It is essentially the halfway point of the year today, with 182 days gone, and 183 still to go. On the one hand, this year is absolutely flying and it's ridiculous that it is July already. On the other, I feel like June went really slowly and Le Mans seems like eons ago. Anyway, here are some things we're discussing:

  • Abu Dhabi seems to be flavour of the moment, with a Yas Marina circuit being released to allow fans closer to the track. I couldn't get it to work, so have no idea what the under grandstand bit is like. However, the track gets a mention in F1 Minute and the Big Pic today, so their marketing is clearly working!
  • Kimi Raikkonen will be officially rallying in a World Rally Championship event in Finland at the end of July. With Le Seb doing Le Mans, and Kimi rallying his heart out, which other drivers could take part in other series?
  • Bridgestone have announced the tyre allocations for a further four races, with Hungary and Valencia taking the two softer compounds, whilst Belgium and Italy stick with the medium and soft variety. Does this actually mean anything though? For a viewer, the only thing that matters is soft versus hard, rather than one of four individual compounds. Another Bridgestone fail?

That should keep us going for now. There should be some more excellent tennis on later, which is one bonus for us hitting the last week in June and first week in July already. I'll see you in the comments.

Seems like a really interesting guy, must ask him for a job if i see him

    What?

*that was text so it wont be funny, so imagine it out loud ;)

Do you need ear plugs for goodwood?

    yes.

Another car for Flibster if he is still around?

    yes.

I dont really remember wearing them last time i went, but i will pack some old cheese just in case...

  • Steven Roy30/06/2009 at 23:48

Do you need ear plugs for goodwood?

Oh yes. You can be standing inches from an F1 engine warming up. We tried to get Goodwood to issue free ear plugs to everyone after last year's event when amongst other things I saw a guy pick his baby out of a push chair abd hold it next to a Ferrari V12 being warmed up by an over-enthusiastic mechanic. The reply we got was less than encouraging.

Do they at least sell them there?

I think $5 million is just over his budget

  • Steven Roy30/06/2009 at 23:51

I didn't see them anywhere. It was early in the morning when I saw the incident I mentioned and I had a look everywhere I went for the rest of the day and didn't see any anywhere.

Perhaps, but i think i would take it marginally over a fleet of formula masters cars

  • Sean Golding01/07/2009 at 00:03

That wouldn't have mattered. I had to go to the shops to get milk and there was no car for me to take. No matter when I got up I would've had to have done it.

    Seattle at Yankees.

For some reason I adopted Seattle as my city for US sports as a kid, and it worked perfectly until they took the basketball team away!

  • Joe in Fla01/07/2009 at 00:47

Home run for the Rays! 3-1 Rays. I'll try and tie it into F1...somehow

I have no idea, baseball is weird, the unwritten rules carry more weight than the written ones. Hey wait, that sounds like F1.

  • Nick01/07/2009 at 00:58

The new pepsi logo is really weird, i'm kinda lad they haven't used it here

I look forward to them. I remember during the podium ceremony for the 2007 Brazilian GP there was this brunette belting out the Italian National anthem, that was captivating. I suspect she works in the press office for the team. I am the only F1 fan at my fire station and when the camera focused on her, everyone leaned forward from their recliners, so she attracted some interest to F1. Did you run into her?

He did DigitalF1+ earlier in the decade - but he did it too soon and got burned money-wise. That may explain his hesitance to do it again.

That is a fabulous service. It looks like every sport in the world provides a better service than the high tech F1

Of course you could just watch the video http://www.atdhe.net/

Only if Bernie can learn from American sports websites

Unfortunately he is all about the short term...

