - since then it appears to have drifted away from that.
I still would love to see Raikkonen and Hamilton in a team together, with a car that suits their driving style.
I think the problem is he made a knee jerk decision to go to Ferrari without any thought of the type of car they built. It is nothing to do with testing ability. It is simply that Ferrari have years of data in designing understeering cars.
That would be fabulous to see and I think there would be very little between them.
Thermometer has just hit 40°C!
A full 20°C over my comfort zone - I need to find some where to get cool air...
Happy Goodwood eve everybody! ;)
i agree to a point. but i think others would figure out a way around it. or request that it be changed.
what would schumi have done?
Cheated?
He was in a different position though, he effectively rebuilt the team, bringing people like brawn with him who knew what he wanted.
What Schumi did was find that he had a bunch of guys at Benetton who could design a car exactly to his liking and run a team to his advantage so he made Ferrari give them lots of money to make them happy.
:)
40 degrees? In the UK?
sounds like the summer we had. Of corse that was the outside temp
I'll be happy the day Luca Di Montezemolo steps down. Though they'll probably replace him with someone as equally arrogant.
When a team like Ferrari were as desperate as they were in 1995 to win a title, Schumacher was in a better position to tell the team what he needs to win championships.
Raikkonen didn't have that luxury (not that he looked for it anyway). Alonso, in contrast, will look for that kind of advantage (building a team around him and all that), but will Ferrari give it to him? I'm not so sure...
what would Anando do? Complain and run back to Renault?
If he did that, it would reaffirm the comfort-zone belief and damage his reputation more.
Hehe :)
I'm all packed and ready!
Regardless of whether this is set in 2007 or 2010, I think it's much more likely Ferrari would listen to Alonso than McLaren. In either year, they are still looking for a driver that will lead the team like Schumacher did. I guess it's down to how a driver like Alonso would fit in with the Ferrari culture.
yay. Photos everybody!
you think that is true if Massa is still there? Why would they? for that matter, would Alonso go there with an established team mate
Alonso wasn't smart enough to get his people into McLaren either. If he had gone to a team with his guys he would not have been in such a week position that he was kicked out after one season. There is nothing to suggest that Alonso is any sarter than Kimi.
I wrote a piece when Alonso was supposed to be going to Ferrari straight from McLaren about him and about a point that has never been addressed. If he could not cope with th calm atmosphere at Woking without blowing a gasket how is he supposed to cope with the pressure at Maranello and with the Italian press?
That is a very good question. As things stand, I'm not 100% sure they will keep Massa as a teammate to Alonso.
Would Alonso go there even if he were teammates with Massa? I think he would - anything would be better than where he is now at Renault, #1 driver or not.
I love this theory that Raikkonen is going rallying to give Alonso his drive. Are Ferrari/FIAT planning on giving him $40 million to drive a rally car when there is no reason to believe he would be any good or is he generously giving away all that money as well as his drive and F1 future??
Breaking news from the new F1 Racing - Brundle will be at Hungary!!
Alonso loves Italian stuff.
I'd look at it this way - Ferrari are more driver-friendly than McLaren. Take a look at Kimi - there were certain things McLaren asked him to than he didn't want to do (like PR commitments and suchlike). I think that was one of the factors that contributed to his move to Ferrari. One of the things Ferrari did for Kimi when he moved was to lessen his PR commitments, to make him feel better.
Also, another factor that may contribute to how Alonso will fare at Ferrari is his relationship with Stefano and LDM. If they are friendly to him, they're more likely to accede to his requests.
my question is why should they? He's a (well paid) employee.
Ok probably silly question
Also, this months F1 Racing has Jean Alesi!
I [heart] Jean Alesi :D
In a word - yes.
That totally ignores the point that Kimi couldn't care less what anyone including the press thinks about him or how his team mate is seen within the team. Presumably if Raikkonen is off playing at being a rally driver Massa is in the other Ferrari. Massa at Ferrari is like Hamilton at McLaren. He has been there forever. He is massively popular and knows everyone in the team and how to work with them.
Alonso clearly cannot cope unless he is the clear number one and as soon as that position is threatened he creates chaos and tries to blackmail the guy who runs the team. Add the Italian press into the deal and I don't foresee a long future.
Of course the team could decide to ditch Massa and hire Piquet.
Hehehe, they've given him the evil eyes though.
It's a valid question. I think it would be down to human relationships and all that.
It's not that they should (they don't need to), but I think they would.
Yes they are going to pay him 40 mill or yes he is going to walk away from the money and F1 and commit to something he may be no good at and takes up a lot more of his time than F1 does?
Yeah the full page pic is a little too close for my liking...
Ahahahahaha! Now that would be a good rumour!!!
I'd compare Massa at Ferrari with Alesi at Ferrari circa 1995. Massively popular with the team and the tifosi, he's been there for 4-5 years, but he hasn't won a title with them. He's popular, but expendable for the greater glory(?) of Alonso.
Trulli beat him in 2004, but even then, Trulli left because of Flavio, not Alonso.
Heheh. Would Nelsinho agree to be this era's Eddie Irvine?
I think Ferrari just might pay Kimi 40M to go rallying and leave F1.
It's conceivable Kimi will leave F1 for rallying. If he wasn't enjoying himself, he wouldn't be doing it this often, right?
what do rally drivers get paid these days? 40m seems excessive, no?
Gonna test a few things with my DS, my camera and drop.io/doohickey...
cool. yell if you has issues.
Indeed - very excessive, I would think (Not even Loeb would be getting paid that much, I'd think). But FIAT would be paying Kimi more to stay away from F1 rather than to drive for their rallying team.
there must be some performance clause they can use as a get out?
starting ahead of massa at silverstone, but finishing behind him can't have done his chances of retaining a seat much good?
Heck, even JA seems to think likewise...
the Ds browser doesn't like drop.io at all :(
is there' a mobile version of uploading photos at all do you know?
i'm pretty sure there is some sort of clause. what kind of terms would it have, though?
agreed.
Alesi won one race in his entire career. Massa was one corner away from a championship. That is a huge difference.
That was early in his career before he had been a clear number one.
They are just going to write off $40 million dollars. You do know they could build a competitive WRC car and run it for that and hire two world champion drivers but instead they are going to let Kimi play for a year and set up a team at extra expense to help him have fun.
My cousin plays music for fun and has been in bands since his early teens. They do a couple of gigs a week and make good money. he gave up work to mak music his full time job and it lasted 6 months because full time music was nowhere near as much fun as part time and at the same time he had lost his hobby because it was now his job.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/m
Bottom line is, neither have won titles. And Ferrari usually only care for titles. After all, F1 is IF backwards...
james allen loves to state the obvious doesnt he...
Ferrari would probably have to pay him more than 40mil to terminate his contract, rallying would be more of a retirement job than something he would consider a burden. He could probably do no press at all, and not speak to anyone. Perfect
I am equally sure that he has a clause about the teamgiving him a competitive car.
One of them is clearly capble of winning a title where the other one clearly was not.
if i were picky, f1 backwards is 1f.
;)
Does Ferrari have any other programs other than F1? They don't - it's all about F1.
Has Kimi realized that, though?
agreed.
:P Riiiiight, then.
sato still drives sports cars for them?
*salo. sorry.
