Here we are then, another Monday is upon us. Don't forget that if you would like the chance to write a daily post at some point in the future, then the option is there! I am taking volunteers for a series of guest written daily posts, and it's a good excuse to plug your own blog, or links that you like. We've had a great response so far, but there's always room for more.

  • It seemed to be the weekend for F1 visiting NASCAR as both Vettel and Kovi attended the race. Vettel was particularly outspoken about things F1 could learn from the sport, highlighting the spectacle that fans get, both visiting and on TV.
  • F1 Wolf has some rather stunning and you might say amusing photos of the Macau Grand Prix, which didn't exactly get off to a great start at all. Mr C and I both looked at the video of the start and wondered if David Coulthard had got in the car by mistake. Oops, sorry DC.
  • In Sidepodscience news, the Large Hadron Collider was relaunched on Friday and is apparently doing a lot better than it did first time round, in terms of research and stuff. Clearly I don't know what I'm talking about, but I know it hasn't killed us all. We did have quite a bad live show last night though... Hmm. Anyway, the original and best Big Picture has some great photos of the LHC if you haven't seen them already.

That's all for now. After two days off last week, I'm back at work and probably faced with piles of paperwork to sort through. Nevertheless I will see you in the comments.

I've spent the last hour looking at f1 photos and looking for photography conferences... I have no motivation for the rest of the week... Stupid work that I don't want to do. This week is going to be uber busy for me work wise as I have lots to do so if I show up please shoo me, I may be around in the late evenings depending on how i get on with work.

I must sleep now though, night all! xx

Can anyone give me a rough travel time from Mclaren to Apple Retail in Regent Street? I'm assuming public transport is the go.

  • Bassano Clapper23/11/2009 at 00:51

Mr C: Out of interest, not really that much of a pain

Why does 'new style' DD fail to load properly way more than old style ever did [if ever]?

  • Bassano Clapper23/11/2009 at 00:52

It could be. This is possibly why I'm often up until 1.15am when I really shouldn't be. This week's plan is to cut that back, but since I'll be revising in the evenings and wanting to catch up here after, it is doomed to failure.

  • Andy Taylor23/11/2009 at 00:53

Can anyone give me a rough travel time from Mclaren to Apple Retail in Regent Street? I'm assuming public transport is the go.

You mean McLaren, Woking? That'd be Woking station to Waterloo (30 minutes or so) then tube to Oxford Circus.

When are you thinking of travelling?

  • Bassano Clapper23/11/2009 at 00:53

It isn't that cold, except for in this flat. Jan and Feb are going to be a problem. I'm going to buy a new heater.

So you will be living at Mclaren and working at Apple?

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 00:58

Windows and external doors are more likely the culprits

The hallway is quite cold and with all this wind you notice the air coming in... I dunno what to do about that. Maybe a heavy curtain on the door.

Thats ok. I haven't made the leap yet because I hate the cold and would miss living near the beach.

So you will be living at Mclaren and working at Apple?

If they'd let me live there, yes! :P

I'd like to work for McLaren but may need to make the move while working for Apple and then change. Or just be a stalker....

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 01:01

When I'm hungover I tend to be knackered and in bed early

I've felt like that all day but I forced myself to stay up so as not to get completely out of step on my sleep pattern. I didn't get up until nearly 2pm.. had I gone to bed when I came back here this afternoon I was worried I'd wake up halfway through the night.

Exactly. I need to find out about wages though. If I can get 50k in british pounds, even with more expensive living costs, i will effectively be saving more.

I doubt retail pays that much though :)

    Are you talking Sterling?

  • Jeremy23/11/2009 at 01:07

I describe what I do now as 'talking for a living'

  • Jeremy23/11/2009 at 01:08

If only. Oh Jeremy, by the way I now have an iPhone :)

I saw that when I first logged on. Congrats! 32 GB 3GS right?

I have requested one of those as my work supplied handset (every week since they were released!) but am meeting resistance.

ooh. didn't mean to imply that I earn that much now (more like 40k) but I was wanting to get that much to counter the increased living costs.

