Whilst searching for any reasons today might be notable, I discovered that it is Johnny Herbert's birthday. The former race winner is 45 today and, according to Wikipedia, was last seen in the Speedcar Series. Meanwhile, things are stirring in the F1 world:
- Following yesterday's revelation that Max claims he won't stand for re-election in October, in return for the teams not going ahead with a breakaway series, we're turning our attention to the FOTA meetings today to hear their side of the story. Are things really as they seem?
- Amy and I were put into a good mood yesterday, when the recurring feature on F1.com "Ask the Expert" featured Heikki Kovalainen. He answered one particular question correctly and the answer included Franck. Hurrah!
- Hockenheim appears to have lost all hope for a continued presence on the F1 calendar, as the council have unanimously agreed they don't want to pay Bernie's fees. As 95% shareholders, what the council wants, the council gets. Check out the related F1 Big Picture for this story, too.
That'll do it for now. Feel free to discuss any of the above and all else that crosses your minds, and as per usual, I'll see you in the comments.
ooh my name in the daily! Go Heikki!
Hi all
Have only read snippets of today's news so far
Are we taking it with a pinch of salt or is it the real deal?
Max's promises come ready salted
depends who you ask.
:D
awesome :)
Most people in the world seem to be buying it hook line and sinker. I have taken a slightly skeptical line
Thought so
I'm with Nick on this one
Wasn't Johnny last seen on EJ's boat in Monaco?
That needs to go on the comment of the year list
I was thinking the same
am on it.
hehe

Hehe, there are so many good ones on there!
I chuckled :D
Hehe, I'm listening to the Debrief, I heard the ad to look at the drop...
Being a good consumerdrone I headed right for it and the F1 related stuff...
2 pizza's, Amy's delivery updates and a clapped out corvette!
Hehehe :D :D :D
We like to stay on topic at SPC :)
Yeah, it was such a good bled form the podcast i love it!
i've no idea what that says?
Not just me then :D
New keyboard please, express delivery
Hahahaha
It was supposed to be blend.
Untill my new keyboard arrives i am blaming Microsoft!
No need to stop when it arrives :)
did we find out why vista was cool earlier? i half saw a comment...
You haven't made that your first negative filter? ;)
It sponsored Rg's quiz win... Although i answered quicker than him several times
haha!
ahh, ok.
Apparently it has something to do with 'spot the difference'

when it gets here i wont need a mouse... the world could break!
Has a track pad/ball?
Playstation stick thing, i doubt i will use it unless i am hungover
Is Steven Roy channeling Alia, and post-commenting?
Is that to assist in graphics work?
The quiz this week was a bit odd. It included some rounds where the fastest person to post an answer in the chat got the points and RG and his Vista beat all the Macs
I invented it. I am just way behind today
QFT
Its really just a keyboard for the ps3, so you dont need a mouse.
I do have my Pc set up by my sofa though so it will allow me to use it laying down.
Yes I am a sloth... :D
Is that Latin?
Quoted for truth I belive
:D
Quoted For Truth
Ah. Nothing that ever related to me then.
as opposed to QED: "quod erat demonstrandum"
Is QED still on TV these days and how many people have googled/wiki'd it wondering what it means?
As is demonstrated/proven, or such, isn't it?
I had to learn it at Uni cant say ive ever felt a need to use it mind.
yes, pretty much
Outside of medicaine, is there really a need for Latin?
I had a crazy school teacher who drummed that into us
I find RTFQ much more useful in my professional career?
[Had I known at school, and obliged, it would have also helped]
Some of it is usefull, e.t.c..
But on the whole i dont see much point unless you are one of the others
Does anyone know what Stuart is doing at the Norisring this weekend? DTM?
RTFM is also useful ;-)
Most European speakers have latin to thank, but teaching it seems to be about superiority and little else
Read the full question?
sitting on the loo, i think.
If you want to be a linguist i think it is very important, beyond that... meh
That's the family version :)
Essentially, it follows the same principle as Paul's example
I don't want the answer to that unmentionable
That is so helpful. Presumably he is not being paid to criticise German plumbing
I know a small selection of people that are very fluent in 2 or 3 languages, Latin didn't enter the equation
You can or you can't
I know a guy from school who spoke 9, he said learning latin at a young age means he can learn a launguage in 3 months instead of 18 because of it
dtm is there this weekend. i have no idea what he's covering, for whome or why though.
I think if you learn a 2nd language regardless what it is the next languages are easier.
Is Steven Roy channeling Alia, and post-commenting? {Comment #32}
As far as I can tell, nobody is channelling me. Though judging from the time-stamp, maybe I'm channeling Steven...
...or myself...
...er, Help! I'm stuck in a time loop!
Maybe a fair point but that's just freakish
Do people point at him in the street?
not that i have noticed, but if he is in Europe i am sure he could talk to them!
You are in a time loo and Any is in a sorry loop. Strange place sidepodcast
Probably - if he wears a toga
Is the time loo fitted with German plumbing? :D
Outside of medicaine, is there really a need for Latin? {Comment #46}
There is if you want to be able to read my forum signature (which is percussus resurgio)...
It's also useful when shopping for plants (at least if you're picky).
I dont get that... Aren't plants free?
I disagree, as an English spekaer who has tried Italian,m Spanish and a bit of French - I'd say a non latin-based one would prove quite a challenge
Vietnamese has something like nine words for the same 'form' of letters depending on intonation!
Accents are EVERYTHING
:D :D
You are in a time loo and Any is in a sorry loop. Strange place sidepodcast {Comment #66}
That was meant to read "loop". But yes, Sidepodcast can be a strange place.
now i am being silly...
That's where I am lucky. I don't have an accent
Would it be too much to ask that we all congregate in the current daily
[Post-trawlers excepted, natch]
You mean here?
I dont get that… Aren’t plants free? {Comment #70}
Only if you're content with the ones you happen to have growing in your garden or find in seed form on your travels. Mum recently ordered a plant from Essex, which she hasn't been anywhere near in her life.
ahh, bless bassano. waves from daily (25th).
I’d say a non latin-based one would prove quite a challenge {Comment #71}
Japanese was quite tricky for me, but then again so is Spanish. I do remember one practise exam I did for Japanese though, where I attempted to order a return train seat only for the teacher to burst into laughter. The practise test pretty much stopped at that point because the teacher found it so funny that I'd inadvertantly ordered an "oxygen seat"...
See, I knew that would happen ;)
'tis why I asked ;)
That’s where I am lucky. I don’t have an accent {Comment #75}
If I could manage to be in the same one for a whole day it would probably help...

sidpodcast could keep me busy for days
A fine example!
ahh, okay. sure thing. it won't be today, but i doubt it's hard to fix.
I've been here about 18 months, I only leave to sleep and work. What's your excuse?
Hey guys, I may be late, but tragedy averted.
Its reminded me to start worrying if i drink too much diet coke...
How much is too much? *gulp*
I'm at work? ;-)
oops. busted!
Have you been out on the boat again ;)
yikes, just don't eat any Mentos
You do know she has a few blogs

If it helps, DD users would read and bookmark plugged blogs more often
No, I was told I have way too much leave time, so I've had to take some days off. It's the Budweiser talking
More tragedy put aside for another day
Hi Joe
Do tell
no.....?
No, but i used to eat apple mentos all the time as a kid, they dont seem to exist any more :(
No rival series. One big happy F1 family
Phenylalamine is too much at it's smallest quantity it seems

www.iheartfrank.com should be next on your list
Most people here seem to be a bit skeptical...
I think we will have a short outbreak of peace, before we can get back to the fun stuff again..
You know what happens to happy families when they all meet up for Xmas. The loonies have their say tomorrow
Blimey. If I didn't know better I would think she never sleeps.
Ha!
Sucker ;)
Thats about as useful as telling me binge drinking starts on your 3rd pint...
Why stop when the boundaries are so silly?
Yes, I suspect the paddock will look like a Jerry Springer episode in a couple years
Darn, you got me
Binge drinking is classified when you open your eyes the next morning
Before that, it's called "a blur"
Im sorry i cant seem to focus on your comment...
From 24th's Daily
I still believe that Mr C get's his Mac to convert all blogs to podcasts via
OS X's speech "thingy" and that he's just behind on his podcasts
Breaking news... The new keyboard has been despatched!
Will you need a security update before the postman delivers it?
Who updates security? that's for the loonies with their conspiracy theories....
Do Windows keyboards come with anti-viral alcohol wipes these days then?
Its a linux keyboard ;)
Max is wriggling already. He was being interviewed on BBC2 news. He was asked how the teams could believe him when he said he would not stand again when he had previously made that commitment abd changed his mind.
His reply was that so long as the teams behaved he was gone.
And if they don't?
Well a deal's a deal.
Doesn't sound to me like we have a definite decision not to stand.
Does that mean virus free but will mingle with none? ;)
The PS3 kind, not the Ubuntu kind :D
PS3 runs on Linux?
Interesting
Mac OPSX 4, anyone?
Its XMB is Linux Based, you can get it to run something called redhat. I am not sure what that is, but i suspect Garibaldi would like it.

Oh dear. I think this would be a deal-breaker. It's not like FOTA have been asked to do much of anything apart from a nebulous cost reduction within a time span hopefully extending well past Max Mosley's successor taking the presidency.
Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold" seems rather apt here in relation to Mr Mosley.
Out'geeked, twice in one night
Good job I have Merlot

Red Hat is a relatively common distribution of Linux.
I kinda thought that but was clinging onto reality

No one to blame but yourself (or Steven Roy) then.
You cut out the garibaldi bit, it was the best part!!! :( {Comment #128}
Sorry. That's because I didn't understand that bit. I've heard of Garibaldi biscuits and there's a 19th-century historical figure with that surname, but neither appeared to have any connection with Red Hat, Linux or XMB...
And this is how 3am comes around so quickly {Comment #136}
Already! Must go to bed (at least I've now caught up with all things Sidepodcast since I left a week ago...)
You have done well to catch up already.
Good night Ali
Actually, that's Lou's fault. But that's another story
Steven, I may have asked this before but are you an eternal night owl or do your shifts coincide with mine?
I am a night owl and my body was not designed to work on a planet with a 24 hour day. I need a planet with a 36 hour day
Can Tilke also share the blame for Hockenheim?
I remember years and years ago playing an F1 video game, (before I was following F1) and the Hockenheim track was this huge circuit with super-long straights with all the tight corners just before the start/finish line. When I went to do some research on Hockenheim a few days ago, I could scarcely recognize the track as being the same one I remember. I read that Tilke had redesigned the track by cutting out all the super-long straights. I then came across what I believe ultimately characterizes Hockenheim's sad fall perfectly.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2122/2404543914_49829d7ab4.jpg
We have mentioned this before, I recall saying that my my body clock was more in tune with Bajor than Earth
It was part of the idea of homogenising tracks. Hockenheim was never a great track but it was unique and required a different set up
Tilke and modern H&S requirements
You don't want to move to Bajor. Those Cardassians are not friendly
it was unique, and that was a good thing. I get a bit sick of so many Tilkedomes
Plus they do whinge alot [more than Rubens]
I'd prefer to stay onboard the artificial satellite with it's Dabo delights
Welcome to the party friend :)
We don't [heart] Tilke products
I guess they are good and bad. At least better than the Hungaroring.
Why don't tracks go up and down hills any more?
We all do
Turkey was supposed to address that
Somthing like Laguna Seca, or My Panorama would be good, if they could ever make something like that safe enough.
*Mt Panorama
Track designers should only be allowed to work with a pencil, a compass and a sharp mind
We need tracks with aspects of those tracks but with better safety. We fon't need go kart tracks like Valencia
Morning, everyone.
Has it been mentioned here that Joe has confirmed that the Boeri story isn't true?
He did have this to say, though:
It was a good track. With the loss of the forest section, it made Monza's low downforce unique.
Too bad it didn't address the issue of crowds...
Hmmm... No replies. I guess everyone's asleep already.
Good morning, Europe! :D
Well, there's definitely a deal of sorts. Max follows his end of the bargain as long as FOTA follow their end of the bargain. As long as FOTA do what they agreed to do (which they should, considering most of it is what they proposed to do), then Max will have to be very creative as to how he'd want to run again - because it won't come from FOTA.