Maserati sportscars. Or they could just let him driver their F1 car since that is what they did last year when all the Alonso rumours were around and as they did when the theory was Alonso had signed for Ferrari when he had really signed for McLaren.
I have never heard him say he wants to do full time rallying
They have A1 ;)
modified 5 year old chassis with roadcar engines...
:(
I wonder how much they will pay Alonso, I wonder if it will be less than Massa.
There is a big chance he has lost his x-factor, I seems strange to be signing him now. At the first race where the Renaults supposedly had parity he got beaten by his team-mate.
Wouldn't a young driver to support Massa make more sense than another driver just looking for a year or 2 in the red before he retires?
why would they though? to be massa's subservient number 2?
Will have to wait until monday evening for my goodwood photos it seems :(
Is that run by Maranello? Or by a partner outfit?
He hasn't said he doesn't want to do it, either.
Well, Alonso won't sign up again for McLaren this time, will he? ;)
boo. the mobile version not work either?
As a Ferrari fan I would prefer to see a younger driver there.
As a Kimi fan, I would like to see him stay there. ;)
It does work but it refuses to allow me to upload as the forms are greyed out. Same with email, it's the browsers fault rather than the site. Booo!
Why sign Alonso. Either way they have to pay Raikkonen so why add a budget to run him in something else and a similar if not higher figure for Alonso whose contribution has to be questionable?
So instead of paying $40 million you are now paying out at least $100 million. What have you gained?
does the ds do normal email? try an attachment to sidepodcast@drop.io
I tried but the forms are still greyed out. Silly browser :(
He won't sign for Ferrari either. Raikkonen is going nowhere unless the crazy people have taken control of Ferrari's fiances
when do santander join ferrari? what use is kimi to them? no use at all.
Oh dear... Joe just wrote that King Harold was hit by an arrow in the eye at the battle of hastings....
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21610.html
I am not sure i can trust him as much now...
finances not fiances. Who knows maybe the fiances are in charge of the finances.
understood. but does it not have an email client, for day-to-day emailing?
:D
the common rumor re Santander is that they'll join Ferrari next year. Not sure how true that is, though.
He is a popular world champion who if Ferrari can get their act together and give him a half decent car is their best chance of winning the championship.
I dont really get that, has the Lewis Hamilton Ad purseuded anyone to sign up with them?
F1 sponsorship is all about global brand projection... Santander think it is about village brand projection
Would all of Spain switch banks if santander unveiled him at Ferrari?
was that not true then?
I thought they announced it?
Nope, just the standard opera browser built for it. They say more applications are coming soon... but still...
But not soon enough!
Hey, all just on lunch :) Missed anything?
what about gmail, within the opera browser?
Noooooooo......It was a piece artistic symbolism common at the time...
So if they are not joining who is supplying the extra $60 million?
Tried, same thing with the greyed outness when trying to attach files :(
fair enough. i think i may have been mis-taught too though.
booo!
If they would then they all must have switched when he was at McLaren and presumably left when he was fired. Makes you wonder why Santander didn't just pump the money into Renault and get them all back faster
I'm guessing it's true - just not saying it's a given fact.
He wasn't even Ferrari's best chance last year...
Only the Alonso to Ferrari rumpurs again
you needs one of these: http://bit.ly/19EKv3
He was the year before
ummm... ING?
Maybe they couldn't get out of their contract?
ohhh yeah, them! :D
Far too many people are.
I also invest too much energy in trying to let everyone know that it is wrong.
But just think how difficult it would be to position yourself to be hit by a long distance arrow, and not see it coming..
a competitor already has title sponsorship. that would've been a stupid move.
trust me. christine wouldn't ;)
:D
Hopefully you will steer her clear of medieval battle's then!
I don't know who King Harold is.
For all we know, Flavio could be being the master negociator that he is and already trying to scupper Ferrari's plans by trying to keep hold of Alonso and swipe Santander to replace ING who are leaving F1 at the end of this season. Heck, if he was able to keep hold of Piquet...
used to be in neighbours.
:)
I think he had a tuba
Hehehehe :D
Gotcha.
He was a novelist, he wrote the doomsday book
Maybe all the cutomers in Spain don't switch banks based on who sponsors Alonso
He was in Monty Python
Ahhh. Sounds like you don't know who King Harold is either.
It was William who was responsible for the Doomsday book.
But as Mr C said, they couldn't move to ING-sponsored Renault.
Ah yes, Apparently he won the battle, a trivial side note.
The key point is that the arrow did not go in Harold's eye!
they could now
after they agreed a deal with ferrari?
Well no, but they could have done, before they signed that i mean ;)
Marlboro sponsored both McLaren and Ferrari for a while though...
Agreed. I am simply saying that maybe the need for a Spanish driver is not there. Does anyone really believe that enough people in Spain choose their bank based on Fernando Alonso's sponsor to make it vital to have him at a cost of $60 million for one season? Surely it makes more sense to keep two popular drivers and wait a season for Alonso.
Surely the key point is that the French won. The fact that he was killed is more important than where the arrow went.
but that was before ING decided to pull out of f1.
and santander may sponsor mclaren and ferrari too.
and had private deals with most of the drivers of th grid
of course. unless they can shoo kimi out the door with a get out clause...
in which case, bonus!
Shooo! Shooo! Get out, Get out!
coincidentally we overhead that exact conversation in the silverstone paddock. he's still there though.
Ferrari needs Alonso like a fish needs a bike. Imagine he goes there and does the same as he did at McLaren which is possible even probable unless they get rid of Massa. What then? Write him a huge cheque to go away and hire who next?
:D
I wonder if ferrari have these outside the motorhome
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_i7rVljJ1gDI/SRKjxerxU0I/AAAAAAAAAc0/CNrwbVC4XhU/s400/Come-in+and+go-away+doormat.jpg
In the Ferrari motor home? Were deMontezemolo and Domenicali involved?
:)
Interesting..
FakeBernie:@faketonygeorge Now that you've resigned as head of IndyCar, you aren't thinking of standing for the FIA presidency, are you?
i thought the issue was with ron dennis? i can't see that happening with stefano, but who knows.
you're judging the man on one year of a long career. no renault motorhome door has ever been damaged during alonso's career. there's nothing to say ferrari's are in danger either, is there?
i like that!
I think the bigger issue was that he was made to look bad.
I have a feeling his ego will be too big for Ferrari too, and he might not have a Renault to go back to this time
Heidfeld has decided an ugly helmet will help him go faster...
http://www.bmw-sauber-f1.com/en/index.html?jumpin=/news/~283/&lity=rssfeed_f1#/news/~283/|0/
i disagree. if you had to drive for ron dennis, you'd probably grow a silly beard and feel like smashing up his pristine motorhome too.
he's that kind of person.
as discussed ages ago on this very site. mika appears to be the only modern driver to have driven for ron and still have something polite to say about him.
goooood lord!
The issue was Ron wouldn't mak him number one over Hamilton. Are Ferrari going to tell Massa to be number two when he has been with the team since his teens?
I am judging him in the only year where there was expectation on him and he had a competitve team mate and no history with the team. Exactly the situation he would be dacing at Ferrari except that Ferrari is a political environement and he would have the Italian press to deal with.
Ferrari are not going to hire Piquet to make him look good.
