It is Sunday. Mr C and I enjoyed a nice day off from Sidepodcast yesterday, which involved watching the tennis, blogging a bit, catching up on RSS feeds, and commenting. Okay, technically not going completely cold turkey but we have already established that isn't possible. Here are some of the things going on at the moment:

  • Ollie has written a fantastic guide to Goodwood. The Festival of Speed is next weekend, and if you've never been before there are plenty of handy tips and some invaluable advice to help you along your way.
  • There are plans for a new Sidepodmeetup afoot on the wiki. This time heading to a new Continent, Bassano and Journeyer are heading up the plans to meet in a completely different timezone to us. If you're around and about for the as yet unconfirmed meet, please visit the wiki and sign up.
  • This has nothing to do with F1 at all, but I wrote a post earlier about my top five favourite modern Doctor Who episodes, and Lukeh was inspired to write his own thoughts on the up to date Who series'. Please let us know your thoughts if you're a fan, because we're really missing the series this year.

There will be a show later on today, probably starting about 6pm, although we are not confirmed on that time yet. We did enjoy starting later last week because the show was out before the day was done, but it is a bit of a wrench being ready for 6. Stay tuned though, and we'll let you know asap. See you in the comments.

Are you guys going? (I know, I should probably just read the wiki. I'm heading over there now...)

I just uploaded a video of me doing a lap on GP2 in the Brawn. No shot of the car from the outside, it's all in the cockpit. But I'm only starting, will be doing more so I'll have better views.

Done this with just throttle help and auto gears on. Rest of the aids, such as auto brakes and best line showing are off. I really do know Monaco like the back of my hand........even if I do make a few mistakes here.

I have an IRL stream on indycar.com. Thanks Joe

Glad you could watch, it's a good race. Hoping for Marco to ruin his chances with USF1

  • Steven Roy28/06/2009 at 01:12

The free stream is awesome. Choice of five cameras. Are you watching Bernie??

  • Pat W28/06/2009 at 01:12

Glad you could watch, it's a good race. Hoping for Marco to ruin his chances with USF1

Bit late for me to stay with it, if there's another hour or more to run.

Besides I'm still several races behind and I really don't like watching out of sequence, so I'll catch up later.

Bed for me though, see ya :-)

  • Joe in Fla28/06/2009 at 01:12

Indycar does have some really great ideas

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 01:12

    Of course not - he's asleep! :P

    I thought it was terrible?

The main cam only shows the leader and the four onboards are tiny. My opinion may be biased because I never got a clean stream on it.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 01:13

Too bad they ruined it with the politics.

I have just started playing with it. You can get telemetry from any driver

    Night Pat

  • Joe in Fla28/06/2009 at 01:14

Too bad they ruined it with the politics.

One thing they need is a new chassis. That Dallara is butt-ugly, but it's good competitiion for a spec-series

  • Pat W28/06/2009 at 01:17

Still way better than what we get in F1.

Yes, IRL are trying, that's the main thing.

You mean like the Hamilton/Alonso commercial a couple years ago. Yeah, Heikki has always seemed like a good guy, Peter Winsor interviews him alot in his prerace for Speed TV in the US, so we see him alot

ooh very nice. We just get Peter Windsor interviewing Mark Webber 2 or 3 times per race.

In other news, I was just talking to my aunty and she said she got up at midnight to watch Roger play. It's totally genetic.

In football(soccer) there is a saying that you don't pick your team. Your team picks you. A few years ago when I first started watching baseball on TV I saw a couple of Braves games and was probably one game away from being a Braves fan then I saw th Yankees and they chose ,e.

I'm firmly attached to teams in Florida, Rays, Buccaneers, Dolphins and Jaguars. You watch American football?

  • Steven Roy28/06/2009 at 02:14

I watched NFL since the early 80s but have missed a few seasons. In all that time I have neer felt an attachment to one team. There have been teams I have liked at different times but never one that was my team

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 02:15

    Helio is in the wall.

Poor Mutoh and Patrick. Oh well, looks like it'll be between the Ganassi boys and Rahal.

My team, the Buccaneers will be playing in London, I think this year. The NFL is like a drug to me, not as strong as F1 though

They have them here too, then? Awww, a shame.

The commentators aren't even discussing it, though. Is it a taboo topic?

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 02:31

    Commentators said no team orders.

I think it's something they conveniently avoid, but it's not nearly like it is in F1

Would that be me by any chance?