They also asked LDM about this, according to JA. He said, "he might, but we won't." He sounds convinced that Mosley won't be able to come back - even if he wants to. I wonder what he knows that we don't...
Lunch time, and busy work today.
and good afternoon Asia. yay, got the timing right this time
Indeed-y.
Not even a word from Amy.
I wonder if she's sleepy.
Nah, she's probably busy.
yes, you did, Paul!
that wasn't wrong at all.
:D
It must be afternoon somewhere
only in Tokyo. still morning here. ;)
...parts of Asia then. :D
For those of you who can sleep or bored...
What do you get when you get three F1 world champions and one of the two the best road courses in America? You get the 1994 CART race at Road America. Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fitipaldi, and Jacque Villeneuve's first win.
Fun to watch. Brought back memories, especially how dorky Paul Tracy always looked. He looked like someone who was working for Microsoft instead of race driver.
LINK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DO05KVS53uo
noon here :-) well, 4 minutes afternoon :-)
Heh.
Hey - it's a 30 minute highlight reel! Not bad.
I'm trying to find a decent copy of the 1993 Cleveland race where Mansell and Emerson battled it for second place. Probably one of the best races I saw on TV when I was a kid.
Paul Tracy looks like a kid here! He looked a lot more mature in his later ChampCar days.
So does Jacque.
flights from melbourne to kl on sale for $99. If this applies to flights during grand prix time i would be in heaven
Given that Malaysia doesn't care so much for the GP as other countries do, I like your chances. :)
So what are ticket prices cost for the GP?
Free admission on Friday; lower deck seats in front of the podium cost USD300.
For Saturday and Sunday.
That isn't bad. I've always wanted to do a Australia / Malaysia trip from the US. I have a friend or two that live in Melbourne that I've always wanted to visit.
And those are the pricier tickets - there's lots of areas where there are cheaper tix. :D Flights from AUS-MAL should be cheap (as Amy pointed out). The tricky bit will be booking flights to and from Seattle/LA. :)
i shall investigate terms of the sale when i get home
the tricky bit will be negotiating with KL taxi drivers, especially in the evening once they start pretending there no such thing as meter in their cars :-)
Never mind. I would expect Journeyer to organize chauffeur service. ;-)
Actually, in less than a year, the tickets have gone down from 1600 USD to about 560 USD. If I am ever going to do it, within the next few years will be good.
Sounds like New York.
negotiating with KL taxis = EPIC FAIL. :(
no - way too expensive! perhaps I should link to my Sepang article here so you see how we travelled to and from the circuit.
A View of Sepang
Excellent!
morning!
evening!
already?!
how's everyone? :D
relieved to have finished work today
I know the feeling :D
I'm nowhere near done yet - 6.5 hours to go...
GRRR I've not been yet so don't rub it in!!!
we all decided to go and get cake so we were out of the office for an hour while we hunted down a good cake shop
I am going to miss that place when I go back to my actual job on Monday :(
:D Agreed. Heheh.
Wait - where were you working this week then?
Cake shop?
still on boring secondment inputting data alllllll day
the best bit of the news yesterday is that now I have again reason to travel to Melbourne in March :-)
yay, Melbourne!
Me too. YAY. I was worried there for a bit
it is so easy to get used to good things in life :-)
There's something satisfying about that though. I spent a summer once working for an NHS trust computerising records although kinda mind melting, strangely comforting.....
anyone tried that new iPhone F1 app during the GP weekend ? was it any good ?
oooh the $99 fares are for travel from 1 October 2008 - 31 April 2009, so do cover grand prix time, but need to be booked by June 28 by which time GP dates won't be finalised :(
Mr C may have info on that. I think he said it crashed a bit
I prefer the Nurburgring, I won't miss Hockenheim and it will mean it won't be in video games either so that will make my life easier :D
they lie! they lieeeee! any dates around the weekend it will probably be are $306 there and $270 return. Boooo.
isnt this app like, 20 quid? also morning all
It's like DC - very good, but crashes a lot!
I want to go there and cry :(
:-)
so Nelson says "Next year with 13 teams and 26 cars would be really amazing!"
He does realise he won't be in one, doesn't he?
If I were a betting woman, I'd say he'll have a drive next season.
Renault will keep him if Alonso is off to Ferrari.
He probably will, which makes me cry when so many better drivers won't.
may be he does, perhaps that's why he was taking so many photos during the drivers parade last Sunday :-) (I will post some pics of that when get back to my home computer)
He did say "would" rather than "will"
But he could be saying it from a fans perspective :P
I do like that he twitpics from the parade :D
I just feel very sorry for him. I don't think he's all that bad when it really comes down to it. How can you guarantee someone else would be better. Look at Bordais, they thought he was gonna set the F1 world on fire and all that's happened is that he's been beaten by a rookie. Twice.
some drivers were waving to fans, some were talking, Trulliwas standing alone thinking, and Piquet was taking photos on his mobile :-)
He drives an awful car and his team mate seems to get more out of it - I just get the feeling Piquet might be a bit like Liuzzi where we all think he's crap in F1 and then he'll do something else and look good...
Guys,
I know who Nick Wirth is, but who the heck are Manor F1?
But his teammate is Alonso! I think that if you were judging on pure driver skill there are a lot of people that'd tell you Alonso's the best driver on the grid.
Alonso is the best all round driver on the grid. Only one team mate has looked good next to him...
Right, and Piquet has never driven with anyone else. He's managed to crash a lot less this season! I just think people have it in their head that he's pants and look at everything he does with that already in their head.
Company Name: Manor Grand Prix Racing
Team Name: Manor F1 Team
Country: United Kingdom
Team Principal: John Alfred Booth
The Manor name came into racing in 1990 when former single-seater champion John Booth decided to establish his own team. Since that time, Manor’s record of success includes some 171 Race Wins and 19 Championship Titles in championships such as Formula Renault and Formula 3 Euroseries.
Manor is based in the UK across two sites, one in Sheffield and the other in Bicester. Its technical innovation is characterised by the fact that the race cars are designed, tested and refined entirely in the digital domain using the processes originally developed by Wirth Research Limited (WRL).
WRL is an engineering company, founded by Nick Wirth in 2003, which specialises in research, development and manufacturing in the high technology sector. WRL’s designs were successful in winning both the 2004 and 2005 lndy Racing League championships and it has recently produced race winning designs for Honda competing in the American Le Mans Series.
Wirth, who is the Technical Director of Manor Grand Prix Racing, started his career as an Aerodynamicist for the March F1 racing team. He was responsible for aerodynamic concepts as well as scheming and design of wind tunnel model components for the 1988 and 1989 Leyton House March F1 cars.
From 1993 to 1995, Wirth was Founder/Owner/Technical Director of the Simtek F1 team, which started in the 1994 F1 championship. Simtek Research provided the team with all of the engineering and design of the cars. Wirth went on to become Chief Designer for the Benetton F1 team from 1996 to 1999.
As part of its application to compete in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship, Manor has agreed an engine supply deal with Cosworth.
Thanks Wolf.
Still would have picked Prodrive and/or Lola instead!
Eurgh I need to go to work in half an hour and I've not showered yet but I'm too comfy to move. So so tempted to be skanky today....
that team mate was Hamilton right ? Piquet and Hamilton were fighting it out for the GP2 title. The when they moved to F1 they both started as Alonso's team mates. Hamilton matched Alonso more less from race one, Piquet is yet to qualify better than Alonso ...
I wonder if the fact that Prodrive were given F1 spot before and failed to show up had something to do with the FIA decision this time
Indeed. Piquet was considered a good driver until he started in F1 - which makes me wonder why he has done so 'poorly'?
I'm not trying to say he's as good as Hamilton or Alonso. But neither is the rest of the grid....
used it for the race - had no issues with it at all. :)
well one difference between HAM and PIQ is that HAM started his F1 career in a great car, PIQ in midfield Renault ...
Neither am I. It's just there is something funny about a driver that does well in the lower formulae and then is poor in F1?
he was (or seemed to be) as good as Hamilton in GP2 ...
Yes but also relatively speaking against his teammate he has done poorly...
They're a pretty accomplished bunch. According to Wikipedia, they won the following titles:
2006 Formula Renault 2.0 UK Winter Series (Mailleux)
2005 Macau F3 Grand Prix (Di Grassi)
2005 Formula Renault 2.0 UK (Jarvis)
2004 Bahrain Super Prix (Hamilton)
2003 Formula Renault 2.0 UK (Hamilton)
2000 British F3 (Pizzonia)
2000 Formula Renault 2.0 UK (Räikkönen)
1999 British F3 (Hynes)
1999 Masters of Formula 3 (Hynes)
1999 Formula Renault 2000 UK (Pizzonia)
1999 Formula Renault 2000 UK Winter Series (Räikkönen)
and then we can move on from Piquet to Kovalainen :-)
Who aside from this season has always driven in a championship winning car....
Sorry Amy?
funny thing is I went to google Manor F1 and landed on my own site :-)
If Alonso goes off to Ferrari, I think Renault will keep him alongside Grosjean.
If Alonso stays at Renault, Grosjean will take his seat. But if he has strong sponsorship behind him, he might just be a sleeper pick for Campos...
:D
:D Plug alert!
what plug, where ? :-)
Anyways, it is work time. I realise trying to defend the guy is impossible. He is hard to defend. I just think people are a bit meaner to him than is really deserved. It's probably just my British love of the useless underperforming underdog :D
At least he's not Nakajima who from what I can gather only has a drive as part of some contract Williams have for engines....
well, with FOTA FIA issues more less settled the drivers market will sure start moving soon, especially after 18 months of no changes (other than DC retirement related)...
You should totally plug your website!
I'm sure behind-the-scenes discussions will start today. and with F1 now on a 3-week break, there'll be lots of rumors for us to discuss come the Nurburgring. :D
A big caution needs to be made when even comparing team mates let alone drivers across teams. I know we all tend to think of PK, Kovy and SeaBass as weak links in the team (some will even say this of Rubens). Anyone who watched SeaBass at Le Mans knows he is a good driver, but somehow he has not turned that magic on in an F1 car. PK was good in GP2 and A1GP but appears rubbish in F1. As stated in the comments, PK had a mediocre car and his team mate was Fernando (who in terms popular view is the best driver on the grid). Similarly with Kovy, is he really as weak as the results suggest? The car has to be competitive and there has to be synergy between the car and driver. Last year Button seemed to be slower than Rubens, look at this year, a competitive car that suits his style! Last year both Jenson and Nick, the two smoothest drivers on the grid suffered since they could not get heat in their tyres so had poor seasons respectively. Listen to Joe and he is not sure that DeSeb is really any faster than Vitantonio, I happen to agree, but luck, equipment and opportunity has fallen his way at a very tender age.
It might be fun to make a quiz so each person can select the perfect brace of drivers for each team next year and get a sidepodcast community consensus.
My driver preferences at Timo, Nick and Jenson, so last year they would have been underdogs. I think I am the only one on Sidepodcast who thinks Massa is better than Kimi!
I support Massa over Kimi, but is he better than Kimi? I'm not sure, to be honest - I can't say yes or no. :D
Kimi at his best is better than Massa at his best, but with Massa, I feel he tries each time and when things go wrong he puts a fairly brave face (Singapore?). That is why I say he is better overall than Kimi.
Joe Saward looking at The Morning After.
Massa is such a sweetie. He was so gracious in defeat last season. Plus his little face when he got 4th on Sunday!!
Anyways this is me showered (:)) and out the door now
I rate Kimi as better than Massa because I recall him being much more of a fighter from the back/middle than Massa, and it bugs me that Massa needs so much encouragement to be confident.
Using the Massa in Singapore example won't work here. He was nowhere after the botched pitstop. No comeback, no heroics, nothing. Instead we saw some errors (running wide at the last turn, spinning into the soft stuff at the tunnel which triggered Sutil's shunt).
But the best example that would fit your statement would be after he lost the championship to Lewis at the last corner in Brazil.
It depends on your terms of reference - I think I am correct in saying since Kimi and Massa have been team mates Massa has scored more points and wins (so in hard currency he is better). I think Felipe is in the words of Alison a sweetie and is very popular team mate among the drivers.
Kimi race at Singapore was no better and with less excuse - was not a track where heroics are possible since you could not overtake.
This weekend Massa drove really well considering grid position and the circuit.
When I think of Kimi I think of 2005 where he did things like win from 17th and get on the podium after starting 12th or 13th. I think I forget 4 years have passed since then. They've gone pretty fast.
