Boxing Day traditionally means recovering from the day before and eating all that leftover turkey. It will be turkey sandwiches and turkey curry for everyone for weeks, I'm sure. We were right about the F1 news, though, there was very little. Here's what we're talking about:

  • Autosport have an interesting article about ten things that didn't happen this year. I'm assuming they mean things that we believed would happen, otherwise that would be a pretty hard list to narrow down! Some of the things could still happen, so we'll have to keep our eyes peeled.
  • Poor Donington Park didn't get the Christmas present they were looking for as they couldn't find a buyer for the lease, and therefore the future is looking pretty bleak. We've discussed the Donington thing in great detail before, but it's sad times.
  • There was a special festive edition of F1 Minute yesterday with a couple of statistics, some facts and figures, and a special thank you to all who have listened this year. The Minute is on a break until the new year now, so there had better not be any massive breaking news.

That'll do it for now, hope everyone is enjoying the holidays, and we will see you in the comments.

well... that's the thing... i decided i was brave enough to deal with it.. walked up to it with a tissue box to try and kill it and it fell from the wall and i ran away. now i think it's under my sofa, or under the tissue box i dropped... either way i'm keeping a look out..

    I feel the same

    Close call was it?

  • Alison26/12/2009 at 00:50

    I feel the same

    Close call was it?

Yes. With my mother it could go either way... Also it's hard to be excited about flight compression stockings. She's trying to make me scared of flying. Having given up making me frightened about crashing or terrorists, we've started at DVT :P

  • Bassano26/12/2009 at 00:55

Yes. With my mother it could go either way...

    I can sympathise with that

Luckily, this year I escaped that trauma

These things don't really concern me, although the thought of getting DVT makes me feel faint. I find it really sickening :P

favourite bit is the "high def video production" picture. we've had that for 3 years and our budget is essentially zero.

It makes me wonder how Chad Hurley managed to make any money :D

    by complete fluke i'm sure.

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 02:50

It's 10 months since they launched the team but they have yet to produce a 1 minute video that looks like it came from a remotely serious organisation.

  • Alison26/12/2009 at 02:50

Also isn't AD the last race of the year? Has no-one told USF1?

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 02:52

Also isn't AD the last race of the year? Has no-one told USF1?

Most folk are concerned about them making the first race. It dosn't matter to them whether the last race is in Abu Dhabi or Alpha Centauri

  • me26/12/2009 at 02:52

Also isn't AD the last race of the year? Has no-one told USF1?

they're not planning on getting that far.

  • Amy26/12/2009 at 02:53

they're not planning on getting that far.

I wonder if the Windsor Report will continue on Australian coverage "so, Peter, why is your team so crap?"

  • Alison26/12/2009 at 02:53

they're not planning on getting that far.

Doesn't sound like anyone else much wants to either :P #sorrynick

How can they only have three people on their team page when we are only 80 off fays from the start of the season?

  • me26/12/2009 at 02:53

if you hang around on the contact page for long enough, it still redirects to grandprix.com. really must ask joe about that.

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 02:56

The Partners page is unusual. All they are doing is listing companies that have supplied them anything rather than companies they have some kind of deal with. When the last video was released on youtube I noticed that their autoclave had American Autoclave on the door so I had a look at their site. They have a load of high profile customers mentioned but no USF1.

  • Alison26/12/2009 at 02:57

it seems unlikely they'd be partnering with mclaren electronics.

yes, full of unusually poor resolution logos ...

if that site is sign of things to come, they will be as successful as mastercard lola ...

    ECU

agreed. but not a partnership. they just supply the box.

  • KerbRider26/12/2009 at 03:01

@ Mr C "it seems unlikely they'd be partnering with mclaren electronics"

This would be the standard ECU. Like steven said, they seem to have listed anyone they found in the yellow pages.

Why are we doubting theyll make Bahrain tho?

