There's another launch today, as McLaren get ready to unveil their 2010 car. They're streaming at a much more reasonable hour of 11am UK time, so keep an eye for a breakout thread later in the morning. Meanwhile, in much more important news, it's Jackie's birthday today, so many happy returns for the day! Hope it's a good one. Here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Apparently, the organisers of the Singapore GP are considering making some changes to their circuit for the 2011 season, particularly the area where a certain Mr Piquet crashed a certain Renault. I don't mind if the track changes too much but I can't believe Singapore are considering it, whilst Abu Dhabi believe their circuit is just fine and dandy.
- Yesterday was Thursday, and with such a day comes some real thinking. Dylan from Triple League Racing gave us the question and it was a good one. Read all about how I would change the calendar, and yes, I know it's not a particularly popular idea. Mr C and I are weird like that.
- Some pictures of the work going on at Silverstone emerged recently, and it already looks a million times more productive than Donington ever did. It's always worrying to see a track with diggers and earth littered everywhere, but I get the feeling Silverstone will come through this one unscathed. There are some pictures to be seen over on Autosport.
That'll do it for now, I have a feeling it's going to be a busy day, but even so, let us know what you're up to and what you've got planned for the weekend. I'll see you in the comments.
Hellooooo I'm not sure where Thursday went, it appears to have passed me by! Not that I'm complaining :P
Hello!
Am jealous, my thursday was awful.
Hello, and hello Friday.
Happy birthday, Jackie
oooh! Happy Birthday to Jackie!
hi alison
Mine wasn't awesome tbh but it's all gone now! I'm shattered!
Happy Birthday Jackie! :)
Hey

Happy birthday jackie!

Blimey! That nose looks like a door wedge....
Happy Birthday Jackie
it does!
what's "door wedge" in german?
Google Translate says: Tür Keil
that's not going to top dumbo flugel :(
There's probably an actual phrase for it though rather than just translating the two words :P
Türkeil
babelfish gives it as one word
Italian?
porta a cuneo
Welsh: darn drws
:-)
:)
must sleep.
(launches ruin my late nights)
it's still late.. :P night Mr C
Night Mr C

What aerospace materials are using in Motorsport (Because of aerospace)? Carbon fibre, what else?
Good night

Night
I'm not sure if I'll be able to follow along with the McLaren launch. I have to do a stock take. I'm hoping they'll get the good details out before I have to go.
The first all carbon monocoque was made by Hercules Aerospace in the states for McLaren.
I assume they use aerospace spec cables, connectors etc. The refuelling rig was originally designed for air to air refueling of helicopters.
CFD etc could be included.
Maybe things related to the fuel system. Tanks, hoses, dry break connectors.
Some of the metal components must be from aerospace. Titanium and some ofthe alloys they use. Probably aerspace spc bolts and fastenings.
Genius. Thank you :D
no mclaren launch for me today #roger

It's amazing enough that native english speakers can read it. So yes, I think you should get extra points :)
Hey everyone...
I have a confession to make...
I am starting to fall in love with sports cars.
I am actually getting excited for the Rolex 24hrs.
Do I need to see a doctor?
no.
Here's my criteria:
> 1 wheel
Left AND right turns in all races of the season.
= you're good
Although, I must say, a unicycle race has a certain... "train wreck" appeal to it.
Unicycles.... I don't like anything associated with clowns.
@JPCoast and everyone in Canada and the U.S. I've set up a Sidepodcast league for the Super 7 Sweep at SpeedTV.com.
LINK: http://windtunnel.motorsportspromos.com/Default.aspx
Username: Sidepodcast
Password: Christine
What if the clowns were beating each other with unicycles?
Ahhh... now that is a different story.
I don't know how people can have that good of balance.
Just a reminder, that username and password is for the league. You have to set up your account with the site first.
Morning, everyone. :)
Spam on Aisle 9 (SPC TV and the 2008 Season P2).
Anyway, on to serious business - McLaren launch today. I suspect that the launch car will just be a longer version of the 2009 car (which was more than quick enough by the end of the season anyway).
... and with Newey style nose ?
Possible. But I'm not 100% sure it'll be the case.
What we may see, though, as this season progresses, are more than a few Ferrari-style aero components, depending on the direction set by John Iley.
Morning all!
I survived last night intact ;)
in any case I am going to miss that launch, company party, it is that time of the year
So here's the thing - there were so many 'couch jokes' last night - which was fine. But for the second year running people have not turned up due to excess. That's double standards I reckon ;)
Goodmorning All!
Morning Jon
Hey Jon.
What time is the Macca launch?
for the first time ever I managed to get one of the deck chairs at fed square so I was all ready to be comfy while watching tennis. But the staff just came and took them away! Noooo! Now I am back to sitting on the ground :(
launch time is in the daily ;)
Awww. Poor Amy. But that'll all be forgotten when Fed comes out.
Care to predict the result? I'm thinking Fed in 3.
Ugh. I checked the bullets first, and it wasn't there. It was in the middle of the first paragraph! Silly me. :P
fed in 3 would be lovely but I am far too pessimistic to predict such a thing.
tsonga nearly lost to nole who wasn't 100%. which is why i'm thinking fed will have an easier time of it.
tsonga is one of those guys who you cant underestimate because sometimes he pulls something out of nowhere. But I watched nando beat him at kooyong so it would be nice for both my faves to win. A whole bunch of people wearing swiss stuff just turned up. I think I will like this crowd.
:D I wonder what the crowd mix would be in a Fed-Murray final.
fed square will be more for murray i reckon but i think the actual arena will be more for fed.
Happy Birthday Jackie!
Yeah Happy Birthday ;)
Happy Birthday, Jackie! :D
pssaed it on, spurrgiinsly, eyevrone cloud raed it
This dude made a report of all the stuff he did, got all the people he knew to fill out surveys of him and made graphical reports of it!
http://feltron.com/index.php?/content/2009_annual_report/
I wonder if he is related at all?
Hope you have a Birthday of Happiness Jackie!
that ... is insane :-)
Morning :)
Morning ;)
What have I done now?
Christ! I'm not entirely sure that guy knows what a meaningful relationship is.... I feel very sorry for his ex-wife!
Nothing? Just saying hi... :(
Ex-wife? He got married this year apparently...
New wife as well then.... I'm sure on the first page it mentions an ex-wife.
Hehe okay good morning :D
Yes it does... too much info to dissect in that report. That man needs a blog!
The man needs to get a grip!
that man needs some real life
he would have one, i think. otherwise, there wouldn't have been a lot of data in this survey!
and it looks like he's been doing this for a while too...