Very fast indeed - it seems like Michael Schumacher's been gone forever, but this is only the 3rd Michael-less season we've had.
Why do people still have maxout icons. My soul is crying.
full review later this week.
in short, during qually it was fantastic, the best thing ever. during the race, it repeatedly collapsed under it's own weight.
alex has the new 3gs and said it was fine though.
and is it one time price or do they charge per race as someone suggested might be the case ?
either.
you can pay, i think £20 for the app and all the races. you can buy it one race at a time (for race/qually) or one weekend at a time (for all sessions inc. fp1,2,3).
i'll detail every possible combination, prices etc later this week.
I used it under iPod 3.0 and it worked OK. hardly touched it during the race though...
Christ, it's more complicated than the pitstop strategies ;)
I am breaking my self-imposed silence to bring you Jake news:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jakehumphrey/2009/06/leave_no_silverstone_unturned.html
"We got into the Formula 1 Management building and there followed a mildly comic routine that wouldn't have been out of place on the Chuckle Brothers."
How can I resist?
"I always think of myself as the kind of guy who doesn't really need the trappings of a wirelessly-routed, on-demand, 21st Century existence, and then odd things happen to make me realise that I'm just as fragile and hopelessly addicted to this digital age as the next person."
At the start of that paragraph my Jake love started to wane, but he redeemed himself at the end.
He walks and talks and likes to be plugged in. Quite the catch.
Why? Are you becoming a Monk?
Appears to have a tendency to lock himself out of the house though.
An internet Monk?
No.
Also, Jake's bravery levels seem to be on a par with Mr C:
I knew he was talking about the Mosley interview and I'll happily admit that at that point I felt really nervous for the first time this season.
So much affinity with the BBC boys.
Jake also reminded us that EJ was right about Silverstone hosting the British GP again...
Gah, my last comment was at 2:45pm yesterday. Didn't even make it for 24 hours. Am officially more addicted than Mr C.
Why the self-imposed silence though?
I am mad at Formula 1.
Time to start that Wimbledon podcast? :D :D :D
did you catch up with steven's suggestion last night?
I did. Pure genius.
I also bought a tennis magazine yesterday. Worrying times indeed.
Even I haven't done that
netcast.com is taken though :(
Why?
Also, a new blog from the BBC's F1 Mole, oh no wait, sorry, it's Andrew Benson.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson/2009/06/formula_1_woke_up_this.html
I actually couldn't bear to read the whole thing but there's a nice sentiment at the end.
"For fans of the sport, the end to this crisis in F1 could turn out to be just the beginning of the good news."
Because I want the last few months back. It's all been a complete waste of time, energy and words, and nothing has changed.
I am mad at the sport, and I need something good to happen, like Brazil 08, to make it worthwhile again.
Actually I'm starting to feel the same way. Ever since Le Mans I wonder why I bother watching it. You are right - no more processions, we need an exciting race!
Yea. It's not really about the racing... that would just make me feel better.
Shock win by Montagny in Germany after he is called back into F1 after a terrible accident involving Button+Davidson and Vettel+Hartley and a game of doubles tennis?
That would just about do it, I reckon. :)
I'll just settle for Webber Vs. Alonso last lap overtake to win the race...
Any come-from-behind win (4th or lower) should do it, right?
I'd be happy with any result that doesn't see Button or Vettel win
I think it's about how they win it more than who wins it. :D If a Button or a Vettel win makes for an exciting finish, why not?
http://www.formula1.com/video/
GB onboard lap is up - and it's from Sebastian Vettel.
Even if they won from last on the grid I'd be like 'I want a different winnerrrrrrr'
I'm so fussy :D
:D Rubens, then? ;)
Good lunchtiem everyone!
I see jake has posted with some complicated no internet excuse!
If you go to it it says its for sale... http://www.netcast.com/
:D
not for how much though...
anyone on the list will do :D
I found this video of the energy station on the BBC... love the way even the medic has a nice big flat screen in his room :D
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8113041.stm
I bet he spent ages coming up with that elaborate excuse just for you.
If he knew what he was doing he could have gone to a
free internet cafeApple Store!Afternoon.
How are we all doing today?
Just a quick pop in before I head out again. Catching up on the news and the like.
The winner should also be the most deserving driver/team combination with some excitement. Even though I have my favourites, if a driver has driven brilliantly like Lewham at last years British GP then actually that is great with me.
Very good... my new keyboard jut arrived, will take some getting used to but at least all the buttons work!
Ooooh. The links now work! :D
Brawn seem to have lost there chief designer...
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21605.html
I wonder if this is a sign Ross wants to bring more of his own people in?
Hi Christine and Me,
Just want to say a huge thank you for asking my question on 'aside with Joe'.
Thanks
Kris
Brilliant vids they are too! :D
He only ever had one chief designer - Rory Byrne.
Hmmm... Could he be en route to joining Ross again? Hmmm...
I first thought... he designed this great car... he must be off to get more money... but look at the 08 car... I don't think his previous efforts have been particularly Stella either?
Big question is - will BMW rehire Zander? They lost him at around the time BMW took over Sauber. After designing what will probably be a title-winning BGP001, BMW sorely need his knowledge to right the wrongs of their car at present.
I can't stop laughing...
My Dad has had a test drive in Evora. Unfortunately for him, the first half of the test drive was done by a professional with him in the passenger seat, and then he took the wheel.
Unfortunately for my Dad, the professional was Martin Donnelly :D
I'm not saying what speeds were reached on the back roads of Norfolk... ;)
How much of it is Zander and how much of it is Brawn?
Whoever decides to hire him will surely find out.
But the wind tunnel's didn't actually work properly until mid 08.
They believed the wind tunnels over the CFD. Silly sods.
:D F1 folks are creatures of habit.
right, early night for me. I trust Murray to lose in my absence.
you? early night? ha! fat chance. :P
good luck pulling it off. night. :D
Wow cool!
Night Amy
Didnt they notice the cars were rubbish for 18 months?
Grrr. there is an unsubstantiated rumour about Mr Vettel and the Nurburgring which is far worse than anything that lewis got caught up in grr.....
The Vettel grandstand?
Eh? Do tell us more.
Sounds like Rubbish to me!
Yes... *sigh*
Could be worse. In Martlesham there's a road called Douglas Bader Walk.
Oops.
They didn't even name a corner after Schumacher until after he retired - and they're doing this for Vettel now?!
Hamilton syndrome is what I call this.
I hope so...
someone needs to stop these drivers from being overexposed, which is hard i know.
On the flip side of the coin, I actually feel sorry for mark having to do stuff like this... http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/technology/newsid_8108000/8108073.stm
Scalextric again?
Yeah, it wasnt even a proper track...
You can see he trys to say the crossover is too early, then he just gives up all hope....
Right - off out again.
TTFN
It looked nothing like Silverstone... pfft!
If I understand it correctly the grandstand will not be named after Vettel, but red bull and the Nürburgring offer a special Sebastian Vettel package for €99, which includes a weekend ticket on the 'Sebastian Vettel grandstand' (official name T6), an autograph, cap and of course a can of Red bull. German link
Thank goodness...
That sounds like a pretty good deal though
Sounds good to me. Red Bull gives you things?
:D Dank would love this. ;)
kathi you are an angel.
i'm not even going to look, but i'm guessing andrew got the wrong end of the google translate stick and then perpetuated the nonsense around the interwebs?
was it andrew who started it? tsk tsk.
no idea. purely assumption on my part. he has previous though.
It is on the homepage, one of the "latest news "stories supposed to tempt you in to a sub.
Andrew who?
figures.
On the Wimbledon live blog:
"Formula One driver Mark Webber is in attendance today. This man has serious tennis pedigree and is very much the Lleyton Hewitt of the pit lane having won the F1 Pro-Am tennis tournament in 2002, '04 and '05 and narrowly lost out to Juan Pablo Montoya in 2003."
Have no idea what that means, but yay for Mark!
took a look - it seems he has all the same details, except that he included the grandstand naming. whether it's accurate or not remains to be seen.
Lleyton Hewitt? Is that the best comparison for Mark? Erm, not so sure...
Montoya - the guy who got injured playing tennis. :D
F1 live must be his biggest customer, I am suprised ESPN hasnt given them the boot yet
Apparently.
From the google it seems Melbourne and Barcelona both host f1 tennis events
hey! no dissin' grown men who trip over rogue balls, anymore, ok?
;)
...sort of. ;)
Indeed! :D
What was it?
:D
some original editorial appeared for a while. i guess they figured it's too much like hard work?
Aww. Actually, go right ahead. Stoopid Franck.
He missed 2 races in 2005 after an injury. Many asked where he got it. McLaren said it was after "playing tennis." Rumors were he got it doing motocross... :D
Anyone spotted the new share buttons on the wiki?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/wetpaintbuttons-png
Subtle they ain't.
And he drove Le Mans the week after.
That man's awesome for doing that!
Maybe they are working on a redesign and will wait untill then. Cricinfo went all ESPN a few weeks ago
Didn't win though.
Why would they deny it? Mx sounds a lot better than Tennis...
I had no idea he rode, guess its AMA after stockcars then...
He finished. He beat Le Mans. That is hard enough when you are 100% and he did it with a broken leg!
Audi weren't on form. He was teamed up with Sarrazin and not crazy Klien. This was his best chance to win.
Well MTV3's (Finnish F1 broadcaster) headline this morning was that Kimi will not drink excessively during the summer holiday. I think I might actually prefer GMM.
of all the years, surely this is the perfect opportunity?
;)
According to this article he is the highest paid driver by a mile... What a waste of money...
http://grandprixdiary.com/2009-grand-prix-drivers/kimi-pips-valentino-and-lewis-in-wonga-stakes
i see autosport.com are advertising the 'racing car show 2010' today.
i guess they're as sick of 2009 as we are?
ha, nice payoff line there (don't look, kathi).
I think many drivers have a contract clause not to do other dangerous activities that potentially could sideline them from their driving commitments.
*sobs*
I my world it's forever 2005.
(sorry kathi)
According to rumour last year Kimi was the highest paid F1 driver, Fernando the second and Jenson the third. For this year Lewis will have secured significantly higher package that Jenson, if not Fernando. This year's bargain basement driver is Vettel.
jenson took a pay cut.
he's gotta be better value than vettel?
Jensen and rubens will be on less than him i suspect,
I think i saw him doing an overtake about bahrain time...
;)
It's OK I knew what I got myself into from the start. Finns notoriously underachieve.
Latest MTV3 headline. Ari Vantanen for FIA president
Yes he did, but next year who know how much he can demand.
I do remember reading how much Vettel was getting, if true, it was really rather poor (like 1 million). Jenson's was certainly not that low!
is he finnish per chance?
Oops I meant Vatanen
I also want to put to many n's into Finnish surnames.
There is a rumour that monkey island is coming out on the iphone...
that might be the killer app that convinces me to get one :D
I cannot believe it rains at Wimbledon every single year, without fail, so they install a roof and now we have glorious sunshine.
wiki tells me he used to drive with dave richards. he gets my vote.
the most bestest rally driver. He was in the European Parliament for a bit but is now free.
Im a bit worried that centre court looks like it normaly does after the final, and its only had 3 days play on it...
Boo. I dipped in and out of a whole Hewitt match and didn't manage to see Mrs Home and Away.
did he win?
He did.
plenty of time then. maybe she only turns up to the important matches?
Maybe. I think she was there, but I obviously wasn't looking at the right time.
She has nothing else to d, just follows him round all year. Dream job.
*do.
http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/88679870/
Blimey, that was quick.
Is he not too much of a conservative (politically)? Being and ex motor sports person of note is a big plus.
Clearly they are paying more attention than me.
was there two days ago too:
http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/88639914/
you'd make a great pap.
That's all she does. Watches tennis all day, smiles and claps. Am so jealous.
They cannot have this picture up already.
http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/88680344/
It happened about five minutes ago. I saw it.
well, she was at queens looking pensive:
http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/88292377/
but in france, mostly just sitting:
http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/88046963/
Why didn't I marry a tennis player?
you don't like going outside?
Well that's true, I suppose.
How can you say that with all the live commenting options and drop.io? :)
Because he's probably not a numbers guy?
Hmm, good point.
Another good point. I hush now.
