Well hello dear Sidepodders!  Did you have a great Easter?  I sure did ;)  Sounds like the weather was good in a lot of places and people really took advantage of it.

Have you seen these cool F1-themed painted Easter Eggs? Speaking of which, Mark Webber got a massive Easter Egg!  Good job he normally takes lots of vitamins to keep fit ;)

There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of news in F1 – but that hasn’t stopped me finding loads of good links for you!

Mike Gascoyne has a new video discussing Team Lotus’ success in China, some planned upgrades in Turkey and Spain and the aim of finishing in the points from then onwards.  Hmm, nice to have lofty goals but it sounds like a bit of stretch to me…

Speaking of Lotus, today it will be announced in Duxford that Team Lotus will buy Caterham Cars – Metro F1 and Joe have posts on it.  Also if you can get down to Duxford you can attend the straight line test for free – and possibly meet the drivers!

Joe’s also written about the challenge of the new circuit in India of winning over the hearts and minds… apparently it’s like selling Cricket to the Italians! :D

Nico Rosberg has been interviewed by F1.com and delved into a bit of Fantasy.  I’m starting to warm to the lad...

McLaren are currently trucking it to Turkey – follow their progress here

The latest F1 Minute is about Robert Kubica’s return home from hospital.  Get well soon Robert!

Also, have you checked out Tweets of the Week and Christine’s Driver and Team Rankings yet?

Tony Stewart & Lewis Hamilton plan to swap race cars at some point.  Sounds exciting!

Here’s an interview with Mark Blundell chewing the fat about his career and what he’s been up to lately.  Top Geezer!

Ever wondered what’s under the skin of a race car?  Well wonder no more

In Sidepodspace, the countdown to the penultimate Shuttle launch has begun…

Remember Giorgio Pantano? Well just in case you forgot him, BadgerGP takes a look back at his career.

Anthony Davidson has managed to collect a model car of almost all of the cars he has driven in his career.  That’s nothing – Ralf Schumacher has the actual cars…

Lewis Hamilton has tried out a version of a PC racing sim called rFactor – quite a favourite of mine.  Wonder if he liked it?

Here’s a pic of Sebastian Vettel as a young lad sitting in an F1 car – he hasn’t changed much in 10 years apart from growing up, has he?

MartiV8 found a great Spanish website showing what was new in the F1 cars in Shanghai.  Great find – thanks Marti!

Here’s some pics from the Cahier archive of Sir Jackie Stewart – great shots!

How about an optimistic article about how Robert Wickens might end up being the Friday Driver for Virgin in Canada?  Also, it mentions that Marussia want to take over the team next year.  I wonder if that is true?

What’s in the blogs this week?

So that’s all from me.  Enjoy your day and I will see you in the comments!

just walked into the side of a door holding my macbook. I was so angry at myself until i realised my mac doesn't have a scratch on it, but the doorframe has a bit of a chunk missing.

  • Steven Roy26/04/2011 at 23:33

I love the link to those cutaway drawings. That is one of the things I miss about modern F1. With all the secret squirrel nonsense you don't get those any more. I used to love the start of an F1 season when someone would publish cutaways of the new cars.

Hmmm. The Malaysia race edit is up on F1.com now. With a different song. Looks like it was the song copyright that held it up.

hehe certainly feels like it. One of my uni projects is on people at the zoo. I've already been to a few but just need to do one more shoot and i should be all finished for that project. Lucky i have a whole year ticket really. *hugs my local zoos for it only costing £20* my legs do ache in anticipation for that walk again though..

The Caterham announcement is done then:

The acquisition by Tony Fernandes, Kamarudin Meranun and SM Nasarudin, the men behind the Team Lotus Formula 1 squad, from the shareholder consortium led by Corven Ventures, will see the legendary lightweight sportscar manufacturer expand its brand profile and product family.

The acquisition of Caterham Cars by Team Lotus Enterprise will not only signal the continued development of the legendary Seven, but will provide Caterham with the platform to apply its philosophy of ‘adding lightness’ to exciting new models for the 21st Century.

    Whatever that means! :)

  • Nick27/04/2011 at 10:16

So I just went for a run - which was interesting because I run around a fort, and I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Right at the finish a soldier carrying a rather large gun stopped me in my tracks and told me that I had to go with him.

I must admit I freaked out and asked him what I had done wrong - turns out all that he was doing was cordoning off an area because they were changing the guards, which included rifle checks. Rather exciting!

Just thinking, is this a parachute for Tony Fernandes so that regardless of the court case his team becomes CaterhamF1 and allows for Group Lotus to save face?

if f1 fans cared, gmm would cease to exist. so not in the slightest, nope.