True that Mclaren documentary on the drop showed how harsh he was even on a young Mika who had just outperformed Senna in his first quali.
But i get the impression Alonso just simply doesn't like being shown up, if Massa beats him convincingly Ferrari can expect the Spanish inquisition
Sgt Pepper?
He was in Monty Python too Christine.
when did alonso say he wanted to be number one? all i heard in 2007 was lewis bleating about being number 2?
i don't think they need too. this issue was a clash of personalities with the team boss.
Nick H: "The first impression when I say it was just: wow"
I thought wow as well. Wow, how on earth did that win!
that's a VERY good point.
But that worked. Mika got his act together and didn't get big headed which is something he was always prone to. I remember Johnny Herbert talking about chucking him in a swimming pool fully dressed when they were at Lotus because Mika was doing the F1 superstar bit as Herbert called it.
I find it amazing that everyone remembers that Hakkinen out qualified Senna at the first attempt and no-one remembers that Berger did the same.
I only know that because i watched it 12 hours ago!
He changed his mind all through the season. He complained about not getting number one treatment from Monaco where he told Ron he wanted him to slow Lewis down. The barny that Lewis provoked i Hungary was that Alonso threatened to tell the FIA what he thought he knew about the spy thing unless Ron made him number one. Then Lewis championship lead got bigger and he decided that not only was he not getting number one treatment he was not even getting equal treatment.
It was pathetic from start to finish and as far as I am concerned showed him up as not being close to as good as his reputation and not being a clever operator. It is beyond me why people rate him. What has he done for Renault since he went back there?
But Berger had already won races with Benetton and Ferrari. That was Mika's first race with the big guns.
Im not sure how acurate this is, it came of an indian mororing site but there might be a not to be missed moment at goodwood involving:
A mini, Damon Hill, and lots and lots of girls wearing miniskirts
Motoring!
Coulthard says a lot of good stuff about Ron with some negative stuff added in.
:D
i thought that all kicked off at hungary? at monaco, lewis turned up the number 2 complaints to 11.
in hungary, he didn't though? lewis ignored the plan to alternate strategies that the team had been using all year. he basically got too big for his boots. suddenly it was not equal treatment.
yes, ron was. such was his desire to see project-lewis succeed he ruined the best chance his team had of taking the driver's title that year.
i blame dennis for 2007 entirely. not lewis and not alonso. hence why i don't think 2010/2011 will bare any relation to 2007.
*sigh* at no point has Alonso come out and told us what was said between himself and Ron Dennis at Hungary we only have Ron's side of things. In fact Alonso hasn't said much about 2007.
When Ron came out and said that were racing Alonso, they pretty much confirmed who he was backing.
he can't. mclaren/ron have silenced him.
Yep, in his press bit after he said the team told him to move over and he didn't see why he should so stayed in front.
agreed. it simply confirmed the lack of equality present at mclaren. something coulthard appears happy to back up. repeatedly.
Yep, but I think that has changed since Ron has left the team. I feel that Hekki is getting more support from the team this year particularly from the guy in charge.
Anway... regarless of how disruptive Alonso is...
...He simply isn't the driver he was 2 or 3 years ago...
also agreed.
Go the other guy!
he scored two wins in last years rubbish renault?
Albeit lucky wins, particularly the one in Singapore. That coming from someone who supports Alonso :P
first one was likely a planned crash from piquet. the second was on merit. no luck at all.
That said, it is a shame the season didn't start in the second half as Alonso was the man to beat.
Ah so thats why Piquet got the helmet from Alonso ;)
it'll likely be the same this year. all the other teams will concentrate on 2010, while renault will push for x1 win a year. that's all ghosn wants.
:P
They were down to the team and luck though, not his driving.
When was his last great drive?
That thing with webber would never have happened a few years ago.
he drive in japan was awesome. absolutely perfect.
Lewis suggested that he was being treated as number two which was bul***
He did what any competitive driver would do. He sought to seek and 'unfair' advantage and de-stabilise his team mate and it worked. As a resul of not giving up that position the "best all round driver in F1" has spent two seasons in an uncompetitive car and Lewis hasa world championship.
Ron gave both of them equal treatment throughout. The idea that Lewis somehow got prefential treatment is nonesense. Even when Alonso threatened to go to the FIA and Ron had legitimate grounds to fire him he gave him equal treatment. Had he suspended Alonso from Hungary Lewis would have been champion.
Alonso lost the plot because he could not beat Lewis fair and square and when he tried to call Ron's bluff instead of caving in to his demands Ron phoned Max and told him that Alonso had said he knew of some Ferrari data. That cost the team $100 million but he did that rather than have a driver run the team.
erm, which thing?
not true.
Not being able to complete the overtake
am confused. which race?
Renault are too far back this year, Silverstone showed that.
In Spain down the main straight after the safety car went in.
It was a great pice of driving from Webber, but Alonso should have covered him
Malaysian GP wasn't it? Alonso got ahead of a group of cars that were quicker if I remember.
Ah I stand corrected :P
Alonso did a power of complaing to the press that he was not being treated as number one then that he was not getting equal treatment. He whinged so much the FIA put an equality steward in the McLaren garage in Brazil to make sure he got eqaul treatment. Quite how that is legal is beyonf me but he complained through the Spanish federation and Carlos Garcia the head of the Spanish federation was stationed in the McLaren garage thoughout the Brazilian weekend.
I am so fed up with this statement being repeated. It is one sentence out of an entire season. Racing people are incapable of saying anything other than we. Ron was asked about Lewis and as far as Lewis was concerned he was racing Alonso because he was the championship threat. Bear in mind this is after Alosnos tried to blackmail Ron at Hungary so even if Ron had been trying to make sure Lewis beat Alonso it would hardly be unreasonable.
Had Alonso suffered the problems Lewis did in Brazil we would still be hearig about how it was deliberate. If Ron really wanted Lewis to beat Alonso it would have been pretty eay to do something to his car to stop him
oh i see. there were two lines into that corner, the man only has one car and the rbr had fantastic grip into there. difficult call. but might have to watch it again.
What do you base that on? I have no idea who gets what support in any team
None of us were there in the room with them, we have Ron's side thats it. Alonso is prevented from talking about it.
Give me an example
Afternoon all. Just got back from Hurdy-Gurdy-land - was lots of fun and 31 degrees~!
I remember reading that Whitmarsh like Hekki.
It was on TV.
The way i see it Alonso went past him and lost focus, he was probably waiting for the fans to stand up!
I dont think that would have happened in the seasons before he went to mclaren
Woops, I quoted the wrong bit. I meant the Hungary thing ;)
That is meaningless. How does tht equate to getting more support within the team?
The rubbish Renault against one of the fastest cars this year, it doen't matter how good the driver is the result will always be the same.
Haven't you just been arguing that LewHam and A-Lo were getting the same support? Now you have no idea?
So you think Ron reported his team to the FIA for some other reason? He put himself and the team in the dock because he thought it was a good idea?
Can we be a little less aggressive about it, please?
I argued they were getting equal equipment and equal opportunity. ie strategies, who got to go out of th pits first in quali etc. Not who got their hand helf most often and who Ron tucked into bed and read a story to.
amazing what sort of fire can 2 year old team mates battle still spark :-)
Looks like I picked the wrong time to pop in and say hi...