Happy Birthday Jackie :)
Morning all.
Morning Chrsitine. How is Friday going for you?
Good enough so far. It's raining and miserable outside, quite glad I'm safe indoors. How about you?
It's been pretty popular he's done a different annual report for the last few years. Each year he picks a different way of measuring the year ahead.
over here worse pollution in ages + a building collapsed not that far from my office. great Friday
Hi Alex,
Thanks for posting me a copy of the Guardian - I got it on Wednesday ;)
Oh no!
I'm fine thanks - you'll be pleased to know I survived the dinner and the 'couch jokes' last night - unlike some others...
on a positive side 2 parties to attend, the first one starts in about an hour. no McLaren launch
hurrah!
"couch jokes"?
go roger!
Wins the first set, then? Looks like he decided to come in on time this time. :D
Remember how I fainted at work last year? The week after I went out for dinner (still sick), drank too much and ended up on a friend's couch. I nearly didn't go last night because of all the silly comments. But they weren't too bad TBH.
However for the second year running, senior people have not come to work today!
go roger again!
Hehe. I feel like you must have typed this a lot in the last few years :)

Morning peeps.
Morning..
maybe frank reads joe too?
howdy :)
He's bloody quick off the draw then!
Ooh, were we going to do a Kimi-Watch post?
oh no. still can if you like?
Thanks for the timing link
Might be fun. If only so we don't lose Kathi's comments in the other stuff :)
Motorsport Magazine on the Silverstone refurb: http://www.motorsportmagazine.co.uk/2010/01/27/the-changing-face-of-silverstone/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+MotorSportMagazine+(Motor+Sport+Magazine)&utm_content=Google+Reader
1) They've already done more work in a few weeks than Donington did EVER.
2) The new layout looks different to other diagrams I have seen...
i'm on it. kathi, i may need help...
yes?
USF1 have a Monocoque now: http://www.racecar-engineering.com/news/cars/440190/us-f1-type-1-progress-continues.html
am just googling for information. if you had to sum up the rally in a paragraph... what might you say?
...and do you have any other links?
Morning all
I can add that the rally is featured in the Richard Burns Rally game, and if you download the RSRBR 2010 addon you can race in the same car as Kimi will ;)
Morning ;)
this is the homepage of the rally http://www.arcticrally.fi/english/arcticlaplandrally.html
Kimi was 13th last year with his Fiat Grande Punto S2000 (which his brother is driving this year)
His best chance for a special stage win will be the super special tonight. He finished 4th there last year.
His team mate Dani Sordo is taking part too in the same car. So it will be the first opportunity to see how far of the WRC drivers Kimi is.
excellent!
it is official now, it is Brabham stand for me in Melbourne
Good morning!
Is the view good there. Im thinking of Fangio stand
Morning all
Federer's breezing it.
I was there last year and it was very OK. also, from there I made it to the podium area in time for the champagne spraying :-)
Fangio is the start finish line one ? I had the race day seat at the start finish line 2 years ago as part of the 4 corners ticket, and the only good things about that seat was good view of the grid before the race and view of the podium celebration. could not see much from the race itself.
Amy, remember what I said? Fed in 3. ;)
Here's a comic called Dank! http://www.telltalegames.com/community/comics/dank/issue-146
Good info. ta mate, You doig predictions yet?
Morning
Gotta go.
won 6v2 in the 3rd
AUTOSPORT on the artic ralli: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81112
I think in about a week time. Working on some minor rules tweaks to follow the new points system in F1.
you going down murray! Ahh both my finals are AWESOME
That was quick???
sweet. cant wait
"The conditions for the event are perfect, with temperatures hovering around -20C and snow still falling."
WOW!
On that form, Fed could do it in 3! But I'll play it safe and say Fed in 4.
this is the best i can do: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/01/29/kimi-looks-for-arctic-rally-opportunity/
and have elevated kathi to "those in the know" status.
oh
that's quite normal, no?
Yeah probably - just sounds awesome to me ;)
we had -28 on Tuesday. As long as it's not too windy and you forget your gloves it's fine :)
Well well well well well.
http://www.twitter.com/legardj
look at that!
heh, I'd heard he'd been convinced to join.. can't remember where now..
Oh 'eck. I hope he's thick-skinned...
may have been Jake and some of the BBC web team
I can't wait for him to talk about Twitter during races now.
If he posts several times in a minute, is he on a charge?
:D
Lets hope indeed. Id even take JA back!!
I giggled.
He has ross brawn and lucas di grassi as followers. what on earth is di grassi on.
awaiting the puns
Is it me or has Sniff Petrol lost the plot?
Giving their name, i'd go with yes.
ill answer that as soon as u tell me who that is
twitter.com/sniffpetrol
They've gone a bit doo-lally by the looks of it
I guess it depends on whether McLaren really were dumb enough to live-project the tweets onto a wall
Sniff Petrol did this before with a live search wall on CAR Magazine's website. I do like the Sniff and GJOS but he is rather juvenile and puerile in his tweets :(
I was thinking the same thing, I wonder if he jests about Lewis' Sideburns because he can't grow any? Who knows
For Amy (although you may have heard this earlier):
And the Beeb's response?
Oh, and another nugget from Fed's interview:
Even so, how often do you hear tennis players making those kinds of jokes? Interesting tack from Fed...
I love funny Roger <3 The digs at British tennis came across more as he was telling them to back off of Andy because the pressure at every single slam to get your first is no fun.
I think it's very good of him to say that.
Mr C, bug for IE6.
I can still click grayed-out buttons (for inactive threads) like Reply and Cancel even if I shouldn't be able to.
noted. ta.
what happens if you reply?
Not that it'll stop the hype, of course...
Nothing. No error.
seriously, the first update on bbc live text?
"In about 15 minutes' time, Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will face off for the right to be roundly thrashed by Great Britain's Andy Murray in Sunday's Australian Open final."
thats absolutely ridiculous.
Although, if I press the gray button, and I activate that thread, it ungrays itself...
They are wayyyy too optmistic for a british tennis player. He must be scottish again. :)
Eurgh! As a Scot I will merrily support the Murray boy but that is shocking journalism....
Scratch that - the error shows up - at the bottom of the page. And way off to the left for me to read it.
It'll jus tbe embaressing
I don't know. He's playing very well at the moment. I wouldn't be shocked if he won. I wouldn't make comments like that either though!!
they also refer to federer as having 'ominously good form'
it's not a bad thing for roger to be good at what he does, bbc.
No, I mean it'll be embaressing if Murray looses, for the journalist, I mean.
I think they're used to it.....
