It's been a rough weekend in Sidepodcast Towers what with The Case of the Disappearing Doohickey, and Mr C's Illness: The Return. However, we're into a new week so things must be looking up already. Here's what we're talking about at the moment:

  • Luca di Montezemolo has made a point of saying that Michael Schumacher remains as a consultant for Ferrari, but that's all he is. He has no responsible role. This is a direct response to all the criticism recently regarding tyre choices attributed to the multi-world champion. I'm still curious what a consultant does, though.
  • The big talk of the weekend is Formula 1's journey into space, as Niki Lauda wants to train up to be a space pilot on Virgin Galactic's flights. Barrichello has also paid for a ticket to space - presumably not with Lauda at the wheel? Virign certainly are making their impact on the sport already, aren't they?
  • The Sunday Times rich list has seen Bernie Ecclestone fall down to 24th, but he still has an estimated worth of £1,466 million. Things aren't that tough just yet then. There are tons of F1 related people in the list, including Ron Dennis, Flav, DC, Button and Hamilton. There'a good summary here.

That's it for now. Please keep on chatting, about these or other topics that might be on your mind. I will see you in the comments.

One thing about LCLT - I have to repost links that haven't been discussed yet. ;)

A great find courtesy of Keith and F1F.

Luca di Montezemolo has made a point of saying that Michael Schumacher remains as a consultant for Ferrari, but that’s all he is.

I'm thinking if that has an alternative meaning - he's only a consultant, so he serves at Ferrari's pleasure. LDM can sack him if and when he wants to. Then again, would he really want Schumi's technical expertise to float off to Brackley, for that's surely where Schumi would offer his services if Ferrari let him go.

The Sunday Times rich list has seen Bernie Ecclestone fall down to 24th

Considering how much he had to pay out to Slavica, I'm surprised this hasn't been in the news more. It got me thinking though - did they really divorce and move apart? Or are Bernie and Slavica doing it for a more... financial-minded... reason?

    Such as?

  • Journeyer27/04/2009 at 07:55

    Such as?

To protect their wealth, especially if, say, Bernie got sued for one reason or another. They could take away Bernie's wealth, but not Slavica's.

  • Christine27/04/2009 at 07:56

To protect their wealth, especially if, say, Bernie got sued for one reason or another. They could take away Bernie’s wealth, but not Slavica’s.

Anything is possible, I suppose. Especially where Bernie is concerned.

  • Journeyer27/04/2009 at 07:58

It's not likely, but it's possible. I mean, why would Slavica divorce Bernie at such an age? I guess she could remarry to someone just as rich as Bernie, but younger. Even so, a very odd thing to do at her age.

  • Alex Andronov27/04/2009 at 08:01

I would like to say that after going out in my hat yesterday afternoon. I was able to find somewhere serving a bowl of nachos. So I did eat nachos while wearing my hat. That was the closest I could get to it.

Sadly live commenting isn't really possible at the mo :( For understandable reasons hence the update now :)

Not necessarily. Relationships change at all ages.

  • Journeyer27/04/2009 at 08:07

Not necessarily. Relationships change at all ages.

A matter of culture, I guess. Over here, people rarely divorce at old age - even if things aren't working out so well, they just let things lay. The thinking here is - who else will be with you as you grow old?

  • Journeyer27/04/2009 at 08:08

    Gooooood morning.

I'm annoyed at BAT right now. I specifically set my tyres for qually as softs and what does it send me out on? Inters! Grrr!

Agreed. Lots of water will also be VERY helpful. Any liquids, for that matter.

I agree with Journeyer - a consultant is someone you can publicly disagree with and ignore when it suits you politically or for public relations “situations”.

The team haven't actually mentioned yet what Schumacher has contributed to the team, as well as if it's anything of significance. One must wonder what kind of voice Schumacher really has on the pitwall. Therefore, it's hard to assess if he's a benefit or a hindrance to the team.

Did you all enjoy the race yesterday? Sorry I missed it - I went and saw a massive Oil Rig which was really interesting - Discovery Channel stuff!

I quite enjoyed the race - good overtaking, masterful use of strategy by Brawn. It felt like Toyota lost the race which I was a little sad about, and I must admit they did overplay the 'Ferrari in crisis' stuff. BBC had a good race and Legard did OK too :)

I thought it was great, myself and Dad thought it was the best race of the season. Great to see Jenson celebrate a win that wasn't compromised by a safety car or rain. He looked really happy :D

Hi, Gavin. Nope, doesn’t look like it.