Hi Gavin. You've been outside???
I am not being aggressive. I am simply making the pointthat if Ron turned himself and th team into the FIA ther must be a reason for it. He wen out and sigend Alonso because he wanted him to drive for his team. He only signed Hamilton because he thought Alonso would be so good he could take the risk. It would be very odd to turn himself into the FIA and blame Alonso unless it as true
I have no idea what goes throught Ron's head, over the years drivers have said he favours one over the other. In China he was more concerned that Hamilton was racing Alonso and not the guy driving a car for another team who was also in with a shout of the title (and won it in the end). I remember an interview with Ron in 2005 or 2006 where he said the drivers championship was more important, but becuase of infighting they let it slip through their fingers in 2007.
He had Kers and he went past him after the restart.
Then it just looked like he drifted over and lost focus instead of defending the corner aggresivly.
http://www.wat.tv/video/gp-espagne-2009-alonso-vs-webber-1hpnh_vbhb_.html
I've been to Norway :D
Happy Place?
http://www.breadonthewaters.com/add/0154_Heaven_christian_clipart.jpg
Ooooooh, lovely! On holiday?
Hehehe. No need for that. Tis a great discussion, I would just prefer it not to turn PlanetF1-esque.
I just find it incredible that the same old arguments keep coming up. It is like the whole dossier thing. Stepney and Coughlan were making a joint approach to Honda that is why they were sharing data. It would be insane for Coughlan to give Ferrari data to McLarne to make his job at Honda harder but despite the fact Whiting went into Woking mob handed and in two weeks found absolutely nothing beloning to Ferrari apart from some ideas on a design people still think McLarne were cheating.
Yeah - went on an overnight ferry for a day trip. We went to Oslo, saw loads of stuff, had 31 degrees heat and also saw the midnight sun from the ocean. Was really cool!
course. alonso:
"my confidence in this team is zero"
don't tell me. 100% in his head, and the same thing is gonna happen at ferrari? what's amazing to me is that alonso manged to put in a 2nd place finish follow that comment.
he was basically driving solo, he trusted no-one and put in a fantastic performance.
Pictures?
Serena serving to stay in the match?! My goodness.
Raikkonen was 17 points behind with two races to go. Alonso was the threat to Hamilton. Had someone asked Ron about Alonso he would probably have said we were racing Hamilton. Logic dictates that Alonso's strategies were designed to beat Hamiliton and his were designed to beat Alonso but lets ignore a whole season and base everything on one phrase in an interview
Hamilton's performaces dipped a little did they not after Alonso stopped sharing data, or did I imagine that bit?
In China of all places, Alonso even had the wrong tire pressures if I recall. Mind you McLaren seem to make mistakes in China last year they put the wrong wheels on Hekki's car :D
oooh
500+ text messages to a rival organisation during a race weekend, is a little suspicious.
Serena just saved a match point.
This car is about 5/10ths down
Because he said that doesn't mean he was not getting equal treatment. He was being shown up by a rookie of course he was going to blame the team.
To a person in a rival organisation you were going to job interviews with...
They don't know the contents of the texts either
they don't. however. i haven't sent that many texts in my life!
what the hell were they talking about?
Why would the team who were biased against Alonso stop Lewis seeing Alonso's data? That doesn't make sense to me.
Lewis needs a car that oversteers. Alonso needs a car that understeers. How much use is one driver's dat to the other anyway?
I don't text either...
500 text messages at 160 characters at a time...
Maybe it was a 1 to 1 version of twitter? ;)
You obviously arent friends with a bunch of 18 year old girls then...
you think stepney is?
:)
Brawns Laurels http://twitpic.com/91lvl
We could debate this forever, but until we hear Alonso's side of the story none of us really know what went on behind the scenes. In the end McLaren paid Alonso to go away and keep quiet.
I was a McLaren fan in 2007 and loved that Alonso was driving from them, by the end of the season I was no longer a fan and that did have something to do with the statement made by Ron in China it confirmed what Alonso had been saying all season about the the team favouring Lewis.
could've been. still seems suspicious in my mind.
Hehe, its to only logical explanation for that much txting.
Seriously, i have updated my facebook status and got 5 txts about it before, instead of them commenting on facebook.
They love the txt
agreed. or at least, they let him out of his contract.
also 110% agreed.
what i will say, is i still think the man will be a greater asset to ferrari than kimi is.
It was never proved who sent what to who. If it was Coughlan and Stepney in communication about their move to Honda would that implicate McLaren. No-one knows who said what to whom.
Renault on the other hand were caught red-handed with McLaren data. According to the FIA transcripts Whiting went there on his own for a day and a half and found numerous hard copy McLaren drawings and numerous files including 28 back up copies of each. Most of the senior management of the team admitted to knowing of or having seen the files.
I think we will have to agree to disagree ;)
time may settle that one. with any luck anyhow.
a) why didn't they text very much during the week?
b) how much can you say about a potential job offer?
McLaren had date on Ferrari's tyres, thats what was passed from Pedro to Fernando. Along with the brakes which is why in 2008 they weren't allowed to develop them, I believe although I maybe wrong on that.
Soon!
that's how i remember it too.
Why would you do it all by txt?!
W00t!
no-one can overhear you. no-one can ever find out what was said (content doesn't have to be recorded by the mobile operators).
From Wikipedia, may or may not be true.
They were planning a joint approach to Honda. They had to discuss what technical info they had, what strategical info, who they wanted to hire, what they were going to ask for, any questions they had on the technical data they were sharing. They could have exchanged 1000s of texts on it.
The thing is all we know is that 500 texts went between people working for the teams. We don't know how many people. We don't know if the number was unusual. We know nothing.
Got a response tweet from James Allen BTW:
Me: Is it true that Martin Brundle never turned up for the Hungarian GP because he negotiated a holiday clause in his contract?
James Allen: not quite, it started out as him missing a race because of Le Mans commitments and went from there
Sorry to interrupt the ALO HAM RON debate :-)
They do take winning races seriously over at Brawn
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/brawn-factory-sign-jpg
That Martin Brundle eh? :D
Martin also answered this in his inetrview with f1 Racing this week
He did, but wanted to hear what his former colleague had to say as well...
There was claimed t be some verbal info which de la Rosa texted to Alonso but none of that appeared in th transcripts and in two weeks in the factory with a team of people they found nothing. That is impossible unless there was nothing to find as was shown with the Renault situation where Whiting on his own found masses of data in a day and a half despite Renault having plenty of warning. Renault still have the data too.
Nice! :D Kinda like Ferrari's practice of 1 flag per race win.
Serena-Dementieva is an epic!
hehe, dont worry, i posted it in the heat of the debate ;)
According to Nigel Roebuck txt could have been designed for F1. They all use it all the time
Still prefer Lotus' approach
Stick 'em on the rear wing.
Looks like a Lotus thing to me
I think Williams used it too - not quite sure what stickers they used, though.
At the end of day, McLaren employee's saw Ferrari data:
2007 has no bearing on what will happen to Alonso should he join Ferrari as he as learned from the experience and also won't be going there are reigning champion. Ferrari last year stated they give there drivers equal treatment these days until it is impossible for one driver to win the championship, Mass overtaking Kimi in China last year.