I predict Henin in 3 tomorrow and Fed in 4 on Sunday.
US Open 2008 + Wimbledon 2009 = they're used to it.
And that's before we even go into Tim Henman...
I hope you speak the truth. That would be great.
Don't you like long finals? Is your heart not up for it.... :P
Agreed. Letting the side down!
righto, works calling. back in a bit.
(thread fail)
I can see why you dislike Andy Murray now.
I stop breathing. It's not good for me.
In tennis playing Brit that I DO like news, I also get to see the girls final tomorrow and I really hope Laura Robson wins.
its Lewis Hamilton Hype syndrome.
Although I also dislike Murrays defensive baseline game and the way he celebrates his opponents errors. But if not for the media I'd probably tolerate him a lot more.
This is even worse than the Lewis syndrome was. Probably because the British tennis drought has been a LOT longer. 1926-ish vs. 1996? No chance.
I feel sorry for poor Tim. At least Murray is actually halfway decent.... Tim never really had a chance!
They're starting to do it to Laura as well. On their text updates they were pretending she was winning all her doubles matches singlehandedly until they had a lot of complaints about how that was quite offensive to her partner. Poor Laura, I like her, I don't want to dislike her, but shes only 16! We could be in for years of it!
FWIW, in that mixed doubles nations-cup tourney they had (was it in Adelaide?) a few weeks back, Robson seemed more convincing than Murray.
Hopman Cup, in Perth. Apparently he asked her to be his partner for mixed doubles at the Olympics and she said no :D
I don't understand why they do it though. I'm not sure who actually enjoys reading reporting like that?
Ouch. Why did she say no, though?
Q. It's actually only 74 years since we haven't won a Grand Slam.
ROGER FEDERER: How many years did I say?
Q. You said 150,000.
ROGER FEDERER: I missed it by a little bit (smiling).
Q. Can you imagine what it is like for a nation to have wait for so long to win a Grand Slam?
ROGER FEDERER: You could be one of those nations that never had a Grand Slam champion, you know.
Q. Feels like it.
ROGER FEDERER: No, it doesn't (laughter).
No, I mean, it's just funny, you know, because that's the question he probably gets asked quite a bit. Wouldn't be surprised if he's a bit fed up by it. I think he's done really well, you know, handling the pressure and considering, you know, sort of the media in England is very strong. So I think he's done great, you know, under the pressure.
<3
He can say that because he's Roger Federer. No one else can say that.
And he's said what Andy Murray can never say, lest he get disowned by the media if he lost.
Piquet news, he's definitely doing the ARCA thing. His boss says:
"We are excited to have Nelson driving for us in Daytona this year," Sharp said. "He will represent ESR well, and we believe he will gain some good learning miles in a stock car, especially racing at Daytona."
Have we seen this?
AUTOSPORT Exclusive: First image of new Williams
Well, I'd better go back to bed. Hopefully tomorrow this cold will be going & I'll feel less exhausted. The bad things are not being able to function for any length of time without feeling tired, cracked lips, not wanting to eat much. The good things are getting to watch the McLaren launch, catching up on podcasts & commenting with the SPC community. Catch you later.
Bye Janna, hope you feel better soon
See you Janna. Get well soon.
Feel better!
Take care Janna
Dropio
Hope you feel better soon
There were Choose Your Own Adventure Books about racing. That is way cool.
"If you are having a 1 pit stop strategy, turn to page 45.
If you are having a 2 pit stop strategy, turn to page 32.
If your boss has told you to spin out to help your teammate, turn to the back page to see your contract being cancelled."
Hehehe. I can only find a rally one and a stock car one though.
Aww, still cool though. I used to love the Goosebumps ones.
I think I still own one about Robin Hood, although I'm not sure where it is.
#parentsattic
Just seen this video - very funny!
http://anamchara.com/2007/10/25/nascargot/
*ahem*
It's about NASCAR with time lapse snail video ...
Just noticed the McLaren launch press pack.
http://www.mclaren.com/f1season/2010/presspack2010/index.php
I have only scanned it but I see the FIA post Max still does 360º rule changes. First when we had a safety car the back markers were mixed amongst the leaders then we went 180º and allowed them to unlap themselves now we have gone 360º and they are no longer able to unlap themselves to make the safety car periods shorter. Are we really meant to believe that the FIA couldn't work out that it would take longer for cars to unlap themselves than stay where they were?
Can I just point out that I love my bank! They're far too nice to me....
Awww. I liked that unlapping rule. It meant traffic wasn't a factor on the restart.
Off out again. Enjoy the rest of your Friday folks :)
Why has di licious tweeted (via Google translate): Research: What do you think of using biofuels in F1? Each team could choose their fuel, was not mandatory to use.
Virgin looking into biofuel won't surprise me at all. They might be looking down that path.
One of their partners is a "green" tyre supplier (obviously irrelevant to F1 in 2010) I think, it's obvious they'll want to get involved in that side of things.
HELLO!
good day chap?
Hello.
So yesterday, I was GOING to make a cake, but i didn't. but today I try again. and I will succeed! *air punch*
muffin?
Oooh, cake? What kind?
Brilliant thanks, the Macca guys made us all feel very welcome.
Still pinching myself as I can't believe I went, managed to get a question in to Jenson and Lewis in the Q&A, had a brief chat to Jake Humphrey, a nice conversation with Jonathan Legard (What a nice bloke he was). Threatened with violence by Ted Kravitz (odd...*think* it was tongue in cheek) and have a gazillion photos which I need to work through now.
And a giggle with John Button. All in all it was a lot of fun!
Chocolate!
Sidepodsharing?
what, what and WHAT??
Yes! Can we have some, please?
I find a giggle is far more approachable than a punch in the back
woah.
I'm not sure cake goes through the fax machine...
I can try?
That's what we were laughing about. An over keen photographer was stood on a chair next to him and came tumbling down in the scrum.
I will accept some pictures instead.
The Ted thing I'd better get straight now!
He didn't *actually* pin me up against the wall....he needed his cameraman to get in to where I was to shoot a video clip and he mentioned I might get clobbered if I stayed where I was.....(I couldn't move at that point).
Adie what question did you ask Lewis and Jenson?
I'll see what I can do.
I asked as the McLaren had developed into a competitive car by the end of the season, would Lewis rue the loss of KERS this year, and would Jenson miss the opportunity of not being able to give it a crack in the race.
Lewis said not really, and that was it. Jenson said he did, would have helped at the start as he wouldn't have got swamped by KERS cars and would have found a way to make it work in the race.
