It is Bank Holiday Monday in the UK, granted to us because Boxing Day fell at the weekend. There is still little to go on in the news stakes, which is a breath of fresh air and means we have been able to get other stuff done. Here are some of the things we're talking about:
- The 2009 Season Review Megamix was released yesterday, featuring a summary of the year just gone from our excellent listeners. Everything from the downpour at Malaysia to the replacement of Bourdais is covered, and it's great to get views from a variety of eloquent F1 fans.
- We have a new blog to join in the F1 fun - Tom G, who recently got a mention in the podcast, has set up A Little Bit... Piquet. There's only an intro post for now, but I'm sure the rest of the entries won't be a little bit Piquet at all.
- Recently I posted a roundup of the Advent Calendar podcast - a breakdown of all the shows with descriptions for each - in place of an omnibus edition of the extended podcast. At three minutes each, that omnibus would be about 75 minutes long. I'm pretty certain Mr C would not approve of such things!
That's all for now, although just a quick reminder to everyone (but also to me) that it is Must Comment Monday today, so keep an eye on all those F1 blogs.
Mr C says he is determined to both remember and do MCM justice this week. I will do the same, and as ever, I will see you in the comments.

Happy Monday
Monday? Blimey, that jumped up on me!
and the same to you!
Yesterday didn't feel like a Sunday.
Today doesn't feel like a Monday, I mean football at 12:45 on a Monday.
can someone motivate me to achieve something with my last day of holiday please?
*cough* blog post *cough*
what would you like to do ?
GO GO GO!!!!!!!!
nooo I want to actually leave the house
I'd like to get out of my pjs and go for a walk, perhaps some shopping, not sure. I'd just like to get outside because it's a nice day.
ok...
go get dressed, and then come back. GO
but, but, but the couch is so comfy!
NOW *looks sternly*
GO GO GO!!!!!
I think the first step will be having something to eat. I would also like suggestions of places I can walk to :D
Where are you?
Wellington ;)
at my house. I don't need specific ideas because I assume none of you are familiar with Melbourne. But general 'the shops' 'the beach' 'the park' 'the river' 'the city' sort of ideas :D
Lou is desperate to go to the zoo but can't. Do you have a zoo you could visit and tell her about it.
That'd just be cruel!
Oh OK - Albert Park then ;)
I have a 5 yr old and a 7 yr old.
My house _IS_ a zoo!
I have a year pass to my zoo. No bloody Pandas in it though!
you meanie!
come to think of it, I wonder if I have pictures of the baby panda from the National Zoo in DC. I know I took pictures, I just don't know if they're in my aperture library.
The zoo is 1.5km away and well within walking distance. The elephant is pregnant. I am too cheap to pay the $24.40 to get in though.
this is a good idea.
I am only trying to help
sorry, twas distracted by a christine who decided she needed a late-night sugar rush before sleep, and is now insisting time is going faster for her than it is for me.
where was i?
if amy wants to take my camera and test it out for me she can.. might be warmer where she is..
Sidepodtime is weirder than I thought or there is some weird gravity in sidepodcast towers
its 21 at the moment. It feels warmer. Might be a bit far to throw the camera to me though.
There's a weird gravity, I'm actually 5 feet closer to it than I was earlier, I'm sure...
I did a 25% distance race at Albert Park on the Wii (14 laps). Seemed to go in a flash although the preamble with practice/qualifying seemed to take a while despite copious skipping. I came 3rd, which was odd because in the pre-race sessions I was up to 6sec/lap faster - I pitted once too many times I think.
Then I did lots of challenges which were fun.
21! ahh i'm in the wrong country. it's very cold here. that's true.. wouldn't want to damage my new camera....
i'm not sure. i requires further investigation. shall purchase more chocolate and experiment tomorrow.
you mean she's got through her big milkybar already? oh and YOU WENT OUTSIDE?!
As I seem to remember being told last week live on air, 'outside is dangerous'.
ahh. well i had a haagen dazs craving...
:)
On the plus side, the nasty ice is gone.
I am sure the reason Newton got gravity wrong is that he did not have chocolate.
we made sure of that first.
:D :P
there's a blog post about that... i think :)
Ooh, has gone quiet around here...
They are talking in yesterday's post
Ah, I see.

fancy seeing you here.
IMDB's Top 25 films of the dcade
I've seen 18 [on Wednesday it'll be 19 inc Avatar]
http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/12/26/imdbs-top-25-movies-of-the-decade/
have seen x1 - memento.
Which is brilliant
You're missing some great films sir
I should link this on Christine's Film Watch
good plan.
woop, 4 for me.
3 LOTR and slumdawg
8 here
i saw half of the first one and walked out of the cinema. not sure that counts.
i got given one of those huuge popcorns, so i stayed ;)
Not a fan?
The Hobbit should be great, is a much smaller book
have seen 6.
Lord of the rings films, Spirited away, and two of my favourite films ever - The Pianist and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
was very, very bored by it.
i'd never watched them so a friend sat me down and we watched all three in one day.. it kinda put me off them, but i have seen them :)
I don't really approve of that list. Some of those films are really duff! Up is awesome though!!
3xLOTR, District 9, Batman Begins, The Prestige, Requiem For A Dream, Eternal Sunshine.
The only one of those I'd question being in any 'Top' list is The Prestige..
It's a viewer's vote list I think
It does take a lot of patience.
Ooh, quote fail :)
That explains it then! District 9 was a total pile of rubbish and Avatar is basically Pocahontas with blue people....
Oh my goodness, am just having a search through the Renault Sport media bit and found 28 pages of a tour of the Renault Factory inc driver development bits and louise goodmans media training that the WSR did.
I forsee a very picturey post coming on
Yeah, it was good but...
A Christopher Nolan influence I think
What, the Hobbit? I'm a book lover, I can plough through most things but I ended up giving that away....
I liked District 9!
A mate wants to go all the way to London to watch Avatar in 3D in the Imax. I'm yet to be convinced.
Couldn't disagree more
But Horses for Courses... an' all that
It's a tiny book
yyyay! :)
Will let you know how it goes
This parody trailer made me laugh today
http://www.oliviamunn.com/thelma-and-louise-meets-avatar/
I just didn't find it very innovative. My friends all rave aboutit and it annoys me. They all go on about how they had such an affinity with the aliens towards the end and how clever the filmmaking was. I just think they're heathens. I felt sorry for the aliens right at the start :( Poor prawns :(
8 for me too, which shocks me. I thought it would be less. Although 3 of those are the LOTR and I hated all of them.
I don't get it
what possessed you to watch 3 if you hated 1 and 2?
“THELMA AND LOUISE” MEETS “AVATAR”
but it was just Thelma and Louise with makeup?
my obsessed friend who needed someone to go to the midnight premieres of all of them with her. She paid for the tickets, I ate lots of popcorn. I do like popcorn.
