Of course today all our thoughts are with Massa, and we're hoping for more good news updates from the hospital. However, it is still race day and we should still enjoy what we can of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Here's what we're talking about at the moment:
- Alguersuari did pretty well, no? The engine failure scuppered him a bit, but even he says the aim of the weekend is simply to finish the race. I guess the big question now is whether Bourdais would have done well with the new car updates.
- The McLarens didn't manage to keep up their Free Practice pace, but they didn't do so badly either. Both qualified in the top ten, and with the added benefit of KERS (are they the only ones using it now?) they could make some progress today.
- The other major question is what the weather will be like. So far we have seen really hot conditions, and also some cooler and more windy conditions as well. The temperatures will make all the difference in the race, so I can't wait to see how that will pan out too.
That's all for now. If you're watching the race, please join us in the live comments, and let us know how you're watching. If not, you can tune in to the digest later to get a full recap of the action. I'll see you in the comments.
Hello, what is this? A new daily thread for a new day.
You mean to tell me it's....sunday....?
at last! blimey today feels like two days rolled into one.
Apparently so. Don't tell Mr C though. He thought it was Sunday yesterday. Gos knows what he'll make of today.
as long as he doesn't think it's thursday he'll be alright ;)
How di that happen. It appeared just like magic
Who is Gos? :D
Davidson's car in the Spa 24hr race is now up in 4th! ehehe :D
How long to go?
14hrs 19mins...
Still plenty time to get on the podium
Are there any links to watch the Spa race lou?
I was using the FIA GT home page one but it disappeared a few hours ago.
By the way Christine don't forget, Ferrari using KERS too :)
very quickly, before we sleeps. from claire on twitter:
"Rob [Smedley] has spoken to [Massa's] brother about ten mins ago and [Massa] is doing well. well. He is in a medical induced coma after the trauma to his head and the surgery to his skull which I think is normal after that sort of thing... but he is completely stable and the surgery went really well. It was so so scary today and I can imagine the fans were so upset - Rob was so shaken up about it and really upset. "
i'm not sure when Ant is next in the car but i have a feeling it is going to be the stint i am sleeping for...
Great news, thanks for that
aww that's really comforting, thank you Mr C, i'll be able to sleep much better hearing that. Rob did look really upset.
I wonder how Massa's brother is coping with it all, he is quiet young isn't he?
At least the reports are being fairly positive. It was a massive accident and so many complications could still occur one has to remain worried. I remain hopefully all the while we get reports like this. However, it is clear the injuries were worse that what was first reported.
Does Claire have a Ferrari connection?
not sure, but she got the info from this forum thread. am trusting it's legit.
have only been following claire for a couple of weeks, but she seems like a good person. don't know much about the forum either, but other posters that follow appear to trust the source.
Ah, thanks
Sounds like she knows Rob Smedley's wife
Rich is right. While it is of course great to hear all's good with Felipe, he is by no means out of the dark woods yet.
Now I feel like an idiot. All is NOT good with Felipe, but it could be worse.........I should just ssh sometimes.
i do that too!
I think a lot of us jumped to conclusions. Mostly down to the sensationalist reporting by some of the more "respected" media outlets.
Let's hope he's alright, always seems like a decent bloke and a good racer too.
Here I was talking to myself on the other form.
You not using Doohickey, it's the future don't you know?
Except during races and live shows ;)
I think he would bring a lot more stability to the team, if things didn't go right for Villeneuve you could be sure he'd be up in arms over it.
Paired with a young US driver, Wurz could help direct the team for the first couple of years.
You can only comment on the info you have at the time. Hopefully he will be like Wendlinger and make a good recovery.
to answer your comment from the other thread.
I think Wurz would be much better than JV tbh, and i think it was the BBC that today during their build up had an interview with Peter Windsor who said although they wanted American drivers that there was no point rushing.I got the idea that maybe they'll be happy to wait for some american drivers rather than push them through, but make it their overall aim for the future of the team. Probably a little similar to the way VJ seems keen to give any Indian drivers a chance in the future.
Since Dan has now changed days I will post this on this thread
I am surprised they have gone for someone with no American profile. That is clearly his biggest negative.
On the positive side he has more recent experience and McLaren were prepared to almost perpetually pay him 7 figures to develop their cars even when it meant building a special lengthened chassis for him. That tells you everything you need to know about ability, attitude etc.
The other thing worth considering is that he fronted a team that applied for a grid slot so he may have people and a budget from that, that can be made available to USF1.
Weren't Ferrari not using KERS here? If they were, wouldn't that have hindered the accident scene?
That's a good point Joe, isn't it mounted in the front of the car?
They were using KERS.
Oh.
So they can switch it off from the cockpit?
Does it not auto deplete on impact?
I believe the marshals can also switch it off externally as with the Neutral button on the front.
That'd be pretty smart. I'd guess you're right.
They couldn;t discharge the batteries though
My understanding is that Wurtz is on the shopping list while JV is not. It is based on wanting a driver with good technical skills, while the second driver will be less experience and preference for an "American". What I find interesting is I thought that Wurtz wanted to give up F1 due to family commitments etc.
I think that Wurz was more forced out at Williams due to the needs of Toyota more than he wanted to retire.
I think the other driver will be an American. I think the difference between the two nationalistic teams (Force India and USF1) is that the USF1 can draw off all the motorsports series in the US to pick driver to suit their needs while Force India have rather slim pickings in India.
Personally, I like the sound of an Alex Wurz / Graham Rahal combination.
To add. Having one driver work with the engineers and use the other seat to test out drivers to see if they cut it is smart. Not to be too much of a kool-aid drinker but I think that a pretty good plan for starting a new team.
I feel that is a bit sad - I do hope he gets the USF1 drive - for the team to get up to speed it will be great.
sorry what was that?
Sorry, but it's apart of common American phrase. Now that I think about it, it rather a horrible phrase that is said in American vernacular.
According to Urban Dictionary:
A reference to the 1978 cult mass-suicide in Jonestown, Guyana. Jim Jones, the leader of the group, convinced his followers to move to Jonestown. Late in the year he then ordered his flock to commit suicide by drinking grape-flavored Kool-Aid laced with potassium cyanide. In what is now commonly called "the Jonestown Massacre", 913 of the 1100 Jonestown residents drank the Kool-Aid and died.
One lasting legacy of the Jonestown tragedy is the saying, “Don’t drink the Kool-Aid.” This has come to mean, "Don’t trust any group you find to be a little on the kooky side." or "Whatever they tell you, don't believe it too strongly".
The phrase can also be used in the opposite sense to indicate that one has embraced a particular philosophy or perspective.
Alice: Hey, did you hear that Joe is working on the Nader campaign?
Bob: Yeah, he really drank the Kool-Aid on that one.
Chris: I'm thinking about attending a PETA rally
Donna: Whatever you do, don't drink the Kool-Aid!
Awesome. You learn kool stuff every day ;)
I know of the Jonestown massacre but not the Kool-aid part.
Sidepodculture, knowing a little bit more every time you connect to SPC ;-)
I won't link it because some of its' content but if you want a good laugh, take a look through.
I knew of drinking the kool-aid but not of it's origins
i'm not particularly tired but mum is making me try and get some sleep. i keep thinking about Felipe.. even though i know everything is positive atm it's still kinda upsetting. maybe i'm just tired. anyways see you all for the parade lap ;) night! x
God, I'm still shaking... Even after all the good news about Felipe's condition, it will be very hard to fall asleep tonight.
Night Lou
night lou
Night Lou.
Hi Guille.
It's been a long time since we had a really big accident so it shakes people up.
Night Lou :)
You poor thing.
I must admit I have felt awful all day too. Rest assured he is in good hands and he has the right people around him for support. He will pull through, I am sure, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to say a prayer for him if you're so inclined?
Actually, what is the last time we had something this serious. Kubica was injured that bad. Suchmacher into the wall at Silverstone maybe, but he didn't get any head trauma from it.
Guess it was Werdlinger at Monaco 94.
(I think I got his name right, sorry if not.)
I think there are many things together. I really like Felipe, and Surtess accident is too close in my memory (besides, I didn't see Kubica's crsh live, so my 'last big accident' is way back)
That;s the guy but Wendlinger.
Hakkinen - Australia 1995
When did Mika go off at Adelaide? That was pretty horrific.
You ask and you shall receive.
Oh, I think about all that. But you know, 'to think' is one thing, 'to know' is very different (Matrix :-) )
I'm not a prayer man, but I have my own ways...
Fair enough that's kinda what I meant there ... show some support in your own way...
I'm off to bed even though I don't feel tired. See you all later!
bye alianora
I can't believe we've gone 14 years without something like this. Thinking about it... F1 has been extremely luck over the years. I know a lot of that is due to safety measures, quality of care and cars but one cannot deny that we've been luck. I can't imagine what the fans went through in the late sixties where a driver would be killed seemly ever 3rd or 4th race.
Night.
See ya. Hope my fuel stint figures were helpful, BTW...
Night Alianora
Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I need to take a look. Gavin what the address to your blog again?
www.f1numbers.wordpress.com - I'm writing the Hungary ones now...
We've been lucky, simple as that. Sure, safety has improved and there have definitely been accidents recently that would not have been survivable 10 years ago, but still...
THX.
I will be here all night BTW. Only almost 6:00 here and it's baking outside.
No pressure then ;)
Will stay up and write them as long as you promise to leave a comment!
Will do but you won't break my heart if you decide to pack it in. I forget it is nearly two over there. Sleep...
3am - I'm in Denmark!
I was thinking on that earlier. F1 has become so safe today that the only serious accidents left are, well, what you should call proper accidents: things completely out of control in which really bad luck come into play. This is not to say that nothing else can be improved, but the days in which an evident failure in the design of the car or the circuit is the direct responsible for the dead of a driver are hopefully gone...
Hey guys, bit out the loop here, but I hope all is well with felipe... Such a nice guy
hi nick. we all hope Felipe Baby gets well soon :-)
Morning everyone.
morning sean, from the night side of the world...
Isn't it still technically morning over there? You are in Europe right?
Morning, everyone.
From JA: http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/07/the-latest-from-the-track-on-massa/
Out for at least 2 months - maybe the rest of the season. I hope he makes a full recovery. :) In the meantime, I'm guessing Ferrari will pick Gene to drive for at least Valencia. 3 Spaniards on the grid, imagine that.
I wonder if Massa will be fit and willing to drive in 2010, though.
nop, south america, still night ;-).
actually, I haven't even had dinner yet...
I'm sure he will be. He's a dedicated guy, and this was obviously a freak accident.
As for this, I never realised that the spring that hit him was 1kg!
Morning Journeyer
I don't think this will change his approach to racing, at least we won't be scared by that. But if he's going to be a father, I guess having this accident now will put some second toughs in his head...
and that should have been 'thoughts'...
That's what I was thinking. The injuries he sustained are also a bit tricky to manage as it recovers.
I think it might be the end of his career.
I was thinking if that was the case. At least I'm pretty confident that if, heaven forbid, that is where we end up, Ferrari will still have a strong lineup next year.