I don't think it'll be back anytime soon, if at all. Definitely not while Mr C is recuperating. And even then, he's probably going to either redesign the doohickey, or create a new tool altogether.

The first few laps were amazing, and I really enjoyed watching Trulli's strategy unfold - holding everyone else up and then coming back at them on the right tyres.

I could quite easily have fallen asleep during the second half though.

Don't be too Piquet, or else you'll become a pain in the Flavio. :D

Great to see Jenson celebrate a win that wasn’t compromised by a safety car or rain.

Even in an era where more emphasis is placed on racing, strategy still plays a huge role - for this year, at least.

The first few laps were amazing, and I really enjoyed watching Trulli’s strategy unfold - holding everyone else up and then coming back at them on the right tyres.

I was thinking that when I saw him. Shame Glock couldn't stay ahead - I think Toyota made a mistake swapping over GLock & Trulli in the first pitstop because they could have let GLock drive off and allow Trulli to form a train behind him. That may have allowed GLock to win...?

  • Amy27/04/2009 at 09:43

I agree with Christine, towards the end I started hoping for some retirements or at least a couple of spins or off road excursions to make it a little more interesting

  • Journeyer27/04/2009 at 09:43

Ferrari, you silly billys for letting him go!

I wonder what LDM was thinking as he was peering though the gap in the pitwall towards the end of the race... all while Ross was happily munching away on a banana at the other end of the pitlane.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)27/04/2009 at 09:44

I could quite easily have fallen asleep during the second half though.

Not sure if swapping them at the first stops was intentional. Glock did pit first, after all. It's just that he many not have been able to build a sufficient enough gap to stay ahead of the peloton, whereas Trulli managed to since he had more time.

    How'd you do?

  • Scott Woodwiss27/04/2009 at 10:02

Sid Watkins thought he’d be at least unconscious, but he was perfectly fine. Mind you, if it weren’t for that incident, we might not have discovered the prodigy that is Sebastian Vettel.

    True! :D

  • Scott Woodwiss27/04/2009 at 10:05

Wow, just noticed we made nearly 2,500 comments in yesterday's race thread.

  • me27/04/2009 at 10:32

One thing about LCLT - I have to repost links that haven’t been discussed yet.

    not sure i understand?

Coping with LCLT is the only way at this point.

i'm home today, still recovering so i can at least think about doohickey.

I think the first comment on this thread is a repeat of the last one on yesterdays daily. I guess in the doohickey you would have seen yesterdays if it was in the last 20.

    Which bit?

  • me27/04/2009 at 10:43

    Which bit?

well. if you were to re-read this thread in 6 months time, the conversation will still make sense. because journeyer has repeated his link and then the conversartion continues.

the problem with doohickey is, people read the last 20 comments and just pick up the conversation. even though sometimes that's jumped threads.

re-read a doohickey based conversation in 6 months time and it'll likely be impossible to follow.

  • Christine27/04/2009 at 10:44

The thing is, do we come here to talk or do we come here to follow a thread? Are we a chatroom, a newsgroup, a forum or something else?

    good question.

the site is inherantly thread based. and every day christine writes a new thread.

i guess doohickey is too much like an un-threaded chat room.

  • me27/04/2009 at 10:49

I don’t know what its intended to be, but I think it’s a mix of all of that, and that’s why I like it so much.

    Aren't they just labels?

I see it as a blog, and when off-topic became a problem, I started a daily thread. The conversation should definitely be able to be looked back on because... let's face it, it's impossible to keep people out of the archives.

also. if people can't look back and make sense of a daily thread, there really is no point in keeping it.

I think the problem stemmed from the fact there were something like 4 or 5 threads open on saturday - a daily, aside, qualy, and I think one other so it would have been difficult to follow any thread TBH.

Perhaps comments should only be allowed in the daily thread?

That's a good point. Perhaps we should be reading blog posts in static format - but then that defeats the point of live commenting. I like to see the posts as they come in, but I have no idea who might be commenting on the race in another thread?

  • Dank27/04/2009 at 10:59

Barrichello's website was attacked by a bunch of geeky hackers following yesterday's race. Rubbish Google translation coming up: click here!