If youtube is tied into USF1, we might see a broader F1

It won't make a lot o difference because Bernie controls the rights and won't give an inch. The only thing you may get is stuff from inside USF1

Morning everyone... Just reading an article on Autosport about the demise of A1GP (behind the paywall I think): http://www.autosport.com/features/article.php/id/2254

There is a great quote in there from John Travis who designed the A1GP cars talking about how to ensure there is overtaking in your sport:

"We were given information about where F1 was going to go, but I'm afraid I disagreed with what they've done," he states. "I don't think it's the right way to go. We went back to wide-track and slick tyres. We wanted to produce at least 50 per cent of the downforce from the underwing, because for me that is the less sensitive part of the car to the turbulent wake. Our front wing philosophy followed what we'd done in Champ Car with Penske in terms of wing position and endplate design. We looked at the turbulent wake and we tried to incorporate that philosophy into this car. We didn't have time to investigate lots of solutions, so we went with what we knew worked."

Well I guess he's at a loose end now...

    From the Beeb Wimbledon blog:

0937: Roger Federer faces the unenviable task of returning 6ft 10in Ivo Karlovic's serve in the first match on Centre Court today. I can think of better ways to spend an afternoon.

It says the tall guy has hit 137 aces in his four matches so far, but King Rog has an 8-1 record against him.

Roger is the only one smart enough to be able to deal with his stupid serve and throw him off balance :D

    Builder's Breakfast

    Cajun Squirrel

    Chilli & Chocolate

    Crispy Duck & Hoisin

    Fish & Chips

    Onion Bhaji

Gotta be honest, none of those appeal!

You should immediately go and listen (if you don't know it already) to Joe's T.A.L.L Song by Joe Cornish from Adam and Joe.

    Lyrics go:

I'm six foot three and a half you know,

that's the height I go, and my name is Joe,

too tall to fit in a photograph, or a standard bath,

    I'm a man giraffe.

Them airplane seats are too small for me,

    I get DVT,

    In economy.

Change lightbulbs without a chair at all,

    in the Albert hall,

    I'm ascendable,

Hit my head a whole lot more than y'all,

    I'm a human wall,

    I've got far to fall.

Do I look like Robert Duval at all?

'cos I'm tally tall, not smally small.

    My clothing has more material,

    I'm imperial,

    'cos I'm really tall.

My close friends tend to be rather small,

    I don't mind at all,

    It's acceptable.

So sing this song if you're six foot 1,

    or Jeff Goldblum,

    or Dolph Lundgren.

I'm six foot three and a half you know,

that's the height I go, and my name is Joe.

I'm about to head out for dinner, so I need a sidepoddecision. We're going to a healthy burger place. Do I get:

    a) grilled chicken breast, avocado, crispy trim bacon, salad, relish and herbed mayo; or

    b) grilled lamb pattie with avocado, tasty cheese, salad, relish and herbed mayo.

I'm leaning towards option b because I don't think I've ever had a lamb burger before and the idea intrigues me.

  • Alex Andronov01/07/2009 at 09:36

It's important because in my opinion with lamb you really need to be careful about the cheese choice.

It's definitely on par with that Human League song that goes:-

I suspect it's been dumped altogether. Perhaps they (finally) realized that it didn't do much for the racing at all.

I thought I mentioned that earlier - I guess my comment didn't get through. Unreliable Internet connection. :(

  • Stuart C01/07/2009 at 09:41

It’s important because in my opinion with lamb you really need to be careful about the cheese choice.

With you on that one. I'd go for feta or halloumi. Any more for any more?

  • Stuart C01/07/2009 at 09:43

Perhaps they (finally) realized that it didn’t do much for the racing at all.

Press release includes a quote from a bigwig:

“We have made the change to the tyre allocation concept based on the data we have collected from races so far this year combined with our knowledge of the tracks we visit for these races. The cars of 2009 are very different to those used last year so we have learnt a lot so far this year, and they do use their tyres differently from before.Hungary is a circuit where the characteristics demand our softest tyres. This is also true for street courses, and we used the softest allocation earlier in the year at Monaco, and will again in Valencia. In Spa the weather temperatures can be quite cool, so the hard compound could have caused difficulties, and the super soft would have been too soft for this track, so that means the allocation of medium and soft is obvious. Ah-ha! A lesson in how to say 'we were wrong' without actually saying it :)

  • Alex Andronov01/07/2009 at 09:45

You're like that woman out of Species

I think I'm gonna go to pieces

Greatest lyrics of all time (or not)?

