We're midway through the week now, and apparently it is National Anthem Day in Romania. I don't quite understand why an anthem needs a day dedicated to it, and I can only imagine that it means the song gets played a lot. That being the case, I hope Britain doesn't have a similar special day!
- Massa is getting better and better by the day, apparently, and Gavin uncovered this post about a care package to be sent from fans to the Brazilian. Sounds like a really nice idea, and hopefully there will be lots of good stuff to keep him entertained as he recovers.
- Lukeh wrote an interesting post on Monday, about how Formula 1 is expanding and changing. The two maps are very interesting, and Lukeh has some good points about how the calendar is evolving.
- Also, for Sidepodradio show hosts, there's an extra column on the wiki for you to fill in your progress. Don't forget that Friday is the deadline for pre-recorded shows, and you'll probably want to prepare if you're going live.
That'll do it for now. As ever, if there's any news breaking throughout the day, you can share it in the comments, but I guess it will be fizzling out what with the factory closedowns. I'll see you in the comments.
There is a lovely new daily post that everyone is ignoring. It's really nice over here
i didn't even realise it was a new day :s
It's been here for hours.
me neither. i have officially used my email more in the past 24hrs than i have in the past 6 months.
Oh my gosh question 9 left me wondering for a long time!!
Sending the mp3 over your way now mr c.
hehe yeah i just got your email, lol. strangely enough i was clearing out my inbox the other day and i came across the photos you sent me of the Brawn during it's first test when i was at school and wanted to see what it looked like. lol :) it made me giggle.
i remember that. i wouldn't believe it until i saw it. and there it was.
hehe twas certainly the prettiest f1 car on the grid in melbourne :P even if it's not the fastest anymore...
oops lukeh did a post on f1's locations on monday, I did one yesterday.
Sorry about that, i went away for 3 days and am still wrestling my way though the RSS backlog!
Actually both were different so I read both!
just asked f1 scoop if they thought the bmw/toyota things was coordinated. the response:
"we understand authority 2 sign Concorde agreement @ BMW is @ board level. Curious this comes so soon after a BMW board meeting!"
ah thats good,:D just starting Lukeh's now...
Mine might not be that brilliant, i was a bit upset at the time and trying to distract myself....
nick sir. am in a perpetual state of confusion... what did you say about the blogging interview? am just updating the wiki page.
I dont think i am a proper blogger.... ;)
I promise not to have a blog and not to answer questions if that helps.
you have x2 blogs?
:P
I hadnt updated the politics one for over a month untill today!
I try to do what I can.
impeccable timing.
Which makes it very strange that i seem to get between 3-7 people reading it every day! :P
That's the internets for ya
we still get links from christine's first f1 blog:
http://dailyf1blog.blogspot.com/
See, in this interview, i'm actually really serious and the answers make sense and they're quite good for once, then suddenly... I mention pringles.
D'oh.
haha. we wouldn't have it any other way.
i haven't received it yet though?
OOh.. sidepod history!
Shall i leave a comment?
Nothing wrong with that
Are you saying pringles are not serious?
can do. i doubt she even has the login any more.
Google is taking agggggggggges. :(
tis abotu halfway done.
Urm.. wait till sunday. :)
Is google slow for you guys today as well?
good stuff. it it's too big. create yourself a free anonymous drop on drop.io and mail me the link. seems more reliable than email sometimes.
Scratch that, google decided to wake up :)
Sadly I will be "outside" and will miss the whole thing
Boo hiss. I hate phone calls from drunken men....
It says it's sent mr c, so... fingers crossed
Hold on. Are you saying girls don't really love that sort of thing?
Can i see the questions before i decide to do it?
If its about blogging then i have no more ideas than the next gopher, but if its about what i am writing then maybe I can say something interesting?
will forward in a second. i appear to have x1 massive email coming down :)
Google mail has a setting that will prevent you from drunk emailling.
Oh I couldn't possibly say that.... At least I wasn't asleep I suppose, that's something to be thankful for
The questions are idiotically simple and you can answer them anyway you want.
Haha that's immense, how does it work?
I'll stop then
received you fine chappy. sounds great.
Hah, I hung up on him and he sent me abusive text messages that can't be repeated on your family friendly website :(
ahh have read the questions, they aren't that bad :D will record them when i'm able to make a noise my parents wont hear... so probably when i get home tomorrow or thursday after my driving lesson.
wonderful. ta.
hehe... some do though! I got a txt asking me why i haddnt called her drunk. I txt'd back saying id called her sober. She said that was not entertaining enough...
It's something you have to switch on in the settings. You then have to solve a simple mathematical problem within a reasonable time or the mail will not be sent.
hehe, awesome!
Mr C: Is anyone doing a "call in" show?
There's some people that should just never call you though.....
nope. shows listed here:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodradio
isn't that what flirt divert is for?
Ron Dennis is one....
Congrats on the new show ;)
Okey dokey
Yeah, do you think it'd work if I told him I'd changed my number?
hey don't seem to have invented the internets on the NSW south coast sadly.
depends on the type of drunk... some people are really nasty when drunk.. those kinda phone calls are never nice :(
Is this the radio 1 thing?
Doesnt everyone have that number saved in thir phone so it cant be saved again? or am i the only one that puts this much prep into the terrifying wold of 'dating'?
:) possibly not.
And those are the people most likely to call
really? wow, hadn't considered that.
I'm sure Christine's glad to hear it :)
Only if you don't send him a text from the new number and that he doesn't know Kathi.
So how are you here then?
Shame... Sounds like when some guy cut a cable and most of queensland lost the internet last year.
0121 28 TRACK
Hmmm, it's my own fault really. I slept with him once (albeit a long time ago) he calls me all the time when he's drunk
That's were I will be on the weekend
I think it was Mark Watson who said "Next time a girl asks me for my number I will write it down so the last number is smudged and they have to call up to 10 numbers to reach me. See how they like it for a change."
Hahahahaha I'll totally try that. Call me at home..... :P
In that case we need a host for a phone in show and something for them to phone in about
Right.. I'm heading off laptop and to bednow everything is sorted :)
Night!
Good night Lukeh
g'night sir.
The mobile phone solved this problem though...
If you cant miscall when you get her number its probably not going to work out... ;)
Night Lukeh
can someone please remind me tomorrow, i need to hassle f1 wolf for an interview too?
Got your question MrC
Some of my answers might be a bit silly. As i said ... I am not a propper blogger! :P
email of questions!
no worries. thank you.
are you recording your answers, or should we call?
How many sets of answers do you have?
Night everybody!
I could talk about my interpretation of Felipe (circa Silverstone 2008) lat weekend.
every blogger who comments here. tis only fair, no?
I meant how many have answered already.
I am not sure... i guess calling might be better.. I might be out tomorow night, but if not thursday?
afternoon :)
talking to f1punter on thursday, so that should be fine.
ah-ha! jackie...
oh. gavin and lukeh.
Hi Jackie.
Have you heard the BMW and Toyota news?
got your email thanks MrC
remind you to tweet him or remind him in the comments? lol
yay.
Nope .. been in my bed since I got home, been feeling pants
Cool, if i am not out tomorrow i might be on thursday, so i would say i will leave a message but i guess i will be here anyway :P
ooh. i could tweet him. lemmie do that now.
doohickey needs an offline alerting system.
Thats not good... Hope you feel better soon
Now you're just making work for yourself....
Thank you . seems lots of people aren't feeling too great
:( i hope you feel better soon Jackie.
BMW have called a press conference for tomorrow and the theory is they are pulling out of F1. Toyota are suggesting that they are doing the same.
Not sure if this is part of a FOTA move to get something or if it is legit.
true. i'll stop.
offline alerting system?
Ooh err.. exciting
awww. duvet day tomorrow?
like twitter has. i may as well use twitter though.
I thought it was Williams who were the sticking point to the concorde agreement
that sounds soooo inviting
oh like messaging?...yeah why not just use twitter, or the PM on the Wiki?....lol :D
Hold on, Toyota might be having the big announcement soon too?
So much for having 26 cars. :(
They were supposed to be the problem
talking of PM's and the wiki .. If anyone has some fiendishly easy (or tricky) questions for the quiz on Sunday .. can you send them my way please
Go for trick questions, like "whats the nicest looking car" or "who is the fastest driver"
Oops .. just looked in on PF and there is an article about BMW's announcement *blushes that I haven't been on ther*
:P
Good idea .. I'd like a quick fire round too, hence the request
My guess would be Mav did it
There is a game coming out loosely based on the guy Joe wrote a book about's role during WW2. I wonder if he had any input?
hold on...i may be living in hope.. but... if they do leave... could they not find a buyer? considering f1 is going to be cheaper? and there were already companies that wanted to come into f1 next year but weren't approved, surely one of them could buy the team out?
How many hairs make up Mario's tache?
I might just rage in disappointment if BMW pull out. Keeps the argument going for kicking out most manufacturers.
Nope Mav is on holiday .. twas str8y
If Journeyer has anything to do with the questions I'm not taking part
lol :P
I think any right person would wait 2 or 3 years for the costs to actually come down before jumping in.
I'm hoping that Journeyer and Steven will be the guests .. (I see they were added to the wiki but oh dear, I haven't asked them) but there will be some questions open to comments
Sounds like an odd game.
I'm thinking something like:
What colour is a Ferrari.
What are those big black things on each corner of the car.
Who wants an F1 team in Cologne?
Spy game + Racing levals. Its also a bit arty...
I am happy to do it.
What big black things?
VW Porsche?
haha!
Might be able to use an F1 facility in Cologne
Some of them have green stripes on them
Thanks Steven. I'll get round to do the skype blogger thing for you if you send me the questions. .. Don't think Mav will be back on time though
Oh, true.
oh... erm....well where would they have had the teams anyway?....
I thought the newest fad was big black things on three corners :P
i didn't send them? muppet! shall do now.
When I first saw the BMW story, for a second I felt like when I saw the Honda rumours, the day before it was officially announced. My favoured teams seem to be going. Not only that but Honda took away some of my interest in the sport I say.
You're barred!
that's my song mnah mnah do do de do do
wah!
Mr C is in charge of questions. My job was think them up and record them. I am sure he will send you the list or you can set up a call with him and listen to me read them before you answer them
I always loved that song
Do I just phone the answers to the 0121 track number?
IF the Beemers are leaving at the end of the season maybe they could use the same facilities to develop their sports cars?
After all they used Williams last time didnt they?
whatever's easiest for you. we can call you, or you can record on uphone if you prefer.
blimey, just seen the questions
Morning chaps.
number 8 is amusing .. it would be nice if people did comment on the blog. I can see that they read it, they just don't comment. Actually that has made me consider whether it's worth the effort
I'm hoping the BMW thing isn't withdrawing. Hoping......
number 9 is .. going to take a lot of thinking...
in that case you'll be interested in others responses too.
which is why you must do this, as must everyone else.
Would you blame them after the season their having?
F1 seems determined to self-destruct
is number 9 a post I'd like to write or one I'd like to read from someone else?
I have wondered if a collaborative blog would be an idea. I sometimes have something to say, but never regularly enough to have a blog.
interpret however you feel you should.
I don't think it's a good reason for leaving. They hit their targets for the past 3 seasons, but have a bad one and run away? Laughable.
I'm sure you'd be welcome to write a guest post for others blogs .. see if you like it
you're always welcome to guest post here paul. and i'm sure other bloggers would also welcome posts.
a collaborative blog was tried a while back, but it's a lot of effort to coordinate.
Yeah fair enough. I might give it a go some time.
You are more than welcome on mine if you want to write a bout politics... I have just had a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig gap!
The whole point of these interviews is to get you more viewers and commenters.
It's one you would love to write whether that is about a particular person or event or whatever. It may be a post after you drove an F1 car. Anything you like
they stopped focusing on a season they were actually doing well in... and then this season, one they are going badly in, they decide to focus on until the bitter end instead of focusing on the next season?... they may have hit their targets but they made a mess of what they could have done...
It's a great idea Steven.
I guess it comes down to what do you want from a
your blog .. you may be the kind of person who is happy with regular visitors or the type that needs the reassurance of comments. I guess what I'd like is not so much comment as feedback
jackie, were you around when we did this:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/11/08/must-comment-monday-redux/
we stop it during the season because there's no way we can keep it up, but it might be something f1 bloggers agree to do for each other and we can plug it some more?
it'll likely be back during the winter anyhow.
Well you should say that in your interview then.
This gives you a chance to talk to your audience then and pull in some new people
What are you trying to say?
Although just thinking about it now and flipping lol.
the other teams last year were ready to to abandom KERS, but BMW wanted it to it was in for this year, and BMW were meant to be the big supporters of it...........they've not used it for a few races and won't be using it again
Like you said, they gave up on last year to focus on 09......good job there guys.
And Kubica said he'd leave if they were not fighting for the title.
Overall, BMW made a good account of themselves huh? Rofl.
Ah, I remember the link you used to have to that on the sidebar but I never saw that original article. I'll have a proper read now thanks.
So Jackie, your blog is pitlane fanatic?
righto. must turn in for the night. this radio thing is tiring work :)
catch you all around midday.
Night Mr C
night Mr C!
I think I arrived to late. Everyone's talking about something which isn't BMW.
Yep, I run PF along with Maverick. We've had the site originally the forum and that's will be celebrating its 1st birthday at the end of August. The blog is a new addition that's been going less than two months. If I look at it from an ousider point of view I feel that Mav writes really interesting stuff and is more of a natural at blogging. Me, I'm totally new to blogging and really I guess I lack confidence.
noght night, sleep well
Night
we'll be talking a lot about the tomorrow by the sounds of it.
i guess tonight can only be speculation?
It looks so professional, can't believe you are wanting for comments,
Night Mr C
Suppose. Intitally I thought "Oh crap, don't go!" but as you can see from my last post or 2, I'm now leaning towards "Good riddance."
You could wonder why because of my huge love for Honda, but I dunno why I'm beating down on BMW and not Honda. Guess I love them too much.
Thank you :D
I wonder what poor RG's reaction will be?
I hope it isnt 'At least i have toyo.....'
am in london all day tomorrow so probably wont get to talk/ find out about it till i get home late tomorrow evening.. i hope RG will be alright when he finds out.
Perhaps like me when Honda left, which was utter devastation. Hopefully he'll be able to fully get behind a new team if they buy BMW, something I've not been able to do with Brawn.
Some people are naturals and some are not. i can discuss racing all day in the comments or on a live show but when I sit down to write a set piece more than 9 times out of 10 it never sees the light of day because most of the time I don't finish it and occasionally I will read it and think it is rubbish.
Some people can just string words together in a blog post but I need to find a way to type as fast as my brain goes because when I slow down my brain to my typing speed I lose all track of my thoughts. Maybe I need a personal transcriber.
As long as Timo has a drive I'm sure he'll get behind them
Fortunately he is ill so he won't know but it does look like F1 is picking on him tonight. First BMW then Toyota where Timo is.
You are going outside again? You seem to like London.
Lol are you looking for me to volunteer because I complimented you yesterday? :P
I am trying though Steven .. I have done more since I made my promise .. and I have a piece in the pipeline for when I feel a bit better
Yeah but Timo's good enough for other teams to want him. Does RG actually like the team?
Normally when I volunteer someone I am a bit less subtle.
Do you have a radio show yet?
yep i am... i get to go on a train and everything! i really do, will probably be spending some time on South Bank ( ♥ ) but am off to the IMAX in the evening :D i may see if i can make my friends come with me to regents street... or persuade them i'm alright to go alone, so i can check the news in the apple store/ ogle at all the lovely macbooks.
Just like that :D :D :D
That's all you can do. I need to make an effort and write some stuff soon to. I came up with 4 ideas for my next series of guest posts and wrote a quarter of one and never went back to them.
No-one actually likes Toyota
so while i slept people didnt like the chain, (i heart fleetwood mac, reading that pained me) ron dennis became my father, and 10% of the grid is rumoured to be leaving. Im never sleeping again, things get out of hand.
Remember I got accepted for that Times-online weblog thing as a guest writer .. have I written anything? .. have I heck as like
Dunno what you mean :D
i'm going to hope that someone will buy the team, and hope RG doesn't have to go through a few months of off season hoping his team will race...
Exactly what I'm thinking.
awww morning Amy :)
Your maths is shocking. 20% of the grid is rumoured to be leaving.
Morning Amy. Don't go to sleep again
I would have thought that they would ask you for regular pieces for that.
:D
Morning Amy :)
I doubt anyone would want to buy a piece of wasted crap.
so Amy wont be sleeping, and Steven isn't going to be going out of the house during a race weekend again... who's next? lol
Mr Brawn bought honda...
If BMW or Toyota announce a pull out tomorrow you will be banned from London and Apple stores
blimey did i really just type that!! :( i still ♥ honda.... and Brawn...
Damn, got me there. Though he did have Jenson and Rubens.
is that if both of them announce they are pulling out? or just one?
South Bank Beach party?