They make reference to him being a 'slow turtle' and it is thought they're unhappy that Senna didn't get the Brawn drive this season.

  • Bassano Clapper27/04/2009 at 10:59

But when specifically asked to post race comments in a particular thread, say for a debrief show, we should probably refrain from talking about the weather, for 300 lines or so

one other problem i can't get my head around. is what to do when the daily thread moves forward to the next day.

  • Alex Andronov27/04/2009 at 11:03

There was a strange thing happening more recently with the doohicky which is that people were saying, "quick lets go back to the daily thread so people don't get cross" which was leaving half of the conversation on each thread.

I do wonder if... And this is quite radical... and I have no idea how you would do this in the back end Mr C...

Non daily posts have comments which are to do with the thing...

And the Daily posts have a single continuum of comments.

So when you go to a daily post the doohicky is there at the bottom of the page automatically instead of the comments box.

    Or something.

anyone catching up on comments can drop a thought into an old daily thread and a couple of replies later, you’ve jumped back a day without noticing.

Well that's fine. If the conversation happens there, why not? We get comments on old threads all the time, and it's never really been a problem before.

The way I see it the two problems are:

    1) Commenting in the wrong place.

    2) Cross commenting.

I don't see why time has anything to do with it.

  • me27/04/2009 at 11:08

Moved after posting in wrong thread:

Doohickey may not be perfect, but it makes a huge difference to how easy conversation is to follow. Personally, I'm inclined to keep it regardless of its flaws, but if you absolutely insist on changing it, it should be rewitten so that it follows one specific thread at a time... i.e. a doohickey link in the daily thread, a separate doohickey in the race's thread etc.

  • Bassano Clapper27/04/2009 at 11:10

Unless he’s been to Mexico recently, I highly doubt it’s swine flu.

In my head, the doohickey would look the same but allow comments only on daily threads. Comments on other threads would lead you to reply in a new tab or something.

Then the live commenting improvements that I know are coming would replace the doohickey for races and podcasting.

  • Bassano Clapper27/04/2009 at 11:12

At 2am, a Vista like virtual slap appears and says: "are you sure you want to post in a previous daily thread" - activated only when the new daily thread arrives

Same, I used doohickey for normal days and lclt for debriefs and qualy/races.

I've always been ambidextrous when it comes to IT - I never prefer one system to another and I have found that I can adapt quite easily. So here I am using doohickey :)

Mr. C. and Christine, it would be interesting to know how many threads are being commented in today as opposed to last week? Does lclt 'force' us into sticking with one thread or are people still posting in others?

  • me27/04/2009 at 11:19

Compared to the mess we saw this weekend? I think that is the smallest possible problem we could have.

i disagree. it was a daily vs. daily problem that originally highlighted the issue for me.

we were on something like the 18th of the month and half the daily convo was happening in that thread, whilst a seperate half was kicking off in one from the 16th. it was just a massive mess.

  • Kris27/04/2009 at 11:19

I preferred the Doohickey if I'm honest but I can easily live with the LCLT. I don't want to sound like a moaning old ninny but the old flaw I have with it is that it's really thin, I like my commentajiggies to be wiiiiide :P

Although I think you mentioned before that you were looking at that... so this is a bit void for me to be bringing it up I suppose. But I'e said it before, as long as you guys are happy with whatever otucome comes with the doohickey, then it's best you take your time to find a working solution.

  • me27/04/2009 at 11:24

    Has that happened often?

more and more often, sadly. this weekend was maybe the third or forth time. but it's getting more rather than less frequent.

  • Bassano Clapper27/04/2009 at 11:27

    Ok, I'm off to work

Mr C, I got a large chunk of my Flickr stuff done last night before I hit the free limit, will upgrade soon but it's here if you're interested [or anyone else for that matter]

  • me27/04/2009 at 11:28

I loved the doohickey but I’ve adapted already. I’m easily pleased. Although at the moment I can read from the LCLT but not post from it. I don’t have much to say though so it’s OK

lclt is old and a bit rubbish, but i can't can be fixed with a bit of tlc.

doohickey on the other hand, is just a pain in the bum.

  • Christine27/04/2009 at 11:28

Okay, so, new doohickey in my head :)

You select which thread you want, just like the LCLT, but you still see the other comments coming in, and any that are for a thread you didn't pick become 'clickaway to a new tab' ones.