Ross said it was their version of Ferrari's red flag
Serena's through to the final, that was very very close.
agreed. and he'll do better than kimi has these past 18 months.
A LOT closer than I thought it would be.
Can Venus complete the double now?
But will he get his own hat?
Vettel to Ferrari rumours are appearing again.
There must be some bored people around this week.
On a non f1 note - I really want one of these!
he would make a great jnr team mate to Felipe!
i hope not :)
Except he is contracted to Red Bull next year ;)
contracts are there to be broken :-)
Alonso would be good for me at Ferrari, i dont like him,. I already like 1 of their drivers, liking both might make it very difficult to keep hating the team
Now that's an argument I can follow! ;)
There is only evidence that Mike Coughlan saw Ferrari data. de la Rosa and Alonso had data that was never proved to be from Ferrari or ever proved to exist come to that as Max decided to exempt them but not to use the data they had as evidence.
If you don't use 2007 to judge what Alonso will do at Ferrari what do you use? You have to use something to decide to give him a huge salary and part of that has to be how he will behave if he is put under pressure. The only time he has been put under pressure is 2007 and he cracked.
McLaren has always given its drivers equal treatment since Ron took over the team.
Very true but I think Red Bull would fight to keep him, and I think BMW have links with him so he'd end up there.
i like new ferrari.
Why? Before Kimi went there did you think he would be this bad or did you think he would be a success?
I thought he would be success. And he was, unfortunatelly only in one season ...
I hate them a little less.
But the stench of 'Evil Empire' doesnt wash off their walls too easily
It's all the usual stuff. Alonso to Ferrari, Vettel to Ferrari, Kubica to Ferrari.
We had it all last year and we ar going to go through the whol thing again this year and no-one is going to go
will you like an alonso-new ferrari? ;)
Coughlan passed the information to de la Rosa, who then shared it with Alonso. I remember Alonso asked where the information had come from and de la Rosa said Coughlan.
David David Coulthard would disagree.
Ferrari having their post season event in spain instead of italy is a little telling though?
Woops :D
If you mean post todt and schumi then so do I...
I've debated 2007 too much my friends all thought I was crazy for supporting Alonso over Hamilton being British. I couldn't care less :D
DDC wasnt as quick as Mika, he knew that, the team knew that, but i don't recall him being asked to make sacrifices for the team in the first couple of races of each season
before he went to ferrari i thought he was a car breaker, but that turned out to be mostly newey.
i thought it was a mistake though, because i thought the cold mclaren way of going racing suited his personality. i figured it would be another ron+finn relationship.
yes. so long as domenicinally stays.
Audi have unveiled the goodwood monument, do you guys want to see or would it ruin the surprise?
that's exactly what i mean :)
That was never proved. Alonso said it but it was never proved.
He had the same car and the same chance. He didn't get equal attention but that was because he was not as good. Had he been better than Hakkinen he would have got more attention.
Ron always gave every driver equal chance and backed the winner. It was team Lauda until Prost dropped into their laps and itbecame Team Prost. Senna went there and everyone said he was crazy because he would never get a break. He drove Prost out of te team and it became Team Senna. Ron would always back the dominant driver but he gave the others equal chance to prove themselves.
First I heard of that. But the rumours will come round anyway like the Vettel one.
It was in the emails, thats what the FIA used to charged McLaren.
Oooh it's boring...
Nationality is irrelevant. You have to look at the available info. I don'tsuport particular drivers I look at the thing as a whole.
Only the last race in 1997 and the first in 1998.
I like it, it is more gracefull than the older ones
Sorry, did you just say a Scotsman was not as good as another driver? Have you been out in the sun too long today? :D
It's only got 1 good looking car on it.
I want to see it but I am not going. Make sure if you post a link there is a spoiler alert for anyone who is going
much better than last years.
Lee McKenzie is going to goodwood to
flirt with medo some work for toyota...The FIA used the evidence found by Charlie Whiting as the basis of their charges from what I remember of the transcripts.
I'm aware of that, I'm just tired of debating it. I still get stick for supporting Alonso over Hamilton.
If you were the defending champion arriving at a new team wouldn't you want to team to do whatever they could to aid you in defending your title?
Does this work involve Timo?
Hey all.
Ok...
DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK IF YOU ARE GOING TO GOODWOOD AND WANT THE MONUMENT TO BE A NICE SUPRISE WHEN YOU GET THERE!
http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsGallery.aspx?AR=241264&EL=-1&IM=253318
i would at least want the team to listen to me.
apparently... but i am hoping she will be mainly focused on me...
I never favour a driver based on nationality. Coulthard wasn't even the best driver in Scotland when he was at McLaren and in his first couple of seasons there he said so himself. Had McNish been Hakkinen's team mate Mika would never have lasted at McLaren
The FIA reopened it after emails were sent to Bernie. The drivers were told, give us the emails and we won't charge you with anything, hold back and it will be costly later.
There is no one watching the tennis!
Yeah, yeah. If she goes anywhere near Timo, you have my permission to remove her.
Ahh that's better ;)
Didnt he drive for Toyota? why didn't he last?
Of course but I would not go in with my hands tied behind my back. I would get it in the contract and ensure that I had my guys in key positions like Schumacher did at Ferrari. There was a clear template to follow.
Equally if I had Alonso's weird driving style and needed a car that could deal with extreme understeer I would not go to a team who continually produced cars that didn't even flatter Coulthard's slight understeer style over more tail happy team mates.
Equally if I was Lewis Hamilton I would set out to de-stabilise my reigning world champion team amte and let him know form the start that his easy life as clear number one was history. That is what Lewis did spectacularly well.
Much better than the Land Rover rock thing. A return to form I think.
I don't blame 'em, it looks like it's going to be a whitewash!
He drove for Toyota when he was 32. He should have been in F1 at least ten years earlier. Toyota at the end of their first season made the insane decision to get rid of both of their drivers who had done a year of testing then a year of racing for them. Didn't make sense to me.
McNish is one of those drivers who just never got a break despite everyone knowing how good he was. He is another on the list that should have been keeping Schumacher's figures down to something more reflective of his ability but didn't/
I would have gone!
Stoopid summer schedule meant i had to turn down tickets for tomorrow :(
Boooooo.
Why does all the good stuff have to happen on the same weekends?
we only have about 6 weeks of summer in the uk.
I have seven.
Gonna stop showing off
You are lucky. We only have a few days
True, but is there anything happening the weekend after next?
I want more summer... :( :P
you don't know how lucky you are.
back in my day we used to hold a desk lamp over our heads for 42 days and pretend to be warm.
You had Desk lamps... oooh i would have envied you... we had to strike matches every couple of minutes just to remember what the concept of heat was!
I want less summer. Shall we swap climates?
Maybe, this one is still new to me, im gonna try it out and let you see how it goes
I have a suntan from Norway. I love Global Warming!
a-ha!
I thought it was the TV where the sun was supposed to be shing?
shining*
:)
Apparently Oslo is a Giant TV then...
I tried to post something about global warming without being contraversial, and i couldnt
they must've cut that line?
Isnt he the guy from the tv show with mrs bucket?
When I say we have a few days I mean a few days where we don't have ice on the ground
Matches? Try rubbing two sticks together!
That's him
Sticks! By matches i meant tiny sharp stones which flung 1 or 2 sparks and burnt us... that was the only escape from the bitter cold we had every day of the year!
