Here we are then, another Monday is upon us. Don't forget that if you would like the chance to write a daily post at some point in the future, then the option is there! I am taking volunteers for a series of guest written daily posts, and it's a good excuse to plug your own blog, or links that you like. We've had a great response so far, but there's always room for more.
- It seemed to be the weekend for F1 visiting NASCAR as both Vettel and Kovi attended the race. Vettel was particularly outspoken about things F1 could learn from the sport, highlighting the spectacle that fans get, both visiting and on TV.
- F1 Wolf has some rather stunning and you might say amusing photos of the Macau Grand Prix, which didn't exactly get off to a great start at all. Mr C and I both looked at the video of the start and wondered if David Coulthard had got in the car by mistake. Oops, sorry DC.
- In Sidepodscience news, the Large Hadron Collider was relaunched on Friday and is apparently doing a lot better than it did first time round, in terms of research and stuff. Clearly I don't know what I'm talking about, but I know it hasn't killed us all. We did have quite a bad live show last night though... Hmm. Anyway, the original and best Big Picture has some great photos of the LHC if you haven't seen them already.
That's all for now. After two days off last week, I'm back at work and probably faced with piles of paperwork to sort through. Nevertheless I will see you in the comments.
First comment!
Another new day sneaked in
ah-ha, we've been looking for a replacement pinger. congrats on the new placement.
The Large Hadron Collider makes the daily post. Sidepodcast suddenely went intellectual
They are launching the LHC? I thought it was underground. How do they get liftoff?
#classified
I've spent the last hour looking at f1 photos and looking for photography conferences... I have no motivation for the rest of the week... Stupid work that I don't want to do. This week is going to be uber busy for me work wise as I have lots to do so if I show up please shoo me, I may be around in the late evenings depending on how i get on with work.
I must sleep now though, night all! xx
Bird with a baguette apparently
Night Lou
I hope those people from the future, who keep sabotaging it, don't find out.
Toodle loo er, Lou.
Race over. That last lap was terrifying! The tires had completely gone. Went off in a place where I hadn't for the entire weekend!
Night!
laters.
:D
Queue swallow air speed jokes!
did you win?
African or European swallow?
yes, those jokes. ;-)
Yep. Barrichello was too far behind.
quite realistic then!
I don't know.
Harsh.
Different sketch. That's who's on first
They both have I don't know in.
well done. are you planning a whole season like this?
Sorry, missed the words "that" and "aaaaaaaaargggggghhhhhh"
Yep. Prob doing a session an evening, so free practice 1 tomorrow
i am in awe of your dedication.
I'm probably not going to do updates as frequent as tonight, but I'll keep you posted on how I do.
if you keep notes, it might may for a good post? we can compare your season to 2009?
Is damage turned on? If so, how can you last 1 lap?!
Damage is off. Once I get better, I'll turn it on
Could do. We'll see
http://autocompleteme.com/2009/10/23/african-or-european/
That site has hours of entertainment
Sorry, wrong thread
"I'm back, hello
First of all, can I say, that this is not warm
But, this isn't cold. Come back to me in the first week of January and moan about the temperature in the UK
Not now, this is just the beginning"
Hello! I haven't been around much. Where are you? Where have you been?
Am back in London now
Have been in Greece and then an internet break
One of which was because of 'girls' ;)
Priorities are in order then! :-)
Oh aye!
Did they nick your iPhone then?
Well, this may be the case but I haven't broken out my internet star, Orange Drill story yet
I'm saving that one... for what, I do not know
In Greece I was too drunk to phone comment
The other needs no explanantion
That's a yes then. Unless.....
:)
I thought drinking enhanced phone skills? Clearly those commercials have no effect on me ("drinking kills driving skills")
Have there been any team press conferences in the last 5 hours? I forget if we have any non-established ones in a European time zone
It's just too fluid these days, Is Bernie still in charge, telling Toad what to do?
That's Top Gear watched and a late night snack consumed.
Its weird, I'm tired and need rest but also fairly alert and not wanting to go..
@Andy
which are the bigger Apple Retail Stores in the UK?
It looks like the Kingston one is nearest to Woking, but it looks small.
Then you have a problem
Welcome to my world
Regent Street, London I would have thought
Unless you ask Nick of Dubai
I call this 'Zoe disease'
my girlfriend regularly comes to bed at 3am and gets up at 11. Hmmm, sounds like Mr C also. Maybe it is SPC disease?
:D
Regent is still one of the biggest in the world, most of the rest are pretty small.
Can anyone give me a rough travel time from Mclaren to Apple Retail in Regent Street? I'm assuming public transport is the go.
Mr C: Out of interest, not really that much of a pain
Why does 'new style' DD fail to load properly way more than old style ever did [if ever]?
And makes more money per square metre than Harrods
not sure what you mean?
It could be. This is possibly why I'm often up until 1.15am when I really shouldn't be. This week's plan is to cut that back, but since I'll be revising in the evenings and wanting to catch up here after, it is doomed to failure.
You mean McLaren, Woking? That'd be Woking station to Waterloo (30 minutes or so) then tube to Oxford Circus.
When are you thinking of travelling?
A blank framework loads quite frequently for me