  • me27/04/2009 at 11:28

You select which thread you want, just like the LCLT, but you still see the other comments coming in, and any that are for a thread you didn’t pick become ‘clickaway to a new tab’ ones.

I was thinking of something similar to that - just an LCLT but without a commenting option. But that's just my opinion.

  • Bassano Clapper27/04/2009 at 11:30

You select which thread you want, just like the LCLT, but you still see the other comments coming in, and any that are for a thread you didn’t pick become ‘clickaway to a new tab’ ones.

    That's a great idea

  • Kris27/04/2009 at 11:30

Theres also a bandwidth concern... Even this relatively small daily comments thread has already hit 140k, every time every user refreshes to see the new comments, thats another 140k burned.

If someone's browser decides it wants the JS and images again (which happens more often than I'd like) thats another 400k too. Thats soon gonna mount up.

  • Bassano Clapper27/04/2009 at 11:31

    JS?

If someone’s browser decides it wants the JS and images again (which happens more often than I’d like) thats another 400k too. Thats soon gonna mount up.

good point. doohickey uses 2kb of bandwidth when there are no comments, and that's about it.

in short, lclt isn’t very good for moblies.

When I had to do with internet on my mobile (along with my mum's laptop and the library), I never attempted commenting. Always did it from a computer. But yes, as Gavin's just said, a "mobile LCLT" would be rather cool.

blech. For some reason, HSR completely passed me by...?

  • Alex Andronov27/04/2009 at 11:44

    Taking Christine's version slightly differently...

How about you select a thread at the top in the drop down... All comments on that thread are white and have comment boxes... All comments on other threads are gray. And you have to swap to that thread by changing the drop down.

The drop down doesn't need to detect new threads as they are added... But shows you a list of all of the threads that you have seen comments from. So first comment on new thread "Go Lewis/Sutil/whoever" adds a new option to the drop down but doesn't select it.

    Or something?

  • Alianora La Canta27/04/2009 at 11:50

    The conversation should definitely be able to be looked back on because… let’s face it, it’s impossible to keep people out of the archives. {Comment #106}

Especially since I've just got round to doing my entry on the F1 Bloggers and Friends Karting Competition and ended up referencing several threads from Sidepodcast in the write-up...

Yes, I am behind on my writing schedule.

  • Alianora La Canta27/04/2009 at 11:53

    The thing is, do we come here to talk or do we come here to follow a thread? Are we a chatroom, a newsgroup, a forum or something else? {Comment #99}

We're a blog. More importantly, we're also ourselves - which makes all the difference between here and other places :) and is why we have this identity problem. None of the traditional ways of blogging suit us, so we make our own and make them fit what we want to become.

    I think...

    Barrichello’s website was attacked by a bunch of geeky hackers following yesterday’s race. {Comment #117}

If she'd had an opportunity to spot the cyclist before it pulled in front, aka if they were on the pavement with no parked cars in the way, then yes I can understand why. But if not, then that is one harsh fail and I would have literally let rip at the guy for it.

A racing seat for the rFactor rig?

I saw this on Twitter yesterday:

Ridiculously, if region-locked content can't tell where you are, rather than keeping you locked out, it just assumes you're i the right place and lets you view it.

Not to mention Jacky Ickx is a tintop LEGEND.

In-Car 956 (not a snappy title, I know) is also worth seeking out. There's a marvellous moment when Del Bell is doing in-car commentary live and clearly pushing on a bit – Ickx comes blasting past and DB is clearly taken aback.

  • Steven Roy27/04/2009 at 16:45

Exactly what I meant. How are you supposed to prepare for a cyclist coming out of an alley when you don’t even know they’re there?!

Simple Scott. You see there is an alley and consider that someone could come out of it and approach it cautiously. It's like people who say a car shot out of a side road. The road exists for one reason to connect with the one you are on. It exists for traffic to switch from your road to it or vice versa. An alley exists for people to enter or exit it on to the road. So it should not be unexpected when that happens

this blog reminds me that I don’t want to go to China

Reminds me I don’t want to go back to china. I went in 2005 it was awful.