Christine, You should reecgnise this sketch. It was recommended to you on your blog
The BBC want people to email in Questions for DDC to answer at the German GP...
Anyone going to send one about Ron?
I think I wll send one asking what the extra D is for?
Earlier James posted:
:D
We could ask him who is going to drive for Ferrari next year. If only we had had this conversation before Silverstone Christine could have asked Rob. Just realised if Alonso wants Piquet as his team mate and Felipe Baby leaves maybe Rob will leave too.
Did his dad not get on with Ferrari or am i confused?
I've just turned on the safina-venus williams match.
the scoreline.., uhh... isnt safina no. 1?
I'm at a loss for words, really. Serena took just under 3 hours to win, Venus might just need the 1.
Woah...
Its probably something to do with Bernie's medals system ;)
When they were coming out, i started making my dinner. Now ive finished it al, it's nearly over!
Now it is over. ;)
And thats it. Subdued much!
Another Williams champ this year then!
Mercifully so. So... Venus or Serena? I was picking Serena, but this match blows it wide open for me. Venus in 3 sets?
In other news, Stosur is winning in doubles.
i have a feeling that the name Williams will be going on the Wimbledon trophy again ;)
Least a Williams name will get on a trophy in at least 1 sport. Sorry sir frank. :P
From the Wimbledon live blog:
"Avoid the bagel!" shouts a lone voice from the back of the crowd, like a harbinger of dough-based doom.
His dad didn't get on with anyone. He has a juvenile sense of humour an alienated almost everyone
Don't tell anyone, but so far, I've been having an alright Thursday.
Why are your Thursdays always rubbish?
So far I've been having an alright Friday. Now its time for bed though. Night all.
Don't say it out loud
Because Thursdays are rubbish. I don't know why. Most people don't like Mondays, I don't like Thursdays.
Me too. Night, everyone.
On that note I feel the same for Wednesdays...
44°C!
44!
Went out for a little while and it's much cooler outside than it is in here. All but 1 PC's switched off now. It's ridiculous!
At least the Air con chap is coming tomorrow between 8-10am to fix it!
Tell me why I don't like Thursdays... Tell me why I don't like Thursdays...
I don't like... I don't like... I don't like Thursdays...
(actually I don't really mind them but todays has been a bit strained)
scott's silverstone video has already gone awol. did FOM find it already?
In which case, I really hope they didn't delay the post because of the video.
oops!
Yeah I made the mistake. I was checking how to spell his last name and managed to put David in twice. :D
Bulgarian grand prix in 2011?
Bulgaria?
What the hell am I going to find to eat from there? I'm having enough problems with Germany - it's all pretty much unappealing...
Flibster melts into a Flibble?
They do awesome steak kebab things which are big enough to feed a family!
Its even been hot here. First for everything
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/bulgarian-firestick-jpg
I ate it all!
RG, you wouldn't fancy a laptime contest on GP2 would you? You can choose track and year.
:P
Oooh. Gotta admit, haven't played on it in ages.
I was on the 94 Silverstone earlier. I knew it was a little different, but it seemed to only be at the last corner where they extended it......sort of (I suck at explaining).
Goodwood update.. bbc london says it will rain on sunday
Oh that reminds me RG, I noticed you can get Goodwood track for GP2 : O
goodwood guy on the 1show now
Its the guy from easy rider
Ooooh, not bad at all
I wrote a piece when Alonso was supposed to be going to Ferrari straight from McLaren about him and about a point that has never been addressed. If he could not cope with th calm atmosphere at Woking without blowing a gasket how is he supposed to cope with the pressure at Maranello and with the Italian press? {Comment #267}
The Renault environment doesn't look as calm as McLaren. The trouble is that Renault are liable to quietly centre themselves around whoever happens to be Flavio's favourite at any given time, something which cannot be guaranteed in the slightly more complicated political atmosphere at Ferrari. Yes, a 1-2 "team order" situation is possible, but it takes a mighty amount of effort to convince the right people in the team to actually pull it off.
& he spend all of 40 secconds on the subject
what do rally drivers get paid these days? 40m seems excessive, no? {Comment #284}
Only half-a-dozen get paid anything in WRC, from what I heard at Autosport...
They have A1 ;) {Comment #306}
Had. I'm not sure a series that's gone bust would be quite Kimi's cup of tea...
Evening :D
Hi :)
Has it actually gone properly bust yet? I heard the UK team has gone though...
Oh look - Anakin has a new lightsabre made from meat. :D
Actually, you can't beHayden Christensen, showing far too much emotion. ;)
If Christine's here she has a lot to answer for!!!
Uh oh. What have I done?
Almost.
It actually topped out at 45°C in the flat.
Thats probably why the aircon broke - I was keeping the living room and kitchen at 20°C and my playroom at 16°C
Hahaha. After listening to your debrief, I absent mindedly filled my car with premium fuel by accident and it cost me a fortune!! I blame you entirely :)
16 sounds a little cold!
It's lovely. :D
:D
Filling my car up costs a fortune anyway. £1.05 at the moment for unleaded. :(
50 litres of which last for all of 200 miles. :D
Ahhhh, but you can be part of the experiment and let us know if you can feel the difference :)
Leadfoot!
If I drink Premium Beer and get more drunk than cheap beer, does that validate your experiment as well?
Wankel rotary...
...and a lead foot. 9500rpm is very addictive. :D
I could help with this!
I think that is a different experiment.
This cost a fair bit more than £1.05.....
Are they really that bad?
I am debating a RX-7 Turbo, but i suspect the insurance will hit me before the fuel
Looking at the local stations online, I could well pay up to £1.22 for v-max-ultimate-powwwerrrr!
then you can join in the experiment too.
Have you guys started yet? How is it going?
I average ~18mpg in the RX8
I can on longer journeys get to 25mpg
Oil consumption is also around 500ml per 1000 miles
RX7 Turbos require regular rebuilds at 60'000 miles or so - more frequently if tuned up a bit.
Lowest I've got is 11mpg.. I may have been ragging it a bit. ;)
Lowest I've seen on a tunes RX7 Turbo is 2mpg :D That was running 600bhp and 3 rotors.
The scientist in me doesn't like your experiment.... You need to fill each others cars up so you don't know which week is normal and which is ultimate.
not well. blog updates soon.
Except I know that it doesn't make any difference to my car. ;)
we're going to i think. but that'll come later.
:)
Right - off out again. Need ice.
Lots of ice. Enough to fill a bath with I think.
Hmm.
Yikes!
The proper scientist in me says that you need to do this as a double blind test.
The driver in me says you need to see how much faster your car accelerates!
You're the Universal Soldier now?
But fun...
:)
:P :D
If only - my injuries don't go away. :(
They're diesels....
Still slowly in a cloud of black smoke. ;)
Do they do V-power diesel?
I am learning something new
but so much cheaper to run than yours ;)
they do.
Does it make the car sound like a Ferrari?
we'll blog it later.
My Brother in law who drives a diesel would like to disagree with you.
They're fast - if you know how to drive them!
*doesn't understand...*
My RX8 is cheaper than the Alfa I had...
Actually, it's also cheaper than my Landy and the Lancia...
My little Fiat certainly hasn't suddenly become a Ferrari that's for sure.....