Recently
Everything but the comments
It isn't that cold, except for in this flat. Jan and Feb are going to be a problem. I'm going to buy a new heater.
i'll have to take a look at DD. it's almost coming into the development window now.
Ooh, paying a visit to the UK?
Insulation, even of the most rudimentary kind would be more well spent
As I said, it's not much of a pain
Just relaunch. But you should probably know that the recent stuff has not been it's friend
I should check the loft to see what's there. I've never had a loft before.
noted.
Windows and external doors are more likely the culprits
Just dreaming. Would love to move to England so I'm squirrelling away info now.
I'll get my Developer's Assistant badge one day ;)
it may be more 'up late drinking last night' disease, which means I lost sleep but now feel like i've changed timezone.
:)
Just for info Jeremy, most Aussies are back home within 3 - 4 years
So you will be living at Mclaren and working at Apple?
The hallway is quite cold and with all this wind you notice the air coming in... I dunno what to do about that. Maybe a heavy curtain on the door.
When I'm hungover I tend to be knackered and in bed early
Draught excluder at the foot of the door and adhesive spongey type stuff around the door frame
Thats ok. I haven't made the leap yet because I hate the cold and would miss living near the beach.
If they'd let me live there, yes! :P
I'd like to work for McLaren but may need to make the move while working for Apple and then change. Or just be a stalker....
I've felt like that all day but I forced myself to stay up so as not to get completely out of step on my sleep pattern. I didn't get up until nearly 2pm.. had I gone to bed when I came back here this afternoon I was worried I'd wake up halfway through the night.
ahh right, will look in hte hardware shop when i get around to going, need some pins for the carpet anyway..
We have beaches. Of sorts.
I grew up in a very cold house
Though earning some London money when the exchange rate is in your favour can be a good thing for a little while
perhaps not if they also have to pay London rent
The UK is nice in the Spring and Summer
Bedtime.
If I am here between 8pm and 11pm tomorrow you may need to shoo me as I should be studying.
Antipodeans don't seem to mind 8 people per household
Exactly. I need to find out about wages though. If I can get 50k in british pounds, even with more expensive living costs, i will effectively be saving more.
I doubt retail pays that much though :)
50k? doing what?
See ya Pat
As Haley Joel Osman may have said
I see bed, people
If only. Oh Jeremy, by the way I now have an iPhone :)
Retail? Not even store managers
Are you talking Sterling?
I describe what I do now as 'talking for a living'
I take it I'm aiming too high?
From what I hear, I am extremely well paid for retail in Australia (not meaning to boast)
comedy gold!
Sounds very much like it, yes
if i was earning that from talking, it would consider moving an inch.
I saw that when I first logged on. Congrats! 32 GB 3GS right?
I have requested one of those as my work supplied handset (every week since they were released!) but am meeting resistance.
...but no more :)
Time to move to a real job where you can just surf the net all day ;-)
16GB actually, I couldn't quite justify the extra cost. Plus I still have my Classic, even if I did manage to damage the display :(
I thought my classic was broken the other day, but the stupid thing came good again :-(
ooh. didn't mean to imply that I earn that much now (more like 40k) but I was wanting to get that much to counter the increased living costs.
More research needed.
Oh noes! (to damage)
16GB is more than enough for me, but I'm greedy. Free 3GS of any size would be accepted
Yeah. Particularly annoyed because it had just been replaced.
Andy, in addition to the tweeted apps earlier...
Boxcar, Layar, Mac OS Ken, My O2, Qik, Remote, Skype, Shazam, Snapture, thetrainline, Twitterrific, Weather Maps
Complete battery drain?
No. It wouldn't do anything (and no, it wasn't the lock button).
I did a reset and it came good :-(
I really wanted a new classic, mine is only 80gb
Mine too. But as I still haven't loaded my entire library into iTunes, I can't see me ever needing 160GB
tv is the killer, though. i need a 160GB touch.
sigh, me too. I do like having mine as a portable drive if needed though.
Hard drive and streaming
Mine wasn't free though.
M|F|C
That too. Stupid work bought me an 8GB iphone.
Stupid 8gb
touch doesn't have 3g though. but i see where you're coming from.
Or from 'The Cloud'
Is there a British head office for Apple? There used to be manufacturing in Cork, Ireland?
why do i keep thinking you have a 3GS?
Which is why they want you to have the iPhone
Next gen will have 7.2mbps data, you think they'll give you that in a non-subscription model?
probs because i should have one.
a phone is useless to me though.
I cant say that because Steve Jobs gave me one as a bonus. If one of his underlings would authorise a new 3GS for me, I wouldn't mind :)
Yes and yes.
7.2 doesn't work properly in this country anyhow? at least not anywhere near as close.
a touch with a huge drive would suit me nicely though.
Apple Sales International
Hollyhill Industrial Estate
Hollyhill, Cork
Republic of Ireland
UK offices near Heathrow, Stockley Park?
But they are just a regional thing I think
3GS is 7.2
it is?
A 32Gig phone?
In Europe?
The network I mean
I don't get an awful lot of 3G signal outside of the big smoke
i don't call anyone.
i don't text anyone.
all tariffs in the uk are tailored towards other people. i just need a data subscription.
So not far to Woking then? :P
Hmmm. I wonder what I could do for them.
At work it drops to Edge and GPRS