    Life - Desree

    I'm afraid of the dark

Especially when I'm in the park

When there's no one else around

    Oh I get the shivers

    I don't wanna see a ghost

It's the sight that I fear most

I'd rather have a piece of toast

  • Alex Andronov01/07/2009 at 09:46

With you on that one. I'd go for feta or halloumi. Any more for any more?

I think that's your lot. Possibly goat would work, but I haven't tried it.

  • Christine01/07/2009 at 09:47

I'd rather have a piece of toast

And watching the evening news. Don't forget that bit.

What we need is some lovely person with ace design abilities to create us a new logo with the new slogan catchphrase thing, so we can make t-shirts, bags, keyrings, clocks, mugs, mousemats, etc, and make a mint :)

"the first half of the year" they say. ie, 4 races. A sad day for NZers in F1 :D

Fifth driver not showing up for me today for some reason :-(

  • Alianora La Canta01/07/2009 at 11:00

I've been spending the morning trying to sort out my education arrangements for next year. At least being unemployed is good for something...

  • Dank01/07/2009 at 11:01

According to Dank, he'll be focusing on his Euroseries F3 campaign.

Seems also that Alguersuari has his heart set on a seat at Toro Rosso for next season, which might be possible. Bourdais isn't setting the world on fire with his performances this season and Alguersuari has the backing of one of the world's biggest oil suppliers Repsol.

Hartley bless 'im isn't having a stellar season in the F3 Euroseries this year.

My only concern is that at least Hartley has had some experience behind the wheel of an F1 car in testing last year. Alguersuari's done straightline testing and er, a couple of demo runs in the Red Bull showcar. If he's called upon to take part in practice, qualifying and a 90 minute race, he's going to struggle regardless of how fit he is?

  • Alianora La Canta01/07/2009 at 11:01

Fifth driver not showing up for me today for some reason

Wonder if it's the same reason as me, i.e. Twitter still won't work?

  • Alex Andronov01/07/2009 at 11:02

Talking of giraffes (we were earlier, weren't we?)

I suddenly thought that perhaps that is the real reason Mr C can't reveal his true identity? Perhaps he is a man-giraffe?

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 11:02

And now, a sidepodcast special presentation:

    The Dinner Of Amy.

On a fine winters evening (approx: 13 degrees) Miss Amy Lee and Kiwi flatmate Miss Jaimee Lee (seriously, NZ parents are not imaginative with naming) headed to the world famous Lygon Street (Ferraris spotted: 3) for dinner.

Dinner then had to be bought home because Miss Amy Lee had promised the good folk of Sidepodcast pictures of her burger, but forgot to take her phone or camera. Smart.

    Exhibit 1: Burger

    Exhibit 2: Half-completed burger

Exhibit 3: Gelati. Flavours shown are Italian Butterscotch and Cookie Mud, hiding underneath is Pistachio. Miss Amy for once did not get the Coffee or Mocha flavours, and feels this is an achievement as these are what she always gets.

Exhibit 4: A lovely beverage to wash it all down.

That is very true. The 2009 testing regulations don't appear to do much for the upcoming stars of the future. Perhaps they need to have some in-season "exhibition races" in their respective teams' F1 machinery? It would be the perfect way to plug the three-week breaks.

    Yep. It's just cheddar.

Have just checked, there were six flavours:

    Builder’s Breakfast

    Cajun Squirrel

    Chilli & Chocolate

    Crispy Duck & Hoisin

    Fish & Chips

    Onion Bhaji

    Gotta be honest, none of those appeal! {Comment #206}

I made the mistake of trying the Chilli & Chocolate and Onion Bhaji flavours. They just seemed to accentuate the cardboardy flavour of too-thin crisps...

I'm just finding certain elements of the off-line world incredibly stressful. It's nice to be able to just relax here, but off-line is draining my creative juices a lot. I'm even struggling to get the motivation to get me a domain name and I really should do that...