I dont remember it but i clearly went a few weeks ago because i have shoes full of sand...
You can't negotiate with superstition
I'm not over Honda pulling out. I dunno about you Lou but it hurt me quite a bit.
oh... no... probably just wondering around as usual... i may wonder up to the tate modern or something :D South Bank is just lovely :D
oh.
If F1 is filled with new teams with no history, it won't be F1 for me and maybe I'd egt into watching something else instead
:D No I don't.
honda pulling out hurt a lot... i think my comments from around that time will back me up. However Brawn buying them out and stuff has really helped :) i ♥ Brawn GP very very much ;) they just seem like the team i loved with honda but without the mismanagement from the people in japan...
I don't know why I don't like Brawn as much. Perhaps because Brawn have been winning straight away, that doesn't feel right for me. I'm not saying it's bad, far from it, but they haven't really "earned their stripes" yet.
their 'stripes' are... well... Honda...
But there have always been lots of team changes. If you look at the history of most of the teams you will find that they are not that old. Look at the two teams at the top of the championship this year.
So what would you like to do a show on?
The name Brawn hasn't been through a tough patch like Honda were.
eeek! just noticed it's 2:20am! i have to sleep... night all! x
And of course Ross has a history of being less than loveable in the past,
Night Lou
it's exactly the same team... the car was built by Honda, but has a better engine in it, and is now owned by a better managed team...
Night Lou
basic maths fail. I must need more sleep rather than none
You make a good point...
Night all
Night
Hah, I'm not very good at that sort of thing really. I volunteered to talk to someone else on their show, I can't deal with actual responsibility though. I crumble under the pressure.... :)
Night Nick
And you are going to be a doctor?
Hahahaha! Yeah. I'd be worried if I were you....
I have an idea. Someone I think Paul suggested a phone in show earlier but he can't do it. Since it looks like we are not going to be starved of F1 news like we thought how about you and I host a phone in show and people can call in and give their opinions on F1? All we have to do is ask a few questions to keep the conversation flowing.
You can do that. Although to be honest you will be lucky to get a word in.
Since you are going to be a doctor, you could do a show on how healthy is F1?
Errrrrm like emotionally? I can't see how if could ever be good for you?
Awww I guess I would be up for that!
The only slot that is still vacant is 11pm but I am sure some of the pre-records can be shuffled if that doesn't suit you
I don't really object to the middle of the night tbh....
OK I will put us down for that then.
I will ask for people to phone in tomorrow and set up a wiki page for the show.
You're very organised
I wish I was. I have a system an it works. I use a chronological piling system
At work and at uni, I can do organised and efficient. By the time I get home, I really just can't be doing with it,.....
Morning, everyone.
BMW might leave, eh? They beat Renault and Toyota to the exit? Dang. How ironic - I was just given a BMW Sauber cap last night.
Here's the possible scenarios:
1. Dr. Mario leaves BMW to run the team on his own.
2. Peter Sauber comes back and they become Sauber again - complete with Sauber colors.
3. The FIA take the opportunity to settle their lawsuit with N.Tech by facilitating the sale/takeover of BMW Sauber's position on the grid.
Take your pick.
Where does Kubica go? I say Brawn. McLaren is a possibility too.
Where does Heidfeld go? Either he stays at whoever takes over BMW or he moves to Manor.
Toyota are also threatening to quit
Workwise I am very organised but always have a messy desk. I can'twork without clutter.
Golly gee whiskers...
Why now, though? Either something happened with the Concorde Agreement, or the boards just decided they had enough.
Alison and I are doing an F1 phone in show at 11pm on sidepodradio. Do you fancy calling us Journeyer?
We heard the BMW one first and thought they had decided they wanted out. Then about an hour later we heard about Toyota and it started to sound like soe kind of co-ordinated FOTA action. We will know after the BMW press conference tomorrow what is really happening. Or at least what the first move is.
It's way past time I was in bed. So I will say good night.
I will miss the PF quiz tomorrow night as I am going out to a football match. Don't know if RG has sent his questions in yet because he is ill and said he won't be able to do his sidepodradio show.
We seem to be thinking along the same lines. Hmmm. We shall see.
Doesn't quite seem like the summer break yet. ;)
Night night steven :)
Ooooh. What's the show about?
If it's good enough, might wake up early enough for it. :D That'll be 6 AM Monday morning for me. ;)
Just before I go I should say Joe's team got a good result in the baseball tonight so he should be happy if he is around
Night.
Night, Steven.
We are going to take calls on anything people want to talk about on F1 since it looks like we are not going to be starved of news. You can call with your Alonso to Ferrari rumour if you like,
Monday? Don't you mean Sunday? Sidepodradio is on Saturday isn't it?
Eh? I thought it was on Sunday?
*Runs back to check*
Cool! Will do. :)
Date: 2nd August 2009
Sunday it is.
Sunday BST, so Monday PHT.
Whoops. I thought that the 2nd was Saturday. My bad.
I have to get up on Monday though. Hmm, whats more important, Sidepodradio or first day of semester at uni...? ;)
Obviously, Sidepodradio. :D
Exactly. I'm not even sure why I was contemplating it. ;)
That said, it finishes at 9am here, I don't think I'll be listening to ALL of it live.
Not even I can pull that off. Will try to listen to as much of it as I can. :D
good morning, anybody els suprised that BMW has something important to say ?
Yeah. At least with it being on Sunday rather than on Saturday I can catch the start of it. I was going to miss the first 3-3.5 hours on Saturday.
I wish they would announce it. I am recording my show for Saturday and can't mention it since everything i have to say has to be evergreen.
whatever they plan to say it will not take long :-) the press con is today
sure it does not have to do anything with the plan to have the concorde signed this week ...
I smell a mass exodus coming. Either that or FOTA is going refuse to sign a deal till after the FIA election. That would be some major leverage against Todt and Max.
or simply BMW board decided they are not in position to commit to F1 till 2012 ... at the end FOTA is association of teams, not the manufacturers ...
Absolutely. I can see where they are angry with the sport. BMW wanted to push KERS and other technologies. F1 turned its' back on their priorities. I can see them switching back to LeMans. or something of that nature.
Well, even though there's a horrid gap in races (I'm with Williams on this one) there should be plenty to talk about in the break.
Massa, Gene? Schumi? BMW dead? Piquet? Kubika to Ferrari?
etc
etc
etc
Who needs racing when you got all the horse trading and speculation?
But wow, for BMW to drop F1 after 1 bad season would be disappointing. They've only been around 4 seasons - they've had 3 great seasons, then the bad one this year...
:D This'll make Nick happy.
Agreed. If everyone left after a single bad season, we would have no teams at all.
Indeed, indeed.
Presscon is 10 AM Munich time? Just over 3 hours to go, then.
This ruins Joe Saward's vacation too. :D
I will be just finishing my afternoon coffee :-)
Coffee, not tea?
if he stays clear of news than his vacation will not get harmed :-)
coffee :-) team I am drinking now, as I type, the peppermint one
With Toyota being rumored to be on the chopping block and Renault potentially being sold to a Russian, it could indeed be quite the exodus.
tea, not team :-)
Too much F1 talk. ;)
that's it ! I was afraid it was because of my clumsy fingers :-)
I wento to dig the Autosport archive to compare how the Honda and BMW exit expectations were reported:
Autosport Dec 4 2008:
Autosport Jul 28 2009
They look rather similar. What should I be seeing here? :)
nothing really, just that the history repeats itself. and both were written by the same Mr Noble
by the way, I see lot's of talk around about Toyota also planning exit (like a fresh talk) but haven't read anything on that . did they say something while I was sleeping last night or what ?
hmmm. from the style of writing, i sense that this isn't FOTA maneuvering. it's just history repeating itself.
just a rumor, nothing confirmed. i think it's similar to when Honda withdrew - the Toyota rumors came out, but they might be nothing more than speculation.
oh OK, the never ending Toyota rumours. well if they decide to stay (Toyota) I wold not mind, but should repaint their cars ...
:D You should've seen their 2001 test livery - it makes the liveries after that look gorgeous by comparison...
This sounds all a little too suspicious. Is this a power play against Mosley and Todt? Is the new concord agreement that bad?
The Noble connection isn't much of a surprise. It would seem that Autosport only have one journalist left!
:D He's a very good one, though.
Absolutely.
It could be, but when you consider that:
1. Dr Mario himself was confident they were close to getting one signed
2. Previous fallouts between FIA and FOTA became public very quickly
This might not actually be FOTA-related.
Morning everyone.
So this move from BMW would release Kubica and Heidfeld from their contracts in all probability. Anyone want to predict Kubica to Ferrari for the rest of the season?
This season is going to have a huge number of contract changes I think.
If BMW do announce they are leaving are they putting the team up for sale or closing the doors. Presumably up for sale.
The factory location is not very conveniant for any new buyer.
Could be, but would Kubica accept a half-season deal with Ferrari, with no guarantee for 2010?
At least 6 new seats and some expiring contracts will do that for you. Making up for the flop that was Silly Season 2008. :D
I guess so.
Even if no one buys the factory itself, I'm pretty certain we'll see a lot of interested parties ready to buy their spot on the grid.
I think a lot of people are going to disappointed with what they will be offered. If BMW, Toyota, and Renault leave and all we are left with is a bunch of small teams, there is no way they can pay whatever Kubica wants.
I think if BMW does leave, I think you can lock Heidfeld to Williams. I think that is a match made in heaven.
I am offical
I am officially done with 17 minutes of my radio show for Sidepodcast radio. I forgot how hard it is to produce these things.
Good point there... Heidfeld-Kovalainen at Williams, then? With Nico off to McLaren and Kaz out of F1?
I think it would still be in Kubica's interest.
1) He would have recent information about how Ferrari do things
2) Whatever team he hopes to go to next season will not be able to give him a drive for the rest of the year.
He better beat Kimi, though. Otherwise, his stock will decrease significantly.
Hmmm... I have Kubica in FR. I might need to sell...
It's not very easy is it? This is a masterstroke by Mr C and Christine reminding us of how much work they put in!
that was always expected with so many drivers out of contracts after this season (with or without teams pulling out or entering)
I've let him go for now. But if he does end up at Ferrari, will rebuy him. :D
but with recent events, it'll be HUGE now.
ALex Wurz would be perfectly positioned :-)
Good point, there. They could be a potential buyer.
Assuming the project is still alive.
somebody tell me, why would Nico want to go to McHamilton ?
1. Fast car
2. Good friends with Lewis
3. Lack of good seats anywhere else
He'd better not, I like Nico.
How funny - you don't want Nico at McLaren because you like Nico. Amy doesn't want it to happen because she hates him.
:D
Fast car that may win him races but never a title, taht is for the other guy
Good friends - how long will they stay that way in one team ?
Lack of good seast - Well, with teams pulling out and budgets coming down, Williams may not be that bad seat ...
what is wrong with my typing today ...
Nico might come back to Williams later - but I sense he'd rather try his luck somewhere else right now.
Alonso and Trulli stayed good friends throughout their time together at Renault. It can be done.
but where ?
McLaren - would be a mistake I think
Ferrari - the queue in front of their dood is overcrowded already
Brawn - will they be any better that Williams next year
Toyota, Renault - why on Earth would he do that
Red Bull - all set there
Toro Rosso ? The new teams ?
Just realized - it's so easy to forget that as recently as 2001, Ferrari was the only F1 team that made both their own chassis and engine.
BMW was originally an option, but that's out the window now. I think he'll try his luck at McLaren.
rememeber however that McLaren is all about Hamilton
and please lets go back to those days ...
McLaren was Team Prost before a certain A. Senna came along.
If Nico thinks he's good enough to beat Lewis, what's to stop him trying it?
Those days of Ferrari domination? I wouldn't mind that. :D
Not sure what Mr C would think of it, though. ;)
well he can try, but there will always be the moments like when new updates only ready for one driver (rewind to Nurburgring) ...
well, Ferrari dominated from 2000 - 2004 ...
FYI: No PF Quiz tonight as RG is ill. Postponed to next week, I guess.
Get well soon, RG! :D
OK, BMW article on GrandPrix.com , someone's vacation has been ruined :-)
Joe thinks that BMW... is STAYING!
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/07/29/the-future-of-bmw-in-f1/
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21688.html - speculating that BMW may hand the team back to Peter Sauber and continue as an engine supplier
...in F1, anyway. But they're leaving somewhere else...
OK, let me be specific - he thinks it's possible they'll leave, but unlikely. They'll probably stay in some guise.
change from BMW Sauber to Sauber-BMW ...
OK, lunch time ...
:D
But the thing is, BMW have complained that with the engine freeze, there's nothing for them to innovate on. Would they stay on as an engine supplier in that case?
Later, Wolf.
i am bored at work watching the 08 australian grand prix. Grooved tyres! Heikkis first outing for mclaren! An interview with anthony hamilton! (very itv) whoever would have watched this and thought massa would make something of his year. Ahhh, the past.
Interesting tweet from the PR of Kia Motors UK:
Hmmm... Read into that what you will. :D
:D
Korean Grand Prix is coming in a few years. That wouldn't surprise me.
Few years? How about next year? :D
But yeah, certainly within the realm of possibility. They wouldn't want to buy Hinwil, though, would they?
They would have to base it in Europe or possibly Japan or America. Korea just doesn't have the aerospace or motorsports industry infrastructure. However knowing how aggressive that country and that company is, nothing is out realm of possibility.
The guy who was talking was from Kia UK - I'm pretty sure they'd want a UK base. :D
Would the buy out Toyota's f1 team?
Howdy all, just sticking my head in to say hi. How are y'all?
I'm off to York for the day, 4 hour journey here i come!
Toyota is in Cologne, so I doubt it. They could've bought Enstone, but someone's taking over there already.
Leafield is still free, though.
Hey Jon. Enjoy your trip. ;)
It would be really funny if BMW said that they will hold a press conference, everyone was like "Zomg! BMW are leaving! Oh noes!" Then BMW say something like - "We have committed our future to F1" or something like that.
"It nice to see the entire F1 community come out today, however all we are announcing today is that we've hired a new janitor."
:D
Eurgh why am I awake again?
back from lunch, located the KIA tweet ... interesting ... but what is he saying ? that they plan to enter, or that they had a talk about that over a beer at New Year KIA party, or that they have enough money to burn ...
that's the question, isn't it? why would he reveal that to us publicly? free publicity, or dropping hints?
My thought was it was much more likely to be a typo and he meant "can't".
his previous sentence would contradict it if he meant can't. :D
twitter.com/Jon_Walsh - that is the KIA guy
Can anyone confirm this tweet?
duly followed by
To a revived Sauber name, I guess?
Watching it now it's geo locked i'll let you know what they say.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8173865.stm
But Dr. Mario set year-on-year goals. They met their goals in 2006 (be decent), 2007 (podium), and 2008 (race win). Wasn't this the first time they missed their goals?
Don't go questioning Ecclestone logic now.....
maybe can eliminate the word logic from that sentence :-)
how long till we get news?
Press conference is at 9am Brit time I believe.
so 21 minutes. morning all. this is going to be interesting.
Morning.
can we watch or hear it live? or do we need to wait for press
I can't find any reference to when Bernie said that though? I can't really be sure it was recent.... All manner of things come out that man's mouth, he could have said it years ago and it wouldn't surprise me
David Croft's been on the BBC news but he wasn't very enlightening. Except to say that Mario, Mario's boss and his boss' boss were gonna be at the meeting
i think the only chance of a live feed will be a 24 hours news channel feed, eg CNN, BBC, sky, or perhaps MSNBC because it's a business story. I'm going to have a bit of a look for a feed. my guess is that the twitter world will inform us.
hey. if they pull out, can we get a forth new team in or is it too late?
i think we could get a new team. anyone else got thoughts on that? the only issue would be that if people see BMW leaving, they might think twice about joining up.
Sauber would still be there. Possibly all it could be is that instead of being BMW Sauber they would become Sauber-BMW.
we can, if they buy BMW's spot.
but i think Hinwil will continue as a team, possibly under Sauber.
I drop.io'ed my productivity today
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/29072009-002
:D Now I am home and in bed so even less productive :D
here comes the afternoon coffee
morning guys
Morning.
morning, janine. just in time.
morning.
I have no idea which network will carry the BMW story live but the bbc news feed (video) is available here. I've been looking around the BMW media pages but there's nothing available there. I think Journeyer and Sean are right- the team will still be there but the name/management/owners might change.
I fully expect to find out what happened on twitter :D
speak of the devil, just as I wrote that it popped up!
Looks like it's confirmed. BMW pulling out at the end of the season. As per Jonathan Noble on Twitter.
NobleF1: BMW has confirmed it is quitting F1 at the end of 2009
No surprises there. What happens to the team?
2 minutes into their press conference? Spoilsports.....

They're Germans - no running around the bush.