  • F1Wolf26/12/2009 at 03:01

OK, the y have their ECU partner there, but then, what has happened to Cosworth ? why the engine supplier is missing ?

  • me26/12/2009 at 03:02

OK, the y have their ECU partner there, but then, what has happened to Cosworth ? why the engine supplier is missing ?

    oooooh!

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 03:02

There is nothing being made in that machine shop. That is a set up pic to make it look like it is working. There is no place marked yet for work in/out etc. These are effectively fully auto machines but all three that have people at them happen to have the doors open with the men working on them.

    #Fake

  • me26/12/2009 at 03:03

Why are we doubting theyll make Bahrain tho?

i think we could all do a better job.

    they've overpromised and underdelivered.

  • F1Wolf26/12/2009 at 03:03

anybody else feels that this site is 3 day job quickly put together after the latest Bernie comments on them and Campos ?

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 03:03

agreed. but not a partnership. they just supply the box.

I think that will be the case for most of them. They may get a few % discount but that is all.

  • me26/12/2009 at 03:03

    yup.

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 03:04

Why are we doubting theyll make Bahrain tho?

So far we have seen no sign of them doing anything that looks real. Everything they have posted looks fake.

  • KerbRider26/12/2009 at 03:04

Whats this aragon place gonna be like. the F1 racing feature was a bit ambiguous, and dont think f1rqacing opinion can be counted as it seems their opinion is frequently on sale

  • F1Wolf26/12/2009 at 03:04

    yup.

and Windsor's blog entry sounds like response to Joe's comments in the last Aside :-)

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 03:04

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 03:05

It is not a working site. It may be they are mid-installation but there is no way that is a working factory.

  • KerbRider26/12/2009 at 03:06

Fair enough, but personaly i hope they do make it. F1 needs a US team. F1 needs the US market, unless it is coimpromised for US tastes. It wont wanna go down that cheap track

  • F1Wolf26/12/2009 at 03:06

may be they switched to pedal power in the last minute

and will announce Lance Armstrong next week :-)

  • me26/12/2009 at 03:06

and Windsor's blog entry sounds like response to Joe's comments in the last Aside :-)

hehe. what the heck does this mean:

We’re all in the entertainment business we call F1 and there seemed little or no point in adding to the situation from the perspective of a new team.

that is exactly what i'm interested in hearing about!

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 03:08

I don't understand the pictures in their reception. It's nice to see someone with an interest in history and the Gurney/Eagle pic is from the last American team but why put up a Lotus when there is another team this year calling themselves Lotus?

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 03:10

Fair enough, but personaly i hope they do make it. F1 needs a US team. F1 needs the US market, unless it is coimpromised for US tastes. It wont wanna go down that cheap track

I hope it works and they may be doing things right but their videos are unconvincing. According to their website it is 10 months since they announced the team and at that time they said they would be giving Speed access to the factory to show fans what they were doing and all we have had is a coupl of youtube clips that look very dodgy.

  • KerbRider26/12/2009 at 03:11

but why put up a Lotus when there is another team this year calling themselves Lotus?

Windsor being self indulgent and his typical F1 snobbish self. The guy thinks a little to much of himself if you ask me

  • me26/12/2009 at 03:11

unless i'm missing it, i don't see a media section either. how is anyone supposed to cover the team if they're not supplying official press releases or editorial images?

  • F1Wolf26/12/2009 at 03:12

yes, and website that looks weird considering they have big name web guy on board ...

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 03:14

American racers came over in 1921 for the biggest event of the European racing calendar - the Grand Prix de l'Automobile Club de France

Why do I think the Legacy pice has been lifted from someone else? Maybe because we have a US company talking about American drivers who CAME over to Europe. Seems odd to write it as if a European is speaking.

  • KerbRider26/12/2009 at 03:15

  • Steven Roy26/12/2009 at 03:21

It's interesting how many of the American teams in the Legacy section only managed one or two seasons before going bust. Semms odd to highlight them and detail their failure..

best is Heidfeld, he has no seat yet but odds same as Rubens :-)

Identical equipment but they give Button a third to half the chance.

