We're recovering from Monaco today (and the Indy 500 if you partake of such things), and thankfully in the UK we have another bank holiday to make the most of. Others are not so lucky, but let us know what you're up to either way. Here are some things we're discussing:
- Despite Mosley's suggestions that the teams were coming round to the idea of a budget cap, AUTOSPORT is reporting that the teams have written a letter to the FIA demanding the 2010 regulations are scrapped. Now, either Max got the wrong end of the stick in the meeting, or he was bending the truth when he talked to the BBC, but the teams are clearly not on board yet.
- Despite an improved showing from the team, Massa has suggested that it's no use getting excited about a Ferrari comeback yet. I'm not sure any of us were, but it's good that Massa isn't raising his hopes just yet either.
- Although it's no longer a preview to the race, the Parade Lap is still worth checking out. There's actually very little specific F1 talk, with just a general enjoyment of all things motor racing, plus some excellent Giggles'll Fix It suggestions.
That'll do it for now. The Debrief will be along very shortly, so you can also enjoy the edited podcast in all it's glory. As normal, I'll see you in the comments.
Hello new daily thread
What's the betting it rains today, Bank Holiday an'all?
huh? it got dark... and it's 12am... how did that happen!
Think it looks as good as today! Er, yesterday!
:D
It got dark...
I know and im barely 1/5th through catching up on all the sport!
Welcome to sidepodcast?
*cries* i've just seen my emails for today/yesterday.... how can i get that many emails on a sunday :( i need to learn to check them more regularly on a race day...
Here's hoping, but not holding my breath
I'm working anyway
the last time i looked at the clock it was 8.30pm and still light.. :(
Vijay's team lost the IPL final, bet he wishes he was in Monaco, must have cost a fair bit to park a boat there he didn't use for most of the weekend
yay for new far more mobile friendly post!
Just checking the BBC weather site. Radar shows spotted showers over my location from about 1pm to 6pm. Grr.
Small change, Fake Flav calls him Indian Branson :)
But the richer they are the stingier they get! :D
Boo, no listeners on the map for Montreal yet
Sidepod Meet-up - International is not going well
Im annoyed the city i grew up in inst represented at all!
And it inst Montreal or anywhere near it! tempted to fill a big hole on the map...
Nick, you grew up in Montreal.. Awesome city.
Can always post it as your origins
http://platial.com/map/Sidepodcast-s-Listeners/594335/#post4397189
or
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Listener+Map
Tomorrow's lunch to prepare, I shall return
OK, map is now much more balanced
i think i'm going to end up overloading my laptop soon... it's suddenly got very hot and it's making very load fan noises.... being a hyper brawn fan (yes i'm still hyper) is bad for my laptop...
Good stuff.
Being a fan of F1 or any racing will do that..
Yes and Florida is now represented
I ended up using one of these after my laptop melted part of my desk at uni http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-F5L001er-Laptop-Cooling-Stand/dp/B000W0D15O
I am clearing my racing brain by watching an ep of The Apprentice from a couple of weeks ago. Like everything else, I'm a bit behind... but these smart yet idiotic people are just too compelling
Loved the fact you left the thread to help someone drowning last night and picked it up like nothing had happened!
He did??
strange questions (but i'm tired and doing waaaay too many things at once) but is it just a little stand with a fan? cause if so it's a great idea.
It wasn't as great as you thought. We got halfway across the bay in our boat when the Coast Guard cancelled us, so we had to wash the boat and got nothing for it. It really sucked, I would have rather stayed in the live doohickey, then gone to bed at a reasonable hour
I was worried about not getting enough sleep. I rushed home and watched Monaco, but was worried about nodding off during the Indy 500...no jokes please
Boats, Saving lives... Far more dramatic than anything i have achived recently, other than playing hide and seek with a stupid spider... which i lost.
ah-ha. joe from florida, not joe from ireland?
sorry, my brain struggled with that for a good five minutes before it clicked.
looks like we have 2 joes ;)
What do you think rates higher, Jenson's glory jog, or Hello's climbing?
I understand battling the beasts. I have a rat whose days are numbered....I hope
that is quite dramatic though. i missed the original comment, hope you managed the full 500.
heheheh.
Morning, everyone!
Jenson's glory jog! :D Helio always does his Spiderman thing. Jenson's was new - and tougher too. ;)
debrief is up btw: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/25/f1-debrief-i-might-like-tall-blokes-with-goggly-eyes/
hola.
That was QUICK! :D
short show and it's bank holiday, so christine can stay up late.
plus, she's a genius, obviously.
Hi Journeyer.
Normally I'd agree but this time Helio could have been sat in jail right now instead, so it means a lot...
Hola, yes Nick caught the entire 500 now I'm working on being comfortably numb and watching Top Gear waiting to see if NASCAR races....Go Scott Speed
That's why. :P
Amazingly fast
Does anyone know what the deal with the job was?
I meant Jog
NASCAR's rain delay is silly. Am waiting for it now too. Funny, though - one of the JTV NASCAR channels had a Monaco GP replay! :D
Jenson parked at the regular parc ferme; he forgot that they usually park it in front of the royal box. ;)
Margaret on the Apprentice:
"They are very lucky they managed to sell their skeleton"
wow did anyone even predict the podcast length this week?
I guess that's understandable. I was hoping against hope that FIF1 would get a point. I would sacrifice Massa for a point for Fisi
ummm. no.
...and doing so now is cheating ;)
I'd sacrifice Bourdais. ;)
you know me too well :P
:P
Bourdais needs it!
and deserved it.
Either way, some points that were a year too late
But so does everyone else above him - and I like the Brawns and the Ferraris.
I think I'll see Bourdais in Indycar next year
Yep defo. I was convinced he and Fisi had ruined their races with that strategy.
Come on me. You have two Jordans from the same Country, and you guys never mention specifically which one you are referring to...
I keep thinking "I did what?" before figuring you are talking about Wilman...
in the comments you use two different names though.
but, you raise a good point. keep calling us on it, or we'll never improve.
Is this better?
:D I might abbreviate it to Forida Joe for expedience though
:)
only if you're happy with that though?
i had a brain fade earlier and couldn't work out why joe (in ireland) who was last seen perusing itunes, had suddenly acquired a boat.
Very good :D
Roger that
I think people should be stopped from having only their first names.... oh.
If we get another Bassano Clapper, I'm going to get worried
You have W. :D
I don't own the boat, my fire department does. I'm watching Top Gear and thought, "What a great tune during a morning run"
I'm lucky in that there aren't many other Pats here though...
:D
Watching NASCAR on Sky Sports. It's bizarre watching NASCAR with British analysis. :D
Have they dried the track yet?
That gets another unnamed laughter powered aircraft
there are a few expats though.
(c'mon that deserves a cymbal)
Are they patronising the audience again?
www.instantrimshot.com !
Sky Sports and Analysis in the same sentance
Who'd a thunk it?
why thank you.
They're trying, but the constant drizzling makes it very difficult to pull off.
:D
Not that much, actually...
:) me too, the only other lou i used to get confused with when people were talking about her was Lou Goodman :)
haha :D
Now on the wikitionary for the 'wha?' replies :D
They do on IndyCar and I think they use the same analysis guy... but I haven't seen their coverage in ages
I think they'll be racing tommorrow. Hey someone mentioned that bank holiday. Memorial Day?
We dont get decent names for holidays, its always just credit to the banks
Yup, that's the most likely scenario right now.
What is the holiday for you guys tommorrow?
Ive finished my sport catchup marathon, started watching the race again... hope im not going hyper ;)
Not a bit
BTW, where's the Wiktionary? Can't seem to find it.
Never mind. :D
that is a very good question..i've no idea.
I would be worried too if he's called Bassano Clapper, Jr. and he drives for Renault... :D .
Spring Bank Holiday
wow could kimi look any more shattered after a race!
we have a spring bank holiday?
Just another excuse to thank the banks for a holiday
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_holiday#History_of_bank_holidays
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_bank_holidays
Memorial Day for us. But I'll raise a toast for the good guys
So - if Toyota do exit F1, will they just shut down Cologne, or will they sell it ala Honda? And if they sell, who'd want to buy it? Prodrive, hopefully? :D
And what engines will Williams take on? Merc and Ferrari will get dispensation to provide engines to another team...
Is that a possiblility? My team going down
Apparently the Queen is having a birthday holiday over here in a couple of weeks (June 8)
Prodrive already have a place, ive driven past it quite a few times, I guess Schumacher GP could buy it
It's more than a possibility right now. JA and Joe S both mentioning it.
So we'd have a Brawn GP AND a Schumacher GP?
Hmmm... How about Campos Racing buying it?
we only get 8 public holidays! that's hardly fair. i like school holidays.....
Whitsun isn't it?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitsun
we have too many to mention. :D we have 1 in January, 3 in April (Catholic Holy Week), 1 in May, 1 in June, 2 in August, 2 in November, and AT LEAST 3 in December. ;)
I wish I had a holiday. I'm almost falling asleep here at work.
Political correctness has forced us to change them as most of them were Christian based (often with Pagan roots)
no-ones going to buy a race factory in cologne are they?
one of toyota's biggest problems since they started in f1 has been attracting personnel to germany.
You can't have too many public holidays
ours are still mostly Christian based. a couple are national holidays, though. :)
The Americans always have good names though...
We could have a Churchill Day, a Battle of Britain day...not to mention StGeorges Day
we have a bunch. I heard that was the downfall of Rome, too many holidays
I never thought of that but BMW and Hinwil?
well, BMW run in Hinwil, and it didn't cause too many problems. and it would be a shame if that facility went to waste...
That and the mass slaughter of non-christians
Hehe. Bassano and I sharing the same thought... ;)
Wait til we get USF1 - they're in Charlotte!
Only if they are taxable :(
Yeah but thats just another Motorsport Valley, people dont need to move homes to take part
fair point.
And Kaz will get the boot :D
We have so-so names. Some are great, though (Day of Valor, National Heroes Day, and some others named after our heroes). :D
That's NASCAR Valley - I don't think a lot of NASCAR people will be jumping ship. That said, you kinda have a point.
Good point. Poor Kobayashi, though - I think he has some legit pace.
It's a bit like Italy, there's a Saint's day almost every week
Your name, town, city, football team, etc
Of course, Trulli and Glock would be in worse shape...
Wasn't he in The Usual Suspects?
:D
D:
Nascar, Public holidays, F1 teams shutting down.
I'm way too tired to keep up with this
heheh!
:D
Is that a dyslexic smiley?
BTW, if BMW do leave (which I think is unlikely - this has been their only bad year to date), I hope Sauber comes back. :D
They might do it from the background and let Sauber take the fall until the recovery
I agree, I always like Peter Sauber. I hate the state of flux our sport is in
Will they still provide Sauber BMW engines? I hope so...
It would be very odd to see a grid powered exclusively by Ferraris, Mercs, and Cosworths...
Used to be ONLY Ferrari and Cosworths
Won't Renault keep their engine side going like before?
It's all part of a cycle. Manufacturers were around in the 50s and 80s - but left both times. Give them 10 years or so. They'll start coming back as engine suppliers, and before you know it, they'll be buying out teams again...
I hope the manufactures realise they can still get good publicity from being engine suppliers like they used to be.
Weren't Sauber traditionally with Mercedes?
oops.
True, but that was back in... the 60s? Even in the 80s we had Megatrons and Lambos....
Since the 1970s, Peter Sauber built sports cars. After using turbocharged Mercedes V8 engines in the 1980s, his team became the official factory team of Mercedes-Benz, reviving the Silver Arrow legend
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauber
ferrari wasn't it?
nothing wrong with dyslexia :D
Last time they left (1997), they didn't. The engine side got spun off as Mecachrome - and Flavio ran it after he was booted out of Benetton.