Munich. The BMW Group will not continue its Formula One campaign after the end of the 2009 season. Resources freed up as a result are to be dedicated to the development of new drive technologies and projects in the field of sustainability. BMW will continue to be actively involved in other motor sports series. The landmark decision to restructure BMW Motorsport’s activities was made at the Board of Management’s meeting yesterday.
“Of course, this was a difficult decision for us. But it’s a resolute step in view of our company's strategic realignment," explained Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “Premium will increasingly be defined in terms of sustainability and environmental compatibility. This is an area in which we want to remain in the lead. In line with our Strategy Number ONE, we are continually reviewing all projects and initiatives to check them for future viability and sustainability. Our Formula One campaign is thus less a key promoter for us. Mario Theissen has been in charge of our motor sports program since 1999. We have scored a large number of successes in this period, including some in Formula One racing. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mario Theissen and his team for this,” said, Reithofer.
Dr. Klaus Draeger, the member of the Board of Management responsible for development, said: “It only took us three years to establish ourselves as a top team with the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Unfortunately, we were unable to meet expectations in the current season. Nevertheless, our ten years of Formula One experience have had a major impact on our development engineers. We have racing to thank for numerous technological innovations as well as the competitive spirit that drives us to develop mass-produced cars.” Possible redundancies in Munich and Hinwil cannot be quantified at present. Says Draeger: “Since we only made this decision yesterday, we cannot provide any more precise information. We will develop and assess various scenarios and do our best to find a solution for the employees in Hinwil and the staff members involved in the Formula One project in Munich. We are aware of the responsibility we shoulder and will inform the staff as soon as we can make a clear statement."
Says BMW Motorsport director Dr. Mario Theissen: “Of course, we, the employees in Hinwil and Munich, would all have liked to continue this ambitious campaign and show that this season was just a hiccup following three successful years. But I can understand why this decision was made from a corporate perspective. We will now focus sharply on the remaining races and demonstrate our fighting spirit and put in a good result as we bid farewell to Formula One racing.”
BMW will continue its programs in a number of motor sports series: BMW will appear on the starting grid in the touring car series and young driver promotion program in Formula BMW. This will be supplemented by BMW’s participation in ALMS, the American Le Mans Series, endurance races and close-to-production customer sports. Furthermore, BMW Motorrad Motorsport will continue its campaigns, with the super bike world championship leading the way.
BMW looks back on a long track record of success in the field of motor sports:
BMW achieved eight Formula One victories from 1982 to 1985 with Brabham. In 1983, BMW won the driver’s championship with Nelson Piquet (Brabham BMW). The last win with the legendary turbo engine followed with Benetton in 1986. Ten victories were scored during the partnership with Williams (2000-2005). BMW had a total of 19 grand prix wins and 33 pole positions before the BMW Sauber F1 Team era.
In its debut season in 2006, the newly established BMW Sauber F1 Team wound up fifth in the constructor’s championship. In 2007, the German-Swiss team came in second after McLaren-Mercedes’ exclusion from the points standings. The 2008 season saw the team in the hunt for the world championship until the end of the season, winding up third. Polish-born Robert Kubica achieved the first and hitherto only GP victory in Canada on June 8, 2008. So far, the BMW Sauber F1 Team has taken one pole position (Kubica in Bahrain in 2008) and 16 podium finishes. The BMW Sauber F1 Team occupies the eighth spot in the manufacturer’s standings in the season presently underway.
that's the offical press release from the bmw media people.
nothing about the team's future. that's worrying.
It was taken out of our hands by the board, is what that means.
Will Dr. Mario decide to leave BMW and buy out the team for himself? He can certainly run it.
Peter Sauber is an option as well.
It's not up to them. It's up to Sauber.
But I was hoping there'd be some good news with this presscon.
And if the decision to leave was only made yesterday as they say, they wouldn't know. That will be sorted out later.
You'd think they'd try and sort something out first before announcing it, stop it all looking like a mad panic?
There is a lot of talk about finding "a solution for the employees in Hinwil and the staff members involved in the Formula One project in Munich."
which could easily mean "sell it to someone so they keep their jobs"
oh well
I know. I guess they wanted to make their point right away and avoid speculation.
Top nominees (in order of likelihood) are Sauber, Theissen, and Wurz/Superfund.
Barring those 3, their spot will be given/sold to someone else.
right news read, now off to bed night all
In that scenario would their resources just be sold off piecemeal with staff left to find jobs at other teams?
yup.
maybe there's another press conference lined up for later today that isn't public knowledge yet. MAYBE :)
i'm confused! :P you make it sound like you know something we don't. :D
Surprisingly, this feels less of a 'shock' than when Honda announced they were pulling the plug on F1 last year?
not with F1 but i've seen things like that before. one thing has to be clearly dealt with before another one can occur. this morning was BMW's press event i think, not the f1 team. what happens next is anyones guess. i don't know anything else, but I've now signed into the BMW press system (free, just give them an email address). there's no exclusive here ;)
perhaps because they weren't the first. and they gave us a day to prepare.
What happened to straight talking Germans? :P
does this link work? another statement from bmw - the full speech by Norbert. i can cut and paste but it's the same length to the other one and i'm not a fan of people cut and pasting when links are possible.
also this link for Draeber
I would like to know what Theissen thinks about all this ...
Yeah both your links are good
I imagine he's sat, stroking his moustache lovingly, planning on world domination.
Or just thinking that they should have pushed with their development last year and at least made an attempt to clinch both titles when they had the perfect opportunity. Maybe.
sweet. might drop.io them as well but thanks for the confirmation
How about that Russian billionaire that's sniffing around?
Hi all.
I've drop.io'ed the statements and speeches
nice timing ;)
ahh, if there was such a thing as a bad week, then im going through it right now.
i am feeling better at least
it could be worse. at least timo still has a drive.
I think he has been involved with Arsenal for quite a while (I think it is the same guy). He was sniffing around Renault ...
Amazing how for the second time in a year a team that gave almost zero exit hints drops out ...
good
bad. we'll see what happens throughout the day - i would not be surprised to see a second statement throughout the day about the team's future. don't get too worried yet. if there's not a statement within 12 hours then yeah, get worried :(
@j - suppose. still days left in the week though
Morning!
This one's pathetic though. It's one bad season.... If that's all it takes to get shot of them then good riddance
suppose it does explain why we focused on this years car instead of 010.
with that, i leave again, bye
Don't blame Mario - blame the board.
rest up mate :)
From Mr. Noble
Yesterday, then.
or #blamesteven
Oh, I found Bernie whining on this morning http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8173916.stm
So the curse of Nick Heidfeld continues.
Sauber, Jordan, BMW...
Williams are still around. :D
He cursed Hinwil twice! :O
Williams's previous engine suppliers have been Honda and BMW.
(clutching at straws, can you tell?) :-D
:D
Someone on Twitter brought this up:
ouch. but he's right.
Blasphemy!
it hurts to admit it, but costs in F1 are high. why would a new team come in if the big teams can't even sustain their campaigns and make shock withdrawls (Honda, BMW). i think Mosley would do well to shut up for a few days and let people make his points for him.
There is a reason that Bernie was out ahead of this one saying, "performance targets" etc. Not "too expensive".
timing - just occurred to me that while BMW might have made their decision to leave yesterday, and announced today, it's good timing in a way - one month before the next race means hopefully things will get sorted out without a disruption to racing.
True, true. But if it were cheaper, they'd be more likely to get ignored by the beancounters even after 1 bad season.
Yeah, but he needs to support the rest of FOTA right now not Max
yep. nice spin...
He being Bernie? Yup.
Also if they were cheaper we'd have a raft of nothing teams coming in and dragging down the prestige of the sport. They are too expensive as is, but they have to remain fairly high. There is a balance to how much they should cost.
so Theissen does all the work with FOTA, get the Concorde ready to sign, then tells the board they need to sign it, and they tell him "no way"
Guess this means Rosberg won't be off to BMW next season then? :-)
Could still go to Sauber. You can't stop the rumours! ;)
unless KUB or HEI do the unthinkable and win a race this year, at least I will be able to say that I was there when BMW won the F1 race
Rumours already circulating that Kubica might be racing at the European GP for Ferrari. Source?
The blimmin' awful Daily Mail!
Thanks for putting a link to the card for Felipe! It's lovely to see the word getting out there.
I've no idea quite what people will send yet, but it's going to be unique, I can guarantee that much!
Well yes indeed.
Much of what Max has been saying this year about the need for the reduced costs have now been proved.
BMW is a premium brand – and their loss will effect the other teams.
For example, Toyota paid their huge budget because they wanted to be seen beating Honda, Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW and Renault (probably in that order). Now cross off Honda and BMW from the list, and it is harder to justify the costs.
Does this quote
However, our planned cost reduction will cause component standardization and homologation to increase, and thus will set certain limits on our engineers’ creativity. This doesn’t necessary correspond to our belief of what’s ideal.
mean our as in BMW's or our as in F1's? To me it reads like the second but I always misinterpret these things.
I am not here
Manufacturers have always pulled out when the economy dips. They don't do it because the costs are too much for them they do it because they feel they can't be seen to be spending money on something perceived to be as frivolous as F1 while business is bad and they may have to cut jobs.
It means BMW
makes sense, Mr not here :D
Are you sure? How do you get component standardisation with intra-team cost cutting?
Goodmorning!
Another slow f1 news day i see...
Morning.
Bernie says the Concorde is signed?
I don't believe him!
Either way, it didn't stop BMW.
sidepodcast? we started that one at 11pm. keep up daily mail.
This four week break is going to be very full of F1 speculation isn't it!
should we announce our intention to quit f1 if the refueling ban is here to stay?
Fixed ;)
:)
mr me, what was that absurd request you mentioned in your tweet ? :-)
ah yes. would you mind answering some short questions about blogging from steven, via either voicemail, mp3 or skype?
I actually said it on Monday morning here on Sidepodcast. Before I even knew BMW were leaving. Even then BMW hadn't met their performance contracts for Kubica. He was a free agent anyway.
Total speculation mode what if Kubica has left to go to Ferrari and BMW were going to have to announce that they had lost their star driver for not being good enough. And Mario went for money o hire somebody else good and theysaid that was enough.
interesting. i like that approach.
why not, but better send them to me first. my last live talk on radio was not that good :-)
nice one. incoming email.
Signed by who? BMW have gone and Toyota are threatening to go.
This is typical Bernie. Put out a good news story n top of bad news. When he CVC had a go at him about his Hitler's comments he put out the nonsense that he was going to sort F1 in 48 hours
just bouncing this comment, as it ended up in spam:
It would appear also that the last people to sign up to the concord agreement were Williams and Force India. And there were rumours were that the stumbling block was BMW.
I wonder if this was about customer engines. BMW are the only team that has refused to sell on their engines. I wonder if Williams and Force India want a viable alternative to the current system where you either chose cosworth or you have to kowtow to your engine supplier.
If every engine manufacturer was forced to supply at least two teams then it would drive the cost of being a small team down because it would put the power in the small teams hands. "don't put yor prices up, cos i'm the only team mad enough to use your rubbish engines and you don't want to be left with no customers."
Maybe BMW didn't want a part of that.
Or maybe all of that is plane wrong ;)
got it, would weekend be enough ?
the shows are going out sunday, during the 12hr broadcast. if you can record them and email them, saturday is the cut-off.
OK, our Saturday starts 7 hours before yours, that gives me enough time :-)
hehe. perfect, thank you.
I think somone said they tried to sell their engines but nobody wanted them?
I have always found it strange that they didnt sell them on though, especially this year with such cut backs in that department... They werent even proposed as an option for brawn...
Morning all,
still trying to digest the sheer amount of news there has bee this morning, so sorry if I'm saying something that's already been said but;
1. I really, really hate the FIA today. their first instinct upon a team quitting the sport - an action which could loose 100s of people their jobs and livelihoods - is to make a political point. To me, it read as a very cold, calculated attack at FOTA. That might just be me, but I don't think that is the appropriate reaction from any governing body. (link)
2. On the better news front, there are already parties interested in buying the team, I'm not sure Epsilon Euskardi are the most realistic prospect, but if it sees the team carry on in F1, that has to be a good thing, and if there's already one prospective buyer, there could be more, both a good thing for the team, and possibly for the sport as well if other manufacturers (i.e. Renault and Toyota) were to sell their works teams.
3. Amongst all the BMW news this morning, I missed Ferrari's daily update on Massa - he can walk, is doing 'extremely well' and will be moved out of intensive care today. That really is good news. (link)
Sorry for the long comment!
Nothing wrong with long comments.
The Epsilon Euskadi link doesn't work for me.
The Massa news is fabulous though.
This is very good news...
try this: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77404
Very helpful thanks :)
I think the FIA is missing something - if they pushed through with their proposals, BMW would've left anyway - out of anger with the FIA.
But, well, what can you expect from Max, no?
True, but we should be able to expect more.
To be fair it is a good point badly made...
A lot of the manufacturers just want to spend big , win a championship and move on. Problem is F1 doesnt work like that, especialy if there are 3 or 4 other people trying to do the same thing
That works. It looks like they want the entry but not buying the team. I wonder if the BMW statement is accompanied by an offiial pull out. I would think that Peter Sauber would consider taking the team back if he could keep the entry
The fia doing it badly... Not Rachel!!!
ooh. I might go to the Ferrari themed restaurant for dinner tomorrow in honour of his progress (any excuse for Italian, right?)
If they think they can just get the entry, they're certainly going to face competition. Speculation only, but I can see the now available slot being used to persuade N.Tech to drop their legal action.
So many questions!
Is the food oily?
Do they try to cheat?
Are the staff arrogant?
Do they punch walls when things dont go their way?
Have they recently tried to rebrand themselves?
Manufacturers have always done this. The problem is Bernie and Max decided it was a good strategy to aggressively recruit manufacturers as team owners and push out the serious racers. The whole franchise system was designed to keep the manufacturers in F1. As expected of a Bernie and Max strategy it failed miserably.
You have an Italian restaraunt that does KFC?
:D
I wish! Just pizza, pasta, the usual. I got pizza last time, might have to go for pasta this time...
Theres a car on the ceiling though. Very Science Museum.
It did raise the profile of the sport though... to an extent that BMW pulling out is major news on all the networks. Short term-success, long term= FAIL
It will be interesting to see how many teams go after that slot. I hadn't thought of the N Tech situation but that is a good point. I wonder if the Prodrive / Ari Vatanen situation will affect the decision
I'm off for lunch - think I might have italian ;)
But Max knew it was going to fail, which is why he turned on them before they could turn on him.
In Italy, don't they just call it "food" ? ;)
Are there many Italian restaraunts in your area?
In the midst of all this i had an epiphany last night...
Its very convenient for Bernie that brawn have suddenly fallen off the pace so dramatically.
It turns out, it isn't a slot, but a team. At least according to FOTA - http://www.teamsassociation.org/press-release/2009-07-29/statement-fota-secretary-general
yep. "pranzo" is lunch by the way.
about half. the rest are german. i live in the very north of italy, close to austria - hence the 50/50 situation, so eating italian is not as obvious as you might expect.
What's the connection between Prodrive and Ari?
dave was co-driver, wasn't he?
David Richards used to be Ari's co-driver
German food?
Das ist gut, nein?
Of course it is. Why do you think Webber didn't get penalised for the unsafe release from the pits?
Ohhh. Well, so long as Ari isn't president yet, it doesn't do anything to improve Prodrive's chances. Sauber, N.Tech, or Epsilon Euskadi are still more likely.
Re: F1 Big Picture.
I am terribly amused by the word 'pressekonferenz'
I have no idea, I just don't think of 'German' as a cuisine (not to insult any Germans, I also don't think of 'British' as a cuisine either - French or Italian or Spanish yes)
I would not be so sure of that. If BMW have lodged the official paperwork to pull out of F1 the slot should be up for grabs.
My thinking is a bit more dramatic than this. How often do teams make changes to cars which make them worse?
:D
i live that mario is leaning so far away from the others, he's almost in the next room.
Ari was David Richards co-driver. In those days Richards was just the lucky sod with the beard that got to sit beside Ari. Most people had no idea what his name was.
They will probably try to sell the team first before they do that.
I was wondering if Max would decide not to give Prodrive the slot because of Ari
They do have some stuff.. when i was there i had have Bratwurst, Currywurst, Kartoffelnoddlen. Chicken Schnitzell, Pig on a stick
And about 20 other wursts which i cant remember!
Theissen's body language is quite incredible in that pic.
British must be a cuisine. No one else would consider eating mushy peas.
All the time
If they treat them like they treated brawn/honda then i expect this would logicaly be the case.
3 races in a row? Very convenient...
They are a-mazing... i need some!
Hmmm. I dunno. Possible, I guess. But I think he'd be looking for reasons to give certain teams the spot rather than looking for reasons not to give Prodrive the spot.
At that time though there was not a queue of teams who had tried to get an entry.
Joe musing on why they left
true but they cant say brawn were a new entry and that whoever takes over Sauber is an existing entry. If it is a new entry they will probably need an entry procedure like they did this summer?