Plus I don't think Mr Hewitt would know how to make a filter box, and they are all the rage at the moment.
Mr Hewitt has a mean tennis game, though. :D
Indeed. It would be pointless marrying someone who didn't have a mean tennis game though, or the career of smiling and clapping would be very shortlived.
so might i?
I heart this post from Dave Gorman:
http://gormano.blogspot.com/2009/06/putting-two-and-two-together.html
G'afternoon all. How you all?
I am not sure when it appeared today but PlanetF1 is reporting that
"'Max to step aside with immediate effect'"
That would make sense.
Will wait for Schmota news though
I have a new keyboard.. it has made me very lazy
Does that mean FOTA?
Cos there is news: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76515
I have also noted that...
Joerg Zander, Brawn GP's deputy technical director, has left the team.
I would like to know the inside story here as he is credited with a lot of the success of the Brawn GP design.
Oh thanks, i spend all afternoon looking at their website for a statement and they go and hold a press conference instead!
I mean, I say it's news, it's just waffle really.
I liked what Christian had to say about this (concern for the employees). No question it has worked to the best overall interests of the sport.
Is he, most of what i have read credits brawns ability to motivate and manage people, and got the team to produce results ike they never had before.
I didnt know about the wind tunnel though
mmm waffles.....
Brawn is the motivator and strategist, but does not get involved with the design as such, each car has a "philosophy" of design so it is adaptable to as many track as possible.
I love the fact that someone actually gets paid to write these stories
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8118257.stm
More FOTA news...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76518
There is no deal with CVC yet.
Discussions with teams who expected to opperate under the budget cap to commence
I liked this bit of the article...
"Rick Rockliff, a spokesman for poppy producer Tasmanian Alkaloids, said the wallaby incursions were not very common, but other animals had also been spotted in the poppy fields acting unusually."
Afternoon all,
was just about to say "can't believe its only 3.50" but then realised my clock is an hour late
Have you read some of the comments? They're fantastic!
I like how Flavio has muscled in on ethe commercial rights issue....
"Renault boss Flavio Briatore is to work closely with Formula 1's commercial rights holders to help shape the sport's future, as part of the breakthrough deal agreed between the FIA and the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA)."
Wasn't he the head of FOTA's commercial committee ever since Day 1? It's stuff like these that make people suspect he'll take Bernie's role if and when he needs a successor.
I have no problem with that - Experience in big business and F1 with a wish to spice up the show. Yeah, get Flav to run FOM...
Did not know that was his position in FOTA - very clear where he intends to earn his next few million though.
Funny, though, that whenever he's asked about it, he's always denied ever being interested in doing it. Heh. Oh well.
Not necessarily a bad choice to replace Eccles!
I do actually need to go to the store and buy some waffles now...
:D
I do actually need to take the dog for a walk she has her lead in her mouth, and is sitting in on one of the office chairs glaring at me!
Test
My favourite FOTA quote of the day...
After many years with the presidency of Max Mosley, we want to say good luck for the retirement," said Briatore.
:D Don't let the door hit ya on the way out...
Test.
wassup jon?
dunno, have found recently that my comments havent neccesarily been showing. not sure.
you haven't got a -jon filter, have ya?
to my knowledge, no ;)
evening all.
LCLT seems to work for me, so i'll use this.
How are we all today?
good. am just laughing at chris' tweet:
http://twitter.com/cjharland/status/2326055067
just me then...
;)
hey ya!
genius. :)
hmmm
Not sure if this is real, but...
http://www.dump.com/2009/06/24/in-case-of-fire-do-not-use-twitter/
Evening.
Good good good good. :D
Just about to sit my arse down on the sofa and watch a film from my childhood. Ghostbusters. :D
You will all be pleased to know that while FOTA may have got Max out of the FIA presidency, you ain't heard the last of him, he intends writing his explosive memoirs.
"The 69-year-old says his memoir will have “explosive” stories about his life as F1’s regulatory leader and involvement in the sport."
He definitely is not leaving without a fight!
Yes, thanks for kicking me out guys, I don't mind at all.
Oh please buy my memoirs, I know all your secrets.
Still think he'll stick his oar into F1 from time to time.
...Give me a job or you will all lose yours!
Can any of them be much worse than his?
Piquet is still driving... I expect they must be...
Based on what Nick posted earlier, I couldn't help editing it...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/spcfire-jpg
:D
:D
hehehe
Sorry but does anyone have a link to fp2 replay on the bbc site?
It sounds crazy i know, but i missed it...and i can only find the highlights
(isn't half-lurking :P)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8110268.stm
Thanks Rachel...
:D :D :D
I got to the first practice, but got stuck there... The BBC need to scrap that f1 site, and start again, it is nearly impossible to find anything on it!
That's the problem with their whole news/sport site, they don't index *anything*. Usually I just resort to searching through the rss feed for things - and I swear there are videos on there that never appeared anywhere else on the site.
Murray is 1 game away from Game set and match.
Thats a good idea, do they have a video only RSS?
This search page digs up a lot of stuff, especially things from local news which don't make it onto the main site...http://search.bbc.co.uk/search?q=formula_one&tab=ns&order=date&scope=all
http://search.bbc.co.uk/search?q=formula_one&tab=ns&order=date&scope=all
I missed all of it, but saw the important game.
Gulbis is very good, but he doesn't like tennis apparently...
His parents do.
Who loves Yas Island?
Nick does! and he has found a video about it:
http://www.ameinfo.com/201476.html
webbahhhhh is on wimbledon now
Mark Webber on BBC2 now
Oooh, Mark Webber on the Beeb.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/8117833.stm
Evening all
A tennis player, a Formula 1 driver, talking about cricket. Boo.
Just when I thought yesterday's news was as bad as it could get i have just found this gem on Autosport.
Flavio is going to work with Bernie to shape the future of F1. The last thing anyone needs is some of Flavio's insane ideas to be put into place
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76517
Better than talking about tennis :P
Hm.
He remidns me of Matthew McGonaheuy...
Talking about cricket is as bad as it can get. They should at least be discussing a sport
Lleyton hewitt I mean, not Sue Barker who appeared just as I said that.
ah gilly...
:(
Its been discussed earlier on the thread, some people think it will add some spice to the sport, personally I think Flav just sees all the millions Bernie has made and wants to cache in as well.
Tilke and modern H&S requirements {Comment #147}
The irony is that part of the reason for the modification was to increase seating by 30,000 people (grandstands couldn't be put by the straights in the forest, but they could easily be placed in the complex replacing them).
Shiny Face?
I do like that he twitpics from the parade :D {Comment #223}
Oh, so that's where the pictures he was taking ended up! The interviewer on board thought it was unusual that a driver would be taking photos of the crowd, but it says something about the magic of Silverstone that of all places Nelson could have done it at, he's chosen to do it there.
I tell you what, I make a fuss about some of the driver names we have to pronounce but I am starting to wonder if a tennis podcast is such a good idea!!
http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/sportplayer_uk_edition/motorsport/rss.xml
:D
Thank you! :D
That is a very good point! Lots of nicknames needed!
Shorten them down to three letters and add an I. Thats how I do it.
Might not work for all.
You'll also find the FP1 & 2 replay links for all the GPs this season still work if you want to re-watch them...
Ted mentioned in his blog that they read out a text about The Vet not being able to overtake, I was wondering if it was mine ;)
good god i hate microsoft. message pops up:
you may be a victim of counterfeiting. would you like to validate windows?
well, windows 7 is free to download for anyone who wants it, but okay, yes please. new message:
windows 7 is a beta product and cannot be validated.
redmond, you absolute bunch of spanners.
Was it?
Flav wants partially reversed grids like they have in GP2 and all sorts of other insanity. He has to be stopped.
hehehe. :)
I wouldnt be surprised if you soon get...
Windows 7 is unable to be validated, but we can still try once again. Of course, that will result in a blue screen of death but hey, what are you expecting? A good service?
Why the heck are you using WIndows?
hehe, i haven't gotten there yet, my viewing has been interrupted by inconsiderate family wanting to watch Wimbledon....
work.
Cos its quick?
Have you seen this?
In the EU Windows 7 will be shipped as 7E - without any browser and as a custom installation it won't be available as a straight upgrade from XP/Vista.
I just mentioned Franck on Clive's blog. Why do I feel I have to inform Christine?
http://madtv.me.uk/f1insight/default.aspx?blogid=559
If you are in need of a dart board i have a keyboard you may be interested in...
oh so thats not just me, i've had to revalidate my vista since ASUS sent my lappy back, boo @ them.
Not as quick as me...
Good evening
I wonder if they expect anyone to upgrade?
Im still very happy i dont have vista...
strange people ;)
:D
i think its great :D
Can I ask a quick question for any of you guys who have a blog?
Can you suggest any good anti-spam software to get rid of the buy my product x y or z rubbish?
here, here.
http://akismet.com/
Cheers my dear :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/ms-jpg
*shakes fist at microsoft*
:P
Some people will be taken in by the hype/advertising.
:P
:)
That was clearly your fault then...
and others will get it by default on new machines :(
2 years on I have software thats still not compatible with vista
It's supposed to be quite good (according to BOL...)
I'm watching Eastenders...
Just reached a "BUSTED" moment
hehehehehehe
I dunno what the general consensus is on here but I personally though XP did everything right (for Microsoft's standards) Then Vista came along and boom...
i know Microsoft have never had a really solid operating system but in comparison with their other releases, XP seemed fine.
i'm using it now. it's utterly hopeless*.
*unless clicking endless amounts of pointless dialog boxes is your cup of tea.
nt4 was pretty solid. it didn't do very much though.
I cant see what Xp and XP media centre don't do that i would need them to?
XP is night and day better than Vista. I have never had to re-install an operating system ever but I have had to twice with Vista.
I miss xp. Ah, sadly the computer I could be bothered to use it on ended up out the window.
you raise a good point.
Funny how now that Denmark has a team in Superleague 'Formula', the races will be shown live on Danish TV!
I had a vista computer that blue screened in safe mode once... suffice to say it got sent back.
Oooh, we got someone from Anderlecht. Feels like football now, all these transfers. Parantly it was his dream drive...
my vista came with a xp downgrade disk hehehehe
i havent had many problems with my lappy, and the problems i've had arent vista related
I saw you have joined the FB group for that Gavin
My experience is that XP was the best OS Microsoft released. Having said that it is ancient but fairly stable. Why not try LinuxMint - awesome as it comes with Open Office, Gimp, CD/DVD burner and virtual all codec and flash/shockwave plugins and a variety of media players etc. It is the only OS (including OSX) that quite literally works "out of the box". Make a Live CD or flash stick and boot with it to test drive. Also playing with compiz you get a seriously cool desktop.
Vista sucks - more than 75% of installations have been converted back and I think I read Microsoft has extended this until 2011.
Hey.
XP is solid as a rock, for a Windows OS. No reason to upgrade until MS start playing silly games, like not supporting new stuff...
How can I not join? Single seaters with V12's in? Ooooooooooooooooh!
live on Eurosport too
I don't wanna watch something which replicates the football situation.
finally getting around to the final of the Apprentice. know who won though, but I've watched all 10 eps so far, not giving up now..
But is it exciting?
It seems too silly to watch to me
Its OK, but honestly OSX and Linux Ubuntu are way more stable. I have a Linux server running Debian that has not been switched off for three years (nor has it lost power since it is on a high capacity UPS). This is my main teaching/blogging server since it carries huge traffic.
Is anyone going to goodwood?
wouldn't someone else step in if it is still widely used?
Oh yes! :D
yes, but for normal people as opposed to ubergeeks who reinstall every week, its fine
all i see is faster crashes?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Other+Motorsport+Events
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Other+Motorsport+Events
Not with LinuxMint, I am being very serious, unless you have some really strange architecture - it will install out of the box with no fiddling. Even installing new software is really easy. From ease of use it is better than Windows or even OSX. Mint makes Linux the most human friendly OS around. My new teaching and research Lab here at our uni will be 100% Linux.
But why bother with a change... what cant XP do?
I'm a bit behind on the state of OSeseses at the minute. Last I looked, Vista just came out and Linux was for geeks. :-) Can it run games and stuff?
force a window on top of another one. For example F1 live timing over spc lclt.
I may be reinstalling after Tuesday. Potentially getting a mobo/processor upgrade off a mate who doesn't need his any more (only a minor upgrade but it'll keep me going for 12-18 mths). You may yet tempt me to dual-boot.