  • Alianora La Canta01/07/2009 at 11:15

    There is a great quote in there from John Travis who designed the A1GP cars talking about how to ensure there is overtaking in your sport: {Comment #144}

Well, F1 managed the slicks, even if Max threatened to withdraw them if they made the cars quicker - but the track got narrowed in order to reduce the influence of sidepods. Did the latter outweigh the former?

  • Christine01/07/2009 at 11:15

Maybe they should reserve one of the FPs (I suggest FP2) for young drivers only. That way, the young drivers get to do some running. Of course, with no spare cars being brought to race weekends anymore, they'll have to be careful not to crash the car.

  • Journeyer01/07/2009 at 11:20

    You need it for cereal. {Comment #28}

Yoghurt works as well, especially if you're having cereal on the move. A favourite pre-lecture snack for me in the university days was cornflakes, crushed wheat biscuit, raisins and a full pot of strawberry yoghurt.

  • Alianora La Canta01/07/2009 at 11:23

you are in the wrong place, this is siderogcast

He is being a little boring today, could at least have dropped a set to make it interesting...

Nice dinner, I am very jealous ;)

Although the chicken option does sound very good

Who does he think he is!

It's not his fault Karlovic only has a serve :D It's literally the only weapon in his arsenal :D

  • Nick01/07/2009 at 12:49

I like the way he is playing in sunglasses, i wonder if he has a Heads up display behind them...

    Too true. :)

    Here's a picture of it, since I didn't buy it :D

  • Journeyer01/07/2009 at 12:50

    Lewis Hamilton, obviously. ;)

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 12:52

You have to pay 65 quid to join his fan club?

It's just Team McLaren by another name, the only difference is the membership card and apparently the shirt this year. Last year it was the same. I'm still bitter that McLaren make him a flashy site and Heikki doesn't even have a site of his own.

  • Nick01/07/2009 at 12:52

    I heart beetroot in burgers

  • Maverick01/07/2009 at 12:54

You have to pay 65 quid to join his fan club?

There isn't a lot to choose between the drivers when you allow for what you get in return. Or at least there wasn't when I conducted some hard hitting undercover journalism (or something vaguely like that) last year.

I think I remember DC seeming to be the best value for money.

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 12:59

I Spy Kate Winslet at Centre Court

  • Maverick01/07/2009 at 13:00

You could join Piquet's fan club - £39 gets you an Ing cap and 2 photos - woohoo!

  • Alex Andronov01/07/2009 at 13:01

I Spy Kate Winslet at Centre Court

Amy... Just a heads up... Normally I Spy would be played like this...

I spy, with my little eye, K W

And then we all guess Kate Winslet.

    ;)

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 13:02

And then we all guess Kate Winslet.

I normally play it "I spy with my little eye, something beginning with K. (long pause) and ending in "ate Winslet"

  • Alex Andronov01/07/2009 at 13:03

I normally play it "I spy with my little eye, something beginning with K. (long pause) and ending in "ate Winslet"

Just because she's on center court... It seems a bit mean to eat somebody!

    Soylent Green is Kate Winslet!

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 13:13

oh Roger, wrapping it up quickly not just for me, but also for the crowd who probably only want to see Murray. Such a gentleman.

Haas has also taken Set 1 over Djokovic.

  • guille230601/07/2009 at 13:15

oh Roger, wrapping it up quickly not just for me, but also for the crowd who probably only want to see Murray. Such a gentleman.

It will stop being a gentleman for the crowd when he'll beat Murray... ;-)

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 13:15

Haas has also taken Set 1 over Djokovic.

I like that that game might take forever, because my TV station is hanging out for Hewitt and they are trying to build up to it but they have nooo idea when he'll be on :D

  • Journeyer01/07/2009 at 13:16

oh Roger, wrapping it up quickly not just for me, but also for the crowd who probably only want to see Murray. Such a gentleman.

Wait, don't the other folks want Roger to win late so they can get home before Murray starts?

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 13:16

It will stop being a gentleman for the crowd when he'll beat Murray... ;-)

I watched a little of Murray v Wawrinka and the crowd were horrible. If they're like that again, any of you Brit's wanna go down there and give them a lesson in tennis watching? It's really not cool to applaud peoples errors. It's just not the done thing. You applaud the guy you likes winners, not his opponents errors.