Can't say I've ever tried them but they don't exactly look appetizing.
Today I learned that New Zealanders eat 3 times as many pies as Australians per person per year. Probably because NZ pies are awesome and Australian pies are gross.
Dr. Mario looks like a man ready to quit BMW and takeover the team himself. An MBO, in other words.
What do you think?
It is heavenly... just make sure you eat it hot with salt and pepper...
the FIA contradicting themselves never happens, does it? ;)
I do not get that FOTA talk about third car. do they know something we don't ? do they expect more teams to go before 2010 ? even if no one picks up what will be left behind by BMW there will still be 12 teams on for next year. 12 x 3 cars is 36 cars, 13 x 3 cars is 39 cars ... a bit too many I think ...
Management by objectives? :P
That depends whether or not BMW has officially pulled out or not. If they have not followed whatever the correct procedures are then they can sell the team and th new owners have the grid slot. If however they have officially pulled out then the slot is up for grabs.
I am sure when Alianora gets here she will know all the procedures.
He is a life long BMW man. It's always difficult reading these things from one still photo but it looks like he doesn't want to be associated with the rest of them
I like the way they went to all the effort of making the worlds biggest banner.
Bernie said before 2009 season that if the team formerly known as Honda entered 2009 as Honda it would be considered as same team. But they entered as Brawn and that made them new entry.
So if BMW disappears from the BMW Sauber but Sauber remains, what will that mean ? :-)
39 cars is ridiculous, running a 3rd car in Friday Practice so the reserve/test drivers can get practice before someone puts them in a car they've never gone around a track before in a la Not Seb would be a more sensible suggestion (not sure how that works with cost cutting, though)
I would love to see the whole thing opened up and have that number of cars trying to get into a race. Let's make team earn their place every year.
a legal dispute?
This has NOTHING to do with costs. It's just an excuse!
they are talking about increasing number of cars on the grid, not about makinmg Friday more busy ...
In the meantime Toyota says they are staying put
The lack of a replacement concorde agreement has made it all too easy for some of these teams to pull out.
Max didnt want it so he could control everything, if he is not careful he will have nothing left to control
And here's us thinking it will be a quiet one!
I think so too. But what will win over, his loyalty to the company, or his dislike of the people he works with?
Given how active he was in his decade in F1, I think he just might make the jump and do an MBO.
There is a man called peter standing in the middle of a room?
I think the Brawn issue was that Honda withdrew their entry before the Brawn sale was complete so they had to apply for a new slot.
Teams have changed names many times over the years and not lost their slot. Jordan is now on its 4th re-branding, RBR started as Stewart and then became Jaguar and both still have the original slots.
Interesting. So that means it is not a FOTA strategy it is a genuine BMW pull out
Max doesn't understand strategic thinking. He likes knee jerk reactions.
Management Buyout?
Id so i personaly hope he follows Aguri Suzuki's example and calles it: Super Mario Racing
You can include Minardi becoming STR, Benetton becoming Renault, and even Sauber becoming BMW.
That is why Alison and I decided we were going to do an F1 phone in show on sidepodradio because there is going to be so much to discuss
Currywurst mit pommes fur das gewinnen!
I think he dislikes the decision rather than the people. I guess he has to decide whether he wants to be on the BMW board and maybe one day run the company or to be an F1 team owner
That wasnt done at a time when there was an EU court case hanging over the FIA's procedures. If they flip flop this time it could have reprocussions
yes
There are loads of them. Benetton started as Toleman
pommes is French not German
Yes but that is a common dish in a German cafe - Currywurst with chips and curry sauce - with a beer of course!
Bit behind but from memory doesn't Peter Sauber still own the entry?
Sorry to be nerdy but in my textbooks this is annotated MB :P
Would mario have the funds... Ross was able to do it because of all those years of being at the pinnacle of F1 on a fat salary... I cant see the Doc having the same resources?
yes please. A million times yes.
As I understand it the team owns the entry.
The Brawn issue was a stitch up by Bernie to extract more money from Honda
:)
It is universally known as an MBO. I have never seen it called MB. The only thing I have ever seen called MB is Mercedes-Benz and I am sure BMW is not going to announce that.
I have only ever seen MBO too.
It would be interesting if there was an MBO and they stuck a Merc engine in the car and it was competitive
There is a reason, and I can't quite remember what it is but it is a legal one, why the Sauber name is still on the team. I thought it was to do with the entry. It's not just heritage or "being nice". It's something legal.
Perhaps he has first refusal?
hehe, that would be funny.
When I say legal I mean contractual.
MB, MBI MBIB were what i had...?
I should also say i didnt realy pay any attention in business lectures because they appeared to be aimed at 7 year olds. So these may have been aimed at somone else..
I think he owns a percentage
FOTA Response
“With regard to the announcement made today by BMW, FOTA Teams have immediately consulted each other and are ready to assure all the necessary support to the Swiss-based team, whose membership in the association is confirmed, to continue its involvement in the F1 Sport.
It is worth to mention that a professional work has already begun within FOTA, aimed at increasing the involvement of the fans and at improving the F1 show. Among those initiatives, one that could be interesting is the introduction of a third car on the grid. FOTA will seek the opinions of all the most relevant stakeholders in order to exchange ideas and define proposals for the future of Formula One.
FOTA Teams now wish to have the necessary certainty and stability within Formula One in order to focus on those fundamental priorities for the future.”
I wonder if the drivers will put out statements?
nick already has:
"I'm not going to lose sight of my ambition to reach the top in Formula One. I'll be doing my best to support the team and ensure that we get the best possible finish to the season. As far as my personal future is concerned, we'll now be continuing discussions under these changed circumstances."
This is really going to shake up the drivers market...
I think the sticking point to the BMW board was Nick's beard, TBH :D
Did David Cameron just make a booboo on national radio?
Seeing this thing about calling Tweeters a certain similar-sounding word...
(*brings out the #sidepodfacts*) - BMW own ~63% and Peter Sauber owns ~37%. (based on this old gp.com article)
I saw that this morning. He used two words that are not acceptable on morning radio. It seems an odd thing for him to do
Apparently that isnt technically a swear word. The second thing he said was!
What did he say?
I didn't think that he had that much
When the country doesnt have a functioning government he could probably suggest scraping the NHS, Pensions and tripping the size of the armed forces and the other lot would still lose the election
good call. so much for a slow 4 weeks.
It rhymes with a thing you put on your head
He was cruising towards a certain election victory.
Now, I'm not so sure.
He is expanding his appeal. So far the reaction has been very positive.
Good politics. The people who will complain will be camped so far on the left they wouldn't have realised he is going to win anyway
I watched the video, it wasn't that bad. I find the differences in what is acceptable and what is not between here in Australia and other places quite funny.
Hmmm - but aren't Conservatives more particular on these things than Labour folks are?
The people who are are hard core conservative supporters wont be disuaded from voting by something like this.
He has a bit of a stuck up image so this is a pitch to try and make him seem more banterous and normal. It wont do anything specificly now, but its a ploy to make him harder to paint in the future.
Good point. But how about folks in the middle?
This is aimed at them. Labour will go out to paint him as a toff at the next election so expect more stuff like this to run interference against them.
The fact he feels that he is able to do this though is a big two fingers up at the governemrnt. It is a bit of a gamble, and not something you can afford to do if you are in a tight battle
But now they'd paint him as a guy who doesn't know common decencies instead.
I think this will do Cameron more harm than good.
I dont think that would stick... in fact it would look ridiculous.
This was on commercial music station with a young audience, The daily mail might make a fuss but their readers will be voting conservative anyway.
But isn't most of that young audience using Twitter?
Most of them are on facebook. I am the only one of my friends to be on twitter
Really? How odd. Over here, it's the older folks who are on FB, while the younger ones are on Twitter.
Apparently, the majority of Twitter users are in their 20s and 30s.
Ted is coming up with the goods again. I didn't know McLaren had a new traffic light system for pit traffic! It's so McLaren, making a machine for something that everyone else does with a person ;)
Yes.. seems like Ted is now a fixture! Great stuff! :D
Actualy i have 1 friend on twitter, but he uses it like a news feed, which i suppose is what i do.
Borris is on twitter though.. i wonder what he will have to say! :P
Heart Ted :)
GOOD NEWS: Massa's doctor has said that he will race again...http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77411
Regular post-race Ted Blog ftw. Well considered take on old news, and some insight on things we don't usually know about (like the Brawn moment). love it!
Ted's posts are way more moleish than the mole actually is.
Ted needs his own tv show...
Or maybe a podcast! ;)
He'll be physically capable of driving again perhaps, but he may not want to. He'll have a child by then, and after going through this may not want to risk it again.
Nick's right on this. He may well have even have done it on purpose to make him seem more normal.
I find it funny mainly that it was in a comment about how politicians have to be very careful about what they say :)
That is true, although the actual 'mole' posts seem to have stalled of late
I didn't spot it either
PitSide with Ted?
Anyone heard of the Microsoft-Yahoo search partnership?
This all sounds incredibly positive
Sidepodradio show
He's a racer. They race
When I read the quote this morning that was my first thought but then I tend to be a bit cynical
I didn’t know McLaren had a new traffic light system for pit traffic! It’s so McLaren, making a machine for something that everyone else does with a person {Comment #639}
As long as it works better than the Ferrari version...
microsoft's bing will power yahoo, who will concentrate on advertising.
am struggling to find anyone who cares though.
Anyone heard of the Microsoft-Yahoo search partnership? {Comment #653}
Yes. I'm not looking forward to Yahoo! getting diluted by Microsoft's clunkiness. Still, it'll probably work better as a search solution than Google...
Hehehe. True, true. No one cares - not right now, anyway.
Question is - will this work?
bing is a pretty decent search engine. i don't have much faith in yahoo anymore. consider it a long-term takeover strategy from microsoft.
do you think MS will buy Yahoo in the end?
they tried before didn't they? but yeah, that must be the end goal.
yup - but jerry yang stopped them last time. he's not around to stop them if they tried again, though.
Why is it that fora pick the worst possible time to deny absolutely everyone (including the admin) any form of access?
I'll look out for it when I watch the replay...
Interesting potential bug with the iPhone:
http://mashable.com/2009/07/29/iphone-sms/
fora= fota?
You are an admin? !
Taking over the microphone and camera.. is well: Terrifying!
As in plural of forums, I'd imagine.
I have no doubt it was deliberate. Politicans dont do stuff like that accidently. Unless they are Boris or Silvio
ahhhhhhh Doh! *fool here, dont mind me*
Speaking from personal experience, the physical tests after a suspected issue with the brain are quite thorough and difficult, so if he responded well it's great news!
I read a tweet that said he asked his wife where he was on the timing screens before the accident, but there is no source for it so it may have never happened.
Is it me or has google chrome been a bit slow the last couple of days?
fora= fota? {Comment #669}
No. Fora is the plural for forum.
You are an admin? ! {Comment #669}
Yes - I'm co-admin at Formula 1 Home and sole admin at Force Fans Online (the latter is the one that's suddenly decided to deny everyone, including me, access to the site and to the parent network's login facilities. I might as well add that they appear to have deactivated the parent company's e-mail technical support facility simultaneously...)
It has been ok for me generally, some sites occasionally a little slow... but i blame them!
MacBreak Weekly broke the story a few days ago
Interesting...
As in plural of forums, I’d imagine.
ahhhhhhh Doh! *fool here, dont mind me* {Comment #673}
Not to worry. Blame the confusing, non-uniform way English treats plurals...
Massa will probably not have to go through as many tests as you have. Have they decided you are healthy yet?
maybe i'm reposting again (i don't live in the f1 world all the time) but have you seen the quote from Piquet about Flavio knowing s*** about F1.
I have seen a few people complaining about it recently
yup, we have. interesting discussion we had about that too.
Wow, and you comment here as well... Thats impressive!
How do you do that funky quoting you do, is that on LCLT?
Can't think even he'd be that stupid to say that would he?
Oh yeah, I'm fine - thanks for asking!
oops. i did a find on the post page for Flavio and Piquet but didn't find anything. I guess abbrevs were used.
There were a few quotes like that circulating yesterday. To be fair he is right.
well, if he's about to lose his seat, i guess he has nothing to lose?
If i was a renault boss i would be pretty annoyed that Flav left before the end of the race...
I wonder if there is a sack flying in his direction as quickly as he is throwing them at PK?
Other than to hammer the final nail in his own coffin?
didn't you see the rumour about flav finding renault a potential buyer so they can leave f1?
unless it was already hammered?
in that case you’ll be interested in others responses too.
which is why you must do this, as must everyone else. {Comment #162}
"me", please could you tell me where this quiz is? I keep seeing references to the questions without having the foggiest idea what the questions are...
I just wonder if the team would be worth more without him...
I would love to know what he does during the race. He is well known to be clueless technically and he doesn't do race strategies so apart from being on TV what does he actually do?
That was on the Debrief
somehow, i think he does give the team value, just not in a typical engineering sense.
I pointed it out too. Hehe. :D
if any group is managed well, when things like this are going on, the boss should have very little to do.
I can send the questions to you. What is the easiest method for you?
It has to be said...
Comedy Value? :D
have you seen the quote from Piquet about Flavio knowing s*** about F1. {Comment #683}
I'd hate to know how much Piquet Jr. thinks Max knows about F1, given Mario Theissen's classic quote on the relative technical knowledge of Flavio and Max earlier this year!
The deal is that you arrange to call sidepodcast on skype who give you a list of questions and you listen to a recording of Steven Roy asking them.
The questions are great and I really enjoyed it!
:D I was thinking marketing value... ;)
Count me in too! :D
...You know the questions? I thought we were gonna be asked the q's?
You can also leave a voicemail with your answers and they can edit it together so long as you identify the questions and leave a couple of seconds gap at the end of each answer. If you are not happy with youranswer you can just start again. The voicemail times out at around 10 minutes but that should be enough time to answer the questions.
Ohhh. Okay. So what do you and I do then?
journeyer, you don't have a blog?
there appears to be some confusion. the questions are related to blogger questions, it's not a quiz.
Oh golly. Got 2 shows mixed up! :D Sorry.
I wrote the questions and recorded them. You have the choice of arranging a time with SPC and they can play the questions and you can answer or you can just read the questions and leave a voicemail. When we used Gavin as the guinea pig we found that we had to give out written questions first to prevent someone answering a future question.
yup. confusion indeed. got it now. ;)
I thought you had a blog I didn't know about. I thought I was missing out
alia, you've confused everyone :)
you've already agreed to answer the questions, we're calling you tonight:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Interviews+with+Bloggers
Ahhh... Now I know where I got confused...
:D
we're calling journeyer and steven live sunday afternoon for the quiz. jackie is asking questions.
Mr C, You are organised? How did that happen?
But yeah, I'm good to join the PF Quiz Show - and beat Steven, hopefully. ;)
:D
It's all Jackie's fault
the wiki!
i'm having a minor breakdown over this. am worse at organizing than i am at bloggin'.
At least it's not your fault that we are doing this on the first of three free weekends. Well actually ........
:D
ahh. to be honest, we need some time off too, so it was either the beginning or the end.
Wow, and you comment here as well… Thats impressive! {Comment #686}
I did a blog entry about my routine when logging on to the internet for F1 news. I try to be efficient with my use of time on the internet...
How do you do that funky quoting you do, is that on LCLT? {Comment #686}
It's not on LCLT, I type it in myself:
1) I highlight, copy and paste the quote I want (unless there's live commenting or similar going on, I use ye olde commenting).
2) The quote is pasted.
3) I put in curly brackets (the { and } keys, which on my keyboard are above the square brackets), put in the standard part of the link code and the comment number between them for easy later reference.
4) After typing in my response to the comment, I use the Find function to reach the comment from whence the quote came, copy the link location for the comment and paste it in the right place within the curly brackets.
I do sometimes make errors with this procedure, as anyone who has clicked a comment number link on my comments and stayed put, or who has been met with brackets with nothing between them, can confirm.
J could talk about his guest blogs on F1fanatic?
i'm leaving.
I could, actually. Up to you guys. ;)
right - not that, then.
ooops! ;)
Listening to Internet Radio right now - when your favorite artists are Huey Lewis, Duran Duran, Phil Collins, and Peter Cetera, does that make you old? :-/
And if it was the end you would not have had any break
Whoah!
This is an operation and a half!
indeed - with everything going on.
Darren Heath's Hungaroring Photos
no, that makes you awesome
I just remembered i have completely forgotten about GP+ which is a nice surprise!
Yay! I'm not alone!
You like em too? :D
Thanks, Gavin. Martin Whitmarsh has quite the portrait there. Nice shot.
Lewis and Ari, too, actually.
The one of the brawn at dawn is amazing... I love that photo
Just a quick reminder, this page: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/The+Unmentionables is not a joke.
F1 photographers are quite amazing people.
Sorry, i had no idea that was on it :(
Love em!
It's worth keeping an eye on.
Can we add "bad jokes about Felipe Massa's accident"?
Yup.