:D
Maybe I'm just odd
'You look like a weresmurf' got me
:D
I thought the first one was too long. Loved the 2nd and 3rd (although again, the ending was too long)
I really, really don't like the fantasy genre.
I've got the extended editions of all 3
Probably the last 3 DVDs I ever bought
I just think James Cameron has been obtuse with the making of Avatar. Yes, the techniques might well be groundbreaking, but there are other ways of doing it and I'm not sure it really adds to the storytelling aspect.
what type?
Or will
just the usual super buttery movie popcorn.
Ooooh that's a bit odd. I tried to post that ages ago and it wasn't working. Just ignore my grumpy old man mutterings.
hmpf.
I think I may have watched the extended versions. It was at this same mate's place on his projector :-) Actually I think the first two were that way, the day before we saw the 3rd in the cinema.
that upsets you? :D
Ah. I'm usually not sold on it, prefer spacey sci-fi.
its ok, but salt ruuuuules
Fact.
I don't get people who mix sweet & salt popcorn
but the buttery ones are already super salty! unless you crazy UK folk have different movie popcorn to us.
Like butterkist, super sweet
agreed :)
ok, am now hungry.
ew, sweet butter? that sounds wrong.
Yeah I think we do.... The sweet one doesn't taste of much, just kinda sweet.
Do you have ID? ;)
:D you have ice cream?
It's a bit caramelised, I think
I think I am going to have to go to a movie in London and work this out.
You just gotta stop talking during films now and you'd be hte perfect filmer goer :P
ummmm... how did that get public, did i miss a comment?
You can't buy butterkist in the average British cinema anymore though. Not in big tubs at any rate.
!! uh oh... mrs c is gonna be mad you don't check her blog...
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/12/27/another-barrier-to-ice-cream/
I am perfect!! I don't talk under normal circumstances....
Still not reading Christine's blog huh? ;)
aww shoot. i had no idea.
While you're out, get some more Milky Bars :)
s'alright if you buy her more chocolate before she wakes up i'm sure all will be forgiven ;)
:P
not convinced. we'll get nick to test
last time I got ID'ed, the guy then asked me for my birthday and star sign and decided it took me so long to answer that it was not my ID. It took me so long to answer because I was so shocked at what was happening.
You ask him! I'm not a cinema pest.....
i cannot comprehend how she can blog without me knowing about it.
i can't even comment without her knowing.
I got ID'd in Phoenix [in my mid 30's] and discovered when we got in that although the bar was staying open, they'd stopped serving alcohol
WTF?
you need some sort of email updater thing for an rss feed.
here's the rss feed: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/feed/rss/
here's the emailing thingy: http://www.feedmailer.net/
you need to check your feed reader more ;)
you think i check my email??
You need to put 'read Christine's blog' on The List
hm, true
i just read the comments. if it's not in the comments i don't need to know.
:D
or set her blog as a home page? that way you'll always see when a new blog post appears...
And they wonder why we digress
How's that working out for ya?
:)
yes. great.
and then she'll blog on mfc. or i heart franck...
you can have more than one home page :P
chrome? set here different blogs as the different home pages
oh.
There's just no stopping that girl
Morning, folks.
Doesn't Google have this home page thingy, where you can aggregate multiple feed readers? Maybe you can set that (or another page that works similarly) as your home page?
Have each one on a tab and set a 30 minute timer. That way you can check each of them every half hour
i think maybe, the answer is she should blog less :)
How does that become a home page then and how do you decide which one to open with?
I wonder how she lived without the Internet... I suspect Christine was one of those girls who had a proper diary (with paper and ink and everything!) when she was a kid.
not a chance. :D Wait til she reads that... :P
maybe you need a post it not to stick to your mac telling you to check her blog ;)
hello. we done did that thing we said we would, and made it faster to jump to parts of the video:
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/20/live-after-eight/
I really want to be able to keep a diary! I try so hard but I just forget.
My sister gave me some chocolate alcohol thing native to a town near where she presently lives. It is very nice on its own, however, it does not work with hot chocolate.
awesome! testing it now...
oooh hoorah. loves it
reduces the startup time from 4 mins to about 4 seconds.
#justusesitunes :P
brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. i loves it! :D
Doesn't give you the unedited show though
replays usually come up on the site first before they do on itunes. ;)
also, my laptop is dangerously low on free space, so i don't wanna add to it by downloading live stream replays. i'd rather just watch them online. :)
show selector does.
talking of which, i think we're bringing that into the main site this week.
Can do if you opt in. I personally don't but one can....
yeah, that's a good idea. :)
I'd either have time to watch live or I'm busy and so only really want the edit.
Didn't know that
time for me to sleep. night all! xx
Night Lou
Night Lou. :)
I just love the trailers page that Apple has
http://www.apple.com/trailers/
Although Sex & the City 2 should surely be outlawed out of principle
:D Good find, though, Bassano. :)
night
Anyone else think it's wierd that the thing my town is most known for is stupid people racing in mud?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/8431808.stm
Could be worse, they could be chasing cheese down a hill
You raise a good point. That's in for me, we have family over from 11am, i'm told that I don't need to be up then, but i'l almost certainly get woken up before then by the doorbell. booo. Night all
See ya Jon
I think I saw this on TV when that guy from Countryfile did it... (not John Craven!)
night
Mmmm... Cheese. :D
Hokie scrud! The manual for the lego BIG millenium falcon is 12"x16" and 314 pages.
I'm afraid I've gone and done something rather rash.
Anyone watch the tv show 'The Misfits'?
Any good?
WOW. EPIC.
Nooo! It's the coolest thing EVAH! I'd love to help if we were in the same neighborhood (which, sadly, we're not...)
That's gonna need more than cotton thread to hang it up
Post pics when built please, sounds fab
I honestly have no idea right now where I'm going to display it when I'm done. And oh yes, there will be pictures.
Mmmm. You can even post pics for every module completed. :D
My last big LEGO project was when I built that EPIC 1:10 scale LEGO-Ferrari F1 car. And that was 5 years ago! Sadly, there's not enough space here at home to invest in any more huge LEGOstructures.
I've never had a lego kit. I really love lego though :(
LEGO, for me, is the most important toy a kid should ever have. Even more than Play-Doh! When I have kids in the future, I'd give them a LEGO set before I get them a computer - fact. :D It probably helps that it's cheaper too... :)
I think I have around 40 of various sizes. I think my son has around 10 or 15, but most of those don't stay together, he's always coming up with new stuff.
Is there a LEGO computer game? You should be able to build with virtual LEGO
I had a suitcase of regular bricks when I was young. I might still have it in "my room" at my parents' house. I've never had any of these newfangled sets though, just bricks!
There are LEGO CAD type programs you can download for free, but they're not really meant for kids.
cant you design and buy your own lego kit now? real life stuff rather than virtual
There are - but I prefer actual LEGO to develop their motor skills and dexterity.
