It's the weekend! It's been a long old week (aren't they all?) and I don't know about you but I am looking forward to some downtime. Whilst there is no racing for a couple of weeks, I'm pretty sure there'll be enough F1 nonsense to keep us going. Meanwhile, the blogs have been particularly active.
- Not content with setting up one new blog, Nick has only gone and added another to his lineup. With the politics side of things a particularly serious topic, Nick's turned his attention to all things satirical with: Not the F1 News.
- When Shell invited us to join them for Friday Free Practice at Silverstone, we were glad to find we weren't the only bloggers/podcasters in attendance. We had a good chat with F1 Punter, who in turn made the most of his day and has now done a sterling job of writing up his fuel findings.
- In last week's show we mentioned that we bumped into Fraggle in the SRC building, but according to her Flickr photos, we were the least interesting people she met. There's Jackie Stewart and Heikki Kovalainen (sorry Amy!) plus many more. Take a look.
As ever, let us know what you're up to this weekend, if it's anything exciting, and equally if it is not. I will see you in the comments.
I'm up to visiting Grandma a lot, catching up on food shopping and trying to get my blog back up to date (I owe four entries by now, according to my internal blogging schedule)...
It's Saturday already?
I have to by a Christening present and then prepare for a day spent with about 100 Italians
[Believe me, that needs prep, ask Gavin]
I read that as Christmas present, got very confused
Ooh, great for Mac users [and possibly SPC] on the move:
Pogoplug is a network drive adapter coupled with a web service that allows you to access a personal drive from anywhere on the Internet without having to worry about firewalls and other security issues
TUAW
:D
That would be easy
One year I'm gonna get my Christmas shopping done before November, just pick 'em up as I see 'em
[Will probably never happen]
Hallo! After I unexpectedly became FOFA Chairman I really had no time to pop in. Quite surreal: I wrote a letter to FOTA and they responded, nice.
Then tried to post a comment on Ed Gorman's blog and it wasn't approved, did Ed get scared? Now I'm planning to turn up at Monaco next year doing some propaganda for FOFA. It was great to see big crowds at Silverstone. Cheers.
Hey Mr Chairman,
I hope you are putting pressure on FOTA to deliver on the promises they were making to the fans over the Silverstone weekend about cheaper ticket prices etc.
Absolutely, I'm thinking of petition online to demand lower ticket prices, it's just that my current troops are not sure how it can be done. There's no know-how so maybe you guys could drop a suggestion?
FOTA needs an official Twitter account, then they really exist and we can hassle them... give them our feedback, I mean
You can set up an online petition for free at http://www.petitiononline.com/
cooooool!
Perhaps a website/ blog to outline the manifesto and post press releases with a link to a petition
i would suggest a badge/banner for people to put on their websites? or failing that, dare i say some kind or twitter avatar (but they get annoying quickly).
I'll check it out, thank you. I had to change my internet connection because now I have to spend much more time doing stuff I normally wouldn't do. Got huge internet bill from vodafone this month, at least I know my money went into improving Heikki's car.
Yeah, how do it do it??? Educate me, I'm not THAT advanced. FOFA has twitter account but I'm not using it 100%.
best thing to do is befriend this chappie on flickr:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewmurdoch/tags/maxout/
andrew appears to be an expert in this field. i would guess if you can lean on the guy to create a couple for you, things would start spreading pretty rapidly.
When did Guinness start add "Contains Barley" to their packaging?
No sh*t Sherlock!
packaging?
There's a blog already which I'm using for it, click on my name, can't post any links here, danger of comment ending up in moderation.
I'm off. Will pop in tomorrow I mean later today.
Well, in this case, the cardboard around the 4-pack that's promoting a game with odd shaped balls [slightly censored joke]
no moderation here sir: http://www.sidepodcast.com/realtime/
give it a try.
Sure, I'll do it. Merci.
ah. does it also say "may contain lethal shots, just say no" too?
The only shots allowed in a guinness is a large port
Very tasty but lethal
[The best kind ;)]
Mr C need not apply in case of severe 'man-flu'
:D
You know you enjoyed it at the time!
Well, at least till Christine spoke to you
as if i can remember!
;)
That's 'week-long' hangover to everyone else ;)
[He needs more practice]
reminds me of a drink from uni..
pint of cider, 1 or 2 shots of gin and 1 or 2 of blackcurrent cordial
was this the sidepodscience meet up?
Wait until I get to unleash the black sambucca chilli mojitos on Giggles
I'm sure that's why he hasn't returned to Dulwich
hey, he can do video now...
Had the same with Vodka, was called a Purple B*****d
Will possibly pick up an iPhone tomorrow, is a possibilty too easy to drop.io
[tonight's guinness consumption dependant ;)]
good man. can't wait.
Mr C:
Did you see the Pogoplug link I referred too earlier?
[Perfect filter opportunity]
i did, but we discounted it for some reason. i forget why though cause leo is raving about it.
i guess with drop.io we don't really have a use for it?
ace!
Figured I should do so before Montreal, which I have decided to go ahead with
May prompt you for an SPC international meet-up shout-out on Sunday
Does now support HFS+
[didn't before]
Access of personal files?
we have more than one drop. many more.
I have two!
blimey. go you!
certainly can do. i may be banned from reading comments again though, so gives me a headsup a bit earlier if poss.
And a large Rapdshare account
so would you still pogo plug? i don't see what it does that a drop can't?
:D
Now why could that be? :D
I know better than to tell you now and think it's a given ;)
heeh! oops.
Just to let the other sidepodders know what we have to put up with in regards to media coverage of F1 here in Australia, let me provide this example. ABC (kinda equivalent to BBC) reported that the "FOTO breakaway series had been thwarted." I just wanted to pull my hair out.
Your iPhoto/Aperture/iTunes back-ups?
that the band that sang "africa"?
perhaps it was a series of exhibitions by chocolate bar photographers?
I struggled to catch every race when I travelled Australia, helped only by the fact that it was Webber's maiden year, I think - 2002
:D
Fink so
not much use though, the plug sits on the end of your disk in your house, right?
I had to ask myself whether there was yet another rival series.
Remote access
Yeah, I know, but there must be a market for it
[Self-employed Media types?]
I see a flaw in my argument - the outside
Am feeling more and more that there should be
beats me. like i said leo raved about it, i checked it out but couldn't figure a use for it.
:D
I have pretty much abandoned TV coverage. I watch it with you guys and live timing coupled with the Justin tv feeds. Altogether better. I have found it difficult to comment during the race lately. Might have something to do with a certain Queanbeyan lad doing a little better this year.
we still appreciate ya stopping by though :)
The only benefit I can see to 440ml cans of booze is when I walk into the kitchen and try to convert 8 x empty cans of Guinness into pints and in my [inevitable] hungover state, calculate it to be approx 4.5 pints :D
TV sucks, consumer downloads rule
[Other audio visual media are available]
p.s.
Am only on can 4 but we all know where this will end ;)
I had to look that up, apparently its the biggest hole in Australia?
how many do you have?
8
hehehehehe.
I run a strict house
I guess it will end there then?
He knows the score ;)
Most likely
The 24hr store is about 400m away
If I wasn't so lazy I would be in trouble
Sambuca wasn't it? ;)
*biiig drunken hugs*
Is also why I don't keep alcohol in the cupboard
Damn thise Irish genes of mine
Its like talking to a mirror
Aye
Only cos they didn't sell c**k s***ing cowboys at the sidepod meet-up pub
:)
Or new trousers... ;)
haha!
That's far too close to Canberra for my liking
Incidently, I met a Canberra chick [excuse the vernacular] a couple of weeks ago, she was impressed that I thought she may be a 'crow eater' in the you're not from sydney game
Alas, Giggles wasn't in the shots at the bar party
This conversation is getting dodgier by the post
And yet, is all true and not in the least unsavoury
am still gonna call it a night. out of calsberg, and no more wine either.
catch ya all tomorrow.
I fear i may have been unfair on queenbeyan, it is infact a town!
-1 point unless it's of the danish variety
G'night
Night Mr C
I should probably go too... I have a reunion tomorrow, dont want to be too hungover
Noooooo, best way
[honest]
northhampton :(
Wouldn't go that far. Mark Webber's hometown and often referred to as "Struggletown" from just over the boder here in the capital. Has produced a few "famous" types. David Campese, Rugby Union legend. George Lazenby, James Bond in "On Her Majesty's...."
maybe, but i fear the real hangover will hit on sunday night
Would consult paypal lest I fear it went towards audio equipment or such ;)
Google lied to me ...http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=queenbeyan
Even better ;)
:D
am gone now.
That's urban dictionary for you
At this time of night i would trust gmm
It would appear the nearest SPC listener to Montreal is in Ottawa
http://platial.com/map/Sidepodcast-s-Listeners/594335/
Doesn't seem that far but am sure it really is
:D
As I thought
Approx 120 miles
Nick, you really should be on the SPC regulars Wiki by now
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/SPC+Regulars
I'm still not that good with the wiki... I might vanish completely after my voicemail!