I'm thinking it's like Cristiano Da Matta too..
let's hope not. besides, felipe is a much better driver :-)
From a few baseball pitchers that have been hit in the eye and damaged the bone around the eye-socket like Felipe did, it always look longer to heal then what the doctors said. He is definitely out for the rest of the year in my view. I am actually worried about long term effects of the head and eye trauma.
Great, the Alonso rumors are going to go into overdrive.
Well, da Matta's recovery was quicker than expected, although it was the psychological effects that took very long - he didn't race again for 2 years.
Well, if it boils down to that, someone has to replace Felipe.
I thought it was flavor-aid, but nobody knew what that was so just used the name of the popular drink. Being in the Apple fan boy world, we hear this one all the time in relation to the Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field (RDF).
You need to watch more cartoons like Family Guy, Simpsons etc. They are always referencing things like this.
I watch those!
I'm just not down with the kids, that's all. Scott Woodwiss continually reminds me of this ;)
So Ferrari could end up with two new drivers next year. If I was going to lose Massa, I'd probably offer Kimi a new contract so you have someone who has been there. I wouldn't offer him the same money he is on now though, so he'd probably turn it down.
If Massa can't come back, Kimi stays. Simple as that.
No offence to the Wiss, but I'm glad you're not. of course, if Amy wins that trip and lets you come along, I might not be so nice :P
out to eat and, hopefully, sleep. see you tomorrow in the parade
Likewise, on both counts ;)
Here's a report from stuff.co.nz on Massa which has a photo of him on a stretcher. There is blood and he appears to be intubated. The pic is not as bad as that other one though...
:D
What if he doesn't want to?
Night guille.
Kimi, you mean? There are a lot of free agents in the market right now. They can think long-term (hire Kubica for 3 years) or short-term (hire Heidfeld or Barrichello for a year to keep options open, especially with Vettel).
I'm sure it's not illegal to put enticing words such as 'magnums' and 'coca-cola' into contracts. ;)
:D
That looks more like an O2 mask rather than intubated.
If Richard 'Hamster' Hammond can come back, so can Felipe Baby. Richard's story is an interesting one and quite worth a read.
Brain injuries are very individual though
Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery though
It's interesting because (a) a lot was hidden from the public and (b) he had an awful time recovering.
Given that Hammond's job description is different to Felipe's, I'm not drawing too many conclusions from it. I'm looking more towards what happened to Ralf or da Matta as a guide.
Oh OK sorry - stopped watching Grey's Anatomy coz it got boring! ;)
Watching Qualy on the iPlayer
Brundle just said Piquet Jr has to score at least half of the points as Alonso to guarantee his job
Interesting
House is better :)
[To intubate requires a device to be inserted into the windpipe]
I think he had up to Germany to score that as well.
Alonso only has 13 points - on reflection that isn't a lot!
House is very good!
Hmm Piquet for third... ah, nope!
This season especially
If I was being strict about it, he'd need second to have at least half the points - assuming Alonso doesn't score. If Alonso finishes 6th or higher later, Piquet can't meet that obligation whatever he does.
13 is infinitely larger than 0 at this point.
I love that Hugh Laurie has everyone in America fooled think he is American... a amazing job by him
6th? Oops. I meant 3rd or higher. And if Alonso is 3rd, Piquet needs to win the race...
Evening all or top of the morning wherever you are. I've been away from the computer all day, has there been any word on Massa's condition, we get no info here at all.
He he, yeah
Point them towards Black Adder Goes Forth or Jeeves & Wooster on YouTube for a big shock
Hugh Laurie is one of the best talents to come out of the UK.
Where are you?
In a stable condition after surgery with 2 fractures of the skull
Will revive him from sedation tomorrow for further tests
From JA: http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/07/the-latest-from-the-track-on-massa/
My friend and I were big Black Adder fans in high school because that was the only thing on right after school that wasn't a soap-opera.
I showed my mom an old episode of Black Adder after she has been watch House for about a year and was shocked.
Gavin's blog side-tracked me to another journalist's musings. I very much agree with this post that doesn't really say anything new.
http://martinhaven.wordpress.com/2009/07/12/ban-the-blazers/
8 hours until parade lap. gosh I love Sundays!
That man is a fantastic commentator and his rants on Midweek Motorsport are pure gold :)
Here's my take on the fuel weights, strategies and fuel-corrected times for qualifying today
Comment is free, so please share your thoughts!
I have to work in that time though. I don't love Sundays so much atm.
Thanks Gavin, will have a look
Good night all, see ya in a few hours ;)
See ya.
I'm on the west coast of Canada. Surrey, British Columbia.
It was mentioned here earlier and I've just spotted this on the qualy replay. Trying to figure out the nature of the tyre marks. Mr C was saying it looked like ABS. I think it's en uneven surface
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/tyre-marks-jpg
Clearer here
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/tyre-marks-jpg
I think it is a rough concrete run off which the car bounced around on. Even on the onboard replay you can see the car bounce around a little bit once it hit the runoff. Not much but still enough to lift the tires off the ground.
Olivia Munn's dress-ups from Comic-Con here. Nice
I want that Racoon outfit.
Morning guys. Quick question Can Massa be replaced today? If so will they start from the back? and Is Ferrari's third driver MS?
Hate to say but no. We are running with 19 cars today. The way the rules are written, you have to qualify to race. If you are unable, then no one can take your place.
I think Gene was confirmed as stand-in if Massa fails to return by Valencia
Mr C said 5live mentioned that someone can indeed replace Massa, but only from whoever is already on the grid. Ferrari declined to use that option, however.
Well I would love to see MS in the 2009 cars. Is Gene not getting on a bit now and not much driving.
Another thing. Does anyone know where Barichello was when the incident happened as he couldnt be seen from the onboard camera. That spring must have been bouncing around for a while.
I think I just saw Alonso and Kubica holding their hand over their head like a second grader trying to get the teachers attention.
Zoe and I are at Oran park raceway. I don't know what Paul looks like...
It is raining and cold but we are having fun anyway
great day for racing ;) what's on today?
You're totally right - he can't be seen, but I don't think anyone knows where he was other than not in any of the pictures. Some of the timing data (FIA) might be able to estimate where he was, but I'm sure one of the news reports today will have info like that. because we're all thinking it.
Morning everyone.
Hope everyone is well.
awake is a good start :)
I think there is a good chance that Massa won't be back in F1 for the rest of this season. That is enough of an opportunity to shake someone (Alonso?) out of their contract.
Whatever happens I don't think it will Badoer or Gene.
I haven't given a thought to who but i agree with you. massa might have brain damage, but they can't assess that for a couple of days (although you can get an idea quickly). I've heard no health update - i got freaked when i saw the austrian media last night using the word coma, but no other network used that word so not sure what was going on.
how was the play Alex?
It will be an induced coma. It's a standard operating procedure kind of thing. It is almost literally like a reboot for the brain. You induce a coma to stop the brain working while there is too much swelling which could damage it. Then you reverse the process to wake them up. Also because you wouldn't get a good brain scan like that.
yeah that's what i figured it was but my german does not cover the word "induced" ;) was just relieved when quick scans of the italian/german/swiss tv networks kept saying he was serious but stable with no new developments. I'm quite relieved.
there's a lot of talk today about a safety review. I think you should have a review after every crash where the little light goes on in the cockpit. When I worked in occupational health and safety, one of the key concepts was constantly reviewing existing legislation/protocols to see what could be changed. would any change have stopped the incident in question. a review doesn't have to mean a complete change of the rule, but if F1 is serious about safety, then an open review (like what NASA have done after deaths) should be standard after these kinds of things.
It was really very good. I really like Priestly it would appear. I liked An Inspector Calls when I saw it about 10 years ago. It was very well acted and directed, but the set designer + director worked together to make several highly effective theatrical effects. Including something I have never seen before... (Which doesn't happen much in the theatre for me any more)...
They managed to stop time. Some papers came spilling off a table and half way through falling froze and the woman who knocked them froze as well. It worked really well. There were similar amazing visual sequences at the end of the second and third acts. It was very well done.
Very cool. So for all those that fancy a trip to the National Theatre(?) in the UK, you'd recommend it? I just don't think anyone else in the UK is here yet ;)
Yes I would.
Looks like it's just me. I need the early bird special :)
massa latest on the bbc site. This morning, I'm thinking no news is good news. Yesterday afternoon's surgery went "positive" and well and he's under anaesthetic and they'll wake him up today. so as we discussed earlier, it would appear to be an induced coma.
the ferrari team have said they will issue a statement again late in the morning, but i suspect there will be news coming out of the hospital before that. Massa is doing well :)
Moby's latest album is a good sunday chill album. i'm just saying.
I haven't got time for that sadly. I'm listening to podsafe music for Sidepodradio next week. I have to get a move on with it or it will never happen!
They will still be having a safety review after the F2 crash last week.
The problem is, how do you stop debris falling from the Car? Short of tethering every single part of the car, which whould be extremely difficult.
I love the world created podsafe music, but it's one reason I didn't want to create a show for next week - I barely have time to listen to music I like, let alone. I'm quite happy for different sources to select my music for me. good luck :)
We say "künstliches" (= artificial) coma in case you need to know in the future ;)
Does PMN still mess up when previewing tracks? That used to bug the hell out of me.
I agree - I'm curious how long that part was there for. I guess Brawn had no way of knowing that a piece was missing from their car, only that they had a problem. But maybe the suspensions will have to be tested more/differently in the future. the same way as the test wheel tethers and things. the red bull crash last year (DC) where the car looked really bad but everything stayed tied together shows what testing has brought to safety. maybe there are parts of the car that they might have to design this way. F1 is a dangerous sport, but Massa is a lucky man today.
gees i hope i never do ;)
I moved to iodapromonet, I got the chance to play 808 State and Propaganda, as some of the old ZTT albums are on there. Can't play everything, but selected tracks.
It's better than it used to be.. I better check iodapromonet.
Take into consideration the spring doesn't have to bounce that high to reach face level in an F1 Cockpit. They could ask them to shroud springs in a rubber sleeve, which contains it and stops it from falling out.
I come out with some weird solutions. I posted one yesterday re: the F2 accident last week.
Morning, everyone.
http://www.formula1.com/news/technical/2009/815/681.html
A bit disturbing, this. Apparently, the spring hit Massa because it bounced back from the new-for-2008 raised side protection. Had it not been raised, the debris would've cleared Massa.
It would appear that the spring was in a shroud but that it escaped.
But that thing is there for a good reason but safety is about reviewing things. Some safety features do cause problems, eg airbags in "normal" cars cause lots of face injuries, but we're all better off with them. I'm impressed that f1 has that stuff up there.
I guess the question is, are the side protections too high now? No question, it's needed for safety, but can there be such a thing as too high?
If it had been lower, the spring would have still hit Massa. They've got to be high. Short of enclosing the cockpit, there isn't a lot you could do. There has to be a solution though.
There can be a question of too high. For once I have every confidence in all the groups involved in F1 to be thinking the same thing and they'll be asking the same question.
As I reread that I realised his injury would have been less serious.
Not exactly. If you look at the image, the spring hit right at the top edge of the side protection. So had it been lower, there would've been nothing for the spring to hit.
Yup, agreed.
I suspect we might see more track inspections between sessions. That's not going to stop every incident, but maybe just a though.