  • Nikki28/06/2009 at 02:34

Joe, the paper is about user-centered design of websites for international/multicultural audiences.

And yes, Steven, you are the procrastination devil. :)

  • Steven Roy28/06/2009 at 02:35

Oh good. I have never been described as that before. Jackie is going to sing live on Sunday night if we can sort out some lyrics and you wouldn't want to be to blame for her being disappinted. I would try myself but it is 3:30am here so well past song writing time.

Straw poll, perhaps: does the design of a website reflect the culture in which it was built, or have sites moved towards universality in layout?

Well, that sounds awfully bookish. Sigh.

  • Steven Roy28/06/2009 at 02:38

Sounds like something Mr C can sink his teeth into. :D

There are a few people who could assist with that but none of them ar here now. I think Lukeh did an assignment recently on something similar and got lots of help.

  • Steven Roy28/06/2009 at 02:39

I wouldn't call it cheating though

It's not cheating it is research

  • Joe in Fla28/06/2009 at 02:39

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 02:40

Straw poll, perhaps: does the design of a website reflect the culture in which it was built, or have sites moved towards universality in layout?

Hmmm. Good question. I think it's moved more towards a universal layout. The presence of sites like Blogger and Wordpress (which provide templates for their users) usually means that it's rare for people to do their own thing in terms of design beyond the basic look and feel.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 02:40

  • Steven Roy28/06/2009 at 02:41

Straw poll, perhaps: does the design of a website reflect the culture in which it was built, or have sites moved towards universality in layout?

There are some sites which could be from any country on the planet but there are sites I have been on where I have been able to identify the country just by looking at it. There is a definite froup of sites which could only be from the USA. They are not top level sites but there is a definite US look.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 02:42

    All girl.

I thought so. Got confused by Joe for a second there. :D

  • Joe in Fla28/06/2009 at 02:42

Yes, he did. Steven Roy would've preferred Dario. :D

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 02:49

    I <3 the internet.

    LOOOOVE it! :D

  • Nikki28/06/2009 at 02:49

    (It's still June 27 here.)

  • Joe in Fla28/06/2009 at 02:50

I feel a sense of loss since Milka was not racing.

  • Steven Roy28/06/2009 at 02:50

    Dixon won? woo!

He was lucky. Definitely team orders. Dario was taking chunks out of him.

  • Nikki28/06/2009 at 02:51

Okay, now I've really got to get writing. If I get done I'll try to tune in for the show tomorrow (for me) later today (for you).

Bye, everyone! Thanks for the help and support!

Amy is there a typical New Zealand or Australian look for a website. We are trying to help Nikki

  • Steven Roy28/06/2009 at 02:52

Good luck Nikki. You really should try to make the live show. They are so much fun

  • Amy28/06/2009 at 02:52

Amy is there a typical New Zealand or Australian look for a website. We are trying to help Nikki

I don't think so. I couldn't pick a site made in NZ or Aus from one made in USA or UK. Might just be me though.

Her assignemnt is on whether there is a universality of design or if there is a cultural variance so I guess wou have answered it

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 02:54

With TG on, they usually record at around... 2 PM EST.

    Whoops - I think it's 1 PM EST.

  • Steven Roy - procrastination devil28/06/2009 at 02:55

what time to they usually start

Just now they start 6pm Uk / 1pm EDT. Normally they start an hour later but the new series of Top Gear has started so the show is early to avoid a clash

  • Joe in Fla28/06/2009 at 02:56

    Good night, Joe!

  • Steven Roy - procrastination devil28/06/2009 at 02:59

Sidepodcast is more fun that golf. Besides you have to allow for the vagaries of sidepodtime. The show will never start on time. It can be a minute late and on occasion where major technical problems occur it can be an hour late. Book an early tee time.

  • Steven Roy - procrastination devil28/06/2009 at 02:59

    Night Joe

  • Jackie28/06/2009 at 08:04

Hehe I'm up having a morning coffee and checking email as you do and see that the wiki sidepodaddiction has been updated to include live commenting on your iPhone (and I presume netbook as well). Oh dear, staight from level 6 to level 11 in one go. 5 stages overnight, that's almost as fast as Amy (sorry Amy)

Hiya, how are you this very fine day?

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 08:50

Hiya, how are you this very fine day?

    Have a tummyache, sadly. :(

    Otherwise, I'm OK.

