Hello Sidepodcastians, it is Tuesday the 28th June 2011. Which means we're a day closer to the weekend! Okay amittedly its not that close... ok I give in it isn't close at all. Lets move on and see what has been happening yesterday:
F1 News
- Pirelli has revealed that they will stay neutral over tyre selection, choosing not to favour one team's preference more than any other. This comes amid Ferrari's concerns over hard tyre after they struggled on in during the race in Barcelona.
- Christian Horner has played down the impact of the blown diffuser regulation change at Silverstone, but it seems that no one really knows what impact the ban will have on the running order. Will it topple Red Bull? or will they stay ahead of the rest?
- After the European Grand Prix, both McLaren drivers urged the team to deliver improvements to the car, with Hamilton concededing that his world championship chances were effectively over because of gaps size, but he has since stated he isn't giving up.
- While Ferrari had an improved showing in Valencia, Fernando Alonso has admitted defeat in the battle for this year's title. On this subject Martin Brundle had a great line:
Like several other drivers he is confirming the apparently inevitable and conceding the championship. And that's from Mr Eternally Optimistic himself.
Martin Brundle
- Jaime Alguersuari (or Tim as he is more commonly known here on Sidepodcast) was delighted with his 8th place in the European Grand Prix after struggling in qualifying. With both Toro Rosso drivers on the same points, the question on who will be replaced has taken an interesting turn.
- The eternal optimist Jarno Trulli has said that the excellent finishing record that modern Formula 1 cars are displaying is reducing the level of excitement in the sport.
Non-F1 Stuff
- Ever wondered what the current web browser wars would look like if they were illustrated? No? Can't say I have either until I saw this brilliant illustration of Chrome, FireFox and Internet Explorer (sorry Safari and Opera you weren't included)
- In Twitter/F1 news Rubens Barrichello has become the first driver to reach the one million mark for Twitter followers. Go Rubens!
- OnLive, the company behind the cloud based gaming service are reportedly in talks with both Sony and Microsoft over brining the service to both the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
Now you probably thought I was going to end this daily with a video, well as it so happens I'm not I'm sorry to say. Which means all that is left for me to do is say I hope you have a good day and I shall see you in the comments!

Todt's lady got herself deported.
To be fair, she was deported by the Burmese dictatorship. I say good on her.
good on her for making the movie. no surprise they do not like her to travel there ...
my folks are almost in Singapore

I wonder if they waved as they went past :)
Good morning Sidepodcasters :)
Morning all
Hello Leigh.
Hi Marti,
How are you today?
Fine :)
Working a little bit, doing some articles about the F1 news.
And you?
Knackered to be honest. In work at the minute, but have interviews, writing and editing to do tonight. Long day ahead.
Are you a journalist?
Not really - just a music industry head with bits of hope on the side
;)
Excellent daily. Jarno Trulli - the eternal optimist :)
Good morning.
The sun is just rising. I'm off to the airport. Probably won't have time to comment there, so I'll see you all really soon! :D
Have a good flight!
Morning Christine / Kai
Have a nice flight Kai and I'll see you tomorrow
Wimbledon ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/wimbledon-2011-day-8
hello comments! i have my german friend staying this week, she had to go and meet her band at 8am this morning so having been up for much longer than usual i have already had such a productive day. I've fixed the printer, fixed dad's new phone, sorted out our internet and painted my nails.
have a great flight Kai!
Morning Lou
Pikes Peak record. Spectacular, amazing on board video: http://www.caranddriverthef1.com/coches/novedades-pruebas/monster-sx4-sport-2011-hill-climb-special-para-subir-el-pikes-peak
Sad news for me today, mum broke my very awesome Honda F1 umbrella. I lend it to her for one day! silly mother!
awesome and very awesome stuff is not meant to be given to anybody !
i know :( but she went out with it yesterday to play golf while i was sleeping :( silly mum.
So, technically, she stole it.
no wonder she broke it, they invented golf clubs just for that purpose.
Stolen from the other thread,
Speaking of Stewarts,
Lewis's nascar mate had some 'bump' action with red bulls at the weekend
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSRIwUgeqaQ
Oooohhh... just got a nice e-mail. For my trip to Spa, I've sourced a room 500 metres from the circuit as opposed to 50 km away which was my original plan
:D
I gather Smoke was angry afterwards
Nascar people always seem to be angry. Either that or going yeeeeee-haaaa :)
Stewart was "angry angry" as opposed to "TV angry" if you know what I mean
WOW!
Same price too !!
:D
Lucky you!
Hi, everyone. :)
Congratulations Leigh :D
Hi Journeyer
Here's the latest RBR podcast... Useful while we wait for the F1 Debrief :D

Yesterday I relistened to that sidepodcast where you (Christine & MrC) were intereviewed. I didn't know you had taken a six monts brake... :O
Last year, yea.