Now I'm pretty sure that's a Transformer
Are you thinking or Transformers? ;-)
Of course, that partnership ended when Mercedes ditched Sauber for McLaren. But a revival of that partnership is possible.
Snap
I heard something about Huyndai wanting into F1, has that just died off
D:
that was after mercedes left for mclaren and sauber went through that painful period with ford...
doh!
yup. credit crunch. they're focusing on the traditional build-a-Tilkedrome-GP route instead.
:D
Wasnt as painful as Mclarens period with pugs
Do it with me. Colon, then captial D
After BMW left the sport in 1986, they spun off their engine unit, which was duly named Megatron. :)
Unnamed laughter powered aircraft
Too true. :)
hahahaha. meanie!
Dark days :(
haha i would have thought it would have been the capital D that Mr C would have had problems with ;)
Sauber's been around the block a few times. I remember a Hurrying Heinz-Harlad Frenzten running around with a Merc Powered Sauber and I do remember a certain "Iceman" Mk. II contrlling a ferrari powered Sauber....
Engines in disguise
We know him too well too ;)
What was a megatron?
If anything, I really hope the exit of the manufacturers would pave the way for a Williams resurgence. I'm glad they made it to this point. Now that the big auto companies are leaving, their long-term survival looks very good. :)
Coca-Cola 600 postponed to noon ET tomorrow.
After getting special permission to get his Super Licence due to his lack of experience in the lower formulae
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megatron_(engine)
haha :D
Forgot. Switched to Indy as soon as it was finished. I guess we can't be mystic if we forget the competition
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megatron (Transformer)
Oops, link didn't work too well.
Try this one.
ok. even though i'm still hyper and have loads of energy, i have to go to bed as i have revision to do tomorrow. no idea how i'm going to sleep though, i can still hear the f1 cars in my head :D thanks for a great day guys! night! x
Would be kinda nice to see teams racing cos that's their primary business
night lou.
Renault would become Briatore GP, not sure how Toyota and BMW would end up...
Deep & slow breaths Lou
G'night
night lou. :)
Night Lou
I still think he should call his team Queens Park Racing
Team Thong
or Team Hirsute
I am now starting to wonder what engine has not been in the back of a Sauber car now.
Sauber-Ford. Sauber-Mercedes, Sauber-Ferrari (might have been rebadged as Sauber-Petronas), and Sauber-BMW.
Only ones that missing from the big guns are Honda and Renault.
Not exactly a winners tradition though ;)
But it sounds good :D
Right on the money. You named them all. :)
You know... that might actually work. :D
And it's also QPR! :)
Is there room in Shepherd's Bush for an F1 factory?
Nite, Lou!
There's a lovely patch of green that could be used...
Not big enough. :D
But where would all the winos go?
Night Lou.
There were rumours several months back the BBC want to sell Television Centre and move everything to somewhere else..
Didn't they just renovate that place?
:D not the pitch, the actual green!
They've got so many places scattered across the four winds
Now that Lou's gone, "Queen's Park Racing" could do a BAR/Honda and try to buy a winning tradition although.... :D .
Probably. They always seem to be and it remains a dump. I thought they spent a lot of money on the news bit.
Brawn nearly named the team Tyrrell. Flavio could name it Toleman.
I think that is still on the cards
What about Shaddupa Ya Race F1?
Or Parracaro F1.
http://www.justin.tv/mc_kik_2
Running the Monaco grid walk. Brundle said Geri Halliwell was Bernie's daughter then she looked straight at Bernie and said he father used to be a car dealer.
You don't think....
Bernie did give her a "don't tell everybody look"
Nah! :D
Why not Life, Zakspeed, ATS, Amon or Longitudinal Inertia ?
she has too much talent to be an ecclestone...
Or Ligier
so why doesn't she demonstrate it?
:D
Still more than Tamara though
she does.
:P
Seriously, when this season is over, the girl is going to suffer from withdrawal symptons the likes of which the world has never seen...
Camera locator?
She did... then she joined the spice girls
Dont tell me the season ends....
hehehehe.
Jenson's going to have run for Prime Minister to top this in Lou's eyes
She needs to watch the 2nd half of the season with Oxygen and a paper bag for hyperventilation
heehee
her only talent was getting from being a bit chubby to being far too thin.. I wanted to step into the video and offer cake..
that's x1 more talent than either ecclestone.
indeed
:D :D
Oxygen and a paper bag. Do they not do the opposite to each other?
Bernie has a talent for being funny on the grid walk
Alternate
People are too harsh on bernie. I probably wouldnt have ever watched f1 if it wasnt for him. Although i suspect that when i cant watch it anymore it could also be his fault
i'll rephrase that.
that's 1x more talent than either ecclestone daughter.
Paper bag to the point of suffocation then oxygen until she becomes too hyper?
He does bring it on himself
A happy medium between the two :)
And it can only go downhill from there, so let's hope he doesn't :p
Just a random thought: how does Rubens expect not to play second fiddle when he loses 12 seconds or so in one stint to his teammate who is on a similar strategy?
He gets way too much credit. Every other major sport has gained massive TV exposure over the period he has been running F1 but to listen to some pople you would think that had he not got involved we would stil only have have half an hour of highlights on a Sunday night.
XD
JA says Rubens helped Jenson dial the car in. Jenson wouldn't have won without Rubens...
I always compare pre bernie racing to boxing, great spectacle, but with no overall purpose, he gave it the purpose and made it interesting
Not really Steven. When you think about it, this is the basic technology behind 1940's Military Frogmen rebreather technology. You only use 5% of the oxygen availible in every breathe you take so 95% of the gas in teh bag is oxygen and 5% CO2 on the second breathe. Just as long as we grab teh bag from lou before she gets close to her 20th she should be okay...
Exactly, he's good, but not team leader material
I'm getting a little tired of his excuses. Classic F1 driver denial I suppose
in spain agreed. but here also?
James Allen gets too much credit too
:D
Peter Winsor on Windtunnel on SpeedTV, will keep you informed on what he says
:P
cheers joe.
Thanks, is it monnaco or USF!?
JA mentioned it in his Monaco entry here.
David Coulthard syndrome
dont know yet, interveiw hasnt started
fair enough. ta.
i'd guess both - and FIA-FOTA too.
I got really worried when (Andy?) mentioned that he had a toolbar
Mr Allen, please stick to blogging only - regular & micro are just fine
I'll spare you the Indy 500 news
Setting up is one thing but you still need to take the chequered flag 1st to be the hero
he uses the toolbar for live chats - he'll start having live quali and race blogs by Silverstone, I think.
i didn't try it. you can see he's keen to do something other than blogging though. the youtube thing failed, but maybe this might work.
the guy wants you to hear his voice. he can't help himself.
Phew! ;)
but would jenson be able to do it if bruno was his teammate rather than rubens?
:D
You are feeling very sleepy, tune into James Allen TV
Something about "woman" coming in third ? :D
He's the better driver, just saying
Am sure Rubens doesn't have the best set up every weekend, driving styles aren't the same?
that might be interesting. did you check out the chat? love to know if the solution he has will scale.
Racer, I mean
and moving to NASCAR too...
nope. didn't bother installing the toolbar. not yet, anyway.
danica?
James Allen solves SPC commenting conundrum SHOCK!
No Milka did not finish 3rd, I don't know what you heard
yup. if she moves out, IRL will be left with the dancer... ;)
the other one! :P
:D
Who is that hello?
That's great for Sarah Fisher!
I'm sorry, I don't understand
heheh. if james starts live blogging he'll need twitter levels of scalability. it'll make our issues look like a walk in the park.
Not sure I agree with JA just yet on:
Ferrari have shown today that they are back in business and they will be in front of Brawn before too long
They still need to perform at circuits that need high aero grip
agreed. :) but i'm already in 2 liveblogs as it is! and there's a 3rd one coming? :P
Hyde?
Massa will do well in Turkey. The car is good enough.
Kimi? Not so sure...
you suggested it, not me!
If Rob can baby him round Turn 8
FunFact: Monaco's national rugby team, as of January 2009, is 87th in the International Rugby Board rankings.
But other people provide racing with far better coverage. Indy coverage today was vastly better and look at all the thing CAMS have done in Australia. We keep being told that F1 is ultimate high tech. What part of the coverage suggest that? We have the same camera angles for decades. We have directors who point cameras at people in the pits when they are either standing still or trying to get out of shot rather than at cars on the track.
We get close ups of the side of drivers's heads etc. That would be like putting a camera on a tennis racket showing only the player's forearm. You would have little idea if he hit the ball or not let alone whether the shot was in or out.
The TV coverage is amateurish.
i think so ;)
Last year after the 500 and Sarah's struggles. I went to her website and there was an announcement that they were accepting donations. I sent a $100 check. A few weeks later I got a handwritten note from Sarah with a 1" square carbon fibre peice of her car. I am a fan of hers forever
Rubbish. Not gonna happen.
The point of the bag is to reduce oxygen content and the oxygen increases it
Journeyer has just comfirmed that Sarah fisher came in third at teh Indy 500! :D .
If there is news I need to know
I agree with that, F1 needs HD yesterday, interesing one of the cars was carrying HD equipment this weekend.
This weekends direction was bad, but this is the one race where it isnt his fault.
In-car cam is the Shiznit
I wish Sarah came in third. It was Danica. The Pop culture racer
The Indy coverage had a lot of faults, mainly it suffered from the old ABC/ESPN symptom of only focussing on select drivers and ignoring the rest. The rest of the races are on Versus and are better for that.
F1 has a long way to go still.
Needs investment that the powers that be won't give, alas
roger that.
Not her! There's one more! :P
Spot on. The drivers carried the car this weekend the same as Hamilton carried the McLaren until he dropped it.
It will happen. And it will end in tears.
I heard about that on Pressdog.com, brilliant initiative.
I'm sure Rubens plays a crucial role within the Brawn team, and I actually like him better than Jenson (don't let Lou read that), but the thought just struck me while watching the GP this afternoon.
I do think Ross may have favourited Jenson back in Spain, but I guess today only showed that was a justifiable decision. Losing 12 seconds is unacceptable if you don't want to play second fiddle like all those years ago.
Me too! I'm sure he was kept on over hiring Senna because he has a key role..
Rubens has great experience but just doesn't have the mean streak to be a champion
Lynn St. James is still racing? :D ...
Exactly, but he's just not as fast as Jenson. Heikki has the same problem at McLaren.
I don't think so. Everytime Indy rolls around the 'birds' that compete pay tribute to her.
He is a good test driver isn't he? Ton of experience. And a good team player. Brings the car home reasonably strongly. Brawn arguably needed that more than a newbie, even a newbie with the PR Senna would bring.
RG has done a top job with the Circuit Cup Wiki
Believe me I have been complaining about F1 TV directors for years as some people round here will tell you.
I have a solution to the problem. At the end of the season all the TV directors are put in a room. They are each given a gun and a million bullets. The last man alive directs all races from then on. The only rule is they can only shoot if they have the gun pointed at somethng vital.
With their record the only thing they will hit is the occasional rae. I reckon they would probably all drown under the spent shells or die of starvation. Then we can get someone with a clue.
I wonder if the same goes for Heidfeld
rg is a legend. no question.
Nope, try again. :P
I'm sure of it. Convinced. Have been for over a year..
How about Janet Guthrie?
the tv by me at work is playing a THAT woman marathon on the music video channel . If you never hear from me again i have jumped out the window.
Don'tcha wish your girlfriend was mute like me
where do you work and can't you turn it off?
Joe, Joe. Wherefore art tho Joe? ;)
Amy works *inside* the network: Borg, never sleeps.
Amy, I actually said, Noooo, Heikko, Noooo today
That was for Saward
Was reading the Q's for Joe wiki
[sorry for the confusion]
:D HAHA!