  • Jackie28/06/2009 at 08:53

Ooh that's not so good. For some reason I feel all full of the joys of spring today

  • Jackie28/06/2009 at 08:54

I'm having this debate with myself in my head .. go shopping or do the ironing. Difficult decision huh?

  • Alison28/06/2009 at 08:55

    Ah cool, I love coffee

  • Alison28/06/2009 at 08:59

    You at work?

I'm not at work now!! That'd be impressive multi-tasking....

But yeah I have to work weekends :( Day off tomorrow though

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:00

But yeah I have to work weekends :( Day off tomorrow though

Do you manage to get your days off on F1 racedays?

  • Alison28/06/2009 at 09:03

Do you manage to get your days off on F1 racedays?

Erm.... Not so much. I do the rotas though, I can usually move my shift around suitably. Saturday mornings are a lost cause for me now though!!

  • Jackie28/06/2009 at 09:04

Ooh don't know if my interest would hold out if I was watching races that I'd taped. That's dedication for you.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:06

Erm.... Not so much. I do the rotas though, I can usually move my shift around suitably. Saturday mornings are a lost cause for me now though!!

Nothing usually happens on Saturday mornings - but it does suck to be working on a weekend.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:07

Ooh don't know if my interest would hold out if I was watching races that I'd taped. That's dedication for you.

Haha! I was watching classic F1 on JTV earlier. :D

  • Alison28/06/2009 at 09:08

Is Qualy not on in the morning? It's been that long since I watched it that I don't know....

They move all the races around so they're in the daytime here. I think I must be the only person who'd prefer them at 4am

  • Jackie28/06/2009 at 09:08

Haha! I was watching classic F1 on JTV earlier. :D

Ah well, that's different :D but watching a race 3 or 4 hours later when the result has been splashed about on the news and the web I just might not bother (unless I liked the result ;) )

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:08

Is Qualy not on in the morning? It's been that long since I watched it that I don't know....

If you're in the UK, it's usually on at 1 PM BST.

    Where are you from, Alison?

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:09

Ah well, that's different :D but watching a race 3 or 4 hours later when the result has been splashed about on the news and the web I just might not bother (unless I liked the result ;) )

    Agreed, agreed. :D

  • Alison28/06/2009 at 09:09

I wouldn't watch it all if I knew the result!! That would be hardcore....

    I am a Brit yes.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:10

    I am a Brit yes.

Yup, so it should be 1 PM your time. Have you been around for live commenting during quali or race?

  • Jackie28/06/2009 at 09:10

Well guys, decision has been made and I'm off for a bit of shopping. Catch you later in time for the show. byeeeee

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:11

    Nope never!! :(

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:13

    Nope never!! :(

Awww, that's a shame! You should join us for those - they're tons of fun. It also helps you keep track on other stuff they may not be showing on TV.

When was the last time you saw a race live on TV?

  • Alison28/06/2009 at 09:14

I was here for the Parade lap last Sunday then had to go which struck me as suitably stupid....

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:14

I was here for the Parade lap last Sunday then had to go which struck me as suitably stupid....

That's because of work? Darn. :( Would you be able to join us for Germany in 2 weeks?

  • Alison28/06/2009 at 09:16

Erm I watched the first 3 of the season live but none after that.

I think I'll be around for Germany yeah. That's more internet related than work.

Anyways, I have to leave now. I hate my job!!

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:16

Hope things pick up for you, Alison. Later.

I'm such a heater nazi. Won't somebody please think of the power bill!

Well, I don't pay it so I can't complain about that, but it is seriously far too hot in here. I'm almost sweating. It's 8pm in the middle of winter and my window is open and I'm sweating!

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 09:50

it was "Mostly Moist" last time he was on the track.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:59

    Sean, don't spoil. :P

I don't think it'll be as good as EP 1, but it's still gonna be very good. :D

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 09:59

it was "Mostly Moist" last time he was on the track.

So he'll set a better time this time?

  • Sean Golding28/06/2009 at 09:59

it was "Mostly Moist" last time he was on the track.

Ah, so they give him another run. I'm guessing 'mostly moist' was Fry's way of putting 'wet'.

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 10:03

Ahh, nothing new to report overnight really. Other than we've got a new stage of Sidepodaddiction. It now goes all the way up to 11, eh Lukeh? ;)

I think a stage 8 is needed: live commenting daily happening, like eating etc.

    happens to us all!