    Q. What are your plans for getting the Caterham name involved in F1? Will there be branding on the car, a total team rename?

TF: I don't know yet, to be honest. I am waiting to see what happens with the case, and all these sort of things. But an ideal scenario would be a marriage of the two.

Assuming you mean you need a volunteer..

I did... I am unused to physical exercise... And so I am unsure I'm going to be able to make it tonight. Which is a bit rubbish as I didn't do my last one either but yes I think I probably need a volunteer.

    Volunteers can have cake though.

I found I had to move the mic really close to my mouth. The sensitivity seems much lower than any other time I use it. Normally I keep it above my mouth so I am not breathing or popping

Whilst we're talking about what people are doing and whatnot, Amanda let me know that she couldn't do Spanish Wednesday today and that it may be fortnightly or monthly for a while as she's super duper busy.

We'll need a new way for Mr C to tell what day it is.

i know, but if you have one with you anyhow, i kinda makes sense.

but most people would have a phone? smaller and easier to use? better quality too?

i'd probably move somewhere else. could be an issue, but no idea how you'd police it. you can't take someone's ipad from them can you?

agreed. the ipad is easier to hold steady i suppose.

The crowd will police it for you. Maybe ok at a small gig but you'd look a prat holding that up there.

An iPad at a gig only makes sense to me if you are working there, performing or a journo or PR or something. If you're a punter you're asking for it to be smashed on the floor, accidentally or not

they did? are they allowed to and how did you get it back?

  • lou27/04/2011 at 21:12

they did? are they allowed to and how did you get it back?

i got told that i couldn't go in until i put them in the cloakroom. I wasn't happy. the only reason i had them with me was because i'd come from a shoot straight to the gig. The lady escorted me to the cloakroom thing and gave me a ticket. I was so so angry with them and made sure i had someone to tell me that if anything happened to it i could hold them responsible. I didn't leave until i'd checked the camera after the gig just in case.

  • Alison27/04/2011 at 21:13

They can. Basically by purchasing a ticket, you agree to their terms. If you don't like them, I'm sure you'd be allowed to leave instead....

There will be a list of rules somewhere. It's just that people never read them. You expect them to email you in advance with a list of "no glass bottles, all men must wear shirts...."

Staff tell you to put it away or get out and you choose.... I worked in a cinema for a year. You can ask people to leave your premises if they won't keep to your rules.

  • Steven Roy27/04/2011 at 21:26

oh. is it pain then. can't say camera people have ever bugged me.

They bug me constantly at anything to do with motor racing. People with cameras behave like they own the place. I have lost count of the times I have found a good viewing spot only for someone to stick a camera two inches from my nose and then get upset when I explain that I don't like their behaviour. There should be camera free zones at circuits

Have to agree with F1 meetings though (and certain parts of circuits at other meetings) - there just isn't room for people to be tracking cars if everybody is stood elbow to elbow but does it stop some people?

It's therefore perfectly acceptable at Turkey

It is difficult to get a spot without fences in the way. People can be pretty rude about it though.

There's an app for it on my PDA (in case turning on the installed backlight when on a blank Word document isn't enough), so I'd think there'd be one for an iPad.

  • Maverick27/04/2011 at 21:36

Which corners at Oulton were you photographing?

Clay Hill is great because you're very close to and above the track - so no fences in the way

Inside of Druids and Lodge are pretty good too

  • Steven Roy27/04/2011 at 21:42

You won't get down to the hairpin that way. Unless they totally close off the short circuit

Meat Loaf had a good way of dealing with photographic gadgets. Halfway through one gig I attended, he said to the crowd something along the lines of "If you want to photograph me you're about to get an opportunity to do so. Otherwise please keep them in your bags because you'll j and annoy people. Including me." All of the lights (as opposed to just the stage lighting) were then turned up to maximum for a couple of moments, after which he carried on like nothing had happened.

There was a sudden reduction in camera-based annoyances after that. Pity the off-key drunken singing from three rows behind me was more difficult to solve...

I saw your twitpics and it made me very jealous. 4hrs each way was too far for just F3/GT though. Am strongly tempted by Donington Historic on Sunday (or Thruxton BTCC also Sunday, which is much nearer but not as interesting).

The comedy sketch that needs to be made is Will and Kate sitting down and trimming their wedding budget in light of the economy.

Kate: "How would you feel if we cut the guest list from 5,000 to 4,500."

Will: "I don't think my family would be happy with that but do we really need $4.5 million open horse carriage processional route. Can't we just get some limos for $2.7 million?"