If anyone has an interest in the search for life beyond Earth, it would really help if you could help a project I personally care about. The Allen Telescope Array (a large part of it's funding came from Microsoft's Paul Allen) got defunded in a recent round of budget cuts. To bring it back online, they're doing a Kickstarter like funding drive. If you could help it would be much appreciated.

It was not the end of the world, but did you know that? http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/23degrees/2011/06/newly_discovered_asteroid_2011.html
I saw that via an article on the Astronomy site I prefer, Universe Today. They do a better depth and detail than the standard media.

Interesting:
"Red Bull Racing eyeing new Renault engine deal" - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/92709
Phew. That was close. Fortunately it's not very big 6.3-14 metres. So not much chance of damaging us even though it was incredibly close.
Still it makes a bunker seem like an even more attractive proposition
I heard it was closer than the meteosat :S
Oooohhh... a bunker bunker or a lead covered doghouse?
The positive thing is that we're finding a rock this small days before, larger rocks will be spotted further out and more awareness is a good thing.
It was closer than the geo-stationary satellites. It could easily have wiped out a whole bunch of those.
Fortunately there is nothing else due to come anywhere near as close between now and mid-October which is as far as I have predictions. We have one passing just the other side of the moon in October and that is the next closest. Of course there is nothing to say that something else we don't know about will turn up and whizz past
We still don't have any plan to deal with them though. It's like seeing the train coming if you are tied to the rails. It doesn't stop you getting mollicated
True!
But, I happen to be one of those folks that prefers to know when the end is coming. I do live in the American midwest, where tornados are common, and you usually at least know one is coming. I'd never want to live in California where the huge earthquake could happen at any time with no warning at all.
Well, it's two o'clock in Spain and it's time to have lunch!
See you later :)
Normally I would agree but with space rocks unless we have ten years warning that we are going to be wiped out there won't be a plan in place to deal with it
Have a great lunch. Try to stay out of the way of falling rocks. :)
:D
Don't you worry. I have a brother who is kinda the same thing :P
Good afternoon
For info: Kai's flight has departed [early]
If anyone wants to track the flight, it's the BA178 JFK-LHR

And Joe rips Chris Sylt a new one ...in code, of course
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/06/28/indycars-replacing-f1-the-real-story-behind-the-news/
If that's the one by the 'welcome to Spa Franchorchamps' sign on the walk into the track, that looks very nice
Love it.
Code? What code!
Good point
:)
Interesting, that. Also interesting (in a bad way) is the prospect of Max overthrowing his own anointed successor (Todt) because he has not gone according to Max and Bernie's wishes. Lastly, the prospect of a post-LDM Briatore era at Ferrari is simply terrifying.
Or humourous. This could be like slapstick Jim Carrey comedy
I wouldn't underestimate Flav. You don't win 3 WCCs and 4 WDCs for nothing.
i'm quite glad ari vatanen didn't win, in hindsight.
Hi again :)
A reference back to the IndyCar race at Iowa from Saturday night, does Will Power even remotely look like a guy who was just given a green light by the medical centre.
This is only one week after Simona de Silvestro was cleared to race at Milwaukee, despite suffering from a concussion - what is going on here?
By the way, Power was later taken back to the medical centre and diagnosed with a light concussion....
Help! Anyone could tell me if Jarno Trulli had any kind of problem during the 2010 European Grand Prix?
Thanks!
Apart from his driving?
The cars in front of him didnt break down
You could check the race highlights here http://sidepodcast.com/post/europe-2010-race-highlights or check out the live race thread here http://sidepodcast.com/post/live-europe-2010-the-race
♥
Thanks Janna :)
Anyone else from here going to Joe's Silverstone shindig next month?
*big hugs*
I wonder why did I ask...
Another lovely day out. Just had a haircut and picked up a flapjack, traditional lemonade and treacle tart at one of our town's fine independent food sellers..
My Goodwood tickets arrived. And I'm off to see Ardal O'Hanlon tonight. This week is going well. :)
Ooh, I haven't had treacle tart for ages. Yum!
It was a choice between that and cake but I also haven't had it for ages. After she said they'd run out of baguettes (it is gone 3 after all) it was only going to be inevitable.
Local food shops always good stuff as well. I found a really nice one a few years back but they don't seem to have convenient opening hours.
Mm yeah, I walked by yesterday at 4.15 and it was shut. The one just across from it was shut when I got these today. I nearly went to Costa instead (further to walk).
http://post.ly/2IS8q lovely
Alex,
Please read your mail, I have a request to make of you.
Hi Eric... I saw your e-mail but I can't get to it right now as I'm stuck in a different room... But I will reply shortly :)
No worries. Figured that you hadn't seen it.
you have good eyesight.
he he :)

