It's Friday today, Free Practice day in Australia and also Alia's birthday! Happy Birthday! There will be plenty of threads appearing today, from live commenting, to results, to a dedicated post for our intrepid GP explorers. Stay tuned for all things Australia on Sidepodcast. Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- It looks as though the FIA are going ahead with the parc ferme system they trialled in Bahrain - with the cars allowed to stay in the team garages but cameras installed to make sure nothing untoward happens. It's all very Big Brother and is just a by-product of the fact that the FIA hadn't anticipated the amount of space the extra teams would take up.
- Bernie Ecclestone has apparently remembered that the US exists and is pushing for a Grand Prix in New York for 2012. Of course, it would be a street circuit in the midst of the city, as Bernie likes no other kinds of race. That wouldn't cause any disturbance whatsoever, would it?
- Sauber have managed to introduce their own version of the McLaren F-Duct, although they haven't decided if they want to run it in the race or not. Mr C was quite happy to be proved right that it took McLaren a couple of years to design the thing, but he was proved wrong because the other teams are able to introduce it rather quickly!
- I absolutely must plug yesterday's F1 Big Picture just because it is the best one we ever posted.
That should do it for now, I hope you'll join us throughout the day, we'll be around and thus, I will see you in the comments.
hey f1 friday.
An hour and a bit to go!
I have come home from work to discover there is now strike action on the days I have trains booked for. Joy.
I hope everyone else is cheerier....
it's nixed our meetup plans :(
I'd suggest flying but that may not be a good option thee days either :(
Hey Alison
Because more people will park at Heathrow?
Pam has kangaroo tv I am so jelous
hehe. janna, lou, lukeh etc all coming by train.
Ahem, wrong thread Paul ;)
ooh, perfect. you need it sir, i promise.
Are all train lines out?
unknown at the moment. not worth making plans though. tubes poss iffy too.
Mmmmm, Maintenance & Signal workers. Bugger!
gavin's not happy. he's only over for a few days.
Someone should tell Gavin, or will he be gone by then?
Someone posted this earlier to cheer you up. Can't remember who