No viruses to worry about, more secure updating of software, and to re-install it takes a few minute (15 at most) plus iof you have not experience multiple desktops (especially useful on netbooks) plus programmes just work faster. I manage about 100 PCs (mixed Windows and OSX) in our Dept - using OSX or Linux will cut down time of each work station by an order of magnitude.
Got to the LinuxMint and make a Live CD - ensure your bios is set to boot from CD. It will be slow cos it running from the CD. I actually converted my staff using USB bootup which is fairly quick.
I have Ubuntu on my pc as well, but i rarely use it. I just cant see anything which is worth replacing Xp with at the moment.
So... how does one say Joerg?
Kathi please come to my rescue - I know you are an Ubuntu user tell them it is not for computer geeks only (LinuxMint is just a glamorous version of the latest Ubuntu)
Easy 'Joe-RG'
'yooerg' I think
with a hard g, not like george?
Yorrick?
:D
Linux isn't worth bothering with on the desktop at the moment unless you do a lot of work in the environment *eg server admin, coding etc...*.
Even Linus has said that Linux won't be of use on the desktop - there's a man who knows.
mm, not sure, may depend where he's from!
as in Räikkönen. and a hard g
Damn. Where's Steven Roy when you need him? He always knows.
Ooh, I've just realised danny wallace's show when he started a country arrived through my postbox on dvd this morning.Excellent viewing times ahead :D
It's interesting reading the comments from earlier about Piquet and Nakajima.
It is possible Piquet is better than he has looked so far in F1. We know the team is wrapped round his team mate and that Alonso has a very odd driving style. So it may be that Piquet has not had the chance to show what he is capable of.
I have to say however I was always a bit suspicious of how good he really was. Every time he drove for a team that his father didn't own his results dipped severely. Nelson senior is not above pulling a few strokes. In the Brazilian(maybe South American) F3 championship there was a strict testing limit so Piquet senior had some mudguards fitted to the F3 car and drcided that meant it wasn't an F3 car any more so they could test as much as they liked.
I think his next move will dictate how his career pans out. He may have run Hamilton close in the GP2 championship but there is nothing to suggest he is that standard of driver.
Williams do not have to have Nakajima. They have o pick one driver from the Toyota driver development program which essentially means Nakajima or Kobayashi Komui.
Im just waiting for them to do something new that i *need* then i will be more than willing to change... :D
Yirg ?
Before Ubuntu that was probably true - its change now and LinuxMint has changed things even more. I saw a review of Windows 7 vs LinuxMint 7 - basically MS got blown out of the water with incompatibility issues.
Not comfortable using it as a main OS when I've never used it before, but I may do that when I have XP running again. Set it up on another HDD.
I knew him
You rang? I already answered but where is he from?
Hehe. I think I come here to often whining that I can't get something to work to be convincing.
With a liveCD or USB stick you install nothing it runs entirely from the CD so there is no risk or disk partitions.
Don't worry, I think perhaps I'll leave it.
Who is Joerg anyway?
I can only remember some video issues.
You can't leave it. You need to know. I need to know who he is now
hehe, a fellow of infinite jest...
Is this to do with the rumoured tennis podcast?
I prefer Who's on first
Okay, well... I'll leave it in your capable hands :)
Joerg Zander?
Ah F1 minute!
He is German so Kathi must have a better idea than me how to pronounce it
Yes. It's cut now though.
I don't know if that worked: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/j-rgzander-mp3
Jörg Zander (born February 15, 1964 in Ratingen) is a German Formula One car chief designer.
Zander graduated from Cologne University in 1990 before joining Toyota. After a brief period working in Touring Cars he returned to Toyota to work on the Formula One project and in 2003 moved to the BAR Formula One team.
In September 2005, Zander was recruited by the Williams team to replace outgoing Chief Designer Gavin Fisher who was sacked earlier in the year as a result of the team's poor performances. Zander worked alongside Chief Aerodynamicist Loïc Bigois, under the supervision of Technical Director Sam Michael.
In March 2006, Zander resigned from the Williams team due to personal reasons, and immediately joined the BMW Sauber team as Chief Designer, accountable to Technical Director Willy Rampf.
In July 2007, it was announced he had agreed to join the Honda Racing F1. Zander was immediately suspended and then joined Honda.[1] Zander continued in his role with the Brawn GP team, following the management buy-out in March 2009 of the Honda F1 operation, but left the team on 19 June 2009.[2]

next time then
Evening all. Looooooooong day today. Am knackered. :P
Thanks Kathi.
Same! Kids are fun but tiring.
How are you?
James Allen says there will be no refuelling from next year, i guess this is part of the long term costs saving...
http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/06/25/fota-making-all-the-running-now/
Aw man.
Boo.
He often gets stuff wrong in commentry, why can't he get this one wrong?
It could make the racing better as teams optimise their cars for different parts of the race...
How does it save any money, they will still have to stop at least once per race for tyres?
I would have thought you would have wanted no refuelling - Timo is really good at driving a fuel-heavy car!
He didn't do much in Monaco (Still love ya Timo)
The refuling rigs are apparently very expensive to transport around, especially for the flyaways..
the also require a team of people to service and maintain.
Pit stop strategies are one of the biggest part of the race though, even with the weights being given out after qualifying I just still think we need refuelling :(
Theory is they should have less pit crew!
We need to hear more of your voice
True, but if we get overtaking on the track instead of the pits we will all win...
This season would have been awful without the pitstops.
But it'll just be like Single Tyre races, they'll just get a bit processional. Theres a distinct lack of overtaking in F1 and when it does happen its because heavier cars and lighter cars are next to each other.
no panel
But all pit crew are engineers, so they wont have any less
They don't have to ship two dozen fuel rigs round the world
You could use a distorter, sound like a robot and come on as Mrs stig?
But they will still be able to refuel during practice/quali, so is there a different mechanism for that?
The fuel ones are there just to make sure the rigs dont explode when they use them i belive
I am so disappointed :(
It doesnt have to be done fast, so a syphon pump will do the trick ;)
ahh. thanks!
Yes they just gravity feed it then because there is no need for speed.
Of course they still need fuel rigs, just not high capacity ones that as you say are expensive beasts (capital costs, service and transport)
Rachel hasn't volunteered yet.
Being on sidepodpanels is great fun ask anyone. Except Kathi cos she hasn't been on one. Yet. The next series starts in 7 or 8 weeks and there is going to be an all female panel as we are fed up listening to all the men of sidepodcast giving their opinions on everything. So once you decide you want to be on it put your name on the wiki page.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/All+female+sidepodpanel
The usual, charge up your phone before you start as well.
You say that like I don't have a choice.
Choice? We dont give you a choice.
Yes you do, you can choose to do it!
Now you are getting to understand sidepodcast. This community loves a volunteer. Even if they need a little bit of encouragement.
Paul ( I think) said it was available last night but surely that is not the url you want for a tennis podcast. You want netcast.net
I think Neil Buchanan should be the new FIA President. Every meeting can be an episode of Art Attack, and The Head from the same show can replace Bernie.
argh. OK. I'm sorry if I'm rubbish. Also, If I manage to destroy the wiki in my attempt to edit the page
I'll keep an eye on it.
(If you do of course, I will kill you)
I believe Christine has backups
Weekly.
It's taken too
Interesting James also said that USF1 want toyota engines, and that Manor might not be able to enter without the budget cut.
Cosworth need 3 teams to make it pay... But haven't they all got deposits?
Wiki looks OK to me and your name is on the list so you must have done it right. Lots of people worry about not being funny enough or knowledgable enough but the shows are just a bit of fun and even the most nervous people (Lou) really enjoy them. Ispent weeks talking Lou into doing one and she eventually hosted a show.
The price teams pay Cosworth epends on how many teams use them. So if only one or two teams use them the price goes up
Course if you can't think of anything to say, just say little. You don't have to be funny. Be knowledgeable, thats what gets you points.
And by complimenting Franck of course.
Sounds like a bit of a risk if they other teams are doing them for £6million or whatever the fee is.
Cosworth might get done over twice in one season by F1
I dont think anyone is going to want to be on my team if i go on!
didnt gavin do that and get a tumbleweed of silence in expectance of points? :P
I'm on -2,000,000. And the amount of times I'm bound to compliment Klien
I did too. Mine didn't make the edit though
I would love to site next to Donnelly when he was driving. Another on the list of drivers who should have spent their careers keeping Schumacher under control but didn't.
Toyota makes a lot of sense... however I don't see how that is happening. They already have Williams but I would love for USF1 have a Toyota that has been racing instead of a Cosworth which plans have only been recently dusted off.
Also, a future question for an Aside with Joe... who is the Mole on Grand Prix dot com? He has some interesting rumors about other Americans wanting to get into F1. LINK: http://www.grandprix.com/mole/mole21554.html
Mr C has threatened to take charge of the pinger for this show so that Christine can take part.
If you are stuck for an answer to anything there will be lots of us in the comments making suggestions and even the gobbiest of us have been totally stumped for answers before now.
Good. :)
The word 'little' will get me points? ;)
Have you volunteered yet
Haha, would be good to ask but i dont expect an answer.
Even though i think it is andrew benson
If so, there's the Mr C's crushes page on the wiki!
A bit difficult to make a 100% US team with Japanese engines
Works for me
Evening!
Yes.. Itching for a chance... maybe i should phone into a digest or parade lap as a warm up...
Unlikley. It depends who is in charge of the pinger as to which words get you points.
Well, Cosworth are british, so they weren't before!
He is the BBC mole not the grandprix.com mole
They race in Bashcar so it would give the masses something they know?
Get some practise in. You can even leave a voicemail as practise for that.
I think he is both.
the GP mole has been a lot quieter since andrew got his new job...
I know nut Cosworth is associated with Ford which can let people think it is American.
I really hate voicemail...
some might call it a phobia...
Voicemail is the best. Go on go on go on go on go on. Go on.
Go on.
True. I forgot about that...
I hate voicemails too. Whenever I hear, 'The caller is unavailable right now' I want to throw it into a brick wall
I think they will be more American than Force India is Indian. Not by much though.
Grrr I really, really hate voicemail... Grrr
See, you're already tremayning!
Though to be fair, for the season review show, I did have to call it twice cos I talked too much.
That wouldnt be hard...
But if everything is built in America, American crew, and American drivers...
You cannot be serious
Steven as the comments were loading a comment of yours came up on the screen in reply to some stuff I was saying in the comments this morning.
Can you explain to me the Williams/Toyota thing please? I don't really know what I'm talking about, I just have a strange memory that files things away that I've read but I don't remember whether it's the truth or my strange interpreted abridged version of it that I'm remembering.
James also says 3 Marquee tests may be held per year at Barcelona, Silverstone and Monza, to help delopment, and engage with fans and sponsors.
That would be really great, i would love to go!
Also, I hope the iplayer people are happy, I was planning on catching up on my wimbledon now but they've spoilt the results of ALL the matches now as I've loaded the page by showing me them set by set....
You have to leave a Tremayning voicemail saying you hate voicemail
Ooh, that would be most excellent.
hehe, i will try, maybe tomorrow :D
As part of the Toyota engine deal Williams must run a driver from the Toyota young driver program. As far as I know only two drivers in the program qualify for a super license - Nakajima and Kobayashi Komui. Ofthe two Nakajima is the best option.
Nakajima's younger brother Daisuke is doing British F3 this year so we may see him in two or three years as he is rumoured to be better than Kazuki.
Infact the more i read that article the better it gets...
more engagement with fans, 12 10 8 points system....
post 2013 engines to be Kers integrated (that makes me hopeful for wankels)
Okay, but this wasn't always the case was it? Pre 2007 (???) they didn't have a driver from the programme and could still have the engines?
Why do they put up with it, I mean Nakajima kinda sucks.....
He's not that bad, and he is getting better. Its also good for sponsors like Phillips and RBS that want a presence in Japan
Not to mention i guess all his engines are paid for by Toyota and the other one will likely be subsidised.
Because the engine price is suitably reduced
If FOTA want to engage with fans, they should at least take a look at their own website - Ron Dennis is still in the picture on the front page.
Toyota, BMW, and Mazda sponsor a lot of racing stuff over here. Toyota sponsors a few IRL races and both BMW and Mazda sponsors racing clubs and amature and professional series.