A blog update about Tracy Champan's Fast Car song.
My post was in Spanish, but there's a useful button over there... ;)
This is interesting. I hadn't seen the misinterpreted comments, but the conversation is worth reading: http://www.nicorosberg.com/2011/06/nico-rosberg-there-was-a-serious-misinterpretation-of-statements/
those journalists sound awful
hehehehehehe http://twitter.com/#!/jakehumphreyf1/status/85730373409046528
If the guy you're interviewing has to keep saying: "What am I meant to say to that?" then your questions are no good.
Hmmmm... I smell an ambush.
You can just imagine how they wrote that up... Terrible!
looks like it.
Just finished another interview. A bit of editing to be done tonight for a bumper podcast coming on Thursday morning
:D
Mr Bunny is too modest so I'll say it. He has a new online radio show.
http://startledbunny.wordpress.com/2011/06/27/out-of-the-frying-pan-into-the-fire/
It is on now here for another 45mins. http://radio-tasc.com/page12.html (play links at bottom)
If anyone has Google Earth, and can help me test an overlay that I just made for the US F1 track layout & conceptual plans, let me know.
I just made a .kmz file and will find a place to upload it before I go to the trouble of making a Google Earth account and posting it.
Ooooh my shiny new htc is here :D
Is this the phone?
Yuss. My old phone broke so I decided to treat myself :D
Very nice
:)
have removed f1 comments from the tennis thread.
eesh, it's not hard people :(
Ooohh-err, not me guv
:)
helpful, thanks.
Sorry :(
Enjoy a little something from the sidepodcast.com back catalogue.

I hadn't heard that before. Good one hehe.
I was surfing the internet and I tried to enter to the webpage MisterC.com.
What I found has nothing to do with F1... http://misterc.com/
Oh my eyes...
Sigh, upon further surfing, found that someone has already done what I was working on. The exception is that my file is larger and has more of the original detail. (the tags that the track press kit had)
I shouldn't have bothered.
It's just sooooo 1995!!
Right folks,
I'm off - see you later
:)
Hey! I was born that year :P
No, it's true. It's quite old-fashioned, to be honest.
It's like a HTML-Rules webpage.
Bye Leigh :)
Hasta manjana. (I think I got that close.)
Yes, you did it quite well!
It would be 'Hasta mañana'
Do British keyboards have the 'ñ' symbol?
American ones do not, I can always drop into the character chooser and pick it out. And if I use a character often enough, use the Alt-key method of entering the code for it.
Like this ¿ñ?
Yes :)

It's Michael Mcintyre.
It's Michael Mcintyre who's a very famous comedian here and father to Nina Andronov ;)
(He looks just like giggles, in case you're not sure :))
Then it all makes sense! I am kinda of lost in all those things... I thought he was a fan.
Lukeh, Christine: Do you have a Facebook account?
christine's is on the sidebar of every page. can't miss it.
Yup, although it's not very interesting. much like facebook :)
Oooooooooooooh Williams are taking their lovely lovely 2011 car to Goodwood. Lucky it's a show car else it may get technical issues just sitting there.
:)
Hehehe.
Be aware if Pastor is driving it.
Heheheh. stay away from the hay bales :)
I don't think they're running anything this year which is a shame as they had a few cars up the hill last year.

Call me geek or freak, but I've been racing backwards (I don't know if that exists) in the Circuit de Catalunya on the F1 2010 game and the track is really interesting. :)
I might be a geek... Catalunya's third turn looks like Spa's Pouhon when you take it backwards.
Evening, thanks for the plug Mr C :-)
twas a great post :)
Well don't know about that but I thought it was interesting. Any idea why that should be?
Kai's landed. Hopefully there's a swift disembarkation and baggage recovery
w00t!
She isn't going to Goodwood on Sunday perchance?
not a clue, be interesting to compare it to other races, see if it's valencia specific?
Shh don't tell Mav he'll want me to blog more.... I might look at Silverstone, unfortunately I've not kept the timing data from the other races
Fri & Sat I think, Janna will know
I do and you are correct, we're going Fri & Sat
Awe no's Mav and I are going on Sunday :-(
Sorry won't see you but I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. Keeping everything crossed for good weather.
It is a shame, that would have been lovely. I hope it's not too hot or I will melt into a greasy blob
Grabbing some food on the go. The guy at Costa just sold me a 'chicken fajeeta' :D
Indeed, I have Factor 50 suncream so we won't be burnt to a crisp if we don't melt.
I am disappointed my the seemingly too small luggage so far
Going somewhere nice?
:)
cause i'm not there.