:D
Nah, we've got ya now
If you don't like the wiki, try the parent map site [I prefer it]
http://platial.com/map/Sidepodcast-s-Listeners/594335/#post4373061
Now numbering 236!
Ive done that...Look around the gulf region ;)
Once was here :)
We can all do that ;)
A lot of my colleagues rave about Dubai
What's it all about?
Lol, i grew up there...
will do a wiki page one day... maybe soonish
Flashy hotels don't do it for me
I usually go deep, deep when on tour
It used to be nice... started getting bad about 2002
Oman & Bahrain seem to be gaining popularity lately though
[Euro/American money moved in big time?]
Its pretty good, you can make fun of the shallow people who think they have made it, The bars are pretty good if you do that.
Ski slope is great. Old parts of the city are great if you know whats going on, and the waterparks are good too. It probably has the best restaurnts in the world.
All you can eat and drink buffets for 15 quid (with alcohol)
I mostly just go now to see my friends and stop over on route elsewhere
Bahrain is just Dubai without the buzz... i dont really like it.
Oman is much more chilled, really friendly people
Soounds like SE Asia except for the waterparks & skiing :)
[My fave corner of the world]
The money is local. Euro/American Yuppies moved in to chase it, the city grew too fast, the traffic is really bad now. will hopefully get better soon.
As a rule, traffic doesn't get better :D
Its not realy like anywhere... you have to see it yourself.
Its looks quite American, very modern, but with lots of South Asians and Europeans about
Metro opens in a september, also they are building roads which are really needed
Sounds intriguing, will add it to the list
[Note, this is almost as large as Mr C's infamous one]
My fave place is Vietnam. If I make it to Peru any time soon it could be bettered [Or fall way short of expectations]
The recession has hit pretty hard at the moment, but yeah its worth seeing, add a few days as a stopover on the way to somewhere and see if you want to go deeper. the city has many sides.
I feel I should visit Journeyer sometime soon, that'll have to be 2010
I am debating between south america or cornwall this summer.
Cornwall is winning at the moment as it is summer.
Research the [whole] costs well, S. America won't be far behind
I never travel during English summers
The costs even out, Cornwall will be for longer. might even work down there for a bit.
I feel like learning to surf.
Surf in Brasil, Argentina, etc
Plus Cornwall's weather will be cack for 48.3% of the time
Fact
Im thinking about that. Might be fun to learn there, or learn here then go there later on...
Thats why they invented cyder!
Go far young, stay younger longer
[My mantra]
Right i need to go to bed, i am sure the conversation will be interesting to everyone in the morning!
Night! good luck with the cans :D
Happy hangover
Rightbackatcha!
Morning, everyone.
Has this comment from JA been discussed already?
Hello matey
I think you just kicked the tumbleweeds away
JA was mentioned earlier as I arrived, think it was more to do with his press conf. role though
Personally, he's starting to annoy me again
Yay! :D Won't be here too long though, leaving to watch Transformers in an hour or so...
Even his writing? It's still pretty darn good.
Do feed back please
Am undecided on that one
[]I have unwittingly entered into an IMAX cycle and want to see Term: Salv SOON - alas not available yet]
Yeah, think his personality is seeping through with familiarity
Sure, will do. But haven't the others watched it already? It's been on theatres there since last week.
I guess so, but I don't notice it too much.
I've suffered too many years of his ITV commentary and discovered Joe Saward and Croftie
Some have said 'awesome', some 'ok'
I probably will but...
they probably mean awesome CGI, OK plot... :D
Isn't Joe amazing? The Joe-SPC tie-up is amazing. D
Since the Dark Knight, I haven't seen a non-IMAX film in cinemas
Was reading yesterday about early snippets of Cameron's Avatar and
Just. Cannot. Wait
:D That's a [McGee] given
It really is, so great for both sides too
I should trademark that
A McGee Given™
[that which is expected and needs no excuse or explanation]
What's that movie about? First time I've heard of it. Who's in it, too?
Ooooh... Worthy of a dictionary entry, that.
It's James Cameron....
Just a sec
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8116494.stm
Have been waiting a couple of years for this... at least
Sounds as ground breaking as The Abyss
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8116494.stm
Unfortunate double link there
Mr Arthur Guinness is to blame
[Not S. Roy or Lou]
Everyone seems amazed by it. Let's hope it lives up to the hype, no?
So, apparently it's McG
Never thought I'd have to excuse my spelling to such an artiste
Cameron hasn't disappoint [me] yet
Is a genius in my eyes
Journeyer: You may wish to track back to comments circa 02:33 and a little bit before
Yay! :D That will be fun. ;) Let me know when you've decided when to go - I might have to go Stateside sometime in May for a wedding...
Am flexible with timings :D
Bonus points if we can tempt another
Shall begin bugging Giggles as of Monday
[Can now temproarily add him to staff travel nominations if needed]
{I didn't say that}
We should be able to tempt Wolf - HK is but 2 hours away from Manila. :)
Have started the process already :D
w00t!
Will copy in Wolf now
Started early, 2 mins ago :D
Hahaha! Are you bugging by email? You do have my address, right?
I don't think so
I'm [user name] @ hotmail.com
Shall reply from another but similar
Yep, didn't want to wake him by text :D
I use gmail. Account name is pc.[username]
Test 1
This feels like a NASA launch :D
Reply sent.
I hope it goes better than tonight's NASA launch
Sorted
:D
2010 meet-up plans initiated
As do I
What are you doing anytime next year Steven? See below [or above depending on SPC client]
I have no plans as yet
This needs a wiki page...
Hey guys
sidepodspace update
The launch which was scrubbed will now be at 6:14pm EDT / 11:14 UK Saturday. Launch window is one hour. NASA predicting a 40% chance of good weather. You have to wonder how anyone can make a decision to re-schedule when there is only a 40% chance of acceptable weather.
Hey Joe
Ah, Joe. Great timing
Is this a non-shuttle launch or is that the back-up, back-up plan?
Usually that's when the thunderstorms are tapering off. I think the entire state was stormy today. We had a waterspout just off our island
... where you goin' with that gun in your hand ...
I scrolled down, what are you asking about?
That's a good one
It looks like everyone associated with the Jackson family is protecting themselves. THe family lawyer has made a statement that he was always on prescription painkillers and had warned against it.
The doctor who was with him at the time has had his car impounded.
I have used the hey Joe line a few times and no-one has bitten
I figure the 1,000,000,000 other times you've probably heard that wasn't enough.
I, and Giggles [though he doesn't know it yet] and possibly F1 Wolf are planning an SE Asia [currently Manilla or similar] 2010 meet-up with Journeyer
Essentially, not much really;)
Same
Oddly enough, that's the first time for me. I usually get the "Hey Joe, what do you know" Makes me wish I had a gun
It is a weather satellite. Nothing very exciting. We have two weeks until the next shuttle launch. There was an item posted by Andy on yesterday's daily thread about a problem with the last shuttle that flew that may be grounded forever for the dumbest reason imaginable.
You too Dan
For a race? Or a smuggling operation? I have seen way to many episodes of "Locked Up Abroad". I thought you guys were talking about a NASA launch
No, just a beer and a chat
If there's any racing locally, we may consider it
[Bassano isn't joking on this occasion only]
If beer is involved, I can be counted on.
In Manilla? Cool
I've been catching up on my google news alerts but this is interesting.
I know this is an GMM story, but this makes sense. Apparently the guy who is behind the USF1 effort is Chad Hurley, one of the co-founders of YouTube, which means my chances of getting a job with USF1 are officially down the tubes.... not that I had a chance anyways.
The biggest horror though... guess who is tipped to take over for Peter Windsor as post race interviewer... that's right... Mr. James Allen... nooooooooooooooooooooo.
Am constructing a Wiki page...
Gaaaaaahhhhhhh!
I hear you guys talking about James Allen alot. Is he really that annoying? I guess I'll find out. Is there any clips on the internet of him so I can prepare myself
I was thinking in 2011, but... mmmmmm.... let's see how much I can pay off before January.
.
Great, now the whole world has to be annoyed by him.
Morning
Alison, it's actually 2315 here.
It's like a tiny woodpecker that seems irrelevant to begin with but when perched upon your head begins to annoy after about 9 months or so.
Season after season
Thank the sweet lord for BBC F1 coversge
Morning.
If I have no idea who either of these people are, does that mean I'm unlikely to be annoyed by their presence/absence??
Ahh, Alison. Welcome
Have you heard about the meet-up next year
It's.. a little far but all are welcome
Eventually, one or both get us all :(
Could be worse, could be Jonathan Legard.
"Now Jenson... if we look at the TV, it is showing the takeover more you made on Sebatian Zettel in lap 4, no wait 5.... ahhhh 45.... ahhhhh..... that was awesome."
JA did the interviews at Silverstone
He is a really good writer but live he is terrible.
Hi Alison
I thought Winsor was cool and funny. Especially when he almost ran over someone in the parking lot of the USGP
To be fair, yeah and he has looked better in the light of the new BBC announcer.
Peter Windsor used to do the interviews in the ost race press conference but he is now the team principal of USF1. James Allen was the ITV commentator until BBC took over F1 coverage
Awwwllll that right, no more Peter Windsor awkward grid walks. The moment he had with Nelson Piquet Sr. this year talking about how awful his son and Piquet the elders just caving in and saying "well... yeah....." was off the unintentional comedy scale.