    More research needed.

16GB actually, I couldn't quite justify the extra cost. Plus I still have my Classic, even if I did manage to damage the display :(

    Oh noes! (to damage)

16GB is more than enough for me, but I'm greedy. Free 3GS of any size would be accepted

  • Andy Taylor23/11/2009 at 01:13

Yeah. Particularly annoyed because it had just been replaced.

    Complete battery drain?

  • paul23/11/2009 at 01:16

    Complete battery drain?

No. It wouldn't do anything (and no, it wasn't the lock button).

I did a reset and it came good :-(

I really wanted a new classic, mine is only 80gb

  • Bassano Clapper23/11/2009 at 01:18

  • Freeman23/11/2009 at 07:00

Thanks Journeyer, i know my efforts will probably end in vain, but I owe it to myself to speak out!

A bit long this letter, but here it is...

That's it, stop insulting F1 fans and fire Steve Slater

    Dear Management of ESPNStar,

I'm sure I am not alone, please spend a few minutes and search online to see what fans think of Steve Slater. He is annoying, possess no knowledge in mortorsport & F1, do stupid chuckles, and most of the time gets things wrong in terms of drivers and race progression. His co-commentators cannot stand him (just ask Chris Goodwin, he's a good guy btw) And oh, he gets on viewers' nerves by his silly repetitive one-liners.

Please Management, I invite you to watch a few races, be it F1, GP2, MotoGP, NASCAR, LeMans... Listen to their commentary, and I dare to say, none can be worse than Steve Slater. For example, your GP2 & MotoGP coverage, their commentators are no well-known superstar, but their commentaries are top class. Now, open your eyes & ears to BBC's F1 coverage, and you'll be amazed how badly us Asian fans are treated in terms of coverage.

I've been wanting to send this to your attention for a long long time, but what pushed me to really do this is watching your F1 Classics re-run of 1994 Australian GP. It's totally absurd for Steve & Alex to "re-commentate". Without doubt, their commentating qualities are poor as usual. But on top of that, they try to create excitement and make believe that they're not sure what happened just like live tv? My god! This race happened 15 years ago! Why not just buy the right to broadcast these races, and pay a few quid more to get Murray Walker's commentary too, and don't insult and fool us fans in the process?

I have one simple suggestion for Star Sports to improve your F1 coverage in one master stroke....

BUY BBC's RACE FEED TOGETHER WITH THEIR COMMENTARY.

(Canadian & Australian broadcasters do this)

You can still do a pre-race and post-race feature show if you want. But fans will be properly treated to top class commentary. It's not only fans who benefit. I'm sure proper commentary will correctly educate and entertain "casual" fans, so they will watch more of your coverage. You have no idea how Steve Slater annoys and turns off casual and hardcore fans alike. Oh, did I mention you can cut your headcount to balance the books by doing this?

Please, spend some time to see what fans say on forums about Steve Slater. I only watch Star Sports F1 Live coverage just because I HAVE to. Wait a few years and online streaming improves their quality to live TV standard, I will surely watch overseas feeds if you still keep the "self proclaimed Petro-Head Steve Slater".

I'm pushed to my limit to tolerate Steve Slater. I'm actually going to draft a proposal to Mr. Ecclestone to recommend proper coverage and how to attract new fans in Asia (his booming market), and unsurprisingly, the #1 action plan will be to REMOVE STEVE SLATER.

ps. sorry for my strong and negative tone, but I'm just speaking out after years of tolerating an incompetent commentator in a sport I love.

    Thanks for your attention,

    Freeman Tang

I see I am not the only one who can't stand Mr Slater :-)

by the way, I saw Alex Yoong in Macau last weekend. I must say I am not sure what was his game plan especially after announcing his race plans during F1 race coverage on Star Sports. The Star TV crew (Paula Malay Ali and Sanjaya Palar) was there with him to make sure they have something to show on TV later on but there will be hardly any footage of him racing ...