You aren't the ideal customer, just not as bad as Nick
hehe. i just need a bigger touch really.
a much bigger touch, i'll grant you.
We have more streets in London than you do in Australia
You need a better cloud a WiFi enabled city
yes!
It's on it's way, isn't Swindow Town Centre aiming to be completely WiFi soon
Lord knows why , I mean... Swindon?
Why don't we have them yet?
#MFCfail
Starbucks & MacDonalds need better routers
Fear. I used to go there once a week.
ANyway, past time for me to go to bed again, so night all :)
it was discussed the other week, but discounted due to lack of finns.
so we're still moving to kathi's house.
Goodnight Andy
Put the iPhone in it's dock, you'll get an extra half hour's sleep ;)
:)
Can we not just elect Kathi as UK Prime Minister?
night sir.
i'd second that. we should probably ask her first though.
I had to help the Maccas nearby reset theirs the other day because nobody could get an IP address. They really need load balancing equipment and ADSL2+ or similar
ask her after you move in. Take things slow.
heheh.
Lunch time already! Yikes. I better get some work done.
later chap.
our national carrier (now privatised?) has 21Mbps 3g modems for sale and in certain areas you'll see about 14 Mbps from it. Unbelievable!
Outside major cities (and some parts of them) still struggle with 3G though
I blames Jeremy. I can't stop reading autocompleteme.
Later.
#sorrypaul
Can we not just get Seven to enrol her for the next election?
*Steven
does it matter if she's overseas?
Has it ever bothered him before?
nope. :)
No
512 GB SSD drive anyone?

I saw a 1GB portable drive the other day
Who needs BluRay?

I think you mean you don't want to challenge for a position where there is already a job holder.

night bassano!
hooray my first 2.5 hours at work have gone quickly and now i have a meeting for an hour. Then its just 5.5 hours til home time. Boo.
did you make it in on time?
You say that like she is always late
Time for bed for me.
Cath you all later
Catch not Cath.
see you steven.

Hi all, a bit off topic, if any Asian fans out there who can't stand Star Sports F1 commentator Steve Slater? This is what I wrote to ESPN Star...
http://www.facebook.com/notes.php?id=677043221
Morning all!
*waits for europe to catch up*
what do you mean morning, we are well into the afternoon. *waits for dubai to catch up*
Hey Freeman. Nice idea. Unfortunately, you were not the first to try that. You may want to check out Wolf's blog, as he had previously written on the topic - with a VERY mixed response.
Hey Nick. Just dropping by.
Hahaha! Hi Amy. :D
Oh, and I can't see what you wrote, Freeman (no FB, you see. ehehe) Perhaps you can repost it here?
doh!
Im sure you guys are cheating somehow :P
Morning! :D
Ah, I wondered why I couldn't find you!
Thanks Journeyer, i know my efforts will probably end in vain, but I owe it to myself to speak out!
A bit long this letter, but here it is...
That's it, stop insulting F1 fans and fire Steve Slater
Dear Management of ESPNStar,
I'm sure I am not alone, please spend a few minutes and search online to see what fans think of Steve Slater. He is annoying, possess no knowledge in mortorsport & F1, do stupid chuckles, and most of the time gets things wrong in terms of drivers and race progression. His co-commentators cannot stand him (just ask Chris Goodwin, he's a good guy btw) And oh, he gets on viewers' nerves by his silly repetitive one-liners.
Please Management, I invite you to watch a few races, be it F1, GP2, MotoGP, NASCAR, LeMans... Listen to their commentary, and I dare to say, none can be worse than Steve Slater. For example, your GP2 & MotoGP coverage, their commentators are no well-known superstar, but their commentaries are top class. Now, open your eyes & ears to BBC's F1 coverage, and you'll be amazed how badly us Asian fans are treated in terms of coverage.
I've been wanting to send this to your attention for a long long time, but what pushed me to really do this is watching your F1 Classics re-run of 1994 Australian GP. It's totally absurd for Steve & Alex to "re-commentate". Without doubt, their commentating qualities are poor as usual. But on top of that, they try to create excitement and make believe that they're not sure what happened just like live tv? My god! This race happened 15 years ago! Why not just buy the right to broadcast these races, and pay a few quid more to get Murray Walker's commentary too, and don't insult and fool us fans in the process?
I have one simple suggestion for Star Sports to improve your F1 coverage in one master stroke....
BUY BBC's RACE FEED TOGETHER WITH THEIR COMMENTARY.
(Canadian & Australian broadcasters do this)
You can still do a pre-race and post-race feature show if you want. But fans will be properly treated to top class commentary. It's not only fans who benefit. I'm sure proper commentary will correctly educate and entertain "casual" fans, so they will watch more of your coverage. You have no idea how Steve Slater annoys and turns off casual and hardcore fans alike. Oh, did I mention you can cut your headcount to balance the books by doing this?
Please, spend some time to see what fans say on forums about Steve Slater. I only watch Star Sports F1 Live coverage just because I HAVE to. Wait a few years and online streaming improves their quality to live TV standard, I will surely watch overseas feeds if you still keep the "self proclaimed Petro-Head Steve Slater".
I'm pushed to my limit to tolerate Steve Slater. I'm actually going to draft a proposal to Mr. Ecclestone to recommend proper coverage and how to attract new fans in Asia (his booming market), and unsurprisingly, the #1 action plan will be to REMOVE STEVE SLATER.
ps. sorry for my strong and negative tone, but I'm just speaking out after years of tolerating an incompetent commentator in a sport I love.
Thanks for your attention,
Freeman Tang