Ohhhh the grey haired scruffy man??
I don't think so. I would rather have Legard. I can tune him out which I never managed with JA.
I think I was covering my face, embarassed for Piquet Sr.
It's official, sign up or be square [or some such equivalent]
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/SPC+international+Meet-Up+2010
The meeting place is not set though
At least Freeview has the Ant/Croftie option [most races]
Hah, yes. That is a bit far.
My bf is flying out to India this week though, so I'm likely to at least be on the continent at some point....
"Manilla is currently favourite"
Maybe I should add: SE Asia edition?
Done
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/SPC+International+Meet-Up+2010+[SE+Asia+Edition]
Okay, going to read about the weird goings on at Pitcairn Island and drift off to sleep. Will be on tommorrow evening during the IRL race. Out here
Then you have no excuse, shall I put you down as a maybe or do you want to add it yourself? ;)
See ya fella
Don't forget Moto GP Assen tomorrow, should be a cracker
I did type there I swear!!
I wouldn't put it as far as maybe, I'll definitely keep an eye on your plans.... You're welcome to put me on your list if it makes you happy though :)
Time I was in bed. See you all later
night Steven.
Timewasters need not apply :)
Dreamers are more than welcome [with that caveat]
G'night fella
You're still up?? Night!
Have listed you as
"current status: serious consideration, possibly"
Feel free to amend/add as required
We are quite serious about his
If Giggles is reading this then please phone me, though the afternoon is preferable
On the theory that it's the last drink that does the most damage, I've left #8 in the fridge. Ha, take that!
[Doesn't hold out much hope and takes fluids to bed to catch up on season 2 of True Blood ]
Oops
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/SPC+International+Meet-Up+2010+[SE+Asia+Edition]
Really am going now
haven't been there for ages, 6-7 years. only 1 hour away but no real reason to go. this sounds like a good reason :-)
What podcasts will be released this weekend and what time is the debrief?
Don't hold me to this, but I think the debrief is 7pm Brit Time. That said, I hear they are often late. I plan on staying up for my first one this weekend (4am start here in Oz).
Oh, and good evening to anyone out there.
Morning all.
Greetings from the Norisring. What a funny little track this is: two hairpins and a chicane, surrounding the concrete edifice from which Adolf used to rally the 'party' (the edifice in question now has a giant Nestle banner hanging from it).
Good evening Stuart.
Morning All
There are people who would suggest that the association is very apprpriate for Nestlé
Yeah?
I have to get up at 10.30 tomorrow. Before noon. On a weekend. I am so unfamiliar with this time.
You need to read the comments from about a week ago
Ah, I see, maybe later. I haven't been around much recently.
Don't do it. It could be dangerous
Ah but not doing so would see me banished from the family and unable to live with myself
You have managed to stay away from your family this long
Ahh yes, but until now none of them were trying to go and be with Michael Jackson
Sorry
It's ok, we've been prepared for a loooong time :)
I slept through all of Saturday again. Did I miss anything in the last 13 hours?
Bassano unilaterally decided that there will be a sidepod meet up in Manila and volunteered a few people including us
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/SPC+International+Meet-Up+2010+[SE+Asia+Edition]
my word. I like that there is a trick to getting everyone there.
I am sure after all the Guinness he consumed it made sense. It also helps that he works for an airline and would get there a good deal cheaper than the rest of us
Lebol in his role as chairman of FOFA is preparing an online petition to FOTA to make sure that they keep the promises they made at Silverstone about things like cheaper tickets etc.
I have never been on an international holiday that wasn't for a Grand Prix. If Manila have a race in 2010, I'm there ;)
Hmm, Manila is a lot closer to get for a meetup than England is...
Hmm...
probably not too much cheaper though...*investigates*
/Waves at Spc from -20 room
Let us know the results of your investigations.
from Melbourne to Manila is approx $500 each way according to webjet.com.au.
Can get from Melbourne to London for $1389 return.
Hmm, so not that much cheaper I guess...
Still, its closer! That'll be my excuse.
then there is always the option of KL and F1 :-)
already planning that one ;)
myself I am not sure about about malaysian gp next year. I am 99% in for the Australian one. depends on the 2010 calendar
the comments tell me i left a voicemail last night.... eek
And there is nothing you can do about it until it is played to the world
mwhahaha
hmmm im beginning to suspect i was lulled into a false sense of security!
I am sure it will work out OK. Christine said last night that she like your voicemail so I am sure everyone will when it is played.
cold?
Looks like Lukeh is still in the freezer
Yeah, im sure it will be fine, i just cant remember how good/bad it was!
anyone wanna pop up to the shop for me? I'm in my PJs but I need a bottle of milk and wouldn't say no to an icecream.
ditto for me; i need to get the papers, and some bread.
anyone?
Gimme a plane ticket to Australia and I might consider it ;)
Hmm. What $ value do I assign to getting dressed and walking 300m, and is it less than the $ of a flight. :D
:D
Order a pizza and ask them to add milk an ice cream to the order
Thats one thing i miss about Dubai, you can phone up the local shop, and they will bring anything you want to you, if you live within a short walk
The problem is that I don't own any pants that would rival my PJs for comfort, but are made of a fabric that is acceptable in public. I need to go slovenly-trackpant shopping.
I usually just wear jeans on top of pj's if im going out on a lazy late night mission, all the comfort and socialy acceptable.
You need baggy jeans though
Random thought here but does anyone here agree with me when I say that Vettel's a modern day Stefan Bellof? Of course, we don't know what he's like in a Le Mans car, but still...
I own one pair of jeans that aren't baggy, and approximately 25 skirts. None of which are long enough to cover pants.
I don't see that
Don't you have a longish coat?
Moto GP in 10 minutes
knee length. Might have to do the unthinkable.
Roll up the legs of your PJs
I do like this idea. Hmm. Back soon.
Get chocolate
I could understand this for beer, but for milk?
I didnt know DC listened to the cricket!
???
The commentator on the Stosur/Ivanovic match sounds like Ted.
Ted Tennis News.
Reoccurring problem is reoccurring. Cannot find keys, cannot leave house.
Yes but I need milk to make custard. CUSTARD
Oops, logged in as him.
Before the Moto GP...Ad for TMS showed lots of bbc people (having radio problems) apparently eagerly grabbing their ears to listen to the cricket...
Jenson also has it on Team radio too apparently...
Why don't you leave the keys in the same place all the time?
Morning Christine
Capitals were scary
Must be part of his BBC deal
Afternoon. Have been lurking, chuckling at Amy - it's like a sitcom in the comments.
It was outakes from newsnight, one show e.t.c
But i'm pretty sure he loves it...
Usually that would be enough to give it away, but as it was a comment about Ted, thought I'd better clarify :)
Its afternoon? Where did my morning go?
Hello though :D
In my old house I had a hook by the door, in this house I don't. I really need to get one. Otherwise they are in one of three places - handbag, on the table, in the pocket of what I was wearing the day before. I solved the crisis, yesterday when I got home I had a shopping bag as well as my handbag. They were in there. Attempt #2 to leave the house is go.
How did it get to be afternoon? Why am I awake this early on a Saturday?
I think Amy needs her own webcam show
You don't need to see the dancing I'm doing right now. So glad my life isn't the Truman Show.
Jamie Green's on DTM pole.
Custard on its own?
Beer is better.
OK. I will ask. Why are you dancing?
How isthe German plumbing? Oh and where is di Resta?
Does it involve a vertical metal cylindrical like item?
Beer custard?
Ooh, Stuart, are you surviving?
Hang on a minute – hasn't finished yet.
Still makes sense this morning
I never said it was feasible ;)
ooh. Its a cold evening.
Sounds great... but beer needs to be ice cold, and custard very hot1
It would ned to be like baked Alaska then
I thought I'd starved it out, but after availing myself of grub yesterday it is back with a vengeance.
Toilet facilities here not great, but the noise during DTM sessions covers a multitude of ghastliness..
I love baked Alaska!
Its like the best thing ever and i havent had it for years!
dancing helps me find keys. Currently drop.ioing a picture me the shop. Sleeping all day makes me nuts.
They are clearing the grid at Assen for the Moto GP
You poor sod. Expect sore cheeks from all the kissing and pinching!
He just popped in the fastest lap in the second bit of the session, but has been bunked down to fifth now.
According to my laminated thingum, this session finishes at the hilariously precise time of 14:22.
Like Nasa :)
Sounds like NASA scheduling
Is there a motorcycle equivelent of Le Mans?
Yep, a 24 hour bike race at le mans
I hope Bernie is watching Moto GP. They just announced that the crowd is 96,000
Katharine Legge is slowest. I think she needs a Legge up.
There are a few 24 hour races. Le Mans, Bol d'or, Suzuka etc
www.instantrimshot.com
She confuses me, she does ok in some races and 'better' in others, but she's never been great. I don't understand why she's in DTM other than that she does a cool blog on crash.net
The Bol D'Or was 24 hours too, but it finished when BCE bought Paul Ricard.