Really impressed by JB, wanted to be there and answer questions to the best of his ability. Lewis I thought wasn't that comfortable, not sure if he's finding it hard to adjust to having the focus on JB at the moment.
The Q&A was part of the stream. I've said myself plenty of times today how awkward Lewis seemed
ooh, i think i heard that one, before i left. how cool is that!
It is very awesome, well done Adie! :D
Ooo...I was on Telly. Kind of!
Yeah, he did seem it.
Can you verify whether Lewis was replaced by a clone or a robot?
Lou will be pleased to know that Jules was there too...
Ooh! Will let her know
Pics! :D Although is this Jules' first F1 stint outside Brackley?
What was the live stream like? Did it *work*
In all fairness it was very very good.
much better than ferrari's.
Be nice if it was replayed somewhere...
I was thinking of recording the Q&A as well but I missed the few 2 mins so I didn't do so, bah! :(
I had a few fails, forgot my dictaphone and brought the wrong powerpack for my laptop!
Joe Saward has bits and bobs on his blog...
Seeing as Andrew Benson is never wrong: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8486728.stm
Adam Carroll is linked with the Campos Meta F1 team...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc-0112-jpg
Ooo...this were taken at the back too! I'm looking forward to seeing how these came out. 3rd piccy in...
Good choice, I think. But will he and Senna get a proper crack?
When a driver in his current position in his career flatly denies any involvement with a team, i think being a bit sceptical isnt a bad thing
Afternoon all.
The f1times.co.uk site was mentioned here recently; I notice that even though it had someone at the McLaren launch, the site is carrying a GMM story (plagiarised from Autosport) on what Whitmarsh said about Toyota.
That’s a fail in my book!
From what I read previously, I think the site is just finishing its contract with GMM, but won't renew it.
Oh, what a waste!
That is insane. Why go and then use someone else's copy?
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/01/29/if-you-happen-to-be-in-paris-on-dimanche/
Regarding Renault's Sunday launch. Oh, and read between the lines... ;)
They have Ptrv then?
urm, Petrov. My vowels went walkies.
Looks like it, yep.
:D
What the hell? I was sat right next to them. Why do something so stupid.
You know what my feelings are apropos sites that say, "We know GMM are rubbish but we have to use them..."
I take it this means that they will copy news stories themselves now rather than pay someone else to do it for them!
You're very web 2.0.
Txt lingo and all that? :D
Vwls r s wb 1.0
You would think in that situation they would write something about the experience if being there and if there are facts they don't know they could steal those from someone else. They are just making themselves look like morons
Surely web 20 would be Petrv like Flickr
Hello, anything happening?
Stuart,
Did you pick up my comment on your short cut post. I remember the incident but I have no idea who did it or where. Any ideas?
Nothing to see 'cept another pointy nose
What is Kubica up to today?
http://www.mclaren.com/f1season/2010/presspack2010/intro.php
Apart from some pictures, this is the only coverage they’ve generated themselves:
www.f1times.co.uk/live-mclaren-launch-updates-1695.html
It amounts to "We're sitting behind Jake Humphrey!" "Someone's talking on stage!" No mention of what was actually said. Oh dear.
Poor Kubi, what have they done to him?
it's true. i heard someone had a gun to their head, forcing the copying and pasting of nonsense on an habitual basis.
#gmmfact
No, but I'm going to have a look through the archives of a certain MAGAZINE when I'm back in Teddington.
Sitting in the media room with media. Really? That's like describing sitting in a fish tank and telling people it had fish in it.
mclaren did an interesting thing today, by opening up the launch. that's no way to repay their efforts.
I would have thought some veteran journalist like Joe would remember. For no reason I can think of Derek Daly just popped into my head. Sometimes I worry about my brain.
Derek Daly? How very random. You're in the right era, though.
If it's of interest I'm just penning a thank you to the Media team at McLaren. I feel like it's Christmas anyway (and it's what my Mum would like me to do :D)
May even pre-date his time as an F1 reporter. I'd only have been 10, if that!
good plan.
If you were them and invited bloggers you are going to read what they wrote as a result. If you find a few writing garbage like that then you are going to wait another five years before you invite bloggers again.
Wonder why I ducked as soon as I thought of him. Good old Daly Airlines
true story.
although i guess you could argue, mclaren then did the invited bloggers a disservice by streaming it too.
Do that and post a blog item that says something that is not obvious to anyone watching the video feed. We need to encourage F1 to be more open
Considering one of the media team, during his time as a journalist, remarked to me that the F1 press room was "full of underachievers"... I can imagine the mirth!
Bet Roebuck would remember
Agreed. From what I could tell the only bloggers who were there were the 2 guys from TheF1Times, Keith from F1Fanatic and me. Keith's full time on his blog now so I can't see him writing guff. I certainly don't plan too and have enough notes and pictures for at least 4-5 articles, plus photos, and thoughts on the event as a whole and how thankful I am to McLaren for inviting me.
Yeah we're bloggers, but ultimately we're fans first and as a fan anyone who throws away the opportunity offered today needs to be shot.
In other news, I got in MASSIVE TROUBLE with Mrs C, who learned of my bank holiday bookings by looking at my Twitter status.
Oh dear! I can suggest Milky Bars.
hehe. it's good to give people who desire to be journalists a shot though. almost the exact opposite of ferrari who blocked even sutton from attending.
ouch.
but you're bloggers who want to become more than that, right? as opposed to a fan who fancies meeting jenson.
They had two people in attendance and yet utterly failed to report anything except who was sitting in front of them and that someone on stage was answering some questions? Good grief.
That is never going to end well
interesting, i didn't know that.
did he land a massive inheritance or win the lottery?
he announced it... last month, i think?
not sure, tbh. i guess he's found a way to make a profit from the site.
It's not profit, it's making a living from it that is the trick
that's what i meant. :)
I hadn't heard anyone say that. I would not have thought that was possible unless he has a lot of adverts.
i don't read his stuff.
rubbish.
I heard it too
why leave his day job, though?
it's not possible even with a lot of adverts.
and he doesn't have a lot. just one top banner and one side banner. the rest comes from amazon referrals.
Absolutely, if I could find a way to earn what I do now writing on F1 I'd do it tomorrow.
As above...I'd like to know his secret!
must have an extremely generous fan :-)
Quite. Nobody makes money from ads. The only way forward is sponsorship, which of course brings in the question of impartiality. I know of at least one ‘name’ blogger who has been going around F1 sponsors looking for cash.
i know nothing.
but he's always wanted to be an f1 journalist and i recall saying in 2007 he'd be working for haymarket very soon.