    Mm, I heart David Tennant.

    Woo! :D

So what's he going to do with himself when he stops being Doctor Who?

I imagine he'll got roles in films and such, his stock as an actor has sky rocketed because of Doctor Who, and he'll be back in a heartbeat if he's asked.

Writing up a blog at the moment, and having christmas lunch v2 because there's so much turkey and stuff left :) but mostly relaxing.

Bit alarming waking up to see my mum had invited my boss over...

  • lou26/12/2009 at 12:50

    You?

sorting out uni things, sulking that i can't go out and take pics cause it's too cold and mum wants to stay home, and probably consuming too much caffeine and watching too much iplayer :)

:D Heehee. Boxing Day doesn't exist here per se, but I've always thought of it as the Post-Christmas-Sale Day. Up to 70% off on selected items!

Got IMAX tickets for Avatar (was supposed to watch today, but all the screenings for today were sold out by 3 PM!)

Blimey.... The joys of Cumbrian countryside!

I'm not sure if I'm daft enough to head into town now. I'm sure it'll be manic. I need to get some stuff in the sales though. Plus I have a suitcase to collect and I won't have time after work tomorrow :(

    I think it must be an Andretti Lotus so they are trying to associate themselves with him but it is an odd choice. {Comment #178}

I think they're trying to say, "We appreciate F1 history" and "We are American".

Note to USF1: if F1 history appreciation alone made for a stellar F1 team, then RSPCRF1 would be 2010 title candidates in real life and not just on the wiki...

Second note to USF1: if nationalism alone made for a stellar F1 team, Ferrari and Force India would have been 2009 title contenders rather than Red Bull and Brawn...

The site loads and works correctly on my computer, which makes a change... ...but there was nothing particularly compelling and it doesn't convince me that USF1 are ready. Let alone that they intend to deliver on the promises they made earlier this year with regard to access and openness.

Still, a functional site is better than a non-functional site.

I still dont like brawns site, it looks ok but it irks me

sadly not... it was a little cold and mum didn't want to go down to the beach. she said we can go out tomorrow though, i just need to think of somewhere to go... i kinda fancy going to the zoo... not sure what else we could do.

There probably isn't time to react to any danger if you are that close. They just sit there and make sure they get the shot. Normally they are not in any real danger.

If you were an imposter I would not be backing you. Scottish people are not known for our tolerance of foreigners pretending to be Scottish. If you were born in the sea it would not make you a fish.

I just listened to last year's 2008 in Audio show. I heart montages.

I'd really, really like to make one for this year, but it is so tough. We asked for suggestions before of your best bits from the year, and we didn't get an enormous response, but I'll give it another go. If you have any bits you can remember from the year, bits that stand out, any time we got it wrong or made you laugh, then please just note it down, give us a clue where we can find it.

Sidepodradio will have it's own best of but anything else is fair game.

Maybe a hashtag would work too.

It was one paragraph containing about 500 words including some very un-sidepodcast-friendly language. As usual from the provisional wing of his fan club Michael was perfect and every other driver he mentioned was garbage in comparison. Usual mindless rant.

Unfortunately it will get a lot worse. As soon as something goes against Schumacher or he does something dodgy or his results are particularly bad/good they will all turn up and the F1 section of the internet will be full of bile until he retires.

@Steven Roy, thanks for noticing American Autoclave Company's Logo on the autoclave. You have the eyes of an eagle! It wasn't an easy task for us to pause at the right second to make out our name. Regarding:

"The Partners page is unusual. All they are doing is listing companies that have supplied them anything rather than companies they have some kind of deal with. When the last video was released on youtube I noticed that their autoclave had American Autoclave on the door so I had a look at their site. They have a load of high profile customers mentioned but no USF1."

We've just updated our site to reference US F1; thanks for bringing this to our attention.