Only Bernie could kill a classic race
Ralf Schumacher is top of the time sheets at the mo. Shall I pop over and tell him to f--- off for old times' sake?
i got 2 icecreams. God i hate making decisions.
Suzuka is the next one july 27th, might have a look at that, they must be dead by the end of it....
Aaaahh,
Memories
ugh ralf. Do it.
Nice shop!
In Thailand you are not allowed to take photos in 7-11 stores they have big signs and chase you out if you try to be funny.
Ask him if he is The Stigs fat brother
You have live commenting. There is no need to make your own decisions

If only I had this a few years back. One of my ex's broke up with me because I could never decide where to go for dinner. 3 times a week we had the same argument.
Eat in?
He was paying, I'd be nuts to do that ;)
!!
Got some audio files to edit, and my colleague needs the interweb cable, so audi-os race fans...
Perhaps some sort of schedule would have helped?
Touché
Bye Stuart
The one time I made a suggestion, he said it was too far to walk. He was 25 years old and didn't have a drivers license. My dad said I should break up with him because this clearly made him weird.
Couldn't he choose
see ya!
Get the question in and enjoy!
:D
Theres no tennis on Sunday at Wimbledon is there? Some sort of great tradition that means I'll get some sleep?
Normally not. They only play on the middle Sunday if they have lost a lot of matches to weather.
Awesome. And no race either means early night + wake up for live SPC.
I thought you had family stuff eary tomorrow.
I have to get up early so I'll probably be tired and ready for sleep early too :)
Valentino Rossi wins his 100th GP and gave everyone else a lesson.
And the Finn crashed. *sighs*
best.celebration.ever
I didn't know he was Finnidh
He has had some great celebrations.
Are you watching Bernie????
Kallio?
As soon as you said the Finn crashed I realised who you meant. I have never really noticed him before
Im starting to think this is a lot better than f1.
If they can hype up the profile, it would win by a landslide
You don't scan entry lists for Finnish participants?
No. Sorry Kathi, sorry Amy
Weird.
The organisers apply a bit more sense in their decisions too. There was a race a few years ago where Rossi was sponsored by a local chicken farm. His celebration when he won involved runner chickens and a man in a chicken suit who got on the back with Rossi back to the pits. The stewards call Rossi in to let him know he had broken the rules as they are not allowed to pick up passengers. Rossi told them that there was nothing in the rules to say he couldn't pick up giant chickens so they let him off.
I promise to try harder in future.
And if it was an FIA-type event, they'd have picked up on the fact that he didn't tighten his helmet back up once he'd taken it off, but the bike people won't care.
F1 really needs the breakaway, whoever takes over form max if he goes will be a bureaucrat and make the sport even more septic i fear.
I think the breakaway is dead. They thought that they had got rid of Max and showed their cards lik a bunch of fish. Hopefully someone totally independent and sensible will get it. I really hope Ari Vatenen gets it because he is never goin to have someone penalised for doing donuts and he is Finnish.
If he's Finnish then I'll support him.
We may see Ari Vatanen vs Mohammed Ben Sulayem. That would be an interesting matchup.
WIN! :D
what did he do? i missed it. :(
Agreed.
The way the sport is going, why would anyone want to do donuts. The stands are empty; and half the time they are full they are full of people on corporate hospitality junkets, being there to be seen and not to see the racing
Unfurled a 50 metre banner with a photo of each race he has won!
Looked for it on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-CopXuYzII
Bellissima!
I thought scanning for Finns was normal behaviour. You're trying to tell me it's not?
Hewitt wife on tele!
ugh. Why can't I do what she does.
I saw her this time! For a while there, I thought she was avoiding me.
Do you mean love leyton?
I knew someone would say that :D
[Other tennis players are available]
Anyone can do nothing, you just won't have lots of money to spend at the same time.
Was just discussing this with Mr C.
My argument: You get to watch tennis all day every day, and not have an actual job.
His response: But you always have to watch the same man. It's not like you can just go and watch the women's instead.
Can't you do that, say, when your man isn't playing? He wouldn't play every day, anyway.
I would be willing to watch Fernando Verdasco every day of my life. Although he is considering growing a ponytail. If he does that, we are done professionally.
Who would watch that? Its very noisey....
but players go to each other matches to research....
You want a professional relationship?
:D
*googles*
Ohh...
Way to suck the fun out of it! Even Mr C didn't put that much thought into it.
Teehee. Oops. :D
No, Christian Bale has added that phrase to my vocab though.
But seriously, this is unacceptable
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/oh-no-nando-jpg
I got told off for saying that last week!
I have a drivers licence but no car and I can't legally drive here yet. Does that make me weird?
No, because you at least know how to drive. I think my dads opinion was formed around the fact everytime we needed to drive somewhere, I would borrow dads car and not pay him for petrol :D
It is. The racing is very good, the circuits mostly proper and the riders have more fun.
Hello all :)
Ermm, that's what we do with Mrs. Goat's Mum's car...
Wow, just looking at RCC's pics from Silverstone. They're awesome!
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=101736&id=702091352
Heheh I'm sure you'll be fiiiiiine.
My parents just got given grandads car since he has stopped driving, and dad aplogised to me for not putting my name on the insurance. I'm sure I'll survive considering they have two other cars there, and I will only drive in NZ for about a week per year.
Just spotted this on the Wimbledon live blog:
1410: Just ventured out of the Commentary Box for the first time since 10am, and I find a woman is being treated by St John's Ambulance for heat-exhaustion in the toilets. We Brits are just not designed for these temperatures. The rest of the world looks on and laughs.
Whats the temperature there today?
We're not a how country but we're not exactly a cold country either. We're sort of an...inbetweeney country.
*hot
BBC weather says 28C. Tis quite humid too, I reckon. Rain expected.
Denmark is a bicycle country so it's expense we can do without. The odd time we do need a car we can easily borrow one. Tonight we are both going to a party in Copenhagen (150km away) and can take a train there and back...
28C is the average temp over here. I guess that means we're a hot country, then?
That's quite hot and with the humidty can make it difficult to breathe...
Ahh its the humidty that kills. I heart Melbourne because its not ever humid so even 40+ days are bearable, whereas in Auckland 25 makes you want to die because when its 100% humidity.
I have survived in Melbourne without a car for more than a year, people seem shocked when I tell them that, but I'm one suburb away from the CBD and everywhere I need to go has trams and trains. I haven't needed a car yet, and if I do in the future, well, I can't legally drive here anyway :D
Good point there - it's the humidity that makes it hard to breathe.
Jankovic is out of Wimbledon. And beaten by a qualifier - shock.
I'm useless in heat as well though. Anything over 20°C and I start to flag. So much better in the cold.
It's about 28°C outside I think. Aircon is struggling to keep the temperature down to 18°C
I think she was struggling in the temperatures too, wasn't she?
Looks like it - seemed to be hit by fatigue. But as the commentators were saying, it's been a bad year for her so far in general.
It really, really has. When you look at all the women who have been #1 in the last few years, they are all pretty lacklustre. The womens game has been bad for a while. Bring back Justine Henin!
When your #1 hasn't even won a major and has choked in every single finals she's played, you know there's something wrong.
Ivanovic and Jankovic aren't much better. I know Ivanovic has won a slam, but shes looked pretty ordinary in all of them since then.
I am much better when it gets hot. A bit of a disadvantage when you live in Scotland
Early night for me - I feel a migraine coming on.
Night, everyone.
James Allen gets a plug: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/2009-06-27-15-29-52
We never got our website plugged for page 22.
Night Journeyer
Outrageous
Wimbledon twitpic how hot it is: http://twitpic.com/8kgif
he looks so smug.
Apparently the Met Office has ut out a heatwave warning for Monday and Tuesday
Am just uploading my Silverstone pics to Facebook. Should be up there i about 5-10 mins :)
YAY HAAS. I like him.
well...technically....
it had a source by the side of it, but a proper url would have been prefered
It's now dawning on me why MWM podcast are 2 hours long....
It would take a week to edit
Radio Le mans need a Christine
What is up with people and spoiling the fun today?
those "Aus Fanatics" are definitely spoiling the fun on court 2. If I was there I'd punch them in the face.
Pics are now uploading. Talk amongst yourselves as usual, this may take a while...
Ralf Schumacher 7th in qualifying for DTM at Norisring? Surely not!
hehehehehe.
it's just one of those days. its raining here, booo
Does DTM now have a 4-part qualifying system compared to F1's 3?
I thought it was a free for all for the positions up to 11, then the top 10 each do a lap, but i'm likely to be wrong
It turns out i am. I think it has a 3 part quali
If it's only 3 parts, then why is Q4 mentioned?
not a clue, but i just read "in the first of the three sessions"
you're right though, autosport says Q4. how odd
From Autosport:
Q4 was the QE2
Well there's 20 cars on the grid so maybe it goes:
Q1: P20 - P16
Q2: P15 - P11
Q3: P10 - P6
Q4: P5 - P1
So it looks like Q1-Q3 are for up to 5th place, and then Q4 is a single lap shoutout for pole
with Q4 being each car doing a single lap.