They can't sell the National Lottery owners to a Canadian Teacher's Pension Fund!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8588321.stm
Looks like an illegal wing to me... or ducked!
:D :D :D
I was planning on coming down the whole length of the country on the night of the 8th. I won't get down to London until after 6 though..... GRRRRR I really don't relish the thought of driving down overnight.....
I can't imagine the roadds being that pleasant during that period either
It may not go ahead, fingers crossed
"That is the downside to drinking Guinness outside of Europe"
You're telling me. I paid less for it in Euros than I do in Dollars. Guinness was my safe drink of choice at pubs while I was stationed in Germany. I didn't care for much of their beer, made me too gassy =/
I'm just so angry. I booked my tickets online and when they arrived they were wrong. I spent ages on the phone to rude people who told me I had to pay a ridiculous fee to correct their error.... Eventually I complained enough and they dropped it. I don't understand why I can't change plans without extortionate fees but they can do whatever they like.... Can I charge a fee?
Sounds reasonable to me but it's never worked in the past when I've tried
Well Nick is flying a 10000 mile round trip to see me. Can I bill them for that?
For mental torture, probably ;)
You're so mean....
I really can't help it
I think I have Chandler's Disease
:D Hehehehehe. Morning, folks. Getting ready for FP1?
Indeedy
How're things your side of the world Journeyer?
I think Mr E's concern is that he wants to bring the race to the people and get them interested, rather than racing on a track which people (especially those not familiar with F1) may not go to.
I'm too stressed. After stupid mess with train tickets, I almost booked a bus to spite them. Pretty much wishing I did....
Just woke up. Was worried for a second that I missed FP1, but it looks like practice is later than the regular times for AUS. Must be because of the twilight race. :)
:(
I'm not convinced yet
Much like the Rome GP, then Monza gets extended
All talk
Rome GP would have been a terrible idea anyway. Monza is an awesome track.
Bernie talks as much rrrrrubbish as Peter Windsor these days
In Italy's case, who said we can't have both? It's been done before, and it's a distinct possibility.
As for the US, there may be a more practical reason. Other than Indy, is there any purpose-built track that meets the standards required to host F1?
That'd be three events in Italy (sorta). San Marino, Monza and Rome.
I don't think so. There is the grain of hope ofr Barber Motorsport Park, where US-F1 was supposed to be allowed to try to push-start their car.
I mean, I'm all for it because I'm Italian, but I'm not sure anyone else outside Italia would dig it.
Imola's not on the calendar
Road Atlanta is nice. Infineon too. Laguna Seca.
Oh, fair enough.
Camelot don't own the lottery they only have a license for a set time.
I don't think Infineon and Laguna Seca can happen because the gradient change in some of the corners may be too much (think Corkscrew).
Road Atlanta, though... Hmmm...
I get that, for another 10 years or so
It's still wrong
There are TONS of nice tracks in the U.S. None of which are up to F1 technical specs, or equipped to deal with an F1 even. Laguna, Watkins, Road Atlanta, VIR are all out in the boonies, with half a horse trail serving them.
I never understood why the government didn't run the lottery and use it as a source of income.
Lime Rock is awesome but it'd be a savagely boring F1 track.
Because they're generally idiots who couldn't run the proverbial booze up
Ain't gonna happen. We have heard this bull before. Someone's contract must be due so he is trying to bump the fee
It'll happen. Maybe not right now, but it'll happen. There's just too much demand from the teams not to make this happen one way or the other.
I think Thunderhill would be an awesome F1 course. Too bad they have nothing as far as facilities goes to support a race.
That might well be my dad's favourite phrase. It always makes me smile.
What is wrong is that they have the license. Blair bottled out of giving it to Virgin when they put in a far better bid and allowed Camelot to bid again knowing the Virgine bid.
We don't need another street circuit
There is no demand in New York. Never has been. Five years ago we almost had finalised contracts for a race in Central Park according to Bernie then it disappeared as fast as all the Russian GPs
But it'll probably be cheaper than a proper circuit. Which means the organizer might have more money to pay Bernie with.
Yea, pretty much. They always sound like a good idea in theory but turn out to be brutally boring.
Agreed.
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK!!!
ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/26/live-australia-2010-free-practice-1/
Didn't Tina Turner sing as much?
A USGP won't be in New York. But I'd be looking further north - in the region of New England. I'm no expert in undeveloped land, but in terms of demographics, I'd be targeting Boston.
Street circuits are always asking for trouble too. No runoff/peanuts to catch the cars, poor tarmac, bad facilities, poor layout, etc.
Why does everything on my computer want to upgrade right now. Don't they know FP1 is coming up?
#marchmadness
Another #1 bites the dust. :D
For F1 to work it needs to be close to NY or in California.
Those are the obvious solutions. Unfortunately, there's obvious reasons they won't work as well. Which is why I'm going for a less obvious solution. Boston is a big city, East Coast TV-friendly, and may just have enough European influenced culture for them to be open to the idea of F1.
Whoah, Mr C has developed an inclination towards capital letters and writing in the third person as well as admitting he may have been wrong. And on top of that, he's loving Di Grassi sunning it up on the beach, board in tow. What's going on!?
Ollie!
Hey fella
Mr Bassano, good morning.
morning everyone
Hey Leigh and Ollie. Head on over to the FP1 thread. :)
Doubt I'll make it for FP2
See ya folks
Yeah I'm off to bed now. I have work tomorrow afternoon. Staying up until 7am is a bit too hardcore for me :P
bye alison and bassano
It's Friday today, Free Practice day in Australia and also Alia's birthday! Happy Birthday! {Original entry}
Thank you :) I'm having a great time so far.
That'd be three events in Italy (sorta). San Marino, Monza and Rome. {Comment #39}
MotoGP's got three races plus a reserve event in Spain...
I never understood why the government didn't run the lottery and use it as a source of income. {Comment #49}
Because when they originally mooted the idea, having it put the proceeds into charity helped get the item through Parliament. They're using it to help defray the costs of the Olympics and many other charities save the government money by doing things the government would have to do if they didn't exist. The goverment may well have the best of all worlds - the efficiencies of the private sector with the ability to save money on certain forms of expenditure (albeit indirectly) plus the support of the public for putting the money into somewhere other than the government's own pockets.
time to go to bed or I won't survive the weekend. see you tomorrow!
Ain't gonna happen. We have heard this bull before. Someone's contract must be due so he is trying to bump the fee {Comment #52}
China's and Turkey's are due, if not others as well. Both circuits specifically mentioned are vulnerable and one of them (maybe both) could easily lose its slot to make way for other events.
time to go to bed or I won't survive the weekend. see you tomorrow! {Comment #82}
See you tomorrow!
No job for me as other guy more experienced. I knew that before i interviewed!
:( maybe next time?
Morning.
Just saw this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8588379.stm
Virgin made their fuel tank too small? Really? I find that amazing. Is this a CFD Fail?
At least you had some practice. Never mind, you done good Amy!
*sits back in the daily for an hour before going to that silly supermarket*
hello daily
Do a most successful meetup poll
I can hear V8s. Normally iwould pay to see these things
i think you may have aced that one.
love the red bull piccy on the homepage: http://sidepodcast.com/
melbourne is beautiful.
Ooh lovely
Not right now its not
you've lost people?
Its a bit wet
I thought he meant about the beautiful comment, because of the rain :)
ahh, yes. that's a bit of a bugger.
with ya. i may need sleep.
g'night xxxxx
I can kind of understand companies getting you to sign stuff saying don't go saying this and that on social networking websites but I find this absurd... http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/032410-demo-social-sentry.html
night mr c!
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/47535000/jpg/_47535335_schumacher_scooter766.jpg
What a barrel of fun Michael looks!