Bradley's column is available if he has his old job back
It's not Campos is it? :-D
again. i don't believe that's enough to employ a person full time. not as a motor sports blogger anyhow. in other markets maybe.
am sticking with the lottery win, or a generous relative.
okay, my weekend starts here... bye
see ya Mav.
My mate from Trinidad keeps asking me how I plan to make money from my blog. He was horrified to learn that I don't. Also, everyone keeps asking me if the Guardian paid me for using my graph...
That appeared not to happen...
oddly, i never thought to ask, i just assumed you didn't plan to.
but i can also see that jon, adie and others would be great at doing this for a living and a blog is brilliant stepping stone. and mclaren too are doing a fab job of helping people along.
Oooh, another online launch! New Virgin car to be launched online on February 3 from Mr Noble
Did they? :p
the next generation of journalists will be bloggers, and it's good McLaren recognize it.
it's all go!
An excuse for a blog post! Yaaay.
Hi everybody.
This is the CFD-only car, right? Interesting...
I like the pre-season. And thank you for your kind words!
An all digital launch for an all digital car, apparently. Maybe they can come sort out my digital freeview signal.
:D
Cakes in the oven..
Wonder if CFD says it should have a pointy nose.
:D
my guess is they saw the mclaren, heaved a sigh of relief and then announced the date.
USF1 nose is fairly pointy as well.
My Dad asked me that last weekend. I thought about it and to be honest, after listening to Joe I'm not so sure. My day job is interesting and fulfilling for the moment, so it's fine to carry on writing the blog 'for fun' for now.
As for the future, let's see what happens. The blog has huge potential, but if adverts don't make enough money I can't see how I would do it without sellling out my impartiality in some way...
how very cynical. :P
Oddly enough, I think my train home is full of tramps...
Hmm. My FTP client (Filezilla) won't connect to my website root. Says home directory not accessible.
Any ideas?!
every time i listen to joe, i thank the stars that i have a desk job :)
i like that it highlights your talents perfectly. before the blog i didn't know what you could do, and now i'm more aware. it's a great CV for your future.
sounds like your host has stuffed up.
For anyone who didn't understand my Daly Airlines comment earlier watch the clip. Mr Daly was involved in a minor bump at the start of Monaco and it is known as the Daly Airlines incident.
I can't believe how high up in the car some of those drivers are. There is no way Patrese's head is in a legal position. It's way too high. He is in the gold car right at the back of the pack. His head is almost level with the rear roll bar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aRdO5LuSk0
That's what I'm thinking. Best fire a mail of to the support team pronto.
Sell your stats to the press.
How?
It seems like it requires a very... err... "special" person to do a job like that.
And by "special" I mean CRAZY.
Thanks man. All my colleagues (and my bosses) know about and like the blog, so it does help me out at work. I am lucky though because in my day job I am given quite a free reign on what I can research and do. They even use some of the stuff I make in department presentations, which I really enjoy ;)
Dear press
Wanna buy some stats?
Love Gavin.
The only way I can see to do it is to have an e-mail campaign listing the kind of info you produce, when you produce it(don't over-promise on timescale) and explain how it would benefit their coverage in explaining a race or strategy decision.
Most other blogs are reporting the bare facts of the sport or opinions you actually have something that could be worth something.
The stuff you write on the blog?! How does it relate to your work?
doing a bit of digging, google ad planner (which is usually accurate about things thing), says the following about f1f:
unique visitors: 200k
page views: 920k
and the traffic numbers graph has barely increased year-on-year:
f1 fanatic advertising stats
sorry, i don't believe that site is bringing in enough cash to support a full-time individual on it's own. that said however, respect to anyone for giving it a go (via what ever means of income).
Just on the subject of site numbers I heard Leo say that he didn't have the figures for how many people watch the iPad launch on his site but on a rough count at one point he had 130,000 viewers. Can't believe his site didn't crash
I am employed as a Data Analyst and I am required to analyse 'operational data'. I do leave clues as to what industry this is for sometimes too ;)
100,000 of those were watching on ustream though?
I couldn't get to it at all.
i had no issues. were you trying live.twit.tv?
yeah, live.twit.tv, I didn't try the ustream.
You should put yourself through a Lean Six Sigma course!
Of course.
Sounds like Continuous Improvement talk... :D
I watched it on the low resolution BitGravity feed and it was perfect all the way through
No-one should do that to themself
all your company data is confidential, but you can show your blog to anyone, any time you need to sell what you do.
same with spc, if christine ever fancies a job change - "here's my awesome daily audio and video show i present."
it's all useful stuff, even if an f1 career isn't the end goal. or even if you have no goal at all.
and its fun toooo
Since I have started heavily promoting my blog (full disclosure: I post links on F1F and it has earned me quite a few regular visitors), my blog gets between 300 and 1200 views per day. It really depends on whether I have recently posted or if someone has linked to a blog post. I think I have seen links in 8 languages now....
fact!
and it's educational, and we get to do stuff together. everybody wins.
thank you! its great fun, its interesting that over the past few years and ive noticed it in the forms that ive filled in so far, that with press accreditation they are now recognising the online media, which is great!
Absolutely. I wouldn't have met any of you lot had I not set up the blog and stumbled in here one day.
The Blogging community is a great one.
woop
totally. i've learnt lots of web stuff just by going through the wordpress theme editing the bits that i need too
apparently google knows nothing about you :)
removing ads from spc means it doesn't no much about us either now.
Also, the blog is a great playground for new techniques of analysis. It has really helped me out, especially with all the great feedback you guys give ;)
don't look at me. i just like pretty graphs.
my girlfriend said to me last night that her friend had suggested selling advertising on my site and i said maybe, she said "google do it" etc etc and i explained that i 'aint going near google adwords
Gavin doesn't exist?
me neither :D
it's comparable to a lot of the other networks.
the problem is online advertising just doesn't work.
Google has disappointed me. It's worthless submitting links, I'm hard to find via searching and my incoming search hits are for often unrelated phrases :(
really? that surprises me. my old wordpress blog was often there. even more so now i dont use it :D
Some of those unrelated phrases can be pretty darn funny sometimes.
was only joking. those figures are based on ad placements and you don't have any do you?
Afternoon everyone :)
Afternoon alex
sir.
Hi Alex
I'm off to the seaside... I think it's the right weather for it. June and July are often the best months for weather in the UK right... Oh... There's another month with a J at the beginning? What's the weather like in this, "January" you speak of?
Uh oh!
Hey alex.
As alex comes in, I go out - to bed. :D
Night, everyone.
of course the other problem with site ads, is that they're mostly flash based (the higher earning ones). which spells bad news for bloggers when the flash-less iPad is released.