Someone somewhere has the remote. Failing that make some tin foil confetti and chuck it in the back
FOM do all the races bar Monaco, and untill this year Japan, so i think it is only 2 guys + monaco, they do miss stuff, but when you see the number of cameras they work off its probably one of the hardest things to direct there is. At least we dont get the partisan directors only showing the home favourite anymore
Erm, I don't even KNOW who she is. :P
To pick in on what James Allen said (sorry or changing topic again): I think Ferrari have had by far the best weekend so far, it seems they confirmed their performance increase they showed in Spain. But I doubt they'll beat Brawn for the championship title.
Somewhat elderly now, I suspect
Darn. Aitch beat me to her... I remebered Janet, but I was thinking Bettenhausen for the surname...
She is the first woman to race in the 500
Monaco isn't a true reflection though, Williams have been strong here the last few years but in few other places
Monaco is quite unique, though Ferrari are definitely improving in the right directions
I think Ferrari will be the only serious competition to Brawn, but they are already too far behind. Brawn have both titles won. Remember, you read it here first!
Button 51
Barrichello 35
Raikkonen 9
Massa 8
Brawn 86
Ferrari 17
No way can Ferrari claw that back.
Yep, I read someone else say it yesterday. Dan, I think. ;)
Ok, you read it here second then.
Red Bull could still make second best
Red Bull 42.5
Toyota 26.5
Ferrari 17
McLaren 13
Those 4 will make for a very interesting battle. Toyota will probably drop back to 5th, though.
My problem is that they spend so much time pointing at people just standing in the pits or in the crowd. They don't seem to get that they are covering a sport. You would never get a tennis or football director showing a match without following the ball but these guys don't seem to understand that you need to see where the car is on the track and where any opposition is. Half them think they are Spielberg and want to do atmospheric shots which tell you nothing. Too many close ups that don't tell you anything.
You have never heard of Janet Guthrie. You need to study more history
non-F1 history? Yep, I need to study more of it. :D
Haha, very true
Please accept my sincerest apologies, wise sage. :D
I think Ferrari will drop back again and Red Bull will be the second team
journeyer... wax on, wax off.
Watching BBC replay.
Piquet said he'd have scored had Buemi not taken him out. Given that Bourdais and Fisi were battling for 8th, I'd agree.
:D
LD
HAHA!
Ferrari are just a better team, with much more experience. You just have to look at what Mclaren did with a very bad car in the first 4 races. Ferrari will do the best of the rest from now on
But it was a law of nature, The Piquet Magnet did it
Brawn are quite similar to williams in 92'... could be the start of a good few years, followed by a poor few
But Ferrari have been making a lot more mistakes than Red Bull have. That will come back to bite them...
Williams did well from 92-97. Their poor years weren't to come for another 6 years... :D
The slow decline back to the 80's post Brawn & Schu
Brawn 2009 is more like Williams 1980, I think. :)
I hope you're wrong, but I fear you're right...
I think their drivers carried the car this weekend. On every other track its handling has been evil. The back end just seems to step out all over the place under load. Turn 8 at Turkey with that car will be terrifying.
Unfortunatly my knowledge only begins in 92'
Massa won't like that... Podium or DNF for him, then?
LOL. No Jones and Reutemann tho
Awww... try watching races from the 80s when you have time. :)
That may be a very good call
They don't seem to have come to terms with the downforce loss of the rear wing and diffuser regs.
Thank goodness, too. :)
#You spin me round, round baby, right round - like a record...#
:D :)
yes. I meant to say no Jones and Reutemann fighting each other!
Right round, round, round... :D I prefer the original over the Flo Rida version. :)
Going to call it a night, see you tomorrow afternoon/evening.
Planning a nice round of golf, first time out in 3 weeks due to this and that. Let's hope we aren't too rusty and it isn't raining...
Yup! Thought you meant that. Too true. :)
Night Pat. :)
Or the Sugababes
I doubt the car will have the performance to get on the podium. A lot of the corners are understeer generators which is why Massa has owned the place over the last few years. I expect him to be quicker than Kimi there but I think that both of them are in for a very hard weekend,
G'night Pat, bring your umbrella though, just in case
Night Pat,
Down to earth Button and an unhappy South American so not that different
I think what F1 needs right now is a Swede with a surname of Fries. Just so that on the All-time Fantasy F1 Game, we can have the Ulitmate F1 team of "Berger and Fries" :D .
Night Pat
But you know Massa will try - he's very good in Turkey, and he'll push that car over and beyond the edge.
Always keep it handy!
Good night Pat
5 pints of Unnamed laughter powered aircraft
:D
Right, will focus on the Monaco replay then. Wanna hear the BBC commentary in full - feed was iffy for me last night. Later, everyone. :)
Bye Journeyer
See ya Journeyer
Peter Winsor on SpeedTV said:As a future team principal wants Ferrari in F1. Other than that he stated that the fight between Ferrari and the FIA is the first time the two have butted heads
L8R, Journeyer
Yep defo. I was convinced he and Fisi had ruined their races with that strategy. {Comment #65}
That strategy used to be popular in the low-qualifying era. With both of them qualifying in the second half of the grid and yet confident of holding back some of those behind them in the early phases of the race, stuffing their cars full of fuel made sense.
I think we may have learned the fuel tank capacities of the STR and FIF1, though.
Quite like this driver analysis

What is the holiday for you guys tommorrow? {}
Spring Bank Holiday. Usually shortened to "bank holiday".
That's it! I've spent since 10pm trying to catch up with the F1 blogosphere and managed:
- update the predictions competition for the forum I admin
- get through the large amount of Twitter traffic
- do about a third of the catching up for Sidepodcast.
I am so glad today is a bank holiday, but I need to go to bed or I'll still be here when Mum wakes up...
night alia.
Nee Whitsun
Good night.
An increasingly difficult task :D
Good night
I shouldn't be laughing a the fact RB said "I struggled with a grainy rear"...
That was a mean trick on Jenson's part to glue 60 grade sandpaper on RB's seat.... :P
:D
ahh half days. Always so good at the time, always regret them on pay day.
Wouldn't the 2nd half be a better bet than the 1st?
I wish I could do that!
Time for bed. See you all in a few hours.
Don't forget to re-generate Amy. This place could get danegerous if the BORG get grumpy.
night steven.
With everyone here sleeping I might do the same.
Im joining the sleeping club too, big plans for tomorrow...
Night *yawn*
night amy and nick.
Looks like the party's dying around here faster than Kubica's Championship hopes. Time for me to split too.
Night all.
see ya jordan...
(2008 spc-land fantasy racers champions, not to be confused with jordan willman ;))
Wilman, me, not Willman. Nite.
i learn. very slowly mind you, but i learn ;)
Morning all,
No bank holiday for me as we had ours on Thursday - I also took Friday off.
I just realised how much racing I watched last weekend - The F1, Indy 500, Nurburgring and two films about racing! Oh, and we had a meeting to plan Le Mans.
And I haven't even watched the GP2 yet!
Indy Update on the most injured driver yesterday:
"Vitor Meira..was admitted to Methodist Hospital with fractures of the first and second lumbar, yet still has full use of his arms and legs. He is not expected to have surgery.
yeah- i watched less but everything I had planned, well, never quite happened. and i blame you all. but especially Steven, and Lou's rabbit.
That's still bad though. Good to see the delay was just to make sure they extracted him properly so no further damage was done. Poor lad - he never has had any good luck :(
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75577
Right... so for those who didn't believe me earlier in the year, sadly my WTCC prediction is starting to come true. SEAT are allowed to be too dominant with the Turbo Diesel - BMW are unhappy with that and want to pull out if things don't change (they won't go diesel). GM will probably pull out when they go bankrupt too so there won't be much of a WTCC left!
Who needs manufacturers, eh?
JA said that a team principal told him that they haven't made up yet with the FIA, but they're "falling in love all over again". JA's fault - he brought the metaphor up. :D
While you may be right, this could also be part of a negotiated process. I wouldn't be surprised if Max got a heads-up about this over the weekend, and I wouldn't be surprised if Max has already given the teams a heads-up as to what his reply would be.
WRC only has Ford and Citroen left. If either leave, they're in real trouble.
MotoGP is in better shape in this regard. Only Kawasaki have left (and even then they still have 1 privateer bike), and they still have Yamaha (4 bikes) Honda (4 bikes), Ducati (5 bikes), and Suzuki (2 bikes).
WRC is rubbish this year because of that. The IRC is much more interesting!
True, and the racing has been good. But in truth, you are nowhere if you are not on a factory bike...
But we don't see the IRC here. And IRC has no Sebastien Loeb. :D
Colin Edwards and Marco Melandri would beg to disagree with you. As would Mika Kallio to a lesser extent. :D
Yeah it's hard to see (but there are ways...) and no Loeb winning all the time is a plus point!
But none of those have won lately have they?
Loeb lost last weekend. ;)
Melandri was 2nd at Le Mans. And it's not the bike, it's the rider. The 2nd Yamaha, 2nd Ducati, or 2nd Honda all haven't won either.
First time in a bajillion years though!
Disagree. Lorenzo has won on the second Yamaha and only Nicky Hayden could be blamed on ther rider (the Kimi of MotoGP?). It is very rare these days for a non-factory bike to get anywhere near a win because the bikes are too high tech.
Le Mans was a crazy race because it was wet/dry. Melandri did race well but that was a lot like Barrichello in Britain last year - driver in a bad car gets presented with a good opportunity and uses skill to take advantage of it.
:D
Oh yeah, forgot about Lorenzo there. :D But Hayden's woes isn't down to the rider - just ask Gibernau, Caperossi, or even Melandri.
Speaking of which,
He was 6th in a dry Motegi prior to Le Mans - something that he shouldn't have had any business doing, especially with his bike that's not getting too much development.
Yeah I was hoping that was the reason - minimise movement until you can stick on all the safety stuff. I wonder how easy it was to extract him out - I guess they've tested all that stuff, and I hope it all worked the way it was supposed to. A sad simple truth - injuries and death happen in motorsport and we have to do what we can to prevent them - even if that takes the form of "run off areas" where drivers can resume after a small delay. I hate the run offs - but I understand why they are there for safety (and marketing reasons probably too)
But Hayden post-championship was dreadful at Honda too? You are right about Ducati though - it seems they make a great bike for Stoner who rides the bike very differently from everyone else!
6th is not really a result from an ex-factory bike.
anyone knows what happened to the talk with mr Saward this weekend ?
Apologeticos ... problemos technicos!
That may explain why Stoner never won a title in 125 or 250, yet is doing oh-so-well here in MotoGP - the bike is custom-made for him, and it has LOTS of power.
?Que habla Espanol, Senor Gavin?
Okay, maybe not custom-made, but it suits him a lot more than any of his previous bikes.
but kawasaki were never this good, and this bike isn't getting any development. surely that deserves some credit?
In theory that should suit Hayden as he is more used to powerful bikes (unlike the Euros who grew up on 125's and 250's). Apparently that's why he is struggling...
No unfortunately - I was thinking of a sketch off a programme called 'The Fast Show' where they spoof European TV :D
Yep. Melandri rode brilliantly in awful conditions. It's got to be him that's doing it, surely? There's no way the bike has got better without development, right?
If it's like the F1 cockpit then all they have to do is undo some clips and lift him out with the seat attached (apparently)...
Exactly what I mean - just because you're NOT on a factory bike doesn't automatically mean you're nowhere.
You MUST show me a video of this. :D I'll try to look for some too. :D
extremely sleepy me here, it is very hard to watch Indy500 live in Asia... I did ny best, 120 laps, but 3:30am I gave up
Only the end is worth watching anyway :(
Touché - but it is still very difficult and very rare to see a customer bike on the podium.
I'll look later for you - but try searching for "The Fast Show Channel 9"
that was probably 5am :-) no way I could get that far :-)
I barely saw any of it. :( Oh well.