  • Christine01/07/2009 at 13:17

Just tweeted about these pillows, they are v. cool: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6956228

  • me01/07/2009 at 13:18

It's really not cool to applaud peoples errors.

we applauded massa spinning at silvertone. we applauded piquet going off at copse.

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 13:20

we applauded massa spinning at silvertone. we applauded piquet going off at copse.

but tennis is the 'gentlemans game' and it really doesn't happen anywhere usually. The players often mention in their interviews that the Wimbledon crowd are super polite and are probably the best crowd for not doing it at all.

  • me01/07/2009 at 13:21

but tennis is the 'gentlemans game' and it really doesn't happen anywhere usually

sounds boring. i salute and cherish incompetence.

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 13:21

sounds boring. i salute and cherish incompetence.

other peoples misfortune is my favourite kind of humour and entertainment. When I watch tennis I do it silently in my head.

  • Maverick01/07/2009 at 13:21

You applaud the guy you likes winners, not his opponents errors.

They're positively friendly compared to the French open and absolute angels compared with the Davis Cup...

  • Christine01/07/2009 at 13:22

sounds boring. i salute and cherish incompetence.

Does this mean in our tennis podcast we will not end up with a song like "Fiiiive Massa Spiiiiins, spins, spins" ??

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 13:22

They're positively friendly compared to the French open and absolute angels compared with the Davis Cup...

I will admit, the French are terrible. Davis Cup tends to be since it turns into a giant patriotism fest. Wimbledon crowds have been excellent this year for all matches I've seen except Murrays.

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 13:23

Does this mean in our tennis podcast we will not end up with a song like "Fiiiive Massa Spiiiiins, spins, spins" ??

"Double fault for Verdasco, oh what a shaaaame at least he triiiiiiied?"

  • me01/07/2009 at 13:25

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 13:39

Federer appears to be a little bit good...

I think this is the easiest QF he has had in a while.

The real question is what shampoo does he use? His hair is always so shiny and bouncy.

  • Journeyer01/07/2009 at 13:39

Federer appears to be a little bit good...

Just a wee bit. Once Federer breaks Ivo this set, this game will be as good as done.

I think Henman's best was 4th in the world, whilst Murray is 3rd.

Did you see Tim on Jonathan Ross last week? He said he didn't play for 18 months and has no desire to do so, doesn't even miss it. I find this odd.

That seems very odd to me yes. Greg R was saying he still plays a lot and enjoys it much more now.

So he hadn't had even a warm up game at home against his wife? Crazy! And interesting.

  • Christine01/07/2009 at 14:37

Hold on... I saw him play the exhibition game with Clisters against Agassi and Graff the other week.

Thing is, Clijsters played and it made her want to come out of retirement. Henman says he likes working two weeks of the year and having fifty weeks off.

Both my racquet needs restringing. No rush though, trying to get near a tennis court until the middle of July is murder. By then Wimbledon-inspired crowd should have lost interest again.

Cos it's the ATP tour, I think.

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 15:39

    why are there no women?

the mens and womens tours are separate most of the year, they play the slams together and 2 or 3 other tournaments but they play about 60 separately

I exaggerate a little, I think Serena played 13 last year - they're both too busy doing their clothing labels and since seedings are based partially on World ranking, they come out lower than their real ability.

Think of all the pizza you could get delivered for the same money. Instead of lounging around in your PJs you are going to get dresssed, go outside to see some nutter sing and probably be disappointed.

At the rate celebrities are going down if you buy tickets put a bet on her dying this year that covers your ticket price. A lot less hassle than claiming money back from the promoters

  • Amy01/07/2009 at 16:41

Then wouldnt a different concert be better for you?

I just have this horrid nostalgia for 90s music. Nothing seems to cure it.

Now - did he leave, or was he pushed? I suspect the latter.

I figured that either F1 isn't fun anymore or no one reads the daily threads. Both are acceptable excuses.