He brought some weird looking white car called Bufori that was hopelessly uncompetitive in the GT Cup race. I gad few friends in the GT Cup paddock and they were all shaking heads when I asked them what they think Mr TYoong is doing there...

He started way back, almost last, and lasted only 4 laps in the race before retiring. Perhaps he wanted to re-live his F1 experience - backmarker in uncompetitive car ?

Is it a case that he's really shocking or just that his co-commentators are brilliant which makes him seem worse? I know that's the impression I got with both James Allen and Jonathan Legard because they share with Brundle

Oh the Bufori - well if you followed him on Facebook or Twitter you would have seen that it is a prototype that was knocked together in 8 weeks.

The odd part is that Bufori make new versions of 1930's cars which look like MG's - kinda like how Morgan operate. So this car doesn't even fit it's own manufacturer!

well it did not even had enough space for the engine. the engine was kind of extending inside the cockpit, some of my friends did not believe that car was safe to race ... anyway, I have some photos from the garages and paddock, will sort them out in day or two or three and post somewhere

LOL at the cherrio's comment. Nope, they look good.

Does the flat colour scheme look nicer? Is it bold and easy to read or should I change the colours?

I like it, simple (flat) is better in my opinion. Sometimes with a graph you can go that bit too far and when you already have a lot of information on a graph. 3-D shapes can be distracting of the message you want to give.

I dont think you need to put the numbers on the bars for stint times as you have an axis for that, that would make it easier to read I reckon.

  • jackie / saltire23/11/2009 at 07:38

  • Freeman23/11/2009 at 07:42

    Really! he worse than JL?

Really! I download and re-watch BBC race every time. If you think Allen and now Legard are bad, this Slater is a joke.

  • Freeman23/11/2009 at 07:44

Perhaps he wanted to re-live his F1 experience - backmarker in uncompetitive car ?

Yoong wants to remind us his middle name:

    Alex "Mobile Chicane" Yoong

  • Journeyer23/11/2009 at 07:44

Really! I download and re-watch BBC race every time. If you think Allen and now Legard are bad, this Slater is a joke.

I usually mute Slater for Legard when there's little to no lag on the feed. ;)

He can claim to be in the same league as Jarno Trulli, Jacques Villeneuve, Giancarlo Fisichella, and Nelson Piquet Jr - they were all teammates that Alonso made mincemeat of...

Uh-oh .. I usually mute Legard for no commentary when he goes off on one. That guy does like say "Ooooooh and he's"

Slater's favorite expression seems to be "OHHHHH" :D

That's what I meant in my comment .. but maybe it came across that this was a Legard expression

  • Journeyer23/11/2009 at 07:49

I think his team mate was Webber

Yoong's first race was Monza 2001, paired with Alonso. He finished 2001, then did most of 2002 with Webber, after Alonso moved on to become Renault's 3rd driver.

  • Journeyer23/11/2009 at 07:50

That's what I meant in my comment .. but maybe it came across that this was a Legard expression

I've heard Legard say "ooooh" more than a few times. But Wolf is right - unless you watch a race in full with Slater on the mic, it is difficult to comprehend just how awful he is.

I will try my best to not let him spoil my viewing pleasure for tonight - the 1994 Brazilian GP.

  • jackie / saltire23/11/2009 at 07:51

  • F1Wolf23/11/2009 at 08:12

two things I learned about Star Sports crew in Macau last weekend - Alex Yoong is taller than he looks on TV, Paula Malay Ali is very small, much smaller than she looks on TV. Not that this matters ...

  • Alex Andronov23/11/2009 at 08:16

    Morning everyone :)

  • Freeman23/11/2009 at 08:16

    Most annoying Slater expressions:

"This is a hero to zero moment!" (he says this gadzillion times in each race)

"Do stay with us for more Drama!" (says this every time just about to cut to adverts, most of the time there's no drama to speak of)

"from our calculation, he can run a one-stop strategy" (he never got one right from my record)

We go through 90+ minutes of that 17+ times a season! Simply horrible. :( Usually, just like Legard, it's his analysts that save the day for him. He's had some good ones - Chris Goodwin (Bruno Senna's driver advisor), and Karun Chandhok (F1 hopeful). And there were awful ones, like Alex Yoong and... some other guy whose name I don't remember.