I play LEGO games on the PSP from time to time. :)
There's Lego Star Wars, Indy & Batman I think
They are console games but PC may be available too
I have one too! Hmmm... Perhaps I should pull that out before my vacation ends. :)
Yes, you can. They have LEGO Creator now. Although given the complexity of it, I would think that's aimed more towards AFOLs*. But I guess parents can do it for their kids too.
AFOL = Adult Fan of LEGO
You can buy separate bricks. Unfortunately there's ONE particular piece I'm looking for to build some extra cars that they don't seem to have for sale in their online shop.
Dear lego People,
This is expensive!
http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=10179
That's good! When your son starts coming up with things of his own, that's when his imagination works overtime. :D
yes, but I got a damaged box one, $100 off!
That is ridiculous
ebay?
It's only hunks of plastic!
yes.
5000+ hunks of plastic :)
Hunks of plastic customized to fit a certain idea or concept. :D
Although, that said, a lot of that price is probably to pay for the license.
:D
I'm not sure about paying for the license, all lego kits are expensive here in the states.
Inkection moulding costs nothing to run. The plastic material costs nothing. The only cost is the moulding tool and you get millions of bricks from one of those
And the Lucasfilm™ fees
Hmmm. You make a good point there. That might explain why Mega Bloks has made some inroads on LEGO this decade. Although it seems LEGO is back in full force - I even saw them sponsoring the ESPN NBA Christmas Day Marathon...
Does anyone here live near the Moorland Hotel in Plymouth?
http://www.moorlandhotel.com/index.htm
I think Pat is about the closest to there
Graham S is near Plymouth according to the Listener's Map
ah ha! clever chap! thanks
Any particular reason?
Woah, 3 o'clock
I'm in danger of not fitting another film in
G'night folks
Night Bassano
turns out my friend patricia and her mum own it. looks like a nice place to stay from the website. i guess im kinda plugging it. i think i should have asked who wants to go to plymouth!
Good night Bassano.
the map has improved out of site! now i know where Ollie is!
It was probably plugged when first blogged, but I simply must point your attention to the youtube video on Jon's Feeder Series blog from Turkey 2006. Lewis Hamilton and Timo Glock are outstanding. The funniest bit is where the commentator says "and Piquet has just woken up" :P
http://thefeederseries.wordpress.com/2009/12/20/back-in-time-turkey-2006/
That video has popped up on few sites since it happened
how is everybody post Christmas ?
v.good wolf. yourself?
stuffed to the gills, and grinning like an idiot all the time. :D
you?
came to check out how nothing is happening in the office, getting ready to sgift myself to Europe for 2 weeks :-)
ahh nice. where you heading?
Germany for work + probably somewhere else for some time off from everything
fantastic :)
found myself in the video on the Bacardi website :-)
http://championsdrinkresponsibly.com/index.aspx
then Showcase then Access Ascari and somewhere in that clip appears my face :-)
oh yes, there is a direct link too :-)
http://championsdrinkresponsibly.com/Default.aspx?game=AscariVideo&staff=false
coooooool!
you're the lady at the end, right?
hmm.... no :-)
rats.
but it is definitely nice to remind myself of nice sunny few days in south of Spain, especially during these polluted, cold and humid days we have here right now
could you ask them for a copy of the video for your own site?
well I downloaded the video, so I have it for myself :-) one of the nice Bacardi ladies sent me email asking for some feedback and some info on how I helped to spread the don't drink and drive message. I am going to reply and ask how would they feel about me posting the video. they are proud abou their viral video hitting 250,000 views on youtube so I do not think they would mind some added free publicity with this one
sounds like a fine plan. and perfect timing too :)
i must sleep, i shall return in a couple of hours (or more).
Grrrr. Can't sleep
At least Tribial Pursuit is free today on the App Store
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/trivial-pursuit/id310749044?mt=8
*or even Trivial
thanks for the heads up. Thinking that the link would be UK only, I tried searching the App store on my iPhone and could not find Trivial Pursuit. The link worked first time!
I resorted to searching for tribial as well!
PS. I hope you are soundly asleep for many hours as your reward for spreading the App love :p
Morning everyone :)
I am being forced into using IE8 here for my browsing (boo!) And it seems IE8 doesn't like the doohicky (double boo!)

good evening mr alex :D
I am about to have breakfast... Yum!
ooh I wish it was breakfast time, that would mean work was still 24ish hours away instead of 12ish :(
Hashtags broke the interwebz?
Morning All
7 seen here.
i leave at 8:30 for a 10am start. you?
IMDB's Top 25 films of the dcade
I've seen 18 [on Wednesday it'll be 19 inc Avatar] {Comment #55}
I've seen 6: Dark Knight, 3 LOTRs and Batman Begins.
I'll probably see Avatar tomorrow.
Um... ...apparently I can't count. I meant 5.
It could be worse! I am working now! and i was yesterday too!
last time I got ID'ed, the guy then asked me for my birthday and star sign and decided it took me so long to answer that it was not my ID. It took me so long to answer because I was so shocked at what was happening. {Comment #128}
That is just so weird!
I once got asked for my ID when attempting to buy a pair of rounded scissors whose packaging specifically said "Suitable for ages 3+". I was 22 at the time and let them see my university card (impossible to get one at below age 17 due to university regulations, regular scissors can be sold to anyone 16 and over and my passport was at home). It still took them 5 minutes for the cashier and her manager to decide I was old enough to purchase the scissors.
If they'd really thought I was too young for the scissors (and the fact I could see over their four-foot counter should have been a clue), then I think the next move on their part would have been to mount a search for my parents...
Morning.
Avatar is full in both Cinemas here for a week as it's the Christmas hols and everything else is closed!
I've seen 10 of those movies and I am watching LOTR right now. I love the films but they are so difficult to watch on account of them being so long!
tomorrow will be leaving at 10.15 for a 10.30 start :D
Hello all :)
Just seen an advert for the World Wildlife Fund who are asking for people to adopt pandas.
#don'ttellmrc
Hehe, we did that. I don't think he'll let me do another one :)
the only cure I found was to use firefox - for a long time I just used the standard reply to :(.
Not much help am I lol?
F1 Lego is on sale in the Lego shop though - for anyone seeking a ferrari team that is :)
dd2 wants me to buy a panda outfit for ds2. Prehaps I should suggest that she adopts a wwf panda instead.....
I'm looking at tickets to see Go West at the Cressett in Peterborough. God I love that group.
They're still going?
Yup :P
Just fished out their 1st album I had on Cassette (although since yesterday I have no way of playing it).
That was 24 years ago. Now feeling old,
Link for those who have no idea what a cassette is/was
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Cassette
I used to love cassettes and dubbing stuff!
Right, time for a late lunch of leftover herrings and cold cut meats :D
I still have the mix tape (a cassette) that my wife made me when we were dating. Well, it's somewhere in the house. That was like 13 years ago.