I tried to get the racing driver bits game started from yesterday's daily thread but no-one followed me. We all know what Amy's answer would have been and we have a fair idea about Lou's but it would be interesting to see what everyone else thought.

10 days to put up a report does seem excessive. It's not like they had to record a 2 hour video and edit it into a 40 minute podcast.

  • Alianora La Canta01/07/2009 at 17:33

    my brother stole my racquet when he left home because “it didn’t make sense for him to only have one” {Comment #428}

I've never had my own tennis racquet. The house racquet game is sqaush and I never had the hand-eye co-ordination for it. Mind you, with my record of seven tennis balls on the school roof in six weeks of playing tennis in lessons there in Year 11, it would be reasonable to argue that I don't have the hand-eye co-ordination for tennis either...

The only racquet sport where I can reliably keep the object being struck anywhere near the playing area is badminton and even that is a bit hit-and-miss!

I spotted that one - the trouble is that after 36 hours I still have very little idea on how I'd reply. My idea of which attributes are necessary for a perfect driver are such that I worry that I could put contradictory parts together that would end up making the driver less than perfect overall...

I think you have to ignore the logic of it. I had Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Ayrton Senna and Gilles Villeneuve together. I like the arguing, if there is nothing much going on it does help keep things interesting. Mike Gascoigne was brilliant in China, but i suspect if he was there every race a lot of people would complain he is boring.

On some subjects EJ does need to shut up... KERS, how Jordan once employed everyone in the F! paddock, but saying stuff like Kim should be suspended is fair game in my opinion

Well, maybe if the Italian Parliament hadn't accidentally permitted peer-to-peer music sharing last year, this problem wouldn't exist (quite so much)...

bugger. tis ace on a mac. although it hates flash, really hates it.

I only had a doohickey, an lclt and two tabs with standard web pages on them and if I typed a comment it was taking 5 seconds for a letter to appear after I typed it. I had no flash and nothing else that should have been comsuming resources. I closed down Safari and opened Firefox without a re-boot and ended up with 20 plus tabs of Firefox and no problems what ever.

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 21:08

Just saw comments about earplug requirements at Goodwood. I would say not because it isn't sustained noise as it would be at a race meeting. But we already established my hearing levels the other week.

  • Aitch01/07/2009 at 21:09

The weather people are calling for temperatures in the mid 30's for later in the week, it's not going to be fun for those of us who have to work in this heat.

  • lou01/07/2009 at 21:09

i found them pretty useful when i was standing in the f1 paddock and they were firing up the engines last year. i say have them with you ;)

are you guys all planning to meetup somewhere?

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 21:12

    i disagree.

I would have them on standby during the 90s and current F1 cars. I personally don't think they are necessary for the other stuff.

  • Steven Roy01/07/2009 at 21:13

If you are in one ofthe paddocks where they are warming up several engines within a few feet of you they are very useful.

  • Lukeh01/07/2009 at 21:13

good man. where'd ya buy them?

just a shop in our city centre that does stuff like that, i asked him for ones that would be useful for very loud cars rather than trying to sleep or something, and he gave me a funny look but gave me some that look good enough for the job, not some cheapy foam stuff :)

I also looked in Boots and the employees said ear plugs didnt exist which amazed me.

  • Nick01/07/2009 at 21:14

That would be good, i am taking my camcorderwith me so might do a video blog? I am not sure.. will see how it goes

    We should really :P

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 21:14

are you guys all planning to meetup somewhere?

I'm still deciding whether or not to go - the reason being there is my cousin's wedding the day before and I'm trying to establish how hungover I will be :-)

But I'm leaning toward ringing to see if there are tickets left tomorrow and letting that make the decision. If there are, I'm going, if not, I'm not.

And if I'm going I'd hope to meet up with people!

  • me01/07/2009 at 21:15

Ta. I may set up a couple of people so i get their replies on the phone, usually I have that turned off.

Sending tweets seems to be patchy for me despite the messages successfully sending from the phone - and I hope Twitpic works this time, it completely failed on the museum meetup.