But aren't we the same age? :D
How'd you get to love 'em?
how about being mean to Heikki? No? OK then ;)
unless it was already hammered? {Comment #695}
In Nelson's case, I think he hammered the final nail in on Saturday. Everything after that was simply extra justification on Renault's part. I think we've seen the last of him in F1, unless he ends up commentating for Brazillian TV or something.
:D
I thought it was because I grew up with them but my parents pointed out this isn't true because everything they listened to was from the 60s, but my brother has the same taste in music I do so it must be genetic somewhere.
:) Sorry Amy.
Interesting, that... :D
Don't forget I like the Backstreet Boys though... ;)
I just wonder if the team would be worth more without him… {Comment #697}
Possibly not. Flavio would be invaluable to any buyer as a point of marketing focus. He might not know huge amounts about F1 but he knows much more about business than many in the paddock...
Hahaha! Worry not - that's kinda hard to forget. ;)
F1 as mii's
Can you guess them all?
Indeed. It's very hard to do what he did - come where he came from and be this successful.
I don't think your parents listen to them?
Aaaahaha, Heidfeld is awesome.
I once bought a BSB DVD off my friend who worked in the music shop under the pretence it was a gift for my mother. Muhaha.
Is 1 Alonso? If so thats briliant!
Who is the guy with the tiny face?
C'mon, that's easy! :D
Kubica
I would love to know what he does during the race. {Comment #698}
He makes cameras look at him, thus increasing his team's TV "screen share" and uprating the amount the sponsors can be charged.
His presence also indicates to his subordinates that he a) cares, b) notices when good/bad stuff happens and c) is available to discuss important matters with those senior members of the team who do know how F1 works. In a team whose centre is so powerfully embodied in one man, that's important.
Occasionally he has been known to yell at drivers through the radio. I am yet to read of any occasion where this has helped matters.
haha... i see it now!
it's always funny when you check back on SPC for what F1 topics are being discussed ;)
Number 16 is really familiar... can't quite put my finger on it though ;)
15 and 17 are both Peter Mandleson
I like the detail on Mark "I can see your skull through your skin" Webber.
I thought that was DC!
I can send the questions to you. What is the easiest method for you? {Comment #703}
E-mail, please.
Is felipe 3 or 20?
3
heheh to be honest there is a whole bunch of them I have no idea who on earth they are.
I think 20 is Jarno?
can you at least find heikki?
I'd say I'm certain on 12...and Kovalainen is in there...
The deal is that you arrange to call sidepodcast on skype who give you a list of questions and you listen to a recording of Steven Roy asking them. {Comment #706}
No wonder I haven't received them - Skype doesn't work on my computer.
Should I record me answering the questions and send the pre-recording to sidepodcast instead?
but of course! How could I miss that giant forehead?
I didnt realise that McLaren change the back lighting on their sign after they win... I kinda want to head down and take a photo...
alia, you’ve confused everyone {Comment #716}
Sorry!
they do??
I believe that was mooted as an option too...
first I learned of that sign even existing was when it was red after Brazil last year! I've actually never seen it when its white :)
you’ve already agreed to answer the questions, we’re calling you tonight: {Comment #716}
Point taken. I'll make sure my phone is charged!
Will do, i have just found out why
I will go and take photo for you once they stop winning!
SPC folk: is there anything they can't source?
I cant get inside, but i have a friend of a friend who can... ;)
I can get inside as a Team McLaren member, but they only give you like a weeks notice of the tours which isn't really enough time for me, on the other side of the world :D
Apparently the team tours are done on the weekend though, when lots of staff aren't there. The other folks I met up with at the Aus GP were telling me about the tour they went on that was organised by Jan, during the week when the place was operating. It sounded fantastic!
Wow.. i was thinking about joining that just so i could do the tour. It seemed a bit pricey though, so i might wait for season or 2.
Just break in, they're only an F1 team, I'm sure security won't be that great ;) ;)
You can walk though the grounds... there is a public footpath going right along the edge of the woods!
Break in with a Ferrari Notebook and tell them you have some diagrams they ought to see ;)
I have the MTC book, it's quite interesting to read about how they came up with the design and stuff. Plus lots of pretty pictures. Possibly one of the most overpriced books I own though :D
You... You are defiantly a fan! :D
That's my favourite :)
Oh the things I have bought from that eStore....
This is my favourite. I'm a sucker for anything "limited to x number of copies"
Although the price of getting it framed almost killed me!
Do you think it might be the largest forehead in the galaxy?
That is a stunning picture!
Although i can see the real reason you like it ;)
I think Tyra Banks has him beat, but he'd be a close second.
I see 2 McLarens... and... Armco - lots of it.
They could've picked a better pic to paint, I think...
It's better than their Silverstone one. Who wants a picture of Lewis? ;)
I often forget that the silver helmeted one in my print is Alonso. Needs more Heikki.
I've just noticed Mario's body language in today's F1 Big Picture. Look at the way he is sitting - to me that's "him against them" and maybe he is against their decision?
oh i asumed it was...
Evil Pic :P
That would seem pretty obvious to me. Question is - is he willing to prove them wrong and do things his way - by MBO?
Because it looks good on my wall? ;)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc06922-jpg
I dont think he has the cash... He will need an investor.
He does have the advantage over Brawn by having established sponsors though.... But it might be hard to get a loan with so much uncertinty in F1
It does look good... but i assumed it was heikki!
It does too!
I wish Heikki could lead a McLaren one-two!
Well, Ross isn't exactly flush with cash either, is he?
But I think his best shot at getting funds lies in Kuala Lumpur - at the Petronas Towers.
ignore the fact it's horribly off centre, there is only one stud in the wall and that picture is HEAVY.
Hehe, don't you have to (Sorry Amy) your own posts?
But Brawn was effectively funded by Honda money?
I sorry Amy by crying myself to sleep at night (I don't actually)
I think he will be relatively well off.
A decade at the top of his game at Ferrari... all those championship winning bonus's!
True. Perhaps this team might be funded by BMW money, too? The Concorde money (once they sign) won't do them any harm, either.
With a number 1 on the car?
awww... we know you dont sleep!
Heikki's always number one to our Amy!
:)
Artistic licence? :)
Clearly selling 500 takes a long time, it's about the only reference to Alonso left on their entire site.
I am comforted by knowing this is not true because you don't sleep. I don't lik the idea of you crying :(
I have only cried at F1 once! Twice if you count the fact I cried the second time I watched it.
But this was happy tears for Heikki last year, right?
No, that day I jumped up and high-fived everyone in the pub.
I cried at Brazil because for a minute there I thought we had lost two years in a row and when Lewis passed Glock it was like being trapped in a glass cage of emotion ;). And then I saw wee Massa crying and that made me cry too because I always cry when others are haha.
I have no memory of how I reacted - just that I was a bit happy ;)
It was also like, 5 in the morning and I may have been crying at the thought of going to work in 2 hours :D
That was a heartbreaker for me... ;)
That day was crazy.. I didnt know whether to laugh, cry, smile, be angry.
I think in the end I settled for collapsing on the sofa in a world of my own...
The end of last season was, for me a rollercoaster.
I don't want to say that it didn't matter who won because that's not right.
For me though F1 won, because it was such an amazing moment!
I always view last year as having two champions, one was a drivers champion and the other was a people's champion.
The right guy won the championship. The other guy was only there because of Ferrari International Assistance.
Verry true
Agreed. But the way he reacted etc...
I cried at Brazil because for a minute there I thought we had lost two years in a row and when Lewis passed Glock it was like being trapped in a glass cage of emotion ;) . And then I saw wee Massa crying and that made me cry too because I always cry when others are haha. {Comment #834}
I think my jaw dropped open when Lewis passed Timo. It was so improbable that a 18-round championship would come down to the last 400 metres. Then I started grinning. Even seeing Felipe didn't turn the smile off; I thought the way he reacted to the whole thing was so dignified under the circumstances that it enhanced his credibility, which reflected on Lewis' championship (the better your opponents, the more significant a victory over those opponents is)...
That's very very true
Massa handled it really well. The guy behaved impeccably but there is no way he should have been in a position to challenge for the championship at that race
I have realy bad paranoia..
I get a sore throat and half of me goes "swineflu...omg! get medicines, baricade the doors"
The other half of me goes... "dont be such a fool, fool"
OMG Chrome you are so slow!
Had enough, gone back to FF3.5 for a while :(
Good Morning Everyone.
,,, and we thought that it would be a nice quiet three week break...
Evening all!
If I'm honest I expected something to happen, just not this...
Nelso just tweeted some odd stuff:
Guys, I'm gone from here, I know. I apologize. But the days have been crazy. Much happening and so you can comment.
Stay connected on the news about F1. A lot will happen. Much rather ... New
It has been translated from Portuguese so who knows what it means...
I hope he gets the Ferrari stand in job...
Here's a post from my blog analysing the performance of the drivers by the consistency of their laptimes. Hope you like it!
Great stuff... have commented ;)
As most of you will know by now Alison and I are doing a phone in show for sidepodradio. The show now has its own wiki page where you can let us know if you want to be called. We will take calls on the say from people in the comments but it is helpful for us to know how much interest there is. If there is no interest in calling I guess you are going to have to listen to us and whatever podsafe music we can dredge up after a 10 second search. It is in your own interest to call. Besides when was anyone on this site stuck for an opinion on F1 or anything else.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/F1+phone+in+show
Since you are on your way to the wiki anyway have a look at my sidepodspace show page and leave questions, comments etc
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/sidepodspace
It sounds like he is apologising for having been away from twitter for a while
Yeah the first bit sounds lke that, but...
This bit though... A lot will happen. Much rather ... New
Sounds interesting...
Good evening people of the Sidepodworld, hope yours has been a lot drier than mine. Which can only be described as 'catastrophically apaoclypotic' :)
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!
Did the internet go slow, or are you worried about Sauber?
#sorrymrc
@noblef1: Michael Schumacher is to replace Felipe Massa from the Valencia GP. Story coming soon
Ferrari says Schumacher is 'ready' and will stay in the car until Massa is fit again
Oh jeez.
points to Rachel's comment
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!
WOW
i can't do it. i can't watch him. i won't.
I think
Fits quite nicely. Thanks Kathi!
Have really enjoyed Sidepodcast. Tis a shame.
I'd never make you.
hehe
Wassup?
2 things:
1) It's only temporary
2) He's rusty, meaning (for once) he'll have to be the number 2 driver to Kimi!
It might be fun to see him struggle?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even if it's only one race, it's one race too many.
ah! i guess that is the natural reaction!
He is not going to win and he is not going to like that car
We've seen that? It still wasn't fun.
there is still sidepodradio. nothing can take that away from you
Its even on Sky Sports News
this sunday may be goodbye from me.
sorry.
Our big finale, it seems.
I hate the fact he is back but the cheat didn't manage to push me away from F1 before and he won't now.
I see you've found it out yourself
yeah. but rob wasn't his engineer back then.
oh poor, poor rob.
It's like the Emperor and Darth Vader returning to kill off Luke Skywalker!
oh god... maybe they will give him compassionate leave whilst filepe retires?
It could have the side effect of making Rob a better engineer?
Even more reason not to watch the GP
Sidepodmarch on Valencia?
In protest I mean
Oh come on, seriously?
For one race?
You know who did this don't you?
Someone made a phone call and said you owe me. Get yourself in that car.
agree...
I dont want to see him back... but i think F1 has moved on and it will be interesting to see what happens...
you think felipe will be back in spa?
GOD NO!!!
I understand it totally. The guy defamed the sport for years.
No, I think he's finished in F1 for good, full recovery or not.
With two skull fractures?? Not a chance
so why one race then? who do you think will be driving in spa??
Schumi will race in both Valencia and Spa
This is Bernie's doing. He lost Alonso for Valencia and now he has his crowd puller.
flibster watch your ****** LANGUAGE
But he will suck in that car ... which is why I can't see it happening. Is it official?
yes it is.
If it were Bernie's doing Alonso would be in that car because the Spanish only care about F1 when Alonso is winning...
Hamilton said he regretted never getting to race schumi...
I concur, he must have had a hand in it.
I expect Ferrari arent to disappointed about the publicity either...
maybe Chris Dyer will be his engineer again.
Thanks a lot voldemort.
This for Bernie is the next best thing. There was no way ever that Alonso was going to be in the Ferrari. That is impossible for s many reasons.
nelson piquet told us there would be news. here it is.
Good call Kathi. Maybe Rob will be given a holiday.
ah yes!
When the Gods want to spite us they make our dreams come true (to complete wreck a badly remembered TWW quote)
am going to have to shelve tonight's planned calls, sorry.
i need to go for a walk.
Are you kidding? I've just organised my whole eveing around it :(
Is Journeyer missing out on the fun?
Maybe he is too busy dancing?
Bernie has also found a way to relegate BMW's departure in the headlines... very clever!
:(
i feel bad for sidepodcast...
sorry.
Sorry Gavin, this is really, really bad news for Sidepodcast.
If Journeyer says anything smug, I fear he might get a little 'scorched' by some here!
Me too...
I am annoyed but quietly confident he wont be good enough to win
That's fine, but now I have to go and tell my wife that the reason we rushed getting home and cooking dinner quickly (with me missing half of it) was for nothing. I'll be sleeping on the Sidepodcouch tonight! :(
I believe he will be embarrassed.
I hear you. It is only 10:00 AM here and I've dipped into my file drawer where I have a 12 year Balivine and some glasses. I'm glad my boss isn't here.
I hope so...
If Jimmy Superaguri beats him the world will be back in balance...
Again, apologies.
Are we going over the top with the fake names?
I cant spell his real one!
My facebook status:
BMW leaves F1, Michael Schumacher comes back to F1... there is no god.
There is a God, but he clearly despises F1!
Autosport story
It seems worse reading it long form :(
i wish i could go for a walk. i mourn my team and that evil, evil man has made it worse
colons on my psp would make it easier to do unsmileys
You know what, I can't bring myself to read it!
There isn't really an unsmiley that is unsmiley enough.
Could we make an #F1Happy place where nobody ever mentions him and Ferrari only enter 1 car for the foreseeable future?
This is all Lou's fault for going to London. I told her bad things happen if you go there and she wouldn't believe me
Sorry dude, I can only imagine how much of a double blow this is... :(
But, on the sidepodscience trip, the diffusers were ruled to be legal, and Lou was at that, so that's not the answer...
Which meant it was harder for cars to overtake ... ergo bad!
I read it. Nothing new.
The really annoying thing is he is going to be just as fast as he was before. All we can hope for is that his neck isn't up to it or he gets lost in allthe concrete at Valencia
I told her last night that she was dabbling with forces she didn't understand. I didn't think it was going to be this bad though. I thought that only BMW and Toyota were going to quit.
It will be interesting to see if Schumacher is as keen on F1 when his team don't have a massive unfair advantage.
Well all the Italians on Facebook are happy. But then again, for them it's Ferrari first and F1 second.
Just heard the news - Incredible!
Or that he doesn't have Jean Todt to fix the races (at least not yet) and Ross Brawn to do the rest.
I've seen the MS news.
Do you think there is a chance i am dreaming all this and i will wake up and the only F1 announcement today was that BMW have decided to repaint their cars bright orange...
WahWahWeeWah.
Didn't see that one coming.
The worst part of this other than HIM being back in the car is going to be all the Ferrari fans. it never seems to ocur to them that Bernie and Max have admitted to letting Ferrari choose the rules therefore the results they achieved were worthless.
That's almost as bad as them leaving!
This is 100 times worse than BMW leaving. It is an absolute no contest. BMW are a complete irrelevance. A footnote in F1 history.
Just got home, loaded up Tweet Deck then headed straight over here. Not had a chance to read everything yet. Schumacher back? Really?
I'm on about the orange cars. I'm aware that HIM coming back is worse!
Yep
The whole BMW 'thing' has been a bit silly really. Leaving now is taking their ball and going home. The facilities the team has are staggering - and major selling point for the team.
Any noise on what / who'll be replacing them? Still holding out for Gulf-Prodrive-Astons on the grid next year.
is mr c ok...
i feel very sick right now.
Should I admit that I posted a comment in the last couple of days saying if I was running Ferrari I would put him in the car. Maybe best keep my head down then
So outside we have apocalyptic weather banging down and going completely mental.
Now I know why
I don't want to make things worse but I really hope this is not the start of a serious comeback.
Thats natural.
I am annoyed, its such a cheap thing to do. F1 was supposed to move on from HIM and everything HE brought
Evening all
@Mr & Mrs C/ Gavin: We're still on the way home because of traffic restraints. Also will need a small bit of time to quickly write up some show notes. So I hate to be a real pain here but can we push the recording back an hour and do it at 8? Sorry for any inconvenience.
You might wanna read back on comments...
ah yes. Just spotted mr c's comment. That's rather unfortunate.
however if you mean the schumacher story, I've already seen it!
You just did.
It's outside's fault... I worry about Mr C going for a walk!