I have the ferrari F1 kit that fits the mini-figs. Too bad it's Ferrari.
good moaning.
what has i missed?
watched in 3D few days ago. Not bad, quite good actually, the only drawback was that the dialogues in that special native language only had Chinese subtitles, so I had no idea what they talked about. other than that not much to complain about
The 'r' in morning, it looks like.
:D :D
Hello folks.
hullo.
nicknames from inside the paddock, who might've been offering ralf a seat and the origins of chitty chitty bang bang:
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/12/28/a-ramble-about-ralf-and-chitty-chitty-bang-bang/
tis on me list.
i will kill you.
;)
my advice... don't get a furry one.
This is one of the reasons I like Joe. He shows there's some personality back there (not just from him)
My theory that Gilles Simon left Ferrari to head up the McLaren engine program turned out to be a bit wide of the mark. He is working for his old buddy Todt at the FIA to head up a project promoting the advance of environmentally friendly technology.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8432698.stm
where did that find that picture? he looks like he's just been smacked with a spade.
Looks like it should be a caption contest picture to me.
:D
Right, as it's Must Comment Monday, I shall do so.
I swear, if someone just showed me a picture of Todt outside of FIA context I'd swear it was Mel Brooks.
Apparently, I'd swear a lot.
f1 wolf has a quiz:
http://www.f1wolf.com/2009/12/2009-end-of-the-year-f1-quiz.html
am going to tackle it shortly.
Booooo.
I'm not sure I actually watched this season.
Hi all
Another little reminder of a great freebie for today
Trivial Pursuit App
http://www.itunes12daysofchristmas.co.uk/
Got it, I ended up with two questions in a row about pandas. I instantly thought of Christine.
Woohoo! I better get my hands on that then!
It's pretty good too
Can top up with extra Question packs later but there's no need
Very good bargain indeed, I'm suitably impressed.
It will take me forever to come up with the right answers, I'm sure.
3 difficulty levels should help then
Peter Windsor saying the US F1 car will be CFD designed
Also mentions 'the rhythm of life' which I tried to ignore but couldn't :)
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80684
I already tweeted a reply to them "I disagree - the other teams have also started from scratch & have had more to show for it. You are behind the ball & won't admit it!"
I think that's most likely the case. 12 teams on the grid in Bahrain?
It was quite a defensive piece from him. 'Look, we're still here - all is good'
which of the new teams that have started from scratch have more to show for it? I haven't seen anything, other than Virgin, (I think it was them).
for a man who's spent most of his working life as a journalist, the idea that journalists need to write stories, appears to have come as something of a surprise to him.
It's a stupid contradictory article. The man boasted about how different and open they would be and now he's trying to justify being silent for almost 6 months!
I wouldn't write them off yet but some drivers would be good
Umm, drivers, car designs, sponsors. Something tangible at least. From the looks of things, USF1 have a nosecone!
err... sorry, my question was about cars, really. the other teams definitely have more to show in terms of drivers :)
Campos have probably been the least convincing
Lotus seem to be on the right road
Don't forget the toaster.
We have seen mockups of the other teams. Fine, you might say, that doesn't mean anything. So why haven't USF1 done the same?
I agree but there's no need to even have a car assembled yet.
that video showed more than a nosecone.
And we've all seen their car designs (at least on a computer screen).
:D
He has spent the last year talking about how good the Windshear wind tunnel is.
I didn't see a single cylon in that video!
well lotus did nick the force india chassis for wind tunnel use :)
:D
which they're planning on putting the full sized car in in January.
Which seems kind of backwards to me.
"I noticed the other day that Nick Wirth issued a press release about the new Virgin F1 car being entirely designed on CFD – Computational Fluid Dynamics (rather than in the wind tunnel)," he said.
"The same thing applies to our car, although we see this as a logical process for a new team rather than something about which to be particularly excited"
True - but at least they look like they were doing some work on a car design.
It's all about perception, and as a former press officer, Peter Windsor should have known better and showed his hand more.
it appears that it's not an outfit that I'm to provide the cash for.
Aparently there is a build-a-bear panda with a Christmas outfit.
Only when I enquired how much I was expected to hand over, they said that they would take daddy instead as he wouldn't ask silly questions like that
heheheh!
I agree that their press hasn't been good. Heck, it's been pretty much nonexistent.
Hang on - has he contradicted himself on that one too? He proclaims he moved to Charlotte to use the best wind tunnel in the business, and then tells us the car will be CFD designed?
Sorry, I'm calling shenanigans on that one!
As I said, I think it's a defensive position, possibly to reassure the potential & existing sponsors
Read peter's post, they're going to put the full size car in it in January.
I don't know enough about car design to know whether that's backwards or not, but it seems a bit backwards to me.
I'm actually just been inspired and so am writing for A Little Bit... Piquet on the matter of USF1.
If we get out of January and there are no drivers then I'll be in the "they're not going to make it camp".
As it is I think the rest of you are all too negative, but I love it anway! :D
oh that sort of journalist. The sort that just tell it to a real writer and take the credit for someone else being able to get a story out of it.
but... but... we haven't bullied you into writing anything?
Then why say "The same thing applies to our car" regarding Virgin F1's entirely CFD designed car?
Sorry, were you supposed to?
Cool, nice one Tom
we normally have to :)
is it a talkie toaster?
Exactly. Peter is just full of (Red) Bull. They have nothing - which is surprising considering they have the YouTube guy investing in the team. Now I begin to doubt that as well...
Don't confuse skepticism with negativity
Normally they would produce wind tunnel models then the full size model but if it is CFD designed they don't need models. You can't do shaker rig tests on scale models and you can't crash test them so I don't see the point.
You've bullied me into writing something. About halfway done actually. Don't know if you'll ever get it though. I have a habit of not finishing blog posts.
Excellent, I'm breaking the mould then! Just like my rather brightly coloured hat...
So in other words Peter is either wrong or he is wasting the team's time and money?
hmmm so he's got the bluff confused with the blag then.
It sounds like he doesn't understand the process which would be a bit odd for someone with his history. Looks like the basic design is CFD then as soon as they have a base design it goes into a wind tunnel for development.
I'm a pretty competitive "homer" in this case, so skepticism and negativity is the same to me :)
Does it have stripes? A pointy bit or three? A bell or tassle?
Or have I just had too much cake and been to too many festivals?
question.
what makes anyone think the youtube guy has a clue what he's doing? he likely got lucky and made a packet.
i've met a couple of internet millionaires and the one thing they all have in common is they're completely stupid. i doubt he even knows how or why youtube got successful.
It's one of those Peruvian chullos, but it's black with neon green and orange pattern.
I don't know if USF1 are incompetent or just clueless. They have the big announcement on Speed talking about how open they will be then tell us that a year's worth of radio silence was planned. That seems kind of stupid. They tell us how great Windshear is then tell us that the car is CFD designed.