If you look at an action shot of an F1 car racing, there isn't much distance between the helmet and the side protection. He still would have been struck by the spring, just perhaps not as bad.
Good evening everyone.
evening? morning ;)
Morning seems like a good idea right about now. I could be asleep. ;)
It's a great idea. I should be asleep too, but it's more acceptable in my time zone to be asleep right now.
You could get a couple of hours before the race.
Once I'm up, I'm firing on all 3 cylinders ;) trying to get all those little things done before my sunday afternoon disappears....
At least you have a Sunday afternoon. I just finished work.
if it makes you feel better, I'm *at* work ;)
If it makes you feel any better... Actually I don't think I can make you feel any better ;)
You work from home. That does not make me feel any better. In fact, I'd probably say worse. ;)
not working from home - in the office. That's why the idea of going to back to bed is appealing but the bed is too far away. but it's not all doom and gloom because I've got the place to myself and doing a mix of work/non-work.
shouldn't you be making your podcasts? ;)
shh... dang ;)
Footage of Isle of Man TT + HD = Freaking awesome.
Bernie, if you want a reason why to invest in HD... watch this.
I'm listening to NME radio online. I love this station.
Bernie might next year, but he's more concerned about how many cars to be showing on TV :)
Sorry, a little explanation. The discovery channel in America is showing a documentary on this year's TT. Just absolutely insane to watch, A lot of bikes in the air in slow motion in 1080i. I bet I could count the stitches on some of those guy's leathers.
I'm jealous. Remind me to find a good friend with cable when I get to the USA.
laptop wont boot. having spc withdrawals.
oh noes! so your laptop won't turn on?
how can you have withdrawls if you're here? do you comment on two computers? does this have anything to do with the reboot you were doing 12 hours ago?
mobile doohickey.
Second best thing ever invented.
Mornin all.
After the original doohickey? :D
Morning, RG.
technology I didn't jump on to.
and the first? (Will i regret this question?) Morning :)
I was thinking the lclt
thankfully our houseguest is letting me steal his comp for parade lap. see you then. typing on psp doing my head in.
Ahhh.
lucky you. will you be around for the race tho?
nice. do you need any help with the reboot? if so, describe the issues and we might be able to help? how far does the boot process go etc.
from james allen's blog.
so this appears to answer the question of where Barrichello was on the track and how long the part had been on the track.
interesting. so the "full brake" that was shown in the telemetry would suggest that it's full because the brake is on, not because the brake pedal is to the floor 100%.
Morning all.
very odd, that, considering the brake bar we get on TV isn't an on-off switch.
Morning, Christine. :)
Morning :)
Hello there.
I agree. So it must be bad telemetry?
morning Christine and anyone else just joining us. Massa update: still in induced coma and will be woken up in a couple of hours. No updates since last night that I can find, which is a good thing. Italian media is just using "serious but stable" as per yesterday.
Autosport have morning updates: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77304
But doesn't tell us anything more.
yep so "no complications" and he will be woken up for the CT scan on his brain, and then according to italian media, a medical bulletin will be released. I thought this quote from autosport was interesting.
Bernie has called Sid out of retirement for this one, then. I guess Sid will make some recommendations to the TWG on what they can do.
was wondering about this. i haven't heard of Sid for a long time. what does TWG stand for?
the working group?
Technical Working Group
Technical Working Group. Basically, the technical directors from all the F1 teams.
We need to contain our patience, hope and just wish (or pray) the situation improves. All the while the reports of stable and no complications are coming, through they seem measured and a bit vague, they do contain encouragement that a full recovery will be achieved. That conditions at least remains stable for the first 48 hours is critical though. After that it will be attentive medical care to ensure no clots occur and to avoid meningitis.
right, laptop is mine for the evening
Basically when I turned it on it came up with the 'windows did not shut down properly' screen with start in safe mode, start with last good known settings, start windows normally options and regardless of what i choose it then goes into the screen with the vista loading bar, then it shuts itself off and turns itself back on and goes back to the 'windows did not shut down properly' screen. I figure if anyone can help, it'll be someone at SPC.
Totally agree. We were just looking around to find the most up to date info.
I figure if anyone can help, it'll be someone at SPC. How did it shut down last night? did you install anything new last night? i remember you talking about having to reboot? I've never had that issue with Vista. Can you do the line by line version of windows startup?
Intensive Care Units are amazing. A nurse is assigned to watch you and you alone constantly. Checking all your vital signs, adjusting the various drips minute by minute, taking blood tests every hour or so. I know this because my Mum was in one for a couple of weeks.
That's very odd. My initial suspicion is that something may have gotten corrupted in the hard drive. Let's see what others think of it, though.
Last night it wasn't plugged in and it ran out of battery which normally puts it into hibernation. Didn't install anything new. I don't know how to do a line by line version?
Luxury. Not in the ICU wards I've seen.
ah yes, forgot to mention, after the loading bar for about 1/10 of a second before it switches itself off there is very clearly a blue screen of death.
My dads only complaint when he was in one was that there was only curtains separating the beds so he didn't enjoy one night when he was trying to sleep the guy next to him was bought in from a serious car crash and his heart kept stopping so there was a lot of activity around him. But yes, lots of staff and the second anything happens they are onto it.
Are we talking a "real laptop" or one of those miniPC thingies I've never played with.
The question is CAN you select that option and it works. I'm just thinking how we can do this. I've never had to do a line by line with Vista but it's a good start to get a command prompt. i agree with journeyer that something looks to have been corrupted, eg driver or something that is required so no setting may have been changed but something is required that is not there, you're stuffed. it is recoverable. don't freak out.
Does it say anything about repairing windows?
hmmm. perhaps it didn't hibernate properly? i remember my sister having this issue before with Windows XP. To fix it, we pulled out the HD, plugged it in as an external drive to another PC, and repaired it from that other PC using the Windows XP CD.
perhaps you can do something similar?
but did it, or you didn't notice? my power light flashes if it's in hibernation. can you remember if it was in hibernation or not?
forgot to mention - my sister didn't lose any data doing this.
its a "real laptop", sony vaio. I know it is recoverable because my old laptop did this and could be restored with the system discs, but my system discs for this one are in new zealand.
I tried every option on the screen and it doesn't start with any of them including safe mode. There is a laptop repair place across the road from my work so I can take it in there tomorrow.
yeah that's my experience, your data should be fine, it's just windows that has the issues. so don't panic and reformat c drive ;) inconvenient but recoverable.
are we talking system floppys? get your folks to email them to you? even if you take it across the road to the repair place (a great idea) those disks could help. assuming you have a floppy drive? ;) does anyone?
mine doesn't flash in hibernation when the battery is fully drained, so there were no lights but thats what it normally does.
just to boot it off the system discs and then choose 'repair' but I don't have the discs.
but what will you do tonight?
sometimes there is a recovery partition you can boot from. does it come up with which key to press to get into BIOS settings when you first turn it on?
hehe no floppy drive, just 2x dvds.
you don't necessarily need your own system discs. does VAIO have its own CDs? if so, i suggest you call up or visit the nearest Sony Service Center.
better idea - get it sent to you by courier. :) yup, any repair place should be fine as long as you get your own discs back.
the guy who is staying with us bought a new laptop so in exchange for showing him how to transfer all his files between them, i am allowed to borrow his old one for as long as i need it :)
just download windows 7 beta release candidate 1 and maybe use that for repair? or install over the top?
Morning guys, how are we all? Any more news on Massa? :)
i'm old school ;) another option is to run a small linux of a USB (eg DSL=Damn Small Linux) and repair it from there. but let the shop sort it out ;)
bah, if i had the discs I wouldn't pay someone else to do it!
Morning!
Funnily enough I just checked AUTOSPORT: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77304
Sounds like good news...
nothing new. induced coma. no complications over night. will be woken up for a cat scan later this morning/today. good news considering :)
i looked online a while back to see if i could download them anywhere but they didnt have anything compatible with my model number.
Good to hear. :)
hmmm. i guess you can try booting from the DVD, but that didn't work for my sister.
DOwnload Moblin onto a flash drive and use that as your OS...
but you don't ;) CDs always go with me, even if the computer doesn't, they always come in handy for someone.
I am sure I packed my spindle of 'computer relevant cds' when I moved but its nowhere in my flat so it must be in New Zealand somewhere! I asked my parents but all my stuff is in boxes and they didn't want to go through them.
i wouldn't use a different OS. could result in loss of data on hard drive. it shouldn't but it could.
I've got all my boxes itemised to make this easy for them ;) They've never had to, but I'm prepared if I ever need anything.
I'm going outside for a bit. Been here a while today. When is parade lap? (how many minutes, the time will be confusing for me)
I always have both a Linux Live CD or a USB with my laptop so if Windows does a wobbly I can boot into another OS. LinuxMint is particularly useful as it has all the drivers for the Internet (Java, Flash Shockwave) and codecs for videos. In my experience it is the only "complete" OS currently available.
agreed.
in 30 minutes or so.
Woohoo the first 5 minutes and 17 seconds of my two hours of radio are recorded! I have achieved a small step for Giggles, but a giant leap for GiggleKind!
I have stopped it from auto restarting on boot failure so now I can read the blue screen. Not that it helps me. :D
Guys,
Just in case I miss the start of the parade lap, here is my Qualifying Analysis with Fuel Weights, stints and corrected laptimes...
nice progress ;)
does it say anything? or just blank?
If you use a live CD USB there is no risk, just make sure you do not do an install though once in the OS.
what does it say?
Already printed out my friend!
morning all. just woken up, have to prep for show. has this been linked to yet?
as before, don't know how accurate it is.
agreed.
Hadn't seen it I don't think
that's the first to say he's been brought out of a coma and put back in. not that unusual in head injuries.
going outside for a bit. i need sunshine.
You guys are so lucky,
I cant tell you how lucky you are,
Like SO lucky, i can't believe you lucky you are.
I, yes i, will be present for the parade lap today :D
hehehe
Going to miss Parade Lap again. Got to take my Wife to her in-laws for Sunday Lunch. I get out of it for F1, but have to play chauffeur.
Also, my 6th Wedding Anniversary today, so being extra nice to her.
Ah yes prep for the show!
Wow, we better make sure it's a good'un!

4. Rubens
5. Fernando
6. Kimi
7. Heikki

Morning all
Don't be scared :)
Along with other myths, I've found the best cure is to wire me £500 through paypal.
Morning, hows Steven today?
I'm glad you're here Steven!
I'm too tired to work out how that works...
hehehe, i'll just google it ;)
From the wrong side of the glass
what a great Delurking comment ;)
Drink like you would normally, but put your mouth on the other side of hte glass, so you have to drive it upsidedown, it works perfectly
Hi Janna
Hope now that you have delurked you keep commenting.
I have never heard the grapefruit part of that cure before. Is it something to do with the way the mouth and throat move when you say the word?
I don't have your notes.
I think so, but to be honest I've just seen it work, I don't know the biology :-)
*scratches head*
My mind is still lost like nelson piquet in a car park.
yikes. go the shop.
That's far too analytical!
:)
hehe
Here you go, peoples: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/07/26/live-hungary-for-some-racing/
Nelson has no problem parking.