Shift change. Seeya!
Shh! Don't tell everyone I'm really a hologram ;)
later chap.
Nope. Zero adverto por mi bloggo :D
Shift change indeed! I'm heading out to the toby carvery for a yummy dinner! See you all later.
no mint sauce!
See ya J.
Ludicrous.
Have fun with Toby's chops ;)
Oh alright as it's Christmas
Hello. How was Lukeh's stock take? Mine was distinctly average, apart from being able to leave slightly earlier!
yay for Jules being there! :).. well.. she came into F1 via Dannii Minogue when she was dating Jacques and i think he was at BAR at the time.. so yes.
hello everyone! :)
#forkathiandamy
New Finn signs for F1 team.
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/01/29/bottas-signs-for-williams/
Just logged on the left coast US...morning/afternoon/evening.
That is some limo McLaren have built. I'm half expecting missiles or other weapons to come out of the body, Airwolf style.
That would liven up Valencia
It depends where the seaside is, if you're off to the beach in Barbados the weather will be just right ;)
& Hello all, awake again, I think the cold may be receding as I feel less rrrrrubish now :)
Glad you are feeling better
Speaking of hits, I'm getting hits on a blog I haven't updated since November, quite a few come from your blog Gavin ;)
I love this story.
http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/news/article.asp?NewsID=5367
That's the way to go.
Is it bad that the first question in my head was..."I wonder what the laptime was"?
;)
Right then, if you were here earlier you may have read about my cake-making-baking exploits
She's a bit like the MP4-25, ugly, but hopefully effective..
Hey guys
Long tough day at Lotus getting all the stock which came back from Autosport and Zaragoza put away again.
But on the plus side, I'm very pleased with the results of the Jalopnik Forza 3 Car Pack results. 4
Is it bad the the first response in my head to your question was "faster than Badoer"? ;)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/cake-2-jpg
As I say, ugly.. but tasty, I hope.
Cakes are female?
I just assumed..
4 of the final 5 cars I had to pick made it into the pack! That's the Lancia 037, Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 :D :D :D, Ford Escort RS Cosworth :D :D :D and the Mercedes 190E AMG Evo II. Sadly the Pug 205 T16 did not :( But that's still a pack I'm definately buying this summer! :D
A few more awesome cars that made it in included the Volvo 240 Grp.A, BMW 635CSi and Mitsubishi Starion. With the BMW M3 E30 also in the game, there's gonna be some epic Group A touring car races in the future! :D
I want to make a cake now....
Mine too.
:D
The picture doesn't seem to be working, I'm new to this drop.io business..
It isn't there as far as I can see. All you should have to do is click the add button and it should upload
here, that's done it
It's there now. Sometimes there is a slight delay
ooh, 5live confirmed jamie's twitter account is real.
Hmm....I think I might want a new logo for the site.
Can I ask a favour please of anyone good with photoshop? Mav....you up for a challenge?
Very good point. Actually I have just remembered. I think I am coming to your neck of the woods.
LUKEH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he's gone out to dinner i think.. he'll be back sure i'm sure.
Then the weather for tomorrow is sunny but a lovely brisk high of 2C
You mean he ignores his headping when he goes out? The boy is obsessed with mint sauce
Oh dear, just looked at the 10 day forecast, scattered snow showers end of next week, just when I need a clear week at work to catch up :(
Or Greggs. Can't forget Greggs.
We might need a mint sauce and/or muse intervention with that young'in.
Love this tweet from toomuchracing:
Welcome to Twitter, BBC F1 commentator @LegardJ! F1 lead comms has generated debate right back to Murray's day, hope you brought a hard hat
:D
If Greggs ever do anything with mint sauce on it he will move in
you forget Rubens ;)
Nice one Pat
hehehe i should make my local greggs exclusively do something with mint sauce in that case :)
ta :-)
Brilliant :-)
I had a rally one once! Of course I had to turn to both pages to see which was the better one
:-) He was really friendly to me. Took a genuine interest in why I was there. Can't say enough nice things!
Wow that sounds like a fantastic day, well done.
i'm sure he's a lovely chap. as i'm sure james allen is.
nobody should trust either of them with a microphone though.
Both of them are good journalists (although JA does annoy me sometimes.. seems to brag about his blog a bit), but they're just not good commentators, plain and simple.
Great to hear you had such a fantastic experience, Adie!
He does come across as a very nice bloke, particularly in the pre-race stuff and on Jake's blog. I'm still not convinced he's the right man for the job he has, but he should be in F1 doing something.
I think he might be a canny decent pitlane reporter.
Last plug from me for 'week 1' of my new game, half an hour left to make your pics should you wish to do so:
http://toomuchracing.com/2010/01/27/game-week-1/
Hullo again
we're only down for 2 days. Sunny sounds good :)
we've got to knock that on the head really.
http://www.bmw-sauber-f1.com/en/index.html?lity=rssfeed_f1
*waves*
Hello Lukeh, Adie posted this earlier:
I think he needs you
oooh, can I be of service?
Thats been like that for a while?
It's only just been tweeted by BMW
And why would you? Its the blog of a fan who likes analysing things. I mean it is fairly unique coverage so you could probably bring in a couple of dollars/euros here and there but it probably wouldn't be enough to counter the effect on the design and the distraction element.
I had Google Ads on the old blog, and okay I didn't have a big readership on it but they weren't really worth the bother. I did have one small paragraph which I was paid for by some company and that wasn't too bad, not sure whether to carry it over.
To go back to the original discussion this was in, I really don't think you can earn a living from a blog, the best you can do is cover some costs like domain names.
since the sauber site went live.
Helloo....
It was a cheeky request earlier. I thought about changing my site logo (it's on the banner of F1TailPipe) the little red square.
Do you fancy a commission paying cyber beers to design a 512 * 512 logo with F1TailPipe, maybe a bit of Button's helmet and a chequered flag in it?
I'd be very thankful.
Pretty please?
Hi.
I just wish we'd had the promised chance for Ted to sub for James in 08. Would have been very interesting.
Of course. Gimme 5 mins
Also, do you want a certain colour scheme or anything?
there are ways to make money from a blog. A certain F1 blog only makes money from being a blog. He quit his job didn't he?
I use dark red on my site a fair bit, so maybe stick with that. I'll trust your artistic flair though.
Thanks mate!
unfortunately you have to do certain things that I'm pretty sure I wouldn't enjoy :)
Speaking of Sauber, anyone know what time they reveal the car?
Lou...what about this one:
http://twitpic.com/10cici
!!!!!!!!!!!!! you got HOW close to him!!! *goes green*... you lucky... lucky person.
