It is both qualifying day and Franck day today, as there is the small matter of a Petit Le Mans race to attend to later. Before that though, I am looking forward to my first lie in for a while. How are you guys spending your weekend? Here are some things to discuss if you're bored:
- We put up the last in our current batch of Interviews with Bloggers yesterday, this time with Maverick from Pitlane Fanatic. Don't forget to submit your answers if you're an F1 blogger and want to have a go. There's also an F1 Digest if you're interested in what happened out on track yesterday, and in non-F1 news, there's also a new Media Future Change podcast to listen to.
- We finally finished the 100 Reasons to Watch F1 list, with lots and lots of help from you guys out there. I think I only completed two in the end. Very good! Read the full list here, plus a blog post on the subject. I will get on and add my £10 to the donations list then.
- If you participate in the Sofa F1 Pole Poll, don't forget to submit your predictions for the upcoming weekend. Mr C likes to leave it to the last minute, because he has turned into some kind of competitive crazy person. The rest of us can just treat as a bit of fun, as per usual.
That'll do it for now. There'll be plenty more in the way of live commenting threads and podcasts today, plus we'll put up the poll for the Sidepodradio charity selection as well. I will see you in the comments.
*waves from new daily* Hello all, have consumed a large amount of Guinness for the second night in a row. Hope we are all OK
Goodnight. Doohickey playing up is my cue to hit the sack.
Sleep well...see you for FP3 tomorrow!
Night!!
Just to ask - did you guys get my Petit Le Mans guest post OK? :P
Hi Janna
I see we're all playing a game. I'm rubbish at that sort of thing when sober let alone now ;)
It is a very addictive game Christine mentioned in her blog
I saw it on the blog, it looks like you're all having fun with it
Darn!! There was a drunk person in teh court yard trying to be spider man, i was trying to ustream is, but he'd gone by the time i'd sorted it!
Sometimes it's fun and sometimes it's torture
Level 18 being one of the torture ones?
if anyone is bored or fancies looking at random photos, i've just uploaded the photos from the coldplay gig i went to on saturday onto my flickr if you fancy having a look.
Yes.
(not here)
Changed my mind, easier than initially thought.
Oops I confused 18 with 19 :P
still not here.
Am off to sleep, see you all for fp3! Night x
niiiight!
I'm off too. See ya!
You saw Coldplay and never mentioned it. :D
Night all who are leaving
Bernie could be in trouble with his bosses...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/formulaone/article-1216183/Hes-lost-Blast-Bernie-Ecclestone-boss-warns-Youre-totally-touch.html
I'm off to sleep! (potentially without ear plugs for the first time this week), but before i depart i shall leave you with a few classic lines that my girlfriend has just spouted...
"I'm not Gollum"
"If someone says nothing is impossible, they obviously haven't tried nailing jelly to a tree"
"As things get older they get better, accept Banana's"
Night ;)
I hope you told her to put it in a bag, and nail the bag to a tree..
Night!
The man has a good point
Night Jon & Night all, am too inebriated to stay up & comment, best I sleep now & see you in the comments later.
Night Janna and everyone else who left while i was snoozing...
...Back to the blog
I also seem to be too sleepy to post in the proper thread.....
Night lou, jon, and janna
Good
Hello everyone. Back after another busy week. Trying to catch up on some blogging and stuff. What is going on?
Not surprised. Sir Martin and JYS are close friends, and they probably have a pretty similar viewpoint on things.
Morning, everyone.
Renault have lost their sponsors, we still dont know what Alonso is doing, and Sauber will user ferrari engines if they race next year.
And i am wriiting a stupidly long blog entry. 2,400 words with 3 teams to go.
Hello all SPCers
http://twitpic.com/j4ora
Not a bad pair of runarounds to have in your garage!
Evening!
@Steve Roy: I got to meet Dr. Schmitt of Apollo 17 fame two days ago. A really interesting and nice guy. He spoke a lot about trying to get the American space program back on track, what made the space program work, and the moon as a source of alternative energy. If you are really bored and want to her what he says, here is a link to the state public affairs channel that was at the event. He starts in at 05:40. LINK: http://www.tvw.org/media/mediaplayer.cfm?evid=2009090028&TYPE=V&CFID=968913&CFTOKEN=26606047&bhcp=1
Amazing. They care about more than just money?
Isn't Sir Martin a former bigwig at Ford Europe? I heard his name a couple of times during the Stewart-Ford and Jaguar eras.
Thanks for this Dan.
First Max's revenge, now Jackie's.... I wonder if F1 will ever run out of scores to be settled?
He runs a company called Magma or something like that. It tried to buy Rover I think. I am not certain but I know they tried to buy a few companies.
So the big motoring execs have finally had enough. It's about time. Seems the Renault guys have worked out they were asleep on the watch as well.
It probably will - the previous generation of F1 bigwigs is beginning to bowing out (Ron, Max, Flav - I count the new FIA president as the new generation even if its Todt). The only folks of the old guard left are Frank, Patrick, LDM, and Bernie.
We are looking at organising a sidepodcast onlie poker tournament. If anyone is interested put your name on the wiki page
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodcast+Poker+Tournament
I tried to get his autograph for you but he declined for a bunch of really good reasons which are too long to write out.
Also, I shot this photo of him which I cannot wait to use in the next issue of our chamber magazine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/awborg/3948394088/
Magna? Rings a bell.
They just bought GM europe
I'm in.
Love the headlines: "He's lost it! Blast for Bernie Ecclestone as boss warns: You're totally out of touch"
I think that everyone in the world but Bernie has realized that for the last 10 years.
But he's still there...
Being an old rich guy who owns something will let you get away with a lot more than most.
I can understand him not wantig to sign things
Surely he's got to retire at some point? If so who would take over? I wonder if the banned Italian was next in line.