I look forward to it...
I am in final goodwood preparations.... leaving in 2-3 hours
I am sure i havent packed something...
which brand did you go for?
tickets?
Arent rotary's supposed to be more efficient per bhp?
Or am i making this up in my quest to get them in f1?
I have a panda. You're not allowed to make fun of it just to warn you because I love it!! :P
hehehe
That's OK - I like you!
Watch out - Christine might think you have a different kind of panda...
Evening all :)
hehe!
i meant which brand of super fuel though.
i don't think she knows you can get a panda car?
Uh oh...
WHAT????
see.
Now we've done it...
Didnt they used to call police cars panda cars?
Oh! BP
There's one on my way to work. I'm too lazy to move off my route to get cheaper stuff.
back when they were black and white? i think so.
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/01/yingying190107_228x393.jpg
???

???
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1289/861889038_7363126725.jpg?v=0
???
i don't think there is any cheaper stuff.
pls keep us up-to-date on if you notice anything different though.
Tesco is cheaper by about a penny a litre here. Asda's about 50p off that again but it's a long drive for me to get there so that'd be pretty stupid....
That flipping ultimate stuff set me back like £1.15
That'll teach me to pay more attention....
My mum had one. It had a little sticker with a panda-mum and her baby on the back. I can't remember what happened to it, probably nothing good
Sim racing news - Superleague Formula game has been announced by ISI, the same guys who do rFactor/rFactor 2.
http://www.virtualr.net/superleague-formula-game-announced/
it's a bit pricey. agreed.
Oh joy. I get to drive for my team now.
Ironically there's an rFactor mod in the works anyway...
MrsC have you seen the panda plane...
I may have taken this googling too far...
Don't like the way the don't consider us as a 'notable club. We are notable. We beat Dortmund.
hey everyone :)
evening :)
hey lou
Hi Lou :)
everyone had a good thursday?
1300cc - 231bhp - normally asperated.
It's not bad. 177bhp per litre
Fuel consumption is that of a V6 though.
Hey,
Yes... Goodwood -2 hours and counting :D
you know the gates don't open until dawn, right?
even christine... apparently.
I was thinking the other day that because of the engines structure, a hybrid drive system could probably be built into it far more effectively than a piston system.
F1 is supposed to be going to hybrid engines in 2013, so there is hope!
Alreet, batting with a cut finger is awkward
Packed my bags for this motorsport festival you guys mightve heard of, got a haircut without being brawnmowered and walked into a door. All in all, a productive day all round!
ahh good to hear! it's been a good thursday for me too. i'm thinking someone tricked me and i actually slept through thursday...
hehe, Heading down there tonight to meet everyone and move in ;)
you're camping?
First Batch of Norway Photos (more to come)
This official game better be free then...
Cottagi....
Staying in a cotagge in a nearby village
Phew, that's me stuffed full of chicken korma with pilau and naan. Seriously, that's filled a hole!
ahh, nice one.
Wow... Sunsets look amazing!
Oh yeah, decided earlier I'll take a pad and paper just to write up a couple of notes in the evening about the day's events and everything, that I'll type up when I get back, otherwise I'll miss out loads trying to remember! :)
Kinda like a delayed day by day commentary I suppose... but not necessarily day by day.
Me too!
You, sir, need an iPhone... ;)
I also have my 16 gig memory card clear so i can do some filming over the next few days :D
I wanted to go to goodwood more than a new phone :)
You sir, need a new mic for your laptop :(
Well I can't go to Goodwood but I'm going to Roskilde tomorrow to see Oasis :D
I don't think it's my mic. I think it's Skype dropping calls.
Have you tried Skype on the iPhone itself? Seems to work well on the 'touch...
For some reason, I can't make or receive calls via Skype. Something about "contractual reasons" according to the message that came up. So Skype bring out an app for the iPhone, yet if you're on a contract you're not allowed to use it - Huh?
i'm going on a school trip to Cambridge tomorrow, and i'm somehow very excited about it :) hopefully i'll take lots of photos, i wont get to watch the murray match though :(
Wow.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,529539,00.html?test=latestnews
Sounds interesting... Google it and see what you can find out...
I think this was it:
""Skype calls over 3G networks are currently not allowed due to contractual restrictions. For more
information,see www.skype.com""
You can only use it when connected over WiFi
Beat me to it
What Nick said
Plus, only really has 3 moving internal parts. :D
Hmm, think I had WiFi and 3G connected at the same time. Maybe there was a contradiction.
If WiFi is connected, 3G won't be. Check the symbol on the screen's top left
Hello :D
ooh, to sightsee or to learn things?
Scott,
You are most welcome to try and call me on Skype to test it...
I know a few people from my school went to Cambridge for a bit of a look around and a few lectures
One sec, I've got a couple of things on the go at the moment.
to visit the uni, and then have the whole afternoon to do what we like :D so basically a treat for the end of AS exams, tis free travel and stuff which is great :)
I did that at oxford... best thing i ever did because i was very close to going there!
go punting!! It's pretty cheap (iirc ~£3/hour each for 6 people - max you're allowed in a punt) and so much fun. :)
i'm no way Oxford of Cambridge material, but i think looking around it will still be fun, plus i'm going to try and persuade my friends to go on those boat things... punting i think they call it?
ooo that cheap! that's awesome! some people said it was really expensive...anything else you would recommend us doing? other that trying desperately to find out information on the murray match ;)
Yay, skype on my psp works. Happy RG
Oslo Part "Un"
It's only expensive if you want a chauffeured one - don't do that!!
The shops are alright - apparently there are sales on - and the market's always worth a wonder around (it isn't big); there are quite a few greeny bits - Jesus Green, Christ's Pieces, the Mill Pond or Parker's Piece - they're nice to chill out on - or there are a dozen or so coffee shops - chains mostly - if it rains. As for the tennis, I wouldn't know, you could probably find a pub showing it somewhere.
does that mean we have to steer ourself? cause i know i'll be falling in if that's the case...
hopefully it wont rain :) either way we'll all have fun exploring no doubt. i may even take some pics and put them on twitter (as a practice for goodwood ;) )
Actually, am scared. That means Kathi will find me now
*Switches PSP off*
:D
you've fallen in the water?
yes :D
I've never known anyone fall in accidentally (deliberately, yes, but not accidentally). The part of the punt you stand on is pretty wide and the punt people will explain the technique. Plus, every group usually has someone who will have a go first if you're not so sure, then you can try later. Trust me, you can't be as bad as I was the first time I punted. Zigzags :)
ahaha no, not yet... maybe tomorrow though. it's just my luck to be the one the steers/ falls into the river.
hmm..i think we definitely want to go punting, but what we do is going to be up to money i think :)
springsteen uses an autocue when singing?
I just love the fact one of his guitarists is Sil from the sopranos, and his drummer is Max Weinberg from Conans show!
Can someone explain to me what #moonfruit is on twitter? People keep using it. Its annoying me now.
i know lil'stevie. who's the other, and how come they all became actors?
Website builder, according to Google.
web hosting company i think. they want your blog.
in short, tweet their name for a chance to win apple products.
they can have a slap for annoying my twitter feed
The other guy is from the tonight show with Conan o'brien, Jay leno's old show.