"After a long delay while the situation was cleared up, that left Scheider and Ekstrom battling the Mercedes of Bruno Spengler and Gary Paffett for pole, with the C-class drivers going first in the one lap showdown."
sorted!
Interesting. With less cars in the final session, it must make it more exciting. I likes it! :D
its exactly the same as F1 quali (good) just with less cars going through in Q3 and i used to love single lap quali, so Q4 is good too
Best of both formats really. Bonus.
I am going to be really brave and venture outside. I may be some time.
Good luck. Don't be afraid to leave a trail of breadcrumbs so you can find your way back.
Not again...
Good plan. That sounds like it can't fail.
It's windy, you may want to find something heavier...
Crikey, it's bucketing it down here!
The real question is, would you fit in my oven?
:D

Nelson Piquet busy taking pictures during the parade lap :-)
Hehe. It's funny that everyone is waving 'cept him.
he was too busy sharing drivers parade love with those of us back home.
http://twitpic.com/7zyd1
He fails since theres no Heikki in it.
working on the last batch of my Silverstone photos, found this one I had no idea I managed to take:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/heikki-kovalainen-burst-tyre-jpg
he obviously cares about his fans :-)
not gonna lie, the twitter kind of makes me like him :D
(sorry Amy)
:(
You have the occasional hot day.
Last was was 1976 wasn't it?
In Apple store about to make iPhone purchase
Ooooh!
and now it's quiet
Well I'm excited about it.
afternoon all. i've just come home from school. school is no fun on a saturday, even if it is for a peer mentoring course thing.
School is no fun any day, is it?
Will wipe my login details from this and go find a guru :)
Woohoo. Expect live commenting from the iPhone asap.
Ta, christine
depends if i have either psychology, textiles, or tech to do. if i do then it's great :)
I see. What do you have planned for the rest of your day?
So fellas, if I set up this petition regarding ticket prices in F1 will you sign it or not? I don't want to end up with 4 votes from my me (meaning the BOL and not sidepodcast Me) Dog, Wombat and Baby. I'd like to aim at 1 million signatures, otherwise I can't be bothered.
Lemme know, please.
well i have an hour and a bit of doing a bit of homework and relaxing before i go out to a friends who is having a bbq/ party. unfortunately it's now raining, but i'm sure it will be great whatever :)
what about you Christine? had a good day?
Ooh, I haven't been to a BBQ for aaaages.
Oh yes. Me and Mr C have sorta taken a day off Sidepodcast. *coughs* I'm not commenting really.
Have been watching the tennis, and blogging a lot, and generally just resting up. It's lurverly.
me niether, i'm kinda excited, i've no idea what i'm going to wear though, cause it's still boiling :(
ahh sounds very nice and relaxing :)
Oh noes!!!
No Black 32gig till Monday
Must contact Bluewater centre
Gah!
:(
I wouldn't, because I don't sign internet petitions ever.
Said this store was empty on launch day
Everyone was at O2 and CPW :(
None in Bluewater or Regent St
Brent Cross is my last option
Everyone keep their fingers crossed.
:)
On hold, crossing everything
I may even have to give my money to Carphone warehouse
Uh oh.
maybe i should try an o2 store
Luckily I'm in a store with free internet usage and laptops ;)
I finally found out how much an iPhone costs outright. Suffice to say, I will never buy one. Ever.
I have found out more about the deal with my kidney.
If I give it to Mr C to sell for an iPhone, I get to have his iPod touch. This is a better deal than I initially thought.
You don't like phone contracts?
Until you wake up in a bathtub full of ice with no memory of the previous 24 hours...
None of them here suit me because they all have unlimited calls + texts to Australian mobiles, and 90% of my calls and texts go to New Zealand.
The iPhone has Skype!
So does my computer. And my PSP.
Can your PSP call NZ?
but you said, i think on your blog that you don't want an ipod touch?
goooood evening you lovely people.
evening
I don't know, I've never tried. But having Skype on an iPhone on a contract would still be a stupidly expensive way of doing it because it'd still cost me minimum of $2400. Cheaper to buy outright.
I don't. But at least I get something in return for my kidney, instead of him just stealing it.
It seems as though it might rain at Wimbledon soon. *chants* Roof, roof, roof.
I think the world outside of Cupertino is out of stock
Am forced to go home and mope before I end up buying a MacBook Pro to cheer myself up
Hey Everyone
Let RAndy finish his game first. What could be a better story than the British Peoples Champion MAndy getting to be the first to try the roof.
i see :) that's alright then.
Aw. I am disappointed along with you.
Christine has tomorrows defrief time been confirmed yet??
And now for something completely different.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/8-jpg
I should stop ringing stores I think
I don't wish to be told "we sold out at 4 o'clock"
One thousand green bottles, sitting on a wall... :P
Thats impressive! Whats it for?
Nice!!
wow! is that for your boat?
I'm building a boat :)
I find tennis players who have tanlines in the middle of their forehead hilarious. Thats what you get for wearing a cap wrong.
Kudos to you sir, thats a lot of effort there
Deserves to be ridiculed
ahaha i wonder if kimi has a tan line on his forehead....
As soon as I see someone doing it I hope they lose in straight sets.
Kimi probably has a permanent shadow with that flipping cap! :P
Am going home, will try ONE carphone store on the way [cos I'm a glutton for punishment]
Glad I have Rage Against The Machine in the car. I'll will be playing it extremely loud as I mooch home
Must put SPC on home page on as many MacBooks as I can before I go ;)
Can anyone confirm the time of tomorrows defrief live show!!!!!
How long before your passenger's say
"We're gonna need a bigger boat"? :D
Hehehe, awesome.
6pm most likely. Now breeeeeath. Chill.
One exclamation mark will do.
Chill baby
There are no guarantees with live shows
Maybe 6, maybe not. Check tomorrow
not sure, sorry. i'm sure if you stop by tomorrow mr and mrs c willl have a better idea :)
sorry I don't like being ignored
Especially when it's a question.
We don't like answering the same question over and over again.
Ha, grammar rules!
I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow show a lot. Not that I'm not looking forward to every show of course...
Ever thought no one had the answer or was sick of being asked?
Not that I'm not? I dont even know if that makes sense. Double negative am hurt head lot :(
Uh oh, pressure's on ;)
Someone switch the light on near the naughty step ;)
I'm too tetchy to comment
Catchya later peeps
Nooooooo no pressure. Every debrief is 70% awesome, 40% excellent, 20% win and 10% aluminium.
I should add onto that, Sidepodcast is so good it breaks the world in terms of 100% being considered complete.
Laters Potata's
maybe when/ if the factbyte factbox is encourperated into the doohickey, or even when it's used in the live commenting page, it could be used to have the estimated time of shows that weekend?
see ya :)
It may, it may not.
We generally want to discourage the constant desire to know when/what/how. We are very much go with the flow, as you might have noticed :)
Sidepodtrains
Expected time of arrival (Sidepodtime): between today and tomorrow
Tim Henman sounds JUST like Christian Horner. Seriously. Have you ever seen them in a room at the same time?
ah yeah of course :)
ahah that's very true. sounds very like what people say about Jenson and Chris Martin.
time for me to go get ready for the bbq, speak to you all later! x
see ya! enjoy yourself :D
haaaave fun
Evening all. Hope your days have been better than mine....
Whyyyy?
theres a lot of empty seats at centre court.
Just a pants day at work! I had a fight with my boss and he made me cry because he's mean like that....
Got another long day to come tomorrow and I'm just dreading going in! Roll on Monday!!
I'm rather tired and this week has felt very, very long. Like 1 minute feeling like 2. I'm off for a nap - if I'm not around later then I shall see you guys on Sunday. :)
I was thinking that! Who queue's in the street for days to get tickets then doesn't watch the match?
all the corporate people who get free tickets probably. That's what happens down here, it's all the reserved seats that sit empty.
I was going to say why on earth is Justin Timberlake there, but he was probably watching Andy Roddick.
You'd think they'd let people in off the hill.... Make someone's day. I mean someone might as well sit in them!
I guess there is always the fear they'll turn up later. When I went to the semi here this year everyone bothered to show up for the last set, probably just so they could say "oh yes, I watched that Federer fellow win"
I reckon if you're not there as the match starts, you've missed your chance.... Could let you back in for the next one. I guess they won't do that though because as you said, it's the important folks who've got the seats...
The thing that I found amazing was my match had 'start of play: 7.30' on the tickets, and at 7.25 they still hadn't let us in. There was 15,000 people milling outside in a space that really wasn't big enough for everyone. Terrible organisation.
More than likely. Often used them to for my own advantage. I regularly get free tickets to the Albert Hall from the other half.
As she's a PA to one of the directors any corporate tickets that are not going to be used get passed onto her for advertising around all the other PA and so on. As such, we get first pick. :D
Seen Eric Clapton, Jewel, Van Morrison, Soloman Burke, Billy Connolly, several nights at The Proms, Crowded House, Cirque du Soleil amongst many others.
You'd think that the firms could send someone or anything!! Even if it's the cleaner.... i just think it's horrific that I can't get tickets to go when I like tennis but some suit can get as many as he wants and can't even be bothered goin!