Was it Joe or Autosport who were theorising Bernie were keeping 'friends close, enemy's closer'. Sounds about right, he has a pretty cagey answer to who he is friends with in last months f1 racing, i wonder if he knew the fuse had been lit, he certainly knew there was a bomb.
tbh Bernie has cagey answers for everything.
It was more like... Luca's a friend... Is flav a friend? he says he is...
I love Murray Walker's blog. He's always so cheery and entusiastic!
Phew.. last team then i can post the blog!
You don't sound so cheery though :( You getting there? It's supposed to be fun you know :D
remember 19 races next year... and you were calling for more...
I wont be doing it like this next year! 3,200 words and counting!
Little late but...
YEAH!!! CANADA IS BACK BABY!!! WHhhhhhhhOhhooooooooOooooo!!!!!
Ok.. i am done and dead...
Massive rundown of everything you need to know about the teams and drivers ahead of the race
Part1
Part2
Part3
3,400 words ...oops
I guess its a hangover of being a politics student.
wow.
I think wrote a magazine instead of a blog!
hehe!
i think the best part is that it will be completly useless after tomorrow afternoon!
In any case it was a good test, i will try something different before suzuka.
absolutely. i have no idea when i'll fit it in mind you.
Are you kidding, by committee staff standards, that is a bill digest.
Great stuff btw.
Well yes, but i did it for fun on a Friday night!
I was thinking 700-1000 words tops!
i might be about to break SPC. no new features to speak of, just underlying updates. don't get mad at (mt/ft) if comments go away for a bit.
Break away...
Cheers, Par1 is better than the rest, i realised if i referenced the whole thing i would struggle to get it done by qualifying!
cheers. think all is fine.
I'm kinda ashamed to admit it but I danced on chairs tonight to 'The Final Countdown' and I enjoyed it
With hot chicks, so I'd do it again too
:D
Oh, so now it gets quiet! ;)
*waves*
Hello Sir,
Have had the strangest night
do tell (but try to avoid the naughty step!),
I swear "The Adventure Bar" is run by Scientologists. but was the wikidest time!
Do they even have alcohol... or did you do all this sober?
;)
I'm really not sober
Do you even know me, what a silly question :)
are you in the loud talking stage of not sober or staring at thing stage of not sober? You drunken writing is pretty good. Almost Hunter S. Thompson-eqs...
haha, didnt think so... I have stayed off it tongiht and done some power writing which may or may not make sense...
going to head to bed in a bit
I'm a pretty good drunk, am fairly lucid until the cliff arrives and then...
I'm up at 8 for a pint & breakfast before Karting and a day at Ascot
It's my cousin's Stag
I forgot Inside F1 was on tonight... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8275937.stm
Doesnt say its region locked, but its iplayer so it may well be...
Lewis says the fans deserve an apology.. too right
He also appreciates people who buy Lewis tops or Heikki tops... #thereyougoamy
Busy day of fun tomorrow but sleep beckons
G'night SPC
Thanks for the video Dan. He had a lot of interesting things to say. I will listen to it again later in the weekend and check out his company. Interesting that he has arrived at the same conclusion I have that private space missions have more of a future than NASA.
Night Bassano
Finished Meeblings 2. I don't think those games are sooo addictive
Thanks. He was a really interesting guy. After looking at several things, I am starting to think that space might be the next big economic driver beyond nanotechnologies later in this century. There is starting to be some real potential out in space for a person with enough vision, money, and patience.
crazy fool!
There are all sorts of economic opportunities from tourism to minerals to anything you can possibly imagine but it will need private companies to develop vehicles that don't need a 3 month service every time they fly.
Not any more. I have my sanity back. Them little floaty people were not going to beat me. I just hope no-one ever comes up with meeblings 3.
And like Lou I am not really competitve. I could have walked away from it any time.
hello, how are things over here ?
Hi Wolf.
Are you in Singapore?
yes, just finished breakfast, jacuzzi and swimming pool. sorting out Friday pics :-)
I think it will come faster than many of us will think. Put it this way, the Shuttle is a 35 year old design. With Branson and others getting into the tourism game, I think many will see the potential of current technology applied sooner than later. Some people in the crowd I went drinking with later that night, including some people from Boeing. We figured over a few glasses of wine (or scotch in my case) that developing a commercially viable craft that can go to the moon and back are no harder than the problems they have developing the 787. The question is the market. Someone needs to show the market.
You must have the opposite problem with the time shift to all the people who went there from Europe.
Did you get any pics of Grosjean going off at Piquet corner?
I need to get in on traveling to these F1 races thing.
not really , the intense beer diet helps :-)
I only managed to take pic of the large screen. I am around Turns 1,2,3, so different place
not everywhere is as good as here, unfortunately
there are some changes (for better) comparing to last year. the first thing that can't be missed is the major improvement in F&B at the track. forgot to take pics yesterday but will do tonite.
The problems are far from insoluable. I would not be surprised if the Branson paraboli tourists flights turn into Londo to Sydney or New Yourk to Tokyo parabolic flights.
It's basically 50 years since the first manned space flight but still every flight is treated as needing millions of man hours of effort to prepare the vehicle. That should be down to something routine by now.
I expect in 5 years time there will be 5 to 10 companies flying in space and as soon as they are doing passenger flights there is no reason for them not to go to the ISS or for that matter the moon.
I think designing a moon base and industrialising the moon wil be far more complicated than making a vehicle to shuttle back and forward from the moon.