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. How do you develop new applications and move forward with things if you don't have a solid theoretical background. People need to be given the knowledge to allow them to think for themselves and be innovative.

For our assignment we have to pick 2 developing technologies. go away research them and present them via use of multimedia.

So the lectures aren't for all I guess.

  • Rich23/11/2009 at 12:00

For our assignment we have to pick 2 developing technologies. go away research them and present them via use of multimedia.

he he! we use it extensively when classifying satellite images and doing conservation biology - specifically optimisation of land use.

Exactly - I looked at those in Germany and I would have paid £30!

  • Rich23/11/2009 at 12:17

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. How do you develop new applications and move forward with things if you don't have a solid theoretical background. People need to be given the knowledge to allow them to think for themselves and be innovative.

Teaching applications first then move to theory. Trouble in our part of the world is its all theory and little application. As far as thinking goes - best to find a suitable application for actually doing something with A.I. So rather than write an essay or do a PowerPoint on A.I. - you actually say download satellite imagery data and use an off-the-shelf algorithms (e.g. Kohonen SOM or multilayer perceptron neural network) and actually review your results you get (patterns - then say use fractals to further define patterns & infer processes). Thats what I mean by application - to use real real data for real analysis. Too much of what I see at universities is little more than regurgitation of other studies, review etc - that is what I would call theoretical and does not help you be better when you are being employed. Its hardly under-grad work to develop your own algorithms in this field but important to know how it could be used.

I really don't think I agree with you Rich. I think it's quite obvious that AI isn't my field but surely someone has to understand enough to develop new solutions at the base level or the whole structure will stagnate.

My Parents-in-law and their lack of basic understanding has cost me three whole weekends!

As a small example, they gave my sister-in-law a wireless keyboard. She asked me with a puzzled look why it wasn't working. They had given her only the keyboard and not the USB receiver thingy!

Just heard some uncomfortable news about Quadbike, the Swiss are suggesting they are just an elaborate scam.

Russel King, a convicted fraudster, is still involved with them and they say the FIA don't seem that convinced anymore (you have to love the exhaustive selection process the FIA went through)

  • me23/11/2009 at 12:36

i hate apple. last week they updated their HP printer drivers. i'd hoped that it fixed the issue whereby "print two copies" only prints a single copy, and then spits out a blank sheet.

alas no, the update hasn't made any difference. what it has done though is make all light grey background colours and text appear black.

i have in my hand x1 solid black page and x1 pure white page and neither has any readable text on them.

Are we playing 'Which Apple Mac am I'?

  • Rich23/11/2009 at 12:45

I really don't think I agree with you Rich. I think it's quite obvious that AI isn't my field but surely someone has to understand enough to develop new solutions at the base level or the whole structure will stagnate.

The really theory in A! is beyond undergraduate level of engagement - I just hate pretense. I have a 100% track record of employment for my post-graduates in the industry they were trained in - its based on solid application not by advancing high level theory.

I have a friend who really likes her eeeepc, but wants to have an iPhone. She's currently happily running linux. Running iTunes for Windows on her machine would probably be very painful. So I'm trying to work out what to suggest.

closest thing is a 13" macbook, running bootcamp / linux.

    pricey though.

I'm off to cook but you can't teach people the applications if you then want them to be able to apply things themselves. They need to work it through themselves for it to be truly useful? There must be applications that no-one's considered before. To think otherwise would be closed minded.

  • Alex Andronov23/11/2009 at 12:48

I really do pick them - Nick, Timo, (once upon a time Nico), Toyota and Sauber. Toyota bid farewell today, the new Sauber owners are a sham, Timo has gone to join a virtual team funded by Virgin (and Lauder says is a huge mistake). My one glimmer of hope was that Nick would get a Brawn drive - otherwise, I think I will probably give F1 as an interest. Sorry the German bias - its my background.