Did you see the FOFA pic links on Facebook yesterday? 37 pics of the Grumpy Old Man!
Gosh Christine...
Karun will be going up in the ratings this week...
I wonder why...
http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/15/a-bumper-week-for-christines-rankings/comments/#comment-726319
Hehehehe. :D Mind you, Shov looks like he's enjoying the ride. Haha!
Morning all.
Hiya Christine, how are you?
You may wanna see your Rankings thread!
Indeed.
Very touching, if I say so myself. :)
Looking at twitter, apparently Sauber don't have the BMW in their names anymore? I can't remember what it said in practise although Kobayashi seemed most amusing in FP1 :)
Suppose I'd better head off to work. Matt Smith is gonna be on Jonathon Ross tonight so that's something to look forward too :)
See you all later!
Oooh, ace!
oops, before i head off, happy birthday alianora :)
See ya - and Happy Birthday Alia!
Morning :)
By the way I tried to tell Mr C to go to sleep last night and he wouldn't listen... Tsk!
The Pole Poll is open: http://www.sofaf1.com/2010/03/australian-pole-poll.html
I saw your valiant efforts :)
The Factbyte Factbox is an awesome way to catch up. I'm annoyed I didn't do it though.
Trying to work out if I would be more or less miserable if I'd tried to stay awake.
Martin Brundle is super nice but doesn't listen to Sidepodcast
Uh oh. What have you been up to?
Martin waved to jeremy :-)
nothing. I still have my business card with Sidepodcast.com on the back
I did speak to rob. Have video. Don't tell Bernie
miserable is no good :(
Hi all!
Was practice worth the late night?
x
Have we included Elephino the Marshal as one of our reporters?
http://twitpic.com/photos/elephino_
Hello Elissa!
Well, miserable might be over-exaggerating a little. But it's hard to see Mr C do such a good job with MY Factbyte Factbox.
Especially when he's supposed to be asleep!!
But didn't Mr C develop it? :D
It was my idea.
he's such a stealer ;)
I know!
:D
hi!!
Bit scared...first time posting...
yr all far to scary! ha ha
Hello! Welcome!
We aren't scary. A bit crazy, maybe, but definitely not scary. :)
Ah another girl...yay!
Yr the like 'leader' aren't you?
Hehe, yes, I suppose I am.
I like that. Can you all address me as leader from now on please?
She's Christine from the Internet ;)
No need to be afraid of us, plenty of ladies here and we are all friendly. How has the F1 season been for you so far?
I think you might be Head Girl :)
Roger that, SidepodLeader ;)
Leader...or The Leader?
Good morning leader
Fourstar suggested Queen Bea!
That's "The Leader" to you ;)
Hi!
It's been ok thank you...i don't think Bahrain was THAT bad!
I also approve of Head Girl.
I enjoyed it being the first race back of the season and it was fun to find out what was going on. It just worried me that we're about to see a lot of the same kind of races in a row.
oooh, sorry proffessor g
;)
Do you think it was a fault of the track or the rules?
Mr crown prince whatever his name is putting in that new section..
shame as I think he's kinda sweet too...not in a fancy way though!
He does seem to be one of the nicest officials we see on the grid.
Shame he's not cute :-(
Who do you like Christine...or is that too much of a divisive subject?
Driver wise
Well, I am very fickle but in F1 currently: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/25/delicious/
Hey I was meaning driving ability but wow he's looking cute!
For a split sec I thought it was Sutil....was nearly about to slap myself.
Hehe. I don't have a favourite driver or team in terms of driving. I have a couple I don't like but other than that, I cheer for good racing.
Loving Joe's FP2 summary post title:
McLaren 2-1
Indeed. :D Joe also notes that this is the first session all year where Michael beat Nico.
Does anyone want to write a couple of paragraphs about their team for my Fantasy Racers reminder post?
Also, a very good explanation of Virgin's fuel tank mess courtesy of Mr. Allen.
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/03/awkward-moment-for-virgin-racing-over-fuel-tank-request/
What makes me wonder, though, is how Virgin ended up ordering the wrong size of fuel tank if there's fuel consumption figures to base it on? Mr. Branson will not be pleased.
We appear to be locked in the circuit
Locked in?
Traffic jam?
Morning. Just playing catchup on the overnight reports and threads..
Happy Birthday Alia
Well the RubberGoat Racing System did not have a very good day out - it was soundly beaten by it's bitter rivals from Trinidad (the Samsite Squad).
It seems that those who chose a fixed budget and picked good drivers had a distinct advantage - the top 10 teams in the league all chose the fixed strategy.
RubberGoat hopes that it's lineup changes in the Premier team make a big difference, and that not many surprises happen this weekend ;)
Is that a yes?
I did the same. Good luck :)
Well, Albert Park, in 2 practice sessions, has provided much more entertainment and 'spectacle' than the entire weekend in Bahrain.
5live crew are legends. Absolute legends.
And I have some love left for Karun and his curries, too.
I like Karun...he's my newbie team driver to support. Did he get any running in?
yes it is a yes ;)
Literally locked in. The gates were locked and the guards outside didnt have the key. We got a lift to the other side of the track where the gate was still open with some random delivery man in a truck. Sooo funny
I think it's a CFD fail in some way. You could be cynical and say that they planned to short fuel their car to make it look faster, knowing they wouldn't finish anyway...
Guest post?
Ace. Can you email it over, just some basic stuff, who you're going with and why.
Hmmm. But I would think that it isn't worth the embarrassment they're getting now...
Not too much in FP2, but in the 1st practice he got 19 laps under his belt I think.
I think he's my favourite rookie too - sounds like a top bloke, and his friendliness with Ant is only a good thing.
Ooooh, adventure! More stuff for your guest post! :D
oooo Ant was there....did have much to say about his Sebring walkover?
It was like a scene from a horror story. 4 of us sitting in the front of a truck with some strange driver. Too funny. Amy and I sat on Paul and jeremy's laps.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Hilarious!
Wait... where were the other fans?
:) I may have to skip the Daily..
They must expect to finish a lap or two down, and still it isn't big enough?
They had all left. We hung around telling Martin Brundle about sidepodcast.
blimey!
He must be locked in too!
Are you suggesting the punishment for him hearing about this is to lock him in? So he doesn't tell the others?
Nooo. It was an observation more than an instruction. Although, as Head Girl I probably have that power.
I thought you prefered 'The Leader'...... :-)
Isn't head girl...erm...laden with innuendo?
Unless that's not at all conincidental
x
Just emailed now ;)
Depends where you are from. At my school it wasn't a problem...
:-)
Well I never made head girl until I left
lol...
I think i've just about caught with all the threads now...you people write so much! it's awesome
Made it to jeremys hotel. Now ordering pizza
Is it? Oh. The Leader it is then.
Fabulous, thanks.
Hehehe, Red Bull F1 Spy:
Is the weather miserable? Yes. Are we pining for Milton Keynes? No.
http://twitter.com/redbullf1spy/status/11083291814
Excellent post, thanks Gavin. Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/26/fantasy-racers-2010-australia-reminder/
Is it? Okay. Soz.
Aw Cheers ;)
Now I'm off out for a posh lunch as my colleague is leaving today...
Ooo I don't know...i'm pretty new to this...
Hi Elissa. Are you using doohickey? http://sidepodcast.com/realtime/
Helps to keep an eye on threads after catching up.
I've created a wiki page for anyone who wants to volunteer a couple of paragraphs for future Reminder posts:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Fantasy+Racers+Reminders
Congrats on the SPC mention on the 5Live audio :)
If my new router arrives later I'll watch FP and listen for it
oooo i've never heard of that! i'll have to take a look! ty x
#MFC The times are to charge to view their website from June
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8588432.stm
They're mad...who's gonna pay?!
Following the example of another Times - the New York one.
It's a huge gamble for the broadsheets - but they think it's their best shot to recoup losses with their old-school paper format.
Oh, and welcome to SPC, Elissa! :)
Thank you! My friend Emily put me onto here...i'm not sure if she's a lurker (that right?) or a poster
x
Em, Lou's friend? If we're thinking of the same one, she posts here pretty often! Usually when she's with Lou. :D
ooo I don't know if she knows Lou...she's a scatty chick...mid 20's etc...strange obsession with Force India
No job for me as other guy more experienced. I knew that before i interviewed! {Comment #85}
Lousy stock excuse :(