How did the crowd react when they realised that he had gone off at that corner?
not sure, noisy around. but the photo is in front page of the papers here with title DEJA VU :-)
Bob Bell gave a great interview about it. At least he saw the funny side
It's funny, Rockwell and Boeing were a little bit too far ahead of its' time on the X-30 and the X-40 projects. The only thing about getting a parabolic passenger fight effort off the ground is the airlines themselves. The margins are already to low and capital just isn't their to assist people like Boeing and Airbus to take a chance on a market. I have the feeling if it was to come together it might be something like the Concord where the production is subsidized as a public venture and only in limited numbers on limited routes like London to NYC, NYC to LA, LA to Tokyo, Tokyo to London, and ect.
Flying around the world in a matter of 8 hours would be crazy.
I don't see it as something for everyone but I can see a few billionaire's specials for starters. It would make it possible to have a meeting on the other side of th world but still sleep in your own bed that night. I always assumed this was one of the end games of the Branson / Burt Rutan project.
Just a thought, it would be strange, but it would be almost be faster to travel to London to LA or London to Singapore because it give the craft distance to build up speed. Just insane.
If Branson can do it, it will be one of the most amazing private venture story since Microsoft and Apple Computer.
THe way I see it is the ascent and descent are the same but the distance is covered essentially outwith the atmosphere so there should be little difference in the cost of taking of in New Mexico and returning there or landing in Sydney. It takes on the fuel necessary to maintain the speed.
I think sleep may be a good idea now.
Good night anyone who is still around.
in case you want to see, here are few pics from Friday:
http://www.f1wolf.com/2009/09/photos-my-friday-in-singapore.html
Night Steven.
Sweet. I like your seats. If you don't mind me asking, how expensive is Singapore compared to say... Melbourne for a race?
Good question. Wolf?
If I were to guess, I'd say Singapore would be more expensive by 25-50%.
BTW, Wolf, how's the weather?
Eeee... out of my pocket book. I would love to do a Melbourne and Sepang trip one of these years. I figure I can do it for about $2500 (USD)
Also for those of you that are interested, If you want to know how the U.S. Financial collapse and the Crash-gate scandal are similar; read my latest blog entry: http://www.racingeagles.com/2009/09/of-the-us-federal-reserve-lehman-brothers-the-fia-crashgate-cvc-fom-and-the-future-of-the-sport.html#more
That should be possible. Sepang is dirt-cheap! Amy looked at doing that this year before Sidepodspa came up. ;)
Sidepodspa? I've been out of the loop. To the Wiki!
Very much so, Dan. Everything's in the Wiki. ;)
Oh my god that sounds awesome. If I can meet up with a few people in London and go down together, I would really consider it.
Awesome doesn't even cover it!
Amy is meeting up with some of the Sidepodders in London. You can join them too. :)
Time to kill that Piquet rumor once and for all:
Virgin rules out signing Piquet
Of course, this assumes that Virgin will indeed move to Manor.
I just need the plane tickets to drop a little bit, I have my alert set. I now have two trips to save up for.
I think 747's carry less baggage then Piquet Jr. does now. If anyone is stupid enough to take them, have mercy on their sould.
:)
Stranger things have happened. And Piquet can bring sponsorship money if needed (i.e. he can buy a seat if someone sold it to him).
Paid drivers, teams on the brink, new teams coming in on the drop of a hat, the independents dominating...
I think F1 is getting back to its' roots of the late 1980's and 1990's.
All it needs now is a Williams-Renault.
Hang on... ;)
Christine brought up a good point though some time back - will a return to those roots be as good now as it was then? She's not so sure.
it is a good point. I am nervous that we will get back to the times of a few winners and a whole lot of losers. However, I think with the standardized engines (well to an extent) will keep the grid closer then it was in the mid 1990's I think.
Speed just started showing FP2.
We thought the 2009 grid won't be anywhere near as close as 2008. Boy, were we wrong...
I think the grid will look like the late 1970's and the early 1980's when you have the Cosworth DVF and the Ferrari engine... and well that is about it. It created some pretty close and exciting racing.
I love Singapore. It makes me wish we had Long Beach still on the calendar. We could get a similar circuit in Long Beach as we do in Singapore.
just lost internet. been raining here 18 hours nonstop. floods now as high as 6 to 7 feet in some places. havent seen flooding like this in decades.
Ouch. Do you need me to send you my kayak?
Hope you're high and dry at least.
so I planned on watching the AFL final, just because its apparently compulsory in Melbourne, but I just woke up and its already finished. Oh well.
On my way to the pub for breakfast and a 9am pint. A stag day of karting and the races at Ascot
Woo hoo!
theres a 9am on Saturdays? That's news to me.
depending on seats, but taking into consideration tickets, hotels I would say Singapore works out 50% more expensive than Melbourne
we live in a high spot, so no floods here. i hope we dont lose power though.
Epic!
Have a belter.
Ah...Morning all too.
just dropped pic of today's Singapore papers. Grosjean made front page :-)
oops. was commenting in yesterday's thread.... still asleep...
morning all :) all those comments that people made about renault doing things quietly this weekend. oh well, nice try.
Morning all, am commenting from bed. Yay!
Hope the flooding is under control Journeyer. Do we know if that rain is heading towards Singapore?
am commenting from work. we are worlds apart ;) morning!
should not, Singapore is in wrong direction. looking out of the window - hot, sunny, clear skies
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img-0235-jpg
current Singapore weather (pic taken a minute ago)
its under control where i am, but situation is very bad in other spots. confirmed as worst-ever rainfall on record - 22 hrs nonstop now. if anythng, the storm mightve pulled watevr rain there shud be in singapore.
having problems with dropio, trying again
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img-0235-jpg
ooh Steven was right, they have changed their hats to now have both names on them!
http://twitpic.com/j6lby
i'm still getting "unexpected server response". maybe we just wait..
if you go to the drop home page they're uploaded fine, it just caches the error if you click before they're uploaded properly.
same here, but if you copy and paste the link into a browser, the image shows up
you know i thought about doing that and got distracted by one of the other things... nice picture.
saves on production costs. they should make the stitching really easy to remove so you can deselect your least favourite.
i did that, it's a gorgeous view you have there.
odd to change it this late in the season though. Next year I'm sure they'll need new names ;)
well, if I turned the camera a bit more to the right there would be lots of container ships :-)
yeah i was guessing by your surprise they've done a late change. they haven't just added the world "Lewis" onto the other hats to sell the unmoving stock have they? ;) so who'll be driving for them next year? do you have an exclusive?