In other news, i bought the most amazing purple fluffy slippers today and I never want to take them off. Ever.
I have been sitting here saying grapefruit to myself trying to work out what parts of the throat move when I say it. Strange the things sidepodcast gets you doing on a Sunday morning.
I've got Mr Men slippers :D
http://images3.souq.com/uploaded/0309/7c5b67e47aae82141b9244d9eb1a7d1d_92366587911237280927.jpg
Good Stuff!
awesome slippers
£2.24 from poundstretcher. - Budget Busting Waldock they call me :D
It's all gone quiet
I must admit, I'm not wearing any slippers and have felt somewhat outsided by the entire conversation
I'm eating Tesco Milk Chocolate oaties? Is that a conversation
Nigel Mansell at MotoGP? Golly.
As a guest of Rossi, no less!
MotoGP about to start!
motogp has live timing by the way, but you might have to login (free account but you'll get emailed by them every race weekend)
http://www.motogp.com/en/Live+Timing
Does anyone have a good site to watch the race on? I can't seem to find one that works and it's being delayed unitl noon in the US
Ouch, nasty high side from Elias.
Right, time for some more practice at Brno with t'Volvo. :P
Lorenzo OUT!
*waves* hi everyone... over here... daily is nice..
Good thinking Lou!
Oh hello. :P
I had just switched to the doohicky for that exact reason :)
Hi, guys! :)
Doohicky of death.....
*Walks around the thread quickly picking up the empty crisp packets and cans of unnamed energy drinks*
Honestly you kids ;)
anyone got much planned for this afternoon?
Family + Lunch = hmmm
Nope.
Sunday... probably laying about reading... or writing blogs... or reading blogs... or writing...
I *must* get some more SidePodRadio done! How's your show coming along Lou ;)
sleep!
some transcribing, might watch a DVD, nice lazy Sunday really :)
am currently trying to work out if going to see Jenson in the London Tri next weekend (and getting there for 7:30am!!) is a good idea...
You're gonna miss Sidepodradio then? :(
sidepodradio starts at 12pm right?... i'll be back to see some of it :) plus it will give me something to listen to and laugh at while i am on holiday feeling homesick :)
Just to let you know, you may not actually see him, it's SO busy at the London Tri
Did anyone else think that DC isn't just pro Red Bull, but that he likes Mark Webber more.
oh. hmmm....
Lou is going to be sidepodradio's on the spot correspondent. A sidepodoutsidebroadcast
Lou I actually meant to talk to you... I know you don't get down to London that much but I saw a play last night at the National Theater called Time and the Conways... I know you're really into your stage production this play was really really well done for that. It was really great for other reasons too. But I thought I might mention it to you.
Managed to get down to a 2'11 finally at Brno in t'Volvo. That was on my first flying lap when the tyre were fresh. After a few laps I can run consistently in the 2'12s. Compare that with my teammate who's best time is a 2'10. This wheel really does do wonders for your driving! :D
He's probably closer to the ex-team mate than the young pup
I thought that in Germany and today
it will be like going to a gp, and him only doing one lap, with him going past you once, maybe twice if you move
Good idea
Absolutely. He has said nice things about Vettel only when it isn't against Webber.
The way he was so dismissive of the 1st corner stuff for Seb when he was mouthing off so much in Mark's favour last week.
the young pup is probably the reason he "chose" to retire.
oh... i was looking forward to going... it's at the london exel isn't it?
Appologee's to anyone who's twitter is going mental because of me....i'm having alot of fun with these #tedkravitzfacts
Rossi down!
Rossi fell
ROSSI!
hehe. I stopped doing it because I got the idea I was flooding a lot of people's twitters unfairly
strangely i'm going up to London quiet a bit atm and i love it! :) the National Theatre's on South Bank right?.. that's interesting. were tickets very expensive? thanks for mentioning it :)
Running again
yeah, it'll be great, no doubt about that, its a great event, but if you're going just to see him then you may be disapointed,
rossi 7th ?
Nope - 11th!
11th
he falled offf
hayden has overtaken stoner ;(
I think the advice is clear - stay off the goddamn white lines!
yeah but they're both doing pretty appaulingly
hm... okay.
ahh just noticed Nakajima has finally managed to finish in the top 10. Well done.
you should go!! i'd go if i could!
Gettin a GP is supposed to be good for the host country so goverment should put finance in. That is Bernie's argument.
Moto GP at a wet and cold Donington is covered in adverts saying Visit Spain.
i just don't get why they started on those tyres with the championship like it was.
it confused me - wasn't sure if i was watching a live race.
me neither, it confuses me greatly
being more than 25 points behind, they decided to do something different.
:D
Looks like Rossi's bike is still good then
am going to see if i can get a friend to come and keep my company... plus share the very early morning with me lol. never know Jules could be there... lol
London is the bestest!
It's on the Southbank near Waterloo Train station. Lovely part of London for evening wonders along the river (you can see briefly from my video last night).
Tickets were £15 each but it was part of a promotion... They may be more now
not the gamble i'd be making at this stage of the season.
it clearly wasnt going to rain, and it only rained for about 2 laps
lucky guy
loads of blue sky in the 10 minutes before the start. is there a time limit for bikes to set the tyres (eg f1 is 3 minutes)?
dunno, i presume so
You should always drag someone else out of their bed when you have to get up early. It doesn't seem so bad that way.
Do you know the route. Change over areas are your best bet of seeing Jenson I would have thought.
yeah i thought i recognised it. i love Southbank soooooooo much.
ah cool, thanks i'll look into it :)
At least 3 days this week I've got in the car to go to work and had to wear sunglasses. Before I'd got to work, it was raining.
Odd week for weather, very British
erm.. i did have a look ages ago.. will have a look now i think :)
I kind of want to kidnap Sebs wee brother. He's all "yeah, you go race, I'll play with my car too"
i'd say the finish line is the best chance, transition areas are huge, and jenson wont be part of the elites, so he could be anywhere. find someone on the running course, nearer the end would be your best bet
awwww :)
Vettel
Nice pic
:) okay. i need to find a friend to drag along too..before i think any further about it..
sure it's not his older brother? ;)
I wonder if he is going to be one of the faster younger brothers or a Ralf
Shush!!
maybe that is Seb and now we know what he does before qualifying? :D
Who threw that stone?
don't underestimate how many people do these big tri's, we're talking hundreds of people getting into the transition areas. by the time you get to the end of hte bike your spread out, and even more so with the run (generally)
He's not Schumacher he's just a very naughty boy!
stoner's in front of hayden ;)
boo
I can imagine this picture being in one of those womens magazines "body language expert" pages
"You can see from his position that he really likes her but we can see from the way she faces away, she is not quite so interested"
Of course she likes him.... She wasn't half making a spectacle of herself today!
I have just noticed that Doohicky and LCLT have different sleeping pandas!
Rossi 5th. Unbelievable
no way!! didnt know that :D
she was thinking about the bonus he'd be getting, says DC ;)
haha lol he's probably told her that he wont be buying her anything with the bonus he'll be getting and would prefer to spend it on something else....
One's a he and one's a she. Of course they are different
so rossi beat toseland for 5th.
Same bike funily enough
she's happy for him, but you just can't see it through the fresh botox...
"I just got you a $112,000 car, what more do you want?"
I think the body language says why are they pointing the cameras at him when I am here?
I don't think she's short of pennies, not quite on Lewis' scale, but still...
no girl would turn down expensive gifts. or cheap gifts. I am open to any gifts whatsoever.
What happens at the end of a Moto GP race when there is not a Rossi celebration?
I can't remember
They are the next generation Posh and Becks aren't they!
hehe
KFC?
not sure if anyone knows ;)
Oh please, noooooooooooooo!
thats practically an offer of marriage.
:D
aw I want to see the DVD that Sky Italia made for Felipe. Sounds sweet.
motogp is talking about ducati's call for wets. team blaming Stoner for his weather thoughts...??
what are the details? i'll see what i can do.
Any more news about Felipe? Everything I hear seems to be getting worse and worse. I missed the start of the BBC coverage, what did they say?
JA tweets: SKY TV Italia has made a DVD with Get Well messages from all the F1 drivers for Massa when he wakes up. Rob Smedley is taking it to him
Not famous enough for that.
Did anyone see the Becks incident in LA? He is now playing half season for LA Galaxy and half for Milan in Italy to make sure he keeps his England place. Some Galaxy fans took exception to him doing this so at his first game back there as he was going off at half time he had a heated argument with a group of them.
Major League Soccer decided this was a breach of discpline and fined him for it. He make £50 million a season for playing there and they fined him $1000.
Championship drive of a recovery there - he still beats all his fellow contenders!
To be kept sedated for the next 48hrs was the last I read
motogp: "I'm to old for this sh.... sugar."
Erm.... Erm...... I am not here
That should work.
nothing new that i could see.
I think you're going to have have to blame yourself Steven.
he'll be sedated for a further 2 days, his last brain scan was clear, and doctors are optimistic.
Joe wrote an update this morning - http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/07/26/massa-update/
hmm. not something that's going to be broadcast probably. remind me in a few days.
It's OK, I'd have to get the KFC before anything became official, and as you are on the other side of the world I think you are safe.
Last news was no complications over night and this morning's CT scan was negative which is good. He is being kept in an induced coma for 48 hours which is pretty normal.
yeah I don't expect to see it anywhere. Unless its like the drivers good luck messages for Kimi when he got married and it randomly shows up on youtube years later.
So it's bad concussion then??
That's something Eddie Jordan got wrong at least.... "Knock on the chin" my foot
He is ridiculously good.
italian papers basically say the CT scan means "no brain damage", but serious and stable.
Just as well I can't go online and order a delivery I suppose
motogp doing a donn. tribute.
Is there a show planned for 6-ish today?
delivery KFC. I'd officially have to be removed from my house with a forklift if I lived somewhere where they did that.
the BBC today said that everything the doctors expected to happen after the surgery (recovery wise) has happened. Looks like he's in really good hands.
He has two skull fractures and concussion. It is pretty bad but we won;t know how bad for a while yet. He won't drive again this year though
Yep
that's what Mr C said before they left i believe.
and now to the tour de france procession. but motogp is on the red button.
some bone was removed from his fractured eye socket.
has that been confirmed? not sure Ferrari have actually specified what surgery he had?
Inducing a coma certainly isn't routine. There are a lot of risks associated with the sedatives which are only worth it if the risk of severe brain swelling is high. They do it to minimise risk of long-term brain damage.
They were all very flippant yesterday about him being okay that's all. I'm just shocked that it's so serious after all.
Sid Watkins was heading to Hungary last night and there is no-one better or better connected to get things done. Even Bernie won't argue with the Prof.
Ta
Will grab some food now then
[Not KFC, unfortunately]
http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=39350111302&topic=6810
Good stuff
ferrari have been light but the italian media quoted sources about the eye socket. i'd have no doubts over it. but i was the one that reported honda being saved back in december ;)
have a read of the post's Joe has put up about it. - http://joesaward.wordpress.com/ - he explains the reasons for sedating him very well.
I said that it was routine earlier. What I meant at the time was that given the trauma and the swelling it was common, rather than unusual.