Since it's Must comment Monday can I point you to a couple of guest posts on Pitlanefanatic. The first is from Ollie The one tale of two champions and the second is from Rick entitled F1 overtaking made easy/ Yay for guest posts, hope you enjoy them.
I see I am not the only one who can't stand Mr Slater :-)
by the way, I saw Alex Yoong in Macau last weekend. I must say I am not sure what was his game plan especially after announcing his race plans during F1 race coverage on Star Sports. The Star TV crew (Paula Malay Ali and Sanjaya Palar) was there with him to make sure they have something to show on TV later on but there will be hardly any footage of him racing ...
He brought some weird looking white car called Bufori that was hopelessly uncompetitive in the GT Cup race. I gad few friends in the GT Cup paddock and they were all shaking heads when I asked them what they think Mr TYoong is doing there...
He started way back, almost last, and lasted only 4 laps in the race before retiring. Perhaps he wanted to re-live his F1 experience - backmarker in uncompetitive car ?
You've not heard of Jonathan Legard then!
sound like you haven't heard Mr Slater :-)
Tis true, I haven't
that explains :-)
Really! he worse than JL?
Is it a case that he's really shocking or just that his co-commentators are brilliant which makes him seem worse? I know that's the impression I got with both James Allen and Jonathan Legard because they share with Brundle
Oh the Bufori - well if you followed him on Facebook or Twitter you would have seen that it is a prototype that was knocked together in 8 weeks.
The odd part is that Bufori make new versions of 1930's cars which look like MG's - kinda like how Morgan operate. So this car doesn't even fit it's own manufacturer!
Clip please!
well it did not even had enough space for the engine. the engine was kind of extending inside the cockpit, some of my friends did not believe that car was safe to race ... anyway, I have some photos from the garages and paddock, will sort them out in day or two or three and post somewhere
clip will not help, but watching a race he commentates may :-)
Posted this last night, but it might have gotten lost...
I just obtained a copy of Office 2007 and I want to use it to jazz up my graphs, make them look better etc.
So what do you guys think of this?
Much nicer Gavin :)
Thanks ;)
Does the flat colour scheme look nicer? Is it bold and easy to read or should I change the colours?
Do the Cheerios look silly?
I don't follow anybody connected with Star Sports coverage so I was left in the dark
LOL at the cherrio's comment. Nope, they look good.
I like it, simple (flat) is better in my opinion. Sometimes with a graph you can go that bit too far and when you already have a lot of information on a graph. 3-D shapes can be distracting of the message you want to give.
I dont think you need to put the numbers on the bars for stint times as you have an axis for that, that would make it easier to read I reckon.
Oh and the colours look fine, fits in with the colour scheme of the blog.
More like I now know I'm not alone! I've posted my letter on Autosport's forum, and got some quick response. But really, this is not going to change anything...
Brilliant feedback, thanks again Jackie :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdyjT6RhYsM
Start at 1:15. But it's a highlight reel, so it's not Slater at his worst. ;)
Oh and Bernie's on Sportsweek (BBC Radio 5 Live Podcast) this week...
Really! I download and re-watch BBC race every time. If you think Allen and now Legard are bad, this Slater is a joke.
Yoong wants to remind us his middle name:
Alex "Mobile Chicane" Yoong
I usually mute Slater for Legard when there's little to no lag on the feed. ;)
He can claim to be in the same league as Jarno Trulli, Jacques Villeneuve, Giancarlo Fisichella, and Nelson Piquet Jr - they were all teammates that Alonso made mincemeat of...
Uh-oh .. I usually mute Legard for no commentary when he goes off on one. That guy does like say "Ooooooh and he's"
I think his team mate was Webber
Slater's favorite expression seems to be "OHHHHH" :D
That's what I meant in my comment .. but maybe it came across that this was a Legard expression
Yoong's first race was Monza 2001, paired with Alonso. He finished 2001, then did most of 2002 with Webber, after Alonso moved on to become Renault's 3rd driver.
I've heard Legard say "ooooh" more than a few times. But Wolf is right - unless you watch a race in full with Slater on the mic, it is difficult to comprehend just how awful he is.
I will try my best to not let him spoil my viewing pleasure for tonight - the 1994 Brazilian GP.
Bah, have to be heading off for work. Have a good day all, see ya!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-xnqF81YL0
Slater from Monza 2002.
Whoops, Monza 2003 rather.
that was a bit Slater like from you :-)
Nooooooo...! :P
two things I learned about Star Sports crew in Macau last weekend - Alex Yoong is taller than he looks on TV, Paula Malay Ali is very small, much smaller than she looks on TV. Not that this matters ...
Morning everyone :)
Most annoying Slater expressions:
"This is a hero to zero moment!" (he says this gadzillion times in each race)
"Do stay with us for more Drama!" (says this every time just about to cut to adverts, most of the time there's no drama to speak of)
"from our calculation, he can run a one-stop strategy" (he never got one right from my record)
I think he and Legard went to the same commentary school!
Good morning all.
Nah, I doubt it. Slater's way too loud and obnoxious, Legard's too quiet and softspoken.
Hey, Christine.
Quick Mr. C, James is planning to delete his blog!
Morning :)
I must admit after 30 seconds it was like putting my ears into a cheese grater!
Boo.
Morning
Morning :)
We go through 90+ minutes of that 17+ times a season! Simply horrible. :( Usually, just like Legard, it's his analysts that save the day for him. He's had some good ones - Chris Goodwin (Bruno Senna's driver advisor), and Karun Chandhok (F1 hopeful). And there were awful ones, like Alex Yoong and... some other guy whose name I don't remember.
Morning!
Is this what passes for work?
shhhhh :)
my job today involves learning some Joomla. I am not sure I am up to the task
Moooooooooooorning!
My Internet is BACK! wooohooo!
Plus i have an awesomely amazing blog post/short story for y'all coming very soon!
BLUG ALERT
Woah. A little excited there....? Morning :)
I'm making up for the fact that my day will likely be a thursday!
That is a pre-blug alert!
Now it's an actual BLUG
http://jonwaldock.wordpress.com/2009/11/23/false-starts/
I like the idea of a pre-blug :)
COMMENTED!!!!!
Just realised it's MCM!
Why is it called a blug instead of a plog?
because a plog would be a plug blog, blug is a blog plug
Check the dictionary - it's Lukeh's fault ;)
You are trying to assign sense to it :)
too true
I'm confused. Please don't ruin it :(
Plog blug?
or Blug plog?
#sorryenglishlanguage
Well it is your second language ;)
I was thinking this morning that in roman numerals it's MMIX, and next year it's (pentium) MMX
that dosent get you out of MCM though ;)
Seems to be a topic of interest, so I've prepped the breakout thread: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/23/mercedes-set-to-announce-a-driver/
plan!
Its Monday so the F1 news begins again! Boo! :)
There's a very confusing thread situation here. Can we all choose one thread? This makes my head hurt.
Christines kindly put a breakout thread out, so i suggest that one
I'd say good choice.
So what is going on with everyone thats non F1 related? :D
They are digging up the road outside. It is noisy. Boo for silly workmen.
What about you?
You're not really going to delete your blog, are you?
I'm sitting in an Artifical Intelligence Lecture. Its all theroy so not very intresting.
as for my blog probably not i just felt really silly about what i posted.
If anyone wants to make a load of money, just go in to car rental and make a decent website... you will make a fortune, there is zero competition
Phew. Have been where you are though. I stopped blogging for months and months because of silly things I wrote.
It's addictive though :)
we'd need some capital in the first place to buy some cars ;)
Are you going to be able to make a robot?
:)
I just need to work out what I will post on there and what I won't
Testing.
May I suggest more Doctor Who and biscuits please :)
No.thats why its boring.
One week on my feelings haven't changed about this course. particualry after Mr C saw one of the tasks for one of my assignments and made me realise how bad it was :D
Okay strange website fail. If I use doohickey to post in the other thread it says I have an invalid post ID but it works in here.
hehe. I've been uploading a lot of stuff to youtube recently so i will do a post soon :)
Ah, that Mr C being a bad influence again! :)
Its ok though. I was already thinking it and he did link me somewhere where I could learn everything about web. :)
When I do the daily post, I'm not going to mention F1 at all :D
Sounds like a plan and a half.... :D
Oooh, I like it already!
James sometimes it what you can do with the most basic of tools that shows that you are a cut above the rest....
Christine for some reason you comment on my blog needs to be approved. I thought I turned moderation off.
Indeed. I know I will go overboad on my "creative" assingments this year.
Odd. Moderation can strike at the strangest of times though. Will try another comment when you next post ;)
hehe well i can't at the moment. the filtering here blocks wordpress along with twitter which is just annoying.
Good to hear!
:)
are these good headphones? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-CX-300-II-Precision-Noise-Isolating/dp/B001EZYMTK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258975993&sr=8-1
I did wonder why I was being asked about this. what was Mr C going to do? :P
Yes sir. I have Philips, but the earplug types are essential for outdoors/public transport!