So Schumacher vs. Hamilton vs. Vettel vs. Webber vs. Kimi vs. Button vs. Alonso (eventually)
At least this is going to be interesting.. to the extent of how we will see the FIA hand him his eight world title.
There is no limit to money I would give to see them all at the start gang up on him and put him into the wall. Then for Jacque and Damon Hill to come over the wall tackle him, repeatedly body slam him, and hit him in the back with a steel chair would be a bonus.
I am going outside for a while now too. How can it make things any worse?
I am ashamed to wear my Ferrari stuff. I have a Ferrari calendar but it's mostly old road cars. I'm sorry Ferrari fans, if you start crowing here I will not be responsible for my replies!
I hate the things he did in a car regardless who does them but if Hamilton stuck him in a wall I would laugh so hard.
Jean Todt could be announced FIA president before you return!
Sorry dude. If it doesn't happen tomorrow night, then I am afraid it won't happen :(
Don't hold back, Dan, tell us what you really mean. :D
I'm wondering what the reaction would be if it was Lewis doing the ramming....
In my worse Pacino impression:
"Ooohhhoooo.... I am just getting warmmed up!"
about fantasy racers: Last time Bourdais' value dropped to 4.5 after Danny put in his replacement. So anyone who still has Massa in his team make sure to sell him soon.
The MET office have decided August won't be warm/sunny at all, it will be unsettled.
think i need to unleash my anger out on f106 by crashing into him time after time after time. rghappyplace i believe
Great, now I have to do startup repair on my laptop. Why us everything starting to go wrong now? :(
#f1happyplace = Silverstone 1999
#blameschumacher
Best idea I've heard in a long time.
:)
Oh - and it won't just be in M&S, but also internationally....
Is there an M&S reseller out in Aus?
:-)
Where are my missing socks?
#blameschumacher
What a black day! First my team BMW pull the plug on F1 and now Michael Schumacher is to return to F1 at the European GP - nooooooooooooo - it is so unfair, how can so much horrible news occur on one day!!! To think that I was convinced Ferrari were going to offer Bourdais a seat for the races Felipe will miss.
Why did it rain so much in the UK today?
Thanks..
why am i still in bed? #blamehim
Australia 2007 - Germany 2009
#blameschumacher
Let's make this a Twitter trending topic!
I suppose I have something quite light-hearted to tell. At work, I've tested phones belonging to customers under the names of Mr Mansell and Mr D Hill. I mentioned the latter one, which I got today, to my mate at work and on hearing F1 talk, my supervisor Emma, bless her, said to me in her slightly high toned but concerned voice "Is Massa gonna die?!?" I reassured her he's fine but it made me giggle afterwards :D
You should be put on the naughty step for ever!!!! Ferrari saw your comment on Sidepodcast and then said ah Steven thinks we should bring Schumacher back! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!
@gavin - he doesn't deserve to be named
HE is already trending. #blamehim
No I meant, let's make some #blameschumacher stuff on twitter!
Coincidence?
#BlameSchumacher
5 of the 10 trending topics on twitter are f1 related...
I havent seen that before... #blameschumacher
I refuse to blame Steven - Ferrari have a marker and have merely called it in...
(although I'll join the 'I wonder what the others will endeavour to do to him?' camp too ;-)
Oh. Yes. Lets.
Unless we decide to do it live if it comes to that... *gulp*
Not possible. I leave for Mallorca on Friday morning!
Oh dear, this is getting all the Schumacher haters a bit annoyed isn't it? I hope Schuy gets poll, fastest lap and wins the race ha ha! :)
Schumacher is one of the greatest drivers that has ever driven in F1 - he has done a few outrageously bad things in his time, get over it...
That statement is so false it's not even wrong!
Darn. Hmm...
So, Lukeh...
Oh thanks! Very nice of you Scott!
I'm already doing 2 or 3 shows matey. I think anymore would be a bit too much for me as much as I'm looking forward to your sim racers show
Don't mean to seem rude by saying that :(
I have left a comment on joes blog. I suspect it wont be published as they have just given him a very nice car to drive...
Unless we decide to do it late Thursday night, which will be tight seeing as I have to be up early for work Friday morning, I can't see how else you'd be able to do it.
Unless we pull that off, it looks like it'll be me waffling for a hour. Didn't mean to be rude in any way, I'm just trying to think logically. You know I'd still have you on the show were it still possible. Which techincally it stll is but as I said, it's gonna be tight if it's tomorrow night.
The House of the Rising Son just came on my iTunes shuffle...
how appropriate.
I mean concerning your offer of course, just reread that and i worded myself terribly.
my englishes is goings awfulling lately. ;)
:)
Don't worry yourself mate, I'll find a way. :)
you can't do 7pm Thursday? Perhaps ... is there any way to record a skype conversation?
I finish work at 7 tomorrow...
Get Goldwave/Audacity and record the stereo mix? Always works for me recording online things like on youtube.
Won't happen there is a god,I know there is a god and that god will have the power of mind over matter and the KERS will blow up and Schumacher will retire in a cloud of evil smelling smoke.
Surely of all people you can be forgiven, bach?
Well I'm on holiday so lateness is not an issue.
Traffic providing I could be home in time for 8.
I should start typing in Welsh just to confuse everyone, and myself due to be sheer lack of Welsh linguisticness. :(
Joe hates Schuy...
He was pretty average and made to look bette through cheating.
I am begining to wonder if any of his victories were won fairly
This is good.
I heart Joe
Thinking about it further, I have come to the following conclusion.
I really no longer care about F1 in any way, shape or form.
So, the solution is simple...
Babelfish is your friend...
LPG who resorts to such when another place she posts resorts to Welsh to discuss 'interesting' things or mither about the english
I think you are gonna cry if he wins :)
forget it guys, we're going to have to postpone the radio show.
sorry, but we need time to have a think. we're rather miserable right now. it's not the time to be thinking about discussing f1 for 12 hours.
go on holiday, enjoy yourselves and we'll think about the next move.
than you to everybody who's contributed already. if cancel rather than postpone, we will of course refund all donations.
?!!!
nooooooooooo....
:(:(:(:(:(
:-( :-( :-(
I open doohickey and this is first thing I sees. :-(
Any way we can change your mind?
sorry lukeh. as christine said earlier, this is important. apologies for messing everyone around.
Watch the race at Joe's house - he can hold your hand :)
no.
*sends virtual sidepodhugs*
I think its fair enough.... I wouldnt want to listen to so much f1 when i know the news is about him.
It realy has me relived that there is such a big gap between races. All the longer before we see his....
Oh noes :(
I wouldn't try it Pat if I were you.
I think he will be at the race?
Or are you thinking about a different Joe?
#
just.... gutted.
:(
i feel really, really bad for mr c and christine and everything but it's just makes me sad it came to this :( :(
You know what, The missus wasn't that bothered so it's all good by me - she gets to watch her corpse programs anyway! ;)
Please keep my 10 pounds donation as a contribution to sidepodcast if the radio show does not happen...
ahhhh noooo !( (improvising) thats terrible news. hope it gets all sorted soon guys.
thank you but we won't do that.
Okies, will take your word for it. I've not caught up on comments properly for days, just dipped in and out 'cos I've been fairly down myself over last week's... thing. (sorry)
Maybe I'll shut up again.
Was meant to plug my other blog post about that here: http://rubbergoat.wordpress.com/2009/06/07/what-are-you-watching/
Sorry to sound like a nonce here but has something happened apart from BMW and Schumacher that I've not read yet. Sorry, I've not gone back through the comments yet.
Again, i wasn't being rude, sorry it if came across that way, just trying to save your behind in case you get a non-too-pleasant reaction. :)
No it didn't come across that way at all, I'm just a bit careful at the mo.
Oh yes, of course he is going to at the race...interviewing Schumacher, ha ha :)
He could ask him how he cheated in all 91 of his GP victories :)
Yeah sorry Kathi - that is in no way directed at the fine nation of upstanding citizens over the border to the south :(
This could end up being the single worst decision Ferrari has made in years.
I now support alonso... This is how bad it has got for me...
#GoAlonso
Just had Barber's Adagio for Strings come on Spotif. To me, it repsresents the mood here in the comments :(
I think we all need to stand back, take 5 minutes and chill. Clearl we're all felling a bit worse for wear right now.
Loving the sleeping panda, by the way. So sweet.
Indeed - and very cultured of you, Mr. Woodwiss!
I like this advice.
I'm going to get some food and catch up with tweets and things.
What a choon!
My fave classical piece I think
Actually mine is Ride of The Valkyries ... maybe it's Bernie and Max's too though :(
The individual involved in the f1 news tonight has commented on his website apparently.
I have no interest but i thought i would mention it
Felipe is now out of intensive are and in a personal room. Off the critical list.
I dont want him to come back before he is 100% ready, but i hope it is soon.
Afternoon all, back from a lovely day in York, i love it. Tis amazing.
how are we all?
From BBC News
Bad to worse
Gutted for many reasons :(
I don't get why so many people hate this idea? I know he had some real jerk moments, but i doubt he'd come back and do that (to the same extent atleast) again.
At least that's something we can feel happy about :)
Not necessarily at Schumacher...
It's the idea of what happens once he gets his foot in the door again...
If Mr.C sees this, please could you answer this. Why are you allowing a dislike/hatred of one driver potentially ruin something many others enjoy?
Oh right, fair enough. I was meaning about him, i knew they'd be a big reaction here
He was, whether you forget the bad stuff or not, one of the best drivers in a very very long time. Are you not as interested to find out how good he's going to be compared to the other drivers?
Would you want to talk/work on something for 12 hours that you didnt enjoy and was constantly making you angry?
No, not at all actually. We know he can drive, but he can also cheat and ruin the fun for everybody too. F1 is fine without him!
It depends how you define "best driver", i think you are thinking best sportsman, which of course...he had some "moments" that were far from it
From what we now know about ferraris dealings with the FIA, did he ever win a race fairly?
I realy dont want to talk about it, i am going to buy an ice cream and pretend it isnt happening.
A magnum per-chance? ;)
He wasn't the best driver by a longshot. He was good and consistent - but he had three geniuses make a wicked car for him, a team boss who was devious and cunningly manipulative, a governing body keen to see him win for Ferrari to line his pockets and team mates who were there to serve him.
I DO NOT want to return to this. It's not a sport if this happens!
exactly that. i've spend the best part of two weeks trying to convince christine that f1 doesn't suck.
but she's right, it does.
schumi is just the icing on a foul cake.
I'm going to get stinking rotten drunk.
You've done well to put a brave face on things, I'll give you that.
I am hoping and praying it improves,
I am a bit annoyed it has taken me so long to find such a wondefull place.
2 of those genius's have left, and i dunno whats happened with the last one.
I get you're all angry, and i'd say partially for good reason, however there is absolutely nothing any of us can do about it, so why don't we wait and see, rather than jumping to conclusions that a) dont help any of our moods or b) that may be wrong.
exactly that. i've spend the best part of two weeks trying to convince christine that f1 doesn't suck.
but she's right, it does.
schumi is just the icing on a foul cake.
I don't agree....yet.
If Todt wins the election though....
sorry, quote fail on my part
makes no odds. refueling is banned. the cars are fugly, there's no overtakening.
the list is literally endless.
*Le Mans frantically waving* Hey everybody! Over here! We got loads of racing and we like innovation!
When MS announced his retirement at Monza it was the highlight of F1 for the last decade. I cannot believe Ferrari could consider bringing him back.
There are two consolations, a) Felipe's has made good progress, b) when MS fails to deliver we can all jeered at him.
My favourite two drivers are Timo and Nick, my favourite two teams are BMW Sauber and Toyota, the other three German drivers are in my list of 10 best F1 drivers, my grandparents were German-speaking, I mix mostly with German-speaking and German friends, I work mostly with colleagues from Germany, I listen and watch to German programmes. My dislike of MS has nothing to do with him being German.
I wish I could recommend another form of motorsport to get interested in but they are all going the same way.
darts it is then.
*asks nervously* So, what of Sidepodcast now?
It is going to be interesting. Ferrari isn't the same team it was. Ross is gone. Todt is gone. Bryne is gone to an extent. Also Ferrari doesn't have the same influence it once had with the FIA due to the FOTA split.
There car is pretty much a midfield car at the moment. This is the first time I can think of where the guy is going to be on something resembling an equal plane. Not only that, I think there are more talent in the sport now with Lewis, Kimi, Alonso, and Vettel.
The sunshine at the end of the tunnel is that his career might end like Mansell where he took a lot of luster off his career by coming back to McLaren in 1995 and stinking up the joint.
a holiday.
Yes mate i'm with you...he's gonna take these youngsters like Hamilton and Vettel back to school :)
They should bring back Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve as well. After the race - they could all shake hands and make friends over a few beers :)
@shuc...
LPG ducks...
Buy a ticket to Mallorca and join me and Mrs. Goat this weekend ;)
And that, is why i'm (aparently in a minority..but...) a bit excited, the schumacher-alonso battles of 2005/6 was what got me into F1.
There is no lustre left. Monaco 2006 put paid to all that!
Sounds like a good idea. Get away, forget F1 for 4 weeks or so and come back hopefully feeling better.
He retired on a sour note, beaten twice by a youngster in a less competitive car.
Good point, but... (searching for a comeback)
We'll after all the effort you guys have put in the last two years, I think an extended holiday from F1 might do you guys good. We will be here when you get back.
I tell you the main reason this news made me smile....
The first thing i did, was to imagine Willi Webbers face when he was told "i am going to race, you were wrong"
The monster was slayed. F1 carried on in a better state because somebody beat him.
And that is why I still like Alonso, even if he pooed on Hamilton's head I still would!
I'm thinking this is like his early days with Ferrari, when the 'dream team' were still at Benetton, or had moved over but hadn't had time to build their own car yet.
And he's going to have to drive a car under completely different regs, on a track he's never driven, with no testing whatsoever.
Agreed. You NEED a break and now seems to be the perfect time.
Let's all look on the bright side, at least MSC can only become World champion by winning every single remaining race with Button not scoring a point.
I wouldn't put that passed the FIA.
Stranger things have happened :(
To Christine & Mr, C; I haven't posted before but I have been listening to the podcasts on and off for a couple of years and recently (last couple of months) been looking in more often on the site. It's even encouraging me to do a bit of F1 related writing myself.
Whatever you decide congratulations on everything you've achieved, I'm sure you'll turn it to good use whatever subject you tackle, but hopefully it won't come to that and you'll be back in the saddle.
Here's an interesting site if you want a template for how to turn all angry on a former passion! - it's the champ car fan forum at www.crapwagon.com. Priceless!
It was all Weber's idea.
max will make it so.
Is that still going?
Nah, it's Worf who makes it so. Or Data.
C'mon guys, twitter some #blameschumacher !
1000% agree :)
Thank you
OK WHO IS THE T... THAT UPLOADED THREE IDENTICAL PICTURES OF THE SCUM???
gavin... you need a holiday too.
You're bloody right I do :(
Thanks, I am just so miserable no BMW Sauber and then the other news. I hope Nick gets a drive, but I am not too positive he will. Suspect Macca might try and get Kubes though.
Call him a bad driver, a bad sportsman, call him whatever you want to do with F1, but you have no right to call him scum, he is a person just like me and you, and you have no right to say anything of that kind
I'm just miserable in general with F1 right now.
Oh yes, the Benneton in 94 and 95 was way better than the Williams of the same era...and! of course! the 97, 98, 99, and 2000 Ferrari was far more superior than the Newey designed McLaren. Have you forgotten these years?...in fact as far as i'm concerned the only time Schey's Ferrari was the best car was in 2002 and 2004...
Well that's how I feel about him. Sorry if you don't like that.
*sigh* Tonight's not a good evening at all, is it? :(
I don't care if thats how you feel about him, if you called any of us that then you'd get a fiece talking to from Mr C, it dosent matter who it is, no-one human deserves to be called scum
Now THAT might be interesting
Can we please just all calm down? This isn't helping at all.
i'm perfectly calm, i just dont like derogatory talk about anyone, dosent matter who they are
Yeah alright. Sorry for calling names. I just .. well you know me, I really can't stand the bloke and it just makes me angry just thinking about all the devious and dishonest things he did.
he still will.
am now considering what we do about comments while we holiday?
I agree. Let's just agree that most of us don't like him. I think that's a fair summary of the situation.
i really did schedule my hols at the wrong time !(
still, spc guys and gals are awesome, for one hopes the hols allow you to remain awesome
I was thinking a temporary forum since live comments and daily posts will be impossible to monitor if left to their own devices.
Yeah just open 1 thread per day then lock it when the next one opens?
Sounds sensible to me.
i think Mr C was looking for a no maintance solution?
Like I said, apologies.
Well I'm out of ideas. :P
Same, conversations are good, i think we're all just a bit heated up, everyone'll have cooled down tomorrow, and then we'll just ignore it hehe
Agreed, we should not say things that we come to regret. I dislike the guy and am disappointed that Ferrari made this decision. It just not easy knowing how to express the rest of my feeling though, but we should not get abusive or hateful.