The first report I saw yesterday afternoon said he had a cut near his eye and after that it just got worse and worse.
okay... so i'm going to regret this but....who's Sid Watkins?
Sorry, maybe I should explain my background here. I've spent 4 years at medical school. I just mean, inducing a coma is a really serious step and not something that's ever done lightly
kfc used to deliver where i grew up north of sydney. nothing funnier than your friend rocking up on the door. that 10 cent tip seemed pretty week though ;)
I have to say that when I heard that he'd been hit in the head and then he'd pressed both the accelerator and the brake and hadn't let go of the wheel it worried me quite a lot. That was the moment that I panicked.
I took this picture in Singapore just because I was so jealous
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc05565-jpg
Absolutely agree. Good to hear your thoughts!
funny to hear motogp saying rain spoilt their race.
When I stopped paying attention to F1 yesterday they said that he'd cut himself and was waving as he got into the ambulance. I'm just horrified by how serious it's turned out to be.
He forced many tracks and thngs within F1 to improve medical facilities, improve safety, etc. Someone else can explain it better than me I'm sure I'm doing massive injustice with this poor explanantion but he is just the man in terms of medical and safety historyn within f1 I'd say.
I believe his officia role before he retired in 05 was Safety Delegate or Medical Delegate but I may be wrong.
F1 Medical guru who put into motion much of the medical safety they use. He was met with a lot of resistance when he started but his insistence on proper facilities must have saved many lives. His books are fantastic reads.
aahh thanks :) i'll see if i can grab a copy of one of his books then, seeing as i will no doubt do alot of reading on holiday.
You may also like to listen to this excellent miniseries podcast :)
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/07/07/f1-safety-defining-moments/
it was not a lot of waving. i saw what people talked about, but i think there were trying to make it sounds better than it was.
the live video of the incident coverage on italian tv is available but not sure if works for non italians (most links i post do so it might). there is some some different footage (not a lot new) because this wasn't the same as the bbc.
the best one is his first, Life at the Limit: Triumph and Tragedy in Formula One. I got it from the library a few years back, but I've been meaning to buy my own copy so I can read it again.
Safety has improved that much?
The Prof was the guy who Bernie asked to take responsibility for medical care in F1 in the late 70s. At that time it was quiet common for circuit facilities to be first aiders in a tent. Eveything that has happened since has been due to the Prof. He is proper famous.
He brought in proper circuit medical facilities, medical cars etc. He started inspecting local hospitals to make sure they were able to cope with receiving casualties from circuits and treating them. If the Prof wasn't happy the circuit didn't get a race regardless what they were paying Bernie.
He retired from going to the races a few years ago but is head of the FIA safety whatever thing.
He is a professor of neuro-surgery. etc etc
He also has a fabulous sense of humour. When Mercedes approached him to ask if there was anything else h would like in the medical car as a joke he said a bottle of single malt and a humidor for his cigars. He got a humidor and a little drinks cabinet.
don't tell christine but am saving her mini series for my holiday ;)
It is reasonably common in motor racing crashes where serious head injuries occur and where there may be brain swelling. Obviously like everything else common in F1 terms does not necessarily reflect real life.
In simple terms as far as F1 safety is concerned we have to thank Jackie Stewart and Sid Watkins. Many others contributed but those two made things happen.
here here
As I'm reading JYS's autobiography now, it's quite amazing how much resistance/frustration they had to put up with from people within the paddock...
I mean when they first started demanding the improvements, of course.
So they think all the damage to Felipe was done when he was initially struck by the spring rather than in the crash itself?
That's what I was about to say. Sir Stirling Moss still disagrees with JYS and still bangs on about the sport being ruined because it's too safe.
Don't know - but after seeing that spring I wouldn't want to come into contact with it at all...
i think that is too early to say, but it appears that it is likely (spring was worse).
He had to battle the other drivers as well as everyone else. They said if he was so scared he should quit. Of course once he beat them all by four minutes round the Nurburgring with a broken wrist they couldn't really use that argument any more.
Just had a thought.
THAT WOMAN was seen at almost every race last year when Lewis was winning. This year, she's hardly seen at all until Lewis gets a sniff of victory and then she's all over the cameras...
Coincidence? C'mon Lewis, there's plenty of other nice ladies your age who like F1 out there!
In the fog and rain too!
Hi, I'm back from proper outside.
How was the race/parade lap?
she doesn't turn up once there's a chance. she's at all the races she can. coincidence.
Worth watching ;)
She's been at races when he was doing badly this season though. It's just that they've not been giving her camera time. I find her awful as a person, but I think that's unfair.
I don't think so. I am only going by what I saw on video. To me the spring took out the screw that held his visor on. With the visor flapping around he hit the corner of the steering wheel with his head.
I think he was knocked out by the spring but the cut and front skull damage could hav been done by the wheel or the initial impact. He also has a fracture at the base of his skull which I assume came from the recoil ofthe seat belts banging his head against the head restraint.
i had to stick up for her, but hasn't she been on tour?
yup. she was st Silverstone.
yup.
She was coming here. Thankfully it got cancelled!
god what is it with me just recently and making silly typos..
He is an idiot. He thinks danger is part of the attraction and if there was no risk there would be no satisfaction. So David Beckham would enjoy his football more if he had a serious risk of dying every time h went on the park?
Was anyone pleased to see proper trophys again this week?. Those Santander ones really annoy me.
I meant to mention the weather since that was the important part. Must not type so fast.
yeah the PCD opened for Britney in the US and then they did their own tour of Australia/Asia.
My brother has been to his house. He has the steering wheel that he crashed into (which put him into a coma for a long time and is seriously mangled) mounted above his desk. His views of normality are clearly quite a long way out of whack with reality.
Do you know how dangerous outside is?
Parade Lap and race were both really good. If you haven't seen the race it is worth watching.
Giant dinnerplates are infinitely better than horrid Santander pointy... things
it used to be part of the attraction, but as time passes, society changes too.
i think i need to go back out there soon. i still see some nice sunlight..
His house is pretty amazing. All sorts of interesting gadgets including the only lift in the world designed and manufactured by Williams. Surprised Frank doesn't have one.
Anything is better than the Santander things. They are a disgrace.
*looks at 'outside'*
*sees heavy rain and dark grey skies*
...think I'll stick with in here. :P
That is the most random fact I've ever heard!
Have you been there? My brother is friends with his son.
Debrief still at 6?
Yus.
Slick.
I am sure I saw video of that somewhere. And the tray that comes down from the ceiling with his food on it.
Basically... Stirling Moss is Wallace?
yes!
Now to work out who Gromit is..
No but it has been featured in magazines and was on TV not long ago
The tray is his office in/out tray because his secretary is upstairs
Exactly
a ha! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9C2T0ObRzU
oooh, so thats Jeson Button and Sir Sterling Moss now we've got from the media :P
:D
something in my fingers wont let me type Jeson Button... i have to go back and delete the 'n' that's how strange it feels to type it...
#fr If anyone wants any Fantasy Racers shoutouts, let me know.
tweet from @noblef1 - Representatives of Renault and Red Bull Racing have been summoned to see the race stewards at the Hungarian GP
um, what?
The pitstops. Renault's godawful work on that wheel, and Red Bull's stupidity that nearly saw Kimi/Marky crash
That will be for bringing the sport into disrepute by talking to Eddie Jordan before the start
er, what? why?
:D
Stirling = Q (from james bond)
surely they're not looking at a penalty THIS late?
or could it be an issue with the Renault engine?
oh. of course. brain saw Renault and RBR and thought it was something to do with the engines. fail.
Just looking at it makes me tut... even worse that there's more than one article on whatever crap newspaper site it was with the name as that!
He asked Flav if there was a fix as they were all engine supplied by Renault to hold off on the first corner. And jokingly Flav said yes.
I wonder if that's it?
Renault?? what happened to Renault, other than them messing up Alonso's race...
oooh. I hope its something juicy.
Well the tyre was mega dangerous and they should've really had it on properly before letting Anando go
It was a mixed day for Scuderia Mille Miglia in Hungary.
The bad news: The team slipped a few spots to 100th.
The good news: The team is now ahead of Sidepodcast Racers, who have slipped to 107th.
With a 4-week break upcoming, the team will now rest and see if a change in strategy is needed for the last 7 races.
yep. that's probably why they'll have a chat. and maybe webber for the pitlane incident where he came out a fraction early,
the flailing wheel spinners? (hopefully).
i do hope this isn't a penalty, though. rather late in the day for that - not even a warning during the race.
Cannot wait till those stupid wheel things get banned
there are always team penalties that can come at any time - i.e. a fine. i think alonso was dangerous to continue with the wheel loose as it was.
fines are OK. time penalties less so.
#fr Honda's helping hand scored a total of 428 points today, we'll certainly have to have a few meetings to discuss driver contracts and performance. In all, not our best result, but we've had worse.
ooh.. good point.
Team Victory or Bust had a very poor race. The team was badly let down by a facical pit stop that cost Fernando Alonso his best result of the season and by Jenson Button making a stupid tyre choice. The biggest let down though was Sebastian Vettel parking his car to play with his little brother's radio controlled Enzo.
Lewis Hamilton delivered a great win for the team and was ably backed up by Timo Glock
#fr
Noble on twitter - FOM has explained the confusion at the end of qualifying yesterday was caused by a damaged cable in the finish line sensor
http://twitter.com/NobleF1/status/2854817272
own up, who ran over the sensor?
....oh wait.
yeah it's late to do this now, but nothing surprises me. i expect fines. which are stupid and useless in my opinion. i love how in some countries, eg norway, speeding fines are tied to a % of a person's income. so rich people don't speed because it will only cost them 100€. great idea. i hope more countries embrace the idea.
incredible technology.
ooops missed the last bit of Steven's comment
So Ferrari could end up with two new drivers next year. If I was going to lose Massa, I’d probably offer Kimi a new contract so you have someone who has been there. I wouldn’t offer him the same money he is on now though, so he’d probably turn it down. {Comment #104}
Kimi's got a contract until 2010. I don't think Ferrari can change the salary, but it won't have to do anything to ensure Raikkonen's presence on the team.
gosh. I love how up to date the news is on twitter. I don't understand people who write it off as useless.
Looks like Webber have been repremanded, Kimi let off
http://twitter.com/NobleF1
That says Red Bull reprimanded, not Webber
i think that's fair enough. still want to know why webber was investigated mid race but kimi's was left until after the race.
as for amy's comment about twitter - nice fast source :)
it's brilliant, except for when it isn't.
#fr
A disastrous weekend for RossoCorse, after Massa's crash in qualifying and poor races by Alonso, Heifeld and Barrichello. However, the team direction wants to assure everybody that we back our drivers 100%, and it will decide only the week before Valencia it's replacement for Massa. Leaving the car free as a tribute to him is also a possibility. At the moment, our thoughts are with him and his family and we expect to see him well and ready to race soon.
whoooooooooopppppps.
lots of it is rubbish but the ever increasing number of autosport journalists are normally pretty on to it.
Brundle just said Piquet Jr has to score at least half of the points as Alonso to guarantee his job
Interesting {Comment #122}
Well, I can't say Piquet Jr did anything to help his case today. As Martin Brundle said a few years back, Flavio doesn't do twelfth...