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 10:22

Stephen Fry has been on it before hasn't he?

He drove the old car - the Liana - he hasn't driven the Lucetti yet.

WOW! Tonight's show is gonna be epic :D

The whole series looks pretty epic (spoilers), I don't know how they keep coming up with such great stuff.

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 10:23

magazine? as in on paper? why would I want one of those, I have the internet ;)

  • Sean Golding28/06/2009 at 10:28

So, what time is the show planned for today, 6pm or 7pm?

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 10:29

So, what time is the show planned for today, 6pm or 7pm?

6pm, allows 2 hours for Debrief.

  • Christine28/06/2009 at 10:29

So, what time is the show planned for today, 6pm or 7pm?

Still as per the daily post.

  • Sean Golding28/06/2009 at 10:29

6pm, allows 2 hours for Debrief.

Sweet, only have to stay up until 3am until it starts, not 4!

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 10:43

Sweet, only have to stay up until 3am until it starts, not 4!

I'll probably stay up for the Debrief - but will I make it all the way to the end of TG? :D

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 10:44

I'll probably stay up for the Debrief - but will I make it all the way to the end of TG? :D

    That is the real question.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 10:51

Has this been brought up here?

    http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76602

All I will say is this - Steven Roy is, sadly, right.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 10:54

All I will say is this - Steven Roy is, sadly, right.

    I do find this funny:

"[LDM is] chairman of Fiat but the serious individual who runs it is Sergio Marchionne, and I don't suppose he takes much notice of Luca."

That's funny - most people in Italy would probably say it's LDM who's boss.

  • Sean Golding28/06/2009 at 10:57

Has this been brought up here?

Well, I can't say I'd be sad to see him go. Whether he stands for election or just resigns, i can't see him winning an election at the moment.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 10:58

Well, I can't say I'd be sad to see him go. Whether he stands for election or just resigns, i can't see him winning an election at the moment.

I'm afraid he'd win if he ran again. After all, let's face it, these people "talking him into" running again? That's just him telling the others to vote for him again.

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 10:58

Has this been brought up here?

Max needs to learn that we can go an entire weekend without the need to read yet another interview/press statement about him. Also, all the PR spiel in the world is not going to make me think he doesn't want to be FIA President.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 10:59

Max needs to learn that we can go an entire weekend without the need to read yet another interview/press statement about him. Also, all the PR spiel in the world is not going to make me think he doesn't want to be FIA President.

    Agreed.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:00

    Agreed.

But if anything, the reason he's doing this is because he is being ignored by the people that matter. Which is why he wants to stay in power - so that he isn't ignored.

  • Sean Golding28/06/2009 at 11:01

I'm afraid he'd win if he ran again. After all, let's face it, these people "talking him into" running again? That's just him telling the others to vote for him again.

At the same time though, it could be saying 'call an early election, get it over with.' You may be right though.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:03

At the same time though, it could be saying 'call an early election, get it over with.' You may be right though.

I don't think he'd go for an early election. He'd want to keep it in October to prevent FOTA from having enough time to do a breakaway.

  • Sean Golding28/06/2009 at 11:07

I don't think he'd go for an early election. He'd want to keep it in October to prevent FOTA from having enough time to do a breakaway.

He won't do it, but if he were to lose I'd prefer that he did. It's just like the state governement here. Everyone knows that Labor ain't going to win the next election, get it over with now by calling an early election. They obviously won't, but it would make things so much easier.

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 11:08

But if anything, the reason he's doing this is because he is being ignored by the people that matter. Which is why he wants to stay in power - so that he isn't ignored.

Who in this situation does he define as the people that matter? If it's the WMSC members, then why the need to do so in the public eye, and in a British paper that isn't even that well regarded? If it's the car companies, or even FOTA then the article is saying what, that the FIA is bigger than just Max; we've heard that one before, and I can't see the spiel working on them, either.

Max knows FOTA hate him; but if he's in power, they have no choice but to work with him - and Max likes that.

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 11:12

Max knows FOTA hate him; but if he's in power, they have no choice but to work with him - and Max likes that.

Maybe that's what this is - Max luring FOTA (and everyone else) into a false sense of security before he drops some huge bombshell that throws everything out of harmony again.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:14

Maybe that's what this is - Max luring FOTA (and everyone else) into a false sense of security before he drops some huge bombshell that throws everything out of harmony again.