Found it. Hilarious! :D
moooorning all, am listening to the parade lap then debrief! woot.
how are we all?
Morning all too! :)
I like this Force India tweet:
on our way home from Monaco today. trucks travel directly from Monaco to turkey, the furthest point in Europe they will go this year
They must be taking lessons on Mr C about capital letters.
Oh, and hi as well.
Morning all, Hope you enjoyd your lie-in you lucky b'stards!
Good Morning all.
Is Kathi about? .. I'm feeling bad that you may think I'm having a go about Fantasy Racers. Honestly I'm not unhappy and I think you should keep your team, go girls :)
what? no more ships to take the trucks there?
I don't have a lie-in... :(
Huh? Not sure what you're talking about, Jackie.
Oh I made a comment on PF about being well and truly trounced this week in Fantasy Racers. I suggested that 9 teams may be a bit much of an advantage and the rules may need another tweek
Ironically Kathi has become the Schumacher of FR ... miles ahead of all of us and needing a tweak in the rules to give us any chance of catching up!
So she feels bad about being in the lead which is a shame as it's spoiling her enjoyment as well
I've just seen another ridiculous TV show advertised: "I'm Running Sainsbury's"
(Sainsbury's is a supermarket chain in the UK for those outside the country)
Well that's a shame, but seeing as she is clearly putting more effort into it than us, she deserves to be winning!
Aww, not another big manufacturer...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75577
Listen to this weeks midweek motorsport podcast (series 4 ep 19) , it has a really good conversation about WTCC!!!
That's what I tried to say but perhaps not so eloquently
I don't like winning just because the rest couldn't be bothered. I'm not giving up FR completely I have 4 other teams which have far less cash available since I started them after Melbourne and didn't treat them very well. This way I can enjoy it again and you can try to beat demigods and Al and sandbaggers.
It's not that we can't be bothered - we just don't have the same 'passion' for it as you ;)
Don't stop what you are doing Kathi - if you did and then lost because of it then it wouldn't be proper - that's not the way to win.
Besides, it's all supposed to be fun and I certainly am enjoying it so far - and I know a lot of others are too.
Please don't give up couchpotato.
I feel I want to crawl into a hole and hide for the next couple of weeks; thats the thing about the internet when you can't see the person you are speaking to comments can be taken out of context .. maybe I need a break. .. a long one.
Says the man with the statistics.
But I'm not enjoying it. I don't want to win because I have the most money but because I made the right choices. I can do that with my other teams.
Hehehe.
Don't be silly. You're not the reason for this. I've sent you a message on skype
So I posted my thoughts... what about you Scott?
Personally as long as there are teams like 888 and RML there will always be some sort of Touring Car series - The BTCC this year hasn't suffered from there only being one 'manufacturer'.
The Danish Touring Car series runs loads of good cars without manufacturer support so it could work... As long as there is good racing!
BMW are considering their future in motorsports in general, it seems. If I were to guess, I think their quit threat in WTCC is a lot more serious, as things there aren't as organized, so it'd be harder to fix.
That said, Dr. Mario is behind both quit threats (and the F1 one isn't even an explicit threat). I wonder what Max thinks of him... ;)
Don't be too hard on yourself, Jackie. I know you didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. It was an honest suggestion, and nothing personal. :)
LOL cheers. But the silly thing is that I haven't really made any team changes because when I look at my team, I can't see how by selling my two worst drivers that I would gain more points by buying a better one. This race was the first where 3 drivers scored less points than their equivalent cash value would have.
Sure, I'm always one for good racing. It's just getting annoying that all the big manufacturers in touring cars started in the BTCC, then pulled out and then took part in the WTCC and now it looks like they're leaving. Can we just have some stability in this sport, people? Is it too much to ask for? Obviously, at the rate manufacturers are pulling out, it is.
Ahh the Mid-90's - Ten Manufactuers! TBH, the racing was no better than now though...
Hey - it seems BMW have the technical veto in WTCC. :D
Read: DTM.
TBH, I think you have the most money now because you made the right choices. That said, you're not making too many other decisions now...
They didn't enter in 2000 when it restarted because the rules wouldn't go their way (That's why they built the M3 GTR). DTM is really boring ATM and needs a serious revamp - the cars are too aero and too fragile and there ain't no passing!
So how would you do the DTM?
Hmm good question. Less Aero and V8 engines? Both Audi and Merc do them and BMW too? Or maybe take a standard 2L block and add a turbo kit. I think the WTCC and BTCC have a good base to build on - the problem (as with any split series) is the equivalency formula...
I wouldn't dumb it down as much as the Aussies mind - that's too far!
FakeHamilton makes a good point, without the gearbox change, he'd have stood a much greater chance of getting into the points,
I guess they figured it was worth the swap. They were hoping Lewis would make mincemeat of the Toyotas and BMWs, which he wasn't able to do because of horrific understeer.
Also, when did Kubica disappear?! Only found out he retired because i just listened to hte debrief!!
Right now, is there ANY 4-wheel series that has lots of passing? Heck, even NASCAR has less passing now...
He pitted on Lap 28 - had a brakes problem. It was a merciful end for Bobby, I think - his car was nowhere near the pace at the front.
One of my biggest rivals had him in his team. He scored 32 points. Kubica was the third to retire which means he gets 3 points for position so he should have retired after lap 29. I'm not obsessed - really!
OK. slightly off
You could still be right. Checking Wikipedia, they may have meant Bobby K completed 28 laps. So he would've pitted ON Lap 29.
Morning guys.
I doubt I was the only one but I find it pretty cool Suzi perry dent me a direct message on Twitter... awesome. :)
A DM is a DM, no matter how many of them there are. :P
What did it say?
I just sent her one of those @ messages saying it was a nice surprise to see her on the F1 forum, and the DM just said 'thanks! xx', so that was nice of her to reply.
aw thats nice
At least she did it straight away, unlike a certain LeeMck...
Now the next one has to say "You haven't heard of Sidepodcast by any chance, have you?" ;)
ooh! :D
is it wrong that I want to download the Finnish race coverage?
And we thought Kathi's FR obsession was bad...
That is cool and so is she :)
You could have had it in Danish if you had asked earlier ;)
Not to mention she's pretty hot ;)
Praise the lord for The Gadget Show! :D
Heikki isn't from Denmark. :D
Jake says cutting off the press conference annoys him as much as everyone else.
Has anyone seen Jakes blog for Monaco?
again I find his entries very enjoyabe, just recapping the weekend and whatnot and talking about it. Plus he apologises for the quick ending of the F1 despite it not being his fault. His anecdote about Murray is very cute :P
Aaand me and christine post it at nearly the same time..!
I'm going to download the Silverstone LMS coverage to listen to (commentary for the whole race...)
I'm THAT bored
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75626
Williams submits F1 entry for 2010 - but insists it isn't breaking away from FOTA.
Currying Favour from Max then?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75626
Williams submit entry
There is probably more Heikki in the BBC coverage than in the Finnish.
I think we all expected it from them, they're not going to be against such caps because it keeps their team going
I shake my fist at Finland!
Snap!
1 down, 9 to go...
I thought we'd had enough of that with Lukeh...
*shakes fist at Lukeh for enducing fist shaking*
I think I shall just have to compliment BBC's use of music for this weekend on Jake's blog. ;)
Don't include the fact that you exploded twice as a result ;)
hehe we thought of you!
you shall need to track down this Sunil person and hug them.
Not suprising, but maybe Williams know something we don't.
Hehe, just looking on Autosport, it's thunderstorming in Monaco today. And to think, yesterday's weather was perfect!
oh my Nadal's Fren Open outfit is horrible
Damn, that would have made for a wild race :(
lukeh - I'm loving the green day album :) need a bit of punk in my life.
What's the new Green Day album called?
hehe :) i can't wait to see the press releases for the backdowns...
Never mind, found it on Spotify, :)
21st century breakdown.
yay! :)
I thought you'd approve. took me a few days to get around to it. Now if only my ipod was still working, I'd load it up with green day for the month...but instead i'll have to make a CD of mp3s for my portable Cd player....aah technology - at least it plays mp3 so I can have a whole 700 Mb. do i live on the edge or what?
here is Peter Windsor's interview with Rubens
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/rubens-wmv
This really makes me think that FOTA's letter to Max may just be a PR ploy, but the deal is already more or less done behind closed doors.
But if that isn't the case, I'm disappointed Williams decided to file their entry now. Why break FOTA's unity? At the very least, they could've submitted on Friday. Assuming that there is no deal of any sort yet, this weakens FOTA's hand against Max.
Rather than break, 'endanger' would be a better word.
partying like it's 1999, scott? ;)
Hmm not sure - it was proposed that they wouldn't risk leaving F1 because they are one of the few teams that exists solely to race in F1.
It is odd, but if you look at all the press about this issue, Williams have never been a strong advocate of FOTA. Perhaps Bernie has given them a big payout?
oooh.. windows 7 actually seems usable...
Wow... you're a brave man!
It's very good actually. Found it at times to be faster than XP and 2000.
Afternoon everyone btw.
Cool. Might upgrade when the time comes...
Yep yep yep agreed. everything actually works a lot faster than Vista, and it doesn't seem to want to do anything ridiculous yet (although I did have to turn off that god awful UAC again)
Games? Programs? Drivers? How does it go?
I'm going to be dual booting it for a while on my main machine *will have to install a new HDD for it* then going over to it entirely - everywhere in the flat.
Just testing. Nothing to see here.
You're not here?
Didn't have to install any drivers for my laptop - picked everything up correctly.
Games - around the same speed as XP
Programs - if it works in XP or Vista it should work in Win7
If you go for the higher level ones - you even get a copy of Virtual PC with Windows XP configured with it. So if there is anything that misbehaves then you can run it through emulation. I wouldn't bother though.
What about... Grand Prix Legends? :D
No, I am here. But not interesting :)
Doesn't run on 64bit OS's - Which is what I run on my laptop.
Sorry does that mean Vista as well? Oh dear - I'm sure they'll find a way to patch it.
Doesn't run on XP64, Vista x64 or Win7 x64
What does that mean in English? I have it running on XP pro...?
Woah.
Paint has had a major upgrade.
:)
XP Pro is 32bit.
XP 64 is 64 bit.
Different OS's - if you run 32bit you are limited to 4gb of ram in total - including page file and graphics memory.
64bit is limited to 8tb of ram iirc.
So when we get Windows 7 it will be 64 bit? Also, will the XP emulator be 64 bit as well?
There will be 2 versions
32bit with the 4gb limit and 64 bit with the 8tb limit.
As for the emulated version of Xp - I'd assume this to be 32bit for maximum compatibility.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/paint-png
Wayyyyy too many options on paint for my mind to comprehend
Although it finally knows what a png file is which pleases me...
Right ... so there is hope then ;)
I need a new Gaming PC as my rig broke twice on saturday. I don't know whether to just get one now and XP it or try and hold out for a Win7 Machine...
Go XP. It's tried and tested and any errors should be easily fixable. Win7's really unknown territory.
I'm holding out for a Windows 7 - better long-term option.
Paint has the Office Ribbon now?!?
Has anybody heard anything from Ollie?
It's still basically a beta so it's definitely best to stick with XP and Vista (but Vista only is you REALLY can't get XP, which is far better)
However, concerning Windows 7 so far so good. No drivers annoyances, faster and more efficient than Vista, and it seems to do the job. Which is very good for the current state thinking back to how Vista was when it was a release candidate...
7 is basically a more stable Vista. Since most future games will be developed for 7 anyway, I'd go for 7 - it'll save you money.
Yup.
If you wait you will get a faster machine for the money - but thats always true. Get a spec you like in your mind - then hunt around for the best price for that spec. If it's acceptable - buy it. If not wait a month and do the same thing again.
I build all my own personal rigs rather than buy off the shelf anyway. That way I can actually get what I want. Only off the shelf machines I have are servers - and then they are normally upgraded significantly.