It's rare the tickets go unwanted - I'll go see almost anything - if I won't take them, then someone else will.
At sports a lot of the time the corporates prefer to sit in their little air conditioned suites with the free food and drink and watch the game on the TV screens.
I'm not so much of a fan of Hindhaugh anymore, he dosen't like Jake (BBC F1) because of what he wears and he thinks EJ is the best thing on there....hmmm
poor Troicki, he looks broken :(
Woo and indeed, flippin' hoo!
I got the last Blask 32GB iPhone at the Carphone Warehouse on the way home!
Never underestimate the power of Rage Against The Machine ;)
hooray! but Boo at the Apple Store!
*black*
[cos blask isn't a colour]
If you want White or 16GB then they're good
Seems Black 32 is very popular
I don't think I know anyone with a white iPhone, or a white iPod unless they got it before other colours existed. Apple should just stop making them.
At the original store the assistant was asking if I wanted White
But's it's White, was all I could say. She didn't say it but her eyes said "Yeah, I know"
I'm kind of hoping that The Amazing Roof That Will Save Tennis doesn't get used and we have to wait a whole extra year to see it. All the hype for nothing.
I could get my TV in white if I wanted. I declined. I can buy other colour faceplates for $500 each. I don't know if anyone in the world would be willing to spend that to make their TV not TV coloured.
Ah! Roof! That's cheating, the matches are finished
Oh they're moving a match there? THATS ROOF CHEATING.
I paid about £100 more than a similar model for a silver/grey washing machine cos it matched the fridge and oven, my girlfriend at the time thought I was mad
Matching I can understand, it bothered me when the trend for silver electronics started and I had to buy a new stereo that didn't match any of my other stuff.
Where is everybody, watching tennis?
I'm still here!
Hey Lukeh
I agree with her, you're mad ;-)
I would have never paid the 15% more that it cost the silver fridge instead of the white I bought...
In the process of doing a full 24hr race at Le Mans.
Currently into my 4th 2hr stint - lying in 5th place due to a little off and mangling the rear bodywork a bit and getting a puncture.
Catching up on the Audi in 4th though.
It wasn't the same model but specs were not far off
Kitchen would've have looked a lot worse which will be important when I sell
Saving more than the initial outlay
Although I'm strangely spending my time going through that homeless show with the celebrities on BBC1 last week on the iPlayer trying to find a certain instrumental in the background...
Ooh I found it! yay :)
OK, in my case they were! In any case, all my appliances are white, so I'm actually following the same path... :-)
At Dad's on babysitting duty. Have just caught up on comments for last night / this morning, v.funny!
"now is the right time to plant if you want ripe strawberries for Christmas"
not going to lie, Christine's strawberries are really, really, really making me want to try my hand at gardening.
Perfectly normal.
christine's blog has got me in such a Dr Who mood now :D
I knew that, she just thought I was being too obsessive :)
That's quite typical for the witching hour at this place
We should never hook up, I am so bad at decision-making.
With the procrastinating as well I'd say you're the female version of me, but I really don't like tennis.
This would be a good time to catch up on blogs and start emptying that big queue in the feed reader, good idea.
Glastonbury on the telly, although it is only Kasabian. Half the time I swear I only watch because it is Glasto and I feel I'm meant to.
So the tennis players are complaining about the light but it looks fine to me. TV must make things more daylighty. The things you learn.
I can't watch Glasto this year. I saw the list of bands and even Spinal Tap and Bruce Springsteen couldn't convince me.
I'm trying to find out what's wrong with my feedreeder.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/feedreaderfail-png
Hi again, it's taken a few attempts but I've finally got the first of my Silverstone pics up! :D
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=87896&id=550913576
I'm Ironing....shirts have gone ok...trousers....not so much...
Today i've cleaned, washed and now i'm ironing...i feel old :(
Oh dear
Apparently, Jimmy Choo Wellies are now available. There's a waiting list too
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8115497.stm
Whats the point?! They're going to be brown by the end of the weekend
The cameras are able to compensate for the lack of light a lot better than the human eye can.
nice! lucky you...
They also make you look thiner :-)
nice! lucky you....
I'm watching a lot less than usual. Blur tomorrow, since (name drop again) I'm seeing 'em Thursday I'm not sure if watching tomorrow will get me pumped up or ruin it.
btw ta to Steven for the blog shoutout yesterday, I did wonder if anyone used the previews :-)
I did cleaning on Weds, washing today, ironing planned tomorrow.
The trick is to have something interesting going on at the same time. I usually listen to podcasts or catch up on iPlayer stuff.
This has to be my favourite pic I took throughout the whole weekend:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00417-jpg
In the support races paddock were we?
Yup, after the BMW shindig. I don't think we actually were meant to be there, but that was the only way out by going through there. No-one said we weren't supposed to be there anyways ;)
Also, it took a while but I finally got one! :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-101
wow some of those pics are extremely close up. I stood there on a test day, I have no idea how you got those cars in shot :-)
That's the best I could do with only a 3x zoom and some very tricky timing. :P
I'm still constantly uploading more pics so keep your eyes peeled for more :)
I might try and pick up a reasonably priced digital camera with a decent pixel quality and zoom for the WSR next weekend. Will require some hunting, me thinks.
Wow, it's one of those dead moments again... *echoes*
Sorry sir, writing up a blog enntry :D
No need to apologise! :)
hmm, my Doohickey didn't update for 20 minutes.
Just finished up F1M: http://www.f1minute.com/2009/06/27/27-jun-09-ferrari-suggest-attention-will-turn-to-2010/
I wasn't complaining! I would have empty track every time.
Watching Heikki on youtube. Might be a while. Should be sleeping really, alarm goes off in 4 hours.
No no, I wasn't suggesting you were! Just saying in general :)
To be honest, most of them were! I deleted the ones that were just that - blank track.
Is it in the itunes feed
Have a look
not in mine
Blimey man, have some patience! My guess would be no, not yet!
Bassano, did I see you got the iPhone??
Yep, your good luck thoughts worked! [Thanks]
Got the last one in a CPW store and was the last customer of the day!
Big Woo hoo!
Phew. I can uncross my fingers.
So tell us Bassano - your initial thoughts on the 3GS :P
Both Realtime and myself are not getting along well with Dad's IE8. He'll be annoyed if I install something else though...
Am setting it up at the mo and not sure if my tariff has switched over to 'free data' plan yet. Just accessing the O2 account online to check
But the hardware is sexy as eff!
Put portable Firefox on a memory stick if you have one on you
Which contract did you go with? The 24 month one that gives you the handset for free?
You can
Christine's good luck wishes ROCK! :D
I made it back safely. You can go to bed and stop worrying now
No £35 per month on 24m
So paid a [not so] small chunk for the hardware
The £35/18 month one is the best value though.
iPhone tariff is indeed GO
Time to start playing :D
You could've used it on Wireless while waiting.
The unlimited data and wifi is to all intents and purposes totally and utterly epic :D
Don't have wireless at home and had to get from CPW
4 Apple stores were out till Monday and I didn't want White
32GB handset was another £100 upfront, plus I'll have it until the refresh in 2011 around this time probably
Yet
Airport Extreme base station is next
Hopefully before German GP
Well don't complain when a new phone gets released before then. ;)
:D
Is why I went for 32GB cos I knew I'd have it for 2 years
I anyone else minorly annoyed that things they wanted to watch on the television have been cancelled and replaced with second rate Michael Jackson documentaries?
No. I'd be majorly annoyed.
Don't forget to buy Applecare then.
The only scheduled programs I watch at the moment are Top Gear and Grand Prix races
Agreed, i have many annoyances, but they shall have to be confound to a blog post
I'll likely do that in a few months
:D
More or less the same here. Plus a bit of kids TV, can't beat a bit of Roary.
Excellent.
Getting in with the management I see, it'll get you nowhere in the next panel you know ;)
I am sure everyone will sign. Someone needs to hold FOTA to their promises and you are just the man for the job. I am sure we will all back you up.
Only a little but I'd planned to watch Glaso anyway. I enjoyed one of those docos on C4 last night although it basically was just videos with a small amount of text as each one started.
What were you going to watch?
I'll sign for sure. I'm always for anything cheaper regarding motorsport :D
I don't even remember, it's been one of those days. I've made a note I wanted to watch something now though and I've turned over and I'm pretty sure I didn't earmark a MJ documentary....
Have to go back to my film with annoyingly stereotypical Islamic terrorists!
Phew, I only meant to do a short blog entry and I ended up writing loads about how much I love Dr Who...
Although you guys should read Christine's blog about the show too which you can find linked in mine, I'd feel terrible plugging mine without talking about hers which inspired me to write mine (in a giant circle there...)
Just saw a guy called Alan Cochrane on Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow - so funny!
w00t for mobile realtime
I forgot that was on!
Save it as a bookmark onto your home menu - it's comes up like a "Sidepodapp" with the little logo and everything :D
Already bookmarked to the home screen :)
Yay. I read shortly.