I would sell my first born to the devil for it to be Kimi :D
lol @f1photos: Apparently hundred of people walked out of the first night of 'F1 Rocks' due to the sound being crap
in all three cars? As for you your first born, I could make some calls.... (insert maniacal laugh here)
well Lewis isn't going anywhere, it's only a Heikki-replacement they need. I don't care about who the test driver is since Pedalo appears to be moving :)
it's about now where I realise I should be pulling out the whiteboard with driver's names and teams everywhere. or is there a virtual "cover all scenarios" online?
I have no idea. Silly season has got to the point where I'm just like HURRY UP AND ANNOUNCE SOMETHING, SOMEBODY, ANYBODY, PLEASE.
@byronf1 says "Please excuse me being vague but methinks a major announcement is coming from Ferrari shortly"
but it's probably something unrelated to drivers and I will just have to wait and go crazy for a few more weeks.
or, it could be time to prepare those photoshop creations of alonso wearing ferrari overalls.
I'm the same. At the moment I don't have the time to keep much of an idea on F1 at all so I just want the Alonso statement and then we can all move on ;)
just checked the italian ferrari news site. just a new watch for sale and some statements about yesterday. F1 needs a big announcement this weekend to start the renewal process.
right, I am off to the shop to buy maltesers and passiona for fp3/qualy. And bread, but thats for my breakfast tomorrow.
nice idea. i miss passiona, but i'm sure i'll find something.
a dopo ("later" in italian)
off to the track, see ya. all I can manage there are tweets
have fun!
Have a good one. Not jealous or anything ;)
disaster. Shop did not have passiona. Instead I got mountain dew and a berry kick slurpee.
That's so not an adequate replacement. I feel slightly disappointed for you. well that and the fact I'm trying to do work, and work isn't working.
I blame myself for going to 7 eleven instead of IGA, but its cold out there and IGA is further away.
i have to say when you talked about a slurpee I was suspicious you'd selected an easier option. Did you get any of the Sydney redness down south? even the italian media reported it as "Sydney like Mars".
no, it headed east and went to NZ instead but by the time it got there most of the dust had fallen into the Tasman Sea.
i was hearing it went north on tv here. italians aren't great explorers - they more for sitting in a room and coming up with good stuff. while i was travelling i got to see all the good stuff, and a tower that in other culture would be torn down because it doesn't sit quite right.
I am really looking forward to Italy. 330 days to go ;)
do you want any advice yet or too early?
I heart advice, I've already been told of good hostels in Florence (where I'm not going) and Paris.
Where are you going? I'm sure I can give advice on Paris too - the metro system in paris is awesome - get a weekly type pass and zip around. the train/transport website is pretty good and available in english.
You must go to Siena, it's wonderful
where am I going? Why, what an excuse to pluggety plug
http://daydreamingoutloud.com/2009/09/16/where-im-going/ :D
Bassano - now I can agree with you! I caught the one month after party for one of the Palio celebrations. It was awesome walking around and chatting with the local about their win, and how much it meant to them.
Amy - if you can, try and see the Palio, this crazy horse race - happens once in July and once in August.
noooo I only have 10 days to get from Brussels to Milan, I don't need more places to add to the list! Not enough tiiiiime!
fp3 in an hr. w no net, il monitor it here. hoping our power stays on all the way.
hehe....i added some brief comments on your blog. my suggestion is to start finding some nice PDF maps, and print them on A3 paper (work is good for something) and then start scribbling on transport maps (often also available)
but yeah start with the EURAIL timetable - downloadable PDF and the eurail map
poor you. we'll try to be informative. i better go to shops now and get food. later all.
Morning folks :)
evening
Hello again to everyone. I am no longer commenting from bed. Boo.
I still am :D Only just woke up to be honest.
That's not helping, is it? :P :D
Fine by me. Had the longest lie-in since forever today. Happy girl.
I was going to say 'did you get out of bed at 5pm too?' but its not even 5 there yet.
Oh, we did get your Petit Le Mans post, by the way. Was saving it for the live commenting thread, is that right?
I don't think I could stay in bed till 5pm unless I was ill.
the trick is to go to bed at 6am.
(I really need to sort out my sleep :( )
I see. That doesn't really count as a lie-in then, or does it? I always figured a lie-in was when you got your normal sleep plus a little bit extra.
Of course, normal sleep is a bit tricky for you :)
Yeah that's fine :) Just thought I'd ask since I hadn't seen anything come up yet :)
You'll be even happier if Franck wins, I bet :D
I was thinking of going to bed straight after qualy since its 2 hours later than usual, but what about the weights? I must know these or I will not sleep!
Also, just as I pointed out in the e-mail, you're free to change or take out or add anything if need be. I know the post ended up being a bit long! :P
Absolutely! I haven't seen that happen before. We'd have to have a Franck party, I reckon.
Franck masks for all!
Damn those teams being so slow at releasing information.
Lovely, thanks Scott :)
He won that race in the ALMS for Acura. But you're right, this would be the first time you'd actually see him cross the line in first, presuming he does so today which he should :P
You're welcome :P
Morning!!
Hey Lou!
re drivers changes for 2010, james allen's post is about the topic - word from ferrari is that something has changed in the last few days - about who will go where LInk. This is yesterday's news but I never saw it.