My Media server started out in live as a £99 dell machine. :D It's now got 8tb of HDD space and lives in a 8U server enclosure rather than a desktop box.
VERY good question. He's been missing for a week, and BlogF1 has no updates whatsoever. :(
he left a comment yesterday saying he went surfing, i think.
The Tech Guru has spoken. :D
But he really is right. ;)
he left the comment here? cool. :D i guess he needs to get away from F1 for a while?
on his own blog:
"I had a looong week at work that ultimately resulted in something not so good (don’t worry, all is fine, but it’s still… annoying, shall we say), so I’ve scarpered off to relax on a board in an unspecified ocean."
ah OK, was worried.
I have just learnt that Jenson has narrow hips. Good times.
Thanks ... good advice. I have a few websites with one of those choose your own internals which is the next best thing to building it yourself - something I wish I could do :(
I've also learned that DC apparently wants 50 million euros for a hotel he owns 70% stake in in Monaco.
So both are good options then. Seeing as I have an XP disc I might start with XP and then upgrade when 7 becomes more stable...
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/05/25/williams-puts-in-entry/
Joe's short comment on Williams' entry into 2010...
Wha?
i'm watching the documentary they made on our commentator driving the Honda last year. They did his seat fitting and they thought he was like Jenson so tried his seat first, but he couldn't get his hips in. Turns out Jensons hips are very narrow so they went with Rubens' seat instead. Jenson just popped up to say 'hes not a normal commentator'. He's right about that, Cameron is far more annoying.
If anyone can pull it off, it'll be Sir Frank himself. Even Max and Bernie have the utmost respect for him, so I think most people will be more forgiving on them than if it were another team.
That said, I still think they should've been more helpful to FOTA by at least waiting until Friday.
I don't think that's what Jenson meant. ;)
Jenson is laughing at him. I like him more now.
Didn't you like him before?
No, I did. But theres always room for improvement. I'd even manage to like Heikki more if he laughed at our commentators:D
Thinking back to when Jenson shouted "Monaco baby, yeah!" over the radio yesterday - it's not the first time he's said something like that. Imola 2002 he came 5th for Renault and the radio went:
Flavio: "Well done Jenson, well done"
Jenson: "Cheers boys, great job. Yeah baby!"
He also did that for a mic test in 2000 when he was at Williams. He was making an appearance somewhere and to test the mic he shouted "Yeah baby!"
Wait...Jenson's the F1 equivalent of Austin Powers! Now where's Lukeh with that Photoshop of his... ;)
Hahaha! I like this new all-conquering Jenson (compared to the Jenson we had in 2000-2001). Mature yet laid-back. :D
Yeah so do I - I know this season may be considered boring but I am enjoying all of it. I didn't even care for Jenson before the season started but now... I think he's brilliant and all of this is well deserved...
Lou is gonna hate the picture I've used for this... I blame you Scott! :P
Nearly done ;)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/yeahbaby-jpg
Hehehe.
Monaby... oh dear. Near to correct that...
Sweet lord that is funny!
LMFAO! Genius! :D
Thats just a little bit freaky
Toyota deny they plan to leave in 2010.
I suspect that HE has a clear wish to stay in F1 for 2010. But does Tokyo have the same wish to stay?
BTW, that's from Autosport.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75624
Have put the correct spelling of monaco on drop.io now, not sure how on earth that got past me :D
Don't know why, but I think Jenson would be a really good host for the Sunday Night Project on Channel 4 :D
I'm sorry, but this penalty is somewhat ridiculous.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75578
You know what Lukeh, you should put these Photoshopped pics up on your blog. ;)
2008 F1 stewards moved to WRC? That's just to make sure the championship stays close (as he's the only one worthy of winning it).
Rallying has become a sad joke :(
I wish it could go back to its glory days i.e. Group A and that. :(
The IRC is close to how it was (but non-turbo). Time for me to dig out that DVD of 1970's called something like "The Golden Era of Rallying" ;)
While you do that, I'll have a search for my "Too Fast to Race" DVDs. Ah Group B, now they were proper rally cars. Mad, but iconic nonetheless. :D
Yay! Then we can make a toast to proper rally cars!
Found them! Too Fast to Race and Still Too Fast to Race :D
yeah- i watched less but everything I had planned, well, never quite happened. and i blame you all. but especially Steven, and Lou’s rabbit. {Comment #426}
Most of what I'd planned didn't happen either... ..but I can blame the worst-designed (and delapidated) tent ever for that!
hey all. Lukeh what have you done to Jenson! :P although it's kinda funny...
I am glad Legard and Brundle don't spend 15 minutes talking about drivers pregnant wives, and how they must cope watching the race, and how it affects the drivers to think of their wives, and whether the drivers would like the babies to be born in the cities where they win, and what they might call their children.
This is happening in the tennis. They won't stop talking about it!
heya lou
scott put me up to it! *runs*
:P
I like this Force India tweet:
on our way home from Monaco today. trucks travel directly from Monaco to turkey, the furthest point in Europe they will go this year
They must be taking lessons on Mr C about capital letters. {Comment #455}
Well... ...who needs capital letters when your team has just scored its best individual race result since Melbourne on the back of its best individual qualifying result since Monza last year?
i wish it wasn't so sunny and lovely outside... it would make revision much easier...
Morning all...
Im puzzled by what sort of hotel puts dried spaghetti in the mini-bar?
Off-topic: apparently it's both Towel Day (to celebrate Douglas Adams) and Star Wars Day (to celebrate ...erm... Star Wars).
Isn't Star Wars day May the 4th?
Im puzzled by what sort of hotel puts dried spaghetti in the mini-bar? {Comment #614}
:D One that thinks putting drinks in there is old hat?
:o
it is towel day! awesome.
Isn’t Star Wars day May the 4th? {Comment #616}
Someone forgot to tell Los Angeles City Council. This is supposed to coincide with the first screening of the original Star Wars Episode IV.
May 4th is also a Star Wars day.
Bizarrely the only way to cook it appears to be putting it in a kettle!
FakeHamilton makes a good point, without the gearbox change, he’d have stood a much greater chance of getting into the points, {Comment #485}
He would also have stood a better chance of getting into the points if he'd stuffed the thing with fuel like Bourdais and Fisichella. Though the gearbox change didn't help either.
Ah yes, Group B, where Jean Todt first came to prominence. :D
Funnily enough, I'm watching the Peugeot part of the TFTR DVD :D
Right, getting ready for Try #2 to watch the 600 in 80-ish minutes.
finding a tennis stream is harder than finding an F1 stream, because even if you find a French Open one, with 21 games on at the same time its not guaranteed to be the one you want :(
good point, Amy. :(
the one I was watching got pulled and the only replacement I've found is about 20 minutes delayed. I might just go to bed, Roger would have to be blindfolded to lose this one anyway :D
and he's up 2-0. time to regenerate. ;)
Live commenting from the garden.
Any musical suggestions. I'm looking for something nice and sunshiny.
I guess this is the musical equivelent of the cocktail thing.
Garden... Kinda reminds me of "Seven Days in Sunny June", by Jamiroquai. Even if it isn't quite June yet. :D
savage garden?
garden. hehehe. :D but he wants an upbeat song by them. hmmm...
Can hear an ice cream truck in the distance. It's playing popeye the sailor man instead of greensleves.
I don't think it's too savage. Unkempt garden is more like it ;)
sigur ros are always lovely to listen to :)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-79
i was going to suggest bruce springsteen and secret garden.
it's not so secret no more though :(
What album is that off? I might have it.
greatest hits.
Seems to be not yet ripped. So I think I'm going to have to go sigor Ross. I don't seem to have that Jameriquoi track either.
I had been thinking that I would be able to buy on iTunes but it seems you can't while remoting to the apple tv
I hope you weren't one of those asking why we were watching the Indy 500vif you're watching NASCRAP...
I wanted to watch both! Fell asleep just after the 500 started, though...
Never go wrong with a bit of Spinal Tap. nice? sunshiny? no, but a good laugh in the afternoon. always nice to see Principal Skinner with a moustache....
How about '5 years time' by noah and the whale?
Might I suggest some Lighthouse Family? :)
Agreed. :D
I wish I didn't watch that, I feel necessary to watch the film now. Such a classic.
hehe...Stonehenge is great...
Their "Greatest Hits" album, which I have, has a nice little selection of happy, relaxing tunes. Ocean Drive and Run are two I can suggest straight away :P
Good suggestion and I have it ripped. Pleased to find I do own everything this far suggested :)
You have Lighthouse Family? Good man! :D
Hmmm... I should get around to buying that. :D
I managed to get it in a 2 for £10 sale at HMV. One of the best music purchases I ever made, me thinks :D
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h__4_6?url=search-alias=popular&field-keywords=lighthouse+family+greatest+hits&sprefix=LIGHTH
So we should switch to obscure references then?
Actually I hadn't got to that one yet. I'm not sure I do. I have Edison Lighthouse...
Please do :)
Aww, damn. You're missing out, bud! :P
Am yet to see that - but I know all the jokes!
I have a couple of Edison's lights. Just joining in - not a fan of The Family. we have a lot of family business here in Italy, if you know what I mean...
I don't. :D
I have a dodgy VHS copy that I left in my "homeland. I really should get me a better copy. Without 10 minutes of silence like the video had.
Artist: Poor Rich Ones. They are a Norwegian band I have an album of. Which I'll have to play today now I've mentioned it
You must see it. Nothing compares.
Some Moloko has just come on.
Now I'm confused...
Ah you must see it, it's rockumentary comedy at it's best!
Evenin' all.
"...But this amp goes to 11."
BTW, Mr C, will you be able to pull off an Aside today? :D
Evenin' Mr W.
They still haven't found him from down the back of the sofa?
Hello Mr Other W.
Still the afternoon, right? :-/
Ah nuts, ad on C4. Big Bro music and The Annoying Man. "10 days to go". I'm going to be sucked in again aren't I.
Just about.
Urgh...
Uh oh. :/
Wow, most of the comments in this thread are from that convo last night!
Lee Mack does a great impression of him :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCA5z3KJClY
FakePiquet: "Hey, @fakeflav there is a printing error on my contract, it says here that it ends in July, that can't be right."
:D
Ahhh, the difference between the guys and the girls. If I held the position of the Michael Schumacher of FR, I would be suggesting that it is up to the other teams to catch up and rub it in by pointing out that Minardi of FR budget is less than my salary. And at the same time demanding that my rear gunner drives so slowly that I have no problem lapping the field....
I only had a dream result in Montreal last year, in that all my picks where in the top 7 or 8 and the most popular picks took themselves out due to a red-spectrum colour blindness problem of a McLaren driver.
it would be a lot worse if someone from the autosport league had figured out the loophole first ;)
Too true. :D
One thing I hate about NASCAR: too much product placement. At least F1 keeps it tasteful. NASCAR goes over the top too often...
Try the Auto Shop class at any American High School.... :D .
nah then we'd just complain like Ferrari against Brawn.
minor change to doohickey, if you refresh. you can now listen to podcasts in the lightboxy-active-thread-popup-window thing.
at the moment, it's still not possible to vote on a poll that way, neither is long content scrollable. fixes for both of those things in the pipeline.
Good stuff mr c, appreciate it as always :)
Ooooh... me likey... :D That said, I'd still listen to the podcast in a separate window - I wouldn't be able to chat while listening... would I?
Oooh, nice one. Thanks as always :)
Great additions. From developer to another, how long is your pipeline (I have hundred of things on my list) and how to you keep track of what you've done already etc - simple spreadsheet?
nope. it's of limited use, just means the posts make more sense when you read them.
There seem to be a lot of developers on here... :D
I nag him.