Isn't that true, regardless? ;)
What happened to their nosecone? Did they lose it? A nosecone is something, isn't it? :D
I have no idea - I do know that YouTube was set up as a place where people could upload and share home movies, so maybe they did get lucky?
Oh boy, we have an optimist in aisle 3!
I have had the same experience with guys who made big reputations in the electronics industry in the 1980s. They are treated as geniuses but they don't seem to realise everyone in the industry made money in that decade. Regardless who was in a particulary job the result would have been more or less the same.
Well, I guess as a USF1 supporter, or any of the new teams, that's probably a pre-requisite
Do we know it was a real nosecone?
i agree with that. lotus appear farthest ahead, but if mallya decides their car looks too much like a fif1, then they're not racing either.
It was actually a waste paper basket... :P
Until Tony Fernandes pays him off... which I suspect is the real issue here!
Silly boy! It was a crumb tray for the toaster!
Oops, my mistake.
why?
Not a liquid cheese dispenser for the branded burgers?
Well, you went from saying all they had is a nosecone to saying they have nothing, so I'm just asking where the nosecone went :)
But yes, I'm an optimist. I enjoy watching the races, and I'll watch it even if USF1 doesn't make it. I'm not really a fan of any particular driver or team, so it would be nice if I could have a "home" team that I could call my own, no matter how bad they ended up being, you know?
Because Mallya is short of money - remember he isn't good at paying the bills. I suspect if Fernandes brings a cheque the whole thing will get forgotten...
I think it would be great if it did happen - I just don't think it will. NASCAR and Tony George have managed to wipe out a whole generation of US single seater stars, so it's going to be very difficult to do this!
If anything's going to call for a successful return to racing Stateside, a home team will be part of it
It should be do-able but the only convincing things about USF1 is the Jim Clark poster and the Brian Kerramba videos.
i doubt it's that simple, but we'll see.
don't forget kingfisher and air asia compete for the same customers.
You have a good point on the airline rivalry - but then why hasn't Mallya kicked up a stink with Virgin? Not direct competition?
I just think that if money was offered, Mallya would take it and keep mum about it.
Didn't one of those two airlines fly a completely empty flight a few weeks ago?
they didn't steal his chassis to perform wind tunnel testing?
new page for y'all:
http://sidepodcast.com/shows/
Airlines do that all time when aircraft become out of position
How do you know that they didn't? They could have nicked the same model - just that FIF1 have 'proof' that Lotus did?
Ooooh.
Looking at the bottom, there isn't an Aside with Joe one or is it still under construction that page?
what??
virgin are using cfd.
i may have broken doohickey. one sec.
This is a long old post, 223 words so far, apparently.
test.
as you were.
under construction. tis old content pressed into new work :)
Indeed they are. But what if they 'borrowed' data from another team like Lotus did (somehow)?
I'm just saying that it could have happened and that it must have happened in the past - think Super Aguri and the DD diffuser ending up at Brawn and Toyota. Would SA have cried foul if they were still racing?
this discussion is nonsense good chap. sorry.
Guessed as so. But looking good ;)
poor Joe. ;)
"I didn't have time to write a short post so I wrote a long one instead"
Or maybe it's because there's so much to talk about with USF1... or how little there seems to be.
grrrrr....
I believe this one had a 1000 more
Show off! :P
i've got a lovely 2000 word report about the nightclub industry that i wrote if you want it ;) :P
I'm not showing off, it was meerly a plug

Had no idea you were so young!
Hi Everyone,
Speak of the devil, I just tweeted this to Steven Roy:
"I think Peter Windsor went to the Tiger Woods' School of Public Relations Management and Communications."
Most people don't ;)
Ok, post is done, a little shorter than that big one RG plugged but it's alright. Included is a new Piquet rating feature.
What caused this was the steaming pile that came from Mr. Windsor today in Autosport.
If he was pinocchio, his wooden nose could cross the channel and provide transport to all those stranded from the Channel Tunnel.
haha, I love the "Piquet rating feature"!
rofl whipts
grrrr... I don't know what causes this, but on ALL my macs, when I left click in a flash are in firefox it treats it like a right click, so the flash menu pops up. Very annoying.
Hi everyone
hey ya squire.
Back in the Middle Ages, are we?
Yarrrr
(Middle aged pirate, about 36 years old)
Hi Lukeh
Hey mate.
How is everyone today? all good in the world of sidepodland?
OK fine then. But FIF1 getting annoyed because Lotus is using a one-year old wind tunnel model that they did is just as silly considering how much development that team had, which is why I think this is just about Vijay wanting a nice fat cheque to pay his bills, much like a lot of small companies do when they see a big one might be using their IP. Think i4i vs. Microsoft of similar.
At the end of the day, we know Vijay is short on cash and I reckon if Tony Fernandes offers to settle he wouldn't say no. Lotus will be on the grid and everyone's happy!
Vijay reminds me of what I've said about Microsoft over the years, "If they didn't have so much money... they would be out of business."
Really, if Vijay ran his business as well as he runs his F1 team, how the heck did he make all that money?
...did I just read correctly that there are rumours that Ralf Schumacher could be returning?
........seriously?
joe had a post on it, but i hope not.
he did okay didn't he? look at the red bull backed str.
Maybe THAT is the evil Michael Schumacher twin that Luca was talking about.
To USF1 - who we have established is just talking rubbish!
I think Michael returning is slightly mad.
The fact that just the idea of Ralf returning has reduced me to giggling in laughter sums it up for me
Just starting on the last LOTR film ... they're really good but they're just so long!
I saw "The Return of The King" Extended Version on Netflix last night and couldn't imagine how it could be any longer.
I refuse to watch the extended versions - three hours is more than enough for any film!
Oh lord, I've just seem something truly terrifying.
Ralf wants to come back.
For the record if Ralf Schumacher races for USF1, I will quit covering USF1 and rebrand the blog.
In retrospect... making a blog somewhat dedicated to USF1 was a BADDdddddddd idea.
hehe.
:(
Could be worse.
Could be Ide.
Well, if they don't make it, then you won't need to expend much effort on it, that's for sure!
What are you betting that if he does, Pete Windsor will claim him as 'Pensylvania Dutch'? :D
I laughed at that...
Then realized that Peter would probably do something that stupid...
(*palm meets forehead*)
An Amish F1 driver?
If that the case, why don't USF1 just hire Nick Heidfeld... he already has the beard. He just needs a black hat, suit, and the ability to make overpriced furniture.
I am being inspired by this question to make a fake press release. Will be on my blog later.
You know, I rally think we should persist with Fantasy Racers - loads of other blogs are starting leagues and it would be a shame not to face them!
Nasty Tricksy Hobbitses!
That is your fantasy racers team name right there.
Nah it's RubberGoat Racers man!