    #sidepodspace update

The third and final spacewalk of this space shuttle mission is well under way and there is only two to three hours left of it. The most important aspect of it seems to be that the wife of one of the spacewalkers had a baby on Saturday. It is extraordianry the lengths some men will go to, to avoid being at the birth.

Actually talking about feeling really bad about something... I feel really bad that I've hardly been around today and yet here I am about to plug something...

If any of you have ever read one of my stories and wondered... I wonder what happens next... Then this post is for you: http://www.gamboling.co.uk/2009/11/writers-prerogative.html

I was really desperate to publish it on a Monday too! MCM for the win (although that might really just be about F1 blog posts)

I am starting to worry about the calibre of astronauts that NASA is employing. One spacewalker just announced that he was sirectly above the English Channel. Turned out that it was the Gulf of Mexico.

I heard a great description of art the other day. People are often put off by "modern" art. It has made it difficult to define what art is. Photography has also clouded the issue. This definition was, "art is anything that makes you look at the world and think, 'that's art'."

There are some incredible pictures in there. I guess the difference between a photographer and the rest of us is if we see a bee landing in water we don't immediately think about catching the pattern of ripples

the person who made that definition up clearly spent too long arguing with others and so decided "Fine! Art's what you want it to be!"

Killing time in the Portland airport as I wait for my flight. Just reading the news about Rosberg and one Jose Maria Lopez, (who I am writing a blog post about.)

When I was in J-school, I got to sit in on a lecture with Steve McCurry, probably the best NG photographer alive. He has this great photo of a salmon run in Idaho with something simila where the fish was perfectly placed as the shot was half underwater and half landscape which was awesome. The next slide was of the set up where he had some underwater lighting and a guy with a bucket full of live salmon which he was releasing next to the camera. It was pretty funny seeing the look on people's faces when he revealed how staged these things are. All of the self rightious journalist went crazy calling it "unethical." I call it having a great vision.

  • Janna23/11/2009 at 21:11

Does anyone know if you can fly / enter a country with a damaged passport?

Pat, from Directgov You do not need to report a damaged passport, but if your passport is damaged beyond reasonable wear and tear, some airlines may not let you travel. For this reason IPS recommends that you apply for a replacement as soon as possible.

  • Alison23/11/2009 at 21:12

Does anyone know if you can fly / enter a country with a damaged passport?

I'm pretty sure it's invalid if it's damaged. I think it's a discretion thing though. If it's within the EU then she'll be absolutely fine. You can talk your way around the EU without one at all.

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 21:13

    Where is she going?

    From Spain to UK

  • Janna23/11/2009 at 21:13

Also, there is a passport helpline which may be of use for the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) 0300 222 0000

  • Alison23/11/2009 at 21:13

    From Spain to UK

Ah home to the UK? There'll be absolutely no issue. If she didn't have one, she'd be able to talk her way onto the flight.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)23/11/2009 at 21:14

    Are you sure about that?

Wifey says it should be ok but she will have to replace it.

  • Alison23/11/2009 at 21:15

If there's a serious panic on and she's very very worried about it, go to the embassy and they'll be able to issue a new passport in spain.

My cousin once talked her way onto a flight to the Netherlands when she lost her passport and had a new one issued in Amsterdam.

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 21:15

Thanks. This is what she says:

    - the passport had damage to the red cover

    - the passport had dog-eared edges on the laminate / photo part

    - the laminate had come away from the page on both corners, but not near the photo

    - luckily the actual info on the passport is ok and not affected and the photo is ok too... the problem is the corners of the laminate and the front of it.

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 21:15

She is coming home for Christmas for a couple of weeks. She's been sitting on it worrying about it, and has left it too late to renew it in time to come back. They say 4 weeks, there are now just under 4 weeks. She'll need to get from Vigo to Madrid for an interview with the embassy.

I don't think she will have the slightest problem with her passport having slight damage.

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 21:26

Thanks for the assistance guys. Hopefully the embassy will be able to help.