I like this story from the site:

Had a wander around the display stalls between practice sessions and ended up at the Lenovo stand. A Chinese promo girl who was stood in front of a whiteboard with a picture of Lewis Hamil...ton, handed me a marker pen and read from her prompt card. “Write down the first thing which comes into your mind when you look at the picture”. OK..... I was about to scrawl Liar and Cheat across the board but was distracted by a very pretty and innocent looking Chinese girl who was writing. “F**k you Ham” across the board. The promo girl clearly spoke or read no English as she thanked this girl profusely for “writing down what’s on your mind” and handed the marker pen to the next person who wrote “Hamilton Despicable” across the bottom of the board. ... Incidently, by the Saturday, the girl with the marker pen had gone, all the obscenities were scribbled out and there was a guard to ensure nothing else was added to the white board. Spoilsports.

  • Journeyer27/04/2009 at 17:02

But she wrote that before China. If KL came after China, she'd have been much more positive. ;)

Already got his, but another won't hurt ;) Closer to the time I'll have to bug you about grandstand recommendations, because I know I'll forget. I'm buying my Melbourne tickets on Friday though :D

  • Nathan27/04/2009 at 17:04

shes very negative on KL as well, I want to go there next year.

Well I love KL. Flew Air Asia from Thailand about $20 Tune hotel clean, comfortable but small $4 per night. Food is great shopping is fantastic. F1 venue very nice and easy to get to.

The cheap prices are what is attracting me, it cost me far too much to go to Singapore last year and as much as I'd like to go back, I also like being able to afford to eat and pay my rent.

Agreed, agreed. Did you take the KLIA Transit package?

BTW, did you have any problems leaving the circuit? Especially when the heavens opened on Saturday night?

Best to stay in Johor Bahru if you go to Singapore GP Malay prices and just a short trip to the Singapore MRT

...if you bear the human crunch at the MRT, especially at the end of each day. Personally, I was ecstatic I just had to walk to my hotel rather than put my girlfriend and myself through that.

Well yes we took the KLIA transit package pretty quick transfer by train! On the Saturday we waited for 1hr30 for a shuttle bus in the Thunderstorm 1 umbrella 4 people my son is 4 years old and was really freezing. We were lucky to stop a taxi or we could have been there all night.

Sunday night I was so glad to be staying within walking distance after they stopped people from entering City Hall station.

Very lucky to find a taxi in that kind of downpour... did they rip you off for their fare?

Sunday night I was so glad to be staying within walking distance after they stopped people from entering City Hall station.

We actually decided to avoid that entrance on Sunday night, after we got stuck in the pedestrian underpass for 30 minutes on Saturday night. We went out through the Padang entrance instead.

I had no idea that they had to stop people altogether from entering City Hall station.

We had no problem with the MRT especially race day as we stayed for the Wailers concert

Maybe that's why you didn't have problems with it. I wasn't all that thrilled with last year's acts. With the FOM-Universal deal this year, though, that will probably change...

From Journeyers blog post "We got the less extravagant ‘one-bus-fits-all’ option. My dad asked how one bus could be a parade"

In Bahrain the parade was taking the drivers onto the startfinish straight so everyone could see them on the bigscreen monitors then asking a few questions. No parade at all!!

I’ve chatted to Allan McNish at Autosport about the R10 and how the Peugeots looked for Le Mans, and Sato about his chances for 2007 in the Super Aguri. ‘Twas rather good

I’ve spoke to Matt Neal. And erm, Harry Vaulkhard, and the other one that drove for Robertshaw Racing last year

I spoke to a bored Alfa Touring car driver called Giampiero Simoni in Italian (it was his turn to sign autographs). His face perked up and we had a great little chat. Smashing bloke!

And there's the Ayrton Senna stopped right in front of me moment.

That's probably a good argument to get rid of KERS. I know Williams aren't running their flywheel system but look what it's making the drivers do. It's turning them into skinny things and as you saw in the pictures, it's making them start to look unhealthy and even faint because of the heat a la Alonso. All because they want to nullify the weight disadvantage that KERS brings. Before you know it, we'll get reports of an N. Grebsor checking into Annorexics Anonymous.

I see it as a blog, and when off-topic became a problem, I started a daily thread. The conversation should definitely be able to be looked back on because… let’s face it, it’s impossible to keep people out of the archives.

also. if people can’t look back and make sense of a daily thread, there really is no point in keeping it.