My new favourite car:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCqY-vAX4EA
It sounds just as good as it looks - that's the same 3.4L V8 they stick in the Formula Nippon cars! :D
Ah yes, the NSX 'production car' that got cancelled and then allowed to compete as a GT500 due to a loophole in the rules?
Erm...all I know is that it's replacing the NSX in SuperGT. And that I love it :D
It does sound quite nice :D
Mind you, I hope Lexus get's a SGT version of the LF-A sorted. LFA vs HSV-010 vs GT-R would be something quite special :D
Well, we DO need something to put the toaster on, don't we?
I adored it when I saw pictures of it for the first time. Now I know what it sounds like, this is getting dangerously close to replacing the Gallardo as my favourite car.
SOUNDS. SO. GOOD! :D

I read somewhere that the R36 might be a hybrid (although I think it was just based on speculation and not any actual evidence). I wonder if I could shoehorn the children in the back if/when it comes out!
Good. I think the maids are done and gone. I can go upstairs and use the bathroom now!
has anyone noticed that Gimli gets more Scottish as Lord of The Rings progresses?
So what's everyone up to tonight?
Assassins Creed 2 :D
I'm on vacation all week, and the kids decided to go to camp today (their after school day care runs camps when school is out).
So right now I'm sitting in front of the computer, eating a burrito!

I'll be heading back to MW2 multiplayer in a moment.
Listening to music on iTunes that I don't remember downloading

Toasters!
If you don't know about USF1 and toasters you need to watch all of these.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJTynvakZok&feature=channel
Oh, I know all about them and their toasters... :)
Never stop being funny, these things
I wonder how many toasters it takes to get a free USF1 oven mitt?
Especially Day 3
Introducing the new USF1 Toaster, as used by the engineers at USF1 when they aren't making F1 cars! Only $37.95! Order now and receive this fabulous USF1 oven mitt worth $24.99 absolutely free! Call now!
I should print out a sticker and put it on our toaster.
Wife might not like it, though.
Do it anyway! But, if she does complain, I didn't tell you to do it...
If I was running USF1 I would be cashing in on this and selling toasters
heh, you should tweet that to them.
funny you mention that...
Oh dear, have you?
Gah, link fail. Dear me.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/usf1advert-jpg
you have outdone yourself sir!
That item #15 on my "25 things I would do if I was the ahead of USF1."
It is right between #14 "Sign Summerton and Alexander Rossi as test drivers and have them at the first few tests" and #16 "Call Coca Cola, Walmart, and Boeing. If they can't get sponsorship from them, then they are in trouble."
Oh dear, I see Fake Piquet Jr on Twitter found my blog... :P
my fault sorry ;)
Nah, is alright, was quite funny actually!
:D`
Bah, only two slices! That's it, I give up! Rubbish!
Am now selling my allegiences for a 4 slice toaster.
I say give them a chance, I'm sure once 2011 hits they have sufficient research and time to add an extra slot.
Didn't the Skunk Works start off as Toaster Manufacturer as well? I'm sure if Kelly Johnson was still alive, we would have 16 slice toaster that would be envy of the world and the U.S. Military would buy at millions of dollars each.
I bet Schumacher will have a 4 slice toaster soon.
Interesting choice of weapons. 'Eat toast, bad guys!'
It's that dastardly nick fry and his 4 slice toaster... *shakes fist*
Don't you know, our advanced toaster technology is what finally crushed the Russians economically. They couldn't find the resources to develop a 10 slice toaster, let alone a 16 slice toaster.
Yes, toasters won the cold war.
Wow, I am going to remember that one for interesting trivia situations.
But do they have a Greggs?
Game, set and match, UK
I think that is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever wrote. I think I might add that to a message to the Midweek Motorsports Listeners Collective.
my russian colleagues uncle worked in a steel factory. he figured out that he was making missles!
If someone could describe what a "Greggs" is... I'm sure we could build one!
DO IT!
It's a bakers shop, really, selling delicious pies etc.
Where to start!!!!!
Well, come on, it's TOAST. One of the simplest yet most amazing foods ever.
And part of the Welsh National dish - Welsh Rarebit (cheese on toast)
I'm sure we've got some that could compete. There's one shop in Seattle, WA that rocks, but I can't remember the name.
Pies and rolls, and cakes, and drinks, and cakes, and desserts and... and... and... sausage rolls!!!
Oh and everytime you walk in it slaps you in the face with the best. smell. ever.
You mean this guy: http://www.toaster.org/
I remember seeing a story on him on a TV magazine show once.
A Greggs opened recently in my town, replacing Baker's Oven. Must pay a visit soon.
Do they sell blood thinning medication too, as they may need to in the future
Greggs was recently voted a more desirable holiday destination than Disneyland*
*By my mind
I'd agree with that, I dislike Disney.
Get in, Frodo and Sam! #LOTR
I thought disneyland was rrrrrrrrrubbish when I visited. The best theme park in Paris is Parc Asterix, good times
oh, no, I meant a bake/cake shop.
I still regret not visiting Flinstone World in Arizona
It's alright in Florida, just a bit cheesy. The water parks at the Florida one are good though. They get my approval.
I still think the best theme park in the US is the Busch Gardens in Virginia. Awesome rollercoasters, a beer hall, and tons a great stuff.
I liked it when I was 10 years old. Epcot was pretty cool.
My dad worked at the one in California, way back in the day, being one of the "guides" on that jungle safari boat ride or whatever it was called.
The Loch Ness Monster was my first roller coaster ever.
And my sisters. That poor girl cried the whole way.
I've been to Busch Gardens in Tampa, that was pretty good.
I didn't find Epcot all that interesting really, it was novel and sort of interesting, but to my 10 year old mind, I preferred something more.
There is a Flintsone World?
Is it near Little Rock?
Something like that, don't think it's very big.
Is between Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon
http://www.bedrockcityaz.com/
Though Arkansas should so do that
I soooo want to go to parc asterix. My parents wouldn't take us (although we did get to go to some really good places) so it's on my list. Except that dd1 is going on a scout camp in France next year that concludes with a day at Disney so there will be major jealousy issues on her return :s
Weekend at grandma's for DD1 then
Asterix Parc for everyone else ;)
lol that would cause jealousy (grandma's) as well.....
Nah, they'll all be taken to booklands and like it!
Peter Windsor saying the US F1 car will be CFD designed {Comment #303}
They've been overtaken by Virgin already...
Also, "will be" implies the USF1 car isn't designed yet. Which is scary enough even before considering their earlier pronouncement that they'd already built one chassis...
Yeah it was a toaster chassis!
I think the future tense was mine not Mr Windsor's
Apologies
which of the new teams that have started from scratch have more to show for it? I haven't seen anything, other than Virgin, (I think it was them). {Comment #307}
Campos' car has passed a crash test.
Virgin's car has already been designed if I've understood the situation correctly (though I don't know if they've got anywhere with production yet). It's been showing a mock-up (albeit a very shadowy one).