If you want photos of drivers being in the start area before they run is a good time because they arrive early and normally getout of the cars and take their helmets off while the cars ahead are running.

No they usually run in this sequence:

Leave paddock to go to turning area.

Turn around and line up at the start line.

    Run up hill.

    Turn around.

    Return to paddock.

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 21:49

you won't get very good pics from the start line unless you have a seat there. where steven mentioned (the paddock) is the best place. the start from there before they go to the start line (if that makes sense?).

  • Steven Roy01/07/2009 at 21:49

They do two runs in the day, morning and afternoon. If it were me I'd spend one trackside and one in the paddock (just 'cos you gotta see these cars trackside).

I have been very close to the start area without a seat. The other option is to get a position at the top of the hill because the drivers normally get out and sign autographs. Just be prepared to be trampled by kids.

  • me01/07/2009 at 21:51

They do two runs in the day, morning and afternoon. If it were me I'd spend one trackside and one in the paddock (just 'cos you gotta see these cars trackside).

i'm beyond helping, rg. but nick needs a wiki hand.

    Nick, right, will do sir.

  • Nick01/07/2009 at 21:52

Hello. What do you need Mr C?

oh i was trying to asdd myself to the twitter list but i cant work the wetpaint to do a word on top of a link

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 21:53

true. but then you miss out on the good pics at the top of the hill.

ahh too much to see and do!

  • lou01/07/2009 at 21:53

you won't get very good pics from the start line unless you have a seat there. where steven mentioned (the paddock) is the best place. the start from there before they go to the start line (if that makes sense?).

ooh right i'm with you. :) okay.

  • Lukeh01/07/2009 at 21:53

true. but then you miss out on the good pics at the top of the hill.

in times like this you ask yourself...

...where can I get hold of a stretch armstrong?

  • RG - The Fisi of Sidepodcast01/07/2009 at 21:54

oh i was trying to asdd myself to the twitter list but i cant work the wetpaint to do a word on top of a link

    Should be all ok now.

  • lou01/07/2009 at 21:54

They do two runs in the day, morning and afternoon. If it were me I'd spend one trackside and one in the paddock (just 'cos you gotta see these cars trackside).

yep tis what i'm planning. the f1 cars go up at 11:50 (well in that batch) and again at 3:25.. just after the red arrows... not that i've been looking at the timetable or anything.

  • Nick01/07/2009 at 21:55

    Should be all ok now.

    Thankyou!

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 21:55

true. but then you miss out on the good pics at the top of the hill.

I think I asked this before but I forgot - how long does it take, roughly, to get to the top of the hill from... let's say the track crossing on the main straight?

  • Lukeh01/07/2009 at 21:55

yep tis what i'm planning. the f1 cars go up at 11:50 (well in that batch) and again at 3:25.. just after the red arrows... not that i've been looking at the timetable or anything.

To be fair you have a better timetable then me which is currently:

    Enter. Do stuff.

  • RG - The Fisi of Sidepodcast01/07/2009 at 21:55

    Thankyou!

At your service. Shall resume lurking now.

  • Nick01/07/2009 at 21:56

...where can I get hold of a stretch armstrong?

I have one, it leaked and permanently attached itself to my megadrive.

I think collectively they are a unique piece of mid 90's chic

  • lou01/07/2009 at 21:56

true. but then you miss out on the good pics at the top of the hill.

i was at the top of the hill last year but stood too far away, even though i was at the front. i may need to do some more planning.

  • Lukeh01/07/2009 at 21:57

I think collectively they are a unique piece of mid 90's chic

That basically is a combination of melded awesome.

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 21:57

To be fair you have a better timetable then me which is currently:

    Enter. Do stuff.

This is also my timetable, only I'll add:

    Enjoy

The last times I went I was so obsessed with seeing every last thing and taking photos, I forgot to sit back and enjoy it properly.

  • lou01/07/2009 at 21:57

i'm only obsessed with making sure i get to see the f1 cars and the other 1/2 of the hill :D i think i may need to go and calm down, just the thought of hearing the cars is making me way too hyper for a wednesday.