Good man! :D
doesn't do quoting though. Guess it's less resource hungry than doohickey
sidepodspace update
Tonight's launch looks like it may actually happen. The weather is good now but they are watching a storm near Tampa. The launch window opens in 45 minutes and lasts for one hour exactly. (Not one hour and one minute)
Pic found on the Last.fm blog - graph of scrobbles per king of pop.
I like Blink best as well.
Playing with (free) app f1 go go go
seems ok, will try during race weekend
the mobile version doesn't do javascript, mostly because older mobile browsers either.
isn't proper doohickey better on the iphone though?
question...does mobile doohickey work on less good pc browsers e.g you need IE7 or 8 for doohickey, but will mobile doohickey work with IE5/6?
That gets a hells yeah from me :D
yup. i think it'll work right back to netscape navigator. haven't tried though.
just passing on the twitter love to y'alls:
"sidepodpanel on sidepodcast .... best podcast on itunes imo!"
aww yay!
sidepodspace
Weather is red. Expected to be green at 23:30. No launch before then
Huzzah!
Just catching up with our resident bloggers in my feed reader - we've got some very good writers here :-)
Intelligent people on twitter. Who knew. Must follow her
And not all of them have a blog either.
Most of the resident bloggers do I reckon.
heheh :-)
and the people who don't, should..
That was a reply to the "We've got some very good writers here" bit. Lazy quoting.
I think Christine has some power over NASA. Ever since she complained about them going a day early every launch and landing has been delayed and usually more than once.
I'm horrified by how much junk they seem to be sending up there.... What a waste of time!! It's like twice a week you're talking about launching things.
Yes but they only actually launch every few months. Because the government is writing the cheques they planned a launch tonight with only a 40% chance of good weather
You're not selling this to me..... :D
One day the planet is going to get splattered. If we don't have a way of getting off the rock we are all going to get splattered too.
You're wrong. Bruce will save us all.
It's fine, Bruce Willis is gonna sort it out....
He is on at Glastonbury now
I think you're both talking about a different Bruce ;)
I thought you meant Springsteen. What happens if we don't get splattered for another 30 years
He'll pass the baton to Ben, obviously.
This rocket they are supposed to be launching looks like a toy. Rockets are meant to be huge and make the whole world shake
Eurgh wurgh eurgh. So the fate of mankind rests in the hands of Mr Smarm. You're right, we're doomed....
Ben Fogle?
He got the job done, doesn't matter if he's an idiot.
Can't we just launch Bernie and Max at whatever is coming our way. Should probably send Luca and Flav too just to be safe.
Sounds like the start to a very bad joke....
Launch has now been moved to 23:51. The launch window closes at 00:14. Who built a space centre in an area that has weather that kills most launch attempts?
I know Florida has less gravity but there must be somewhere with the right gravity and better weather
What we need is starships with tractor beams. Or startractors. Then we can tow the thing that is going to splatter us, out of the way.
Did you just say Florida has less gravity?!?!
The Dr has it covered, he'll just throw a big ol' noose round the rock and get the Tardis to put it away
What we need first is a way of identifying rocks that may splatter the planet early enough that we can do something about it. Right now we could have 99 starship Enterpises and we would still be screwed. The last huge asteroid that passed between us and the moon was identified two days before it arrived.
it is, was trying a few things. Assessing my options. Think I will need to bring my charger everywhere for the next few days :)
Yep. The nearer the equator the less gravity. So all weight watchers need to do is move to the tropics and they automatically weigh less
We only have one Tardis and that is tied up with the RSPCRF1 project
That's not quite accurate, the gravity is about the same, you're just moving faster.
There is less effective gravity. That is why Europe launches all ESA missions from central America.
surely the earth moves at the same speed wherever you are? it being a sphere and all
we must be able to get dispensation from jordan to save the world?
is that a centrifugal thing and how much of a difference does it actually make? I would have thought close to nothing
You have to think of the Earth as a series of slices. At the pole the diameter of th slice is zero. At the equator it is 8000 miles ish. So the linear speed of anything at the equator is just over 1000miles an hour due to planetary rotation so you have a centrifugal effect.
Think about it though. It's spinning around its axis. Imagine standing at one of the poles, even though the earth is spinning, you're not displaced at all.
At the centre, you're displaced the most and to complete the circle in the same time as the rest you have to cover more distance in the same time. Isn't that by definition what speed is.
Will we be able to cryogenically freeze people before the splattering occurs? Just thinking we could save Bruce for the opportune moment.
The Tardis is Alianora's department although the last I heard Jordan borrowed it and lost it
It is minimal but the external tank of the shuttle contains half a million US gallons of fuel so any saving is worth having.
Space radar for rocks
yeah true, i forgot about the whole poles thing, mainly because even though the earth spins on its axis, the whole thing also revolves.
On the ground it makes practically no difference, but the mechanical advantage to rocket launches is enormous.
The tequIla chamer is the best drink ever! That is all...
If the planet is dependent on it chuck him in the freezer now. If he dies we are screwed anyway
The Earth isn't a sphere, it's A bit squashed, can't remember the term
Oh dear!
I think there's a probe going around at the moment proving just that? I remember it because it has a nifty engine to keep it running at a constant speed to get the right results..
Remember what happened last night? With the whole voice mail thing? Remember? No of course you don't you had to be reminded this morning ;)
The trouble is no-one is prepared to fund serious research. Governments are spending a fortune on global warming research but nothing on global splattering.
awww, man. i missed some comments.
What is the difference between that and a tequila slammer? No slamming I suppose
Oblate spheroid
The difference i'm guessing is that when you've had a slammer you spell it chamer ;)
There probably is. Sounds like one of the ion drive spacecraft
tequIla makes me hurl - evil, evil stuff
BTW: Am sick of Bruce at Glast, dinosaur he is, hmm
You were there when he was eventually convinced to leave a voicemail tremayning about voicemails. Apparently when sobriety hit this morning and comments were read it came as something of a surprise to him that he had left the voicemail
I've just looked it up and gravity at the poles is slightly more than at the equator, but there's very little in it.
The countdown has restarted. T-4 minutes. They are going to launch
You can't go bringing facts into it. That is against the rules
1 from the top please Carol
i didn't know he was drunk?
neither did i, i only realised this morning
drunk tremayning. excellent.
Neither did he. No-one had any idea as far as I am aware. Had I known he was in a suggestible state we could have had a lot more fun
were there many sober people around last night?
T-1 minute. How low can they go in the count before they pull the plug?
Hello, it's almost midnight and I'm still awake hehe
Yeah I think so. It was just at the edge of the atmosphere, enough that it would slow it down. Read about it on the BBC News site a while back.
he'll be home soon...
i knew, he mentioned drinking, I'm sure
Who said anything about rules? I'm only trying to help. I think it's the day spent at the Open University, I'm in a scientific frame of mind.
FIREFOX CRASHED AND I MISSED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
I've got Franz Ferdinand on BBC3. Not a huge fan of them but they are doing a solid job
How did that happen?
they wind me up even more, at least Bruce is just bland
*blush* .. had an afternoon 40 winks
missed what?
At least he wasn't so drunk that he suggested we all go to Manila for a day out
rocket launch :(
Hey jackie
Hi Bassano :D
They showed it with the shuttle in shot. It was even smallr than it looked on its own. Once the boosters separated they showed it from behind and instead of looking like a rocket burning it looked like a torch with dodgey batteries.
Who apart from Christone is good at lyrics?
Do Nasa have an iPlayer? ;)
You can't say that
Seems to me most of the line-up this year is bland.
:D
sorry Christine :) typing with the light off isn't a good idea
It'll replay it in a bit, but still. thats so frustrating!!
hehe.
yeah, that'd be silly
you need at least 5 days in Manilla
I switched it on now. well my excuse is that it gradually got dark and I didn't notice
Try us
where's Manilla?
You can sometimes find video on the NASA TV section of the site
okay :D
Wanted to do a song about the FOA FOTA and Bernie for a voicemail for a show
Philipines. There isn't even a race there
phillipines, to visit journeyer
The song I want to use is lets face the music and dance
What you got so far?
aahhh rigghhhtt
i'm pretty sure I just did
There is more trouble ahead
but while there's Fota
the FIA and Bernie Ecc
*need a line here*
Before the racing begins
Before the fans pay their money
to see their teams win
*need a line here*
Soon
there could be no F1
were watching some crap teams run
and then
There could be teardrops to shed
But while there's meetings, concessions
And talks planned ahead
Let's solve this crisis and race
race
Let's solve the crisis and race
Interesting
JACKIE THATS AMAZING
SOme interesting stuff here about the history of the iPhone:
http://www.open2.net/blogs/scitechnature/index.php/2008/01/23/why_the_iphone_makes_2008_seem_like_1968
Best bit:
"A triumph of 1960s technology, the Apollo Flight Computer was one of the first computers to use microchips, it weighed almost thirty kilograms and had the same processing power as a modern musical greetings card."
Don't flush it down the dunney. (I think Dunney is Oz for toilet...)
i really need to stop making drunk travel plans. Usually turns out well though
LOL well if I ever get it finished and sing it, it might be fun
hehe
not very micro then? :)
The computers were a joke. On the Apollo 11 lunar module the computer kept tripping. They were doing manual resets all the way down
30kg. Not much power. That sounds like KERS to me. :)
I need a sidepodsnack
:D
I need sidepodsleep
At remembering them? Try us..