Well seeing as he made us all start blogging, I would have thought he would try to convince you to keep going?
Ah. Well it was actually Christine who pushed me to do the second blog ;)
but its application is hugely useful - just wish universities would move int the 21st century and properly teach applications rather than boring content. I would like to ban theory exams in many fields.
I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. How do you develop new applications and move forward with things if you don't have a solid theoretical background. People need to be given the knowledge to allow them to think for themselves and be innovative.
Oh OK - well, as long as you aren't stopping then it's all good ;)
For our assignment we have to pick 2 developing technologies. go away research them and present them via use of multimedia.
So the lectures aren't for all I guess.
he he! we use it extensively when classifying satellite images and doing conservation biology - specifically optimisation of land use.
at that price, you'd be mad not to get them. they are very very good for the price.
Exactly - I looked at those in Germany and I would have paid £30!
Teaching applications first then move to theory. Trouble in our part of the world is its all theory and little application. As far as thinking goes - best to find a suitable application for actually doing something with A.I. So rather than write an essay or do a PowerPoint on A.I. - you actually say download satellite imagery data and use an off-the-shelf algorithms (e.g. Kohonen SOM or multilayer perceptron neural network) and actually review your results you get (patterns - then say use fractals to further define patterns & infer processes). Thats what I mean by application - to use real real data for real analysis. Too much of what I see at universities is little more than regurgitation of other studies, review etc - that is what I would call theoretical and does not help you be better when you are being employed. Its hardly under-grad work to develop your own algorithms in this field but important to know how it could be used.
nope, but i am annoyed i subscribed and now i have to unsubscribe.
that's 15 seconds of my life i'll never see again :(
Do you then you have to resubscribe when you read the bit where he's not giving up?
I really don't think I agree with you Rich. I think it's quite obvious that AI isn't my field but surely someone has to understand enough to develop new solutions at the base level or the whole structure will stagnate.
erm, i don't see that? but yes.
james, you've cost me at least 20 seconds worth of clicking this week.
Hopefully all the previous Merc comments should be moved to the breakout thread now.
And it's only Monday!
20 Seconds? Awww!
My Parents-in-law and their lack of basic understanding has cost me three whole weekends!
As a small example, they gave my sister-in-law a wireless keyboard. She asked me with a puzzled look why it wasn't working. They had given her only the keyboard and not the USB receiver thingy!
Just heard some uncomfortable news about Quadbike, the Swiss are suggesting they are just an elaborate scam.
Russel King, a convicted fraudster, is still involved with them and they say the FIA don't seem that convinced anymore (you have to love the exhaustive selection process the FIA went through)
i hate apple. last week they updated their HP printer drivers. i'd hoped that it fixed the issue whereby "print two copies" only prints a single copy, and then spits out a blank sheet.
alas no, the update hasn't made any difference. what it has done though is make all light grey background colours and text appear black.
i have in my hand x1 solid black page and x1 pure white page and neither has any readable text on them.
Oh :(
that was what i said. albeit louder.
What was the smallest MacBook they every made was it 11"? Or did I dream that.
12" no?
I read that on a German language website - very distressing so I decided not to post it here. It was very very negative (and upsetting as a Sauber fan) - I just do not know what BMW are doing - getting out of compensation for its employees?
Ah that makes sense...
"you have to love the exhaustive selection process the FIA went through"
I would be a lot more concerned about BMWs procedures!....
I am not sure that the FIA was ever convinced as they didn't have a slot to be convinced about...
Was that actually a powerbook?
don't think so, why?
My football team is in the same boat. They have assured the FA they are all above board, yet they cannot pay the tax bill!
Are we playing 'Which Apple Mac am I'?
The really theory in A! is beyond undergraduate level of engagement - I just hate pretense. I have a 100% track record of employment for my post-graduates in the industry they were trained in - its based on solid application not by advancing high level theory.
i am the angle-poise imac.
I have a friend who really likes her eeeepc, but wants to have an iPhone. She's currently happily running linux. Running iTunes for Windows on her machine would probably be very painful. So I'm trying to work out what to suggest.
closest thing is a 13" macbook, running bootcamp / linux.
pricey though.
I'm off to cook but you can't teach people the applications if you then want them to be able to apply things themselves. They need to work it through themselves for it to be truly useful? There must be applications that no-one's considered before. To think otherwise would be closed minded.
Well she would be happy to switch to apple - no iTunes on Linux. I think a second hand 12" might work.
just be sure it's an intel model.
You have missed by point!
#sorrymrc
I am the G4 Cube!
Is it bad I'm making notes on what I could be my daily post? :D
Not bad at all. I likes enthusiasm!
I'm thinking next week might be good. Or maybe starting at the weekend.
ahh boo. autosport's autoplayering video is back.
i need someone to rip off all their content and stick it on a new site, minus the flash.
awesome. :)
Mr C I can't believe you'd say such a thing ;)
it's making the site a little bit unbearable actually.
Wait, think about what you are implying man!!!
Hmm here at college/uni their filtering blocks the the autoplaying video :)
gotta work on those tongue-in-cheek smilies.
to be honest its not actually that hard to do. ;)
i know. i wonder if i bought the domain name www.autosportminusthecrappyvideos.com and did that, they might get the hint?
Hehe :D but you'd have a site with no content ;)
ouch! :P
well you wouldn't rip material from autosport would you Mr C? :)
i currently have seven simultaneous videos running, all showing video of button grinning.
not sure i can take much more ;)
Imagine how Amy would feel!
Article on Autosport about how Mr Vettel needs to raise his game....
They must have been watching our earlier discussion....
they do need to allow people to disable autoplaying on the site.
i disagree. they need to not autoplay by default.
Morning all. Other than the obvious, what have i missed?
Says the man who wouldn't switch the audio alerts to default off.
Rich and I are fighting for the Mercedes drive!
It's mine!!!
true enough. that didn't nick all your bandwidth though.
"that didn't nick all your bandwidth though"
What has Heidfeld to do with this?....
ITS ROSS BRAWNS BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Ross!!!
in that case you should register that domain name ;)
Nice present getting 30 million last week ;)
Dear Mr Summerton.
Get a real job, or get off twitter. Or both.
Love Jon
heeeh!
What's happened now?
He won't shut up. EVER
#be sure to keep telling your friends to follow me @jsummerton and have a chance to win 1 of 10 signed prints. #supportjsummerton
I did retweet it, so get of my back!
*off ;)
If he annoys you so much why are you following him?
That's a good point! I don't know actually!
Done!
RG, Take Care buddy!
I heart
Kathi speaks the troof
She does!
I can safe you from following annoying people. That must be a useful skill. Maybe I should become UK Prime Minister after all.
We're about to loose ours, so you've probably got a chance
Can you make Rubens visits compulsory?
If so, you have my vote
Although considering the competition you have my vote anyway
That would make both the Royal Family and the Ruling Party German!
I watch Finnish TV => I'm Finnish
:D
Ooh I keep putting that evil arrow symbol into my c++ work im doing now
*shakes fist at arrow*
By the Rosberg principle you are indeed!
Does that make me Danish? (Shudders!)
the arrow isn't evil, your course is :)
"That would make both the Royal Family and the Ruling Party German!"
Aha.... they are eligible for the Mercedes drive.....
But Kathi... as a Finn ....ends up rallying....
i actually understand something properly :o
kinda.
have added rosberg, and also j-lo:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Who+goes+where+-+2010
not sure if j-lo is counts as confirmed though?
I watch British TV => I'm 40% American
:P
I'd wait until the FIA have stopped laughing at the entire suggestion first
j-lo? oh no :(
I really do pick them - Nick, Timo, (once upon a time Nico), Toyota and Sauber. Toyota bid farewell today, the new Sauber owners are a sham, Timo has gone to join a virtual team funded by Virgin (and Lauder says is a huge mistake). My one glimmer of hope was that Nick would get a Brawn drive - otherwise, I think I will probably give F1 as an interest. Sorry the German bias - its my background.
ahh yeah.
i dont reckon he'll get a super licence, if he does i will cry and shout and then go with my mate mr loeb and have a free and frank exchange of ideas with the superlicence department
Good evening everyone, i have moved in to my new home :D
hoorah!
I have been to the shoip and packed the fridge... but unpacking still awaits...
thats happened very quickly!
I have no rental car yet, but have borroed one...
Its slightly different to what i am used to, i am suprised i havent caused some carnage yet...