Ahhh. Cool. Thanks! :)
Now THAT'S change management! :D
the pipeline stretches farther than the eye can see ;)
when my bosses do that, i get annoyed and change jobs. so be careful :)
Glad to know I'm not the only one...one change brings four more "to-do"s..
She's not his boss, she's his wife. ;)
No one else would put up with his demands for nachos.
GPL works in Windows Xp quite nicely, if you have enough VRAM to have a complete line up at the old Nurbergring...
Currently running the Honda as "Yenson Zipper"... :D .
maybe i should ask for nachos in my contract discussions this week. hmmm. nice ideas.
The Shins
aar yeah ;)
Arghh.... noo.........
Why couldn't they have waited a few days? Oh yes, they are expecting to capitalise from the whole 'oh gord there's nothing but election coverage on everywhere!' factor aren't they ....
Music Mr AA - how about something from Air, Eve and the Garden, or the Grimethorpe Colliery Band?? (Although Fat and Frantic - Electric Sunbathing in particular :-) - might do you for 'summer' )
Back to try and finally watch yesterdays GP now....
I've spent the last 4-ish hours listening to Silverstone LMS race RadioLeMans commentry....
John Hindhaugh (Hind-hoff)'s voice is strangely soothing.....
anywho, how are we all today?
600 just got started. Lap 6 - first caution, due to... 'a few drops [of rain]'.
Great. :|
Actually I think I'm both :)
WET TYRES MAN!!! WETS!!! WETS I TELL YOU!! WITH GROVES IN THEM!!!
man it annoys me. boo.
rant over
:D
Don't forget wipers. :D
EEK! Digger commercial! EEK!
Heheh! :D
beach boys! dedicated to FOTA and FIA
You know its gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together
But I love the Aflac Duck... Af-lac! :D
ummm. what's the 600?
Coca-Cola 600. NASCAR's longest race.
Your name is on the 'door' (front page), so you could be right..
Random oval thought: Say Danica DID move to NASCAR and the IndyCar series never recovered - and it closed.
What do you think of the Indy 500 becoming a full-fledged F1 race? Yes, it's unlikely, but does the thought of it make you interested?
Nascar dosen't do short races though do they?
As my new hero Mr Hind-hoff says "it's not motorsport, it's 'entertainment' "
Short tracks, yes. Short races, no.
Said that about NASCAR? I'd agree.
Yup. It bores me to tears, apart from the crashes
Are you seriously trying to suggest the fate of the IndyCar Series rests on what Danica does???
Start of Lap 17 - car hits the wall. some debris.
Caution. Riiight. They'll be testing people's patience today, then...
http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?day=1&month=11&year=2009&hour=1&min=00&sec=00&p0=0
3824 hours till the off season starts!
thanks. don't follow NASCAR. but when i move to the US who knows...
woo-hoo! me loves the off-season.
Yes and No. The Indy 500 will survive, whatever happens. The Series? Not so sure. It suffers from chronic mismanagement (worse than F1), and we won't see a 2nd breakaway here.
NOTE: That's why I said this scenario is UNlikely. But I am floating the idea of the Indy 500 as an F1 race.
Not so long ago a one-hour highlights package was watchable, but with this silly Car of Tomorrow the racing has been ruined :(
I'll pay you to never watch a NASCAR race.
riiight...
:) bidding starts at $1, the same price you can buy an F1 team for.
I'd love to see one (I emphasize it, Bernie, only ONE) F1 oval race. Taking into account the history, Indy 500 would be the natural choice. But obviously it will go against the cost-cutting measures unless you force the teams to use the same car there than everywhere else...
why would you want to count down until the off season starts :(
because you get more time of a weekend?
ahah, so then we can procrastinate over how good brawn will be!
i found a link to that site in my favourites lol
I'd agree - more than zero, but less than two. :D
did you see the comment someone made earlier about how you'd be in the offseason? not sure who or what time that came up...
i haven't read back through the comments yet, i'll do so now.
If they can get as far as the new car they'll be fine - they just need to be able to afford it. There are rumours of VW coming in to race with Honda.
F1 cars would need to be radically redesigned for oval crashes and the engines would need to be changed to cope with running flat out for that long.
the off-season is brilliant. had so much fun last year, i didn't really want it to end.
we get more done. get to be more creative and generally it's a more enjoyable time for us.
during the on-season we just bounce from race to race, hoping that we'll fit some sleep in when we're able to.
You are wrong.
In the 60's it was part of the world championship...
:D
oh... but there is not racing in the off season... don't you get withdrawal from it? i always do.
50s
yeah i agree with that! I go out more :)
and we played eye-spy :)
nah, not really.
go?out?more?
what is this concept.
in space no less!!
VW will pick this over F1?! Goodness, they really like choosing small ponds, don't they? *sigh*
Hey, we have a Monza special, why not an Indy special? :D But seriously, how radical would the redesign need to be?
although it does enable me to catch up with downloads of races, that I can't talk about
lucky.
Fair enough.
Hmm, no offence but there's a part of me saying you brought it on yourselves...
F1 drivers didn't race in it in the 50s, yet many tried it in the 60s even if it wasn't part of the Championship...
its the off-season. desperate times call for desperate measures.
But only because we have a thousand other projects for Sidepodcast that don't get any attention while the racing is on.
I don't see it as an either/or against F1, more against N-word.
Hmm... offence taken.
N-word?
for a start the car would have to be larger to incorporate the crash structures. the cars may be ugly but Dallara did a mega job with that.
beats me. it's why I'm moving to a country to watch F1 at dawn - moves it out of the way. this middle of the day racing is such an inconvenience to me. I loved watching F1 at 10:30pm at night in Australia, but the problem is that they'd delay until whenever the movie finished - and if the tennis or golf was on, well .. bad luck.
Very. A lot of the telemetry components are very different. The temp sensors would need to operate in a different range, ditto the suspension would need totally overhauling... different ties for head support (g force being constant and other things), KERs could be a total liability, and weight of the car...
and then there is the fuel thing.
A term for the series you are presently watching, brought about by IndyCar bloggers who didn't want the Google ads/traffic from that fanbase...
ugh. i miss the 60s when Clark could run the same car in both Monaco and Indy and only need to make some changes to make it work on both circuits.
LOL
Well, they run an oval car and a road course car which look completely different, so, quite radical I'd say.
:D heh. :P
surely it can't just be myself and lou to gets withdrawal from f1 during the offseason?
even with the Honda saga and huge amount of enws over our previous winter i got lots of withdrawal :(
It's the same car with a different wing package.
Yeah, but only if you want to have the most efficient oval racing car. Apart from improved crash structures, the other things are not essential.
And different suspension?
I get F1 withdrawal but have sportscars and touring cars to feed my racing needs, and A1. It isn't the same.
i love the off season, loads of news, nearly all of it complete rubbish. then theres christmas, new year, just loads of fun :)
Could be
Yup - oval track car design have one side of the car wider than the other.
The off-season is cold and the only live racing is A1GP. The off-season sucks.
Which may or may not be around this year.
I just think the off-season makes the season more special.
The same way the panel is much better because it takes a break.
You should move to the Southern hemisphere then, preferably to a place with lots of outdoors activities... ;-)
Indeed.
and it took me atleast 3 months to get over my mild heart attack following hammys last lap glock pass
I really don't know if that is true these days.. Doesn't look it from the onboards.
but they do have different weights in each sidepod. oil system, cooling etc, was all on one side. I think Dallara had to do a lot of work to make the car road-course compatible
genius.
This is very true but that doesn't make December any easier.
Being an F1 fan is rarely easy.
Christmas? New Year? Theres loads of fun to be had
Christmas and the new year (and my birthday.... kinda...) helps get my mind off no f1 :P
Although November is worse, knowing how long it is until it returns...
The FIA's mission statement..
I spent one hour translating the Honda being sold story from Italian media because there were no english versions around that morning. I'm still bitter it turned out to be rubbish. that's one hour of my life I'll never get back. although i did get to find out italian is not that hard ;)
Over-commercialised.
Doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. Valentines Day - now THAT'S over-commercialised.
in my house we celebrate the real meaning of it, so it's alot more fun :)
except if you're female in which case you say it is, but still expect lots of presents..
same here! :)
I remember when Mr C took Christine out on V-Day... :D
christmas day was AWESOME this year, and pretty amazing last year too
You must be psychic, what is mine going to be like this year?
;)
i work in academic years :P
shhhh!
The suspension and head supports are quite key to the whole safety thing...
And the telemetry and sensors would be a bit of a boost to UK trade if they had to take on the same stuff as indy currently use :-)
:D
:P
Am still waiting for a present.
:D
hahahaha ooh i see what you mean Journeyer....
that's so true. i think i may need to hibernate...
haha :D i'll settle for a good season for Brawn GP ;) as much as i like Jenson he'd be a rubbish PM.
funnily enough a friend of mine told me that she may have to come a supervise me soon while i watch f1 just so she can make sure i dont pass out haha
i got one too, it's nice that she takes the time to reply to tweets :)
you make a very good point. and i agree off seasons do help to make the season more enjoyable, but this years just felt so long.
or perhaps regenerate like Amy. :D
blame honda. but wasn't it ALL worth it? :D
next will be longer, testing banned till 1st jan
Begs the question - which 'real meaning'... 21st or 25th?
And to stick up for the females here - I do not see the point of valentines and neither do I expect anything.... *and* I refuse to exploit it for commercial means!! I'd rather have my birthday remembered and not have to make my own cake tbh....
21st?!?!?
I'm in the position where I can ignore that!
Not really my thing.
with hindsight it was totally worth it, and i can't believe how it's turned out. but back then the no, it was horrible. and not having any internet when it happened just made everything worse.
Although I like the family get togethers..
Ok, that does answer that one quite nicely :0
I get 'two' december things :-) Lots of pagan friends who do Yule, and then the whole western christian tradition a few days later with my dad's birthday tucked in on the 24th :-)
And the dinner!
on behalf of men - still too many demands ;)
Nope, never heard of the 21st before.
I firmly meant 25th :D
makes it all the sweeter now. :D
pah! speak for yourself man!
cakes are eeeeeeeasy to make
two more things Jenson wants to do this year:
1. win what could be the last British GP at Silverstone
2. win the championship
pah! speak for yourself man!
:P
i agree, but stereotypes can be fun. i was swapping recipes with amy a few days ago :) i recommend a banana cake recipe but Amy was scared by buttermilk...
Caution #4 - the 2nd one for rain. Even the commentators are snickering that these are nothing more than showers...
i'm sure i'm going to get screamed at for this, but i'd quite like Lewis to win this years British GP, have a good wet race.
I'm resigned to that being the case these days.... I went out and bought my own birthday present yesterday :-D
3. be less boring. (what he said; Lou do not kill me)
Lewis already won it last year. Give Jenson a chance. :D
aaah, hehe
:o shocking
this is great - it's nothing you already have or would never ever want.
its got nothing to do with Jenson...i'm just a bit bored of him winning now.
Ouch...
Yeah we need a decent title fight please!
how can you be bored with him winning silverstone? :D cmon! i'd rather he lose out to vettel at istanbul rather than silverstone. :)
Well that's going a bit too far!
Nothing wrong with that 0 I normally buy myself my own presents for birthdays and christmas.
as Christine said on sunday, if this was schumacher and a ferrari we'd all be complaining
i'm not going to scream... :D but obv i would love Jenson to win it, just cause he never seems to do that well at the British GP, and he is so patriotic it would be a shame for him not to do it this year when he has a chance.
That would be up to Vettel and Barrichello. Vettel DNFed, Barrichello lost 12 seconds in 1 stint in the same car on the same strategy.
but it's not, so why complain? ;)
Yep. People are only not complaining because it is still a 'feelgood' story. That's beginning to wear off now.
ok, so i'd like him to win, but i'd like a proper race, with him really dicing with people
This is why I think F1 fans are whingers.
Last Year: "Poor Jenson"
This Year: "He's winning all the time!"