From their standpoint and marketing aims, a Toyota or a BMW engine agreement makes sense.
Better yet they need a better looking website.
He is the ghost of Christmas past :D
Williams only switched to Toyota in 2007 and Nakajima started the year as th test driver to get some experience
Okay. I'm glad I didn't just imagine this whole set up though!! I was a bit worried this just happened in my head.....
This is a strange sport, there's a lot to take in at once. You all seem to think this is normal so maybe I should just accept it as so.
Hehehe... Its not that bad...;)
Oh score!! Plus one for Alison's trivia skillz!!
Why, you should take part in the Pitlane Fanatic Quiz....
Text from Aut... AUTOSPORT: "Max Mosely says he may yet stand again because he believes FOTA has misled the media."
I had retired it... but
Unnamed laughter powered aircraft...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76529
You have got to be joking me..
Dont know what to believe.
Think I'm going to block Max as if he doesn't exist from now on. May refrain me from actually not hurting someone.
Didn't the throw out Wurz to get Nakajima into that seat? I do remember Nakajima's first race... so do half of Williams' mechanics. LINK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B222baxfSc
One of the things that hooks people into this sport is that it has so many levels. Once you grasp the racing there is the technial stuff, the politics and the business. And of course all are interwoven and what is said in public rarely reflects reality. It takes a very long time to get close to understanding it.
Everyone feels like what happend in F1 can;t be real from time to time.
How can I forget? Funniest thing I've ever seen!
Soap operas and professional wrestling have nothing on F1 politics.
It is a very interesting way to spend a couple of hours on a Wednesday evening / morning
If this was wreslting, they'd be in a Hell In Cell match, the length of this feud
Hahaha my one identified year was only remarkable because I never know any names, or dates or places. I can't do pub quizzes at all!!
Oh god...
Except for the guy he knocked over who spent the next year in recovery :(
unless FOTA moves to address his complaints, then the deal that was agreed on Wednesday could collapse
Oh, great.
This week was all about fastest finger first
Quelle surprise! I am only surprised how quickly it happened.
Well, the peace was great while it lasted...
Wurz started the season in the seat with Nakajima as the test driver and Wurz retired before the end of the season
HE thinks THEY have been misleading people.... That's just pure cheek!
Naaah, i loved it when FOTA wanted a breakaway, it made me happy, not sure why
Only rumours at the moment isn't it?
In that day I was sick twice and i could barely see without the world spinning; I knew F1 'peace' was making me feel ill
Why do we bother? Come on people, vote with your feet! There's loads of other motorsports out there that don't have all this rubbish!
We.want.to.see.cars.on.track. Nothing else! If we wanted a soap opera we'd watch Home and Away! Sheesh!
I am hopeless at the modern stuff too, Can't remember who won what when where. Can't even remember who's pn first
I don't know about you, but it looked like to me he was more pushed out of the door that left it on his on accord.
It was a very sudden leaving, i was quite surprised he left half way through a season.
I think Max may just have blown it. Had he waited till October FOTA could not have organised a breakaway. Now they can.
BTCC, erm, ooer, BTCC, oooh, Formula 2, erm, BTCC.
I agree - has Max not caught on - the majority of fans, teams, drivers and circuit owners want him out!
Absolutely. No-one makes a comeback to racing after being out as long as he was and quits before the end of the season
evening all :) i hope everyone's thursday has been alright :)
New Mac book feature for everyone to enjoy.
LINK: http://vimeo.com/5319991
Thursdays are evil.
It was, then Max ruined it.
ITS ALL MAX'S FAULT FOR RUINING MY DAY. I want it to be Saturday now :(
mine has been better than expected, but still worse than the rest of the week. so yes, as you know, i agree :D
I hope Bernie takes out a hired hit on Max, he just needs to go away. On the day when the it seemed the sport could move on he decides otherwise.
my morning was exhausting, but the rest of the day was greaaaaaaaaat :D
if there is something i have learnt while watching f1 and following the politics it's that things are rarely solved that quickly :P i was expecting more, tbh i'm rather enjoying the politics again :D
oh and the ringing in my ears was gone this morning when i woke up, phew :)
I can't even remember what's happened in my own life.... You were talking about races at the end of last season and I was swearing blind that I'd had to get up at like 4am to watch them when no. Normal afternoon races!
Honestly though, I've only been following this freak show, sorry I mean sport, for a couple of months properly. My knowledge = zero.
brilliant!
How ever much i don't think he's good for the sport....i don't think killing him would make it better...
I don't want him dead, just out the way....
'till October time, if it's possible.
Home & Away? Why would i watch anything like that when F1 is twice as fun? And with massive corporations, twice as interesting?
heheheh
It was until http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76529
Get Richard Branson to sort him out.... Send him up on a shuttle or something, he can come back in a year or two....
I agree, i cant see why he is doing it now, unless he has absolute faith that they signed something yesterday they cant get out of...
Cant we just selotape his mouth or something?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I thought Max leaving was too good to be true!
Then peel it off quickly?
Is Mr C missing all the fun?
Or has he assumed the *facepalm*
I say keep it on, so it shuts him up
That is good. You need to wear ear protection in future and kick up a row if there is something stopping you do it. You only get to ruin your ears once
No peel it off, cos it will be fun *evil laugh* then selotape it back stuff.
So what better way to learn than finding out answers at a quiz. And you were right the first time. It is a freak show.
For who?
Max.
Something I said on twitter, dunno if you lot listen to Fighting Talk, but my interperation of a possible Question 2.
Question : A sports star as a toy.
Answer : Max Mosely as a Boomerang. Goes away then comes back, goes away then comes back
That is awesome and explains why I have a PC. It stays where I leave it and doesn't fly back to Steve Jobs if I do something he doesn't like with it.
must....resist... unmentionable!
We did suggest that on the last series of sidepodpanel. Send him and Bernie up and forget to program the return.
i shouldn't have to do that again, but i'll make sure we at least leave enough time to run a longer extension lead away from the speakers if i can't get any ear plugs..
But only Luca was there yesterday.
what happened?
but FOTA made a bloc entry before, maybe he signed for all of them?
either that or got everything signed quickly.
I watched you all doing the quiz last week I think, I got three!! I was quite proud of three though! Plus I spotted the differences....
well... fota's response could be interesting :)
You get points for saying things like that?? I can certainly do that..... The actual knowing of things is what I struggle with!
Max (FIA) vs FOTA
Max: We will announce the entry list tommorrow.
Fota: We are going ahead with the breakaway, if the FIA choose to accept our conditions, we will re-evaluate.
Max: We will sue.
Fota: Same as before.
Max: these loons will come around once we sue them
Fota: Same as before.
Max: I will stand for election again
Fota: We will announce details of the series later this week
Max: I surrender unconditionally.
Fota: We win! and will stay in F1
Max: Then again I might not.
i spent the 2 hours yesterday evening (during the rock concert) standing directly behind 2 very large, and very loud speakers and when i got home i noticed a very slight ringing in my ears. was just saying that it was gone this morning, which is good.
It would appear that the letter was written to Luca. I wonder who leaked it.
He doesn't have authority to sign for other teams
whaaaaat...
Least it's gone now though :)
I can't do spot the difference. I got 4 this week and that is my best ever
Luca?
Some ploy by Luca to make us hate him more?
silly lou
hehe it wasn't as bad as the headache i had :P but that was from getting way to hot, and doing way to much work in one day without breaks and water. however it was an awesome awesome day, it's a shame that tidying up is always really sad.
Should have worn ear plugs or stood somewhere else. Never mind - what you experienced was what's known as a temporary threshold shift in your ears.
That's good, its easy to damage your hearing.
F1 Distraction:
Michael Jackson Has possibly had a heart attack and was discovered not breathing by paramedics...
Crikey.
silly techie that ordered the radios but forgot to think that someone would have to do the smoke machine by the speakers, unable to wear earplugs as they had the headphones to the radios on ;)
Went to that CART oval race at Rockingham. First motor race that wasn't touring cars, so no ear plugs. BIG mistake. Ears were ringing for two weeks, and I wish I was joking..
You should listen to some of the podpanels. There are no correct answers. It's a bit like QI. You have to say something that appeals to the person in charge of the pinger. It is also best not to worry to much about the question that was asked. If you have an answer that can be tortured into being remotely relevant you should use it.
All previous sidepodpanels can be found at http://www.sidepodcast.com/category/sidepodpanel/ Consider it homework
I blame Max. #maxout
when you're doing the smoke and lights for a rock concert back stage + running around like a headless chicken finding the bands and getting them on stage and don't have enough time to get in special headsets you have to do your best. luckily i was behind the speakers, could have been much worse if i was in front of them
lol!
Can't you wear earplugs under the headset
I would hope it wasn't the F1 news...
Real racing engines are very different beasts to touring cars an the like
NO! NO! NO!
DON'T DO IT STEVEN DON'T DO IT!!!!!!
not if you what to hear the radio over the noise. i did try, i promise.
I found this out very quickly.
I expect Speedway bikes to be murderous as well.
there not too bad...
With a roof closed?
Here is link to max's letter to luca...
Love the the heading "Just When You Thought It Was Safe to Leave the Bomb Shelter"
http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2009/06/25/467226.html
I went to an event, wearing plugs didn't cross my mind, I have been to a couple of MX tracks and they seemed a bit worse, didn't wear plugs there either though...
Oh right then, should be good then at the Millenium Stadium, can't wait now.
Awww crap.
I mean...
Oh, awww crap!
Sounds Good :D
might want to watch what everyone else is doing, i expect that a stadium that big might reverberate a little bit more than Poole Speedway!
Flibster, Have you seen this http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76529
Do I really want to?
Haha, I've been to watch the Newcastle Diamonds, hardly the best thing to compare it too.
Good idea to watch, best safe than sorry.
No. It is more of the same. It just arrived first
I'm just going back to my playroom I think - no PC's are switched on in there and swear. A lot.
bless him!
am curious why autosport named: www.racefax.com in full. they rarely, if ever quote another domain name?
I would love Ari to be president. It has been suggested before and I would love it to happen. I think Ari should strap Max into the passenger seat and take him on to a stage and force him to quit.
I meant to check that out. The only racefax I ever heard of were a Formula Ford team in the 80s.
Stuff it - Someone call me when F1 pulls it's head out of it's own exhaust.
I can't be bothered with it anymore. I'm going to watch Cricket. At least I know nothing will happen in that. At all. Ever.
conditions of use? It's a subscription website so they're probably reluctant to let people print material which can be read for free, and would rather they paid for it.
Evening all !
great James ! telling it like it really is !
any one else fed up to the back teeth with it all ?...... I'm sure I'll be jumping ship soon altogether !
Not the cricket.
I am very close to that point I think...
And, my friend, what appears to be wrong with that?
and if MotoGP in Assen is as good this weekend as it was in Barcelona I'm afraid I'll default to it completely !!
Urm... Sky News says Michael Jackson has passed away... woah.
I wanted to watch the tennis! I'd be in a tennisy world right now if iplayer hadn't ruined the scores as soon as I opened it.....
ah, didn't realise it was subs only. cheers.
Cricket Politics are also good.
More sporadic though, not a full time hobby.
Damnit.
Bowls. Crown Bowls then....
Apparently Michael Jackson has died....
Cricket's stupidly political!! Okay so everything takes years to unfold and happens over tea and shortbread but there's a lot of wrangling!
Ahh, who could forgot that England v Pakistan game
*Checks bbc news*
All unconfirmed at the moment
They say he was found not breathing, has been taken to hospital but they can't find out if he was revived or not
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8119951.stm
yup. BBC says he's still in hospital
Having read the article again though, they're just saying "US media have reported that...."
Sky news is going mad about it and saying Retuers are reporting it too although I cant see anything on the reuters website yet
No one else is reporting it as a fact other than Sky.
If they have this wrong, it will be interesting.
I've just seen a website thing too, from a new site, but i'm not sure how credible it is
A bunch of men stand in a field for a week and occasional a ball appears. A week later they decided no-one won.
...But you get to stand in the sun!
And these days they get it done in 3 hours when they want to :P
Moto GP is great but you are not looking at the politics there. If you get obsessed by it rather than F1 you will probably findthe same kind of stuff.