Thats awesome :D

Ahoy hoy. Hows sidepodland?

Ah well that's ok then!
I have 148 tv channels, i can watch 7 of them.

Hehehehehehehe
Oh, but i also have an awesome apartment ;)

There is a gym and a pool behind the building, and an underground carpark beneath it

Will do good man ;)
I'll get down from the roof then.
Aah nice stuff, good site that.
yeah it is!
For Wolf - Mr Yoong's GT car was a special made-in-Malaysia car built in 9.5 weeks. No wonder it was rubbish!
From a company called Bufori who makes knock offs of old MG's!
Mmm. Indeed so.
So those who complained about Jon Summerton's tweets eariler - turns out the prize is a print from @motorsportprint...
Love the green overalls vege stig had on in top gear!

You don't like his work?
I must say I prefer his hand-drawn works...
it looks like he printed a picture of then attacked it with a biro. :(
MCM! BLUG! PLOG! BLUGPLOG!

I think that isn't a bad description TBH ;)
It's like what my dad does, he does the most amazing pictures, and then covers them in biro. It annoys me verrrrrrry muuch
BLOG READ BLOGREAD!
hey
hello Kimster. :)
Off to bed for me. Big day tomorrow. Lots of celebrating to be done. ;)
Night, all!
Day 7
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-E7KSEZhp0
Niiiiiiight
Evening all. I feel really bad for my brother, his car has a huge dent in the side because some moron at his work's car park caused it and didn't leave a note or tell security or anything, just caused it and disappeared with their tail between their legs. grrrrrrrrrrrr.
GRRRRRRRRR
Evening all
#sidepodspace update
The third and final spacewalk of this space shuttle mission is well under way and there is only two to three hours left of it. The most important aspect of it seems to be that the wife of one of the spacewalkers had a baby on Saturday. It is extraordianry the lengths some men will go to, to avoid being at the birth.
Don't know which I liked best the new USF1 Day 7 (I think it's getting better) or John's BLUG......
Great stuff....
If it's me refering too then you better remove that H sharpish ;)
Oh no that's no good :(
Sorry Jon...
Can't remove the H... it's set in stone since my edit function failed....
Actually talking about feeling really bad about something... I feel really bad that I've hardly been around today and yet here I am about to plug something...
If any of you have ever read one of my stories and wondered... I wonder what happens next... Then this post is for you: http://www.gamboling.co.uk/2009/11/writers-prerogative.html
I was really desperate to publish it on a Monday too! MCM for the win (although that might really just be about F1 blog posts)
Forgot to say earlier. awesome :)
I am starting to worry about the calibre of astronauts that NASA is employing. One spacewalker just announced that he was sirectly above the English Channel. Turned out that it was the Gulf of Mexico.
yikes.
Mexico, Jersey, it's all the same
stunning
No. 10 makes me a little sad :(
Some amazing photos though :)
best of the best.
Thank you for those photos...
It make s me want to do two things...
1. To travel more and
2. To look more closely at everything every single day.....
Something else just floated away from spacewalk but no-one seems to have the slightest idea what it was.
I heard a great description of art the other day. People are often put off by "modern" art. It has made it difficult to define what art is. Photography has also clouded the issue. This definition was, "art is anything that makes you look at the world and think, 'that's art'."
Steve Buschmi?
There are some incredible pictures in there. I guess the difference between a photographer and the rest of us is if we see a bee landing in water we don't immediately think about catching the pattern of ripples
the person who made that definition up clearly spent too long arguing with others and so decided "Fine! Art's what you want it to be!"
;) :P
Hey everyone,
Killing time in the Portland airport as I wait for my flight. Just reading the news about Rosberg and one Jose Maria Lopez, (who I am writing a blog post about.)
Who ever said that Formula One was the best collection of drivers in the world is full of it.
Que?
They think it was something like a wire tie but no-one has lost anything from their inventory but mission control saw something float away
Didn't he almost float away during the Moon related Bruce Willis shenanigans?
No-one of that name exists on the net
Spelling error: Steve Buscemi
Steve Buscemi was that man I think
Very funny You know!
When I was in J-school, I got to sit in on a lecture with Steve McCurry, probably the best NG photographer alive. He has this great photo of a salmon run in Idaho with something simila where the fish was perfectly placed as the shot was half underwater and half landscape which was awesome. The next slide was of the set up where he had some underwater lighting and a guy with a bucket full of live salmon which he was releasing next to the camera. It was pretty funny seeing the look on people's faces when he revealed how staged these things are. All of the self rightious journalist went crazy calling it "unethical." I call it having a great vision.
I must say I do like the look of USF1's 2010 car
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lukehmuse/4128815498/
hehee :D
(*head in hand...shaking head*)
I'm sorry Dan
I'm sure it'll at least have less rust
Time they hired you so you could get some positive info out there
We'll my resume is out there. However, I am not sure. Going to work for USF1 would be like going to work for a Freshman congress member. The job might be great and it nice to stride in the halls of power but it is a lot of work with little job security.
:D
Don't worry, you don't even have to start the #sorryDanBrunell hastag.
Good evening - was the rest of the show last night good? (I am keeping my name until think of something else to say...
I did that for the whollllllle of 2008.
it started how it finished :)
2008...hmmm...did I miss much?
I have a list on the wiki :D
looking forward to the edited podcast....I love old episodes of Sidepodcast... :)
talking of wiki, does anyone know when the Guest Daily Post thing will start? It sounds like a fun (and plug time... :D )
darn grammar...
If this isn't confirmation without saying it then i don't know what is...
http://www.racintoday.com/archives/12180
there's even a flippin' picture!
Probably next week, or at the weekend.
they're trying to up his profile, so he can grab the remaining sponsorship he needs.
they can't confirm him if he doesn't get it.
Or he doesn't get a superlicence
that too.
although they may confirm him without a licence, take his money and then ditch him in the new year.
(or make him test driver)
I must correct myself. A while back I said my wife would never let me get my son a scalextric set. That was before she watched the most recent episode of Toy Stories.
Now _SHE_ Wants one!
Would just like to say, don't know if its been said already, that a certain David Croft was on Fighting Talk this week.
Oh wicked - that's my Wednesday Morning Commute Podcast!
Go get it now before she changes her mind
Indeed - in Denmark we give presents for advent too!
Why is it that when I see Arsene Wenger and think of the Merovingian from the Matrix Revolutions?
My reaction blog article.