Still no reaction from FOTA - they really ARE ignoring him. Is there a way they can cut him out of the process if he's in power?

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 11:15

Max knows FOTA hate him; but if he's in power, they have no choice but to work with him - and Max likes that.

The FIA Presidency really should be bigger than a spat with F1 though. It's like a country's president arguing with the head of the teacher's union, and using it as justification for re-election even though he's had 4 fixed terms and the constitution originally said he was only allowed 2.

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 11:16

LDM said he wants all this to stop anyway. Perhaps it's a case of "You go your way, we'll go ours, we'll meet up later and see what the situation is."

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:17

LDM said he wants all this to stop anyway. Perhaps it's a case of "You go your way, we'll go ours, we'll meet up later and see what the situation is."

But I thought the whole point of the war getting prolonged was Max being in power?

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 11:19

But I thought the whole point of the war getting prolonged was Max being in power?

I think we need to see exactly what was agreed in these talks that supposedly saved F1 rather than just what the media is reporting. That way we might understand a little better what the root of the problem is.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:19

I think we need to see exactly what was agreed in these talks that supposedly saved F1 rather than just what the media is reporting. That way we might understand a little better what the root of the problem is.

But unless they talk about it, we won't know anything about it. And it doesn't look like they're talking about it.

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 11:24

I think we need to see exactly what was agreed in these talks that supposedly saved F1 rather than just what the media is reporting. That way we might understand a little better what the root of the problem is.

Also, if anyone wrote/signed anything. A 'gentlemen's agreement' is all well and good, but it isn't enforceable and any party can choose to ignore it at any time, which they already appear to have done.

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 11:25

But unless they talk about it, we won't know anything about it. And it doesn't look like they're talking about it.

I was referring to the talks they held last week. I dunno, maybe there's one or two things they've kept hush hush from the media and that's probably one of the reasons why this supposed peace has been broken once again.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:25

Also, if anyone wrote/signed anything. A 'gentlemen's agreement' is all well and good, but it isn't enforceable and any party can choose to ignore it at any time, which they already appear to have done.

LDM couldn't have been that stupid to simply rely on a handshake... could he? Even if there was a written contract, Max may have found a loophole already.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:26

I was referring to the talks they held last week. I dunno, maybe there's one or two things they've kept hush hush from the media and that's probably one of the reasons why this supposed peace has been broken once again.

So you're thinking Max may not just be getting angry because LDM was "dancing on his grave"?

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 11:31

LDM couldn't have been that stupid to simply rely on a handshake... could he? Even if there was a written contract, Max may have found a loophole already.

A handshake and the joint press conference, perhaps. I can't imagine that such a document wouldn't have been leaked by now, if it really did exist.

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 11:31

So you're thinking Max may not just be getting angry because LDM was "dancing on his grave"?

Max said himself that FOTA had interpreting what had been agreed differently, which must mean there's probably something they're not telling us mere mortals.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:33

Max said himself that FOTA had interpreting what had been agreed differently, which must mean there's probably something they're not telling us mere mortals.

Really? I thought it was only how Max would leave that was being misinterpreted?

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 11:35

Really? I thought it was only how Max would leave that was being misinterpreted?

    Ah, actually you're quite right:

"Mosley is furious that FOTA representatives have claimed that FIA Senate president Michel Boeri is now in change of F1, that he himself was forced out of office and that he would have no role in the FIA once he steps down in October."

  • Sean Golding28/06/2009 at 11:35

LDM couldn't have been that stupid to simply rely on a handshake... could he? Even if there was a written contract, Max may have found a loophole already.

Max wouldn't have signed a written contract unless there WAS a loophole.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:37

    Ah, actually you're quite right:

Max is just looking for an excuse. Even if that rumor didn't come out (I don't think FOTA said that - there's no proof of it), he would've found another reason to want to stay in power.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:38

Max wouldn't have signed a written contract unless there WAS a loophole.

But if CVC do support FOTA, would they support them in a breakaway from Max?

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:39

Oooh, just had a deja vu moment! If only I remembered what was supposed to happen next.

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 11:39

Max wouldn't have signed a written contract unless there WAS a loophole.

Or several, written in nicely arcane legal jargon that give him an out in pretty much every situation.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:43

Or several, written in nicely arcane legal jargon that give him an out in pretty much every situation.

I get it now - even if you locked up Max, Bernie, and Luca in a room and not let them out until they had a resolution (which was indeed what happened on Wednesday), Max would go back on his word anyway once they were let out.

