It was Ross Brawn's birthday yesterday, which I missed mentioning thanks to all my moaning about it being Monday. He had quite a good day though, announcing the first of his new drivers. What a way to celebrate the anniversary of your birth! More on that in a moment though. Meanwhile, here's what's on our minds:

  • This weekend's live F1 Debrief is now edited and available as a 30ish minute podcast. We discuss all the news we've missed, ask you for help with a few upcoming projects, and talk about the fun and games we had on the Wii over the weekend.
  • Rosberg was confirmed as Mercedes first driver, although I say first without knowing whether he is the number one or number two. It really depends on who will line up beside him, and at the moment the discussion seems to keep on coming back to Schumacher. Read all the views and add your own on the breakout thread here.
  • A few days ago, Vettel was asked what he thought about Button's move to McLaren and said he was surprised - just as everybody was! He thinks it will be interesting as McLaren are always strong, whilst Mercedes/Brawn will still be strong from their momentum this year. Either that, I suppose, or things will completely turn on their head again.

That's all for now. I'm thinking the guest daily posts will start either next week on Monday, or perhaps at the weekend, depending on the thoughts of those who have already volunteered. If you would like to have a go, you can sign up on the wiki, and there'll be more details along shortly.

Is it because of something train related?

Are you sure you wouldn't sleep easier if you told us about it?

Are you sure you wouldn't sleep easier if you told us about it?

Hehehe I'll tell you if you want :P It's not a very interesting story though. I was emotional about it at the time....

I was thinking about people giving up their seats on trains to old folk and it reminded me of this time a lady gave me her seat on the tube. At the time I was really appreciative as I'd been feeling quite faint and am sure I looked pretty unwell. Then she starts talking to me about how she felt when she was expecting her boys and asks if I've decided to find out if it's a boy or a girl.... I was mortified.

The worst part is that I was so embarrassed I couldn't bring myself to say I wasn't pregnant. The friend I was with then pipes up suggesting names. She still laughs about it now.... I must have cried for about a month.

Hah I was about 17 at the time and on holiday down in the big city with my best friend. I was quite paranoid the whole rest of the trip. Thing is, when I look back, I can't even fathom why she said it.... Must have been the way I was standing or something. I'm really not in the slightest bit fat.

That's tough at 17. It was probably just the pale look and the faintness and her jumping to conclusions

To an extent I would agree. You can lear the basics indoor but the circuit layouts inside restrict your options so if you only ever drove indoor then went to a proper track you would find that you still have a lot to learn. If you learn outside and then go inside you won't have very much at all to learn.

Fair enough - but establishing a base helps motivate you to write when you know people are reading it.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)24/11/2009 at 10:01

My F1 blog peaks at over 1,000-1,500 during a race weekend, but at the moment is between 20-50 per day. My other blog gets 1 hit per day!

    WOW! Thats some serious hit-age

Because I plug it like mad! I spend half an hour after posting linking it to various forums, Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon, Twitter, Facebook...

  • Alison24/11/2009 at 10:02

That is what I am like with mine. When I update twice a year, I mention it here because I like you guys to read it. And then I mention it to my mum because she likes to know what I'm up to. And then I don't mention it anymore.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)24/11/2009 at 10:02

By the way, I am referring to 'Making Up The Numbers' - See, it's easy ;)

  • Alex Andronov24/11/2009 at 10:02

When referring to meetings are you AA? I might adopt that, AA.

So AF are you planning on a new blog post soon?

Yeeeeesh. I only do the automatic thing on twitter usually and even that annoys me most of the time

  • Alex Andronov24/11/2009 at 10:05

Must Comment Monday or MCM as all the cool kids are calling it really hit for me yesterday. I wrote about 40 comments I think... And I still haven't caught up with all my blogs yet. Sorry if I flooded anyone's blog!

you can't. You're ALF. You don't get to choose a TL, you must use a TLA

my favourite TLA at work is "OOO" because I call it an ooo rather than a 'one on one'

  • Alex Andronov24/11/2009 at 10:17

What is a TL or a TLA?

I have no middle name hence my two initial centric view.

I had to make up 'Two Letter' just so it would fit my purpose. Three Letter Acronym would be better if I could have said Free Letter Acronym, because that would be the reverse of ALF

    Good evening. Any big news?

For some reason, I have just ordered two signed copies of James Allen's new book. I don't quite know why.

He will be signing stuff this saturday according to his blog:

'I will be at Motor Books at 13/15 Cecil Court, London WC2N 4AN (0207 836 5376), just off Charing Cross Road on Saturday 28th November from 3pm for a book signing so come down if you are in town doing your Christmas shopping."

Unfortunately I am on the other side of the world, but I was in London I'd probably check it out. ;)

you are within 1.5 hours (driving distance) of me. he is promising to sign any copies of his book before he sends them out if you pre-order so I don't have to travel to London

not sure why. i think postage was the same for one or two copies and my brain figured it made sense to get two then. ebay or xmas pressie for someone?

  • Amy24/11/2009 at 11:23

your main priority right now should be watching The Castle.

Where can you pre-order and how much.?

  • Lukeh24/11/2009 at 11:25

Today has gone far too slowly because of the window people. Being up and dressed since 7am is rubbish!

I'm going to order myself some lunch anyways from The World's Greatest Bakery™ nevertheless.

  • Alison24/11/2009 at 11:25

I might have to go through and delete some podcasts..... I've developed a backlog! I'm not sure there's any way I'm going to be able to listen to 902 new items :(

  • Sean Golding24/11/2009 at 11:26

Rich didn't want to post anything because he found it upsetting, but basically it says that the whole corporation is a sham, has no money and has fooled a lot of investors. The article postulates that the British guy (who has a fraud conviction) wants to get into F1 to get the TV money etc...

the problem alex highlighted with "public" waves killed my enthusiasm. spc integration requires the use of public conversation and right now that gives away your email address to everyone.

not very well thought through at all.

with a circuit capacity of 100,000, if half the crowd stay in a local hotel, they each have to pay an additional £100, to make up the shortfall, right?

ahhhh. much... nope, still £56 on top of your ticket. there must be a greater percentage of people staying in hotels.