Alright, I need to go.
I used some of my frenquent flyer millage to upgrade to first class for my flight to Houston. Whoohoo!!!
See you all later.
#sidepodspace
The third and final spacewalk has been completed successfully. The shuttle will undock form the ISS on Wednesday and land if the weather is good on Friday. I don't know times yet.
He reminds me of the food critic from Ratatouille
Hello all, remembered it is Must Comment Monday so duly commented. You raise an interesting point Dan, it had not occurred to me.
Just spent a frustrating half hour trying to get a new phone on line. It wouldn't accept my credit card even though I was inputting the correct information. Had a panic someone had nicked my details & changed my password so rang the bank to discover the Verified by Visa people are having issues today. Will just have to try again tomorrow :(
Boo. Verified by Visa problems see to happen too often for my liking sometimes... always get paranoid about details when it happens to me too!
Verified by Visa didn't work for me on the McLaren e-shop the other week - they blamed it on my card being from overseas!
hey hey
Evening sidepodland. Not having a good day. Still working which deserves many, many boos.
I did however manage to cobble together some views on Nico and Merc.
How are you all?
Good thanks - just catching up with the football!
I just realised the decade is almost over!
Indeed it is. I won't be sorry to see the back of this one:)
Aww. All things considered, the noughties were good to me!
+1
Heh it wasn't all bad. This will be second decade I've lived through.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevning :P
evening all!
Hi guys. I need someone who knows about travel...
Does anyone know if you can fly / enter a country with a damaged passport?
Sorry to drop in with a Q but my sister is in a panic...
I'll ask my wife.. hold on...
Where is she going?
Pat, from Directgov You do not need to report a damaged passport, but if your passport is damaged beyond reasonable wear and tear, some airlines may not let you travel. For this reason IPS recommends that you apply for a replacement as soon as possible.
I'm pretty sure it's invalid if it's damaged. I think it's a discretion thing though. If it's within the EU then she'll be absolutely fine. You can talk your way around the EU without one at all.
From Spain to UK
Also, there is a passport helpline which may be of use for the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) 0300 222 0000
Ah home to the UK? There'll be absolutely no issue. If she didn't have one, she'd be able to talk her way onto the flight.
Are you sure about that?
Wifey says it should be ok but she will have to replace it.
If there's a serious panic on and she's very very worried about it, go to the embassy and they'll be able to issue a new passport in spain.
My cousin once talked her way onto a flight to the Netherlands when she lost her passport and had a new one issued in Amsterdam.
Thanks. This is what she says:
- the passport had damage to the red cover
- the passport had dog-eared edges on the laminate / photo part
- the laminate had come away from the page on both corners, but not near the photo
- luckily the actual info on the passport is ok and not affected and the photo is ok too... the problem is the corners of the laminate and the front of it.
She went to the airport today and asked someone on the check-in desk who seemed to think it was okay. We're more worried about UK immigration tbh
I'm not talking lost/stolen en route to the airport either. I mean generally misplaced within her house.....
Don't worry. Presuming she's a British citizen, what are they going to do.... Refuse entry??
She is coming home for Christmas for a couple of weeks. She's been sitting on it worrying about it, and has left it too late to renew it in time to come back. They say 4 weeks, there are now just under 4 weeks. She'll need to get from Vigo to Madrid for an interview with the embassy.
TBH when I came back from Spain a couple of years ago they hardly looked at it as it was an EU passport
They're talking out their bum. If it were deemed an "emergency" in their eyes, they have the capacity to issue a passport as a next day service.
Why do family members always do stuff like that?
I'd be more worried if I were her about getting back into Spain on the way home if she lives there.... The Spanish are CRAZY about passports! All that fuss with ETA has made them very paranoid.
She hasn't actually got through to them yet, they weren't picking up the phone today for some reason.. But the FCO website says 4 weeks.
And she's worried about flying back to Spain again, 'cos she lives there.
Especially mine. This includes me. :-D
Presumably she can book an appointment to get a replacement in the UK and get a fast issue one done though while she's over.
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1322739
Best.Caption.Ever
Simple, yet truthful.
Don't blame 'em.
Mine too. Hence the comment ;)
hahaha... Well, I think that caption can apply to ALL who attend a nascar race!
I don't think she will have the slightest problem with her passport having slight damage.
Thanks for the assistance guys. Hopefully the embassy will be able to help.
She says that takes a week normally and will be longer over christmas.. she doesn't have that much time
It doesn't sound like it's too bad.... I was imagining it being badly burnt or something or with missing pages. Missing pages they go crazy over.... I'd probably advise replacing it while in the UK though as that sounds easier if you're anywhere near a centre?
I'm not sure where they are, will check
If she books an appointment at a passport office (which can be done 24/7 over the phone) and shows up at the office at the set time with the documents, it can be collected at the office later that day.
She says that only applies to new passports or expired ones
No. That's not true. I lost mine and had it replaced like that.
Oh boooo I see now. They must have changed the rules. Stupid people.....
ah okay, good to know, ta
yeah it says so here
They say you can apply on her behalf (she's supposed to be in the UK when you do it though so I don't really see the point of that....)
I had a mate who flew from Paris to Ireland and back on his driving licence because he left his pasport behind. By the time I got to his flat and got back to the airport his flight was gone. I went back up for his return flight so that an airline rep could take his passport out and give it to him as he came off the plane. He came through and we ended up waiting an hour for his passport. She shouldn't have any problems but she should carry something like a driving license which has her same name and address on it to confirm her identity just in case they get stupid in the UK.
I don't see no ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/23/f1-debrief-against-each-other-and-equally-rubbish/
I'm just a figment of your imagination
I've flown internally in the UK on a driving license alone but I don't think you can do that any more? I dunno. She's more worried that they'll think it has been tampered with because the photo page is damaged.
night guys!
In theory by the letter of their rules no. What we're saying though is that within the EU, having a passport to travel over the boundaries isn't a legal thing. EU citizens have right to travel freely within the EU. It's more or less that you need the passport to prove you have that right if that makes any sense at all.
adios mon compadre
Night
Night Gavin.
In theory :-) But we know what British and Spanish officials are like after all the terrorist threats they've had to deal with.
She may end up being asked a load of questions about it but once they scan the barcode they should be able to call up her details and compare them. If she is carrying other id with the same details she should be fine
What exactly are they going to do though.... I'd just fly personally. Maybe I'm just a bit blase about things like that.
I agree.
You need a better cloud a WiFi enabled city {Comment #139}
You need to live where I do - my home county council (Derbyshire) has just put free Wi-Fi in all the libraries...
Thanks for everyone's advice, I think it helped calm her down somewhat. She is going to call the embassy tomorrow just to see what they say.
fingers crossed it'll be alright :)
So what is going on with everyone thats non F1 related? :D {Comment #273}
I had an interview at Chesterfield Fire Station. For the second time in four days the job the JobCentre claimed was there was different to the one for which the interview was taking place. Despite this, things went quite well. I will know the answer to whether I have that job tomorrow.
College went well (second week on learning terms for the cardiac system) though only nine people turned up. Unfortunately one of the seven missing people had borrowed my notes last Tuesday, which left me in a slight pickle...
Also found 3 Hamilton posters on the tabe when I got home (one of Dad's friends works for a spark plug company). They look really good, and at least this year "Legendary performance and epic reliability" makes sense :)
Aha, I hope we can watch it.
It does seem more trouble than its worth..
Good luck
So what was it actually for? Good luck!
He can claim to be in the same league as Jarno Trulli, Jacques Villeneuve, Giancarlo Fisichella, and Nelson Piquet Jr - they were all teammates that Alonso made mincemeat of...
I think his team mate was Webber {Comment #220}
It was for most of it... ...but Yoong started in the last three races of 2001 when Tarso Marques' money ran out. Alonso made mincemeat of him straight away, to the surprise of not very many people at all.
You can add Romain Grosjean to the list of mincemeated team-mates, while we're at it...