Lotus/1Malaysia has been showing mock-ups since late November.
USF1 have something, but after today's announcement I don't know if it means anything.
I think the future tense was mine not Mr Windsor's
Apologies {Comment #525}
Understood and accepted. I still want to know why he passed the CFD thing off as a "me too", unless it was to steal Virgin's thunder. After all, they're the only two teams doing that, and Peter raved about the brilliance of the nearby Windshear wind tunnel only two-and-a-half years ago...
Seems like US F1 may soon be sponsored by Saxa and a pinch of salt given out with each press release
which they're planning on putting the full sized car in in January.
Which seems kind of backwards to me. {Comment #323}
So USF1 have decided that they don't need all their mid-season straight-line testing (you have to sacrifice a day's straight-line testing to have 4 hours of full-sized wind tunnel testing)? Interesting...
By the way, they can't do that before January because full-scale wind tunnels in F1 are banned in the 2009 regulations.
Not sure, I was under the impression that since they're a new team their wind tunnel restrictions are different.
Besides, if there's one thing American cars can usually do fairly well it's going fast in a straight line. It's the braking and the curvy bits that stump us :D
Can't wait for Monaco then! :D
lotus appear farthest ahead, but if mallya decides their car looks too much like a fif1, then they're not racing either. {Comment #361}
They probably are - Mallya's options are to either go to the International Court of Arbitration (last time that was tried, the case got settled after 18 months without any sign the court was going to decide anything at all) or to go to the French civil courts, get the wrath of the FIA for not settling it through arbitration and possibly get financial recompense and/or criminal convictions against the instigators rather than a stoppage of the team as a whole.
If Lotus is savvy enough to be developing a Plan B, I reckon they're safe whatever happens in the Model Escapade...
Not sure, I was under the impression that since they're a new team their wind tunnel restrictions are different. {Comment #530}
They were until they signed the Concorde Agreement. Then they were bound by the same rules as everyone else.
If the budget cap had gone through, the wind tunnel rules for USF1 would have been very different...
Bah, Monaco? IF they get cars on the grid AND they make it through the first turn at Bahrain I'll consider it a successful year! :D
You have a good point on the airline rivalry - but then why hasn't Mallya kicked up a stink with Virgin? Not direct competition? {Comment #374}
Because Virgin F1 hasn't done anything to offend Vijay's sporting sensitivities... ...yet...
That makes sense. I had forgotten a lot of that was tied up with the budget cap junk.
This is a long old post, 223 words so far, apparently.
I believe this one had a 1000 more {Comment #394}
My blog entry for today is fairly wordy, but seeing as it's a transcript of a rather long podcast, that's not entirely surprising...
ooh, almost forgot must comment monday. i'll start there.
Vijay reminds me of what I've said about Microsoft over the years, "If they didn't have so much money... they would be out of business."
Really, if Vijay ran his business as well as he runs his F1 team, how the heck did he make all that money? {Comment #414}
Easy. He takes the prevailing operational methodology, pushes it to the edge and finds a way of (eventually) making him money. Remember this is the team that once commented - in a 2009 podcast - that it was on a 2012 budget. It worked for him for his other businesses, he's banking on it working for him in his current sporting ventures as well (at least well enough that he's not spending oodles of money on them forever).
The trouble is that the prevailing operational methodology of this team, much as it upsets me, has been to run to the absolute edge of its resources and beyond for the last 19 years. This tends to annoy a lot of people who rightfully expect the team to leave enough resources spare to pay them in a timely manner. It's especially jarring when the current owner has a choice in the matter. Hopefully one day Vijay will sort things out once and for all and actually let the team have enough margin to do transactions like a 21st-century business is expected to do them...
..did I just read correctly that there are rumours that Ralf Schumacher could be returning? {Comment #415}
Yes. Started by Ralf himself.
Don't believe them.
See that works well for an airline but an F1 team will never last like that.
You know, I rally think we should persist with Fantasy Racers - loads of other blogs are starting leagues and it would be a shame not to face them! {Comment #434}
I can't until the site works on my computer. I can't imagine what happened to the site to break it on my computer though - Danny hasn't said anything about a wholesale redesign...
See that works well for an airline but an F1 team will never last like that. {Comment #541}
What worries me is that Vijay's seen that it sort-of-works for this particular F1 team, has done for years and he may have decided that it's therefore likely to remain so in future...
I just sent this as a letter to the gang at Midweek Motorsports:
Dear Midweek Motorsports Team,
First off I have to say I love the show. However, I think you guys are reading USF1 wrong. There is more to the team then appears to the untrained eye.
During the SpeedTV’s infomercial for… I mean… televised launch of USF1 in February, Peter Windsor stated that USF1 would be a “Skunk Works” type of operation. At first, I felt that this was complete and utter B.S..Surely teams like Williams would be a streamlined operations in a similar light as the Skunk Works. There is no new ground to tread there. So what could Peter Windsor have meant by a streamlined “Skunk Works” type of operation.
I have the answer.
A few weeks ago, I had the chance to meet a current senior member of the Skunk Works at an charity fundraising event at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. After talking about the achievement in engineering that was the SR-71 Blackbird, I made the statement, “I can’t imagine you guys could make anything more stunning?” He laughed and stated, “We’ll, you should see our toasters.” I responded, “What do you mean?” He got really quiet… then he ushered me to a quiet corner of the museum. This is the basics of what he told me.
In 1954, finding that the White House cooks regularly burnt his toast and bagels, President Dwight D. Eisenhower put out a secret directive to find him a toaster that perfectly cooked his toast. Finding to no reasonable and reliable solutions in the commercial sector, Eisenhower with the help of Air Force General Curtis LeMay turned to the one man who they knew who could deliver a toaster of the quality they wanted. That man was Kelly Johnson of Lockheed-Martin. At that time, Johnson was just starting out his secret Skunk Works development group. Already busy working on the then “Top Secret” U-2 spy-plane, Kelly accepted the President’s challenge.
In two weeks, Kelly and his team had a basic four slot toaster ready for testing in the White House. It was a remarkable machine. It had a 87% “no-burnt” rate made with materials that made it the envy of toasters in Washington, D.C. area. After all, toasters of this time had about a 54% “no burn” rate. Not only this, but this new toaster automatically adjusted for the different types of bread and bagels. After seeing the remarkable achievement of his toaster, President Eisenhower started a secret “black” listed toaster project called “Operation Burnt Bagel.” To develop future toasters, The Skunk Works developed a secret division in the noted secret organization only known now as “the crumbs.” All records of who worked for the crumbs is a nationally held secret of the highest order.
The same model toaster that was developed for President Eisenhower was massed produced in 1955 and given to countries around the world as part of the Marshall plan. Citizens around the world were in rejoice with the toasting technology that the free world was able to produce. The Soviets felt they had to respond. Hence, the secret toaster war began.