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 21:26

Presumably she can book an appointment to get a replacement in the UK and get a fast issue one done though while she's over.

She says that takes a week normally and will be longer over christmas.. she doesn't have that much time

  • Alison23/11/2009 at 21:26

I don't think she will have the slightest problem with her passport having slight damage.

It doesn't sound like it's too bad.... I was imagining it being badly burnt or something or with missing pages. Missing pages they go crazy over.... I'd probably advise replacing it while in the UK though as that sounds easier if you're anywhere near a centre?

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 21:27

If she books an appointment at a passport office (which can be done 24/7 over the phone) and shows up at the office at the set time with the documents, it can be collected at the office later that day.

  • Steven Roy23/11/2009 at 21:35

I had a mate who flew from Paris to Ireland and back on his driving licence because he left his pasport behind. By the time I got to his flat and got back to the airport his flight was gone. I went back up for his return flight so that an airline rep could take his passport out and give it to him as he came off the plane. He came through and we ended up waiting an hour for his passport. She shouldn't have any problems but she should carry something like a driving license which has her same name and address on it to confirm her identity just in case they get stupid in the UK.

I've flown internally in the UK on a driving license alone but I don't think you can do that any more? I dunno. She's more worried that they'll think it has been tampered with because the photo page is damaged.

In theory by the letter of their rules no. What we're saying though is that within the EU, having a passport to travel over the boundaries isn't a legal thing. EU citizens have right to travel freely within the EU. It's more or less that you need the passport to prove you have that right if that makes any sense at all.

In theory :-) But we know what British and Spanish officials are like after all the terrorist threats they've had to deal with.

She may end up being asked a load of questions about it but once they scan the barcode they should be able to call up her details and compare them. If she is carrying other id with the same details she should be fine

  • Alianora La Canta23/11/2009 at 22:07

    So what is going on with everyone thats non F1 related? :D {Comment #273}

I had an interview at Chesterfield Fire Station. For the second time in four days the job the JobCentre claimed was there was different to the one for which the interview was taking place. Despite this, things went quite well. I will know the answer to whether I have that job tomorrow.

College went well (second week on learning terms for the cardiac system) though only nine people turned up. Unfortunately one of the seven missing people had borrowed my notes last Tuesday, which left me in a slight pickle...

  • Alianora La Canta23/11/2009 at 22:07

Also found 3 Hamilton posters on the tabe when I got home (one of Dad's friends works for a spark plug company). They look really good, and at least this year "Legendary performance and epic reliability" makes sense :)

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 22:09

The third and final spacewalk has been completed successfully. The shuttle will undock form the ISS on Wednesday and land if the weather is good on Friday. I don't know times yet.

Aha, I hope we can watch it.

  • Pat W23/11/2009 at 22:10

He can claim to be in the same league as Jarno Trulli, Jacques Villeneuve, Giancarlo Fisichella, and Nelson Piquet Jr - they were all teammates that Alonso made mincemeat of...

    I think his team mate was Webber {Comment #220}

It was for most of it... ...but Yoong started in the last three races of 2001 when Tarso Marques' money ran out. Alonso made mincemeat of him straight away, to the surprise of not very many people at all.

You can add Romain Grosjean to the list of mincemeated team-mates, while we're at it...

Thank you, Steven and Pat :) It was supposedly an admin job with the fire station, but it was actually an admin job with the community strategic partnership which happens to have the fire station as one of its partners. This is significant because it means I have a different employer to most of the other people in the building, if I get the job.

I should consider myself lucky that the JobCentre at least got the address right today ;)

Aha, I hope we can watch it.

Just dug through 114 pages of the NASA press kit and found a landing time. It really does seem like they don't want people to watch. The landing is due to take place on Friday at 9:57am Eastern which is a very civilised 2:57pm UK time. As ever this can change because of weather or whatever. I will keep an eye on the NASA site and post updates and reminders as necessary

  • Alianora La Canta23/11/2009 at 22:23

I just realised the decade is almost over!