Could we not have someone specific designated as responsible for thread opening and locking? Maybe have 2 or 3 people in case one or the other can't do it for some reason.
I'm just throwing out a suggestion from the top of my head here.
If you leave shut the side down. No fun without you anyway
Blog?
Set up a bunch of posts in advanced for each day and have them automatically post?
I don't know why but I have this vision of us lot doing a FOTA and setting up a forum of our own while they're gone.
Don't be getting any ideas though.
heheheh
shaun i have deleted all references to that convo, and now i'm gonna have to delete another.
i appreciate the concern, please let's move on.
Oh man, the naughty step's gonna get so FULL during the hiatus
So... ahh... where is Kubica going now?
Now now, shaun, let's not start it all up again. It's just not worth it. I just want SPC to be a happy place again :(
forum wouldndt feel right with how convos can go on here , ie, f1 to space to cheese to hashtags etc.
Earlier I said Macca - perfect timing!
Heikki's chair
[sorry Amy]
Shaun,
In my defence, I didn't mean it like that and it's sadly a name we referred to him at some other place. I shouldn't have used it and I'm sorry for any offence caused.
Please can we move on and agree to disagree sir?
i dunno, i was thinking earlier, i'd love to see BMW drivers go to Force India, i know it wont happen, but i'd love ot see some really good drivers to see the difference, to see if Sutil is as good as i think he is, and FIF1 is as bad as i think it is
Thats what we need!
Happy thread!
Or happy place, even :P
I am sure Heikki's place is threatened - that fact that Nico mention Macc were interested in him is the clue.
but where is Nick going to go?
Now that would be interesting. I do think he just needs a good car under him.
totally agree
I personally think Quick Nick is a perfect fit for Williams
Fast enough, but more importantly, consistant. For a team that lives and dies by how many points they get in the constructors championship (thus the payout from FOM) I can see the appeal for him.
Now I feel ill because of what has been said here. Look at how angry he makes us all :(
Get out the house, got for a walk or something, clear your head a bit?
I am sort of hoping that Nico stays with Williams, Rubens decide to retire (I think he might) and Nick joins Jenson at Brawn. Have similar driving but Nick is better at set-up.
And bin that plan to get drunk.
agreed
nick at williams? how was relations when they left in 05?
Not sure if he left well did he?
I want everyone who is about to write something about him, to sing this song to themselves and take a deep breath.
Sorry Mr C, thanks for that. And just for the record : Gavin, you are not a racist. I get a bit wound up when people diss the Schu...
Good idea to move on and all be one big happy Sidepodcast community...until next time (joking) :)
He could also be good for Brawn - he gets the car home and if it has the potential to score points he will get those as well so a private team can earn a good payout.
"I'll be back one day and when I do, I'll have more hair than that Rosberg boy of yours, Frank..."
I don't think he did... but I believe SFW has since stated he wished he'd never let him go.
Do we have to wear a jumper like that too?
I don't think he had any beef with Frank, did he? I thought he just left for BMW.
It's optional but encouraged.
Nico Rosberg = Love Child of Frank Williams and someone with alooooooooot of hair
@gav - hmm, could mean a no for nick 2 williams
Good night everyone.
He did just leave. He missed the last three races of that year due to an injury in testing.
Night Kathi
I blatently put that in with mr c's invisible writing tag
;)
Nick was caught between the BMW and Williams fued, if Nico leaves I think Nick will return to Williams as Frank has a lot of respect for him. If Toyota pull out with no engine deal Nick could still be on their shopping list - Nick and Nico would be a good team.
See ya
Evening everyone...
Bad evening to drop out for a few hours to work on SidePodRadio stuffs.
Ah well. Totally understand deflation when it happens. Boo! Scumacher! Boo!
Night Kathi
I'm delighted
Best if you leave the Schumacher stuff at that, Alex.
Don't mention it please. We are in a happy place right now.
Actually he missed two races due to a head injury, then during recovery he had a bicycle accident. He was not that injured so I think it was part of the feud as they knew BMW were getting his services in the next year. Durinhg the season he got more podiums and even a pole against Webber.
I don't think I will be finishing my work today
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/bigbigbill-jpg
Do you work in the sentate or congress?
i.e on the hill?
Whoah! what do you have to do with it?
Read the whole thing? Hopefully not spell check it!
The senate is part of congress :P
i realised the mistake as soon as i'd said it ;)
Now that is what I call a bill. May have to phone up customer services about such an alarming bit of mail :P
You know what, I'm gonna press on with my show and try and turn it into something. I have a headset mic and can record, I have Audacity, I can probably cobble something together. If anyone wants to be on it, we'll arrane somethin, I'll try and solve my Skype issues and I'll find a way of recording.
This is something I still want to go ahead with and I'd rather try and make something of it rather than let the plans go to waste :)
I work for Washington state Chamber of Commerce. That is the US Climate Change bill that passed a few weeks ago. That is what I recieved in the mail from the National Association of Manufacturers to go through and show to people.
There has to be a certain amount of irony to cutting down so many trees to produce than in order to stop climate change ;)
That's the spirit. It still needs doing. Shame to waste it.
I've spent about 40 hours on my 2 hour show like an idiot :) No point stopping now!
so the question is.....
Republican or Democrat?
Giggles: You busy friday?
Libertarians.
Too many idiots on both sides. (sorry anyone)
Wow, thats dedication!
Oh no, not politics here
It'll be religion & Big Brother next ;)
On Holiday from Friday!
aha, i'm more democrat than republican, but have bits of both
Anyone know how I'd get audio files to play on Blogspot?
Nowhere near as much as Mr and Mrs C put into it!
Proper politics i love!
Politics in sport....not so much
After the conversations earlier, it might be a relief.
Is anyone here posting to Twitter as 'Mooki'?
'Cos I just had a tweet from Mooki saying Nelson Piquet's Twitter account has been deleted. I checked, it has.
Does Flav run Twitter as well?
Which NP, fakepiquet? or proper piquet?
Ooh, lucky you
Off anywhere nice?
I don't follow the fake nonsense
I took this quiz the other day and I was told "if I was any more liberal I'd be shaking hands with Lenin!"
and, lurking from psp aint as lazy as the comp way. i say gnite all
Um it depends on your definition of course. Somerset.
It's fun though!
I don't follow any real ones :)
its better than the real one, he dosent talk in english, i get confused :D
Weather permitting, sounds great
So am guessing you don't fancy getting horrendously drunk before then
Nelson Piquet: http://twitter.com/nelsonpiquet
:)
send it to us (same to scott), we can post them on the site. would be a shame for people not to hear them.
That doesn't work.... someone in quizland has a very funny idea of what 'liberal' means....
Their dedication will probably never be matched.
I know!
PK posted this earlier... Guys, I'm gone from here, I know. I apologize. But the days have been crazy. Much happening and so you can comment
So no then :-)
(If my family read this they'll kill me)
yeah, that makes sense, Renault get banned and the tweets to him go through the roof!!"
And Jenson ;)
Have let Lou know this evening about the events that has transpired, in case anyone was wondering.
http://twitter.com/nelsonpiquet ?
Okay... I'll try and finish before I go away :)
Teehee - both definitions possible in somerset...
Hilly or Flat, town or country?
No, his had an underscore as the last char
@Nick, got that from google translate right?
i think he meant sorry for not being on twitter for a long time
Oh that's odd. I just opened that link.
cheers, and sorry.
Is it bad to admit that I honestly don't know?
My far better organised half has been in charge of this whole endeavour!
ah maybe becuase it became a verified account he lost it?
someone has told me 'he was able to get the one without the underscore because he's already verified'
Quick question....
Clubs vote for FIA president right? So MSA would have a vote right?
So if the MSA was suddenly flooded with letters.....
;)
No need to be sorry on my account!
I loved every minute of doing it :) As I always do with Sidepodcast.
I am sure I won't be alone in saying that Sidepodcast is more important to me than Formula 1
What we need to do is take the air out of the tires of that guy who brought 41 votes for Mosley in the last vote who is now the VP of the FIA,
seems the most likely thing
Hear hear.
Rofl...
If you want to give me a clue I could possibly suggest some nice pubs (maybe even a LYS or similar) if its anywhere that I used to, um, be around...
Hear Hear!
I have come to a decision. No matter what your opinion on it is, I want you, Mr and Mrs C, to keep my £10 donation, and I'm not taking no for an answer. Use it towards your holiday, that way I know it's gone to something worthwhile. You deserve it more than I do right now. By doing so, I'll feel better knowing I've helped you guys on te road to Sidepodrecovery.
Please, I insist. :)
Same here. I should have donated months ago so just keep it will ya?
I seem to have entered a time warp. Why is a certain driver the reason to give up Sidepodcast (sorry if that sounds banal)
Straw that broke the camel's back I think.
It doesn't
Since it is National Anthem day, I figured this was apt.
Mind you it was a piece of straw made of lead.
Mrs. Goat offers her support and says if you're not having fun then it's fair enough...
I have to ask... does she know you call her Mrs Goat?
To be honest, Mr C said before that he waited until a certain person left F1 to start Sidepodcast.
Mrs C hasn't been enjoying F1 for a couple of months
Mr C was keeping her going with some positivity. Which he no longer has.
Time for a Sidepodholiday :)
Joe on his blog said of BMW's decision to withdraw from F1...
"In F1 where the thinking is always short-termist, they will think it was about the bad year that BMW is having, but that is not how a big manufacturer thinks. Thus one needs to analyse whether it was because the image of F1 is not something with which BMW wishes to be associated. One might ask whether there was any influence on the decision resulting from Max Mosley’s spanking scandal, or Bernie Ecclestone’s recent remarks about Adolf Hitler. Whatever the case, F1 needs to look long and hard at itself and ask these questions. It is easy to blame the economic climate but this may not be the whole truth."
My explanation is because they got prior notice from Ferrari that MS was to return and they then decided they did not want to be associated with the sport.
Probably not, but then she probably doesn't want her name all over the internet ;)
Am listening to the Ari interview on MWM....i'm having the same sort of feelings as when i heard Obama speak for the first time.
There is hope.
Ooh dear, then I'm sorry for my earlier comment. I was quite looking forward to it but at that time I had just dropped in and hadn't read myself in through the comments.
Let's hope that a holiday will make both Mr and Mrs C appreciate how much they mean to the F1 community and they will return again feeling more upbeat.
Indeed. In fact, one of my answers in the questions Steven had asked for SidepdRadio touched on how us bloggers tend to keep on going and not take a holiday, and then all of a sudden you burn out. I'm not saying this has happened to Mr and Mrs C, but from what has been said so far and assuming it is true, it sounds like they could do with a holiday. I know the feeling very well, as many of you out there know when all of a sudden my site goes quiet for a week or two.
Best wishes to all.
too you also
Heheh :-)
Does this mean they are also going to jump... ah, better not. ;-)
Jump?
Jump?
Awesome.
:D
DJ Dan!
Harbour? Rocks?
And it's also good to see Rosberg has found something to do during the summer break. He has quite a good voice!
Van Halen are so awesome they got me back into NASCAR a few years ago!
Well at least you can say that SPC never did this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDthMGtZKa4
PAAAANAMA!
I didn't jump. I fell because I was p***** as a f**t. :D
Heheh :-)
I believe the correct phrase is "tired and emotional"
:D
According to those I was with, I was walking along the edge, signing a Sinatra song while doing a little skipping dance. Apparently, I was quite happy at the time. Which I suppose is an emotion.
Watching that to Van Halen is... surreal!
Singing...
But signing is a good mental image!
I tripped up "my way"?
 I certainly did do it "my way". :)
Theres loads of Dr Who on the iplayer at the moment, i'm working my way through them....few words for y'all...
Are you my mummy?
:D
I love Stephen Moffat. Can;t wait to see what treats he has written up for 2010...
Did I post the Blink angel link yesterday? Here it is again in case you missed it.
http://www.thisplanetearth.co.uk/main/page51a.html
This feels kinda odd commenting here when the hosts are out .. I don't care for it
Me neither :(
Come on guys, say something?
Why would you want that, it would scare the living Jon out of me
My favourite Moffatt episode is "The Girl in the Fireplace" will be v sad to see DT go but am looking forward to Dr 11 too.
They're probably relaxing in SidepodTowers, enjoying a glass of rose and watching us mess around without their guidance. I bet it's some kind of social experiment Mr C has cooked up. Or not cooked up, because apparently he cannot cook. Even though he can make cupcakes.
You say "make" ;)
Well, yeah. It was a put-it-in-the-oven-and-ice thing, wasn't it. Still, not a bad effort.
And it got Lou and I on the panel that time. :)
there ya go ;)
hehehe
You could put it your front garden to keep unwanted visitors away.
Did you ever read Christine's blog entry on her favourite 5 episodes? Absolutely worth a read :)
Also, while I'm at it... I got in some Dr Who blogging too... apologies for blatent plug... but a nice bit of reading if youre free :)
That reminds me... Sidepodale... need to remake that batch!
Sidepodale? Ollie is interested...
I am learning things... Ant Davidson and Danica Patrick were team-mates in Formula Ford...
haha, awesome
Speaking of alcohol, has anyone tried Trulli's wine at all?
Lukeh - I keep up with Christine's blog it's great & I read yours, I think Mrs C mentioned it somewhere. Have you seen the trailer for the last two specials that was shown at San Diego Comic Con? Don't know how to post a link but it's on You Tube. Can't wait for The Waters of Mars
The red is excellent. I'm not sold on the white.
It's a social cupcake?
Yep. It's quite nice, but I'm not educated on wine and go by personal taste rather than educated taste.
I did! I saw them yesterday or the day before. I can't wait till November!
Tried to get my family to bring me back a bottle from Italy but it never happened :(
Didn't realise he made a white. My previous comment was about the red.
Ditto! I liked it, that's all that mattered to me.
You can get in supermarkets local to me.. well you could, I haven't checked for over a year.
I should check it out in BILKA next time then...
I bought an F1 logo mug the other day!
It came in a box with a deodorant and a keyring. I already had the keyring and I didn't want the deodorant after Mr&Mrs C said it was rubbish. I HAD to have that mug.
£4 in Sports World. Or whatever they are called now.
I call them Sports "70% OFF SALE ENDING LITERALLY THIS MINUTE OH NEW SALE NOW NEVERMIND" World.
Right. I need to wrap dad's present and then do some blogging.
Have decided it's time for bed. Was just searching for my ipod to sync whilst listening to some great music which I then realized was coming from my ipod speakers on the other side of the room! 'Night all
and then NEW SHOP!!!!
lol. Like most shops at the moment. NEVER-ENDING SALE NOW ON!!!!!!
Hah :-)
Its funny because its true.
(apostrophes be damned)
It's a Irish Red. I screwed it up the last time, it was way too hot outside when I cooked the wort, took too long to cool and contaminated the beer.
I am actually starting my winter beers in a few weeks. It usually takes me about 8 weeks to get the beer where I want it.
You blog late. Do you find it easier to write late in the evening or harder?
Ah - the DFS of sports shops?
Night!
My old colleague made a dark chocolate stout. It was one of the best beers I have ever tasted.
Usually takes me about 10 minutes...
I think most sports shops are the same to be honest. They seem to have closing down sales, then another sale, with nom mention of closing down, only to be following by a further sale talking of clearing stock to lead into another sale.
Night. I just realised I don't know who you are. New?
That's because football shirts are too bloody expensive!
Do let us know how they turn out. A props to you for making ale. I'm about to start my second attempt at wine. First attempt was a disaster.
Hence the old joke - "I remember the day clearly, it was the day Allied Carpets didn't have a sale on."
Late because I'm more relaxed later. Early evening I'm still too tired from work. Later on I've had a rest, some food, maybe a small beer.
Yes - Have been lurking for ages but just started commenting on Sunday.
Night!
Cool. Welcome aboard.. as long as it may last..
Welcome Janna. (Is it Yanna or literally Janna?)
:D
Welcome. You have come at a most interesting time.
It was mentioned by Mr C, I hope I get this right by saying her name is Joanna and Janna was a nickname?
I rtry and remember that at the risk that you could of course get creeped out by me remember such trivial informaton.... I hope not!
In college, I would say 30 secionds.
i'm back. I assuming nothing else catastrophic has hapened since I went out
Personally, i'd say her name isn't trivial ;)
Jon, you make a fair point. :P
Yeah, I remember that in the show, but I don't think a conclusive answer ever came. Either way though, good to new names. :)
I think you've got away with it this time
Nelson Piquet's twitter lost a symbol from it's url. Tragic times.
I can but try :D
Good to SEE new names.
I'm missing lots of words this evening. Apologies. Time for a refill, I think.
lol.
Phew
Here's something to lighten the mood further - new Los Minidrivers! :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gyw8wxDCKc
Steven,
Did you really write question 10 in the recent list that went out for Sidepodradio? If so, should I be reading anything more into this...?