Thank you, Steven and Pat :) It was supposedly an admin job with the fire station, but it was actually an admin job with the community strategic partnership which happens to have the fire station as one of its partners. This is significant because it means I have a different employer to most of the other people in the building, if I get the job.
I should consider myself lucky that the JobCentre at least got the address right today ;)
Just dug through 114 pages of the NASA press kit and found a landing time. It really does seem like they don't want people to watch. The landing is due to take place on Friday at 9:57am Eastern which is a very civilised 2:57pm UK time. As ever this can change because of weather or whatever. I will keep an eye on the NASA site and post updates and reminders as necessary
I am starting to worry about the calibre of astronauts that NASA is employing. One spacewalker just announced that he was sirectly above the English Channel. Turned out that it was the Gulf of Mexico. {Comment #459}
And I thought I'd been lost a few times trying to find places. I don't think I've ever been 4000 miles out before...
Just be grateful the Job Centre is sending you to interviess and not NASA
I just realised the decade is almost over!
Indeed it is. I won't be sorry to see the back of this one:) {Comment #521}
At the start of this decade, I was a secondary school pupil who was quite unhappy, due to being bullied and having her favourite driver retire on her.
Since then, I've been to sixth form (brilliant!), got selected for the World Games (yippee!) and barred on paperwork grounds (grrrr!), been to university (plenty of happy bits with a bittersweet ending), watched my favourite team change hands three times (boo, cautious thumbs up and big thumbs up respectively) been unemployed a lot (loses its novelty after a bit), had a job (yuck!) had four placements (yay!) and made lots of friends through F1 (mega yay!)
It's possible that my favourite driver might (semi-)retire on her. Some things never change...
Just be grateful the Job Centre is sending you to interviess and not NASA {Comment #593}
:D
They don't seem the most reliable organisation in the world.
Thanks. Looks like I will have to miss it, or at least follow the comments when I should be working, but at 3pm on a Friday I'm not likely to be doing anything stressful ;-)
They don't seem the most reliable organisation in the world. {Comment #596}
Not since my adviser changed a few weeks back, no...
I'd quite like to ditch the first five years and have another five starting now..
Last call for BLUG
http://jonwaldock.wordpress.com/2009/11/23/false-starts/
Go oooon ;)
ahh shoot. am running out of time for mcm.
I completely forgot.
NASA publish an xls file- easy to follow. It's a schedule of all the events and updated everytime there's a schedule change. Just can't remember where they put it. Will hunt now. Much better doc than press kit
I also haven't done any revision.
Ahhh Mr Scott. How art thou?
I have never seen that. Just pdfs
groovy. Oddly enough eating pizza. It's better here :)
haha awesome. grrrr
now i want some
i am looking
Shuttle mission tv schedule. On left hand side near NASA tv links. Can u see it?
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/mission_schedule.html
pizza good! Me hungry.
@me. Seeing as I missed the end of the season (races anyway) just wanted to say thanks for a great site and you keep it going in 2010 when Mercedes announce their second driver ;)
Im sure Heidfeld won't affect things here
:P
BOOOOOO my comment is "awaiting moderation"
! :)
Over use of the word BOOOOOO?
I'm never going to comment on anyone's blog ever again :P
that's an odd one.
firstly i'm thinking he won't get the drive, if only because brawn has made this team successful. it's no longer the dream-team winner the title, it's ross brawn. so why weaken his position, by making it the driver?
secondly, schumi in a silver car likely won't be as awful as him in a red car. although i haven't really thought that one through yet. mostly because of my first point.
try not to post links to naughty websites :)
here?
That's because you've never commente on my blog before!! Clearly if you had then we wouldnt be in this mess!
mine
No. I thought in the spirit of MCM I'd comment on Jon's blog :)
oh phew. cause i couldn't see one.
she's just moaning because it took me all of 30 seconds to moderate her :P
I have it now thanks. I see that has a slightly earlier landing time of 14:44
I don't do blogs. The only other blog I've ever commented on was Gavin's and that was to defend my fluffy Sebastian so you should feel very honoured!
I was talking about heidfeld;) (thanks lukeh)
I can't see it happening anyway but just wanted to stir you. :)
I am honoured, however you told me not to run after Men....and i can quite solidly predict that won't ever be an issue...
That doesn't happen often now
keep reading
Never say never!
I have always used this as my schedule. Never set me wrong and you can mod the spreadsheet so it works out for your own time zone, if not listed.
i tried to comment on alex's personal blog, but won't let me without a google account :(
do you not have one for wave?
rules of MCM state that if you have to log in, you don't have to comment.
whats MCM?
i think i'm up to date on comments, i always think mcm will take hours, but really it's just a few minutes. have i missed anyone?
i thought it was if you have to register
Must Comment Monday
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/09/must-comment-monday-is-back/
So if I comment again, I won't get moderated Jon?
I'm going to try it out. I'll be very annoyed if it happens again!
the lady says: "You don't need to comment on a blog that requires logins and/or signups."
who am i to argue?
"that requires logins and/or signups"
ah ok. i be wrong.
as ever
i promise nothing.
depends on who you are. mr c always gets moderated. not sure why
oh that. It's hard enough at new job with all the new TLAs (three letter acronyms) and here as well... Thanks for the link. But Nit sure if I will partake...
cause i'm awesome
Magically it seems Alianora has managed to comment tomorrow, today.....?
mmmm. ive had over 15 hits in the last 17 minutes...apparently when it gets past 11 its not Monday anymore
stupid typing. I meant Not. I don't have nits.
darn tootin'
I like the idea but I never seem to have anything to say on a Monday. I will try harder in two weeks. Next week I am busy but after that I should be free for most of the offseason so I will work on my RSS backlog...
i concur, except for the part about working on the backlog.
:D
Wireless buildings rule.
Yesssss I can comment independently! I'm proud of myself.
YEEEEEEY
I WIN!!!!!
I'd like to point out to you that i stopped walking and checked my mod queue as soon as i saw i'd got a wordpress email.
what was the competition? MCM?
Alison was moaning that she got moderated, but i pointed out that was because she'd never commented on my blog before, so she tried again and it didnt get mod'd! woop
Is the idea of MCM to comment on everyone's blog? I'm not sure I'm up for that.... Writing that comment has reminded me of a deeply embarrassing train (well tube) related incident. I'm not sure you'll be sensitive though. I told Nick and he nearly wet himself laughing :P
Right. On my way home. Back in a tick
I'm glad youre happy but I was expecting that you'd been names as the second driver...
Everyone likes getting comments I guess. Woop woop for commenting.
sort of.
the idea is to encourage feedback on blog posts, by promoting commenting. in return bloggers are motivated to blog more. basically everybody puts more effort in and gets something in return.
Ah I see. I'm easing myself into this blog thing. I got google reader but then I didn't check it often enough and now it stresses me out because there's hundreds of unread items in it. I need to work out how to delete them all and start fresh. Maybe then I'll manage better.
Thats what I did and now I love it
:)
really not meant to be stressful. if someone hasn't blogged on a monday, you don't have to do anything. it works both ways.
christine i think comments as she goes, whereas i save them all up and comments en-mass in the evening.
Tbh I think more blog posts just makes my situation more dire! Can I take my comments back now please Jon? :P
only hundreds? ;-) i'm well over 1000
i think it's a great idea but i only have so much time. Well. In theory.
That's what "mark all messages read" is for ;-)
but I don't want to miss anything! I keep meaning to catch up over lunchtime at work but lately I've been going into town to get stuff done instead
i think you have to sacrifice a little to get up to date. I did that with tv series here. I was behind and just had to start watching current things and then fill in the rest later. Otherwise I'll never catch up
Back later maybe. Have to synch my calendars which involves typing it all in first ;)
Blug alert: Nagging Questions or "The stuff I want answers for that I can't find on the internet yet".
I've pretty given up on TV and watch them whenever I can. Much easier now I have a hard disk recorder.
See ya
Surely the answer to the last question is 'on sidepodcast'?
Baaaack.
me too. I'm all synched up. Had been putting it off - all the holiday season changes and what not
Tyres - Bridgestone
i remember thinking the same thing once when I needed to l kw something. google or spc. The choice was simple. And the answer was faster.
that's my plan... for sure.
I am so behind on everything. Just catchinnup on abu dhabi highlight video on f1.com. I better see that hotel change colour.
It's the only action going on anywhere near the track.....
who moves countries mid-season?
i think I remember the feedback from someone saying that. But the video is buffering...free Internet is what it is...
someone desperate to get out of Italy!
Scott from Ital...oh wait,
him *points*
Haha people with lives that don't revolve completely around F1?
Oh no!! Why? :( I <3 Italy
For anyone who cares (it made me laugh), i just found that giant paper A in my room!
great place to holiday maybe but professionally it was very frustrating. And there were also cultural issues too. I liked elements of the experience but overall, glad it's over. I'm not the only one either. Met someone here who had a similar time in Italy who likes to do things the same as always because why change?
who the heck is that?! Stupid name.
Yeah i know! I mean, it's almost as stupid as The Bosto...oh wait ;) :D
oy! :)
8-)