Noble on twitter - Renault has been suspended from the European Grand Prix for the wheel loss suffered by Fernando Alonso
wow...
harsh, but fair
http://twitter.com/NobleF1/status/2854978017
wow. that is huge.
and fair enough too. the spinner falling off is bad enough but the wheel itself, thats just stupidly dangerous.
woah!!
Something tells me i'm going to be watching the European GP with a load of angry Spanish fans....
This means no alonso for Valencia... big drop in viewing figures in spain then...
something tells me Ferrari have a replacement for Massa.
I concur. 100%. stupid on any race weekend, but particular given the event of the last 7 days.
oh I totally read that as they were suspended from the race we just had, not the next one. Stupid 2.40am.
ha! agreed.
twitter want to be all about interpersonal messaging, to replace email. i want twitter to be an instant messaging service to replace rss.
everything twitter does at the moment makes my ideal situation harder to obtain :(
and Alonso races for Ferrari, I can see the titles...
not much use in throwing out Piquet ;)
WOW. Where did THAT come from?
bingo!
oh... my... would Alonso's contract with Renault let him though?
have we missed something?
So the answer to the question on everyones lips....no...piquet wont be racing in Valencia ;)
Renault can't provide him a drive, so I guess they'll have to let him.
:D
OK, that would be pretty surreal.
Renault suspended for next race apparently
What the?!
For Mr. C's consumption.
Show Notes = REWRITE
haha :)
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77353 Kimi's in the clear
:D hehe
WHAT?
GAHHHHHHH.
So what will be Red Bull's punishment? All we know is theyve been reprimanded.
should i put it in bold next time?
And that'll be all.
Oh god, Flav's response will be fun.
probably nothing more than just that. it's a label without any money/point issues. more useless than a yellow card because there's no limit to how many you can have
guttttted.
To lighten the mood...
@windym - Ted Kravitz is equipped with his very own KERS system that gives him 6 seconds of verbo-boost.
I hope Renault's doors are reinforced... Alonso is going to be furious.
Ah, fair enough.
only if he doesn't have a drive at valencia. something tells me he might have 1.
I'm guessing there's going to be a mechanic that gonna be unemployed by the time Valencia comes around.
:( i really want Alonso to race... i want to soak up the atmosphere of enthusiastic Spanish fans while sitting in a Spanish bar watching a Spanish GP.. my plans are falling apart...
That's enough for a break clause in his contract surely...
i want renault to race
But, like lou said, can ferrari do that?!
Even more so, would Renault let them?
you mean Spa...
sign him up to be with nakajima. perfect match
Where is this Spanish Bar? Spain?
Cue VERY empty grandstands in 4 weeks time.
aww!! hugs, and rose for mr c!
bernie will step in. if only to move alonso.
Regardless, someone's head is gonna roll for this.
I swear Brundle said the car moved before hte guy had raised his hand - lollypop man = FAIL
Renault's suspension from the European Grand Prix will, I think, give Fernando Alonso ample motive to request permission from his bosses and Ferrari's to substitute for Felipe in Valencia...
balls and buggeration.
They still have Tim!
Yeah, sure he will. Next thing he'll be telling us he'll sort out F1 in 48 hours. Oh wait...
Tim is Spanish?
yep... 10mins walk from the town house my friends family (am going on their holiday cause they're nice like that) have rented... it's next to a golf course and they always show the GP, tis the whole reason i decided it would be safe to go on holiday...
The volume of tapping on the keyboard over the other side of the room is getting louder by the minute. Someone's mad!
You've not known that all this time?
Nope.
Go Spanish Tim!
am thinking Spanish fans wont be that enthusiastic about him... but you make a good point :)
Keep him away from the energy drink then. Get him on rose and calm him down!
that's what i saw on the video. you can see the mechanic still with his hands on the wheel - but he might have indicated that he was okay to release the car, and then changed his mind. i've seen that before.
!
That why Flav left early?
i think renault may have shut down their blog comments.
he's tapping out morse code in 140 characters,
So what will be Red Bull’s punishment? All we know is theyve been reprimanded. {Comment #652}
A reprimand is the lowest formal penalty that can be given for an incident. If you get two in a season, the stewards/governing body is permitted to take that into account when deciding on the penalty for the second incident (though in practise the two incidents need to be of similar type for an escalation of penalty to be triggered).
aw.. something is telling me we may need more rose....
Interesting line from the very brief Autosport article:
oh dear... blog post? letter of complaint? ;)
How much more obvious could it be?
oh.
are we talking about the wine here or are we discussing colouring in Mr C's cheeks to make him look flustered?
haha wine...
That will ruin Lauda's prediction that they'd bring back Schumi
Mid-season
Depends on his escape clause, I guess
Exactly.
they're just saying what we're saying. its nothing official from a team.
This is completely off topic but the doohickey keeps freezing firefox for a second or two when loading new comments.. :(
i think renault may have shut down their blog comments. {Comment #688}
Wise move on Reanult's part. I'd hate to think what kind of moderation job would have been needed if it had been left open - it's probably safer for the Renault web site team to implicitly encourage the fury to be vented on other people's parts of the internet.
not yet. they're journos saying just what we are.
it always has, hasnt it?
How long since you refreshed the 'hicky?
words cant express how much I hate new firefox. I miss the old days when it was my saviour from IE. Now it never loads and freezes constantly.
but that's a pretty heavy hint, isn't it? read between the lines...
Ah well at least the Grumpy-go-round Jr should keep his drive...
*sits expectantly for the most obvious and long awaited annoucement in F1 to happen sometime in the next 4 weeks* :P
not sure if that was a prediction or a hope. either way, it had intrigue and optimism.
they know tons of off-the-record stuff. in a case like this, they probably know more than we do.
ah. Good point. The list is HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE.
Mr C while this may not help you now... This might be the kind of thing it takes to get those wheel covers banned. Flav will be proposing it any second!
:D
yeah that's what i do sometimes so there's less comments to move down the page. not sure if it helps but it makes me feel better.
hehe. ta.
There's no way Renault will let him go when they're trying to ditch jr
coming from the person who was exclaiming about vista earlier today?! ;) i love firefox.
*opens box of Rose*
Roll back to 3.0 or even FF2
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77353 Kimi’s in the clear {Comment #648}
So why was Raikkonen not penalised when Webber was for doing something similar at the start of last race? The same act should receive the same penalty, surely...
new firefox is grim. EPIC fail
ahaha I don't love vista, I just love that I saved my laptop. No help from SPC :P
It wasn't the same act. I think Kimi could easily claim he was taking avoiding action.
thirded.
safari ftw.
Safari is perfectly fine for me :D
sure they know more than us. but journos leaving a story "open" and creating intrigue and interest is a classic journalism. i'm not saying they don't know it will happen, but i'm not overreading this story - but you can ;)
agreed
What's the issue with FF3.5?
new firefox is grim. EPIC fail {Comment #723}
Oddly enough, it's the most reliable version I've ever used. My home network is strange...
official fia releases;
kimi - http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/hun09_document_43.pdf
mark/rbr - http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/hun09_document_44.pdf
renault - http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/hun09_document_45.pdf
I'm guessing Mark's was more intentional than Kimi's. Hard to describe it, but there you go.
and FF3.5 for me :D
it just breaks all the time, freezes, crashes, just suddenly closes itself
Go back to 3.0 or switch browsers?
thanks!
#fr That went well. :)
how do i go back to 3.0?
Indeed. ;)
i use both, for different things, usually at the same time. :)
oh lordy.
Mr C while this may not help you now… This might be the kind of thing it takes to get those wheel covers banned. Flav will be proposing it any second! {Comment #714}
FOTA were trying to get them removed before this - Flavio will probably encourage its removal more, but he was already very much in the "no fairings" camp before today.
Google FF 3.0, download, uninstall 3.5, don't update until 3.5.1 is received well
:D
Same
ooh Morrie Chandler was one of the stewards. he's a Kiwi!
does he posses the capability to make an decision within an hour?
Point from Keith C re: Renault's ban:
Good point, there.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
In the interest of safety it's more than fair IMO
the FIA have released their post race technical report now.
in linux you don't have that choice... in any case, I've been using the development version of FF3.5 since it was released and never had a problem. it actually behaves better than FF3, using less memory
is there a show coming up now? i'm not usually here in a nighttime. i should go soon...
Oh well, whoever predicted Piquet wouldn't be at the next race deserves a point ;)
They are allowed to appeal. The stewards might be playing hardball now, Bernie will bawl them out about not having Alonso at Valencia and they'll get a big fine and a suspended ban
Should be. But then, we run on Sidepodtime, so...
Any second now. When Mr C stops acting like the hulk.
Should be soon, show note re-writes permitting
Energy drink SMASH! ;)
MrC Angrryy
Unless Bernie thinks it'll be better for his ratings to see Alonso in a Ferrari. ;)
But Keith's point is a valid one. A precedent has been set for this, and if anything, that was a warning.
Is he ripping up a telephone directory or just the show notes?
MR C MAD! GET REVENGE ON FIA STEWARDS! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
:D Not able to calm him down? ;)
they're appealing. i don't fancy their chances.
I actually find it quite funny, but don't tell him that.
That's why they're re-writing them!
I was thinking about it being awfully dangerous when his wheel came off but they've not penalised anyone else for things coming off in this way, least of all Barrichello following his shedding of crucial parts this weekend.
Oops...
take photos. ;)
:D
They're not that appealing, car's pretty very average most of the year
i'm totally okay with the suspension. it was dangerous. simple. and they knew about it.
wow they really have been carting the red shirts around all year
http://motorsport.com/photos/f1/2009/hun/f1-2009-hun-xp-1024.jpg
:D
Important note. Whatever you say Mr C.
I do not find Flav appealing.
heikki looks like he'd rather be somewhere else...
#sorryamy
I disappear for 20 minutes and people are talking about penalties. What is the short version of whatever happened as I have 140 comments to read through to find it?
:D
:D
Same here: writing FR post for my blog!
Renault banned next race for Alonso's wheel
Renault suspended from European GP
Renault banned from Valencia; speculation over Alonso taking Massa's seat for then.
renault suspended from next gp
webber release in pits was reprimand.
kimi lap 1 was a racing incident
This reminds me of the Simpson's episode where Kent Brockman sulks because he doesn't get his Danish. I can see it now:
Mr C: "...Yeah I know I'm on live, but I don't care. I don't do the Debrief until i get my Renault. Go ahead, find someone else to do it"
*Alex prompt shoves him out the way*
couldn't they just not let the team have points, but let the drivers compete?... it's not Alonso's fault....
That is insane. That was a simple mistake that has happened many times in the past and never been penalised.
Banned why?
:D :D
Hehehehehe.
i hope he's wearing the bee costume!
didnt he stop last time it happened though?
ai ai aiiiiiii!!!
What a surprise. It would be an interesting way of achieving that
actually, you could argue that it was partly Alonso's fault - he should've known better than to try bringing it back...
read this
in less than 140 characters
Renault has been suspended from the European Grand Prix for the wheel loss suffered by Fernando Alonso from Noble on twitter.