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 11:48

I get it now - even if you locked up Max, Bernie, and Luca in a room and not let them out until they had a resolution (which was indeed what happened on Wednesday), Max would go back on his word anyway once they were let out.

It didn't even take him 24 hours, and technically he had no proof that FOTA were slandering him (or he didn't produce any) so in my opinion he was always going to go back on his word.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 11:55

It didn't even take him 24 hours, and technically he had no proof that FOTA were slandering him (or he didn't produce any) so in my opinion he was always going to go back on his word.

One other conclusion - Max doesn't care so much about his reputation as much as he does about people following him in fear of him.

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 12:03

One other conclusion - Max doesn't care so much about his reputation as much as he does about people following him in fear of him.

I think Max does care for his reputation but only within the FIA, outside of that no, I don't think he does.

  • Alianora La Canta28/06/2009 at 14:02

    And thanks everyone for the help! How the heck will I cite this? {Comment #115}

Since Sidepodcast does not impose a citation method (if it did, then academically that has to be respected, provided it included enough information for someone else to find the referenced item), cite it like an electronic journal with modifications as needed. Yes, blogs are different from bulletin boards, but the specifics of citation do not change because they can be referenced equally precisely - especially since "me" implemented numbered comments.

Your department or institutional handbook should tell you how to cite a website correctly. If not, try reading the University of Sheffield's PDF on the subject}. If you can't get it to load, or it's gobbledygook, then I would suggest the following (and if you use my version, try to ask a member of staff for clarification of the correct approach before handing in the work):

Author* (Year). Entry title. Site title [online], date original entry published (comment number/number range). Available from: URL [Accessed date you last checked it was there].

    * - It says "author surname, initial." in the guidebook I linked to, but use common sense if that's not apparent. The main thing is that the author is identifiable.

  • Christine28/06/2009 at 14:06

Yep. No Bootneck. Have checked on iTunes

    Ace, thanks all :)

  • Alianora La Canta28/06/2009 at 14:06

For example, if I wanted to reference my previous comment, I'd write:

    La Canta, A.* (2009). Daily: 28th June 2009. Sidepodcast [online], 28 June 2009 (304). Available from: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/06/28/daily-28th-june-2009/#comment-373623 [Accessed 29 June 2009].

    * - Or "Alianora La Canta", if I wasn't sure where the surnames and initials in the author's name were.

  • Alianora La Canta28/06/2009 at 14:07

Note that the green colouring of links in your printed academic submissions may lead to reduced marks for not following institutional style guidelines.

  • Lukeh28/06/2009 at 14:08

For example, if I wanted to reference my previous comment, I'd write:

That's spot on I'd say. Have already referenced online sources for university work in the exact same fashion.

  • Alianora La Canta28/06/2009 at 14:10

Note: the in-line reference would be (Author surname, date) just like most other references.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)28/06/2009 at 14:10

    True story,

but then i discovered 4od had hundreds of episodes of it on.

  • Alianora La Canta28/06/2009 at 14:36

    Crowds never forget. Last year in Cardiff, he should have been excluded twice, referee though excluded the other drivers involved. Everyone disagreed with it. 12 months later, it seems no body still likes him. {Comment #311}

Sounds like Piquet Jr. at Silverstone (who, at least on the Friday, was generally greeted with laughter due to a quiet resentment that he stayed in F1 in 2009) or Hamilton in Spain (who, in 2008, was greeted with much jeering because he was blamed for Alonso's troubled 2007 season)...

I needed ear defenders for the klaxons at Silverstone. I remember taking off the defenders after Saturday practise - and sticking them back on 30 seconds later as five or six of them were blown for no apparent reason. They weren't as loud as the Typhoon though...

Anyone who wants a shoutout, got any thoughts on how your season is going, having a great battle with someone, let us know and we'll squeeze you in the show.

We'll introduce hashtags into the comments for this one. #fr and the funky new filter will help us find them :)

    Team RubberGoat Racing Press Release:

Well, it's half term in the 2009 Season and Team RubberGoat Racing have shown undivided loyalty to it's 6 drivers: Button, Barrichello, Vettel, Glock, Kubica and Sutil through thick and thin, wins and spins, great passing and donkey driving.

The team has done well this year, with at least half the drivers scoring well in each of the races so far, meaning the team is in 48th place in the Sidepodcast Fantasy Racers League.