Yeah I guess they say... Are you a hotel in the area? Yup... Good... Right... You are the lobby that said you wanted this thing... So there's 200 hotels here... How many rooms have you got in total? 5000? Cool... Chuck us $100 per room you have in your hotel. Cheers. What's that? How do you make it back? I don't know... you figure it out.

  • me24/11/2009 at 15:07

I wonder if it's a tax on all hotels in the area for all patrons, whether they're attending the race or not.

"Are you here for the GP?" "Nope!" "OK then! you get a cheaper hotel room!"

  • me24/11/2009 at 15:28

Christine is going to do reading out loud and Mr C will do baking but very closely supervised by LPG

I thought Mr C did the numbers!

I don't think I can actually do a live show on New Years day... But I don't suppose that matters much :)

It sounds like fun... And I would be up for it... But I know where I have to be on New Years Eve. And I know where I have to be on the day after New Years Day. The latter has broadband the former doesn't. I hadn't actually decided about New Years Day yet. Which means I don't know if I'll have broadband.

  • The Boston Red Scott24/11/2009 at 17:33

    Interesting...

Just picked this off the comments on f1fanatic...

" the finnish station Mtv3 and helsingin sanomat kimi has signed a contract with mercedes gp for 2010"

Although steph, the poster, picked it off a tweet from somewhere.... and wasn't too certain about the provenance....

  • Scott Woodwiss24/11/2009 at 19:29

I am currently putting together a covering letter to send with my CV to a few race teams and car companies around my area in order to get some unpaid work experience. I am looking to send it to Lotus, iSport, Comtec and P1 which are all based around Wymondham and Hethel, and also Advent Motorsport, who I know the team manager of, in Thetford.

I'm trying very hard to watch football on the TV. I have realised that I cannot watch TV anymore!

I can recommend a Samsung Series 8 Plasma to cure that. If there's nothing on free to air, then it has built in you tube and media playback from either the built in flash memory, a usb stick or hard drive, or DLNA equipped computer.

According to the manager he sent the keeper off for denying a goal scoring opportunity despite the fact that the ball ended up in the net. No-one is sure yet whether he abandoned the game because one team only had 6 players or if he just decided time was up.

Pick 14 drivers from F1, IRL, NASCAR, ALMS and GrandAm and then pick 10 of them every week (5 oval, 5 road course) from February to November... And you can trade. But it costs US$10.

    2 from each ALMS class

    2 from each Grand-am class

    ?

  • Pat W24/11/2009 at 21:21

So when picking drivers does it work:

Nope. You can pick anyone from any of the selected series. Any combination. It is up to you to nominate 5 road course drivers and 5 oval drivers per week, and it is up to you to know which week the IRL is on what type of track...

the database and bits that hang off of it are still in use behind the scenes, but it plays no part in the site that the outside world sees.

    No. Road course.

But you have a pool of 14 and if you want to change someone you have to swap during the week or trade with someone, before nominating your line-up.

  • me24/11/2009 at 21:35

Just always thought little of Capsis too so I wondered if it was just another name for them

capsis takes credit for editing gmm content, so you're right. but they're not the same company.

  • RG24/11/2009 at 21:36

Am more amazed he hasn't made a statue of himself yet.

  • Scott Woodwiss24/11/2009 at 21:37

Am more amazed he hasn't made a statue of himself yet.

He'd probably make sure it was abstract so there's penty of corners.

    But it may suit Nissan

Ah yes that must be it :)

    Whatever happened to Dirty Scarab?

don't know, but the link doesn't go anywhere either.

So that post contains the last known work of Dirty Scarab. intresting ;)

  • Steven Roy24/11/2009 at 21:38

    Does GMM = Capsis?

    They appear together a lot

  • Scott Woodwiss24/11/2009 at 21:38

But Nissan don't have any say in Renault's F1 operations?

  • Steven Roy24/11/2009 at 21:39

Not yet but that may be an option for Renaut. Get Nissan to contribute to the budget

Or Renault F1 becomes Nissan F1?

  • Steven Roy24/11/2009 at 21:43

There is no mention of Kobayashi on the Auto Hebdo site. Auto Hebdo is the French equivalent of AUTOSPORT and very reputable.

    http://www.autohebdo.fr/

It does have a piece on the Festival of Speed and says the theme for 2010 will be Italy

    It's possible.

Andretti Green Racing has now become Andretti Autosports. I think this means Michael is the sole owner now..

They announced that was going to happen a couple of months ago. Danica gave an interview saying (but not saying) that is why she was staying there rather than going to NASCAR

  • Alison24/11/2009 at 22:29

You're not helping me stay awake! What do I do.....

  • Pat W24/11/2009 at 22:30

Well it is his baby now, which I think he's wanted for a while. I'm not his biggest fan. He has a tendency to defend Marco even when it is indefensible (with the proviso that I've not watched most of the races this year - yet). I think it caused friction. They've struggled for a while and perhaps this is the key to get them back on top. It is interesting that for 2009 they changed roles and he became Danica's strategist rather than Marco's, it seems to have helped her.

    I miss Team KOOL Green.

  • Pat W24/11/2009 at 22:31

I was a fan of the original Team Green when Barry Green owned it. Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy driving. Brilliant.

I haven't heard that but I haven't properly been keeping up with IndyCar news really. I am surprised you say Walker Racing because they stood down their IndyCar team for a while.