Gavin: Banned for Alonso's wheel coming off
He could've pulled over
stupid
stupid
fair
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/07/26/live-hastily-rewriting-on-the-fly/
Oh, what happened to Webber? I hadn't heard that one yet
Now Gavin's been banned?
What did he do wrong?!
:P
Just another example of how inconsistent and incompotent the stewards are.
Alex: "Renault have been suspended from the European GP. Ay ay ay! No me gusta Alonso!"
I think the offense is Alonso driving back to the pits on 3 wheels. Vettel was given a 10-place penalty for doing it in Australia - and as Keith C said, the teams may have been warned not to try it again.
please don't disappear again this weekend
Early pit release
Reprimand
The bee speaks Spanish! Perfect. :D
I disagree. I'm fine with all of these decisions.
christine's broken it.
:)
probably thinking back to happier times.

Thats a fake smile from LewHam if ever i saw one :D

LCM Dragons - Fantastic! 701 points thanks to an inspired decision to include both Kovalainen and Rosberg. With Button, Trulli and Nakajima putting in reasonable scores and Fisichella finishing somewhere other than last, it's LCM's best result since Australia, and good for 120th in the entire competition (for this race, at any rate).
LCM Barato - 474 points is below-par for this team. Nakajima's good run was cancelled out by Sutil's early retirement, while everyone else queued. When four of your team's five finishers cross the line in a loose queue of 11-12-13-14, you know your team's having a bad day...
LCM Caro - 241 points. Rubbish! Just Rubbish! That's despite the team including points-scoring Jenson Button. The blame for this can be pointed squarely at Vettel's suspension, which caused an early bath and few points from his quarter. The thing about having a team with only two drivers is that it tends not to thrive when one of them obtains a DNF...
LCM Aléman - 449 points is not like this team at all. Its worst score since Malaysia (when few points were given for laps completed). Two of the five (Sutil and Vettel) were among the three retirements. Also, Heidfeld's BMW simply wasn't up to the pace. The team was largely saved by Rosberg and Glock, who got 280 points between them.
LCM Fire Lizard - 534 points is a very nice tally, despite Sutil not finishing the race. However, Fisichella finished and passed Buemi, Trulli and Button turned in respectable races and Hamilton was nice enough to win :)
#fr (Initial driver changes)
LCM Barato, in the light of Renault's suspension, needed modifying. Out went Piquet Jr. and in came Sebastien Buemi. There is now $5m of spare change in the team.
LCM Caro and LCM Aléman remain unchanged.
LCM Dragons and LCM Fire Lizard will be modified according to the results of Friday practise. Since Massa and the Renault drivers do not feature in either team, no changes are forced to happen.
I was thinking about it being awfully dangerous when his wheel came off but they’ve not penalised anyone else for things coming off in this way, least of all Barrichello following his shedding of crucial parts this weekend. {Comment #769}
That may yet happen. An investigation is ongoing.
Bernie has called Sid out of retirement for this one, then. I guess Sid will make some recommendations to the TWG on what they can do {Comment #237}
I didn't think Sid had retired. He's been on the Expert Advisory Group for safety since 2004 and since he left F1 he's been concentrating on that side of the safety equation.
am currently trying to work out if going to see Jenson in the London Tri next weekend (and getting there for 7:30am!!) is a good idea… {Comment #380}
If I were you, I'd get a good position near the start of whichever part of the triathlon is your favourite, and then sneak back to an internet-equipped computer in time for Sidepodradio if possible.
jumps into daily thread :)
Good idea
*sits in daily thread writing up material for next week*
You're awesome :)
I'm so jealous of James May right now... :D
Who's that?
Not much in the way of intellectual converstion for James though ;)
So who was going to interview me for my blog?
I've just found one of the scariest/ weirdest f1 related photos ever... link. i really don't like the winner's shirts...
Madison Welch, glamour model. Let's just say...I know of her. ;) :D
Steven is going to give us the questions, and we'll call you up and play them to you to answer.
Steven Roy, wasn't it?
Me

Sounds good...
Is it me or is this Bernie's motorhome that she is coming out of? why does she need to see Bernie?... although she doesn't look too happy..

Keep standing by that camera and jump up and down, it'll get us plenty of publicity
Nice to see a happy Norbert again
How have Mclaren not got a Tango sponsorship?
#RWS WTCC: Eventually had enough and pulled out. Car was not handling how I wanted it to and the leaders were continuously pulling away. Shall not be racing any more this evening. Hoping Porto will be a better race.
Am looking through photos again :)
This photo confuses me, i'm not sure why though.
Whitmarsh copied Mr Brawn :(
sad vettel :(
I get why Vettel was sad... but what's up with her?..
wow... F1 teams do speak to each other...
Am going to take a photograph just like this one day :)
She's found out Hamilton isn't top of the championship?
Can't blame him though :)
Thats a nice photo :)
...........huh. New pitwear for 2010?
She got the wrong end of the stick when Lewis said 'I'll give you a ring'
nah, i'd do it too..:) i'm strangely happy for Mclaren actually :)
Gonna take a shower to cool off. The RWS issues has really got me annoyed. Be back in a bit.
You like the underdogs ;)
Forgot the hash-tag :)
Mclaren aren't underdogs... they never were... not to me :P to tell you the truth i'm pleased Lewis helped the brawns out a bit today :P
Suspension component similar to the offending article
They have been this season, not anymore though
they just had a blip :( underdogs = BMW... sorry rg...

I'm probably going to spend the rest of this evening writing up some bits for my radio show. Means a scan through VirtualR.net to find some topics of interest.
aww :)
I've written up half of the stuff I wanna do. Woo!
From cheeekymonkey84 on twitter
From THEScuderia.net, one member received a text from Lucy Smedley - All signs are still positive, Felipe making good progress, doctors not sure yet when they will be bringing him out of the induced coma but his body will indicate when it is the right time, but the doctors are making very positive statements. Rob says the doctors looking after him are fantastic.

Wonderful news :)
Very, very cool. We heart our Sidepodhosts :)
You sound like Lewis in Germany!
Just needs "The team did a fantastic job this weekend" on the end ;)
It might turn out to be a show full of non-F1 sim racing stuff, but there is a great looking 2009 mod in the works so will look to give that a mention.
Tis all good. Mr C's cooking show will contain very few references to F1, I reckon. Except maybe: This is turning out a bit Piquet. ;)
I should say my half hour is completely F1. Every single bit of it. consider it a light hearted look at the sport and whatnot. :)
Hopefully it'll be alright but so far it seems solid stuff! Part of it will be the voicemail I sent a few weeks ago that was like... 5 minutes long but it seems better to do it there than waste Debrief time, plus it fits in v.well.
:D
I want to see a comparison to his cooking and LPG's :D
Sounds excellent. We need to dig that voicemail out then.
*but better. Consider it a new and improved version, obviously it hasn't been played so noone knows what it consisted of anyway :P
No it's fine, no need to :)
Have rewritten what I said to fit the show
Ah, goodo :)
Let us know if you see something interesting...
Murray Walker is away, so Mr Legard is standing in: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jonathanlegard/2009/07/send-me-your-questions.html
Oh lord.
This may turn out not to be an f1 reference soon...;)
Been talking to her most of the evening - she seems nice :)
iRacing always has new news coming out. Recently unveiled a classic F1 car as well. That's 2 F1 references so far!

Was expecting negativity to legard but it took 1 comment, I see.
:D
Hey, I can be your rFactor correspondent ;)
Good point! We'll have to come up with a new one.
Is it worth watching the race or just the first 2 laps?
You're free to find news stories of your own and talk about them on the show. It's not just gonna be me talking all the time :P
Watch most of it, mid bit was a bit zzz, but most of it was pretty good
i enjoyed the race... i'd say you should watch it.. if only for the pitstops...
So laps 1-2 and Lap 70 then?
Something like that
Why don't you just wait for the highlights?
When are they on and for how long?
Completely forgot about them. :D
Aren't they constantly rolling on the red button?
OK sounds good ... I'll see what I can find ;)
Yeah I'd say watch it - it was entertaining, not brilliant but good!
Good good. :)
???
F1 highlights? On the red button? Or do they not happen aft
Does he realise the kind of questions people will send him?
after the race?
:D
"Why are you so s..."
ooh, i think we should.
aren't they just during the race?
Are you completely off F1 right now?
Haven't seen any of the last 2 races at all.
why bother with this one then?
Isn't that a little mean?
Is Murray away, to audition for your commentry role while your not looking?
Maybe it's like James Allen, it's just the voice
not if its deserved.
What's up?
"Dear Mr Legard,
Have you ever listened to Radio 5 live during a race? It's so good! David Croft and Anthony Davidson are fantastic and they provide so much mroe informatoin tha...
....oh. Well. Um. This is awkward.
Keep up the, ur, work!
constructive critisism?
:D !
Your comedy show is going to be gold :)
I just don't care anymore.
Thwax can do whatever he wants to the sport.
eheheh
why haven't you quite yet?
*quit
I can vouch for the quality of her brownies
so why are you planning to watch the 1st two laps of todays? am confused.
how long is your contract with the bbc?..
something like that
Other Motorsport fills the void?
:D
me too! her cookies were delicious!
To be honest, there's not been that massive political row recently. Everything seems to have gone quiet on that front and now it just seems to be about the racing again.
They were very awesome
I come and go, today im doing good, tis getting better
They have rolling replay highlights for hours
Nope. Grand Prix Legends/Toca RD3/ GP4 aren't even installed anymore.
Although - I did see this the other day and get a warm fuzzy"I want" feeling
Just to check, is the meetup at Classic Team Lotus still going to happen? I'm still quite looking forward to that.
Is there nothing we can do to help? :(
what about, how tough was the competition for your job? and
how much did you paywas it a surprise to get the call telling you you got it?:D
i meant watching motorsport but hey, thats cool too :)
Ah this has prompted me to put lots of lovely legard ideas in now. hehehe.
A good flight sim when you have the proper controls is awesome
Eddie Jordan is an idiot
Titanium springs, fool!
I find that helps. I tend to go into phases where I'm into one form of motorsport for a while and then another the next. Right now, it's F1 but I'm starting to get into that classic IMSA Camel GT/ Trans-am stuff.
Hear hear. The iPhone one isn't great though.
Speaking of which, has anyone tried out 'Real Racing' for the iPod? It's awesome!
Not yet
Just picked up worms, very nice
I have it! It's brilliant! They recently put some new V12 Exotic cars on in a update. :D
I used to follow watching a racing series / Football with some associated video games...
You poor thing - I would go and see a doctor for that!
you just realised?...
knew you'd like it ;)
It is awesome though!
No, just re-affirming my beliefs
I had that coming, realised after I hit 'post comment' :)
:) well at least he is consistently an idiot ;)
I'm not sure about accelerometer controlled games yet
One thing I do find annoying is the AI. It seems if you go just one class up, from C to B, they're so aggressive. You so much as touch them just a bit and they shove you off the track!
Ahh you had an 'ohnosecond'!
Indeed
Neither am I but this one is different!
I have it on auto accelerate and just use the touch screen to brake.
Ok, £6 though
A small sum but in App store terms...
Steering responsiveness?
You can alter it to your liking.
I know, but it's good?