Team Boss Gavin Brown: "I am happy so far with our performances this year. We have had some strong drives but there is still plenty of room for improvement. No driver on our roster should think of themselves as irreplacable, especially that German who runs like a girl and the Polish guy who complains a lot and looks like Lurch from the Addams Family."

The team will be competing in the next round of the 2009 Fantasy Racers F1 championship at the Nurburgring on the 12th of July.

#fr Formula Muse - I think I'm about 60th at the moment; no need for hysteria about such a position but at the same time, it's not something the knights of cydonia would rave about. Time is running out in all fairness, so as long as my drivers don't get sucked into a supermassive black hole, you won't see me and my team in a fury about our fortunes, it could soon turn into bliss and end up in me feeling good.

Plus, Turn 10 have said on their blog on the FM3 website:

#fr I think so that we have a good package for sure but we have to wait and see about the new rule but it's the same for everybody.

  • Journeyer28/06/2009 at 15:48

#fr the Journeyer-owned and operated Scuderia Mille Miglia is running a solid, if unspectacular 104th. Brawn drivers Button and Barrichello have been regular fixtures in the team since Australia, with both drivers scoring well. RBR drivers Webber and Vettel joined them too late for their 1-2 in China to count, but both are still scoring very well. After an initial struggle finding a 5th driver, Kubica has now fit that role very well. The goal now of Scuderia Mille Miglia is to finish the season in the Top 100 and to beat Christine's Sidepodcast Racers outfit.

  • Lukeh28/06/2009 at 15:48

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 15:51

#fr Zero Downforce - The team which bares the name of my blog is my highest placed team, albeit 192nd. But with a decent points haul from Silverstone and both Brawn and Red Bull drivers making up the squad, I think there's a chance a shift up the order might be possible. But then again, I've not really paid attention to FR for a while now, so what do I know?! For sure, it will be tough. :D

  • Jon Waldock28/06/2009 at 15:58

#fr still inside the top 20, 'Force Honda B Team' has vastly out performed it's previous incarnation 'Better than Massa in Oz' followed by 'Better than Massa at Silverstone' and has very rarely left the top 20. Following a strategy of Diffuser gate teams followed by BUY BUY BUY RED BULL, the luck continues. We've worked hard and developed the car into a real race winner, we'll keep the development going and hopefully by the end of the season we should be somewhere near the top.

  • Rachel28/06/2009 at 16:05

Believe me it doesn't make any difference. You guys are full of hormones and you can be the calmest, most intelligent, best trained driver and it is still only dumb luck that you live long enough to get some sense.

  • Steven Roy - procratsination devil28/06/2009 at 19:12

    What are you saying Steven?

  • Bassano "The Godfather" Clapper28/06/2009 at 19:14

As I was leaving, my mate said we'll sit down soon and have a chat about my role.

Shame I didn't get that earlier, before I agreed at the last minute.

  • lou28/06/2009 at 19:15

ooo hammond failed first time, as did James :) no pressure for me to pass first time then :)

  • Nick28/06/2009 at 19:17

ooo hammond failed first time, as did James :) no pressure for me to pass first time then :)

    i did it 3 times...

although that was mainly because i had only been to the place i did the test 3 times before.

  • Bassano "The Godfather" Clapper28/06/2009 at 19:18

ooo hammond failed first time, as did James :) no pressure for me to pass first time then :)

    i passed third time!

Wasn't ready the first time. Second was poor luck.

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 19:18

    HAHAHA! James' face :D

  • Steven Roy - procratsination devil28/06/2009 at 19:19

    What are you saying Steven?

What I am saying is that the ast majority of young guys take way too many risks in cars and think they are better and safer than they really are.

No-one would say I wasn't intelligent. I am the calmest person on the planet and I passed my advanced driving test at 19. At the age of 19 I was teaching advanced driving to an 18 year old student and a retired bank manager. I only ever had one pupil fail an advanced driving test. I was assessed as being of the standard to pass the ROSPA gold award which is the highest civilian driving qualification in Britain by a police advanced driver at the age of 20 although I never sat the test. I spent a one or two evenings a week voluntarily teaching advanced driving every week and was obsessed by it.

The reason I am here today is not that I had the right personality or training or intelligence. It is nothing more than dumb luck.

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 19:19

Oh yeah - here comes THE race :D

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 19:20

  • Jon Waldock28/06/2009 at 19:20

    What I am saying....