And we have a local team that does well. 2 out of 6242352424 is not bad.
can i ask a daft question...
everybody expected max to change his mind. no-one was naive enough to believe it was for real. so why are we angry at f1 today?
we should be patting ourselves on the back for being 100% spot on.
I was naive.
Im not angry, I am too busy laughing about it all!
Because we hoped that finally things had changed. Sadly, they haven't :(
I'm not angry.
I don't care enough anymore to be angry.
He didn't even leave it 12 hours though.... I need time to breathe in between rounds!
I did say last night that I hoped they had a signed copy of his resignation letter though.....
ditto
did we? there must 50+ comments yesterday on the site saying "don't believe a word of it".
being right doesn't solve anything, though.
:)
They had one of those in 2004. He un-resigned
well I'm naive then because I really thought that was it this time...he's called my bluff for sure !!
I should have trade marked 'Max's promises come ready salted'
Okay, but this wasn’t always the case was it? Pre 2007 (???) they didn’t have a driver from the programme and could still have the engines? {Comment
#697}
Pre-2007, Williams had Cosworth engines. For the first part of 2007, none of Toyota's drivers were eligible for a Superlicence (Kazuki became eligible mid-2007).
it kinda does. if we were partying in the streets, then we'd be crestfallen, right?
I believe I said something along the lines of
'I'll believe that when it happens'
Well there are a heck of a lot of people that did too. I was skeptical as nothing was in writing, but I was hopeful too...
but this is max? he has previous and then some.
I'm on the AP wire right now, they are running an update from the LA Times. Here is the link: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_MICHAEL_JACKSON?SITE=SCCHA&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
We need a new hashtag: #MaxBackIn ...
Maybe we could trick him out of office.... Tell him it's a promotion and that he gets to be supreme ruler of the universe then give him purely ceremonial roles in everything
#maxbax
We trying reverse psychology now?
If FOTA want to engage with fans, they should at least take a look at their own website – Ron Dennis is still in the picture on the front page. {Comment #700}
Maybe he's there in case FOTA think he needs wheeling out to duel Max again?!?
Or simply the Master
:D
I think he prefers F1 politics.. its more fun.
Best tactic would be to highlight how cricket is a great opportunity due to the months of calm between the politics. I am sure he could fix that...
I have never seen so many channels have their coverage dominated by a static shot of a web page.
Any one see this rumour that Michael Jackson committed suicide.
http://michael.jackson.swellserver.com/news/top_stories/musician-overdose.php
I say we kidnap him and put him on a strange island, Madagascar, strange talking things there, like Max.
:)
which site is it?
yes I know he had previous but for some raison d'etre I thought this time might be the 'real deal' (a la Dickinson)......
Thats a fake news website, where you enter certain parameters to create a news report
Does this involve launching him into space on a trip to the ruling planet?
TMZ I think
TMZ, viewaBLE ON BBC, SKY and untill a min ago, CNN
hehe.
anyone for a breakaway?
new keyboard put the caps lock button in the wrong place...
I would like to put him on those islands where the Komodo dragons live, preferably an uninhabited one.
Nah, McVities HobNobs were good enough.
Oh, from F1, yeah.
Hah. Maybe he'll think he'll trick everyone and actually tell the truth one of these days. Alas, I fear that day is not today.
On the "B" Ark perhaps?
yes please :)
You want him to become there leader, lead them across the oceans and replace the drivers with lizards?
Is that not Komodo Island or is that my imagination
I said earlier, he's a boomerang that guy. Goes away, then comes back. Goes away, then comes back. Why can't they be straight so they just go away?
Then David Icke could return to the BBC to do the F1 coverage.
One of the Indonesian Islands
here here put Max on Madagascar with King Julian...he'll sort him out !!
I just checked twitscoop and it is all Michael Jackson. Apparently though 5 hours ago Farah Fawcett died
yes Farrah passed away earlier today. RIP a female icon of the seventies for sure.
I find it interesting that sky are reporting he is dead, when cnn have gone no further than hospitalised.
That one is true!! I heard it on radio 4 so it must be....
Them Komodo dragons occur on several Indonesian islands, some inhabited others not. They are known to prey on humans so local inhabitants live in huts built on stilts.
I'm pretty sure it's close to confirmed (even if unofficial) that he's been taken to hospital but it's hard to confirm that he's dead unless someone announces it. Even if he wasn't breathing when he was taken to hospital, no-one knows what's happened once he's got there.... Tbh though he's probably dead or (more) brain damaged.
We'll we know he doesn't have any shame.
This is starting to get worse from an F1 fans prespective than an unmentionable thing that happen one year ago however cannot mention on this website.
I didn't know they were on more than one island
Text from Aut… AUTOSPORT: “Max Mosely says he may yet stand again because he believes FOTA has misled the media.” {Comment #709}
Silly Max! Doesn't he understand that in making that statement, he's implicitly admitting misleading everybody?
Besides, I see nothing misleading in FOTA's description of events (with the exception of the last sentence - I never saw any side promoting the £20-£30m budgets a "Nineties budget" implies). Everything else written is true and nearly all of it matches the FIA version of events (with a few parts the FIA has not officially commented upon in a reliable fashion).
If being truthful is enough to break the agreement, the agreement was never valid.
The really silly bit is that Max, having made the U-turn in 24 hours flat, has given FOTA an easy way out - by re-starting the breakaway they'd so recently laid aside. IT may be delayed by a couple of weeks but that's all. Had Max waited until mid-August for this bombshell, he could have destroyed the breakaway.
MJ was planning 50 concerts? back-to-back?
RT @serafinowicz: MJ will honour his London dates, but as the Thriller zombie.
yup
You missed that?
Not sure if it was back-to-back as in consecutive nights, but they were very close together.
It wasn't going to work even if he had made it, he'd either
a) Got bored
b) Got ill with all the work
Can't Uri Geller bend a spoon to help MJ?
i knew he was doing some concerts...
Ari was an awesome driver. He was lik Colin McRae. Massively spectacular and shouldn't have been fast but he just carried speed. He was always the fan's favourite and has bee an MEP for several years so understands politics. I had forgotten about him as a candidate but he is now my choice.
Go Ari.
how could anyone expect to do 50 nights?
who bought that many tickets?
I want to write the obit for this one.
... Michael is survived by his long time alleged lover, Billy-Jean.
A Ridiculous amount of people.
Several including Komodo as you mention, Padar, Flores, Rintja, Gili Mota, and Owadi Sami.
Komodo was actually uninhabited until the sultan of Sumbawa started to deport criminal there early last century.
Flores is of course were the hobbit was found.
Amazing they survive on so many islands
Fans...
To be honest going to see MJ at the O2 makes a lot more sense to me than going to Glastonbury, and lots of people are doing that...
I didn't know Kathi knew anythig about rallying.
They were, and then they moved some of them to next year (dates)
:D
They are protected now since they bring in tourists but in the past the Dutch slaughtered them on a mass scale.
ahh, ok. that seems more reasonable. ta.
Sky have egg all over there smug faces... he is in a coma
Considering this weekend's Glastonbury line-up, you may be right. Blur being the exception but I'm seeing 'em next week. (oops, let me pick up that name I just dropped)
La times have changed from coma to died now
My buffering BBC feed said LA Times : In a Coma, refreshed, LA Times : Singer has died.
MJ doesn't live at neverland anymore?
i appear to know nothing about this man.
I would have thought on most islands they would have been slaughtered before anyone thought about protecting them
Had to sell it when he went bankrupt
It is probably better that way
Yes, but You cant report someone has died, then say he is no longer in a coma, he has died.
LOL at BBC:
"... The T-M-Zee, or rather, T-M-Zed Website..."
Best career move he will ever make.
He went bankrupt and had to sell it...
Sky not noted for their accuracy, unlike other more reputable news gathering organisations who check their facts first.
This is sad. I love his older stuff. Thriller was awesome and still is...
Didn’t the throw out Wurz to get Nakajima into that seat? I do remember Nakajima’s first race… so do half of Williams’ mechanics {Comment #713}
Wurz decided to retire of his own accord and let Kazuki drive one race early. As far as I know, there wasn't any commercial pressure involved, except that the first-line replacement had to be Kazuki.
Sky has become Fox News UK...
how do you own the beatles back catalogue and manage to go bankrupt?
Some rich fans purchased it and gave it back to him though.
well they were right, i just dont think the way they went about it was at all proffesional
LA Times and BBC now claiming he's died.
what?
He sold that too. He spent all his money!
oh his estate will make a fortune, more than Elvis
BBC claiming LA times saying he's dead, they aren't saying it themselves
He had to sell that too.
It's like reporting Max is going then he is staying then
Touche
That's a good point, but these islands are really rather isolated (literally only found beginning of last century, but usually a large animal on a small island falls prey to human predation. I think the first scientific description was only about 1912.
his 'friends' certainly helped
questionable other decisions?
Is this Mr C from 2002 or something?
Who owns 'em now?
You start off by being mental
Bubbles had a heavy banana habit.
The AP still hasn't reported what condition he is in.
hehe, he gets the mac and f1 news...
am baffled. i knew none of this.
:D :P
I be off now, see you all tomorrow. Have a nice night.
Poor advice, settling lawsuits, doing things like replacing his children's toys every day with brand new ones. It all adds up.
night rg.
Just as well for the dragons they were not found 50 or 60 years earlier
I definatly have egg on my smug face, but there is no excuse for journalism like that.
*goes back to freeview 84*
Does anyone know where I'd be able to find an entry list for the 1987 formula ford festival?
Well I'm going to try and sleep now... doubt if I will :(
By the way, I don't mean to sound callous and unsympathetic, but I am so thats how it comes out.
Good night, I am also off have a 7am computer training workshop to help organize!
hahahaha, good luck with that
Even I knew this and I have no interest whatever,
night buddy.
Night RG
what's freeview 84? only have a basic version in silly transmission blackspot
The Thriller video too.
My favourite quote about MJ comes from a review of his book "Moonwalk" - it said something like - lavishly illustrated with over 80 black and white photographs. Black before Thriller, white after. :D
see ya rich.
Night sleepers!
Meh. Just ask Steven Roy.
hahah!
My sister thinks he's feigning his own death as part of some elaborate publicity stunt.... Which tbh I think he'd be mental enough to do!
CNN
Night Gavin, RG & Rich
Phone Brands Hatch. Which club runs the festival? BRSCC, BRDC?
You are the one who wants to be a journalist
Night.
This BBC anchor is a real fan isn't he.
BRSCC
:D
GOD
Well i say that...it may be an MSV event now, but i'd put my money on it being BRSCC
Ah lovely. Major argument next door. Lots of lovely words, crying, and banging of objects.
I'm disappointed. You mean you don't know this stuff?
I got that feeling with the Martin Donnelly comment earlier. Is your dad's pulse down to double figures yet
Night Rich
Oh by the way, before I go, someone remind me tomorrow afternoon I need to ask Mr C something. Don't have enough time tonight.
Don't mince your words, Flibster, say what you mean.
Not sure. He was contemplating taking laxatives though as it may have allowed him to let go of the seat.
Courtesy of Bill Hicks I believe, a timeless line
Evening all
Spending a year dead for tax reasons? (that's the second Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy reference this evening from me)
I have to say that was my thought. Ideal time just before a comeback tour. Best way to sell lots of tickets and merchandise
Mr C this filter thing works great - No Michael Jackson! :D
Oops, can't read my own posts now
When did this appear on Freeview? Their doctor is pretty good.
Yup. But it works so well for me.
heeeh!
But its sold out!
www.wikipedia.org - it's all the modern journalist needs.
I haven't memorised the whole entry list of 140 drivers or whatever but I do know which driver he is looking for and that some German drove in it
evening BC !
sorry if thats short of me..but it gets the message across !
hey! the people who beat us in the community awards last year, are on the bbc.
As good as insulting Christians and when they complain, say "Forgive me" :D
3, 4 months ago, its just 7 or 8-12 i think though
He sold out the tour within hours. People were queueing for days outside the O2 death rumours or otherwise....
Done that. :D
So much fun, confuses he hell out of them. :D
it worked very well until a certain someone shortened it to MJ
What? Who beat you? Where are they? Grrrrr
Is cool
oh.
bugger.
But he does have a new album coming out... so you may still be on to something
The eskimo lovers
a michael jackson fan forum.
oh yeah. they beat us too :(
so Hewitt and Murray both won? Glad i didnt try and stay awake!