Grrrr
Strangled by Virgin Media
Throttled, I mean ;)
i'm still not sure if i'm pleased or upset that dad decided to decline their offer of letting us be part of their super amazing internet trial...
Well you can play it on a train... and it feels quite good I reckon...
Yeah, from what I've played of it it's accurate. You only need to probably turn about 45 degrees at max and that's enough. It's all about precision really, which it's good at.
When they were Ntl, they were awful
Since becoming VM they have improved immensely. I just hate their BB throttling policy.
My fault, should've waited till 10 o'c
out of interest has anyone ever been to Goodwood revival?
No
Yup.
Better than Goodwood FoS and most other historic events too.
is that the circuit one?
cool. thank you :)
Yup.
Have to dress up though. Went as a Spiv last time. Pinstripe suit, greased down hair etc... :D
Fantastic to see E-Type lightweights racing properly *and getting almost written off by a famous F1 car designer*
Sounds good to me!
Sounds awful! Fancy dress = hell on earth.
Agreed
I've always wanted to go to a fancy dress event as the Stig. Don't know why, just quite liked the idea. :D
Though, suited as a '30's gangster could be ok
Except for that bit of course!
yeah i was thinking that... you always have to put so much thought into the outfit and stuff. was just weighing up pros and cons of going in my mind, cause dad was offered free tickets last time and because we couldn't go he declined. Am preparing myself if it happens again..
Mr C says I have to tell everyone that he was right about the email that I forgot in the show. He did tell me and I missed it.
How childish is he? ;)
No surprises there though ;)
You did kinda call him a liar live on air though :)
oi! i didn't say to say that bit, did i?
oi!
I backed you up after though ;)
noted. thank you ;)
haha :)
i once went to a party dressed as a panda.
:)
Bet that was hot
i tell ya. it was!
i'm surprised you didn't catch fire. i hear those suits are a bit flammable... you should have gone dressed as the stig that way you would have been safer if a fire did break out ;)
now you tell me!
It's pass the buck moment of the week..
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77359
Apparently the Ducati riders chose their own tyres...
They should be fired
i think around the time you suggested you would never dress up in a panda suit... if you'd have told us... :P
Lou has a very good point
but if you did it properly it would cost over £1500....
grrr. now you're arguing with logic.
Speaking of which, did you get some new software this week, or it it just app-lust?
Sorry I had to leave rather abruptly earlier it was...
STOP
Dinner Time.
Evening all, just finished watching the race. Would have enjoyed it better without THAT WOMAN.
app lust.
new fcp and logic releases, but we don't need the first given we're not doing that many videos right now, and we haven't time to learn the second just yet (and we both have to upgrade at the same time for compatibility reasons).
Mint sauce?
Can't eat this, du dududu, du du, du du...
Don't forget to talk to me before making a purchase.
Alex & Mr C might know
Can I configure a key to be a particular character
Next Mac keyboard must have Twitter-friendly #
try looking through the f1 pics from this weekend :( every 5th one taken today was of her, hardly any of Brawn GP *sob*
alt+3, tis easy.
watch it you! Hehe
I have that with MacBook Pros
Alu-lust
And I don't want to spend lots of money on HATEFUL SOFTWARE.
if you figure it out Mr C may need it for all those biting questions he has ;)
Ta, must remember that
:o Logic didn't work out too well with Jenson and tyre choices today.. :( best stay away from logic for a bit :)
I missed something, it seems
More blasphemy :)
replays are up if you want to catch up.
And people wonder why Lewis is hated so much? she doesn't help!
it's bernie's fault. i bet he keeps inviting her. i'm sure lewis doesn't even know who she is.
if it helps i like Lewis a lot more this year, still don't like her though.
Of...?
Parade Lap
Do you think Lewis thinks its his step mum?
Same here....
yup. really worth watching if you've not seen it.
f1..today
hehe :) wonderful machines.
(they completely wreck you for pcs though, any interaction with windows now turns into a rant about how slow/uselss/horrible microsoft is. I've had the mbp 3 weeks. never.going.back.)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-141
Is it any co-incidence that Google ends in ogle? {Comment #837}
Yes. The inventors of Google wanted to call it after a huge number (1 with 100 zeros following it*) and didn't have a good enough dictionary...
On the upside, they did end up with a brand name they could copyright!
* - This is known as a "googol".
Same
:D
Just watched Mock the Week again on BBC2, so funny :D
why doesn't that work on christine?
:)
Hear hear.
Mr C:
Did you see this and also this?
Ooh, I had one of those too. It was up there for ages, but eventually sunk in to my sieve-like memory :)
She likes Excel
There's no hope on that front
If you lived through what I do with this nonsense should-be-called-the-opposite-of-logic software on a daily basis, you might not say that.
Some times there's nothing you can do to make people understand why macs are so much better.
Mac's don't have # keys?
yeah. i think we concluded we weren't smart enough to explain it. unless anyone has had new thoughts?
I know the Mac is better. That doesn't mean I have to prefer it.
That was the million pound question on Who Wants to be a Millionaire once?
Mine doesn't
Though I've just found out where it is, though is unmarked
Really?
It's not that obscure
but... why?...
I thought the pics indicated the unevenness of the ground
They do on US models, you just press shift 3 for a pound sign (£) and alt 3 for a #.
Car bouncing over the surface, sometimes in in contact, sometimes not.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-141
i think also...
- when something goes wrong with your pc, you say "mr. c help".
- when something goes wrong with your mac, you say "mr. c help".
the resolution is always the same.
if you were to have to solve either issue on your lonesome...
that's silly.
*runs*
This is bad...
Other half is watching a serious program on the events in Pompeii when the volcano erupted.
All I have going through my mind is Frankie Howard going "Ooooooh no missus! Titter not!"
could be. very evenly spaced though.
It's funny. I'm sure I owned a computer before I met you.
I have to admit I don't use Logic at all, but I have colleagues who do and swear by it. If you could be a bit more specific about what the issues are, perhaps I can help resolve them?
You're right though
Before Twitter, # wasn't used an awful lot here
People prefer No. to #
they just had a blip :( underdogs = BMW… sorry rg…
And FI
[Sorry Alianora] {Comment #871}
There's no need to apologise for telling the truth. The fact that Force India is an underdog team is not exactly breaking news...
how many times did i go back to the shop? how many times has the mac?
Eek!
I like #
it looks like waffles
Cement spreader width
What would have happened if it was gravel there though?
That's quite normal
Toasted mania in effect
No tyre marks?
what happened to their pace this weekend? {Comment #878}
Well, they were supposed to have upgrades, but they also had to bring a load of modifications to cool the cars (which the race showed weren't sufficient for Sutil's water cooling system). Maybe the cooling stuff outweighted the upgrades?
Thats alright then. :D
*goes to find Up Pompeii DVD....*
:)
WOuld it have slowed him down and would that have helped?
ahh. could well be.
Why? The Mac keyboard shortcuts are generally more elegant. For example.to type an acute accent, you type alt-e and then the letter you want to have the accent. It actually shows you on screen the accent with no letter below it. So much easier than having to remember Alt-0136 or whatever it is on a PC.
I don't even mind the @ key being in the "wrong place", like 2 finger scrolling, I miss it when using a PC laptop.
Many, many, many things. Two very specific examples:
1) I edit all night, and upon export, it adds silence at the beginning and cuts the end off.
2) Sometimes when I try and normalise a track, the option is greyed out for no reason. I restart the project, the option is there.
It's genius software but very, very flawed.
the problem wasn't the speed that he hit the barriers was it?
:D
am assuming we're discussing whether ferrari have illegal abs, btw.
Which lends weight to my theory as the car would be bouncing at a constant(ish) natural frequency.
Wasn't the impact with the wall the reason he broke the back of his skull?
I did wonder, if his helmet hitting the steering wheel that did the damage
The suspension component impact maybe just dislodging the visor and stunning him
i suppose to me i find it easier to hit a key than remember any kinda shortcut... i still want a mac though...
ahh could be. am discussing something else though.
what do you mean?
agreed. it's seems more likely than an illegal braking system.
Also, I can never think of a famous philosopher without thinking of the Monty Python song
the gaps are evenly spaced. don't worry, i think bassano, andy and i are on the same wavelength.
I'm heading off, I'll see you guys tomorrow
night!
f1 minute for today.
and with that, i think we must be done for the weekend.
I have to admit to singing that song rather loud earlier today... :D
And when someone mentions that they need to creosote their fence...
ABS is designed to prevent the wheel locking up, so you'd see no tyre marks at all.
Jolly good effort all round
Many thanks to you two
There's nothing wrong with that.
yay! :) you can rest now, has been one heck of a busy weekend.
i'm pretty tired but i think it will be some time till i head off to sleep, i had the scariest f1 dream yesterday about Massa and stuff so i'll just stay up till i'm exhausted and will definitely sleep i think.
EEEEEEmanuel Kant
As karaoke at the gym?
They were having an even and roped me in when I was trying to leave. They did have other Python songs too which were tempting.
I seem to be singing the Italian national anthem lots recently, is there something wrong with me?
Good for you!
Think I'll hit the proverbial sack too. Good night everybody!
Karaoke is NEVER okay
Too much Moto GP?
I had to sing HSM songs at Karaoke...that was a bad evening
The italian national anthem is awesome :) it's the main reason i love Ferrari wins cause it just gets stuck in my head for days :)
Ooooh could be, i thought it was F1 with Ferrari + Vettel last year at Torro Rosso
Yup. :D First two were very tempting.
It was essentially the whole Monty Python Sings album.
Needs a bit more gravitas for a national anthem IMO
Still better than our dirge of a song.
Land of Hope and Glory when performed at the last night of the proms is how it should be.
Nah. Barwick Green should be the National Anthem. All together now - dum de dum de dum de dum....
Great. Must listen to that again. Have you heard Eric Idle Sings Monty Python? It has him reading the poem they sent Univeral Pictures when they were trying to get funding for The Meaning of Life
Karaoke is NEVER okay {Comment #1132}
It was bad enough having to listen to "Wonderwall" being sung in about sixty different keys after qualifying at Silverstone...
One of my favourite Python's that. Just behind Live at Drury Lane.
Every Oasis concert is like Karaoke, crowd is louder than the band :(
:D
Corrected. ;)
Not surprising when the lead singer walks off halfway through the gig (again).
Does that include this version? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy1ueZf1WMQ
Especially that version! :P
Sounds like a Songsmith rendition now, or Richard Cheese
[Too painful]
Nooo! Mike Flowers is ace.
Prefer Mr Cheese
Lounge Against The Machine
I never thought i'd say this, but @fakemosley has given me an idea...
Surely, because Renault have appealed, the next 4 weeks will be filled with the appeal hearing, and/or if its not seen before then, surely Renault would race under appeal in valencia?
"I know this track well, the corners and stuff"
Trulli on Hungaroring...
Quality!
Winner of Obvious quote of the week!!
"I know this car well, the pedals and stuff."
Is the general thinking that Alonso wouldn't be allowed to race with Ferrari at Valencia? Seems too ridiculous to happen unfortunately.
Possible, but getting Flav to let him or out of his contract may be another thing
They could do a loan deal for a good financial sum perhaps.
Don't think Flav wants to lose him, especially if he likes it there