    Drag

  • Jon Waldock28/06/2009 at 20:01

    That was predictable

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 20:01

    VEYRON WIIIIIINS!

  • Nick28/06/2009 at 20:02

Drag racing like this is pointless

It makes sense to people who dont like motorsport.

Millions more people have raced between lights than have ever been on a track

  • Steven Roy - procratsination devil28/06/2009 at 20:03

What was the point to that? They would be as well racing two trains. Put them on a track and lets see what happens. I can't believe anyone wasted the budget to do that.

  • Joe in Fla28/06/2009 at 20:03

What was the point to that? They would be as well racing two trains. Put them on a track and lets see what happens. I can't believe anyone wasted the budget to do that.

What drag racing are you watching?

  • Flibster28/06/2009 at 20:03

After all that money and technology and power...

It's only slightly faster than the F1 :D

I'd certainly have the F1 over the Veyron every time.

  • Pat W28/06/2009 at 20:03

and now to the annoying buzzing fans in South Africa, where Brazil equalised against the US. 2-2. Not really into footie but I like the internationals and I like that the US is an improving underdog.

  • Steven Roy - procratsination devil28/06/2009 at 20:04

Millions more people have raced between lights than have ever been on a track

Racing between the lights i one thing but not to 200mph. Between the lights the Veyron would be hopeless compared to the McLaren. It didn't catch it till about 150mph

  • Pat W28/06/2009 at 20:04

I'd certainly have the F1 over the Veyron every time.

    me too

  • Nick28/06/2009 at 20:04

What drag racing are you watching?

Mclaren F1 (supercar) vs Bugatti Veyron in Abu Dhabi on Top Gear

  • Steven Roy - procratsination devil28/06/2009 at 20:05

What drag racing are you watching?

Top Gear had a 4 mile piece of road in the middle east and raced a Bugatti Veyron agianst a McLaren F1.

  • RG - The Fisi of Sidepodcast28/06/2009 at 20:05

Because you are a track fan. Everyone who's not loves to see 2 cars just race, even though its pointless

  • Steven Roy - procratsination devil28/06/2009 at 20:05

I'd certainly have the F1 over the Veyron every time.

I don't think it is even a contest. Given the choice who is going to take a Veyron

  • Scott Woodwiss28/06/2009 at 20:05

    I can't wait till I'm 17 now.

    Enjoy your beige Volvo then.

Mclaren F1 (supercar) vs Bugatti Veyron in Abu Dhabi on Top Gear

Got it. I watched part of the show they took the mucsle cars from SF to the salt flats. The time in Reno was pretty funny

  • Nick28/06/2009 at 20:05

Racing between the lights i one thing but not to 200mph. Between the lights the Veyron would be hopeless compared to the McLaren. It didn't catch it till about 150mph

True. But if they had the road closed and the cars available to do what they did, it would have been silly not to really

  • Flibster28/06/2009 at 20:06

It was surprisingly close, even though Bugatti have said that if you start a McLaren at 100mph and a Veyron at 0mph, the Bugatti will reach 200mph first.

    Didn't show that today.

  • Pat W28/06/2009 at 20:06

I don't think it is even a contest. Given the choice who is going to take a Veyron

Posers who must have the biggest and most advanced.

True. But if they had the road closed and the cars available to do what they did, it would have been silly not to really

  • RG - The Fisi of Sidepodcast28/06/2009 at 20:07

Insurers just take the pee now.

My sister at the age of 18 tried to insure a 900cc 12yr old Chinquecento iirc

Cost her... £1700 third party fire and theft.

    paid £300 for the car.

  • Alison28/06/2009 at 20:29

Hahahaha! When you're young, 3rd party isn't really cheaper though. They're worried you're gonna smash up someone else's Jag or knock their house down or something.....

We record for an hour and a half, maybe two hours. Finished show is anywhere between 30 mins and 40. It's not usually a lot of content being dropped, but the big gaps we do as we read the comments and prepare for the next bit.

I know the feeling - if I am working on a race day I have to make sure no one tells me the result and then watch the iPlayer replay as soon as it appears (which seems to take ages by the way). I can't watch the Debrief live as I'm usually still watching iPlayer.

Stephen Fry is so lovely in real life, well to his qi audience anyway :)

Local boy to my hown town, and to Scott.

Same as Bill Bryson and Seasick Steve.

People love Norfolk - god knows why!