Think Jonathon Ross, but better, funnier and on every weekday
He is the drummer, and band leader, does some skits , but generally just gets mocked
pr backfiring then :)
i think i'm going off twitter.
Oh. My. God.
Next F1 readers' panel e-mail recieved - they want questions for Bernie.
ahh, right. like the keyboard player from letterman? (who looks a lot like the keyboard player from the e-street band).
Dear Bernie, what's life like being a walking washing mop? Furthermore, have you heard from Disney about starring in Beauty and the Beast 2 as one of the singing household items?
just as f1 drivers start to sign up to it? ;)
Yes, but Conan is funnier ;)
He loses points for not having a racing team though
*plugs ears* lalala
:P
Piquet was seriously annoying earlier.
Dear Bernie,
who's on pole
currently:
- open tweetdeck
- vanity search for sidepodcast
- respond to any spc references (thanks etc)
- close tweetdeck
i do that maybe once or twice a day. seems a bit pointless.
:D
heheh.
Only thing that annoys me about Piquet. He's. Still. In. That. Renault.
:P
Dear Monsieur Bernie
I know you are now the supreme leader of the planet these days, if this is the case, can we have a bit more rain, its a bit too hot. Further more, can we have more race tracks in the north east and finally, since you are supreme leader of the earth, do something about a Mr Max Mosely, you may of heard of him. He's being a bit of a pain at the minute, so we wouldn't mind if you lowered the forced retirement age.
Cheers Monsieur Bernie
RG
but rubens isn't... plus it's helping me learn Portuguese ;) what did Piquet do?
oh. you don't even like it over a race weekend? when you can talk to 5live?
Some kind of competition to win prizes if you follow him. At least ten nonsense posts in a row.
have only gone off it in the past 4-5 days. just find i'm not using it so much.
will likely have it open during the parade lap.
They were having a twitter battle ;)
ergh, that sounds very annoying. at least he is consistent though, annoying on track, annoying on twitter ;)
:D
suppose he can't fall off of twitter.
It is becoming too corporate
Facebook at least managed to put a little bit of control on it
He will win a race one day and prove everybody wrong!
i think being able to buy followers might be the last straw. we shall see.
GP2 doesn't count
But Facebook has too much crap in it too - too many ads and quizzes!
DC did that and proved nothing ;)
Ah, but PK will do it with more style!
in yellow?
Why are people that obsessed with their number of followers anyway? more followers does not equal more interesting.
I fear he will have to move to another team, but when it happens jaws wll drop!
People who think they can sell stuff...
not sure to be honest, but i guess it's the only way of rating popularity?
The same thing annoys me with Facebook and friends. hearing people having over 1,000 friends and then say they only know a handful of them just confuses me.
and sort of youtube as well. After I put the Vettel video on youtube I got a couple of comments (from strangers) telling me I should add more tags to get more viewers. Why should I be interested how many people watch my videos.
I'm not on any of the myface or spacebook or twitter or that lot.
I have no friends so no point. :D
PK wants you to be his friend!
Hmmm... airbourne bacon time.
sidepodspace update
The third attempt to launch the STS127 space shuttle mission will be at 7:39pm Eastern on 11th July or 00:39am 12th July in the UK. That is going to cause trouble. Different time xones are problematic but different days are just confusing. I am tempted to open a Wiki page so that people can guess the time this one is called off and guess the fault. NASA claim that they have absolutekym definitely fixed the problem that caused the first two launches to be cancelled so that is good.
And everyone's aim in life is, of course, to be famous, or at the very least, popular.
The new monkey island game looks fantastic.. might have to dust off the old wii next week
true enough.
IwantthatIwantthatIwantthatIwantthatIwantthat...
All time favourite series of games are the Monkey island games. You fight like a dairy farmer!
http://kotaku.com/5306270/tales-of-monkey-island-+-not-one-of-those-wet-bones
i like the way it gets more exacerbated!
How appropriate. You fight like a cow! ;)
:D :D :D :D :D
You hear that? That's me exploding in a fit of excitement. I can't stress enough how much I love the Monkey island games. That looks BRILLIANT!! And it has Dom voicing Guybrush!! Weeee!!
Sorry... geek moment.
Oslo Pt. Deux
I love laughing at unfunny things...

Looks great, i have always wanted to visit Norway, might try it one winter to get a real Scandinavian feel!

Right goodwood time... Will switich to mobile commenting in 20 mins when i am on the train...
The adventure begins!
You know, because of that video, I'm gonna call her Chewbacca from now on... which isn't very nice really!
Damned talking dogs.
See ya on the train.

Darts finished, thats me for the day. Those going to Goodwood, enjoy it. See the rest tomorrow afternoon.
he's no bazil brush, is he?

The adventure has stalled :( Trains are quote 'missing' how do you lose a train?!
careless.
Someone tell the fat controller!!!
Last album from the Oslo Trip
I enjoy taking photos - I take too many and then it takes aaages to find the good ones!
you cannot take too many photos sir.
Well I certainly enjoyed it! It was fun messing with my camera...
they're very good. do you not have a flickr account btw? only FB can be a little exclusive.
I do. I think I'll upload them there then...
do like when you have. if you're quick christine might be able to squeeze them into the daily... christine?

if you create a set, you can link to that?
I'm heading off my laptop now, gonna re tripledoublecheck everythings packed and ready and get some sleep ready for goodwood. Sooo i probably won't speak to you guys next week now... will try and tweet whatever i can!

Ok will do...
Adventure back on! We have a train! Goodwood baby! Yeah!
lukeh, have a brilliant time!
yay!
Seconded! Take some pics and video - would love to see and hear those lovely cars!
And if you see a marshall waving a flag from a wheelchair, say hi to him, his name's Steve Tarrant :)
Hi guys, LTRFTW. Been listening to the Sidepodcast podcast for a while now, liking the content very much. Yet to discover live commenting and live broadcasting, so something to venture towards. I'll do my best to leave a voicemail from the World Series by Renault this weekend. I'm off there on the Sunday, so I'll try and find a quiet period, if there is such a one, amongst the socialising and racing, and report my feelings. Been tempted to leave a Tremayneing voicemail about the chaos between FOTA and Mad Max, but I think I'd swear too much, so you'd have to get the bleeper out. Peace out guys!
hey turkey machine. appreciating your comments.
lots of people going to wsr this year, don't forget to add yourself to this page if you get the chance.
see you sunday! :)
wohoo!

Should we organise a meet-up spot?
More to follow, then I'll add comments and stuff ;)
if you know anything about it sure. have never been, so am little use :(
Adventure update train holds more in common with an 09 mclaren than is ideal
love it!
Maybe next year, eh? It's a decent day's racing for free. :P
As for a meetup, I thought maybe we could all meet for the pitwalk before the race. Reckon that would be pretty cool.
we really should, certainly.
I *LOVE* the Megane Trophy cars. Look and sound like they've been overdosed on a cocktail of steroids and unnamed energy drink.
time for me to head off to bed, i've run out of plugs to charge things in my room so only have minimal battery life.
night all! x
night lou.
G'night Lou, have fun in Cambridge!
Night Lou

Actually my battery's running low as well. That and I need to be up at half 6 tomorrow for work. Morning all :)

And everyone’s aim in life is, of course, to be famous, or at the very least, popular. {Comment #817}