These are hilarious quotes - Jon, your girlfriend has a fine sense of humour :D
There's a 4-5 minute video about Force India on CNN's http://edition.cnn.com/2009/SPORT/09/24/motorsport.force.india.inside/index.html
Not true. Banana's are best when they get spotty!
Eurgh!! NO!
and best for banana cake when they are a mess.
That's a shame. Self-promotion isn't all it's cracked up to be...
For Amy, Hekki stickers :)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00132-jpg
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00131-jpg
where did they come from? M&S?
Indeed I was there today, there was a big image of Lewis but none of Hekki :(
Off to bed for me. Enjoy Petit Le Mans!
night!
great pic of bernie and the Black Eyed Peas
I'm out of here folks. well this window. need to finish off the stuff that wasn't working before... ciao.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-40
This was the book I mentioned earlier ;-)
right, I think its a good time for toast.
:D *must remember to read it*
yay, FIA documents
although this one is boring
http://fialive.fiacommunications.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/sin09_document_21.pdf
Rubens and Romain had an incident, but nothing happened, so we're not punishing anyone.
THIS DESERVES A POST OF ITS OWN
http://twitpic.com/j70q8
OMG!!
Don't let lou see the comments, someone said Jason Button
although on twitter they call that 'watching the race in the suite' so clearly no one has explained qualifying to them. And AJ appears to now be a woman. ;)
they did WHAT??
i didn't even know who they were until i noticed whose twitpic account they came from..
I'll forgive you for that because of your age.
"Sadly you won't see Felipe Massa racing. But Jason Button is AWESOME!!"
oh dear.
i've heard of them (never liked them i'm afraid) but i couldn't recognise them in the street...
:(
if you were a teenage girl in the late 90s/early part of this decade you'd have no choice but to recognise them. They were unavoidable :D
aahh.. i wasn't quiet a teenager in the late 90s.. not that i was really into music then anyway.. it all seemed to be about the spice girls and i hated them alot. music never really interested me until around 2000 when coldplay came around...
this story saddens me :(
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78903
Ruuuuubennnnnns.
Parachutes was the only album I could listen to when I was studying for my School Cert (which is like the NZ GCSE) but now I can't stand Coldplay. I still don't mind that album though.
Awe... that photo really tugs the heart strings... poor guy
thats why I really really want him to win this year, because he is on his way out and if hes in F1 next year odds are it won't be with a front running team. Jenson has more chances left than Rubens.
I can't say much though really, as I bop around my room at 2.30am I am listening to an iTunes genius mix of 90s Pop and I had to turn off last.fm scrobbling because its just so embarrassing.
you can turn it off?
ehehe :D
I am not here (in the other thread)...
How can a DWC contender not have a drive next year? I can think of so many reasons why a team would want him - still quick, good at car development, still wants to win...
If anyone needs to catch up on all the news before quali, i have a convenient* 3 part preview http://f1rundown.wordpress.com/ **
*conveniently long
**Last plug i promise!
Renault might be good for him... If not Sauber or Williams could be options... i think he should get a drive, i guess he is on the Kubica roundabout as opposed to the Alonso one
OH BTW, Anyone want to give me some predictions for fuel weights before they are published? Please use the tag #Weights and leave a comment here...
i turned scrobbling back on because I am having too much fun
Scrobbling sounds like it should be fun! I'm always disappointed.
it sounds like something you should do to your dinner
i would marry christine, just for her headlines:
big picture.
Scrobbling is fun. Was more fun a couple of years ago when you could check your recommendations every hour or so and they'd be different.
I can see you're all enjoying petit le mans so I shall quickly say hello and give you all a wave :)
I've got the LCLT up and running for Petit, and the Doohickey up and running for the Daily. No reason for the Daily to be quiet. :-)
i'm here, i'm not watching petit le mans
hi btw
yaaay I don't feel left out now :P
Wooo non le mans power!!
haha am watching iplayer atm :) but i'm around :) have you watched quali?
same here.
I haven't... I'm about to watch it now. Woo!
All I've done is seen your texts obviously, and got worried like a complete flippin' idiot about Rubens (my fault!). I also need to see your coldplay piccies!
Does it cost you money for people to follow the comments?
I feel like i've aged 20 years....
Jon's uni lesson number #2 (i'll put pictures up of number one in a bit....):
JUST BECAUSE IT SAYS 4 MINUTES MAX DOSENT MEAN YOU HAVE TO DO IT FOR 4 MINUTES!!!!!!
I may have just set fire to a bag of microwave popcorn....
aha you should have seen me earlier, i was panicing about jenson ;)
woooo daily. I am listening to Tiffany.
and that is why we are banned from making popcorn in the office microwave.
hahahahahaha :)
Hahahaha is the smoke alarm going off? Shut your kitchen door and wedge the window open unless you want to be shunned....
nooo, i took it to the nearest window and then shoo-ed the smoke out the window.
i think i have the black lung
Possibly also throw the popcorn out the window if it's smoking too badly.... :P
I would have, but then i wouldnt be able to get it back...
Hi, btw ;)
JON!!!!
Hello Mr G
Just watching the bernie interview again... its great :D
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78919
Does this mean Badoer wasn't utterly useless? (or as utterly useless as we'd thought)
18th isn't a great deal better than he used to qualify
Yoghurt Fail
Popcorn Fail
i was making a smoothie and leant the hand blender against hte (plastic) bowl.
please don't tell me you put a stick mixer in that tiny wee bowl!
ahh
Oh dear oh dear...
I am going to have to make a run for it.
The exotic climes of Reading or Henley await me!
will try to comment from my phone for the race tomorow, but if i dont make it, have fun!