It's difficult to stream, comment and watch for people at the same time.
I miss my wing man [no pun intended] :)
That's the one you recorded after banning MrC from listening to CroftyF1, no?
What pun?
Hehe, yea. Although I didn't really ban him, he just had to mute for a minute. Literally.
who you calling goose?
Airports and wings
Oh I see. I guess if you have to explain it, it's beyond even a groan....
Especially, ground movements, when there are obstacles to avoid, we station a man at each wing tip to ensure there's enough clearance.
He would be 'the wing man'
Board says 'bags arriving'
There's a Boston near the same time so I can't tell from the accents which lot are coming through right now
Oh my word I've just had some intense customer service. I broke a programme on my computer, had to remove it and couldn't find the licence key to reinstall it. I emailed them and they've replied with it in literally 2 minutes. At 8pm...
Bored now. See, this is how baggage distraction happens!
do you have your digital sign with you?
Airport, no? Try to look for a seat and buy the latest F1 Racing :)
Just randomly tuned into Friends to see Paul Rudd in a episode. I feel like it should be Christine's pleasure to randomly find such a combination.
There's an app for that! :)
Paper? Lord no! I wouldn't stoop that low
Yay!
:)
Oh! What happens with paper! It's nice to keep all the magazines in the shelves :)
Bag in hand apparently

Hi everyone!!!!
*waves*
Hi :)
Welcome to the UK, although I am saying this from Spain.
Hello :)
Welcome to Britain, britain, britain!
Hello, glad you are here safely, looking forward to seeing you soon.
I seem to be missing a steering wheel on this side
Britain is different from the rest of the world ;)
To avoid car sickness I'll speak to you later.
Time to switch off the computer...
Good night everyone :)

Have we mentioned Google+ at all?

Seems incredibly ambitious. Then again I thought Wave had plenty of potential and that failed miserably...
echoes my thoughts. they must've learned something... right?
You would hope so. They've messed up Buzz as well so it makes you wonder.
Wave turned out to be the most fantastic planning tool as I'm sure fellow Spa people will agree so I hope something actually takes off like this with all kinds of combinations included. Google just need to actually make it worthwhile and back up their ideas without giving in and not actually putting the effort to make them worth coming back constantly because they seem to appear then go off 6 months later with no interest.

I dunno, I have felt proud buying the power company on monopoly ;)
How oddly true though!
Hi guys. At Bassano's safe and sound. Had a lovely mini tour of London on the way.
Hurrah!
Hi Kai,
How are you feeling?
Good! I had a nice flight and now I'm getting my bearings.
Kai!! welcome to the UK! :)
Thank you! :)
That whole Wembley Stadium thing is resulting in Muse getting a permanent installation for the band at the stadium now. I still can't get my head around that.
Utterly and completely gobsmacked doesn't begin to explain it!
Goood evening and welcome to the UK Ms Kai.
I have just seen the most excellent comedian Ardal O'Hanlon in our little town, accompanied by Sean Walsh off the telly (Mock the Week etc) (most of the middle aged crowd had no idea about his Mortal Kombat routine which I thought was great, poor bloke).
I might be slightly drunk.
Hi Pat. Sounds like you had a fun night.
Dougal??
Yes it was good. Even if the guy was slightly blurry. I might need glasses after all.
Should've gon... oh. That's the point of this. :)
Apparently he's smarter than Dougal.
What did you see?
Natural History, Harrod's, MI6
Don't tell anyone where Mi6 is! It's a secret!! Shhhh!!
shhhh... I mean, I didn't see anything...
I think what kai meant was the filming for Mission Impossible 6. *nods*
Yep. Yep. That was it.
How long did it take you to get here? either it was a shortish flight or I lost track of time today...
Ooh cool.
:)
those Spooks chaps on BBC1 have already told everyone enough. Damn them and their extremely entertaining ways of spooking people in a different way to Casper the Friendly Ghost.
There must be something in pump beer that makes you more drunk than cans. I had 4 cans on Saturday with little effect, I had 3 from the pump, wow.
6 hours, leaving NY at 8am. Good flight, it went by pretty quickly.
that's Mi5 ;)
Ohh... well a sequel is never as good as it's predecessor. Even a secret one.
I thought it was 8 hours so that's not bad. Maybe 8 was the time we went direct to FL
Off for a little walk, see you guys later on.
Don't get murdered, you are in that London
Mrrr cccc.....
Or Chhrrriissttiiinnee...
....can we have a live thread for Reading and Leeds Festival at the end of August? Pretty pretty pretty super pretty please?
Heheh. Letter through the post earlier. "Do you recall taking part in a telephone survey? You have won a prize up to £20,000, just call us and give us this unique ID."
Small print at the bottom:
"Calls cost £1.53 per minute from a BT Landline"
hahah, let me guess, the call lasts ten minutes...
and really I've 'won' £25 and the opportunity to be put on a marketing list or twenty