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 21:59

Those crisps flavours from earlier... I tried all those Walkers ones.

  • Lukeh01/07/2009 at 21:59

    Hehe :D

I'm excited as hell for it, now I'm out of work it's really dawning on me on how close it all is and how freakin' cool it's gonne be for a first timer like myself. :D

  • Nick01/07/2009 at 22:00

I think I asked this before but I forgot - how long does it take, roughly, to get to the top of the hill from... let's say the track crossing on the main straight?

half an hour at a reasonable pace? it's single track through the trees, so you can only go as fast as everyone else.

  • Steven Roy01/07/2009 at 22:01

i was at the top of the hill last year but stood too far away, even though i was at the front. i may need to do some more planning.

I was at the top last year just after lunch and Lewis ran early because he had to go somewhere else. He was signing autographs and passed about 3 feet from me.

  • me01/07/2009 at 22:01

    completely clueless.

  • Alianora La Canta01/07/2009 at 22:02

    I also looked in Boots and the employees said ear plugs didnt exist which amazed me. {Comment #884}

The earplugs I've used for the past several years have come from my local branches of Boots. I think your branch's employees need their training updating by about 80 years...

    Who won the quiz tonight?

  • Lukeh01/07/2009 at 22:03

@RubberGoat - not quite, it started out as him missing a race because of Le Mans commitments and went from there

In reply to gavin asking about Brundle's hungry hungary holiday

wow, i forgot he was going for a second... will it be the same for Jenson do you think?

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 22:05

i'm only obsessed with making sure i get to see the f1 cars and the other 1/2 of the hill :D i think i may need to go and calm down, just the thought of hearing the cars is making me way too hyper for a wednesday.

Heheh, I want to see cars on the track. I'm not much of an autograph-hunter but I do like the cars. One of the main reasons for me wanting to go is the history of WilliamsF1, and the chance to see a lot of stuff I otherwise wouldn't at a normal race meeting.

  • Steven Roy01/07/2009 at 22:06

wow, i forgot he was going for a second... will it be the same for Jenson do you think?

He is going to be a lot more popular this year. The only places you can guarantee he will be is at the start and the top of the hill.

  • Pat W01/07/2009 at 22:06

half an hour at a reasonable pace? it's single track through the trees, so you can only go as fast as everyone else.

Thanks, I'll have to check out the programme and see when the best time to go is, wouldn't mind a look up there.

It is a really good idea because she will be board a lot of the time and the vast majority of people won't kno or care who she is so it will probably make her day if you go and talk to her.

I have forgotten how awesome iplayer is on the ps3, its like a whole new tv channel

It kinda bugs me that the Wii and PS3 have their own versions of the iPlayer and none on the 360 because of no browser support, and even though the Xbox 360 is having personalized twitter/facebook/last.fm stuff this year, I would take iPlayer application over any of them...

....except maybe twitter. I loves ma twitter.

I read a while ago about the iPlayer being personalized to the Wii's browser now in a similar/same way it does for the PS3. Haven't tried the Wii way yet but the PS3 browser and iPlayer combination is fantastic.

  • Scott Woodwiss01/07/2009 at 22:47

Hey all, just quickly dropping in. :)

Something which was mentioned earlier about DC and EJ arguing. One day it'll go too far and then...

    Jake Humphreys: "So, Scott..."

    ;)

  • Lukeh01/07/2009 at 22:48

    Jake Humphreys: "So, Scott..."

    It would be awesome!

Although you can never hold EJ down.

  • Scott Woodwiss01/07/2009 at 22:51

I learned a lot of things from Scott's video... But the main thing was Scott wears glasses. That I did not know!

Then you, sir, clearly do not know me at all! ;) :D :P

Yes, I have worn glasses for, must be at least, 5 years now.

  • Scott Woodwiss01/07/2009 at 22:52

I haven't actually seen my video yet! Or most of the professional pics! Must look now! :D

So if I set @replies for certain people to go to mobile, it would only work on Voda? I'm on Orange.