Let him enjoy his well-deserved moment in the sun!
even bernie said something like "bloody predictable" when interviewed by a certain F1 journalist/Spice girl on the grid walk.
that's fair enough, i think i would be bored of him winning if i hadn't supported them for years.
it'll only wear off once he wins the championship. for now, it'll still feel good. jenson running to the royal box helps too. :D
agreed! :)
Note to self... don't make F1 jokes at the dinner table to non f1 fans...
It has nothing to do with Jenson, and he's a great driver, and the teams story is amazing etc etc. BUT i want to watch a sport where the winner overtakes loads of people.
did you say the meal was a little bit piquet?
Then why are you watching F1?
ooooh, nice dig there. i've always stuck up for him, but i want different drivers to win each race.
its all comparitive, "loads" means 3 or 4 lol.
:D
My mum said her curry was really burny, so I replied 'just be glad there's no Max in there too' to a blank look...
d'oh. :(
haha i did that once and was greeted with blank pitying faces. i haven't done it since.
i didn't mean it as a dig :( sorry!
haha :)
I suspect since he still lives, "me" was the last drummer od Spinal Tap...
haha it's ok :)
i know he's had it bad for a loooong time, and i'm happy that he's back up the front, but i was all hyped up this year for some really close racing, but it never happened. i would just like a proper title fight, rather than 1 guy running off, dosent matter who it is
:)
red flag due to rain. but the rain has stopped - for the moment.
out come the jet dryers...
oh.my.goodness.
seriously, why is this even considered a sport
They did run a Busch race at Montreal (The GP circuit) in the rain once. The wet tyres they used were 10 years old (older than the tyre barriers) and the wipers didn't work - one guy used a squeegee to see where he was going!
and this is way less rain than we saw at any wet F1 race last year.
oddly enough, only US motorsport stop for rain now. F1, MotoGP, WRC, and similar European formulae don't stop for rain. Either they used to and stopped doing it, or never did it at all...
they have jet dryers?
yup - to dry the track as quickly as possible. that's how allergic they are to rain.
It seems some here think it would be a good idea to run at Charlotte in the wet...
Well, they're not allergic to rain on road courses.
they're not? but i thought they don't have wet tyres?
Running on an oval in the wet would be madness. The only oval track where they do it is at Daytona for the 24 Hours (oval + infield layout). Cars have been known to slide down the banking.
They did an exhibition race at Suzuka and it was wet so rain tyres had to be used. They also had a Nationwide Series race at Montreal last year I think where it tipped it down, and they had to get rain tyres out which I believe were 10 years old!
That may explain why only US motorsport observe rain delays - they're the only ones than run a lot on ovals...
But they only observe rain delays for oval events..
true, but that's their bread and butter. which isn't the case in europe...
NASCAR is definitely a cure for insomnia. I only keep up with it to see how Scott Speed is doing.
I agree. Will keep it on as I fall asleep tonight. :D
Medical Science has not yet been able to determine what is YOU suffer from at the end of each race Lou, it is too serve to be labelled "withdrawal"
I'd just call it hyperactivity. :D
I'll be off then. Will continue watching the 600 from bed.
Night, everyone. :)
I call it Can't-get-enough-of-Jenson-Rubens-and-Brawn-itis.
Hah - you won't last long!
Good night!
night J
night journeyer!
I know - might not even make it to the end of the rain delay! :D Night!
:D haha
:) I could run some tests.... just send me a drop of blood - I'll check to see if you have Minardi DNA
good night
there are worse things to have :)
night
*ahem*
Not a bad syndrome to have ;)
Love-for-anything-red-with-a-Prancing-Horse-on-it-itis? Specially in the bad years... ;-)
Everything in F1 seems to have Minardi DNA...I'm pretty sure that's not biologically correct.
omg i'm just listening to scott mills show from this morning... they were talking about Martin's interview with Bernie and Geri Halliwell and Formula 1. that was strange.
I think Geri did a good job of interviewing Bernie. Who's this Scott character that seems to be stealing my name...
he's not a patch on you, trust me.
plus, he's orange
Scott Mills is a radio 1 DJ. lol pretty funny and very orange.
i agree. but it's something to listen to while revising/ writing notes.
I didn't realise he is orange now..
Mr C has been up to something again:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/25/now-about-those-movable-boxes/
I ought do some revision I suppose... first: food and a cup of tea
:) Funny how both you and Lou used the orange word. Who says I'm not orange?
too much fake tan :P
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETAH! :D
oooh
I'm done abour 15 minutes of revision in my hope of 3-4 hours of revision - I'm on fire today.
that was the test message earlier then :-)
(closes old LCLT - goodbye, friend)
Awww.
nice save Lou. You dropped below Jon in my favourite list. FYI, I used to have a radio show, possibly not the same caliber, but we had fun.
(opens new LC - ooh, swanky)
FF 3.0.1.0 hung for a few seconds while it loaded content.
"We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the wine and the song, now old LCLT's gone."
But there's zero 'thinking about it' time when I send a new msg!
I suppose I should read the post now :-)
Evening all
ooh.. exciting
To be fair it says on the Still to Do stuff about that
Yep just saw that.
So this is what Christine was testing out earlier....
I'm playing with movable boxes!
Oh yes I like this.
I'm impressed. Thanks :) One quick question before I disappear for the evening, will there be a box for an embedded feed?
That's the top left is it not?
sort of. feeds may remain in the main post, depending on how we use the FBFB.
Cool. I could teach you how to get the live timing numbers and stick them in that box :) Great work. now when's that next race...
You've got two weeks then ;)
the discussion about movable boxes... from last september:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/09/14/live-commenting-italy-the-race/#comment-106838
we're not very quick are we!
The main thing is - it's done! How long it took is now irrelevant in some respects. Now that we have it and it works, that's all that matters :)
Oh, anyone who downloaded James allens toolbar, apparently it has a nasty conduit search thing* which remains even after uninstall.
*Not that i know what it is, just what i have heard is all
far enough away to make sure that it's stable :)
we almost could've released in time for monaco (the date this was promised to be ready by). but it was just to risky.
Depends how much nagging he got really, and if that will stop now :)
Doesn't matter! You guys have had a lot on since March and probably earlier.
Actually - you said you'd have something around Monaco time and you delivered! Well done guys!
oh dear :(
but it's better than we could have ever imagined!
I knew he was evil. I just knew it!
You've done well - better to be safe than sorry when it comes to stability. look at the history of Windows if you want to see what happens.
it's here and it's awesome, thats what matters :)
look how long it took Jenson to get in an awesome car, I doubt all that waiting matters to him now he has it ;)
Im loving these boxes, although im strangely hypnotised by the FBFB waiting for something magical to appear...
As I always say, good things are worth the wait. Nothing worse than rushed buggy software!
He is nothing like Jenson Button... I've seen him run!
:D ! Is he as bad as Sutil? Oh wait, no-one's as bad as Sutil...are they?!
Most of us have too :P
Haha we should christen this version of live commenting the Jenson Button solution!
Good point!
not sure how soon that will happen. hopefully live by turkey. it's something that will be basic to begin with, and grow to become more important as time goes on.
we'd welcome any ideas as to things that it can be used for too.
best not. i'll never get revision done if there is a jenson button commenting solution :P
Stats! I LOOOOVE DE STATS!
you could pilfer the BBC's live championship standings situation. nah not this year - no need! live timing could be done, it's fiddly but that's what I'd go for.
Live FakeF1 twitter updates?
ooh, interesting. the language might be a problem, but certainly if we can filter them.
Current Daily thread topic/s?
bernie would have a fit wouldn't he? rather not get into trouble if we can help it ;)
Count on number of dads present at F1? Location of THAT woman?
Who is this weeks Bernie's daughter? Cumulative hours of Amy's sleep?
twitter updates from the teams? they seem to get pasted into the convo anyway though...
that could work well.
Or the #F1 hashtag, if that isn't too fast-moving.
Would that be allowed?
you mean i have to do it myself then? no worries. I've been looking to palm this job off ever since I arrived in SPC land.
Twitpics or F1 pics?
Then they'd work well. Save us having to paste them.
i know!
;)
Right, that cup of tea..
;) I'm looking to help others...and use others as well. i have some specs somewhere...
night all. leaving the computer and go home. think it's still 32 Celsius outside though...not going to be pleasant...
see ya scott.
Night Scott
Bye Scott
ahh, interesting.
agreed. will have a think.
Theres a #fakeJakeH
he's a bit rude though...
And I thought we'd seen it all with FakeSPC.
theres one now?!
did anyone own up to that after?
Has joe come out from under the sofa yet?
no word as yet, no.
http://twitter.com/sidepodcastchat
http://twitter.com/sidepodcastping
http://twitter.com/sidepodcasttalk
Who are these?
Holy heck...
they are us.
haha yep, i got an email the other day saying fakesidepodcast was following me on twitter :)
aah ok, got really confused!
So SPC has effectively 5 Twitter accounts? Good lord...
sidepodping is the only one worth following at the moment - tells you when new posts are up.
the plan is to send new comments over to twitter when they're published here. so you can follow in tweetdeck etc. it's difficult getting replies to work, so it's just something on the list at the moment.
nope.but they've only done 3 tweets so far.... maybe they got bored? ;)
umm. we have @f1bigpicture and @f1minite too.
So that's 7?!
He means @f1minute, of course.
Ahhh you're not going to turn your twitter account into a news feed are you?
was hoping they'd interact with the fake drivers. y'know go and interview them for a fakepodcast or something?
That could be overwhelming..
at least.
they're free, does it matter?
am following the equivalent on identi.ca :) it's very useful.
No no, of course not! :)
I'm just surprised you'd need that many. :P
it is. very.
however, it means you could comment on spc via sms and other interesting things, so worth considering. but it's not a priority.
we have plans ;)
Aha, gotcha ;)
Yeah that would be useful when you're out and about and don't have a fancy ipodphonething..
that would be brilliant, i hope whoever is doing it is better than lee :D
Wonder how long it'll be before there's a FakeLeeMck ;)
ahh, you know you want to...
i found another twitter account:
http://twitter.com/sidepodcastdrop
seems to have stopped updating though :(
Impersonating a fake woman isn't really my kinda thing unfortunately ;)
i'd love to do a fake twitter account, dont know who i'd do though
I dont think there is a fake ant davidson yet
there isn't?... i kinda assumed the must have been...
Wait, I've got the perfect one! ;)
whoooo?
You'll see ;)
Fake Legard?
haha, that would be good
Would be better than the real thing :P
You could have a fake Grosjean and spend your time winding up fakePiquet of fakeJacquesVilleneuve since he is talking about coming back.
There is not a fakeNickFry that I am aware of and then there is fakeCharlieWhiting or even better fakeAlanDonnelly.
There are many options.
If you are feeling particularly brave there is no fake Franck or fake diGrassi.
so is there a fake version of every driver? i can't find a fake rubens which surprises me..
The picture I've chosen's not showing up at all. Any idea why?
Who did fakeTremayne?
Never mind, got it now.
dosent work for me either
Right, mine is up. ;)
Afternoon all.
I've just been followed by FakeSebBuemisMum which is weird.
hahaha, nicee
hey chris. how's tricks?
Not bad thanks. Loving the new LC! (having slight freezing issues while moving boxes about though. I blame my computer)
have you tried minimising first (little arrows top left)?
Nope. Will try that next time. Thanks!
MrC what does the last polled thing in the bottom left mean?
I just have to follow her
I spy fake Franck
Very brave
haha, that'll be scott then probably
It is the last time comments were downloaded. All the live commenting solutions have them
Huh?
Thanks just hapened to be a very odd number, but i guess it all makes sense now
I'm getting worried by all the swearing FakeJakeH is doing...
fakefrank?
I've done a fake somebody, but that's all I'm saying. Where's the fun in telling? :P
FakeTheWiss?