Disagree. Does it matter if it retains relevance in six months? I can't imagine many people will be checking. SPC is all about what's going on now.

    yes. very much so.

in part because we frequently search and retrieve old comments, and it's important that they retain context. also, because we plan to do more with comment searching in the future.

    http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/

Mr C convinced me, I found it is just really helpful, publishes straight to the blog, loads of options

Hmm.. will take a look at this. Every 'Windows Live...' product I've used so far has been an absolute mess so this may turn the tide

Hahaha, windows, you are funny. It originally told me that i couldnt install LiveWriter because the 'current installation is corrupt' - I don't even have it installed :D

    Working fine now though installationwise.

Comes with the new Windows Live Messenger I believe.

I've seen the website but what is it? A better blog editor than the one offered with blogger for example?

    Live Writer is awesome.

    5 Pints of Awesome? :)

  • littlepurplegoth27/04/2009 at 18:47

Going back in time but... the doohickey suggestions are only going to work if the doohickey works on your computer. Yes I've played, and spent time trying to sort it all, including trying other browsers but it doesn't like it (and after a days poddling around I have other things to spend my computer time on!)

OK, so this laptop is clunky and runs XP, but it isn't actually 'out of date' as such, but the doohickey refuses to work...

I like the lclt, but generally I read and post on the actual threads only. I don't think I'm the only one...

On the plus - DS always feels better for RTRC as well :-)

(but then I'm also quite happy to sustain and follow a conversation over several different posts/threads and think that its good brain exercise to do so roflrofl)

  • Scott Woodwiss27/04/2009 at 18:48

Wow, this WLW is awesome! It's like I'm writing a blog post by just pressing a button and doing it on the front page instead (if that makes any sense). All my fonts and text sizes are there ready and waiting. It's brilliant!

So is this what you guys use for the posts on here then? ;)

  • Christine27/04/2009 at 18:48

    5 Pints of Awesome?

    Maybe just 4.

  • Nathan27/04/2009 at 18:48

Bernd Maylander was awesome too! He took out the safety car so everyone could have a good look at it. He was nice enough to stay around and have a chat with me.

RG I wish I was going to the next race. My next one will be Singapore Im afraid. I'm back to the pub on the weekend for the next 6 months I guess.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)27/04/2009 at 18:50

  • Scott Woodwiss27/04/2009 at 18:50

Bah, that's not good then. But still, makes it really simple for me to write new posts :D

Quote of the weekemd was when I met Alonso he just got dropped off for the autograph signings and he came over to shake hands with the fans. After I shook hands and said good luck my mum said "who is he?" I've been laughing ever since she has been to 5 Grand prix already

Seems to be like all recent app websites, it is very very vague and completely hopeless at explaining what it does. You only know what it is when you use it. I may try it later, or later in the week. But right now I'm struggling to see what the fuss is about. Mind you I said the same about Twitter.

rofl - maybe that's the problem - not enough exterraneous 'stuff' running in the background pmsl.

Maybe I just need a downday and try it all again... but then again, we used to have a printer I called 'the other woman' because it would do anything for Andy, and refuse to work more than 10% of the time for me - and that was in the days (dim, distant past erk!) when we had but one computer between us....

Now... how could this be applied to racing cars? teehee

He used to be a pundit back in the early days of the ITV coverage. Best known for being sea-sick on the yacht that they used one year at Monaco. I think he's written some books too. Doctor Vee mentions him in his article about the ITV years.

  • Andy Taylor27/04/2009 at 20:59

Don't tell anyone but I'm testing out a secret doohickey.

Now that's a gaffe of RG proportions. You'l have to tell us about it now. Or sing YMCA.

  • Scott Woodwiss27/04/2009 at 20:59

Did Christine make a comment just then?

Is it all black and covered in odd-shaped white stickers to disguise the changes? ;)

  • RG27/04/2009 at 20:59

Why am I in the same sentance as gaffe and proportions? with of in between

I was merely comparing Christine's last post with your propensity to divulge information that might be better kept to yourself.

  • RG27/04/2009 at 21:04

    shh, don't tell anyone:

Looking at it. Could it cause people using it for the first time to forget about that and post in the latest thingy, so that it might not be a daily?

  • RG27/04/2009 at 21:04

I was merely comparing Christine's last post with your propensity to divulge information that might be better kept to yourself.

    Aaah, fair enough then.

  • Scott Woodwiss27/04/2009 at 21:05

Ah, I get it - so you select a thread from the drop down menu and then comment, yes?