    Indeed it is. I won't be sorry to see the back of this one:) {Comment #521}

At the start of this decade, I was a secondary school pupil who was quite unhappy, due to being bullied and having her favourite driver retire on her.

Since then, I've been to sixth form (brilliant!), got selected for the World Games (yippee!) and barred on paperwork grounds (grrrr!), been to university (plenty of happy bits with a bittersweet ending), watched my favourite team change hands three times (boo, cautious thumbs up and big thumbs up respectively) been unemployed a lot (loses its novelty after a bit), had a job (yuck!) had four placements (yay!) and made lots of friends through F1 (mega yay!)

It's possible that my favourite driver might (semi-)retire on her. Some things never change...

NASA publish an xls file- easy to follow. It's a schedule of all the events and updated everytime there's a schedule change. Just can't remember where they put it. Will hunt now. Much better doc than press kit

    that's an odd one.

firstly i'm thinking he won't get the drive, if only because brawn has made this team successful. it's no longer the dream-team winner the title, it's ross brawn. so why weaken his position, by making it the driver?

secondly, schumi in a silver car likely won't be as awful as him in a red car. although i haven't really thought that one through yet. mostly because of my first point.

    what was the competition? MCM?

Alison was moaning that she got moderated, but i pointed out that was because she'd never commented on my blog before, so she tried again and it didnt get mod'd! woop

  • Alison23/11/2009 at 23:25

Is the idea of MCM to comment on everyone's blog? I'm not sure I'm up for that.... Writing that comment has reminded me of a deeply embarrassing train (well tube) related incident. I'm not sure you'll be sensitive though. I told Nick and he nearly wet himself laughing :P

  • Jon Waldock23/11/2009 at 23:25

Right. On my way home. Back in a tick

    sort of.

the idea is to encourage feedback on blog posts, by promoting commenting. in return bloggers are motivated to blog more. basically everybody puts more effort in and gets something in return.

Ah I see. I'm easing myself into this blog thing. I got google reader but then I didn't check it often enough and now it stresses me out because there's hundreds of unread items in it. I need to work out how to delete them all and start fresh. Maybe then I'll manage better.

Thats what I did and now I love it

    :)

really not meant to be stressful. if someone hasn't blogged on a monday, you don't have to do anything. it works both ways.

christine i think comments as she goes, whereas i save them all up and comments en-mass in the evening.

Tbh I think more blog posts just makes my situation more dire! Can I take my comments back now please Jon? :P

but I don't want to miss anything! I keep meaning to catch up over lunchtime at work but lately I've been going into town to get stuff done instead

i think you have to sacrifice a little to get up to date. I did that with tv series here. I was behind and just had to start watching current things and then fill in the rest later. Otherwise I'll never catch up

  • The Boston Red Scott23/11/2009 at 23:37

Back later maybe. Have to synch my calendars which involves typing it all in first ;)

I've pretty given up on TV and watch them whenever I can. Much easier now I have a hard disk recorder.

i remember thinking the same thing once when I needed to l kw something. google or spc. The choice was simple. And the answer was faster.

I am so behind on everything. Just catchinnup on abu dhabi highlight video on f1.com. I better see that hotel change colour.

i think I remember the feedback from someone saying that. But the video is buffering...free Internet is what it is...

  • The Boston Red Scott24/11/2009 at 00:03

someone desperate to get out of Italy!

Haha people with lives that don't revolve completely around F1?

  • Alison24/11/2009 at 00:04

    Oh no!! Why? :( I <3 Italy

  • Jon Waldock24/11/2009 at 00:05

  • The Boston Red Scott24/11/2009 at 00:06

    Oh no!! Why? :( I <3 Italy

great place to holiday maybe but professionally it was very frustrating. And there were also cultural issues too. I liked elements of the experience but overall, glad it's over. I'm not the only one either. Met someone here who had a similar time in Italy who likes to do things the same as always because why change?

  • The Boston Red Scott24/11/2009 at 00:07

    Scott from Ital...oh wait,

who the heck is that?! Stupid name.

  • Jon Waldock24/11/2009 at 00:08