My giddy aunt.... Are you auditioning for a role as Mr C?
are the weights out yet?
why is @byronf1 saying goodbye to Piquet?
http://twitter.com/byronf1/status/4397405167
grosjen rather
why ya going there?
you're not that far from me, and theres nothing that exciting round here :P
Did i get it? :D
Grosjean isn't rubbish.
Because he must think Di Grassi is going to replace him?
well obviously, but why?
The idea that you know a smoothie could contain yoghurt might exclude you I'm afraid :)
Rubbish
You did try and use a hand blender in a TINY bowl though.... WHY?
Ted Kravitz "Do you still count that as a race victory?"
Nando "Yes"
TK "Even though the team fixed the race?"
Nando "It's open to interpretation..."
NO ITS NOT
Nooo, it was a big bowl
If you're talking about the bowl in the picture then errrm no.
I'm with her. Looks like a bowl that you'd press the button on the mixer and everything would splatter out of it :D
I dunno though. Accepting that he had nothing to do with the fix, you'd be as well removing Nico's 2nd place or Hamilton's 3rd. He still had to drive a good race to win. He had a barnstormer.
hmmm, i don't like it when other people are right ;)
I thought i was using the bigger bowl
Oh yeah, i think he should keep it, but he should acknowledge that the fact that his win was fixed is not open to interpretation
Hah, the fix didn't guarantee him the win. I think that was his point. I think he probably could have conceded that he couldn't have won without it though.
wow!!! My brother found the official FIA F1 2008 DVD season review in poundland (for £1 obviously) all wrapped with selofane and stil brand new.
What a find!
aha, it's true worth shown ;)
Bargain!
£1 for an official F1 DVD all sealed up?
Yes please
My negativity is shown because i paid £10 for it booo
Isn't it Petit Le Mans time yet? :D
your thread is over there *points*
To the thread! :D
I understand where he's coming from though, he still had to push hard to open gaps for the next pit stop window. In other Fernando related news my graduation present http://www.twitpic.com/j7mwl :)
AWESOME!
All I knew was I had to go with my parents to pick something up, no idea what. It's number 10 of 100 and comes with a certifcate, I've never been more speechless than I was right then. :)
document updates:
Fisi impedes Sutil in Q1, reprimanded.

Amy, where's the weights?
What happened to Jenson?
not out yet.
Just slow I think.
you can have the weights race to yourself Amy. I haven't been in front of the computer for so long I got no idea where my script is. well i have ideas, but i just can't be bothered ;)
you've been rather MIA the last few races :D
Poosticks :(
being in front of the computer for post qualifying wasn't a good use of my time, and then for a few races I just watched the italian coveage and ignored the internet, then i went exploring this country. it's a tough life ;)
well, he was doing okay with set up in Q1, but wasn't that happy so took on board a little bit more of Rubens and basically tweaked it a bit, but it was the wrong move so struggled more in Q2.. and by more i mean alot, and wasn't able to get out of Q2.. the light fuel loads probably didn't help either, because the car never likes light fuel runs...
aaah, thank you Jules
press conference is though
http://fialive.fiacommunications.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/sin09_conference_sat.pdf
Q: (Michael Schmidt – Auto Motor und Sport) Nico, in Q2 you did a 41.1s in the second sector which was 0.3s faster than anybody else and also much faster than on any other lap you did. What was so special about this lap and this sector?
LH: He cut the chicane!
NR: No, I just really got it together
lol
ahaha ;) your welcome... as you can tell i may have procrastinated a little today :)
Watch out for Nico playing with the juice in his mouth at the start....
Classic!
i wish i had work to procrastinate about, soooo bored, i wanna get on with course stuff
what's stopping you? have you not started yet?
You could mess up more easy to cook meals?
i start on Monday
i'm not sure popcorn is classed as a meal ;)
but i will start "cooking" soon
why not blog? or erm.. do some additional reading for your course?
oh okay - i was assuming that you started given the comments from the library last week. at the uni I went to, we never had an orientation week really, monday was lesson 1 and that was that.
have you bought the textbooks? read them ...
ooops looks like rf1paddockpass on twitter has forgotten they aren't sponsored by ING anymore, or perhaps just forgotten to change the automatic message thing...
franck just got out or got in? I'm thinking out.
i havent been told about any, i think we'll find out Monday.
I would like to beat Mr Ecclescrooge with a stick
Any specific reason?
fair enough. I'll let you relax this weekend ;) next weekend, no deal.
None required, but makes it easier to understand.
The interview he did with Jake
i loved it. jake was mincemeat.
im just sitting here stunded
my smoke alarm is making the 'my battery is flat' intermittent beep :(
but normally at 4am in the morning, that's really annoying. but you're already up!
Lee Diffey is commentating! he's an ex ch10 guy from australia.
I can't reach it to make it stop :(
no chair/broom or chair on books and broom combination can fix it?
no the battery actually has to be taken out and we only have chairs that if you stand on them break (go Ikea, woo!). We have a step ladder but the neighbours have it at the moment. I shall have to get it back tomorrow.
you cannot sleep with it beeping?
I've been given a challenge. Have my own hashtag and everything!
http://twitter.com/f1scoop/status/4398799970
Amy has been issued with a Twitter challenge :-)
Johnny Noble won the fuel-weight tweet war...
although he doesn't know them yet :-)
paper copies don't count
Fuel weights are out!
where?
not where i'm looking. some people are posting but i can't see anything official. Gavin?
in the press room. Booo @ real journalists.
hehe. i thought gavin had one the weight competition for a second (that sounds funny. not commentating on SPC members weights..)
Johnny Noble is tweeting the numbers from the paper handout..
http://twitter.com/NobleF1
the FIA aren't very #MFC putting them out in paper before pdf.