I'm pleased you had a great time :) and the photo is awesome!
My SLR paid for itself today :)
Adie I'll finish it off for you later, have a few things to sort out at the mo!
Great pic
ahhhh :D soooo wish i could have gone sounds like such an awesome day :D
Hey you're doing *ME* a favor. Take as long as you like sir!
Thanks again.
http://twitpic.com/10cknd
They enjoyed it. :)
#muststopbeingmeantolounow!
awwwww that's such a lovely photo!! that's what i wanna see happy faces! :)
#needsarubenssmile!
:)
I have a few more. If you want copies for wallpapers you're more than welcome.
Need some help, does the 1994 Footwork actually look good or not??? Todays F1 livery blog post http://lairoftheraven.wordpress.com/2010/01/29/the-good-and-the-bad-–-f1-livery-from-1994/
Had to stop by with this story.
#FakeGMM: According to Claire Williams on Twitter, WilliamsF1 to test physicist Dr. Bruce Banner next Wednesday.
To those that don't know comic books.
If I look at a livery and think of a Miami Vice episode, then probably not.
Looking forward to seeing more of the new Williams, and to see how Dr. Bruce does
One more...http://twitpic.com/10cpdp
It was taken when someone asked how JB felt about going up against Lewis. Good poker face Lewis!
http://twitpic.com/10cpdp
This needs a bubbled caption contest.
Hamilton: ... Jenson, I own you this year.
Lol I still sorta like it. At least it looks a lot better than the 1994 Pacific Racing car did!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81131
This been mensioned?
Very interesting
Have to say I wasn't expecting to see the Virgin car this soon. A virtual launch is a good idea for a small team though, save on the cost of hosting a big launch event. Your website better be able to handle the traffic though.
Yes:
http://onetimoglock.wordpress.com/2010/01/29/virgin-announce-launch-date/
aww thank you
Hehe jenson has finally made it lol he's made the starting credits for a question of sport in one of the videos :)
Eh?
I think this can be filed under 'viral marketing' but it is good to see the car...
Rubens just tweeted This
Oops. Forgot to add the bit at the beginning - that's from Rubens' Twitter account
thats got to be faked. sooooo obviously meant to be there
Who killed TwitPic?
I concur.
Did a good job of quoting that didn't I? :( Meant to say "So thats what Williams where filming yesterday! Quite a smart idea. Rather liking the look of the car after watching that, but still need to see some better shots of it." instead of including it in the quote...
Jonathan Noble just confirmed it came from Claire Williams @ err...Williams...
#sidepodspace
Interesting space thing in an hour's time. Could be could for the photographers. The chance to get a very unusual picture.
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20100128/tsc-mars-and-moon-in-heavenly-show-4b158bc.html
Here are a few photos from today uploaded to Flickr...
Linky Poo
oooo i will keep an eye out :)
love them :D
The drivers look OK with each other in those. Much better than in the video
I'm back. Do you still need the thingy Adie?
Ooo yes please. I'm about to pop out so if you can mail me - editor@f1tailpipe.com you'd be a very kind man!
Will do
You sir, are a gent.
Very clear night. Mars is just too small to see anything on it though.
I found it! My first official piece of USF1 merchandise!
:D
Haha
:D
:)
just had this discussion with christine. even in the best case scenario, you'd be end up maybe £12,000 short of earning a living from blogging (with the biggest expense being hosting).
that's a massive amount of money to find without additional backing. there's no-way ad-revenue can be the full story.
so i've just learnt. however, i question the maths.
do tell?
depends does it not? for you guys the cost will buy alot higher than a text only supplier
I'm surprised that it is even that much.
we're basing it on what it costs us to supply text.
ah ok.
im really interested to see what my provider says is "unlimited bandwidth"
that is in the very best case. i would assume much lower income, and much higher expenditure.
i can't imagine travelling to newbury cost nothing. but that hasn't been factored in, for example.
Concerning Adie's request after various different ideas I decided to go for this
http://i48.tinypic.com/hts3gx.png
it's not infinite. trust me.
NICE!
haha yeah i am aware. the t&c's are very vague on the area, it says something like if they feel it is appropriate use of bandwidth or soemthing rubbish like that.
you'll be fine unless itunes features you on the homepage or something crazy like that.
awesome! i also love that it's the honda helmet! long live honda! ;)
i think itunes will be the least of my problems soon, im moving into video in the near-ish future, and they aint gonna be small videos!
:D
I often find when you go back to basics you find the best results... I was making logos far too complex for 20 minutes or so with no good end result so I think I prefer it like that :)
can recommend youtube? :)
i tried out blip.tv with the go motorsport thing and really like that, so will have more of a look into that. i think id be too long for youtubes
Do you need to buy Lou a Milky Bar?
sadly, i can't recommend them anymore.
they used to be awesome, but now use traffic shaping technology which offers end users a terrible experience (downloads slow to a crawl).
we had complaints about download speed a while back - all blip.tv's fault.
feel free to try it, but their business model didn't stack up and they've had to change to the detriment of the viewer, in my experience.
Just reading the McLaren press pack properly and found one of the changes to the regs that I didn't know about
http://www.mclaren.com/f1season/2010/presspack2010/tech-spec.php
hello, anything interesting happening in sidepodland?
Eating ben and jerry's makes work a lot more fun!
just to back that up. two blog posts from blip.tv that describes how they screw the end user experience:
http://theblog.blip.tv/post/160704246/todays-release-is-out-the-door-this-affects-you
http://theblog.blip.tv/post/167329020/more-changes-to-how-we-stream-videos
Our middle term goal is to aggressively shape download speeds during peak times while allowing “fast as possible” downloads during non-peak times.
i've never heard of any other video provider do this, and they did it without warning and went from being awesome to awful pretty much overnight.
I knew that but didn't know about the wheel rim heaters
The helmet was part of the request! :)
Unfair
am baffled. they no longer heat? so why use them?
It didn't have to be so big. That looked like the response to I am in trouble with Lou but I know how to get out of it
It is not unfair! I'm at work at 10pm on a friday... I should be allowed a sugar rush!