CNN is brilliant, they replaced ad breaks with MJ songs...
I wonder if they'll do the thing they did with Elvis - playing film of him singing with his band playing live in front of the screen?
I forgot about them.
Hehe. Sorry, can't read that post.
Kathi,
How do you know how good Ari Vatenen was? You are not old enough.
But the kid is not my son..... Are these loons still pretending to run a serious news channel??
what's wrong with hewitt?...
i haven't thought this through.
Bah im heading off my laptop. grumble.
night all.
You have missed one or two things Amy. Sit down and hang on to your chair. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76529`
Amy is mean... (sorry Amy)
He's the best. BDA 1800. Whoa.
night sir.
Yahh... shoot... I can't remember. Sorry. I am pretty sure that Eddie Irvine won it. Other than that… sorry.
I shred all race records after twenty years. You would be amazed on how much paperwork gets accumulated up here.
:D
night
:D
Night Lukeh
The LA Times is calling it. Michael is dead. LINK: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/06/pop-star-michael-jackson-was-rushed-to-a-hospital-this-afternoon-by-los-angeles-fire-department-paramedics--capt-steve-ruda.html
He was the best at that time certainly and a worthy candidate as best ever. Proper rallying with rear wheel drive. I am just surprised Kathi knew anything about him
night lukeh
night lukeh and any others I've missed hopping betwixt tv and pc !
rofl :D
bbc called it too.
betwixt! Candidate for word of the day.
Michael Jackson Has possibly had a heart attack and was discovered not breathing by paramedics… {Comment #778}
That's sad news :(
ABC reporting it too.
BBC have called it
Thanks for your response God
CNN called it to
Crowds gather at the hospital
Farrah Fawcett and MJ on the same day......
Sorry - but this is so funny.
The LA Times report added after announcing that he's dead:
You don't say?!
God,
Is it not about time Max (& Bernie) were making the big trip downstirs?
I think I saw a report about him on TV before the '03 Dakar. Not sure.
It's going to be some comeback
the perils of rapidly updating the same story..
!!!
Might get out of refunds with force majeure
There was also "that" trip up Pikes Peak
:D
I didn't think of the Dakar. His rallying career was too long ago for you.
Like Ratzenberger and Senna, which one will be remembered?
no thank you I don't want to see them in my after life......purgatory all the way for M & B !
The famous one.
Here is link to max’s letter to luca…
Love the the heading “Just When You Thought It Was Safe to Leave the Bomb Shelter”{Comment #805}
It could also have been called "Just When You Thought Silverstone Had Done All The Motorised Displays"...
That's what I'm afraid of. :(
You never hear of Pikes Peak nowadays. That used to be a big event every year.
isitmayyet "MTV is going nuts with the Michael Jackson videos, marking the first time since 1993 that they have shown a music video."
Someone sent me a text today, apparently this was in The Guardian
The Bible, twitter-style
Angel gets Mary up the duff
Jesus chills for 30 years
Gets messiah complex and is topped
Comes back
Then I saw his face, now I'm a believer
Your welcome and again sorry that I couldn't fulfill your request to its' fullest.
I am trying to update my database to an all-digital-format for records keeping. You would be amazed with how much red tape I have to go through up here, especially with American HIPAA laws. I have a few thousand people working on it at the moment so we don't have to shred anything up here anymore.
Thanks for your understanding and continued worship.
The G-man.
Yup. Farrah was a true star.
Ever since my mum heard about MJ's death, she's been looking at ebay. Apparently, someone bought 2 tickets for his tour for £9000 a few days ago!
:P
True. But you only need to watch that video to enjoy rallying
and babe
Cue Monkees lyrics
oh dear.
Ouch
If they have received the tickets.. all they can do is get a refund from the venue. :D
The sellers £342.75 *after paypal and ebay fees* will be safe.
:D
Ive been there... Wrong time of year though
What was your time? :D
everybody expected max to change his mind. no-one was naive enough to believe it was for real. so why are we angry at f1 today?
we should be patting ourselves on the back for being 100% spot on. {Comment #846}
Simply because something is predictable doesn't make it right.
The over under the media shows THAT poster is + 5,789,000,0000.
I think that scream you hear is the management of the O2 arena... how are they going to handle this?
i'm saying it does. it's wholly wrong. but it's not a massive surprise either?
loving the divine intervention on SPC am I !
I'm very disappointed. Nobody did the obvious one. Maybe because it is too obvious.
*not saying.
I didnt drive up it! Just had a walk from the freeway
One of my friends has tickets for the first week. She's gonna go mad.
Its a bit like warning someone not to touch a bomb. They then touch it and it explodes.
With the amount of scepticism around here yesterday i am quite surprised people had their hopes up that much.
that's what i was tryin' to say. you put it so much better.
walk? no i didnt walk up it i looked from the freeway. tis a big hill
Is talking to Uri Geller 20 mintes after the guy died, just a bit insensitive?
I heard no fat lady singing
It has someone to go before resolution I fear
We haven't had God on a live show yet
They told him about the heart attack live on air earlier.
hehe, you said it first, i should have added a credit with the Harvard system :D
Give it time. Maybe Giggles can fix that for us?
is it a replay? they talked earlier.
does SPC have one of those machines like Mark & Lard used to have?
?
news organisations are just...
they rang him back
that was as it was just being confirmed, at least they didnt do when they were in Sky knows the facts before they happen time...
oh jeez...
Changes your voice to sound really deep like a Voice of God, or really childlike.
can I book a q& a on that show then ?
Hey, I don't want to have to deal with them unless I have to OK. You guys have them for only a few years more. I would have them for an eternity.
- The Man upstairs.
oh, we do i think. hmmm.
I hate Sky news
It's like The Sun [paper] on TV
Happy to be your straightman :)
why aren't you watching the bbc then?
ha!
Will that make you ME?
:D
Surely putting Uri Geller in front of a camera at any time is insensitive. The man will never miss an opportunity to big himself up. I bet he is saying he felt something at the time and he knew it was bad.
you are equipped to take it Big G !
Ah the benefits of Liverpool.... You can't buy/sell it here without having your newsagent torched.
But I thought re-selling of such tickets was not allowed? I'd expect them to lose the lot, which is a bit harsh, even if they are MJ fans.
You can volunteer to be on the first all female sidepodpanel though. Just put your name on the wiki
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/All+female+sidepodpanel
Because the TV isn't on :)
BBC News site had a live news clip then fell over [due load I expect]
Someone mentioned Sky and my hackles just raised
That makes it all the more attractive to people buying it elsewhere...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/video_and_audio/news_channel_live/7459669.stm
all good for me.
You are the man upstairs. They are going down stairs. Your annoying mate will have them for eternity. That must be good for you.
Do it - DO IT
Prop. Rupert Murdoch
Prop. Rupert Murdoch
Your comment confuses me....
i've only watched it twice in the past year, and both times it featured someone flying a model aircraft.
i can imagine a whole bunch of micro-aviation news is being missed thanks to jacko.
I've no need to hear more, the guy died unfortunately
I didn't repect him [personally] alive but am sorry to hear the news
Thoughts go out for his family
okay. will have a think for the next parade lap. where's giggles when you needs him?
Probably negotiating with "the big cheese"
He hasn't live commented anything tonight. That's unusual
Hehe, You amuse me MrC :D
and GOD has... coincidence?
Yeah, was sad news but don't need to see endless coverage of it. Rolling news is for dipping in and out.
Ditto.
If Giggles was God he could fix a lot more things
The Daily Express now has something to fill the front pages once it runs out of Diana conspiracy stories.
On a more selfish note, Jacko made me miss writing a blog post.
Will. Never. Happen
From Twitter: @jonholmes1 #memoriesofmichael I'm looking back and remembering when he could clearly afford better lawyers than Gary Glitter.
Ouch
Harsh but fair
Good old Jon Holmes. I won't make any jokes about his height, even though it has become a force of hobbit.
News channels always do this. They get a sniff of something and they spend hours showing blurry film footage taken from a helicopter or sent from someone's mobile phone and interview randomers who have no idea what's going on.
Meanwhile, noone cares about Iran anymore... I was listening to someone earlier talking about how the digital news age meant people wouldn't forget the problems so easily. I think that's been disproved....
:D
Twitscoop now suggesting Jeff Goldblum has died. Not a day to be a celebrity
I would do a Parade Lap but I've had laryngitis for the last 2000 years. Plus after what happened to Jesus, I've stopped talking to humans... you guys take what I have to say way too seriously.
Thanks for the offer though.
People are probably making things up now.
Iran will keep rumbling along for the next few weeks and months.
We will lock all the hammers in the cupboard if that would make you feel better
:D
Things have to be actually happening now; with 24 hours to dissect a story from every angle, after 2 to 3 days there simply isn't anything left that hasn't been said, so the story gets dropped.
So, did you, or did you not talk personally to George W Gump?
He claims that you did.
I've got a good supply of no more nails left over from doing the kitchen if that helps?
I reckon that's the end of the coverage. It's been relegated to a tiny box on the BBC website. Things rarely move back up the website once they've slipped. Unless someone is assassinated or something I reckon it's over for them!
it changed in the early 90's. cnn were live streaming the war in iraq and sky one had the simpsons. i channel hopped during the ad breaks, everyone i know did the same.
Interesting that the BBC are reporting that MJ is dead but adding "reports say" to the summary.
Does anyone know where I’d be able to find an entry list for the 1987 formula ford festival? {Comment #966}
It's a long shot, but I'd email/phone someone at BRSCC HQ (they organise the Festival). I'm not sure who would be most appropriate, so I'll just give you the page with all the HQ contacts on.
Email might be better because the individual at the other end can simply type up the list at their convenience.
I hope for their sake he is dead. They just announced it to his friend live on air!!
Until someone can tell their people directly, that is...
i have no idea what the appropriate smiley is for that comment!
I believe people do still care about Iran despite another story taking precedent at this moment in time.........
Iran is still an ongoing issue.......
i have no idea what the appropriate smiley is for that comment! {Comment #1160}
Is the word for it "Yuck"? Because it sounds like a tasteless thing to do without proof :( xx(
It is one of the unfortunate things about modern culture that celebrity is over-rated and give too much priority. In the scheme of things whether or not Michael Jackson is dead is of no importance whereas Iran could have a major effect on th world
agree Ali...that would mirror my feelings on it !
I'm off to get some sleeps.
Night all!
g'night ;)
Does anyone know anything about the Richmond oval?
night
Talk about a one way conversation. Since I have laryngitis, I would write my answers. However he said he didn't have to time to read. I think he couldn't to be honest.
I was listening and kept on falling asleep. I think he took one of my head noods from falling asleep as an approval or indication to do something. I don't even remember what he was talking about. It was sometime in 2003-ish.
Why, what happened afterwards...
night Rachel
You should know, being omnipresent.
Night Rachel
I love that God gets a hard time on here. But Andy is right. You are supposed to be able to get inside his head. You would probably lonely in there though
Yeah, but I get kind of busy. To be honest with all the paperwork, meetings, and everything else... I really lose track.
get a laptop !
need a pa ?
Can you imagine the furore over whether God uses a Mac or WIndows
Not really. Steve Jobs has already sorted that one out.
He will definitely have an iPhone AKA the Jesus Phone though :)
umm, his name is steve jobs? Whatabout Lewis though?
I want to know if God really gave Jesus the same initials as John Cleese to insult Monty Python.
I have millions of PA and developing my technology infrastructure pretty well. I just have a hard time keeping up on things. I never imagine that there would be 6 billion of you guys down there. It is becoming harder and harder to keep up. Cut me some slack, I come onto a F1 site because I want to relax and follow what is going on in the sport. I need something to relax, especially after they banned smoking up here.
- G
as long as "we look on the bright side of life"....does it matter...?
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...thanks Big G for making me laugh through a s**t day !
:D
It matters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asUyK6JWt9U
We use Linux... that might be apart of the reason why we have so much trouble with our archieves.
Funny story, the name Jesus came to me while I was shaving and on a conference call with Gabrial. I cut myself and that is the first thing that came out of my mouth.
:D
ok I give up....lol....but laughing is AlWAYS the best cure ! (imo)
I hate to tell you all this but you're a little late with this news because Michael Jackson died almost two years agohttp://en.wikipedia.org/Wiki/Michael_Jackson_(writer)
well that didn't work. I give up
I hate computers
One last try.