Red Bulls light. Webber (654.5) and Vettel (651) against Hamilton on 660.5. Rosberg 657.5
Jenson has gone very heavy - 683. He needs a good start tomorrow
Rubens 655.5
the online pdf is a scan, isn't it?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78942
they're just not friendly.
Oh,em, weights!!
http://fia.com...nts/sin09_weights.pdf
from kathi in other thread
oops sorry
it brings me joy that heikki is the heaviest in the top 10, just.
Blimey, go Lewis!
no worries.
rubens ruined vettels race.
*confusion* the Japanese GP tis year is at Suzuka right? if so.. why is it called the '2009 FORMULA 1 FUJI TELEVISION JAPANESE GRAND PRIX' or are they confused?
I fully agree with F1Scoop, I need media accreditation :D
Fuji Television is the title sponsor
no the pdf is actually made properly - if you look at the text all the numbers and text is inside. that's how i wrote the scripts which worked for 2 races. it is the only online pdf that the fia produce with F1 that is done this way. all others are created, then scanned. possibly to stop people like me stripping out the info for websites etc
I know :(
Eeek, forgot about the speedway, see yas in a bit.
what's wrong with that. the tv company is Fuji TV if that's what you're worried about.
ooooh okay. thanks :)
Yeah sorry I saw Jonny Noble's tweet. I probably would be the heaviest SPC'er though!
or because it's not signed, usually the scanned ones are the ones that are signed by Jo
no worries. and no comment ;) I'm embarrassed about my spelling up there one/won....grr.
anyway, i'm going offline now. need to get away from computer/desk....and move to the couch. night all. probably be here tomorrow.
yeah it has Jo's name on it but no actual signature. odd.
Why is Liuzzi fuelled so light at the back, he'll get trapped won't he?
Night.
so plan was to sleep but um, I'm still not tired.
Has someone got a lap estimate to go with that? I'm too much of a dummy to know how much fuel a lap needs. Is this unreasonably early to request this sort of information?
Have sent a quick voicemail Christine might like :)
so who exactly is @f1scoop anyway? Why are they scaring me like @johnallert did?
been reasonably accurate all the time i've been watching.
hmm.
Am back :)
We're making bread to make up for my misdemenar of popcorn earlier
My word. Try not to burn the place down in the first week eh :P
I promise nothing :)
You're awfully quiet.... Have you burned anything?
I'm still alive :)
I'm waiting for it to rise, and watching quali, 10 minutes and i can put it in the oven.
12 hours into the stag, only one man has bailed so far. 25 remain, going well so far
I feel like my last question might be appropriate. Have you burned anything? :P
Mr Bassano sir, were you sent anything about Thursday? or is it just turn up and they've got your name down like those things usually are?
It's just dawned on me that you're probably QUITE drunk, so no rush ;)
I see there's a "Quickest Fuel Weights" competition going. I've probably lost, but mine is now posted.
Remind me tomorrow cos I won't remember this conversation by then. Back to the drinking!
Thought as much!
Have fun, don't get too...too late
Rubens on twitter
'just got back from the racing track and car is fine to tomorrow's race...time to bed now...good night'
Night Rubens!
Is he allowed to start 10th?
not a clue...
I feel guilty for saying this but I want him to start in the pits :P
£1 for an official F1 DVD all sealed up?
Yes please
My negativity is shown because i paid £10 for it booo {Comment #319}
I paid full price
me too :( which makes me sad cause drives for brawn and is my second fav driver, but i want jenson to do better.
In other Fernando related news my graduation present {Comment #323}
That is a marvellous gift :)
Go team cool! I want Jenson to go out and win it but if that isn't going to happen, everyone else is just gonna have to throw it away dammit!
Why is Liuzzi fuelled so light at the back, he’ll get trapped won’t he? {Comment #400}
I suspect so - but there are two scenarios where that trick may work:
a) he makes a lightning start and makes up a fistful of places, or
b) there's a Safety Car before he stops; he'll only be in a few seconds longer than the ones fuelled normally and have got the troublesome soft tyres out of the way. If the drivers round him struggle on the softs, Tonio can pick them off in the remaining pit sequence, or possibly even overtake.
Is he allowed to start 10th? {Comment #421}
If Brawn can fix the car using only identical parts to the ones damaged and without replacing the gearbox, then Rubens may start 10th.
Gearbox replacements will result in a 5-place grid drop. Non-identical part replacement means a pit lane start.
If the engine needs replacement, there will be no penalty but the engine removed can't be used again until Abu Dhabi.
I feel guilty for saying this but I want him to start in the pits {Comment #423}
Given the tightness of the first corner and the presence of Grosjean, I think Barrichello would be safer starting in the pits...
Oh no
Hehehehe
I'd say it's Lewis that needs to mind hot-head Rosberg!
:(
I am worried about tomorrow's first corner now.
I can see why Vettel was annoyed at not getting pole when you see the weights.
shows what a stonking job LewHam did though
Damn you Rubens! He'll never be able to beat Hamilton to the first corner either....
Exactly
He'd have been beaten though if it wasn't for the red flag. But yeah, he was flying on that amount of fuel.
I don't think he would have been beaten today.
Have we seen Journeyer today? I'm reading about floods in Manila.
Yeah, I'm sure he was taunting Mr C earlier....
I'm looking at pics from today as usual and...
i spy Karen in the photos from today, she's turned up again in the paddock :) i wonder if mini DC is around too....
THAT woman has one sparkly looking phone or camera.. and i'm really not a fan of it.
This may be one of the best
photos of the weekend so far (plus it's heikki so yay for Amy :) )
of course i realise everyone is watching petit le mans :) but i thought i'd post it for the few people that may be keeping an eye on the daily :)
UGH!!
That is absolutely stunning
Nothing is happening in the Petit. Lots of rain and lightning
she doesn't look too happy this weekend...
aaah. okay :)
That is awesome. Yay for night races!