She sounds like me :D
I'm on the phone to Australia
hullo elissa.
Having a great time on the phone to them all!
have you seen the grammar? you'll be hours fixing that.
I have enouraged them to, instead of phoning me, to phone the sidepodcast hotline and leave a voicemail :)
But it was a great opportunity to test the skype + radio equipment test.... Which worked great!
spc voicemail not working
hmm? should be okay. steven mentioned christine's intro has gone awol, but should be okay.
just says user not online. we can record mp3 if easier
does it not go to voicemail? grr. one sec.
it's fine here jeremy. are you ringing:
+44 121 28 87225
?
we are on skype on the macbook looking at a user called sidepodcast
we will just record an mp3. its prob our fault :-)
what?!
odd, that works fine for me too.
appreciated.
Martin was great. Norbert also signed autographs for about 5 minutes
tell.us.more! grrrrrr, i wish i were there :(
hi there....from my understanding yr the leaders man friend?
well we did wait around to 8:30pm. then ahem, got locked in
:)
:D
indeed. head boy ;)
you got a sneak peek of what melbourne would look like when it has a night race. :D
Mp3 recorded mrc Jeremy should be sending soon. May need editing :-)
you guys deserve a beer.
hmmm or some sleep
we have had coke - full strength!
you haven't heard our rambling yet :P
Back from Lunch... had schnitzel & beer ;)
Hello all, just commenting quickly from work. All hail to The Leader ;) (and The Leader's man friend)
Nice to see new commenters today, hello to everyone. Happy Birthday Alia.
Love the comment on the rankings, nice to see that the awesomeness that is Sidepodcast is being recognised.
Am out for leaving drinks tonight with work. I will apologise in advance for any drunken tweeting/facebook/comments.
I may not make live qualifying tomorrow but I know the FBFB will give me the full story. Have a good Friday :)
test
Happy Birthday Alia!
hellooooooo
it's dark on this street
Sounds good. I'm about to go for a sandwich and beer as a belated birthday thing.
I have a slow internet link so files will get to you 'soonish' Mr C
Oh happy birthday too Alia :D
Happy Birthday Pat W
let me know if you need me paul :P
enjoy :)
cheers
Oh Wow - Happy Birthday mate!
I got a place.... It's not the nicest place ever, and my last choice.... But it's an offer, a uni likes my work...
Where is it? You can still look around, right?
phew made it safe
I have spent my lunchtime doing some rather epic work* on the Live Commenting info on the wiki. Have a look around, let me know if anything is missing.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Live+Commenting+Solutions
*even if I do say so myself!
From the page:
HA! :P
True story.
good evening from down under
isn't it past midnight there already? :)
Morning! (at least here it is!) Fell asleep right before start of FP2, so watching the replay at my desk this morning. I'm really trying harder this year to watch sessions live and pair them with all of the other live streaming data available as it makes the race experience so much more interesting!
hello!
we (the sidepod friends in australia) are having breakfast at 11am tomorrow if you want to join us
This appears to be working
where will you be ?
hurrah!
in fact why the pandas are different.
I have no idea :-) probably
you have a foundation now? :D
I was trying to take a screenshot and no one was commenting.
ah... I can only apologise The Leader ;)
My kingdom for a pending box, I was saying.
cafe called 2 doors down which is under the Medina hotel at 159 Fitzroy St, St kilda. Its next to albert park.
:)
Two pints and I can't do any work! :(
Should it be Queendom? I've not really thought about it before.
hehe!
I am hooooome! Look what I diiiiiid!
http://twitpic.com/1b0rt2
I don't think so. 'Cause kings got there first and named it after them.
I have just had a really brilliant idea - Email tennis!
I think that is somewhere between my hotel and the track :-) I will see how the morning goes and what the rest of the family will want to do before I disappear for the F1 action :-)
hehe and the correct driver too ;)
How was the tour?
Tsk!
if you use twitter, then contact @amyfulton for phone numbers and email addresses.
I am happy for the leaders of sidepodcast to pass my details on to you and vice-versa if that is a better way to do it
soooo much better than last years
I won the battle with the hotel internet connection and actually managed to upload some pics from today's practice - link
Did you tell Lewis to call me?
we almost tripped over one another when lewis came into the pit
heres a couple for Lou:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc07522-medium-jpg
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc07528-medium-jpg
Thank you sooo much Amy. You rock!
I like the twitpic shortened URL - it has b0rt in it. We are out of 'Bort' licence plates in the giftshop!
sadly I spoke no words to this years wold champion. When I first went to his side of the garage after he came in he was about a metre away from me because he came out to see how much it was raining. I was just like 'woah, its Lewis, right there!'
I am in the land of bort right now ;)
Did I wave or say hi? It's all such a blur. He waved back at me yesterday at the proper autograph signing.
Has anyone else noticed that Renault are sponsored by DIAC, who are a financial institution specialising in car finance, which Renault the car company holds an interest in?
Now if that's not funny money I don't know what is ;)
The difference between autograph signing drivers and 2-minutes-before-practice drivers is amazing!
i was tempted to attempt to give him my business card :)
I thought it was fully owned - so says the Renault F1 website.
Let me guess? Super concentratred?
That's even worse!
not sure why but this trip anything internet related seems to be working against me :-) I will try to show up at the cafe if the morning situation permits
why. how is it different from mallya running kingfisher?
that hadn't occurred to me before. is it the race suit or something more?
or tony fernandes running lotus, for that matter.
... and most of the other brands on their livery
It isn't really is it?
Is that really putting money into the team or is it just cooking the books?
I thought the idea of sponsorship was that an external source provided additional funds to assist the assets of the operation?
its just a super intense focus. Plus Hamilton in his race suit looks soooo tiny but Hamilton in his team kit looks normal sized. I was just like 'wow! he's tiny!' today. I hear he has been a naughty boy tonight?
seems like common sense to fill empty space with a brand you own.
...Or is it the two pints over lunch talking?
perhaps it's the fact that they're thinking of setups and what-not? while at autograph signings, they can focus on the fans. :)
Oh?
did I hear well on the BBC radio earlier today mention of Sidepodcast ? it was way too loud with many cars at that time but I think someone was talking about you
eh?
Yeah I guess so ;)
Lee Mckenzie: Lewis hamilton sent out statement that tonight he was stopped by police for driving in "over exuberant manner" and apologises.
Yup! It's on the drop. :)
If you 'sponsor' yourself, what's happening with the money? it's just re-distributing an asset you already own isn't it?
Hehe Donuts or speeding?
why does money have to change hands at all?
Hamilton and Melbourne ... can't be without an incident :-)
It doesn't I guess...
more details from adam cooper: Lewis Hamilton is in trouble with the Melbourne place after doing burnouts with his loaned Mercedes just after he left the track Apparently they impounded the car and he has been summoned to appear tomorrow. He's already issued an apolgy by way of a press release
But Renault don't own most of RF1 now, do they? So it is effectively new money?
Donuts, and he has been summoned by police to appear tomorrow. How about at the time of quali :-) ?
oops. he could loose that car if Vic police are anything to go by
Of course! It's mostly Genii Capital now isn't it?
So I guess it's different to the FIF1 situation then.
Is it kinda cool drivers are caught pushing accpetable limits on roads?
no.
Meh :-)
Merc will just lend him another one. Hehe.
Summoned to appear tomorrow? I'm expecting that to conveniently get delayed to Monday... :D
Agreed. They should get their kicks on the racetrack rather than the road...
I don't think so - they might be able to cope with what they do but you have to consider that most other road users do not have the same abilities.
Oh I hope it don't wreck his qualifying
How is doing burnouts illegal? I see enogh chavs do them round our town center and the police don't bother them
i am still here monday. i will defend him!
according to autosport it was on Lakeside Drive, half of which is part of the circuit and the other half of which is the exit from the drivers car park and is a closed road to the public so maybe he thought he was safe. Still very silly though.
well, they're better drivers than most. and likely know the limits of the car.
burnouts in an empty street are fun :)
Or in snow ;)
did he know it wasn't the circuit?
hmmm i bet they were just waiting to catch someone then.
I have sent link for mp3 to mr c email address as well as amy and pam. paul, i don't seem to have your email addy - can you text it please
I would have defended him, but he wouldn't call me.
Can you imagine the Crown Prosecutor - "Don't believe this man's story, he has lied under oath before!!!"
:) :)
the Mr C defence?
yeah, it seems odd they would pull someone over on a closed road that is really only used by the drivers.
The SPC shoutout is awesome!
done
It's happened before at Rallies...
received. ta.
no, we hadnt been driking
Ah I could slap Lewis!
He better not ruin any points for the team....I hope hope hope he's still able to qualify tomorrow...
Tell me they won't summon him during a practice/qualifying session...
I bet Whitmarsh is having a PR meltdown...Ron will be on the phone..
they wont get a judge in for that on a saturday :)
Go Lewis!
As a hoon, i think its awesome that he enjoys his driving. I want to be all politically correct and say he did a bad thing but i trust his judgement that it was safe. i wonder who was in the car with him.
it will be a while before mr c stops ROFLing enough to read your comment
Excuse my lack of Oz knowledge...what's a HOON?
i has no audio at the moment. can confirm the file was attached. will listen about 7pm.
obnoxious driver who does burnouts etc. Usually teenager or early twenties. quite often wearing flannelette shirt or hoodie. Fellow Aussies, is this a good enough definition?
Ah...we call them Chav's over here...
from adam c:
Local police may have been a little jumpy because this morning a famous Melbourne restaurant owner was killed in a motorcycle accident just yards away from where Lewis was stopped.
http://adamcooperf1.com/2010/03/26/hamilton-in-trouble-with-aussie-police/
the only email I got was the one thats on the drop?
someone who enjoys driving even though his/her actions may seem crazy to others?
oh my!
noooooo!
it should be ipod touch friendly
oh, never thought of that. gimme 5.
ahh here is the story about that. That chain is everywhere.
boo! will resend.
did you get an email paul?
i dont know why I'm so keen for you to listen. we skyped Alex we were so excited :)
Y'know, it never ceases to amuse that to us F1 fans, Ron is always Ron but Martin is always Whitmarsh...
"Police sources would only confirm that a 25-year-old British citizen and resident of Switzerland would be charged on summons after an incident at 9.15 pm."
is that right, mr "all the drivers have left" security guard man?
isn't that because dennis can be a first name too?
martin could be brundle, also.
oops email address fail. Have txtwd it again
"There can be only Ron."
Is that because Ron was his own man where as Whitmarsh is the amalgmation of 20 years worth of PR traning courses/surveys etc and is basically a little Vanilla??
I take this chance to say "heres a photo I prepared earlier" :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc07543-medium-jpg
amalgamation!
excuse my spelling! x
oh thats the wrong photo. Fail.
:)
I meant this one!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc07541-medium-jpg
have sent again to amy and paul
oh, that martin. was hoping for brundle.
(seewhatimean?)
that has to be the funniest thing.... in the world!
It's Kimi and Schumi and Tim and Jamie and Lewis and Webber and Rubens and...
Some are first names some are surnames.
Go Hamilton sounds like I support a town/city in New Zealand!
Note: some may not be the drivers actual names
:D
:)
Some are not even their names.
doh! I only just got that. I must be tired
he came out when it was dark and my camera couldn't handle that because I was too far away for a flash :( so this is the best I could do: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dscn1663-medium-jpg
when Jaime was at the autograph stage and wouldn't look up at all I started yelling out TIM! TIM! and he looked up at one stage :D
So just so you all know... I am really really looking forward to this weekend's Giggles Radio... If you haven't tuned in / aren't sure about tuning in / give it a go this weekend. Great music and waffle what more could you want?
I have been listening to the music selection all week this week. I is clearly a good letter.
also, the next (third) time I see Crofty I promise to actually realise its him before he walks off and stop going "I think thats him...I'm not sure...is that him?"
I have now done that twice.
Last time we saw him, he was swearing like a trooper, so that might help you recognise him.
we know what the back of him looks like now
celeb spotting is hard
Oh, I haven't prepared by BSB reference guide for I yet.
To sum up this news: Sydney once again tries to steal race from me, NSW local Webber tells them to shut up
look out for jason. he looks like this: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/04/08/so-you-want-to-be-a-racing-driver/
both times I've been like "i think thats him" and then Ant has been right behind him and I've gone 'oh yes, that was him' so if Ant isn't around I get confused.
There is a guaranteed BSB track in this weeks show!
Karun will be going up in the ratings this week...
I wonder why...