    Awesome!!

not quite, drop.io integration is currently being worked on. should be an hour or so.

  • Christine27/04/2009 at 21:06

Ah, I get it - so you select a thread from the drop down menu and then comment, yes?

Exactly that. Reply on a thread not selected should be greyed out.

Great. Nice to see my ideas being implemented then ;)

  • Pat W27/04/2009 at 21:06

That was remarkably quick work MrC... unless it just seems so because I only read the conversation 2 hours ago... but anyway, impressive stuff. It's exactly how I imagined it when I read it explained.

We really have to give massive credit and thanks to Mr C for producing this "upgraded" Doohickey while still rather ill. He didn't have to do it but he has and I'm sure you'll all agree when I say that he is simply brilliant, and we appreciates it very much. Thank you! :)

tbh, it was a case of not knowing how to do it. until this afternoon's conversation i was clueless of where to start. implementing a solution is relatively easy. knowing the direction is the big problem.

Its the latest version of firefox

  • Jackie27/04/2009 at 21:23

I'll relaunch the new doohickey see if that solves it

Doohickey and Lclt both worked fine for me most times in FF2 and FF3, LPG. But there was times when neither worked at all, but I'd blame that mostly on my crappy internet.

Apart from getting you to use a proper browser :)

  • Steven Roy27/04/2009 at 21:50

One thing worth thinking about on the KERS / driver weight discussion from earlier. It is important to remember that the real culprit in this is not KERS or the weigh limit but the tyre spec. The front tyres are too wide compared to the rears so teams have to move weight forward to maximise performance. Had the FIA specced the tyres properly or switched to the 2010 spec which Bridgestone want to test soon there would be no problem with drivers putting on weight.

  • Steven Roy27/04/2009 at 21:51

    Quick comment test.

  • littlepurplegoth27/04/2009 at 21:51

That isn't fair - I've tried using firefox before without anything doing anything except that message in the little yellow box...frrrrrrttttt!!

  • Steven Roy27/04/2009 at 21:56

    wow that's impressive

50% of the comments are this year which is insane

    that's even more impressive

  • Steven Roy27/04/2009 at 21:57

I see on th newhickey that if you click reply it stops new posts coming in as before but if you click quick comment the comments keep coming in.

  • littlepurplegoth27/04/2009 at 21:58

I've heard of girlpower but biscuitpower? ;)

    Lol.

Although when he noticed that reply the biscuits were very smartly moved! I wasn't going to eat any of them anyway teehee.

Although this is the point where I give up on the PC and wander bedwards with a book instead to see if I can shut down the round in circles brain that is keeping me awake and attempt to redress the serious sleep deficit that the last couple of weeks have wrought!

Good night then LPG, sleep well. I should try that myself as well since I don't sleep well

  • me27/04/2009 at 21:59

    oops. i fix.

or should i. actually, that isn't a problem, is it?

  • Jackie27/04/2009 at 22:01

or should i. actually, that isn't a problem, is it?

I wouldn't have thought it's a problem, users have a choice. Personally I like the option of slowing things down when the comments come very fast

  • me27/04/2009 at 22:01

    night lpg.

  • Lukeh27/04/2009 at 22:02

or should i. actually, that isn't a problem, is it?

was about to say, i quite like it like that personally...

  • Steven Roy27/04/2009 at 22:02

or should i. actually, that isn't a problem, is it?

Not necessarily. Just an observation. Like a few others if I am on another tab I click reply and that holds new comments till I come back. I then click on th new posts black square thing and that loads them but because the reply boc is open it is easy to find where I was. The last time I clicked the quick comment button and it didn't work so I won't do it again.

  • me27/04/2009 at 22:03

was about to say, i quite like it like that personally...

the reason it pauses on a reply, is so that the page doesn't jump around. with the quick comment being fixed, it would probably be an overkill.

On a musical note, here's a song that Chris Evans showed me:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAtXKS9ZxvM

Wasn't a big fan at first, but love it now. Gonna acquire an album by these guys, might become a fan. Even if I don't like the album much, thanks very much to Chris for a brilliant song. Watch the video too if you can, I saw the Making Of bit for it and wow, amazing.

  • Joe27/04/2009 at 22:20

Argh, why can't people rip music at 192 kbs max. Having 10MB for a 4 or 5 minute song is crazy.