Hahaha!
which is why twitter has the option to block people.
True...
he is a bit rude tbh
takerubens
*fake
Tell him to tone it down!
Probably a play on his being a former goody-two-shows kids tv presenter?
i shall send him a DM
I would say so - also he mentioned asking his mum for permission to do stuff...
It's easily possible to do so without the swears.
FakeJakeH: Sorry for the foul mouth - my mum found out & now she's washing my mouth out with soap (Finally something worse than listening to @FakeEJ)
Hehe :)
FakeRubens is extreme to the max with his tweeting.
aww new live commenting live....thing went to sleep :) so doohickey is a her and lclt is a him?
Bless
I love how these new versions of the live commenting options go to sleep :D
It's suddenly gone all quiet. :P
Seems perfectly reasonable to me. The reason for the rule is that WRC rally drivers used to dive into th car after a wheel change etc ad drive off without fastening their belts to save time. They used to complete stages at full speed then fasten the belts at the end.
The rule has to be black and white an not open to interpretation so it has to be that the belts can only be undone if the car is not moving. Anything else just leads to grey areas. If disqualififcation is the normal penalty he should have been disqualified. Th only reason he is undoing the belts before the car stops is to gain time.
Awwwwwww at Fake rubens bio...
I shouldn't have laughed... :D
That is correct. Cute, aren't they?
Because a her can multitask?
very cute! :D
And a him can do more?
*Runs, Ducks, Hides, Disappears*
I didn't know there was a towel day. Where is my towel? Panic!
Neither should I. That's very good.
I'm getting far too distracted watching twitter tonight from my revision... in fact my revision all day has been pathetic.
bah :(
I'm liking FakeMontagny's bio too:
Giving it le beans in le Peugeot. Viva la France et Le Mans!
:D
Oh yeah.. I never started mine.. I should do that.
Boo. Tom K all the way!
haha :D
Totally agree
Just found this. Fabulous
Do you revising people all have Revision Timetables like Arnold Rimmer?
i did for my first ever set of exams but cleverly never stuck to it, so now just revise as and when i want hehe
i never bother with revision timetables just cause it's so easy to procrastinate and make them really pretty etc.
I look at a book and hope that lasts for 10 minutes at least. It usually doesnt :(
That was Rimmer's problem, he once spent 7 weeks making the timetable and had to do all his revision in one night. Another time he put two Septembers in by mistake....
ahaha i just got a little confused between fakesidepodcast on twitter and Mr C as their icons are really similar. lol i thought MrC had a bit of a man crush on Franck for a second. lol :D
Never have, never will..
Hehe.
Yeah, the 'yum' caught me off guard a little too..
I thought the real Xmas was January 6th
Hmm don't know about that but in Italy you're supposed to get your presents from the Christmas witch then...
I wonder if Steven is using the new Live Commenting thingy yet seeing as he's on this morning's posts???
I thought Christine had acquired control of the sidepodcast account for a second. Didn't notice it was the fake. Mind you half the time I mistake Amy for fakeHeikki so I am easily confused.
and the doohickey for real time. Sneaky huh?
That's weird ... it's like you're in two places at once???
The world as we know is being sucked into a supermassive black hole because of this
loving the muse reference there Lukeh ;)
Bleh. Obligatory Muse reference. Was Two montages not enough for you last weekend?
The Orthodox one is, yes... although its the 7th rather than the 6th (which is epiphany).
(6th was the day that harold was crowned king in 1066 though :-) )
Can't get enough me. ;)
Amy allowe me to use some of her Borg technology but says not to worry I have not been assimilated. Apparently it is quite normaly to hear other voices.
I was going to make some quantum mechanics related joke... But then realized that a) few would have understood it, ending in worst faces than the F1 jokes in non-F1 environment, and b) I couldn't come up with a good one anyway :P
Oooh Darren Heath's big picture is up on BBCF1. Squiggly stuff.
Wonder if his website photos are up then...
So I'm thinking of getting an iPhone on an O2 contract. Good move or bad move?
Awesome, they are :)
Bah ignore me, I clicked Spain.
o2 have been great for me, and i've never heard of any complaints of iphones
really? they usually go up on the tuesday. yay! *runs over to Darren's site*
I think the new one comes out next month, i guess the current one will get a lot cheaper
lol *runs back* check again tomorrow ;)
*hides for when you realise i clicked on wrong race*
Comes out 17th July.
BBC f1 photo has a typo in the first line:
"Jarno Trulli speeding along the streets of Monte Carlo"
I see no typo. Unless you mean Monte Carlo instead of Monaco.
which is technically right
depends where you live, when Dad was on O2 he couldn't get any signal at home at all. they were great when it worked though :)
Speeding?
Jarno? speeding?
I'm guessing thats it
Yay!
Go Trulli train jokes!
Well, not to stir up an argument but Monaco is the "country" and Monte Carlo's the town/city name.
oh yeah, signal. forgot about that lol.
One downside of being right at the back is the lack of a truli train.
Monte Carlo is just the hill
Two days ago you didin't want to buy a t shirt because you were saving money and now you are going to blow £300 on a phone
Here's some info on the iPhone 2009
http://www.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_2009_comes_on_17_july_oled_display_on_board-news-917.php
Update from Vitor Meira, the guy with the damaged vertabrae at Indy - he's out for 6-8 months.
It's only £35 a month on the contract I'm looking at and the phone comes free.
Bugger :(
Thats quite a lot 3 gave me a free phone on a 6 month contract with internet at £15 a month.
I fond the shops had far better deals than online, which is the opposite of how it used to be...
It's £35 for 24 months by the way.
I'll have a look in the O2 store in Chapelfield and speak to them there. See if I can get a deal or something since I work for a company who repairs their phones!
Which is over £400 a year. That is 18-20 driving lessons or half of what most people take
I find £35 is a lot..
£840
What do you need minutes/texts?
I pay £35 a month with Orange and I get free unlimited internet and free 24 hour a day phone calls to about 100 countries from home. Of course I don't get the iphone but I cope
£35 a month?! what do you get with it. my contract is £15 a month, i get unlimeted texts and 400 free minutes a month. It's a 18month contract and when i signed up i got a phone (and lovely phone it is too) for an extra £50 (much less than it's actually worth). £35 a month seems a little expensive...
My driving lessons would come free. How? My aunt and uncle run 5DAY, an intensive driving lesson course. They're prepared to give me a course that's already been booked if and when that person who booked it pulls out, essentially giving me a free course because the instructor's already been paid up. So all I have to pay for is the test.
Good night all :)
i think Dad has the same deal as that. Orange customer services can be good too (if you get through to one of the two english call centres.)
sidepodspace - The Russian version
The next permanent crew to the ISS will as usual use the Soyuz. They are due to launch on May 27th. Pictures of the Soyuz being prepared and transported to the launch site can be seen at the following link.
http://www.space.gs/news/?p=1803
The contract I'm looking at gives me:
600 minutes
500 texts
Unlimited data and Wi-Fi
Visual voicemail
Reduced roaming rates
What on earth is visual voicemail?
Leaving a video message, I assume.
I haven't had a single problem with Orange.
My previous phone was with O2 and their customer service was rubbish. I spoke to a mate whose business dealt with O2 and he said that their customer service with businesses was no better.
It really annoys me that all these deals are in place to stop people having the phone they want on the network they want.
Ah, ok the goggle tells me it inst what i feared, just a menu to retrieve messages
Apparently because the new iPhone is coming out, O2's exclusivity ends this summer.
Um
Have a look at it on PAYG - in the longer term it works out rather cheaper, even paying for the phone, unless you are planning to make a *lot* of calls from it, or go overseas.
And get it from apple and *buy the applecare* (and yes, I know I'm technically biased, except that do note that himself is being very quiet on this thread.... and no, we don't have one)
In the end it comes down to how much of the functionality of the iphone you will use against what else you can use the balance of £840 for
Essentially I'd want the cheapest contract but with more minutes. I'd never use 600, but then 75 minutes a month won't exactly get me far either.
I'm paying £17 per month for 75 mins and 200 texts.
yeah that annoys me too. But your right Orange are very good, as are orange wednesdays :) we've only had a few problems with our internet and each time orange have been very helpful in fixing it. We originally had BT broadband and they treated us very very badly so when we switched to orange we were pleasantly surprised.
I'm surprised because when they were Freeserve and then Wanadoo they were bloody awful.
we had freeserve dial up lol but then again we didn't use the internet much back then.
I remember when I could go for more than an hour without using the internet. The world is a better place now
erk!
I had dial up - but it just meant that I didn't have to take phone calls (vrf) although that could be said to be a disadvantage of unlimited calling services.....
Has someone declared a sidepodcast holiday and not told me?
I was just wondering that...
Or are people just trying out old dial up accounts ...
...oh... Twitter?
no...sadly not. what makes you say there is a sidepodcast holiday?
Twitter is incredibly quiet too
It's so quiet
i'm around just listening to lots of tim minchin, i don't really have much to say other than tim minchin is very funny... sooo how is everyone this evening?
I'm looking at a simulation paper for my 'drafting financial statements' unit..
I was flicking through it near the computer, I should move over to the desk and finish it..
I'm watching live videos on Youtube of Mu...a band.
:D
I'm attempting to get someones address to send them a card without seeming like a stalking....hmm
*like i'm a stalker
I'm solving some exercises with the Doohickey open...
Why all coy all of a sudden?
I talk about said band too much!
Im about to start GP+
Autosport did have a good story in paddock life about journo's being tricked to run around Monaco http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/75633 maybe that's why joe wasn't available
Do you? I hadn't noticed :-)
I try my best not too mention them too much because I've annoyed far too many people by not shutting up :( not my fault!
And my family have finally left. :D
Huzzah!
Don't you like them?
Oh they're lovely.
When they're across the other side of the country.
That's a bit harsh, isn't it?
I don't think i could cope with mine being that close!
Some things are just too odd. Fake Piquet jr is having an argument with fake Tatohead;s mum
Hehehe.
I can take them in short bursts. When I go to Norfolk for the weekend I spend most of the time out and about.
LOL!
He was having an argument earlier with Rubens too which made me a happy panda
Riiiightey ho! Finally worked out who i'm voting for in the euro's. That took along time lol!
We all having a fun evening?
There's been an influx of new fake drivers on Twitter. :D
FakeMontagny communicating with FakeSPC, I see. :D
did fakerubens win the arguement?
i think so... i'm not sure tbh.. i feel like i've forgotten to do something today, but i can't think of what it could be.
haha they'res a faketremayne!
I can't remember who won (Rubens I'm sure :P) but I remember FakePiq saying 'Oh even the best drievrs can come last' and fake Rubens replied 'Yes well when you stop spinning you can find out'
That made me laugh so much when it popped up.. and that jenson button twit pic :D
:D
Not to mention "Jenson Powers" earlier on today ;) :D
I still can't explain how I managed to make that and not see the typo 'MONABY' in giant letters at the top..
Nevertheless, it's still bloomin' hilarious :D
Aw man, drop.io have taken off the links at the top of the pages... that was really useful to get back to the main sidepodcast page with a click
Heading off so I'll see you guys tomorrow :)
night!
night!
night!
night
Alianora, if your post trawling and catch this later on in the morning
[and other UK Force India fans]
I heard on Thursday's pre-Monaco Telegraph F1 podcast that they are giving away a signed [Fisi?] FI cap to one lucky listener. Think you just have to email the show
*you're*
[Blushes, RG's gonna milk that if he spots it ;) ]
It took you 12 mins to spot it? :P
Amy will be pleased, there is a pic in GP+ of 2 fins (Hekki and Kimi) Both smiling!
Yeah, I only went back to read the last dozen or so comments :)
At least I caught my own mistake, damn that lack of edit button on Desktop Doohickey
[Yeah, yeah, on the list]