Wow...
Is it Mr C's favourite?
oh no!
I vote that it stays in melbourne. I may have to move here one day!!!
Didn't realise you were broadening scope to include British Superbikes...
Melbourne all the way...why fix something that isn't broke?
Hehehe!
Only in the Herald Sun would the news use the word "blowhard"
It's an outreach program
oops, before i head off, happy birthday alianora :) {Comment #115}
Thank you, lukeh, Rubbergoat, Paul, Jeremy, Janna and Pat W :)
I've just had tomato soup for lunch and I'm going out for a celebratory meal with my parents this evening.
Cadwell? Thruxton?
lamb shanks make an excellent birthday meal. I hope you can find them (if you like them)
:)
Happy Birthday Alianora!
I'm going to sleep. Hope tomorrow (today) is as good as thie past day was
But not lamb Shanks & Bigfoot. You don't want it tasting 'sweet like chocolate'.
#ObscureLate90sPop
Happy belated birthday Pat W :)
Is it terrible not only do I know the tune I can still picture the video?
Hehe.
Speed garage – beastly genre
I got a place.... It's not the nicest place ever, and my last choice.... But it's an offer, a uni likes my work...{Comment #255}
This is good news, lou. I was thinking all the universities had ceased operations of common sense regarding admissions - at least one of them can see the blatantly obvious talent you have for what it is...
I was 19 or 20 and some of it went quite well with alcohol. Catchy.
Thanks, same to you but not belated :)
so I just went to lunch, chicken sandwich and a half of bitter with the other office staff... one of whom is off for maternity leave and brought her baby, so babies and weights and things were the topic for much of the hour. would've sort of preferred to have stayed here.
Argh! People always get upset with me when they tell me baby weights and I'm like: "Is that big?"
As if I'm meant to know these things.
I thought it was fully owned - so says the Renault F1 website.
That's even worse!
why. how is it different from mallya running kingfisher? {Comment #302}
Because Mallya bought Spyker partly as a vehicle for advertising his companies. Did Renault buy Bennetton to advertise the subsidiaries? Maybe (or maybe part of the purpose has changed in recent years), but nobody at the team has thought to tell us.
The idea that a fully owned subsidiary can sponsor a team part-owned by the subsidiary's owner is no problem at all to me. However, I do prefer teams that are prepared to be at least somewhat transparent concerning their activities.
the correct answer is always "awwwww".
can't go wrong with that.
I feel for you! My friends are always inviting me to baby showers and asking when i'm next etc?
Nope....adoption...the way forward :-)
If you 'sponsor' yourself, what's happening with the money? it's just re-distributing an asset you already own isn't it? {Comment #317}
It's a bit like when one department of a company spends the income generated by another part, but replacing "department" with "company". Vijay Mallya probably considers his whole conglomerate as one big meta-company that happens to have several dozen registrations (one per "meta-department").
It was that, and also what its like to do things with them around, and putting the other kid into school, and losing weight afterwards.
Hello, I am a single male and we're out for my birthday.
#needy
Yea, but then they bring them in and you end up in Pat's position, having to aww at the actual baby.
Far better to be disinterested from the outset.
they did enough of that as it was
Eurgh babies..... I hate people who talk about nothing but their babies.
why does money have to change hands at all? {Comment #319}
Red tape. Governmental regulations. Largely so that the tax system doesn't completely unravel.
I've never got why women do that! I'd never want my work lot prying their beady eyes over any nippers I may have!
I especially get all hoity toity when I have collections shoved in my face at work for christenings etc...sorry but i'm a tight bird! He can pay ha ha
well, yeah. you can't really go "eeeeww!"
you could point out that the person in question very likely reducing the life of the planet considerably by bringing another person into the world, and that their carbon footprint just went through the roof.
not sure that'll go down too well either.
I love the general SPC attitude towards babies. You all rock!
i can haz ipad instead?
I'm like "well maybe I'll get one eventually, I just don't care about yours"
No. One of our people is having twins and got signed off from work yesterday extra early because of stress or whatever. She came round hugging everyone goodbye.
I just said bye. I think we're meant to be happy that she's getting a month off just because she decided to procreate.
"..at least until they can talk"
Yay!
I think god hasn't designed my body to cope with babies!!
so that means when someone goees awww look at him...I go 'meh'
We are slightly more receptive to Sidepodbabies. We may have awwed about Andy's child.
You deserve a medal for that! High 5!
says the man who is trying to be my parent so I don't die!
The Mummy Mafia always get their own way too!
It's like "I have a kid, so I should decide my shifts!"
ooh, she gets to watch phil and holly.
:)
Did you give my friend Anthony from MacTalk money? He is bringing some back from New York for other Australians (not me). Crazy trip of a lifetime right there!
you need me as much as i need you
I would have had something to eat, eventually!
hadn't considered that. on the other hand, if the alternative is more holidays then that must be preferable?
Yup, and read books and basically sit around all day.
I was jealous for about five minutes, till I realised she ends up with two screaming children to look after.
Not.Worth.It.
Maybe - unless you are not part of the Mafia!
:D
But who will continue the sidepodway?
it must be more than a month though, or is she coming back the next day?
three months of holly and phil, the sims and reading books. that's not a bad deal.
like bernie, we'll just live forever.
Mm. I wasn't specifically mad about the maternity leave because that's a whole other thing. It was the extra month because there are two of them.
I'd be up for watching Holly for 3 months...although she's far too pretty for her own good.... :-)
I wonder if Holly talks about her baby all the time.
he talks f1 with jake.
(once)
*she
Very rarely I think, my mates obsessed with Heat magazine (yes another zeleb lover) and she's always fawning over Holly...you never she her pictured with her kids or here them mentioned in interviews..apart from ...i love my kids etc...
Meh
So cars!! lol
i should be asleep. I am not (repeat, NOT) looking at video taken today. Sorry Bernard :P