Each country would try to top each other. When the Soviets developed a five slot toaster with a buttering attachment, the Americans responded several years later with a six slot toaster with an automated butter and jam spreader. Throughout the sixties, billions were spent on this black listed project. In 1968, Kelly Johnson made is masterpiece of toaster engineering. It was a 16 slice toaster with a 100% “no burn” rate. It astonished to world toaster industry.
Our advanced toaster technology is what finally crushed the Soviets economically. They couldn't find the resources to develop a 12 slice toaster, let alone a 16 slice toaster. Over the years, Johnson improved his 16 slice toasters with automatic buttering, jam spreading, crumb tray, spring silencing, and bread slicing technologies. By the time the late 1980’s came around, the Soviets had to give up. They had no money left and they couldn’t get past 12 slices. The highest “no burn” rate they could achieve was 79%.
I was taken aback by all this. I responded, “Surely you can’t mean…” He interrupted, ” Yes, our toasters won the cold war for the west.”
I think Peter Windsor knew about this secret project. He must know, as Kelly Johnson did, that toaster technology is easily applicable to other industries such as space, aerospace, and race car technology. Toaster technology is the basis of America becoming a world super power. If you can master toaster manufacturing, you can master the world.
So please don’t scoff at USF1 and their toaster making infrastructure. After all, if Brawn can go from producing ox carts to world championship cars in a year… I can’t imagine what USF1 can do with their toaster technologies as a basis for their F1 team.

If I ever do another blog or take on a second blog, I want to make a blog specifically dedicated to made up history.
I like that my endorsement has made the header of the Sidepodcast site.
I would start a blog but all of my URL's are taken up.
Why are you up so late?
Am I going mad and seeing God? :P
he spent all of yesterday resting.
Yes, you are. Just don't take what I have to say too serious. It's a problem I've had the last few thousand years on this planet.
No, God's a frequent commentor round these parts.
Ah, I see.
Fair enough then, I won't argue!
Actually, I am taking an extended weekend. I have to work tomorrow. I have a budget meeting followed by a heaven entry governance committee public hearing in the afternoon I am getting ready for.
Why does heaven have a budget? I don't think the restraints of supply and demand apply to you.
You would be surprised. The committee of angels have been really crack down lately on my expenses.
Sorry "cracking." English is not my native language.
if you told me god was irish, i wouldn't have been surprised.
Hello all, nice to see God back in the comments again :)
hey lou.
Hellllo lou
everyone okay? enjoying your back holidays?
*bank
yes indeedy, thanks you.
yourself?
yeah it's been alright... found out it's meant to me snowing in the South East as well as Wales on wednesday though.. booo to the weather.
As long as it doesn't snow in Yorkshire, I'm trying to persuade my Wife to go to Meadowhall.
It's been a long time since I went there!
Was it that bad? :D
No, I left the UK in 1996! ;)
for alex and bassano:
Qik, now have an official (non-jailbreak) app available in the App Store.
http://www.tuaw.com/2009/12/28/more-streaming-video-fun-a-first-look-at-qik-live-for-iphone/
Way ahead of ya
Haven't quite got to grips with UStream so it's good news
Actually, they were already there, it just wasn't live streaming
coooool :)
agreed. but now it is, right?
Has ustream got an official/unofficial app for windows mobile?
I just noticed that Pirates of the Caribbean III was already on TV, but they are showing POTC II on New Year's Eve.
a) Where's the first one?
and b) Why not show them in order?
Booo. Neither of them are worth seeing anyway, but I'm sure stoopid TV schedulers do these things just to annoy me.
you can watch, but not stream i think:
http://www.ustream.tv/mobile
Just watch the first one. The other two are RRRRRubbish anyway.
I thought you didn't have a TV?
iplayer?
Same goes for Matrix.
maybe they'll show the first at easter?.. that is annoying, specially as the first one is the best one..
Didn't know they had a licence for films like that?
The first one isn't on. That's the point.
Agreed. BIG huge fan of the first. Can't see the point of the other two.
Stoopid TV people!
qik 1 ustream 0 (although Win Mob is way behind android and iphone)
you may have missed the point of the comment :)
The point was that the films were (a) out of order and (b) not showing the first (and best) one?
correct.
I watched Herbie Fully Loaded on BBC 1 on Saturday. Herbie's not the same as it used to be.
It's really weird how at Christmas, both Denmark and the UK have exactly the same films on TV?
Really? Did they have it on too?
Yes!
Lukeh, did you make that USF1 ad earlier?
How strange. Maybe it's because of the way the movie companies release them to broadcasters.
Apparently so
he is sleeping.. i think, but i'll answer for him and say yes :P
Someone's ripped it off and passed it off as their own http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3795296&id=24814686399
:O
Boo!
cheeky.
At the ripping off, not Lukeh's brilliant work.
I think I know who it might be too.
Apart from the fact that Lukeh's not getting credit, they aren't claiming they created it
Oh dear, really?
fair point.
They aren't claiming it isn't theirs either!
The comments are harsh.
images can be reported, should we do this?
facebook comments are on par with youtube comments these days :(
all the other images have been nicked too.
Why I don't go on it much.
I recognise a few - Mike Fairholme's JB helmet that he designed years ago for a McLaren test for example...
Lukeh's not impressed, by the looks of Twitter.
As predictable as it is, I feel I should finish watching Angels & Demons
Maybe Ewan MacGregor [and his terrible N. Irish accent] will die soon
I usually only comment amongst friends (and family).
You shouldn't have bothered. It's terrible, even two Danish actors couldn't save it!
How is Arne the Washing Machine geek doing?
he isn't no..
He's holding up pretty well
BTW guys, this is how we all know the cold ruthless assassin in Angels and Demons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYrpdL7WYQo
I'm off to bed. See ya's all. lotsa love.
see ya!
night RG
Night.
Night RG!
Morning all. This being back at work thing is hard! I want to go home!
morning amy!
Morning Amy!
Not so much anymore
Ewan still hanging on in there though :(
Have you read the book BTW?
This would make a good scooby doo episode though
All but the newest, great in a trashy way
Exactly!
Am switching to non-exclusivity with this film
It'll pass quicker
And I would've done it too, if it wasn't for these pesky cardinals
Helicopters & parachutes, C'MON!
The book is even better - he uses the helicopter door as a parachute.
The whole Antimatter bomb idea is bunk science anyway!
I don't remember much of it, which is just as well
It would make the film even worse
Can't remember the last time I watched tripe as bad as this
So glad I haven't seen either of the Dan Brown films.
I loved both books and I can't stand both movies. They're just pedestrian.
I reckon you should read the books though.
"No, not naïve, innocent maybe"
Hel-lo!
Da Vinci film wasn't as bad as this
Books are fine, apart from the cryptology/arctic one. Didn't like that
The cryptology and the arctic one were a bit silly.