The cars have been parked for a while and will stay parked for a long time yet
Probably because she isn';t centre of attention with F1 Rocks
i know! :D i keep looking for photos of the brawn looking all florescent and glowing... and i'm failing...
Oooh, good find.
there is a similar one in colour of Lewis but i don't like it as much :)
:( i hate finding unused twitter accounts that would have huge potential..i've just found the photographer who took that great photo on twitter but they've only ever made one tweet and that was a month ago. :(
*hums Can You Feel It by the Jackson Five*
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/stare-jpg
Thats a shame. :(
Right guys, time for Qualifying Analysis for the Singapore Grand Prix from my blog "Making Up The Numbers". An interesting session today on a dusty and slippery track under the lights of the Marina Bay circuit.
Anyway, have a read and let me know what you think ;)
Which other person is as optimistic as me and thinks Glock will win?
#MFC Here's a link to test out Google Chrome OS.
Who's brave enough to try it???
virtual box is essentially risk free isn't it? i would but am busy coding.
If it is, I will...
i think it runs as a virtual machine, doesn't affect your current os.
no promises though.
For LCLT users....
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/image005-jpg-2
Bread....
mmm
I can confirm that is bread
Well done!
it's soooo nice
Boo, "awaiting moderation"
That's odd?
Probably because you forgot to vote for Vettel in the poll :(
Sleepy time pour moi :)
Won't see y'all much tomorrow, i won't get to see the race and then i'm going to see this guy being interviewed
Have fun!
See ya
Oh yeah. I voted in the poll. Then I went away and checked some Petit Le Mans stuff, then I wrote the comment. So I think I voted for Hamilton and forgot.
You are choosing to see Jonathan Aitken instead of watching F1? Are you mad?
I have no tv/licence/signal for a tv, so even if i wanted too...i couldnt
Same problem here Gavin, posted and said i was in moderation.
Oh by the way, thingy Windsors still there!! JA hasnt come back...
night Jon :)
Fair enough.
Night.
Night Jon!
RG requires sleep. Early start tomorrow (well, 10:20 is early for me). Lotsa love.
Night
bye rg.
okay i think i've looked at as many photos as possible for one evening :) plus i've emailed a few more f1 photographers (one of them is bound to reply surely!), i hope the race has been/ is enjoyable..
Who does this remind you of?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNrS9RHMc-I
the race has umm, stopped. glad you're into the emailing thing though.
The rain finally actually hit somewhere then? Thank goodness for that.
I really want rain tomorrow!
All I want tomorrow is for Rubens to just get past turn 1 and away from Grosjean
he's already got 1 Brawn... I can see what his masterplan is
still stopped? you can tell i've not been paying attention. tbh i still can't choose between photography and psychology for uni and i've been searching through courses and the like for ages now, and just fancied finding out more about f1 photography. they are probably all super busy though :( i'll probably get replies by like december if at all and by then it will be too late to help...
based on what happened in singapore last year during fp1 (?) with the rain i think that would be erm... interesting...
ALERT LOU IS TIRED AND CONFUSED THIS MAY MAKE NO SENSE....but...
isn't Grosjean starting from 19th and Rubens from 10th? he'd have to get Jenson before he reached Rubens...
I have a funny feeling Rubens may not be starting 109th... but we'll see :(
(not here)
Why does every one presume Grosjean is going to wreck someones rear wing or summit? He's only done it once.
109th...
I hate tiredness.
Keep bugging them but I wouldn't e-mail them on a race weekend as they have less time to deal with it. All those that you have e-mailled during a race weekend you should e-mail again on the Tuesday or Wednesday after a free weekend especially if there is not a race that week. You need to try to catch them when they are not busy.
What you have done is not wrong and may work but you have to give yourself the best chance of them thinking about your message. If I would you I would have a look at the calendar and find a suitable date so you can plan who you are going to contact. Send e-mails to anyone you have already e-mailed and put in a comment that you are re-mailing them because they may have missed your earlier message. Keep bugging them but be polite and not annoying.
oh... is that in front or behind Jenson?...
i emailed many of them at the beginning of the summer break.. so i'm guessing they are constantly busy?..
but he blamed Jenson.. when... oh you know ;) i'm thinking he may or may not blame the corner for his spin the other day ;)
i'm sure he wouldn't be as silly as to hit jenson again ;)
Send them a follow up when there is a suitable date next. If you get people on the wrong day they may read the message and decide to deal with it later but never get back to it.
If that's their chance at a holiday though, they could just be ignoring all work-related messages.
I think it was Jenson's fault too.
(again, not here, i really should stop procrastinwhatever sleep)
I'm defending Grosjean till the day he takes out Glock/BMW
ah okay. Darren Heath was very good with a response when i emailed him last year, cause he emailed me about a month after i sent him a message, from bahrain! so i was happy :) if i don't get a single response by the end of the season i'll email them again :) thanks
I don't rate him at all. And because of that, I know karma will bite me and he'll end up taking Rubens out
i see, good point..
i'm going to say it will depend on how Jenson's race goes... if it goes badly then yeah i'd be worried about Grosjean too ;) if it goes well then you've got nothing to worry about.
Don't wait till the end of the season. They will go on holiday then and if they check e-mails while they are away they will ignore yours till they get back and then they have 3 weeks worth of e-mail etc. If they are not checking e-mails it will be worse. Try and get them before the end of the season then do another batch 6 weeks after the season unless that puts us near a holiday time.
ah okay, i'll try again then. in the meantime i must sleep. night all! x
Night
Night Lou
Night Lou.
I'm gonna head off too. Night.
Night Lou and Lukeh. ;)
I left my 1st comment on the 27th thread. Ha!
Night Lukeh
There's an obvious joke here, but no, I won't go there. ;)