I should be too but I am watching my download of practice as my wireless keeps dropping and I have to keep moving to get the signal back!
did you get my email eventually?
nope
boo. it seems to be playing up. sent it to your gmail. will try again tomorrow. Mr C got his copy.
Is it as good as Phil and Fern? I think there are a load of dodgy soaps and gameshows too. And the Jerry Springer ripoff merchants.
Now see here:

New site. It will have some stuff by me on it.
Goodness me, that's bright! :)
very pretty. i like!
You're a paddock spy!
And Holly S is writing too.
email has arrived, jeremy
She is.
Was supposed to go live before Bahrain, but got held up at the fine tuning/client feedback stage.
Is the role of GPDA Chairman so taxing now that a test driver (who has free time on his hands) has to take the role?
Probably nothing more than coincidence, but all 3 are friendly with Schumi. :)
i feel like i dominated that audio a bit too much. #needslessjeremy
Will have to go to some GPs now. Oh dear!
If the FIA approves, accreditation may follow for a couple of events...
I love how it's all Ferrari at the top and McLaren has been shunted to the very bottom of the page. :D
Morning folks. Seems lewis got himself into trouble with the police in australia. Crash.net has a report on it.
That's what DLR was saying the other day, he couldn't do it because his race driver duties were too much to do both
So has Autosport:
The McLaren driver did a burnout and a fishtail in a Mercedes car along Lakeside Drive in Melbourne and as a result he was pulled over by police.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82412
it occurs to me, that it's slightly poor timing given the FIA's new "make roads safe" campaign.
Hmmm. I find this a bit odd, considering before DLR, Schumi held the Chairmanship for the longest time and had no problem balancing it with his work. And before him, Senna was supposed to be the Chairman for a lot longer than he ended up being one.
Oh, those branding guidelines.
Ginga has just stopped by with the following delicious proposition: if I ring up to interview someone for the site, and they’re not expecting my call, I’ll be able to say “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!”
ace.
nice one.
Ah, no internet at work, playing catchup at the airport
the report in our paper says "Hamilton was visibly upset as his car was towed away. It's understood he told police he was worried the incident would dent his reputation.
"It would have been fair to say he was fairly disappointed," Sen-Constable Scott Woodford said."
A witness said the 2008 world Grand Prix champion tried to hide his face from spectators.
He said as he approached the driver, Hamilton slumped down and tried to hide.
"That's when I got there. He had his head between his legs. He looked like he was thinking 'oh my God, what the hell', " said the witness.
Hamilton will be charged by summons with improper use of a vehicle.
His car was impounded by the Traffic Management Unit.
The witness told the Herald Sun police ushered the star into the back of an unmarked police car for an interview.
"It was pretty cool to watch. He was hiding in his car," the witness said. "They (police) knew who he was."
But perfect timing with 'unintended acceleration' being in the news...
Hahaha! :D
ahh yes. maybe it's all an inside ruse.
One day something will happen and you won't think it's a conspiracy.
oops.
I have a full race weekend this weekend so ill have to play catchup on f1 when I can =/
:-)
With all this Macca and Red Bull PR stuff going on I'm sure someone will suggest it soon!
cant he just say the cruise control went haywire? His reputation or Mercedes? McLaren bought back most of the team didn't they? :P
I blame Jeremy for touching his car.
Must have reprogrammed the ECU. Was Ron involved too?
That seems fair.
I wish Ron was here. My list of people I want to see is shrinking after todays Rob and Whitmarsh and Jackie. It's pretty much just Ron and Mika now.
The Microsoft ECU? I think I'm fired on Monday :P
Me too!
:D

my only complaint about the santander site. how do i tell if this post was written by holly or nira?

Someone with style issues
Grosjean has landed in GT racing, taking Enrique Bernoldi's seat after he fell out with the team owner..

mediatemple say they'll be performing updates during qually.
apparently it won't affect web hosting.
http://weblog.mediatemple.net/weblog/category/system-incidents/1211-mt-infrastructure-upgrades/
i'm betting that it will.
Ta. I don't have the keys to the CMS at the mo but someone will fix.
It has all come together very quickly so there are bound to be a few functional 'issues' here and there. Keep me posted and I'll keep them posted...
Did they pay attention to your pleases before or has that not happened yet?
tis all good.
it reads as though holly wrote it, so i'm guessing there was a shortage of pics and they went with nina instead.
this is different. this is just a poorly timed upgrade.
Ah. But did they?
hedgehog says their f-duct does require interaction:
"The driver has to activate the system. You can do it with the knee, you can do it with your hand. You just have to make sure you activate the system. The whole purpose is to gain top speed."
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82395
not yet.
ooh: "We will provide you with further progress updates on Friday March 26th by end of day, if not before."
so that'll no doubt be smack in the middle of the race then :)
AMY!!
if you are still here, what did you think of the video I sent you a link to?
I have this image of him as a one-man band...
There will be some tweaks to the navigation next week, I think. Maybe some D Heath pictures too. Only problem is budget: because it's multilingual, every piece of content has to be translated, y'see.
it is loading but if it is what I think it is I love it :D
i did see the menu, but your post remains in english no matter what i select?
Have sent to Mr C as well. Just for laughs. Trying to subtly video stuff is how I explain my poor video camera skills.
heheh needs more from in the garage!
Uh oh. May be time for me to put on a tin hat, slide out of view, turn the phone off...
I must sleep now. I'm going to be a mess tomorrow :)
i saw nothing.
except my video which you wont show Christine
ahh no. i'll do all that when i gets home. i can't hind nothing from her there.
Hello everyone. Good to see di Resta doing a neat job.
Lewis