I was just looking at that - Mars and the moon lining up very nicely, no sign of alien invaders though (there was a similar alignment at the start of War of the Worlds if I remember rightly)
Part of the tyre warmer was a heating elemet which heated the wheel rim. That cannot be used now but they can still heat the tyre. I don't get the logic of banning that one piece. Seems like a typical French compromise
madness.
what he said
Mars looks too small even with binoculars to see if there are aliens there but it is 60 million miles away. Don't know about the start of War of the Worlds
hahahaha :D aww Lukeh's yet to do anything bad.. but that would heal things you're right :)
in the book we could see the martians launching their invasion - akin to them being able to see the shuttle launch! that'll be why they call it science fiction
Top priority from the McLaren info. Bob Bell's invention survives
Front suspension
Inboard torsion bar/damper system operated by pushrod and bell crank with a double wishbone arrangement
Rear suspension
Inboard torsion bar/damper system operated by pushrod and bell crank with a double wishbone arrangement
sadly they were originally used on bells and nothing to do with bob
sshhh! Giggles thinks he was right about that.
ooops, that'd be like telling him there is no tooth fairy
in the book we could see the martians launching their invasion - akin to them being able to see the shuttle launch! that'll be why they call it science fiction {Comment #580}
Admittedly, the book was written in 1898, so HG Wells could be forgiven for not quite getting the science right, especially after comparing the gulf between Martian and human intelligence with the one between humans and oxen...
christine's unwell. i banned her from commenting, but she still tweeted, doh!
http://twitter.com/mrschristine/status/8385590964
Exactly the same. I like his version better than it just being a bit of bent metal with a hole in it
That Mrs C eh ;)
Get well soon!
You are supposed to be nice to unwell people not to ban them from doing things
he was a bit a generous to us humans :-)
i said, if she's too sick to cook dinner, she's too sick to comment.
i was clearly to narrow in my specification.
I've just applied for a job as a receptionist at a kart track that's opening near me soon. This is quite exciting, though I am surprised at how rapidly karting is becoming so important to me...
you meany!
its because karting ruuuuuuuules
Harsh!!
have you eaten? not eating dosent help ill people (i hear)
I hope you get it. You could be the next Lewis Hamilton
(but a girl)
but i'm hungry :(
If you're reading this, Mrs C, get well soon.
If Mrs C is not reading this, please could Mr C pass the message on to her?
She needs to stand up to cook and to smell things that don't smell good until they are cooked. Not of that applies to commenting
ring for a takeaway?... that way you get warm food, christine can relax and comment and still eat... win win ;)
she better not be!
she probably read you tweet, but shall do.
is she well enough to receive comments Mr C?
1) oven to 200
2) take pizza OUT of the packaging
3) put on baking tray
4) 20 minutes later. take out.
simples
grrr.
Can you takeaway milky bars?
Order a pizza or make some muffins
not sure we has a pizza.
We all know the answer to that.
Hi Mrs C.
no. but there's a business plan right there.
hmm. what does you have? we can help :D
I hope you get it. You could be the next Lewis Hamilton {Comment #597}
Thank you very much, Steven. As for the "next Lewis Hamilton", that depends. Did Lewis Hamilton ever work as a receptionist? ;)
you stole my comment..
well.. technically you didn't, but i was just about to type that exact same comment.
scary...
and your business idea?
Lukeh's Greggs and Milky Bar Takeaway
Serving Your Every Snack Desire
I'm not sure Greggs will like me using the name Greggs. perhaps I shall use the local Greggs sign that has an R missing
Milky Bar and mint sauce
that too! you're mean when you're hungry :P
she probably read you tweet, but shall do {Comment #603}
Thank you very much, Mr C :)
i didn't know this about me.
I'm not sure there is a market for mint sauce for a snack
:P
Can you takeaway milky bars? {Comment #607}
I don't think so.
While we're working on the business plan, one of the milkshake shops in Sheffield does Milky Bar milkshakes. Maybe you could include those and some Greggshakes (milkshakes made from those elements of Greggs' production which work well with milk) in the takeaway list? I think that the latter will be a unique product in the inventory because I've never seen any savoury or chain-bakery product made into a milkshake before (though I've seen Battenburg milkshakes before and I think you can get Battenburg cake in Greggs).
Battenburg milkshakes? That is just wrong
mmmmm food.
Evening.
Meatshakes. That is all ;)
I'm not sure Greggs will like me using the name Greggs. perhaps I shall use the local Greggs sign that has an R missing {Comment #617}
Depends. Since you will probably have a contract to use only Greggs' produce to the exclusion of all competing bakeries, you might be able to negotiate the use of the name in your shop title to advertise the fact (especially since you are using it as a mark of the high quality of Greggs' produce).
I may have to call it Sidepodgreggs ;)
Battenburg milkshakes? That is just wrong {Comment #626}
Not as wrong as some of the milkshake combinations I've seen them offer. They have competitions for the craziest milkshakes people buy and photograph each weekday. For example, Friday's winner was Areo, Rolo, Refresher, Eggs (mini) and Nutella. In the same cup, accompanied by the usual ice cream and milk.
Personally, I tend to be less adventurous. The most exotic version I've tried is strawberries and fig roll with lime sherbert topping.
It may not surprise you to hear this particular milkshake shop is in Sheffield, which has a notably large student population...
its because karting ruuuuuuuules {Comment #594}
Ah. That might have something to do with it...
LukeH, just got your mail. Thanks mate :)
In other news, write up of the launch - http://bit.ly/cjRuec
Not my thoughts, that's another post entirely!
its my favourite motorsport by far
Need me to change anything or you alright?
I shall let you know...looks good though!
And thank you.
No problemo :)
Being a student and having milkshakes... ah, that takes me back
Of course in our case a "strawberry milkshake" was a rather nasty combination of cider, larger, vodka, advocaat and blackcurrant cordial
I wondered that but wasn't sure whether to ask...
What? You banned an ill person from the comments? The comments keep you going!
PS - get well soon
good luck
#sidepoddiscount?
I like your thinking.
But seriously....good luck!
Is that part of the group that will let you bring almost anything in, and they'll try to make a milkshake out of it?
Hehe, just seen the Williams 'viral' video. I like it! :)
That was their launch! I just love it and Claire's tweets have nice sense of humour. It so much cleverer than the BIG TEAMS!

I'm expecting "Today is Saturday... the, uh, 30th January. The day between Friday and sunday. Urm... discuss."
That should be fun. Enjoy
you're expecting that many capital letters?
Mr C has to use capitals when doing proper posts. It's, like, the law. ;)
You had me going there. I read that earlier and thought I would have noticed that

good luck
#sidepoddiscount? {Comment #642}
Thank you, Pat and Adie - though I wouldn't count on there being discounts unless I am am told otherwise, since I have no idea what their company policy on the subject is.
Is that part of the group that will let you bring almost anything in, and they'll try to make a milkshake out of it? {Comment #644}
It isn't. They have 185 individual flavours in stock (plus three different base liquids), but you can only pick from things in stock, possibly for hygiene reasons.