OK guys, you wanted it and here it is - blog post about my weekend:
http://zerodownforce.blogspot.com/2009/06/so-nick-about-your-beard.html
Oops that was a bit late.
Was this the inspiration for Windowa?
I found different varieties of cheese in dad's fridge, so I made a sandwich with a different cheese in each quarter
Please note this part of the post:
;) :D
I think the NASA blue screen of death was a bit more literal
me too. Pot noodle would be ace but have not bought for years. Maybe some chicken super noodles.
[checks cupboard]
Is that like a raw Quattro Formaggio (well not quite raw, but you know what I mean)?
"hey man, that's like, the moon or something, no waaay, whoa"
I have no idea what you mean. I got two slices of bread and put small piles of cheese in it.
That's a pizza
:) :)
cheese and tomato sandwich for me :D
means "4 cheeses" and is a pizza variety as Steven pointed out
The cheese that knows exactly how grip is needed and regulates the power to all four corners to ensure a safe yet speedy corner entry/exit.
I was talking about the pizza with 4 different types of cheese.
that's brilliant :-)
I've just read that's because they left the radar switched on and it was sending data to the computer as well as the rest of the instruments and caused an overflow. Not the computer's fault at all.
Ah. In common parts that's a "four cheese pizza".
It was JFK's fault for setting a ridiculous deadline. They were nowhere near equipped to go to the moon with any degree of certainty of hitting the moon let alone getting back
Stop blaming other people. We all know it was your fault. ;)
I've only just arrived, but I'm off to catch some zeds. 'Night all. Seeya tomorrow for the show.
Night Ollie, thanks for the help :D
Night Ollie.
Meant to ask has your face recovered from Monaco
It may be worth putting your lyrics on a wiki page so that folk consider additions at their leisure Jackie
I disagree, they had a pretty good chance of hitting the moon. The speed of impact was less certain.
Dunno, can't see it. I've grown a Heidfeld beard. :)
(I'm slowly healing.)
That should really go on the comments of the year Wiki
I'll think about it Steven thanks .. I had wanted to do it for tomorrow while they are still embattled
I was thinking people could look tonight or in the morning. The worst that can happen is that you get no suggestions
That's true :)
Mmmmmm! Wine gums....
mmm chocolate peanuts .. I've gone snackmental
I had a bag yesterday, the light ones with half the sugar and 30% less calories. Who says Wine Gums can't be healthy :D
That reminds me I have chocolate raisins
Ah see for me chocolate peanuts crosses the sweet/savoury divide....
Can we give this man a ping? Love chocolate raisins! :D
What about Fruit and Nut?
I agree, chocolate raisins are better but I picked up the wrong bag
I make my own Cajun Cahews, they're yum
[I don't grow em, just.. you know ]
Hmmm I'd probably still have an issue!
*cashews*
I love that advert on the tv about adverts .. the one with the fruit and nut song and whoah bodyform
"Accrington Stanley!" :D
EXACTLY!
That's the one
who are they?
:D !!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNQi0CIgncc
I love that advert!
I've just realised you have all been discussing it for ages. Whoops.
*jumps back into lurkland*
Won't be live commenting it a la Giggles but am off to prepare the super noodles sipedodsnack
Pity :D
You could make a video with your new iPhone and post it on Drop.io
I just got home,,, still in love with the tquila chamer!
I could
But I won't
Giggles can be the kitchen live commeting king, he's better at it
can the old one do video?
No :(
You should phone in a voicemail telling us what is so great about them
:D
[Goes to boil kettle, really]
oh god no!
although the chamer.... 1 shot tequila, 1 shot champagne.... slam on bar Is brilliant, have i missed out on any f1 news?
Will take that as a maybe
That is a weird combination. The only thing that I have ever mixed with champagne is brandy and that is really nice. Although mixing equalvolumes wouldn't work
trust me, i ordered it by accident....it is amazing!
I read earlier that campos may have virgin as their main, named sponsor. Don't know if it was GMM, sorry if so
The story broke a couple of days ago but it was Manor not Campos
You accidentally asked someone to put tequila nad champagne in the same glass??
ok, ta
sort of... i wanted a slammer, but what arrived was genius!
what's a slammer mixed with then?
Looks like most people are going to bed then :(
tequila + salt + lime
am tucking into the aforementioned noodles but still here
More tequila
after 2 weeks of being in bed by 10 I'm wide awake tonight
seems I had a few charmers years ago then
I could never get to sleep at 10pm. I can barely get to sleep at 2 am
It was just tiredness adapting to the new job methinks
Is the job going well
They seem like a nice bunch. It's entirely different to what I did before but I guess I will adapt.
cognitive fatigue is a bummer, makes you sleep well though
I have moved about a lot with work and it never takes long to settle into a new place. So long as you have a basic grasp on what you are meant to be doing all the other stuff follows
I hope so :D
Morning, everyone.
Singapore's list of entertainers is very interesting, indeed - and not just because of BSB:
http://www.crash.net/f1/news/149047/1/travis_added_to_singapore_f1_bill.html
Hey Journeyer
Hello. Anything I missed last night?
Wow, guy at Glastonbury is doing beatbox while playing the flute!
Hey Journeyer
Hey Journeyer. Are you any good at writing lyrics?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Song+lyrics
My opinion of mixing Tequila, Whiskey, Scotch or Bourbon is a crime. For me either straight or on the rocks, besides champagne is bad grapes grown in bad soil. Now I'm off to fetch another beer.
hehe
I just saw that too - possibly the most talented thing I've seen in ages!
Erm, let's see if I can contribute to this...
noooo that was a slammer!
will have to look on YouTube for some more of that tomorrow. Did they call it Flutebox?
Listened to the tune - this will be a bit tough to squeeze some words in. Lemme have a think.
that's the problem I've been having too
How about:
"We know that Bernie's senile
but all the while it seems he is in constant denial.
At least he's saner than Max"
excellent .. need to try that in my head
Ain't no point being subtle
i distinctly remember tequila & champagne cos I like neither. Foolish teenage years ;)
Works for me :D
Here's my suggestion:
...and Bernie Ecc
As us fans stuck in between
tremayne!
I just realised how great tyops are. If you want to rant but are not sure of your opinion is it a Tremaybe??
*AND us fans stuck in between
Or: "It's all a pain in the neck"
Problem is that line'll make me laugh whilst I'm singing :D
:D
ha ha, perfect!
I'm not sure, wasn't listening to the wittering on either side :-)
could you tremayne on my behalf... i am being told to go to bed... night all!
Dictionary :D
Laughter covers a multitude of sins
Tremayne about having to go to bed.
G'night Nick
good night Nick
Night, Nick!
Was about to say I'm off too but I'll probably keep commenting until tired. Lovin' mobile SPC
Think we need a new stage of Sidepodaddiction...
It's in
excellent
What's that guilt? you feel guilty if you don't comment till you are tired?
he he, true
That and the mobile commenting. :D
it's a new iPhone sub-section
:D
Wait til the iApp comes out - then everyone will be doing it. :P
"You now start commenting on the move, probably via iPhone. There is no doubting or hiding the fact you are over-addicted and need to get a life outside SPC!"
Or something to that extent :D
Go for it then :)
that'll be it :)
Well I am tired now so I'm heading off .. see you all tomorrow.
Night Jackie. :)
Night Jackie
Done and done. Lukeh will be pleased since sidepodaddiction now goes all the way up to 11...
Does anyone have a stream for th IRL race?
havn't bothered to look, wouldn't know how, watching it on tv. Sorry
:D
I figured you had it on TV. I just wondered if any of the others were watching online
Will look for one once I'm finished with what I'm doing.
:P
I found a baseball stream just in time to see the Yankees rack up 3 runs off 3 first pitch hits
Sorry Jouneyer, try www.indycar.com, they live stream the races.
Night Jackie and others leaving.
Sorry, I'm not at home so I don't have my bookmarks...
Indycar.com live streams the race. Ryan Briscoe into the wall hard
Watching that on the telly now. I am pleased (Yankees fan). My dad is not pleased (Mets fan).
Boo Hiss, I'm a Rays fan
No-one is perfect
Just turned Sky Sports on to check in with the IRL, the place is more than half empty..
Alright, at least we've made the post season recently
They showed the front stretch grandstand and they looked full, maybe that's all they opened. At least they got more than Isambul
A shame you guys missed out in 07. We were rootin for ya!
Okay, now you're just being abusive. but still laughing
go to 28 June thread
:D
No, really, we were! :)
I appreciate that. I lived my life on a roller coaster with the Rays
The Tardis is Alianora’s department although the last I heard Jordan borrowed it and lost it {Comment #762}
Still looking for it, though given events of last weekend, I suspect he's sold it to Force India and they've fitted it to Fisichella's car...
FIREFOX CRASHED AND I MISSED IT!!!!!!!!!!!! {Comment #796}
It crashed on my computer two hours ago and you missed that too...