I think the Red Bull will be quick but something tells me grumpy Seb is gonna break his car again....
Nice to see someone has more faith in Schumi than me. :D
I have faith. Mainly because I've drawn him in the sweepstake...
I think he'll outdoo Nico this weekend and with grumpy Seb going to go off the road I think he'll pick up the final podium place....
Something tells me Mr Webber will not be in the top 6...he has dire luck and this is Oz remember!
You're not factoring Massa or Button in, though?
Exactly why I avoided him. :D
he is allowed to do well this weekend. he is not allowed to win though.
I'm doing the bet-on-your-opponent strategy. that way, even if my Fantasy goes bust, I'll still be overjoyed. :D
i should've done that from 2000-2004. i'd still have been miserable. but significantly richer.
:D not to mention they paid out early in 02 and 04. ;)
didn't know that.
they did. for 04, i specifically remember them paying out early - after Round 5, to be exact, when Schumi won the first 5 in a row, they just gave up.
Button.....hmm...ok! He'll be a solid top 8 finish...you really think he'll do Lewis?
Yeah I think Felippe is my random one this weekend, he never typically has great Oz races...I think a godo solid 4th
With Lewis a tad distracted, this might be his best chance.
I like Jenson but he moans far too much for my liking...put a sock in it JB and just drive
I'm finding his interviews a little cringey as he's trying not to sound like he's moaning...but still ends up sound like he's moaning
:-)
I love all the drivers except for one....Jarno Trulli
Why no love for Jarno? :D
gotta love jarno, he has photographic evidence for every occasion.
right, 3.30am, time for bed!
Epic late! :P
Night, Amy. :)
Apart from being the biggest hypocrite on the grid...ie complaining about drivers 'weaving' in the braking zones and then doing the same, the whole Sutil incident last year...my biggest reason is he comes across so bitter towards anyone better...seems to have very little nice things to say about others...
The clincher for me....when other teams work out race strategies based on if they're stuck behind Trulli it says it all!!
In short... slow and moany....not attractive.
on Thursday I walked straight past him to get to Heikki, I was the only person who didn't get them both to sign something. Apparently he noticed too. #sorryJarno.
Careful he don't mail yuou a huge dossier detailing how it's all your fault you missed him...
Grr...my bloods boiling already at the mention of his name....
He noticed? How do you know?
no wine for amy
hehe.
But some whine from Jarno...
Night Amy.
:)
the other 3 were in the line watching what was happening on stage :D
You mean Pamela, Paul, and Jeremy? Ahhh, that makes sense then. :D
my laptops on and i just walked past; saw this,
I think that deserves a handshake Mr RG
bravo!
Thanking you :)
Hi everyone, i'm back from lunch with a friend.. i have about 2 hours before i have to go out and celebrate another friend's birthday lol
(hearts) Amy :)
Success, replacement Home Hub installed. v2 is better than v1
yay :)
*waves to lurkers* i hope you're having a nice friday evening :)
It's weird as I have never thought of him this way but I do think (sorry lou) that he has been rather over exposed this year by Macca...
He has done at least two interviews/PR stunts for every one of Lewis's unless each interview has led to two stories rather than one.....
Last year Heikki was soo far below the radar he was virtually unseen... a virtual Heikki... whilst Lewis was everywhere....
I've been thinking this has been an amazing turn around by Lewis and wondered if it was a bit of a bid to avoid over exposure after the first three years had us rather "over Lewised".... but now we are "over Buttoned"...
Has anyone else noticed this?...
And I do realise that everyone would say that I would not complain if it were Kimi...and that's true... but perhaps that's partly because PR over exposure of Kimi in PR stunts and interviews ain't going to happen....
Hey everyone,
What an interesting day in the life of Formula 1... how is everyone?
F1 was so long ago i've almost forgotten what happened :D hehe i'm alright, what about you?
not too bad - just in the door. i had to significantly rearrange my sleeping to accommodate both work and f1, but i've survived once more
:)
Hello all, just catching up with FP! and FP2 on iplayer, well done whoever got the sidepodcast mention!
I am sure this has been discussed before, but I cant find it at the moment... why does Schumacher appear on the graphics as MSC? Must be a good reason, but I can't think of one!
Goes back to when Ralf was racing - couldn't have two "Sch"'s, so it became MSC and RSC and has stayed like that ever since
Goes back to the time there were two SCHs...
Hmm, seems a bit odd, I we don't muddle the current Bruno with Ayrton, I know they could never have raced at the same time, but it seems strange to be affected by a driver no longer taking part!
I will trust you are right though!
For some reason I put a £2 bet on Sutil winning the race on Sunday, I must have lost my mind...
Ralf still uses RSC.
He has just started a team in GP3 with team Mucke called MSC Mucke Motorsport.
Off Course it should be RSC Mucke Motorsport.
Am I right?.. I make it 6am in Oz on the other side of the globe...
That means that Mr Di Grassi didn't get his zzz's until 1am.....
Looking to see who is the first one up and twittering...
am off to a friends 18th... speak to you all later!! xx
Evening.
evening lukeh
For continuity I think.
Hello all!
hey ya j.
in what ways?
The illustrious head of FOTA.. our Martin.. is using the dread term k-j on 5Live at present...
That's knee jerk...
So they won't be doing anything then..
Mr Whitmarsh doesn't want any wheel banging...
Bless..
Excruciatingly funny...
Crofty saying that Oz is never boring for Lewis...
And Lewis saying it is eventful...
This was JUST before he left the track in his Merc...
Easier to install (the CD isn't buggy bloatware).
More ethernet ports so now I can have my NAS drive on it as well as the PC and Vision box.
The onboard software is easier to use (although perhaps fewer options).
And it looks nicer, curvy with blue lights instead of blocky with green. :) Bit smaller too.
Evening all
Hi Joe & Steven
:)
ace!
howdy.
I think the cop must have been looking to make a name for himself. Impounding a car for a little wheelspin is over the top. A slap on the wrists would have been enough. No need to make an international incident out of it.
I'm trying to work out how to configure the NAS over network. While cooking dinner. And watching FP1.
did you hear there was a fatal accident at the spot earlier in the day?
i'm still half convinced it's a scam to plug the fia's "make roads safer" pitch.
No. I just don't believe he would have been doing anything dangerous. Probably just spinning the wheels for some fans. I am glad there were no cops like that round here when I was younger.
agreed. it fills a few news bulletins though. it could be worse, people could be saying f1 is boring :)
:D
It's not exactly Villeneuve and Pironi going from Monaco to Maranello with the passengeer holding a stopwatch to time how long the driver could keep his foot on the floor and passing cars on and off the road and going for the tightest gaps at 150 mph.
tweet from renault:
Did you know we published blogs from our fans, too? http://cot.ag/c1wUX6 Come on aspiring writers and Renault fans, get scribbling ;-)
Just listening to Ant towards the end of FP1 where he's talking about how Bahrain was 'toe in the water' and teams will know what to do this week with qualifying and with making positions on lap 1. I have a feeling lap 1 could be carnage...
which will bring out the safety car. who will gamble on the softs, lose them on lap one and not need to stop again?
the race could easily be over 1 minute after the start. yay for qually :)
FanS??...
After a week with my vegetarian sister & boyfriend, I've made up for it with a steak and an original Guinness
I expected that at the last race
Everyone in Q3.. and perhaps the rest of the grid will start on softs too because they'll expect an early safety car. You don't want to stay out when everyone else pits, unless you can rebuild a lead after the SC. In theory the softs should do that over the hards but it didn't happen in Bahrain because new hards overruled worn softs..
did amy know there was cake?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/cake-jpg
I've done a blog entry - a quick reminder of what the flags mean for the drivers who appear to have forgotten...
the cops here are a bit nuts about this sort of thing. They want to be a or to crush cars of people that do burn outs
cake? We need to get in the padock again!

No. It's just that the test drivers seem to be more enthusiastic about doing the job at the moment...
Also, Schumi isn't in the GPDA any more because he thinks that the current members are doing a good job (or something like that).
Morning all. I have added some more pics to dropio from yesterday. 4 sidepodders in the McLaren pit; Martin, Christian & Jackie in the paddock; and someone who may or may not be Ted.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast
I am not happy with the shuffle. For the GPDA to have the power it should you need more senior drivers in the important positions. Test drivers being chairman is pathetic and there are better people to be figureheads
Hi Adie
I find this a bit odd, considering before DLR, Schumi held the Chairmanship for the longest time and had no problem balancing it with his work. And before him, Senna was supposed to be the Chairman for a lot longer than he ended up being one. {Comment #484}
Not to mention DC and Ralf Schumacher have also combined F1 with GPDA directorship just fine. I seem to recall de la Rosa got voted into the directorship with considerable reluctance in the first place, so maybe it's not surprising that he wanted to get out of the role as soon as decently possible.
Thanks Pamela
Despite the fact that Nick has been a F1 driver for a good 10 seasons?
Hey Adie
I am not happy with the shuffle. For the GPDA to have the power it should you need more senior drivers in the important positions. Test drivers being chairman is pathetic and there are better people to be figureheads {Comment #614}
To me it should be whoever among the membership would make the best director, whether they'd been in the sport for 1 race weekend or 1000. I'll give Nick some time before judging him.
Paul,
You have no idea what lengths are gone to in Victoria policing the road rules ! The leeway for speeding is 3km and doesn't matter if that's at 50km or on a freeway at 110km, and it slso doesn't matter that Australian design rules don't call for speedo's to be that accurate. They have contractors with speed camera's everywhere............
It really is a Police state when it comes to motoring, it is zero tolerance for everything ! It would be nice if they spent the same amount of time chasing real crimes.................
I have lived in many of Australia's states and territory's (incl VIC) and I can only ask that you don't judge the rest by Victoria's over zealous and revenue grabing actions on the poor motorist's. The real offensive part is that Australia is a VERY large country and personal vehicle transport is a must. Public transport is rubbish and mismanaged. It could do with some Police input in resolving the crime..............
He is not exactly a top driver and Vettel is too young. Schumacher got thrown in at the deep end after Senna died even though he was quite young but he had least was a world champion and was clearly the top driver.
So, Lewis got pulled over for Hoonage (sp?) Will the car get crushed?
joe says it best: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/03/26/lewis-the-hoon/
oooh. thanking ya.
cheers darryl. appreciate the background. sounds somewhat OTT :(
It got impounded for 48 hours. Not quite sure what the point to that is as it is not like he can't afford to hire another
I hope he got the comprehensive insurance! But I think he could afford it either way.
anyone betting the cops have been doing donuts in the impound yard?