Ollie.
Evening gang (from the occasional commenters corner!). Just wanted to say thanks for the laughs and all the informed opinion. I have learnt so much from you lot, and I hope it does continue.
I dont like the idea of the comeback because when I heard I dropped my beer. That's just not on!!!!!!
Hope you are all well :)
Love it when Alonso's wheel comes off :D
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!"
Bruno says it best
Loved the transmission fail segment.
I never knew Rubens wore a tshirt with Bruno's cartoon on it!!
haha thanks for giving us the link, i've never seen this account before! *bookmarks*
Ditto. And awesome.
What was that other F1 cartoon, I think it was an Italian bloke. It was done in a very similar style to Los MiniDrivers. Anyone know?
Nevermind, Mantovani. I feel daft now.
Bruno Mantovani's stuff?
Oops, spoke too soon.. :P
Off to sleepy beddie-byes. Night all.
Night Ollie
Night ollie
Night Ollie
Mantovani? wasnt that the cascading violin music man, whose LP's were purchased by everyones nan?
because you'll be first to know spc, http://twitpic.com/c25zt my new drawing for massa!
WOW, thats amazing
thank you!
W.O.W
Immense!!!
Love it, rocks!
now there's a talent :)
Nice drawing, Janine :)
thank you guys! your comments mean a lot!
That is incredible
Would you mind explaining your Twitter name to us?
it means cookie in icelandic and swedish, there's a bit of a story behind it involving ikea hehe
where are ya from?
philippines but living in uk... but i have a bit of a fascination with scandinavia if you're wondering
Thought it was something scandinavian...
Ever been to Denmark? ;)
Ah! Journeyer is from the Philippines and living there I believe.
Great picture. Love it!
unfortunately, no! although i'd like to
Oooh, really? Has he/she got twitter? And thank you very much :)
You should, it's nice here!
One day hopefully!
Well I'm off to bed guys, good night everyone!
See ya !
Night!
I miss Mr. C. already! :(
it's he. I'm not sure about Twitter. But I don't think so. He's more here in the mornings afternoon because of the tome difference.
He's based in Manila I think.
What a sensational day of news! I was thinking after BMW pulled out it's going to look bad for F1 and tomorrows headlines would be grim. Just as all looks bad Schumacher steps up to the mantle to turn an awful day into something stellar. I wonder if Bernie got on the phone to Luca and said we need some positive news can you give us some??
Good night Janine
If this is what Luca calls positive news then he must have had a really bad hangover this morning
The MSA are voting for Todt and their guy is in his cabinet just as he was always in Max's. The MSA clearly has no standards.
Does the AA or RAC vote?
Does anyone know of the music soundtrack to the game Ridge Racer Type 4? For me, it's the best game soundtrack ever :D
As far as most of us are concerned, it's still an awful day. The only way it could become better would be for Schumacher to say "April Fool" in the morning.
Hmmm
maybe its time to crawl back into waiting for appearance mode after all....
The MSA is part of the RAC but I am nit sure if there is a sparate vote or the same guy.
LPG in case you're catching up apparently we are going somewhere near minehead called watchet.
Is this code for something?
They can't really leave without a commenting solution for us lot while they're gone, can they? I'm sure they'll be around sometime tomorrow in a slightly better mood planning how to keep us lot happy in the comments while they time off to recharge their Sidepodbatteries.
It might be better for them just to leave and get away for a bit.
Might be hard on the addicts, but i dont think they should feel obliged to us!
Now you are scaring me alex!
Agreed
Ah... a bit off my beaten track somewhat there. Pretty. Pretty Hilly (in places). No LYS to speak of. Lots of smallholdings and farms...
But if you have car I can heartily recommend the beach at Kilve (especially if you have a kite :-) ) to the east a bit down the a39, and the pub on the same road at East Quantoxhead used to be very nice (but also had an elderly black lab who would sleep on your feet unless you bought it a packet of cheese and onion...)
The walking is nice. There are farmers markets within a 30ish min drive in each direction (except north, don't drive north its the sea). If you are into visiting places then Hinkley Point is very, um, close by... Eat seaweed :-)
Understandable, but they can't just leave us with one daily post to fill up. Surely that would overload the server. Maybe the plan to have pre-prepared posts which go live at the same time each night would be best. But I'm not the one running the place so I dunno!
Think of it as taking a break between the races. (I hope.....)
They can do what they want ... it's their site, after all. They don't owe us anything and it's a priviledge to be able to post here and have the opportunity to talk to all you cool people - but it's not a right!
You should be able to wave at Lukeh over the channel..
If you like steam trains there's one running from Minehead to a place just outside Taunton, it goes through Watchet.
Forgot to add - there is a farmshop near Dulverton that sometimes has whole fleece though (unwashed warning....) not got exact directions though (alex breathes easily at knowing there may not be sheep in the car!!?)
Oh - if you get the chance to go to Fyne Court, take it. It might take you a bit to get there - but its a lovely pretty place, and was the first place to try out 'the new fangled electricity' and other interesting things...
I'll wave really hard!!
Of course, I wasn't suggesting anything otherwise or of the sort at all. I've just got a feeling it's gonna get out of hand and too many comments will pile up in one thread.
Ah, forgot about that...
Must file that for the next time we visit my parents...
Oh - the Country Markets lot have a shop in Taunton. Although I wouldn't bother with Taunton, it may just disapoint....
only 'just'? :-)
I know you weren't. Well, I guess we await developments with interest...
Compared to other places in't area...
Actually Bridgwater isn't that bad anymore. It does at least have the 'independent' type shops that Taunton hasn't managed to hang on to.
I've remembered that there is also a really really nice cider place within a half hour or so as well. Looking for a link....
Sorry, what's that's supposed to mean?
..Suggesting otherwise?
http://www.watchettowncouncil.org/days_out.php has a couple of places listed - the bakelite museum is underwhelming whilst also being interesting... the cider place at the bottom is not the one I mean, but its an OK one :-)
I feel terrible.. I am staying up to see if there is a daily for tomorrow though
I'm just trying to help, man. I'm not trying to take over or some rubbish like that. I know it's their site, I respect that deeply and I'm not trying to take it away from them. But whatever. That's the truth, you choose to believe it or not. I'm not arguing because it's a waste of my effort
Giggles code message has confused me.
Apparently these are real places.
But i think he was trying to communicate something with his strange response...
but he wasn't arguing, he was agreeing with you..
I think Gavin was just saying he knew you werent trying to be demanding?
Hey, I'm agreeing with you!
Fly the Sparrow's tweet at midnight, my friend! ;)
hehehe
Didn't sound like it from what I read. But fair enough! :P
I'm so stupid. I took your original comment in a different context. :P
Scott, from my POV there was nothing by it. just:
No problems - it's been a long day and it's late! :D
Long's an understatement. Seems like it's taking forever for midnight to come around.
Awww! :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXGBjwNyOMY
That is very awesome :)
Isn't it just ;)
Isn't it, mmm? Marvelous, isn't it? Marvelous :D
Jenson is WALKING AND TALKING.
He knows Jake no doubt!
Damn...
Just broke my only pair of current prescription glasses. :(
That is fantastic!
They only did messages in English, Portuguese and Italian because they're the only languages he knows, of course :P
Do you have any contacts or sunnies... otherwise that is a big problem... unless you can engineer them or live within walking distance of an optometrist
Reading comments on sidepodcast was always fun, until today.
I get that Schumacher created many issues in the past, even I as a fan of his driving abilities had to shake my head more than once - but all the hate here, seriously? Valencia was going to be boring now I'm looking forward to it, whatever happens.
Back to lurking.
Webber's message seemed a little...odd. Like he didn't quite know what to say.
You need Hermione Granger
:D :D :D I was just thinking exactly hte same
I have sunglasses - but at night - bit of a no go.
Unable to see very well and I'm contemplating using superglue... this could be interesting.
Who?
Occulus Repairo!
Why, oh why do I know that?... *hides face in shame*
:D
Hehe. This is better than Mitch Benn admitting to having Mysterious Girl on his ipod ( he says it was for "research").
It's a Harry Potter reference. Never mind.
I guess though the eyes of a schumi fan it must all seem a bit much.
Through the eyes of a doubter.. I am amazed how restrained everyone has been.
If nothing else is said about the past today definatly shows the guy does tear f1 apart.
Don't go back to lurking. If you have opinions let us hear them.
You can't besurprised that after Bernie and Max confirmed that there was a special deal with Ferrari which many of us were convinced of that there is a negative reaction to him coming back.
This is a driver who won one championchip by ramming Damon Hill and tried to win another by ramming Jazques Villeneneuve. He regularly pushed drivers off the track or into the wall including his own brother with carte blanche from the authorities. Frankly I don't understand how anyone can be a fan of that but I would rather that you stayed and discussed it than disappeared back to lurking.
Riiiight. Superglue was a bad idea...
It goes hot and then sticks your hand together, then your hand to the glasses, then your face to your glasses to your hand right?
Not quite.
Glued the broken part of frame to the desk, leaked glue over lens...
oooh, bad move :(
If you keep live commenting this you'll find your hands stuck to the keyboard in a minute..
...and onto mouse...
hehehe
I will say one thing on the subject. I'm actually looking forward to seeing him race against the likes of Jenson, Vettel, Webber and Hamilton in their prime along with Alonso, Kimi and Rubens. That way it's answers one of those "How would one driver at his peak do against another at his peak" questions. Only drawback is Schumi's not in his prime. He's done no track time in the F60 as far as I know, so how he fairs during his time in the car we'll have to wait and see.
I will ask one thing - who here thinks he'll win a race before season end? It's an open ended question
Depends how good the ferrari gets and how many races he has. I reckon Massa will be back for the final race of the season
THERE'S NEW RACE PRO DLC AND I HAD NO IDEA ABOUT IT!!!!! OMG! :D
Wait, what?!
Hopefully Brazill too..
Watch this! :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrofzKl3hx4
He won't win a race. If he does well it will mean his fans say it proves he is great. If he doesn't do well his fans will say it is because he is too olf or not had practise etc.
I would be surprised. He has two skull fractures. I can't imagine he will race before the end of the season.
Spa!!!!!
So if there's DLC Pack 1 and DLC Pack 3, what happened to DLC Pack 2?!?
:D :D :D !!
Hands are clean of glue. :D
Unfortunately, had to chisel my mouse off the desk. Whoops.
Have dug out my old Oakley glasses - can kinda see enough to do everything.
Liking the list of added motors too.
Mid-Ohio's in there too. Nice circuit.
A fracture can come in a lot of levals of severity though.
Its definatly not good, i wonder if they will release xrays or anything when he eventually talks to the press...
He's got a ruddy good chance at somewhere like Suzuka. By then he'll be up to speed and Ferrari has been gradually improving.
What I want to know is... what is Kimi thinking?
Even so - one more accident before it's properly healed could be extremely dangerous.
Almond or origanal... I had almond the other day.... but it is very good.... but so is original....
Scott will you be tweeting the driver messages video? I'll RT it.
I think somone posted and tweeted it last night, cant remember who i am afraid
ah ok
At least this is going to be interesting.. to the extent of how we will see the FIA hand him his eight world title. {Comment #975}
Theoretically possible, but the FIA would need to find a way of either making every other car DNF or be over 10% slower than Michael's car on average for each of the next seven races.
Somehow I think if the FIA tried that, the civil courts would smell a rat and Michael would lose the trophy... ...even if he had to hand it back several months after the season ended.
But he still has his 7 other titles... nobody has taken those away (YET)
I hate the things he did in a car regardless who does them but if Hamilton stuck him in a wall I would laugh so hard. {Comment #978}
Under the circumstances I think it would be more probable that Michael would put himself in a wall than someone else do it. Which come to think about it would be more cringe-worthy to Ferrari. I still feel sorry for Badoer and Gené, who I'm sure are supposed to be the Ferrari reserve drivers.
y'know... part of me wants one of the RBR drivers to get a twisted ankle or something.. just something minor.. so that David Coulthard gets called up.
Jump over the pit wall and twist their ankle?
Yes, im looking at you mr karthikeyan!
Anything to have MS vs DC again. Like Gavin said earlier, this is like Star Wars.
If MS is the evil empire, DC is the hapless rebels. You know the odds are ridiculously against him, but you live for that one day when everything goes the way of the rebels..
i think Mr C was looking for a no maintance solution? {Comment #1144}
Does Wordpress have entry auto-locking facilities?
Tangentially, I went to the Formula 1 official site with a new toolbar I downloaded called LinkExtend. I was surprised to discover that the "Ethics" section for it was "Unknown". I'm sure there are a lot of people who could tell LinkExtend what FOM's ethics are (read: The Almighty Currency Unit).
I don’t know why but I have this vision of us lot doing a FOTA and setting up a forum of our own while they’re gone.
Don’t be getting any ideas though. {Comment #1153}
You're all welcome at Formula 1 Home if no alternative arrangements can be made here :)
Note to Portuguese F1 Twitterverse: if you are going to start wild rumours connecting Fisichella with Ferrari, could you possibly try to do it before Ferrari confirm they're using somebody else?
nick at williams? how was relations when they left in 05? {Comment #1175}
Absolutely fine; it just so happened that Nick got on even better with Mario!
‘Cos I just had a tweet from Mooki saying Nelson Piquet’s Twitter account has been deleted. I checked, it has. {Comment #1222}
OK, what did Nelson say that he shouldn't have done? Or was that a Renault-opened account (in which case this could mean he got his P45 today)?
Nelson Piquet: http://twitter.com/nelsonpiquet {Comment #1234}
Panic over - looks like it was just a username move. Post trawling has its downsides...
Occulus Repairo!
Why, oh why do I know that?… *hides face in shame* {Comment #1469}
Did you read the book to prepare for the film*?
* - Currently on page 338 of my fourth reading of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and saw the film on Tuesday night. The former is good, but the latter is better done beforehand...
I must say, I will miss sidepodcast. Despite all the crap that's going wrong with F1, I always enjoyed the podcasts and shows.
But if it's not fun for them to do right now (or anymore), then more power to them. If they put out shows again, I will definitely listen!
I am sure it will all get sorted out once they have a break. I would expect things will be back to normal in a couple of weeks.
I really, really hope you're right, Steven.
is this certain driver really that hated? maybe i miss out on something being in the states?
Hello, Ninja.
I don't hate him - am a fan, in fact. But no one polarises more than Michael Schumacher. Love him or hate him, you can't ignore him.
Yes he is hated.
Not by all. ;)
There are the members of the personality cult
I don't hate him. I support Ferrari, and therefore I hope he does well. I still hope Kimi beats him though. And Red Bull. And Nico.
Oi! :P
Kimi better beat him, or else he's in trouble.
EJ's interview - EJ, I like your optimism, but it won't be as easy for him as you make it sound.
What did EJ say?
If he doesn't do well EJ will just question his motivation.
Hear for yourself:

Not geolocked.
He'll say its Kimi's fault because in beating Schumi he made him look bad.
That means I have to listen to him though.
:D He did say that Schumi's comeback might rejuvenate Kimi. Wake him up, so to speak.
Good point. Well, it's worth a listen.
Was thinking of Singapore yesterday - how happy I was I went to the 1st one last year rather than the 2nd one this year.
Now, I'm not so sure.
EJ talking rubbish as usual
Well, what did you expect?
I am a bit worried about the Beeb's pre-race buildup, though.
Apparently he will not wat to be beaten by Schumacher according to EJ. So presumably he was quite happy being beaten by Massa.
Well, people will forget about that if he beats Schumi, right?
From Lance Armstrong:
Well, I guess they can relate to each other?
Beating Massa should be more of an achievment than beating Schumi. Schumi hasn't raced for 3 years, Massa is at the top of his game.
Speaking of Massa, from Rubens:
Good to hear. :D
The whole thing is going to be the Schumacher show and after every session it is either going to be Schumacher is slow because of his age or more likely Schumacher shows he stil has it then eventually Schumaher should come back full time followed by rumours of a move to Brawn.
Every driver who is interviewed is going to be asked how they feel about him coming back then what it was like to be on track with him etc etc.
I just hope he is so slow he embarrasses himself and disappears again.
If he beats him they will say Schuacher is old and had no testing and didn't know the circuit and Kimi couldn't have lived with him in his prime.
You know, even if he is slow, he will be there until Massa's ready. Someone did say he was the only capable driver they can get that Massa would approve of.
Poor Kimi. He's in a no-win position, then?
Come to think of it, ALL the broadcasters will be doing it.
If he does averagely then it will die down after a couple of races. If he does well, it will take longer.
Absoloutely no win. Unless he wins races so that no-ne can argue he will get no credit.
Meaning it takes a cheat to know another cheat, Journeyer?
I've just logged on and read the recent posts and I want to send Mr and Mrs C my best thoughts.
I'm a huge fan of your radio show and think that you two are great talents, both as presenters and hosts of a great web site and community. I think you both are due a good holiday, and remember that there is a life outside of F1.