for lou:
I am sure that Jenson had plenty of things that he would rather have been doing, but he is a model World Champion and did the necessary with grace and style, which is not something that one can say about a number of his predecessors.

Must read what the leader has posted ;)
I have a feeling lap 1 could be carnage... {Comment #600}
It wouldn't be a surprise, seeing as that corner's seen 5 accidents in the last 5 years...

It's the inconvenience factor. You tend to remember the times when you hire a car because your silly behaviour lost you access to your normal one. Somehow I doubt Lewis will ever repeat this mistake (except on track where such "mistakes" are appreciated, of course).
For you and me in that situation it would be inconvenient but for him it is just a phone call if that. The car probably belongs to Mercedes anyway so they will either give him another or he will be driven for the rest of the weekend.
What if the Magistrate calls him in to court for a 5pm (local) hearing?
heeh!
Then Bernie will get upset and Melbourne will lose the race
jeremy aid they don't work saturdays.
*said.

I don't see how that is more relevant than the facts that Heidfeld is actually willing to do the job (something that doesn't apply to most of his peers), is capable of talking sense and is sufficiently unobtrusive and diplomatic not to get up the FIA's noses?
that's almost a headping. Hiiii!!! Yay for jenson being awesome :)

It's still an inconvenience. It's one thing he wouldn't have to do if he'd been sensible.
Good Evening all.
Can anyone tell me who Di Resta replaced for FP today?
Sutil apparently
Hi all
ta, does it change each weekend?
What if the Magistrate calls him in to court for a 5pm (local) hearing? {Comment #635}
I doubt that will happen. More likely the hearing would be on Monday (or at least Sunday after the race), thus extending the time this is in the air and giving the authorities time to decide exactly what to do about it. Wouldn't surprise me if Lewis was asked to do some sort of road safety promotion work, either in addition to or instead of some normal part of the punishment.
I think the fact that the top drivers are not prepared to put the effort in is shocking. If there is a dispute there are drivers far more able than Heidfeld to get the drivers' point across. If you look at the history the GPDA has been successful when it has had a strong, vocal leader.
Hi Lou
Sutil
I assume so
Evening
ta, does it change each weekend? {Comment #645}
It's supposed to (I think the plan is alternate replacements, though now he's only doing 17 rather than 18 races this may prove difficult).
it must be my mclaren weekend. Just had breakfast with a guy who used to work at mclaren building the F1 (road car)
I love that car
Go to your suppliers with a target weight and say "make this for me but it needs to weigh 25% less"

And it's not had one since Schumacher, and even he was a bit muted because of his strong links to the FIA.
Things are improving compared to a few years back though - there's probably only a dew drivers who aren't members, and apart from Schumi the non-members are those who can't afford to join (note that some people who you might expect not to be able to afford membership, such as Chandhok, are members of the GPDA).
evening folks
I does have returned....
:)
Is it sleeps before quali for the night owls tonight?
I'm thinking I'll try to wake up, watch in bed and then have another few hours before work
Hi Leigh
didn't last night. have to tonight. bye all.
Night fella
I'm just going to test the wifi upstairs on my new netbook to see if i can watch in bed :)
Up for work at normal time as usual for me, I just have the added bonus of qualifying :)
night
tis for me. i could stay up all the way through, but I'd probably fall asleep midway through Q1, even after heavy doses of caffeine.
hi all & night all
its not breakfast time yet! ;)
I will probably be late because I'm still in bed.
Hi & bye SB
you're listening to what i said? :P
im sure the court system will be sensible though
hi bassano,
how are you?
Not bad, just got in from work
Need to chill some before attempting pre-quali sleep
How was your St Pat's?
This was first breakfast
Nope
Good night
If I wasn't working tomorrow, I'd be doing the same :(
Quiet - a mate of mine was leaving London to go back to home to his folks, so it was slightly sombre to be honest
#sameperson (but taller)
Ooooohh - hello sidepodcast on the Renault F1 site
;)
ahh good plan. I wouldn't be surprised if Jeremy has first breakfast at McDonalds too.
not today! I'll be surprised if I make it to the restaurant by 11, but I'll try
Will stop commenting now. That might help :-)
You could have cold pizza?
All gone! ate it last night. remembered to put boxes out in hall. bye for now
Question to all; what do we think of the Times/Sunday Times move to subscription news?
Overpriced in the market butI guess they're desperate [And Murdoch wants to rinse everyone's wallet]
Hmmmm.....
Not sure I'm that bothered - there's still so many news outlets. Their real value lies in their commentary and specialised articles
Stupid idea but it won't affect me, don't care for the Times. Same old Ruper Murdoch.
I think th iPad will help a lot of people get accustomed to paying for more media in this fashion. Just as the iPod did
It will fail spectacularly because no-one is going to pay
Not so sure about that. I guess I'm just one of many that cannot see the point of the iPad and I can't see how it would change people's perception of paying for media
I think thats where i sit, its the way things are going and i think thats positive but it dosent work as a business model if what you want is already free elsewhere.
i hope so.
Question to Jon.
Are you putting in a TMR entry this week?
Lotus does IRL (with KVR)
http://twitpic.com/1b4a08
Yay the Doctor is on Wossy :)
oooh forgot about that, had a hectic week and been ill for the past 2 days, will do it now
One of the newspapers in America tried the paywall. After 6 months they had 35 paid up subscribers
Those colours look good
I can see the FT & WSJ having some moderate success though
Wall Street Journal has been a big success but that is an entirely different market. People make money from that info and in many cases companies are buying the subscriptions
I agree but I think this is where RM has got it wrong because the model works for the financial news and consumers will take a lot of convincing
I really should get some sleep before practice - I've been up since pre-practice 2...
Catchya later Leigh
Unfortunately Bassano, I'm so awake I'm not sure I can drop off - my sleeping patterns can be a bit....... weird
That happens a lot here :)
This is an old condition I'm afraid. Up until about two weeks ago I was living on 4-5 hours every night, but my sleep has been fine up until the last few days.
Back on the exhaustion grind again it would seem.
